- 0:12Speaker 2: And I'm Al.
- 0:12Speaker 3: And this is Two Broke Chicks, a show that shares
- 0:14Speaker 3: life lessons and tips to help make you rich in life.
- 0:17Speaker 3: And today we are joined by celebrity stylist and content
- 0:20Speaker 3: creator Paul Versace, also known by his handle.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Styled by Bloom.
- 0:24Speaker 2: He's dressed some of Sydney's shining stars like Sofa Dofa,
- 0:27Speaker 2: Shani Grimman and Sally Obermeter, among others.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Welcome, Paul.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So exciting.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I can't wait for you to fix every single wardrobe
- 0:39Speaker 2: styling problem I've ever had in my entire life.
- 0:41Speaker 4: I can try.
- 0:42Speaker 1: No, it will happen.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I also was like laughing this morning because I've dressed
- 0:45Speaker 2: very cozy today, very comfy.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I was like, I don't have it in me to
- 0:48Speaker 1: like wear jeans today.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm kind of regretting this shirt.
- 0:51Speaker 1: But it's okay. No, you look great.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I look like a slob that I was like, do
- 0:55Speaker 2: you know what? Great first impression.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Before we dive into our questions, obviously we're going to
- 1:01Speaker 3: be talking styling with you today, but we always start
- 1:04Speaker 3: with a life.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Lesson of the week with our guests. So would you
- 1:07Speaker 1: like to kick us off?
- 1:09Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. I think this week, especially because I've got,
- 1:12Speaker 4: I've had a few different projects on, I think like
- 1:16Speaker 4: it's not that deep. So like when things don't go
- 1:19Speaker 4: to plan, I'm just like, I used to really like
- 1:22Speaker 4: stress out and be like, but now it's just like,
- 1:24Speaker 4: it's okay. It's going to sort itself out. So that's
- 1:28Speaker 4: been my week this week. It's like, it's okay. Let's
- 1:30Speaker 4: just move on and we'll get on to the next thing.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And you got through all of it.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Yeah, like even today we started walking here and it
- 1:37Speaker 4: started raining, but it's okay.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and you could let that ruin your day. Like
- 1:41Speaker 1: you could let that put you in the worst mood.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:43Speaker 3: But it's like I can't control it and really is
- 1:46Speaker 3: it that bad?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Like what was the worst.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Thing that happened? No.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's an inconvenience.
- 1:51Speaker 4: It's on that tape.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's on that tape. I love that.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Shall we get into the questions? Yeah, let's do the
- 1:56Speaker 1: damn thing.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I would love to know, has fashion like always been
- 2:01Speaker 2: a passion for rhyming, of yours? Like has that always
- 2:05Speaker 2: been there? When did you realize you wanted to make
- 2:07Speaker 2: styling a career?
- 2:09Speaker 4: So I started my working career in social media. So
- 2:14Speaker 4: I had a social media company called Bloom Media. So
- 2:17Speaker 4: that's where the bloom actually comes from. But I always
- 2:22Speaker 4: loved fashion, but I just knew how kind of cutthroat
- 2:26Speaker 4: and intense that industry was. And I would always like
- 2:30Speaker 4: watch the Brownlow and see all these ladies in amazing
- 2:34Speaker 4: dresses and think it was so cool or just be
- 2:36Speaker 4: so into fashion but then looking back on it i
- 2:40Speaker 4: remember when i was like seven i used to take
- 2:42Speaker 4: my sisters to like that like a shopping center in
- 2:45Speaker 4: melbourne and i would dress them for a wedding so
- 2:47Speaker 4: i was like indirectly styling them and i'd always like
- 2:50Speaker 4: help my mom or be really interested in like what
- 2:54Speaker 4: everyone else was wearing and then my best friends um
- 2:58Speaker 4: they would just kind of like that follow through as
- 3:00Speaker 4: well like But I also, like, at this point was still, like,
- 3:05Speaker 4: not out. And I was, like, this, like, young guy
- 3:08Speaker 4: that was trying to, like, help my girlfriends. It was
- 3:12Speaker 4: just a whole thing.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So you've just always had an eye for it.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Always.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Always loved it. And I just had this weird ability.
- 3:18Speaker 4: I don't know why I have it, but I don't
- 3:21Speaker 4: forget an outfit. Really? I'm not even joking. Like, once
- 3:26Speaker 4: I see an outfit, it's just in there. So it's, like,
- 3:28Speaker 4: I don't know if you've seen Suits before.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Oh, like a little bit, not much.
- 3:32Speaker 4: He has that photographic memory. Mine's not for maths or anything.
- 3:37Speaker 4: It's outfits.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I love that. Have you ever watched the Lizzie McGuire movie?
- 3:40Speaker 4: I literally just bought tickets to Hilary Duff. Oh, my God.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Me and one of my best friends were obsessed with her.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 3:49Speaker 1: We're obsessed as well. We're going to see her too
- 3:51Speaker 1: in Sydney and in Melbourne.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 3:53Speaker 4: It's so good.
- 3:54Speaker 3: There's that iconic quote from that movie and she's like,
- 3:58Speaker 3: Lizzie McGuire, you are an outfit repeater.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And she's like, well, you are an outfit rememberer.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm like, that's you.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 1: But you use your powers for.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Good, not evil.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't mean, I don't like, I just, it's
- 4:09Speaker 4: just weird. I just, I always like, I'll remember an
- 4:12Speaker 4: outfit from like five years ago. Oh my God. It's crazy.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It helps with my job because if I find something,
- 4:18Speaker 4: I'll be like, yeah, there's that shoe or there's that.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But yeah, it's just a weird talent of mine.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Is there like an outfit in like pop culture or
- 4:26Speaker 2: like a TV show like Sex and the City or
- 4:28Speaker 2: like Gossip Girl that you're like, that outfit was like
- 4:31Speaker 2: 10 out of 10, like A + +?
