- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, everybody, Brian Smith here with the IA team series and your Daily Influence.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: And today I am going to talk about excellence,
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: without drama and drama is something I think that every business has to deal with.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm not talking about the drama of gossiping and everything.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about creating drama as a leader through the way that we lead and how we communicate.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest misconceptions in business, leadership and personal growth is that the idea that high performance has to come with chaos,
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: emotional, loud, constantly urgent, then important work must be happening.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: But mature organizations and mature leaders, eventually learn something very different.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: I know I have.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: Excellence is usually quiet.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: The best teams are often not the loudest teams.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: The best leaders, and always the most emotional leaders.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: The strongest organizations are rarely operated in panic mode every day.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: of organizational maturity is the ability that execute at a high level without creating unnecessary emotional friction around every challenge.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Smart management teaches us that systems create consistency.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Smart communication teaches us that clarity reduces confusion and throughout the IMT series we discuss how influence becomes more powerful when it is intentional, disciplined, and
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: responsible instead on reactive.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: Drum often comes from unmanaged expectations and consistent communication on clear accountability, ego fear or emotional immigurity.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Excellence comes from discipline.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Today I want to talk about how strong leaders and strong teams create high standards without creating emotional exhaustion around those standards.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of organizations unintentionally reward chaos.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: The person always putting out fires become viewed as heroic.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: The loudest voice in the room appears decisive, and the constantly overwhelmed employers viewed as committed.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: But often that environment is not producing excellence.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's producing instability.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Smart organizations understand something important.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Repeated emergencies usually point to repeated system failures.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: If every meeting becomes emotional, if communication constantly feels reactive, the issue may not be workload.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: The issue may need lack of structure, lack of clarity, lack of accountability, or lack of discipline.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: Excellence does not mean a motionless leadership.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: It means a motionally regulated leadership.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: The best operators I have worked with over my last 30 years
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's not always been me, by the way.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: I write often about my emotional reactions.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: I have used them as examples.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: The best operators, they're not passive, they're not weak, they're called.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because they understand that panic spreads faster than solutions.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: When leaders create emotional volatility, teams stop focusing on solving problems and start focusing on protecting themselves emotionally,
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: Smart communication teaches us that communication should reduce confusion, not amplify it.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Great leaders stabilize environments.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: They do not become the instability.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: One of the most overlooked signs of excellence is predictability.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: In mature organizations, swing wildly, good months, bad months, motivated, burned out, focused, distracted, organized, chaotic.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: that consistency is not accidental, it comes from clear expectations, to find accountability, repeated systems, strong communication rhythms, measured feedback, and disciplined follow-through.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is where smart management becomes incredibly important, because smart is not just about goals, it is about operational behavior.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Excellence without drama happens when people know
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: who owns what, when things are due, how communication flows, and what standards are expected.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: When those things are unclear, emotions fill the gaps, and this is true personally too.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: People who constantly live in emotional chaos often lack structure around priorities.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: They lack structure around boundaries, communication, and their decision making.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Not because life is easier for them, because they built systems that reduce unnecessary instability.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: And this connects directly to several of the recent episodes that we've recently filmed and shared with you, operating with intent, the discipline of consistency, decision velocity, and the neutrality.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: All of these topics point towards leadership, maturity.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: not theatrical.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes leaders confuse intensity with standards, but high standards do not require humiliation, fear or constant pressure.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: You can all people accountable without creating emotional exhaustion.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, accountability works better when people feel respected.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: The strongest teams
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: Now, that does not mean avoiding difficult conversations.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: Smart leadership absolutely requires difficult conversations, but those conversations should be productive, direct, respectful, and solutions focused.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Not emotional performances.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things we discussed around responsible influence is that influence carries responsibility.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: because pressure without structure creates anxiety.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Pressure with clarity creates performance.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's a major distinction, excellence without drama means solving problems without ego.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Correcting issues without accumulation, communicating directly without hostility, and obtaining standards without emotionally dragging the team.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, this applies to life outside of business, too.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: Others create stability everywhere they go.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: One of the greatest forms of influence is becoming someone whose presence reduces chaos instead of increasing it.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: That is leadership.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: So as we close to now, I want to think about this question.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Does your environment produce excellence or emotional exhaustion?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: High standards are important.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: Accountability is important.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: Discipline is important.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: But unnecessary drama is usually a sign of weak systems on a clear communication, emotional immaturity, or inconsistent leadership.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: Smart organizations create clarity, smart leaders create stability, and smart communication creates confidence.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: And over time mature teams learn that real excellence is not loud.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's disciplined, it's intentional, and it's repeatable.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: It also creates confidence instead of chaos.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you again for joining us today on daily influence and the IM team series.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: And until next time, keep growing, keep going, keep going, see the world around you in a positive way.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day.
