- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31Have you ever been a pin to your own balloon?
- 0:34Meaning have you ever just come up with this exciting, wonderful
- 0:38thing that you want to do or something place you want to go
- 0:42or just something that really thrills you?
- 0:44And then all of a sudden your brain just clicks on and says,
- 0:48well, let me tell you all the reasons why this isn't going to
- 0:51work. Or let me tell you the reasons
- 0:52why we shouldn't do this. And all of a sudden that
- 0:55doubting damn part of the bus starts driving and before you
- 1:00know it, you have become the pin to your own balloon.
- 1:03You've popped the idea, you've said screw it, I'm not going to
- 1:06do it or this isn't going to work and you've talked yourself
- 1:09out of it before you even had a chance to bring a moment of it
- 1:12to life. Well, we all do this.
- 1:15And in my opinion, right now, this happens more than ever.
- 1:21I can't begin to express to you how much I see people just
- 1:27killing their own dreams, killing their own ideas, killing
- 1:30their own excitement, stabbing themselves to the point where
- 1:35they just feel defeated. And then it's like right back to
- 1:38the rat race. Now there are there's a theory
- 1:42out here about this as to, you know, why do people do this to
- 1:45themselves? Why shouldn't you be the biggest
- 1:47advocate for yourself? Well, one, it's because again,
- 1:51our emotions are here to help us.
- 1:53So when you start doubting that emotion is supposed to help you,
- 1:57it's supposed to give you the ability to make sure that you
- 2:01continue with caution, you proceed with caution.
- 2:05But that's not what happens. We don't use it that way.
- 2:08What we end up doing is we use it in a way that says, I'm just
- 2:11going to kill the idea. I'm going to squash the whole
- 2:13thing as opposed to I'm going to be thoughtful and I'm going to
- 2:16look at this from a perspective, get down all the things that
- 2:19could happen might happen, but you know, I'm still going to be
- 2:23enthusiastic about it. And I recently saw this in my
- 2:26own family because my daughter and her husband are thinking
- 2:29about doing something and taking doing a side business.
- 2:34And it's a great idea. It's a great idea.
- 2:39And she has really just gotten to the point where, you know,
- 2:44she had was like, well, I'm not sure.
- 2:46And you know, the truth is, is the idea right for them?
- 2:52The idea is an excellent idea. It might not be right for them
- 2:56where they are at their point in their life, but it's an
- 2:58excellent idea. But it didn't have to be killed
- 3:01for the reason which she was doing it, because her reason was
- 3:04very different than the actual reason.
- 3:07And sometimes it takes an outside voice.
- 3:09Sometimes you have to sit down with a trusted person who's not
- 3:13going to just be negative to you, but it's going to actually
- 3:15give you thoughts on it and say, well, here are the pros and
- 3:19cons. Like that old school way of
- 3:20doing a pros and cons list is actually very strong and very
- 3:24powerful, but you've got to do it from neutral.
- 3:27You can't do it from a place of saying, hey, I'm going to just,
- 3:32I'm, I'm going to just put this on this piece of paper and beat
- 3:35myself up about it. I'm just going to the pros and
- 3:37cons list are going to just be that just pros and cons, but I'm
- 3:40going to do it from neutral. I'm not going to do it from a
- 3:42place of trying to really hard beat myself up for this idea and
- 3:48thinking it's stupid, because the moment you start thinking
- 3:50the idea is stupid, you're in the wrong emotion.
- 3:53The moment you start thinking that you're anything other than
- 3:56neutral about it, you're in the wrong emotion.
- 3:59You know, I can't stress that enough.
- 4:02I have to do that with myself all the time.
- 4:04I recently was asked to go out and do a job at A at a big event
- 4:09and I, I gave them a quote, went through the whole process and
- 4:13actually sat there and said I'm totally neutral either way.
- 4:16Don't care if I go, don't care if I don't go.
- 4:19And that's the place that you want to be in when you've made a
- 4:22solid decision. Like yes, I'd go, sure I'd go,
- 4:25I'd be happy to go, but I don't care.
- 4:28I'm detached from it and I'm doing it from the right emotion
- 4:31as opposed to being negative and killing the dream because of
- 4:35that fear or the anxiety or the frustration of not knowing how
- 4:40to do something that is critically important.
- 4:43You've got to like get past that.
- 4:45You've got to get past that piece of yourself.
- 4:47So I thought today it would be worth it to ask you guys, you
- 4:51know, how many times have you wiped out your own dream?
- 4:53How many times have you just said, you know, no, I'm not even
- 4:57going to try. I'm not even going to see how I
- 4:58can put it together. Because sometimes we look at it
- 5:00and we just say, oh, man, this is so overwhelmingly big.
- 5:04I'm never going to get this done.
- 5:05I'm never going to have this happen.
- 5:08And from that point, no, you will not.
- 5:11From that standpoint, you will not make it happen because it's
- 5:14not the right emotion to be in. But once you start to get out of
- 5:18that emotion and you start to move up the ladder a bit with
- 5:22it, you start to, or in my metaphor, move to the front of
- 5:25the bus, get to the better emotions that you want at the
- 5:28front of the bus, the ones that serve you better.
- 5:32All of a sudden, everything starts to change.
- 5:34So I'm going to challenge you guys to think about it.
- 5:36How many times have you killed your own dream?
- 5:39And are those dreams still back there lingering?
- 5:41Are there things back there that you just know you know, would
- 5:45mean something to you? Whether it's, you know,
- 5:47finishing your college degree, whether it's learning to paint,
- 5:50I don't care what it is. It could be.
- 5:52Whether it's create your own business, who knows what it
- 5:55could be. But the truth is, if it's back
- 5:57there and it's still with you and you still think about it,
- 6:00then work towards that finds the way to do it.
- 6:04Have someone help you do something that would move you in
- 6:08the right direction. Because I promise you, the level
- 6:10of happiness you'll feel when you get there is astounding.
- 6:14So I hope you guys have an amazing, amazing day and I will
- 6:17see you all tomorrow. Bye.
