Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We are getting closer to NHL season. You can almost
- 0:24Speaker 1: smell the hockey bags. They are a great episode coming
- 0:26Speaker 1: up to eight. The guys from the Empty Netters podcast,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Dan and Chris Power is absolutely fantastic. We'll tell you
- 0:31Speaker 1: about their journey not only in a hockey but also
- 0:34Speaker 1: in Hollywood. Some great storytelling and just how a hot
- 0:37Speaker 1: take about the New York Rangers got them in trouble.
- 0:39Speaker 2: If they're not backing down.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It'sine Found sixty the new John Candy documentary premiering it
- 0:43Speaker 1: Tiff plus stories involving Matt Rempey, Lane, Rutson, Lane Hudson, excuse.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Me and Ulson?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, hello rut Row.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Plus Carrie Price being dealt from the Montreal Canadians now
- 0:53Speaker 1: member of the San Jose Sharks. End of an era,
- 0:55Speaker 1: as they say, speaking of Montrelle will talk about another
- 0:58Speaker 1: goalie passing away with Ken Dryden in just a second.
- 1:00Speaker 2: But JD Connor McDavid another day, more drama.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I've been since captain in the Superstar remaining without a
- 1:06Speaker 1: contract past.
- 1:07Speaker 2: This upcoming season.
- 1:08Speaker 1: A potential lame duck scenario McDavid's saying quote, you.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Know, as I said, I put everything I have into
- 1:13Speaker 4: this and deserve to be paid what I feel is fair.
- 1:17Speaker 4: With that being said, this is a salary cap and
- 1:24Speaker 4: my only desire is to win, So trying to figure
- 1:29Speaker 4: out that balance is tricky.
- 1:30Speaker 2: But then there was this quote, which I do do
- 1:32Speaker 2: radio hits in Calgary.
- 1:33Speaker 1: They're having a field day with the long term, short term,
- 1:35Speaker 1: no term and just deliciously licking their chops the thought
- 1:38Speaker 1: of McDavid leaving Edmonton after this season. Part of what's
- 1:41Speaker 1: making this intriguing is that there's other major names available
- 1:44Speaker 1: potentially after this year, jack Iicle Corolla, Price Soft, Kyle
- 1:47Speaker 1: Connor or Timmy paneren So.
- 1:49Speaker 2: First and foremost, what's going to happen here weeks before
- 1:51Speaker 2: the season begins.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Does McDavid agree to a short term, long term or
- 1:55Speaker 1: no term?
- 1:57Speaker 5: Well, first we have to address the elephant in the room.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Is you taking pot shots at Edmonton on that podcast
- 2:03Speaker 5: which I did us to do.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yesterday and I just went there, he is, I can't
- 2:08Speaker 1: wait till I return to Edmonton. Gon we get booed
- 2:10Speaker 1: off the Senate Amazon Oh saying that Calgary is better
- 2:13Speaker 1: than Edmonton, which I mean an hour and you referenced
- 2:17Speaker 1: it by saying an hour and a half from maam,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and I was like, okay, okay, there, Yeah, I'm like there,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Ad ends he's he's towing the.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Line a little bit. But I liked the little pot
- 2:26Speaker 5: shots at Edmonton. I did stay at the bar Scona
- 2:29Speaker 5: injur in the playoffs and right, you know, the finest
- 2:32Speaker 5: that Edmonton had to offer. But man, it's a tough
- 2:35Speaker 5: one with with Connor truly is you know. I think
- 2:38Speaker 5: you know, we were just talking about it before we
- 2:40Speaker 5: came on, and the more you talk about it, the
- 2:42Speaker 5: more kind of this onion gets peeled back of, Like,
- 2:45Speaker 5: you know, there's so many things he has to consider.
- 2:48Speaker 5: You know, I think he's he's got the NHL PA,
- 2:51Speaker 5: he's got his agents, he's got his family in his ear.
- 2:54Speaker 5: He's probably considering all those options. The PA probably wants
- 2:57Speaker 5: him to take the max deal, the biggest deal, set
- 2:59Speaker 5: a record, because that will kind of then bring everybody
- 3:02Speaker 5: else up. But then you also look at like the
- 3:04Speaker 5: guys that aren't that are unsigned, the Caprice Ops. The
- 3:07Speaker 5: Caprice Ops gonna set a big number. They Minnesota came
- 3:10Speaker 5: out and they were talking about how he's gonna get paid.
- 3:12Speaker 5: It's gonna be a record deal for him and the team. So,
- 3:16Speaker 5: you know, I don't think Connor wants to maybe show
- 3:18Speaker 5: his cards too early and sign and then Caprice off.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Can you know he sets the market when I think
- 3:24Speaker 5: Connor is one of those guys that he's always going
- 3:26Speaker 5: to exceed whatever the market's at and whatever it's set at.
- 3:28Speaker 5: So I think he's probably waiting for some chips to fall.
- 3:30Speaker 5: And rightfully so, like I think he's earned, you know,
- 3:34Speaker 5: the opportunity to not rush.
- 3:36Speaker 3: He doesn't. He shouldn't have to rush. They should.
- 3:39Speaker 5: If he wants to play out this season, he should
- 3:40Speaker 5: play out this season. H And also, you know, I
- 3:44Speaker 5: just truly think that Edmonton needs to show that, like listen,
- 3:49Speaker 5: this wasn't these two these two years weren't a flash
- 3:52Speaker 5: in the pan. We need to get creative to create
- 3:54Speaker 5: cap space to bring in a team. Because you look
- 3:57Speaker 5: at the team you have to beat who is the
- 3:59Speaker 5: gold standard. It's the Florida Panthers. They got all these
- 4:01Speaker 5: guys on deals. They have the best team again, I
- 4:04Speaker 5: think in the NHL, So you need to beat that.
- 4:06Speaker 5: You haven't been able to beat that thus far, So
- 4:09Speaker 5: how do we do that? We need to put together
- 4:10Speaker 5: a team that can get through all the West, the whatever,
- 4:14Speaker 5: the Gauntlet, Juggernaut West, and then end up playing Florida
- 4:18Speaker 5: with enough juice in the tank to sorry enough gas
- 4:22Speaker 5: in the tank to to finally dethrown them if it
- 4:24Speaker 5: is the Florida Panthers that make it in the finals.
- 4:26Speaker 5: But yeah, I just think it's something that has been
- 4:30Speaker 5: probably weighing on his mind since the playoffs and since
- 4:33Speaker 5: the way they got beat. I think their team was
- 4:35Speaker 5: better two years ago than it was last year, and
- 4:38Speaker 5: it can't keep going downhill. It's got to now kind
- 4:40Speaker 5: of get up to It's got to just get back
- 4:42Speaker 5: to the level it was and be that one win
- 4:45Speaker 5: away from winning a Stanley Cup versus kind of getting
- 4:48Speaker 5: walk like a dog a little bit in that finals
- 4:50Speaker 5: last year against Florida.
- 4:51Speaker 3: So a lot for him away. I have a weird feeling.
- 4:55Speaker 5: I want to think he's leaving, but you know, and
- 4:59Speaker 5: I think he will end up staying. But you know,
- 5:02Speaker 5: part of me is really leaning on like, yeah, he's gone.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do some percentages tell you wane as well.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So I'm gonna do each one I'm gonna do long term,
- 5:10Speaker 1: short term or not term, meaning.
- 5:11Speaker 2: He'll just play out the rest of this year.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So the odds of McDavid's signing a long term contract
- 5:16Speaker 1: in the next month, tell I'm gonna go at five percent,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you go next than j D.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Zero?
- 5:22Speaker 6: Why would he sign a long term deal? Is Austin
- 5:25Speaker 6: Matthews signing long term deals with Toronto?
- 5:27Speaker 1: No?
- 5:28Speaker 3: So why should Connor McDavid Austin Matthews catching strays.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I'm not criticizing for its three years at a time. Yeah,
- 5:37Speaker 6: let's come back in three years and we'll do it again,
- 5:40Speaker 6: you know.
- 5:40Speaker 5: And I mean no, I think I can't see. I
- 5:44Speaker 5: can't see a long term unless somebody caprice off for
- 5:47Speaker 5: one of them signs before I think. I think it's
- 5:50Speaker 5: you know, I want to go. There's always a chance.
- 5:52Speaker 5: That's an obscene number. I'm gonna say tenright.
- 5:56Speaker 1: No term McDavid does not sign a contract, he plays
- 5:59Speaker 1: out this season as an unrestricted PHAs at the end
- 6:02Speaker 1: of the year, JD.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna put that at.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Zero.
- 6:06Speaker 5: I think he'll they'll get something done by the end
- 6:08Speaker 5: of the year. Whether it's whether it's uh, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 5: number one, it'll be a sign in trade at the
- 6:15Speaker 5: deadline if he truly thinks he doesn't want to leave,
- 6:19Speaker 5: or sorry, if he wants to leave and he's like
- 6:21Speaker 5: this team, shit, I'm I'm out of here. I don't
- 6:23Speaker 5: think he'll play out this contract. It'll be way too
- 6:25Speaker 5: much noise, especially going to the playoffs. It'll happen, I
- 6:28Speaker 5: think sooner than we think, but not like all the
- 6:34Speaker 5: way to the end of the season.
- 6:35Speaker 6: So that means so the deal probably gets done before
- 6:38Speaker 6: the season starts.
- 6:39Speaker 5: I think I think maybe early into the season, around
- 6:42Speaker 5: Christmas time. It is my highest percentage.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I was gonna say, short term deal I think is
- 6:46Speaker 1: sixty percent chance, Like that's the greatest likely that happens, Yes,
- 6:49Speaker 1: within the next couple of months, and it's two to
- 6:52Speaker 1: four years high av I think dry sales at fourteen,
- 6:56Speaker 1: so in that range fifteen whenever, like at least.
- 6:58Speaker 5: You get sixteen, yeah, if you get sixteen one, yeah, yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 5: I think. I mean short, short term is the where
- 7:06Speaker 5: where I'm leaning. A one two year deal I think
- 7:08Speaker 5: is what he'll take and see from there.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Think about.
- 7:14Speaker 1: All right, But to Jad's point, tell this doesn't give
- 7:16Speaker 1: you a whole lot of conference. The Oilers fan like, Okay,
- 7:17Speaker 1: he's here for a year and we.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Got a one more year out of him for sixty million.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You're still pretty tense about this.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I was thinking three years fifty million. You got
- 7:26Speaker 6: three years to win a cup basically, and you got
- 7:28Speaker 6: to be and he's got to be the highest paid
- 7:31Speaker 6: player if not, or win of the highest obviously, you
- 7:33Speaker 6: got three years, win a cup. Show me that we're
- 7:36Speaker 6: or at least show me that we're right there, or
- 7:39Speaker 6: he's gone.
- 7:40Speaker 3: No gruff tal the GM that taking.
- 7:43Speaker 6: If he needs consultants, I'm available, O Connor Tallbose.
- 7:48Speaker 2: What's best for the sport is you want a little
- 7:50Speaker 2: action here?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Okay?
- 7:51Speaker 5: Yeah we should. We should get Cam McDavid on. We
- 7:55Speaker 5: should get McDavid's brother. And I got his phone number.
- 7:57Speaker 5: I got it and I got him in an airport.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I got his number at an airport.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Just tell me Cam, listen.
- 8:03Speaker 1: It's better for the sport if he goes somewhere else,
- 8:05Speaker 1: or it's better if he just plays us out. We
- 8:06Speaker 1: need Drava, We need some clicks here. Okay, we know
- 8:09Speaker 1: ten years of oilers, whatever we've seen it. Ultimately, how
- 8:12Speaker 1: big a distraction you think it could be?
- 8:14Speaker 3: JD.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I mean, you hear this term all the time. You're actional.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Log is it actually is it actually a distraction? If
- 8:18Speaker 1: he's not signed by opening night.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Uh.
- 8:21Speaker 5: I think the noise will just increasingly get louder and louder.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I think, Edmonton, listen, this is like, this is Gretzky leaving.
- 8:30Speaker 5: This is listen, this is just this is the best
- 8:33Speaker 5: player in the league. You know, that's potentially gonna shake
- 8:39Speaker 5: up the core of the league, shake up Edmonton fans.
- 8:43Speaker 5: It's going to literally be a tsunami of news interviews. Uh,
- 8:50Speaker 5: just so much. So many reporters are gonna make their money,
- 8:54Speaker 5: are gonna make so much money this year because they're
- 8:57Speaker 5: gonna be reporting on Connor McDavid. And the longer this goes,
- 9:00Speaker 5: the more money they're gonna make. So of course, the
- 9:02Speaker 5: reporters and all of us, we don't want it to
- 9:03Speaker 5: go anywhere because it's we get tons of clicks now.
