- 0:26Speaker 2: I said about these movies.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Oh, you should probably give these episodes a listen to.
- 0:32Speaker 1: We hope you enjoy this month on Girls Gone Hamewark.

- 0:37Speaker 1: about these movies and these reviews. Enjoy the episode. Hey, Patreon,
- 0:58Speaker 1: welcome to a bonus episode of Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I'm Megan, I'm Wendy.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Today we're talking about you, me and the Christmas Trees
- 1:07Speaker 1: from the premiere weekend of Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas series,
- 1:13Speaker 1: the very first movie. Are you ready?
- 1:16Speaker 2: I am? I'm sorry I was yawning when I said
- 1:18Speaker 2: my name. It's not indicative of what I thought of
- 1:21Speaker 2: this movie at all.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Do you have a synopsis I do.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Olivia is Connecticut's resident expert on evergreens, who, just before
- 1:29Speaker 2: days before the holiday, agrees to help Jack, a fourth
- 1:32Speaker 2: generation Christmas tree farmer in Avon. A mysterious illness has
- 1:36Speaker 2: befallen their first causing them to die out and threatening
- 1:40Speaker 2: his family's one hundred year old business. As Olivia tries
- 1:44Speaker 2: to get to the root of the problem and extends
- 1:47Speaker 2: her stay in town, she and Jack spend more time
- 1:50Speaker 2: together and feelings begin to develop.
- 1:53Speaker 1: What's happened to? Some news and notes on this movie?
- 1:55Speaker 1: Can I start with the disappointing one? Sure, Danica mckeller
- 1:59Speaker 1: has signed a deal with Ghak Family, No not seeing
- 2:06Speaker 1: some of our favorites jump over there. Jen Lily is
- 2:09Speaker 1: working on movies with their with that network and the
- 2:13Speaker 1: Hallmark is far from progressive, but they are working really
- 2:17Speaker 1: hard to not be anti progressive, to be regressive, and
- 2:21Speaker 1: I think Gak is doing a good job of doing
- 2:25Speaker 1: the exact opposite of that, and I found that disappointing.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So basically I'm guessing that they are just showing them
- 2:32Speaker 2: the money, and these actors are like, well, Okay, I'm
- 2:35Speaker 2: gonna sign this deal. It's got to be it, and
- 2:37Speaker 2: then that makes me start to question, like the integrity
- 2:40Speaker 2: of these actors.
- 2:42Speaker 1: But whatever, hall Mark has been bringing in new actors
- 2:46Speaker 1: and let's bring some fresh faces. Maybe it's time.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe it is just time. And who am I
- 2:52Speaker 2: never watched Hallmark Christmas movies ever, this is the second
- 2:55Speaker 2: year and I'm feel connected and hurt betray by these
- 3:00Speaker 2: actors who are leaving to go work for this other company.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Here you I hear?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Oh okay, so additional news and notes? Do you have
- 3:08Speaker 1: anything else on this?
- 3:10Speaker 2: You know? A lot of it was that it was
- 3:12Speaker 2: really hot in Canada when they filmed this movie. It
- 3:15Speaker 2: was in August. Lots and lots of the same story
- 3:19Speaker 2: that I found that what's her face, Danica? What's her
- 3:22Speaker 2: last name? M Keller? Yes, that she poured cold water
- 3:26Speaker 2: in her boots the cool off blah blah blah blah. Yes,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I wrote that story over and over and over again. Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 2: me too, it was hot.
- 3:33Speaker 1: We talked about this on our review of The Santa Steakeout,
- 3:36Speaker 1: knowing that it's kind of taking me out of the
- 3:38Speaker 1: holiday moment a little bit, and I'm I'm just gonna
- 3:41Speaker 1: try and forget it because I want to believe that
- 3:44Speaker 1: they're cold in their coats.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well, it's always hot here around Christmas time, so it's
- 3:49Speaker 2: not hot. I know, I know it's warm. I'mritting a
- 3:53Speaker 2: one hundred degrees. But it's you guys in the fifties.
- 3:56Speaker 2: We live in southern California. We do not wear big
- 3:59Speaker 2: winter coats.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm not in a bathing suit on Christmas Day?
