who are 6:35 these two old guys that can't figure out how to get a podcast working well the important thing is they 6:41 don't know the technology the important thing is they can hear us I think I might have figured it out I think we're good to go okay so 6:47 Kyle go ahead let's talk about where we left off last time was yeah Paulie and Rocky had the big fight in the garage 6:54 paully literally was punching Rocky in the arm he he asked for job Rocky said 7:00 all you have to do a is ask and the next scene is the infamous Rocky and Adrien 7:06 on the bed scene let's talk about that so we learn about Rocky here not only is 7:11 he a good boxer but he's also a vocals coach 7:17 so well first I want to back up a little bit in this scene you first see where Rocky lives I think you don't see that 7:24 before I don't know maybe that beginning scene you might see a little bit but you see his house you see they show a full shot of his house he lives in a really 7:32 gigantic Mansion I don't know how many square feet that thing is but it's certainly an improvement over the steel 7:38 frame and solid oak floors of the house in Rocky 2 so Rocky's obviously making 7:45 some Bank they're in his Swanky bedroom at the uh cushioned headboard it's a 7:50 beautiful house you're absolutely correct that's that's a good point this is the yeah we saw scenes during that opening Montage of Rocky 3 we saw you 7:57 know the Christmas and birthday we never saw an outside shot at the house so it definitely is a huge Manion very Swank 8:04 Rocky is moving up in the world he's his family is living the High Life absolutely living the high life so maybe 8:12 you could understand a little bit why Paulie was pissed he's living in that crap hole in South Philly you see Rocky 8:18 laying there in bed with Adrian Rocky doesn't have his shirt on he's looking ripped yeah it's fantastic it's our 8:25 first it's our first kind of in intimate moment that that we've had with these two I me we had them kissing on their 8:30 first date and then we had them um you know when they got married you know they 8:35 kiss and spoke to each other but now we see that Adrian's very comfortable we see now that Adrian's very comfortable 8:42 with a half naked Sly in the bed there and she's did good M this is where we first get the first hint of what's to 8:48 come after this scene Adrien asks are you really gonna fight that 8:55 wrestler he's none too worried but but she first asks if there's any problems with Paulie which I think we talked 9:01 about last episode sure but touch on that again well Rocky says you know nothing uh nothing unusual which 9:08 probably isn't a lie this crap probably happens at Paulie on a f fairly regular basis we know at least one time when he 9:14 was swinging a baseball bat at them and their relationship survived that so you know there's probably lots of moments in 9:20 the that time where Paulie does crazy things like that Paulie causes issues for these two and that's kind of hinted 9:26 out with this conversation and then Rocky comes out to the bed down next to her an Adrian says hey you got to really fight that wrestler and he says Ah 9:32 that's all right it'll be fun yeah yeah he has no idea what's 9:38 coming the segue is hilarious because you know they go from talking about Paulie then she asks about the wrestler 9:44 and then he goes you mind if I serenade you mind if I serenade 9:51 you yeah well you think he's trying to get laid I think he is I think he had wants 9:58 to de-stress from that fight have some intimate time he's he's he's showing off 10:04 the B here and I think he figures his next move is a little bit of serting that's my theory at least and sure what 10:12 I love is that he's still good to go here I mean this is what three four five in the 10:18 morning yeah that's right although I guess if he doesn't have to work in the morning I guess he kind of does actually 10:23 he has to go fight thunder lips but he's obviously none too stressed about that but yeah are we to believe I guess we're 10:29 to believe in the timeline of the movie that the charity match is taking place immediately after the scene but we can 10:34 assume that this could be a week before the fight two weeks before the charity but it's not presented that way it is 10:40 kind of presented that he bails Paulie out of jail what two or three in the morning he gets home has a conversation 10:46 with Adrien and he's like he's so awake it's so good to go that he's like so non-stressed about fighting thunder lips 10:52 and he's like uh let me serenate you and this is where he goes into the uh the famous d do 11:01 do what your what are you doing you can do it no hold on hold on Ryan I I wrote 11:08 something down and I was watching this just 10 minutes ago she tries to get out of this the seraing she tries to make up 11:16 an excuse which makes no sense quiet Rocky you're going to wake the baby come 11:21 on Rocky going to wake the baby let's do a now two things here two things one 11:31 there's no baby the that kid can talk and walk around so any anytime anytime your child can 11:39 wipe its own bum properly and pour its own bowl of cereal properly it's good to go two the second thing is is that house 11:46 is ginormous I'm sure the kids room is not that close by probably and they 11:51 probably have a nanny or something for so that's just [ __ ] that's oop sorry for the language that's uh yeah not by that 11:59 Adrian Rocky walks right through that he