- 2:15Coming up a little bit later on the show, we have delegate and
- 2:19State Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin. It's going to be here to talk about
- 2:23a variety of the interesting thing about the interview with Pushkin, we actually set
- 2:25this up like a week or so ago, and then the Trump indictment came
- 2:29down on Thursday, and so obviously he's gonna spend some time talking about that.
- 2:35That's actually not why he was here though. Is here to talk about
- 2:38something else, But we'll get his take on that. He was on Hoppy
- 2:39yesterday. We'll put a little bit more of a local flare on it.
- 2:43Will Dela get to the stad Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin coming up a little
- 2:46bit later on, But let's talk about some wine and jazz. Wine and
- 2:50jazz music festivals part of festival happening this Saturday afternoon, starting at three on
- 2:53the lawn of the University of Charleston's campus. Part of the funds Funds for
- 2:58our West Virginia. Sarah Right is executive director of that group, and she
- 3:01joins us. Now, Sarah, good morning, how are you. Good
- 3:04morning? Thank you for having me, Thank you for being here. First
- 3:07of all, gotta get your opinion of the Trump and Diamond. Now I'm
- 3:08kidding, we don't. I'm not. We're not talking. We'll say that
- 3:10till nine twenty. Okay, now that's coming up. That's no, we're
- 3:16not gonna be talking about that. Um. This is Saturday at University of
- 3:21Charleston, and a big shout out to your co presenters Spellman Thomas in Battle
- 3:24making it happen. It's gonna be a great day, you see. Absolutely
- 3:29Yeah, We're gonna have a day field of wonderful music, food and drink.
- 3:32So we look forward to seeing everyone there. It's gonna be a good
- 3:36time and it always is. And I mentioned your co presenter there, the
- 3:40firm of Spellman Thomas in Battle. But there are so many others that make
- 3:45this whole thing possible. We're proud to be a part of it here at
- 3:47WVRC Media, the Charleston cluster of stations here, but so many others make
- 3:52it to make this a reality as well. Absolutely, we have a wonderful
- 3:55lineup of sponsors. Dutch Miller is new to the group. WSA see.
- 4:00We just have a wonderful group of supporters. And because all this is for
- 4:02a wonderful cause. Many people don't know that Wine and Jazz were raising money
- 4:06for that event for our eleven local member arts groups and talk about those arts
- 4:12groups and exactly what it is that they do. Yeah, so fun for
- 4:15the arts. We really our motto is to provide one gift for all the
- 4:19arts, and we support our eleven member arts groups by providing operational support to
- 4:25them. And it's really something that we take very seriously. Let's do this.
- 4:31I'm in kind of a good mood today, despite the fact that Pushkin's
- 4:34going to be here a little bit later on. I'm actually in a pretty
- 4:36good mood. So here's what we're gonna do. I just happen to have
- 4:40Sarah a couple of tickets for the Wine and Jazz Music Festival this Saturday,
- 4:43starting at three on the campus at the University of Charleston. Two tickets,
- 4:46and I'll give them away now to call her number three three or four three
- 4:50four five fifty eight fifty eight three or four, three four five fifty at
- 4:54fifty eight if you're caller number three right now, Hollywood, Jeff Petty is
- 4:57standing by, and we will give way a couple of passes to the Wine
- 5:01Jazz Music Festival. Caller three right now, three or four three four five
- 5:04fifty eight fifty eight three or four three four, five fifty and fifty eight.
- 5:08Caller three, right now, I'm gonna hook you up with a pair
- 5:10of tickets and operators as they say, Hollywood, Jeff Petty standing by right
- 5:15now, good looking for caller three, and I'll hook up with a pair
- 5:17of free tickets. Sarah, Let's talk about the amount of work that goes
- 5:20into this. This is a huge events. You've got a lot of moving
- 5:26parts here for the musicians to the displays. Talk about the work that goes
- 5:30into them. Absolutely. You know, Wine and Jazz is such a large
- 5:33event. We require a large number of volunteers, which we value immensely.
- 5:39Our board and member arts groups all come together to pitch in and make this
- 5:43event possible. So yeah, it's a big event, but very worthwhile.
- 5:48We are looking forward to having such a wonderful day. Talk about the musical
- 5:53aspect of it. You can't have a wine and jazz fest without music.
- 5:55So let's let's state the obvious and get into it. It can't all be
- 5:59about wine and so although that's not a bad thing, let's talk about the
- 6:02Uh, let's talk about the music and the people that you have performing.