- 4:33Speaker 4: Honestly, I remember watching Gossip Girl especially and just like,
- 4:38Speaker 4: I think it was like also the right age. I
- 4:40Speaker 4: was the right age watching that too and it was
- 4:43Speaker 4: just like, It just made– I'm all about like I
- 4:46Speaker 4: love New York and Paris. And I like how you
- 4:49Speaker 4: can just dress up for everything.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Everyone there dresses so cool.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Well, that's why– just being able to dress up. Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Like Australians are so much more casual, right?
- 4:57Speaker 4: Yeah. Like just going out and like wearing like your
- 4:59Speaker 4: best outfit I think is so fun. Yeah. And I
- 5:02Speaker 4: think watching Gossip Girl and they are so extra even
- 5:05Speaker 4: in their like school uniform. That really like hooked me in.
- 5:08Speaker 4: And then obviously Sex and the City. But then this
- 5:10Speaker 4: show is like younger and.
- 5:12Speaker 1: There's– Love that show.
- 5:15Speaker 4: So underrated as well.
- 5:16Speaker 2: We went to Marie's Crisis in New York recently where
- 5:19Speaker 2: they go in the– Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It was so fun.
- 5:22Speaker 4: But also so underrated that show. Like I've binged it
- 5:25Speaker 4: like twice. It's really good.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It's so good.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I actually haven't watched it for a second time that
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm like, do you know what? That's like a Sunday.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Like I'm locked in.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'm not moving.
- 5:34Speaker 4: The main guy in it too.
- 5:35Speaker 1: He's so, so hot. And again, Hilary Duff.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Love it. Just all these like huge fans. I love it.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I love that two out of three of those shows
- 5:45Speaker 2: had Hilary Duff in it too, which is amazing. I know.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, so true.
- 5:48Speaker 1: My God, Gossip Girl.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And by the way, chickies, we've got a bit of
- 5:52Speaker 3: rain going on in Sydney at the moment. So if
- 5:54Speaker 3: you hear that coming through, enjoy the ambience.
- 5:57Speaker 1: This is your free calm app.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Yeah, so true.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Essentially now. So true.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But Paul, you've styled a lot of really cool people,
- 6:05Speaker 3: as we mentioned. Are there any looks that you're particularly
- 6:08Speaker 3: proud of?
- 6:09Speaker 4: Think for me the brown low i know i know
- 6:12Speaker 4: not everyone knows what it is is like they know
- 6:14Speaker 4: what it is in sydney but i'm originally from melbourne
- 6:17Speaker 4: so the brown low is like the met gala yeah
- 6:21Speaker 4: melbourne and honestly like australia it's one of the biggest
- 6:24Speaker 4: red carpets and i think the excitement of the build
- 6:27Speaker 4: up for the brown low and then the brown low
- 6:30Speaker 4: it's like a full production team it's like photographers and
- 6:33Speaker 4: videographers and just seeing those looks come to life and
- 6:37Speaker 4: i've worked with Alex Pendlebury and Annalise Dallins and just
- 6:41Speaker 4: like getting the photos on that day. There's like, there's
- 6:44Speaker 4: no better feeling than seeing them go live. And I
- 6:47Speaker 4: don't know, the Brownlow for me is probably up there,
- 6:49Speaker 4: but then there's moments where I've like gone to Paris with, um,
- 6:53Speaker 4: shiny agreement. There's so many, like, I don't know. It's
- 6:56Speaker 4: really hard to pick one because they're also special in
- 7:00Speaker 4: their own way.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 4: And you spend so long working on them. And then
- 7:05Speaker 4: there's looks that you, Might think they might be like,
- 7:10Speaker 4: they're the ones that are going to, you're going to
- 7:11Speaker 4: remember them for ages. When there's looks that I can,
- 7:13Speaker 4: I'll like randomly think of, I'm like, wow, I did
- 7:16Speaker 4: not think that would still be like there.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 4: But I don't know. It's hard to, everyone always asks
- 7:20Speaker 4: me like, what's your favorite?
- 7:22Speaker 1: It would be really hard to pick.
- 7:23Speaker 4: It's super hard. Yeah. Like they're all so special in
- 7:25Speaker 4: their own way. So I'm like, yeah, I don't know.
- 7:27Speaker 4: It's hard. Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 1: That's so fair enough.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Yeah. Okay.
- 7:31Speaker 1: We want to get into.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Styling our own outfits and maybe sometimes, like why the outfit.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Doesn't quite work. Like there's something just like missing.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Like if someone's looking at their wardrobe and they're always going,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I have nothing to wear. What's the first thing you
- 7:48Speaker 2: would tell them to do before buying anything new?
- 7:52Speaker 4: I think first clear out your wardrobe. I think so
- 7:55Speaker 4: many people, well, I do the same thing. You have
- 7:58Speaker 4: so much in your wardrobe and you think you have
- 8:01Speaker 4: so much, but then when you actually look at it,
- 8:03Speaker 4: you're not pulling out anything from that wardrobe. So I think,
- 8:07Speaker 4: Empty out. Like, be really brutal. Like, I do it
- 8:10Speaker 4: as well. There's those, like, four shirts that you think
- 8:14Speaker 4: you're going to wear or save for a special occasion.
