Transcript
- 0:14Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports very Daily, bring you the Folkstone
- 0:16Speaker 1: and Hive Sports show right here on Radio Folkston.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Today's show we have football, hockey, rugby.
- 0:30Speaker 1: News on the Easter holiday camps for kids, some netball news,
- 0:34Speaker 1: news of a charity football match raising money for Pilgrim's hospices,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and a special report on what drives Harry Wall to
- 0:48Speaker 1: run the London Marathon. So what a glorious day is
- 1:02Speaker 1: out there? It's still a little bit chilly, don't be fooled,
- 1:05Speaker 1: but it's lovely, isn't it. You know, lit't soak up
- 1:07Speaker 1: the sunshine today. So I hope to be playing some
- 1:10Speaker 1: summary sunshine songs and you know what, I love this one.
- 1:14Speaker 1: This has got a long introduction, but it's well worth
- 1:17Speaker 1: listening to. This is Jerry Rapidee and get it right
- 1:21Speaker 1: next time. Nineteen seventy nine Jerry Rapido. Did you know
- 1:52Speaker 1: Jerry Rapidee was in Steeler's Wheel, wrote some lovely songs
- 1:55Speaker 1: for them. And also I was finding out today that
- 1:58Speaker 1: in his early career he was actually in a group
- 2:02Speaker 1: with Billy Connolly. Yeah, Billy Connolly was into folk music
- 2:05Speaker 1: before he became a comedian. He left the wild in
- 2:08Speaker 1: situation up in Glasgow and he was in a group
- 2:11Speaker 1: for a while but it didn't suit him and he
- 2:15Speaker 1: turned to comedy and never looked back. Let's face it, okay,
- 2:19Speaker 1: So let's crack on with the show now. London Marathon
- 2:24Speaker 1: not too far away, is it if you look kicking
- 2:27Speaker 1: those days off if you're running. So I've been reading
- 2:31Speaker 1: out reports for people that are sending in their little
- 2:35Speaker 1: story about how they hope to achieve and what they're
- 2:38Speaker 1: hoping to achieve at the London Marathon. And my first
- 2:41Speaker 1: report of the show today was sent in by a
- 2:43Speaker 1: London Marathon runner, Harry Wall. So what I'm going to
- 2:46Speaker 1: do without further ado, I'm going to read it out
- 2:49Speaker 1: as it came to me. Harry obviously wrote this from
- 2:52Speaker 1: his heart, and I think it's only fair to share
- 2:54Speaker 1: the whole story. So this is what Harry sent me. Okay,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'm finally achieving a bucket lit dream and running the
- 3:02Speaker 1: London Marathon this year for a cause which is quite
- 3:05Speaker 1: personal to me. My dad, Steve Wall, in January of
- 3:08Speaker 1: last year unfortunately suffered a life changing stroke. He was
- 3:13Speaker 1: a very fit individual in his fifties who was into
- 3:16Speaker 1: his running, doing local park runs and The stroke actually
- 3:19Speaker 1: took place while he was at the gym. He was
- 3:22Speaker 1: leading a healthy lifestyle and hadn't touched alcohol in years
- 3:25Speaker 1: in order to try and remain in good health into
- 3:28Speaker 1: older age, so the stroke came completely out of the blue.
- 3:32Speaker 1: It's been life changing not only for him, but also
- 3:34Speaker 1: for his family, mostly my stepmom and his two younger children,
- 3:39Speaker 1: who were both teenagers, as well as my daughter, Steve's granddaughter,
- 3:43Speaker 1: who was only four years old and struggles.
- 3:45Speaker 2: To understand the change in her granddad.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'm raising money for my dad to continue with some
- 3:50Speaker 1: of the treatments which have helped him so far. The
- 3:53Speaker 1: initial prognosis followed the stroke was pretty bleak and we
- 3:57Speaker 1: were told there was a higher probability that he would
- 4:00Speaker 1: be unable to walk, unable to move his arms, or
- 4:03Speaker 1: unable to verbally communicate. Thankfully, following a round of fundraising
- 4:08Speaker 1: we did last year, things have improved. A huge thanks
- 4:11Speaker 1: goes to Steve's friends who arranged fundraising events, but also
- 4:15Speaker 1: to followers of his Kent weather page. He has over
- 4:19Speaker 1: ten thousand followers on his Facebook page and has developed
- 4:22Speaker 1: a strong local following. On that page, he used to
- 4:26Speaker 1: deliver free daily weather forecasts and video forecasts. Even now,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I still get people coming up to me asking if
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm Steve's son and talking about the Kent Weather page,
- 4:36Speaker 1: which people found genuinely useful in their lives. We did
- 4:41Speaker 1: an initial round of fundraising on that page, which generated
- 4:44Speaker 1: a great deal of money and was really helpful for
- 4:46Speaker 1: his treatment. This latest fundraising activity from my marathon is
- 4:52Speaker 1: partly to continue some of those treatments which he wouldn't
- 4:55Speaker 1: be able to get on the NHS. The treatments he's
- 4:58Speaker 1: already received have helped to communicate again. He is now
- 5:03Speaker 1: able to walk short distances and has regained some of
- 5:06Speaker 1: the use of his arms as well, and that's completely
- 5:08Speaker 1: thanks to the money that's been raised in the past.