- 6:06Yeah, So we have an amazing music lineup this year. So the music
- 6:11starts at three o'clock and runs all the way until ten o'clock. So we've
- 6:15got a full lineup of very talented musicians. So first up, we have
- 6:18Hot Jazz of Charleston, who is a local group of very talented musicians who
- 6:24will be kicking off the event. Up next, we will have the very
- 6:28talented Holly Forbes and you might recognize that name from a the hit TV show
- 6:33The Voice. Yeah, Holly's fantastic. I actually had a chance to m
- 6:35see some events that Holly did last year when she was out touring with with
- 6:41with some other folks and uh and and she's just a treasure to be around
- 6:46too. She's just such a genuinely nice person she is and we are so
- 6:48happy to have her on board. Then up next we will have wine and
- 6:53Jazz staple Bob Thompson, yeah, yeah, crowd favorite. We're so happy
- 6:57to have him back this year. And then after Bob, we have a
- 7:00group from Pittsburgh called The common Heart and they performed on Mountain Stage about a
- 7:05year ago and man, they blew people away. And really they're backed by
- 7:10popular demand because people loved them so much. And then our headliner is called
- 7:15Moonhooch, and man, they have a sound unlike anything Charleston has heard.
- 7:20It's a show that you are not going to want to miss. I've seen
- 7:23them in concert with my husband like three times, and we love them.
- 7:27So what kind of I mean? I know it's jazz, but I mean,
- 7:30can you give me like a little bit of a flavor of what to
- 7:32expect from it? I mean, I love the name Moonhooch. I have
- 7:34to say I love that so well. Moonhooch will have you dancing. Let's
- 7:39just put it that way, like be ready to move like because they have
- 7:44it's just such a unique style. Really you can't compare it to anything else,
- 7:47but just be ready to come and dance is all I can say.
- 7:50Their show packs a lot of energy, and yeah, it's a lot of
- 7:56fun. I understand. We have a winner of our tickets Hollywood. Jeff
- 7:58tells me it's Greg Talbert from Charleston. So Greg, congratulations. He just
- 8:01want himself a couple of free passes to wine and jazz. So Greg enjoyed
- 8:07the show. I'm sure he's going to enjoy that. Great Talbert and Charleston
- 8:09was our winner, so congratulations to him. Now let's talk about the wine
- 8:13part of it. How does that work? Yeah, so we have an
- 8:16amazing wine lineup, so honestly, we have something for everyone. We have
- 8:22wine available, we have domestic beer, craft beer, and Seltzer's, so
- 8:26even if wine is not for your taste, we have something for everyone.
- 8:31But we do have a wonderful selection of wines. So we look forward to
- 8:37seeing everyone turn out. And I know a lot can change between now and
- 8:39then weatherwise, because you're at the mercy of the weather. But I was
- 8:43just looking ahead here at the weather. It looks pretty good for Saturday.
- 8:46There's some chance of rain over the weekend, but as of right now,
- 8:50what I just looked at here looks pretty good for Saturday. I gotta tell
- 8:54you, I am not looking okay, don't look I'm just like, oh
- 8:56gosh, well, too much can change. But I mean, but right
- 9:00now it looks good for Saturday. Yes, good, I'm glad to hear
- 9:03you say that. Fingers crossed. Yeah. Um, And let's talk about
- 9:05the ticketing. How exactly does that work. I know that you've been kind
- 9:07of pushing tickets in advance. You can still do that. I think you
- 9:11can still get your tickets in advance. Absolutely, Okay, your tickets in
- 9:15advance, so you can get those through our Facebook page Fund for the Arts
- 9:18West Virginia, or you can purchase tickets on our website ww dot Fund for
- 9:24the Arts wv dot org. Okay, but you can also buy tickets the
- 9:28day of the event at the main gate, So we have multiple ways that
- 9:33you can purcha take and there's not a chance, I mean, I wouldn't
- 9:35think that this would be sold out because you have such a huge campus there
- 9:37at the University of Charleston, and it truly is one and big shout out
- 9:41to to to doctor Roth and the folks are at University of Charleston and Gail
- 9:46Carter, who's one of my favorite people that worked over there. They just
- 9:48do a fantastic job with this event and it's really one of the one of
- 9:52the in my opinion, one of the more beautiful settings in Charleston. It
- 9:54is so our event is very unique in that fact that you know, taking
- 9:58place on the lawn, it's just such a beautiful venue. We're so happy
- 10:03to be there, all right, And where can people learn more? I
- 10:05know that you got the Facebook. I was kind of stalking the Facebook page
- 10:09there to get some graphics to put up on my Facebook page. So let's
- 10:11set the Facebook page, website, whatever you got. Yep, you can
- 10:15hit us up on those two places. All right, good to go,
- 10:18And again the proceeds go to a wonderful cause, your Arts organization, which
- 10:22is a fantastic thing. Absolutely, they're the driver behind all this and the
- 10:26reason why we do what we do. Sarah Right is the executive director of
- 10:30the Fund for the Arts, and she's the one that's over this thing.
