- 1:44Speaker 3: in a matter of what seemed like minutes. It was
- 1:45Speaker 3: actually a little bit longer than that. We're going to
- 1:47Speaker 3: talk to Brad McIlhaney about that. Also in our second
- 1:50Speaker 3: set we deblag at jb Acres is going to be here.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I'll talk to him about the special Session, but also
- 1:55Speaker 3: he's had some attacks, if you will, levied upon him
- 1:58Speaker 3: by the State Democratic Party. I'm gonna let mister Delegate
- 2:01Speaker 3: Acres speak to that. And of course, the big news
- 2:05Speaker 3: if you're a sports fan as i am, the death
- 2:07Speaker 3: of Pete Rose that was announced last night. A couple
- 2:10Speaker 3: of Red Superstar fans that are within our company, Dale
- 2:14Speaker 3: Cooper and Jeff Jenkins are going to join us to
- 2:17Speaker 3: talk about that. And I do want to mention this,
- 2:19Speaker 3: speaking of mister Jenkins, hope you were able to hear
- 2:22Speaker 3: him on the Morning News. Chris Lawrence actually kind of
- 2:25Speaker 3: surprised him this morning. Jeff is going into the Western
- 2:28Speaker 3: Indian Broadcasting Hall of Fame tonight ceremony of course in Huntington.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Also from our sister station one O seven three to
- 2:34Speaker 3: beat what he Woods is going into the Broadcasting Hall
- 2:36Speaker 3: of Fame tonight as well, and so I'll touch on
- 2:39Speaker 3: that a little bit. But Jeff, but if you missed
- 2:40Speaker 3: it on the Morning News, Chris somehow had archival audio
- 2:46Speaker 3: of a young Jeff Jenkins as a student at WU
- 2:49Speaker 3: interviewing the late Senator Jennings Randolph. It was good stuff.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Maybe Chris will upload that to the website or on
- 2:56Speaker 3: the social media a little bit later on. So we're
- 2:57Speaker 3: going to talk to Jeff and Coop about the death
- 3:00Speaker 3: of Pete Rose coming up a little bit later on Plus.
- 3:02Speaker 3: As I said, your phone calls and text were always welcome.

- 3:13Speaker 3: in Monte Carlo benefiting Goodwill Coming to the Clay Center Friday,
- 3:17Speaker 3: October eleventh. Magad Deal Jaman Schmid from Goodwill. We're here
- 3:20Speaker 3: to talk about it. Megan, good morning, welcome to the show.
- 3:23Speaker 5: You do have a lot going on.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I do have a lot going on. I always have
- 3:26Speaker 3: a lot going on. Mon Good to have you here
- 3:28Speaker 3: with us as well.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Hey, thank you so much.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Glad to be here now. You folks who were on
- 3:31Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago to do the big reveal
- 3:33Speaker 3: of this event. Now you're back. So for people that
- 3:35Speaker 3: may have missed about this big event happening at the
- 3:37Speaker 3: Clay Center October eleven, take it from the top. Tell
- 3:40Speaker 3: us what's going on.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Hey next week next Friday, big event, dancing, good times
- 3:47Speaker 6: with Bob Thompson, DJEJ. We're gonna have rifle games, a
- 3:50Speaker 6: silent auction. It's gonna be an awesome night. Definitely a
- 3:52Speaker 6: night you won't want to forget or miss.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Sorry and well forget our miss. So what did the
- 3:58Speaker 3: idea to do on My United Money Carlo come from?
- 4:01Speaker 7: We had just kind of found that there was a
- 4:03Speaker 7: little bit of an opening in the Fall Arena to
- 4:06Speaker 7: have a nice event, a Monty Carlo event.
- 4:08Speaker 5: We thought that would be fun with the raffle games dinner.
- 4:11Speaker 7: Who doesn't want to get dressed up and go out
- 4:14Speaker 7: have dinner dancing.
- 4:15Speaker 5: This will be a great little.
- 4:16Speaker 7: Date night in the FALLBEFU plays the next day, so
- 4:20Speaker 7: you'll have plenty of time to get on the road
- 4:21Speaker 7: and head up to the game.
- 4:23Speaker 3: What did the idea though, I mean, what exactly goes
- 4:25Speaker 3: on at a night in Monty Carlo? What's the theme about?
- 4:27Speaker 7: For those amazing so the Knight of Money Carlo, you're
- 4:29Speaker 7: thanking great gaps see art deco type vibes, and we
- 4:33Speaker 7: know that there's a lot of great gapsy art deco
- 4:35Speaker 7: events out there and they're a lot of fun. So
- 4:36Speaker 7: we kind of just wanted to be a little bit different.
- 4:38Speaker 7: So Night in Monte Carlo was born. We started it
- 4:40Speaker 7: last year. But yeah, just talking about a little bit
- 4:43Speaker 7: of that old world Hollywood glam gaming, you know, dancing
- 4:49Speaker 7: cigar lounge with the vip of vip bourbon.
- 4:53Speaker 5: So that's going to be super exciting.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And how do you get tickets for this?
- 4:57Speaker 6: So GOODWILLKV dot com still works, but we have a
- 5:00Speaker 6: name change.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I was going to get that. You guys have got
- 5:03Speaker 3: a name change, so's to talk about that.
- 5:05Speaker 6: So we are now good Will Entries of the Summit. However,
- 5:09Speaker 6: our good Wild kV account still works, So if you
- 5:11Speaker 6: look up good Will Interestries of the Summit or goodwillcav
- 5:14Speaker 6: dot com, it will take you to our website. You
- 5:16Speaker 6: can go nine mone in Carl and purchase tickets from there,
- 5:18Speaker 6: or if you follow us on social media of course
- 5:20Speaker 6: that's an easy way to get to us as well.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Explain the new name. Why why the name change? I'm
- 5:24Speaker 3: gonna hoad and pitch it to million, all right mate?
- 5:27Speaker 5: Yeah, so this has been several years in the making.
- 5:29Speaker 7: So you know, though, we are headquartered here in the
- 5:32Speaker 7: Canal Valley and we're so proud to be headquartered here
- 5:34Speaker 7: in our capital city. We have a twenty county area,
- 5:37Speaker 7: so sometimes our name was not inclusive of all the
- 5:41Speaker 7: areas that we're serving. We go as north as Wood
- 5:43Speaker 7: and as south as Mercer, So we wanted a name
- 5:46Speaker 7: that would better cover that territory and just be a
- 5:49Speaker 7: little bit more inclusive of all the West Virginians that
- 5:52Speaker 7: we're serving, and Goodwill the Summit was born, you know.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And I've had you folks on the show many many
- 5:57Speaker 3: times in the past, not just about this event but others.
- 6:00Speaker 3: But again, I think that's a good point that you
- 6:01Speaker 3: bring up, Megan, is that we think of it is
- 6:04Speaker 3: here in the Kenaw Valley because it's where we are,
- 6:06Speaker 3: But you guys are all over the place.
- 6:08Speaker 7: We are all over the place and always looking for
- 6:10Speaker 7: different ways and innovative ways to serve those counties that
- 6:14Speaker 7: we are out in the community. A Night in Money
- 6:17Speaker 7: Carlow as a fundraiser that benefits those programs, one being
- 6:20Speaker 7: Mission Mobile, which is a bus.
- 6:23Speaker 5: If you will.
- 6:23Speaker 7: It's a career center on wheels that we take our
- 6:25Speaker 7: programming out into our rural communities. So if we have individuals,
- 6:29Speaker 7: say in rural Braxton County, where we don't have a
- 6:32Speaker 7: retail footprint right now, where we can go out and
- 6:35Speaker 7: serve them through our stores, we can take the bus
- 6:37Speaker 7: up to a parking lot and say hey, here's a
- 6:40Speaker 7: resume running course.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Here are cours Ara courses on Google.