- 5:12Speaker 1: He's even been able to get back to doing some
- 5:13Speaker 1: weather forecasting on his page by some assistive technology. Any
- 5:18Speaker 1: further progress from this point will be massively beneficial to
- 5:22Speaker 1: be ensuring that he has a better quality of life,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and hopefully the donations will help with that now. In
- 5:28Speaker 1: addition to that, I'll also be donating money from my
- 5:31Speaker 1: marathon fundraiser to two local charities which have been amazingly
- 5:35Speaker 1: supportive to my dad and his wider family. The first
- 5:39Speaker 1: is the Kent Association for the Blind. Now, while my
- 5:42Speaker 1: dad has made progress with speech and walking, one long
- 5:45Speaker 1: lasting impact of the stroke is that unfortunately he's been
- 5:49Speaker 1: left and mostly blind. He's completely blind in one eye
- 5:52Speaker 1: and only has partial vision in the other. The Kent
- 5:56Speaker 1: Association for the Blind have been really helpful in unlooking
- 5:59Speaker 1: resources for my dad and my stepmom and have been
- 6:02Speaker 1: very supportive throughout that journey.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Now.
- 6:06Speaker 1: The other charity is care and Support is Kent. My
- 6:09Speaker 1: dad is now completely unable to work and as such
- 6:12Speaker 1: my stepmom as had to give up full time work
- 6:15Speaker 1: to become his full time career again. They have been
- 6:18Speaker 1: hugely supportive in helping her understand what funding is available
- 6:22Speaker 1: and in providing general help and support. In terms of
- 6:26Speaker 1: the London Marathon itself, I've been applying for the last
- 6:29Speaker 1: ten years to get into the event without success, and
- 6:33Speaker 1: this just so happened to be the year I've got
- 6:35Speaker 1: lucky in the ballot. It certainly feels like a twist
- 6:39Speaker 1: of fate, considering now that I have such personal calls
- 6:41Speaker 1: to raise money for. It's always been something I've watched
- 6:45Speaker 1: on TV, even from a really young age, and well
- 6:48Speaker 1: before I was inter running, and it's always been something
- 6:51Speaker 1: I've wanted to do and I'm really excited to finally
- 6:54Speaker 1: have the opportunity to take part. And having a personal
- 6:57Speaker 1: cause to raise money for this has certainly made all
- 7:00Speaker 1: the training a lot easier through the wet and cold weather.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So it's a huge, huge thank you from the whole
- 7:06Speaker 1: family to everybody who has donated and supported. Now, Harry
- 7:12Speaker 1: goes on to say that he'd be catching the first
- 7:14Speaker 1: train up to London in the morning and quite a
- 7:17Speaker 1: few family and friends who'll be lying in the route
- 7:19Speaker 1: at various points, and as part of his training, he's
- 7:23Speaker 1: not at a single beer, no alcohol at all, and
- 7:26Speaker 1: he doesn't plan to have one until after that marathon
- 7:28Speaker 1: is done, so they're all going to meet up at
- 7:30Speaker 1: a pub and have a nice plant. He's very ambitious, actually,
- 7:34Speaker 1: he's hoping for a target of less than three hours,
- 7:37Speaker 1: which is pretty good. Running training is going well. He's
- 7:41Speaker 1: got his fingers crossed that the day itself isn't too hot,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and even more fingers crossed that he doesn't get injured
- 7:47Speaker 1: in the last few weeks of training.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Now having a.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Ballot place is so lucky really, because there's no pressure
- 7:54Speaker 1: on you to raise money. But having said that, Harry's
- 7:57Speaker 1: raised one five hundred and thirty pound of a two
- 8:00Speaker 1: thousand pound target, and he wants to thank everybody that
- 8:04Speaker 1: has already donated to the fundraiser, and he especially wants
- 8:08Speaker 1: to thank the family around him. He's doing this on
- 8:11Speaker 1: his own, but he does need a team behind him
- 8:13Speaker 1: to back him, you know, to listen to him waffling
- 8:16Speaker 1: on the bell, his racing and he's running, and his
- 8:20Speaker 1: stats and how he's feeling. So a special special thank
- 8:23Speaker 1: you goes to step Mumblin's younger siblings Archie and Annabel,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and his daughter Isabella, and I hope they're all going
- 8:31Speaker 1: to be there on that finish line to cheer your home.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 8:35Speaker 1: That's the story from Harry, and what a lovely story
- 8:37Speaker 1: it is too. It's a bit double edged, doesn't it,
- 8:40Speaker 1: Like these stories are. It's sort of happy sad stories
- 8:42Speaker 1: are so sad about his dad only fifty, but the
- 8:45Speaker 1: family are backing Harry to have a great day and
- 8:49Speaker 1: raise some money.