- 10:33The Wine and Jazz Music Festival as part of festival this Saturday afternoon, starts
- 10:37at three on the lawn of the University of Charleston's gonna be a great day,
- 10:39lots of great music. And as Sarah said, even if you're not
- 10:43into the wine thing, that's fine. There's plenty of Seltzer's plenty of beers
- 10:48or soda, that's what you were water or whatever. Absolutely, yes,
- 10:52all right, good stuff. We will see you there. I know our
- 10:54stations are going to be there, and we're proud to be a part of
- 10:58it as well. For such a great cause and a beautiful setting. The
- 11:00weather looks good. It's all good. Brian Hughes media roles. Brian Hues
- 11:03tells them it's going to be okay, okay, counting on Brian. All

- 14:48Cit Democratic Party chairing Delegate Mike Pushkin joins us, Mike, good morning,
- 14:52how are you? I'm doing well? But how could I possibly be the
- 14:54man? If you're the man? That's true. I'm glad to hear you
- 14:58say that. Promo material, Jeff, write that down promo. Yeah,
- 15:01we're always looking for things like that. Uh, we're talking about whine and
- 15:05jazz a little bit earlier. I am just now at this ripe old age
- 15:07of fifty two discovering jazz music. I probably should have done it a long
- 15:11time ago. I like the classic stuff I'm become. I'm a huge Coltrane
- 15:16fan. Yeah that's my Yeah, that's the good stuff right there. That
- 15:18early sixties, late fifties, early six miles Davis stuff. Yeah, I
- 15:22like it. I'm gonna hit you right off the top rope here with this
- 15:26from Mike. Uh, is there any truth to the rumor that you're gonna
- 15:28be taken over as host a Wheel of Fortune now that Pat say Jack's retiring.
- 15:31You know, I'm I'm not allowed to talk about it yet until until
- 15:35the deal is finalized. But yeah, so you know, if you're looking
- 15:39to buy a VOW, I mean, guy, that's your cap right here.
- 15:43All right, all right, I feel like Mike, I'm kind of
- 15:48becoming an afterthought for you. You know, I got you, I get
- 15:50you to David Hoppy had you on yesterday. Man, I made you and
- 15:52I can break you. Well, I'll keep that in mind. Um.
- 15:56And he also left me with some faulty head yesterday, and it seems like
- 16:00I have him again today. Well you know, he says, yesterday Mike
- 16:06was on with talk Line and he does his when he does his hits,
- 16:07he does him here from the studio. And I thought I was being a
- 16:10nice guy, and I plugged the headphones in for I wasn't even here.
- 16:14And so apparently there was some sort of an issue with the headphones and you
- 16:17thought I'd sabotaged, and there still is. Well, there's another pair of
- 16:18headphones over there. Maybe we can get Hollywood Jeff Patty to see if he
- 16:22can get another set of headphones in here forest and we'll see what the what
- 16:25the issue there is? Are those any better? Yeah, they're working.
- 16:30In reality, we actually set this interview up, as I mentioned of a
- 16:33listeners earlier. UM, I think it was like a week ago today.
- 16:37We set up because you wanted to talk about something else entirely, and we
- 16:38are going to talk about that. We'll get that a little bit later on.
- 16:41But the big story, of course, is the Trump indictment. Former
- 16:44president is due in a Miami courtroom today facing thirty seven criminal charges for refusing
- 16:52to turn turnover classified documents, etcetera, etcetera. Um, your take here,
- 16:56and this is your challenge, Mike and I actually you already have a
- 17:00phone call. Wait now, you'll get to that here in a couple of
- 17:02moments. Your your take is to talk about this without mentioning the state Republican
- 17:07Party. Okay, well, I'm glad that you mentioned that he was in
- 17:11there. He's being charged with a failure to turn them over or refusing to
- 17:15turn them over because that's really the I believe the seriousness of of the of
- 17:21what's in the indictment. Of course, you know, everybody is uh,
- 17:25you know, innocent until proven guilty, and then the president deserves that uh
- 17:29that uh, you know, right, as well as anybody else the former
- 17:33president does. But I think it was said by uh Bill Barr, not
- 17:41exactly a liberal, you know, William Barr was the President's own choice for
- 17:48Attorney General, served as and and he was never fired by the president.
- 17:52He went all the way through the end with the president and he said,
- 17:56if half of what in that indictment is true, then the president his toast
- 18:00his exact work. He said that on Fox News. Yeah, we'll take
- 18:04a phone call. Sure, all right, Don, you're up with delegate
- 18:08and the state Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin. Go ahead, Don, Yeah,
- 18:12good morning, guys. I just want to give my hats off to
- 18:17the Department of Highways. Uh. Spoke with Mike earlier last week there and
- 18:22he told me it's gonna be on today. But I just want to get
- 18:25that out there because Washington Street on the East End all the way down to
- 18:32the interstate excellent job. Department of highways and one other thing. Uh,
- 18:38we've got to get some legislation passed. Mike and I have spoken about this,
- 18:44but it needs to get out there in the public about the uh these
- 18:48companies that come in and rent apartments out to our working poor. Uh,
- 18:55you know, people that can only afford you know, and it's really difficult
- 18:59on him before seven hundred dollars a month. But they're turning into slum lords.
