- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans. Game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 0:04Speaker 1: long line, We've all been there, but when it comes
- 0:06Speaker 1: to your cannabis.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Hello everyone, and welcome into another episode of The Checker Daily.
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's Andrew to check the Birds dot com. The Eagles
- 0:16Speaker 2: have released defensive linemen. Take Long Bran, no veteran, play
- 0:21Speaker 2: a couple of different positions on the defensive line. He
- 0:24Speaker 2: was on the Eagles practice squad last season.
- 0:27Speaker 3: And feel taking care of the eye.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Training camp was excused from practice on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon,
- 0:36Speaker 2: waits now have a roster spot.
- 0:39Speaker 3: So let's get into the Europos and.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Where they stand. Just a few days in the training camp.
- 0:45Speaker 2: The commun start with wide receiver Kaye Lemons. Going into
- 0:49Speaker 2: training camps. Members understood that picked up for lost time
- 0:54Speaker 2: and anytime you're not out there in the spring was
- 0:58Speaker 2: putting together their offense. Especially with this offense where there's
- 1:02Speaker 2: a lot of details that are involved from the wide
- 1:04Speaker 2: receiver position. Naturally you're going to have a little bit
- 1:08Speaker 2: of concern as to how mckaye Lemon will take to it.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Is he going to enter training camp behind the eight ball,
- 1:14Speaker 2: So all of the eyes were on McKay lemon to
- 1:18Speaker 2: see how he was going to really immerse himself in
- 1:22Speaker 2: this offense.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Where he was in terms of this offense.
- 1:26Speaker 2: And while it's been sort of a slower burn for McKay,
- 1:32Speaker 2: it really has been for the entire offense. They haven't
- 1:35Speaker 2: really been able to get rolling in training camp. The
- 1:37Speaker 2: Eagles defense has sort of had their way, and that
- 1:40Speaker 2: really should be expected. That's not cause for concern. This
- 1:43Speaker 2: is an elite defense. The offense is newly installed. They're
- 1:47Speaker 2: working through some things, but I do think that going
- 1:50Speaker 2: up against a defense of this caliber should ultimately help
- 1:54Speaker 2: the Eagles. But let's get back to McKayle lemon, because
- 1:57Speaker 2: he did have a handful of receptions and team drills
- 2:00Speaker 2: through the first few practices. There was a deep pass
- 2:04Speaker 2: in his direction from Jalen Hurts late on Saturday morning.
- 2:08Speaker 2: He had a half step on Cooper Dejen was not
- 2:11Speaker 2: able to get it because there was just a little
- 2:13Speaker 2: bit too much on it. I thought Drew mccooba had
- 2:16Speaker 2: a nice play over the middle on mackay lemon, and
- 2:19Speaker 2: he did catch a few during the team period. But
- 2:22Speaker 2: he looks like he belongs and that's really what all
- 2:24Speaker 2: you can ask for right now, and you could see
- 2:27Speaker 2: the body type, the route running he's when he catches
- 2:30Speaker 2: the football, it's easy to envision him shedding tackles and
- 2:34Speaker 2: really making defensive backs works to bring him down. But
- 2:38Speaker 2: he's also gotten some looks as a punt returner and
- 2:41Speaker 2: the two different occasions where the Eagles have worked on
- 2:44Speaker 2: punt returns, he's been back there along with other players
- 2:48Speaker 2: like Britain Covey or on the first day was Elijah Moore.
- 2:54Speaker 2: He wasn't in practice on Saturday, but Cooper dejen has
- 2:58Speaker 2: been there quiz walk and has repped there as well.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So with Makayle Lemon, I'm going to be keeping an
- 3:03Speaker 2: eye on that because of all the candidates who are
- 3:06Speaker 2: back there, they're not likely to use Cooper de Gene.