- 8:50Speaker 2: So there you go. What a lovely, lovely story that was.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Okay, So I'm hoping I'm going up to London actually
- 8:57Speaker 1: to watch the race so, and I'm hoping this is
- 8:59Speaker 1: going to be on that Sunday. It's going to be
- 9:01Speaker 1: a lovely day. So what better tune to play than
- 9:05Speaker 1: this one by You're with.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Us when a wake up in the morning.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Been with us a lovely day like today, unless hope
- 9:44Speaker 1: it's a lovely day on the marathon, but not too hot.
- 9:46Speaker 1: We don't want it too hot for him, you know,
- 9:48Speaker 1: especially they've been training in the cold weather and the
- 9:51Speaker 1: wet and that we do want him to to dehydrate
- 9:54Speaker 1: on the day. So that was a lovely story about
- 9:58Speaker 1: Harry and his dad Steve. And I hope that all
- 10:00Speaker 1: the group on the WhatsApp there and are listening in.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And a big thank you to Cleo for putting me
- 10:08Speaker 1: in touch with Harry. Okay, so it's time for some
- 10:13Speaker 1: hockey news now, So we're going to start with the
- 10:15Speaker 1: men's first eleven. Well, it's not been a good season
- 10:17Speaker 1: for them. You know, they've got promotion last year and
- 10:20Speaker 1: they've found it really tough in the Premier Division. They
- 10:24Speaker 1: lost five too on Saturday to seven Oaks and it's
- 10:27Speaker 1: looking bleak. They must now win the last two games
- 10:30Speaker 1: and hope other results go their way. But I mean,
- 10:33Speaker 1: it's been a learning curve, hasn't it. I mean, if
- 10:34Speaker 1: it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But I'm sure they're bounce back and have a good
- 10:39Speaker 1: season next year now. The second men's second eleven eleven
- 10:44Speaker 1: they beat Ashford five to two. Alex Wisha got Hatrick
- 10:49Speaker 1: Haul Cheap and a Brendan Cheeseman got one each. The
- 10:52Speaker 1: third team they beat Gore Caught for to one. Lorcan
- 10:55Speaker 1: Doyle got two goals and after Ireland he got two
- 10:59Speaker 1: as well. Men's fourth team they beat They beat Herne
- 11:04Speaker 1: Bay seven to four. Listen to this, Charlie Pepper has
- 11:07Speaker 1: got four times, Ben Allen, Kyle Mackett and Johnny Benson
- 11:11Speaker 1: getting the other three. The fifth team they beat Suton
- 11:15Speaker 1: Valence three to two. Ben Taylor, Ray Semondini and Gem
- 11:21Speaker 1: Michott all got one each. The men's sixteen they beat
- 11:25Speaker 1: seven Oaks three to two, Taylor Russell, Evan Carter and
- 11:28Speaker 1: Herbie Simpson on the score sheheet. The fourth teen no sorry.
- 11:32Speaker 1: The men's seventh team they lost to Sitting Born at
- 11:36Speaker 1: fourteen the two to one, Riley Gordon getting the single goal.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And the men's eighth team they drew four all. Now
- 11:42Speaker 1: that's the score you don't often see in hockey four
- 11:45Speaker 1: all draw Tim Beggs, Will Smith and Warrick Ware Wrerick
- 11:48Speaker 1: Wait Oh Tim got too. Tim Begg's got two there,
- 11:51Speaker 1: so not too bad for the old men. They've done
- 11:53Speaker 1: really well. The Ladies Ladies first team were they've already
- 11:58Speaker 1: won the league, probably took their off the peddler a
- 12:00Speaker 1: little bit. They drew one or with Maidstone on Saturday,
- 12:04Speaker 1: Beckashaw getting the goal. The second team they drew a
- 12:07Speaker 1: too all Emily Allen, Izzy Timmings getting the goals. Third
- 12:11Speaker 1: team they beat seven Oaks four, Neil em pull And
- 12:14Speaker 1: getting two, Pully Richie and Siena Craig getting the others.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Ladies fourth team they beat seven Oaks three to two.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Susie Hill scored twice and Imageen Richie he got the
- 12:26Speaker 1: third Ladies fifteen well they lost five to one to
- 12:30Speaker 1: Deal unfortunately. Christina Gridsey Bovska. I've been back all day
- 12:36Speaker 1: the nights practicing that name. I've got it right, Christina
- 12:40Speaker 1: Christine Grizzy Bobska and the Ladies sixteen where they did
- 12:43Speaker 1: navigame but a massive game was on Sunday. A well
- 12:48Speaker 1: done to the under sixteen girls team who beat Trojans
- 12:51Speaker 1: under sixteen girls who come from Eastleigh near Southampton.