- 19:04And this is not only happening in Knaul County. This is happening in
- 19:10Putnam County and I'm sure probably all over the state. And the name of
- 19:14the company is well, we don't need a name of the company. Yeah,
- 19:18we don't need a name of the company, but go ahead. Yeah.
- 19:19Well, anyway, it's out there that these people are slum lords.
- 19:25They come in from out of state, buy up all these apartments and everything
- 19:30where most of our working poor live. And what they do is they try
- 19:34to come in and get more out of the property by evicting the people with
- 19:40leases. They had it for a lower price. And the company that originally
- 19:45owner of these apartments wasn't excellent company. Might you want to come in on
- 19:48that? Was this a company that owned h the Regal Yes, sir,
- 19:53I thought it was too probably name in the company. Dave doesn't want me
- 19:57to. I agree with you a hundred. We're sent on this done.
- 20:00I think we need to have some stricter regulations on some of these big out
- 20:04of state conglomerates that are buying up properties and not treating their tenants very well.
- 20:10And that was one of the problems with the Regal Apartments. If this
- 20:12is the same company, and I think it is, but if it's not,
- 20:15I apologize. But I mean those tenants done. And Mike, I
- 20:19mean when that story first happened, you know, back first of the year
- 20:22with that fire, I mean they said that they had had numerous issues there
- 20:25and that they had been reported and apparently they had gone unresolved. Well,
- 20:30not only that, Dave, but let's just look at the folks up at
- 20:33City Park where most of his hood run. And these hood inspectors allowed us
- 20:41housing development people to go without hot water. Yeah, you know, as
- 20:48somebody drove a cab for years and was in and out of all, you
- 20:51know, a lot of different parts of town for years and you know,
- 20:53would go in. Sometimes you have to help people with their help people with
- 20:56their groceries or help somebody who had a hard time walk in and out of
- 21:00their their dwelling. I can tell you that I think the city park looks
- 21:04to be in worse shape as it's ever been, and and it's from some
- 21:10huge out of state conglomerate has bought it up. And I think, yeah,
- 21:12I agree with you, we need to have stricter regulations. But if
- 21:15we're gonna do it at a state level, we're also going to need to
- 21:18have more people in the legislature who who care more about the people who are
- 21:23who are paying the rent than the people who are collecting the rent. And
- 21:26that's the issue. Well, and not only that, but but Mike and
- 21:30I know that you're willing to pick up the ball and run, but what
- 21:33about our county commissioners? Come on, Ben Slin, guy, let's get
- 21:38in here. You know, we got to get these folks involved. They
- 21:42have got to start helping our community, all right, don We appreciate your
- 21:48phone call. Thanks a lot. We're talking. A lot of it falls
- 21:49on you know, how to do more stricter inspections as well. So I
- 21:55don't think it's necessarily so much on the local level as much as it is
- 21:59really on a higher level. Five aty Live is brought to part by Generations

- 22:11Let's go back to the Trump indictment for a moment, Mike, um,
- 22:15and you know you won't, as you well know, here a lot
- 22:18of arguments from me, as I said, as a Republican, I wish
- 22:21Trump would just go away. And then with George John Bolton, who was
- 22:25also a Republican former national security advisor to Trump, he is, you know,
- 22:30he's begging for Trump to withdraw from the twenty twenty four And only one
- 22:34of the presidential candidates on the Republican side, that's Asa Hutchinson, has even
- 22:40uttered a peep about this, at least that I've heard. They're not even
- 22:42talking about Chris Christie has oh has he? Okay, why he's he's been
- 22:47an anti Trump person for a long time. But I know when he was
- 22:51trying to be the attorney general, he wasn't. But but but I mean
- 22:53he was ahead of the Trump transition. Okay, now you're right, then
- 22:56Trump turned on, but there was there was a fun but Asa Hutchinson of
- 23:00Arkansas, who has I have as much a chance of winning presidency as Asa
- 23:03Hutchinson does, with all due respect to him. But Asa Hutchinson came out
- 23:07immediately and denounced this. A majority of Americans, though Mike, according to
- 23:12several polls, say they don't want Trump or Biden to be there. Your
- 23:18thoughts on that, Well, we'll see what happens during the primary process.
- 23:22But I know that one candidate where members of his own party are lining up,
- 23:27maybe not the people running as First of all, I don't know who
- 23:30Asa Hutchinson is. He was a gun of Arkansas. Okay, look,
- 23:33well sorry, I should know that. But we have members of Trump's own
- 23:38administration, former members of his administration, who are lining up to say that
- 23:45this guy should not be running. He should not be the nominee. He
- 23:48is detrimental to the country and detrimental to the Republican Party in the long run.
- 23:52In the long run, But you have Republicans in West Virginia who are
- 23:56climbing over each other trying to offer blind support for before even I mean,
- 24:02and they were doing this before the indictment was unsealed. They had no idea
- 24:06what the seriousness of these charges were. Yeah, but they just could not
- 24:08wait to get out there and be the first ones to put out a statement
- 24:12in blind support for this man. Well, and it's and it's And I
- 24:17said this on the show before Mike with the Republicans in West Virginia, out
- 24:19of which I am one, it tends to be who can be the Trumpiest?
