- 0:01Speaker 1: If you listen to this podcast and you're listening to
- 0:03Speaker 1: this episode where we're talking about these things, you are
- 0:06Speaker 1: no longer in the camp of oh I didn't know.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You know now. And what we're saying is we're not
- 0:12Speaker 1: saying you can be perfect. What we're saying is that
- 0:14Speaker 1: if you will fully submit to God, he can change
- 0:17Speaker 1: your heart. And you're still going to have to make
- 0:20Speaker 1: a choice. God gave you a choice. He's not gonna
- 0:22Speaker 1: God's not gonna turn you into a little Christian robot.
- 0:25Speaker 1: But when you'll possess these superpowers through saying God, I'm
- 0:28Speaker 1: gonna quit doing it my way and I'm gonna do
- 0:30Speaker 1: it your way, then you get the sword that can
- 0:33Speaker 1: actually cut these things down. You're still gonna have to
- 0:36Speaker 1: swing the sword, but God gives you the sword that
- 0:38Speaker 1: you don't have to live the way that you used
- 0:40Speaker 1: to live. That you get the opportunity to change and
- 0:43Speaker 1: truly be transformed. That's impossible. Let me tell you what
- 0:48Speaker 1: I believe, true weakness. It's not your technique. Don't think
- 0:54Speaker 1: you know you the.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Impossible Life podcast, You're just sitting on a winning lottery.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Second, an idea that is fully formed, fully understood, that sticks.
- 1:08Speaker 1: This is the Impossible Life Podcast because Nick and I
- 1:12Speaker 1: are attempting to live impossible lives. What we know is
- 1:16Speaker 1: that nothing is impossible. So instead of using impossible as
- 1:20Speaker 1: an excuse to not try, we'll use the pursuit of
- 1:23Speaker 1: impossible as an accelerant for greatness. If something's never been
- 1:27Speaker 1: done before, that just means it's unexplored. If they tell
- 1:31Speaker 1: you it's too hard, it's just waiting to be simplified.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Impossible as a default label used by uncourageous people unwilling
- 1:40Speaker 1: to take a risk. The real truth is this The
- 1:44Speaker 1: solution to any impossible task starts with this question, if
- 1:49Speaker 1: I had to what would it take? What would it take?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Welcome to another episode of the Impossible Life Podcast. I'm
- 1:57Speaker 3: your co host, Nick Surface, and I'm looking across at
- 1:59Speaker 3: amand such great vision. His eyesight score is five to twenty.
- 2:03Speaker 3: That's right, friends, the Phoe Garrett uncle back a man
- 2:10Speaker 3: born with sniper scopes for eyes.
- 2:13Speaker 1: That would be excellent, but it would not be five
- 2:16Speaker 1: to twenty. That's the opposite uh improved vision. So twenty
- 2:20Speaker 1: feet The first twenty is I see twenty feet away
- 2:24Speaker 1: like it is the second number, it's like twenty ten
- 2:27Speaker 1: would mean you see twenty feet away like it's ten
- 2:29Speaker 1: feet away. Thank you. You just said that I see
- 2:31Speaker 1: five feet away like it's twenty.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Feet I use, Well, if do you have a scope
- 2:35Speaker 3: on your ar?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:37Speaker 3: What what's the what's the scopes?
- 2:38Speaker 1: One to ten?
- 2:39Speaker 3: Okay, that's what I did. Okay, I was used. That's
- 2:42Speaker 3: why I said snipers. That's why I purposely did this,
- 2:43Speaker 3: because I looked this up beforehand. The lady, the person
- 2:47Speaker 3: is the highest eyesight.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Probably gonna go with vortex six to thirty six.
- 2:51Speaker 3: But it's okay, I dude. I knew I was gonna
- 2:53Speaker 3: get criticized for my scope choice, and I was like,
- 2:54Speaker 3: I don't even care, because it's gonna happen no matter
- 2:56Speaker 3: what I choose. But the highest, the highest score ever
- 2:59Speaker 3: was a woman named Veronica Sider in nineteen seventy two.
- 3:02Speaker 3: She was a West German student.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Oh I love that you have this.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, well, dude, I did a little research for this intro.
- 3:07Speaker 3: It was twenty to two. Oh my god, that's crazy.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I was. I don't have I had to get lasi.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I don't have laser vision anymore. Well, I had to
- 3:15Speaker 1: repair my laser vision.
- 3:18Speaker 3: You wang on this is not an intro. You were
- 3:20Speaker 3: born with laser vision?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Or do you mean you got I had? I had
- 3:23Speaker 1: twenty fifteen when I went into the Navy.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Right, okay, but like just to say her vision was
- 3:29Speaker 3: calculated to be twenty times better than average human vision,
- 3:31Speaker 3: she gets insane. She could reportedly identify people and distinguish
- 3:34Speaker 3: tiny details from over a mile away.
- 3:37Speaker 1: That's crazy. Can you imagine that she must have had
- 3:40Speaker 1: like a an abnormal eye shape that gave her, yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: super focus. It's incredible.
- 3:47Speaker 3: But man, nineteen seventy two, that's a record that's still
- 3:50Speaker 3: waiting to do to be used.
- 3:52Speaker 1: All of her staff points.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, she was worthless and everything else. Couldn't jump
- 3:56Speaker 3: for inches off the don couldn't even run a mile
- 3:58Speaker 3: in fifteen minutes, but man, she could. It's the mile,
- 4:01Speaker 3: so anyways, don't need to run already been there.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Today's the day.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Gee, Today we are talking about leadership, which is one
- 4:07Speaker 3: of our favorite things to talk about. We talk about
- 4:09Speaker 3: it a lot. When it just means we are.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Going to talk today about some of the things that
- 4:13Speaker 1: we always talk about, and we are going to talk
- 4:15Speaker 1: about leadership today, which I like, I think we're going
- 4:18Speaker 1: to talk about leadership more often. When I look back
- 4:21Speaker 1: at three hundred and twenty episodes, the amount of times
- 4:23Speaker 1: we've talked about leadership, I would say is not enough.
- 4:25Speaker 3: So no, it's not.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It's actually and it's one of my favorite things to
- 4:28Speaker 1: talk about.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Well, and it's massively important because every person out there
- 4:31Speaker 3: that's in this the very least you lead yourself.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I think we're in a great place to talk about
- 4:36Speaker 1: it now. And the only reason we didn't talk about
- 4:38Speaker 1: it more in the beginning wasn't because I didn't want
- 4:42Speaker 1: to talk about it, but more so from the fact
- 4:44Speaker 1: of a lot of people just jump in and start
- 4:46Speaker 1: talking about leadership. But there's a base that you have
- 4:49Speaker 1: to have because leadership is not the first skill that
- 4:52Speaker 1: you learn in life. Correct. And so, just by the way,
- 4:54Speaker 1: for some of you who you know love The Impossible
- 4:57Speaker 1: Life Podcast, listen to the show the episodes you listened to,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I would just tell you every single one of our
- 5:03Speaker 1: episodes is worth listening to, and I would say, build
- 5:06Speaker 1: the base for where we are. Well, there's a lot
- 5:09Speaker 1: you get a lot out of listening to twenty episodes.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You get a lot out of listen into fifty episodes,
- 5:12Speaker 1: but I would tell you it is worthwhile, and applause
- 5:15Speaker 1: to those of you who do and you reach out
- 5:17Speaker 1: to us. And I've talked to you, I know some
- 5:19Speaker 1: of you guys that are halfway through, and I've talked
- 5:21Speaker 1: to many of you who've already done it. You went
- 5:22Speaker 1: all the way to the beginning and you listened all
- 5:24Speaker 1: the way through.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Yeah, and that was you know. I give you credit
- 5:28Speaker 3: because I was talked to some men about the podcast
- 5:29Speaker 3: yesterday and I was saying, from day zero you said,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I want everything we do to be key motive, and
- 5:33Speaker 3: I want whatever we say to stand up for all time.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I had no idea what you meant praise the Lord
- 5:38Speaker 3: that you did, but it has actually worked out that
- 5:41Speaker 3: way because you don't go back to like, oh they've
- 5:42Speaker 3: changed a lot on this, or like why did they
- 5:44Speaker 3: do this random episode.
- 5:45Speaker 1: There's not an episode where we could go back and say, ah,
- 5:47Speaker 1: we can delete that. No one should listen to that anymore, right,
- 5:50Speaker 1: you should listen to all the episodes because.
- 5:52Speaker 3: We're talking about how to live an impossible life, aka
- 5:54Speaker 3: a life that's like wholly sold out, full out following
- 5:57Speaker 3: after God. And so it's you know, glad that it's
- 6:00Speaker 3: culative and praise the Lord. We're just going to keep
- 6:02Speaker 3: getting better hopefully. All right, So gee, when I think
- 6:04Speaker 3: about leadership, man, because what we're going to do, we're
- 6:06Speaker 3: going to give you God's superpower perspective on leadership to
- 6:11Speaker 3: like give you the mindset you need.
- 6:13Speaker 1: There is. I have this view of life, and truly,
- 6:17Speaker 1: as a follower of God, you should feel this way too.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I have this view of life that truly God's way
- 6:22Speaker 1: of doing things is the best way of doing things.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Christ didn't come to the earth with inferior tools, right Like,
- 6:29Speaker 1: for I will give an example really quick. This isn't
- 6:31Speaker 1: what we're going to talk about the way that we
- 6:33Speaker 1: but you and I were talking about some of this
- 6:34Speaker 1: this morning, the way that we have built mighty men.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I didn't make anything up this. When I view Christ's
- 6:41Speaker 1: life and how he built something, I view it with
- 6:44Speaker 1: the underlying thought process of he could have done it
- 6:47Speaker 1: any way that he wanted to. He wasn't stuck in
- 6:50Speaker 1: a box. He wasn't weak Jesus like, oh, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I can't say these things. He came here with you know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: the greatest level of wisdom and understanding and says this
- 7:00Speaker 1: is the way that I'm going to build a ministry.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And so for example, he didn't say I got to
- 7:06Speaker 1: speak to as many people as possible on earth myself.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Right then, you know what he would have done, He
- 7:11Speaker 1: would have come at this time, right yea YouTube, Yeah
- 7:14Speaker 1: he would, hey, exactly, he'd have a great YouTube channel.
- 7:16Speaker 2: No.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Back then, he said, I've got to develop a few
- 7:19Speaker 1: disciples and fully transform and help them get to where
- 7:23Speaker 1: they fully understand and they're starting to lead other people.
