- 0:05My name is Daniel and today I want to tell you the scariest experience I
- 0:10ever experienced when I was ten. It all started when my older brother,
- 0:14along with his friends, decided to go camping in the woods, all without
- 0:19the permission of our parents. The original plan was for them to go alone,
- 0:24but since my parents would have the night shift and I should take care
- 0:28of me, they finally decided to take me with them. At first I
- 0:34was excited about the idea of going camping with my brother and his friends,
- 0:39but once we got to the forest, the atmosphere changed. The darkness and
- 0:44sounds of nature scared me a little, but I didn' t want my
- 0:48brother and his friends to think I was a coward at night while we were
- 0:54sitting around the campfire. We roasted sausages and chocolates, when all of a
- 0:59sudden everyone eats NN to tell horror stories, which they had heard from their
- 1:03acquaintances or relatives. They talked about a man who lived in the forest and
- 1:08stalked the children who ventured there and then ended the lives of the unwary.
- 1:15I was very scared, but my brother and his friends seemed to just laugh
- 1:19at my fear. They told me it was just a story made up and
- 1:25that I had nothing to fear. But then one of my brother' s
- 1:29friends started telling a different story. It was the story of a man who
- 1:34had lived in the forest many years ago. According to legend, this man
- 1:40had been excluded from the Community, because he was believed to be practicing witchcraft.
- 1:46Those thoughts were due to the fact that a man in the village claimed
- 1:49to have seen him on full moon nights performing rituals. It was said that,
- 1:56despite the belief of the people, this man was not really a bad
- 2:00person and that those rituals, though true, were for good harvests and prosperity
- 2:05for the entire people. However, in order to avoid problems, he decided
- 2:10to go to live in the depths of the forest. For many years,
- 2:15that man was completely isolated from everyone. I survived selling natural remedies in a
- 2:21nearby town so I wouldn' t bother anyone. One day, however,
- 2:25the inhabitants of the nearby village accused him of being responsible for the disappearance of
- 2:30many children and since the police did nothing about it because there was no evidence
- 2:35that that was true, they decided to take justice into their own hands.
- 2:42They say that they hunted that man as if he were a wild animal and,
- 2:46once captured, tried to make him confess the disappearance of the children,
- 2:53subjecting him to horrible punishments, which no one should ever experience. However,
- 2:59it did not matter how much that man claimed his innocence about not being responsible
- 3:04for the disappearance of the children, because the inhabitants of the village ended up
- 3:10setting him on fire by burning him alive. It is said that, when
- 3:14the fire finally went out, that man' s spoil was nothing more than
- 3:17a horrible cluster of what had previously been a human being. Parts that were
- 3:23not unrecognizable by fire were filled with blisters and scorched meat. His forehead,
- 3:30which had been kicked open, had been burned in such a way that it
- 3:35looked like an empty basin of a third eye. Much of his teeth were
- 3:39exposed as if part of his lips had been torn. That description was very
- 3:46embedded in my mind I could not even think of the suffering that man had
- 3:52had to undergo. The worst came when my brother' s friend, who
- 3:57told the story, claimed that his father, who had told him the same
- 4:00story, had seen the spirit of that man. He wandered through the forest
- 4:08completely full of rage and resentment. After that terrible death he suffered at the
- 4:13hands of those villagers. Everyone in the group seemed to be very interested in
- 4:18the story. I, on the other hand, was terrified what would happen
- 4:25if the man of history continued to live in the forest and attacked us.
- 4:30But my concerns didn' t seem to matter to others who continued to talk
- 4:36about the man of history for a while longer before we went to sleep.
- 4:41I tried to relax and sleep, but I couldn' t stop thinking about
- 4:46the story they had told. Every time I closed my eyes. I could
- 4:50not prevent the images of that burnt man from coming to my mind, so
- 4:55it took me a lot to fall asleep. In the middle of the night.