- 24:23You know, I love Trump more than It's almost like kids, you
- 24:26know, wrapping their arms around their mommy and daddy saying, you know,
- 24:29with their siblings saying, well, dad loves me more. Now he loves
- 24:32me more. And and it's I'm not a fan of it. And maybe
- 24:36that's the politically expedient thing to do. We know that Trump is still very
- 24:40popular in the state. Maybe that's the politically popular thing to do. Maybe
- 24:44it's doesn't mean it's the right thing to do, but it's not the right
- 24:45thing to do. If you read uh, these indictments, and if you
- 24:49read the seriousness these charges, and if you really care about this country,
- 24:55you know these documents are classified for a reason. Okay, they're extremely sent
- 25:00set of documents, and the reason that we have to keep these things out
- 25:02of out of enemy hands is because real lives are at steak, and they're
- 25:06the lives of our men and women who serve in the armed forces, and
- 25:10the lives of men and women who serve us in the intelligence. But Trump
- 25:17doesn't seem to care a whole lot about that. He's waving these things around
- 25:21in front of these guys who were writing a book. For one of the
- 25:23tape that came out, I'm not sure if you heard it where he was
- 25:27waving these around and reading them and sharing these documents with these guys who are
- 25:30writing a book about Mark Meadows, and who knows who else he shared these
- 25:36with. And the reason that they need to be kept confidential, like I
- 25:38said before, because the real lives are at steak, and a lot of
- 25:42those are lives are men and women in uniform. Unfortunately, if you look
- 25:47at Trump's record, he seems to have always had a problem with with people
- 25:49in uniform, whether it was John McCain who who he said horrible things about
- 25:56where he was running against John McCain was. You know, I don't agree
- 25:59with John McCain politically on a lot of things. He was very very part
- 26:02of the right. I did not always agree with him, but I respected
- 26:04his service. Yeah, and that's the last thing I would see anybody attack
- 26:08as his love of this country and his service in Vietnam for somebody who didn't
- 26:14even serve, and coming from somebody who was a draft dodger, Donald Trump,
- 26:18it's he's always had a problem with people in uniform and it's unpatriotic.
- 26:22Twenty six minutes away from Tim, let's go to the phones, and Brad,
- 26:26you're on with delegate and sat Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin. Go ahead,
- 26:30Hey, Mike, Hey, Brad, just answer the question he asked,
- 26:34what is your thoughts about the majority of Americans don't want Biden as their
- 26:38president. Just answer the question. He's got nothing to do with Trump's got
- 26:42nothing to do with anything else. Just to answer that question. I'll hang
- 26:45up and listen. Well, the majority of Americans voted for him in the
- 26:48last election you're talking about twenty twenty four. Mike, Well, we'll see,
- 26:52we'll see what the answer the poll that counts as the poll that happens
- 26:55on election. But again, and we'll have a primary. Right, Well,
- 26:59nobody's going to run. Nobody, if any substance, is going to
- 27:02run and gets Biden if anybody runs at all, you know that so far
- 27:04nobody nobody is, but you know, there could very well be a primary
- 27:07in a few people. But there's some I mean, Mike, let's go
- 27:10over this though, okay. And in the first two years, okay,
- 27:15of of of the Biden presidency, you had an the bipartisan inflation build that
- 27:19passed, something that Trump couldn't do in four years. Talked about it every
- 27:23other week, was inflation was? Sorry? Was infrastructure week? Sorry?
- 27:27I said it was infrastructure week. Was unable to pass an infrastructure bill?
- 27:32He was. Biden was able to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which you
- 27:36know, like it or not, HASH has UH resulted in a lot of
- 27:41investment here in West Virginia. Every other week you were hearing about a ribbon
- 27:45cutting or a groundbreaking on a new UH facility going into West Virginia. It's
- 27:49going to provide jobs. Uh. It's no coincidence that all this happened during
- 27:56the first two years of Biden's presidency when he had when he had democratic control
- 28:00of both houses of Congress, in the House and in the Senate, and
- 28:03they were able to pass this all these huge bills that were able to,
- 28:08and a lot of it put money directly into West Virginia. And that's what
- 28:11we're benefiting from. Right now, let's go back to the phones of Tuck
- 28:15to Jason, you're on with delegate and say Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin,
- 28:18go ahead, does that kicked the door? Pushkin? Kick the door?
- 28:23Pushkin? I've never been called up before. I think that's Caputo you're talking
- 28:27about, not Pushkin. He does is get on there and slam people.