- 9:06Speaker 5: But I think for him, it's going to become way
- 9:09Speaker 5: too loud. And I just think he is somebody that's
- 9:12Speaker 5: very good at keeping the noise outside and really compartmentalizing.
- 9:17Speaker 5: But this is something that will touch his family, It'll
- 9:21Speaker 5: it'll touch the team and if he truly wants to
- 9:24Speaker 5: win this year, he's going to sign something, I think,
- 9:28Speaker 5: or tell them like I'm gone. I just I think
- 9:31Speaker 5: the communication. I can't see him sitting out without talking.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And tell one more just to rustle people up here,
- 9:37Speaker 2: reckless speculation.
- 9:38Speaker 1: If Nick David were to leave, should imagine Panthers, Lightning
- 9:42Speaker 1: Stars Vegas like one of those warm weather USA teams,
- 9:45Speaker 1: rather than you know, Eschewing going to the Maple Leaves
- 9:47Speaker 1: doing Thea's a Richmond Hill guy.
- 9:49Speaker 6: Well, I I want to hear how much the state
- 9:53Speaker 6: tax issue would come in negotiation.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Zach What I was gonna say, It looks a numbers.
- 10:00Speaker 6: So like I know Ben Klemer, he's a former NHL
- 10:03Speaker 6: player who now is a financial analyst for NHL players
- 10:06Speaker 6: or consultants, and he kind of showed me some of
- 10:08Speaker 6: the some of the numbers that his firm cracked down.
- 10:11Speaker 6: And the number, you know, when you get to that
- 10:13Speaker 6: higher salary bracket in the NHL, the amount of money
- 10:16Speaker 6: you're saving in taxes between like a Vegas and a Toronto,
- 10:20Speaker 6: like the Mitch Martner effect, it's a lot of money.
- 10:23Speaker 6: These guys can save a lot of money by going
- 10:25Speaker 6: to a place with no state tax compared to a
- 10:27Speaker 6: Canadian market or California, so that that could play into
- 10:32Speaker 6: it as well.
- 10:34Speaker 5: I think if he goes to a no state tax,
- 10:36Speaker 5: we will see war will Sallas, the next will be
- 10:41Speaker 5: Canada the next day. Canada is at war with the USA.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Not saying it'll be a long war, but we're at
- 10:47Speaker 5: war with the USA. If he goes to a no
- 10:48Speaker 5: state tax, it is fucking see you later. They're coming
- 10:52Speaker 5: down with pitchforks. They're going to Texas, They're going to Florida,
- 10:56Speaker 5: maybe the Carolinas. They're going to Delaware, Alabama, just going
- 11:01Speaker 5: anywhere there's no state tax, and they are just appsol
- 11:04Speaker 5: going to war.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Any fans in the War of eighteen twelve, we could
- 11:08Speaker 1: see another version coming in twenty twenty six. All Right,
- 11:11Speaker 1: we'll get to the true RD, the true heart, strong
- 11:13Speaker 1: and free. We know what's not wrong here. Okay, folks
- 11:15Speaker 1: like we're living in America, but we're Canadians at heart.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Some sad news over the weekend. Anybody who loves hockey
- 11:20Speaker 1: knows the name Ken Dryden. His legacy within the NHL
- 11:23Speaker 1: pass me at the age of seventy eight. It's one
- 11:24Speaker 1: of the great stories of any athlete of just literally
- 11:28Speaker 1: hitting the ground running and in a rather brief amount
- 11:31Speaker 1: of time making an indelible impact.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Eight seasons.
- 11:34Speaker 3: That's it.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Ken Dryden played eight seasons. He won the Cup six
- 11:38Speaker 1: times and the Vesna five times. Retires to the age
- 11:41Speaker 1: of thirty one, which is like Bjorn Borg style.
- 11:43Speaker 2: He says, Okay, I got a lot of other things
- 11:45Speaker 2: to do. Here's the thing about Ken Dryden, the hockey goal.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You know, lawyer, author, NHL executive professor and a member
- 11:51Speaker 1: of Canada's Parliament. His first book, The Game Still Concerned,
- 11:54Speaker 1: arguably the greatest hockey book ever. That unbelievable pose of
- 11:57Speaker 1: course Dryden, which's waiting there a net with the stick
- 12:01Speaker 1: resting on his gloves. I'd mean, a true original the sport.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Of all the things I think about GD they'll never
- 12:06Speaker 1: see again. He won the con smythe as a playoff
- 12:09Speaker 1: MVP in its first season and then won the Calder
- 12:12Speaker 1: as the Rookie of the Year in the next season.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Took a year off during his ANCIL career. Article with
- 12:16Speaker 1: a law from in Toronto. Just a rellly hell of
- 12:19Speaker 1: a guy.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Very very impressive.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Yeah, just an impressive human being. Showing that he's, you know,
- 12:25Speaker 5: bigger than the game, not identified by just hockey a
- 12:28Speaker 5: hockey player. But when he did play, holy shit, was
- 12:31Speaker 5: he good? And I mean to just come out and
- 12:33Speaker 5: dominate the way he dominated and then just think I'm good,
- 12:37Speaker 5: gonna go to some other things, get into the political
- 12:38Speaker 5: sphere of the world and just get a law degree
- 12:42Speaker 5: and practice law and write books. I mean, just an
- 12:45Speaker 5: impressive human being and showing that a lot of hockey
- 12:47Speaker 5: players are more than just the skates and sticking pads man,
- 12:51Speaker 5: you know, so rip to a good one.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Just did all rankle a bit that he end was
- 12:56Speaker 1: running the leaves for a while, like he has known
- 12:58Speaker 1: so well in Montreal. Obviously this iconic goaltender was ever
- 13:01Speaker 1: odd to that Ken Dryme was running the troll may
- 13:03Speaker 1: be leaefs for of time.
- 13:05Speaker 5: It's weird. Maybe it's why they didn't win, but you know,
- 13:09Speaker 5: he just was. It was too in love with the
- 13:13Speaker 5: Canadians at heart, so working for the least the least.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Such a tell.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Do you think you should get a statue outside the
- 13:22Speaker 1: Bell Center, Ken Dryden?
- 13:25Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, I think it's I think it's time They've
- 13:28Speaker 6: got four statues out of the building. Outside that building,
- 13:31Speaker 6: you could make the case they should have at least
- 13:32Speaker 6: double that. I think, you know, the Dryden poes you
- 13:35Speaker 6: mentioned is so iconic, I think, and really one of
- 13:40Speaker 6: the most impressive not just hockey careers, but lives in
- 13:43Speaker 6: the history of yea of hot that's in terms of
- 13:45Speaker 6: so many things he accomplished.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I you know, we were texting by the other day.
- 13:48Speaker 6: I started reading the game and for like the time
- 13:51Speaker 6: when I heard he had passed away and it still
- 13:53Speaker 6: holds up. It's still so good, And yeah, I think
- 13:57Speaker 6: he deserves it. I think the Canadians should absolutely. You know,
- 14:01Speaker 6: there's a lot of buzz around the team now, they're enjoying,
- 14:03Speaker 6: you know, some juice around the league. I think they
- 14:06Speaker 6: should consider maybe installing a couple of new statues starting
- 14:09Speaker 6: with Ken Dryden'd be.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Very cool to see. Speaking of Canadian's goalies and Canadian's legends.
- 14:15Speaker 1: A blockbuster trade Carrie Price the Sharks round pick thank
- 14:18Speaker 1: you for prospect gannon la Rock Carry Price has in
- 14:21Speaker 1: placed his twenty twenty two JD due to injuries, so
- 14:24Speaker 1: the deal basically frees up around ten million dollars in
- 14:26Speaker 1: cap space for the Habs, who could look to add
- 14:29Speaker 1: a contract before the season starts. When you think of
- 14:32Speaker 1: Carry Price obviously had incredible moments. Heart Trophy Vesna was
- 14:35Speaker 1: really the face of the franchise for years. It doesn't
- 14:38Speaker 1: end great, which is often as the case for veteran players,
- 14:40Speaker 1: But how do you associate or just assess Carry Price's
- 14:44Speaker 1: run with the habs.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Well, I mean, is there a guy that I mean
- 14:48Speaker 5: that Heart Trophy season, I mean was just absolutely incredible
- 14:53Speaker 5: and how he just I mean he carried that franchise
- 14:58Speaker 5: for a while. I mean, he was such a fun
- 14:59Speaker 5: goalie to watch, so fun to just the way he competed,
- 15:04Speaker 5: the way he looked so calm in the net. But
- 15:06Speaker 5: then when he needed to be just this uber athletic
- 15:09Speaker 5: guy and make these acrobatic saves, he had that in him.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And he's one of those goalies.
- 15:13Speaker 5: That you know, kind of struck fear in guys, like
- 15:17Speaker 5: you come down and you're like, oh shit, I gotta
- 15:19Speaker 5: shoot on Carry Price, Like I don't know where to go.
- 15:20Speaker 5: I'm just gonna close my eyes and pray. And that's
- 15:22Speaker 5: this kind of those goals you don't see them often
- 15:25Speaker 5: where you know it's it's you just can't figure him
- 15:28Speaker 5: out and and you know that run they had when
- 15:31Speaker 5: they got to the finals. He was there, correct, Yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 5: he was there. Yeah, exactly right. I'm like, I'm like
- 15:39Speaker 5: getting mixed up a ton, Ken Dryden. I'm thinking of
- 15:41Speaker 5: the seventies, eighties. I'm like, gee, where am I right now?
- 15:46Speaker 3: It's your kids, it's your kids soon.
- 15:48Speaker 2: It's gotta be done about your kids.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:51Speaker 5: I think he's Yeah, he's just a fantastic well. I think,
- 15:54Speaker 5: you know, talking Montreal Canadians more. I don't love that
- 16:00Speaker 5: San Jose is my alma monitor just went and took
- 16:02Speaker 5: on another contract. I'm like Jesus Christ. But listen, I
- 16:06Speaker 5: think for Montreal they're doing all the right things. Ken
- 16:10Speaker 5: Hughes doing some amazing things there. I think it's gonna
- 16:13Speaker 5: free up some cap space for you know, Lane Hudson.
- 16:16Speaker 5: Lane Hudson's got one year left. They got a lot
- 16:19Speaker 5: of couple guys. You know, Patrick Lione is coming off
- 16:21Speaker 5: the books next year. I don't think they'll resign him.
- 16:23Speaker 5: I think there's there's opportunity for a blockbuster for them
- 16:27Speaker 5: and really to take a swing here because I do
- 16:29Speaker 5: think made the playoffs last year. I think they're like, listen,
- 16:33Speaker 5: we're right there. We have a very good first line,
- 16:35Speaker 5: you know in Suzuki Slavkovski and Kawfield. We've got Ivan Demidov.
- 16:40Speaker 5: We need to get some a centermen. We need to
- 16:43Speaker 5: find somebody via trade sign and trade. So I think
- 16:46Speaker 5: they'll be actively looking, and then they're also just going
- 16:49Speaker 5: to show up the guys they need to shore up.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Mike Matheson has a year left as well, so I
- 16:53Speaker 5: think they have to resign him. So that's two big
- 16:54Speaker 5: D men pieces that you know, maybe Matheson walks, but
- 16:59Speaker 5: I think they'll try to get something done with him.
- 17:01Speaker 5: And then Lane Hudson, I'm sure is going to get
- 17:03Speaker 5: you know, a Dustin woolf s contract esque contract, which
- 17:07Speaker 5: is you know, fifty two million something like that, and
- 17:10Speaker 5: get paid because you know, he's, uh, he's just one
- 17:14Speaker 5: of those D man young demon you're gonna have to
- 17:16Speaker 5: lock up. And so I think they're thinking about all
- 17:19Speaker 5: of that. Now they get another contract off the books,
- 17:21Speaker 5: and they're the things are trending up many They have
- 17:24Speaker 5: a lot to like in the system in the HL
- 17:26Speaker 5: and and you know, good coach, good front office, good captain.
- 17:32Speaker 5: It's uh yeah, I like where they're going.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I like it.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Props with Jeff Gordon, Marty see Luis. They try to
- 17:37Speaker 1: continue the positive vibes. We'll do one more topic. We'll
- 17:40Speaker 1: get to the empty their boys after quick break. But
- 17:42Speaker 1: on the topic of goalies. NHL celebrating Goalie Week last week.
- 17:45Speaker 1: For the celebration, NHL dot com conducted a poll forty
- 17:48Speaker 1: two NHL players asking which goalie was the toughest to
- 17:51Speaker 1: score on Andre Vassel last year. The Tampa Lightning basically
- 17:54Speaker 1: on top of that pole, followed by Connor Hellibuk who
- 17:57Speaker 1: won the Vesna and the hard Igor schusterkin Cergei Bobrovsky,
- 18:00Speaker 1: Jake Ottinger, Jeremy Swayman, and Thatcher Demko both received one
- 18:04Speaker 1: vote each in the poll.