- 4:03Speaker 2: True fair? Okay, fine, I have two more news and notes. Okay,
- 4:08Speaker 2: this took place in Avon, Connecticut. This is the second
- 4:11Speaker 2: movie to take place in Avon, Connecticut. The other was
- 4:17Speaker 2: taking a shot at Love. I always get that one
- 4:19Speaker 2: mixed up with the two for the Win or yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: the Skime the Ski movie. But this was written by
- 4:26Speaker 2: Julie Sherman Wolf, who we've had here on the podcast.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I really like her as a writer.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 2: My other news and note is that I thought Jason
- 4:36Speaker 2: Hervey Is that how you say his last name? Hervey?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Sure? He was such a dick.
- 4:40Speaker 2: In this movie.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Is that news?
- 4:45Speaker 2: I don't know why I have under news and notes.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I have a note about that too. It's le's later
- 4:50Speaker 1: for me.
- 4:51Speaker 2: But okay, well, all right, we'll talk about that later.
- 4:53Speaker 2: But anyway, that's all I have for news and notes.
- 4:56Speaker 1: The last thing I have is Julie Sherman Wolf, who,
- 4:57Speaker 1: as Wendy just said, wrote this movie. She tweeted that
- 5:00Speaker 1: she used the names of her close friends in the movie,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and she had an outdoor watch party and she said,
- 5:05Speaker 1: most of the people whose names I used in this
- 5:07Speaker 1: movie are here at this premiere party with me.
- 5:09Speaker 2: So I saw her watch party on Instagram. I looked
- 5:13Speaker 2: real cute.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I loved that, and I also loved she kept it
- 5:16Speaker 1: super real because she has a teenage son, and she
- 5:20Speaker 1: posted a photo the teenagers just on their phone. She's like,
- 5:22Speaker 1: let's pretend like they're watching the movie on their phones.
- 5:25Speaker 2: They're not.
- 5:25Speaker 1: So as parents of teenagers, I could appreciate that. They're like, yeah, yeah, mom, Okay,
- 5:29Speaker 1: totally to Okay, what was your first impression of this movie?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Okay, So this is just the opposite where I was
- 5:38Speaker 2: really really excited for the Santa sakaut and was a
- 5:40Speaker 2: little bit disappointed. I wasn't totally looking forward to this
- 5:44Speaker 2: one because you trashed Danica oh Heller.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So I did not trash her. I just said she's
- 5:51Speaker 1: not my favorite homemark actress.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But I know this movie well a lot I listened
- 5:55Speaker 2: to a lot of things you say, bag, and so
- 5:57Speaker 2: I had this, you know, impression that she was a
- 6:00Speaker 2: crap actress in these movies, and I ended up really
- 6:04Speaker 2: liking it.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I agree with that assessment. I went into this movie.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I had kind of forgotten prior to watching it that
- 6:11Speaker 1: Julie Sherman Wolf had written it, so my hopes were
- 6:14Speaker 1: not particularly high. It's the launch movie of Countdown to
- 6:17Speaker 1: Christmas that can sometimes not be the greatest spot. Again,
- 6:21Speaker 1: Danica mckeller is not my favorite Hallmark actress. I thought
- 6:25Speaker 1: this was a great movie, well written, and I this
- 6:28Speaker 1: is my favorite Danica mckeller movie by far and away. Wow. Yeah, No,
- 6:34Speaker 1: I thought it was.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Really well written as well. There was a lot of
- 6:38Speaker 2: funny lines in it, and I have one that I'm
- 6:40Speaker 2: going to mention a little bit later on. So yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 2: so let's jump into what did you What did you
- 6:45Speaker 2: like about it?