- 28:33You know, he forgets about all the stuff that the Democrats had all these
- 28:36years to do stuff and make West Virginia grade again and never did for forty
- 28:41eight eighty three years. And then he gets on there and acts like his
- 28:45party's the one that's gonna save us. All my god, give me a
- 28:51break. All the politics is full of crap, including you, sir,
- 28:56Well, all right for your call and talking to you. I'm not known
- 29:03for kicking anything. That was That was Caputo, That wasn't you. Yeah,
- 29:07well that's a whole other story. But there was a recently, the
- 29:12Census put out, like the US Census put out a report breaking down even
- 29:18in more so the twenty twenty census, and it showed we have been losing
- 29:21people since the Republicans have been in charge of this state. It did not
- 29:25happen before while we were not growing at the same rate as other states for
- 29:30the first time. Now we're we're the state that is losing population greater than
- 29:33any other state. And a lot of this has to do with Republican policies
- 29:38that have been pumped out of the That's a bit of a stretch onto that.
- 29:41How is it a stretch? It matches up? I mean, how
- 29:44is it? I mean, yeah, there have been people leaving West Virginia,
- 29:47you know, but I mean, are you really going to point the
- 29:48finger at Republicans on this and say that they're solely responsible for it? Well,
- 29:52I would have to say it has a lot to do with their policies.
- 29:55It's been since they've been in control and passing some of these bills that
- 29:57have been just running people out of the state. And about this, A
- 30:00lot of the bills that they've tried, whether it's right to work, making
- 30:03us a right to work state, getting read or prevailing wage that that did
- 30:07not have the desired effect. It hasn't brought people to the state. When
- 30:14they were repealing prevailing ways, it said we're gonna be able to build two
- 30:17schools for the price of one. Well, we don't have to build as
- 30:19many schools because we have less people bringing their families here to live, so
- 30:25we have less schools, we have less students. At WVU, we've had
- 30:29to eliminate some of the most important programs they have up there. Their master's
- 30:33programs in elementary and secondary education have been cut because enrollments is down. Because
- 30:40we have less people in the state. We have less in state kids going
- 30:44on to the university and less less out of state kids being sent here.
- 30:48And when they pass some of these ridiculous bills, and then if a parents
- 30:52and some other state have fifty states to choose from and where to send their
- 30:55kids for college, well they're not sending them here now. And a lot
- 30:57of that has to do with some of the cowards legislation is coming out of
- 31:00that state capital under Republican control. And let me knock out some texts here
- 31:03before we go to break. Going back to the property issue that Don brought
- 31:07up, what about the airbnbs that are removing housing and driving up the price
- 31:11for residents. Can we get some legislation that will help build communities and not
- 31:15tourist traps. Yeah, I agree, but once again we're gonna have to
- 31:18have some people in office who have their priorities straight and they're not just beholden
- 31:23to somebody out of state corporate interests Texas. You know, Pushkin seems like
- 31:27a common sense guy on local issues. Then as it pertains to statewide issues,
- 31:32he starts his more liberal lean. However, when he speaks on national
- 31:34issues, has far left liberal propaganda oozes out. His take on Trump sounds
- 31:38like a CNN echo chamber. No chance he grows the West Virginia Democratic Party.
- 31:44It's not my take on Trumps. Read if you read the indictment.
- 31:48They're pretty serious charges there. And it's not wait, and it's not me
- 31:52as the not just me saying it as the chair of the West Virginia Democratic
- 31:56Party. It's a whole host of people who Trump had hired and it worked
- 32:01with in his administration. You know, Bill Barr didn't just say that that
- 32:08that, you know, Trump was a toast of half of these half of
- 32:12which in the indictment is true. He went. He said Trump does not
- 32:15have the discipline, he does not have the ability for strategic thinking and linear
- 32:20thinking or setting priorities or how to get things done in the system. It
- 32:24is a horror show. When left on, it is a horror show.
- 32:28When left to his own devices, he will deliver chaos. That's coming from
- 32:31Bill Barr, somebody that Trump chose to be his attorney general and served with
- 32:36him up until the end. The former White House Communications director A. Lisa
- 32:43Farrek Griffin said Donald Trump is wholly unfit for office and a clear and present
- 32:47danger to democracy. Those are pretty strong words, and then says the Republicans
- 32:52please take him on. That's what she says. Apparently the Republicans in West
- 32:55Virginia haven't gotten the memo on that. Chris Christie said, if we had
- 33:00a child. Chris Christie was a fairly conservative governor in New Jersey running for
- 33:05and he also led the Trump transition team after Trump was elected in twenty sixteen,
- 33:09and he said, if we had a child who conducted themselves like that,
- 33:13we'd send them to their room, not the White House. I could
- 33:15go on all right. One more text before break, Mike says A texture
- 33:20Biden kept classified documents in his unsecured garage, and when they were discovered,
- 33:24he gave them back without question. And that's that seems to be the whole
- 33:30thing with this indictment is is that he didn't give them back. The Trump
- 33:34didn't give it. Mike Pence also had had documents in his possession that he
- 33:38shouldn't have had, and when they were discovered and he was, he gave
- 33:42them back. That's the problem. But when you had a willful and intentional,
- 33:49unlawful retention of classified documents, that's the problem that Trump's gonna have,
- 33:53all right, because not just me saying it, I mean, it is
- 33:57a very serious charge. It should be taken. Gotta take Broz, We've

- 37:15how's Aaron Rodgers heading to the Jets going to impact the AFC East. Well,
- 37:19I think it's going to have a quite a great impact on the AFC
- 37:22East. I think that we could possibly win the AFCs. You know,
- 37:27the Jets have the longest playoff drought of not just of any team in the
- 37:30NFL, of any team in professional sports. Really, yes, has it
- 37:36been that long? I think there was there was a hockey team and I

- 37:42had a long drought, and but they went to the playoffs. This thing
- 37:45went to Stanley Cup playoffs this year. And yeah, the Jets have the

- 38:14want to Sarah Griffin because she was a communications director for Trump and she was
- 38:17the one that asked Republicans to take him on. What about Mike Pompeo?
