Transcript
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to Flourishing Fem.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I'm Marnae Boquett, and I'm so thankful that you joined me today for this 15th episode that I have created to share with you.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So we're going to just jump right in to the topic or the format or formula that I am choosing to present today for you to consider, get curious about, and at the end even choose to accept an invitation that I am going to offer.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So the flour, this is one of the flourishing femme frameworks that I hold as one of the ways to flow into flourishing femme.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So it starts with authenticity.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: So when we are able to truly embody and live from our authenticity, we move into alignment, living more in our true alignment.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And when we are able to do that, we feel more safety, which the bonus to that is that when we feel safe, we feel more regulated.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Our nervous system feels more regulated.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And what feeling that safety can lead to is us flourishing in our life.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: So let's start out with the first word: authenticity.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: We're gonna just put a statement that reflects upon art or that describes our authenticity.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And that is I am safe to be who I truly am.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Authenticity means allowing your inner experience and your outer life to become more congruent.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, so our inner experience, that's part of what we're gonna really reflect on today because my inner experience was definitely not allowing me to be um congruent with what I was truly feeling and what I was experiencing inside.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Now, here's the caveat on this is a lot of times our inner experience, if we're congruent, or if we are uh congruent with our inner experience and our outer life, sometimes that can be pretty crazy because our inner experience can be pretty chaotic and it can have lots of you know, your mind can just be running amok, and therefore you're saying, okay, well, this is my inner experience.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And so that's why I start with this because there's so many ways that we can begin to discover and reflect upon what is my inner experience, and what am I doing to um either press it down or react to my inner experience or treat other people according to my inner experience and even do my life according to an inner experience that is not creating the life that I want.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: So I'm definitely not flourishing because of what is happening within me.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: And so the authenticity, again, allowing your inner experience and your outer life to become more congruent, which means we do want our inner experience to become more full of thoughts that support our truth as far as who we really are, that support and enhance our worth and our value and our joy and our ability to stay in gratitude and really know who we are and what our divine heritage is and our divine um blueprint, and you know, and those are all kinds of some words that we're you're maybe not familiar with right now, but I'm going to expand on those types of things.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: So review again: authenticity.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I am safe to be who I truly am.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, notice those words who I truly am.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: A lot of times we have beliefs about ourselves that are not our truth.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Those kinds of beliefs like I'm not good enough, I'm unworthy, I don't matter.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And and we create those beliefs at a very young age.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And sometimes those beliefs are handed down generationally, and so we're gonna really delve into this, and I'm I'm gonna keep it as simple as I possibly can because this can go pretty deep and wide.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: So we have a filter that creates a belief as far as who we are as we have experienced our earthly life experiences.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: And our filter that creates that is divided into four parts.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Our filter is made up from what we have handed down to us from our DNA, from our mom's DNA and our dad's DNA.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: That's very impactful upon our filter, which is a very interesting thing to come to understand because it can teach us a lot about thoughts and beliefs that we have about ourselves that are just truly not who we are.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Um, so imagine a circle divided into four quadrants.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: So one quadrant is our DNA influences our filter.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Um, the next quadrant is our birth process.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm gonna go into this a little bit deeper in some other podcasts as well.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: But we we start developing a lot of truth as far as who we are from our birth process.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: So let's say I'm gonna give you just a small quick example.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Let's say that during the birth process, you were stuck in the birth canal.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And you were able to, we you were unable to move forward.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: And so there was, you know, an emergency process that had to take place to actually get you out of the birth canal, you know, forceps, that kind of thing.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: And you started right then to develop this belief that I'm stuck, I can't move forward.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I I am feeling held back.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: So that's just a really super simple idea of the kinds of beliefs you can start to develop right at birth.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: The next quadrant is that that really highly develops thoughts that you have about yourself or beliefs that you have about yourself is your childhood.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So um you've got situations where perhaps something happened and you started to develop this.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: I don't, I don't matter here.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: I'm it's not safe for me to be seen.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: And I just am to be heard and or to be seen and not heard.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: So I'll give you a little example about my life, youngest daughter, five older brothers.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Um I developed really quickly that it wasn't safe for me to speak up.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Um, that I was definitely to be seen and not heard, because a lot of times I would find myself being either talked down to, talked at, or talked over.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times when I would say something, um what I said uh was poo-pooed or made fun of or crit, you know, criticized, or just completely ignored.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So that's just a small example of how you can start developing beliefs about yourself.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: And so, okay, let's review again.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: One qu one quadrant of your filter filter is developed or is um established by your DNA, what's handed down through the DNA, and patterns and beliefs that can be handed down that way.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Your birth process, then your childhood, and then the fourth quadrant is society, culture, and religion.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: And just a real quick little example in that one is I I believed, and it wasn't that I don't think my parents really vocally said this to me that I can precisely remember, but from some of my religious teachings, I believed that I had to be perfect in order to experience God's love.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Really, really difficult one right there, because you know, none of us are perfect, right?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So therefore, how could God love me?
