- 0:20Your neighborhood technical service station welcomes you to another baseball broadcast brought to you direct from Comiskey Park.
- 0:25Today's game is between the Chicago White Sox and the Washington Senators.
- 0:29And now after Comiskey Park and Harold Cotton, who is going to interview one or more of your favorite players, that's from the playing field.
- 0:34Stay away, Harold Cotton.
- 0:36Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:38Good afternoon from Comiskey Park, the home of the White Sox at Chicago, where we take the air from the field.
- 0:43But in midst of one of the dog-wondrous demonstrations we've ever seen at a ballpark, and what a thrill it is all the way through.
- 0:50It's Lions Day, you know, the International Lions Expo... Expo... Position... What is it anyway?
- 0:56They're having a big gathering here this week, and it's Lions Day out here at Comiskey Park.
- 1:02Bands from all over the United States are here parading around the field.
- 1:06The band from Monash, Wisconsin, the high school championship band, has formed the letter W out of the outfield back of second base,
- 1:13and their cadet-grade trousers and blue jackets and the white pom-poms.
- 1:21A marvelous band right in front of us now is the Plandro band, all decked out in red coats and white trousers.
- 1:27And all these bands, a good many of the members of the band are girls.
- 1:31The Michigan band, we're from Benton Harbor, paraded the field just a moment ago.
- 1:36A whole Florida delegation, which came in in an automobile train of 47 cars,
- 1:43has gathered a few of them right here, but a whole bunch of them over back of the first baseline,
- 1:47including one fellow that weighs at least 500 pounds more than me, wearing a bathing trunks.
- 1:53And thank you, thank you very much.
- 1:56From Lakeland, Florida, hey, we've got some matches for all the way to Florida.
- 2:00Okay, that's fine.
- 2:02The band right here now is spread out all the way from here to dugout down at the end of the left field line,
- 2:12and somebody's firing off blank cartridges in the grandstand.
- 2:17The Florida delegation, all their cars were yellow and they're wearing these yellow sun helmets,
- 2:22and it's really something worth looking at.
- 2:24Incidentally, all around here...
- 2:26Yeah, I knew Dixie's a lion. So am I.
- 2:30Sure, we're all lions. I think I've won four different clubs.
- 2:37Did you? Well, Dixie's very proud to be a lion. I know that.
- 2:42And where are you from?
- 2:44Chicago, Uptown Lions.
- 2:46I think that's where I first was made a lion, in Uptown Lions.
- 2:49I went up there and made a speech about, oh, ten years ago.
- 2:52Well, I just started a year ago to make speeches.
- 2:55I see.
- 2:56And we organized an auxiliary up there last fall, and out of that I conducted a breakfast for 1,200 lionists.
- 3:01Oh, that's marvelous. Dixie came out, huh?
- 3:04Dixie Walker, the pitcher, Dixie Sewell, and we had the noisy one...
- 3:10Mr. Benura?
- 3:11Mr. Benura up there this morning.
- 3:12I still want to wake me. I had the halfling with me. He went on the air.
- 3:15He said he was supposed to go there for breakfast, too, but he couldn't make it. Another Southern boy, you know.
- 3:19Another Southern boy.
- 3:20So you know how they like breakfast?
- 3:21Well, we kidded Zeke Benura this morning and told him that he was a bachelor and that he had a girl.
- 3:26And everybody wondered who his girlfriend was, and when I told him that it was his mother,
- 3:29you should have seen him and you should have seen the women. They just went wild.
- 3:32He was afraid you were going to give something away.
- 3:36Incidentally, ladies and gentlemen, it's sort of...
- 3:39Uh-oh, here's the cowboys out here now with their blank cartridges.
- 3:43And it's a Wisconsin day out here also. I was talking to George Dobbins of Wile Wagle, Wisconsin.
- 3:49That is a good word to pronounce. He's past just a governor there.
- 3:52And among other things, they brought some souvenir boxes of cheese down here, you know, up there in Wisconsin.
- 4:00They produce a million pounds of cheese a day, about 57-and-a-half percent of the cheese produced in the entire country.
- 4:07And they're down here helping to celebrate that.
- 4:10The Wisconsin band is coming off the field now, marching into the outfield, led by two very charming young ladies.
- 4:23Two very charming young ladies are leading the band in here, and followed by a man leader.
- 4:30I want to introduce Frank at that, Frank Fertz of Milwaukee.
- 4:34I understand you're going to be the next international president.
- 4:36Well, I might start that. Hell yeah.
- 4:38Do you buy stuff from this year?
- 4:39I first buy stuff.
- 4:40What kind of convention do you have in?
- 4:41All the hell in the marbles has been.
- 4:42How many people are there as far as today?
- 4:44All the most advanced in South Carolina.
- 4:46I know.
- 4:47You just talked about business in the whole of Alaska, here in Hawaii, in Alaska, and all of the rest of the world.
- 4:51Yeah, that's marvelous. I think you're putting on one of the finest shows I ever saw put on in a ballpark.
- 4:56Thank you.
- 4:57And one thing I like to start with the ballpark is while they launch their fielding practice on the grid, and they said,
- 5:02well, go to fun hell, all the noise around.
- 5:04Well, all the way the talk's been going, they don't need much fielding practice, I guess.
- 5:07Hey, your club up in Milwaukee took a couple of bumps lately. We've got to do something about that.
- 5:11Well, all right.
- 5:12You take on our good players and put them in the big leagues, though.
- 5:14Yeah, that's right. They had a great club last year, and they're all doing well up here.
- 5:17Yeah, they're all running yards and yards and all the rest of it.
- 5:21Frank, I've been wanting to say a little to you and congratulate you on your...
- 5:23When do you get elected? Tomorrow?
- 5:25Friday noon.
- 5:26Friday noon.
- 5:27Nothing goes wrong.
- 5:28Nothing goes wrong.
- 5:29Well, there's no traps or eyes.
- 5:30No bad luck.
- 5:31No bad luck.
- 5:32Okay, Frank, thank you a lot for saying hello.
- 5:34Now, here's Clint Brown. He's gone movie-carma mad now.
- 5:38He's coming around here.
- 5:40Clint, how long did you hold off before you started going for this movie business?
- 5:44Oh, a long time.
- 5:45Is today your first day at it?
- 5:47Yes, first day at it. First day at it.
- 5:49Well, you probably broke...
- 5:50I got it yesterday, so I want to get it back.
- 5:52You've broken already.
- 5:53You've broken already.
- 5:54The two managers, Bucky Harris and Jimmy Dykes, are being presented by Mr. Dyer and Dobbins
- 6:01with the souvenir boxes of cheese out there with the Wisconsin band in the background to pull in the picture.
- 6:09And the South Florida delegation is still grouped all over the place.
- 6:13And the flandreau band over here with a fellow in an Indian costume is still playing off the back of us while we try to do some more.
- 6:23They are announcing now that the presentation of the cheese is being made.
- 6:31Incidentally, I got the other one.
- 6:34I got me a little souvenir today.
- 6:37The players really didn't get much in the way of practice on account of all this excitement.
- 6:42I almost wish I was upstairs where George is where you could really see it and not be right down in the middle of it where we are
- 6:48because half the time you can't see everybody crowds around.
- 6:51But that's all.
- 6:52Hello, Luke. How'd you make out this noon? All right?
- 6:54I'm kind of a lousy referee.
- 6:57You're a bad referee?
- 6:58The guy called me.
- 6:59Oh, you missed one and they called you.
- 7:01Luke Affleck. You put him down to be a referee on Charlie Lyons show today.
- 7:05Here are the...they gave me one.
- 7:07Thank you, Frank.
- 7:08Thank you, Frank. Very much.
- 7:10Huh?
- 7:12We gave him...we got an extra pack.
- 7:14All right, I'll take it up to George.
- 7:16That's all right with you.
- 7:18Or do you want it to go through one of the other boys?
- 7:20There are four others up there, so you may take one if you're going to have a fight on your hands.
- 7:25Well, we'll take it up and ask them, Luke.
- 7:30I'll be willing to pass them around for you.
- 7:32Yes, sir, absolutely.
- 7:34That's right. Okay.
- 7:37It's been in Wisconsin. I told them all about it.
- 7:41Here are the lineups for today, ladies and gentlemen, for Washington, Almeda Center,
- 7:47Lewis 3rd, Travis Short, Simmons Left, Stone Wright, Cool 1st, Meyer 2nd,
- 7:59Rick Farrell Catching, and Deshawn Pitching, or the White Sox, Hayes 2nd, Kravitz Center, Walker Right,
- 8:09Benura 1st, Radford Left, Appling Short, Berger 3rd, Cool Catching, and Dietrich will do the pitching.
- 8:22When we get upstairs, we'll find out just how the umpires work.
- 8:25More firework. Boy, boy, what's a lot of fun.
- 8:27Well, everybody's starting up in the stands now, and I don't know whether it's safe for me to come up there.
- 8:32George, are they shooting up that way or are they just shooting?
- 8:35Anyway, I think that we've had enough excitement for the moment.
- 8:39Everybody's filing into the stands. It was a grand show.
- 8:42And now the White Sox and the Senators are going to put on a show that they hope will be just as good for them.
- 8:47And now, George, I'm going to start upstairs.
- 8:49Looks like I'm going to have quite a few people to get through because there must be a good, oh, I would say 12,000 people
- 8:54in this ballgame today, which is a terrific call for midweek.
- 8:58And it's cash, too. Cash on the line, my friend.
- 9:01So now, if you'll do a little pitching in the studio, I'll start upstairs.
- 9:06That's it. Righto.

- 10:02And now to give Hal Totten a chance to get up those of the booth out of the Smithske Park for this afternoon's ballgame
- 10:06between the Chicago White Sox and the Washington Senators.
- 10:08We'll give you the schedule of the other games to be played in the major leagues together
- 10:11with what sporting information we have time for.
- 10:14Taking first the National League, the Cubs are in Philadelphia today playing a doubleheader against the Phillies.
- 10:19They won the first game today, 4-1, with four runs, 10 hits, and one error.
- 10:22To the Phillies, one run, eight hits, and no errors.
- 10:24With Lee and Harkness, the Cubs battered for the entire game, and for the Phillies, Johnson and Gray.
- 10:29In that game, Collins had a home run in the first inning, and Camille of the Phillies had one run,
- 10:33a home run in the ninth inning to make the only tally for the Phillies in the first game.
- 10:37The second game has not started yet, but will start in about 15 minutes.
- 10:40In Brooklyn, the Dodgers are taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates and lead the Pirates
- 10:43at the end of the first half of the second inning, one to nothing, with dominant side, the Pirate battery.
- 10:47And for the leading Dodgers, Jeff Cote and Spencer.
- 10:50In New York, the Giants entertain the Cincinnati Reds at the end of the first inning.
- 10:53It's a scoreless tie between the Giants and Reds, nothing to nothing, with Hollingsworth and Davis, the Reds battered,
- 10:57for the Giants, Castleman and Dannings.
- 10:59In Boston, the Bees are playing a doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals.
- 11:03At the end of the ninth inning, the score is tied at one-and-one between the Cardinals and the Bees,
- 11:07with Blake and Owen, the Cardinal batter, for the Bees, Sethe, and Miller.
- 11:11And now in the American League, in St. Louis, the Browns will take on the New York Yankees again this afternoon,
- 11:15and the game will be played because it's clear in St. Louis, but the game won't start until about 4 o'clock Chicago time.
- 11:21In Detroit, by the weather's clear, the Tigers will take on the Boston Reds.
- 11:25In Cleveland, the Indians are entertaining the Philadelphia Athletics in two games.
- 11:29The first game has started, and at the end of the fourth inning, the Indians lead the A's,
- 11:33three to nothing, with Thomas and Conroy, the Athletics batter, for the Tribe, Harger and Sullivan.
- 11:38Scores and complete batteries at the end of the third, sixth, and ninth innings of today's ballgame.
- 11:43Now for a bit of baseball and other sporting information from around the country.
- 11:47Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees and Becky Medrick of the St. Louis Cardinals
- 11:50continue to set the pace today for the Major League hitters.
- 11:52Gehrig topped the American League batters with a mark of.379.
- 11:55Following the Yankee first baseman was his teammate Joe DiMaggio.
- 11:59Sam West of the St. Louis Browns, Cecil Travis of the Washington Senators, and Bo Bello the Browns.
- 12:03Medrick headed the National League sluggers with a.412 average.
- 12:07Paul Wehner of the Pittsburgh Pirates was second, Gabby Hartland of the Chicago Cubs third,
- 12:11Frankie Bond of the Pittsburgh Pirates fourth, and Billy Herman of the Cubs was fifth.
- 12:15And now speaking of baseball, here comes a surprise story from St. Louis that one of the greatest
- 12:19baseball players in the history of the National League was dismissed today as manager of the seventh place St. Louis Browns.
- 12:24Manager Rogers Hornsby was given his walking papers as pilot of the Browns by President Don L. Barnes.
- 12:30Barnes made the customary announcement that Hornsby had been ousted for the best interests of the class.
- 12:35The dismissal was effective immediately.