- 7:26Speaker 1: And at that point they don't need me anymore. They're
- 7:29Speaker 1: ready to go on and this thing will multiply. That's
- 7:32Speaker 1: that's a we think that's the way to lead a ministry, right,
- 7:36Speaker 1: true discipleship with a small amount of people. Multiply those folks,
- 7:40Speaker 1: let them transform, and if they can go out and
- 7:42Speaker 1: teach the same thing that you've taught them, this is
- 7:44Speaker 1: what Jesus did, then the ministry is going to grow.
- 7:47Speaker 1: That is an example of you can spend your whole
- 7:49Speaker 1: life trying to think, man, how do you grow a ministry.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Jesus already showed you. He already showed you. And I
- 7:55Speaker 1: think there are many other things in scripture and in
- 7:58Speaker 1: christ life, in Christ's life or in scripture, or just
- 8:01Speaker 1: things that you can piece together from an understanding of
- 8:03Speaker 1: all of it, and some proverbs wisdom and some James wisdom,
- 8:07Speaker 1: that you can put all these things together and say, man,
- 8:08Speaker 1: this is how God would do it. That's the best
- 8:10Speaker 1: way to do it. And so I say all that
- 8:12Speaker 1: to say I have this view of life that if
- 8:15Speaker 1: I know there is a best way to do everything,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and if I don't know what it is, I'm going
- 8:18Speaker 1: to look at scripture. And I have this whole podcast
- 8:21Speaker 1: is Nick and I working together, us growing and developing
- 8:24Speaker 1: over years, trying to put into words and make it
- 8:29Speaker 1: plain for people to understand God's way is the best way.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And here's exactly what that looks like. I'll never be
- 8:36Speaker 1: able to say it all in one podcast. I don't
- 8:39Speaker 1: know if for the rest of my life I'll be
- 8:40Speaker 1: able to say, like, here's how you think like God
- 8:43Speaker 1: in five minutes. I don't think I'll ever be able
- 8:45Speaker 1: to do it. But I will spend the rest of
- 8:46Speaker 1: my life trying to understand it, trying to live it,
- 8:49Speaker 1: to discover it and share it with other people.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think you're ever meant to be able
- 8:53Speaker 3: to stay in five minutes I actually think that that's
- 8:55Speaker 3: probably one of the places where our culture works against
- 8:59Speaker 3: God's process most is that we want to watch an
- 9:02Speaker 3: Instagram reel that's going to keep our attention for sixty
- 9:04Speaker 3: seconds and tell us.
- 9:04Speaker 1: How here's how to be a millionaire in sixty seconds.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Right, and and like, what's the natural supernatural correlation. I've
- 9:10Speaker 3: never seen anyone come out of the womb walking, talking,
- 9:12Speaker 3: and ready to go to work. You come out completely useless,
- 9:15Speaker 3: like from a standpoint of utility, and needing to be raised, fed,
- 9:20Speaker 3: taught how to you know, they learn how to walk
- 9:21Speaker 3: from watching you, they learn how to talk from hearing it.
- 9:24Speaker 3: So that's how God develops us as well. It's it
- 9:27Speaker 3: takes time. It takes a lot of repetition. You need
- 9:29Speaker 3: to be raised by people who are more mature.
- 9:30Speaker 1: We're just talking about that on the last episode. Yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 1: there is there is a There is a set time
- 9:35Speaker 1: like clock time, but God also a points an amount
- 9:37Speaker 1: of time.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah thinks I love that. Yeah, now, gee real quick,
- 9:40Speaker 3: because I do want to get into the superpower combination
- 9:43Speaker 3: of mindset here, and we've sort of gone a little
- 9:45Speaker 3: off script with our with the way to do it.
- 9:47Speaker 3: But I'm enjoying it. You talked about Christ having the
- 9:49Speaker 3: best way, and I think it's so interesting because I
- 9:51Speaker 3: always say this, Well, I say this really because I've
- 9:54Speaker 3: heard it from you. You don't say it exactly like this.
- 9:56Speaker 3: But the Seal Teams are like the greatest organ training
- 9:58Speaker 3: organization that we know in the history of man.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I've been a part of quite a few different organizations,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and really my takeaway, and this builds on what I
- 10:06Speaker 1: was just saying about discipleship. One of my takeaways in
- 10:09Speaker 1: life of what I've learned on leadership and leading teams
- 10:12Speaker 1: is that the best organizations are great training organizations. Okay,
- 10:16Speaker 1: that is why Mighty Men really feels like a training program. Yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Ok.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And when I look at the Seal Teams, one of
- 10:23Speaker 1: the things that I took away from there that the
- 10:25Speaker 1: Seals have a bunch of credibility, a lot of great leaders,
- 10:28Speaker 1: a lot of people writing books. And I'm not hating
- 10:30Speaker 1: on the books that people write like other people do,
- 10:32Speaker 1: but there's so many great lessons and things from there.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But something I haven't seen people talk about as much
- 10:36Speaker 1: that I think is one of the greatest takeaways from
- 10:38Speaker 1: the Seal Teams is how great they are at training, right,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I showed up to Seal Team three and eight team,
- 10:44Speaker 1: didn't you know, I don't want to say didn't know
- 10:45Speaker 1: what I was doing. But I've never done this before.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I've just been through like the basic training and now
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm here to team and eighteen months later, I've got
- 10:52Speaker 1: to be in a place to have guys walk into
- 10:54Speaker 1: the same set of shoes that I was eighteen months
- 10:56Speaker 1: ago and help them move down the road. And you know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: every three years to every five years, depending on commands
- 11:02Speaker 1: and situations, leaders get plucked out. It's like, well you're
- 11:05Speaker 1: going somewhere else, putting a new guy in there. Yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 1: And so the these it's because they have a great
- 11:10Speaker 1: training program. They have a lot of consistency in how
- 11:13Speaker 1: they train, they have consistency of standards, they have strong systems.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So people move, get deleted, or people die, and they're like,
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's okay, just put the next guy in. Right. That
- 11:22Speaker 1: is that is a great business.
- 11:23Speaker 3: It's incredible. Well, but you told you you've told a
- 11:26Speaker 3: story on this podcast before. So but what you talked
- 11:28Speaker 3: about with christ coming into like I'm going to train
- 11:30Speaker 3: people who are going to be able to train other people.
- 11:32Speaker 3: The story you told and that's why I think is
- 11:34Speaker 3: so interesting about you said God's ways are the greatest,
- 11:37Speaker 3: and the reason is because they're built on truth. And
- 11:39Speaker 3: so you can have an organization like the Seal Teams
- 11:41Speaker 3: that will will uncover truth without necessarily recognizing the author.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It's this. Okay. Let me give you the parallel example
- 11:47Speaker 1: to the Seal Teams. You could bring in You could
- 11:50Speaker 1: bring in like the best shooter in the world. They're
- 11:53Speaker 1: the best guy at shooting rockets in the world. Bring
- 11:56Speaker 1: that guy in and say, Okay, we're going to get
- 11:58Speaker 1: a thousand of the sty students who don't know how
- 12:00Speaker 1: to shoot a rocket launcher in front of that guy.
- 12:02Speaker 1: We're all gonna let this is the best guy at
- 12:04Speaker 1: shooting rocket launchers in the world. We're gonna get everybody
- 12:08Speaker 1: in front of him to shoot rock like to watch him,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and then you'll learn. And that's how a lot of
- 12:12Speaker 1: ministry operates, okay, okay, or the way that the Seal
- 12:15Speaker 1: Teams trainers are like, well, this is John. John's fired
- 12:18Speaker 1: a few rockets in combat. John's gonna be running, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: rocket training today. And then what John does is John's
- 12:24Speaker 1: gonna teach Garrett. I'm gonna watch him do it. He's
- 12:27Speaker 1: gonna talk through it for me. Then he's gonna talk
- 12:30Speaker 1: me through it. Then I'm gonna do it on my own.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Then John's gonna watch Garretty. After I'm doing it on
- 12:36Speaker 1: my own, take someone else run the same cycle. Right,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk them. I'm gonna talk and explain it
- 12:42Speaker 1: to them. They're gonna let them do it. I'm gonna
- 12:44Speaker 1: talk them through it. Then they're gonna explain it to
- 12:46Speaker 1: me as they're doing it. Then they're gonna do it
- 12:47Speaker 1: on their own, right, And then they're gonna do the
- 12:49Speaker 1: same thing with another guy. And as soon as the
- 12:51Speaker 1: guy that I talk and do it with another guy,
- 12:52Speaker 1: John's like, all right, Garrett, you're good to go.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Right, which is basically discipleship. When the person that I
- 12:57Speaker 3: have trained can train other people, that's whenever you know
- 13:00Speaker 3: you've done it. And that's exactly what Jesus did, is
- 13:02Speaker 3: that he is he trained these disciples that were went
- 13:05Speaker 3: out and then made other disciples and absolutely changed the world.
- 13:08Speaker 3: And that was the point that that we want to
- 13:09Speaker 3: make when we're looking at this is when we're talking
- 13:11Speaker 3: about leadership, the thought process that the greatest thing you
- 13:15Speaker 3: could do is to do exactly what God says. That
- 13:17Speaker 3: is the superpower because you have the unlock of truth,
- 13:19Speaker 3: and truth is so man, I'll just say blurry. In
- 13:24Speaker 3: current times, when we have so much information, that's hard
- 13:26Speaker 3: to tell. What's the first thing that people say? Now
- 13:28Speaker 3: is that AI?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Right, Like we don't even believe what we see. I
- 13:32Speaker 1: have to Yeah, I didn't have to do this before,
- 13:34Speaker 1: but now like in my when I'm doing some of
- 13:37Speaker 1: my pitch decks for Union, and I show certain pictures
- 13:39Speaker 1: like go, hey, just someone to let you know, those
- 13:40Speaker 1: are not AI photos. These are real photos.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Like, think about it, man, you can't even like I'll
- 13:45Speaker 3: believe when I see it. Maybe not because you know
- 13:48Speaker 3: what you're seeing could be completely wrong. Now all right,
- 13:50Speaker 3: so gee, this superpower combination? Man, that was literally the
- 13:53Speaker 3: words that you use. This is the following God is
- 13:56Speaker 3: a superpower combination has three things.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and again what this is is Okay, I believe
- 14:02Speaker 1: it is there. I've experienced it, I've seen it, and
- 14:05Speaker 1: it's just hard for me to explain it to people.