- 6:44Speaker 7: Here is a way that you can help you sign
- 6:46Speaker 7: up for Snap benefits and things like that. So we're
- 6:48Speaker 7: always looking for ways to truly meet West Virginians where
- 6:51Speaker 7: they're at and a night money Carlo is what helped
- 6:54Speaker 7: funds that.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And I think you brought it up last time that
- 6:56Speaker 3: you folks were here just a couple of weeks ago.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Is that when people think goodwill, they automatically of the stores,
- 7:00Speaker 3: so they think of the bins where they can donate things.
- 7:03Speaker 3: But it's a whole lot more than.
- 7:04Speaker 8: That, right, that's correct.
- 7:05Speaker 7: Yeah, so we have a lot. I mean, we have
- 7:07Speaker 7: a lot in the community. We're serving thousands of West
- 7:09Speaker 7: Virginians every year. Our goal is to help West Virginians
- 7:12Speaker 7: achieve financial stability through employment. We want them above the
- 7:15Speaker 7: poverty line. We want them to be able to purchase
- 7:18Speaker 7: a vehicle, we want them to be able to stay
- 7:19Speaker 7: in West Virginia.
- 7:20Speaker 5: We employ a lot of individuals through our.
- 7:22Speaker 7: Stores and our different subsidiaries, over one thousand West Virginians.
- 7:26Speaker 7: But we're placing people out in the community every day
- 7:29Speaker 7: to you know, we want them to obviously stay with us,
- 7:32Speaker 7: but if their career takes them farther to achieve their dreams,
- 7:34Speaker 7: we're going to do everything we can.
- 7:35Speaker 5: To get them there.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Talking with make a deal and Jamon Schmidt of Goodwill,
- 7:39Speaker 3: and you have to forgive us, because we have you
- 7:41Speaker 3: on several times a year. It will take a little
- 7:43Speaker 3: while to get used to the new name and give
- 7:44Speaker 3: us a new name again.
- 7:45Speaker 6: Good Oil Industries of the Summit, good.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Will Industries of the Summit. Well, let me let you
- 7:49Speaker 3: know with the Dave Allen Show in five eighty live.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It's brought to you right by Husband's Pizza. This month
- 7:53Speaker 3: at your favorite Hustans, you can get a large eighteen
- 7:55Speaker 3: inch pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie
- 7:58Speaker 3: for only twenty three ninety nine. What about sponsorships, Jimon,
- 8:01Speaker 3: I mean, are they still available? Because I know when
- 8:03Speaker 3: you sponsor an event, you know you gotta have time
- 8:05Speaker 3: to put it on shirts and on on on packaging
- 8:07Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. Do you still need
- 8:09Speaker 3: sponsors for the event?
- 8:11Speaker 6: So my understanding is that we are How do you want.
- 8:14Speaker 7: To say this, man, So let's just say signage has
- 8:17Speaker 7: been printed for our current sponsors, but we are always
- 8:21Speaker 7: welcome to craft a sponsorship.
- 8:23Speaker 5: That any way anybody needs it done, so we can
- 8:25Speaker 5: make magic things happen.
- 8:27Speaker 3: In marketing, well, we have like and the reason I
- 8:29Speaker 3: say that is because I know we have a lot
- 8:30Speaker 3: of business people that listen to the show and if
- 8:34Speaker 3: they wanted to buy a table or something like that,
- 8:36Speaker 3: is that still available.
- 8:37Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely so. Tickets and those type of things are
- 8:40Speaker 7: still available. But if people want to reach out to
- 8:42Speaker 7: us at Marketing at Goodwillsummit dot com and say hey,
- 8:44Speaker 7: I would really like to sponsor in some type of way,
- 8:47Speaker 7: we can always make those things happen.
- 8:48Speaker 3: So listen up, business owners, a business managers. If you
- 8:51Speaker 3: want to do something nice for your employees and help
- 8:53Speaker 3: out Goodwill of the Summit, that's a great way to
- 8:55Speaker 3: do it. You could just buy a table absolutely and sunnight.
- 8:58Speaker 7: I mean, it's just it's a fall evening and we're
- 9:01Speaker 7: so excited to beat the Clay Center this year.
- 9:03Speaker 5: It's gonna beautiful.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Well, I mean the Clay Center is absolutely fantastic anyway,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and you add all the things with it, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 3: the Monty Carlo and the games and the whole deal. No,
- 9:12Speaker 3: pun intended make You've never heard any jokes about your
- 9:16Speaker 3: last name, never the real deal or the real like.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I've never like, I've never been told you have a
- 9:22Speaker 3: face for radio either. I've never heard that. Every time
- 9:25Speaker 3: somebody tells me that, I'm like, oh wow, I've never
- 9:27Speaker 3: heard that one before. But anyway, it's a great way
- 9:31Speaker 3: for people to get involved. As you said, a night
- 9:33Speaker 3: out on the town. You get dressed up a little bit,
- 9:36Speaker 3: uh and and in the end of the night, you're
- 9:37Speaker 3: still helping out a great, great cost. It is happening
- 9:40Speaker 3: on Friday, October eleventh at the Clay Center. It is
- 9:43Speaker 3: a night in Monte Carlo benefiting goodwill of the Summit.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Final selling points out Jimoon, I'm going to give you
- 9:50Speaker 3: the final selling pots.
- 9:50Speaker 6: Why should people come to this, I mean cigars, bourbon,
- 9:53Speaker 6: raffle games. Come on, really, this is gonna be a
- 9:56Speaker 6: night that everybody wants to participate in and wants to
- 9:58Speaker 6: be there for.
- 9:59Speaker 3: So don't miss out.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Don't be the one that missed it this year. Please
- 10:02Speaker 6: come out October eleventh, next Friday.
- 10:04Speaker 8: Let's do it.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Because everybody's gonna be talking about it and you're gonna
- 10:07Speaker 3: be sorry and when you see all the pictures posted.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Sometimes they put those pictures in the paper and they're
- 10:11Speaker 3: not out on the town segment. You see the pictures
- 10:13Speaker 3: on your social media, you're gonna be upset that you
- 10:15Speaker 3: didn't attend. I appreciate you guys, me and here. It's

- 14:31Speaker 8: initially a long call by the governor in terms of
- 14:33Speaker 8: the issues he wanted to discuss, but we knew most
- 14:35Speaker 8: of those were going to get referred to committee. We
- 14:37Speaker 8: have interims next week, so we're going to be back
- 14:38Speaker 8: in a weeks.
- 14:39Speaker 3: This stuff won't come back Sunday night, is that right?
- 14:41Speaker 8: That's correct, So these things won't be delayed very long.
- 14:43Speaker 8: They refer to committee, and you know, committee work is necessary.
- 14:45Speaker 8: That's where most of the effort goes in is in committee.
- 14:48Speaker 8: Once something gets to the House floor, usually most of
- 14:51Speaker 8: the hard work has been done. So I thought was
- 14:53Speaker 8: appropriate to refer some of the things that needs some
- 14:55Speaker 8: more fleshing out the committee that will be done over
- 14:57Speaker 8: the course of the next week. The stuff that I
- 14:59Speaker 8: think we easily agreeed on obviously got passed yesterday.
- 15:03Speaker 3: So what about the stuff that may not be so
- 15:05Speaker 3: easy to agree on? And like the Governor's propose tax
- 15:08Speaker 3: ut where are you on that?
- 15:10Speaker 8: Well, I mean, we have to see how we're going
- 15:12Speaker 8: to you know, if we're going to cut tax revenue,
- 15:16Speaker 8: then we have to make sure our spending is also
- 15:18Speaker 8: in control. So what what I have not seen personally
- 15:20Speaker 8: yet is a plan on the spending side, because you know,
- 15:24Speaker 8: we're cutting personal income tax this year. Anyway, we've already
- 15:26Speaker 8: had a reduction, we've had a trigger, which is great.