- 12:54Speaker 2: This was at the Three Hills.
- 12:56Speaker 1: They beat him in the National plate semi final. So
- 12:59Speaker 1: yet junior team from the Folks and Optimius Hockey Club
- 13:03Speaker 1: reaches another national final. It seems that it's every year,
- 13:07Speaker 1: isn't it. At least one team a different age group
- 13:10Speaker 1: goes up to goes up to the final. Now the
- 13:14Speaker 1: game must have been very close in fact, because the
- 13:16Speaker 1: final score was one all. Now the competition. In this competition,
- 13:21Speaker 1: the result was decided on shuffles. Now do you know
- 13:24Speaker 1: what a shuffle is? Well, I didn't know either. I
- 13:27Speaker 1: had to contact Amy from the club to tell me.
- 13:29Speaker 1: But there was a little video on the Facebook page
- 13:33Speaker 1: and it's you could see what it is. It's like
- 13:36Speaker 1: a there's no penalties. It's a one to one with
- 13:39Speaker 1: the keeper to try and try and score instead of penalties.
- 13:43Speaker 1: But the player only has eight seconds of play allowed.
- 13:46Speaker 1: So the final score of the shuffles was Optimus three
- 13:49Speaker 1: a Trojans one. So the date and venue of the
- 13:52Speaker 1: final was yet to be published, and indeed the oppositions
- 13:55Speaker 1: are known at the moment. Well, I don't know anyway.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I expect it will be announced soon. But be fair,
- 14:00Speaker 1: if it's an under under sixteens, the national team doesn't.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Really matter about the opposition, does it.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I mean they've both they've got to be good, they've
- 14:07Speaker 1: got to be good and they're going to be as
- 14:09Speaker 1: equal standing as the oorps. So it's just to get
- 14:12Speaker 1: to the final. It's a great achievement. And the Folks
- 14:16Speaker 1: and Optimists Club keep churning out these junior teams that
- 14:19Speaker 1: make these finals.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So what a great achievement.
- 14:22Speaker 1: So well done to everybody at the under sixteens, all
- 14:25Speaker 1: the parents, the coaches and of course the team themselves.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Right, Oh, another summer song? Do you remember this one
- 14:31Speaker 2: summer of sixty nine? Was you were around in sixty nine?
- 14:34Speaker 2: I was?
- 14:34Speaker 1: This is Brian Adams a cover first real sistrum.
- 14:43Speaker 3: What it out? The father and played?
- 14:47Speaker 5: It's in the fingers play the Summer of sixteen.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Summer of sixty nine, recorded in eighty five. Lovely summer track. Okay,
- 15:12Speaker 1: so what have we got now? He got some netball news? Yes,
- 15:17Speaker 1: now the summer season. The netball summer season started last night,
- 15:21Speaker 1: in fact, Wednesday, the eighteenth of March because they play
- 15:24Speaker 1: on Wednesdays at either six forty five or eight pm.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And now they've got two venues.
- 15:29Speaker 1: They've recently expanded and they were at the Three Hills,
- 15:33Speaker 1: but now they hold in the competitions at the Turner
- 15:36Speaker 1: School as well. And this is just because netball has
- 15:39Speaker 1: become so popular and it's great to see any sport
- 15:42Speaker 1: in Folkston have becoming more and more popular.
- 15:45Speaker 2: They've now got.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Two new teams joining us this season, so they've got
- 15:51Speaker 1: thirteen teams which is split into two divisions and ours.
- 15:55Speaker 1: They are having their annual Easter Tournament that's on Saturday,
- 15:58Speaker 1: the fourth of March at where they've got ten teams entered.
- 16:03Speaker 1: They're also holding a raffle to raise money, so if
- 16:05Speaker 1: you know of anyone who could raise money, that would
- 16:07Speaker 1: be amazing, the sponsors or anything like that. Now they're
- 16:11Speaker 1: raising it for the National Development Trust, which was founded
- 16:14Speaker 1: in twenty twelve and this delivers projects in five countries Uganda, Kenya, India,
- 16:21Speaker 1: Pakistan and Ghana using netball to educate, create opportunities and
- 16:26Speaker 1: prove the health of the communities they serve. So I mean,
- 16:30Speaker 1: if you fancy giving netball a try. Please please just
- 16:32Speaker 1: get in touch with the folks the Netball League. They're
- 16:34Speaker 1: on Facebook and Instagram and they're always looking out for
- 16:40Speaker 1: people that love this. Might want to be a floater. Now,
- 16:45Speaker 1: if you want to be a netball floater, that means
- 16:47Speaker 1: someone that can't commit to being in a regular team.