- 18:06Speaker 2: How accurate you with that list?
- 18:07Speaker 3: You? Yeah?
- 18:09Speaker 5: I mean, listen, the players have spoken, and I think
- 18:12Speaker 5: more than writers, I think the players understand. You know,
- 18:15Speaker 5: I don't know which forty two you took. Now, if
- 18:17Speaker 5: you took forty two of me when I played, I'm
- 18:19Speaker 5: sure we would it would have been a little bit
- 18:22Speaker 5: of different.
- 18:22Speaker 3: But I'm sure they.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Took a lot of the top guys in the league,
- 18:24Speaker 5: and this is kind of what you get. I think
- 18:28Speaker 5: a lot of those top four goalies are interchangeable, you know, Bobrovsky,
- 18:32Speaker 5: Igor Hellabuck, and Vassilevsky to me, I kind of in
- 18:35Speaker 5: the same I put them in the same category. And
- 18:39Speaker 5: then I have the Ottingers and Swaymens that are kind
- 18:42Speaker 5: of just tickling just on the edge of that.
- 18:46Speaker 3: So there's a lot of guys.
- 18:47Speaker 5: You know, I don't think that thatcher Demko when he's healthy,
- 18:49Speaker 5: I think he's up there, but you know, he hasn't
- 18:51Speaker 5: really had a healthy year and he really needs to
- 18:54Speaker 5: get some semblance of consistency.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But yeah, I like that.
- 18:58Speaker 5: You know, it doesn't really move the needle a ton
- 19:00Speaker 5: for me, but yeah, I uh, it's it's really something
- 19:06Speaker 5: that Andrey Vaskos. I'd like to see Veaslevsky be a
- 19:09Speaker 5: little bit better than he's been. I just don't think
- 19:13Speaker 5: he's found the form that he once had, but you
- 19:15Speaker 5: could see the respect that he still has around the league.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So yeah, as you said, there was no shocking omission
- 19:20Speaker 1: I think. I mean, if you just said, informally talked
- 19:22Speaker 1: with friends best goalies in hockey, you're gonna get a
- 19:24Speaker 1: list of Bob Schisturk and Hellabuck, and as you said,
- 19:27Speaker 1: Basilevsky's so interesting.
- 19:28Speaker 5: How that should we talk about Dustin Wolf getting signed too?
- 19:33Speaker 5: That just that What do you think of that? What
- 19:34Speaker 5: do you think of that deal? We talk about young
- 19:36Speaker 5: guys getting big deals.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Well, the thing about Wolf and Calgary is that watching
- 19:41Speaker 1: that team a bunch having gone there for Amazon, like
- 19:43Speaker 1: it was honestly remarkable work by Ryan Hoskin.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Even in the playoff mix.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I couldn't believe, like the second last game of the
- 19:48Speaker 1: season the Flames could be in a playoff spot because
- 19:51Speaker 1: they were so offensively challenged.
- 19:52Speaker 2: So to have a rookie come in.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And play at that level and it doesn't mean they
- 19:55Speaker 1: weren't playing strong team defense or other aren't good players obviously.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Now he's in a great year Mackenzie Eager, et cetera.
- 20:00Speaker 2: But like, I love seeing a player who has that
- 20:02Speaker 2: kind of an impact on the.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Team already beloveding Calgary undersized goalie this year's Mike Vernan,
- 20:07Speaker 1: et cetera. To get locked up like that, Like there's
- 20:09Speaker 1: there's no reason to hesitate for me. If you Calgary,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you already know he's the guy get it done.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I like it.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Yeah, Goalies at a premium I I mean, what are
- 20:18Speaker 5: your thoughts on just and tell if you can check
- 20:20Speaker 5: the numbers on wolf seventy years fifty two point fifty
- 20:24Speaker 5: two point five, okay, I mean the signings of the
- 20:28Speaker 5: youth after playing one year. We had Frank Nazar. You know,
- 20:32Speaker 5: we're probably gonna have Lane Hudson to these ridiculously big
- 20:37Speaker 5: contracts for the amount that they've proven. You know, I
- 20:40Speaker 5: was sitting with a couple guys having a couple of
- 20:43Speaker 5: cocktails the other day, some ex players I can't say who,
- 20:45Speaker 5: but older guys that were just irate with the GMing
- 20:50Speaker 5: being done in the league because they're they don't understand
- 20:54Speaker 5: why they're giving these guys. You know, Frank Nazar played
- 20:57Speaker 5: fifty six games, he gets seven years. Dustin Wolfe great
- 21:02Speaker 5: season call their season only played one year. You look
- 21:06Speaker 5: at Laanehudson, He's gonna get a big deal, probably max
- 21:09Speaker 5: out something one year. It's like, you could get these
- 21:12Speaker 5: guys in a two three year deal, have them prove it,
- 21:15Speaker 5: you know versus when I played was really you know,
- 21:17Speaker 5: you had to you didn't get paid till you're twenty eight.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Now it's a different league now, but there is like
- 21:23Speaker 5: I feel like there could be a happy medium.
- 21:25Speaker 1: No, yeah, I mean the town has been an interesting point.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Go ahead, tell where even still the fact he can
- 21:30Speaker 1: still sen another big contract.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I just sent av a little message. He's twenty four,
- 21:35Speaker 6: so he's gonna get a chance to get one, you know,
- 21:37Speaker 6: one last big deal after this deal. And the only
- 21:40Speaker 6: thing I was gonna say, I mean, think about how
- 21:41Speaker 6: many strong franchises there are whose fans are going crazy
- 21:45Speaker 6: about trying to find a goalie, you know, whether it's
- 21:47Speaker 6: the Leafs or the Oilers, and so I think especially
- 21:51Speaker 6: you know, looking just across the province, you know in
- 21:55Speaker 6: Edmonton and the just the saga they've had trying to
- 21:59Speaker 6: find their goalie the Flames, I'm pretty sure figured we
- 22:02Speaker 6: got our guy. Like this is the guy who they
- 22:05Speaker 6: almost made the playoffs because of Dustin Wolf last season.
- 22:08Speaker 3: So you know, I think it was a no brainer.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Let's wrap this guy up long term. I mean, he's
- 22:12Speaker 3: the foundation of the franchise. So that's what that deal
- 22:16Speaker 3: is all about.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, what's take a quarterback in football? If you got
- 22:19Speaker 1: your guy, go ahead and just lock him up and
- 22:20Speaker 1: figure out the.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Rest lock that bitch up. JJ McCarthy style.
- 22:23Speaker 2: There you go big pin for the vikings with the Bears.
- 22:25Speaker 1: All right, when we come back here on Unscripted, the
- 22:28Speaker 1: host of the Empty Nettors podcast, Dan and Chris Powers.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Great storyteller, You're gonna love These guys are coming up
- 22:33Speaker 2: right after this.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Don't go anywhere.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Hype for this our next guest.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Couple of brothers hosts one of the most popular hockey
- 22:52Speaker 1: shows in the potto sphere. They build themselves as a
- 22:54Speaker 1: couple of beer League beauties and NHL fanatics. Were thrilled
- 22:57Speaker 1: to have the bomb this week. It's the host of
- 22:59Speaker 1: Empty Netters, Dan and Chris Powers. Let's start there, Dan,
- 23:03Speaker 1: beer League Beauties. That's like, that's pure hockey speak.
- 23:06Speaker 2: For when you know someone's down for the cause.
- 23:07Speaker 7: Listen, we always say it. Everyone ends up in the
- 23:10Speaker 7: same league eventually, so making sure that you have beauty
- 23:14Speaker 7: status at that final stage is the most important thing
- 23:17Speaker 7: in the world because that's where you will eventually meet everybody.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Well, well both of you talk a little bit about
- 23:23Speaker 5: your hockey journeys though, first, because and how the hell
- 23:26Speaker 5: you got into this world, because you guys are just
- 23:29Speaker 5: have a rich tapestry backgrounds and just amazing how you've
- 23:33Speaker 5: ended up where you've ended up.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a wild journey. We you know, the spark
- 23:39Speaker 7: notes of the hockey world. Born in Maine. Both played
- 23:42Speaker 7: New England Prep School. I'm actually repping it right now.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Yeah, nice, nice, nice.
- 23:46Speaker 7: Both played New England Prep, both played Junior's college. And
- 23:49Speaker 7: you know, eventually the well drives up, as it does
- 23:52Speaker 7: for most of us. And we actually moved to LA
- 23:55Speaker 7: to get into the movie business, started writing movies and TV.
- 23:58Speaker 7: Been doing that for over ten years now. And what
- 24:02Speaker 7: Chris three and a half years ago, yeah covid right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 7: We had written a TV pilot about hockey that some
- 24:11Speaker 7: execs read, loved it, thought we were funny, thought we
- 24:14Speaker 7: could maybe whip up an Instagram page and a podcast,
- 24:18Speaker 7: and next thing, you know, here we are and unbelievable,
- 24:22Speaker 7: people like you find us interesting enough to keep talking
- 24:25Speaker 7: into a microphone.
- 24:26Speaker 8: So like it was crazy though at the beginning, because
- 24:27Speaker 8: Dan's right, it was just a page. Like at the beginning,
- 24:30Speaker 8: they just wanted us to post memes on you know,
- 24:33Speaker 8: make jokes about the hockey season, and entertainment was completely
- 24:36Speaker 8: shut down. So we were like, whatever we're doing, we're
- 24:39Speaker 8: shooting pucks in our backyard all day anyway, we might
- 24:41Speaker 8: as well make jokes about this.
- 24:42Speaker 7: We legitimately it was like we just would post memes
- 24:45Speaker 7: and then highlight compilations to like E EDM music and hockey.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Like this is sick and it's amazing.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Somebody in Hollway's going, you know what, can you guys
- 24:56Speaker 1: just a traplet this a little bit longer. These memes
- 24:58Speaker 1: also put this into a teleplay. It comes to that
- 25:00Speaker 1: natural passion, right, Chris.
- 25:02Speaker 8: Absolutely, right, man, And there was head tation honestly at
- 25:05Speaker 8: the beginning when they wanted us to take it to
- 25:07Speaker 8: that next level of do a pod because at the
- 25:09Speaker 8: time it wasn't our face at all, right, we were
- 25:12Speaker 8: just this faceless page and pretty quickly because I guess
- 25:16Speaker 8: that was the AVS year, the AVS Cup year that
- 25:18Speaker 8: we started, and it was just the page. And then
- 25:21Speaker 8: going into that Vegas season, we were like entertainment was
- 25:25Speaker 8: coming back by then, and I was a little worried
- 25:28Speaker 8: that if we dove headfirst into this next thing. I know,
- 25:30Speaker 8: we'd be in a studio head meeting about a movie
- 25:34Speaker 8: we wrote and they'd be like, is this you on.
- 25:37Speaker 3: The phone, And I'd be like, Yeah, God, that is me.
- 25:39Speaker 2: That is me.
- 25:41Speaker 3: That's me and JD in Fort Lauderdale.
- 25:42Speaker 8: I don't know what happened, you know, so you know,
- 25:46Speaker 8: it's leap of faith a little bit.
- 25:47Speaker 7: But it were sitting in the sitting in the bed
- 25:49Speaker 7: MGM lounge.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Oh, just chopping it up, getting me in trouble with
- 25:53Speaker 5: Jason Robertson.
- 25:54Speaker 3: We'll get to in a little bit.
- 25:56Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean talk about like you know, now
- 26:00Speaker 5: that you've been doing it for a while and you know,
- 26:02Speaker 5: I mean, the craziest thing when you when you're guys
- 26:05Speaker 5: that aren't directly in the NHL and you're doing a
- 26:08Speaker 5: hockey podcast is the reticence of players to kind of
- 26:11Speaker 5: open up to you and and and be kind of
- 26:15Speaker 5: your buddies. And you've managed to and because you're great
- 26:18Speaker 5: guys number one, but you've managed to like rub shoulders
- 26:21Speaker 5: with so many athletes you're really close to true Dowdy,
- 26:23Speaker 5: like talk about that, like how how is your entry
- 26:27Speaker 5: point and how did you guys kind of attack this
- 26:30Speaker 5: a little bit to be like we got to make
- 26:32Speaker 5: sure that like we're doing right by the players but
- 26:34Speaker 5: also providing good content.