- 5:00I woke up because I heard a strange noise outside my store. I
- 5:04thought he was the man in the horror story they told. I tried to
- 5:10ignore the sounds and concentrate on breathing deeply, but they became stronger and more
- 5:15persistent. I began to feel my shop shaking slightly and I couldn' t
- 5:21help but feel a chill running through my body. I tried to calm myself
- 5:27down by telling myself they were just nocturnal animals moving through the woods, but
- 5:32I couldn' t ignore the feeling that something was wrong. That' s
- 5:38when the store started moving harder, as if something was pushing it from the
- 5:42outside. I heard a loud laugh and a voice telling me to get out
- 5:47of the store, but I was too scared to move. Suddenly, the
- 5:53tent opened abruptly and a dark figure bowed over me. I screamed as loudly
- 6:00as I could, trying to scare whoever that person was, but the figure
- 6:03just stood there, staring at me with empty, lifeless eyes. He could
- 6:11not see his face clearly, but he could feel his breathing loud and cut.
- 6:17Suddenly, the figure disappeared and everything was silent. I lay there curled
- 6:24up in my sleeping bag shaking with fear. I didn' t know what
- 6:29to do or who to ask for help. I felt completely alone and vulnerable
- 6:33in the middle of that dark and unknown forest. That' s when I
- 6:39heard the laughter of my older brother and his friends outside the store, I
- 6:43realized that it had all been a cruel joke. I was relieved that everything
- 6:48was a joke, but I also felt angry and betrayed my older brother.
- 6:55He had never done anything similar to me, so realizing that dramatic change when
- 6:59he met his friends was too much for me. After they noticed that I
- 7:04had noticed his joke and that he really seemed very upset, they all went
- 7:10back to their own store and fell asleep right away, but I couldn'
- 7:15t sleep. I was still in a state of shock because of what had
- 7:19happened. I felt betrayed by my older brother and his friends I couldn'
- 7:26t believe that they would have been able to do something like that to me.
- 7:30It took about two hours when, while lying in my sleeping bag.
- 7:34I began to hear the sounds of the night, the rustling of the leaves,
- 7:40the howl of an owl and the buzz of insects, but this time
- 7:45I could not ignore them. Every sound made me more nervous and made me
- 7:49tremble in fear. I couldn' t help but think of the horror story
- 7:55I had been told before and the man who was supposed to be stalking in
- 7:59the woods. Finally, I realized I had to do something to calm myself
- 8:03down. So I left the store and sat outside in the dark. I
- 8:09looked at the stars and tried to focus on their brightness. Being outside gave
- 8:15me some peace of mind, as if I saw the man I would have
- 8:20a better chance of escaping if I was outside. Instead of being stuck in
- 8:24my tent, I tried to breathe deeply to calm myself down, but the
- 8:30fear kept growing inside me. Suddenly I heard a sound that made me jump.
- 8:37It was a loud, deaf noise, like the sound of a heavy
- 8:41object falling to the ground. I didn' t know what it was,
- 8:46but I was sure it wasn' t normal. I got up and walked
- 8:50where the sound was coming from. I walked in the dark trying to see
- 8:54something, but everything was too dark. Then it became clear that something was
- 8:58moving behind me. I turned around, but there was nothing there. I
- 9:05realized that my heart was beating at full speed and that I was shaking with
- 9:09fear. I couldn' t stand the idea that something or someone was behind
- 9:16me. In the dark, I built up courage and with my legs shaking,
- 9:20I looked back at the direction of sound, but I saw nothing,
- 9:26only darkness and silence. I called my brother out loud, but I didn
- 9:31' t get an answer. I thought they might have gone away to avoid
- 9:35being caught in their joke, but something inside of me told me something wasn
- 9:39' t right. With fear I decided that it would be best to go
- 9:45back to my tent and try to sleep. Even though he was tired.