- 16:52Speaker 1: There's every chance that you could get a game every
- 16:54Speaker 1: now and then you put your name down on the list,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and you know, perhaps you might be working one Wednesday
- 17:00Speaker 1: but not working another Wednesday and there's a team short.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Then the you know you could get again. So and
- 17:07Speaker 1: the good thing is that I've been in touch with Ashley.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Ashley is the folks with netbaw League chairperson and she
- 17:14Speaker 1: has said she's going to come in. So we're just
- 17:15Speaker 1: trying to work out a date and because there's a
- 17:18Speaker 1: lots more going on and she's got loads to tell us.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So stay tuned and keep an eye on my Facebook
- 17:24Speaker 1: page to find out when Ashley is coming in right
- 17:29Speaker 1: next coming up. These songs are just reminded me of
- 17:32Speaker 1: summer so much. You know this was This came out
- 17:34Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy two and I love this song. This
- 17:37Speaker 1: Lovely Lady Carly Simon and you're so.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Vain you are to the party.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Carly Simon.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And I've always reckoned that that's Mick Jagger in the
- 18:09Speaker 1: background singing on the on the lyrics there.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure of it.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I've been shot Dann in Flames a few times about
- 18:18Speaker 1: the people in the background, but I reckon that's Jack
- 18:22Speaker 1: okay some of for some football news now, Well, folks
- 18:25Speaker 1: and in Victor had a really tough game on their
- 18:27Speaker 1: hands last week when they entertained playoff chasing Dartford, going
- 18:31Speaker 1: into one down at halftime in Victor mister penalty in
- 18:34Speaker 1: the second half, but equalized shortly afterwards.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Thanks to a Joe Pigott goal.
- 18:39Speaker 1: The crowd of one four hundred and eighty eight saw
- 18:42Speaker 1: a very competitive game, but life for in Victor fan
- 18:45Speaker 1: these days is very frustrating as they seem to find
- 18:48Speaker 1: it that not the fans, but the team find it
- 18:50Speaker 1: harder to bang in the goals than they did earlier
- 18:53Speaker 1: on in the season. But they've got a luxury of
- 18:55Speaker 1: a thirteen point cushion. But they head off to third
- 18:59Speaker 1: place the Brent With on Saturday for another tough game.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Everyone's trying to knock them off the top spot, aren't they,
- 19:04Speaker 1: And rightly so, and that's what you've got to face
- 19:06Speaker 1: when you are so far ahead in the league. But
- 19:08Speaker 1: they've just got to keep their noses in front. Five
- 19:12Speaker 1: Towns away game at Tunbridge Wells has postponed due to
- 19:14Speaker 1: a water log pitch, and the only good thing to
- 19:17Speaker 1: come out of Saturday was a relegation candidates. Stansfield lost
- 19:21Speaker 1: one deil against Chiselhurst, leaving a three point gap between
- 19:25Speaker 1: between them and High but Stansfield have a game in hand.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Third from bottom Faversham Strikeforce, which good news for Hive
- 19:33Speaker 1: also lost one neil, but they are still seven points
- 19:36Speaker 1: clear of Hive and they've also got a game in hand,
- 19:39Speaker 1: so it's I just got to keep on going, haven't they.
- 19:42Speaker 1: They've got focused at one end and Hive at the
- 19:45Speaker 1: other end. It really is a battle for both clubs
- 19:49Speaker 1: to keep their noses in front. Third place Hawkins made
- 19:53Speaker 1: an excellent four nail home win against the fourth place
- 19:57Speaker 1: Aylesford in the Kent County Premier Division. Els New Romney
- 20:00Speaker 1: suffered a two nil away defeat against Stansfield Reserves.
- 20:05Speaker 2: This Saturday.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Hawkins are home to attended in Town and New Romney
- 20:09Speaker 1: are away to Canterbury City, both in the league. Now
- 20:13Speaker 1: sadly the Evictor disability team. It's the first time I've
- 20:17Speaker 1: ever remember this. They had to concede the scheduled eleven
- 20:20Speaker 1: a side game against Tyler Hill due to too many
- 20:23Speaker 1: injured players and unavailabilities. They could only have raised nine
- 20:28Speaker 1: fit players, so they now must wait on a decision
- 20:31Speaker 1: from the league and the FA for the outcome. You know,
- 20:34Speaker 1: sometimes it could be a fine, they could be dot
- 20:36Speaker 1: the points. We don't know, So we just got weight.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And see on that one. And the in victil Eadies
- 20:41Speaker 2: where they had a good result.