- 12:37One of Hornsby's aides on the coaching staff, the former first base star Sonny Jim Bottomley,
- 12:41was named to succeed Hornsby as manager of the team, which has won only 25 out of the 75 games this season.
- 12:47The rift between Hornsby and the President Barnes of the Browns came as a surprise.
- 12:51Recently, Barnes told Trans Radio that he considered Hornsby the best manager in baseball.
- 12:56At the time Barnes said, quote, Hornsby works morning, noon, and night for the best interests of the Browns.
- 13:01He thinks baseball and lives baseball.
- 13:03Hornsby is a splendid man to hold down the manager's job in our new set up, which stresses the development of younger players, end quote.
- 13:10The deposed manager Hornsby and his successor Bottomley were stars of the first order.
- 13:14Hornsby was perhaps the greatest right-handed hitter ever to walk to the plate.
- 13:20Hornsby led the National League in batting seven times and set an all-time major league batting mark of 424
- 13:26as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1924.
- 13:28Rajah hit 400 three times during his career.
- 13:31He played 22 seasons in the big show and wound up with a lifetime average of 359.
- 13:35Hornsby came up to the big leagues from Denison, Texas in the Western Association.
- 13:40The young second-backer was sold to the St. Louis Cardinals for a reported $500.
- 13:45$500 for a man destined to become one of the most colorful second basemen of all time.
- 13:49Hornsby was made manager of the Cardinals in 1926.
- 13:52He proceeded to give St. Louis its first National League pennant and a world championship.
- 13:56No sooner had St. Louis finished its celebration than Hornsby was traded to the New York Giants
- 14:00for Frankie Frisch, the present Cardinal manager, and Jimmy Ring.
- 14:04The Giants traded Hornsby to Boston in 1928 and Hornsby became manager of the Braves.
- 14:09The following fall, Hornsby went to the Chicago Cubs for a reported price of $200,000 and several players.
- 14:14Hornsby was voted the most valuable player in the National League during his first year in a Cubs uniform.
- 14:20Aggressive Hornsby was made manager of the Cubs in 1931 and was released in 1932.
- 14:24He went back to the Cubs the following year.
- 14:26Hornsby was released by the Cardinals in 1933 and appointed manager of the St. Louis Browns to succeed William Killefer.
- 14:32The new manager, Bottomley, is an old friend and teammate of Hornsby.
- 14:36Sonny Jim played first base while Rogers was at second on the St. Louis Cardinals world championship team of 1926.
- 14:44Coach Charles O'Leary of the St. Louis Browns was fired today along with manager Rogers Hornsby.
- 14:48The Browns president, Donald Barnes, announced that the former St. Louis Card manager, Gabby Street, would succeed O'Leary.
- 14:54And now for a bit of sporting information other than baseball.
- 14:58From Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, former national tennis champion, Will Rallison, will continue his quest for permanent possession of the Longwood Bowl in the third round match to date.
- 15:06The 1935 title holder, twice winner of the Longwood Cricket Club Tournament, will take on Howard Stevens of Yale University this afternoon.
- 15:13Gilbert Hunt is paired with Norman Bickel while Bernard Markham will clash with William Murphigs.
- 15:17And from London, the tennis world agreed today that only a starting upset can prevent the United States Davis Cup team from returning the international trophy to American shores.
- 15:26The magnificent uphill battle of Donald Budge to defeat Baron von Kram of Germany
- 15:30installed the United States as the overwhelming choice to defeat England in the challenge round starting Saturday.
- 15:35Even without a strong number of two single players, the American squad figures to win at least four of the five matches.
- 15:41On form, Budge should win his two singles duel.
- 15:44Budge and Mako should take the doubles and the American number two single player should defeat the English number two performer.
- 15:50Ronnie Austin looms as the only British winner.
- 15:53And from Chicago, eight young boxers were named today to oppose a Dubuque, Iowa CYO team Friday night in a series of intercity matches.
- 16:00The bouts will be held here in Chicago.
- 16:02The Chicagoans will be fighting also for a chance to be among the Catholic Youth Organization members
- 16:07to meet a team of South American champions at Soldiers Field on August 25.
- 16:10The eight Chicago boxers include two who have already fought at Dubuque, Frankie Kainrath, and Jackie Goodman.
- 16:17And from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts again,
- 16:20Grayson Wheeler of Santa Monica, California and Mrs. John Van Ryn of Austin, Texas advanced today
- 16:25to the quarterfinal round of the women's single matches in the Longwood Tournament.
- 16:28Mrs. Wheeler won her third round by defeating Mrs. August Callis of Richfield, Connecticut 6-1, 6-4.
- 16:35Mrs. Van Ryn won her third round match from Virginia Ellis of Boston in straight set 6-0, 6-0.
- 16:41In two other third round matches, Mrs. Bonnie Miller-Blank of Los Angeles defeated Grace Turber of New York 6-1, 6-0.
- 16:49And Norma Torbo of Starsdale, New York won from Mrs. E. B. Corbier of Southland, Massachusetts 6-1, 6-4.
- 16:58The country's third ranking tennis player, Mrs. Sarah Paul-Freethavian,
- 17:01defeated the Japanese star, Mrs. Takuku Nakano today to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Longwood women's singles.
- 17:07And now I see that Hal Thompson is ready and will go back to Kamiski Park to the baseball game
- 17:11between the Chicago White Sox and the Washington Senators. Take it, Hal.
- 17:14Thank you, the White Sox, ladies and gentlemen.
- 17:17After our hectic start, boy, look at that up here.
- 17:20You can see where those bands really P-rated, can't you?
- 17:23All over the outfield is a bunch of bands been walking here and there and thereabouts.
- 17:28The White Sox been waiting while Bonora was in the clubhouse, apparently getting his gloves fixed.
- 17:36He finally gets out there in the field.
- 17:38Now Umpar Owens is standing out here at the right of the White Sox and he's a Lewis' second hitter.
- 17:44Umpire Owens is already there.
- 17:48And I don't see just what the delay is being caused by now.
- 17:51All of the White Sox are on the field and he's because he finished his warm-up.
- 17:55Umpire Owens standing there talking to Al-Maidan Lourdes.
- 17:58Other umpires talking to the two coaches.
- 18:01And apparently the fans have all finally gotten back on the ground stand or maybe a few of them are still getting back in.
- 18:09That may be the reason for it.
- 18:11Florida delegation ended up out there at the plate with a big presentation to the two managers featuring the huge man in the bathing trunks
- 18:19and the, carrying the alligator.
- 18:22And both teams lined up one long, the first one long, the third base line.
- 18:28There really has been a very, very spectacular display out here and one that everybody in the class will well remember.
- 18:35Because things like that don't happen around big league bowl arcades very often.
- 18:39And they're very, very welcome for a change.
- 18:42Now Umpar Owens is walking over there to the stand to the right.
- 18:45So apparently some of the boys are still hanging over the edge and maybe they don't realize that they really have got to
- 18:51get things in off the field before we can go on.
- 18:58But apparently there's been that notice to the man.
- 19:01Rick walks back out here to start the ball here.
- 19:09Finally takes his place up there behind the catcher.
- 19:11Deepik out there getting ready to pick the first one.
- 19:14That's his easy swinging windup.
- 19:17And pitches and Almeda gets a good strike over the outside corner just above the knees.
- 19:22One strike on Almeda.
- 19:28Pitcher again starts to wind up.
- 19:31Throws and Mill takes a ball and missed the outside counter-cross away, breaking in toward the header.
- 19:36And it's one ball and one strike.
- 19:38One and one to count.
- 19:42One and one.
- 19:44He takes the next hit along the deep right field and walks his way, way back there near the wall.
- 19:49But it goes in through the stand for a home run.
- 19:52A home run into the lower deck of the right field stand for the first demonstration for the benefit of the
- 19:57juicing lines out here.
- 19:59And that ball was really hit.
- 20:01And now some of those bad boys for a down first out unloading with the blank cartridges which echo through the stands.
- 20:08And Almeda opens the ball game with a home run into the right field stand to get the
- 20:13Senators a one to nothing lead over the right side.
- 20:16And it brings Lewis, another left-handed hitter to bat.
- 20:18Deep expect to wind up throws and Buddy takes a high one wide for ball one.
- 20:23One ball called.
- 20:30Pitcher again winding up pitches and the header swings the ball back to the screen.
- 20:34And it's one and one.
- 20:35One ball and one strike.
- 20:37And he's out there for the next time.
- 20:42He has it.
- 20:43He starts to wind up again and pitches and the header gets the second ball wide across the knees making it two and one.
- 20:49Two balls and one strike.
- 20:58There comes the third ball.
- 20:59Another wide one and deep fix famous lack of control is starting to bother him early in this ball game.
- 21:05Early early in this ball game.
- 21:07He's waiting out there again.
- 21:11Starts to wind up and throws and the header takes ball four.
- 21:15It's over the plate but it's too low.
- 21:17And Lewis gets the base on ball.
- 21:19Well, well, well.
- 21:20Biggie Brown is looking it all well for the white shots in their pitcher.
- 21:24And the result is that they have a runner on first base.
- 21:27Nobody out on the first inning.
- 21:29One run already home.
- 21:30Almeda's home run.
- 21:31And Travis the shortstop.
- 21:33Still another left-handed hitter as a bet.
- 21:35And the white shots start somebody warming up.
- 21:38I believe it's Kane warming up in the left field bullpen.
- 21:41And the first pitch to Travis is a short breaking third ball that goes inside and low for ball one.
- 21:46One ball called.
- 21:54He's out to first base.
- 21:55Throw it again.
- 21:56The header swings in a flat left field.
- 21:57Radcliffe is racing back into his left and makes the catch out there for the first out
- 22:02in the first inning.
- 22:04Chasing Lewis back to first base.
- 22:10And, but he's on first base still with one out.
- 22:14One run already home in the first inning.
- 22:16And Simmons, Ralph Simmons, the Washington left fielder is a bet.
- 22:21Deepic stretches, gets ready to pitch the first one to Al.
- 22:30Pitches and the header takes a slow curve and misses the outside corner across the way.
- 22:35Al is a right-handed hitter, but first to face Deepic so far.
- 22:45He takes a look at first base.
- 22:46The runner's on the goal.
- 22:47The header takes a wide one.
- 22:48Sewell's throwing it out there and the runner slides in safely, stealing second.
- 22:52A good steal of second by Lewis, putting him on second base with one out, one run home in the first inning.
- 22:57Simmons still at bat in the count two and nothing.
- 23:02He balls and no strikes on Al.
- 23:10Deepic throws it on.
- 23:11Simmons swings and falls a ball on the ground.
- 23:13A hit to Tkach's foot, bounds over to the right and Sewell crops over there to pick it up.
- 23:17Looking over and throws back.
- 23:18Nice, I'm taking back the umpire.
- 23:20Apparently, two more up for use.
- 23:47Now the next pitch to Simmons is a third ball.
- 23:50It's wide and low and so it's three and one on Al.
- 23:53Three balls and one strike on Simmons.
- 24:01Three and one to count.
- 24:02Here comes that pitcher again.
- 24:03Ready?
- 24:04But the second throw is a now hit to long grab to deep left field.
- 24:07It's a way way back.
- 24:08Looks like that's also in there.
- 24:09And it is a home run into the second back of the left field phase by Simmons.
- 24:13And he's starting around second base to ball bound and back into the field.
- 24:16But Al starts on around deep bases and it's another home run this time with a man on base.
- 24:22Mr. Deepic, I don't believe will be with us very long if his left persists in that man.
- 24:28He's given up two hits, both of them home runs in the same time as it was a walk.
- 24:41And the man at bat is Stone taking the first pitch wide and low for ball one.
- 24:45One ball called.
- 24:48Washington now leading a shot three to nothing in the first inning.
- 24:51As a result of two home runs in the walk.
- 24:53And the next pitch he finally gets one over down around the knees and it's strike one.
- 24:58Both one ball and one strike on Stone.
- 25:00Deepic winds up again, pitches and the hitter falls this one into the second deck above into the left of the plate.
- 25:05And it's one ball and two strikes on Stone.
- 25:08One and two to count.
- 25:18Deepic blows again for one and ball two.
- 25:21Both two balls and two strikes.
- 25:24One to the count on Stone.
- 25:32He's ready out there again, has a stand once more, starts to wind up.
- 25:36Pitches and hitter swings at an easy bounder down to Hayes who scoops it up, throws the first base and Stone is out by a step for the second out in the first inning.
- 25:50And that's a two out of the first inning for the Senators.
- 25:52Three runs all home.
- 25:54And Joe Cool, the first baseman, is at bat.
- 25:57Cool up there at the plate.
- 25:59Another left-handed swinger by the way.
- 26:01And he takes the first one wide and low for ball one.
- 26:04One ball called.
- 26:10Again, the pitcher starts to wind up, throws and Joe starts to swing to change his mind to take a high one inside.
- 26:15And it's two and nothing. Two balls and no strikes on Cool.
- 26:22One nothing to count.
- 26:23Joe takes the first strike now, fast ball over the inside corner down around the knees.
- 26:27And it's two and one.
- 26:33Swings the next to drive it in the center field for a base hit.
- 26:36And well, a hit base hit too.
- 26:38He makes the turn for second, but Cleavage makes a hard throw right strike to second base.