- 14:07Speaker 1: And I'm doing the best that I can. But there
- 14:09Speaker 1: are some things that you should have and if you
- 14:10Speaker 1: want to hear more of it, come to Mighty Man.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Because this is like basically the undertone of every message
- 14:14Speaker 1: that I preach. I don't want to like, I'm never
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm not. I don't try to be rude or insulting,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but I also preach from this standpoint of such an
- 14:23Speaker 1: authority of like this is the best way. Why are
- 14:25Speaker 1: you not doing this? If you are trying to follow
- 14:28Speaker 1: God but you're not living by what it says. You
- 14:31Speaker 1: have asked to go into the battlefield with none of
- 14:33Speaker 1: the armor and equipment that God since you with right.
- 14:37Speaker 1: The reason God puts you in such a crazy fight
- 14:39Speaker 1: is he says, I'm also going to give you tools,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and I'm going to give you weapons that help you
- 14:44Speaker 1: overcome all of these things. Okay, so the superpower combination.
- 14:48Speaker 1: When you have an eternal mindset, this is eternal mindset.
- 14:52Speaker 1: One of my favorite episodes. One of our Buddy Big
- 14:56Speaker 1: Norms favorite episodes, Long term time frame Orientation. Okay, when
- 14:59Speaker 1: you can see further down the road, when you can
- 15:02Speaker 1: look further, you're playing a different game. If you are
- 15:07Speaker 1: operating for tomorrow, if you're operating for a month from now,
- 15:09Speaker 1: if you're operating from for six months from now, then
- 15:13Speaker 1: you're going to play the game differently than someone who's like,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I'll win in ten years, I'll win in twenty years.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I'm going to win in the end. By the way,
- 15:21Speaker 1: just side note, part of the reason we've been losing
- 15:23Speaker 1: to in the short term losing two countries like China
- 15:26Speaker 1: also losing to Islam because they're playing a multi generational
- 15:30Speaker 1: game right and America is stuck in a four year cycle.
- 15:34Speaker 1: That's a rabbit trail. Won't go down that road. Something
- 15:36Speaker 1: we could talk about a different time. But when you
- 15:39Speaker 1: are playing the short term game, you're going to lose
- 15:42Speaker 1: to someone who's playing a longer time frame orientation than you.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I say that to say an eternal mindset where you're
- 15:49Speaker 1: not just looking to the end of this life, but
- 15:51Speaker 1: you're looking into eternity. It allows you to play differently.
- 15:55Speaker 1: This is what wouldn't you think that? Just let me
- 15:58Speaker 1: give this, you know, simplify this. Give this simple example.
- 16:01Speaker 1: If you are playing on the battlefield against someone who
- 16:05Speaker 1: is trying to win in this world, and you're trying
- 16:08Speaker 1: to win an eternity, and you're not afraid of death,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and you know that God is with you, you may
- 16:14Speaker 1: not know necessarily how the battle is going to go.
- 16:17Speaker 1: But you can say, like Paul did, if I live,
- 16:21Speaker 1: it's great, and if I die that's also great. To
- 16:24Speaker 1: live is Christ and to die is for Christ. That's
- 16:27Speaker 1: eternal mindset. If you're playing that way and you're playing
- 16:31Speaker 1: against someone who's operating for this world, who do you
- 16:34Speaker 1: think is going to win? Okay? This is an example
- 16:37Speaker 1: of superpowers that come from following Christ. So when you
- 16:41Speaker 1: have this great eternal mindset, when you can see into
- 16:43Speaker 1: eternity and you're playing a longer game, you will live
- 16:46Speaker 1: a straighter life. And by that, I mean you will
- 16:49Speaker 1: live a more linear path of a life where everything
- 16:51Speaker 1: you're doing is working together. It's all working towards one
- 16:54Speaker 1: aim in the end, versus like, well, I tried to
- 16:56Speaker 1: do this for a season, and I try to do
- 16:58Speaker 1: this for a season. I come from short term thinking.
- 17:01Speaker 1: It turns into a zigzag life. If you look, you know,
- 17:04Speaker 1: into eternity with your life, you live a very straight
- 17:08Speaker 1: line of a life. And what this turns into is
- 17:11Speaker 1: a mindset of endurance where it's like, oh, I know
- 17:16Speaker 1: what's going to happen in the end. Right. If you're
- 17:17Speaker 1: playing the long term game, like short term pain, you're
- 17:20Speaker 1: like I'm going to endure through this, right, And you've
- 17:22Speaker 1: got to have the mindset. You've got to have the
- 17:24Speaker 1: heck of I the James chapter one, the considerate joy
- 17:27Speaker 1: that goes with it. But it's also First Desalonians chapter one,
- 17:31Speaker 1: verse three, endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 17:35Speaker 1: You know what you have endurance because you see what
- 17:37Speaker 1: God's plan is right, And that's where you can say, like, literally,
- 17:42Speaker 1: if I lose today, whatever, I know what's going to
- 17:45Speaker 1: happen in the end. That is long term time frame
- 17:47Speaker 1: orientation and so to where other the stuff that like
- 17:50Speaker 1: rattles other people. I lost my business or this didn't
- 17:53Speaker 1: work out, or you know, the hail came and destroyed
- 17:56Speaker 1: my crop. You're saying that's not a big deal. Yeah,
- 17:59Speaker 1: that's so good.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I feel like there's fifteen examples of how short term
- 18:02Speaker 3: thinking absolutely kills us. And what you said with America.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I think about marketing where companies get hooked on this
- 18:08Speaker 3: is like, man, we need to generate some cash, so
- 18:10Speaker 3: we're just gonna go on sale. Well, then later on
- 18:12Speaker 3: when five years later, when you're like wondering why you
- 18:14Speaker 3: can't you don't have a great, strong brand and you
- 18:16Speaker 3: can't sell full price products. It's because you've conditioned people.
- 18:19Speaker 3: You know, there's certain brands out there that they live
- 18:21Speaker 3: like this. Fabletics is a brand that we like and
- 18:23Speaker 3: you know, you know, you get that VIP membership, you
- 18:25Speaker 3: can get those eighty dollars shorts for fifteen bucks. Well,
- 18:27Speaker 3: I can never pay more for what they have because
- 18:30Speaker 3: I've always bought it for ten or fifteen bucks. And
- 18:33Speaker 3: so it's like people don't always think about they're got.
- 18:35Speaker 1: To say, Fabletics is a company that you put some
- 18:38Speaker 1: celebrities on it, you build a big name and a brand,
- 18:40Speaker 1: and you sell it real fast. Right.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's a volume game for sure, But
- 18:44Speaker 3: people don't always think that way. I mean, great example,
- 18:47Speaker 3: we all got bailout checks. Man, oh that's awesome. Yes,
- 18:51Speaker 3: I've got more money. Oh shoot, here comes inflation. Right,
- 18:54Speaker 3: And so this type of thought process is all the
- 18:56Speaker 3: time I'm giving company and government in our lives. It's man,
- 19:00Speaker 3: I just don't want to cook tonight. Let's just get
- 19:02Speaker 3: let's just get takeout. And then you know, fast forward
- 19:05Speaker 3: six months, you can't figure out you know, you're twenty
- 19:06Speaker 3: five pounds heavier because you've just pressed the easy buttons
- 19:09Speaker 3: so many times.
- 19:09Speaker 1: That is all the time. That is that is the
- 19:12Speaker 1: pattern of sin in our lives. Yeah, is play now,
- 19:16Speaker 1: pay later? Yeah?
- 19:17Speaker 3: Man, I was talking to somebody. You don't ever want
- 19:20Speaker 3: to borrow from tomorrow's happiness. I was talking to somebody
- 19:22Speaker 3: about why I no longer drink, and I just said,
- 19:24Speaker 3: I can't ever have a drink without feeling bad the
- 19:26Speaker 3: next day. I'm just physically I feel bad. And I said,
- 19:30Speaker 3: I don't want to borrow from tomorrow's happiness because paying
- 19:32Speaker 3: it back is never worth it.
- 19:35Speaker 1: You're never going to win in life if you are
- 19:38Speaker 1: just thinking about, you know, what, how do I make today?
- 19:41Speaker 1: How am I happy today? Right? What's going to be
- 19:43Speaker 1: good for me today? You've got to get your life
- 19:46Speaker 1: mission focused where you're looking into the end. Okay, And
- 19:49Speaker 1: so the second piece that comes with this, right, and
- 19:51Speaker 1: we're just I'm just giving some of the superpowers. We'll
- 19:53Speaker 1: talk about this stuff more and we're going to turn
- 19:54Speaker 1: all this into a leadership conversation here in just a minute.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But it's it's purpose. But if you listen to this podcast,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and you listen to enough of our episodes on purpose, it's
- 20:03Speaker 1: not like Hey, God finally sent me my assignment. Yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 1: that's what I mean. It is this way of living
- 20:08Speaker 1: that we call purpose full living. And even when you
- 20:11Speaker 1: don't know what your purpose is. It's like Joseph was
- 20:14Speaker 1: living his purpose while he was in prison. Didn't know
- 20:16Speaker 1: his purpose was to save all of Israel for starvation
- 20:18Speaker 1: and famine. However he was living purposely. It's this way
- 20:22Speaker 1: of living where it's like, I know God has a
- 20:24Speaker 1: purpose and even if I don't see it, that must
- 20:26Speaker 1: be part of the plan. Maybe he wanted me to
- 20:29Speaker 1: live in this desert. Maybe he wanted me to learn
- 20:32Speaker 1: how to walk blind for a season, to trust him
- 20:36Speaker 1: to develop me. So maybe it hurts right now because
- 20:39Speaker 1: this is a part of the training program. It's like
- 20:42Speaker 1: it's like when you watch some of these siop thriller
- 20:45Speaker 1: movies where guys are like the super secret agents and
- 20:48Speaker 1: they're stuck in the training loop because they're like, oh, well,
- 20:51Speaker 1: this must just be part of the program, right, Yeah,
- 20:52Speaker 1: they don't. They don't know. It's like this is no, no, no,
- 20:54Speaker 1: they're stop to stop the training no, and they're like, nope,
- 20:57Speaker 1: that's just that's exactly what you would say.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Just like that that they found that still thought Vietnam
- 21:01Speaker 3: the vistic wars exactly.
