- 0:00Speaker 1: He is going to be perfect, and I shall name
- 0:02Speaker 1: him Jack Joe Michael Hanson.
- 0:03Speaker 2: It's One more Thing.
- 0:07Speaker 3: One More Thing, Hey, Katie Green lead One More Thing podcast.
- 0:12Speaker 3: What do you have for us, Katie?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Just a little update on my baby making process.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I think I understand it. I don't want to put
- 0:20Speaker 3: too fun a point on it, but there's the whole.
- 0:22Speaker 3: There's a penis, a vagina, there's a oh good lord,
- 0:25Speaker 3: you know, probably a little uh, drinky poop, maybe a candle,
- 0:28Speaker 3: some music.
- 0:30Speaker 1: You have no idea how subtlety you're excused. Yeah, you
- 0:33Speaker 1: have no idea how bad. I wish that was how
- 0:36Speaker 1: this was going.
- 0:37Speaker 2: But that's not the way you're doing it. You're doing
- 0:39Speaker 2: for the for.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Those of the of you that are just tuning in
- 0:41Speaker 1: or don't know. I am going through infertility or IVF,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and the reason being is because I have a hereditary
- 0:48Speaker 1: kidney disease that I could pass along to my child.
- 0:52Speaker 1: So we are doing genetic testing to ensure that I
- 0:54Speaker 1: do not hand this delight right on down. So we've
- 0:58Speaker 1: gone through what's called an egg retrieval, actually two of
- 1:02Speaker 1: them now, where they go in and they take all
- 1:04Speaker 1: of my eggs and they test them and biopsie them,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and then what they do is they give me a
- 1:08Speaker 1: report afterwards and let me know the quality of the embryos.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Is everybody still with me?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a lot of time. The egg or the
- 1:16Speaker 2: embryo is the fertilized egg.
- 1:19Speaker 1: What's amazing is that we actually don't have eggs to
- 1:22Speaker 1: begin with. They're called follicles, and then once they mature,
- 1:24Speaker 1: they become eggs, and they are nurturing these eggs until
- 1:28Speaker 1: they become embryos. Once they are an embryo, they can
- 1:32Speaker 1: genetically test that and find out what's going on.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Uh, how pleasant or unpleasant is all this?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Them gathering your eggs and everything like that?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Oh, this is bit I'm going I'm gonna say it.
- 1:49Speaker 1: This is sorry, Hanson. This has been an absolute fuck show.
- 1:52Speaker 1: This sucks. This sucks.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So it's not you know, I feel like this is
- 1:57Speaker 3: presented kind of when they talk about it, you know,
- 2:00Speaker 3: drive by media style on the news, like it's a
- 2:02Speaker 3: you know, it's no big deal, but you're saying it's
- 2:04Speaker 3: a really big deal.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Well, and people they you know, the way people phrase
- 2:09Speaker 1: everything that everybody calls this the journey. It's not a
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's not a journey. I mean, if you want to
- 2:14Speaker 1: call it that because it feels better, fine, but this
- 2:16Speaker 1: is definitely it's it's a medical process.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And just to I mean, we're family here to BTM
- 2:24Speaker 1: I I have had three times of the month this month.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Whoa yeah, that's because whoa yeah, I'm pretty oh, I'm
- 2:31Speaker 1: pretty over it at this point. But they've I've been
- 2:33Speaker 1: I mean I've been on thirteen different medications and on
- 2:37Speaker 1: birth control twice throughout this whole process. And the interesting
- 2:41Speaker 1: part is they put you on birth control so the
- 2:43Speaker 1: doctor can get control of the way your body is
- 2:46Speaker 1: regulating your hormones. It's it's really it's an amazing process.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Anyway. So does insurance cover all this?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Insurance? Actually, I've been really lucky that insurance has covered
- 2:56Speaker 1: some of it, but not a lot of it.
- 3:00Speaker 4: No, you folks can't see this because it's audio entertainment.
- 3:04Speaker 4: But Katie is now waving around a pair of scissors.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Can we ask you to put the scissors down?
- 3:11Speaker 1: I told you guys to stop messing with me.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Three uh ant flows in one month. That'll make you. Yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 2: And let's go ahead and just put it out.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It is the fifteenth of the month, right now, that's right.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Holy crap. Just remember Katie, I really like you. I
- 3:28Speaker 2: know you do.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Michael, I know you're just you all have been absolutely
- 3:33Speaker 1: wonderful through all of this. Just a side note, but
- 3:37Speaker 1: so uh interesting angle to this, Uh that was a
- 3:42Speaker 1: little disappointing is that because I am the first in
- 3:45Speaker 1: my bloodline to have this kidney disease, after my last
- 3:50Speaker 1: egg retrieval, they told me that they cannot test my
- 3:52Speaker 1: first child.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Because why we are here. Thank you, right, thank you
- 3:59Speaker 2: the whole thing.
- 4:00Speaker 1: That's the whole reason for this whole thing.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So boy.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, So this started in May and at the first
- 4:07Speaker 1: the first week of August, I was informed that I
- 4:09Speaker 1: am going to have to go ahead and have the
- 4:10Speaker 1: first pregnancy and they're going to test me at eighteen
- 4:13Speaker 1: weeks and let me know if the kid has polycystic
- 4:15Speaker 1: kidney disease or not.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So yeah, that was that.