- 15:29Speaker 8: The governor wants an additional cut beyond what was planned.
- 15:32Speaker 8: So I've got to make sure the spending is done.
- 15:33Speaker 8: And if we have so many things that need to
- 15:35Speaker 8: be addressed in this state, we have water and sewer
- 15:38Speaker 8: infrastructure projects. Childcare is an issue, foster care is an issue.
- 15:42Speaker 8: Our ems funding needs to be addressed. That they're having
- 15:46Speaker 8: some real crisis right now across the state. So I'm
- 15:49Speaker 8: all for tax cuts. As a Republican, you're supposed to
- 15:50Speaker 8: always say that, but we got to be responsible. There
- 15:52Speaker 8: are certain things government has a duty to take care
- 15:55Speaker 8: of when it comes to public safety, for example, or
- 15:57Speaker 8: taking care of the public roads infrastructures, or examples I gave.
- 16:01Speaker 8: So we've got to make sure we can fund those properly.
- 16:03Speaker 3: And that seems to be delicate what I'm hearing from
- 16:05Speaker 3: a lot of people on both sides of the isle.
- 16:07Speaker 3: It's not especially your Republican counterparts. They're not against tax cuts.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Even people like Patrick Morrissey, who's run for governor, the
- 16:14Speaker 3: current attorney general, has said things like that, we're not
- 16:16Speaker 3: against tax cuts. We just want to make sure that
- 16:19Speaker 3: we're covering all the bases here. You've got to be responsible.
- 16:21Speaker 8: And I'll say I mean, I think Jim Justice has
- 16:23Speaker 8: done a good job in many ways as our governor. Economically,
- 16:28Speaker 8: I'm a fan of a lot of what he's done.
- 16:29Speaker 8: But we do have a new governor is about to
- 16:30Speaker 8: come in who I do believe will be Patrick Morrissey.
- 16:33Speaker 8: That's my educating guess. And you know, I think he
- 16:36Speaker 8: needs a bible to come in and have an agenda
- 16:38Speaker 8: that works for him as well.
- 16:39Speaker 3: So all right, talking to Delegate jv Acres, the Dave
- 16:43Speaker 3: Allen showing five any live bright to imparted by Bridge Valley.

- 16:58Speaker 3: dot edu slash apprenticeships today. All right, so let's get
- 17:00Speaker 3: to it, Deliot. Last week, the state Democratic Party issued
- 17:04Speaker 3: a press release, and let me just read a little
- 17:07Speaker 3: of the title as it appeared in my inbox. In
- 17:10Speaker 3: the inbox and most media members in the state. The
- 17:12Speaker 3: headline it said, West Virginia Democratic Party condemns Republican Delegate
- 17:18Speaker 3: jb Acres for representing Kremlin funded extremist podcaster Tim Poole.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Now let me continue with their words. Paragraph one. The
- 17:26Speaker 3: West Virginia Democratic Party issued a statement criticizing Republican Delegate
- 17:30Speaker 3: Acres for his decision to serve as legal counsel for
- 17:34Speaker 3: right wing extremist podcaster Tim Poole in his lawsuit against
- 17:37Speaker 3: the Harris for President campaign. Pool has been exposed as
- 17:41Speaker 3: a Kremlin funded propaganda's reportedly receiving one hundred thousand dollars
- 17:45Speaker 3: per episode to push devisive and false narratives favorable to
- 17:49Speaker 3: Vladimir Putin's regime. End of statement. Your response, Delegate, I.
- 17:55Speaker 8: Usually wouldn't want you to read what's an opponent says
- 17:58Speaker 8: about me, but in that situation, I'm glad you did.
- 18:00Speaker 8: It's and I want to tell your listeners this first
- 18:02Speaker 8: and foremost. I am a I'm a positive campaigner, and
- 18:06Speaker 8: you can go look at my social media right now.
- 18:08Speaker 8: Every post I put up this year has been a
- 18:10Speaker 8: positive post. It's about information I think voters need to
- 18:14Speaker 8: know about. Or it's some lighthearted posts when I knock
- 18:16Speaker 8: on doors. I'm a huge dog lover, so I'll post
- 18:18Speaker 8: about dogs i've seen that day. I'll post about my family.
- 18:21Speaker 8: I have not said one word about my opponent. I've
- 18:23Speaker 8: run for office once before and I didn't put up
- 18:25Speaker 8: negative you know, post or ads. Third party groups do
- 18:28Speaker 8: that to both sides. But I didn't want to say
- 18:31Speaker 8: a word about my opponent one reason. I mean, number one,
- 18:33Speaker 8: I'm just not that kind of person. I don't negative campaign.
- 18:36Speaker 8: But I've also known my opponent in this race, who
- 18:39Speaker 8: Mike Pushkin, who issued that press release, picked a run
- 18:42Speaker 8: against me. That's what she tells people. I've known her
- 18:45Speaker 8: for twenty plus years. I didn't want to say a
- 18:47Speaker 8: negative word about her. I know her wife, I know
- 18:49Speaker 8: her wife's family. I used to play church softball with
- 18:51Speaker 8: her wife's family. They were assaulted the Earth people. So
- 18:55Speaker 8: I just wanted to run my campaign and focus on myself.
- 18:57Speaker 8: She could run her campaign focus on herself. But she
- 18:59Speaker 8: signed off this press release as well. She said a
- 19:02Speaker 8: lot of hyper negative things about me before she's even
- 19:04Speaker 8: built up a positive name for herself. So I want
- 19:08Speaker 8: people to understand that this is not a Democrat versus
- 19:10Speaker 8: a Republican thing for me. They issued the press release
- 19:12Speaker 8: against me, they started I've got to respond to it
- 19:14Speaker 8: because I have you and other media who've asked me
- 19:16Speaker 8: to comment. So I have to say something. And you know, Dave,
- 19:20Speaker 8: there's a difference here between the political class who run
- 19:23Speaker 8: these things like these press releases versus average everyday voters.
- 19:26Speaker 8: And this is across the board, Republicans and Democrats alike.
- 19:29Speaker 8: So there's obviously lots of great, reasonable Democrats who I
- 19:34Speaker 8: know they're with him own family. I've got families split
- 19:36Speaker 8: politically and I love them all.
- 19:38Speaker 3: You know, Larry Rowe.
- 19:39Speaker 8: I want to pick someone who's not running in a
- 19:41Speaker 8: current race because I don't like to get involved in
- 19:42Speaker 8: the people's races. But Larry Row is not running for reelection.
- 19:45Speaker 8: He's retiring from the House. He's a Democrat here in
- 19:47Speaker 8: Kannall County. He is a super nice man like Politically,
- 19:51Speaker 8: I disagree with him on some things fundamentally, but I've
- 19:54Speaker 8: always told people that it's fine to disagree with someone
- 19:57Speaker 8: looks like Larry and politics, but if you don't like
- 19:59Speaker 8: Larry Rowe as a person, then you're the problem, not
- 20:01Speaker 8: Larry Row. I mean, he is a genuinely good human being.
- 20:04Speaker 8: So for me, this is not Democrat Republican. This is
- 20:08Speaker 8: someone like Mike Pushkin, who is the political activist class
- 20:11Speaker 8: and his candidate, who obviously thinks the same way he does,
- 20:14Speaker 8: who are just hyper negative. And I don't think it's
- 20:18Speaker 8: not I think, I know people don't like this kind
- 20:21Speaker 8: of campaigning. The national level is a dumpster fire. We
- 20:25Speaker 8: see it every day. I mean it's a dumpster fire. Locally,
- 20:29Speaker 8: I think people want their local politicians because we see
- 20:32Speaker 8: each other. I mean I see people in the grocery store,
- 20:35Speaker 8: you know, I see people on a walk around downtown
- 20:37Speaker 8: or if I go out in the county somewhere, so
- 20:39Speaker 8: we're supposed to know one another, and I don't. Local
- 20:43Speaker 8: voters don't want their local politicians to act like this
- 20:45Speaker 8: and say these crazy things. This is just over the
- 20:48Speaker 8: top stuff, and so I would have never responded to
- 20:52Speaker 8: this or talked about my opponent until they did this first.