- 20:42Speaker 1: They beat Deal the last Sunday one nil away and
- 20:45Speaker 1: this Sunday they're at home to Faversham Faversham Strikeforce with
- 20:49Speaker 1: a two pm kickoff.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And talking about Faversham. Now, the Kent.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Disability team play in a disability Football League and they
- 20:57Speaker 1: have a monthly tournament over at Faversham, but they're not
- 21:00Speaker 1: in it this week. There is a junior tournament, but
- 21:03Speaker 1: I must just tell you that this has been canceled
- 21:06Speaker 1: and this is due to the meningitis outbreak. So the organizers,
- 21:12Speaker 1: in their wisdom, I think, have just said take no
- 21:15Speaker 1: chances you know a group of youngsters altogether, and so
- 21:20Speaker 1: I always think perhaps you know, in the weeks to come,
- 21:22Speaker 1: until this is all quite and down, there could be
- 21:25Speaker 1: other sporting type events that are canceled. So if you're
- 21:29Speaker 1: training for anything, or you've put your name down for
- 21:32Speaker 1: something in the Canterbury Fabusham area, please check the websites
- 21:39Speaker 1: or any social media before you travel, before you even
- 21:43Speaker 1: think about going, because this is a grave situation. Some
- 21:47Speaker 1: people are treating it lightly, but believe you me, it's
- 21:50Speaker 1: a really grave situation, especially for youngsters.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Right, So moving on now another summary listening sound. I
- 21:58Speaker 2: love this one.
- 21:59Speaker 1: This is the Eagles there in the Hotel California. Eagles
- 22:22Speaker 1: there in nineteen seventy seven. And if you get a chance,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I think they're coming back to the league. Cliffall, go
- 22:27Speaker 1: and see the illegal close your eyes and you think
- 22:31Speaker 1: you are listening to the original genuine Eagles.
- 22:34Speaker 2: They are really awesome. They really are.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Okay, so we've got a bit more sports squeeze in.
- 22:38Speaker 1: We're going to go with a bit of a local rugby. Now,
- 22:40Speaker 1: well it was a day well, in fact, there wasn't
- 22:42Speaker 1: any local rugby because it was a day full of
- 22:44Speaker 1: six Nations and what a day it was. Now the
- 22:47Speaker 1: TV pundits were running out of superlatives to describe the
- 22:51Speaker 1: whole tournament and indeed the final game, which went down
- 22:54Speaker 1: to the very last kick of the match, France were
- 22:57Speaker 1: crowned the champions, but it was so close. England were
- 23:00Speaker 1: winning by two points with just a couple of minutes
- 23:03Speaker 1: to go, but they conceded a penalty and Thomas Ramos
- 23:07Speaker 1: has slotted it in between the posts for the forty
- 23:10Speaker 1: eight to forty six victory. If he'd have missed that kick,
- 23:13Speaker 1: Ireland would have been overall tournament winners. And can you
- 23:16Speaker 1: imagine being an Irish fan in Ireland in a pack
- 23:20Speaker 1: bar in Dublin and you're watching the last second tick
- 23:24Speaker 1: away and you're willing him to miss that kick, and
- 23:27Speaker 1: he does and he slots it over and that trophy
- 23:31Speaker 1: is snatched away from you.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Oh what a feeling. It must be awful, wasn't it,
- 23:35Speaker 2: you know?
- 23:36Speaker 1: But fair play to the French. They had their noses
- 23:38Speaker 1: in front throughout the whole tournament. Now, if you follow
- 23:41Speaker 1: the six Nations, it'll be a day of It was
- 23:43Speaker 1: a day of world class rugby to be remembered for
- 23:45Speaker 1: a lifetime. Meanwhile, turning to the local rugby scene. This
- 23:50Speaker 1: coming Saturday, the folks then at first fifteen they are
- 23:52Speaker 1: a way to Westcombe Park, second fifteen which means a
- 23:55Speaker 1: trip to Orpington Folkstone, second fifteen are at home to
- 24:01Speaker 1: a Medway fourth fifteen and on Sunday the ladies are
- 24:05Speaker 1: at home to Ashford. So a busy local weekend of
- 24:08Speaker 1: rugby there. But why not try and get down to
- 24:12Speaker 1: the Burlington Fields on Sunday because it's more than just
- 24:16Speaker 1: a game with the ladies. They've got a girl's rugby
- 24:19Speaker 1: open day, so why don't you, you know, parents, take
- 24:24Speaker 1: your daughter down there, get a friend to go along
- 24:26Speaker 1: and try a rugby. There's food, fun and community activities
- 24:31Speaker 1: and they're also delighted to welcome former England Captain Catherine
- 24:35Speaker 1: Spencer as the guest speaker, inspiring the next generation of
- 24:39Speaker 1: girls to get into rugby. So get down there on
- 24:42Speaker 1: Sunday and just go to the local folks on Rugby
- 24:46Speaker 1: Club Facebook page and all the information is on there.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I'll tell you what Catherine Spencer, I've read her book.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Actually a local girl never forgotten her roots, turned out
- 24:56Speaker 1: to be England captain. I must get her on the
- 24:58Speaker 1: show What's Your Reckon? Right over two minutes of seventeen
- 25:02Speaker 1: seconds of the Beach Boys now Surfing USA.