- 21:03Speaker 1: But it's understanding. It's it's funny to make that comparison,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but it's understanding. This is how God works with our lives.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Everything is God developing you. Now there's certainly like we
- 21:13Speaker 1: make things harder all the time. You like, when we sin,
- 21:17Speaker 1: you invite calamity into your life. And I'm not trying
- 21:20Speaker 1: to sin less because I'm just trying to make God
- 21:22Speaker 1: happy because the only thing that makes God happy is
- 21:26Speaker 1: when His Christ's blood on my life is the only
- 21:30Speaker 1: thing that makes me presentable to Christ. I'm not trying
- 21:32Speaker 1: to sin less so that I can somehow please God.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I'm trying to sin less so God, you know, quit's
- 21:38Speaker 1: having to wipe the board and start over with me.
- 21:40Speaker 1: You know, I'm trying to I want to get down
- 21:42Speaker 1: the road and God's plan and purpose for my life.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And I know sin interrupts that, yeah, massively, but just
- 21:48Speaker 1: on purpose. It's living purposely and knowing like, hey, I
- 21:52Speaker 1: don't have to control all the outcomes. The one who
- 21:55Speaker 1: controls all the outcomes has a plan. What is he
- 21:58Speaker 1: looking for me to do to live purposely? Right? And
- 22:01Speaker 1: it's a part of this is when you stack a
- 22:05Speaker 1: purposeful living on top of eternal mindset, you're not afraid
- 22:08Speaker 1: of failure. I was saying this to Grace the other night.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Grace is my oldest daughter. We were talking. We read
- 22:16Speaker 1: this great book called it is called Trying, and I
- 22:19Speaker 1: was like, I don't know, it's not all, but actually
- 22:22Speaker 1: the book was good. A man who pushes back on
- 22:24Speaker 1: well known fables Garrett Uncle back. It was good. I
- 22:27Speaker 1: liked it. But I was talking to Grace about it
- 22:31Speaker 1: at bedtime of Hey, look, let me tell you the
- 22:33Speaker 1: difference between winners and losers. And she asked me, she's like,
- 22:36Speaker 1: am I winner? I said you are? I said, I said,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you're my daughter. And also you're going to live like
- 22:41Speaker 1: a winner. And here's how winners live. Winners are not
- 22:43Speaker 1: afraid to fail. And I said to her, I said,
- 22:45Speaker 1: winners lose more than losers. And like, she's at this
- 22:49Speaker 1: age where I start dropping stuff on her that you're not.
- 22:52Speaker 1: You won't figure this out yet, but you'll think about
- 22:55Speaker 1: it and you'll remember what I said. And I know
- 22:57Speaker 1: how to catch her in the right space, certainly before bedtimes.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It could time to just drop those little thoughts there
- 23:01Speaker 1: and I said, this is kind of a riddle. You
- 23:03Speaker 1: know how we talk about riddles, So this is kind
- 23:05Speaker 1: of a riddle of life. Winners lose more than losers.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Losers are people who are afraid to lose, and losers
- 23:12Speaker 1: are people who won't try or they give up. Winners
- 23:16Speaker 1: they lose and then they keep going and eventually they win.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And when you have a purposeful mindset, Joseph, you know
- 23:22Speaker 1: what he was in prison? He's like, all right, he
- 23:25Speaker 1: had that. You know, people attribute it to Jocko the
- 23:28Speaker 1: good mentality, but you know what it is. That's James
- 23:31Speaker 1: Chapter one that you consider a joy when you face
- 23:33Speaker 1: struggles of many kinds, because this is an opportunity for
- 23:35Speaker 1: my endurance to grow in mind. When my endurance is complete,
- 23:38Speaker 1: I'll be mature and lacking nothing. Joseph just knew he
- 23:41Speaker 1: was in the training program that is purposeful living. And
- 23:44Speaker 1: then the third.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Piece on real quick, I want to pause you because
- 23:47Speaker 3: you said something that I want to make sure people capture.
- 23:50Speaker 3: We've said it before, but I'm going to just be
- 23:52Speaker 3: very clear. We love Proverbs three, five and six for purpose,
- 23:55Speaker 3: which is trust in the Lord with all your heart,
- 23:57Speaker 3: lean not on your own understanding in all your ways,
- 24:01Speaker 3: acknowledge him and he will direct your paths. We love
- 24:03Speaker 3: that Scripture is the purpose formula. What Garrett said about
- 24:08Speaker 3: how you will you will live purposely aka when you
- 24:11Speaker 3: if you know it, Like when you were on mission,
- 24:13Speaker 3: there was nothing that was like a small thing. Everything
- 24:16Speaker 3: mattered because you knew that that you were on mission.
- 24:19Speaker 3: And what you just said is like a lot of
- 24:21Speaker 3: times because we don't we're waiting for God, and you said,
- 24:22Speaker 3: it's not God going okay, here's your assignment and delivering
- 24:25Speaker 3: papers to you, which is what we want. We want
- 24:27Speaker 3: to know. And I think that's where people struggle with
- 24:30Speaker 3: purpose so hard as they're like, I hate what I'm
- 24:32Speaker 3: doing right now, and so I'm going to give a
- 24:33Speaker 3: half effort because like this is clearly what I'm not
- 24:37Speaker 3: meant to do, which is really like if God showed
- 24:39Speaker 3: up and said this is what you're meant to do,
- 24:40Speaker 3: would you would it suddenly flip you and you would
- 24:42Speaker 3: be you know, you'd give one hundred percent. I don't
- 24:44Speaker 3: know that you would. But it's that need to know
- 24:46Speaker 3: that keeps people from living purposely, and they don't understand
- 24:49Speaker 3: that when you live purposely, it's amazing how the doors
- 24:52Speaker 3: open up and how the dots start to connect and
- 24:54Speaker 3: God brings you to your hand.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Now you've got to actually live like God has a
- 24:57Speaker 1: plan for your life. This is okay, it matter. I
- 25:00Speaker 1: have one of the best stories of this is David. Okay.
- 25:02Speaker 1: So Samuel annoints David and he, you know, he's like, Okay,
- 25:06Speaker 1: God's chosen you as king. He didn't say You're gonna
- 25:08Speaker 1: sit on the throne tomorrow, right, he just said God's
- 25:11Speaker 1: annointed jus king. What does that mean? See you later? Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 1: go back out those keep what you're doing. And then
- 25:18Speaker 1: this is this is like, this is purposeful living. This
- 25:22Speaker 1: is Garrett what Garrett calls hard dog mindset. Okay, David
- 25:27Speaker 1: was a hard dog. David's you know why. You know
- 25:29Speaker 1: why David was also not because the text says the
- 25:33Speaker 1: way that God was with me when I face the
- 25:35Speaker 1: lions and bears, He'll be with me today. That's what
- 25:38Speaker 1: the text says. But also when David's facing Goliath, he said,
- 25:42Speaker 1: I've been anointed as king. Right, one of us is
- 25:46Speaker 1: going to die today and it's not me. I've been
- 25:48Speaker 1: anointed as king. This is understanding. God is a plan
- 25:51Speaker 1: for my life. You know, Christians might start saying like, well,
- 25:55Speaker 1: maybe God just meant like, maybe I'm not actually he
- 25:58Speaker 1: anointed me as king. He wants me to be king,
- 26:00Speaker 1: but then he's gonna sacrifice me as king, and maybe
- 26:02Speaker 1: I'm not actually supposed to sit on the throne. And
- 26:04Speaker 1: you start gaming it all out and you're like, well,
- 26:05Speaker 1: maybe maybe God doesn't actually care. Maybe God's not really
- 26:08Speaker 1: paying attention, and I have to defend from my own life,
- 26:11Speaker 1: right And Okay, so I'm gonna go I gotta get saw. Okay,
- 26:15Speaker 1: here's what's supposed to happen. We'll all go on in
- 26:17Speaker 1: the battle fill together and we'll get Saul to sacrifice himself, right,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and he'll die fighting Goliath, and then he'll be weak
- 26:25Speaker 1: and I'll kill him and then I'll be the king. Right.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna make it happen because God said it well,
- 26:30Speaker 3: and he had the opportunity. I think that's what's so telling,
- 26:32Speaker 3: is that he actually had the opportunity to kill him,
- 26:34Speaker 3: and he like in case you can think, oh, Garrett,
- 26:37Speaker 3: cool story. You see what Garrett said is verbatim from
- 26:40Speaker 3: the scripture. I'm failing on the reference, but I think
- 26:42Speaker 3: it's the second time he's allowed to kill him, or
- 26:44Speaker 3: when they're in when they're when he takes the spear
- 26:46Speaker 3: from by his head because they all fell into a
- 26:48Speaker 3: deep sleep. His I think it's I can't. I want
- 26:50Speaker 3: to say, it's like Abishi or somebody something with an
- 26:52Speaker 3: a wants to kill him, and he says no. He says,
- 26:55Speaker 3: because whether he dies of old age, whether an enemy
- 26:57Speaker 3: takes him, or something else, God will.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Make the way. Yeah.
- 27:01Speaker 3: And I mean, I remember when I read that, I
- 27:02Speaker 3: was like this dude, like he was and he would
- 27:05Speaker 3: not make it happen. That is purposeful living. Yeah, because
- 27:09Speaker 3: he's saying, like I even I could, but in this
- 27:13Speaker 3: being annoyed, God anointed me king while there was another king,
- 27:17Speaker 3: and so if he wanted Saul to die the day
- 27:19Speaker 3: after I was anointed, he would have. Yeah, it's full trust.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And that's why that's why I wanted to emphasize when
- 27:24Speaker 3: you said purposeful living. Look, wherever you're at, whether you
- 27:27Speaker 3: love it, whether you hate it, you have to trust
- 27:30Speaker 3: that if God is sovereign and you're responsible, your responsibility
- 27:33Speaker 3: in this situation is to do things as unto the Lord,
- 27:36Speaker 3: which means all out, which means to bring his excellence
- 27:39Speaker 3: in his glory, and to give everything you got, not
- 27:41Speaker 3: because you think you're going to get the reward that, oh,
- 27:43Speaker 3: then I'm gonna get a promotion or whatever you think
- 27:45Speaker 3: would be good that would come from that, but because
- 27:47Speaker 3: God's put you on the earth to display his glory,
- 27:49Speaker 3: and because and from a place of obedience to say, Lord,
- 27:51Speaker 3: I'm going to give everything I got because I trust you.