- 6:46Speaker 1: So I want to start just hopping back to your
- 6:49Speaker 1: news and note callback oh oh uh. Dwayne in this
- 6:52Speaker 1: movie played by Jason Hervey. I wrote that I like
- 6:55Speaker 1: that he's kind of a punk in this movie because
- 6:58Speaker 1: my memory of his character Wayne on The Wonder Years.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I liked that tie in there.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, was that? Again.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I haven't watched The Wonder Years in probably twenty years,
- 7:08Speaker 1: so I could be misremembering, but my memory is he's
- 7:11Speaker 1: kind of the punk older brother, not super nice to Kevin,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and so I kind of, whether it was intentional or not,
- 7:18Speaker 1: liked that they gave him a similar role in this movie.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And I knew he was in this and I was like,
- 7:24Speaker 1: where's Wayne? And then in he walks, and so I
- 7:28Speaker 1: enjoyed his placement in this movie.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So that is what my note says here. Jason Hervey
- 7:33Speaker 2: Dick character very similar to Wayne on The Wonder Years
- 7:38Speaker 2: quote unquote Dwayne. I thought that was cheeky and fun
- 7:42Speaker 2: and a cute little wink in a nod to The
- 7:45Speaker 2: Wonder Years there where they named him Dwyane. I'm I'm
- 7:48Speaker 2: guessing that was a last minute script change, probably, don't
- 7:52Speaker 2: you think once they hired him on, Oh, sure, that
- 7:55Speaker 2: makes sense. And like you said, I haven't watched The
- 7:58Speaker 2: Wonder Years in a bazillion years, And as soon as
- 8:01Speaker 2: he came on, I was like, yeah, he was the
- 8:03Speaker 2: same on The Wonder Years. So I thought that was
- 8:05Speaker 2: really funny. I was a little disappointed because they advertised
- 8:09Speaker 2: him as this reunion. He was in it for maybe
- 8:13Speaker 2: ten minutes. He was barely in this.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Movie, I think, right, he was in it the right
- 8:18Speaker 1: amount for his character. I didn't need more of him. Yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 1: but to call it a reunion is more of an
- 8:24Speaker 1: offset reunion than anything.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It was probably a one day film day for him.
- 8:31Speaker 1: There was a moment that I really loved. If you
- 8:34Speaker 1: recall when we discussed Advice to Love By, I complained
- 8:38Speaker 1: that there was no heat. These two were actively dating
- 8:41Speaker 1: throughout the movie and there's absolutely no affection, and all
- 8:44Speaker 1: I wanted was like, just tuck her hair behind her ear.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Do something. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 1: There's a moment Jack walks Olivia back to her room
- 8:52Speaker 1: and he kind of sweeps a little pine needle out
- 8:55Speaker 1: of her hair.
- 8:56Speaker 2: That was smooth.
- 8:57Speaker 1: That was a great moment.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, it's so funny that
- 9:01Speaker 2: you mentioned that, because I had forgotten about it until
- 9:03Speaker 2: you just said it. And I was like that was
- 9:05Speaker 2: so like subtle and hot at the same time that
- 9:10Speaker 2: I was like, oh, we can't need right, Yeah, I agree.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Is this the time where I tell you that Benjamin
- 9:17Speaker 1: Ayers is a wowie zouie for me? What I can no.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I mean I find him. I find him rugged and
- 9:28Speaker 2: handsome and funny, but not quite a wowie zowie for me.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Oh oh, he's a total wowie zowie for me, total
- 9:36Speaker 1: wowie's aoie.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Okay, what else did you like? I thought these two
- 9:41Speaker 2: had really fun banter. They worked really well together, like comedically,
- 9:48Speaker 2: you know, they were funny together. I thought they like
- 9:51Speaker 2: riffed off each other. I thought was really good. And
- 9:53Speaker 2: I don't know if that's actors or if that's writing
- 9:56Speaker 2: or a combination of both, but I applaud them for that.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And I loved the chemistry between them.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Well, I thought the exact same thing. I thought they
- 10:05Speaker 1: had great chemistry and great banter. And I think Julie
- 10:09Speaker 1: Sherman Wolf is a great writer. I think she's one
- 10:11Speaker 1: of the best in the Hallmark business. Her writing is
- 10:13Speaker 1: quippy and it's witty, and it's she's she's funny to
- 10:17Speaker 1: talk to and that translates into her writing. And so
- 10:21Speaker 1: what I felt like Danica and Benjamin Ayres were having
- 10:24Speaker 1: a good time with the script. I've never seen Danica
- 10:27Speaker 1: be this goofy in a movie, huh. It felt like
- 10:30Speaker 1: they were genuinely enjoying it now, granted their actors, but
- 10:34Speaker 1: they sold me. I believed it.
