- 0:00Hi, welcome to Candid Coach Conversations.
- 0:02I'm Kimberly, founder of Live Life Fully,
- 0:04and today I have with me certified Live Life Fully coach,
- 0:08Savannah. Hi, Savannah.
- 0:09Thank you. Hi. Thank you so much for having me back.
- 0:12So I know that you and I have been talking lately about being ready
- 0:16and waiting to be ready.
- 0:19Yes.
- 0:20And so I've thought more about our conversations and I would love to hear from
- 0:24you today about the whole stop.
- 0:27Like stop waiting to be ready and how.
- 0:31How to stop waiting to be ready.
- 0:32~
- 0:35goodness, that is such a great,
- 0:36great topic. And it's so important because the longer you wait,
- 0:39the more the more that passes you by.
- 0:41And
- 0:42Hmm.
- 0:42it is it is so much about living living life fully.
- 0:47It really is. And for me it took it took
- 0:50Earning my confidence or getting my confidence by looking at what
- 0:54I wanted to accomplish, how I wanted to accomplish,
- 0:57how I wanted to show up for me,
- 0:59for my family, for my friends,
- 1:02for my loved ones. And once I finally realized just how important all of that
- 1:08is to me, I finally said, okay,
- 1:10enough's enough. I've got to get out there and I've got to do this.
- 1:13The the embarrassment doesn't matter.
- 1:15The fear doesn't matter.
- 1:17All of that serves now as motivation.
- 1:20So it I still have that stopping point sometimes,
- 1:25and I then have really great people in my life who say,
- 1:29okay, Savannah, let's talk about what's stopping you.
- 1:32What is holding you back?
- 1:33And that's when I take a look at the hard things and I s and I say to myself,
- 1:37I'm the one holding me back. Me.
- 1:39Only me.
- 1:40Okay, so so then what I'm hearing is like if you're gonna work on something
- 1:44or you wanna do something, maybe it's a goal or a dream,
- 1:47a project, a task, and then you know what you wanna do,
- 1:51and yet you stop, and you're
- 1:53Mm-hmm.
- 1:54saying, like you've been stopping.
- 1:56What I think I'm hearing is that you've been stopping because you wanna make sure
- 2:00you're ready. And you wanna have everything
- 2:01Right. I do.
- 2:03just so.
- 2:04Mm-hmm.
- 2:05And so to stop waiting that fear or the embarrassment or the uncertainty,
- 2:11you've decided to use that as fuel to push you.
- 2:15Mm.
- 2:16I have. I have.
- 2:17Okay, and so I don't know
- 2:19I don't know. I guess I wanna know how.
- 2:22How have like if you recognize that you've got fear or there's uncertainty
- 2:27or this whole thing about, it's so embarrassing,
- 2:30like how do you turn that into fuel?
- 2:32I look at the others that came before me.
- 2:35So in business coaching, our you know,
- 2:38the woman who the person that we're y we're we're using to help us with
- 2:41our business coaching, she she made the comment of,
- 2:45I'm I'm afraid that people are gonna take a look at me and say,
- 2:48Okay, she's too overweight. Well,
- 2:50that's something that I've struggled with.
- 2:52And I've used that in the past and it never
- 2:54It still didn't work out. So it doesn't really matter.
- 2:57Doesn't matter what I look like.
- 2:59It matters the content. You know,
- 3:01it's kind it's it's kinda like what MLK said.
- 3:03Not the the color of their skin,
- 3:04but the content of their character.
- 3:06I have a lot of really good things to say.
- 3:08I have a lot of really good things to offer.
- 3:11And if I wait until I am my hair is the right length,
- 3:16or my hair is the fluffiest, or my my skin is the clearest,
- 3:21or
- 3:21I'm down X amount of pounds. I will be waiting for the rest of my life to begin.
- 3:27I'm not getting any younger. And
- 3:30Yeah.
- 3:31I finally decided, doesn't matter.
- 3:34Do the first thing. So I I have found that I've started putting
- 3:40out my newsletters. I put out a newsletter once a week on Wednesdays,
- 3:45and I thought, how can I reach more
- 3:47So I've started scheduling them to go out on Facebook.
- 3:50And I'm
- 3:50Okay.