- 27:53Speaker 3: It's amazing what will happen in your heart when you
- 27:55Speaker 3: do that.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So the third superpower here when you talk about purpose forever,
- 27:58Speaker 1: we love. We're talking about we love it impossible life.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Third piece here of this just superpower combination. This is
- 28:05Speaker 1: faith in God and many of the most powerful things
- 28:11Speaker 1: in scripture you can tie into stuff that Christ specifically said. Right.
- 28:17Speaker 1: You can anchor a lot of these themes, and there's
- 28:19Speaker 1: a lot of when you look at the illustrations of
- 28:21Speaker 1: how scripture is tied together, they're tied to prophecies of Christ,
- 28:25Speaker 1: and then they are tied to things Christ actually said.
- 28:29Speaker 1: And one of the things that Christ said that is
- 28:30Speaker 1: in this is principle of the universe. The universe bends
- 28:35Speaker 1: hinges around this. He who seeks to gain his life
- 28:39Speaker 1: will lose it, and he who seeks to give his
- 28:41Speaker 1: life will gain his life. When you chase, when you pursue,
- 28:45Speaker 1: when you try to take control, and we're going to
- 28:46Speaker 1: come back to this in leadership here in a second,
- 28:48Speaker 1: when you try to take control, you do the opposite
- 28:51Speaker 1: of control, because God is the one who's in control,
- 28:55Speaker 1: and anytime that you're trying to control something like full
- 28:58Speaker 1: control is actually a form of rebellion against God because
- 29:02Speaker 1: he's the one who's in control. The exact same thing
- 29:04Speaker 1: we did in the garden, where God say I have
- 29:07Speaker 1: already defined what's right and what's wrong. When you eat
- 29:10Speaker 1: of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,
- 29:12Speaker 1: now you've said, well, now I know, and I'll decide.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Now it wasn't the tree of make you sin. It
- 29:19Speaker 1: was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And
- 29:22Speaker 1: now instead of God saying what's right or wrong, I'll
- 29:25Speaker 1: decide what's right and wrong. And that it is the
- 29:28Speaker 1: foundation of sin, is rebellion against God. And we're trying
- 29:31Speaker 1: to control things. We're saying God must not be in control,
- 29:33Speaker 1: or his control is wrong and mine's better. So faith
- 29:37Speaker 1: in God. When you're chasing after making money, like one
- 29:40Speaker 1: of the things that I've seen. When people say they
- 29:44Speaker 1: have integrity, Okay, everybody would like to believe they have
- 29:47Speaker 1: integrity until it costs you something. When integrity costs you something,
- 29:53Speaker 1: then that's really the test of your integrity. But if
- 29:56Speaker 1: you believe God is a plan for your life and
- 29:58Speaker 1: you trust him and you have faith full obedience towards him,
- 30:01Speaker 1: this is the superpower. Okay. You can look at a
- 30:04Speaker 1: situation and say, yep, I'm gonna tell the truth here
- 30:06Speaker 1: and it's gonna pull my wallet gets smaller. Okay, my
- 30:08Speaker 1: wallet's about to get smaller when I tell the truth here. However,
- 30:11Speaker 1: when you know God is a plan for you and
- 30:13Speaker 1: you trust him, you know he's also the one who's
- 30:15Speaker 1: in control of mine and everything. You know what He
- 30:17Speaker 1: can do the same way, just like when my kids
- 30:21Speaker 1: they do the right thing and it costs him something,
- 30:23Speaker 1: they get rewarded for it. Right now, God is not
- 30:26Speaker 1: as menial of a father as I am. But I
- 30:29Speaker 1: know God's watching me. I know God sees my heart,
- 30:32Speaker 1: and I know God's gonna bless me, and I know
- 30:34Speaker 1: the opposite of what will happen is if I say,
- 30:37Speaker 1: you know God, I know you want I know you
- 30:39Speaker 1: want me to tell the truth. I also know you
- 30:41Speaker 1: want to bless me. I'm not gonna tell the truth
- 30:43Speaker 1: here because I need to keep my wallet the size
- 30:45Speaker 1: that it is. And then me and you will kind
- 30:47Speaker 1: of will square it off in the back end and
- 30:49Speaker 1: we'll work out how to for me to be good
- 30:51Speaker 1: again and me to still be the son that you're
- 30:53Speaker 1: proud of. When you do that, God's like, fine, you go.
- 30:56Speaker 1: You don't need me, You do it yourself. You want
- 30:59Speaker 1: to operate with God on your team where it's like God,
- 31:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna this is like in football. I can't make
- 31:06Speaker 1: the soccer analogy, but like in football, you go take
- 31:08Speaker 1: the hit and it's like you're gonna get decimated, but
- 31:11Speaker 1: this is what makes the play, makes the play right.
- 31:15Speaker 1: And then and then you know, it's not about being right,
- 31:17Speaker 1: it's about getting it right. The team's gonna score and
- 31:20Speaker 1: we all win. And I'm on God's team and so
- 31:22Speaker 1: you know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go make
- 31:24Speaker 1: the play and may have to sacrifice my body for
- 31:27Speaker 1: a moment to make the play.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Sacrifice the body.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Everybody knows that term you played football, you need the term.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna make the play and then we're gonna win. Yeah.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And so this, this is having trust in God's outcomes
- 31:38Speaker 1: better than your ability to control things. This isn't me
- 31:41Speaker 1: trying to trick you or hack you into biblical obedience.
- 31:44Speaker 1: What I'm telling you is that this is a better
- 31:47Speaker 1: play than you saying I don't like that play because
- 31:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Get hit right, Yeah, it works better.
- 31:53Speaker 1: These are the superpowers. Now, if you don't actually trust
- 31:55Speaker 1: in God, this is very hard for you. But I
- 31:58Speaker 1: will tell you You've got to learn how to play on
- 32:00Speaker 1: God's team and then just like man, we just keep winning. Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 3: So I just wanted to so eternal mindset, purpose and
- 32:06Speaker 3: faith in God those are the superpower combination. And understand
- 32:10Speaker 3: that the way we're talking about these is so practical
- 32:13Speaker 3: an application because I think a lot of people would
- 32:15Speaker 3: agree with what we just said. But if you looked
- 32:17Speaker 3: at their life when it gets like you said, until
- 32:19Speaker 3: it cost them something, there's all sorts of stuff that's
- 32:22Speaker 3: screaming at you when you're in those situations that distorts
- 32:25Speaker 3: your vision.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Everybody's on God's team when God is, you know, sending
- 32:28Speaker 1: the disease and the locusts on the Egyptian. Sure, but
- 32:32Speaker 1: then it's like, hey, now you go kill some giants,
- 32:34Speaker 1: will yeah?
- 32:35Speaker 3: Or you get out there, like, hey, these snakes are
- 32:36Speaker 3: biting us, and he doesn't take the snakes away. He
- 32:39Speaker 3: just says, hey, look at this, and you won't die
- 32:40Speaker 3: from the poison. Yeah, you know what I mean. It's like,
- 32:42Speaker 3: but why can't you just get the snakes out of here?
- 32:45Speaker 3: He could, but he's chosen, you know what I mean. Like,
- 32:47Speaker 3: it's I don't understand that.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Good.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Okay, guess what you're getting some trust developed and you
- 32:51Speaker 3: God's developed such a good reference. Well it's a great one.
- 32:55Speaker 1: So do you? I mean you said it.
- 32:56Speaker 3: The underlying question that we have to answer is do
- 32:59Speaker 3: we really believe is in control? Because what you said
- 33:02Speaker 3: about this sacrifice the body is such a good analogy
- 33:04Speaker 3: because part of that is like we are going to
- 33:07Speaker 3: encounter injustice and does God allow injustice? Because like I'm
- 33:11Speaker 3: looking at this and this does not seem like it's
- 33:13Speaker 3: working out for me.
- 33:14Speaker 1: This is a bin brain bender. We won't spend a
- 33:18Speaker 1: ton of time here. This is something we'll revisit, but
- 33:21Speaker 1: you've got to understand how God's justice works, right, Okay?
- 33:25Speaker 1: Man is so short term focused, and this is why
- 33:28Speaker 1: the superpowers is like, hey, this is helping you be
- 33:31Speaker 1: like God. All right, that's what the superpowers are. It's like, man,
- 33:33Speaker 1: I'm acting more like God than I am like man.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Man's way is I got to make sure that I'm
- 33:38Speaker 1: taken care of and then we'll figure out the rest
- 33:40Speaker 1: of the stuff. I've watched men live their lives this
- 33:43Speaker 1: way where they're like, well, I'm going to do marriage wrong,
- 33:45Speaker 1: I'm going to do money wrong. I'm gonna you know,
- 33:48Speaker 1: I'll do all these things wrong. And then like, well,
- 33:51Speaker 1: and then once I get the money, and once I
- 33:53Speaker 1: marry the girl, and then once you know my business
- 33:56Speaker 1: is successful, then I'll start doing everything the right way. Right,
- 33:59Speaker 1: this is man's way of doing things, and you get
- 34:02Speaker 1: the consequences of sin. Let me get what I think
- 34:04Speaker 1: is right first, and then we'll fix all the stuff later. Okay,
- 34:08Speaker 1: this is God's way of doing things. God's way of
- 34:10Speaker 1: doing things is well, the wages of sin is death,
- 34:13Speaker 1: and I will send my son Christ and he'll die.
- 34:16Speaker 1: He'll actually die. We're we're not going to we're not
- 34:21Speaker 1: going to change the plan. We're not going to over
- 34:23Speaker 1: control for things. Then God takes those consequences and he
- 34:27Speaker 1: transforms them into righteousness. At the end, God, we are
- 34:31Speaker 1: I want the results now, I want the reward now,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and then we end up with brokenness and sin in
- 34:36Speaker 1: the end that we can't fix. God says, this is
- 34:39Speaker 1: my law and this is my structure, and where this
- 34:42Speaker 1: law results in a wrong outcome, that's what I will fix.
- 34:45Speaker 1: But I won't break my law. Okay. And so God,
- 34:48Speaker 1: God goes through all the right process and then this
- 34:51Speaker 1: is you know, the majority of our lives. God's developing
- 34:54Speaker 1: you nine to nine percent of the time, and the
- 34:55Speaker 1: greatness of the reward the way he uses you is
- 34:57Speaker 1: one percent of the time. This is the ultimate transformation story.