- 26:37Speaker 7: Yeah, I think for us it was you know, once
- 26:40Speaker 7: we got at the beginning, it was so scary, yes,
- 26:45Speaker 7: making takes and and claims about the NHL things that
- 26:48Speaker 7: we think are gonna happen, because in the beginning you
- 26:51Speaker 7: definitely have that feeling of where new faces we didn't
- 26:53Speaker 7: play in the NHL, our NHL fans gonna look at
- 26:56Speaker 7: us and go, what the hell do these guys know? Like,
- 26:58Speaker 7: I don't you know we say something's gonna happen that
- 27:00Speaker 7: might upset a fan, they're gonna lose their minds, call
- 27:04Speaker 7: us idiots.
- 27:05Speaker 8: So we were a little which still happened exactly.
- 27:11Speaker 7: So when it came to getting players on, Matt Dushane
- 27:14Speaker 7: was our first guest, and when when Duchy was coming on.
- 27:18Speaker 7: We had always said we wanted to be a players podcast.
- 27:20Speaker 7: We wanted to make sure that we were gassing up
- 27:22Speaker 7: these guys rather than tearing them down, because we can't
- 27:25Speaker 7: stand local radio TV hosts people like that who just
- 27:29Speaker 7: make a living off of trashing on players, trashing on teams.
- 27:33Speaker 7: So our big thing was every time you see these
- 27:37Speaker 7: guys do interviews, they're so pr trained. They do the team, team,
- 27:40Speaker 7: team thing. They never talk about themselves. They know exactly
- 27:43Speaker 7: what they're doing. What they're supposed to do. They follow
- 27:45Speaker 7: the lead of guys like Sid who have paved the
- 27:47Speaker 7: way on how to be a professional. So we kind
- 27:50Speaker 7: of thought, let's figure out ways to get these guys
- 27:53Speaker 7: out of their shell. And JD honestly like, the the
- 27:56Speaker 7: easiest answer to that is to do what we do,
- 27:58Speaker 7: and it's just talk to them like human beings. So
- 28:01Speaker 7: we don't need to talk about the power play all
- 28:03Speaker 7: the time, we don't need to talk about the fan base,
- 28:05Speaker 7: talk about their favorite food, talk about the music they're listening,
- 28:08Speaker 7: and all of a sudden, these guys start to be like,
- 28:10Speaker 7: oh cool, we're just having a conversation here. And you know,
- 28:13Speaker 7: our goal whenever we have an interview, we always say
- 28:16Speaker 7: is to get someone to say, while you've done your research,
- 28:19Speaker 7: or that's an incredible question. And those are those moments
- 28:23Speaker 7: where we do feel like you see their shoulders drop
- 28:26Speaker 7: a little bit in the interview and they go, we're
- 28:28Speaker 7: just snapping it around. We're just having a blast, And honestly,
- 28:31Speaker 7: with the guys like the way, we've been so fortunate
- 28:34Speaker 7: to develop relationships with people like you, JD, with with
- 28:38Speaker 7: guys like Drew, it's just these are our people.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:42Speaker 7: It's like I remember so clearly the day we had
- 28:46Speaker 7: been out here for almost a decade in la I mean,
- 28:49Speaker 7: working in the movie business, which is very political, you
- 28:52Speaker 7: got to figure out ways to navigate how you talk
- 28:55Speaker 7: to certain people, whether it be a massive producer or
- 28:58Speaker 7: an actor on the come up, there is a way
- 29:01Speaker 7: to sort of navigate that that takes a lot of finessing.
- 29:04Speaker 7: And the day we started really getting ingrained in this
- 29:08Speaker 7: NHL world, talking with players, talking with coaches, you just realize, like,
- 29:13Speaker 7: I love this community, I love hockey people. And it
- 29:16Speaker 7: was just so quick snapping back into this is these
- 29:20Speaker 7: are the type of people we grew up with and
- 29:21Speaker 7: spent our entire lives with, so to now be back
- 29:24Speaker 7: in it was such a cool blessing.
- 29:27Speaker 2: That's really well said.
- 29:28Speaker 1: One of the great scenes in the Sopranos early on
- 29:30Speaker 1: Tony is lamenting to Melfi. He's like, you know, I
- 29:32Speaker 1: didn't get in at the ground up. He's like, now
- 29:34Speaker 1: the mob is not what it once was.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Not struggling.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So you guys have seen this and again JD me
- 29:38Speaker 1: t how we've all been a part of corporations, organizations, projects,
- 29:42Speaker 1: When you.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Get to see the growth from the ground up. It
- 29:43Speaker 2: becomes much more fulfilling.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Chris, talk about that moment, certain players, certain moments you go, Okay,
- 29:48Speaker 1: this was just a thing we were doing as a lark,
- 29:50Speaker 1: me and Dan having a good time.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But now it's actually become a thing.
- 29:53Speaker 8: Man, I will never forget. There's a couple answers to that.
- 29:56Speaker 8: That's a great question. It's a good job.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Oh you got good job. And he got in he
- 30:03Speaker 3: got in lark.
- 30:04Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, that's really good. So, Uh, there's a couple
- 30:08Speaker 8: of moments for me. I think when we first started
- 30:10Speaker 8: to get play our guests. As Dan was articulating, that
- 30:14Speaker 8: was a cool thing because it was this definitely inflection
- 30:17Speaker 8: point in the pod where first it was just us
- 30:19Speaker 8: and now some guys are coming on. And then even
- 30:22Speaker 8: that first year, that first year went so fast for
- 30:25Speaker 8: us where we had at Winter Classic. We emailed someone
- 30:30Speaker 8: at the League being like, Hey, we have this show
- 30:33Speaker 8: and if you will give us because it was at
- 30:36Speaker 8: Fenway and we were home anyway, so I was like,
- 30:38Speaker 8: if you would give us passes to Winter Classic, Uh,
- 30:41Speaker 8: here's all the type of content we could get for you.
- 30:43Speaker 8: And they emailed us back right away and they were
- 30:45Speaker 8: like absolutely not. I have no idea who you are.
- 30:47Speaker 8: And I was like that's awesome, okay exactly.
- 30:52Speaker 2: So we were like, all right, whatever.
- 30:54Speaker 8: So Dan and I we decided to go ourselves. Let's
- 30:56Speaker 8: just buy tickets and we'll shoot all the content we
- 30:59Speaker 8: were gonna shoot that we can with a regular ticket,
- 31:01Speaker 8: and then we'll send it to them and just say
- 31:03Speaker 8: here's what we would have done, you know, or whatever.
- 31:06Speaker 8: And we did and then they answered that email with
- 31:08Speaker 8: passes to All Star Game in February and they were
- 31:11Speaker 8: like unbelievable, we want you to be here.
- 31:13Speaker 7: And I was like, okay, dude.
- 31:14Speaker 8: And then the fact that it was like that year
- 31:16Speaker 8: we were at media day, you know, and I'm sitting
- 31:19Speaker 8: in front of Kale maccar literally shaking av with a mic.
- 31:22Speaker 4: You know.
- 31:22Speaker 8: It's that scrum of media and there's like everyone's there
- 31:25Speaker 8: asking the most serious questions and I'm looking at our script,
- 31:27Speaker 8: which is like the dumbest shit, like oh could you
- 31:30Speaker 8: shoot harder than Happy Gilmour? You know, And I'm like,
- 31:32Speaker 8: oh god, dude, like are we about to get escorted
- 31:35Speaker 8: at here?
- 31:35Speaker 3: Like whove them?
- 31:36Speaker 2: They passed?
- 31:37Speaker 3: Who are they? You know?
- 31:39Speaker 8: And it's like the guys like it though, when when
- 31:43Speaker 8: you aren't just the normal thing, and I will I
- 31:46Speaker 8: will text you guys video after one of my favorite
- 31:48Speaker 8: moments in our whole careers, that first Stanley Cup, because
- 31:51Speaker 8: the same thing happened where a more media passed at
- 31:53Speaker 8: the Cup, right and at All Star it kind of
- 31:55Speaker 8: worked because it's it's All Stars.
- 31:57Speaker 7: Was that Miami that year?
- 31:58Speaker 3: Dan?
- 31:59Speaker 8: I think, yeah, right, yeah, So it's like at All
- 32:02Speaker 8: Stars we ask goofy questions.
- 32:03Speaker 7: All the boys laughed.
- 32:04Speaker 8: We're in Florida, it's the break.
- 32:05Speaker 7: Who cares?
- 32:06Speaker 8: Now It's the night before Game one of the Cup
- 32:09Speaker 8: and I'm at media day and I'm like, oh, dude,
- 32:11Speaker 8: I don't know if they're gonna laugh anymore, right, Like
- 32:13Speaker 8: this is now quite serious and Jack chel is sitting
- 32:17Speaker 8: there and I like to let the reporters ask their
- 32:20Speaker 8: real questions first. I kind of wait till it's fins out.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Ye, they're doing.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Yes exactly, Although it gets scary because then you wonder
- 32:28Speaker 1: if the players like annoying and the wants to leave.
- 32:32Speaker 8: And these guys there, these guys are pulling them out,
- 32:34Speaker 8: you know what. I'm like, So, so Jack's there and dude,
- 32:39Speaker 8: I'll text video he's like this, and he's like uh
- 32:41Speaker 8: huh yeah, like all the questions about the cop and
- 32:43Speaker 8: it's your first time and all this stuff. And that
- 32:46Speaker 8: season Dan and I had a running bet going about
- 32:48Speaker 8: however many points Jack I go score? Dan had to
- 32:51Speaker 8: eat that many shrimp cocktail because we were we bet
- 32:54Speaker 8: on and over under. So Jack is like sitting here
- 32:57Speaker 8: so bummed out. And then it gets to me and
- 32:59Speaker 8: I'm like Jack, Jack and he looks up and I go, Yo,
- 33:02Speaker 8: me and my brother have a bet with how many
- 33:04Speaker 8: points you score? He has to eat one shrimp cocktail.
- 33:06Speaker 8: I want to know does it extend the playoff points
- 33:08Speaker 8: or was it just regular season? And dude, you see
- 33:11Speaker 8: him like light up and he goes jumbo shrimp or
- 33:14Speaker 8: medium sized?
- 33:15Speaker 7: What are we talking about here?
- 33:16Speaker 3: Boys?
- 33:16Speaker 8: And he's just like so happy to just like chop
- 33:19Speaker 8: it up with the fellas instead of being just all
- 33:22Speaker 8: these boring cup questions. And I think for me, I
- 33:24Speaker 8: will always remember that moment where A it was such
- 33:26Speaker 8: a boost of confidence, but B it was such a
- 33:28Speaker 8: clear insight too. They just want to have fun too,
- 33:31Speaker 8: you know. And it really gave me a belief in
- 33:34Speaker 8: what you guys are doing, what we're doing what this
- 33:36Speaker 8: whole space is and that was that was awesome. I'll
- 33:39Speaker 8: never forget that moment.
- 33:40Speaker 5: I mean, that's Jack getting Jack Eichel showing any kind
- 33:43Speaker 5: of emotions.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Great.
- 33:45Speaker 5: Yeah, Dan, you talked a little bit about like, you know,
- 33:48Speaker 5: towing the line and hot takes, and you guys have
- 33:50Speaker 5: had a couple and you know, I go back to
- 33:52Speaker 5: the you guys out in the Edmonton oilers in the
- 33:55Speaker 5: playoffs about going to dinner before I was supposed to
- 33:59Speaker 5: when I worked this one playoff show two years ago.
- 34:02Speaker 5: You guys were supposed to do the show and you
- 34:04Speaker 5: kind of had a take that was fine in the moment,
- 34:07Speaker 5: but like you know, obviously there's overreactions everywhere, But like,
- 34:11Speaker 5: was there any takes where you guys are like, oh shit,
- 34:13Speaker 5: we're we're like done or this. I don't even know
- 34:15Speaker 5: if we can post this, oh.
- 34:18Speaker 8: Man, probably definitely repeat them out and repeat them.
- 34:24Speaker 2: What was your worst take of all time?
- 34:26Speaker 4: No?
- 34:26Speaker 7: I think I mean listen that that's the the benefit
- 34:30Speaker 7: of not doing a live show is if you get
- 34:33Speaker 7: too crazy with something, you can be like, oh, maybe
- 34:35Speaker 7: walk that back. But I don't know, I think the
- 34:40Speaker 7: I think we've been pretty good about. Anytime we've posted something,
- 34:44Speaker 7: there'll be times where people go nuclear in the comments, you.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Know what, j D.
- 34:49Speaker 7: The first one was this, I stand by this take.
- 34:53Speaker 7: I think MSG is an incredibly overrated arena. Wow, And
- 34:57Speaker 7: and we there you go. And we posted that and
- 35:01Speaker 7: obviously New York Rangers fans went zerk in the comments.
- 35:06Speaker 7: And what was funny is that was pretty early in
- 35:08Speaker 7: our days. And you know, one thing about the empty
- 35:11Speaker 7: Netaris community is there the greatest army in the world.
- 35:14Speaker 7: The engagement is always incredible. And that was early days.