- 25:11Speaker 6: The USA. Then everybody.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Still conjuring up summer sounds there nineteen sixty three Surfing USA.
- 25:35Speaker 1: They made them some short in those days. Do you
- 25:37Speaker 1: want to say two minutes seventeen whereas the Eagles was
- 25:39Speaker 1: six minutes fifteen. So it's thee en up a bit
- 25:42Speaker 1: of time. So I've got a couple more reports to
- 25:44Speaker 1: get through, and we're going to start this one with
- 25:46Speaker 1: the Eastern school holidays camps approaching. Now, I found three
- 25:50Speaker 1: different organizations that have a program of activities. Now I'm
- 25:54Speaker 1: not going to go into great detail detail about them
- 25:57Speaker 1: as they all offer slightly different activities, so we'll just
- 26:00Speaker 1: say a little about them all and leave the parents
- 26:02Speaker 1: to decide what's best for their child. So we have
- 26:05Speaker 1: the school camps at Three Hills organized by the Sports Trust,
- 26:08Speaker 1: which offer Bounty Castle football, creative sessions and much more.
- 26:13Speaker 1: These are held from the thirteenth to the sixteenth of April,
- 26:16Speaker 1: so just contact the Sports Trust via the website or
- 26:19Speaker 1: the Facebook page. Next Generation Sports Coaching offer dodgeball and
- 26:24Speaker 1: a football camp and a multi Sports Camp. These are
- 26:28Speaker 1: held at the Harvey Grammar School, covering days the seventh, eighth, ninth,
- 26:32Speaker 1: plus the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth of April. Same again,
- 26:36Speaker 1: visit Next Generation Sports Coaching facebook page where there's a
- 26:39Speaker 1: link to their website. And the third is the Elite
- 26:43Speaker 1: Community Coaching who offer basketball, cricket, archery, inflatables, arts and
- 26:49Speaker 1: crafts and much more.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And they around. They are around all over the area.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Actually they are at the following venues Shepherds Wild Primary,
- 26:59Speaker 1: Steward Center, Ashford, christ Church School in Folkeston, jim Church Primary,
- 27:04Speaker 1: the Juli Ro Stadium and Saltwood Primary. They cover from
- 27:08Speaker 1: the seventh to the sixteenth of April. But for further
- 27:11Speaker 1: information you guessed it, go to the Elite Community Coach
- 27:14Speaker 1: in UK Limited facebook page where there's a link to
- 27:18Speaker 1: their website. So the only advice I'd give parents is
- 27:21Speaker 1: to check out all the information pages and find out
- 27:24Speaker 1: what is suitable for your budget and of course what
- 27:26Speaker 1: is best and most interesting for your child.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Right, I'm going to move straight on.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I do want to get this one out the way
- 27:34Speaker 1: because last night I had a meeting about this one
- 27:36Speaker 1: with two lovely ladies. Now I want to bring your
- 27:39Speaker 1: attention to a forthcoming charity football match raising money for
- 27:43Speaker 1: Pilgrim's Hospices. It's in memory of local man Alex Miles
- 27:47Speaker 1: and is organized by his widow Ruth and her friend Fran.
- 27:51Speaker 1: It will consist of two teams with a strong connection
- 27:54Speaker 1: with Alex. It's the Blue Light Legends, a team of
- 27:57Speaker 1: policemen as Alex was in the Force, Owls All Stars,
- 28:01Speaker 1: which is made up of Alex's friends and family. It's
- 28:05Speaker 1: going to take place at the Folks in Evictor Ground
- 28:08Speaker 1: on Saturday, the eighteenth of April. Dates open at twelve
- 28:11Speaker 1: thirty with the kickoff at two twenty two. Now this
- 28:15Speaker 1: is because there's going to be a two minute silence
- 28:17Speaker 1: at two twenty and then they're going to start the game.