- 26:43Apling got it right over the bag with the out of hop.
- 26:48Turns his throw to throw to first, but Cool is on his all the way back there by then after making a wide turn.
- 26:53And it puts him on first base with Buddy Meyer.
- 26:58But he's the seventh hitter this inning and six of the seven have been left-handed hitters.
- 27:02The first pitch is high and wide for ball one.
- 27:06One ball called.
- 27:11He waits there again, takes another look at first base.
- 27:14And throws and the hitter swings in a high fly coming down far to the right of the plate.
- 27:18Back of it a little. Cool is back there and gets it for the third out, ending the first half of the first inning.
- 27:23But not until dire damage has been done to Bill Dietrich.
- 27:28Three runs, three hits, and one man left on base with three runs being due to two home runs.
- 27:33A home run by Almeida to open the ball game.
- 27:36A home run by Simmons with Lewis who had walked on base.
- 27:39And then the single by Cool left him on base.
- 27:42So the Senators are leading the White Sox by a score of three to nothing as the White Sox come to bat in the last half of the first inning with Jackie Hayes,
- 27:51White Sox leadoff man and second baseman, the first man of fact.
- 27:55Hayes up there at the plate.
- 28:10Deshawn, Jimmy Deshawn is the pitcher for the Senators today.
- 28:33And Jackie sits up there at the plate after the umpire dusts it off and pulls on his mask.
- 28:45John out there starts to wind up, he's right-handed.
- 28:48And pitches him, the hitter takes a wide run across the knees for ball one.
- 28:53One ball called.
- 28:58John Wachow has a sign again, starts to wind up.
- 29:02Pitchers and Hayes takes a fast one for a strike over the inside corner across the chest.
- 29:06And it's one and one, one ball and one strike on Hayes.
- 29:13One and one is the count.
- 29:15He throws once more into the curve ball wide and low making it two and one. Two balls and one strike.
- 29:35There comes a wide run across the knees for ball three for three and one on Jackie Hayes. Three balls and one strike.
- 29:49And there's the second strike. You let that one go by, it's over the plate down around the knees.
- 29:53And so it's three and two. Three balls and two strikes.
- 30:02He throws once more, the hitter swings the half line, he's shot center fielder, center fielder coming in fast.
- 30:07And grabs for the ball and just drops out of his glove.
- 30:10Stone grabs it fast, holding Hayes at first base and it's a base hit.
- 30:14Top fly into center fielder, which Al Meade has made a great try and manages to just touch it with the tip of his fingers as it drops out there back to second base.
- 30:22And it goes to the base hit for Hayes.
- 30:24Putting him on first base, there's nobody out in the first inning, over the white spot and Mike Krivitz, right side center fielder, is at bat.
- 30:32Krivitz up there at the plate.
- 30:39Towards his first base and throws, Mike hits a long fly but it's fouled on the right field line and going back into seats out of reach.
- 30:46One strike on Krivitz, one strike to count.
- 30:54It's a sign again now, throws and Mike swings it along the deep left field.
- 30:58Way out there and it's another home run and boy that one went way, way back into the lower deck of the seat.
- 31:04A way back, almost to the very rear of the lower deck and Krivitz is trotting around, steps on third base and drops onto the plate.
- 31:13Oh these Lions are really seeing some hitting out here.
- 31:16They come out here and they've seen three home runs and there's only a little more than half an inning been played.
- 31:25So the score is three to two in favor of the Senators now in the first inning and the white spot said Dixie Walker is back, nobody out, two runs home.
- 31:39And a pick to throw to the first one, Dixie takes it high and wide for 4-1, one ball called.
- 31:46It isn't a strong wind blowing out either as a matter of fact it's a strong wind from the east and Almeida's hit was against that wind.
- 31:52The others might be getting some support from it but not enough to carry them in.
- 31:57The next pitch is ball two, it's also wide and the count is two and nothing on Walker, two balls and no strikes.
- 32:09And there comes ball three inside and low so it's three balls and no strikes on Walker, three and nothing as Sean stops to rub up the ball now before pitching the next one to Dixie.
- 32:20A low-clock call for the ball, seeing whether it's all right or not. R. Owen's examining the ball down there.
- 32:33Finally hands it back to the catcher, he throws it out to Deshawn and Walker, left-handed hitter, steps up there to play it again.
- 32:40He throws and Dix takes the strike one, soft ball that came over the inside corner of the crosser chest and it's three and one, three balls and one strike on Walker.
- 32:52He throws again and Dix gets ball four, it's wide, the base on ball and Dix Vanura is at the back.
- 33:02Vanura up there at the plate.
- 33:11Dix stops to dig in with his right foot there, gets ready to pitch now, or to hit rather as Deshawn gets ready to pitch.
- 33:19Jimmy suddenly steps off the mound by number one Moriarty over here at first base, calls time and Walker tosses his glass case to Merv Shea coaching at first base.
- 33:29Burned to get out there and discovered he still has his glass case in his pocket.
- 33:33Those glasses cost about $18 apiece you know.
- 33:36And the first pitch to Dix is a high-pass ball inside for ball one. One ball called.
- 33:47There's the sign again, there's that stretch, he stretches his arms out in front of him instead of over his head and throws strike one over the inside corner about waist-high.
- 33:55So the count is one and one, one ball and one strike on Vanura.
- 34:00Walker on first base, nobody else, two runs home for the White Sox in the first inning and Dix gets the second ball behind wide to make it two and one.
- 34:09Two balls and one strike on Henry.
- 34:11Husky, right-handed hitter.
- 34:15Two and one is the count.
- 34:18Still watching, finally gets his sign again. Pitches and it's a strike over the outside corner, across the knees. Henry lets out a howl.
- 34:26You can hear it clear up here. He says, oh, the ball's serving away from him. Just nicely caught the corner down around the knees.
- 34:32And it's two balls and two strikes on Vanura.
- 34:36Two and two is the count.
- 34:43Two and two, Pitcher throws the gun and Dix swings in a pop fly coming down back of the long side of the pitcher's mound.
- 34:50And the catcher, Farrell, goes out there to make the catch for the first out of the game.
- 34:54Vanura pops out to Farrell out there near the pitcher's mound. It's one out in the first inning for the White Sox.
- 35:00Walker is still on first base with two runs home and Rip Bradcock, Ray the Ripper, White Sox left fielder.
- 35:08A left-handed hitter is up there at bat.
- 35:12Going to hit an easy barter down to Meyer who gets it flipped at the shortstop.
- 35:15He throws the first-foot Walker across the bag well ahead of the throw.
- 35:19Ball was very slowly hit on Meyer. Didn't have much chance to make the play start any faster.
- 35:24He said it was done perfectly by Silas.
- 35:27And so Radcliffe is on first base with two out in the first inning, two runs home.
- 35:32And Luke Appling at best for three to two in favor of Washington in the last half of the first inning.
- 35:39And Sean throws the first one and Luke takes a high one wide for ball one. One ball called.
- 35:57Sean waits out for the next time. Seems to have it. He's ready. There's the set.
- 36:00He pitches and Appling hits the ball in the center field.
- 36:03And Valmeta comes in nicely though and makes the catch for the third out. And it's two runs to it.
- 36:11One man left on base in the last half of the first inning.
- 36:15And at the end of the first inning Washington leads the White Sox by a score of three to two.
- 36:21Washington leads the White Sox three to two at the end of the first inning of this ball game.
- 36:28The best is none too good where 90 percent of your driving safety is concerned.
- 36:34Be sure your car has the best in chassis lubrication. Have it Morphac regularly.
- 36:40It will save money too because Morphac is the exclusive technical chassis lubricant which lasts twice as long as ordinary grease.
- 37:05Here is Rick Bell at best. That's the second inning for Washington.
- 37:09Rick out there is getting ready to pitch the first one. Starts his easy swinging windup.
- 37:13Pitches and Rick takes a fast strike over the inside corner a little above the knee.
- 37:18One strike on Farrell.
- 37:22Dietrich winds up again.
- 37:25Throw and Rick swings the ball back into the second back above and back of the plate.
- 37:29And if two strikes on Farrell, two strikes to count.
- 37:43Again the pitcher throws Rick swings at a slow bound.
- 37:45Apling comes in nicely, gets it, throws the first.
- 37:48And while the throw is low, Benora gets it nicely to get Farrell out for the first out in the second inning.
- 38:00One out of the second inning for Washington and Deshongs.
- 38:03The Washington pitcher is a fatty. That's right hand as he pitches.
- 38:07And is already waiting there at the plate.
- 38:10Dietrich gets ready to pitch the first one to him. Bell's getting his sign.
- 38:13Starts his windup.
- 38:15And the hitter swings it a high fly to right field. Bob Walker's back waiting for the ball.
- 38:19He has it and it's two out in the second inning.
- 38:24Two out in the second inning for the Senators.
- 38:27And Al Mada, the Washington center fielder, is at bat.
- 38:32Al Mada up there at the plate.
- 38:42The pitcher winds up pitches and it's a strike over the heart of the plate just above the knee.
- 38:46One strike on Al Mada.
- 38:53Throws again Al Mada, swings it a line drive to left field.
- 38:55Reds the dint, fast catch it and it's three out.
- 38:58No runs, no hits in the second inning for Washington.
- 39:01And the score is still three to two in favor of the Senators as the White Sox come to bat in the last half of the second inning.
- 39:08First White Sox hitter in Boasberger, White Sox third baseman.
- 39:13Broadcast of the White Sox Washington game comes to you direct from Comiskey Park, the home of the White Sox at Chicago,
- 39:20as a presentation of your neighborhood Texaco dealer, distributor of Texaco fire cheap gasoline.
- 39:27Broadcast reaches you through station WCFL in Chicago.
- 39:34Don't forget to get your request card and send it in for the 1937 Texaco scorebook,
- 39:39which is now off the presses and being mailed out.
- 39:42Some of them probably arrive this morning at your home.
- 39:46Jump in at any Texaco dealer, ask for a request card, fill it in completely with the information that the spaces are provided for,
- 39:53mail it to me at WCFL, I wouldn't say NBC, that wouldn't be called Radwimms.
- 39:58Although if it lands there we'll see that it goes to the right place anyway.
- 40:01But to WCFL and then we'll see that you get your scorebook by return mail.
- 40:07It'll be mailed direct to you, no delay in delivery this time.
- 40:10A bigger better book and much more complete than last year.
- 40:13Further up that hits the first pitch, a tremendous hole up the deep right center.
- 40:16That Al Mada goes over there beautifully to make a nice running catch of that ball for the first out.
- 40:21That Al Mada really covers ground.
- 40:23The way that ball started I thought it was really through there with Stone coming fast.
- 40:27I didn't think he had a chance and Al Mada came out of nowhere to almost overrun the ball and still make the play.
- 40:33So it's one out in the second inning for the White Sox, but Luke Sewell, White Sox catcher, has that.
- 40:39Sewell starts the play for a 3-2 in favor of Washington.
- 40:48Stone winds up now, throws and the hitters swing, hitters slow monitor down the third baseline.
- 40:52Third baseline Lewis gets it, throws the first and while Cool had the shift to the back of the bag,
- 40:56to take a rather wide throw to the left, he got the runner easily for the second out.
- 41:00And it's a 2-out in the second inning for the White Sox.
- 41:03And Bill Tietrich, the White Sox pitcher, comes walking up there to the plate.
- 41:07Tietrich has got the 2-out of the second inning for the Sox.
- 41:18It's a waiting out there for Stone to pitch the first one to Tietrich, starts to wind up.
- 41:23And throws and hitters swings and falls the ball in the ground.
- 41:28Hits the ground and bounded out back to the plate.
- 41:31Sewell was walking on back to the bench and the ball bounced to him.
- 41:34He very casually caught it, looked it over, held it out to the umpire and pointed something up ahead at it.
- 41:39And the umpire says throw it out of play.
- 41:41So Luke rolled it out and over to the bag out and the next pitch comes back for a strike over the outside corner.
- 41:46Deetrich didn't go after it.
- 41:47So it's two strikes on Bill, two strikes to Tom.
- 41:51And he swings at the next one to hit a hard bounded on to the third base and he gets it.
- 41:56Throws the first and the runner is out as Poole leaves the bag to take the throw and then steps back on the bag for the third out.
- 42:04The ball was hard hit but straight to Lewis.
- 42:06So it's no runs, no hits in the second inning for the White Sox.
- 42:10It's a ball remaining three to two in favor of Washington at the end of the second inning.
- 42:21It doesn't pay to experiment with motor oil.
- 42:24Always buy new Texaco motor oil and be sure that your car is getting complete lubrication.
- 42:30Texaco resists heat and it doesn't burn up inside the engine and also it lasts longer saving you real money.
- 42:39Lewis is about to start the third inning for the Senators and takes the first pitch inside across the knees for ball one.
- 42:52One ball called on the buddy, left handed hitter as I mentioned.
- 42:56Deetrich throws again for ball two.
- 42:58That also missed the inside corner down around the knees and it's two and nothing.
- 43:02Two balls on both sides.
- 43:10Walks up onto the mound, stands there watching the fight again.