- 8:16Speaker 4: You've had those special occasions. And you did wear it.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 4: So I think, like, clearing out your wardrobe. But also,
- 8:24Speaker 4: I've started doing that now. Buy pieces or, like, buy
- 8:29Speaker 4: pieces that you actually love. I feel like a lot
- 8:32Speaker 4: of people panic buy. And you'll like go to like
- 8:35Speaker 4: a Zara or go to a H & M or
- 8:37Speaker 4: go even to like a pretty expensive store and just
- 8:42Speaker 4: quickly buy something because you need something.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Or like you're missing a pair.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Of jeans or like missing a jacket, but you don't
- 8:49Speaker 4: actually love it.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Is there anything that you do personally, whether it's like
- 8:53Speaker 2: if you're styling for, like if you're looking for pieces
- 8:56Speaker 2: for a shoot or an event or even just for
- 8:59Speaker 2: yourself that you're like, how do I know that I
- 9:02Speaker 2: genuinely love it?
- 9:03Speaker 4: I always, for me, it's starting with one piece. So
- 9:07Speaker 4: base it around, like, if you're going to a dinner
- 9:10Speaker 4: or a lunch, pick a pair of pants that you
- 9:12Speaker 4: love and then start by styling that. I think you
- 9:14Speaker 4: get really overwhelmed when you're like, I have to style
- 9:17Speaker 4: a look.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Do the whole thing, yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 4: And then you're grabbing, like, T-shirts. We're grabbing a shirt,
- 9:21Speaker 4: different types of skirts, and they're all on your bed,
- 9:24Speaker 4: and you're looking at all these things. And, like, I
- 9:27Speaker 4: also think I have ADHD. I know I have ADHD.
- 9:29Speaker 4: It's true. So you get really overwhelmed with making decisions.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I think if you get a pair of pants that
- 9:34Speaker 4: you know you're going to wear, even if it's a
- 9:36Speaker 4: pair of heels, pull out the heels and then work
- 9:40Speaker 4: your way back. I think that's what I do. Like
- 9:42Speaker 4: even today, I would pull out a pair of shorts
- 9:45Speaker 4: or like a shirt that I really want to wear
- 9:47Speaker 4: and then style that back instead of being like, I
- 9:49Speaker 4: need a whole look.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Like rather than styling yourself, you style like a piece
- 9:54Speaker 2: of clothing.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I like that.
- 9:55Speaker 2: That's such a good tip Cause I'm also the same.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I'm like, there's, it's, I got to do the whole thing.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'm like, where, where do I start? But it's like
- 10:02Speaker 2: just going to one thing.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, even when I like get booked to style
- 10:06Speaker 4: someone for an event, we're never just doing the whole
- 10:09Speaker 4: look in one go. We're doing like a Pinterest board
- 10:12Speaker 4: or we're starting with the dress or say, Oh, I
- 10:14Speaker 4: love these earrings. Can we start by that? I think
- 10:17Speaker 4: that's going to pull back the stress.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah what do you think is one of like the
- 10:28Speaker 2: biggest mistakes and i know like fashion and style is
- 10:33Speaker 2: you know subjective like a great look to someone could
- 10:37Speaker 2: be like a grim vibe to another But in your opinion,
- 10:43Speaker 2: what's like the biggest mistake that we make when we're
- 10:45Speaker 2: styling our own outfits?
- 10:47Speaker 4: I actually had a client yesterday that I had a
- 10:51Speaker 4: fitting with her and it was the first time we've
- 10:53Speaker 4: had a fitting working together. And I noticed I actually
- 10:57Speaker 4: forgot that it happens so much, but so many people
- 11:01Speaker 4: just automatically think that's not going to work for them.
- 11:04Speaker 4: So like I had all these options on a table
- 11:07Speaker 4: and like, things that were scary and, like, things that
- 11:11Speaker 4: she would never try. And I'd pull them up and
- 11:14Speaker 4: be like, let's try this one. She's like, no, no, no,
- 11:15Speaker 4: that doesn't suit me.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say, did they say that
- 11:18Speaker 2: doesn't suit me?
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, but the thing is, like, how do you know
- 11:20Speaker 4: that doesn't suit you? They've had one bad experience in
- 11:22Speaker 4: a store. I used to do that a few years
- 11:27Speaker 4: ago and just stick to what I felt good in
- 11:29Speaker 4: at that one time and not only ever buy variations
- 11:34Speaker 4: of that style. And I would see things in a
- 11:36Speaker 4: store and be like, no, that doesn't– I can't wear
- 11:37Speaker 4: a v-neck. yeah because I had this one time I
- 11:40Speaker 4: tried on a v-neck and who knows.
- 11:42Speaker 5: What mood I was in yeah yeah or like what
- 11:44Speaker 5: the fit was like there's so many things to consider
- 11:48Speaker 5: I think that is so relatable and something that I
- 11:51Speaker 5: say all the time like I can't wear.
- 11:53Speaker 4: That literally and like I think like you nine times
- 11:56Speaker 4: out of ten I didn't even think it'd be nine
- 11:59Speaker 4: maybe eight times out of ten you still might be
- 12:00Speaker 4: right but there could be that little chance where you
- 12:02Speaker 4: might try a top or a jacket or even like
- 12:05Speaker 4: a pair of earrings that you're like, Ooh, I can't
- 12:07Speaker 4: wear those earrings. Cause you've tried, you've had this weird
- 12:09Speaker 4: memory that you think, Oh no, like I had that
- 12:12Speaker 4: time where I tried it on and like, well, I
- 12:13Speaker 4: can't wear, I can't wear halter neck tops. I'm like,
- 12:16Speaker 4: who said you can't wear halter neck tops?