- 28:21Speaker 1: There'll be a bouncy castle for the kids and singer
- 28:24Speaker 1: Ellie Luise will be entertaining the crowd for an hour
- 28:27Speaker 1: before the game. There'll be an after party at the
- 28:30Speaker 1: dugout from seven thirty with a disco for anyone that
- 28:32Speaker 1: wishes to join in. Tickets are aready five pounds for
- 28:36Speaker 1: adults that's sixteen and upwards, two pounds for children that's
- 28:40Speaker 1: ages two to fifteen and under twos are free. And
- 28:44Speaker 1: as I said, this is a raising money for Pilgrim's Hospices.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Last year they did a football match and they raised
- 28:51Speaker 1: money for Cancer Research UK. But these two charities are
- 28:55Speaker 1: special to the family, and the hospice is a special
- 28:59Speaker 1: place in a lot people's hearts in this area. So
- 29:02Speaker 1: why not come along have a great football fun day
- 29:04Speaker 1: and at the same time support of Pilgrim's Hospice. And
- 29:07Speaker 1: the good news is I'm pleased to say that Ruth
- 29:10Speaker 1: and Fran are coming in on the Saturday Show with
- 29:12Speaker 1: Me and Ady on Saturday the fourth of April to
- 29:15Speaker 1: tell us all about it.
- 29:17Speaker 2: So more summer songs. Now here we go. We've got
- 29:19Speaker 2: to play.
- 29:19Speaker 1: This one is the Beatles, and let's hope that it
- 29:22Speaker 1: stays with us because here comes the Sun, he comes.
- 29:26Speaker 3: The Sun, he comes a sud.
- 29:33Speaker 5: It's all right, okay.
- 29:44Speaker 1: So that was the Beatles there nineteen sixty nine three.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I was just having a bit of a cough affair
- 29:49Speaker 1: there and I just want to say hello.
- 29:53Speaker 2: To Cleo there.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Cleo and she was the lady that's former guests of
- 29:57Speaker 1: the show that put me on to Harry actually, because
- 30:01Speaker 1: they're friends of the family, and she's just texting to
- 30:04Speaker 1: say it sounds like I've got a bit of a
- 30:06Speaker 1: sore throat. You're right there, Cleo. It seems that all
- 30:09Speaker 1: the time I'm getting a bit croaky. I think it's
- 30:11Speaker 1: all these years of talking on the microphone and shouting
- 30:14Speaker 1: at people, you know, cheering them in across the line.
- 30:16Speaker 2: I think it's taking its toll.
- 30:18Speaker 1: You know, we'd love to perhaps get down to the
- 30:20Speaker 1: doctors and and what does she say, Let's see what.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Does she recommend?
- 30:25Speaker 1: Drink lots of lemon and ginger and with a little
- 30:28Speaker 1: hot whiskey in between. I think right so nearly at
- 30:31Speaker 1: the end of the show now, and it's just suns
- 30:36Speaker 1: out and it just makes everyone that little bit bounce yere,
- 30:38Speaker 1: doesn't it. And it's it's you know, it's so important
- 30:41Speaker 1: that people keep happy. And I've got to go around
- 30:45Speaker 1: to my partner Susan now and think about she've been
- 30:48Speaker 1: going on at me for ages. Cut that grass? Well,
- 30:50Speaker 1: it must have be's getting long. I'll only just take
- 30:52Speaker 1: the top of it. Have you cut your grass yet?
- 30:54Speaker 2: You know it's a.
- 30:56Speaker 1: It's a job once you start, She said, Oh, can
- 30:58Speaker 1: you just you know, low the blade a little bit more.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yeah right, okay, do you know what, I've just realized
- 31:04Speaker 1: the time we are running totally our time.
- 31:07Speaker 2: That's it for me for today.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'll be back on Saturday between ten and eleven with Ady.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And if you fancy watching thirty six teams of under
- 31:14Speaker 1: tens playing hockey, then come along on Sunday to the
- 31:17Speaker 1: Under tens County Championship.
- 31:19Speaker 2: At the Three Heels. They've got girls in the morning,
- 31:22Speaker 2: boys in the afternoon.
- 31:23Speaker 1: When as a parent you might have a child under
- 31:25Speaker 1: ten who's wanted to try hockey, or Sunday is a
- 31:29Speaker 1: perfect day to come along, watch and enjoy the enthusiasm
- 31:32Speaker 1: of these youngsters in what is an ever growing sport.
- 31:36Speaker 1: And it's a chance to chat to some of the
- 31:38Speaker 1: optimists junior coaches.
- 31:40Speaker 2: But there you go. I'm going to see you Sunday, Saturday.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Sorry on Point online at Radio Folkston dot com and
- 31:51Speaker 1: on your smart speaker.