just he's like yeah whatever I don't care if weeks the kid she goes what are 12:05 you doing come on and he goes come on you can do it oh yeah yeah yeah and I love how like I love I love how when she 12:12 tries to do it she she she goes do 12:18 do it's like do okay so let's just pretend for a 12:24 second let's just pretend let's let's role play here for a second Kyle okay I'm are you rock well no no I'm Ryan and 12:32 you're Kyle okay we're just gonna role play here okay hey Kyle Kyle do you mind if I serenade you uh not at all Ryan not 12:39 at all I was hoping you would okay and I want I want you to repeat back the serenade that I've given you and now 12:46 you've never heard the song before but let's see if you could do it want to play along I'm feeling a little pressure 12:51 but sure okay Fi Fi fif you mean 12:57 f it's like all you have to do is phonetically repeat what I've just 13:03 said she's incapable of like it's okay if you can't sing or don't know the song But if I 13:10 say you know and then you come back and go dip D 13:15 do you know what Rocky should have said to her this is exactly what Rocky should have said to her this exact moment and 13:21 he missed this big time he's showing like it looks like you're the one that can't sing or dance yeah touche to 13:30 sh but that'd be mean that would ruin his chances and his ultimate objective here oh I was going to mention something 13:35 and I just it just slipped my mind oh shoot continue I'm sure I'll remember it 13:40 later so got say something else about this scene this is bad podcasting anyways let's just keep going no you're 13:45 doing fine I think it's funny that he's singing this particular song this is a song he just heard some guys sing on the 13:51 street in the first movie and so maybe it's not like it's a popular song it's it's presumably a song that guy made up 13:58 okay keep going let's talk about that because the rocky character is singing a song 14:05 from the movie soundtrack now but the song doesn't exist outside the movie 14:11 like in the movie World the song exists in the movie universe but it exists as a 14:17 song sung by Street people around a burning Barrel in the corner of Philadelphia which arguably is what 14:23 Rocky's most familiar with but that's one of many songs the real reason this song was sung I think we both know why 14:29 is I think uh Sylvester Stallone's mission is to try and make his brother as successful as he possibly 14:37 can that song I checked that song was written by Frank Stallone performed by Frank Stallone uh in the first movie 14:44 Frank Stallone will appear later in this movie I don't know if you guys talked to it before but uh they tried to get Frank 14:50 Stallone to be one of the title defenses against Rocky in that opening clip we haven't talked about that but on that 14:57 same vein there's actually you go on YouTube there is a video seen yeah 15:03 Stallone and Stallone yeah Frank and slly duking it out apparently got pretty 15:08 serious got kind of heated there yeah the one I saw was Frank was just going crazy at him in the quarter and then Sly 15:17 just hit him once and he went down that's the what I saw but yeah so 15:22 it it seems to me that uh nothing gets Frank Stallone like he uh I think he's a 15:29 talented musician seems like a nice guy in all the interviews I've or I've seen him on he has an awfully big Shadow next 15:35 to him in his brother and I think his brother's trying to help him get big but it's uh well his family loves his 15:42 brother and I think they really do love each other like on Instagram even at their age you see them on Instagram 15:47 together at each other's house hanging out so Stallone has I mean yeah Sly has 15:53 always been there for his brother and but to be fair Frank has a pretty comparably successful singing career to 15:59 a lot of artists out there like if he goes on tour people show up yeah that's what I mean like Frank if uh say slly 16:06 didn't exist and Frank Stallone had the exact same career he does now then it'd 16:12 be pretty impressive right but the thing is is because you have that last name you're automatically compared to this to 16:18 your brother right and so it's like oh well you're not nearly as successful as him well most people aren't you know 16:25 like a very small handful of people would be so like I said I didn't want to get dig at Frank necessarily but 16:32 uh just in case Frank's watching obviously oh of course he's watching thank you Frank we appreciate your 16:37 support Rocky is now correcting Adrian saying that's good but it's mean that they're very lucky 18:42 they'll have to keep singing that I don't know I think she's saying yeah I think she's playing along saying it we're 18:48 lucky that you have forgotten so I don't have to hear you sing you don't make me sing and we can just move on but then 18:54 Rocky gives one more romantic D D D D just before he starts macking out with 19:00 her the rocky strategy seemed to have worked he's not called the stallion because of his strength in the ring yeah 19:07 that's true here's a little bit of trivia what charity was Rocky wrestling 19:13 for oh man um I don't know I don't know 19:18 well know I'm looking right at it the youth league benefit I was gonna say something about 19:24 kids Frick but no no I wouldn't guessed that specifically though I love how it's 19:29 the youth league like hey what where you going tonight oh me and Charlie we're 19:36 heading over to