- 35:17Speaker 7: And it was an Instagram post that had like eight
- 35:20Speaker 7: hundred comments and I was like, oh my god, we're
- 35:22Speaker 7: gonna get these people are gonna come at us with
- 35:24Speaker 7: pitchforks and torches to our front door. This is horrible.
- 35:27Speaker 7: And that was an early day of the you know,
- 35:29Speaker 7: being on the internet where our bosses were like, no,
- 35:32Speaker 7: this is good, this is what you want. But we
- 35:34Speaker 7: did kind of have a chat after that of being like, listen,
- 35:38Speaker 7: I stand by that take.
- 35:40Speaker 3: But it was more rats than fans in that building.
- 35:43Speaker 8: Correct, And some of them are both.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Come on.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Like firing up New Yorkers.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Yeah exactly. Oh trust me, I make a business out
- 35:57Speaker 7: of it now. But no, we did kind of have
- 35:59Speaker 7: a talk in that moment of saying, let's not let's
- 36:02Speaker 7: not become this. Let's not go oh wow, that was great,
- 36:04Speaker 7: look at this engagement. Let's keep posting stuff like that.
- 36:08Speaker 7: So yeah, I mean, I'll we'll throw a hot take
- 36:11Speaker 7: here and there, but I feel pretty confident in that,
- 36:14Speaker 7: you know, over ninety five percent of them. If the
- 36:16Speaker 7: person or the group that I was talking about that
- 36:19Speaker 7: I riled up came to me and said you're wrong,
- 36:22Speaker 7: I would stand there and defend it. And frankly, in
- 36:24Speaker 7: at Four Nations, during all the fights, you know, like
- 36:27Speaker 7: we we were posting videos of the fights, and I
- 36:30Speaker 7: think we posted something of the Brady the Brady Sam
- 36:33Speaker 7: Bennett fight where we captioned it like, you know, Brady
- 36:36Speaker 7: with the with the knockout or something and God bless
- 36:39Speaker 7: him the you know. Two nights later, bumped into Brandon
- 36:43Speaker 7: Hagel and he was like, that wasn't a fucking knockout,
- 36:46Speaker 7: And I was like.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Yes, it was.
- 36:48Speaker 7: I was like, you fucking hip tossed him and took
- 36:50Speaker 7: him down, and like the fact that those boys will
- 36:53Speaker 7: be able to just shoot the shit and joke around
- 36:55Speaker 7: like that is the best JD.
- 36:56Speaker 8: Though I will add to just answer that in another
- 36:59Speaker 8: light to it has been hard, not hard, But he
- 37:02Speaker 8: had an adjustment of after that first year, maybe how
- 37:08Speaker 8: much the guys in the league see and are watching,
- 37:11Speaker 8: Like I don't think that first year, oh man, dude,
- 37:14Speaker 8: like because I wouldn't even say something that contentious, like
- 37:17Speaker 8: I'd just be like that was a terrible play or whatever.
- 37:19Speaker 8: But then it's like the dude or his agent or
- 37:22Speaker 8: somebody was started reaching out being like they were pissed
- 37:24Speaker 8: about that, and I was like, oh my god, and
- 37:26Speaker 8: that not terrified me as just like a fan of
- 37:29Speaker 8: the league first of all, and second of all, as
- 37:31Speaker 8: a person running the show, you do have to walk
- 37:34Speaker 8: that line, or at least we feel like we do.
- 37:36Speaker 8: I know some people on TV just let it rip,
- 37:38Speaker 8: but I'm like, listen, I am not here to piss
- 37:41Speaker 8: anyone off for the most part, you know, so that
- 37:43Speaker 8: that's tricky.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Well.
- 37:45Speaker 5: The thing with it, too, Chris is like it's not
- 37:47Speaker 5: that the guys watch it, it's their dad.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Their mom, their friends.
- 37:53Speaker 5: And then you just get bombarded with like I don't
- 37:56Speaker 5: know how many times I had buddies like text me
- 37:58Speaker 5: be like, oh my god, I'm gonna who is this guy?
- 38:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna kill him.
- 38:01Speaker 5: He's he's saying you're just the worst player ever, and
- 38:03Speaker 5: I'm like, ah, it's and then he's like in the comments.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Like where do you live?
- 38:06Speaker 5: I'm gonna come kill you, And you're just like my
- 38:08Speaker 5: dad's like, does is not sleeping at night because some
- 38:11Speaker 5: forty year old three hundred pounds slobs that I had
- 38:14Speaker 5: a bad, bad game or something like that. So it's
- 38:16Speaker 5: just like it's just your surrounding environment. But it does
- 38:19Speaker 5: get to you, like a little bit. And but it
- 38:21Speaker 5: is tough to walk that line because you want to
- 38:23Speaker 5: be honest, but you don't want to make guys look
- 38:25Speaker 5: bad either because it is such a hard league to
- 38:27Speaker 5: play in all sports.
- 38:28Speaker 3: But it's absolutely it's really toning that line.
- 38:31Speaker 8: Especially in the like the finals, when so many eyeballs
- 38:35Speaker 8: are on the game and it's like someone has I'll
- 38:38Speaker 8: say an example, there was a stretch where it's like
- 38:40Speaker 8: I thought Stuart Skinner was playing badly, you know, and
- 38:43Speaker 8: it's like I'm like, oh man, McDavid must be pissed,
- 38:47Speaker 8: where he's like if I only had a goalie, you know,
- 38:49Speaker 8: And then I'm getting people talking to me like, dude,
- 38:50Speaker 8: Stud's like the nicest guy I've ever met, and you know,
- 38:53Speaker 8: he's going.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Through a lot of stuff.
- 38:54Speaker 8: He's like, I'm like, dude, I'm so because I don't
- 38:57Speaker 8: want Stuart Skinner to meet me one day and go,
- 38:59Speaker 8: I literally hate your guts because you were just gunning
- 39:02Speaker 8: me all playoff and I'm like, you're right. So there's
- 39:04Speaker 8: just I think there's ways to talk about it educatedly
- 39:08Speaker 8: but also politely, you know, and I try to always
- 39:11Speaker 8: air that way.
- 39:12Speaker 7: You know who I'm afraid of is the wives. They
- 39:15Speaker 7: see everything and it's like, yeah, you start railing on
- 39:18Speaker 7: a team. Next thing, you know, you go to the
- 39:20Speaker 7: game and all the wives walking by you glaring at you,
- 39:22Speaker 7: and I'm like, oh god.
- 39:24Speaker 1: It's like a game of phone Tech, right when one
- 39:26Speaker 1: gets worse and worse by telling first seething bad. All right,
- 39:29Speaker 1: let's test a little hot takes then McDavid. Everyone's still
- 39:32Speaker 1: talking about it. Dan, fire some people up. Where's he
- 39:34Speaker 1: gonna go? He's not going to Toronto?
- 39:35Speaker 7: Right, No chance, absolutely no chance. Listen, I I've fired
- 39:45Speaker 7: up oilers fans plenty. I think I think he's staying.
- 39:48Speaker 7: I think we're gonna get a short term deal done
- 39:50Speaker 7: two years, thirty million. I think, Oh, you mean you
- 39:56Speaker 7: mean thirty total. No, No, I think the PA. I
- 40:00Speaker 7: think I think he'll sign between sixteen and eighteen AAV.
- 40:04Speaker 7: And I think it's gonna be short term. I think
- 40:06Speaker 7: it's gonna be two to four years. I am officially
- 40:09Speaker 7: at the point. As much as I want to rip
- 40:11Speaker 7: a hot take here, I wish people would leave this
- 40:14Speaker 7: guy alone. Like it's just like every signal second he's
- 40:18Speaker 7: getting microphones shoved in his face, Like we can talk
- 40:21Speaker 7: about it, we should talk about it, but it's like
- 40:23Speaker 7: the poor guy's coming off a practice skate and it's
- 40:25Speaker 7: just like when you assigning, when you assigning, where are
- 40:28Speaker 7: you signing? But I will say I give him so
- 40:31Speaker 7: much credit for that no term comment like that was
- 40:34Speaker 7: that was, in my opinion, Connor McDavid's furthest effort of
- 40:40Speaker 7: saying shut up like he said that to be like
- 40:44Speaker 7: I can do whatever I want, and that is that's
- 40:47Speaker 7: that's as rude as he will get. And I respect
- 40:49Speaker 7: that so much about him.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he's gonna say stoking the flame.
- 40:52Speaker 1: It's interesting though, Chris, because it's like you imagine every
- 40:55Speaker 1: single older sense. Wait, no, term like no, it's his paranoia,
- 40:57Speaker 1: it's hysteria, like, don't.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Say that kind of stuff.
- 40:59Speaker 1: But like he's earned the right set whatever you want
- 41:02Speaker 1: to do. I just I can't imagine the situation when
- 41:04Speaker 1: he leaves Edmonton, but it's a lot of fun to say, Hey,
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm in Florida. I can't imagine Dallas, imagine Vegas like those.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I don't see him going to like a major market
- 41:13Speaker 1: in Canada. I don't think he's you know, clamoring somebody
- 41:16Speaker 1: should to arguement go to Tonoi's from Richmond Haileys.
- 41:18Speaker 2: I don't think he gives a shit Like no, I
- 41:19Speaker 2: think he wants to go.
- 41:20Speaker 5: He flies to Toronto on the days off when there's
- 41:23Speaker 5: two days off, so he's fine.
- 41:24Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, JD. I think you were getting
- 41:30Speaker 7: to it. I could totally see him leaving.
- 41:31Speaker 3: I don't think he's.
- 41:32Speaker 5: Going to I think he's I'm I think this is
- 41:35Speaker 5: him testing management to finally he's like, what are you
- 41:39Speaker 5: guys going to do?
- 41:40Speaker 3: And then he's also when.
- 41:41Speaker 5: You're thinking about it, he's like, well, if I take
- 41:43Speaker 5: sixteen to eighteen, do we have any room left? Like,
- 41:46Speaker 5: who do we is a room left to sign somebody.
- 41:48Speaker 5: He's like, we need you know, we need goaltending. We
- 41:51Speaker 5: need D, we need D. We need listen. We we
- 41:54Speaker 5: made it to the finals, but I could argue that
- 41:57Speaker 5: their team was better two years ago than it was
- 41:59Speaker 5: last year. And I know the Hyman injury is huge,
- 42:01Speaker 5: but he's probably like, show me what you're going to
- 42:03Speaker 5: do and I will sign then. And I and I
- 42:08Speaker 5: think he's earned that right completely to be like, listen,
- 42:12Speaker 5: they made it to the finals by committee, but large
- 42:15Speaker 5: in part because of him and Leon. I mean, it's
- 42:18Speaker 5: it is what it is, and sure they do other
- 42:21Speaker 5: worldly things. So I'm just like, you know, I think
- 42:23Speaker 5: it's really him taking a step, taking a step back,
- 42:26Speaker 5: which I think he's deserved and earned, and being like,
- 42:30Speaker 5: fucking show me something like show me that we're gonna
- 42:33Speaker 5: say competitive Chris.
- 42:34Speaker 1: To me, it's like someone says, what do you want
- 42:36Speaker 1: more the most money or to win and the.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Answer is yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I want both.
- 42:40Speaker 2: I deserve the most so you figure it.
- 42:42Speaker 8: Out, which he does, and I'm I'm aligned with you, guys,
- 42:46Speaker 8: But I one question or act to JD. I'll ask
- 42:48Speaker 8: you this because obviously the players are signing your own deal.
- 42:50Speaker 3: And I'm interviewing you here, not the other way.
- 42:52Speaker 7: Yeah, this is how I work my days off.
- 42:55Speaker 3: So is there.
- 42:58Speaker 8: As a player who's, you know, as a star player,
- 43:02Speaker 8: who's obviously like you're signing your own deals, but you're
- 43:04Speaker 8: discuss it with your teammates and your friends. If Connor
- 43:06Speaker 8: were to leave, certainly now, but even if he signed
- 43:08Speaker 8: a two year and then left, is Leon.
- 43:11Speaker 7: Like, what the hell, dude?
- 43:12Speaker 8: Like, Clearly there was conversation when I signed my eight
- 43:15Speaker 8: year ticket right or was there was there no conversation?
- 43:17Speaker 7: It doesn't work like that.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I I want.
- 43:20Speaker 5: The only reason I believe where I haven't fully said
- 43:23Speaker 5: he's gone is because of Leon. Because I did a
- 43:25Speaker 5: thing on Amazon Coast to Coast where after they lost
- 43:28Speaker 5: the first year, and like Leon like leaned over to him.