- 20:55Speaker 8: And you know, it's just so goofy too, Dave, because
- 20:58Speaker 8: when you say things like my it's said that I've
- 21:00Speaker 8: aligned myselves with enemies of democracy. I mean that's a
- 21:03Speaker 8: direct quote from the press release, enemies of Democracy. I mean,
- 21:07Speaker 8: my first house was a trailer of my grandparents' property.
- 21:10Speaker 8: You know, I grew up in a family that was
- 21:12Speaker 8: blue collar. My wife is an awesome person who's a
- 21:16Speaker 8: former longtime assistant prosecutor now a judge who's been elected
- 21:19Speaker 8: twice in Kennall County. I've got family and kids here,
- 21:22Speaker 8: my wife and I volunteery community, whre's regular people. And
- 21:24Speaker 8: I've got someone who's trying to win a local house
- 21:27Speaker 8: race who issues a press release and my opponent calls
- 21:29Speaker 8: me an enemy of democracy. I mean, it's just ridiculous.
- 21:32Speaker 8: So she wants to criticize policy, that's fine, fair game,
- 21:35Speaker 8: but this hyper negative, like personal stuff and saying that
- 21:38Speaker 8: I'm aligned like I'm Kremlin adjacent. Now I guess like
- 21:40Speaker 8: I'm aligned somehow with with the Kremlin. It's just so goofy.
- 21:45Speaker 3: What about the exact allegations though? About this case? What
- 21:48Speaker 3: do you want to say about taking this case?
- 21:50Speaker 8: Well, so the case is to me, it's important from
- 21:52Speaker 8: the standpoint of and to me, it's not a political case.
- 21:54Speaker 8: Some people will say that is. But I've grown increasingly
- 21:57Speaker 8: frustrated as I've seen I've got real concerns about freedom
- 22:00Speaker 8: of speech. Is using this country guys like you to
- 22:03Speaker 8: have on any guests that you want. I mean, you
- 22:04Speaker 8: have guests on your day if you don't agree with
- 22:06Speaker 8: every day, I mean, yeah, maybe not today right not
- 22:10Speaker 8: right now. But you know, I remember, you know, one
- 22:12Speaker 8: high profile example, you had Don Blankenship on here more
- 22:15Speaker 8: than once, I believe before time. Yeah, and you people
- 22:17Speaker 8: like will say that your quote unquote platform for yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 8: his views, and like, there's probably some things he says
- 22:22Speaker 8: you may agree with. There's a lot of stuff he
- 22:23Speaker 8: says you don't. But people should have a right to
- 22:27Speaker 8: ask questions, which is what you do, and to have
- 22:30Speaker 8: this stuff put out there for public consumption. Then the
- 22:32Speaker 8: public gets to decide. I don't want the political class
- 22:34Speaker 8: deciding who gets to say what and who gets to
- 22:36Speaker 8: be heard. I want everyone to have as much information
- 22:38Speaker 8: as possible. So the Timpoole case is an example where
- 22:41Speaker 8: and this is a thing too. Tim Poole is also
- 22:43Speaker 8: not a right wing extremist. That's a goofy thing.
- 22:45Speaker 3: To say this.
- 22:47Speaker 8: He's really a guy who his views crossed the spectrum
- 22:50Speaker 8: and he's literally He voted for Obama in two thousand
- 22:52Speaker 8: and eight. He supported Bernie Sanders in twenty sixteen. He
- 22:55Speaker 8: supports Trump now primarily over these freedom of speech issues.
- 22:58Speaker 8: Because everyone Everyone may not know him, but he's got
- 23:01Speaker 8: millions of subscribers on YouTube. He's a very successful internet personality.
- 23:05Speaker 8: And what he does, Dave, is he does what you do.
- 23:08Speaker 8: He interviews a wide range of people, some on the
- 23:11Speaker 8: far left, some on the far right, some who are
- 23:13Speaker 8: more in the middle. And you know, he's not endorsing
- 23:16Speaker 8: people's views when he has him on his show, and
- 23:18Speaker 8: he's certainly not right wing. I mean, he's got a
- 23:20Speaker 8: lot of views that are very far left. He's a
- 23:22Speaker 8: hard guy to pigeonhole.
- 23:24Speaker 3: So which most people are, by the way people are
- 23:27Speaker 3: most normal people, Yes.
- 23:28Speaker 8: Most people are nu onced, most people are complicated, and
- 23:31Speaker 8: most people have views that are crossover party like there
- 23:33Speaker 8: are Democrats who have some Republican beliefs and vice versa,
- 23:36Speaker 8: and that's the way it's supposed to be. That's how
- 23:39Speaker 8: most normal people are. So in the Pool case, the
- 23:41Speaker 8: reason why I took it on was because, and I
- 23:44Speaker 8: see this a lot, and it's really frustrating to me.
- 23:46Speaker 8: Where he had one of his shows on YouTube. He
- 23:49Speaker 8: was interviewing a guest and the guest is someone who
- 23:52Speaker 8: I don't know, but I looked her up afterwards. I'm
- 23:54Speaker 8: not a huge fan of a lot of the things
- 23:55Speaker 8: she said, but his guest was saying something and while
- 23:59Speaker 8: Tim Poole was talking, and it's one of those things day.
- 24:00Speaker 8: I think his show that that night was two or
- 24:02Speaker 8: three hours long, so there was tons of discussion, and
- 24:06Speaker 8: the Harris campaign took like a fifteen or thirty second
- 24:09Speaker 8: clip where they cut everything out, like the hour before
- 24:12Speaker 8: that and the hour or two after that clip, and
- 24:14Speaker 8: they took it out of context and made it look
- 24:16Speaker 8: like Tim Pole was endorsing something that he actually was against.
- 24:19Speaker 8: Like there was one discussion during that little small clip
- 24:22Speaker 8: where his guest said something about whether people who have
- 24:25Speaker 8: committed treason or something like that should face the death penalty,
- 24:29Speaker 8: and right after then the clip cuts off. The clip
- 24:31Speaker 8: ends right there, so it looks like Tim Pole is
- 24:33Speaker 8: somehow involved in that discussion and it agrees with that.
- 24:35Speaker 8: Tim Pole says right afterwards that he's against that. I mean,
- 24:38Speaker 8: he's been on a record many times saying he's against
- 24:40Speaker 8: a death ponty for even the most egregious crimes. I mean,
- 24:43Speaker 8: while he thinks murderer should go to prison, he doesn't
- 24:45Speaker 8: believe in the death penalty at all for anyone. It's
- 24:47Speaker 8: just something he's fundamentally opposed to. So the Harris campaign
- 24:50Speaker 8: took something that he is actually against, made it look
- 24:53Speaker 8: like he endorsed it, took his guest comments out of
- 24:56Speaker 8: context to put them on Tim, and that's something I
- 24:59Speaker 8: might a fan of. Like again, I think that it's
- 25:03Speaker 8: fair to criticize people for what they actually say or believe.
- 25:06Speaker 8: But the clip of Tim Poole is taking completely out
- 25:08Speaker 8: of context, and I think he's got a legitimate claim.
- 25:10Speaker 8: So I agreed to take it on. And I've got
- 25:12Speaker 8: concerns about like your ability personally and anyone else who
- 25:15Speaker 8: does this to be able to have people on their
- 25:17Speaker 8: show and have free, wide ranging discussions to your listeners,
- 25:20Speaker 8: actually know what people think and believe.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Talking to Dell to get to jb Akers And look,
- 25:25Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and say I was not familiar
- 25:27Speaker 3: with Tempoole. I'm not a big podcast kind of guy.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Did a little research of this on my own either.
