- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Well, I'm feeling the year
- 0:08Speaker 1: winding down ever so closely as the hours ticked down
- 0:12Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, and that reminds me to say, one
- 0:15Speaker 1: leg Up Alex in twenty twenty six. That's gonna be
- 0:18Speaker 1: the new slogan. It's rhyming, it works. One leg Up
- 0:21Speaker 1: Alex in twenty twenty six, where we'll continue to have
- 0:25Speaker 1: one lug up on life and world will always be adapting.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Maybe get us in radio as well. We'll have to
- 0:31Speaker 1: see how that goes now. The biggest win for this
- 0:36Speaker 1: podcast this year had to be on July sixteenth, twenty
- 0:43Speaker 1: twenty five, when, after weeks of classes and weeks of
- 0:48Speaker 1: preparation and weeks of writing a pitch thanks to Gabby,
- 0:53Speaker 1: thanks to my dad Vic, thanks to Mom, and the
- 0:58Speaker 1: encouragement of Ryan and Matt's say Bolan lou Terminello, the
- 1:01Speaker 1: whole crew winning idea spark was the spark that set
- 1:06Speaker 1: off an entirely different year to end twenty twenty five.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean it was like two parts of a year
- 1:15Speaker 1: because that win inspire me to keep going with the
- 1:19Speaker 1: affiliate sponsorships. That win inspire me to grow in a
- 1:25Speaker 1: personal level. That win of that grant also, I think
- 1:30Speaker 1: opened the door to the Mike Gallagher Show, because when
- 1:33Speaker 1: God sees that you're taking care of yourself, other doors
- 1:36Speaker 1: will open along the way. And I truly felt that.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I truly felt that this whole year, and so the
- 1:47Speaker 1: moment of the year for me was Winning Idea Spark
- 1:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. That set this podcast up to be
- 1:56Speaker 1: self reliant, to be ready to go, to continue growing
- 2:03Speaker 1: and continue really branching out doing online radio streaming, hopefully
- 2:09Speaker 1: taking that method and putting onto radio here in New York. Later,
- 2:14Speaker 1: i'll air for you what happened last night with the
- 2:17Speaker 1: Arthur Dalla Power. Matt Sambol and I guest hosted, and
- 2:20Speaker 1: we have Frank Morano on Frank Hat's Councilman. Frank Morano
- 2:23Speaker 1: had some really kind words about the show that I
- 2:26Speaker 1: want to talk about as well. But no, Winning Idea
- 2:29Speaker 1: Spark set the spark for individuating from things, for living life,
- 2:38Speaker 1: for just coming into my own to end to the
- 2:44Speaker 1: rest of twenty twenty five, That's what I felt like
- 2:47Speaker 1: it did. And yet there are still unfinished business that
- 2:54Speaker 1: I want to talk about today because I talk about
- 3:01Speaker 1: in that Idea Spark pitch, I have to say I
- 3:05Speaker 1: talked about how I want to bring more awareness and
- 3:09Speaker 1: more of that awareness campaign and more visibility and more
- 3:15Speaker 1: accessibility to the disabled community for different companies. Well that
- 3:19Speaker 1: includes of course the MTA. Did you know the MTA
- 3:23Speaker 1: has an accessibility newsletter which I had forgotten about signing
- 3:27Speaker 1: up four months ago, But they do. The MTA has
- 3:31Speaker 1: an accessibility newsletter and they just published their last newsletter
- 3:35Speaker 1: of twenty twenty five. And on the adapting front, I
- 3:38Speaker 1: have to say, despite the issues I saw traveling with
- 3:44Speaker 1: Gabby this year, they sound hopeful to bring in twenty
- 3:48Speaker 1: twenty six MTA accessibility. They write, wishes you all warm
- 3:52Speaker 1: and joyful holidays and a happy new year. The projects
- 3:56Speaker 1: and goals we achieved in twenty twenty five are possible
- 3:59Speaker 1: because of collaboration among advocates, organizational partners, and departments and
- 4:04Speaker 1: divisions across the MTA. Your support and efforts have been essential,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and we are grateful for your role in our progress.