- 38:22Was Mike Pompeo on the view. Mike Pompeio was Trump's secretary of State,
- 38:27and he has said we need more seriousness, less noise, and leaders who
- 38:30are looking forward, not staring in the rearview mirror claiming victimhood. Um.
- 38:36You know, I think William Barr once again, Bill Barr said that Trump
- 38:39is not the victim in this case. He likes to put himself out there
- 38:43as the victim, the victim or the h you know, men and women
- 38:46in uniform who he's putting harm's way and people who he referred to, you
- 38:52know, in a past interview when talking about his his um, you know,
- 38:59failure to answer the call when he would to get it. When he
- 39:01got out of being drafted into Vietnam, he referred to the people who went
- 39:06as chumps. This is not a patriotic man. Tex says all this talk

- 40:12the human rights of all West Virginians and all Americans. We should all be
- 40:16treated equally under the law. Tex says, the Inflation Reduction Act has kept
- 40:20inflation around longer than it should have. Scratching my head. Actually, no,
- 40:24it's it's been. It's it's slowly a little bit too slowly. But
- 40:28it has reduced inflation and it reduces actually reduces the debt. And you know,
- 40:34they call bills about a lot of different names, and back during when
- 40:37when Bush was present day, a bill that actually created allowed for more pollution
- 40:42to be called the Clear Sky's Act. So the name of a bill doesn't
- 40:45always say exactly what it's going to do. But what the Inflation Reduction Act
- 40:47did do is it put a lot of investment into West Virginia. And we're
- 40:52seeing the results of that when you see about you know, form energy or
- 40:57whether it is a new core or whether it's all the facilities we're hearing about
- 41:02every other week is sometimes a couple of times a week, these announcements we're
- 41:06hearing a lot of that is because of the investments that were made possible because
- 41:08of the Inflation Reduction Act. It's been a success. You actually asked to
- 41:14be on the show to talk about something. As I said, you reached
- 41:16out to me before the Trump and diapid You want to talk about doctor Raoul
- 41:21Gupta and his return to Charleston. Yeah, I think that that hasn't been
- 41:23talked about enough. That we have a Charleston, former Charleston resident, a
- 41:29former head of our health department here and who also went on to be the
- 41:35director of the Bureau for Public Health on the state level, who was chosen
- 41:43by President Biden to be the director of the National Office of Drug Control Policy.
- 41:47He is the drugs are for the United States of America, and he's
- 41:52from right here, and that could really be beneficial for us here knowing the
- 41:57seriousness of the drug problem that we've had in West Virginia, and we've really
- 42:01been the epicenter for this epidemic, and it's it's great that we have one
- 42:06of our own in there as part of the President's cabinet working on this.
- 42:09And he came back to visit um last week and he, you know,
- 42:15when he met with a lot of healthcare professionals, and he met a lot
- 42:17with a lot of the folks at the City of Charleston. M I do
- 42:22think it was unfortunate that there weren't enough meetings with with state leaders and namely
- 42:28the governor, and uh, this is not a political issue, should never
- 42:30be a political issue. Addiction doesn't It doesn't care whether you're a Republican or
- 42:36Democrat. It affects every single one of us here in this state. And
- 42:40it's it's a serious issue, and it takes uh, you know, serious
- 42:45minded people who want to put the issue above politics in order to have real
- 42:50solutions. And it's it's notable that on the same day that the governor made
- 42:54this announcement that he's going to send fifty troops to the southern border, was
- 43:00alls today that he canceled his uh um, the Council on then Advisory Council
- 43:07on Substance Abuse, the Governor's Council was was the meeting was canceled, that
- 43:13Director Gupta was supposed to be attending, and he still came here anyway and
- 43:16he met with Mayor Goodwin. Was that political in your in your opinion was
- 43:20that ACANA signed motives to something, but the timing was awful strange um that

- 47:00the first time without even needing to campaign. Trump being the Republican nominee again
- 47:05is the very best option again for the Democrats. Uh Textra says, I'd
- 47:08love to see RFK Junior versus A Santas in a showdown in twenty twenty four.