- 3:50finding that I'm getting more feedback.
- 3:53And I'm getting feedback from people that I didn't know were actually reading them.
- 3:58no.
- 3:58Yes. My my husband's cousin, when we saw each other earlier,
- 4:03I guess it was late last year after my father in law passed,
- 4:06she told me, she said, Savannah,
- 4:08she's like, I love your your daily
- 4:11affirmations basically what what I was putting out on on Facebook and I said,
- 4:15Well thank you. I said I didn't I didn't realize anybody was actually looking
- 4:18at those. And she said, no, I look at them every day.
- 4:21I just don't comment. I was like,
- 4:23well that makes me feel so good.
- 4:24Thank you so much. I will that that gives me motivation to continue to do it.
- 4:30And I I I'm no longer doing the daily affirmations.
- 4:33I'm doing the weekly newsletters that have more information and
- 4:39It's a little bit of me that I give to others.
- 4:42It's a little bit of wisdom that I give to others.
- 4:46And it's no longer embarrassing.
- 4:47So I'm so curious, Savannah, what was embarrassing?
- 4:51Like before you started sending out your newsletter,
- 4:53it sounds like you wanted to do it,
- 4:55something was there, you were hesitant.
- 4:57What was the embarrassing piece?
- 4:59To be seen as not, I'm not gonna say perfect,
- 5:03because nobody's perfect, obviously.
- 5:05To be seen as someone thinking,
- 5:08well, how does she know anything?
- 5:10What does she know? I know my own life.
- 5:12I know the things that I can I can give to other people.
- 5:15I know the things that I can bring to other people through my own coaching,
- 5:20through my own, you know, working with other coaches and listening
- 5:26and just gathering all this wonderful information that my voice matters.
- 5:31I matter. And that even if
- 5:33Nobody else reads them, guess what?
- 5:35I don't care anymore. And people are reading them.
- 5:38And that feels awesome. My next one,
- 5:40I need to figure out how to schedule them on LinkedIn.
- 5:43That's what I need to I need to figure out how to schedule them on LinkedIn,
- 5:46which is one of my goals for this week.
- 5:49So
- 5:50Okay.
- 5:52I love that. And and I know that you said if nobody reads them,
- 5:55you know, you don't care anymore.
- 5:57What I'm hearing though is that you actually do care.
- 5:59And
- 6:00I do.
- 6:01what I also hear, Savannah, at listening to you,
- 6:04is that by not waiting
- 6:06And by sharing your story, by putting yourself out there for being vulnerable,
- 6:11sharing like your like you exactly what you said,
- 6:13your experiences, your coaching,
- 6:15your life, although
- 6:17Mm-hmm.
- 6:17somebody may not have the exact circumstances and you're not telling them step
- 6:21by step what to do,
- 6:23Right.
- 6:23they may be able to gather, like,
- 6:25~ gosh, I could that's something I could try or I can relate to that.
- 6:30And then also what I'm hearing talking about caring is you do care and
- 6:36you have this awareness that your newsletter is probably not going
- 6:40to be for everybody in the universe.
- 6:42Yeah.
- 6:42Right. Right.
- 6:44Absolutely. The one that made the most impact for me and I think finally broke
- 6:50the dam was after our last conversation and putting out my my newsletter
- 6:57And I finally figured out how to do it on to Facebook,
- 6:59was putting my my grief newsletter out on Facebook.
- 7:02And I I I had so many people reach out to me and say,
- 7:08Wow, that was that I'm sorry for your loss.
- 7:11You know, that was a very powerful story.
- 7:14Sounds like you're doing okay.
- 7:16I can come you know, I remember when this happened to me.
- 7:19So it became more of a community and a meeting of
- 7:24of
- 7:24the minds and a meeting of the hearts.
- 7:26I love that.
- 7:27Yes. And it it that that helped a lot because I mean shoot this year I mean
- 7:33in the last eight eight months I've lost four people.
- 7:36So that that one really that one really kind of broke it for me.
- 7:41That one that one opened up the gates.
- 7:43because I saw how much other people responded to it.
- 7:47And it that that really did say,
- 7:49Okay, you you can't you can't keep this to yourself anymore.