the youth league yeah like what do they do are they just a 19:41 league of Youth New York could be the youth league is this I don't understand what that 19:46 means Youth League maybe it's like the YMCA or something like that says here that the youth league benefit presents 19:52 Battle of Champions Rocky bboa versus thunder lips and they have here Thunder 19:58 as being one word by the way one word thunder lips yeah so ringside we have 20:04 Dennis James with Jim Healey yeah what happened to Bill baldwood and St Nan 20:09 maybe they're that's just too low brow for them to them to comment on because they were there for the club Lang fight 20:15 but yeah this is a different event I mean it might involve Rocky bboa but it's not it's not commissioned by the 20:20 boxing boxing people so we know that all the and then you have that announcer guy too though he's like right beside them 20:27 he has like the really crazy mustache yes and you see him in the next movie you know the job's a job right you know 20:33 he'll announce the youth league benefit and he'll also announce the championship match all the proceeds are going to 20:39 charity so Rocky's not making a dime off this you got rocky in the ring he's cheering to the crowd he's waving you 20:46 know this he's having you can tell on his face he's here for a good time he's here for the Youth he's here for his community just to put on a little bit a 20:52 show here yeah he's not worried at all he just thinks it's it's probably what if you this did happen in real life 20:58 which maybe it has I don't know if it did I'm sure they'd just be goofing around right it would be nothing like 21:03 what we're going to see here yeah they're definitely just goofing around so Adrian's looking pretty as always at 21:08 ringside with her son Robert Jr well he's not a baby but he's between four and six it's I would say he's between 21:14 four and six I don't know if you know this about Robert belbo he has some properties where he could change age 21:20 very quickly he could be a baby one moment and then four or five years older 21:25 just a different moment right that's true Rocky's kid does age very weirdly in 21:31 this series but so far the first three it's pretty it's pretty spot on it's pretty it's pretty good I just Mak it 21:38 fun a little bit no but the biggest jump as we know and I can't wait to talk about the biggest jump of course will be from four to five that was one I always 21:45 say this one long layover between flying from Russia back to uh California definitely he doesn't live in California 21:51 he stays in he stays in Philly now we talked about in one of our earlier podcasts but the actor that played the 21:56 sun do you know about him uh um in this movie or in five no no in this movie the 22:03 the child actor that plays rock or Robert Jr no I don't know anything about this kid uh yeah well she is our age she 22:11 transgender yeah so the actor as transgender Robert Jr is now Roberta Jr 22:18 sorry okay cool we want to get her on our podcast I haven't contacted her yet so actually seeing this reminds me I 22:24 actually want to get her on the show because one I want to talk about her experience as a child being on the instead of Rocky 3 and being they ask you know what's the uh what's the outcome for this match the you know the the wrestler versus the boxer what's the outcome 22:48 going to be yeah AEL theory is that the wrestler once he grabs that boxer That's All She Wrote yeah he's like well the 22:54 the age-old theory is which I guess it's been discussed okay okay I love it the AG old Theory 23:02 yeah there been like a Fighters Guild where they discuss is once the re the wrestler gets 23:08 a hold of the boxer then that's the end or there she wrote or something like that that's so interesting oh can I I 23:15 want to say something speaking of the audience but we see Clubber Lang in the audience watching the fight yeah yeah 23:20 he's in well he's in the beginning Montage we talked about that that he's in the beginning Montage so he's definitely in the audience of this fight 23:27 yeah well he's stalking he watches all the rocky fights live in person so he's kind of stalking him but I noticed 23:33 something interesting about clubber here he's like uh am I going too far am I too ahead here I haven't gone to that yet 23:39 they just finished the theory okay never mind I'll I'll just comment about once once we see him I want to make an 23:45 observation there too Mickey now ask Rocky what the hell goes on inside your head anything normal oh yeah what the 23:52 hell goes on inside your head anything normal functions there a few a few I 23:57 don't think so because to fight a creature like this you got to have about 100 lb of brain damage yeah I love how 24:03 he's just I love how he's he's choosing now to have this argument with Rocky in the ring like yeah well he says some I 24:11 can't remember what it is or I know you could see the caption but he says something that's not like proper English 24:16 but he's talking now he goes I've seen wrestlers that were bigger than dinosaurs I've seen wrestlers that was 24:22 bigger than dinosaurs you ever fight a dinosaur kid no not L they can cause a variety of damn it 24:29 yeah yeah Mickey obviously doesn't have much Faith no one really it seems like Rocky's the only one that doesn't know 24:36 what's gonna happen huner knows Mickey knows Paulie soon knows he's like you 24:41 ever fight a dinosaur they can cause a