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: And so those are just some ideas, okay?
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: So this is why it's really important for us to do our own inner work to live authentically, because we want to find those beliefs about who we are that are not our truth, that we're that we established from hard experiences in our childhood and maybe even in our birth process, or that your ancestors had through their earth life experiences.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Um, I will give you an example of one that I experienced that I do know for a fact was handed down through my DNA.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: So um I was born at a time and space within my family where my family, my my father was was, you know, doing a lot better financially, and my home was pretty affluent at that time.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, at that point in my life growing up, I I don't ever remember going without or, you know, not being able to have special treats or um getting what I wanted for the most part, as far as the clothes that I wanted to wear to school or a new bicycle for my birthday or that kind of stuff.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: And um, but I do remember a time in my life when things that would come to my mind were things like there's never enough, there's not enough money.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: There's I have to save every penny that I have.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Money doesn't grow on trees.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, you have to work so hard for every dime that you make.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: I was like, where is this coming from?
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: This did not come from my childhood.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: And then it was like, oh, okay.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: So both my parents grew up in the depression.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: They were both very, very poor growing up.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: And I was like, aha.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: I know that this where this, I know now where these kinds of thoughts were coming from.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: And of course, they didn't manifest themselves until I started making my own money, and especially after I got married, and we, you know, started to have to pay bills and earn money to make it possible for us to put food on the table and that kind of stuff.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: So back to the word authenticity.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Authenticity.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I am safe to be who I truly am.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Authenticity means allowing your inner experience and your outer life to become congruent in a very positive way that can create the next step, which is alignment, alignment with my truth.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: So authenticity moves into alignment.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Well, I was truly allowing my inner experience and my outer life to be congruent, because my inner experience at that time, as far as the whole money thing, yeah, when I had those beliefs running, my outer can experience did come to be congruent because I started to notice that my thoughts were creating my experience.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I was started to manifest, yep, there is never enough.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: And that because of that belief that I had about myself, that I had to work hard and work overtime and do more and be more to make more money.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Well, that became my truth for sure in that moment.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: And so, but here's the net, here's the here's the kicker right here is authenticity moves into alignment.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: And I I can't say that I was truly in alignment, but it it I was congruent in with my inner experience and my outer experience.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: That brings safety.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Is I was not feeling safe at all in those beliefs and in my experiences.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: And that did not create a feeling or an experience of flourishing.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: So let's review this.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Authenticity of your truth moves you into alignment.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Alignment then creates safety.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: And safety creates an experience of flourishing.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Take a breath and just breathe into that.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Let that land.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna review it again.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Authenticity means allowing your inner experience and your outer life to become congruent.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, then that means you move into alignment.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: And if you are authentic and in alignment, you experience safety.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: And when you experience that safety, you flourish.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: So authenticity.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna talk a little bit about that a little bit more.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So in my life, where I wasn't authentic is where I was always concerned about who do I need to be?
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: What does everyone expect of me?
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: And I have to hold everything together in order to be loved, in order to experience acceptance.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: So that isn't my authenticity.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: It's more who am I being for everyone else?
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Who am I being to what am I doing that is not in alignment or in alignment with my authenticity?
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Who am I being to feel acceptance to be seen as competent or worthy or uh okay even.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: So I experienced this in my life too, and I'm gonna give live give a little experience about this.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: Growing up, my mom experienced headaches all the time.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: And so when I would wake up in the morning, I remember as a little girl thinking, oh, I wonder if my mom has a headache today.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: I better go ask her because if I knew she had a headache, I wouldn't know how my day would go.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: If she didn't have a headache, I knew how my day could go in a different way.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Because I was always very hyper-vigilant on, okay, what do I need to do?
