Transcript
- 0:18Hi guys, it's Megan with vigilante vibes and I'm coming
- 0:20to you with another character breakdown that has to do with
- 0:24Fantastic Four First Steps. And of course I am talking about
- 0:28no other than the matriarch of The Marvels for Family, Sue
- 0:31Storm, who will be played by Vanessa Kirby and sometimes goes
- 0:35by the Invisible Woman. Sue Storm is a powerhouse in her
- 0:39own right, with the ability to turn herself and others
- 0:41completely invisible after being hit with cosmic rays that mutate
- 0:46her DNA. She helps form the Fantastic
- 0:48Four, Earth's first superhero team, and naturally steps into a
- 0:53carrying, grounding role as the team's heart and maternal
- 0:57figure. I have always said that Sue
- 1:00Storm is the backbone of the Fantastic Four.
- 1:02First of all, she's the strongest one.
- 1:06No argument there. Ow, no arguments there.
- 1:10Second, she's the one that brings them all together.
- 1:12She is Ben's friend, she is Reed's woman, she is Johnny's
- 1:18sister. She is the thing that ties them
- 1:21all together. So yes, I'd say she is the most
- 1:24important person in the Fantastic Four.
- 1:29But moving on, Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Girl
- 1:34slash woman, first appeared in comic book series Fantastic
- 1:37Four. Her first appearance was in
- 1:40Fantastic Four Number One. Like every other member of the
- 1:43Fantastic Four. In the 1967 animated series
- 1:47Fantastic Four, she was depicted as the Invisible Girl, not the
- 1:51Invisible Woman. So born Susan Storm, Sue had a
- 1:55happy early childhood with her younger brother Johnny, until
- 1:59tragedy struck. Their mother, Mary, died in a
- 2:02car crash. Their father, Doctor Franklin
- 2:05Storm, a respected surgeon, survived but spiralled into
- 2:09grief. He gave up his career, fell into
- 2:11drinking and gambling, and eventually ended up in prison
- 2:14after accidentally killing a loan shark in a desperate
- 2:17moment. After that, Sue took on a
- 2:20protective role for Johnny. The two went to live with their
- 2:23kind hearted aunt, who ran a boarding house.
- 2:26While there, a teenage Sue developed a crush on one of her
- 2:29aunt's borders, a young genius named Reed Richards, a college
- 2:33student at the time. Years later, they reconnected in
- 2:37California, where Sue was chasing an acting career and
- 2:40Reed was deep in his Space Research.
- 2:44When funding for Reed's Space Flight project was suddenly cut,
- 2:47he rushed to launch a test mission before it was shut down
- 2:51for good. He convinced his buddy and pilot
- 2:53Ben Grimm to fly the ship, and Sue and Johnny insisted on
- 2:57coming along, determined to face the danger together.
- 3:01During the flight, the ship was hit by a cosmic rays that
- 3:04changed them at all at a genetic level.
- 3:07After crash landing back on Earth, they discovered their new
- 3:10powers, Sue's being the ability to turn invisible.
- 3:14She originally took the name Invisible Girl and helped form
- 3:17the Fantastic Four, dedicating their abilities to hero work in
- 3:20scientific discovery. Later, after our run in with the
- 3:25villain Psycho Man, Sue evolved both in power and confidence,
- 3:29officially changing her code name to The Invisible Woman.
- 3:33Sue Richards had the power to make herself completely or
- 3:36partially invisible whenever she wants.
- 3:38She can even extend that invisibility to others or
- 3:41objects, covering up to 40,000 cubic feet.
- 3:45Basically, she bends light around whatever she's targeting,
- 3:48and she does it so smoothly that there's no weird visual
- 3:53distortion, distortion, or any kind of giveaway.
- 3:57Interestingly, Sue's eyes are wired a bit differently than
- 4:00most. She can see things that are
- 4:02invisible to others because her vision also picks up cosmic rays
- 4:06which are floating around the atmosphere.
- 4:09It's not full color vision when she's in that mode, but she can
- 4:12still make out invisible shapes and people.
- 4:15Even when she's invisible herself, she can still see just
- 4:18fine, though it might be more of a grayscale.
- 4:21She can also cancel out other people's invisibility if it
- 4:26wasn't created by her, and she has the option to make something
- 4:30only partially invisible, like revealing the insides of a
- 4:34machine and or even someone's organs for medical reasons.
- 4:39Her first impressive ability though is her control over
- 4:42invisible force fields. These things are insanely tough,
- 4:46basically indestructible, and she can use them in all sorts of
- 4:50ways. She can surround herself or
- 4:52others with them for protection and expand them inside objects
- 4:56to make them explode, or even use them inside someone's body
- 4:59to knock them out or do more serious damage.