- 43:13Finally has his sign, starts to wind up and throws and the hitter takes the ball three high and wide.
- 43:20He's got a walk in the first inning and rode home ahead of Simmons on Al's home run.
- 43:24Now he's gotten his way to another walk from the looks of things.
- 43:27There's the first strike, it's over the outside corner a little above the knees, so it's three and one.
- 43:32Three balls and one strike on Lewis.
- 43:43Three and one to count.
- 43:51Three and one to propose again.
- 43:53There's a strike over the heart of the plate just about knee high, so it's three and two.
- 43:57Three balls and two strikes on Lewis.
- 44:03Three and two is the count, but throws one more, buddy swings it up line left field.
- 44:07That's just reaching back very, very high and makes a pretty, pretty running touch way back towards the left field corner.
- 44:13And still on the go running very hard when he made the play.
- 44:16So it's one-oh in the third inning for the Senators and Travis, Deetrich Travis, the shortstop.
- 44:22Here's a fast.
- 44:25Deetrich got him out very nicely after having a count of three and nothing on him.
- 44:29Got two strikes on the man and then he hits that fly which Deetrich captured, although he had a little trouble catching up with it.
- 44:36Deetrich throws now and the hitter swings with the line drive left field deep.
- 44:39Radcliffe gets over that fast, takes it on the hop turns and throws it into second base by fast fielding.
- 44:44Holds it to a single.
- 44:46The ball was well hit down the left field line.
- 44:48Radcliffe coming over fast, caught it on the bounce.
- 44:50And now again the white shots start keen, warming up in the left field bullpen.
- 44:58Simmons steps up there and suddenly stops, moves down the dirt and the mound.
- 45:03The umpire are out in the batter's box.
- 45:05The umpire calls time for him.
- 45:06Now it's back up there again though.
- 45:08Deetrich ready to pitch, turns, throws and Simmons swings hit a fly coming down foul on the roof of the stand above first base.
- 45:15One strike on Simmons.
- 45:17One strike to count.
- 45:28Still watching first base, finally throws again and it's a high one inside for ball one, making it one ball and one strike on Simmons.
- 45:37One and one to count.
- 45:48One and one, but it seems set once more.
- 45:51Throws and header swings, hit a boundary down through the shortstop.
- 45:54That will get the flip to the second base when Hayes throws the first.
- 45:57That Simmons had beaten the relay there.
- 45:58It was a slow boundary and they even had to make a very fast play to get Travis a second.
- 46:03So Hayes throws to first, had no chance of beating Simmons.
- 46:07So it's two out in the third inning for the Senators.
- 46:10Simmons is on first base and Johnny Stone, the Washington right fielder, is at bat.
- 46:16Stone up there at the plate.
- 46:21He's the man at first base.
- 46:24And Fitchers and Stonefish a strike over the outside corner a little above the knee.
- 46:28One strike on Johnny.
- 46:34He's waiting there again for his time.
- 46:36Has it, swings around as he gets it, takes a look over his shoulder at the man at first base.
- 46:41And Fitchers and the header takes a ball that's inside across the way and it's one and one.
- 46:46One ball and one strike on Stone.
- 46:50One and one to count.
- 46:55Ready again, Fitchers and the header swings, hits the slow boundary at the end of the bat.
- 46:59Berger comes over fast, grabs for the ball but fumbles it and the runner is safe on Berger's air.
- 47:04Looks like rather an easy ball but I think it took just a little bit of a low hop and while both managed to hit it with the glove and slow it up,
- 47:11he couldn't get it where he could reach it in time to make the play and it's charged with an air on it.
- 47:16And it moves Simmons to second base.
- 47:18So the Senators have runners on first and second with two outs in the third inning and Cool, the first baseman, is the best.
- 47:27Cool up there at the plate.
- 47:29He hits the first one, falls down the left field line, well hit the ball right along the line but fall by inches and it's strike one.
- 47:37One strike to count.
- 47:46Ball is thrown in there, rolled in along the line, the one that had been hit.
- 47:56Cool got it, it scooped it up in the pool here and he badged it back to Cool and he just passed it to the umpires.
- 48:01A regular juggling act going down there by the three of them.
- 48:04One strike on Joe.
- 48:06He's just ready to pitch again.
- 48:08He's watching the man second finally pitch it.
- 48:10And Cool hits a beauty out to deep left fielder.
- 48:12That's his going back down and it's over his head, hangs up against the wall.
- 48:16One run is going, a second run in.
- 48:18Cool is on his way to third base.
- 48:20Atman gets the ball and throws it in, 3-3-6.
- 48:22And he stops it in the center of the garden.
- 48:25A triple to left center by Cool driving in two un-in runs because they would not have scored if they hadn't been the all-by-burger.
- 48:33And it gives the Senators a 5-2 lead over the hard shot.
- 48:37Senators leading 5-2 which is an unfortunate break for Deepic because he isn't having a good match day.
- 48:44It's hard to be able to weather those bad breaks like that.
- 48:49And they boys come up with trouble for him as soon as it happens.
- 48:53Now the man at third is Maher.
- 48:55The second baseman and buddy take a strike over the outside corner.
- 48:59How about way past?
- 49:00One strike to count.
- 49:03The other hitter swings the bounder down to Appling and takes a very nasty hop.
- 49:07And Appling has to throw up his glove to bat it and keep it from hitting him in the face.
- 49:11By the time he recovers it another run is home.
- 49:13And Maher is safe at first base.
- 49:16It was suddenly a base hit.
- 49:17Yes it is, a base hit because that one took a very bad hop.
- 49:21Appling who was in front of it had to throw up his hand to keep him getting hit in the face.
- 49:25This man has to fight the ball to the ground.
- 49:27And by the time he recovered it, the runner was across first base.
- 49:31And Cool had scored the third run of the inning to give the Senators a 6-2 lead over the head shot.
- 49:36And bring Rick Ferrell to bat.
- 49:38Ferrell with right hand has hit it up there for a second.
- 49:43Ferrell swings in a high fly to short right field.
- 49:46Walker is coming in easily under it.
- 49:48Comes in a little bit faster now and makes the catch for the third out.
- 49:52Ending the first half of the third inning with three runs, three hits.
- 49:57One error, one man that's on base and all three runs are unearned runs because the error was made on a play that would have been the third out.
- 50:04And so the score is 6-2 in favor of Washington at the White Sox Thunderbat.
- 50:09In the last half of the third inning with Jackie Hayes, White Sox second baseman and leadoff man, the first man up.
- 50:15It's brought back the White Sox-Washington game.

- 51:21Hayes hits the first pitch, a long drive to left center.
- 51:23White Elm made it back there, donning back easily, and makes the catch for the first out in the third inning.
- 51:29The ball was well hit, but Elm made it.
- 51:31There's no trouble getting over to the deep left center to make the play.
- 51:34One out in the third inning for the White Sox, and Mike Pivich, White Sox center fielder, feels it best.
- 51:54And the first pitch is a strike over the heart of the plate just above the knees.
- 51:57One strike to count.
- 52:03It's a again winding up throw, and the hitter takes a wide run across the knees for ball one.
- 52:08So the count is one and one, one ball and one strike, and clear it.
- 52:22One and one is the count, but there's the next one.
- 52:24The hitter hits a long drive to right field, but the right fielder's tone is waiting for that get set, and it's two out in the third inning.
- 52:31One out in the third inning for the White Sox, with Dixie Walker, White Sox right fielder, at bat.
- 52:37Walker up there to strike.
- 52:39The showing has always been more or less tough for the White Sox.
- 52:41All they started out in the first inning is, oh, they're going to make things tough for him.
- 52:45He's caught up to them since then, and with a four-run lead, he is going along pretty well.
- 52:52Now, and Dixie takes a wide run across the waist for ball one. One ball calls.
- 53:01One ball calls. It's ready again, winds up, and throws, and the hitter swings to foul the ball into the stand to the right of the plate, and it's one and one.
- 53:11One ball and one strike.
- 53:19One ball and one strike.
- 53:26And the 50-seed is set again, as Walker was out of the box.
- 53:29He steps back up there to the plate once more, and they're watching his time.
- 53:36Take a look around, the ball's out there in the field at the plate once more, and starts to wind up.
- 53:43And Walker hits an extra high fly on the set of fields.
- 53:46The plate is coming in nicely on Drix. Slows up a little bit, but not much and makes the catch on the run for the third out, ending the third inning with no runs, no hits for the White Sox.
- 53:55And at the end of the third inning, Washington is leading the White Sox by a score of 6 to 2.
- 54:03And now, for scores and batteries from other cities, we return to the studio.
- 54:07In the National League, the Cubs took the first game with a double header from the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-1,
- 54:11where the Lee and Harknett, the Cubs, battered for the entire game for the Phillies, Johnson and Grace.
- 54:14In the second game, the Cubs lead the Phillies at the end of the first to the third, 5-0, with French and O'Dea the Cubs battered for the Phillies,
- 54:19Jolkins and Grace opening while Cahey pitching in the third inning.
- 54:22The Dodgers lead the Pirates at the end of the sixth inning, 5-0.
- 54:25Lohman and Todd the Pirate battered for the Dodgers, Jethkote and Spencer.
- 54:28The Reds lead the Giants at the end of the first to the fifth, 6-3.
- 54:31Hollingsworth and Davis the Reds battered for the Giants, Castleman and Banning opening, Smith pitching in the fifth inning.
- 54:36The Lee's took the first game from the Cardinals, 5-1, with Blake and O on the Cardinal battery for the B's, Fetty and Mueller.
- 54:41In the second game at the end of the first inning, it's as clear as time, nothing to nothing between the Cards and the B's,
- 54:45with Dizzy Dean and O on the Cardinal battery for the B's, Lanning and Miller.
- 54:49In the American League, the Tigers and Red Sox are tied at the end of the second inning, 1-1.
- 54:53Grohl and Dessel tell the Red Sox battered for the Tigers, Bridges and Hayworth.
- 54:57The Indians lead the Athletics at the end of the seventh inning, 7-3.
- 55:01Thomas and Conroy opening for the A's, with Nelson pitching in the fifth inning, and for the Indians, Harder and Sullivan.
- 55:07And now back to Kamiski Park and Hal Toddson. Take it, Hal.
- 55:09Back at the ballpark for the fourth inning. Kane is now the White Sox pitcher.
- 55:14And the first pitch he throws to Deshawn, the Washington pitcher, is a curved ball that goes wide for ball one.
- 55:20Deshawn's left-right-handed, and Kane is the right-handed pitcher, as I believe you remember.
- 55:25Shub starts to wind up again.
- 55:27Grohl from the header takes a strike over the outside corner just above the knees, and it's one ball and one strike.
- 55:341-1 on Deshawn.
- 55:40Once more the pitcher starts to wind up, throws, and Jimmy swings and misses the first ball for a strike, making it one ball and two strikes on Deshawn.
- 55:49One to the count.
- 55:55Again, Kane starts to wind up, throws, and the header swings in a high fly.
- 55:59The
- 56:02previous is coming in under it now. He stands waking, backs up a couple of steps, makes the catch easily, and it's one out in the fourth inning.
- 56:07One out in the fourth inning for Washington and Al-Maidah.
- 56:11Mel Al-Maidah, the Washington center fielder, and Leda Mann, a left-handed hitter, is at best.
- 56:18There are only three right-handed hitters in the whole lineup.
- 56:21Six left-handed swingers, Simmons, Thal, and Deshawn, are the only ones batting right-handed.
- 56:28The pitcher throws now, and Mel takes the curve ball right and low for ball one. One ball called.
- 56:38And the pitcher seems ready again. He winds up once more.
- 56:42Throw of the header reaches out, bunks one, but it goes far back to the stand, and it's one and one.
- 56:47One ball and one strike on Al-Maidah.
- 56:50One and one to count.
- 57:04One and one to count, and the pitcher winding up once more. He throws, and Mel takes the strike over the outside corner,
- 57:10and it's one ball and two strikes on Al-Maidah. One and two to count.
- 57:23The swing's the next to file it back, and it's still one ball and two strikes on Mel.
- 57:28One and two to count.
- 57:36The team is set again. Rugged up, new ball up. Bonnie steps down the slide, and is ready once more.
- 57:43Winding up again. Throw, and Mel swings it a bounder down to the charge stop.
- 57:47Outling follows a very bad half-nice lead.
- 57:49Goes rather wide to first, but Fenora reaches way out to the left and gets it for the second out.
- 57:54So it's two outs in the fourth inning for Washington.
- 57:57And Lewis, Buddy Lewis, the Washington third baseman, is at bat.
- 58:02Lewis up there at the plate.
- 58:13He winds up to pitch first one to Buddy.
- 58:16Throw, and he swings in. This is a third ball, or a strike left.
- 58:20One strike on Lewis.
- 58:28Buddy waits out there again now. He starts to wind up once more.
- 58:33Throw, and then Lewis takes a strike over the outside corner above the knees.
- 58:38And it's two strikes on Buddy. Two strikes to count.
- 58:47Two strikes to count, but he winds up once more.
- 58:49Throws, and there's a ball.
- 58:51So Lewis gets away from Sewell, throws back almost to the scene, and it's one and two.
- 58:56Sewell and two strikes.
