- 0:01Speaker 1: Wave.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:13Speaker 2: My name is Beaumont E.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Jones.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Thanks for listening wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for
- 0:17Speaker 2: watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us,
- 0:21Speaker 2: give us five stars. You only give us four stars.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We gave
- 0:27Speaker 2: y'all episodes, but I was on the road last week.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Saw y'all kind of went a little crazy on a
- 0:33Speaker 2: topic that I'll get to in just a moment. But first,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm going to be perfectly honest with you. I decided
- 0:40Speaker 2: I wanted to, you know, take a little time, so
- 0:42Speaker 2: I went and took a little time. But I specifically
- 0:44Speaker 2: set it up so that I would be back here
- 0:48Speaker 2: on the morning of April the 18th because the playoffs
- 0:52Speaker 2: were going to start. And, Ryan, I believe this is
- 0:55Speaker 2: our first NBA playoffs that we have done together.
- 0:59Speaker 3: We did a little bit last year. We were just all–
- 1:01Speaker 3: this is our first– Start of the playoffs.
- 1:04Speaker 2: That's right. First start. OK, I'm bad. I am bad
- 1:07Speaker 2: at remembering when exactly we got this whole thing started.
- 1:11Speaker 2: The beginning of the playoffs. Hey, man, this is people
- 1:15Speaker 2: who follow me and have done my shows for a while.
- 1:17Speaker 2: They understand this. Some people don't like to hear me
- 1:19Speaker 2: when it gets to the point of complaining. This is
- 1:21Speaker 2: my absolute favorite time of the sporting calendar. We have
- 1:24Speaker 2: great basketball just about every single night and it kicks
- 1:28Speaker 2: my ass. It is a tough one when you get
- 1:32Speaker 2: into them late nights, and them late nights start stacking up,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and they start stacking up, and they start stacking up,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and people are like, oh, you complaining about getting paid
- 1:40Speaker 2: to watch basketball? Nope, I'm complaining about staying up late.
- 1:44Speaker 3: 1040 tips on NBC.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yo! Are you serious? I guess that, yeah, I guess
- 1:50Speaker 2: I could... Look, here we are. That's all I'm saying.
- 1:54Speaker 2: That's all I'm saying.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It's going to be a fun eight weeks.
- 1:57Speaker 2: It's a great time. We're going to be a little
- 1:59Speaker 2: cranky from time to time as it goes. The only
- 2:03Speaker 2: thing is the play-in game has made the opening weekend
- 2:07Speaker 2: a little bit janky just because you wind up having
- 2:11Speaker 2: four series that involve teams that just got through playing
- 2:14Speaker 2: some real high stakes basketball and i haven't researched this
- 2:18Speaker 2: but anecdotally those playing teams go out there and get
- 2:21Speaker 2: their asses kicked to start the playoffs it feels like
- 2:24Speaker 2: a tradition unlike any other they come out there and
- 2:27Speaker 2: they get their asses kicked but we got a good
- 2:30Speaker 2: setup i thought on saturday right i thought we um Toronto,
- 2:35Speaker 2: shout out to you guys. You know, welcome to the playoffs.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That was not. They got Cleveland, smoked them. James Harden
- 2:42Speaker 2: looked excellent. Remember, the problem with James Harden is not
- 2:45Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 2:46Speaker 3: It's the last few games of the playoffs.
- 2:47Speaker 2: The last game of the season. That's the one that's bad.
- 2:50Speaker 2: But otherwise, they looked really good. And I have no
- 2:53Speaker 2: problem admitting this, right? Like, people throw that casual thing
- 2:57Speaker 2: around like it's an insult. And I'm like, nah, man.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I just a little bit busier than you are in
- 3:02Speaker 2: some respects and the playoffs. I don't try to find
- 3:05Speaker 2: out what's going on with everybody at the beginning of
- 3:07Speaker 2: the year. If you worth it, I will find this
- 3:09Speaker 2: out in these two months of playoff basketball and the
- 3:12Speaker 2: playoffs will run two months in one day this year.
- 3:15Speaker 2: If you get to a game seven of the NBA finals,
- 3:18Speaker 2: do the Toronto Raptors. I feel like whatever the Raptors
- 3:21Speaker 2: make it to the playoffs this time of year is
- 3:23Speaker 2: called meet the Raptors. We find out about all kinds
- 3:26Speaker 2: of things that's going on with the Raptors at this
- 3:29Speaker 2: time of year. Like, Who was their coach, for example?
- 3:33Speaker 2: They got Brandon Ingram. They got Scottie Barnes. They got
- 3:36Speaker 2: Purtle and Raptors.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yes, and other Raptors.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Other Raptors who better get their asses in line because
- 3:43Speaker 2: they got smoked in that last game, right? But the
- 3:47Speaker 2: most interesting game so far, I think, and we'll talk
- 3:49Speaker 2: about others in a few, but the most interesting game
- 3:50Speaker 2: was the Rockets and the Lakers.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I have no idea what's going to happen in this series.
- 3:55Speaker 2: If you think you have any idea what's going to
- 3:57Speaker 2: happen in this series, you are, as the French say,
- 3:59Speaker 2: a goddamn lie. There's no way in the world that
- 4:02Speaker 2: you can tell this. Number one, who knows what's going
- 4:05Speaker 2: on with Kevin Durant and his knee? He hurt his
- 4:09Speaker 2: knee in practice where they said it was a knee-on-knee collision,
- 4:12Speaker 2: which is the worst.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Right.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I got some questions about what kind of practice they
- 4:17Speaker 2: were having where this happened, like right, go in advance
- 4:21Speaker 2: of game one. I don't know what's going on here,
- 4:23Speaker 2: but he went out there and he tried to play.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And I think the athletic had this story. And this
- 4:27Speaker 2: is something I just didn't know really about Durant is
- 4:29Speaker 2: that he is a guy that has a reputation for
- 4:31Speaker 2: playing through stuff. Which is interesting because the last seven
- 4:34Speaker 2: years of Kevin Durant have mostly involved him not playing.
- 4:37Speaker 2: But he played 78 games this year.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:40Speaker 3: He's second most minutes in the league.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 2: He's not. He had a weak one, right? Like, he's
- 4:44Speaker 2: coming out here and he's playing games and he's certainly
- 4:46Speaker 2: going to play in the playoffs. And they said he
- 4:48Speaker 2: went out there trying to shoot before the game and
- 4:49Speaker 2: it was terrible. Right.
- 4:51Speaker 3: He looked miserable.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Couldn't do it. And look, the Rockets have enough problems.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Because they have good players. We'd all agree. They have
- 4:58Speaker 2: a decent number of good players. They just don't have
- 5:03Speaker 2: a point guard. And coming into this season, they needed
- 5:06Speaker 2: somebody to go out there and get a bucket when
- 5:08Speaker 2: you need a bucket. They still don't have a point guard.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And get a bucket when you need a bucket is
- 5:13Speaker 2: not playing. So it's basically Shingun is going to be
- 5:16Speaker 2: out there. Ahmed Thompson, who I saw people tweeting about this.
- 5:20Speaker 2: He seems destined to be this generation's man, what if
- 5:22Speaker 2: he could shoot? Right. Did you see that was going
- 5:25Speaker 2: around when people were sending the question about, man, how
- 5:28Speaker 2: good would this guy be if he could just shoot?
- 5:30Speaker 2: High on that list for me, Darius Miles.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Oh, interesting.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Darius Miles was good at everything except for two little things,
- 5:38Speaker 2: dribbling and shooting.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Important for guards.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, those two little things, those were coming up as
- 5:44Speaker 2: the issues. But for the Rockets, I don't care what happens.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You can't lose this series. No. With Kevin Durant, without
- 5:53Speaker 2: Kevin Durant, no matter how it is that you want
- 5:55Speaker 2: to spin it, this is not one that you can lose, right?
- 5:58Speaker 2: The Lakers don't have Luka Doncic. They don't have Austin Reeves.
- 6:02Speaker 2: You can't lose. And they looked bad in that game.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:08Speaker 3: They looked bad. They didn't have a plan.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And look, Ime, people were very high on Ime coming
- 6:17Speaker 2: out of that year with the Celtics. Which, by the way,
- 6:20Speaker 2: another year where he did not have a point guard,
- 6:22Speaker 2: to be fair to him. But man, those dudes would
- 6:24Speaker 2: blow some games, right?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Yeah, and same issue with a very lack of creative
- 6:30Speaker 3: offense late in games.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yes, he has tough teams. He has teams that go hard.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And I contend also that a big part of why
- 6:40Speaker 2: so many people were so into him in Boston is
- 6:46Speaker 2: deep down inside, A lot of y'all agree with Robert Sarver.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like one day, Brad Stevens,
- 6:57Speaker 2: who is an excellent coach, looked around and he would
- 7:00Speaker 2: never use the same words as Robert Sarver. But he
- 7:03Speaker 2: appeared to arrive at a very similar conclusion as Robert
- 7:07Speaker 2: Sarver and decided that those brothers needed a brother. And
- 7:12Speaker 2: E-May was the coach. And E-May came in there and
- 7:16Speaker 2: E-May was talking bad to him. calling them punks, all
- 7:20Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. I don't think he used that
- 7:21Speaker 2: exact word, but you know what I mean? But people
- 7:23Speaker 2: love the idea of somebody getting in an NBA player's face,
- 7:27Speaker 2: telling them they ain't shit. They love that. E-May did that.