- 43:32Speaker 5: Leon was like, and I was just joking that. Leon
- 43:34Speaker 5: was like, don't worry, buddy, I'm gonna sign here for
- 43:36Speaker 5: like ten years. We're gonna play forever together. And then
- 43:39Speaker 5: Connor just turns around and leaves the next year. I
- 43:42Speaker 5: think they're too good at friends. I think they will
- 43:44Speaker 5: get it done. But I think, you know, that's the
- 43:46Speaker 5: only reason why I haven't fully just been like he's
- 43:49Speaker 5: fucking gone, and I know everybody's saying he's gone. I'm like,
- 43:51Speaker 5: people underestimate how close knit that core group of guys
- 43:55Speaker 5: as an Edmonton They're really really good.
- 43:57Speaker 7: It would be the most a two brute move of
- 44:00Speaker 7: all time. Yeah, if Leon signed, like is Leon was
- 44:04Speaker 7: the guy when was like I could see him if anywhere,
- 44:07Speaker 7: and then if Connor did, it'd be crazy. But what
- 44:09Speaker 7: you guys were talking about with we were looking at
- 44:11Speaker 7: it just yesterday on the pod. It's like I think
- 44:14Speaker 7: coming off the books for them is Connor, Henrik, eck Holme,
- 44:19Speaker 7: and then a couple of like three or four role players.
- 44:23Speaker 7: So it's like that money is like what you're gonna get,
- 44:26Speaker 7: you know, a bottom six and a third pairing guy
- 44:30Speaker 7: with that money. Henrik not making that much and ech Holme,
- 44:33Speaker 7: like you got to replace Eckholme's output. He's thirty five
- 44:36Speaker 7: right now and he's making four million less than that
- 44:40Speaker 7: type of caliber player. So if you're trying to replace that,
- 44:43Speaker 7: it's gonna cost way more. Connor's number goes up. He's
- 44:46Speaker 7: got the PA and his agents in his ear being
- 44:48Speaker 7: like you can't take some crazy team friendly deal, it's
- 44:51Speaker 7: gonna fuck over everybody else.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the shitty part about that. It's brutal. It's
- 44:55Speaker 3: brutal in his ear exactly.
- 44:58Speaker 7: So it's just like, yeah, it's you know, it's tough
- 45:01Speaker 7: because I agree with you JD completely is. I think
- 45:04Speaker 7: he is very much at this point. The guy just
- 45:07Speaker 7: wants to win more than anything. And I think he's
- 45:09Speaker 7: looking at Bowman and that team and going, how are
- 45:12Speaker 7: you gonna make this happen? Because they do not have
- 45:15Speaker 7: a lot of money and if he signs for seventeen mil,
- 45:18Speaker 7: they have no money. So it's like, all right, what
- 45:21Speaker 7: do you do now?
- 45:22Speaker 1: I do want to squeeze a little bit of movie talk
- 45:24Speaker 1: before we can let you guys go. Obviously, people often
- 45:26Speaker 1: talk about hockey movies, and I don't want to be
- 45:29Speaker 1: a contrarian cris Like, obviously Slapshot is great, and you
- 45:31Speaker 1: can have an argument for Miracle and Muddy Ducks.
- 45:33Speaker 2: But the one that I throw out though, the people
- 45:35Speaker 2: can go, huh, I got.
- 45:36Speaker 1: The Rocket, which is a great film, which is me Rocket,
- 45:40Speaker 1: like you can a really deep hockey movie, really good
- 45:42Speaker 1: movie Rockets. I think Rocket's a great movie. And the
- 45:45Speaker 1: other one of course again, being Canadian is goon.
- 45:47Speaker 2: What do you think more people.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Know because of Jay Bearshell and Liev Schreiber. But talk
- 45:51Speaker 1: to me about The Rocket. I think it's a great movie.
- 45:53Speaker 8: Dude, such a deep cut and great call by you.
- 45:56Speaker 8: Awesome pick. I would say less. I wonder what you
- 45:59Speaker 8: think about this, I would say less commercial, Like, if
- 46:02Speaker 8: you are a hockey fan, you love it. But if
- 46:05Speaker 8: I just show, like Jad you mentioned mister Lascar earlier,
- 46:08Speaker 8: we'll watch hockey movies with our friends that have never
- 46:10Speaker 8: seen them.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Darkenest movie ever. Yeah, it's crazy crazy.
- 46:15Speaker 7: The movie is it's really yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 8: But yeah, I was gonna say, I'll show movies like
- 46:20Speaker 8: that like Ducks to friends who aren't hockey people, because
- 46:23Speaker 8: I'm like, whatever, this is Hollywood, a fied enough that
- 46:25Speaker 8: you'll love it. But if I have a hockey fan
- 46:28Speaker 8: who's never seen The Rocket, I'm going I'm probably going
- 46:31Speaker 8: Miracle first, but then I'm going Rocket too, because it's
- 46:33Speaker 8: it's that awesome. If you're if you're in it already.
- 46:36Speaker 7: Okay, it's just it's just not mainstream, you know, like
- 46:39Speaker 7: there's no there's no big actors in it. It's not
- 46:42Speaker 7: you can tell you. Honestly, it feels like an indie
- 46:44Speaker 7: when you watch it. But yes, it is great and
- 46:46Speaker 7: if you're a hockey fan, you're gonna love it. But
- 46:48Speaker 7: you know what, I was having a conversation with someone
- 46:51Speaker 7: the other day about this other than Miracle, which I
- 46:54Speaker 7: would put up there against any sports movie as possibly
- 46:57Speaker 7: the best sports movie of all time, and I would
- 47:01Speaker 7: I would lightly nudge Mystery out into that bucket as Miracle. Well,
- 47:10Speaker 7: but this is what I mean. Every other mainstream hockey
- 47:14Speaker 7: movie is so goofy and silly, you know what I mean,
- 47:18Speaker 7: Like all the Ducks movies goon like you mentioned Slapshot,
- 47:22Speaker 7: Like they go for this silly slapstick vibe because it
- 47:28Speaker 7: feels like Hollywood for decades was just like no one's
- 47:30Speaker 7: gonna buy into like a dramatic hockey story. You look
- 47:33Speaker 7: at you look at baseball, football, Basketball, All of these
- 47:36Speaker 7: movies are these super dramatic, intense roles. And I'm like,
- 47:40Speaker 7: that's what we need. We need another hockey movie. I
- 47:43Speaker 7: think actually a TV show might get it done. That
- 47:46Speaker 7: just shows how excellent and intense and dramatic hockey can be.
- 47:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I would love to see like uh like, and
- 47:54Speaker 5: I don't know just because they've heard the movie like
- 47:56Speaker 5: just a dark hockey movie, like kind of a south Paw,
- 48:01Speaker 5: like the Boxing movie. It was like even I saw that,
- 48:05Speaker 5: I just saw that. I'm really excited to go see
- 48:07Speaker 5: him the football movie. I just think something like that
- 48:11Speaker 5: really dark dark, because there is a dark side of hockey.
- 48:14Speaker 3: It is what it is.
- 48:15Speaker 5: There's a lot of concussion stuff, injury stuff. You know,
- 48:18Speaker 5: there's there's been a lot of tragedy, and it's like
- 48:21Speaker 5: there's there's a dark side that you could really touch
- 48:24Speaker 5: on and really kind of play with.
- 48:26Speaker 3: That would be wild.
- 48:27Speaker 5: But I mean, other than you know, Miracle, it's hard
- 48:30Speaker 5: not to say slap Shot. I just think Slapshot is
- 48:33Speaker 5: so incredible for that vein. But this other sneaky one
- 48:37Speaker 5: that I love is his young Blood. I I've always
- 48:40Speaker 5: loved Young Blood because it's it kind of is dark,
- 48:44Speaker 5: but it is like just they don't know what they
- 48:46Speaker 5: didn't know what the fuck they were doing. But Keanu
- 48:48Speaker 5: Reeves is the goalie and it's like, what are we
- 48:51Speaker 5: doing here?
- 48:53Speaker 3: That movie is so that movie is ridiculous.
- 48:57Speaker 7: Yeah, it's so so absurd. I love that dude.
- 49:01Speaker 8: We're trying to get we Rob like, yeah, we're in LA. Obviously,
- 49:05Speaker 8: we've been trying to get Rob on the pod to
- 49:07Speaker 8: talk about it, and he's a few times he's been like,
- 49:08Speaker 8: I'm interested. So that's that's like my great white buffalo
- 49:11Speaker 8: right now, a young Blood breakdown.
- 49:13Speaker 7: He's pissed because JD, you know, Chris Nelson Nell, he's
- 49:16Speaker 7: well on a young Blood too, and Rob's not involved,
- 49:18Speaker 7: so he's pissed off.
- 49:19Speaker 5: I tried to I tried. I tried to get put
- 49:23Speaker 5: my hat in the ring to act in it.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Hell, yes, supporting JD. It's still skate quick with a quip.
- 49:30Speaker 1: He's funny, he's an actress.
- 49:31Speaker 2: But there's no reason Jada can't do it.
- 49:33Speaker 7: Then that, right, there is why we can't put our
- 49:36Speaker 7: support behind young Blood too.
- 49:37Speaker 3: It's like JD's not in it.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not going.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Jad was mentioning, guys, did you write for Taylor
- 49:44Speaker 1: Sheridan at all?
- 49:45Speaker 2: Obviously a massive powerhouse right now writing? Is that true?
- 49:47Speaker 2: Do you have Taylor shardan story for me?
- 49:48Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 49:49Speaker 7: So, well, we worked with Keith Cox is the president
- 49:52Speaker 7: of Paramount Network, and he's just helped crafted that entire universe.
- 49:58Speaker 7: And I mean just seeing like everything that's been built
- 50:01Speaker 7: throughout the Yellowstone Universe with Taylor, all the things that
- 50:04Speaker 7: he's working on, and now it's like, god, what is it, Chris,
- 50:06Speaker 7: he has like fifty shows now, it's dude, it's crazy.
- 50:08Speaker 8: Because I used to help produced, not produce. I was
- 50:12Speaker 8: on the network side. But with sun Dance TV, we
- 50:14Speaker 8: did a show called Close Up, Close Up with the
- 50:16Speaker 8: Hollywood Reporter, and it was like around award season, you
- 50:19Speaker 8: get a round table of five actors, five actresses, five directors,
- 50:22Speaker 8: blah blah blah, and Taylor was trying to act and
- 50:25Speaker 8: then he wrote he did Sacario, but he had done
- 50:27Speaker 8: Hell or High Water, which I loved.
- 50:28Speaker 7: I don't know if you got Jake. He's so under
- 50:32Speaker 7: the radar, but it's so good.
- 50:34Speaker 3: God watch it like five times, dude.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Same.
- 50:36Speaker 8: So he came on the show for that, and it's
- 50:38Speaker 8: a really close set because usually it's stuff hasn't come
- 50:41Speaker 8: out yet, right, So it's literally like the host and
- 50:43Speaker 8: me and then the producers. So after all having lunch
- 50:47Speaker 8: and then you can hang out with the people and
- 50:48Speaker 8: usually like the big actors take off, but Taylor was
- 50:51Speaker 8: just like kicking around and I was like, hey, dude,
- 50:53Speaker 8: what's up. I really liked the movie and we just
- 50:55Speaker 8: were having a bite and he was talking about yellow.
- 50:58Speaker 8: You know, He's like, I have this plant for this
- 50:59Speaker 8: TV show and I was like, yeah, man, it sounds cool.
- 51:01Speaker 8: But in my mind, I'm like, why, dude, you just
- 51:03Speaker 8: did two sick movies, Like why are you going to
- 51:05Speaker 8: bounce off the TV psych He makes like the biggest
- 51:07Speaker 8: TV franchise of all times, twenty spin offs.
- 51:09Speaker 3: He's a billionaire.
- 51:10Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, yeah, that was that was
- 51:12Speaker 2: very good.
- 51:12Speaker 3: So why do you do that? Yeah? Very good, sir.
- 51:15Speaker 7: And so you know what pumps us up is, you know,
- 51:16Speaker 7: he's got all of these projects in that incredible world
- 51:19Speaker 7: and that whole like Texas Midwest Vibe. And then recently
- 51:23Speaker 7: we had Taylor Kitsch on the podcast and he'd be
- 51:25Speaker 7: a big hockey player Canadian guy and talking to all
- 51:29Speaker 7: of them about you know, uh, Kitcher is on Friday
- 51:33Speaker 7: Night Lights. He's done these amazing shows. Taylor has this
- 51:36Speaker 7: whole universe that's just like this awesome, intense, gritty world,
- 51:39Speaker 7: and I'm like, this is it, guys, this is how
- 51:41Speaker 7: we make a good hockey show.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Like put it together.
- 51:44Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, like getting Taylor Kitchen involved like he
- 51:47Speaker 7: he was in Friday Nights as a player. Now he's
- 51:49Speaker 7: at a point in his career where he could be
- 51:51Speaker 7: an amazing coach type character. Taylor's universe is such a cool,
- 51:54Speaker 7: gritty world. I'm telling you, this is how stuff comes about.