- 7:51You can't now is the time. Now is the time,
- 7:53now is the place.
- 7:54Yes. I love that.
- 7:55Dem.
- 7:55And so you talk about taking the first step.
- 7:57So that first step toward overcoming the fear of embarrassment or fear in general.
- 8:03Okay.
- 8:05tidbits that you can share about how to stop waiting for things such
- 8:09as cleaning out the closet or planting the garden.
- 8:12Although I think season may matter.
- 8:14I don't know exactly.
- 8:15Yeah
- 8:16yes. And with it, you know, being as hot as the sun outside,
- 8:20mm, that's that's a little difficult too.
- 8:22I recently had a a moment like that.
- 8:25I needed to clean out the garage because we are getting some work done
- 8:29on the house and I'm looking at it and I'm like there's
- 8:32There is no way they're gonna be able to come in here and do any of the work.
- 8:36So I I thought to myself, okay,
- 8:38so this is step one of what I'm gonna do.
- 8:40Tomorrow I'm gonna get up, I'm gonna have my coffee,
- 8:43I'm going to have my breakfast,
- 8:45and then I'm gonna go out there and I'm gonna set a timer for ten minutes.
- 8:50And so I set I set my timer for ten minutes and I said I'm gonna and it
- 8:54was a big job. I'm gonna take just the front stuff and I'm gonna move it out of
- 9:00the way because I know the front stuff is stuff that we're gonna keep.
- 9:03Mm.
- 9:04And that that timer went off for 10 minutes and I thought,
- 9:07you know what? I'm not ready to stop.
- 9:08I've got my momentum going. I set the timer again for another 10 minutes.
- 9:12Okay, love that. So you got to choose like the standard,
- 9:16the minimum was gonna be ten minutes,
- 9:18Mm.
- 9:19and then you got to decide I'm gonna do an extra ten,
- 9:23and maybe time wouldn't have allowed,
- 9:24and so you would have stopped,
- 9:25but your
- 9:26Right.
- 9:27your goal was first step, ten minutes.
- 9:3010 minutes. I've because
- 9:31I w I have a goal of getting at least this side of the garage cleaned
- 9:37out to be able to move things if I need to.
- 9:41I was able to get another ten minutes done and I said,
- 9:44okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna sit down,
- 9:46I'm gonna get some water, I'm gonna cool off because it had it rained while
- 9:50I was doing this and it was ugh swimming outside.
- 9:53So I sat down, I cooled off, I had some water,
- 9:57I
- 9:58Just took a moment and then I said and when my timer went off again,
- 10:01I then got up and I said, Okay,
- 10:02so I'm setting it. This time I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna set
- 10:05it for fifteen minutes because ten minutes was too short,
- 10:09twenty minutes was maybe a little too long.
- 10:11So I set it for fifteen. And I got
- 10:14everything that I wanted to get done in that 15 minutes and the
- 10:20the feeling of accomplishment and the feeling of I did that was awesome.
- 10:25It was absolutely amazing. And so I I set the timer for another five minutes.
- 10:30I sat back down I had some more water and I just kind of watched the world
- 10:34go by and I looked at the other stuff and I thought okay this is what this
- 10:37is my plan. I want to move this I'm gonna do that.
- 10:40So I started planning
- 10:41planning it in my head so when the timer went off I didn't hesitate.
- 10:45I stood up and I I set the timer again.
- 10:48I got back to work and I got everything that I wanted to get done
- 10:52and cleaned out that day. And
- 10:55That's a thing.
- 10:55I found three things that I wanted to sell on Facebook.
- 10:58One of them has already sold. If the other two don't get sold they're going
- 11:02to to Goodwill. They're done. Done.
- 11:03Yeah. That's so
- 11:06good. And I love that. So you know we always hear take one day at a time.
- 11:10And so you were taking fifteen minutes at a time.
- 11:13I love that. That's that's a bite-sized piece.
- 11:16It is.
- 11:16And then
- 11:17the fifteen minutes, it was it sounds like you were playing a beat the clock like
- 11:21a game.
- 11:23It
- 11:23kind of felt that way because I was like,
- 11:25okay, I only have fifteen minutes.
- 11:27Even though it was a self imposed time clock.