- 7:30Speaker 2: They went to the finals. People was ready to put
- 7:31Speaker 2: E-May in the Hall of Fame immediately. Jimmy Butler hits
- 7:35Speaker 2: that three in those conference finals that he walked into,
- 7:39Speaker 2: and they have the biggest Game 7 collapse, I think,
- 7:42Speaker 2: maybe ever in the Eastern Conference Finals. That's the same coach,
- 7:47Speaker 2: all right? They got these guys out here, and right,
- 7:50Speaker 2: it looked like they didn't have a plan. You know
- 7:51Speaker 2: who did have a plan? Because he seems to always
- 7:54Speaker 2: have a plan, LeBron. That's who had a plan. You
- 7:58Speaker 2: know what LeBron looked like? LeBron looked like, damn, I
- 8:03Speaker 2: don't even know what to call it. LeBron looked like
- 8:07Speaker 2: he had been sitting in the back seat, riding in
- 8:09Speaker 2: the middle seat. I don't know what they call that
- 8:12Speaker 2: where you're from, Ryan, but where I'm from, they call
- 8:15Speaker 2: it but I'm not going to say it in front
- 8:16Speaker 2: of my mama. You understand what I'm saying? But LeBron
- 8:19Speaker 2: looked like.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I think backseat driving is a.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm talking about that specific seat.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Well, let's call it backseat driving.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Yeah, the one that said he wasn't even driving. He's
- 8:31Speaker 2: just in the backseat.
- 8:31Speaker 3: He's in the backseat, yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 2: He's just back there. Think about this with the backseat.
- 8:34Speaker 2: The backseat changed so much that the car makers stopped
- 8:38Speaker 2: even pretending that they were really for five.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:40Speaker 2: They started being like, all right, seats four comfortably. That's
- 8:42Speaker 2: what they started doing. But anyway, LeBron had been riding
- 8:45Speaker 2: in the back. LeBron used to drive. That's all LeBron
- 8:48Speaker 2: did was drive. Now he in the back and he
- 8:49Speaker 2: could tell people when to drive. Don't nobody care when
- 8:52Speaker 2: LeBron say to turn. Don't nobody care. Hey, you're going
- 8:54Speaker 2: a little too fast. Don't nobody care anymore. LeBron just
- 8:56Speaker 2: back there. Let me know when you need something, right?
- 8:59Speaker 2: But no, now LeBron back in the front seat. And
- 9:03Speaker 2: he was like, it's like a glove. He would hit
- 9:06Speaker 2: that preset button over there on the left. Press that
- 9:08Speaker 2: button number one. slid right back to where his legs
- 9:11Speaker 2: ordinarily go. Now you got to understand LeBron a little
- 9:13Speaker 2: older than he used to. So he got to change
- 9:15Speaker 2: the lumbar support a little bit to get him a
- 9:17Speaker 2: little bit of help or whatever it is. But he
- 9:19Speaker 2: looked very happy to be back in the position. The
- 9:23Speaker 2: only position in basketball that he has known since he
- 9:27Speaker 2: was six years old.
- 9:28Speaker 3: It's him and not just him doing that role, him
- 9:31Speaker 3: in that role. With a bunch of people, with the pips.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Yes, yes.
- 9:36Speaker 2: He's like, man, I feel like a kid again.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:39Speaker 2: This is like back to 06 or 07. I got
- 9:41Speaker 2: a white in the corner here. Living the LeBron James life.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And good for him. Because let me tell you something.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I say I don't know who's going to win this series.
- 9:51Speaker 2: We don't know who's going to win this series. If
- 9:53Speaker 2: they do, I think that this would be quite an
- 9:57Speaker 2: achievement for him. Because I don't think Reeves or Lukaku
- 10:00Speaker 2: is going to come back in the course of this series.
- 10:02Speaker 2: If he were with Kevin Durant, without Kevin Durant, whatever.
- 10:06Speaker 2: If this Lakers team that none of us at any
- 10:09Speaker 2: point this year have thought was as good as its record,
- 10:13Speaker 2: Every time they did something well, we went right back
- 10:16Speaker 2: to yeah, but, right? Their record is this. Okay, but
- 10:19Speaker 2: what is your point differential? Okay, they go on this
- 10:22Speaker 2: run where Luka is terrorizing the league at the end. Yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 2: but you're not going to do anything in the playoffs, right?
- 10:27Speaker 2: We know you don't have a chance. We know Houston
- 10:28Speaker 2: doesn't have a chance. Maybe it's okay. They worked out together.
- 10:30Speaker 2: But everything at every point was a yeah, but. If
- 10:34Speaker 2: LeBron could take these guys, he out there with a
- 10:38Speaker 2: dude that seems to cut his own hair. And all
- 10:44Speaker 2: I'm saying about that dude is I don't know what
- 10:49Speaker 2: it's been like to grow up as Rui Achimura. I don't.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I don't know what it's like to try to find
- 10:56Speaker 2: a barbershop in Tokyo when you are Rui Achimura. You
- 11:00Speaker 2: know what I mean? He's been in the league for
- 11:02Speaker 2: all these years looking like Bruce fucking Leroy with that
- 11:05Speaker 2: curly situation that he had going on there, right? Clearly
- 11:10Speaker 2: there's some things going on with him that I don't understand.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But I am going to tell him is this. You
- 11:18Speaker 2: in America, you don't have to go to Little Tokyo
- 11:21Speaker 2: to get your hair cut. The brothers will cut your
- 11:24Speaker 2: hair down there on Crenshaw or whatever it was. Somebody
- 11:28Speaker 2: might do it for you for free. But I looked
- 11:31Speaker 2: at whatever it was that he had going on in
- 11:33Speaker 2: the course of that game. I'm like, I don't even understand.
- 11:35Speaker 2: It was all straight. It was all very, very, very confusing.
- 11:39Speaker 2: And that's one of the people that LeBron James has
- 11:41Speaker 2: to rely on to make shots. A man that appears
- 11:43Speaker 2: to cut his own hair. That's tough. We're asking for
- 11:49Speaker 2: a lot out of LeBron. And LeBron got it done.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It looked good. Now, of course, Ryan, LeBron's 137 years old.
- 11:57Speaker 2: There's no telling if he's going to be able to
- 11:58Speaker 2: pull this off. in the next game.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:00Speaker 2: We don't, we don't know what it's going to look
- 12:02Speaker 2: at look like, but 19, 13 and eight and a
- 12:06Speaker 2: plus 11. Look good.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:10Speaker 3: And I mean, I think he said he, uh, like
- 12:12Speaker 3: I said, he said on that golf show, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 3: he goes to bed questionable and wakes up doubtful.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I think that's going to be either two to four
- 12:19Speaker 3: weeks of that in playoff basketball.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Hey, let me tell you who I do think though,
- 12:23Speaker 2: probably stands to gain the most out of this. Um,
- 12:27Speaker 2: That's DeAndre Ayton.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Like the only like look, Chris Paul, who already helped
- 12:33Speaker 2: DeAndre Ayton make a gazillion dollars. Right. I think Chris
- 12:35Speaker 2: Paul and LeBron are the two guys that are like, hey, man,
- 12:38Speaker 2: just go be tall. It's like buddy in the sandlot.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Just go stand over there with your hand up. You
- 12:42Speaker 2: know what I'm saying? Just stand over there like that.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Don't you worry. It'll get to you the way that
- 12:46Speaker 2: you need it.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Lakers. Shout out to them also. They got more Caucasians
- 12:52Speaker 2: in the tuck. They had two Caucasians play in that game.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And they got two that got DNP coaches decisions. When
- 12:58Speaker 2: the white boys goes down, don't you worry. Don't connect.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Getting ready. Maxie Kleber. He out there. I wonder if
- 13:07Speaker 2: he's ever heard of Maxie Priest. Anyway, that was enjoyable.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Like that game was a good one. Minnesota. So Minnesota
- 13:14Speaker 2: and Denver. I was talking to somebody about this. I
- 13:16Speaker 2: didn't realize this ride. This Minnesota dude, they don't like
- 13:19Speaker 2: the Nuggets.
- 13:20Speaker 1: No.
- 13:21Speaker 2: It is not simply like, oh, we've had some good
- 13:23Speaker 2: games or whatever it is. They don't like those dudes.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I told somebody, it's like, it don't matter what year
- 13:28Speaker 2: it is. I'm turning on Minnesota, Denver, and Anthony Edwards
- 13:31Speaker 2: is passing the ball to somebody I've never heard of.