- 12:17Speaker 2: I also think we get in our heads of being like,
- 12:19Speaker 2: I'm not cool enough to wear something like, and it's like,
- 12:23Speaker 2: but if you wear it, then you automatically are.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Yeah. But it's just like, it's great. I literally yesterday,
- 12:28Speaker 4: I was like, Whoa, this is like, it's still such
- 12:30Speaker 4: a big thing. Cause I, I work with a lot
- 12:32Speaker 4: of clients now they're like they trust the process with
- 12:34Speaker 4: styling yeah and I'm always like just trust me just
- 12:37Speaker 4: like try it on and like we might both hate
- 12:40Speaker 4: it like there's been times with oh.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Really yeah it's not it you're like okay you were
- 12:44Speaker 2: right maybe it's not.
- 12:45Speaker 4: It they've honestly been like there's been styling sessions for
- 12:49Speaker 4: example with um Francesca Hung and we literally will have
- 12:52Speaker 4: moments where we've like been texting each other this dress
- 12:54Speaker 4: and we both think it's going to be insane. And
- 12:57Speaker 4: then we go to put it on and like neither,
- 13:00Speaker 4: both of us are like unverbal and we're just looking
- 13:03Speaker 4: at it and we're just like, I hate it. Take
- 13:05Speaker 4: it off. So like that happens too. But I think
- 13:08Speaker 4: because I work in this space, I'm okay with that.
- 13:11Speaker 4: And I've got to just move on. Whereas that's really
- 13:14Speaker 4: deflating to someone that has been on the internet, sent
- 13:17Speaker 4: the photo to all their girlfriends and they're like, I'm
- 13:20Speaker 4: obsessed with this dress. It comes in and then they
- 13:22Speaker 4: don't actually think it's, The dress is not working for them.
- 13:25Speaker 4: It's them not working for the dress. And I don't
- 13:28Speaker 4: want to go anymore. I'm going to wear something in
- 13:30Speaker 4: my own cupboard, but it's not actually you. It's the dress.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Like the dress isn't right for you.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I needed to hear that.
- 13:37Speaker 4: A big thing that lots of women I find, they
- 13:41Speaker 4: might not be that size six. And then they think
- 13:44Speaker 4: straight away, no, I can't like show my waist. It
- 13:46Speaker 4: needs to be loose. And I'm like, that's again a
- 13:49Speaker 4: big mistake because your body like is– the canvas like
- 13:54Speaker 4: you want to show off like your waist when you
- 13:56Speaker 4: try hide it that's when the outfit starts going south
- 13:59Speaker 4: south i feel.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Like yeah when you're trying to hide yourself rather than your.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Waist is your biggest asset like you've got to show
- 14:06Speaker 4: it like it's showing the portions of your body when
- 14:09Speaker 4: you try hide those that's when the it kind.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Of gets a bit i don't know yeah you don't
- 14:13Speaker 2: see the the canvas if you will i love that
- 14:17Speaker 2: what are some things a celebrity stylist would never buy
- 14:23Speaker 2: It can just be personal taste as well. Just to
- 14:25Speaker 2: be messy, I want to know.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I would never buy. That's a really hard one.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Because you're like, I'll give it to you.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I still buy like LaVisa. For me, it's like if
- 14:35Speaker 4: it works with the outfit, I don't care if it's
- 14:38Speaker 4: $ 10 or if it's $ 500. But if it's going to
- 14:42Speaker 4: make the outfit better, I'm going to LaVisa and buying
- 14:45Speaker 4: those $ 20 earrings.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Love that.
- 14:48Speaker 4: So I don't know. That's a hard question for me.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Cause I feel like if it, if it's right for
- 14:52Speaker 4: the look, I'm going to do it.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Are there any like certain items like, or styles, like
- 14:59Speaker 2: the first thing that pops into my mind is like.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Capris, which is a thing for me.
- 15:04Speaker 2: That it's like certain things that you're like, I just don't,
- 15:08Speaker 2: can't make that work.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Like you're like, that's the one that I'm like, I
- 15:11Speaker 4: think for me it'd be skinny jeans now. I don't
- 15:14Speaker 4: think I– and I see it coming back.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And I'm a hand on heart used to be that
- 15:20Speaker 4: guy that wore the tightest skinny jeans but I didn't know.
- 15:24Speaker 4: I just don't want them to come back.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so fair. Yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 2: We had this conversation the other day as well and
- 15:30Speaker 2: we were like– because it's also coming back in like
- 15:33Speaker 2: women's and men's fashion.
- 15:35Speaker 4: No, it was like all over the Prada runway. Like
- 15:37Speaker 4: everything was tight and I'm like, it's coming.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And I'm like, no.
- 15:41Speaker 4: I say that, next year I'm going to be in
- 15:42Speaker 4: like the tightest jeans. I'm like, it's okay.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I can't wait. Honestly, and that's what we say.
- 15:47Speaker 2: We're like, also it can come back and you can
- 15:50Speaker 2: style it in a different way, you know, in a
- 15:53Speaker 2: more modern way. But what actually makes an item easy
- 15:56Speaker 2: to style and wear repeatedly?
- 15:58Speaker 4: I think the fit. So I think if you love
- 16:03Speaker 4: the way something fits, you're going to be able to
- 16:05Speaker 4: style it so many ways. It's when you get that
- 16:07Speaker 4: pair of like jeans or pants. And what I do
- 16:10Speaker 4: is I alter everything. So I think a lot of
- 16:14Speaker 4: people don't do that. Or they're time poor and they don't.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I have like an alteration lady in Sydney and Melbourne.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Like this little lady, this lady that lives in, it's
- 16:24Speaker 4: just in Haymarket. And I literally drop everything to her.