- 35:01Speaker 1: You've got to understand that when you are submitting to
- 35:04Speaker 1: God's justice, it's probably going to feel uncomfortable, uncomfortable for
- 35:08Speaker 1: a long period of time. But you've got to let
- 35:11Speaker 1: him do his work because he's telling a story, He's
- 35:14Speaker 1: doing a work in your life. But God is an
- 35:16Speaker 1: entirely just God. Now, if you freeze frame the day
- 35:21Speaker 1: after Christ died, you would think God is not a
- 35:23Speaker 1: just God. Give him time, let him do what he's doing.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And this is what we do. We're the people who
- 35:29Speaker 1: pull Christ off the cross becers are like, well, you
- 35:32Speaker 1: can't kill him because then it's over. Yeah, we do
- 35:35Speaker 1: that all the time. So you've got to truly trust
- 35:39Speaker 1: in God and understand that he's just, and sometimes to
- 35:42Speaker 1: see the full picture, you just got to zoom out.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's taking him out his word, because there's
- 35:47Speaker 3: lots of places where you'll hear people say like, how
- 35:49Speaker 3: could a just God allow X Y Z, And they'll
- 35:51Speaker 3: insert that.
- 35:52Speaker 1: And it's exactly what you just said.
- 35:54Speaker 3: If you freeze fame right now, you're right man, Like,
- 35:56Speaker 3: oh man, you draw the conclusion. But we are living
- 36:00Speaker 3: in an eternal timeframe, which means that most of what
- 36:04Speaker 3: is actually to be we don't even see it. So
- 36:07Speaker 3: and that takes humility, that takes trust, that takes submission,
- 36:10Speaker 3: It takes understanding who you are, that we are like
- 36:12Speaker 3: the little Aunt and God is the creator of the universe.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Let's transition into leadership. Yeah, and I would just want
- 36:21Speaker 1: to say this before we get into we're going to
- 36:23Speaker 1: talk about three leadership killers and how having the superpowers
- 36:26Speaker 1: living a transformed life helps you not kill your leadership.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Okay, but this is one of my favorite understandings of leadership.
- 36:35Speaker 1: This is again, if you want to learn how to
- 36:37Speaker 1: be a great leader, read the Bible. Yeah, right, and yeah,
- 36:40Speaker 1: there's there's You can get some wisdom from Proverbs and
- 36:42Speaker 1: you can learn how to you know, not break the
- 36:44Speaker 1: ten commandments in the Bible. That's not the part that
- 36:46Speaker 1: I'm talking about. Christ is the greatest leader who ever lived.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Whether you believe he's the son of God who lived
- 36:52Speaker 1: a perfect life and died for your sins and rose
- 36:54Speaker 1: again or not. Whether you believe that or not, he's
- 36:57Speaker 1: had more influence than any human who's ever walk the earth. Hey,
- 37:01Speaker 1: there's great leadership lessons here. The best leadership lesson I
- 37:04Speaker 1: think that's in the Bible is that leadership is a choice. Hey, understand,
- 37:09Speaker 1: God's perfect. God has all measure power and ability to
- 37:14Speaker 1: control us. Yet he didn't because that's a part of
- 37:18Speaker 1: that's the love piece. Right, I'm going to give you
- 37:21Speaker 1: a choice. I want you to want to follow me,
- 37:23Speaker 1: kind of like Eisenhower's definition of leadership. Leadership is getting
- 37:27Speaker 1: people to do what you want when you want them
- 37:29Speaker 1: to do it, and they want to do it. And
- 37:31Speaker 1: you cannot make anybody want to do something. You have
- 37:34Speaker 1: to do this it's My wife made it really simple
- 37:37Speaker 1: for me. She said, I think you're a great leader
- 37:40Speaker 1: because you make the wrong things seem stupid right, And
- 37:42Speaker 1: that's what God does for us. He says. Look, I'm
- 37:44Speaker 1: going to show you the promise. I'm going to show
- 37:46Speaker 1: you the greatness. I'm also going to help you understand.
- 37:49Speaker 1: You'll figure it out some on your own, but I'm
- 37:50Speaker 1: also going to help you understand how doing it your
- 37:52Speaker 1: way the consequences of sin is death. Here's what you
- 37:54Speaker 1: should do, is you just follow me. Do this. Here's
- 37:59Speaker 1: the caveat. You might have to trust me. You're gonna
- 38:02Speaker 1: have to trust me, however I will. I will make
- 38:05Speaker 1: that gap as small as I can for you that
- 38:08Speaker 1: I'm not asking you to trust me for forever, because
- 38:10Speaker 1: once you trust me a little bit, you'll see me
- 38:12Speaker 1: and you'll experience me exactly and that'll give you enough
- 38:14Speaker 1: trust for the next step. And that'll give you enough
- 38:16Speaker 1: trust for the next step. But leadership is a choice.
- 38:19Speaker 1: It is the hero's journey in life that you would
- 38:23Speaker 1: take a step of faith, that you would just just move,
- 38:26Speaker 1: just take one step from where you are. And this
- 38:29Speaker 1: is leadership. Leadership is constantly putting yourself in a position
- 38:33Speaker 1: of I have cared for you, I have love in
- 38:36Speaker 1: my heart for you. I'm gonna do all that I
- 38:38Speaker 1: can to protect you. And here's what I believe is right.
- 38:41Speaker 1: I'm going to make it as simple for you as
- 38:42Speaker 1: I can. There's a part that you're gonna have to play.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Will you trust me? Will you follow me? Will you
- 38:46Speaker 1: play your part? Leadership is a choice. You can't make
- 38:49Speaker 1: your wife be a certain way, you can't make your
- 38:51Speaker 1: business partners be a certain way. But you can do
- 38:54Speaker 1: everything you can to make the right choice seem easy
- 38:57Speaker 1: and the wrong choice seem stupid.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Very good man, so good, all right, gee, So let's
- 39:01Speaker 3: go to the three leadership killers. And man number one
- 39:05Speaker 3: is an absolute doozy.
- 39:07Speaker 1: This will murder your leadership insecurity. When you need the
- 39:12Speaker 1: people around you to like you and to praise you
- 39:16Speaker 1: for what you're doing, you're needy. And I have talked
- 39:20Speaker 1: about as a man and as a leader, one of
- 39:22Speaker 1: the best things you can be is low needs. When
- 39:25Speaker 1: you need people to affirm you. We need when you
- 39:28Speaker 1: when you need people to help you feel good about you.
- 39:32Speaker 1: If you don't feel it, It's like, if you don't
- 39:34Speaker 1: trust you, why should we trust you. If you don't
- 39:36Speaker 1: feel good about yourself, why should we feel good about you?
- 39:39Speaker 1: And it is also that dichotomy if he who seeks
- 39:41Speaker 1: to gain his life will lose it. When you need
- 39:44Speaker 1: something from people, they're very stingy to give it to you.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Banks don't lend money to people who need money. Banks
- 39:51Speaker 1: give money to people. It's like, man, I think guys
- 39:52Speaker 1: don't need any money.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Sure, here's you'll lend them somebody.
- 39:56Speaker 1: There is a dichotomy here. And when you are in
- 40:00Speaker 1: cure as a leader, meaning you you don't have a
- 40:04Speaker 1: sense of identity and purpose that helps you feel great
- 40:07Speaker 1: in the midst of struggle, discouragement, people shouting you down
- 40:13Speaker 1: that you can't feel good in the midst of that,
- 40:15Speaker 1: then people are going to struggle to follow you because
- 40:18Speaker 1: you can simplify leadership into strength and warmth. Right, do
- 40:22Speaker 1: you care about me? And are you capable? And if
- 40:25Speaker 1: how people feel about you hurts your strength, you might
- 40:27Speaker 1: not be the strong leader that I want to follow.
- 40:30Speaker 1: But when you are someone who's it's a dichotomy right
- 40:34Speaker 1: to be someone who's like, I don't care what you
- 40:36Speaker 1: guys think about me, but I have so much care
- 40:39Speaker 1: for you. It's hard to be both of those things
- 40:41Speaker 1: at the same time because strength is like, I don't care,
- 40:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna do whatever I want right, and I can
- 40:46Speaker 1: do it whatever I want. That's what strength, raw strength
- 40:49Speaker 1: feels like. And then love is, well, you know, I
- 40:51Speaker 1: love you guys, and I want you guys to love
- 40:53Speaker 1: me too, And when you can be both at the
- 40:55Speaker 1: same time, like I care about you, but I don't
- 40:57Speaker 1: need you to love me. I love you. This is
- 40:59Speaker 1: God by the way I love you, I don't need
- 41:01Speaker 1: you to love me. I'd really like that you did right.
- 41:03Speaker 1: If you follow me, it would be better for you.
- 41:06Speaker 1: That's what leadership looks like. And so insecurity will crush
- 41:09Speaker 1: your leadership. The transformation switch here, right, This is us
- 41:14Speaker 1: leading like God is such an a It's a confident
- 41:17Speaker 1: ability that your ability to lead other people doesn't require
- 41:21Speaker 1: people to believe in you. Don't be a Santa Claus leader. Yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 1: or it's like the only all the power I have
- 41:26Speaker 1: is from when you lead me. But think about Christ
- 41:29Speaker 1: the moment he's on the cross. Yeah, it might have
- 41:31Speaker 1: felt like nobody actually believed in it in the moment
- 41:34Speaker 1: of it. Yeah, it is the moment of his greatest power, right, yeah,
- 41:37Speaker 1: and why because he knew what he could do. He
- 41:40Speaker 1: knew what he could do, and he's like, it's okay,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'm here for you. I didn't come here for you
- 41:45Speaker 1: to give something to me.
- 41:46Speaker 3: The term you used when we were talking about transformation
- 41:48Speaker 3: was you said confident humility. Yeah, and I think that
- 41:51Speaker 3: that's for a lot of people that would be an oxymoron.
- 41:53Speaker 3: It's like it is, it's a both right. But yeah,
- 41:56Speaker 3: but think about that. And this scripture is so perfect
- 41:58Speaker 3: for John thirteen three through four. It says Jesus knew
- 42:01Speaker 3: that the Father had put all things under his power,
- 42:03Speaker 3: and that he had come from God and he was
- 42:05Speaker 3: returning to God. What does that sound like? Sounds like
- 42:07Speaker 3: a man who knows who he is.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Yep.
