- 0:57and it intermittent. I haven't.
- 1:01Come up with a full schedule on that, just yet, that maybe
- 1:04something in the works. But anyway, using this platform
- 1:06here right now, just to kind of reach some new ears, hopefully,
- 1:10engage in some people, all my contact information, in case you
- 1:14want to get ahold of me, is you can go to my YouTube channel.
- 1:17It's all in the description of the videos.
- 1:19I've got an email address, midgard, musings, Tian at
- 1:21gmail.com and then any of the social media platforms that I
- 1:25have, which is just right now, the Facebook and YouTube
- 1:28platforms any of those direct message, Options.
- 1:32You can always get a hold of me there.
- 1:34But today, we're, we're talking about the runes a little bit.
- 1:38I mentioned earlier that You know, the Elder futhark runes
- 1:43that we use a lot of Heaton's use nowadays in magical, and
- 1:49esoteric divination type type stuff.
- 1:54It. You know, the the history of the
- 1:58runes is a little bit murky when it comes to the how they were
- 2:02used magically. So a lot of what we do nowadays
- 2:06is kind of a plethora of other information that we kind of
- 2:10have. I think collected over the years
- 2:13into doing the way we do it. We talked a little bit earlier
- 2:15about how people would sometimes do.
- 2:17What's called Rooms spreads where they will kind of lay them
- 2:21out in a specific pattern? Other folks like myself prefer
- 2:25the cast. Method where they will do, you
- 2:28know, grab a handful and cast them onto a cloth or on to a
- 2:31surface. There's also a single Rune
- 2:34drawers, you know, just individual room.
- 2:36Draws your kind of shake a bag or a box up, reach in there and
- 2:39pull one out and that's, you know, what, you're supposed to
- 2:42meditate or kind of think about or meditate on which I do for
- 2:46myself daily. We talked a little bit earlier
- 2:49about the historical backing of the Elder.
- 2:53Futhark room. Just kind of a surface
- 2:55scratching If you guys want to know more about the history of
- 3:00the rooms, I definitely would encourage you to go to YouTube
- 3:02and search for dr. Jackson Crawford.
- 3:05He's a wonderful leading source of Norris language and myth.
- 3:10He's a professor at that believe.
- 3:12It's the University of Colorado, and he's in Colorado.
- 3:18I believe is a forget Which F Colorado Springs area, but he's
- 3:22been a professor in UC Berkeley. UCLA.
- 3:28I'll really well accredited schools.
- 3:32He's wonderful. He uploads videos every
- 3:35Wednesday from you know, the historical parts of of Old Norse
- 3:40literature. He's not heat and himself but he
- 3:44comes from an academic approach to things.
- 3:46Another great channel to check out would be an artery harger a.
- 3:51Alright. Eh, eh eh ger and then he is
- 3:55also So a he has, he has a lot of, he's a heathen himself, but
- 4:00he also has academic backgrounds, that include
- 4:03archaeology degrees in archaeology.
- 4:07And so he's a wonderful source to glean from check out another
- 4:11YouTube channel. From a friend of mine out in
- 4:13East Texas. His name is Eric shervin, his
- 4:16channels, Eric Ward. Weaver.
- 4:17Sure when he does a show, every Wednesday on his channel, called
- 4:20the Ravens call. So if you go to YouTube and
- 4:22search the Ravens call, you'll you'll find some neat stuff over
- 4:26there. His channel, he's a very
- 4:28knowledgeable Heathen. He's actually the go the or
- 4:31Chieftain over there at the tribe in his area.
- 4:36His tribe is called the Creed gar folk.
- 4:37So if you're an East, Texas and you're looking to meet up with
- 4:40some, some heathens that are really well people.
- 4:43Well-to-do good people might want to check out Eric's Channel
- 4:48and email him through his contacts, all of which are
- 4:51included in his videos. But so anyways, let's talk a
- 4:54little bit more about the runes. And the Divination aspect of
- 4:58things, you know, why do we do this?
- 5:00Why why are the runes used for divination?
- 5:05And, and my best answer to that? Is that, you know, Heathen re is
- 5:13a is a path that is rooted in nature, and it's rooted in.
- 5:22Very old traditions. And one of those Traditions, one
- 5:27of those things that we, you know, glean from or try to work
- 5:33from and then work with as heathens is the concept of our
- 5:38weird and it's spelled w yr, d weird is something that you have
- 5:43that. You can exchange it.
- 5:44You can work with people to establish and continue and it's
- 5:48basically the, the web of Destiny, the web of fate.
- 5:55That we are all tied to in some way or another the things that
- 6:00we do everyday adds to our weird.