- 16:27Speaker 4: And it's not expensive, but it changes the way you
- 16:30Speaker 4: feel in the clothes. I think just like taking in
- 16:33Speaker 4: the waist that little bit or taking up the hem
- 16:35Speaker 4: or taking in the pant a little bit because it's
- 16:37Speaker 4: those things when you wear it and you're like fidgeting
- 16:40Speaker 4: and you hate about it. So then when you're trying
- 16:42Speaker 4: to style it, you already hate the outfit, but you
- 16:45Speaker 4: don't realize it's the fit. So I think the fit
- 16:48Speaker 4: for me is really important.
- 16:49Speaker 2: So it's such a good tip as well because I
- 16:51Speaker 2: think when something like works, like when it fits you
- 16:55Speaker 2: well and it works.
- 16:56Speaker 1: You end up wearing it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: All the time because it'll be like maybe you're going
- 16:59Speaker 2: out for friday drinks or something and you're like i'll
- 17:02Speaker 2: just wear that because you're like that's the faithful there
- 17:04Speaker 2: is literally.
- 17:04Speaker 4: No better feeling than when someone says oh my god
- 17:07Speaker 4: i love your outfit because then you're like oh my
- 17:08Speaker 4: god i look so good yeah that's like then then
- 17:11Speaker 4: your confidence like i do a lot of styling for
- 17:15Speaker 4: people that then go on like meet morning shows and
- 17:18Speaker 4: or they'll be behind the camera and i think you
- 17:21Speaker 4: don't realize if you love the way you feel in
- 17:23Speaker 4: an outfit like i have friends that say to me
- 17:25Speaker 4: oh i I don't really care about fashion. I'm like, yeah,
- 17:28Speaker 4: but you don't realize that if you are in an
- 17:29Speaker 4: outfit you love, your mood is just like 20 times better.
- 17:34Speaker 4: And even if you don't like, you're not this huge
- 17:36Speaker 4: fashion person, it's how you feel. Like, and you see
- 17:38Speaker 4: them when they come to like a dinner and they
- 17:40Speaker 4: are loving their dress and you're like, where have you been? Like,
- 17:42Speaker 4: just like feeling so good.
- 17:44Speaker 3: That's so good. Do you have any like golden rules
- 17:49Speaker 3: for fits? So for example, I hear like, I don't
- 17:52Speaker 3: know that you're, I heard somebody the other day saying
- 17:55Speaker 3: that your pants should always kiss the ground.
- 17:58Speaker 1: So do you have any like tips around that?
- 18:01Speaker 4: For like suiting, there's all different types of things like
- 18:05Speaker 4: that rules you should follow. But my thing is just
- 18:08Speaker 4: like dressing to your body shape. I think like I
- 18:11Speaker 4: could say to you like, oh, like, the pants you
- 18:14Speaker 4: need the pants to be to this length or you
- 18:16Speaker 4: need the pants to be here but that might not
- 18:18Speaker 4: be good for your body i think like try not
- 18:22Speaker 4: it's it's easier said than done try not to compare
- 18:25Speaker 4: what you're doing to the person next to you and
- 18:28Speaker 4: like i do like big styling suites with that where
- 18:30Speaker 4: i'm styling seven women for an award show and i
- 18:35Speaker 4: try to make sure that it's hard but like you
- 18:37Speaker 4: don't want any of them to look at the other
- 18:39Speaker 4: person and be like why does their dress look like
- 18:42Speaker 4: that on me? It's, yeah, it's, but I think for me,
- 18:45Speaker 4: just dressing to your body. Yeah. Would be a tip.
- 18:48Speaker 2: What are some of the things that people could do
- 18:51Speaker 2: in like their everyday outfits, like work fits or like
- 18:54Speaker 2: weekend fits that instantly just like level it up a
- 18:58Speaker 2: little bit. Like it goes from just like a fit
- 19:00Speaker 2: to like a fit.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Accessories for me. Like I just recently, and I like,
- 19:06Speaker 4: and buy that, buy that like, staple like that that
- 19:09Speaker 4: belt that you've been looking at for ages like for
- 19:12Speaker 4: me it was I actually saw another guy wearing the
- 19:16Speaker 4: this Gucci belt but I had always seen it I'm
- 19:18Speaker 4: like oh that's really cool like I feel like I
- 19:21Speaker 4: could style that in heaps of different ways but it's
- 19:23Speaker 4: like one of those pieces that if I can buy
- 19:26Speaker 4: it I'll buy it and then I was I just
- 19:28Speaker 4: was like no fuck it I'm gonna I swear yeah
- 19:31Speaker 4: I'm gonna buy it and then honestly it's made so
- 19:35Speaker 4: many outfits feel so elevated but even like a pair
- 19:39Speaker 4: of shoes that I really want or just like there's
- 19:42Speaker 4: one little styling accessory pieces for women it's like I'm
- 19:45Speaker 4: always about the bags yeah Or the shoes or like
- 19:49Speaker 4: I'll like throw in this like random contrast shoe or
- 19:52Speaker 4: a pop of color. Yeah. I think like if you're
- 19:55Speaker 4: like someone that likes wearing monochrome and all black, add
- 20:00Speaker 4: in a pop of color, add in something. Yeah, a
- 20:02Speaker 4: little red. Also what we said at the start of this,
- 20:05Speaker 4: like I think dressing like it's like a sex in
- 20:09Speaker 4: the city or it's like one of those shows, like
- 20:11Speaker 4: when you like are a bit extra, that's when someone's
- 20:14Speaker 4: noticing your outfit. When you're in active wear, I was
- 20:17Speaker 4: talking to a friend, she's like, why do we come
- 20:18Speaker 4: back to Sydney and Australia and we're always in active wear?