- 42:09Speaker 3: So he got up from the meal, took off his
- 42:11Speaker 3: outer clothing, and wrapped the towel around his waist. This
- 42:13Speaker 3: is when he washes the disciples feet. And I think
- 42:16Speaker 3: it's amazing that they make the point that because he
- 42:19Speaker 3: knew who he was, why he was there, and where
- 42:21Speaker 3: he was going, he was able to do that. And
- 42:23Speaker 3: that's exactly what you're saying, Like, this is not insecurity.
- 42:26Speaker 3: This is the opposite. This is confident humility. It's like,
- 42:28Speaker 3: because I don't need you to like because this was
- 42:30Speaker 3: basically a servant. This is saying, you know what, I'm
- 42:32Speaker 3: gonna go ahead and be the janitor in the organization.
- 42:34Speaker 3: It's like, wait, no, no, no, no, You're like you're
- 42:36Speaker 3: Elon Musk, You're the CEO. You're like, you're this genius.
- 42:39Speaker 3: It's like, I already know who I am. I don't
- 42:41Speaker 3: need you guys to have me in a certain seat
- 42:44Speaker 3: or to have a title on me.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I can also I'll just bend this really really quick
- 42:48Speaker 1: for a second of insecurity to some of our athletes, Yes,
- 42:51Speaker 1: say athletes, the man who has the power to take
- 42:54Speaker 1: the crown is not afraid to take it off, right.
- 42:57Speaker 1: The man who has the power to take the crown
- 42:59Speaker 1: isn't afraid to take it off. Now. The man who
- 43:01Speaker 1: thinks he only came upon the crown through time and
- 43:04Speaker 1: chance and that will defend it with his life. Yeah,
- 43:06Speaker 1: because if you took this from me, I could never
- 43:08Speaker 1: get it back. Very good, And this is what athletes
- 43:11Speaker 1: with their confidence can feel like. Sometimes what turns which
- 43:14Speaker 1: turns into like arrogance and insecurity. I will fight against
- 43:17Speaker 1: anything that makes me feel like I know how to
- 43:20Speaker 1: hit the ball or I'm a good athlete, because I'm
- 43:23Speaker 1: not actually sure that I am. Yeah.
- 43:25Speaker 3: This reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger and pumping iron. And
- 43:28Speaker 3: he's laying there and they're going, Arnold, aren't you work
- 43:30Speaker 3: Like they're talking, they're like, when you're at the top
- 43:32Speaker 3: of the mountain, everybody's trying to come and take the
- 43:34Speaker 3: food off your table, aren't you aren't you? Like does
- 43:36Speaker 3: that make it harder? And he goes, he goes, you
- 43:38Speaker 3: know what's great about being at the top of the
- 43:40Speaker 3: mountain When you want to eat, it's there, And what
- 43:43Speaker 3: he's saying is exactly what you said. He's like, I
- 43:45Speaker 3: already know how to get here. Yeah, And so like
- 43:47Speaker 3: when I want to eat, it's not a matter of
- 43:49Speaker 3: like what if somebody else comes, It's like, dude, I
- 43:50Speaker 3: know what I'm doing. Yeah, And that is that is
- 43:52Speaker 3: at a great analogy.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Gee, it's the confident humility. So number two here these
- 43:59Speaker 1: are leadership killers, okay, And this is where the faith
- 44:03Speaker 1: in God, the supernatural power that God has given you,
- 44:06Speaker 1: if you'll follow him all the way, if you'll be transformed.
- 44:09Speaker 1: This is what'll undo and show you the better side
- 44:12Speaker 1: of that weakness. Because this is understanding, like God has
- 44:15Speaker 1: put strength in you, and sin will turn that strength
- 44:18Speaker 1: into arrogance. But when you are living a transformed life,
- 44:21Speaker 1: it turns that strength into righteousness. God's justice is perfect.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I want to roll on the perfect justice. I don't
- 44:27Speaker 1: want to roll on Garrett Justice. Okay. So number two
- 44:31Speaker 1: leadership killer lack of emotional control. Your emotional outbursts, whatever
- 44:38Speaker 1: they are, anger, frustration, or you know. Some people hide
- 44:41Speaker 1: their emotion in a different way, which is certainly annoying
- 44:44Speaker 1: when people have the feelings and they will throw the
- 44:48Speaker 1: side comments but not share their feelings, just share all
- 44:51Speaker 1: the fruit of their dark feelings, which, however you choose
- 44:54Speaker 1: to show your emotion. A lack of emotional control makes
- 44:58Speaker 1: you unpredictable, makes you untrustworthy. Okay. This is one of
- 45:03Speaker 1: the hallmarks of a great leader. When I go and
- 45:06Speaker 1: examine leaders and I talk to their people, I can
- 45:09Speaker 1: tell you the quality of a person's leadership before I've
- 45:11Speaker 1: ever met them by talking to their people. Because good
- 45:15Speaker 1: leaders have an environment where the people who follow them
- 45:17Speaker 1: know what they would do right, where people say, oh,
- 45:21Speaker 1: this is what Garrett would say, this is already. I
- 45:23Speaker 1: don't need to ask Grett. I know what he's going
- 45:24Speaker 1: to say. I don't need to ask her, and I
- 45:25Speaker 1: know what he's going to do. That's predictable leadership. The
- 45:28Speaker 1: opposite where it's like I don't know if today's a
- 45:31Speaker 1: good day to ask him. That's the opposite of good leadership.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Let's wait for another time. I don't think we like
- 45:37Speaker 1: if you had, like if you are a great king,
- 45:40Speaker 1: people could know Godfather reference, I could come to you
- 45:44Speaker 1: on the day of your daughter's wedding and I'm going
- 45:46Speaker 1: to get the same response as if we were playing
- 45:48Speaker 1: golf or whatever it was. Because you are not governed
- 45:51Speaker 1: by circumstance, that is a great leader. But when you
- 45:55Speaker 1: are governed by your emotions, any sense of injustice, right,
- 45:59Speaker 1: this is you live in it your way versus God's way,
- 46:02Speaker 1: because that's what all emotion is. Emotion is like, well
- 46:05Speaker 1: this was wrong, and I gotta I don't know how
- 46:07Speaker 1: to process it. I'm just to let all these emotions out.
- 46:09Speaker 1: You are frustrated by not being on the same frequency
- 46:13Speaker 1: as God. God's like, hey, I've already got all this God.
- 46:16Speaker 1: God doesn't have emotional outbursts. Okay, we do when we're
- 46:21Speaker 1: not understanding God's plan, when we don't trust his justice,
- 46:25Speaker 1: and then it turns into well, today's a good day
- 46:28Speaker 1: or today's a bad day. Well, that's why one of
- 46:30Speaker 1: my core values is positive attitude, right, which rich reflects this.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I'm going to see greatness in every opportunity. I'm going
- 46:35Speaker 1: to see greatness every single day. I'm not going to
- 46:37Speaker 1: be governed by circumstance. I will act the same whether
- 46:41Speaker 1: it's a quote unquote good day or a quote unquote
- 46:44Speaker 1: bad day. When you have no emotional control, people will
- 46:48Speaker 1: struggle to follow you because you're like, yeah, you know,
- 46:51Speaker 1: sometimes he's great, but you are a pitcher that's hiding
- 46:55Speaker 1: a heroin habit. It's like, well, we don't know what's
- 46:57Speaker 1: going to happen tomorrow, right, yeah, you know it's in
- 47:00Speaker 1: my shame. We were talking about this, man. I remember
- 47:02Speaker 1: whenever I was not serving God and I was at
- 47:04Speaker 1: my worst for my wife. I knew that she was
- 47:07Speaker 1: doing this and it would annoy me. It's not to
- 47:09Speaker 1: your shame, it's to God's glory.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Very good, well done, yeah, well done, you're right gee,
- 47:14Speaker 3: But like, man, I just remember my wife would come
- 47:16Speaker 3: and kind of be like hey, and like she would
- 47:17Speaker 3: basically be saying, like checking in to see which version
- 47:19Speaker 3: of her husband she was going to get that.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yeah, she was saying, is it a good time? Right?
- 47:23Speaker 3: And that is the worst thing, man case. Yeah, it
- 47:26Speaker 3: is the worst thing. And the transformed version is obviously
- 47:28Speaker 3: a self controlled, consistent person, and like, what's amazing? Gee,
- 47:33Speaker 3: Consistency is the number one ingredient for all long term success,
- 47:37Speaker 3: is what Pastor Keith has said.
- 47:38Speaker 1: That's one of his leadershipologies on thousand percent. Stand on
- 47:40Speaker 1: that one. Whether it's a happy relationship with your spouse
- 47:44Speaker 1: or a successful business or anything else. Consistency is the
- 47:47Speaker 1: core ingredient. And it's who God is, right, you know,
- 47:49Speaker 1: he doesn't love us ninety nine percent of the time.
- 47:52Speaker 1: He doesn't His salvation doesn't work ninety nine percent of
- 47:55Speaker 1: the time. He is who he is from the beginning
- 47:58Speaker 1: to the end. He'll always me the same thing, never changes.
- 48:01Speaker 1: That is the immortal quality of God as his consistency. Yeah.
- 48:06Speaker 3: And so I mean we're talking about this superpower. Listen
- 48:08Speaker 3: to this, so Galatians five nineteen through twenty one, because
- 48:10Speaker 3: we talked about a lack of emotional control. This is
- 48:13Speaker 3: the acts of the flesh. The acts of the flesh
- 48:15Speaker 3: are obvious. Okay, sexual morality, impurity, and debauchery. First things,
- 48:20Speaker 3: it comes up pretty obvious. Idolatry and witchcraft. Man, those
- 48:23Speaker 3: are also obvious. Now listen to where this let this
- 48:25Speaker 3: list turns. What takes a hard left in our own minds? Okay,
- 48:29Speaker 3: sexual morality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, and witchcraft. And how dare
- 48:32Speaker 3: they do that?
- 48:33Speaker 1: Hatred?
- 48:34Speaker 3: Ooh, well, that's a tough one because there's these people
- 48:36Speaker 3: that disagree with me, discord. Wait what you mean, jealousy,
- 48:40Speaker 3: fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions. Oh, man, like
- 48:46Speaker 3: that nails so much. I mean, that's what we're talking about.
- 48:49Speaker 3: Fits of rage, envy, drunkeness, orgies, and the like. I
- 48:51Speaker 3: warn you, as I did before, that those who live
- 48:54Speaker 3: like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. I
- 48:57Speaker 3: hope that puts a massive emphasis. We're not just saying, hey,
- 49:00Speaker 3: you should have emotional control because it'll make your marriage better.