- 4:11Speaker 1: We have done so much in twenty twenty five and
- 4:14Speaker 1: are excited to continue sharing our updates with you in
- 4:17Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. Read on for updates on new accessibility
- 4:21Speaker 1: and accessible elevators. I should say congestion pricing funded subway
- 4:25Speaker 1: projects access Ride and more. Church Avenue now has an
- 4:31Speaker 1: accessibility upgrade including two new street to platform elevators, two
- 4:38Speaker 1: new stairways, a new farewayway, a new transfer bridge, and
- 4:42Speaker 1: a new boarding area with tactile edge strips. This one
- 4:46Speaker 1: was interesting. The subway projects that were funded by congestion
- 4:53Speaker 1: pricing include contracts that provide accessibility upgrades at five subway
- 4:59Speaker 1: stations across Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. My home station, Parsons
- 5:05Speaker 1: Boulevard getting upgrade this year. I've seen the construction whenever
- 5:09Speaker 1: I go back to Queens. It is intense. It is
- 5:11Speaker 1: pretty narrow the way they've closed off a lot of
- 5:14Speaker 1: that upper platform or upper tier you know before you
- 5:19Speaker 1: go down to the platform that upstairs there. But it
- 5:23Speaker 1: is in the name of accessibility, I guess. So Parsons Boulevard, Briarwood,
- 5:28Speaker 1: Queens Gates Avenue, Brian Park getting upgrade and Fifth Avenue
- 5:32Speaker 1: the seven train get upgrade as well starting in twenty
- 5:37Speaker 1: twenty six. So there's going to be a huge construction
- 5:40Speaker 1: projects on those stations as well. If you didn't know already.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Starting January twenty twenty. At January one, twenty twenty six,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you'll not be able to buy or reload a Metro card,
- 5:51Speaker 1: Omni cards, maybe purchase an omni vending machines or a
- 5:54Speaker 1: customer service centers. You can also tap your contact list,
- 5:58Speaker 1: credit or debit card, and of course, of course to
- 6:07Speaker 1: enroll in the Reduce Fair program, you can always go
- 6:10Speaker 1: to three Stone Street. They pretty much know me. They're
- 6:12Speaker 1: in person whenever I lost my Metro card over the years,
- 6:16Speaker 1: so it's going to see them still helping out those
- 6:18Speaker 1: disabilities and those with the half fair needs three Stone
- 6:23Speaker 1: Street in Lower Manhattan and Customer Service Subways centers at
- 6:27Speaker 1: select subway stations. The Reduced Fair Omni card is simple
- 6:32Speaker 1: and easy to use, though we recommend using up all
- 6:35Speaker 1: the remaining value on your Metro card before tapping your
- 6:38Speaker 1: new Omni card. Now, this one, this one's vital because
- 6:43Speaker 1: I know a lot of people that use accessor Ride
- 6:45Speaker 1: and I just want to share this as an awareness campaign. Here,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I wanly up Alex the MTA says, joined accessor Ride
- 6:52Speaker 1: for an informative virtual session reviewing everything you need to
- 6:56Speaker 1: know about booking AAR trips via my AAR and the
- 7:01Speaker 1: aar Omni card. Starting January thirteenth, Zoom sessions will be
- 7:05Speaker 1: held twice a week on Tuesdays at two pm and
- 7:08Speaker 1: Thursdays at eleven am. That's twice a week, two days
- 7:11Speaker 1: at two pm Thursday at eleven am. Aar accessor Ride
- 7:15Speaker 1: now has tutorials on how to use my ar an
- 7:18Speaker 1: aar Omni card. In addition, they encourage you to sign
- 7:25Speaker 1: up for the on the Move newsletter to be sure
- 7:27Speaker 1: you have your account updated with a valid email address.
- 7:31Speaker 1: If you don't have an email address, consider sharing one
- 7:33Speaker 1: for of a trusted family member or friend who will
- 7:36Speaker 1: allure you to these communications. MTA Accessibility offers information about
- 7:43Speaker 1: the MTS accessibility programs and initiatives to disability organizations and
- 7:47Speaker 1: groups dedicated to providing customers with comprehensive and up to
- 7:51Speaker 1: date information about the agency's accessibility initiatives and services. If
- 7:58Speaker 1: you have an event that you'd like to that you
- 8:01Speaker 1: think would be a good good opportunity to collaborate with
- 8:03Speaker 1: the MTA Accessibility, email us Accessibility at MTAHQ dot org.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That's accessibility at MTAHQ dot org. Or fill out a
- 8:15Speaker 1: meeting request form. Now I think I might want to
- 8:19Speaker 1: try that. Email me Alex and Alexianwest dot com. Should
- 8:23Speaker 1: we arrange meeting with the MTA to see how we
- 8:27Speaker 1: can further accessibility in twenty twenty six with the current
- 8:32Speaker 1: leadership that's taking office on the city level and on
- 8:36Speaker 1: the state level, and how MTA Accessibility and one leg
- 8:43Speaker 1: up Alex can truly be a champion for accessibility here
- 8:46Speaker 1: in New York. That's the whole point, is to be
- 8:48Speaker 1: that accessibility champion. And so as much as we've talked
- 8:54Speaker 1: about affordability the last half of the year, the accessibility
- 8:57Speaker 1: bug always bites us and we need to be prepare
- 9:00Speaker 1: for that. We need to be prepared. Why do they
- 9:03Speaker 1: lock the doors for more than fifteen seconds while ferravators
- 9:06Speaker 1: get it easily. It's got to be an easier way
- 9:08Speaker 1: for people with disabilities to even get into the subway stations.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Maybe we should have a meeting with them and highlight
- 9:14Speaker 1: that for you on the one look up Alex network.
- 9:17Speaker 1: We'll have to see, but there you go if you
- 9:23Speaker 1: want to reach the Accessibility office, Accessibility at MTAHQ dot org,
- 9:30Speaker 1: Accessibility at MTA HQ dot org. And I have to say,
- 9:41Speaker 1: just everybody that's coming to my sphere this whole entire
- 9:44Speaker 1: year to come alongside the accessibility and adaptability and just
- 9:52Speaker 1: the one look up Alex sphere has meant a lot
- 9:58Speaker 1: to me, and I value each friendship that has strengthened
- 10:03Speaker 1: this whole year. And there have been times where I take,
- 10:09Speaker 1: you know, podcast guests and tournament to great friends. Sherry
- 10:14Speaker 1: is no exception, and then you got l and Kay
- 10:17Speaker 1: and all those guys in the Yankees community, in the
- 10:20Speaker 1: running community too. I mean, there's just been quite a
- 10:23Speaker 1: second half of the year and I have finally felt
- 10:29Speaker 1: like I'm growing up a little bit, so there can
- 10:37Speaker 1: be a one leg Up Alex in twenty twenty six.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But we'll talk to you before the new year, hits.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I promise you that here on the one lig Up
- 10:45Speaker 1: Network