- 6:04So the things that are good that we add into that, well are going
- 6:10to improve, not only our luck as we live as we live.
- 6:15And as we interact with folks, but it'll increase and benefit
- 6:18the generations that come forth from us, our Descendants, the
- 6:22people who have had that will have Eyes with us and their
- 6:27families that go on after we're no longer here on this on this
- 6:31Earth on midgard. So the weird thing is something
- 6:36that is kind of overlooked or maintained by what are called
- 6:40the norns. And the norns are three figures
- 6:43in Norse mythology, Three Sisters as you will similar to
- 6:47what you have heard from Greek mythology.
- 6:49Is that the sisters of Fate. So the three norns, Control the
- 6:55past president future, you have ordered.
- 6:59The, the first who is that which was, you know, that or that that
- 7:04which was a has already happened, you know, the past if
- 7:08you will and then you have a better than D which is that,
- 7:12which is the the here. And the now this is where we
- 7:15live. This is our, this is the realm
- 7:17that we currently, you know, kind of deal with in and we, you
- 7:21know, we can't change the past, but we can and try to effect.
- 7:25The Here and Now by our deeds and by our actions, and then you
- 7:28have schooled. Okay?
- 7:30And schooled is what should or what will be the future.
- 7:35So, we live in the now better than D and we look to do things
- 7:40that will shape and sort of mold, the things that will be
- 7:43and what can happen. So, in that respect and when
- 7:48we're talking about the runes that and the Divination of using
- 7:53the runs for divination and then the magical aspects of it, what
- 7:57we're essentially doing when we work with the runes, is we see
- 8:02what better than the the, the here in the now has going on and
- 8:07we look to Kind of tap into the school, the the future, we look
- 8:14to see what could be and what might be.
- 8:18And then having that Glimpse or having that Insight of things
- 8:23will help us to perform and do things now that will benefit the
- 8:28outcome, you know, so we are not bound by Fate, other than the
- 8:32fact that we have a faded day to die.
- 8:34We have, you know, certain very poor, you know, poignant points
- 8:39of hard. Lives, you know, kind of like
- 8:41the highlighted Port points of Our Lives, that we absolutely
- 8:44can't change, but we are not controlled by by Fate.
- 8:50There's nothing that happens that we are just, you know, just
- 8:54all kind of willy-nilly out here.
- 8:56Hoping for the best, what are our deeds in our actions?
- 8:59Have a very impactful role in the shaping of weird.
- 9:04So when we work with the runes and when we cast the runes and
- 9:09when we, you know, Divine with the runes and all this kind of
- 9:11stuff. We are essentially trying to
- 9:15bend the web's a bit. We are trying to form and shape
- 9:19the web's to benefit ourselves benefit, our tribes benefit, our
- 9:23communities and ways. And then things that will will
- 9:28continue the good luck that is tied to our webs.
- 9:33So the, you know, the it, again, it's a very long and complex
- 9:38thing that nothing that we can nap.
- 9:39Absolutely cover in one episode. But I did just kind of want to
- 9:42go over with anybody that is curious out here.
- 9:44You know, you see all these graphics online, images of the
- 9:47runes. People always asking, you know,
- 9:49what can I get a tattoo of a room that means this, that or
- 9:52the other and it's a very hot topic, you know, the the
- 9:57aesthetic of it all is very much popular thing for folks,
- 10:01especially new heathens coming into this path.
- 10:03They feel like they have to look apart.
- 10:05They feel like they have to mark themselves in a way that makes
- 10:08them stand out and I guess my my suggestion to that is is you
- 10:11know, Beast be slow about that. Don't just jump on something
- 10:15because you know, it's popular. You think it's going to make you
- 10:19look better as a heathen, worry about your knowledge worry about
- 10:23your actions to you know, educate yourself become
- 10:26knowledgeable about this path that you're following.
- 10:29Do the things that will work for your good and for the good of
- 10:33your, your family, your clan, your tribes.
- 10:37Okay, and then, As far as the other stuff goes, as you become
- 10:41more knowledgeable. And as you increase in the
- 10:43knowledge of this path, you'll you'll pick up on things and
- 10:46you'll get to realize that it doesn't always, you know, that,
- 10:51that surface scratching of the aesthetic of things.
- 10:54You know, you don't have to have a beard, you don't have to have
- 10:57tattoos going up and down your head.
- 10:58You don't have to wear a hammer. You don't have to do all this
- 11:01stuff that people think you have to do.
- 11:03Be here. And there is no you, no, you're
- 11:05not. You're not missing any points.