variety of damage yeah 24:47 yeah now these lines by Mickey they're so great a how he delivers them and I 24:52 always wonder though is this all Stallone's writing or is this Bridges Meredith winging some things I really 24:58 want to know which is which or is a bit of both well I think this sounds like Stallone that's kind of almost the way 25:04 Rocky talks too he says variety like that in one of the films something like a large variety of dogs or something 25:11 like that or he says large variety of something okay earlier in in one of the 25:17 two films so I'm thinking that's probably stillone writing the script oh okay so now thunder lips is entering the 25:23 ring now keep in mind this is now we'll talk about it the the actor the actor 25:28 playing thunder lips is playing a wrestler and he's a wrestler in real life obviously we're talking about Hulk 25:34 Hogan now this was 1982 so this was 35 years ago how old 25:41 was Hulk Hogan in 82 let's find out he would have been about 30 or so like I think he was born in the 50s sometime 25:48 yeah he was born in so he was 29 years old here yeah yeah 25:54 which he he looks older than that but that's kind of what we were saying people in the past looked older it seems it is weird yeah like he's 12 26:02 years okay okay look at my face look at my beautiful face now think of thunder lips in Rocky 3 this face that you're 26:09 seeing now is 12 years older than thunder lips yeah you guys look what the same age really like he looks similar it's 26:18 wild maybe he looks a little older because of the mustache but I'm 33 so he'd be like I'd even be a few years 26:23 older than he would be in that scene so I don't know Paulie sees thunder lips in 26:29 the crowd and he he's like why are they carrying them and mix's like they're not why are they carrying them he walking 26:36 he's walking yeah I love that one sec what is going on here the camera's not switching back figuring out I'll uh say a couple things about the thunder lips here he's disliked by the crowd 27:06 everyone's booing him and he seems to enjoy that I think he he likes being the villain he has his Entourage of of 27:13 ladies with him who are are very uh good-looking his Persona is kind of like 27:18 almost kind of like a sex thing which is weird for a wrestler like it's thunder lips and then he's like I've he said 27:25 something sexual when he went up to the mic to announce himself like it's kind of odd yeah he goes okay one sec well 27:31 let's first talk about his yeah his name thunder lips that me it's a horrible name let's let's 27:37 just yeah it's really bizarre yeah I used to watch what was WWF as a kid uh I 27:44 don't remember any characters with names like that unless they're one of those ones that you never heard of that were 27:50 obviously there to lose which some of Hulk Hogan's caliber certainly wouldn't be okay so yeah so Hulk Hogan at this 27:57 time is 29 years old and I don't think he during the filming of this film I don't think he had what broken or very 28:06 close to being he was he wasn't quite the Hulk that we know today I think I think now of course there's going to be 28:11 some wrestling Fanatics out there but I know when the movie was released he was big but you have to keep in mind films are usually filmed a year to year almost 28:18 a year to bit before the released I think principal photography when it took place when Hogan first joined the 28:24 wrestling world he was actually a heel he was a bad guy and so in this movie oh 28:30 yeah that's right yeah so in this movie He plays a heel so I remember when I was a kid I knew who Hulk Hogan was and so 28:37 when I saw him coming out playing thunder lips I remember being like ah that kind of sucks he's not the wrestler 28:42 he's not Hulk Hogan he's thunder lips he's a pretend wrestler you know ironically so I remember when he came 28:47 out and then he was bad like kind of a jerk you know even as a kid I knew that I didn't get the sexualization that he 28:52 was doing because I was a kid but I knew that he was kind of a whatever my brain 28:58 as a kid could understand that he was a jerk he wasn't very nice he seemed really angry and wanted to hurt Rocky I 29:04 didn't understand that so I I remember even as a kid being disappointed a little bit that my hero in wrestling 29:09 that I thought was real and all that stuff at the time was kind of a jerk to my other hero which was rock yeah that's 29:15 kind of two competing uh clashing worlds for you I didn't research this right 29:20 before did the podcast here so my memory's foggy but if I recall correctly 29:25 Vince McMahon when he saw this come out was pissed he did not like that Hulk 29:31 Hogan did you're you will never work here again H I went and did the movie comes out everyone's booing everyone's booing 30:44 thunder lips Mickey say let's call it off and then Rocky's like come on it's for charity man 30:50 relax yeah I love this scene I love this sles let's call it off a come on it's a 30:56 charity you're wearing your anatom out for charity nobody else does this much for charity Bob 31:02 hwood that's true thps is coming out there I'm I'm coming after you B 31:07 Bo I'm coming after you B yeah Mick's 31:12 like why are we going to do this for charity no one else does this for charity and then he's like Bob hopewood 31:17 and Mickey's like yeah it's true he seem kind of surprised that Rocky said that I almost wonder if uh 31:25 that was like I don't know ad lived or