- 13:34Speaker 2: In this case, Ayo Dusunmu, and he's hitting a wide
- 13:38Speaker 2: open three.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Like Minnesota is such a terrible matchup for whatever reason
- 13:43Speaker 2: for Denver. We saw them put them out of the
- 13:44Speaker 2: playoffs a couple of years ago. But this is going
- 13:48Speaker 2: to be a fun one. It's just I mean, it
- 13:50Speaker 2: just seems to me to be a matter of like
- 13:52Speaker 2: how well Aaron Gordon holds up.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, you saw him in the season
- 13:56Speaker 3: last year hobbling around on one leg.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Look, healthy Aaron Gordon Nuggets might be the best team
- 14:02Speaker 2: in the West. You know, like, it's there. They are
- 14:06Speaker 2: that good. Jamal Murray's been that good. Christian Brown, see,
- 14:09Speaker 2: this is why the Nuggets are going to win a
- 14:10Speaker 2: championship this year. They got the team back together that
- 14:14Speaker 2: they had for the championship that they ain't had. Brown
- 14:16Speaker 2: and Browner. Which one is which? Yeah, they got Brown back.
- 14:23Speaker 2: They got the other Brown he'd been there. Brown and
- 14:26Speaker 2: Brown is back in business, baby. It's out here making
- 14:28Speaker 2: it happen.
- 14:29Speaker 5: You know?
- 14:30Speaker 2: Also, I felt like Christian Brown and my boy Dante,
- 14:34Speaker 2: they was out there looking like the Spider-Man being in
- 14:36Speaker 2: that game.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 14:39Speaker 2: They're the same guy.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:42Speaker 2: They even get their hair cut by the same dude.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Someone who they need to introduce to Rumi Achimura. But
- 14:54Speaker 2: that's a good game. Hawks Nuggets. I mean, Hawks Nuggets.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Hawks and Knicks. That's going to be interesting. I talked
- 15:00Speaker 2: to Vinny there. Madison Square Garden was cracking, but also
- 15:03Speaker 2: like tense in there. The mayor got it wrong where
- 15:06Speaker 2: he talked about blaming everything on Trey Young. Did you
- 15:09Speaker 2: see that?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Yeah. I think that's a good bit, though.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Can I have safe space?
- 15:15Speaker 5: Always.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I forgot to. I was like, I don't understand why
- 15:19Speaker 2: people are sitting this route. This doesn't make any sense.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's like, oh, yeah, Trey Young doesn't play for them anymore.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I completely forgot about that. Oops.
- 15:28Speaker 3: He should just show up anyway.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I know this, though.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Like a wrestling character.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I know this. I saw Stephen A. Smith say this.
- 15:35Speaker 2: And he's right. Ain't about no analysis. Ain't about nothing else.
- 15:39Speaker 2: This is very simple what I got for you right now.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Knicks better not lose to the Hawks, brother.
- 15:45Speaker 5: No.
- 15:46Speaker 3: No, you can't, especially, you know, they will run cat
- 15:51Speaker 3: out of town.
- 15:52Speaker 2: They will run cat out of town. And look, I
- 15:53Speaker 2: was talking about Brown and Browner, but they'll treat Mike
- 15:55Speaker 2: Brown like the brownest of them all. They'll be, nah,
- 16:00Speaker 2: but nah, they expect to go to the NBA finals.
- 16:02Speaker 2: They fired the dude that went to the conference finals.
- 16:04Speaker 2: The expectation is they're going to the NBA finals. Losing
- 16:07Speaker 2: to the Hawks. Like you might be able to get
- 16:09Speaker 2: to the second round and something happens and people let
- 16:11Speaker 2: it slide. Losing to the Hawks.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Can't be that.
- 16:14Speaker 1: No, sir.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Um, Philadelphia 76ers, they're going to be out of here
- 16:17Speaker 2: real soon, as are the Phoenix Suns. Now, again, play-in situation, right?
- 16:25Speaker 2: Maybe that's just what it was. The Sixers have a
- 16:29Speaker 2: lot of guys whom I have heard of. It feels
- 16:34Speaker 2: like they should be better.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I mean, Paul George missed a good chunk of the
- 16:39Speaker 3: season due to that bizarre suspension, and you'd think he'd
- 16:43Speaker 3: be rested, but he just looks.
- 16:44Speaker 2: He was on the steroids that he took for his
- 16:46Speaker 2: mental health. Yeah. I don't think I'm allowed to laugh
- 16:50Speaker 2: because he said, but he had the Lexapro make them
- 16:55Speaker 2: steroids now. Is that what that stuff called? Lexapro?
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Okay. Well, apparently he got the Anabolicon. Look, man, I
- 17:05Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know, but the Celtics look good.
- 17:07Speaker 2: The Thunder look good. The playoffs are here. I am excited. Um,
- 17:11Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie, though. We're recording this before
- 17:15Speaker 2: San Antonio plays Portland and before Detroit plays Orlando. There
- 17:21Speaker 2: are two reasons. You don't care about Detroit and Orlando.
- 17:26Speaker 2: And we saw enough from these other play in matchups
- 17:29Speaker 2: that I am reserving the right to go to sleep
- 17:33Speaker 2: whenever I damn well please tonight. OK, it's a long season.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I got to rest up. All right, Ryan, so I
- 17:47Speaker 2: was in South America, minding my own business, casually tapping in,
- 17:53Speaker 2: kind of seeing what's going on. You know what I mean? Like,
- 17:56Speaker 2: I enjoy what I do. I don't feel the need
- 17:59Speaker 2: to be like, I'm not going to pay attention to
- 18:00Speaker 2: any sports. That's ridiculous. I don't want to do that.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Me and the homie Vinny, we was made a run.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I think we went to like Playa del Carmen, right?
- 18:09Speaker 2: You know, see what's cracking out there. And it was
- 18:11Speaker 2: when Imei got fired by the Celtics.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I'm sure that was a fun night.
- 18:15Speaker 2: No, we were just, it was the whole day. We
- 18:17Speaker 2: are just all, each of us, you hit up who
- 18:19Speaker 2: you know, I'm going to hit up who I know.
- 18:21Speaker 2: We're just on our phones. It is like, this is like, otherwise,
- 18:25Speaker 2: you can't go to Beat Writer. Beat Writers are always
- 18:27Speaker 2: on the beat, right? Right. So I'm like, nah, man,
- 18:29Speaker 2: put your phone down. No, not for that one.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Not for that one. Because we forget how scandalous that
- 18:35Speaker 3: was and how out of nowhere that was. And it
- 18:36Speaker 3: was just... rumor and innuendo and uh that that's the
- 18:40Speaker 3: best time.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yes like that was a phenomenal time but i say
- 18:45Speaker 2: all that to say when i'm on vacation i'll pop
- 18:48Speaker 2: in a little bit right like even ryan was like
- 18:50Speaker 2: you know i know you're on vacation i'm like i
- 18:53Speaker 2: probably won't mind what you have to talk about right
- 18:55Speaker 2: you know what i mean like okay we'll do that
- 18:57Speaker 2: so a story popped up while i was gone i
- 19:00Speaker 2: felt like it was still going strong through friday ryan
- 19:02Speaker 2: am i wrong about yes okay And it's the AZ
- 19:06Speaker 2: Fudd situation in Dallas. Now, I've discussed before, and I
- 19:12Speaker 2: understand if you are a WNBA fan and you wish
- 19:16Speaker 2: that we would talk about the basketball more and not
- 19:19Speaker 2: all this other stuff that comes around it. I understand
- 19:22Speaker 2: why you feel that way. But again... People don't seem
- 19:27Speaker 2: to enjoy when I try to talk about the basketball
- 19:29Speaker 2: and it makes it less fun for me in reverse.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I saw somebody say they're like, oh, you blame it
- 19:33Speaker 2: on haters. I'm not blaming it on haters. I'm just
- 19:36Speaker 2: saying we ain't got a chemistry about those things.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But larger macro issues. Wheelhouse, baby. That is what I do.
- 19:45Speaker 2: And that situation, I think, is so interesting and so amazing.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Amazing is maybe going too far. It just felt right
- 19:54Speaker 2: when I said that. I do think it's very interesting, right?