- 59:05One and two is to count. Pitcher stands out there waiting again.
- 59:11Takes quite a while. Now he's winding up.
- 59:15Throw, then the hitter swings in a high fly to short left field.
- 59:18That flip is in there waiting for the ball. He's under it now.
- 59:21Has it, and it's three out. No runs, no hits in the fourth inning for the Senators.
- 59:26And the score is still six to two in favor of Washington as the White Sox come to bat in the last half of the fourth inning.
- 59:34First White Sox hitter will be Zeke Fenora.
- 59:37This broadcast of the White Sox-Washington game comes to you directly from Iskepot, the home of the White Sox in Chicago.
- 59:44As a presentation of your neighborhood's technical dealer, distributor of technical fire chief gasoline.
- 59:49The broadcast reaches you through station WCFL.
- 59:53You see Donald McGillinney come up here just a few minutes ago.
- 59:57You know how bad another one's listening in to recuperate from some injuries he got in action.
- 1:00:01He's also spending his vacation in bed. That's Alex Robb.
- 1:00:04He's doing a lot of listening in both at the hospital and now that he's home at home.
- 1:00:09I think he listens to me once in a while, at least I've heard he does.
- 1:00:13And we're all dog-gone glad to hear that Alex is getting along better.
- 1:00:16Although again, I'd say it's an awful way to spend vacation.
- 1:00:20Here is Fenora up there as he gets the first one to fly to right field.
- 1:00:24Stone is going back on it. Oh, he gets over his head, bounce back into the field, and he gets it and throws it in as Fenora pulls up at second base.
- 1:00:32Mr. Stone was going to be nonchalant that time and he started back on that ball very slowly.
- 1:00:38Just taking a step or two and then he stopped and looked and then started to race back.
- 1:00:42But by that time the ball was over his head.
- 1:00:44He man, that fellow Benoit really hits the ball, you know.
- 1:00:47Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:49So it's a two-base hit for Zeke, putting him on second base.
- 1:00:52There's nobody out on the forefitting for the white star.
- 1:00:55And he managed that. He's just right there.
- 1:01:00Okay.
- 1:01:08Let's take the first one inside across the race. It's ball one.
- 1:01:16One ball called.
- 1:01:21One ball called. Seems ready again.
- 1:01:25Throws the hitter, hits the bounder down to the shortstop. Travis comes up with the ball, throws the first and Radcliffe is out easily for the first out.
- 1:01:32In the inning, Benoit is having to stay at second base.
- 1:01:35The whip is on second base with one out in the fourth inning and Apling. Luke Apling's white star shortstop is at best.
- 1:01:43And there's a high one wide for ball one. And the count is one ball called on Luke.
- 1:01:56One ball called, but the team set again pitches.
- 1:01:58And Apling swings and tried to stop his swing, but suddenly fell down trying to stop it.
- 1:02:03And he missed a high fastball inside for a strike.
- 1:02:07And part of the time is Apling steps out of the batter's box.
- 1:02:13But he steps back up there to play the game. The count is one ball and one strike.
- 1:02:21Keeps watching second base throws again. And the hitter hits the ball down past first base.
- 1:02:26It goes on down the line to the, this is bullpen where one of the boys gets it to throw it back in.
- 1:02:32And it's one and two, one ball and two strikes.
- 1:02:38One and two is the count.
- 1:02:45And there is another ball that's wide and the count is two balls and two strikes on Apling.
- 1:02:58Two and two the count. Pitcher waits there again for the next time.
- 1:03:02Takes another look back at second base throws.
- 1:03:04And Luke hits another ball down the right field line.
- 1:03:06This time back into the seat. Hits two balls and two strikes on Apling.
- 1:03:11Two and two the count.
- 1:03:26Two and two, pitcher waiting there again.
- 1:03:28Hands on his hips while he gets the sign now.
- 1:03:30A stretch in front of him, looks back at second.
- 1:03:32Pitchers and it's ball three.
- 1:03:34Apling steps back to take one just above the knees inside.
- 1:03:37And it's three and two.
- 1:03:40Three balls and two strikes.
- 1:03:50Three and two is the count. Pitcher waits out there again.
- 1:03:55Another look at second base. Now he's ready.
- 1:03:57Pitchers and it's a curve ball wide and low for ball three, or ball four rather.
- 1:04:02And Apling gets a base on ball.
- 1:04:05The team on first base, the White Sox have runners on first and second with one out in the fourth inning.
- 1:04:10And Boesberger, Luberger, White Sox third baseman is at best.
- 1:04:15Washington leading the White Sox by a score of six to two in the last half of the fourth inning.
- 1:04:22Still watching second base throws a hitter swings and drives the ball hard to right field.
- 1:04:26Stone goes back nicely this time to make the catch after starting to just wait as he did on the ball at Venora hit.
- 1:04:33But he got back that time to make the catch and it's two out.
- 1:04:38Makes it two out in the fourth inning for the White Sox.
- 1:04:41They still have runners on first and second.
- 1:04:43And Luke Sewell, White Sox catcher, is at best.
- 1:04:51Sewell up there at the plate.
- 1:04:53For his six to two in favor of Washington in the last half of the fourth inning.
- 1:04:57Pitcher turns and throws the second.
- 1:04:59Meyer takes the ball and takes Venora who was already back on the base.
- 1:05:03So Zeke takes his lead again.
- 1:05:05White Sox runners on first and second, two out in the fourth.
- 1:05:08Sewell is back.
- 1:05:13The ready now throws and Sewell takes a curve ball wide.
- 1:05:16Rick Farrell came up with the ball, hands it to Umpire.
- 1:05:19He was going to take off that time very peculiarly as though it might be something wrong with the cover.
- 1:05:24But the Umpire decides no, hands it back to Cashew, throws it back to Pitcher.
- 1:05:33And Pitcher's ready out there again.
- 1:05:35Seems to have the side and there's the stretch once more.
- 1:05:37Takes another look back at second.
- 1:05:38Pitcher hands the wide one across the knees for ball two.
- 1:05:42And the count is two and nothing.
- 1:05:43Two balls and no strikes on Sewell.
- 1:05:47Two and nothing to count.
- 1:05:57Two and nothing but the team's ready again.
- 1:06:00Throws and Sewell swings in a high fly on a short left field.
- 1:06:03Simmons has been waiting for the ball and he circles around a little bit.
- 1:06:07Finally makes the catch for the third out.
- 1:06:09Al seemed a little bit indecisive that time.
- 1:06:11He danced first one side then to the other.
- 1:06:13But he finally made the catch as he usually does for the third out.
- 1:06:17That is no runs.
- 1:06:18One hits, two men left on base.
- 1:06:20In the last half of the fourth inning for the White Sox.
- 1:06:22And the score stands 62 in favor of the Senators at the end of the fourth inning.
- 1:06:35Tourists are the people who roll up big mileage every year.
- 1:06:39And they have ample opportunity to compare the pickups, all, seed, and mileage of many different gasoline.
- 1:06:46And tourists buy more technical fire chief gasoline than any other brand.
- 1:06:51They know that fire chief gives them more for their money.
- 1:06:55Why don't you drive fire chief in your car?
- 1:07:03Well, Donald McGivney's a busy man out there.
- 1:07:05Oh, look, he's got Joe Allegherty with him down there.

- 1:07:52He says he's seen his first game although he's been in this city for 50 years.
- 1:07:56He went once back in 24 and fell asleep during the pregame practice and so never saw it.
- 1:08:00So he's taking a look today.
- 1:08:02The first man at bat in the fifth inning, Savage, it's the first pitch down to Epling
- 1:08:07and it's thrown out of first base for the first out of the fifth inning.
- 1:08:10One out of the fifth inning for the Senators and Al Simmons is at bat.
- 1:08:15Al Simmons, the Washington Leth fielder.
- 1:08:18He's got the wind up now to pitch the first one.

- 1:08:53Two and nothing is the count.
- 1:08:54The white's out there, smooths the dirt down in front of the slab.
- 1:08:59Then starts to wind up and pitches and Al starts to swing the stuff,

- 1:09:36and Walker comes all the way and on the right side.
- 1:09:39And Walker comes all the way and almost to the infield to make the catch
- 1:09:43and it's one out.
- 1:09:45Or rather two out in the fifth inning.
- 1:09:49Let's take a look down here at the question Ernie asked.
- 1:09:52He said it's covered if it's two outs instead of one.
- 1:09:54And it's two out in the fifth inning for the Washington Senators and so in effect.
- 1:09:59Oh, give me one of those six shooters.
- 1:10:01The other.
- 1:10:14There's our Monon friend George.

- 1:10:46And Joe Cool, the Washington first baseman, is at best.
- 1:10:50Cool up there for first base.
- 1:10:59Watching first base now looks to play gets ready to pitch the first one to Cool.
- 1:11:04Now he has the sign, there's the stretch, looks back at first base pitches.
- 1:11:08And it's a high one inside for ball one.

- 1:15:00And the pitch comes over to play fourth strike one. One strike on Mike.
- 1:15:14And there is ball one and the count is one ball and one strike on Pivich.
- 1:15:19One and one the count on Mike.
- 1:15:21Hayes on first base, one out in the fifth inning for the White Sox.
- 1:15:24Washington leading six to two.
- 1:15:31And he hits the next one, a line drive straight into the shortstop ten.
- 1:15:34He gets the ball, throws the first and the ball bounces out of Cool's glove.
- 1:15:38However, I think Hayes had managed to get back there just in time.
- 1:15:42Ball was well hit but straight into shortstop Travis Ham and he threw fast the first try to complete a double play.
- 1:15:50But Hayes got back and then the ball bounces out of Cool's glove anyway.
- 1:15:53However, it's two out in the fifth inning for the White Sox and Walker, Dixie Walker is at best.
- 1:16:00And the hitter swings in an easy bounder down to Meyer who gets a throw at the first base and Walker is out for the third out.
- 1:16:06So it's no runs, no hits, one man that's on base in the last half of the fifth inning for the White Sox.
- 1:16:13And the score at the end of the fifth inning, the Washington Senators are leading the White Sox by a score of six to two.
- 1:16:22And now again for just a moment we return to the studio.
- 1:16:25Stop fulfilling a technical fire chief gasoline.
- 1:16:28When you've tried fire chief in your car, tested it, given a thoroughgoing third degree trial under every driving condition,
- 1:16:33then and only then will you know what emergency action really means.
- 1:16:37Technical fire chief gasoline meets rigid specifications for emergency use, for use in fire engines, ambulances and police cars.
- 1:16:44With fire chief in the tank of your car, you get everything in power, speed and economy.
- 1:16:49That's why more tourists from coast to coast buy fire chief than any other single brand.
- 1:16:54So stop full of thankful of fire chief today.
- 1:16:56You'll get more for your money, yet you don't pay one cent more for fire chief than you do for ordinary gasoline.
- 1:17:01And now back to Comiskey Park for the continuation of the baseball game.
- 1:17:04Take it, Hal.
- 1:17:05I saw him.
- 1:17:07Back at the ball park for the start of the sixth inning, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:17:11The first man at bat for the Senators will be Meyer, Buddy Meyer, the second baseman.
- 1:17:19Left hand is hitter.
- 1:17:20He's already up there at the plate to start the sixth inning.
- 1:17:22Washington leading by a score of 6 to 2.
- 1:17:31And the first pitch is a wide one for ball one.
- 1:17:33One ball called on Meyer.
- 1:17:43One ball called, just a waste out there again, steps up to the hitter, steps back up to the plate.
- 1:17:48He was out of the batter's box.
- 1:17:50And it just rolls and he takes a ball wide and low, making it 2-0 on Meyer.
- 1:17:55Two balls and no strikes on Buddy Meyer.
- 1:17:57Washington's second baseman at bat to start the sixth inning, Washington leading 6 to 2.
- 1:18:03Kane again starts to wind up.
- 1:18:05Throws and the hitter takes a strike over the inside corner above knee-high.
- 1:18:09And so it's 2 and 1.
- 1:18:11Two balls and one strike.
- 1:18:17Kane again starts to wind up.
- 1:18:19Throws and the hitter swings and hits the highest line.
- 1:18:22And so it lets DLF make a third base halfling going back there and makes the catch over near the foul line for the first out of the sixth inning.
- 1:18:29One out of the sixth inning for the Senators.
- 1:18:32And Rick Farrell steps up there to the plate.
- 1:18:35Farrell is at bat.
- 1:18:37Always waiting for the infielders to get back to their position.
- 1:18:50And the sign starts to wind up.
- 1:18:52And throws and it's a strike over the outside corner above the knees.
- 1:18:56One strike on Farrell.
- 1:18:59One strike to count.
- 1:19:04Getting a sign once more.
- 1:19:05So let me say, Farrell discovers something wrong with the bat and starts back to the bench to get another one.
- 1:19:10And he falls through the crack in the handle of that one, which he didn't know about.
- 1:19:14So he throws it to the ground, takes another one from the bat for him, starts back up to the plate.
- 1:19:27Bonnie arrives at the plate.
- 1:19:30And Kane, smoothing the dirt down in front of the slabs, ready to pitch game once more.
- 1:19:35And they're getting a sign, starts to wind up.