- 5:03She can fine tune how solid or soft they are, making them rigid
- 5:07or for defense or cushioning for impact, and she can juggle
- 5:11multiple force fields at once. She can also shape her force
- 5:16fields into just about anything, from tiny marbles to massive
- 5:20constructs over 100 feet wide. She's created Dome shaped fields
- 5:24that stretch for miles, and even built a structure strong enough
- 5:28to hold something the size of the Empire State Building.
- 5:31She's pulled off things like shielding the entire buildings,
- 5:35scaffolding, foundations, and all kinds of large scale
- 5:38defenses. Beyond that, Sue's powers give
- 5:42her some bonus features like blocking telepathic attacks,
- 5:46tracking people or objects using sort of invisible radar pulse,
- 5:51and sensing or redirecting mental energy in her area.
- 5:55Most light just passes through her Shields like normal, which
- 5:59means she's still vulnerable to light base attacks, but she can
- 6:03shape a force field to trap light and use it like a
- 6:06flashlight or even block UV rays to avoid getting sunburned.
- 6:11Like I said, she is the strongest one in the Fantastic
- 6:15Four. For a while she swapped powers
- 6:18with her brother Johnny and could control fire like he does,
- 6:21showing she's pretty adaptable. Outside of her powers, Sue has
- 6:25some experience in acting and teaching and is a solid hand to
- 6:29hand fighter and swimmer and speaks both English and
- 6:32Latverian. Like the rest of the Fantastic
- 6:35Four, she wears a costume made of up of unstable molecules
- 6:39which adapts to her body and powers on the fly.
- 6:43As one of the original members of the Fantastic Four, Sue plays
- 6:47a major role in the team to protect Earth and sometimes the
- 6:51entire universe from super villains and cosmic threats.
- 6:56On top of her superhuman duties, she also handles a lot of the
- 7:00business sides of things. Through their company, Fantastic
- 7:03Four, Inc Sue helps manage the team's finances and overseas
- 7:07branding, licensing, merchandise and media projects as the
- 7:11Creative Chief Officer of their Enterprises division.
- 7:16Outside of work and saving the world, Sue is married to her
- 7:19teammate Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic, and is Johnny Storm's
- 7:23older sister the Human Torch, and is a long time friend and
- 7:27teammate to Ben Grimm, The Thing.
- 7:30Sue's also part of other groups over the years including the
- 7:33Friends of Miss America, the Secret Avengers, The Initiative,
- 7:37and even The Avengers for a while.
- 7:39She was also captain of her high school's girls varsity swim
- 7:42team, and even stepping back from The Avengers, she stayed
- 7:46close to members like the Wasp and She Hulk, who spent a
- 7:49significant amount of time on the Fantastic Four when Ben took
- 7:53a break from the team. Like the rest of the Fantastic
- 7:56Four, Sue has been involved in several massive superhero team
- 7:59UPS, including the original Contest of Champions.
- 8:02In that event, she was grouped with Iron Fist and some fire to
- 8:06face off against Daredevil Dark Star Australia's own hero
- 8:10Talisman as part of a cosmic game between powerful beings.
- 8:15So that's a brief background on Sue Storm.
- 8:18She has such a rich background. Once we get closer to the
- 8:22Fantastic Four first UPS, I'll make a full breakdown of her
- 8:25background. It's just, it's just such a,
- 8:28it's so much. It's so it'll be a huge episode
- 8:31and I don't have it in me this week.
- 8:34If you can't tell by my voice, I am sick because that's life.
- 8:40So in short, and to say it again, Sue Storm is the backbone
- 8:44of Fantastic Four strongest member.
- 8:47No offense to Ben, Johnny and Reed, but she's what brings them
- 8:51together. She is the life force behind
- 8:53them and they all have a different kind of connection
- 8:56with her that that's irreplaceable.
- 8:59I guess you could replace Reed's.
- 9:01It's just his wife, but whatever.
- 9:05I'm not a big fan of Reed, but I'll get to that on a later
- 9:08date. So I have comics like usual that
- 9:14you could check out to get to know Sue Storm a little better.
- 9:17If you have any comics that I did not name, please let me know
- 9:21in the comments because I'd like to check them out.
- 9:23Starting off Fantastic Four 381 through four O 7, this is when
- 9:28you see her as the team leader when dealing with Reed's death.
- 9:33Mark Wade's Invisible Woman run Fantastic Four number 266 shield
- 9:41#4 Both the Jonathan Hickman and Ryan N runs on Fantastic Four do
- 9:49a lot to flesh out every character, Sue included.
- 9:52They're both just incredible comics to check out in general.
- 9:55So anything Jonathan Hickman and Ryan N, you're on the right
- 9:59page. So great.
- 10:01So be sure to like and subscribe.
- 10:03And with that being said, have a marvelous day.