- 25:32Speaker 3: But just like with every person, every normal people think,
- 25:34Speaker 3: there are things you agree with and things that you
- 25:36Speaker 3: certainly don't agree with. But did you have any any
- 25:39Speaker 3: pause at all in taking this case and wondering if
- 25:43Speaker 3: this is the right thing to do for your other
- 25:45Speaker 3: job being in the House of Elegacy.
- 25:47Speaker 8: Well, I mean I figured I would probably they would
- 25:50Speaker 8: probably try to criticize me over this, But this is
- 25:52Speaker 8: the thing too, I didn't promote this case. When I
- 25:53Speaker 8: followed it, I sat back and I said, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 8: let's see what they do with this and see if
- 25:57Speaker 8: they come after me with it. And it's a public filing,
- 25:59Speaker 8: so I know where could see it. It's kind of
- 26:01Speaker 8: a you know, quote unquote high profile case for who's involved.
- 26:04Speaker 8: But I also didn't promote it because I wanted to
- 26:07Speaker 8: let them be the first ones to say something negative.
- 26:10Speaker 8: I didn't want to be that person. I don't ever
- 26:12Speaker 8: want to do that.
- 26:12Speaker 10: Now.
- 26:13Speaker 8: I'm going to respond if you come after me, I'm
- 26:15Speaker 8: not going to take it. But they did come after me,
- 26:18Speaker 8: and I think in a very stupid way. And let
- 26:19Speaker 8: me say this, I have never said a negative word
- 26:21Speaker 8: about Mike Christian personally. I've never got involved in his campaigns.
- 26:25Speaker 8: I don't post about him. I've never messed with that
- 26:28Speaker 8: guy publicly. He is an example why one of the
- 26:31Speaker 8: prime examples now of why the Democrat Party in the
- 26:34Speaker 8: state is struggling so badly. There are lots of good, regular,
- 26:37Speaker 8: decent Democrat voters in West Virginia. The political class at
- 26:41Speaker 8: the top is the problem, and these press releases like
- 26:45Speaker 8: this that he issued are part of the problem because
- 26:48Speaker 8: voters don't like this. They don't like this ridiculous rhetoric
- 26:51Speaker 8: about anybody. So, you know, Mike's been the House of
- 26:54Speaker 8: Delegates for ten years. What's happened to the Democrat Party
- 26:57Speaker 8: in the past ten years. It's fallen off a cliff
- 26:59Speaker 8: And I am willing to bet you. I'm willing to
- 27:02Speaker 8: bet you that in November you're going to have and
- 27:06Speaker 8: I'm not saying this to be you know, political, it's
- 27:08Speaker 8: just what I'm looking at. I'm trying to figure out
- 27:10Speaker 8: the numbers. There's a very good chance you're going to
- 27:12Speaker 8: have even less Democrats in the House of Delegates in
- 27:14Speaker 8: November that you do now, which is kind of hard
- 27:16Speaker 8: to believe. There's only eleven now, and several of the
- 27:17Speaker 8: people are good people, Dave. I mean, I saw them
- 27:20Speaker 8: yesterday at the Capitol and went over and shook their hands,
- 27:22Speaker 8: told them, hello, I talked to them. You know, we
- 27:25Speaker 8: disagree on issues, but they're nice people. But there's probably
- 27:28Speaker 8: gonna be less of them. And if there are less
- 27:30Speaker 8: to them in November because of the stuff that people
- 27:33Speaker 8: like Mike does as a state party share he's accountable
- 27:35Speaker 8: for that. And frankly, I think if they lose members
- 27:39Speaker 8: after this election, he should step aside and let someone
- 27:42Speaker 8: who's more representative of the normal, everyday average Democrat let
- 27:45Speaker 8: in the state speak for that party, because he doesn't
- 27:47Speaker 8: speak for them. This is a terrible mistake he made.
- 27:49Speaker 8: I now get to come on the radio and talk
- 27:52Speaker 8: to you. You know, listeners and voters are listening to
- 27:54Speaker 8: me today and the otherwise wouldn't. And he's also opened
- 27:57Speaker 8: up his candidate he chose to run against me for
- 27:59Speaker 8: attack because she has personally gone after me, which there's
- 28:02Speaker 8: a written article on this in the Westernier Record as well,
- 28:04Speaker 8: where I pointed out one thing she said was in
- 28:07Speaker 8: her press release that she signed off on was I'll
- 28:10Speaker 8: do anything to make a buck. It was one of
- 28:12Speaker 8: the things she said. This is a woman I've known
- 28:14Speaker 8: for over twenty years. She probably saw my kids get
- 28:16Speaker 8: baptized in church because she and her wife used to
- 28:18Speaker 8: go to the same church we go to, or we
- 28:19Speaker 8: went to the church they go to. So these are
- 28:22Speaker 8: people I know, and she says I'll do anything to
- 28:23Speaker 8: make a buck. Dave, I used to work for a
- 28:25Speaker 8: corporate firm the first five years of practice law. I
- 28:27Speaker 8: switched him on office primarily because I was on the
- 28:29Speaker 8: road so much. I want to be around my wife
- 28:31Speaker 8: and kids as much as possible, so I did the
- 28:33Speaker 8: exact opposite to be a better husband and father. I
- 28:37Speaker 8: switched from a job where I probaly would have made
- 28:38Speaker 8: more money in the long run to be around my
- 28:40Speaker 8: family more. So, I did the opposite of trying to
- 28:42Speaker 8: make a buck. Okay, I want to make money for
- 28:44Speaker 8: my family, but I switched to a job where I
- 28:46Speaker 8: probably will make less money long term, or I may
- 28:49Speaker 8: to be with my family. I do lots of free
- 28:51Speaker 8: work for people. I volunteer in a community. I'm not
- 28:54Speaker 8: saying I'm a saint, but for this woman who's known
- 28:57Speaker 8: me for this long to sign up for this press release,
- 28:58Speaker 8: and I'm a horrible human being, basically enemy democracy. Local
- 29:03Speaker 8: voters don't want to hear this stuff, Dave.
- 29:05Speaker 3: They just don't talk about delicate JB. Acres. Are you
- 29:08Speaker 3: okay with taking some texts because I've got some text here? Sure,
- 29:11Speaker 3: one text's for delicate Acres. Why does the legislature continually
- 29:14Speaker 3: disregard no normal processes, suspending constitutionalists rules and passing bills
- 29:19Speaker 3: without due consideration? Also, how many jobs has Acred created
- 29:23Speaker 3: suing employers.
- 29:24Speaker 8: So that's a I think I was here once before
- 29:27Speaker 8: and you got a question from someone.
- 29:28Speaker 3: About what I do for a living, probably the same person.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Probably it was it was after it like that.
- 29:32Speaker 8: We just finished, you got the text on who this
- 29:35Speaker 8: person is who was criticizing me for being a lawyer.