- 19:57Speaker 2: And I think it is a reflection of of something,
- 20:00Speaker 2: and Ryan, you know me, I love talking about this,
- 20:02Speaker 2: about how the internet has broken our brains, right? And
- 20:04Speaker 2: the internet has turned just about everything into something for
- 20:08Speaker 2: people to fight about and everything to get tribal about
- 20:11Speaker 2: and everything else. And the WNBA is so online to
- 20:17Speaker 2: its own detriment, I would make the argument, right? And
- 20:21Speaker 2: it's online in a very particular way that feels very familiar,
- 20:27Speaker 2: like five to 10 years ago, Like it's, it's, it's
- 20:31Speaker 2: a league in search of a safe space, which I'm
- 20:34Speaker 2: not saying as an insult, right? I'm not saying that
- 20:36Speaker 2: to be dismissive. It is understandable, right? Like it's a,
- 20:40Speaker 2: it is a league full of people who are members
- 20:44Speaker 2: of a, a marginalized group, then further marginalization below that.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And it's often very, very young people that are involved
- 20:54Speaker 2: in this league and, On the internet, at least, I
- 20:58Speaker 2: find that women older than those women have a tendency
- 21:01Speaker 2: to be very protective when they see up-and-coming women in
- 21:05Speaker 2: their late teens and early 20s that they like, that
- 21:08Speaker 2: they want to protect them from the big bad world,
- 21:11Speaker 2: or if nothing else, protect them from a lot of
- 21:14Speaker 2: the things that they went through coming up, right? All
- 21:16Speaker 2: of that. But it makes a very interesting stew of
- 21:21Speaker 2: when something crosses over that involves a certain measure of
- 21:25Speaker 2: controversy and the discussion can truly become maddening at points,
- 21:29Speaker 2: at least for me, because the conversations deviate from most
- 21:36Speaker 2: of the established paradigms that I understand in terms of
- 21:38Speaker 2: how we talk about and how we cover sports. Now,
- 21:41Speaker 2: this is something that I've talked about in the past,
- 21:42Speaker 2: which is the reason that it can feel that way
- 21:44Speaker 2: with the WNBA, because these paradigms are built around the
- 21:49Speaker 2: idea that sports, are played by men with implicit in men,
- 21:57Speaker 2: straight men, right? Like everything, so much of what we do,
- 22:02Speaker 2: what is okay, how we go about things is based
- 22:05Speaker 2: on that, right? Men part first, the straight men part
- 22:07Speaker 2: is implicit, but as important as we'll get into here.
- 22:10Speaker 2: But for example, watching women's basketball game, And see if
- 22:19Speaker 2: you ever hear anything involving the word big. It's impolite
- 22:26Speaker 2: to say a woman is big. So we don't say big.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I've seen or heard the phrase good size.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Right?
- 22:33Speaker 2: But what's the woman's name that played for Iowa State
- 22:36Speaker 2: and just transferred? Audie Crooks.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Audie Crooks, yeah.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Imagine the nicknames that we would have for her.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Right?
- 22:44Speaker 2: If she were a man. And I know this because
- 22:47Speaker 2: I can think of some of them. You're probably too
- 22:49Speaker 2: young to remember the meat hook.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Right? That's before my time.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't remember the meat hook. But Glenn Davis
- 22:55Speaker 2: was like a more athletic version of the meat hook.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Right?
- 22:58Speaker 2: But all those guys, Khalid El-Amin, the way we used
- 23:01Speaker 2: to joke about him and everything else, we joke about
- 23:03Speaker 2: fat basketball players. We love fat basketball players. Right? There's
- 23:06Speaker 2: a whole, like, we kind of have eradicated them from
- 23:08Speaker 2: the game now. But, you know.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I mean, Jokic and Luka have their moments.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:13Speaker 2: But they ain't no Stanley Roberts. They ain't no Glenn Davis.
- 23:16Speaker 2: It ain't the meat hook. Like those guys are t-shirt fat.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 23:21Speaker 3: Or shack on, you know, certain basketball teams that need
- 23:24Speaker 3: them to do this career.
- 23:24Speaker 2: But we don't talk about women that way, right? It's,
- 23:29Speaker 2: it is, the paradigm is different, but the paradigm seems
- 23:32Speaker 2: that it has not like been fully established. Like, I
- 23:34Speaker 2: wonder if we need to have meetings, right? And what
- 23:36Speaker 2: I mean by meeting is, Ryan, you and I both
- 23:39Speaker 2: have a tendency to read doom and gloom books about technology, right? Yes.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I read a different one. Did I tell you about
- 23:44Speaker 2: this one? It's called, this is for everyone.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I have not read that one, no.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So it is a book by the literal inventor of
- 23:50Speaker 2: the World Wide Whip. which is a fascinating idea to
- 23:53Speaker 2: consider that somebody could invent the World Wide Web. But
- 23:57Speaker 2: he did, right? But one thing that was interesting in
- 24:00Speaker 2: reading that book they talked about was that so much
- 24:03Speaker 2: of what the internet is, like HTTP as a protocol,
- 24:06Speaker 2: HTTPS as secure, the use of HTML language and everything,
- 24:12Speaker 2: all of these things were determined in conferences. It started
- 24:15Speaker 2: small enough that they would all get together and be like, okay,
- 24:17Speaker 2: so this is how we're going to write for the internet.
- 24:19Speaker 2: This is how we're going to code for the internet.
- 24:21Speaker 2: These are the protocols that we're going to use, so
- 24:23Speaker 2: forth and so on. And it all built up to
- 24:25Speaker 2: where all these things are established in the internet through
- 24:28Speaker 2: all these changes. It still builds upon what was there, right?
- 24:31Speaker 2: I feel like we need to get together and have
- 24:32Speaker 2: a conference about this in terms of how we talk
- 24:34Speaker 2: about women's basketball or something, because it seems like something happens.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And as a media, in some total, we are wildly
- 24:41Speaker 2: unprepared for what to do, even though something might happen
- 24:45Speaker 2: that we know happens. Like two players dating. This happens
- 24:52Speaker 2: in this world, right? And it's interesting for me because
- 24:55Speaker 2: I used to date a basketball player and she told
- 24:59Speaker 2: me that the one rule of teams, and I'm going
- 25:02Speaker 2: to sanitize this for the audience a little bit, is
- 25:04Speaker 2: don't sleep with your teammates. Apparently that rule is not
- 25:09Speaker 2: as ironclad as she had me to believe. So I
- 25:13Speaker 2: realize I've gone a long way around this. Here's what happened.
- 25:16Speaker 2: For those of you who don't know, AZ Fudd played
- 25:18Speaker 2: at UConn. She was the National Player of the Year
- 25:22Speaker 2: this year. Paige Beckers played at UConn last year. She
- 25:26Speaker 2: was the National Player.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Well, no.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Kate Clark was the National Player of the Year. No,
- 25:29Speaker 2: she was not. She was really good. She was really
- 25:32Speaker 2: good at UConn, yes.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Say again?
- 25:34Speaker 3: She was really good at UConn.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 2: There we go. Look at me, showing all that knowledge. Anyway,
- 25:41Speaker 2: Paige plays for the Dallas Wings. She was the number
- 25:43Speaker 2: one overall pick. They got the number one overall pick
- 25:46Speaker 2: again this year. They drafted AZ Fudd. The thing is,
- 25:49Speaker 2: Those two dated or I'm saying dated in the past
- 25:52Speaker 2: tense because I know that in the past they had dated.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I have no idea whether they date right now. OK,
- 25:59Speaker 2: but they have dated. Right.
- 26:02Speaker 3: That is on the record by their by their own words.
- 26:06Speaker 2: It's on the record by their own words. It's on
- 26:07Speaker 2: the record by the time I saw a picture of
- 26:09Speaker 2: AZ Foot at a basketball game with a phone case
- 26:11Speaker 2: that said on the back, Paige Becker's girlfriend. I have
- 26:15Speaker 2: seen video of them on Instagram with the how well
- 26:19Speaker 2: do you know your basketball playing girlfriend, spouse, whatever it is.
- 26:24Speaker 2: And Paige Becker's just running through all the things. It's
- 26:27Speaker 2: not a secret.
- 26:27Speaker 3: It was not a secret. Yeah, I've seen people.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Talk about this as though it was some kind of rumor.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And I'm like, it can't be because I know. Like
- 26:34Speaker 2: it got all the way here. This is a thing
- 26:37Speaker 2: that people know what people are aware of. And so
- 26:39Speaker 2: after Fuddy got drafted there, I saw that there was
- 26:43Speaker 2: discussion about, so like, are we going to talk about
- 26:46Speaker 2: the thing here? And the thing is you got a
- 26:50Speaker 2: franchise player and it looks like you just drafted a girlfriend. That's,
- 26:57Speaker 2: A thing.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Okay? Now, what kind of thing you can say in
- 27:01Speaker 2: your head right now, whatever it is, but the bottom
- 27:03Speaker 2: line is, that is a thing. Now, let's fast forward
- 27:08Speaker 2: to the introductory press conference that she has when she
- 27:12Speaker 2: gets to Dallas. And I imagine, Ryan, that was a
- 27:15Speaker 2: room full of people saying the following. You gonna ask?
- 27:20Speaker 2: Which one of you?
- 27:21Speaker 1: Me?
- 27:21Speaker 3: You?
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Not a lot of elbowing. You got it, dawg. You know,
- 27:25Speaker 2: I was always admired you for your courage.