- 11:29Sure.
- 11:30And that motivation to get it done because
- 11:33To get this to get it cleaned out,
- 11:35A, I can now walk through my garage and it makes bringing in groceries
- 11:39a whole lot easier. And B, this is something that had to be done
- 11:44for something that's gonna better our family.
- 11:46That's gonna s
- 11:46Yeah.
- 11:46in the long run, it's gonna save us hundreds of dollars,
- 11:50hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- 11:51So
- 11:52Now I've only gotten one side done,
- 11:54so this weekend the goal is to get the other side done in preparation to
- 11:59be to be ready to go for Monday when they come in when they come
- 12:03to install the batteries.
- 12:05Nice. minus a tropical storm or some weird weather situation or
- 12:08Absolutely.
- 12:09who knows what's happening out in the world.
- 12:12But no, that's great. That is so good.
- 12:14You know, it's so funny, Savannah,
- 12:16listening. Well, it's not funny.
- 12:17Not funny at all, actually. thinking about my own life,
- 12:20like for so long. Okay, so I might have a touch of OCD sometimes.
- 12:26Whatever.
- 12:26I think we all do. It's good.
- 12:28Okay, good. So, but for so long in my life,
- 12:32like honestly, I would know things that needed to be done.
- 12:36Let's go with laundry. Okay. Yes,
- 12:38it is like a dream to wash,
- 12:42dry, and fold without any hesitation.
- 12:45I hate
- 12:46Right.
- 12:46doing
- 12:47I don't really hate it, but I really don't like it very much.
- 12:49Yeah.
- 12:49And I mean, it has that cute little song that goes off when the washer's finished,
- 12:53and another cute song when the dryer's finished.
- 12:56And you know, I
- 12:56Mm-hmm.
- 12:57could be Johnny on the spot and get it done.
- 12:59And I don't always get
- 13:01Right.
- 13:02it done in the order at the song playing time.
- 13:05And for years, if I couldn't
- 13:08have time or if I didn't think that I had time to start,
- 13:12wash, dry, and fold, I wouldn't start at all.
- 13:14Mm. Yes.
- 13:17I'd put it off, put it off, put it off,
- 13:18put it off. Well good grief. Then I'd need like two whole days because that'd
- 13:22be so much
- 13:22Right.
- 13:23laundry. So
- 13:24Yes.
- 13:25what I've realized is it's okay.
- 13:28This sounds so ridiculous to say out loud.
- 13:31And it is okay
- 13:33If I don't get them out of the dryer instantly.
- 13:36It's okay if I get them out of the dryer and don't fold them or hang them
- 13:40up for several hours.
- 13:42Right.
- 13:43Like that's one of many examples in my own life where I would put
- 13:47We need.
- 13:48off doing the thing if I could not do it from start to finish all in one chunk.
- 13:54Mm-hmm.
- 13:54And I was getting in my own way.
- 13:56And so I had all these 15, 20 minute increments of time that were
- 14:01Right.
- 14:01literally nothing. And it wasn't even
- 14:03Okay.
- 14:03I know Winnie the Pooh says doing nothing is still doing something.
- 14:06And I agree with that. And if I think about productivity,
- 14:10like, well, I can't
- 14:12This was my thinking, and I really don't like the words I can't,
- 14:14so I've changed that. But back then it was,
- 14:16Okay.
- 14:17~
- 14:18I can't I can't sit down to do the puzzle until I do the laundry,
- 14:22but I don't have time to start the laundry because I can't start it,
- 14:25wash, dry, fold, and put it away.
- 14:26And so
- 14:27Right.
- 14:27all that that thinking was a
- 14:30Wait.
- 14:30waste really of 15 minutes. And so
- 14:33Once I took this like a time audit,
- 14:35an audit of my time and where did I where could I buy time back,
- 14:39it was really
- 14:40Mm-hmm.
- 14:41and truly coming to this understanding and this realization,
- 14:44it doesn't have to be perfect,
- 14:45like you said before. And I can do whatever I can within that time period.
- 14:51And if it doesn't get finished,
- 14:53it will be there when I come back.
- 14:55Absolutely.
- 14:56Yes.
- 14:57It has
- 14:57freed up like a whole day within the day.