- 3:09Speaker 2: They're not likely to go with someone who's sort of
- 3:13Speaker 2: a long shot for the roster where it's Kus Watkins
- 3:17Speaker 2: to a lesser degree, Britain Covey, Makayle Lemon would make
- 3:20Speaker 2: some sense and or what they could do, and we're
- 3:23Speaker 2: getting ahead of ourselves here is elevate Britain Covey from
- 3:26Speaker 2: the practice squad for a few weeks while you wait
- 3:29Speaker 2: for the roster to shake out a little bit, but nevertheless,
- 3:32Speaker 2: that's the early outlook of Makayle Lemon Eli Stowers. I
- 3:36Speaker 2: haven't really seen a ton from he's been coming in
- 3:39Speaker 2: as the third tight end. Johnny Munk's been comfortably the two,
- 3:43Speaker 2: and it's pretty clear that Stowers is the three. He's
- 3:47Speaker 2: coming along a little bit and he hasn't done a
- 3:52Speaker 2: ton during the team drills. But this is someone that
- 3:56Speaker 2: he's gonna have to continue to grow throughout the summer
- 3:59Speaker 2: and on some things. And I mean that was kind
- 4:01Speaker 2: of part of the understanding, at least my view of
- 4:06Speaker 2: the player going into training camp.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I never thought he.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Was necessarily gonna get off to a faster start. He
- 4:13Speaker 2: had a quiet beginning in the spring, and I just
- 4:16Speaker 2: think that as as the summer advances, you'll start to
- 4:19Speaker 2: see Eli Stowers make some more plays. I would imagine
- 4:23Speaker 2: the athleticism's there, you could see it in his movements,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but he just really hasn't done all that much through
- 4:29Speaker 2: the first three Nothing much to say really there, but
- 4:33Speaker 2: he's going to have to continue to also to grow
- 4:35Speaker 2: as a blocker. That's going to be paramount for him
- 4:37Speaker 2: to get on the field and start to factor in
- 4:40Speaker 2: a little bit more than he has on offense, but
- 4:43Speaker 2: that's probably gonna take a little bit of time. Then
- 4:45Speaker 2: you get to Mark hel Bell, the third round pick,
- 4:47Speaker 2: the offensive tackle out of Miami, and Mark hal Bell
- 4:50Speaker 2: was repping at left tackle on Saturday. He's largely repped
- 4:54Speaker 2: on the right side during practices, whether it's the spring
- 4:58Speaker 2: or right.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Now training camp.
- 5:00Speaker 2: But remember Lane Johnson didn't participate on Saturday. He was excused,
- 5:05Speaker 2: so Fred Johnson took over at right tackle and Markel
- 5:09Speaker 2: Bell left.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Look.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Fred Johnson didn't necessarily have a good practice. Jay loox
- 5:14Speaker 2: Hunt gave him a pretty challenging session, but that's not
- 5:19Speaker 2: to say that Fred Johnson should be all of a
- 5:22Speaker 2: sudden challenged by Bell after three days of practice for
- 5:26Speaker 2: that number three tackle job. Fred Johnson's played a lot
- 5:29Speaker 2: of football. He served as a critical depth piece for
- 5:31Speaker 2: this team. Experience counts for something, and for three days
- 5:36Speaker 2: in you have to let things develop a little bit,
- 5:39Speaker 2: and that's what you know.
- 5:43Speaker 3: That kind of goes without saying.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And if Fred Johnson was having trouble against jay loox
- 5:49Speaker 2: Hunt and some of that, some of those edge rushers,
- 5:52Speaker 2: imagine what a rookie would really struggle with in that instance,
- 5:55Speaker 2: maybe he wouldn't, but I mean Fred's played a lot
- 5:59Speaker 2: of football. Fred's gone against these players in practice before.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So I just think that it's more of a testament
- 6:05Speaker 2: to the player that Jay Oakes Hunt's be coming and
- 6:08Speaker 2: we're not going to get over you know, over carried
- 6:12Speaker 2: away and overreact to that. It's something I'll monitor certainly
- 6:16Speaker 2: and something that we'll keep an eye on moving forward.
- 6:18Speaker 2: But I do have a lot a lot of optimism
- 6:21Speaker 2: for Mark hal Bell, and I did mention that I'm
- 6:26Speaker 2: curious to see what would happen if you've reached the
- 6:29Speaker 2: end of the summer and Mark hal Bell has outperformed
- 6:31Speaker 2: Fred Johnson.