- 27:28Speaker 5: Okay.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Then a gentleman asked the question. I thought he asked
- 27:33Speaker 2: it very professionally.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Right.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Like he brought it up. Like you said on Tik TOK, Yes.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:38Speaker 3: It was a way of introducing the question. Like, like
- 27:41Speaker 3: not like he was inferring or making an assumption.
- 27:44Speaker 1: No, no.
- 27:44Speaker 2: He asked. Yeah. I mean, I don't remember exactly what
- 27:48Speaker 2: the phrasing was, but the elephant in the room was
- 27:50Speaker 2: addressed by the question and the Dallas wings PR team
- 27:53Speaker 2: jumped on that grenade. Right.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 27:56Speaker 2: They're like, Hey, Hey, Hey, no, we're not going to
- 27:58Speaker 2: have any questions about that. And obviously there was a
- 28:01Speaker 2: lot of discussion about how the PR team actually made
- 28:03Speaker 2: it worse for because they made it more of a
- 28:05Speaker 2: story by doing that. I will just throw this out there,
- 28:10Speaker 2: and I do not know anything. I want to be
- 28:14Speaker 2: very clear about this. However, there are reasons why I
- 28:20Speaker 2: could see why the PR team would decide to do that.
- 28:24Speaker 2: And it would be a reminder, we don't know the
- 28:28Speaker 2: particulars of what that relationship is, and maybe that person does,
- 28:32Speaker 2: and there's a reason why they jumped in. I don't know. However,
- 28:39Speaker 2: I fully push back on the idea that this is
- 28:43Speaker 2: none of our business.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 28:47Speaker 2: And you know why it's our business? Because y'all told us.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I didn't ask about any of this stuff. I know
- 28:55Speaker 2: this because they told us. I think that's fair to say, right?
- 29:02Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Speaking of being extremely online.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Let me tell you a story. A friend of our show,
- 29:08Speaker 2: I don't know if he'll even hear this, but a
- 29:10Speaker 2: friend of our show had a situation once where he
- 29:12Speaker 2: was married and his wife's brother came to stay with
- 29:16Speaker 2: them and overstayed his welcome. But he wouldn't leave. And
- 29:24Speaker 2: my man could not kick him out. And he goes
- 29:27Speaker 2: and asks questions about it. He eventually had to get
- 29:32Speaker 2: the sheriff to give him some paperwork. Basically, he had
- 29:35Speaker 2: to go to eviction court to evict the person from
- 29:40Speaker 2: the house.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Right?
- 29:43Speaker 2: I say that to say, once you let somebody into
- 29:48Speaker 2: your house, you can't just tell them to leave.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I mean, you can, but they don't have to leave.
- 29:57Speaker 2: You're the one that invited them in. Once you've invited
- 30:00Speaker 2: them in, they got a seat at the table. That's
- 30:03Speaker 2: how it works. And your business is the exact same way.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Once you let people in, it's very difficult to then
- 30:13Speaker 2: go to the, hey, it's none of your business. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 30:18Speaker 2: You told me we could come in here. I didn't
- 30:20Speaker 2: even want to. I was on the way to go
- 30:22Speaker 2: do something else, but you was like, no, no, no,
- 30:23Speaker 2: come on in here and get a slice of cake.
- 30:25Speaker 2: I didn't even ask to get in there. But functionally speaking,
- 30:29Speaker 2: That's how it works. Once you make a decision that
- 30:32Speaker 2: your relationship is going to be public, your relationship is public.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I can understand why you might not want to talk
- 30:38Speaker 2: about it, but that's how it works. Now, let's add
- 30:43Speaker 2: it to this. You tell me if I'm wrong here, Ryan.
- 30:46Speaker 2: If A.Z. Fudd had moved to Dallas and was dating
- 30:49Speaker 2: Dak Prescott, there would be a question at the press
- 30:52Speaker 2: conference about it.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Of course.
- 30:53Speaker 2: And that would have nothing to do with basketball. Okay?
- 30:57Speaker 2: If She showed up and she was dating Big X
- 31:02Speaker 2: the plug.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Would get brought up.
- 31:07Speaker 2: You know, your boyfriend lives in Dallas too. You know,
- 31:09Speaker 2: what's that going to be? And look, she would have
- 31:12Speaker 2: the option of being like, yeah, I don't really want
- 31:13Speaker 2: to talk about that right now. But okay, cool. But
- 31:15Speaker 2: that question is going to come up. But you think
- 31:18Speaker 2: that you're dating somebody on the team? And that's not
- 31:22Speaker 2: a question? That actually has something to do with basketball.
- 31:28Speaker 2: And you think like people think that's not a question
- 31:31Speaker 2: to ask. I don't think that's it. That's not invasive
- 31:34Speaker 2: at that point. And by the way, it's endlessly fascinating
- 31:39Speaker 2: for those of us who don't exist in the world
- 31:43Speaker 2: of women's basketball. This don't happen over in our other world.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Of course.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Right.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Like maybe it does happen and we just don't know. Right. Ryan,
- 31:52Speaker 2: you ever heard of the culture club?
- 31:53Speaker 1: I have.
- 31:55Speaker 2: You know the situation they had going on over there?
- 31:57Speaker 3: I am unfamiliar.
- 31:58Speaker 2: All right, so you're familiar with Boy George. Yes. He
- 32:02Speaker 2: was in a relationship with the guitar player who was
- 32:06Speaker 2: very not out. And it was a thing. It would
- 32:10Speaker 2: cause them a lot of trouble or whatever it is.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I say that to say maybe that's happening on one
- 32:14Speaker 2: of these NBA teams that ain't nobody ever told us, right? Right.
- 32:17Speaker 2: but we don't, we don't have this.
- 32:19Speaker 3: It would be a story if it did.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 2: This is new to us. We don't have this happen
- 32:22Speaker 2: in the world of men's sports. So this coming up, no,
- 32:25Speaker 2: this is interesting. This is a question to ask. How
- 32:28Speaker 2: do you balance that? How do you manage such a thing?
- 32:31Speaker 1: Right?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Like I've seen things in women's games where you'll see
- 32:34Speaker 2: two women who are in a relationship who play on
- 32:36Speaker 2: different teams and one of them break up a fight
- 32:39Speaker 2: involving the other and be like, all right, we'll talk
- 32:41Speaker 2: about this later or whatever. Like, This league is a
- 32:44Speaker 2: different kind of league. And I get that. But we
- 32:46Speaker 2: don't have any rules for how it is that we
- 32:49Speaker 2: talk about it or any understanding of what it is
- 32:52Speaker 2: that we do. But you date your teammate. That's you
- 32:56Speaker 2: know why that's a question. It's a basketball question. I
- 33:00Speaker 2: just saw something about a couple who, again, the perils
- 33:03Speaker 2: of being public in your relationship. They had to put
- 33:05Speaker 2: out a statement and a video because they broke up.
- 33:08Speaker 2: And by the way, they're not going to do any
- 33:09Speaker 2: podcast together no more. Because that's what happens when you
- 33:13Speaker 2: break up with somebody, right? Like there's nothing crazy about that.
- 33:18Speaker 2: That all makes sense, right? That's what happens when you
- 33:20Speaker 2: break up. So what happens when you break up and
- 33:23Speaker 2: you're on the same team? These are legitimate, real live questions.
- 33:28Speaker 2: By the way, I would hate to be the coach.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Like these are these are actual things that come up.
- 33:34Speaker 2: And I was so surprised to see a number of
- 33:36Speaker 2: people act as though this is not something worthy of discussion. Now,
- 33:40Speaker 2: I want to be clear. I thought the majority of
- 33:42Speaker 2: people involved in this did think that this was a
- 33:44Speaker 2: question to be asked. Right. It is one that requires
- 33:48Speaker 2: a certain level of finesse, one that I would have
- 33:50Speaker 2: been terrified to ask because I don't know if I
- 33:52Speaker 2: would have enough finesse to have gotten it right. But
- 33:58Speaker 2: not everything has to be a tribal fight. And not everything,
- 34:04Speaker 2: there was no need to protect that grown woman in
- 34:07Speaker 2: that time. She was 23 years old, right? I feel
- 34:11Speaker 2: like she was probably ready to deal with that question.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Had to be in some form or fashion. If not,
- 34:17Speaker 2: that's her fault. But this is a grown-up world. This
- 34:22Speaker 2: is at least my understanding of how things work in
- 34:26Speaker 2: this world, okay? That's how it goes. Is it not
- 34:31Speaker 2: how it works over there? I don't know. I don't
- 34:33Speaker 2: traffic in that nearly enough. But I say this from
- 34:41Speaker 2: the standpoint of somebody who like works in media and
- 34:43Speaker 2: sees how these things go. You can't tell people they can't.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Even if it's just a softball question. It's not like
- 34:50Speaker 2: people are necessarily going to need to update every week.