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Who do I need to be so I for sure don't cause my mom a headache today?
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Um, what is so that was the who do I need to be today so I don't cause my mom to have a headache?
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Which led into the okay, then that means I need to be perfect, I need to be perfectly obedient, I gotta do everything that she says, I can't rebel against anything or be um, I gotta be right on task.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: And so then here's the next one.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: What does everyone expect of me?
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: So if I found out that she did have a headache, then it was like, okay, what's expected of me so that I don't cause her more pain.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: And um definitely if I had a concern or if I was hurting, or if um something was bothering me, I did not get to talk about it, especially on the day she had a headache.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: So I have to hold in everything and hold everything together.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Primarily, I had to hold it all together so that my mom either didn't get a headache or that I didn't cause her headache to be worse.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: So that was that was, I was not in any way, shape, or form living from my authenticity because I was more concerned about everything I believed that I had to do, that I was supposed to do, that I needed to do.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And my a lot of times my desires or my wants or my concerns were not even considered.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm not blaming my mother.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: This isn't about blaming other people.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: It's it's what I chose to create in my head that I literally began to start to live from.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: So authenticity means allowing your inner experience and your outer life to become more congruent instead of who do I need to be?
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: What does everyone expect from me?
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: How in what ways do I have to hold everything together so that everyone is else is happy or um safe or whatever?
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: So what it starts to look like is more what is true for me?
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: How do I actually feel?
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: What types of things do I really desire?
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: And what would feel in alignment to me?
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: So psychologically, greater authenticity is associated with a greater well-being.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: And a spiritual interpretation of that can be coming home to yourself.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: So alignment can be a direct reflection of authenticity.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So my life begins to reflect my truth.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, so basically, in order for us to um embody or step into or let land, that flow that I'm presenting of authenticity moves you into your authenticity moves you into alignment, which then you can experience safety, and that flow moves you into flourishing.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: So that's the framework that I'm wanting to really um help land with you today.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: So that means we get to really become reflective of thoughts and beliefs that we have about ourselves that don't feel good.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: That don't feel joyful, that don't feel um like it bring that belief brings joy, that belief or thought brings a feeling of safety, or that that thought and belief doesn't bring a good emotion.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, so with that, let's do a little experiment.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: When I have a belief that I don't matter, what emotion does that bring to me?
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: And so I have that belief, I don't matter.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna run it to my through my filter that I just explained previously, which is your reticular activator system.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna run that through that filter of mine, which is as unique to me as my thumbprint, because nobody else has my same DNA makeup, nobody else had a birth process just like me, nobody else had a childhood like me, and nobody had a religious background and a community and a culture and a society just exactly like mine.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, so when I have that belief, what emotion do I experience?
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Well, when I had that belief that I don't matter, or what that I say doesn't matter, i.e., going back to my experience with five older brothers, how does that feel?
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: What emotion does that create in my body?
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Created a lot of shame, created a lot of grief, and it created also a lot of fear within me because then I became very hyper-vigilant about what I said.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Like, does what I say really matter?
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: So that is why our inner work is so important, because it we want to find out where we are believing things about ourselves or having thoughts that are not really congruent with our truth.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Because the truth is, is what I what I do say matters, and when I believe that about myself, then I feel more confident and I feel more um literally able to speak up for myself and I feel heard, and then that allows me to be more expressive in what is going on in my mind, and that people take me serious and that I have validity.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, so with that, we are going to stop right there today, and my invitation to you is if I'm feeling an uncomfortable emotion, what belief am I having about myself that could be creating that?
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: And I can give you a lot of different ideas, and then you can take it even one step further and say, when was the first time I remember having that thought about myself?
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, so here we go.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Here's some ideas.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: What I say doesn't matter, very similar to mine.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: I'm to be seen and not heard.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the questions of okay, I need to not ever do anything wrong, never make a mistake, and be perfect in order for God to love me.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Ooh, that was one that hit me so hard in my early 20s.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Because when I discovered that I had that thought and that belief about myself that I had to be perfect in order to be lovable, shattered my world because I was trying to be perfect for all my brothers, for my mom and my dad, and now my husband that I was married to.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: And then I woke up to the fact that holy cow, each one of them have a different perception of what perfect is.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: That put me into a state of hopelessness, and so I really got to uh look at that belief and how it affected me and the feelings that I had when I had that belief, and then challenge that belief.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Is that really true?