- 6:33Speaker 3: But after three days we're certainly not there yet. Let's
- 6:37Speaker 3: move on to uh Cole Peyton.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Cole Payton's had some good days, He's had some he
- 6:47Speaker 2: had a really bad day on day two. I should say,
- 6:50Speaker 2: he's had a couple of nice moments. He's had a
- 6:52Speaker 2: bad day, which was Day two where he threw three interceptions.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And I want to reiterate this, there's going to be
- 6:59Speaker 2: the ebbs and flow when it comes to a young
- 7:01Speaker 2: developmental quarterback. That is part of the territory so you
- 7:05Speaker 2: never want to make too much out of one day,
- 7:09Speaker 2: whether it's a standout day, whether it's one in which
- 7:14Speaker 2: there's turnovers. You got to let things play out. What
- 7:17Speaker 2: ultimately matters is where that player is at the end
- 7:20Speaker 2: of the summer. Did he grow from day one to
- 7:22Speaker 2: the end where there are certain areas of his game
- 7:25Speaker 2: that look a little bit more polished, whether it's mechanically,
- 7:29Speaker 2: whether it's in terms of decision making. So there's gonna
- 7:33Speaker 2: be days where he has maybe not three interceptions, but
- 7:36Speaker 2: he will have some less than accurate days, maybe turn
- 7:41Speaker 2: the football over once or twice. And then there's gonna
- 7:43Speaker 2: be a practice where in his flurry of reps he
- 7:47Speaker 2: delivers with a nice deep strike down the field and
- 7:51Speaker 2: maybe does some things as a runner. But that just
- 7:55Speaker 2: goes to show you it shouldn't read like an EKJ.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It's gonna read like an EKJ G machine. And because
- 8:00Speaker 2: of that, you can't necessarily, you know, look at it
- 8:07Speaker 2: too strongly one day or another. So he's someone that
- 8:11Speaker 2: I think I'm a little surprised that he's gotten a
- 8:13Speaker 2: little bit more reps. Is the number four then you
- 8:16Speaker 2: might expect, especially when you look at some of the
- 8:18Speaker 2: other quarterbacks over the years the Eagles have had and
- 8:22Speaker 2: they haven't really factored all that much into the practice.
- 8:25Speaker 2: It's really hard to carve out reps for that fourth quarterback.
- 8:28Speaker 2: But the Eagles deserve a little bit of credit for
- 8:31Speaker 2: being able to balance things in a way that seems
- 8:34Speaker 2: to really work for all four players, and someone.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Like Cole Payton needs reps.
- 8:39Speaker 2: The problem is is you're not going to get reps
- 8:41Speaker 2: over Andy Dalton or Tanner McKee.
- 8:44Speaker 3: So the reps that you do have, you have to
- 8:46Speaker 3: make the most of them.
- 8:47Speaker 2: You have to put in work after practice developmental period
- 8:50Speaker 2: with Parks Frasier, the Eagles quarterbacks coach. So he's going
- 8:54Speaker 2: to get a lot of work in the preseason, not
- 8:56Speaker 2: as much in training camp.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I imagine that's going to continue to to be the
- 9:00Speaker 3: case here.
- 9:01Speaker 2: But Cole Payton's someone that you could see the qualities
- 9:05Speaker 2: with them.
- 9:05Speaker 3: You just know that it's gonna be a little mile.
- 9:07Speaker 3: He's still a work in progress.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough, parking traffic,
- 9:15Speaker 1: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes

- 9:22Speaker 1: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly

- 10:05Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans. Twenty
- 10:09Speaker 1: one and up.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Michael Morris was working with the second team at right
- 10:13Speaker 2: guard on Saturday, suffering an injury went inside. He had
- 10:16Speaker 2: been working with the third team and he bumped up
- 10:19Speaker 2: to the second team.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I like his.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Size, I like the way he moves. I think he
- 10:23Speaker 2: can be sort of a mauler there. I just haven't
- 10:25Speaker 2: seen enough of them over three days. I'm not going
- 10:27Speaker 2: to sit here and tell you one thing. If I
- 10:31Speaker 2: don't have enough to go off of here, and I
- 10:34Speaker 2: just don't have enough information here to give you an
- 10:37Speaker 2: accurate depiction here what I think of him. But he
- 10:40Speaker 2: was hurt and we'll see where he is coming out
- 10:42Speaker 2: of that injury and what that means. On Monday when
- 10:47Speaker 2: they returned the practice field and moving forward, Safety Cole
- 10:50Speaker 2: was Nesky another player who hurt was he has a
- 10:54Speaker 2: hamstring injury. He didn't practice on Saturday. He's been working
- 10:58Speaker 2: with the third group as safety. So you like his
- 11:05Speaker 2: frame that stands out. I haven't seen a ton otherwise.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He was on the receiving end of a really big
- 11:11Speaker 2: time catch from Don Tavian Wicks.