- 10:35Speaker 2: That's what you want from a movie, you want it
- 10:37Speaker 2: to feel believable. I agree. She Danica strikes me as
- 10:42Speaker 2: a little bit stiff, like buttoned up a little bit,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and she did some like funny, silly things in this
- 10:47Speaker 2: movie that I was like borderlined, cringed a little bit,
- 10:50Speaker 2: but I was like, all right, whatever, I'm here for it.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah. It sold me on her character. She strikes me
- 10:56Speaker 1: as the kind of person who's a little shy on set,
- 10:58Speaker 1: like I doesn't like to take super like acting risks,
- 11:02Speaker 1: like she's not gonna, you know, do a solo dance
- 11:05Speaker 1: like that when she did that twirl. Yeah, yeah, man,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I could feel how nervous she probably was prior to
- 11:13Speaker 1: that moment, like she I'm gonna be on the spot
- 11:15Speaker 1: and I have to do this. But I enjoyed that.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I thought she let loose a little bit.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Okay. Another thing I liked about this movie, and I
- 11:21Speaker 2: talked about this in the Santa Steak Out too, is
- 11:23Speaker 2: that at first, well even throughout, it's not really romantically
- 11:28Speaker 2: driven storyline. The story was about the trees, right and
- 11:32Speaker 2: them trying to figure out what is happening with the
- 11:35Speaker 2: trees and what they could lose if the trees or
- 11:38Speaker 2: disease whatever. That's what I liked about it. It was completely
- 11:41Speaker 2: different than anything I've seen from Hallmark.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Right. It was a little more solving the mystery of
- 11:47Speaker 1: the trees. What's happening here? That was their end goal,
- 11:50Speaker 1: not repairing some tear in their interpersonal relationship.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah, or you know, like it could have gone really off,
- 11:59Speaker 2: killed her with like her canceling her wedding and you
- 12:03Speaker 2: know whatever. But I liked it. I like the storyline
- 12:06Speaker 2: a lot.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Hey, if you've listened to our most recent episode of
- 12:11Speaker 1: the main podcast, it's all about getting your act together
- 12:14Speaker 1: prior to the holiday season. And there was a line
- 12:16Speaker 1: in this movie that made me think of that episode
- 12:19Speaker 1: very much, and the line was Christmas isn't something to
- 12:22Speaker 1: get through, it's something to treasure and usink you and
- 12:25Speaker 1: I are on opposite sides of that sentiment.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Well, yes, I absolutely agree with that. That line really
- 12:31Speaker 2: stuck with me a little bit because I'm always just
- 12:34Speaker 2: trying to get through Christmas. And that's what I wrote.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I wrote here. I get why she is reluctant to
- 12:41Speaker 2: return home for the holidays. She doesn't want to live
- 12:43Speaker 2: in this like perfect facade, we're happy family whatever. Like,
- 12:49Speaker 2: I just I got it. I got it. I liked it.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I liked that whole part of it.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yes, did she like it?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Made me stop and think, is what I'm trying to
- 12:57Speaker 2: say here.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, did you like anything else about this movie?
- 13:01Speaker 2: I really liked their couple. I can't remember is he
- 13:06Speaker 2: the brother in law?
- 13:07Speaker 1: I thought maybe he was just like a close friend.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I don't know. I couldn't remember. But they had that
- 13:11Speaker 2: whole drink competition, and of course she won, come on, guys.
- 13:15Speaker 2: But I just thought that the whole scene was funny,
- 13:17Speaker 2: Like it was a different, you know, a different spin
- 13:21Speaker 2: on baking cookies, which they did. They did a cookie decorating,
- 13:25Speaker 2: but like you know, making like a drink or whatever
- 13:27Speaker 2: was like a fun different spin.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that something. I just thought it was good.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I thought a gingerbread house decorating. Yeah, exactly exactly. So
- 13:37Speaker 1: that's what I've got. What did you wish for?
- 13:40Speaker 2: I wish that the resolution between Olivia's family was less easy, huh.
- 13:45Speaker 2: You know, she had like years and years and years
- 13:48Speaker 2: of all this like pent up emotion and feelings of resentment,
- 13:52Speaker 2: hating the holidays because of her mom. Really, and then
- 13:56Speaker 2: like one single phone call, one single meeting, it's all resolved.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It's like, that's a lot to unpact there. Well, it
- 14:04Speaker 2: could be that easy.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yes, it's a quick They come to the coffee shop
- 14:07Speaker 1: and they leave. Jack says to Olivia, you can't expect
- 14:10Speaker 1: your parents to solve a problem that they don't know
- 14:12Speaker 1: they have.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And great line.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yes, I love that. And it's funny because I had
- 14:18Speaker 1: that line written down, and until you brought up that resolution,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I had forgotten what it was in reference to. And
- 14:24Speaker 1: I think maybe that line speaks to the quickness of
- 14:27Speaker 1: the resolution. It wasn't so much that her parents were
- 14:30Speaker 1: so attached to these traditions. They were just stuck in them.