- 11:08If you don't do one or more of those things, as far as being
- 11:11Heathen goes being a heathen to me and is is about you know,
- 11:15honoring your ancestors, honoring the gods through your
- 11:19daily actions and through your daily walks of through life, how
- 11:23you interact with people how you interact with your, you know,
- 11:26those closest to you, especially your in and got it, which will
- 11:30be probably a start of a subject that we'll talk about in our
- 11:33next episode. I've talked about the, you know,
- 11:35guard All that stuff which if you're listening and you don't
- 11:38know what it is, that's okay. Well, we'll get into that again.
- 11:41Head over to my YouTube channel, for more information, get caught
- 11:44up on some things. And I will see when I went, you
- 11:49know, right now. I'm not have actual schedule.
- 11:51I just kind of get on here and do things on anchor to, you
- 11:55know, when I have some down time.
- 11:56So, when these, when these podcasts go up, maybe a little
- 12:00intermittent right now, until I can figure out a plan of what I
- 12:02want to do, when I want to do stuff, but at least once a week
- 12:05right now, you'll be hearing from Me so definitely check out
- 12:10everything that I've got up here so far.

- 13:08Central Standard Time 8:00 Eastern and usually go live
- 13:13there for discussions on various things and then the videos go up
- 13:17on YouTube on Sunday nights. And so usually what goes on over
- 13:21there, if you're not familiar is various Norris Heathen related
- 13:25stuff as of right now, we're in a middle.
- 13:29Love a little bit past halfway through actually a rune
- 13:32discussion series and that's what I'm coming with you guys
- 13:36today to talk about real quick. And that is the runes.
- 13:39So if you want to know more about that just head over to the
- 13:42YouTube channel And subscribe and check out the nine pieces of
- 13:46eight Rune discussion series. It's a study or a pathway of
- 13:50studying, the runes, got a couple more episodes left to the
- 13:54series before we wrap it up. But today, you know, like I
- 13:57said, wanted to kind of go over. He what?
- 14:00What are the runes and you know, what are they used for?
- 14:05What is their history? A bit?
- 14:07So there is a lot of information out there folks, you know, I
- 14:09can't go into talking and covering every aspect of the
- 14:13runes because we're kind of using this as like an umbrella
- 14:17term. There are so many different sets
- 14:20of runes. What I'm referring to.
- 14:23When I'm going to be talking about today are the Elder
- 14:24futhark rooms, which are a 24. Or phenoms characters used to
- 14:32write in proto-germanic, which is a language that predates the
- 14:37Old Norse language which we see used to speak Old Norse.
- 14:43Obviously, it's a some of the documented text that we have
- 14:48such as codex. Regis the oldest section of the
- 14:52poetic Edda, which is basically collectives of You know,
- 14:58different poems of Norse gods and heroes, things like that.
- 15:04The Old Norse language was spoken in, you know,
- 15:07pre-medieval Scandinavia. And so like I said, before the
- 15:12Elder futhark runes predates that spoken language.
- 15:16We don't really see a whole lot preserved in archaeological or
- 15:21historical findings that have the Elder futhark written.
- 15:27Out but we do have something. So we do have a bit of
- 15:31understanding as far as what these characters are and what
- 15:34they mean, but it is very minimal and a lot of what we
- 15:39have here is in today as far as our knowledge of the runes has
- 15:44come from some obviously, you know, whatever historical
- 15:49evidence that we have. And then also just kind of what
- 15:52has been picked up and collected along the way from other
- 15:55cultures and from other various things.
- 15:57For instance. We, you know, the, the beginning
- 16:01of the Elder futhark set begins with the Rune of fehu.
- 16:06And if you go through and look at the, the etymology I think is
- 16:12the word. I'm looking for the history of
- 16:15that Rune, or the what that word is.
- 16:18We have a rune that You know, is the meaning of that.
- 16:24Rune represents the F sound? Okay, the it is an Old Norse
- 16:30word Faye, and then there's Old English fail.
- 16:34So we get face value from proto-germanic and it's a word
- 16:42that means wealth, right? The, the mobile wealth quite
- 16:47often. It's generally thought of to
- 16:51mean that. Like cattle because cattle were
- 16:55kind of a form of currency and our teeth and times in times
- 16:59when these rooms were used to communicate in.
- 17:02So you have the, you know, and then a lot of the other rooms,
- 17:06the other 23 ruins in the Elder. Futhark set have meanings
- 17:10themselves based on words from those those old languages.
- 17:16Some, again. Some words are some some of
- 17:18those ruins do not have. The actual words one that comes
- 17:23to one that comes to mind is the Rune pair of throw and that
- 17:29particular room. Doesn't have a word that it can
- 17:35be kind of connected with. So it's a bit of a mystery Rune,
- 17:42a rune of mystery. So to speak.