- 11:13Speaker 3: He was in double coverage.
- 11:15Speaker 2: He was in coverage along with Jacory and Bennett and
- 11:21Speaker 2: Don Tavian Wicks. They would come up with it. Was
- 11:23Speaker 2: Nesky probably should have intercepted it. He was certainly in
- 11:26Speaker 2: position to do so, but that didn't happen. And then
- 11:29Speaker 2: if you remember he missed a little bit of time
- 11:31Speaker 2: in the spring, well, he missed time in the spring,
- 11:33Speaker 2: and he's missing time well at least one practice. Now
- 11:36Speaker 2: we'll see what that means moving forward. I still think
- 11:39Speaker 2: he is the front runner to win that spot as
- 11:42Speaker 2: the fourth safety, but I would not be so quick
- 11:46Speaker 2: to write off Andre Sam.
- 11:48Speaker 3: The eagles third year of safety.
- 11:50Speaker 2: He could make things interesting if was Nesky is sidelined
- 11:54Speaker 2: for a little bit there.
- 11:56Speaker 3: That brings us to U. R.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Bernard, the international pass player who is from Nigeria, And
- 12:04Speaker 2: it was always explained and understood that it's going to
- 12:08Speaker 2: take some time. The Eagles have a good support system
- 12:11Speaker 2: in place to have a plan in place. Or hasn't
- 12:14Speaker 2: repped a ton in training camp. He's worked with the
- 12:16Speaker 2: developmental team. You see the size. I mean he's naturally
- 12:20Speaker 2: having some trouble disengaging from lineman. He's, as Adam Kaplan said,
- 12:24Speaker 2: he's really in the why phase right now, learning why
- 12:28Speaker 2: you need to do certain things from your position. Then
- 12:31Speaker 2: he'll learn the how down the line.
- 12:33Speaker 3: It's going to be a long term process.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Here, and I think any reps that he does get
- 12:39Speaker 2: is going to be hugely important to his growth. But
- 12:42Speaker 2: they're not going to certainly do that at the expense
- 12:44Speaker 2: of some other players who can provide, who are ready
- 12:48Speaker 2: to help with providing reps in practice to benefit the team.
- 12:52Speaker 2: But Or really has been working with the developmental period
- 12:55Speaker 2: of practice and we'll see where things continue to go.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I'm really interested to see him in the preseason, and
- 13:02Speaker 2: I'm also interested to see how many snaps he does
- 13:05Speaker 2: in fact play. Rounding things out, you have outside linebacker
- 13:08Speaker 2: Keishawn James Newby. Then Kishawn James Newby had an interception
- 13:12Speaker 2: of Cole Payton on Saturday late in the session, returned
- 13:16Speaker 2: it for a touchdown when he was dropping into coverage there.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I think he moves well, and that's a player that
- 13:23Speaker 2: I think has done a little bit more. I don't
- 13:26Speaker 2: even want to say he did a little bit more,
- 13:27Speaker 2: but you could see the qualities that he has and
- 13:31Speaker 2: I want to see more from him. And he also
- 13:35Speaker 2: left practice injured on Saturday.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So I don't quite know what the extent of it is.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I will look to learn more Monday when we return.
- 13:43Speaker 2: And hopefully for all the players who were injured, Keyshawn
- 13:46Speaker 2: James Newby, Michael Morris, and Jaden Roberts, who his injury
- 13:51Speaker 2: looked pretty nasty.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Well, we'll have to We'll have to see what the.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Extent of all of those injuries are, but we'll have to.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I will keep you posted on that here on the
- 14:04Speaker 2: Checkodaily and on insidethebirds dot com.
- 14:07Speaker 3: But now that's going to do it for this episode
- 14:09Speaker 3: of the check Odeily.
- 14:10Speaker 2: I'm Andrew to checko and I'll catch you all on
- 14:13Speaker 2: the next one.