- 14:33Speaker 1: They didn't realize that it was a problem because she
- 14:36Speaker 1: just went along with it. And yes, her mom was
- 14:39Speaker 1: very much the is that what you're wearing? Mom? But
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think there are plenty of us who can relate
- 14:45Speaker 1: to that kind of parenting. I mean I do that
- 14:48Speaker 1: with my own children, like, yeah, you know, could you
- 14:52Speaker 1: comb your hair for this event? That sort of thing.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I do wish that had been longer, but I did
- 14:58Speaker 1: like that. The resolution was, Hey, let's actually discuss this
- 15:01Speaker 1: problem like adults.
- 15:04Speaker 2: But then Jack freaks out on her at her suggestion
- 15:07Speaker 2: to diversify his business, and I was like, dude, you
- 15:11Speaker 2: got to communicate why that doesn't work for you, you know.
- 15:14Speaker 1: But my question is can he survive on a one
- 15:19Speaker 1: month long business? What is he doing the eleven months
- 15:22Speaker 1: out of the year that he's not selling Christmas trees.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I understand their attachment to the tree farm, that was
- 15:27Speaker 1: the way that it had always been done. But you're
- 15:30Speaker 1: telling me that in twenty twenty one, your entire income
- 15:34Speaker 1: comes in in one month out of the year.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Well, Christmas trees are kind of expensive, I will say one,
- 15:39Speaker 2: but two. On the flip side of that, there's like
- 15:42Speaker 2: a baby Christmas tree farm near us a little bit south,
- 15:47Speaker 2: and yes, they do Christmas trees during the winter holiday season,
- 15:50Speaker 2: but they also have a farmer's market every weekend, and
- 15:54Speaker 2: they do other things to generate income.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Perhaps a pumpkin patch during the fall. Yes, I don't
- 16:00Speaker 1: think it would have been a disservice to his dad's
- 16:03Speaker 1: memory to continue to be able to afford to eat. Yeah, right,
- 16:08Speaker 1: to figure, God, right, here's what I wished for, and
- 16:10Speaker 1: this is a call to all Hallmark writers everywhere stop
- 16:16Speaker 1: placing the pivotal town event on Christmas Eve. It is
- 16:20Speaker 1: not believable. I do not care that that's what happened
- 16:23Speaker 1: to his grandfather, and so now the town lights the
- 16:26Speaker 1: tree on Christmas Eve. It is not believable one that
- 16:30Speaker 1: people are willing to wait until the night before Christmas
- 16:32Speaker 1: to light this tree, and then Christmas is over, and
- 16:35Speaker 1: then what they're enjoying it through New Year's when they
- 16:38Speaker 1: tear it down. Nope, I don't believe that. I also
- 16:41Speaker 1: don't believe that all of these people have nothing better
- 16:43Speaker 1: to do on Christmas Eve than set up this party
- 16:46Speaker 1: in the town and attend this town party. Everyone's doing
- 16:50Speaker 1: their own thing. The town event should be the first
- 16:53Speaker 1: weekend in December or the weekend after Thanksgiving, so you
- 16:57Speaker 1: can then do your own thing for the rest of
- 16:59Speaker 1: the month. You can see the beautiful tree in the
- 17:02Speaker 1: middle of town, but nobody wants to attend a festival
- 17:04Speaker 1: on Christmas Eve.
- 17:06Speaker 2: The end, well, I wanted to bring up the point
- 17:09Speaker 2: that any big like holiday Christmas tree here in our
- 17:14Speaker 2: neighboring towns is always spray painted green because it dies
- 17:20Speaker 2: as soon as you cut it, you know what I mean? Yes,
- 17:23Speaker 2: or it has like all this filler into it to
- 17:25Speaker 2: make it look like lush and full. It's never. It's
- 17:29Speaker 2: never like this freshly cut tree that comes in, you know,
- 17:32Speaker 2: the day of Christmas Eve or whatever.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Do you recall seeing the Rockefeller Christmas tree go up
- 17:37Speaker 1: last year?