- 51:58Speaker 7: So we get that cool dramatic hockey show.
- 52:00Speaker 3: Well, we could have the dramatics.
- 52:03Speaker 5: And I don't know if I've told you guys about
- 52:04Speaker 5: this about you know the blowback from my Jason Robertson quote.
- 52:08Speaker 3: If I told you guys about this, I know I
- 52:10Speaker 3: haven't heard what happened. What happened yet, we don't know
- 52:13Speaker 3: the blowback.
- 52:13Speaker 7: No.
- 52:14Speaker 5: So I was filming for body Armor in the NHL,
- 52:16Speaker 5: so you know, I was going to Michigan and I
- 52:20Speaker 5: was filming two days with two players, and I didn't
- 52:23Speaker 5: know who the players were. So it's like day before
- 52:25Speaker 5: and I'm like, who are we filming with? And they're like, oh,
- 52:27Speaker 5: we're filming with Luke Hughes and Jason Robertson, And I'm like,
- 52:31Speaker 5: oh shit. And literally as I'm reading it, you guys
- 52:35Speaker 5: post the clap of me shitting on Jason robers It
- 52:40Speaker 5: was a great take and I'm like, and listen, take
- 52:43Speaker 5: or not take.
- 52:44Speaker 3: You know, whether it was right or wrong.
- 52:46Speaker 5: I'm like, oh my god, and this is one of
- 52:47Speaker 5: those moments like there's no way he's listening. So I'm like, okay.
- 52:52Speaker 5: I'm like, I asked you guys to take it down.
- 52:54Speaker 5: I don't even know if you did. But so I
- 52:56Speaker 5: get to the rink and Andrew Ferns, who's helping out
- 53:00Speaker 5: with the shoot.
- 53:01Speaker 7: He'd be line fifth, fifteen out of ten.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Guy, amazing.
- 53:05Speaker 5: He be lines to me and he goes, hey, do
- 53:09Speaker 5: we have any problems today?
- 53:10Speaker 3: And I was like, what do you mean?
- 53:11Speaker 5: He goes, I was like, on the way here, listening
- 53:13Speaker 5: to your Jason Robertson clip and I was like no,
- 53:17Speaker 5: and he's like, He's like, you better hope that Robertson.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Didn't listen to this. So I'm like, holy shit. So
- 53:23Speaker 3: I'm on the ice with him.
- 53:24Speaker 5: So I walk into the rink and it's Robertson skating
- 53:27Speaker 5: with his He skates with his brother and Jacob Chickrid
- 53:30Speaker 5: so I know Chick. So I'm like, so I kind
- 53:33Speaker 5: of like walk around and I'm just walking and I
- 53:36Speaker 5: kind of yell at Chick like chicky.
- 53:38Speaker 3: So he like sees me be lines. What's up.
- 53:40Speaker 5: He's like, what are you doing here? I'm filming with Uh,
- 53:43Speaker 5: I'm just filmed with the NHL. Without missing a beat,
- 53:46Speaker 5: he goes, Robertson's pissed at you right now? I said up,
- 53:50Speaker 5: I said no. He goes, yeah, man, he goes, he's
- 53:52Speaker 5: playing the clip in the room. No, dude, he goes,
- 53:56Speaker 5: he's playing your clip of you shitting on him in
- 53:58Speaker 5: the room.
- 53:59Speaker 3: He goes, and I was like, oh are you.
- 54:01Speaker 5: I'm like seriously, and I'm like Jesus, and I'm like,
- 54:03Speaker 5: i gotta nip in the butt. So like now the producers, yeah,
- 54:06Speaker 5: for the show, you know producers that are oh my god,
- 54:09Speaker 5: they're just like all nervous. Everybody's like, oh my god,
- 54:12Speaker 5: like like you got to go smooth it over, like
- 54:14Speaker 5: like we got to get these shots, like we have to.
- 54:17Speaker 5: So Robertson comes on the ice and start shooting and
- 54:19Speaker 5: I'm standing on the bench and he kind of I'm
- 54:21Speaker 5: talking to chick and he be Line's over. And it
- 54:24Speaker 5: was so awkward at the starting because I was like
- 54:27Speaker 5: I just was like I got to go forward facing.
- 54:30Speaker 5: I'm like, hey you mad, I'm like, you mad? At me,
- 54:34Speaker 5: like you mad, and he's like, no, We're good, and
- 54:36Speaker 5: I was like.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Oh this shit, what I want. I'm like I wanted
- 54:39Speaker 3: like a little laugh shirt back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're good.
- 54:42Speaker 5: He kind of like shakes my hand and then he
- 54:44Speaker 5: just takes off, and then he was like really kind
- 54:46Speaker 5: of like asking like what are we doing? Why are
- 54:50Speaker 5: we here? And I was like, oh no, So I'm
- 54:51Speaker 5: like I got to figure out a massage this. So
- 54:53Speaker 5: finally we end up like we start to shoot, and
- 54:56Speaker 5: he ended up being like the best episode because like
- 54:58Speaker 5: I had no idea how analytical he was, to the
- 55:00Speaker 5: point where I was like, I'm a fan of yours now,
- 55:02Speaker 5: And I told him at the end, I'm like, listen,
- 55:04Speaker 5: I get what like your goals and stuff. I'm like,
- 55:07Speaker 5: you study so much of like the little nuances of
- 55:10Speaker 5: hockey that I'm like I understand you now. And I'm like, okay,
- 55:14Speaker 5: I'm like I'm a fan. I'm like I gotta eat crow.
- 55:16Speaker 5: But like I was like, I'm gonna have to fight
- 55:18Speaker 5: this kid, to fight Jason Robertson. You know, it's like
- 55:24Speaker 5: one of those things where he's like playing it cool
- 55:26Speaker 5: and then once they they say, hey, go action. He
- 55:29Speaker 5: was like in a two hand me behind the legs
- 55:31Speaker 5: or something.
- 55:33Speaker 8: Dude, bro, you're so right with I don't even I'll
- 55:37Speaker 8: tell you off air, but because I don't eve want
- 55:38Speaker 8: to bring it up again. But a while ago, but
- 55:41Speaker 8: not that long ago, I said something on a pod
- 55:43Speaker 8: that to me was a nothing burger. No names, I
- 55:46Speaker 8: didn't say anyone's name. I just like told this one thing.
- 55:49Speaker 8: And then after I saw the guys and they were like, yo,
- 55:51Speaker 8: don't do that like that. You didn't ask, and I
- 55:53Speaker 8: was like, oh, like one hundred percent of my bad
- 55:55Speaker 8: I thought that was in play and it wasn't. And
- 55:59Speaker 8: it was the it was like I'm not mad disappointed
- 56:01Speaker 8: type attitude, you know what was what was it? Ship?
- 56:05Speaker 3: Again?
- 56:05Speaker 8: No?
- 56:06Speaker 1: No, but it was like that I came live with
- 56:08Speaker 1: this pot to be over so we find out what
- 56:09Speaker 1: it actually was.
- 56:11Speaker 7: So you know what I mean. So they weren't.
- 56:12Speaker 8: I was ready for them to beat me back, like oh,
- 56:14Speaker 8: they're passed. But then they were like, yo, dude, that sucked.
- 56:17Speaker 8: And then I felt awful for a week, you know,
- 56:19Speaker 8: because I was like, sorry, dude, Yeah, so I totally
- 56:21Speaker 8: hear you where you just be mad?
- 56:23Speaker 5: Yeah, be mad, be bad, but like, like, let's hash
- 56:26Speaker 5: it out, like, let's brow geny as big as he
- 56:28Speaker 5: puts in the airing of grievances.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Just let me know where we're at.
- 56:30Speaker 8: Yes, dude, totally right, totally right.
- 56:32Speaker 1: That's no grievances here. Ever, these guys were awesome, man,
- 56:35Speaker 1: Danny Chris Powers. Make sure check out the Empty Nerves podcast.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Hopeing this is not the last time we speak. This
- 56:40Speaker 1: was great, great fun boys. Thank you have an awesome season.
- 56:42Speaker 7: Absolutely, boys, We'll come back anytime. This is whenever you want.
- 56:45Speaker 1: This is awesome, all right, More hockey talk was here
- 56:55Speaker 1: in just a second of a real quick cine file
- 56:56Speaker 1: and sixty I Like Me the new John Candy documentary
- 56:59Speaker 1: premiere of the Tip Festival.
- 57:00Speaker 2: Obviously rave reviews there.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Colling Hanks, the son of Tom Eggs, directed it, and
- 57:05Speaker 1: it seems like a real, you know, love affair for
- 57:07Speaker 1: one of Cana's great comics and a guy who clearly
- 57:09Speaker 1: loved sports. Wasn't a huge hockey guy, big CFL guy
- 57:12Speaker 1: John Canyon, former owner of the Toronto Argonauts, and Ryan Relinds,
- 57:15Speaker 1: one of the producers of it. Cannot wait to see it, JD.
- 57:17Speaker 1: I watched the trailer for it. I read a great
- 57:19Speaker 1: book years ago by Martin Nelman. It's called Laughing on
- 57:22Speaker 1: the Outside, and it just talked with John Candy and
- 57:24Speaker 1: all the challenges he had to overcome. Essentially, you know,
- 57:27Speaker 1: he said, when you were that big and everyone was
- 57:28Speaker 1: expecting to be funny, the pressures in the stress would
- 57:31Speaker 1: impact him. Heavy smoker, a drinker, obviously overeating, but beloved
- 57:34Speaker 1: by all.
- 57:35Speaker 2: And I cannot wait.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Once you saw the trailer, all the people were speaking
- 57:38Speaker 1: about him, obviously. Steve Bart one of my favorite comedies
- 57:40Speaker 1: ever Planing, Strings and Autobiles, which is where they get
- 57:42Speaker 1: the title, you know, Tom Hanks, Martin Short, etcetera.
- 57:44Speaker 2: This looks like a great documentary that will be all
- 57:47Speaker 2: the fields. If you're fan of Canadian comedy.
- 57:49Speaker 5: What's your favorite John Canny movie? Plan Strings and Aamoabile,
- 57:52Speaker 5: That's what it is. What's your second favorite?
- 57:55Speaker 2: Home Alone? No? Not home alone, Uncle Bucks?
- 57:58Speaker 3: Sorry? Yeah, home alone?
- 58:00Speaker 2: A cameon Home Alone, Uncle Bob.
- 58:02Speaker 3: I was like, was he the Pigeon Lady and home Alone?
- 58:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna go a great outdoors number two?
- 58:06Speaker 3: Ah? There you go?
- 58:07Speaker 5: Okay, I mean yeah, he kind of Canadian? All right,
- 58:10Speaker 5: don't CFL. That one got me. Yeah, I know that
- 58:12Speaker 5: he's the big CFL fan, not hockey. That's it's rare
- 58:15Speaker 5: and very rare.
- 58:16Speaker 3: That's okay.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Yeah, well you're gonna leave.
- 58:18Speaker 1: So no, I love the Argonaut's like really like okay,
- 58:20Speaker 1: love Condridge, Holloway him, Bruce McDonald, Wayne Gretzy co owners
- 58:24Speaker 1: back in the early nine He's got rocket, his meal
- 58:25Speaker 1: to the team. I never kept saying Gretzky's involved, like
- 58:27Speaker 1: he's just you know, throw a check in mcdowla.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Okay. John Candy was like the front facing guy. He
- 58:32Speaker 2: was agoing, he was locked in.
- 58:33Speaker 1: He's like the Jerry Jones of the Argonauts who was
- 58:35Speaker 1: very interested in the personnel and all that was going on.
- 58:37Speaker 2: So love the CFL.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Interesting comment from Rob Hudson asked about his son, Montreal
- 58:42Speaker 1: Canadian's defenseman Lane Hudson, not being invited to the USA
- 58:46Speaker 1: Hockey Olympic camp. You never know what happens in the future,
- 58:48Speaker 1: the Manitoba born Hudson said on a Habs cast, my
- 58:52Speaker 1: boys are also Canadian, So Papa Hudson seems to be
- 58:55Speaker 1: floading the idea of his son playing internationally for canad
- 58:57Speaker 1: There is press that Evan always knows Brett Hall born
- 58:59Speaker 1: in Belleville, Ontario, but fantasy passed over by Team Canada
- 59:03Speaker 1: for eighty six World Championships and then hell the grudge
- 59:05Speaker 1: the rest of the way like ninety six Wold Cup.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Now I'm playing for USA. You guys passed me over.
- 59:09Speaker 2: This's what we're gonna do. So what are the odds
- 59:11Speaker 2: in this case?