- 1:19:39And pitches and hitters swings, hit a ball hard down to a burger who makes a nice stop on a very bad hop.
- 1:19:45And throws the first base, getting Farrell for the second out.
- 1:19:48And makes it two out in the sixth inning for the Senators.
- 1:19:52And Deshawn, the Washington pitcher, is coming up there to the plate.
- 1:19:56Deshawn is back.
- 1:20:02And he finally arrives there.
- 1:20:11Pays the pitcher, but the Senators are getting a sign, starts to wind up.
- 1:20:16And throws, and the hitter takes a strike over the heart of the plate about weight-high.
- 1:20:20One strike on Deshawn.
- 1:20:23One strike to count.
- 1:20:28Kane winds up again, throws, and Jimmy J gets the ball.
- 1:20:32Just missed the outside corner about across the way, dropped out of the catcher's glove.
- 1:20:36And it's one and one, one ball and one strike.
- 1:20:41One and one is the count with the pitcher winding up again.
- 1:20:43He throws, and there is the second ball.
- 1:20:45It's wide and low, making it two and one on Deshawn.
- 1:20:48Two balls and one strike.
- 1:20:54To end one and one count with the pitcher winding up again.
- 1:20:56He throws, and it's inside and low for the third ball, making it three and one on Deshawn.
- 1:21:02Three balls and one strike.
- 1:21:08Kane takes an easy wind up, throws again, and it's strike two.
- 1:21:11It barely caught the inside corner a little above the knees, making it three and two on Deshawn.
- 1:21:16Three balls and two strikes.
- 1:21:20He again starts to wind up.
- 1:21:22Throws, and the hitter swings right through the box, hits the ball, and in the center field for a base hit.
- 1:21:27The single to center field by Jimmy Deshawn, the Washington pitcher, puts him on first base.
- 1:21:33Two out in the sixth inning.
- 1:21:34And Almeida, the Washington center fielder, is at best.
- 1:21:39Hitter swings and fouls the first one into the second deck above and to the right of the plate.
- 1:21:43And it's strike one.
- 1:21:44One strike to count.
- 1:21:47The ball bounds out and over after being bumbled by some of the spectators up here.
- 1:21:51It goes down amongst the box seat occupants downstairs.
- 1:21:54It's one strike on Almeida.
- 1:22:01And the pitcher's ready again.
- 1:22:03Throws on its inside across the way for a ball, making it one and one.
- 1:22:07One ball and one strike.
- 1:22:12One and one is the count.
- 1:22:21One and one, just waiting there against the sign as Almeida shifts first, the bat first to one hand, then the other.
- 1:22:27Finally gets ready.
- 1:22:28As Kane pitches and the hitter swings, hit a ball in the center field.
- 1:22:31Pivich going way back and makes the catch out there.
- 1:22:34Oh, the third out.
- 1:22:35Pivich never hesitated.
- 1:22:37That ball had hardly left the bat before he had turned his back to the infield
- 1:22:40and was heading straight for that bleach at wall.
- 1:22:43And he started watching back over his shoulder and whirled at the last minute to make that catch and deep center for the third out.
- 1:22:48So it's no run.
- 1:22:49One hit, one man left on base in the first half of the sixth inning.
- 1:22:53And the score is still 6-2 in favor of Washington as the White Sox come to bat on the last half of the sixth
- 1:23:01with Zeke Fenora again the first man at bat.
- 1:23:05I don't know how many of the listeners have heard the one unusual bit of baseball news today.
- 1:23:11Down there in St. Louis they've had quite a shakeup.
- 1:23:13And manager Hornsby and coach Charlie O'Leary, who has incidentally resigned from Chicago, have been relieved.
- 1:23:20And for the remainder of the season at least, Jim Bottomley has been the main manager of the Browns.
- 1:23:24And Gabby Street, who formerly managed the Cardinals and has recently been up there at St. Paul,
- 1:23:31has been called in to assist Bottomley as coach.
- 1:23:35And that's the reorganization today down there in St. Louis for the American League club.
- 1:23:44Fenora is up there at the plate now, starts the last half of the sixth inning.
- 1:23:50She waits out there to get the time, starts to wind up.
- 1:23:54And throws and Zeke takes a slow one and it's a curve over the outside corner above knee high.
- 1:23:58Or strike one, one strike on Fenora.
- 1:24:09She's waiting there for the next time.
- 1:24:11Seems to have it, starts to wind up.
- 1:24:15And Sitches in there to take the wide one across the catch for ball one.
- 1:24:18So it's one and one, one ball and one strike on Fenora.
- 1:24:22One and one to count.
- 1:24:28One and one, but she winds up again.
- 1:24:30Throw, Zeke swings, did a long drive to center field, but Almeyda is over there waiting for it, has it.
- 1:24:35And it's one out in the sixth inning.
- 1:24:38One out in the sixth inning for the White Docks.
- 1:24:41And Red Clip, the White Dock left fielder, is at bat.
- 1:24:45Red Red Clip up there now.
- 1:24:50Whitehead is doing a little warming up on the bullpen, but I believe it's just to get a good loosening up
- 1:24:54because he's expected to open against the Yankees next Friday.
- 1:24:58Remember the Yankees here are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a doubleheader Sunday.
- 1:25:02First pitch to Red Clip is a strike over the outside corner about way tight.
- 1:25:06One strike to count.
- 1:25:10She's ready again, winds up once more.
- 1:25:13Throws and there's the ball, a third ball inside.
- 1:25:16I called that other one a strike, apparently it was a ball. I thought I saw the umpire's arm come up on it.
- 1:25:21It was ball one, so it's ball two now, according to that board.
- 1:25:26And there is ball three inside across the way, making it three and nothing.
- 1:25:30Devolved and no strikes.
- 1:25:36Once more, DeShon starts to wind up.
- 1:25:38Pitches, and there's a strike down the middle way side.
- 1:25:41Throw and the count is three and one.
- 1:25:44Three and one to count.
- 1:25:50And there's the fourth ball, line wide right flick gets the big time ball.
- 1:25:54She's on first base with one out on the sixth inning for the white stop.
- 1:25:57And Luke Appling, white stop, short stop, here's a test.
- 1:26:01Luke Appling up there at the plate.
- 1:26:15Luke takes the first one and it's wide across the knees for ball one.
- 1:26:19One ball called.
- 1:26:30DeShon gives the ball in there for a look over by the umpire, but has it again, pitches.
- 1:26:36And it's a curve ball wide and low for ball two.
- 1:26:39Making it count two and nothing.
- 1:26:41Two balls and no strikes on Appling.
- 1:26:44That's the one first base, one out in the sixth inning for the white stop.
- 1:26:49Throw it again for a strike over the inside corner about knee high.
- 1:26:53Appling turns and walks out of the box, apparently Luke is a little bit surprised at that.
- 1:26:57Finally sets it back up to the plate and the count is two and one.
- 1:26:59Two balls and one strike.
- 1:27:09Two and one, it seems ready again.
- 1:27:11Throws and it strikes two right down the alley just a little below the waist.
- 1:27:15Making it two and two.
- 1:27:16Two balls and two strikes on Appling.
- 1:27:19One out, reds keep on first base in the sixth inning for the stop.
- 1:27:22Washington leading six to two.
- 1:27:24DeShon pitches again and Appling gets the third ball.
- 1:27:27One inside across the chest.
- 1:27:29Run the count to three and two.
- 1:27:31Three balls and two strikes.
- 1:27:43Seems to have the sign again.
- 1:27:44Takes another look at the man at first.
- 1:27:45Pitches the runners on the goal as Appling hits the ball right back at the shortstop.
- 1:27:49And he throws the second base and it's both out.
- 1:27:53Although the play at second was a little close.
- 1:27:55The reds have one off the base and then went back to the base again.
- 1:27:59And he's standing there on second base while they're trying to decide amongst the umpires what is what.
- 1:28:06Appling is arguing with umpire Johnson that he thought that the runner was safe at second and thanks is out there.
- 1:28:12The umpire got himself into the argument by the fact that he spread his hand to indicate safe.
- 1:28:18And then after the ball was thrown to first base, lifted his hand to his shoulder indicating out.
- 1:28:23If he had raised his hand to begin with I don't think there's been any argument.
- 1:28:27Now a couple of players are gathered around him because he did.
- 1:28:30He spread his hand parallel to the ground which is the usual sign to indicate safe.
- 1:28:35And then as the ball started on its way to first base the one hand came up about even with his shoulder.
- 1:28:41I noticed that but figured that he had started to call him safe and realized he was out and made the change in play.
- 1:28:47But naturally the ball players are going to if possible remind him of a situation like that.
- 1:28:52So anyway it's a double play making it three out.
- 1:28:55No runs, no hits in the sixth inning for the White Sox and the score standing six to two in favor of Washington at the end of the sixth inning.
- 1:29:02And now again for scores and batteries from other cities we return to the studio.
- 1:29:06The National League, the Cubs took the first game from the Phillies four to one and at the end of the sixth inning of the second game lead the Phillies five to nothing.
- 1:29:13The Cubs five, Phillies nothing at the end of the sixth inning of the second game with French and O'Dea at the Cub battery for the second game for the Phillies.
- 1:29:18Jog and snap with opening while Cahey pitching in the third inning.
- 1:29:21The Brooklyn Dodgers blank the Pirates today six to nothing with Bowman and Todd the Pirate battery for the winning Dodgers Jeff Cote and Spencer.
- 1:29:28The Reds lead the Giants at the end of the seventh inning six to four with Hollingsworth and Davis the Reds battery for the Giants Castleman and Danning, Smith in the fifth and Kaufman in the seventh.
- 1:29:36The Bees beat the Cardinals in the first game five to one and lead the Cardinals at the end of the fifth inning of the second game two to one with Dizzy Dean and Owen working for the Cardinals in the second game for the Bees, Lanning and Miller.
- 1:29:47In St. Louis the Yanks and the Browns are tied at the end of the first inning nothing to nothing with Wicker and Dickey the Yankee battery for the Browns, Cupeau and Hemsley.
- 1:29:56In Detroit the Red Sox lead the Tigers at the end of the first half of the fifth inning four to one with Grove and Desautel the Red Sox battery for the Tigers Bridges and Hayworth.
- 1:30:04The Indians won the first game of the double header from the Philadelphia Athletics nine to eight with Bob Peller the winning pitcher and in the second game the warm up pitchers for the A's, Rolf for the Indians, Galehouse.
- 1:30:15And now back to Kamiski Park and Halton, Deggit Hough.
- 1:30:18Back to the ballpark for the seventh inning ladies and gentlemen Lewis is the first man at bat for Washington.
- 1:30:24Puts the first pitch for a ball foul the next one into the second deck to the left for a strike and now the pitcher winds up the throws again.
- 1:30:31But he hits the ball hard into right field for a good clean line single.
- 1:30:35The bring to the right by Lewis putting him on first base nobody out of the seventh inning for Washington and Travis the Washington shortstop is at bat. Travis up there for the play.
- 1:30:50Clean out there smooths it down gets ready to pitch the first one to Travis.
- 1:30:57Get your side there's a stretch you look to first base and throws over to first and the runner's back and plenty of time no nobody out on the seventh inning Lewis on first base.
- 1:31:06Of course six to two in favor of Washington Travis is back.
- 1:31:10Watch the first base throw and there swings in a high fly coming down foul back to third base and back into the seats out of reach.
- 1:31:17One strike on Travis one strike to count.
- 1:31:26One strike at the count the pitcher waiting out there again.
- 1:31:40Smooth that dirt down in front of the slide and face the plate once more.
- 1:31:45Quite a while finally has a side.
- 1:31:49And pitchers in the hitter swings it a bounder down Hayes goes far to his left grab for it but it bounds on out into right field and the runner from first keeps right on for third base.
- 1:31:59Hayes dashed far to his left grab for the ball but it bounded took a bad hop and went over his hand on out into right field for a base hit.
- 1:32:07Moving Lewis to third base and the center's have runners on first and third.
- 1:32:12Nobody out on the seventh inning and Simmons Al Simmons the Washington left fielder is at bat.
- 1:32:19Simmons up there at the plate.
- 1:32:22Regney is now warming up to the starts alongside of Whitehead who I believe as I said is tuning up for here the first Friday.
- 1:32:28And first pitch to Simmons the third ball wide for ball one.
- 1:32:33One ball called.
- 1:32:40And ready out there once more now.
- 1:32:42Throw up in the hitter swings hit a ball into right field for another base hit.
- 1:32:45One run is called the runner first makes the turn but Walker's throw across the infield.
- 1:32:49Two halflings hold him at second base.
- 1:32:52So Simmons single to rec scores Lewis.
- 1:32:54It's Simmons third run batted in today.
- 1:32:57And Washington now leads the White Stats by a score of seven to two in the seventh inning.
- 1:33:03Have runners on first and second with nobody out one run already home.
- 1:33:07And Stone the right fielder is at bat.
- 1:33:10Johnny's already up there at the plate infield playing for an expected front.
- 1:33:15Keen looks back at second base and pitches and Stone instead swings at the high flying short left field.
- 1:33:20That's just coming in very fast and gets it for the first out of the seventh inning.