- 34:54Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, it's not like, oh,
- 34:55Speaker 2: so how you guys doing? Hey, I saw you guys
- 34:57Speaker 2: weren't passing the ball to each other. What's that all about?
- 35:01Speaker 2: I don't think it necessarily has to be that. Or
- 35:02Speaker 2: how about this? You guys played together at UConn, where
- 35:06Speaker 2: I think you might have been dating. You know, what
- 35:10Speaker 2: is that?
- 35:12Speaker 3: How's your relationship changing now that you're on the same
- 35:14Speaker 3: team in the pros?
- 35:15Speaker 1: Yes.
- 35:16Speaker 2: And by the way, don't you tell me for a
- 35:18Speaker 2: second the public doesn't want to know. And that's a
- 35:21Speaker 2: big part of the job of the reporters is to
- 35:23Speaker 2: ask these things. But I don't know. I just thought
- 35:25Speaker 2: that these were all real questions that I thought it was.
- 35:28Speaker 2: I thought it was all fair game for people who
- 35:31Speaker 2: behave professionally about it. And I thought ultimately it was
- 35:34Speaker 2: handled professionally. But it just came to be another example
- 35:39Speaker 2: of how as a media in a larger way, we
- 35:42Speaker 2: are not prepared to deal with this league. And number two,
- 35:46Speaker 2: I think this is something I've talked about before and
- 35:48Speaker 2: we got to figure out how to deal with this part.
- 35:50Speaker 2: How many people who cover this league do not treat
- 35:52Speaker 2: it like a league or a business, but rather treat
- 35:54Speaker 2: it like a cause? Because it's not.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Right?
- 36:02Speaker 2: At least in the way that I understand that we
- 36:06Speaker 2: deal with these things. This is sports. If we are
- 36:09Speaker 2: going to treat it as a cause, that is fine,
- 36:12Speaker 2: but I'm just here to let you know, people don't
- 36:15Speaker 2: get paid that much money to work for causes. You
- 36:17Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, I don't mean as much
- 36:20Speaker 2: as I mean, just saying just generally, that's not, that's
- 36:22Speaker 2: not how I understand sports to work. And if sports
- 36:25Speaker 2: over there is going to work completely differently. And I
- 36:29Speaker 2: think there's room for media coverage to be a little
- 36:31Speaker 2: bit more humane. I think that's fair, but I also
- 36:34Speaker 2: think we get a bad rap. I don't think we're
- 36:35Speaker 2: nearly as terrible, especially in sports to the people that
- 36:37Speaker 2: we cover as advertised because they have all the leverage. Now,
- 36:41Speaker 2: you know, the people, the people who are bad to
- 36:43Speaker 2: the people, the, the, the media members who are bad
- 36:46Speaker 2: to the players are, are the people farthest removed from
- 36:49Speaker 2: the play. And I say that as somebody who is
- 36:51Speaker 2: pretty decently removed from the players in the work that
- 36:54Speaker 2: I do. But the ones that you got to watch
- 36:56Speaker 2: out for are not the ones that are showing up
- 36:57Speaker 2: to a press conference. That man took that for everybody.
- 37:01Speaker 3: It's people who are coming in over the top of
- 37:03Speaker 3: the internet to win stupid tribal war points.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 37:07Speaker 2: But like that guy right there, he did that for
- 37:09Speaker 2: the squad. He need to be the beat writer of
- 37:11Speaker 2: the year for whatever award they give for that. He
- 37:15Speaker 2: did that for everybody. As for me, I'm just ready
- 37:21Speaker 2: for my mentions to set on fire. You can predict

- 40:37Speaker 2: No need for the social media feeds.
- 40:39Speaker 3: We got you.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Now, If you haven't heard.
- 40:43Speaker 3: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, big news in
- 40:45Speaker 3: the NFL draft. The Bengals traded the 10th overall pick
- 40:48Speaker 3: to the Giants in exchange for defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
- 40:51Speaker 3: They gave him a one-year, $ 28 million extension. Bo, what
- 40:56Speaker 3: was your biggest reaction to this news?
- 40:58Speaker 2: That this was clearly only kind of, sort of about money.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And Dexter Lawrence hated playing for the Giants so much
- 41:06Speaker 2: that he went to the Bengals. Look, a one-year $ 28
- 41:10Speaker 2: million extension on this? Now, okay, so for those who
- 41:13Speaker 2: don't know, the thing is that Lawrence had three years
- 41:15Speaker 2: left on his contract, and he wanted an extension because
- 41:18Speaker 2: the market blew up since he had done that, and
- 41:21Speaker 2: he is absolutely their best player, right? Period. So the
- 41:26Speaker 2: Giants did not want to renegotiate. But what I thought
- 41:28Speaker 2: was interesting about this was they tried to pull it together.
- 41:31Speaker 2: They tried to get the general manager out of it
- 41:33Speaker 2: because apparently Lawrence does not like the general manager. They
- 41:35Speaker 2: tried to get him out of it. They want to
- 41:36Speaker 2: call Harbaugh in. And he was like, no, I don't
- 41:39Speaker 2: want to talk to him like he was afraid the
- 41:41Speaker 2: Harbaugh might talk him into state. He had just decided
- 41:44Speaker 2: he's going to be out of here. And this is
- 41:45Speaker 2: the first time in the history of the NFL. that
- 41:49Speaker 2: anybody has said to himself, I can't get the money
- 41:52Speaker 2: that I want here, but I bet I can from
- 41:54Speaker 2: the Bengals. No one has ever said that. Ever. And
- 42:00Speaker 2: by the way, did not get that much money from
- 42:03Speaker 2: the Bengals.
- 42:04Speaker 3: No, just the one year extension.
- 42:05Speaker 2: But also one year at 28. And so 28, I
- 42:09Speaker 2: was talking to somebody in the business about this, and
- 42:11Speaker 2: they're like, 28 is low for his 2024 performance. But
- 42:14Speaker 2: for his 2025 performance, perhaps 28 is right in line.
- 42:18Speaker 2: But that just tells me that this was not strictly
- 42:21Speaker 2: about the money. What it also tells us now is
- 42:24Speaker 2: that the Giants and the Jets combined have 25% of
- 42:27Speaker 2: the first 16 picks in the draft. Each of them
- 42:30Speaker 2: has two in the first 16. And, buddy, we get
- 42:33Speaker 2: to see how they fold chances to fuck it up.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Cannot wait and also not only do people go to
- 42:42Speaker 3: Cincinnati to get paid People saying, I need to go
- 42:46Speaker 3: to Cincinnati to be under better management.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Yes!
- 42:49Speaker 2: Like, this is the Giants, man. You and I have
- 42:52Speaker 2: been here about the same amount of time.
- 42:54Speaker 3: I think we got here 2017. Yes, yes. So we
- 42:57Speaker 3: got here exactly the same time.
- 43:00Speaker 2: That's right, because people don't know. Ryan worked on First
- 43:02Speaker 2: Things First with Nick for a while. Me and Nick
- 43:04Speaker 2: got here the same week.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Like, we literally got here the same week. We've seen
- 43:09Speaker 2: one good football team between two franchises in nine years.
- 43:15Speaker 3: It seems, I mean, keeping Joe Shane around, I don't
- 43:22Speaker 3: think that Giants situation is getting better anytime soon.
- 43:24Speaker 2: The Giants, they love some ochre, boy. They love Eli's
- 43:28Speaker 2: ochre ass. They kept Daniel Jones' ochre ass around as
- 43:33Speaker 2: long as they possibly could, but they get a hold
- 43:36Speaker 2: of some ochre, and they 100% do not let go.
- 43:39Speaker 3: I mean, imagine if they tried to trade five and
- 43:42Speaker 3: ten for one to get Mendoza. Talk about someone who
- 43:47Speaker 3: would fit in great with how the quarterbacks they kind
- 43:50Speaker 3: of like.
- 43:50Speaker 2: And you remember like there was a run for a
- 43:53Speaker 2: while during the draft where they would always talk about
- 43:56Speaker 2: all the hardships and tragedies that all the players had
- 43:58Speaker 2: gone through. It had gone just a little bit too far.
- 44:01Speaker 2: You think they could do that with the Giants except
- 44:02Speaker 2: they'd be taught by Steve Tisch? You remember him? He
- 44:08Speaker 2: was the dude that was in the Epstein files where
- 44:13Speaker 2: the girls were complaining because he was looking for love.
- 44:17Speaker 2: And they was just trying to get in a movie.
- 44:22Speaker 2: They was just like, I thought I could kick it
- 44:24Speaker 2: with him, maybe kick it to him, and then I
- 44:27Speaker 2: would get in movie. And they're like, no, he's trying
- 44:30Speaker 2: to go on dates and ask him how they feel.