something I've always wonder what for these movies in movies in general there is a lot of 31:31 adive like everything we see is not the first take you know there is dialogue that they memorize but the actors are 31:36 just people get bored on set who knows what they what kind of banter they have and yeah what Rocky says Bob Hopwood I 31:43 love Mickey's expression is like yeah yeah you're right about that yeah which is you don't hear Mickey say stuff like 31:49 that very often the announcer says you know here comes thunder lips what a sight all decked out in red the 31:56 wrestling champion of the world now entering the arena I'm telling you he is quite aide all decked out in 32:03 red what what is what what a description for the audience old decked out in red 32:09 his robe is horrible absolutely horrible it's got the big silver lips on the back 32:14 of his red rope it's like just put a the back of that thing you might as well just [Laughter] 32:23 get see that's part that be for 22 38:29 in no yeah my pipes are about uh yeah so the announcers say a man who calls 38:35 himself the ultimate object of desire a man who calls himself the ultimate 38:42 object of Desire what the sex thing is so weird like we're not done yet he's 38:48 the mountain of molten lust the mountain of molten 38:55 lust so it's clear right now Thunder lips is a sex addict there's no way 39:00 around it potentially he's a criminal he's a mountain of M lust that 39:07 come on that's pretty good like when Salone was writing these these nicknames 39:13 for his for thunder lips I wonder if he was hearkening back to his card party at Kitty and stud days yeah don't get 39:21 it oh man well is like a mountain it's like a volcano you know just waiting to explode right I know that's think of 39:28 he's a melt mountain of molten lust like there's no innuendo whatsoever 39:36 none I can't think of any oh my goodness okay thunder lips kisses the sky after 39:41 he's announced and he yells the crowd you're all trash you're all 39:48 trash it's like I love it I love it and then the 39:53 far Corner the Slugger from Philadelphia and The Crowd Goes Wild the Slugger from 40:00 Philadelphia with the crow goes well for Rocky uh fter lips goes insane he gets 40:07 angry a how could they cheer for Rocky he goes you better shut up better shut 40:12 up I'm gonna break him in half like this break in and then Rocky's like hey 40:20 uh how much do you think he eats how much do you think he eats about 202 lb wait 202 lb the reigning 40:30 heavyweight champion of the world Rocky B and then Mickey's like uh about 202 40:40 pounds the announcer's about to say in this corner way 202 pounds the timing could have been more 40:46 perfect then Mickey's like oh yeah I'm right he was pretty he was pretty proud 40:51 of himself with that yeah so Stallone here is looking incredibly in shape it's amazing the 40:58 shape he's in it it's like a gigantic which is interesting because his 41:03 fighting weight in the second movie was identical at 202 pounds so he hasn't lost or gained any 41:09 weight but his physique is completely changed I don't know what his actual weight is like if like the Stallone's 41:16 weight was when he did this I'm sure it was different though than in the second movie I don't think it was as heavy as 41:23 they're saying in this movie and they kind of allude to that in the film about how he slimm down a lot right um a a 41:30 little spoiler in the second fight he Slims down to 190 lbs which barely makes him a heavyweight 41:37 no no no SC there that's fine now we get our first sighting of Clubber Lang just 41:43 was just after Rocky Balboa's announcement that they showed clever now what I love about clever is he's dressed 41:49 he's dressed for the event yes yeah that's what I was going to say he's in a tuxedo not just like a suit but like he 41:56 looks like he's going to a wedding or something like that well I love how it's a charity event here's a guy who's like 42:02 he got the feeling he's kind of poor you know like he doesn't have a lot of money but we saw during the opening Montage he 42:07 went to like six championship fights those can't cost a pretty penny to watch to watch Rocky in the ring but we see 42:14 that he's got money for championship fights to attend all those yeah he lives in Chicago a lot of these fights were in 42:20 New York they show things of like Radio City Music Hall and other New York landmarks when you're having these fights right so probably none of those 42:28 fights oh some was in Caesar's Palace in Vegas so clubber would have had to hit the road unless he had a fight already 42:34 in one of these cities but it's just a movie all right so now we've got that 42:40 Infamous scene where Rocky and thunder lips meet each other in the center of 42:46 the Ring yeah and thunder lips oh well actually oh never mind yeah they haven't 42:51 actually started fighting yet right they're just touching glove whatever yeah this is where the ref's giv the 42:56 rules and what I love is like we often see Stallone kind of filmed in a way to 43:02 make him not seem so short with his co-stars yeah yeah so in this scene they totally play to Stallone being shorter 43:09 to make fed lip seem that much more of an opposing giant yeah is Hulk Hogan 43:14 really near seven feet tall uh I don't think he's five feet tall well no what 43:20 yeah what to try to say he's probably closer to seven feet than he is to 5 feet well I know that but I'm uh I'm 43:27 