- 20:22Speaker 4: Or we're all just like not dressing up just for
- 20:26Speaker 4: the daytime.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, there was.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Some celebrity that was talking about this and I can't
- 20:32Speaker 2: remember who it was and it was some like, more
- 20:34Speaker 2: mature woman who was like an.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Icon and she was like, I hate it when people
- 20:38Speaker 1: were active wear. She was like, stop wearing it everywhere.
- 20:41Speaker 2: She's like, unless you go into the gym, don't wear it,
- 20:43Speaker 2: which like I'm very much like a lover comfies evidently.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And what about if you have a special event?
- 20:57Speaker 2: Like if you have a birthday or a wedding or
- 21:01Speaker 2: what can you do to elevate your outfit?
- 21:03Speaker 1: Where would you start?
- 21:05Speaker 4: I think like way to go back to your question.
- 21:08Speaker 4: I am a huge believer in that. The outfit doesn't
- 21:13Speaker 4: just stop on the outfit. The outfit is about the
- 21:16Speaker 4: glam and about the whole look. Honestly, I like, I
- 21:19Speaker 4: work with Natalie Ann hair in Sydney a lot. And I,
- 21:24Speaker 4: what she always says, she's like, you get so, you're
- 21:27Speaker 4: so hands-on and so excited by the hair and the glam.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Cause it does, it changes the look. So I think,
- 21:32Speaker 4: especially for a wedding, I think I, I, A lot
- 21:35Speaker 4: of people will like get a dress, be like, oh no,
- 21:38Speaker 4: I'll just do the glam when I, because I'm in
- 21:39Speaker 4: a rush or they won't think about how the hair
- 21:42Speaker 4: and makeup is going to make the look. And it does.
- 21:45Speaker 2: How would you like know what hair to do with
- 21:49Speaker 2: like what style? Like for example, if it's like a
- 21:51Speaker 2: high neck, like do you do a certain style?
- 21:54Speaker 4: I'm on Pinterest. So like I will literally like search
- 21:57Speaker 4: that dress and see what, who's, or find like a
- 22:00Speaker 4: celebrity that, I'm obsessed with and see what hair she's
- 22:04Speaker 4: done and then show that to my hairdresser because, like,
- 22:09Speaker 4: we're not hairdressers and, like, we're not makeup artists. But
- 22:11Speaker 4: I think especially with makeup artists, like, I work with
- 22:14Speaker 4: so many, but you want to be able to show
- 22:17Speaker 4: them what you want. A big mistake is they'll sit
- 22:20Speaker 4: in the chair and be like, I just want to, like,
- 22:23Speaker 4: I just want to be bronzy. But, like, what is that?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so vague.
- 22:27Speaker 4: And that version of bronze. is so different to the
- 22:31Speaker 4: makeup artist to what you've got in your head. So
- 22:33Speaker 4: I'm a visual person. I think you've got to be
- 22:35Speaker 4: able to have, save all the inspo.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 2: One thing that a makeup artist said to me, like
- 22:40Speaker 2: asked me recently was like, I like took an inspo
- 22:43Speaker 2: photo from Pinterest and then they went, do you have
- 22:46Speaker 2: any photos of like makeup on yourself that you really liked?
- 22:50Speaker 2: And like, can you show me that? And then show
- 22:51Speaker 2: me like makeup that maybe you didn't like and why.
- 22:55Speaker 4: And honestly, what I do now is, yes you can
- 22:59Speaker 4: get inspo but go through the makeup artists that you've
- 23:02Speaker 4: booked and find something on their page that you love
- 23:05Speaker 4: it's like if someone books me to sell them and
- 23:07Speaker 4: they didn't like any of the styling on my page
- 23:09Speaker 4: i'm like what are we doing here yeah what am
- 23:12Speaker 4: i to find something on their page that you love
- 23:14Speaker 4: because then they'll work off that it's easier to do
- 23:17Speaker 4: that than to do a completely random.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Look how would you describe your style of styling.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I think mine's kind of like I'm a bit more
- 23:26Speaker 4: pulled back. A lot more, like, less is more. I
- 23:30Speaker 4: don't think you need to have everything in an outfit.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I think, like, if it doesn't need it, I won't
- 23:38Speaker 4: do it. Or, like, I like to edit. So, like,
- 23:40Speaker 4: once the outfit's all together, I'll literally look at it
- 23:43Speaker 4: and be like, no, I hate it.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Is it Coco Chanel or something? It's like, take one
- 23:48Speaker 1: thing off. Yeah. Is that it?
- 23:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it is.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, before you leave the house, take one thing off.
- 23:52Speaker 4: I just think, like, it doesn't, like, it can... If
- 23:55Speaker 4: everything makes sense in the look, that's going to be
- 23:58Speaker 4: stronger than having, say, every amazing thing you've found.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Yeah. How can people edit their outfits?
- 24:07Speaker 4: I still kind of do. There's like a three-color rule
- 24:10Speaker 4: that I try to stick by. So if you use
- 24:14Speaker 4: three colors in the same scope, so if you use
- 24:16Speaker 4: like a pink, an orange, and a green in a look,
- 24:20Speaker 4: but you just stick to those in the whole look.