- 44:32Speaker 2: And they're like, what are you talking about? Anyway, let's
- 44:35Speaker 2: talk about that during the draft.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Speaking of dysfunction at MetLife, FIFA and New Jersey Transit
- 44:43Speaker 3: are having a bit of an impasse. Right now, World
- 44:46Speaker 3: Cup train tickets coming back from games at MetLife confirmed
- 44:50Speaker 3: to be One hundred and fifty dollars. If you want
- 44:53Speaker 3: the cheaper option, you can take the alternative bus priced
- 44:56Speaker 3: at eighty dollars per seat. But what was your reaction
- 44:59Speaker 3: to this news?
- 45:01Speaker 2: So when I got back, I was at the airport
- 45:04Speaker 2: on Saturday and I was reading the sign. I was
- 45:06Speaker 2: reading in Spanish because I like to practice. I don't
- 45:10Speaker 2: know the right word. Right. But what is the politically
- 45:16Speaker 2: correct term for an unlicensed taxi? I don't know what
- 45:24Speaker 2: the word is that we could use now, but something
- 45:28Speaker 2: tells me they're going to be out there deep. Yeah. Deep.
- 45:34Speaker 2: This is unlicensed. The World Cup? Because, I mean, I've
- 45:40Speaker 2: gotten got by the unlicensed.
- 45:41Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Probably around the same time I moved here.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Man, I got to the airport one day and this
- 45:47Speaker 2: smoking hot woman walked up on me and was like,
- 45:50Speaker 2: do you need a ride?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I need a ride.
- 45:52Speaker 2: I need a ride with you. But I forget what
- 45:55Speaker 2: usury rates she charged me for that ride. But. The idea,
- 46:01Speaker 2: New Jersey Transit is making the argument that they have
- 46:03Speaker 2: not gotten any money to account for everything that's going
- 46:05Speaker 2: to happen, so they need to make the money back
- 46:07Speaker 2: off a $ 180 train ride. $ 150 train rides, yeah. Sorry, $ 150.
- 46:11Speaker 2: But still.
- 46:12Speaker 3: And how much was it, $ 80 for the bus?
- 46:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:13Speaker 2: In New Jersey?
- 46:14Speaker 4: No!
- 46:14Speaker 2: No! No, and I saw something where people were like,
- 46:27Speaker 2: I saw a lot of people were like giving the hacks,
- 46:29Speaker 2: like if you, you know, well, if you go here
- 46:31Speaker 2: and catch this bus, you can pay to A, man.
- 46:34Speaker 2: If you ain't from here, if you really come to it,
- 46:36Speaker 2: I do recommend you pay to 180. The locals, y'all
- 46:40Speaker 2: can play these other, you got here playing these reindeer games,
- 46:43Speaker 2: but you out here fucking around, just trying to navigate
- 46:48Speaker 2: New Jersey transit. Yeah, good luck.
- 46:52Speaker 3: And finally, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame revealed
- 46:54Speaker 3: its 2026 class. Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis City,
- 46:59Speaker 3: Luther Vandross, and the Wu-Tang Clan all make up the
- 47:03Speaker 3: 2026 class. Bo, what was your reaction to this group?
- 47:06Speaker 2: I have to give you my hot take in looking
- 47:09Speaker 2: at that full range of people that were on that list.
- 47:16Speaker 2: I kind of understand Gene Simmons' point. I know that
- 47:20Speaker 2: this makes people very upset. The Gene Simmons thing is,
- 47:24Speaker 2: this is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It
- 47:26Speaker 2: should be for rock and roll artists. I think that
- 47:30Speaker 2: rock and roll is used more as a branding term.
- 47:34Speaker 2: It is to speak a little bit more about an
- 47:36Speaker 2: ethos or a generation than it is about the specific
- 47:38Speaker 2: sort of music. But I can totally understand how somebody
- 47:41Speaker 2: could look at this list of people and be like,
- 47:43Speaker 2: so tell me what the fuck they have in common.
- 47:47Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, I see why somebody
- 47:51Speaker 2: would have that point. The thing that struck me, though,
- 47:54Speaker 2: from looking at this is they're running out of people.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Okay? And I say that you just got around to
- 48:02Speaker 2: Luther Vance.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Or just got around to Phil Collins.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Yeah, if you were ever going to put them in,
- 48:07Speaker 2: you just got around to it. Phil seems to be
- 48:10Speaker 2: a polarizing figure. Like, white people don't like Phil nearly
- 48:12Speaker 2: as much as me and my people, it seems. Even
- 48:14Speaker 2: though Phil sold a gazillion Interesting. And has an incredible catalog.
- 48:19Speaker 2: But like David Bowie disavows himself of let disavowed himself
- 48:23Speaker 2: of less dance toward the end. And he would say, quote,
- 48:25Speaker 2: I was in my Phil Collins phase, unquote, as though
- 48:27Speaker 2: that's an insult.
- 48:29Speaker 3: I did not realize there were this kind of vitriol
- 48:32Speaker 3: from my own about.
- 48:33Speaker 2: There's a little too cool for school. I love him.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 48:36Speaker 2: There's a little too cool for school element when it
- 48:39Speaker 2: comes to Phil. Billy Idol ain't no business in nobody's
- 48:41Speaker 2: Hall of Fame. He's just a dude that made some
- 48:43Speaker 2: cool songs. Right.
- 48:44Speaker 1: At a point.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Joy Division got a song I know. Oasis, I get it, generationally. Sade, again,
- 48:52Speaker 2: you just got around to it. Her first album came
- 48:55Speaker 2: out 41 years ago. By the way, white people love Sade.
- 49:00Speaker 2: If you ever get a chance, look up how many
- 49:02Speaker 2: records Sade sold, album after album after album. They sold
- 49:07Speaker 2: double platinum every single time out. They are so rich
- 49:11Speaker 2: just off selling records. But you just got around to that?
- 49:15Speaker 2: Like we're just here. They're running out of people, guys.
- 49:19Speaker 2: they're running out of people.
- 49:23Speaker 3: All right bo a lot of voicemails as we were
- 49:29Speaker 3: uh you were on vacation last week a bunch of
- 49:32Speaker 3: good ones here's our first.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Yo what's up bo This is Travis down here in
- 49:38Speaker 1: New Orleans. And I got a question for you. And
- 49:41Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you the story that made me
- 49:42Speaker 1: spot a question.
- 49:45Speaker 6: But the question is, what's the wildest thing you have
- 49:50Speaker 6: ever seen up.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Close or on the sidelines of a football game?
- 49:56Speaker 6: Now, we was discussing this with a couple of friends
- 49:59Speaker 6: of mine.
- 49:59Speaker 1: I went to North Carolina.
- 50:01Speaker 5: A & T while.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I played ball.
- 50:03Speaker 6: And One of my teammates had said he was being
- 50:08Speaker 6: recruited at the time by North Carolina.
- 50:14Speaker 5: And he was on the sidelines of North Carolina as
- 50:19Speaker 5: Greg Jones, if you so violently remember.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Put his forearm into the chest of some young man
- 50:28Speaker 6: and completely decapitated him for everybody to see.
- 50:33Speaker 1: But he says, as that happened... Greg Jones.
- 50:36Speaker 5: At some point looked to the sideline and said, I'm
- 50:39Speaker 5: too big for this shit. He said at that point,
- 50:45Speaker 5: he looked around and thought to himself, you know what?
- 50:50Speaker 5: Maybe D1 ain't where I need to be.
- 50:55Speaker 1: He said later on he committed.
- 50:56Speaker 5: To North Carolina A & T where I had met him,
- 50:59Speaker 5: and he said he had not regretted his decision.
- 51:02Speaker 1: The other thing he said was, This was ACC football.
- 51:06Speaker 1: What was ACC football like?
- 51:09Speaker 6: And I can only imagine because the rules was a
- 51:13Speaker 6: little bit different around that time, too.
- 51:15Speaker 1: But, yeah, I just wanted to ask that question.
- 51:18Speaker 5: What's the wildest thing you've ever seen on the sidelines
- 51:22Speaker 5: of any sporting event?
- 51:23Speaker 1: All right.
- 51:27Speaker 2: First of all, Ryan, are you familiar with the Greg
- 51:29Speaker 2: Jones play?
- 51:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Okay. Here's what people need to understand. and he referred
- 51:33Speaker 2: to that other guy like he was just some guy.
- 51:36Speaker 2: The other dude's name was Dexter Reed. Dexter Reed was
- 51:40Speaker 2: an awesome college football player. Like, Dexter Reed was not
- 51:43Speaker 2: some bum. That play was a metaphor for that whole
- 51:46Speaker 2: year of Dexter Reed coming from the other side of
- 51:48Speaker 2: the field, trying to make a tackle that some bum
- 51:51Speaker 2: couldn't make, and then this is the price that he
- 51:54Speaker 2: paid for it. If you look, Dexter Reed jumped right
- 51:56Speaker 2: up and was shaking his head at him to say
- 51:58Speaker 2: there wasn't no back down in him because that's the
- 52:00Speaker 2: kind of dude Dexter Reed was. And that's who Greg
- 52:04Speaker 2: Jones did that to.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yes.