curious to see like if Hulk Hogan is 7 feet tall Rocky's 5'9 that's a massive 43:32 height difference like uh he is exactly 2 meters tall okay so he 66 or 67 67 43:41 good job so if he's wearing boots he can be about 69 so 68 so pretty tall so he's 43:47 about he's about a foot taller than rocky yeah and about 100 pounds 43:52 heavier say in real life that is quite a difference yeah absolutely yeah that'd be like me fighting like some 44:00 12-year-old who's like super skinny right like it wouldn't go well 44:05 something's going on with Hogan's hair here at the top of his head it's really odd oh yeah yeah seriously it's weird 44:12 his hair seemed really thin and straightened in this in this scene if I remember right oh it might be just the 44:17 lighting but yeah goes you're in trouble Buster you're in trouble that's what he told him I'm going to break him in half 44:24 like this I'm going to break him in half like this Rocky go seems like lately everybody 44:29 wants to beat me up seems like lately everybody wants to beat me up oh and then he said earlier too he's 44:36 like hey I wonder if we can like get a Polaroid or something like that listen uh after the match how about uh we get a 44:42 Polaroid together okay yeah and then he shoves Rocky into his corner and that's 44:47 why Rocky says looks like everyone's wanting to beat me up so this is the advice Mickey gives stay away make faces 44:54 move around the ring got it kid stay away make faces move around the ring got 44:59 to KCK all right hey you know what actually this is a a good foreshadowing for Mickey's advice for the subsequent 45:06 fight how so Mr Clubber Lang as people might guess from his uh the fights they 45:11 showed there is utterly devastating toe to- toe you'd have to in order to effectively fight him you'd have to have 45:18 greater movement uh stay out of his way get out of his range and you basically 45:24 would have to do something similar with thunder lips here because it's someone is much larger and more powerful than you are we won't get too much into that 45:30 but yeah you're right so that's the same strategy that he'll use later absolutely uh and then of course Paulie says he is 45:36 the ring all right he is the ring yeah which I think is stupid comment just Paulie's being dumb and 45:44 then another great line is Mickey uh Mickey gets says I get nervous every time he does that when Rocky prays in 45:49 the corner I get nous every time he does that yeah so we're just getting one line after another like what I mean Rocky 3 45:56 is kind of a short film but there's like so much that happens so quickly yeah yeah a lot of on liners and stuff like 46:02 that I think so now the Bell Rings finally the match starts and and and 46:09 thunder lips right away comes charging at Rocky to smash to the back of the head with his arms and Rocky just gets 46:16 out of the way Paulie gets kind of hit and falls out of the ring yeah it seems like thunder Libs hit that thing so hard 46:22 it was going to come off like he was really like you you see how like that's ingenious that they use that as the 46:29 first part because you immediately see how powerful he is there's a difference 46:35 between seeing how big someone is and then you see that in motion like not only is he big but he's agile he moves 46:41 fast like he went across that ring real quick absolutely Rocky's like you know listen we'll just move around the ring a 46:46 little bit give them a good show uh you know we'll take it easy you move pretty fast for a big guy but let's just you know put on a good show whoa you move 46:53 pretty fast for a big guy you know that listen why we just move around a little bit you know like give him a good show 46:59 first I'll chase you and you chase me okay how's that all right he giv these little punches to to his chest here go 47:06 that okay that hurt right don't M how's that okay not bad huh and you could see 47:13 like his chest muscle wiggling he's like first I'll chase you 47:19 then you chase me so he's trying to give thunder lips a couple of uh you know like choreography uh type tip fights to 47:25 get around the ring to put on a good show for the fans yeah Rocky I'm not giving him much credit here like he the 47:31 whole time he does he thinks it's a joke and I can support that at the beginning because you probably would think it's 47:37 just pretty chill but you'd think after him like smashing into the quarter like that you'd get the idea that like you 47:44 better be careful around this guy yeah so now okay now let's just talk it's gonna be hard for us to talk for btim 47:50 about what's going on here but now poop hits the fan for Rocky he does a couple little shots to thunder lip's chest you 47:56 you know does that hurt is that okay is that too hard and thunder lipse then just grabs him and clobbers him in the 48:02 back and you actually see here just really the size difference between Hogan and Stallone second point I want to make 48:09 is and I'll just tell anyone who hasn't seen this film it's kind of obvious everyone has listening to this podcast 48:15 Stallone does his quote unquote stunts that's Stallone getting chucked around the way any way you want to cut it he's 48:21 getting lifted up he's getting suplex he's getting body slammed even that bra back breaker shot they do like he bends 48:28 pretty good there apparently that like put him in that messed him up pretty bad that back breaker one I was reading 48:34 about it it's hard