- 59:12Speaker 1: JD Lena Hudson plays for Canada even though he should
- 59:16Speaker 1: have been invited by Team USI.
- 59:18Speaker 5: I mean, he ain't getting invited to Canada, let alone USA.
- 59:21Speaker 5: It's so like, you know, there's I do. I think
- 59:25Speaker 5: USA messed up. I think they should have brought him
- 59:28Speaker 5: to the camp. Why not he was I don't think
- 59:29Speaker 5: he was making the team because he's Again, you need
- 59:34Speaker 5: to build the perfect rosters, so you can't have too
- 59:37Speaker 5: much of the same player. They got Quinn Hughes there,
- 59:39Speaker 5: that's his comparable. That's the guy that you spot you'd
- 59:42Speaker 5: be taking.
- 59:43Speaker 3: He's gone.
- 59:43Speaker 5: Then you got Zach Wrensky as well, so you got
- 59:45Speaker 5: your offense taken care of. You don't need any more
- 59:48Speaker 5: you need, you know, to round out your decour And
- 59:50Speaker 5: then you look in Canada, you got mccarr. You got
- 59:53Speaker 5: Jay Theodore, you got Josh Morrissey a fan of the show,
- 59:56Speaker 5: so you really just you know again, I love the
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: passion from the parents. You know that's great, but also like,
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: you can't become a hindrance or distraction to your kid.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: You got to just take a step back. I know
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: you're a hockey parent, you understand you're pissed, but listen,
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: just take a beat, take a breath. I don't think
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: it was this huge affront against him. I just think
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: they thought, well, we're just you know, we're just there's
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: a good chance he's not on the team.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: He's not on the team.
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: He's most likely obviously not, So why, you know, other
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: than the experience, why do we need to bring him
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: and hopefully it lights a fire under his ass and
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: you know, he shoves it up their ass. So it's
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: just like to me, it's it's just funny the reaction.
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: I love passion from parents, but I'm also like, just
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: don't fuck this up, like, because like, you're not gonna
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: play in Canada. So I'm like, I don't know what
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: what you think is gonna happen if you go to Canada.
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: I hope you got like a Kazakhstanian passport as well,
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: because once that's done, I mean, you know, it's just like,
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: don't bite the hand that feeds you a little bit
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: and just let him get ready for the season. He'll
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: have a nice break, you'll be able to stay healthy.
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: All those guys will be worn out coming back. He'll
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: be able to really get his team to the playoffs.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: And he's got a long career ahead of him, and
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: I do suspect and expect him, not suspect. I expect
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: to see him in the Olympics in the future. So
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: there's no there's no rush. You'll get there when you
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: get there.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Kiddo.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Work with Brett Hall of twenty sixteen World Cop on
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the Spin, of course, my doppelganger and your buddy Chris
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Chellio's And I told Hall just I'm a huge fan
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: of yours. He's a really funny guy. He's unspoken, obviously
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: an incredible goal scary.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: It just defends me. He did not play for Canada.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: He goes, listen, it wasn't my choice. They cut me.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: I said, no, but well, you get over that like
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: it was it was eighty six eventually, go, you know, now,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I'm good now he goes with my dad Bobby Hall.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: He was like, you take that grudge of the grave,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: so I get it.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: Are you a big grudge guy? I'm not a grudge guy.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: I think I let it go. Who cares? Fine, because
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: it's what happens.
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: If the ify all the grudge for every coach she
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: had to fucked me over. I mean I'd be I'd
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: be in a I'd be in a river somewhere, that's
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: for sure.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: I've been a milk carton. One.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: Guy's one of the more popular players in the sport.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Matt Rempey all over New York over the weekend six
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: to nine Rangers for It, made appearance the Nhlster in
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Manhattan before attend the New York Jets season for what
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: a game, by the way, you went there with Adam Edstrom.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Wild game.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: There's Aaron Rods still got it Steelers over the Jets.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Rempy clearly a fan favorite. He's all those guys JD.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: If you see him, obviously you're going.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: To know who he is.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Eight points in forty two games. But do you think
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: he gets a bigger role with the Rangers? Pun intended
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: with a new coach and some roster changes, I.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: Think you'll have an opportunity. I mean, you can't not
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: use that size. Him and Adam Nstrom, the you know
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: Edstrom that these two guys that can are big in skate,
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: you got to use that size. You look at the
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: Brian Boyles of the world like there's a role in
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: if these guys can skate and think the game, which
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: you know, Rempy took some strides in improving this offseason,
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: sorry last offseason, in the season, and you know, I
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: expect him to do it again. And I think he's
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: doing the smart thing, which is saying yes to all
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: the events and everything for the Rangers.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: They probably asking him.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: You want to become a fan favorite, become undeniable with fans,
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: and that sometimes will keep you around a little bit
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: longer than you know most fans would think, because you know,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: owners and gms and coaches aren't stupid. They know that
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: this kid brings energy to this team, brings energy to
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: the building. At times, the MSG building can be a
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: little bit of a mausoleum, and I just think.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: They second shot by the way MSG this podcast, I
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: like it. Keep going listen.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: I love MSG.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: When I played there the one time, the icon the
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: Walk up the ramp is amazing. Yes, it's a little
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: dark and the fans are far away. It's just what
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: I didn't like. I did fight at MSG, didn't last long,
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: but I was there. The gloves were shed. But anyway,
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: like Matt Rempey, So Matt Rempey being the Manhattan night
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: that he is now right hobnobbin with all the rich
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: folks in New York, all the libs, and he's, uh,
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: he's really endearing himself to the fan base in the organization.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: So I think he's gonna he's gonna get a look
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: for sure.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I like it smart to know as a guy who's
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: popular on the ice, but also hopefully on the ice
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: as well. Another topic here for where you're gonna close
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: this something special for Sabers forward Zach Benson got a
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: pretty nice return and his deal with teammate Josh Norris.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: So Norris is gonna wear number nine this season for Buffalo,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: previously Warren by Benson, who's gonna switch to number six? Now,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: what are you gonna do for me? Norri's gonna get
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Benson two designer bags? Ge do you hear this all
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: the time?
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: In all sports? Guy gets trade hates my favorite number.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Can I buy a Rolex and I do whatever it
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: needs to be. I've never heard quite two designer bags
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: in a jersey trade.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: If if you traded your jersey number for something for
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: your girlfriend or wife, I'm gonna lose it, right if that,
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: if they if those aren't like Duffel bags, like something.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: You're you, it's designer.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: He's like this.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: If it's like a.
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: Designer bag for his girlfriend or wife, I am just
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: gonna absolutely lose it because that is no. Take the
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: role X, take a yeah, take a role X, take
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: a pair of shoes, take a car if you want.
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: But like Jesus, don't do this, don't do this. Let's
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: not do this. Come on, designer, Come on, designer bags.
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: You're making enough money to get a designer bag. Get
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: her a coach bag until you're ten years in the
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: league and she's earned it, and then you go out
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: and get it. You get out whatever the other bags are,
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: Saint Laurent or whatever it is, the what is it?
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: What Jenny mccarth's name, I don't even know these these
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: bag names.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: What are the big bags?
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: But those are like big, But there's there's like another
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: level above isn't there like Hermes and all that stuff
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: and anyway, bag, yes, there you go.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Burking bag.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Talwold know it.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: I knew Talwon know Town's town knows it all.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Ben's is twenty not married yet.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: But I guess you see those guys priority go ahead.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: Just to wash the taste out of my mouth of
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: that designer bag, you know, and what I've seen in
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: my career, you know, I saw guys. I think it
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: was just guys to get a watch, Just get a watch.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Nice role us that appreciates it, you go. I know
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: Birkins appreciate too. And it's an investment, but it is
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: what it is. But to watch it tastes it in
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: my mouth. We got to talk a little baseball, please,
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: and we got to talk a little bit of cooking.
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: Oh my god, okay that cooking in the sense of
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: what is what was your guys take of the home
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: run that was hit. I think it was the phillies
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: and the father that grabbed the ball for his son,
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: and then the Karen that came running and was like
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: sporating this guy to the point that he gave gives
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: his kids ball away to this woman. She gets booed
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: out of the stadium. But who's more at fault, the
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: Karen or the father? The father you caught the ball.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Someone's attacking you saying, no, it's my blah blah blah.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: You gonna listen, it's for my son, blah blah blah.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: And then that's it. You just let it go. The
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Karen is obnoxious, But what do you expect from the Karen?
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Right, It's like the classic story of the scorpion going
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: across the river and you know, the buffalo asked for
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: a ride. Scorpius is no problem, scorpion hits him, they
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: both die. What do you mean, well, it's in my nature, Like,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: what do you expect I'm a scorpion, They're dealing with
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: a karen.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: What is that analogy? I've never heard of that.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, I could have told it better.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: But tewn those are a scorpion in a buffalo.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's in the It's in the Crying Game. Great,
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: great movie.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: But yeah, Forrest Whitaker's the Sira, a prisoner, and Stephen
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: Racer is telling the story.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: He's like, listen, you know the scorp and the buffet.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: They're going across the river and the buffalo is the
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: scorpion is ta get a ride, and the buffalo is like, no,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you're gonna kill me. He's like no, no, He's like, come on,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: he's a guy. We're trying to get across the river.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: And so then as he does it, scorp buffalo, they
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: both died together.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: It's like, what are you doing? I told you I can't.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: I can't help. It's my nature. So for the Karen,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: it's in her nature to be a Karen. She's not
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: going to be anything other than that.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: As a father, for him to turn turtle on his
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: son and not stick up fro, I'm like, no, this
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: is the ball. Like on some level, I get his
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: level of frustrations, like, Okay, I don't care that much.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: There's more important things than a baseball. Like if you're
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: gonna be a bitch about it, fine, But kind of
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: he's more at fault. If you want to ask a
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: very pointy question, who's the fault kind.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: Of him, you go ahead tell me.
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: I mean, I think that the internet is doing its
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: thing and this this woman is just getting absolutely shelled
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: shelled everywhere, rightfully, so rightfully.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: So I mean whole behavior.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: You can't really get behind that kind of behavior, and
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: of course he was caught on camera. I mean, I
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: thought the dad gave up the ball a little, a
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: little easily, you know.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I mean, I kind of get it. He's there with
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: his kid.
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: He doesn't want his kid to see some raving, lunatic acting,
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: you know, like that right in front of him, and
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: probably just wants to avoid a confrontation.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: It's easy for me to say because I haven't been
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: in that situation. I haven't taken my kid to a
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: ball game yet. But but talent, it would be hard
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: for me to give that up just for some you know,
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: just for some woman who's just yelling at me. If
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: someone was like, listen, if there was another kid, or
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: I don't know, some other some guy in a wheelchair
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: who knows what the situation would be.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Maybe some in a wheelchair, I like it rolling down.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: Can you imagine?
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: I'm just saying, you have to make a more compelling
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: case for that ball than like, Hey, I'm angry and
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: I want the ball.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I look, I think that I said.
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: Still, the dad is coming all off way more sympathetically
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: than this Phillies, Karen or whatever it is.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: They're they're calling.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: I think that I just don't understand why people act
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: like that in public.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: And I don't get it.
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: Oh people are unhinged. They're just waiting for their moment,
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: which crazy is. You know you talk like my my dad,
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: I think growing up I saw him getting too, like
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: three scuffles because people being douche canoes like like doing
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: that and my Dad's like, no, I'm not, and and
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: every time would end in us in the car home
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: being like, you don't let anybody disrespect you, don't let
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: anybody disrespect you had And we went in to carry
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: hot dogs in Montreal and it was one of the
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: all time great stories.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: I was like I was with We just finished a
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: hockey game and I was like ten years old, maybe
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: ten to eleven, And we go to this to carry
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: hot talks and we walk in and it's a very
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: We're in French speaking part of town. We all spoke French,
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: but we spoke English when we're in public together. Started walking,
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: we're speaking English. Head's turned. My dad's in his suit
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: because he he coached us, but he's also worked in business.
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: So we go to get to the counter to order
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: and there's you know, a big French guys sitting there
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: and he's got his hand on the table, and my
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: dad goes to walk by and excuse me, you know,
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: can I get by? And the guy like kind of
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: looks back and like giggles, and my dad goes in no, like,
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: excuse me, I want to go by, and the guy's
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: like mumbles in French, like dirty English, and then all
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: of a sudden, I just see this guy get dwarf
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: tossed across across the to carry hot talk. Them just
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: threw him out of the way and just and just
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: literally in French screaming like you think I'm English basically,
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: you know, we're French skated too, and then just a
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: skirmish ensues. My mom's getting him out of there, and
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: we're in the car and there's like my the kids
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: that I play with, like two of my friends that
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: I play hockey with, and my.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Dad's in the car. You know, anybody fucking disrespects you