- 24:22Speaker 4: So if it's like a pale pink and then a
- 24:24Speaker 4: darker pink, it actually all does work. So sticking to
- 24:28Speaker 4: a three-color rule is great or I love a monochromatic look.
- 24:32Speaker 4: So I wore a suit yesterday where everything was beige.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Not for everyone, but I think that's really strong and
- 24:40Speaker 4: it's not wearing like seven different colors, but not saying
- 24:43Speaker 4: that if you want to wear seven different colors, go crazy.
- 24:46Speaker 4: But I think as a guide– The three-color look does
- 24:50Speaker 4: really help.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:51Speaker 2: What do you think about, like, the seasons and how
- 24:54Speaker 2: the color theory has, like, really popped off of being, like,
- 24:57Speaker 2: I'm an autumn.
- 24:58Speaker 4: It's crazy. And it does, like, I see, like, a
- 25:00Speaker 4: lot of– I do think it does work. I haven't
- 25:04Speaker 4: actually done mine yet. I probably should.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I'd be so invested to know what you are.
- 25:09Speaker 4: But, like, I don't know.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Would you listen to it, though? Or would you be like,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I'm just going to wear whatever I want?
- 25:13Speaker 4: I mean, I would take it on board, but, um,
- 25:16Speaker 4: I do like, I have known some people that are
- 25:19Speaker 4: so hard on it. Like, um, they'll be like, no, no, no,
- 25:23Speaker 4: I can't wear anything but burgundy. I'm like, Oh, okay. Like,
- 25:26Speaker 4: or like, they'll just, it's, I'm just, I'm just a
- 25:28Speaker 4: warm color. And like, I think there is, there is
- 25:31Speaker 4: truth to it. So I don't know. Again, it's however
- 25:35Speaker 4: you feel in it. And I think that does help
- 25:39Speaker 4: put answers to why you feel better in some colors
- 25:43Speaker 4: and You know what I mean?
- 25:45Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Oh, 1,000%. There are colors that I'm like, yeah, that's
- 25:48Speaker 2: the color. And then I'm like, there's colors that I'm like,
- 25:52Speaker 2: get it away.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Allergic.
- 25:54Speaker 2: One thing that like I feel like I've fallen into
- 25:56Speaker 2: throughout my 20s especially was like buying clothes for like
- 26:00Speaker 2: a fantasy version of myself or like the different like
- 26:03Speaker 2: characters maybe that I wanted to be that wasn't actually
- 26:06Speaker 2: like the life I live or like who I am.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And especially now we have so many things that it's like,
- 26:14Speaker 1: Mob wife.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Is that it? Yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Then like the clean girl and like so many different aesthetics,
- 26:21Speaker 2: so many different like trends and so many different like
- 26:25Speaker 2: basically brands like sell you lifestyles now.
- 26:27Speaker 1: They don't sell you clothes.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Like so how do you stop buying things for like
- 26:31Speaker 2: a different version of yourself?
- 26:33Speaker 1: Like how do you identify who that is?
- 26:35Speaker 4: I think it's for me it's like I always try
- 26:38Speaker 4: for like a cost per wear. so especially for like
- 26:42Speaker 4: mob wife there were those really big fur jackets and
- 26:45Speaker 4: it was like where am i going to actually wear
- 26:47Speaker 4: it i think asking yourself like you'll try it on
- 26:51Speaker 4: and you'll feel oh my god this is so cool
- 26:53Speaker 4: and you'll be like this is amazing and you're looking
- 26:55Speaker 4: in the mirror and which.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Is great but then like bougie it's.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Like but where are you wearing it like yeah and
- 27:00Speaker 4: then it's like i i'm always like am i gonna
- 27:03Speaker 4: wear this like i'll try on a pair of jeans
- 27:05Speaker 4: that are like trying this pair of like acne jeans
- 27:07Speaker 4: that were like, I'm not going to be in New
- 27:09Speaker 4: York or I'm not going to be like, I'm where
- 27:11Speaker 4: am I actually going to, am I going to actually
- 27:13Speaker 4: wear these walking down Oxford street? Probably, but it's like
- 27:18Speaker 4: asking yourself how often, but then like, I don't know.
- 27:22Speaker 4: I feel like it's, if it's a really expensive piece
- 27:26Speaker 4: from that aesthetic as well. I don't know. I just,
- 27:29Speaker 4: I think asking yourself how many times you're going to
- 27:31Speaker 4: wear it. And also like if it's, If it's going
- 27:35Speaker 4: to be something that you're going to pick up a
- 27:37Speaker 4: year from now, and some people do.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:40Speaker 4: And you have those friends, you're like, how do you
- 27:43Speaker 4: rock every single aesthetic?
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 4: You're like, what the fuck? I can't even wear that.
- 27:49Speaker 4: But then, yeah, I don't know. I think it's just like,
- 27:51Speaker 4: but then also if you, I'm contradicting myself, but if
- 27:55Speaker 4: you want to be in a mob wife era for
- 27:58Speaker 4: a week, do it.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Like that's how you kind of figure out like what
- 28:02Speaker 2: you do and you don't like sometimes as well is
- 28:04Speaker 2: like going outside of your comfort zone a little bit.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Because they're at there there's gonna be outfits you look
- 28:10Speaker 4: at back on in like three months that you thought
- 28:13Speaker 4: you loved but.
- 28:14Speaker 2: You might hate them oh my god that's me looking
- 28:16Speaker 2: looking at outfits when i was like in my.