to watch so yeah they make a cracking sound effect too right 48:40 but it probably actually did sound something like that so now he's getting clobbered and this is where FS goes 48:46 think it's all fake meatball old fake it's all fake meatball all fake oh okay 48:52 I was going to ask about that because I'm glad you have the captions on because what I heard when I was watching it is it's all fake meatball it's all 49:00 fake I I didn't understand that I'm like it doesn't look fake but then think it's all fake makes way more sense which I 49:07 find interesting because nowhere has Rocky said to thunder lips that it's fake but this might have been the early 49:13 days of kind of the exposure that wrestling is scripted and not to get into too much into wrestling but 49:19 wrestling's only fake the way that a fixed boxing match is faked meaning it's 49:25 scripted in that you will be the winner and I will be the loser and I'll do my finishing move on you and you go up for 49:31 the pink out but these guys anyone that see says these guys don't take hits bumps they're incredibly athletic uh a 49:38 wrestling match like the WWE or WF whatever it's called like it's basic it's a performance 49:45 absolutely it's not like you said it's not like a you know Olympic wrestling or a boxing match or something like that 49:51 but like these guys are incredible they're doing things normal people couldn't do they're they're slamming 49:58 each other from the top ropes they're doing all these things like you try and get fake clothesline by someone and your 50:04 back hits the ground and not be winded you can't put your arms behind you like when they get B on rule number one is 50:09 you it's called taking the bump and you can't put your hands behind you when you get bone go break your arm at that 50:15 velocity so they have to take the bump with their legs you lift up your back put your feet down a little bit and you 50:20 have to take the bump but I guarantee if you have a 390 lb man lift you up over 50:25 your head and throw you it's going to hurt and you know what's funny when I was watching this there's a lot of times 50:32 you can't see Stallone's face so you're tempted to think maybe there was a like 50:38 there could have been a stunt man right now I believe you that he did his own stunt no KN he's Stone the way he is 50:43 every single thing in this I'm pausing it right now like even when he just got thrown in the tur Thunder lipy throws 50:49 Rocky into the turnbuckle and he yells life's tough meatball life tough meatball he throws him into the into the 50:56 turn and that's Stallone I turn like I've got to pause right now and that's Stallone's face there's no CGI that's 51:01 his face no I understand there's just there's there's certain other scenes though where his face isn't shown but I 51:07 still think it's him I'm just saying he had an out he could have used a stun man if he wanted to if he wanted to yeah 51:13 Rocky's getting tossed around so he's got the back breaker go to that back breaker scene that's brutal I think that 51:19 actually messed him up in real life like I'm pretty sure he broke a rib or something he is getting destroyed so 51:25 when you watch this movie it's kind of weird now because we know that the movie itself is is is scripted in the sense 51:31 that you know but again taking these hits and these falls for the actor Stallone it's you still have a 390 pound 51:38 man landing on you throwing you around and we know that Stallone is not opposed 51:43 to getting hit and getting broken up in the ring for any movie he's done it for so many movies I'm surprised he's still alive sometimes yeah but what's but 51:50 what's amazing though in the within the film itself Rocky himself is actually getting he's really getting hurt one of 51:57 the announcers is like bboa is really in pain bboa is really in pain yeah that's 52:04 right so the announcers are like we know that wrestling's fake but he's really in pain hey Ryan just a second here uh my 52:10 power just went at 5% okay so I'm gonna have to run and grab my charger if you 52:16 just uh could stall for me for a minute if you don't yeah I'll keep talking to the audience here the big back I'll just 52:21 talk to the audience so the big back breaker scenes coming up here guys and this is thunder lips yell out if I can't 52:27 break your spirit I sure as heck can break your back if I can't break your spirit I'm sure enough can break your 52:34 [Applause] back if you want to think about it that reminds me of when Bane broke Batman's 52:41 back ah yes I was wondering what would break first your 52:47 [Music] spirit oh you 52:53 money I don't know that's what I thought of so he puts Rocky the back breaker and of course this kid asks to Adrian is 53:00 daddy having fun and Adrian goes of course is daddy having fun of 53:06 course Hogan or should say thunder lips does the famous his famous finishing move the leg drop and then he does a 53:12 suplex on uh on Rocky and this is a great sequence here because it's done slow motion Rocky's up in the air he's 53:19 getting suplex and it's just a great scene and then we have thunder lips elbow in the back of the head no one can 53:25 believe the super human strength of thunder lips no one can believe the Superhuman strength of thunder lips this 53:32 is that great scene where you've got Stallone in the air being held up by Hogan and you know I guess to Hogan 53:39 that's pretty a pretty a pretty lightweight compared