- 9:48I couldn' t sleep. Fear had me completely paralyzed. I thought I
- 9:56' d get up and go find my brother and his friends, but the
- 10:00fear of the unknown kept me still, so I sat there in my tent
- 10:05looking into the dark. That' s when I started hearing strange sounds,
- 10:11like something was moving out of my store. I tried to ignore them,
- 10:18but they got stronger and stronger. Getting to the point of feeling that my
- 10:20shop was starting to move, I was terrified. I didn' t know
- 10:26what to do. I tried to scream for my brother and his friends to
- 10:31listen to me, but my vocal cords seemed paralyzed by fear. The sound.
- 10:37Outside my shop it got stronger and stronger as if something was trying to
- 10:41get in. Finally, I took courage and opened the door of my shop
- 10:46ready to face whatever was out there, but what I saw left me completely
- 10:52breathless. The figure of a tall, thin man stood right in front of
- 10:58me. He seemed to be floating in the air without touching the ground.
- 11:03I couldn' t move. It was completely petrified. The man stared at
- 11:09me and suddenly began to laugh a macabre and heartbreaking laughter that made me tremble
- 11:16from head to toe. I tried to close the door to my store,
- 11:20but it seemed to be stuck. I began to pull the closure with all
- 11:26my might as I tried to remember every sacred prayer I had learned in my
- 11:31short life. Finally I managed to make the closure move, I got inside
- 11:35and closed the zipper behind me. I knelt down in the middle of the
- 11:39tent and began to pray with all my might, hoping that the laughter would
- 11:45stop and that it would all be just a nightmare. But the laughter didn
- 11:48' t stop. In fact, they seemed to be closer to my store.
- 11:54Now I could hear the steps approaching my shop. It was completely petrified.
- 12:01I didn' t know what to do. I should scream for help,
- 12:07I should try to get out of my store and run as far as
- 12:09possible. Then the laughter stopped. Everything was quiet. I couldn' t
- 12:18hear anything but my own heart. Beating heavily in my chest, I looked
- 12:24around trying to find some sign of what was happening outside my tent, but
- 12:28I saw nothing, just the darkness. Suddenly, a strong wind shook my
- 12:37tent. I thought it was going to fall apart, but then the wind
- 12:43stopped and everything was quiet again. I tried to calm myself down by telling
- 12:48myself that it was just the wind and that my paranoia was making my brain
- 12:52create things that weren' t there. However, when I was just beginning
- 12:58to believe, in my own words, a very strong burst began to shake
- 13:01my tent even more violently in the midst of my panic. I saw my
- 13:07shop fly out, leaving me exposed. That' s when I screamed for
- 13:13my older brother and his friends, but I didn' t get an answer.
- 13:18Still lying on the ground, I could see a dark figure on the
- 13:22edge of the forest. He looked like a man, but could not distinguish
- 13:26his features because of the deep darkness of the forest. His gaze was penetrating
- 13:31and the mere fact of feeling it made me shudder. I started screaming and
- 13:37crying for help, but no one answered. The figure slowly approached with an
- 13:43evil laugh that icy my blood. As he approached I could tell something in
- 13:48his hand was a knife that seemed to be covered with blood. I was
- 13:54terrified and I didn' t know what to do. My brothers and their
- 13:58friends did not stop from listening to me or feeling what was happening. I
- 14:03got up and ran as fast as I could without caring to get into the
- 14:07woods. All I wanted was to get away from that man. I ran
- 14:13as fast as I could, feeling the figure was getting closer to me.
- 14:18I got to the river and jumped inside without worrying about clothes or shoes.
- 14:24I felt like cold water. I wrapped my body and breathless, but I
- 14:28didn' t stop there. I started walking down the river, keeping my
- 14:33eyes back to make sure the figure didn' t follow me. After an
- 14:39indefinite time. Running I arrived at my camp again, but what I saw
- 14:45there left me paralyzed. My brother' s tent and his friends were torn
- 14:50apart and everything inside was scattered on the floor. Worst of all, there
- 14:56was no trace of my brother or his friends. I shouted their names,
- 15:01but only the echo of the forest responded. I started walking through the woods
- 15:05desperate to find someone who could help me, but the more I walked,
- 15:11the more I realized that I was completely alone. I felt trapped in an
- 15:16endless nightmare, not knowing what to do or who to ask for help.