- 17:38Speaker 2: No? So was it in pieces?
- 17:41Speaker 1: No, it's a full, live tree that they put up
- 17:45Speaker 1: every year. But when they put it up, and we
- 17:48Speaker 1: typically don't see it go up there. But when they
- 17:51Speaker 1: put it up, it looked like it needed a little
- 17:53Speaker 1: bit of help. And there was the big joke that
- 17:55Speaker 1: like this tree had the same twenty twenty the rest
- 17:58Speaker 1: of us.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And then when it was fully decorated, you know, they
- 18:03Speaker 1: add like fake branches, and then of course they add
- 18:06Speaker 1: lights and they add ornaments. It's beautiful, looks exactly as
- 18:09Speaker 1: you expect it to look. And so I don't know
- 18:12Speaker 1: what my point is here other than well, I don't
- 18:14Speaker 1: know what my point was at the point of like
- 18:16Speaker 1: spray painting green trees. You can put your tree up
- 18:19Speaker 1: prior to Christmas Eve. Yees, stop that, I hear you?
- 18:23Speaker 1: All right? Are you ready for? Did you see that
- 18:26Speaker 1: I am. Benjamin Ayers tweeted, I do my own stunts
- 18:29Speaker 1: about the whipped cream on his nose scene, and I
- 18:32Speaker 1: found that hilarious.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I thought that was a really funny scene too. I
- 18:36Speaker 2: wondered if it was like real now, it couldn't have been,
- 18:40Speaker 2: like I know that he really got whipped cream on
- 18:42Speaker 2: his face. Just the reaction I thought was really funny. Agree, Okay,
- 18:46Speaker 2: So I read some reviews and there's some criticism about
- 18:51Speaker 2: a line that he had about an ornament being like
- 18:55Speaker 2: twenty seven years old.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, he's forty four.
- 18:59Speaker 2: He's forty four four years old, Like, why are we
- 19:01Speaker 2: lying about his age? There's no ways he does not
- 19:05Speaker 2: look twenty seven, first of all, and she is forty six.
- 19:09Speaker 1: She's my age.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I'm shocked.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So I wondered about that line so much because when
- 19:15Speaker 1: he says it, he almost gives like a little wink.
- 19:17Speaker 1: After he says it, he's like twenty seven years ago,
- 19:20Speaker 1: And I almost am like, wait, are we supposed to
- 19:23Speaker 1: believe you're twenty seven? Because in the Hallmark universe, if
- 19:26Speaker 1: you're forty four, certainly should not be single anymore. Is
- 19:30Speaker 1: that huh? Is that the implication here? I almost it
- 19:33Speaker 1: seemed to me when he said it that he laughed
- 19:35Speaker 1: a little bit when he said it. But so many
- 19:38Speaker 1: people bumped on that line that I think I was
- 19:41Speaker 1: maybe alone in feeling that way, and that the intention
- 19:44Speaker 1: was that he was playing a twenty seven year old. No,
- 19:47Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with being forty four, but it's not
- 19:50Speaker 1: twenty seven.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it just was weird. But you're right though, like
- 19:54Speaker 2: if she was forty six and still single, well, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 2: she was engaged to be.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Married, so there's no shame in being forty six and
- 20:01Speaker 1: is still single, but not humors. Perhaps there's a message there, right.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I would like to know why, as people are continuing
- 20:09Speaker 1: to return trees to him and he is giving them
- 20:11Speaker 1: their money back, he continues to then sell trees. No't
- 20:15Speaker 1: you know something wrong? Why are you creating more of
- 20:17Speaker 1: an issue for yourself? Stop stop selling them?
- 20:20Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know, I know, And he
- 20:25Speaker 2: the amount of money there was one part I was like, no, wait,
- 20:28Speaker 2: Christmas trees are so freaking expensive. They're in the hundreds
- 20:32Speaker 2: of dollars for like a fresh cut tree. I don't
- 20:37Speaker 2: think like that they were working with that kind of
- 20:39Speaker 2: money because I just remember he was giving a refund.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Needles fall off the trees. This is not groundbreaking. There's
- 20:47Speaker 1: a nightmare of real trees is they're a mess exactly.