- 1:33:28One out of the seventh inning for Washington.
- 1:33:30And Joe Cool the Washington first baseman is at bat.
- 1:33:34Cool up there at the plate.
- 1:33:35From the hitter swings hit a high flying to deep right center.
- 1:33:38Walker's way, way back there.
- 1:33:39So is Kravitz.
- 1:33:40Mike calls for the ball.
- 1:33:41Makes the catch and makes the throw into second base.
- 1:33:44Holding the runner at first but the runner from second goes on to third after the catch.
- 1:33:51So it's two out of the seventh inning for Washington.
- 1:33:54Have runners now on first and third with one run home.
- 1:33:57And the man at bat is Buddy Meyer the Washington second baseman.
- 1:34:01Buddy stands there at the plate waiting as Keen gets his time, gets ready to pitch the first one to him.
- 1:34:13There's the stretch, looks at the runner first and third and pitches and the hitter hits the high flying to right field.
- 1:34:19Walker's back waiting for the ball, backs up a little more and makes the catch.
- 1:34:22Although he's throwing him a heel down as he's caught the ball as though he again had lost it in that tough time that they have to battle out there in the outfield.
- 1:34:30Buddy made the catch for the third out.
- 1:34:32And so in the first half of the seventh inning Washington had one run, three hits, two men left on base and the score is seven to one in favor of the Senators as the light shots come to bat in the last half of the seventh inning.
- 1:34:48The crowd is up for the seventh inning stretch and the first light shot hitter will be Berger.
- 1:34:58The broadcast of the light shot Washington game comes to you direct from Comiskey Park, the home of the light shots at Chicago, as a presentation of your neighbor, a Texaco dealer, distributor of Texaco Fire Chief gasoline.
- 1:35:10The broadcast reaches you through station WCFL in Chicago.
- 1:35:15Berger's already up there to take.
- 1:35:28Announcing where the buses are to take the lines back downtown and anytime they want to go out there they can go and get them.
- 1:35:35But I don't imagine many of them will want to leave yet.
- 1:35:38There's a laugh when through these stands when he said they're there now if you want to leave now.
- 1:35:43They all want to wait until the end of this ball game.
- 1:35:46Here's Berger about to start the last half of the seventh inning with a light shot.
- 1:35:52I said the plate as Deshawn looks around towards the field, gets ready to pitch, stands there getting his time.
- 1:35:59Fires his windup throw and the hitter swings in a high fly coming back out over the stand above third base and it's one strike on Berger.
- 1:36:09One strike to count.
- 1:36:16This is waiting out there again.
- 1:36:18Gets his time, he's winding up.
- 1:36:21And throws and the hitter swings in, misses the curve ball outside for strike two and it's two strikes on Berger.
- 1:36:27Two strikes to count.
- 1:36:31The pitcher again starts to wind up.
- 1:36:33Throws and the hitter takes a wide one across the knees and it's ball one. So it's one ball and two strikes on both.
- 1:36:40One and two to count.
- 1:36:47Berger takes the next one for the second strike, rather third strike over the heart of the plate just above the knees and he's called out on strike for the first half of the seventh inning.
- 1:36:56Didn't agree with that very much but didn't have much of a complaint to make.
- 1:37:00And now Luke Sewell steps up there to the plate.
- 1:37:04Sewell with that.
- 1:37:07Regney keeping warm and might go in there in case they use a pinch hitter for Kane this inning.
- 1:37:13And Sewell takes the first pitch for a good strike over the heart of the plate about way high.
- 1:37:17One strike on Sewell.
- 1:37:22Throwing weight there again, has his time once more, starts to wind up.
- 1:37:26Pitchers and hitter swings and hits a slow boundary to the infield.
- 1:37:30Third baseman Lewis gets it, throws the first, but Cool had to make a fine reaching one-handed stab of the ball.
- 1:37:35A high throw to the left but he got it and held onto it on a nice play for the second out.
- 1:37:40So it's two outs in the seventh inning for the white shot and Kane, the pitcher, is coming up to bat.
- 1:37:48Kane is on his way up there.
- 1:37:54Slowly up that plate.
- 1:37:58Barney Rives.
- 1:38:01Now Mr. Stratton is going to take a little work out off there in the bullpen also to loosen up a little today I reckon.
- 1:38:08And Kane flings the first pitch and misses the curve ball inside or strike one.
- 1:38:17One strike is the count.
- 1:38:20He throws again, hitter swings and misses the curve ball or strike two.
- 1:38:24And it's two strikes on Kane.
- 1:38:27Two strikes at the top of the pitcher, ready once more.
- 1:38:31Winds up.
- 1:38:33Pitchers and hitter swings and misses striking out for the third out in the seventh inning making it no runs, no hits in the seventh inning for the white shot.
- 1:38:42And at the end of the seventh inning the white shot and Washington Senators stand with Washington leading 7-2.
- 1:38:50Washington 7, white shot 2 at the end of the seventh inning.
- 1:38:55Don't drive a car that is full of squeaks and rattles.
- 1:38:59Let your technical dealer give your car a Marfax job.
- 1:39:03Marfax will get rid of all squeaks and rattles and make your car run smoother and ride easier.
- 1:39:09It lasts longer too.
- 1:39:11It's a Marfax lubrication job.
- 1:39:23First man at bat in the eighth inning for Washington will be Rick Barlow who is already on his way up there to the plate.
- 1:39:52Kane has finished the warm-up and Barlow stepping up there to the plate.
- 1:40:17And there's the first pitch too, Rick Barlow, the ball that came inside and low for ball one.
- 1:40:22One ball call.
- 1:40:31And there's the next one.
- 1:40:32He started a swing stop but he'd gone about through on the ball, a high-pass ball inside and he missed a close strike one.
- 1:40:38So it's one-on-one, one ball and one strike on Rick.
- 1:40:43Kane starts to wind up again, he throws and Barlow takes the ball to his inside across the way, making it two balls and one strike on Rick Barlow.
- 1:40:51Two-and-one is the count.
- 1:40:57There is the next one, a beauty down the left field line for a base hit.
- 1:41:00The boys in the south both end get out of the way as the ball goes through to the left field wall and Red Clip Getter throws it in the third base on a long hop as Barlow pulls up at second base.
- 1:41:11It's a double down the left field line by Rick Barlow putting him on second base with nobody out in the eighth inning for Washington and Jimmy DeShong is the best.
- 1:41:23Washington is leading the White Sox by a score of 7-2.
- 1:41:35If you're watching second base throws then, ah, our friend drives something new that time.
- 1:41:42He choked up on the bat, swung around his old punt and as the infielder started in he pulled the bat back and took a little chop swing at the ball but bowled it into the stand at the right of the plate or strike one.
- 1:41:52One strike on DeShong and the pitcher waiting there again.
- 1:41:58Barney seems ready, takes another look back at second base pitcher and Jimmy was around ready to bunt again but the pitch came high and wide so they let it go for ball one and the count is one ball and one strike on DeShong.
- 1:42:10One and one the count.
- 1:42:16One and one, takes another look at second throws and DeShong bunts the ball right back to Kane who turns, starts to throw to third and sees that the man has gone back to second so he whirls and throws to first and he threw wide but Hayes got the ball,
- 1:42:31reaching way out to the left, hung onto the base and then Zique Benoit's hand went sweeping into the air in a typical umpire's out motion but there wasn't any question about it so nobody could get mad.
- 1:42:42So the bunt resulted in nothing but getting the man at first base because the runner from second did not advance so it's not a sacrifice naturally.
- 1:42:51Just plain infield out on the bunt so it's one out of the eight thinning for Washington.
- 1:42:55Farrell is still on second base and Almeida the lead old man on center fielder left handed hitter is up there at the plate.
- 1:43:02Almeida at bat, he throws and now swings at a high fly to right field, walkers back under the ball, comes in under it a little bit, makes the catch and throws hard.
- 1:43:11Oh look at that throw across the infield, holy cat.
- 1:43:14Walkers through that ball to within five feet, a third base and straight as a die and gets a terrific run that will cause from the fans for that great throw.
- 1:43:22That's the arm that was weak last year, so weak they had to tear it apart and put it together again.
- 1:43:27He's really been doing some throwing and they sort of respected that too.
- 1:43:32That runner just made a start for third and then went back and stood there.
- 1:43:35Of course he isn't particularly a fast man but even then very usually the man at second on the ball hits that deep.
- 1:43:42We'll go to third anyway.
- 1:43:44So it's two out of the eighth thinning for Washington.
- 1:43:46Farrell is still on second base and Lewis, Buddy Lewis the third baseman, another left hander hitter at bat, hits the first pitch, a long hopper down to Appling and gets it.
- 1:43:54Throw to first and Lewis is out for the third out, ending the eighth thinning, the first half of the eighth.
- 1:43:59No runs, one hit, one man left on base.
- 1:44:02Game pitch, good ball there, the first man up doubled and he was still on second base when the inning was over.
- 1:44:08So it's seven to two in favor of Washington as the White Sox come to bat in the last half of the eighth thinning with Jackie Hayes, the White Sox second base winner lead out man, the first man at bat.
- 1:44:19Hayes up there to play.
- 1:44:21Whoa, got a fraud in the throw.
- 1:44:24The White Sox Washington game comes to you direct from Comiskey Park.
- 1:44:34Home of the White Sox in Chicago, as a presentation of your neighborhood Texaco dealer, distributor of Texaco, Fire Chief Kathleen.
- 1:44:42The broadcast reaches you through station WCFL in Chicago.
- 1:44:47Hayes waits there as DeShong goes through his warm-up.
- 1:44:51Jackie steps up there now and DeShong on the mound gets ready to pitch the first one to him.
- 1:45:22Starts to wind up and pitches and the header takes a high one inside for ball one.
- 1:45:30One ball called, one ball called.
- 1:45:37Ready again, starts to wind up once more.
- 1:45:40Throw in Jackie, takes a strike over the heart of the plate just above the knees and it's one and one.
- 1:45:45Brown and Stratton are both warming up now and they're both coming out for a stop.
- 1:45:49Brown I think could go in there if they could suddenly get a big rally going here and get down far enough for the pinch hitter.
- 1:45:56The hitter hits the ball back over the pitcher's head and Meyer gets the ball near second base and makes a nice underhand flip throw to first in order to retire Hayes by an eyelatch for the first out in the eighth inning.
- 1:46:08One out in the eighth inning for the White Sox and Mike Krivitz is at bat.
- 1:46:12White Sox has still made only three hits off DeShong, the last one being Benoit's double in the fourth which was really a misjudged fly on the part of Stone.
- 1:46:25It's going to be awesome to get started but it starts pretty soon.
- 1:46:29Krivitz hits the first pitch and easy bound it down to Travis who gets it through the first end.
- 1:46:34Krivitz is out for the second out.
- 1:46:36So it's two out in the eighth inning for the White Sox and Walker is at bat.
- 1:46:53Takes a look around getting ready to pitch the first one to Dixie.
- 1:46:55Finally starts to wind up slow and Walker swings it about it down to the left end.
- 1:46:59It bounds fast, a shortstop and out second base in the grass and I believe it will be a base hit because the ball took a very nasty hop and the shortstop had to reach for it and it bound it past him.
- 1:47:17And it's a base hit for Walker on a ball that took a nasty hop fast Travis a shortstop.
- 1:47:25So it puts Dixie on first base with two out in the eighth inning and Zeke Benoit is at bat.
- 1:47:31Benoit is up there at the plate and the first pitch is wide and low for ball one.
- 1:47:37One ball called.
- 1:47:46And a pitch of throws again.
- 1:47:47Zeke takes a high one inside, full ball and the count is one and one.
- 1:47:51One ball and one strike.
- 1:47:53One and one on Benoit.
- 1:47:58To wait for the next time.
- 1:48:00There he has it.
- 1:48:01There's the stretch.
- 1:48:02Takes a look at first base pitchers.
- 1:48:04And it's a curve ball wide and low for ball two.
- 1:48:07So the count is two balls and one strike.
- 1:48:09Two and one on Zeke Benoit.
- 1:48:15Once more the pitcher steps on the slab and jumps his cap.
- 1:48:18Looks to be hitter.
- 1:48:20Gets his sign.
- 1:48:21He's ready to pitch.
- 1:48:22Takes a look at the man at first base pitchers.
- 1:48:24And Zeke takes a high one inside for ball three.
- 1:48:27And it's three balls and one strike on Benoit.
- 1:48:31Three and one the count.
- 1:48:36Washington leading the White Sox seven to two in the last half of the eighth inning.
- 1:48:40Deshaun ready again.
- 1:48:41Pitchers and Benoit flings and hits the ball foul.
- 1:48:44Hits the catcher's mask.
- 1:48:46And then the protector and bounds off to the right.
- 1:48:48But he gets it and opposes back.
- 1:48:50The pitcher, Deshaun, stands out there on the mound.
- 1:48:53Rubbing that ball up.
- 1:48:55Finally turns around.
- 1:48:56Watches the plate again while he finishes rubbing up the ball.
- 1:49:00Steps on the slab.
- 1:49:01Suddenly steps off.
- 1:49:02Takes a look at the runner at first.