to him and th lips yells out just before he throws Rocky 53:44 out of the ring I am the man I the man thunder lips yells out to the crowd 53:51 you want this punching bank and then Rocky yells out Adrien you want this punching bag Adrian Rocky yeah and then 53:59 Adrian Rocky that's a great sequence there Rocky is thrown into the crowd 54:04 yeah and then thunder lips doesn't just like stay in the ring either he he's 54:10 taking his fight out into the crowd too so like the match is no longer in the ring anymore he's fighting Security Guys 54:17 one of the security guys gets punched in the face or in the head and now he's in the audience looking to finish belbo off 54:25 oh we buddy okay well I'm on camera right now buddy 54:31 Mommy have to talk to the a yeah so why don't you uh why don't you talk about Hogan or thunder lips doing destruction 54:39 there to uh to everybody well I floss my kids teeth yeah okay I I got this bro I can 54:46 do this right now thunder lips he's fighting with the uh security people who don't stand a chance and then he gets 54:53 into the audience and so Rocky realizes that uh he has to do something to fight 54:58 thunder lips and he calls Paulie over and he's telling Paulie to take these gloves off and so Paulie's trying to do 55:05 this as fast as he can luckily Paulie has a switch blade 55:13 maybe he just carries a switchblade with him all the time I don't know kind of sketchy but he uses this switch blade to 55:18 cut Rocky's gloves off and then Rocky immediately gets back into the ring to 55:23 challenge thunder lips now Adrian is saying what are you doing Mickey saying 55:29 like are you nuts what are you 55:36 doing on we missed something big actually one of the things that happened 55:42 uh when thunder lips went into the crowd and right before Rocky came back is 55:47 Mickey seems to be suffering uh some kind of pain yeah the stress of the match is stress on his heart you so you 55:54 see the foreshot of him clutching his chest oh this is rough on me yeah yeah so Al savani the the cutman is the only 56:01 guy that notices this Rocky doesn't notice uh the crowd either doesn't notice or doesn't care but then Mick 56:07 kind of pulls through as maybe some angina instead of a heart attack and I 56:12 could say that Gina Ryan it's okay that's different I know that's what it's called and so uh I don't know if you 56:19 heard all what I was saying before Ryan but I was just talking about how Paulie cut Rocky's gloves off and Rock was 56:26 going back into the ring and then Mickey and his wife are saying like what the hell are you doing are you nuts good 56:32 recap Rockets gloves cut off he goes in the ring he says hey come on come fight 56:37 me and then thund he goes to the ring and he slams his hands on the ring and kind of shakes the whole 56:47 Arena it's like the Superhuman straight but what I love about this sequence is 56:53 and maybe this is where Vince McMahon was mad about because Rocky body slams them uh like you mean throws them under 56:58 the ring or yeah because there was a there was a time that to be body slammed or to be lifted was kind of like if you 57:05 were a wrestler that got lifted up you're kind of like not a super hero anymore and so I don't know maybe maybe 57:12 having Hogan lifted up by a little Rocky and then Rocky throws I love how he 57:17 throws Hogan or thunder lips into the ring and everyone just loves it it says 57:22 here the human skyscraper has been thrown out of the ring by Rocky bbo unbelievable Rocky actually did it a 57:29 human skyscraper has been thrown out of the way yeah you barely got him out 57:36 criticizing that's 400 lb so that's a lot to hold up yeah it's incredible it's 390 PBS think about lifting up your own 57:43 kid who's like 5 years old oh you got a little bit of weight to you you know he's just a 5-year-old kid now try to 57:48 lift up your teenager now try to lift up yourself and then lift up something that's 150 PBS heavier than you yeah so 57:55 Stallone did that he lifted Hogan up I don't care how you cut it there's no CGI no wires there he had a cuz he was 58:02 struggling the struggle was real what you saw St shaking there it was a real effort no props to Sly for that that's a 58:08 that's a pretty impressive feed of string and then I love how when the when thunder lips gets thrown of the ring the bell rings like that was the end of the 58:14 fight like okay yeah now now thunder lips got thrown of the Ring we can call the fight yeah that guy's like H it's a 58:20 draw it's a draw and he like gets the hell out of there like it wasn't any all right that's it that's it time 58:27 ladies and gentlemen we have a draw an off the 12th annual charity match 58:32 between the Italian Stallion Rock and thunder the ultimate mail see you next 58:38 year thank God ladies and gentlemen we have your decision or nothing like that 58:43 it was just like this was the 12th annual charity match so I wonder what they were doing before that was it 58:49 always a box it was a PA ever in one of these well probably maybe well no because this is Philadelphia this is the 58:54 Philadelphia youth league so this is uh this was the 12th one so this this one started in 1970 well Ryan there's one 59:01 thing we got to point out the movie came out in 1982 right but the movie is set in 1979 it's set three years after Rocky 59:10 won the championship okay no because he how soon after the rematch was the how 59:16 how many months after the rematch