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: That I have to be perfect in order to be lovable.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I really got to challenge that belief, and since I have done that, I'll tell you what, my ability to stay in authenticity has absolutely blossomed.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Just a lot, substantially, because I shifted that belief about myself.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: And I, but I got to do that by doing my own inner work clear back when I was in my early twenties.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: So that is the invitation, is noticing when you feel an emotion of grief, uh, sadness, shame, fear, and see if you can connect it with a belief about yourself.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Because we're work we're working on your identity right here at this point, your worth and your value.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: And your worth is uncalculatable.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: Your your worth and your value is not even measurable.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: That's because who we are and the truth of who we are is that we are divine beings of light, and that our heritage is divine, our our worth is divine, our identity is divine, and so this is the challenge, or this is the invitation.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: Let's X out that word challenge.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: Some people have triggers to that word.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: So here's the invitation for you to get curious about noticing beliefs that you have about yourself that cause you to feel a really heavy, uncomfortable emotion.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Now, it might feel really familiar, and that's different.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: It's a very uncomfortable emotion that you then have to do something to try to cope with that emotion.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: And that might look like oh coping by eating, coping by escaping, scrolling on your phone, coping by um wanting to just escape and go watch a movie.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: And not that those things are bad or wrong, it's just why am I doing this?
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: How am I coping with my uncomfortable emotion?
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: And then you know, oh man, I could do some reflection and say, what am I believing about myself right now?
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: If you're not feeling more joy and um even safe or content or calm or peaceful, if you're not feeling those things, it probably means 99% of the time, it probably means you're having you are experiencing thoughts and beliefs about yourself that are not in alignment with your truth.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: So make a list of beliefs that you have about yourself that are super uncomfortable and causing an emotion that feels like you really need to escape or cope with just because it's so uncomfortable to have that emotion of fear or shame or guilt or grief.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: And just start taking note of that, and then you can ask yourself, what would I rather believe about myself?
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: Would I rather believe?
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: And the way that I did that with that specific belief that I had to be perfect in order to be lovable, is no one's perfect, no one on this planet is perfect, and therefore I can be imperfect and still be very lovable because the way I challenge that was there are so many people out there that I love dearly, and I know for a fact they're not perfect, and I love them so much.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: So that is my invitation for today, and as you do that, journal about it a bit, write it down, and for sure after you do, write down what you would rather believe about yourself and how you could imagine that make you that allowing you to feel as far and of it as far as an emotion.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: So it's okay for me to be imperfect.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Everyone else on this planet is imperfect.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: I may not know about their imperfections, but I know everyone on this planet is imperfect, and besides, perfect is a matter of perception.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: I knew when I thought about each one of my brothers, my mom, my dad, my husband, it's like I know every single one of them is gonna have a different answer if I were to ask them, what does being perfect mean to you?
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: So anyway, perception's a huge thing.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Everybody's perception could have, and I know would have been a little different, if not drastically different.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: So here with this invitation, just write it down, jot it down, jot down the the belief, the emotion, and then how you choose to cope with it.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: So let's review one again.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: I feel not good enough.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: How does that make you feel?
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: Fearful, full of shame, and maybe even a little bit of grief.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: And so, how do you cope with it?
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: There's lots of different ways to cope.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe uh you go have a drink and escape into your phone and scroll.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: Maybe you uh just work harder.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Put more lists in front of yourself that if I can just accomplish more, then I'll be good enough.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: If I can do more, then I'll be good enough.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: So maybe the way you cope is by making more lists, putting more demands on yourself.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: This is all really good information because you can't change something that you don't know and you haven't become aware about, uh aware about or discovered about yourself.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, so and always remember, please write down what you would rather believe about yourself and what you emotion you would rather feel.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: So this is what I do in my work.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: This is this is what I've done for 28 years is assist people in recognizing these patterns and choosing to shift them.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: And there's a process that I do called rapid eye technology that can actually help change that pretty quickly at the cellular level.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: So here's the invitation, the last invitation for this podcast.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: I would invite you to get on my website, awakenedacademy.io, and make an appointment for an introductory personal alignment discovery session with me.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: I would love to get to know you.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: I would like to know more about your life and your story and where you're at on your progression of working, of being more authentic and in alignment and feeling more safe and thus flourishing.