- 49:03Speaker 1: This is literally everyone. He'd be like, oh yeah, idolatry, witchcraft, Yeah,
- 49:08Speaker 1: those seem hard morality right next to that, fits of rage,
- 49:12Speaker 1: selfish ambition, dissension, Like where me just disagreements? Yea, right
- 49:17Speaker 1: there next to drunkenness and orgies. Yeah, exactly. I love it.
- 49:22Speaker 1: I love that they're sandwiched in too.
- 49:24Speaker 2: For real.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Starts with sexual morality, impurity, and debauchery, got it, Okay,
- 49:29Speaker 1: those things are terrible, idolatry and witchcraft nasty, yeah, but
- 49:33Speaker 1: then in the middle hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish, ambition, dissension, factions,
- 49:38Speaker 1: an envy, dang it, and then and drunkenness and orgies. Yeah.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Because I'm sitting there going like, okay, great, check check,
- 49:46Speaker 3: no idols, no witchcraft, no, uh you know, sexual immorality.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Yet it's it's a drunk air quotes here, bad sin, sandwich,
- 49:53Speaker 1: put the bad sins on the end, exactly.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Stuff that, right, But then you get to the million
- 49:58Speaker 3: You're like, oh, dang it, because but that's what we're saying,
- 50:01Speaker 3: and like, look that those who live like this will
- 50:04Speaker 3: not inherit the kingdom of God. Man, I hope, and
- 50:07Speaker 3: this goes back to eternal mindset. I hope you remember
- 50:10Speaker 3: that one day you have to stand before God and
- 50:13Speaker 3: give an account for your life. And the worst thing
- 50:15Speaker 3: you could hear is away from me. I never knew you.
- 50:17Speaker 1: The thought of that breaks, that never knew you, that
- 50:21Speaker 1: never knew you, isn't you didn't know about me. It
- 50:23Speaker 1: isn't that you didn't know what was right. They never
- 50:26Speaker 1: knew you. It's the Greek word ganasco to be changed
- 50:28Speaker 1: by me. It's that you never let me transform you.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 50:32Speaker 1: And burden of knowledge here, yes, say burden of knowledge.
- 50:36Speaker 1: If you listen to this podcast and you're listening to
- 50:39Speaker 1: this episode where we're talking about these things you are in,
- 50:42Speaker 1: you are no longer in the camp of oh I
- 50:45Speaker 1: didn't know you know now? And what we're saying is
- 50:49Speaker 1: we're not saying you can be perfect. What we're saying
- 50:51Speaker 1: is that if you will fully submit to God, he
- 50:53Speaker 1: can change your heart. And you're still going to have
- 50:57Speaker 1: to make a choice. God gave you a choice. He's
- 50:58Speaker 1: not gonna God's not gonna turn you into a little
- 51:01Speaker 1: Christian robot. But when you'll possess these superpowers through saying God,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna quit doing it my way and I'm gonna
- 51:07Speaker 1: do it your way, then you get the sword that
- 51:10Speaker 1: can actually cut these things down. You're still gonna have
- 51:12Speaker 1: to swing the sword, but God gives you the sword
- 51:15Speaker 1: that you don't have to live the way that you
- 51:17Speaker 1: used to live, that you get the opportunity to change
- 51:20Speaker 1: and truly be transformed, to know His will for your life,
- 51:23Speaker 1: to operate as a creature who has died and rose again. Yes,
- 51:26Speaker 1: let's hit the third leadership killer here, so insecurity, lack
- 51:31Speaker 1: of emotional control, those will destroy your leadership. And last
- 51:34Speaker 1: one here selfishness. Selfishness, and we can all be guilty
- 51:39Speaker 1: of selfishness. This is one of those things that you
- 51:42Speaker 1: just got to like see every time it's creeping in
- 51:44Speaker 1: and just cut it out right, Like as a man,
- 51:46Speaker 1: I can just speak for all men here. This is
- 51:48Speaker 1: what you have to do with lust. You're never gonna
- 51:50Speaker 1: get to a place like I'm just you know, just doesn't.
- 51:52Speaker 3: I no longer find it find the women attractive?
- 51:54Speaker 1: Yeah, unless your testosterone level is like if if you
- 51:57Speaker 1: aren't struggling with lust in the slightest, maybe you should
- 51:59Speaker 1: have your tea levels check. Okay, But it's controversially yeah, yeah,
- 52:04Speaker 1: that's that's sure. We can call that one my opinion.
- 52:07Speaker 1: But it's one of those things like lust where it's
- 52:08Speaker 1: like feel that creeping in and got to cut that
- 52:10Speaker 1: out real quick, right, Like there's there's weeds growing in
- 52:13Speaker 1: my garden. Rip them out, don't let them grow, don't
- 52:15Speaker 1: let them take root. That's how you manage lust. It's
- 52:18Speaker 1: how you manage selfishness. Selfishness, we can all start to say, like,
- 52:21Speaker 1: when's it going to be my turn? When am I
- 52:23Speaker 1: going to get to put some points on the board.
- 52:25Speaker 1: I'm tired of you know, I'm tired of sacrifice, sacrifice
- 52:28Speaker 1: my body. Can I Can I get the ball? Yes?
- 52:30Speaker 1: When am I going to get the ball? That is selfishness.
- 52:34Speaker 1: The antidote is saying, I'm here to play my part.
- 52:37Speaker 1: It's not about me. I get to play a part
- 52:40Speaker 1: and I get to be a part of something great.
- 52:42Speaker 1: But as soon as you start making it about you,
- 52:44Speaker 1: you know what, the banks will absolutely just run out
- 52:47Speaker 1: of money really quick. It is that dichotomy. He seeks
- 52:50Speaker 1: to gain his life, we'll lose it. When you start
- 52:52Speaker 1: trying to take as much as you can get, you'll
- 52:54Speaker 1: get the least you've ever got for sure. Yeah. The
- 52:57Speaker 1: transformation is a hard service and a heart of sacrifice.
- 53:02Speaker 1: It allows you to actually fulfill leadership in the right
- 53:07Speaker 1: role where it's like, what is leadership. Christ showed it
- 53:09Speaker 1: to us. Leadership is service. I'm not here to enroll
- 53:13Speaker 1: everyone in the Bill Garrett's Castle campaign. I'm here to
- 53:18Speaker 1: play a part, and we're gonna all go kill a
- 53:19Speaker 1: dragon together, right, And at the end of the day,
- 53:22Speaker 1: that is my service. It's my service to the kingdom
- 53:25Speaker 1: to help kill this dragon, and it is my service
- 53:27Speaker 1: to everyone else in the campaign to help you play
- 53:29Speaker 1: your part. I'm here, like you know, Eisenhower wasn't out
- 53:33Speaker 1: there to shoot Hitler in the head himself, right, he says,
- 53:36Speaker 1: I'm here to set a plan and to put things
- 53:39Speaker 1: in place so that this war can be won.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Yeah, And that really is how you fulfill the function
- 53:44Speaker 3: of leadership, because we've said on previous podcasts that leadership
- 53:47Speaker 3: is a functioner. A lot of times we make it
- 53:48Speaker 3: like a title of honor, like oh, that's the leader,
- 53:50Speaker 3: and they become like the superstar celebrity, and it's like No,
- 53:53Speaker 3: Christ's leadership is that you're you're the servant. I mean,
- 53:55Speaker 3: this is Matthew twenty twenty eight, just as the Son
- 53:58Speaker 3: of Man did not come to be served, but to
- 54:00Speaker 3: serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- 54:04Speaker 1: When he was on the Cross.
- 54:05Speaker 3: You think many people are going like, hey, I mean
- 54:07Speaker 3: they found a defensive that they said the king of
- 54:09Speaker 3: the Jews. The Jews actually argued against Pilot putting that
- 54:12Speaker 3: sign up. And you know, obviously they did that to
- 54:15Speaker 3: kind of mock the Jews, but no one would look
- 54:18Speaker 3: up and go, there's our leader. But that's exactly who
- 54:20Speaker 3: he was. And man, that hits me hard even as
- 54:23Speaker 3: I say that to think about that as leadership.
- 54:26Speaker 1: So as we wrap up here, I just want to
- 54:28Speaker 1: bring the context back to you, give you the foundation
- 54:31Speaker 1: of You've got to decide I'm gonna live for Christ completely,
- 54:35Speaker 1: otherwise you'll never possess the superpowers. This is the people
- 54:39Speaker 1: who want to be in shape, but all they do
- 54:41Speaker 1: is watch the Instagram videos. This is the people who
- 54:44Speaker 1: wanted to be Navy Seals. And I'm not taking a
- 54:45Speaker 1: shot at anyone here, but this is the people who
- 54:47Speaker 1: wanted to be Navy seals, but you never enrolled in
- 54:49Speaker 1: the program. You've got to decide, God, I'm going to
- 54:52Speaker 1: actually do this with you. I'm tired of just wearing
- 54:54Speaker 1: the T shirt. I'm tired of just hearing about it.
- 54:56Speaker 1: I want to receive the superpowers. That come from truly
- 55:00Speaker 1: following you, when you'll submit to him, when you'll get
- 55:02Speaker 1: an eternal mindset to see all the way, not just
- 55:05Speaker 1: to the end of your life, but into eternity with
- 55:07Speaker 1: what you're doing, that you'll live purposefully, that you'll see
- 55:10Speaker 1: that even in the midst of your struggles, what feels
- 55:12Speaker 1: like disaster, this is God developing me. His plan is
- 55:15Speaker 1: better than mine. And when you'll truly trust him, when
- 55:18Speaker 1: you'll have faith, when you'll have the courage, it's like God,
- 55:20Speaker 1: I've seen enough. I know you're not going to prove
- 55:22Speaker 1: it to me, and you're not going to do it
- 55:23Speaker 1: for me, but I've seen enough, and I'm going to
- 55:26Speaker 1: take a step. When you start living with God's superpowers,
- 55:29Speaker 1: it'll fix everything in your life. It'll fix your leadership,
- 55:32Speaker 1: it'll help you love your family, it'll help you lead
- 55:34Speaker 1: your business, and it'll help you live a life that
- 55:36Speaker 1: advances the Kingdom of God.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Thank you very much for listening. Guys, remember to share,