- 47:14I'd like to know Pushkin stots at RFK Junior. Never been a big
- 47:17fan of of of RFK Junior. He's always he's been, you know,
- 47:22really anti science his whole career, and he is absolutely nothing like his father.
- 47:29Texas in the country A three hundred and sixty one million. It's sad
- 47:31that Biden and Trump are the best we can do. Having said that I'll
- 47:35vote for Biden every time over the draft dodging adulterous buffoon, Textra says,
- 47:40and there it was waiting for someone to throw the old reliable race card,
- 47:44instantly making the Texter's argument irrelevant. You had something you wanted to bring up,
- 47:49you told me during the break there. I'm not sure. I don't.
- 47:52I think it was back talking about, like you know, politics on
- 47:59on a state, go to local level, and it recently came out.
- 48:02I think it was wallet Hub put out a report that ranks West Virginia dead
- 48:07last that says our our economy is dead last. I mean, we used
- 48:10to be able to say thank God, thank God from Mississippi. They're not
- 48:15even second to last, I believe anymore. Uh. Somehow they've found a
- 48:17way to improve, and we've found a way to get worse. And I
- 48:22think it's important to note that has all been under a Republican rule. But
- 48:25that, Mike, don't just happen overnight. No, They've happened so consistently
- 48:30since twenty fourteen, and even more so under this governor. And it's look,
- 48:37you know, I work up there in the legislature and I see how
- 48:39little, how how little we see of the governor. And when the boss
- 48:44is away, bad things happen. And that's why you have, you know,
- 48:47a jails and prisons that are so understaffed that we've had to call in
- 48:52the National Guard. And that's why we have eight thousand children in foster care.
- 48:57And we always can't seem to alleviate that problem, can't seem to pay
- 49:00state workers enough to get people to work to help these these kids. That's
- 49:05why we have a teacher shortage, and then we wind up our flagship university
- 49:08is cutting the master's program to train new teachers. That's why we've had to
- 49:14completely dissemble the largest department of state government, the DHHR, because it was
- 49:21completely dysfunctional. You know, we had to call our call up and talk
- 49:23about the paving of Washington Street. Well, let me tell you something.
- 49:27I've been getting some interesting letters from some folks over at the Division of Highways,
- 49:30and from what I'm reading, they have a completely toxic atmosphere over there
- 49:37under the leadership of put that in air. Quotes of Secretary Riston, who
- 49:42was a buddy of Jim Justice, who was put in charge of a transportation.
- 49:47Our government, our state government is not working properly right now, so
- 49:52it should be no surprise when a study like this from Wall It Hub comes
- 49:55out and puts us dead last. We know we were promised a rocket ship
- 50:00ride and uh, you know we never got off the launch pad. And
- 50:04the Democrats and this is the and this is the person who wants to represent
- 50:07us in the US Senate. He can't show up in Charleston. Is he
- 50:08ever going to show up in DC? It'll be an embarrassment have a seat
- 50:13that once belonged to Robert Byrd go to somebody like Jim Justice. He's gonna
- 50:16be the Senator in my opinion, Well, I don't. I don't think.
- 50:20So he's got a primary to get through, and then well, I
- 50:22mean, and we're not going down. I mean, I mean, let's
- 50:24face it. I mean, I mean, the polls show he does to
- 50:28Alex Mooney. I mean, and who's also you're not a fan of Alex
- 50:31Mooney either mine? He stretch of the imagination. That'd be an answering question.
- 50:35If you had to vote for one, which one would you do?
- 50:36I won't put you in that position. I'm not going to vote in the
- 50:37Republican I know. But I tell you this, Alex Mooney checks more boxes
- 50:43in a Republican primary when you're talking about just Republican primary voters. And I
- 50:47think that that poll wasn't done correctly. That pole was a pole of general
- 50:52election voters, not Republican primary voters. So I think I think it's gonna
- 50:54bean. This is not gonna be a walk in the park for Jim Justice.
- 50:59It's going to be especially with the amount of money that's going in to
- 51:01support Alex Mooney, He's not gonna do you think about match and possibly run
- 51:05for president? Um, I don't you know. He said he's gonna make
- 51:07his mind up of what he's gonna do, uh later this year, and
- 51:12I believe him. I don't think he's made his mind up, but I
- 51:15don't. I don't. Also don't think he's gonna run for president. You
- 51:17don't think you're run for president? No, I don't. When was what
- 51:22was the last third party attempt? Well, he's not gonna win. He's
- 51:24not gonna win, and he knows that if he does decide to run,
- 51:27that's not what it's about. I think whatever he does, he's gonna he's
- 51:30gonna win. And that well he said that. He said when he gets
- 51:34into race, he's gonna get in it to win it. Why else would
- 51:37you get into quote said the quote the day he put out there said whatever
- 51:39I decided to run for, I'm going to win. I don't know that
- 51:42he runs for anything at all. I'll be honest with him. I don't
- 51:45know. We'll see Mike. Always a pleasure to have you on the show,