- 29:39Speaker 8: And again, I worked for a corporate firm for five years. Uh,
- 29:42Speaker 8: and I left it because I was on the road
- 29:44Speaker 8: so much. And when you're a solo practitioner like I am,
- 29:46Speaker 8: you're primarily going to be involved in work on the
- 29:49Speaker 8: plaintiff side. And this person who texted you doesn't know
- 29:53Speaker 8: what I really do. And I represent a lot of
- 29:56Speaker 8: small businesses for example, like one of my clients I
- 29:58Speaker 8: recently fought a case for was for a Western me
- 30:00Speaker 8: a small business who has gotten hosed by a large
- 30:03Speaker 8: out of state business. So I do represent individuals. I
- 30:06Speaker 8: represent small businesses. Most people need help. Bad things do
- 30:10Speaker 8: happen to regular people sometimes. But I'm also like I've
- 30:15Speaker 8: gotten the endorsement Dave of the Business Industry Council, the
- 30:18Speaker 8: Manufacturers Association, the Western and Chamber of Commerce because I'm
- 30:21Speaker 8: a reasonable person on these issues. I don't go around
- 30:23Speaker 8: saying one side is good and one side's bad. Both
- 30:25Speaker 8: sides have a point to make. People deserve to have
- 30:28Speaker 8: their day in court, and they have a dispute, and
- 30:29Speaker 8: that's a thing too. When my opponent, Mike said this
- 30:32Speaker 8: press release that I'm align myself with enemies of democracy,
- 30:35Speaker 8: I'm doing air quotes on the radio. You know, I
- 30:37Speaker 8: filed a case in federal court Dave where a federal
- 30:40Speaker 8: judge and a federal jury are going to decide whether
- 30:42Speaker 8: I'm right or I'm wrong, or whether my client's right
- 30:44Speaker 8: or wrong. That's part of the normal democratic process or
- 30:47Speaker 8: democratic process, is We're using an institution in this country
- 30:51Speaker 8: to resolve a dispute peacefully. And I'm not out there
- 30:55Speaker 8: issue and press releases about it. I'm just letting a
- 30:57Speaker 8: court decide what my client's fad is, which is the
- 30:59Speaker 8: way it's supposed to work in a peaceful civil society. So,
- 31:02Speaker 8: whoever your texture was, I'm proud of what I do.
- 31:04Speaker 8: I represent a lot of good everyday West Virginia's These
- 31:06Speaker 8: are the same people who vote in our elections. These
- 31:08Speaker 8: are my clients. So whoever the texture was, my clients
- 31:12Speaker 8: are the voters and vice versa, and I'm proud to
- 31:14Speaker 8: represent them positive Texas.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Positive campaigners usually have something to hide. Don't have to
- 31:19Speaker 3: say a negative word about or just defend the fact
- 31:21Speaker 3: that you're defending the holy awful person. You're part of
- 31:24Speaker 3: the political class as a texture.
- 31:25Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I mean, I guess I'm officially a politician's
- 31:28Speaker 8: and someone office.
- 31:29Speaker 3: All you guys, not you particularly, always say I'm not
- 31:32Speaker 3: a politician, But once you sign your name on the
- 31:34Speaker 3: dotted line, you are a politician as soon as you're
- 31:36Speaker 3: run yours, So yeah, exactly.
- 31:37Speaker 8: I mean, listen, I've run twice and the last time
- 31:39Speaker 8: I ran, people came in with a microscope looking up
- 31:42Speaker 8: stuff on me and they found nothing because there's nothing
- 31:44Speaker 8: nothing to find. I mean, I mean, what am I
- 31:46Speaker 8: supposed to do? Da if someone criticized them me for
- 31:47Speaker 8: being a positive campaigner and they say I've got something
- 31:50Speaker 8: to hide? I mean, I mean that is I mean again,
- 31:52Speaker 8: no thing that says.
- 31:53Speaker 3: If I could interrupt you, I think that statement right there,
- 31:55Speaker 3: this is my opinion, not yours. I'm not speaking for you.
- 31:57Speaker 3: That says where we are right now as a society.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Yeah that, if you are a positive campaigner, it means
- 32:03Speaker 3: you have That's the most asinine bs I've ever heard
- 32:06Speaker 3: in my entire life. Sorry, texture trying to be respectful,
- 32:08Speaker 3: but that's just that's a little crap. I'm sorry.
- 32:10Speaker 8: Yeah, I invite that. Listen again. My wife and I
- 32:12Speaker 8: are regular members of this community. We've done everything we
- 32:14Speaker 8: can to be helpful to the people who live here.
- 32:16Speaker 8: We know lots of people. We coach our kids teams
- 32:18Speaker 8: when they're grown up. You know, my wife's team mom
- 32:21Speaker 8: for the kids' teams. I mean, we do everything we
- 32:22Speaker 8: can to be part of the community. And if you
- 32:24Speaker 8: think you can find something negative on me, I'm hiding
- 32:26Speaker 8: and then you fire away because there is nothing.
- 32:28Speaker 3: I mean.
- 32:28Speaker 8: You might disagree with my policies and my opinions on issues,
- 32:30Speaker 8: but you know, do you prefer that ID be a
- 32:32Speaker 8: negative campaigner and that proves I have I don't have something?
- 32:35Speaker 8: I mean, that's just goofy. I mean, I'm a positive
- 32:37Speaker 8: person and part of that, Dave, is my upbringing. My
- 32:39Speaker 8: parents were super hard workers. We had very little when
- 32:42Speaker 8: I was grown up, and I saw that they were
- 32:44Speaker 8: able to give me a better life thro your hard work,
- 32:46Speaker 8: and it's given me an optimism in life. So I'm
- 32:48Speaker 8: just an optimistic, compositive person by nature, and I would
- 32:51Speaker 8: prefer to keep our politics that way as much as
- 32:53Speaker 8: we can.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Somebody I had actually had a couple of texts here,
- 32:55Speaker 3: and I'll let you go because Brad's calling right now.
- 32:58Speaker 3: I think we had a couple of textus would be
- 33:00Speaker 3: people said, what about Trump and the way Trump campaigns?
- 33:03Speaker 3: You align yourself with that.
- 33:05Speaker 8: I mean, listen to a lot of these policies. I
- 33:08Speaker 8: like economic stuff, I like a lot of that. But
- 33:10Speaker 8: when he just unsolicited attacks people, No, Dave, I'm not
- 33:13Speaker 8: a huge fan of that. Now, if he fights back
- 33:15Speaker 8: against an attack, then you know, you can do that
- 33:17Speaker 8: in ways that I think sometimes are appropriate. But if
- 33:19Speaker 8: he just for no reason appears to like go out
- 33:22Speaker 8: and attack somebody, and you know, if there's the people
- 33:25Speaker 8: on the maybe his hardcore base, who don't want to
- 33:27Speaker 8: criticize him, hitt all, that's fine.
- 33:30Speaker 3: I get it.
- 33:30Speaker 8: But if he just has an unsolicit attack, which he
- 33:32Speaker 8: does do sometimes, no, I don't like that. And listen,
- 33:35Speaker 8: look at my social media and see what I do.
- 33:37Speaker 8: I don't do that to people, Okay, I don't. I
- 33:39Speaker 8: put up positive stuff and try to try to solve
- 33:41Speaker 8: issues and challenges in cooperation with people. That's that's the
- 33:44Speaker 8: way I do things.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Akers. I appreciate you being here.

- 36:49Speaker 3: bring in now Metro News Brad McIlhenny, who has never
- 36:53Speaker 3: been accused of using language it's bad for young people.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 36:58Speaker 14: I've learned some things from young people.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Did you hear that that last interview with Delegate Acres?
- 37:04Speaker 3: Were you listening?
- 37:04Speaker 14: Brand Oh, I'm afraid to say I missed it, but
- 37:08Speaker 14: I bet it was valuable and I can go back
- 37:10Speaker 14: on the podcast and learn a few things from Delegate Acres.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, that's one that you probably definitely want to
- 37:16Speaker 3: go back and listen to. All right, let's talk about
- 37:18Speaker 3: the special session yesterday. My theory is is that they
- 37:21Speaker 3: didn't park in their normal legislative parking spots. They just
- 37:25Speaker 3: fed the meter and all their meters were running out,
- 37:27Speaker 3: and they wanted to get out of the capital as
- 37:29Speaker 3: quickly as possible.
- 37:29Speaker 14: Your thought, Oh, that is smart.
- 37:32Speaker 12: Yeah, so.