- 20:50Speaker 1: The funniest line for me. And this falls into did
- 20:53Speaker 1: you see that or did you hear that? She says
- 20:56Speaker 1: Danica McKellar says science for the wind, and I thought.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Huh, oh, wonder, I wonder if that's I don't I
- 21:05Speaker 2: thought it was funny. I thought it was maybe a
- 21:08Speaker 2: little I don't know.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Julie Gruman Wolf, were you being cheeky? Cheeky is
- 21:14Speaker 1: what the word I was looking for. Yeah, perfect, that's
- 21:16Speaker 1: a great that's a great call out. I wrote, do
- 21:19Speaker 1: trees have DNA? Because Danica talks about meaning to DNA
- 21:22Speaker 1: sequence these trees and the answer is, yes, trees have DNA.
- 21:24Speaker 1: In case any wonder, they do have DNA, more of
- 21:28Speaker 1: some type of DNA than human The cells have more
- 21:31Speaker 1: DNA than human cells, so they haven't fully mapped the
- 21:35Speaker 1: tree DNA sequence.
- 21:36Speaker 2: But ah, trees do have DNA. Oh that's cool, that's cool.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I mean I just wondered, like she basically made something
- 21:44Speaker 2: that already exists. It's like basically that stuff that you
- 21:47Speaker 2: put in cut flowers right for that last longer. I
- 21:50Speaker 2: mean you could put sugar. I think sugar is another thing.
- 21:53Speaker 1: That you could put in there.
- 21:54Speaker 2: So did they actually solve the mystery of what was
- 21:59Speaker 2: causing did the trees have a disease?
- 22:01Speaker 1: I don't even remember.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I don't know mystery.
- 22:04Speaker 1: All I know is they had this stop gap measure
- 22:06Speaker 1: to keep them alive through Christmas, right, and then they
- 22:10Speaker 1: were then going to have to solve the issue for
- 22:13Speaker 1: next year.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh, maybe we'll get a part two. Probably not, not
- 22:17Speaker 2: that she signed a deal with GHAK. Who are not
- 22:19Speaker 2: going to get a part two?
- 22:20Speaker 1: You Me and the Pumpkin Patch.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Okay, just real quick. I did look on IMDb. The
- 22:28Speaker 2: reviews for this movie were not great on IMDb. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I was kind of surprised because I really liked it.
- 22:35Speaker 2: But the one that stood up on stood out on
- 22:37Speaker 2: IMDb was was this shot in spring? No, dummy, it
- 22:42Speaker 2: was shot in August, which we know. I mean, no,
- 22:46Speaker 2: it was not shot last December. Like, are these people idiots?
- 22:50Speaker 1: They're idiots?
- 22:51Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:52Speaker 1: They were upset that it didn't look like winter.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Well, welcome to Hallmark, folks, Yeah, welcome to movie making right, God, dummies,
- 23:02Speaker 1: They were a little heavy on the digital snow in
- 23:05Speaker 1: this movie.
- 23:07Speaker 2: This movie in particular, they were laying down on the
- 23:10Speaker 2: ground and the digital snow was supposed to be like
- 23:13Speaker 2: hitting their faces, but it would just like magically melt
- 23:16Speaker 2: away before it even touched their skin.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and I always comment on the soapy equality of
- 23:24Speaker 1: the fake snow that is used when they use fake
- 23:27Speaker 1: real snow, But I still would prefer that landing on
- 23:31Speaker 1: their shoulders to digital snow where there's no snow on
- 23:36Speaker 1: their clothes, on anything around them except for the ground
- 23:40Speaker 1: at all. Right, it looks like it's going to be
- 23:42Speaker 1: a heavy digital snow season. I wonder if it doesn't
- 23:46Speaker 1: work as well when it's one hundred degrees, if those
- 23:48Speaker 1: if it just dissolves too quickly.
- 23:50Speaker 2: The soap bubbles or whatever they have used in the past, yestly,
- 23:54Speaker 2: if that's an issue. What did you rate this movie?
- 23:58Speaker 2: I gave this movie three stars.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Exactly what I gave it is.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I liked it.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Thank you for listening to this episode and we'll be
- 24:05Speaker 1: back next week. Have a great weekend, happy watching, Goodbye bye.