- 28:18Speaker 1: 20s i'm like what were you doing yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Like all those like instagram trends where it's like post
- 28:23Speaker 4: yourself from 10 years ago. And then you're looking at
- 28:25Speaker 4: what you're wearing from 10 years.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Couldn't pay me to.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I'm like, I won't participate in that one. Speaking of,
- 28:30Speaker 2: we already covered skinny jeans.
- 28:32Speaker 3: So you know where we stand there, but as a
- 28:36Speaker 3: celebrity stylist, what's one fashion trend you would bring back
- 28:41Speaker 3: and what's one you would banish forever?
- 28:44Speaker 4: One that I would bring back. I like love, I
- 28:47Speaker 4: love everything. Like I'm just trying to think what I would,
- 28:50Speaker 4: bring back anything from that 90s supermodel era yeah i
- 28:53Speaker 4: feel like it's already.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Coming back anything from the 90s is just like perfection literally.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Like yeah um what would i not want back at
- 29:00Speaker 4: all though do you remember those like two-tone jeans the
- 29:06Speaker 4: two-tone it was like the front was the front was
- 29:08Speaker 4: a different color to the back i had a pair
- 29:13Speaker 4: of those but.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Yeah they can go they can go um.
- 29:17Speaker 4: What else or like the um Suit shoes, those real
- 29:22Speaker 4: thick suit square toe shoes with like skinny jeans. I'm
- 29:26Speaker 4: really painting a picture of what I used to look like.
- 29:30Speaker 1: You're just reading yourself, Phil.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Or actually, do you remember those like block heels in like,
- 29:38Speaker 4: that would be like electric blue. pink, that whole era of, like,
- 29:42Speaker 4: the block heel. Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Stiletto king.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:46Speaker 4: I love a point. What about you guys? What would you?
- 29:50Speaker 1: What would I banish forever? What do I hate?
- 29:54Speaker 4: The thing is it always comes back. So I'm like,
- 29:57Speaker 4: I say that, but then maybe in like two years,
- 29:59Speaker 4: all the bloom girls are wearing block heels.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I will say I'm not like a low, low rise
- 30:05Speaker 1: girl like that. I think I'm, I'm too old.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Like even like for me, kidding, really small kid in heels.
- 30:11Speaker 4: I like, I know they're really chic, but I struggle.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I like a heel.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I do. They're like, we went to an event
- 30:18Speaker 1: yesterday though.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And we had a friend and she was wearing like,
- 30:21Speaker 2: and I would, That's the thing is I would never
- 30:23Speaker 2: wear this outfit, but she looked incredible. She was wearing
- 30:27Speaker 2: this like cinch blazer, capris and a kitten heel. And
- 30:30Speaker 2: I was like, I need to go home and get changed.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Like I was like, I need to level up here.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Like I was like, you look so good.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Then you go try it on and you're like, this
- 30:37Speaker 4: is not me.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I couldn't like, I know that we're saying, we're like,
- 30:40Speaker 2: we need to stop saying that. But I'm like, I,
- 30:42Speaker 2: it's not an outfit for me. Like I wouldn't enjoy
- 30:45Speaker 2: myself in that. But looking at someone else, I'm like,
- 30:48Speaker 2: you look incredible, which I think like that's such.
- 30:50Speaker 1: A good, point to get to of being.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Like i don't have to wear everything i don't have
- 30:56Speaker 2: to wear every single thing that's in like the new
- 30:58Speaker 2: arrivals or that is trending or that is like the
- 31:01Speaker 2: it piece but.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Also in the same breath try it at least even
- 31:06Speaker 4: if you don't have to wear it just try it
- 31:08Speaker 4: on once like so many people don't try things.
- 31:11Speaker 1: And you might end up loving it.
- 31:12Speaker 4: You might like a lot of my clients that i
- 31:15Speaker 4: styled i never like one of the biggest things they'll
- 31:18Speaker 4: say is i never would have picked this and like
- 31:21Speaker 4: the whole like looking in the mirror and that's why
- 31:24Speaker 4: I love what I do it's that like second look
- 31:26Speaker 4: when you look back in the mirror and you're like
- 31:28Speaker 4: I look so fucking good but that's that moment where
- 31:31Speaker 4: you're like fuck yeah like that's why you should.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Wear clothes do you know what my favourite feeling in
- 31:36Speaker 2: the world is is when you don't have your makeup

- 31:39Speaker 2: a fake tan on and.
- 31:40Speaker 1: You feel amazing and you like the outfit you're like

- 31:49Speaker 4: and we're both just like If it looks this good now,
- 31:52Speaker 4: imagine when it's all done and like with like nice lighting.
- 31:55Speaker 4: It's like, yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You're like, I'm going to be too powerful.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Yeah. Okay.

- 32:22Speaker 4: The ones that– I like the two-tone ones. Pretty much
- 32:25Speaker 4: anything from the new Chanel.

- 33:12Speaker 2: reckon we'll be obsessed with in the near future?
- 33:14Speaker 4: I think animal prints one for sure. And color. I
- 33:20Speaker 4: think color is a really big one. Mixing metals. I
- 33:23Speaker 4: used to always be really shy away from it, but
- 33:28Speaker 4: mixing silver and gold, I think it's really cool.

- 33:33Speaker 1: like I wear more of my jewelry too if I

- 33:51Speaker 3: like piece to have. I feel like when I get
- 33:53Speaker 3: a watch, I'll know I've got my shit together. If
- 33:55Speaker 3: I'm wearing a watch, like best believe it's for the look.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Not because I need it for the time.