- 1:49:04Kuhl holds his hands out and starts saying, come on, if you want to throw the ball, throw it.
- 1:49:07But he throws it in.
- 1:49:08The plate is set so the umpire can look it over.
- 1:49:11Three and two is the count.
- 1:49:14Byowans examined it very carefully.
- 1:49:16Hands it back to the catcher.
- 1:49:17Zeke shakes the edge.
- 1:49:18And the ball is thrown back out to the pitcher with a count of three balls and two strikes on Benoit.
- 1:49:23Three and two the count.
- 1:49:33Wipes it out there for the next time.
- 1:49:34There's the stretch again.
- 1:49:35He pitches.
- 1:49:36And with the runner on the goal, Benoit follows the ball onto the roof of the stand above first base.
- 1:49:41And it's three and two still.
- 1:49:42Three balls and two strikes.
- 1:49:44On Zeke.
- 1:49:50Three and two the count.
- 1:49:57Benoit's getting ready to pitch again.
- 1:50:03Finally has his time.
- 1:50:04Pitchers with the runner on the goal.
- 1:50:05The hitter hits one foul down the left field line.
- 1:50:07Hard hit boundary.
- 1:50:09And it's three and two still on Zeke.
- 1:50:11Three balls and two strikes.
- 1:50:19Three and two the count.
- 1:50:31Pitcher team's ready again.
- 1:50:32Throw.
- 1:50:33And it's a wide one for ball four.
- 1:50:35Zeke gets the base on ball.
- 1:50:37It moves Walker to second base.
- 1:50:42And the rip rat comes up there to the plate for the stock.
- 1:50:45That's been up there three times.
- 1:50:47He forced Walker for the second out in the first inning.
- 1:50:51Round it out to the shortstop for the first down in the fourth.
- 1:50:54Walken was forced to second base the front end of the double play at the end of the sixth inning.
- 1:50:58And he's up there now with two out in the eighth inning.
- 1:51:01Mike's touch runner's on first and second.
- 1:51:03Score seven to two in favor of Washington.
- 1:51:05And the first pitch inside and low for ball one.
- 1:51:08One ball foul.
- 1:51:17They're ready out there again.
- 1:51:18Zeke's another look at second.
- 1:51:19Pitcher's and Ratcliffe hits the ball in the center of the upper base yet.
- 1:51:22They're on it for second.
- 1:51:23It's around third on his way home.
- 1:51:24And Bonora drops and races back to second base just in time.
- 1:51:29Made the turn for third.
- 1:51:30Return and dash back to second.
- 1:51:32Make sure being safe somewhere and Trill was almost out.
- 1:51:35However, Ratcliffe's single to center.
- 1:51:37Scores Walker.
- 1:51:38Make the score seven to three in favor of Washington.
- 1:51:42And Luke Affling is at bat.
- 1:51:47Affling up there to break.
- 1:51:51His runner's on first and second.
- 1:51:53Two out, one run home in the eighth.
- 1:51:54And Washington leading seven to three.
- 1:51:56Affling lined out to the center fielder for the third out in the first inning.
- 1:51:59Washington was left on base in the fourth and hit into the double play at the end of the sixth inning.
- 1:52:04He's up there now.
- 1:52:05White Sox runners on first and second.
- 1:52:07Two out, one run home in the eighth inning.
- 1:52:09Washington leading seven to three.
- 1:52:12And Luke takes the first pitch inside and low for ball one.
- 1:52:16One ball called.
- 1:52:27Seems to have a sign again.
- 1:52:28There's a stretch.
- 1:52:29Take another look back at second base pitches for a strike.
- 1:52:32Low curve, knee inside.
- 1:52:33Caught the heart of the plate about knee high.
- 1:52:35And it's one and one.
- 1:52:38My goodness, Thornton Lee.
- 1:52:40Pitched yesterday and one.
- 1:52:41He's out there warming up for the Sox along with Brown.
- 1:52:44And the hitter hits the ball.
- 1:52:45Ball down past third base.
- 1:52:47And it's one and two.
- 1:52:49Pitching inside, Affling, for some reason rather.
- 1:52:54One and two is the count.
- 1:52:55One ball and two strikes.
- 1:53:05And Pitcher wakes up there again.
- 1:53:06Gets the new ball to pitch.
- 1:53:07Teams ready.
- 1:53:11Take a look back at second base.
- 1:53:12Thornton Affling swings in a pop fly out back at second base.
- 1:53:15Travis a shortstop and Meyer the second baseman there.
- 1:53:18And Buddy comes into the infield, catches the ball.
- 1:53:21Almost dropped it but manages to scoop it in against his chest.
- 1:53:24And hang onto it for the third out.
- 1:53:27So it's one run, two hits, and two men left on base in the last half of the eighth inning for the White Sox.
- 1:53:34And at the end of the eighth inning, Washington is leading the White Sox by a score of seven to three.
- 1:53:40Washington leading the White Sox seven to three at the end of the eighth inning.
- 1:53:54You'll start saving money the minute you fill the crack case of your car with new Tectico motor oil.
- 1:54:01Tectico's perforal film is tough.
- 1:54:04It resists heat.
- 1:54:06It lasts longer.
- 1:54:08You'll be surprised how little oil your car will use when it has new Tectico motor oil.
- 1:54:14So dry our crankcase full right away.
- 1:54:26First man to start on the ninth inning for Washington is Travis the shortstop.
- 1:54:30He's already up there to play.
- 1:54:32Kane finishes his warm-up, moves the dirt down in front of the slats, stands there watching the plate, and gets ready to pitch.
- 1:54:40Getting his sign out there.
- 1:54:42Finally starts his wind-up.
- 1:54:46Pitches and the hitter takes a strike over the heart of the plate just above the knee.
- 1:54:50One strike on Travis.
- 1:54:54Strike at the count.
- 1:54:55The way there again has a sign once more.
- 1:54:57Starts to wind up.
- 1:54:59Pitches and the hitter takes it inside across the waist for ball one.
- 1:55:02And the count is one ball and one strike on Travis, one and one.
- 1:55:12Hits the next one for a foul down the left field line and into the second deck.
- 1:55:17Hits one and two, one ball and two strikes.
- 1:55:26One and two to count, but he walks slowly up onto the slide again.
- 1:55:30Stands there getting his sign as he watches his catcher.
- 1:55:36And finally starts to wind up.
- 1:55:38Pitches and the hitter swings and fouls the ball back to the screen.
- 1:55:41It's still one and two.
- 1:55:42Ed Linkey is doing a little warming up down the right field both ends for the tenors.
- 1:55:53One and two to count, but it's waiting out there again.
- 1:55:57Stands there getting his sign, winds up.
- 1:56:01And pitches and the hitter swings it an easy bounder down the haze.
- 1:56:04It gets it on the second half, throws the first and Travis is out for the first out of the ninth inning.
- 1:56:09One out of the ninth inning for the tenors.
- 1:56:13Simmons, the Washington left fielder is at bat.
- 1:56:26Simmons up there to play.
- 1:56:31He has his sign, he's winding up.
- 1:56:34And throws and now swings and hits the ball hard and haze.
- 1:56:36Leaps into the air to make the play.
- 1:56:38One-handed stab of that ball and hang onto it for the second out.
- 1:56:42That's a nice play by Jackie.
- 1:56:44And it's two out of the ninth inning for the tenors.
- 1:56:46There's Stone, Johnny Stone, the Washington right fielder at bat.
- 1:56:51Stone up there to play.
- 1:56:59He starts to wind up.
- 1:57:01Throws and Stone takes it inside and low for ball one.
- 1:57:04Ball rolls back from the catcher until he gets another ball and throws it out to the pitcher.
- 1:57:09He loves it up a little bit.
- 1:57:20He has his sign once more, winds up.
- 1:57:22Throws and Stone starts to swing stuff.
- 1:57:24The ball hits the bat and goes far up into the second deck down in front of it to our left a little bit.
- 1:57:29And it's one and one.
- 1:57:30One ball and one strike.
- 1:57:34One and one to count.
- 1:57:37Seems ready out there again.
- 1:57:39Stands there watching the catcher for the sign.
- 1:57:43Starts to wind up.
- 1:57:47Still winding up until the hitter steps out of the box.
- 1:57:50He took such a long session out there swinging his arms back and forth.
- 1:57:55In fact, he even looks away over towards the dugout.
- 1:57:58And now the pitcher winds up and pitches and Stone swings it high flying to center field.
- 1:58:03The hitter stands there waiting now. He jogs three or four steps to the right. He's jogging in a little.
- 1:58:07And makes the catch for the third out.
- 1:58:09So it's no runs, no hits.
- 1:58:12In the ninth inning for Washington, no hits.
- 1:58:16And the score is still 7-3 in favor of the center.
- 1:58:20So the white shots come to bat in the last half of the ninth inning with Berger.
- 1:58:25Berger the Washington third baseman, the first man at bat.
- 1:58:39Well, somebody going to bat for Berger. Mr. Rosenthal, Larry Rosenthal is up there to bat in place of Berger.
- 1:58:45In the ninth inning, he's already waiting there swinging a couple of bats.
- 1:58:53White shot's last chance to get back in this ball game because the Senators have a four-run lead
- 1:58:58and are leading 7-3 going into the last half of the ninth.
- 1:59:12Larry steps up there at the plate now to start the last half of the ninth inning.
- 1:59:16And Deshawn stands there waiting.
- 1:59:19He's still keeping all ready and warm out there in the right field bullpen.
- 1:59:26As he throws that first one, it's inside across the way for ball one.
- 1:59:37And as he winds up again, throws, Larry swings, hits the bounder down the first baseline.
- 1:59:41Cool get that races for the bag.
- 1:59:43And they slide in and the runner is safe.
- 1:59:46And the ball is straightened to the base.
- 1:59:49Mr. John was turning over and the runner and fielder both slid for the bag.
- 1:59:54And the umpire calls time now while he straightens the base.
- 1:59:57Rosenthal beats it out for a base hit.
- 2:00:00They both slid for the base and Larry slid in there just ahead of him and gets credit for a base hit.
- 2:00:11And the strike now.
- 2:00:22Dool is up there at the plate now to start his turn at bat in the ninth inning with Rosenthal on first base.
- 2:00:28Haas is already out here to bat in place of Kane.
- 2:00:31And the first pitch is a strike down the middle with Luke let's go by for strike one.
- 2:00:37One strike to count.
- 2:00:40Ready out there again, throws and through swings, hit a little looping fly in the short left field.
- 2:00:44Short stop going back and makes the catch back there for the second out, first out rather, second man up.
- 2:00:52I'm getting a little ahead of myself.
- 2:00:54And it's one out in the ninth inning for the White Sox with Haas now batting in place of Kane.
- 2:00:59Haas batting for Kane.
- 2:01:04Rosenthal on first base, one out in the ninth inning for the White Sox.
- 2:01:08And Haas is batting in place of Kane.
- 2:01:14Watch the first base pitches and Muell takes a wide one across the depth for ball one.
- 2:01:19One ball called.
- 2:01:23Last half of the ninth, Washington leading seven to three.
- 2:01:27Throws again and Muell takes ball two.
- 2:01:29It's wide across the knees this time and it's two and nothing, two balls and no strikes on Haas.
- 2:01:36One nothing is the count.
- 2:01:40Pitches and throws again and it's a strike over the outside corner across the knees making it two and one.
- 2:01:45Two balls and one strike on Haas.
- 2:01:49Two and one to count. Pitches ready out there again.
- 2:01:57Swings the next one in and easy bound to Meyer who throws the second and throws the first is not completed
- 2:02:03because Haas was across the bag and Chavis merely held the ball but Rosenthal is forced to second base Meyer,
- 2:02:09Chavis for the second out in the ninth inning bringing Haas, the lead off man, to bat.
- 2:02:15Haas up there to plate.
- 2:02:28He's waiting out there to pitch now to Jackie and they're getting his time.
- 2:02:34Watch the first base and throws and Haas hits a long drive to center field.
- 2:02:37But Almeida's back waiting for the ball and gets it for the third out and the ball game is over.
- 2:02:45With the four standing seven to three in favor of the Washington club ending the White Sox winning streak at six straight.
- 2:02:54No runs, one hit, one man left on base in the last half of the ninth inning.
- 2:03:02And the total, the Senators had seven runs, twelve hits, no errors, and seven men left on the bases.
- 2:03:14And the White Sox had three runs, six hits, one error, and seven men left on the bases.
- 2:03:25The winning pitcher of course was Deshawn.
- 2:03:27The losing pitcher was Dietrich and the time of the game was one hour and fifty-four minutes.
- 2:03:31No game here tomorrow. We'll do the cup game by wire on the air.
- 2:03:35And then on Friday the New York Yankees are here to open their four game series, single games Friday and Saturday, and a double hitter on Sunday.
- 2:03:42All of the reserved seats and box seats are sold for Sunday, but 40,000 grand stand seats and 5,000 bleacher seats will be placed on sale Sunday morning.
- 2:03:52So there's still plenty of room for everybody.
- 2:03:53Well that's all for now.
- 2:03:54So Hal Totten speaking for Uncle George as well as himself.
- 2:03:57Good afternoon from Comiskey Park and we return to the studio.