- 37:37Speaker 14: It seems like the most inefficient way of going about
- 37:41Speaker 14: this possible. So for some reason, lawmakers like to have
- 37:49Speaker 14: a special session during regularly scheduled inter meetings because you
- 37:54Speaker 14: know they're already going to be there. You avoid the
- 37:56Speaker 14: criticism of being a thirty five thousand dollars a day cost,
- 38:01Speaker 14: particularly if you don't necessarily know the outcome or where
- 38:04Speaker 14: you're going on the legislation within a special session. But
- 38:09Speaker 14: Governor Justice split the uprights. There was a special session
- 38:13Speaker 14: in Parkersburg last month about the time he called this one.
- 38:17Speaker 14: There's a there's a there's a sorry, there were inter meetings,
- 38:20Speaker 14: there's there's a set of inter meetings coming up just
- 38:24Speaker 14: this coming weekend. But he decided that he would pop
- 38:28Speaker 14: this right in on a Monday, the last day of September,
- 38:32Speaker 14: and with an unsettled matter at the centerpiece is this
- 38:37Speaker 14: five percent tax cut lawmakers still although it's been discussed
- 38:42Speaker 14: since the beginning of July, lawmakers still unsettled them whether
- 38:47Speaker 14: it's wise or possible given state finances. And so lawmakers
- 38:53Speaker 14: were in for a few hours and then maybe it
- 38:58Speaker 14: met you for lunch or did.
- 39:00Speaker 3: I don't know what they did, but we'll talking to
- 39:02Speaker 3: Brad talking to jb Acres off the air. I just
- 39:05Speaker 3: asked him as he came up for the interview about
- 39:07Speaker 3: the session and he said it was pretty much what
- 39:09Speaker 3: he expected because and others delegates and other alleged letters
- 39:12Speaker 3: have said this too, because he said, we didn't even
- 39:14Speaker 3: get any information on it until the very last minute.
- 39:17Speaker 3: That was his words.
- 39:18Speaker 4: What a way to run a railroad.
- 39:20Speaker 14: Yeah, so it's got twenty some bills overall to consider,
- 39:26Speaker 14: and they're spending the public's dollars even on the supplemental appropriations.
- 39:30Speaker 14: So to me, spending any public dollars is a significant responsibility.
- 39:37Speaker 14: But they got a menu essentially Saturday evening late, and
- 39:41Speaker 14: then we're expected to be around beginning eleven am Monday
- 39:45Speaker 14: making decisions, and they didn't make final decisions on six
- 39:50Speaker 14: supplemental appropriations, and then you know, hit pies and pints
- 39:56Speaker 14: or whatever went home. I'm not sure what they did.
- 39:59Speaker 3: The quote of the day, Brad, came from Senator Mike Woffle,
- 40:01Speaker 3: who Hoppy had on talk line yesterday, who said, I
- 40:04Speaker 3: have no clue why we are here. That was Senator
- 40:07Speaker 3: Wolfele on Hoppy yesterday.
- 40:09Speaker 14: Uh, you know, I think that may be bipartisan sentiment possibly,
- 40:14Speaker 14: And Hoppy was in kind of a mood yesterday too. Honestly,
- 40:18Speaker 14: I heard.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Bits and pieces of the show I like my like
- 40:21Speaker 3: what you said about mind of you. I need to
- 40:22Speaker 3: go back and listen to the whole thing, because I
- 40:24Speaker 3: was working and I was only hearing bits and pieces.
- 40:26Speaker 3: But hoppy wasn't a bit of a mood yesterday, as.
- 40:29Speaker 14: You said, Well, I mean, it's just it's so unsettled,
- 40:32Speaker 14: and the governor wants lawmakers to make a significant decision,
- 40:37Speaker 14: several of them, but it feels like it's half baked
- 40:42Speaker 14: at most. So happy was feeling it yesterday. He had
- 40:47Speaker 14: three segments about the special session. He had Senator Mike
- 40:52Speaker 14: Oliverio or Republican from Montagueo County, Senator Mike Waffle, two
- 40:58Speaker 14: of the many mics in the Senate. Yeah, wal Full,
- 41:01Speaker 14: a Democrat from Cavill County, and then me I was
- 41:04Speaker 14: I was third, And by the time I came up,
- 41:06Speaker 14: we had already determined that expectations should be very low
- 41:10Speaker 14: about the day of the special session what was going
- 41:14Speaker 14: to be accomplished.
- 41:14Speaker 3: So actually lasted longer than the special session, Dad, I.
- 41:18Speaker 14: Think, yes, Well, you know, even when you're not getting
- 41:24Speaker 14: much done, you still got to gabble in and there's
- 41:26Speaker 14: two chambers to deal with. The House. Actually again in
- 41:30Speaker 14: the area of responsibility. They broke into committees. The Education
- 41:35Speaker 14: Committee met and the Finance Committee met. It wasn't exciting,
- 41:38Speaker 14: so I'm not going to reveal the listeners with what happened.
- 41:40Speaker 14: But if you're treating these things in a responsible manner,
- 41:45Speaker 14: that's that's.
- 41:46Speaker 2: What you do.
- 41:46Speaker 14: So it did drag out for a little bit, but
- 41:51Speaker 14: in the end not much. Really decided six supplemental appropriations
- 41:55Speaker 14: again and then otherwise coming back Sunday to deal with
- 42:00Speaker 14: the rest. But if there's any cliffhanger to this, really,
- 42:04Speaker 14: I don't know if, particularly the centerpiece of the whole thing,
- 42:08Speaker 14: the governor's proposed five percent additional income tax cut. I
- 42:13Speaker 14: don't know if that just fizzles at this point, or
- 42:15Speaker 14: if somebody comes through with a creative idea, a breakthrough
- 42:19Speaker 14: that would make everybody feel like, all right, yeah, we
- 42:21Speaker 14: can afford this. It's about one hundred and ten million dollars.
- 42:25Speaker 14: What even fiscal conservatives like Senate Finance Chairman Eric tar
- 42:30Speaker 14: have wanted is to know that West Virginia is truly
- 42:34Speaker 14: going to be able to balance the budget as it's
- 42:36Speaker 14: constitutionally required to do. But there is no such guarantee
- 42:41Speaker 14: at the moment. It's just just a feel, just a
- 42:43Speaker 14: gut feeling. So if somebody comes up with something solid
- 42:47Speaker 14: by Sunday, then you know, maybe there will be a
- 42:49Speaker 14: break breakthrough. But otherwise, you know, looking at your Las
- 42:52Speaker 14: Vegas betting boards very well, could fizzle.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Give me thirty seconds for excitment. That's that's fine, Give
- 42:58Speaker 3: me thirty seconds on The governor has a presser today,
- 43:00Speaker 3: does he not?
- 43:02Speaker 14: He does at twelve thirty, So a couple of things.
- 43:05Speaker 14: There will be a monthly revenue report today, how we
- 43:10Speaker 14: did in September. If it's bad, that will be the
- 43:13Speaker 14: third month of a row three mixed trend. And I
- 43:15Speaker 14: would greatly reduce the odds of getting that tax cut through.
- 43:19Speaker 14: But I think that the main topic of the Governor's
- 43:23Speaker 14: briefing will likely be the possibility of this tax cut
- 43:28Speaker 14: going through.
- 43:28Speaker 3: All right, I know you'll be watching, Brad. I appreciate
- 43:30Speaker 3: you being here, man, Thanks a lot.
- 43:32Speaker 14: Hey thinks safe Texas.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Can we get jb Aker to defend the statement of
- 43:35Speaker 3: Tim Pole's editor Cassandra McDonald that Israel is a terrorist state,
- 43:39Speaker 3: or her statement that it would be nice if Lebanon
- 43:42Speaker 3: had the right to assassinate net and Yahoo Texas. I
- 43:45Speaker 3: bet JB supports Trump. He attacks anyone, veterans, disabled, races
- 43:49Speaker 3: every day, and you support this Texas the process joy
- 43:55Speaker 3: and love. But if you're a positive person, you're bad.