- 15:22Fear and uncertainty took over me and I began to cry without control. That
- 15:28' s when I heard an evil laugh that seemed to come from everywhere.
- 15:33At the same time I realized that I was surrounded by something I could not
- 15:37see or understand. I felt as if the forest itself was making fun of
- 15:43me and invaded me with a feeling of complete impotence. I realized I had
- 15:46to do something to get out of there. I couldn' t let fear
- 15:52paralyze me completely. So I started walking in the opposite direction to laughter,
- 15:58looking for some trace that could take me to my brother and his friends.
- 16:03But the more I walked, the more lost I felt all of a sudden.
- 16:07I felt a strong pull on my arm. I turned around and saw
- 16:11my older brother with his face disfigured by fear. He pulled me out with
- 16:18all his might and we started running back to our camp on the way told
- 16:25me that I had seen something horrible in the forest, something I couldn'
- 16:29t explain with words. He told me he had to get us out of
- 16:33there. Before it was too late, I continued running through the woods with
- 16:37my brother trying to escape from that terrifying figure who was chasing us. After
- 16:42a while, we found another one of our friends, who was shaking and
- 16:48had blood on his hands. Next to him was the lifeless body of another
- 16:53of our friends. We look at each other full of fear and despair.
- 17:00We knew we had to get out of there as soon as possible before we
- 17:04ended up dead. Together we help our friend to get up and continue to
- 17:11run through the forest with the heart, beating me by the hour and the
- 17:15mind full of horrible images and thoughts. Throughout the journey, my brother’
- 17:19s friend kept repeating his words over and over again. He wasn' t
- 17:25my friend. He wasn' t my friend. I swear, he wasn
- 17:27' t my friend. His voice was so heartbreaking and he tried to convince
- 17:33us at all costs of something, which, unfortunately, we could not understand
- 17:37at that time. After hours of running through the forest, we finally managed
- 17:42to find our way back to the camp, which, to no one'
- 17:47s surprise, was completely destroyed. It was as if a ferocious beast had
- 17:52swept through every place trying to find us. But for our fortune, we
- 17:56weren' t there. We had no idea how we would leave that place,
- 18:02since although we had arrived on foot the soc of the events lived that
- 18:04night were still too fresh, all without mentioning that my brother' s friend
- 18:11was still in that state of psychosis, without being able to stop repeating the
- 18:15same words over and over again, we finally decided that there was no other
- 18:21left but to walk, which, for our fortune, worked. We managed
- 18:26to get out of the forest alive and find help for my brother' s
- 18:30friend, who was immediately hospitalized and, therefore, our parents found out about
- 18:37our escape into the forest, though to make them honest. That was the
- 18:41least my brother and I cared about at the time we found out not long
- 18:45after my brother' s friend had stabbed another of his friends. However,
- 18:52he claimed that at the time of the attack he had not seen his friend
- 18:56in his place, gave to a man who r mad and horrible, who
- 19:00laughed and approached threateningly with a knife laughing in a ghastly manner in his fear.
- 19:07He pulled out the knife he always had with him to defend himself.
- 19:11But to stab the burnt man he realized that it was his best friend.
- 19:17My brother and I believed in his version of the story, and he boasted
- 19:19to everyone that his friend was not a murderer. Besides, we too had
- 19:26a close encounter with the burned and horrible man in the woods, but no
- 19:30one believed us. My brother' s friend never recovered. He was admitted
- 19:37to a psychiatric hospital a few months later and never left there, my brother
- 19:41and I were completely exonerated, as my brother' s friend' s body
- 19:47showed no evidence of being attacked by more than one person, so we were
- 19:51quickly dismissed as suspects. I still remember that night with horrible nightmares that,
- 19:59I' m sure, will haunt me for the rest of my life. Anonymous account