- 17:45And There's there's there's other ways of saying it, you
- 17:50know, there's pure PR has the phonetic sound of a p as in you
- 17:57know, Peter or Papa. But anyways guys kind of what
- 18:02we're going to be going over today is just kind of like a
- 18:07crash course discussion of the runes.
- 18:12The runes I because I said are used as a, you know, language
- 18:16tool just to write. Proto-germanic, but when it
- 18:19comes to the Elder futhark, then we have their esoteric and
- 18:22magical uses, which again doesn't have a whole lot of
- 18:27backing in historical Heathen re.
- 18:30So you'll have a lot of what we call hardcore.
- 18:32Reconstructionist heathens folks, who like to focus their
- 18:36approach to Heathen re based solely on the historical
- 18:41knowledge that we have preserved and to sort of reconstruct that
- 18:45ancient way and real. Live it.
- 18:48Now. It's not really like a revision
- 18:51of practices. It's more or less doing things.
- 18:54Exactly how we know they were done and not deviating from that
- 18:58at all. So, there's so many things out
- 18:59there that will do that myself. I'm not particularly one of
- 19:03them. Although I do hold, the value,
- 19:06from all the historical stuff that we get from the sources and
- 19:11from, what information we have, and I try to build off of that,
- 19:16you know, and apply it as That's my my life.
- 19:19And what My Views are as a modern Heathen.
- 19:23So a lot of reconstruction is heathens won't necessarily
- 19:27looked at the runes is in terms of castings or divination
- 19:33because we really don't have a whole lot that suggests that was
- 19:36ever even done some of the information that we have in the
- 19:40Lord and in the sagas do support, you know, knowing what
- 19:46you're doing when it comes to Working with the runes in a
- 19:48magical sense. So we do at least have some idea
- 19:53or some backing historically, that there was some knowledge of
- 19:58using the runes and inform, you know, magical purposes,
- 20:03spiritual guidance, things like that.
- 20:05Although we really just don't know how that was applied.
- 20:08So what we see, nowadays are folks that use the rooms for
- 20:14Divination in almost in some similar ways.
- 20:17That you would see a person, use a tarot card deck.
- 20:21They will sometimes use what are called Rune spreads, which is a
- 20:28form of divination. It's kind of like laying the
- 20:30runes out in a particular pattern and seeing what that
- 20:36path based off of the pattern that you lay it out, or the
- 20:40spread that you lay it out, lay the ruins out in kind of gives
- 20:45you the reading of what to take from it.
- 20:47It and then there's also a bit more of an organic, not really
- 20:54structured approach to working with the runes which is casting.
- 20:58And that's, that's the approach of Rune working that I do
- 21:02personally. I like the casting method.
- 21:05It, if feels much more natural, it feels kind of, you know, more
- 21:12natural is the best way that I could say is it's not that
- 21:15you're laying them out structured or anyway, there you
- 21:17are. Throwing them out there and
- 21:18letting them fall as they will. And seeing what what happens
- 21:24sometimes, what will happen quite often.
- 21:28What happens is when you're doing the casting, you know,
- 21:30which is basically grabbing a handful of runes, and laying out
- 21:35a cloth, or a sheet or something of runecast and cough.
- 21:38A lot of a lot of folks will have something specifically for
- 21:41Rune, castings laid out on a Surface.
- 21:43Throw the runes down onto the surface and then sometimes what
- 21:46happens is not only do the room. Obviously land.
- 21:48But then they the rooms will form a pattern and the pattern
- 21:54can quite often be in the shape of a rune itself.
- 21:58So you'll you'll get that there's actually going to be
- 22:00some more discussion over on the YouTube channel.
- 22:04Kind of if you guys subscribe and watch those videos, you will
- 22:08actually be able to see what I'm talking about here in the coming
- 22:11weeks because what I plan on doing is sort of offering a bit
- 22:14of a showing of what I do. With my runecast and just to
- 22:19give a little bit inside people, that may have questions.
- 22:23You know, how do I do this? What do I do?
- 22:25What does it look like, you know, kind of give them
- 22:27somewhere of a starting point and hopefully, you know, help
- 22:32with the education process and help people in their learnings.
- 22:38So we're going to take a quick break and here's some word from
- 22:41our advertisements. And I'll be back here in a
- 22:46little bit to you talking about the runes, but definitely make
- 22:50sure to check out midgard musings over on Facebook and the
- 22:55YouTube platforms. Follow, like, subscribe and all
- 22:58that fun stuff. If you're interested in Norse,
- 23:00either me. Thank you guys for listening and
- 23:02I'll be back shortly. Hail.