- 43:57Speaker 3: And then they send me an emoji of someone scratching
- 43:59Speaker 3: their head. Texas, let's not forget. Trump is outright lying
- 44:02Speaker 3: about the lack of emergency response in western North Carolina.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Trump is lying about Democrats not helping Republican areas in
- 44:08Speaker 3: North Carolina. Trump was surprised a hurricane that strong struck
- 44:12Speaker 3: during peak hurricane season, and Trump supporters get upset when
- 44:14Speaker 3: they're called stupid. Let me just say something about that. Okay,

- 44:37Speaker 3: could tell it was fake. A couple of people posted.
- 44:40Speaker 3: I simply comment and said, this photo is fake. And

- 47:43Speaker 3: learned we were all shocked learn of the death of
- 47:45Speaker 3: Pete Rose. I mean, he was eighty three, I think,
- 47:47Speaker 3: but just one of the guys that you can't ever
- 47:49Speaker 3: imagine leaving us. He just seems so much, you know,
- 47:52Speaker 3: larger than life. He did pass it his home in Vegas,
- 47:55Speaker 3: found dead by a family member. His death revealed to
- 47:58Speaker 3: believe to be of natural cast of two guys, maybe
- 48:01Speaker 3: maybe the biggest Reds fan I know next to the
- 48:03Speaker 3: guy we call Wolfie Brian Bradley in this building. Jeff
- 48:06Speaker 3: jenkins Dale, Cooper, Jeff and Coop. Good morning if you
- 48:09Speaker 3: are Red fans of a certain age. Jeff being slightly
- 48:12Speaker 3: older than Cooper myself and I'm older than Coop. Uh
- 48:15Speaker 3: Pee Rose. Jeff just seemed like one of those guys
- 48:17Speaker 3: that would live forever.
- 48:18Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean sure, I mean he was he you know,
- 48:22Speaker 15: as I was growing up, he was, you know, the
- 48:24Speaker 15: big Red machine. I mean and now you know you
- 48:27Speaker 15: had Pete, you had Joe Morgan, you had Johnny Bench,
- 48:29Speaker 15: you had Tony Perez, I mean great stars, but uh,
- 48:34Speaker 15: Pete was Pete was kind of the he was kind
- 48:38Speaker 15: of the igniter, yeah, right, leadoff set the attitude. When
- 48:43Speaker 15: he walked, he ran the first base. He did not
- 48:46Speaker 15: walk to first base.
- 48:47Speaker 3: Which angered a lot of the old times.
- 48:48Speaker 15: Oh yeah, and when when when he when he caught
- 48:51Speaker 15: a ball, uh, he would spike the ball into the
- 48:54Speaker 15: into the turf.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Games.
- 48:57Speaker 15: Yeah, his friend who had had dinner with the night
- 48:59Speaker 15: before Alls. Yeah, yeah, in the seventy All Star Game. Yeah,
- 49:03Speaker 15: so yeah, he was. I was thinking about this. You know,
- 49:07Speaker 15: he was a player that you talk about this, you
- 49:10Speaker 15: kind of threw this around, but he was. He was
- 49:12Speaker 15: a player that got every bit of his talent. I
- 49:15Speaker 15: mean he got out of it, every bit, every bit
- 49:18Speaker 15: of it because you would look at him and you
- 49:20Speaker 15: was now he was stoutly built, right, but he got
- 49:23Speaker 15: every bit out of his talent.
- 49:24Speaker 3: What's your favorite Pete Rose memory?
- 49:26Speaker 16: But the interesting thing with me as becoming a Reds fan,
- 49:29Speaker 16: as being I was born in seventy four, so I
- 49:32Speaker 16: came into baseball awareness. Really it was when Pete Rose
- 49:35Speaker 16: was traded to the Phillies. What was that seventy eight?
- 49:37Speaker 16: I think free agency, yeah, or I mean free agency.
- 49:39Speaker 16: He went to the Phillies in seventy eight, and I
- 49:41Speaker 16: remember watching like I knew about Pete Rose and the
- 49:45Speaker 16: Reds a little bit, as like a four or five
- 49:47Speaker 16: year like I have just a little bit of a memory.
- 49:49Speaker 16: But my first solid memory was a little black and
- 49:53Speaker 16: white TV in my mom and dad's bedroom watching there
- 49:56Speaker 16: was like a CBS, ABC Game of the Week, whatever,
- 49:58Speaker 16: it was. It was like a primetime game on it
- 50:00Speaker 16: in the evening. If I remember correctly, This could be wrong,
- 50:02Speaker 16: but anyway, I think it was Pete Rose's first game
- 50:05Speaker 16: or first series, opening up the season with the Phillies,
- 50:08Speaker 16: and I remember sitting and watching it and my dad's
- 50:10Speaker 16: sort of like low key grumbling about with the Phillies now,
- 50:13Speaker 16: you know, all this type. I sort of watched it
- 50:15Speaker 16: and I remember that. But it was interesting for me
- 50:17Speaker 16: because Pete Rose was more of an entry into baseball.
- 50:20Speaker 16: So he's the reason and sort of the fandom and
- 50:23Speaker 16: the fanfare around him was sort of my entry into baseball.
- 50:27Speaker 16: But there was a time in like the early eighties
- 50:29Speaker 16: that my favorite Reds player, Like if you would have
- 50:31Speaker 16: pulled me before like Larkin and Davis and those guys
- 50:34Speaker 16: came around, I would have been like Herm Whittingham, you know,
- 50:36Speaker 16: like it wouldn't have necessarily been Pete Rose at that
- 50:38Speaker 16: point in time because I was a little young. He
- 50:40Speaker 16: was my entry into it, but it wasn't until later
- 50:42Speaker 16: that I kind of backfilled my fandom.
- 50:44Speaker 15: Yeah, he wasn't my favorite player, obviously, I liked him.
- 50:47Speaker 15: I liked it the Reds one, but like Johnny Bench.
- 50:49Speaker 15: I think if you were to, you know, Johnny probably
- 50:52Speaker 15: say that probably my favorite player.
- 50:55Speaker 3: Guys. I gotta cut it short. I appreciate you being here,
- 50:57Speaker 3: but I did want to throw this in there. Jeff,
- 50:59Speaker 3: congratulations on being inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Tonight A Huntings and two of our folks are going in,
- 51:04Speaker 3: you and Woody Woods. I'll have Woody on the show tomorrow.
- 51:07Speaker 3: I will say this. It is an honor for our
- 51:10Speaker 3: company as well. Jeff, you are the consummate professional, and
- 51:13Speaker 3: it's a pleasure walking in this building every day, knowing
- 51:16Speaker 3: and seeing your vehicle in a parking lot when I
- 51:17Speaker 3: come in, because it never leaves. That's one of the
- 51:19Speaker 3: reasons why. But Jeff, congratulations, great honor. Will see tonight
- 51:22Speaker 3: and we've got a parking boot on it. That's what
- 51:25Speaker 3: it is, all right, guys. I appreciate you both being here.

- 51:50Speaker 3: anyone was on the fence about that photo being fake
- 51:53Speaker 3: or not, all they had to do is ask themselves
- 51:54Speaker 3: the question why would Trump be doing this? If they
- 51:57Speaker 3: can come up with a halfway decent answer, then find
- 52:00Speaker 3: they win. The answer to that will be as someone
- 52:02Speaker 3: told me last night, who knew it was a fake photo?
- 52:05Speaker 3: Who said to me, yes, but it's the symbolism behind it.
- 52:08Speaker 3: It's the symbolism behind it, all right. We gotta go.