- 15:00Literally.
- 15:00Yes.
- 15:02Yes. Because y you get analysis paralysis.
- 15:06You know,
- 15:06Yeah.
- 15:07we just love that. The analysis paralysis.
- 15:09And I think we all suffer from it at some point or another with something,
- 15:13whether it's homework or you know,
- 15:16charting or preparing
- 15:18Yes.
- 15:19for something or cleaning something.
- 15:22We all have it. And
- 15:23It not only that, what I have found is that that analysis paralysis also brings
- 15:30on shame.
- 15:31Mm.
- 15:32And I I am not gonna live any more of my life surrounded by any kind of shame
- 15:39or put any kind of personalized shame because I waited or didn't do something that
- 15:44I wanted to do. Now is t nobody's guaranteed a tomorrow.
- 15:47Right.
- 15:47Now is the time to do it. And if,
- 15:50like you said, if it doesn't all get done,
- 15:52it will still be there. It will still be there.
- 15:54Yes, it will.
- 15:56Yes. As a matter of fact,
- 15:58I have laundry that still needs to be finished from yesterday.
- 16:01So it is still there. ~ And I
- 16:05Yeah. So good.
- 16:07don't I don't f I don't feel that that heaviness anymore.
- 16:11Mm.
- 16:12Because
- 16:13I'm I'm I'm gonna do the thing.
- 16:14I'm going to send out the the the newsletter.
- 16:17I'm going I'm going to do the the cleanup in the garage.
- 16:21I I'm going to do this. And that that heaviness feel or that heavy feeling
- 16:26of shame is not there anymore.
- 16:28Yeah, I love that. Have you also found this is something that I have found when
- 16:33I didn't think I had time to do the whole thing at once.
- 16:36Mm-hmm.
- 16:36And then I put that aside, like,
- 16:37okay, so you don't get it all done at once,
- 16:40do what you can. Like you were talking about the timer.
- 16:43If I've got fifteen minutes
- 16:43Nice meeting.
- 16:44till I've got to leave, that beat the clock.
- 16:47What I found is I finish it.
- 16:49Mm-hmm. Yes.
- 16:49within the time. So really I don't have a lot
- 16:52of leftover. I think it's fascinating how our brain works in that way.
- 16:58~ yes.
- 16:59I really do.
- 17:00Yes. And I remember you saying,
- 17:03I can't remember, it was recently,
- 17:05I remember you say talking about how our brain is what we tell it,
- 17:09or our our thoughts,
- 17:09Okay.
- 17:11you know, and if you tell yourself I can't,
- 17:13then yeah, you certainly can't.
- 17:15I can, I get
- 17:16That's right.
- 17:18to, I am able to, I'm able to start this and finish it.
- 17:23Yes.
- 17:23Maybe
- 17:23not finishing it. You're not putting a time limit on when you're finishing it.
- 17:27You just said finish it.
- 17:28Right.
- 17:28So that could be, you know, writing a book or writing,
- 17:34you know, a planner or writing your notes or writing a newsletter.
- 17:38You know, sometimes life just life gets in the way.
- 17:41And it's okay. It's okay.
- 17:44Yes,
- 17:45it is okay. So bottom line, stop waiting
- 17:49to feel
- 17:50Yeah.
- 17:50ready. Stop waiting because you only have ten minutes.
- 17:54Ten minutes. Right.
- 17:54Right. Stop waiting for life to begin and start.
- 17:58Start.
- 17:58Start.
- 18:01Yes. Because there's so much to live.
- 18:04There's so much to do. And we all have the same amount of time.
- 18:10Hopefully.
- 18:10We do. And a friend of
- 18:12a friend of ours has talked about,
- 18:14~ how many does she say we have a hundred and what does she say?
- 18:18eight.
- 18:19Hundred and sixty eight, isn't it?
- 18:21I think so.
- 18:22Something something close to that.
- 18:25Yeah, I think so.
- 18:26Yes. And when you take out all of the sleeping and the eating and
- 18:30the driving and you know the bathroom and you know everything that we you have
- 18:36Okay.
- 18:37to do, yes, we are all left with with the same amount.
- 18:41So what do you want to do with it?