- 52:05Speaker 2: It's all we're saying, right? You don't want no problems
- 52:08Speaker 2: with Dexter Reed. Just to be abundantly clear, D. Reed,
- 52:12Speaker 2: I'd never met D. Reed myself, but that was my
- 52:14Speaker 2: first year at Carolina. That was the first football game
- 52:17Speaker 2: Carolina had after I had shown up on campus. It
- 52:20Speaker 2: was also the first game of the new Jumbotron. And
- 52:23Speaker 2: so they ran it over and over again.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Rack it back.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Rack it back. It was so... I'm telling you, dude.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Dee Reeves was no joke. I can't say that enough. Anyway, wow.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I keep getting stuck on that. I would say I
- 52:41Speaker 2: have two things that stick with me for being on sidelines. One...
- 52:44Speaker 2: I went on the sideline once for a Clark Morehouse game.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I want to say in 05, this is Division II football.
- 52:51Speaker 2: I don't think I'd been on the sidelines of a
- 52:53Speaker 2: college game at that point. I'm like 25. I was
- 52:54Speaker 2: standing behind Denzel Washington because the Sun was on the
- 52:56Speaker 2: team at the time. Hey, man, if that's what Division
- 53:01Speaker 2: II was hitting on, I was like, oh, no, there's
- 53:06Speaker 2: no way. My mama tells a story about my brother.
- 53:08Speaker 2: My brother's always been a fairly big fella, right? He
- 53:11Speaker 2: thought about playing football. And mama got him on the
- 53:14Speaker 2: sideline at Clark when she worked there when he was
- 53:17Speaker 2: growing up. Got him on the sideline to watch a game.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Said he watched the whole game. Said they were leaving
- 53:22Speaker 2: the game. Said he didn't say anything. I think they
- 53:25Speaker 2: got back to the car. Said mama looked at her
- 53:28Speaker 2: and said, you know what? I think I'm going to
- 53:31Speaker 2: just be in the band. But for me personally, 2008
- 53:38Speaker 2: at Kenan Stadium, the same place, Carolina played Virginia Tech.
- 53:46Speaker 2: And this was the second year of Butch Davis. That
- 53:48Speaker 2: was a really talented team. And this was like a
- 53:50Speaker 2: big game. And they played really well against Virginia Tech
- 53:52Speaker 2: until TJ Yates got hurt and they had to bring
- 53:54Speaker 2: in a backhoe quarterback named Mike Paulus. Mike Paulus was
- 53:57Speaker 2: a heavily touted recruiter quarterback. He was Greg Paulus' younger brother,
- 54:00Speaker 2: for those of you who don't remember this. And so
- 54:03Speaker 2: what we had here was a redshirt freshman quarterback being
- 54:07Speaker 2: thrown to the wolves of Bud Foster. And I went
- 54:10Speaker 2: down to the sideline. For that game, for that last drive.
- 54:15Speaker 2: I don't think you understand those two and a half
- 54:18Speaker 2: seconds that you got to make a decision in. It's
- 54:23Speaker 2: really fast. It's really, really fast. I watched a young
- 54:27Speaker 2: man's career end before it even started. I could not
- 54:32Speaker 2: believe that they were getting.
- 54:34Speaker 3: There that fast. You know Bud Foster smelled like food.
- 54:38Speaker 2: Yep, food. That was it. He did that to JT Barrett.
- 54:41Speaker 2: That year, Ohio State won the championship. His first start
- 54:45Speaker 2: was against Navy. They lost a home game to Virginia Tech.
- 54:48Speaker 2: That's exactly it. Bud Foster, who'd been running the same
- 54:51Speaker 2: plays since 1994, was like, food. Watch what we do
- 54:57Speaker 2: with our food. Oh, my God. I was like, I
- 55:00Speaker 2: can't believe that people do this. you know, back then
- 55:02Speaker 2: for free. Gotta be kidding.
- 55:05Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
- 55:07Speaker 4: Bo, I love all the Prince content you have been
- 55:10Speaker 4: doing lately. I'm a big Prince fan myself. Mark from
- 55:15Speaker 4: Los Angeles. And it's funny, if anyone hears this that
- 55:20Speaker 4: knows me, and they say, Mark from Los Angeles, talking
- 55:22Speaker 4: about Prince, they'll know exactly who I am. Because since
- 55:24Speaker 4: I was six years old, people have been telling me,
- 55:26Speaker 4: you look like Prince. Do you know who you look like?
- 55:27Speaker 4: Do you know who you look like? Do you know
- 55:29Speaker 4: who you look like?
- 55:30Speaker 1: The Prince.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Hits and B-sides profile picture could be my senior picture. Anyways,
- 55:36Speaker 4: going off of everything you have been doing on the
- 55:39Speaker 4: last Throwback Tuesdays and the Wally Sparks, I just had
- 55:43Speaker 4: a story, thought I would share it with the crew.
- 55:46Speaker 4: My girlfriend in 2001 won concert tickets from the radio
- 55:52Speaker 4: station in Oakland to see Prince. And she knew, like,
- 55:57Speaker 4: that was my guy. So we go, and I'm not
- 56:00Speaker 4: saying I could touch the wall in the nosebleed seats,
- 56:03Speaker 4: like to the edge of the stadium, but I could
- 56:05Speaker 4: see it. But we're sitting seven stories up. Prince comes out.
- 56:11Speaker 4: It's 2001. He does, like, Let It Go. He does, like, Emancipation.
- 56:17Speaker 4: He's doing just new stuff. Nothing classic. Nothing that anyone who,
- 56:23Speaker 4: you know, would come to see Prince came to see him.
- 56:27Speaker 4: He does the show. He ends the show. He says,
- 56:30Speaker 4: thank you, Oakland. Good night.
- 56:31Speaker 1: He walks off.
- 56:33Speaker 4: There is a purple light emanating from the stage. And
- 56:37Speaker 4: it goes and everyone gets up and they go, I
- 56:39Speaker 4: guess the show is over. I go, why is that
- 56:40Speaker 4: light on? And people get up and they leave and
- 56:44Speaker 4: it's five minutes and they get up and they leave
- 56:46Speaker 4: and it's seven minutes and they get up and they leave.
- 56:47Speaker 4: 20 minutes. I say, I am not leaving because that
- 56:52Speaker 4: light is on for a reason.
- 56:55Speaker 1: All these people leave.
- 56:56Speaker 4: It's like the 2013 heat or whatever it is. I
- 57:00Speaker 4: don't know. 20 minutes in, Prince comes out and does
- 57:07Speaker 4: Purple Rain track to track, front to back. And I'm
- 57:11Speaker 4: standing up there in room row 27,000 jamming out to
- 57:17Speaker 4: hearing him do Purple Rain, the entire album for another
- 57:21Speaker 4: two hours. Just like it's nothing. It's nothing. And that's
- 57:27Speaker 4: my Prince story. So don't leave concerts early. Thank you
- 57:30Speaker 4: for what you're doing. Mark from Los Angeles. Yes, I
- 57:33Speaker 4: look like Prince.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I know it. Have a good day.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Yo, that was an amazing payoff. I also have the question,
- 57:40Speaker 2: not so much if you look like Prince, but if
- 57:42Speaker 2: you do look like Prince, how tall are you? No,
- 57:46Speaker 2: I'd say I went to a Prince show in Raleigh
- 57:48Speaker 2: once and it was encore time. I think he did
- 57:52Speaker 2: second encore and we're there. And I'll just never forget
- 57:55Speaker 2: this for the life of me because I learned something
- 57:57Speaker 2: very interesting that night. So while he's doing it, there's
- 58:00Speaker 2: one woman. First of all, not only were an encore status,
- 58:03Speaker 2: like I'm on the floor at this point. I can't
- 58:05Speaker 2: remember my seats are on the floor. We're on the floor.
- 58:08Speaker 2: It's encore status. Now you can smell the weed, right?
- 58:11Speaker 2: The weed done been fired up. But some woman was
- 58:13Speaker 2: standing on her chair. She jamming out and buddy got
- 58:16Speaker 2: that yellow jacket on and he's in front of her
- 58:18Speaker 2: telling her to get down. She looking right through like
- 58:20Speaker 2: he ain't even there. Just keep going. And then when
- 58:22Speaker 2: he finally walked away, she was like. And I was like, yep.
- 58:26Speaker 2: And it was an important lesson. Once the encore hits,
- 58:30Speaker 2: security has lost all leverage. What you going to do,
- 58:34Speaker 2: throw me out? Show's over, right? And I just remember
- 58:39Speaker 2: looking at that woman and I was like, huh, this
- 58:41Speaker 2: is something that can be applied to my larger life.
- 58:45Speaker 2: But ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for joining us
- 58:47Speaker 2: here on The Right Time. We do this four days
- 58:50Speaker 2: a week. Ryan Brumley handled everything behind the scenes. Thank you, sir.