- 4:18Speaker 1: There were a lot of words that I won't say
- 4:20Speaker 1: because I don't want a Hanson to have to have
- 4:21Speaker 1: more work to do but than I already gave him.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But anyway, on a more positive note, my doctor called
- 4:28Speaker 1: me a couple days ago and the first week of September,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I will be going in and the first embryo that
- 4:37Speaker 1: is of highest quality is a baby boy.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Oh well, fantastic. Who Yeah, And that's where he came
- 4:42Speaker 3: up with the name for the boy, which will be.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Jack Joe Michael Hanson.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, so yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And some people I've gotten not friends, but associates or
- 4:54Speaker 1: associates acquaintances that have been like, well, don't you feel
- 4:57Speaker 1: like you're playing God knowing the gender? And I I
- 5:00Speaker 1: don't feel like I'm playing God because I told my
- 5:03Speaker 1: doctor I just want to use the highest quality embryo
- 5:05Speaker 1: we have, and I just so happy to know the gender.
- 5:08Speaker 3: She didn't choose the gender. You just found out about
- 5:10Speaker 3: it in the same way that I did with my kids.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I did. I didn't want to, but their mom wanted to,
- 5:15Speaker 2: and so yeah, I just found out. Yeah. Boy.
- 5:17Speaker 4: The willingness to make casual comments about the deepest and
- 5:22Speaker 4: most important parts of other people's lives, that's that's a
- 5:25Speaker 4: gift you have, friends, that's a real gift.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You have to be willing to do that.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I can charming, I can normally ignore that, not always
- 5:33Speaker 3: will most of the time, just.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Like God, why do you?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Because because also I asked, right, because I was. I
- 5:40Speaker 1: was wondering what their opinion was about how I was
- 5:43Speaker 1: going to do my thing.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, boy, that reminds me Jack, I'm supposed to
- 5:46Speaker 4: tell you how to raise your children.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I am very happy that it is a boy, though
- 5:53Speaker 1: I have to tell you, I do want to have
- 5:55Speaker 1: a boy and a girl. But I'm praying that this
- 5:58Speaker 1: one works out because I have a feeling that I
- 6:00Speaker 1: will have a lot better of a time, but a
- 6:03Speaker 1: little boy and not another me running around.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I wanted to both experiences myself. I've got two boys
- 6:10Speaker 3: and no girls, and I see my neighbor with his
- 6:13Speaker 3: teenage daughter and all the boys coming by all the time,
- 6:16Speaker 3: and so it doesn't it doesn't kill me that I'm
- 6:18Speaker 3: not going through what he's going through right now.
- 6:20Speaker 2: But I mean, it would have been nice having been
- 6:23Speaker 2: down both roads.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Let me tell you, Yes, yes, the female road is
- 6:28Speaker 4: a more complicated road, so it is not an interstate
- 6:33Speaker 4: highway that stretches straight to the horizon.
- 6:36Speaker 2: As not that boys are exactly. Yes, it's different. It's different.
- 6:41Speaker 4: You know, it's been incredible and wonderful and amazing, but yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 4: it's different.
- 6:46Speaker 1: What's funny is the conversation I'm having with my parents
- 6:48Speaker 1: right now already is how if this child ever talks
- 6:52Speaker 1: back the leverage I have. Do you have any idea
- 6:56Speaker 1: what it took to get you here?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah? I can't play that card, right, Yeah?
- 7:03Speaker 4: Do you understand what I had to, had to wanted
- 7:05Speaker 4: to begged to do right to bring you in the world.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Would do it every day if I had the chance?
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yes, well yes, yeah, it doesn't work. Yeah, wow, but.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It's it's a really it's an amazing, fascinating process. And
- 7:21Speaker 1: it is you know when you first started, and the
- 7:24Speaker 1: syringes and giving yourself injections and all that.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It is scary.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But if anybody's listening going through it right now, if
- 7:33Speaker 1: I can do it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: You can do it. Trust me.
- 7:36Speaker 1: If I have the biggest needle phobia on the planet.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Oh did you did? You don't even like the term?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Did you have the experience I had with cancer? Where
- 7:43Speaker 3: because I had a horrible needle for BA two, But
- 7:45Speaker 3: I got jabbed so many times it kind of went away.
- 7:48Speaker 2: It just kind of got used to it.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Well with getting my with needles and shots. Now, yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I don't care, just poke me. That's I'm over that.
- 7:56Speaker 2: After that. It's interesting.
- 7:57Speaker 3: It's there's a name for that, immersions there, something like that,
- 8:02Speaker 3: but it's true.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Now come at me to take my blood.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Still going to pass out? No? Why? Now that's interesting.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I was talking to my son's psychiatrist about this yesterday
- 8:11Speaker 3: and his son has the same thing as my son.
- 8:13Speaker 2: For a lot of people, it's not the needle. It's
- 8:15Speaker 2: having something taken from you. I rem that's it. That's interesting.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I'd never heard. I'd never thought about that in my life.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And my and Henry said, that's it.
- 8:24Speaker 3: And my psychiatrist said, that's my son's deal is that
- 8:27Speaker 3: it's it's not the needle or the pain, it's the
- 8:30Speaker 3: having something withdrawn from your body.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that freaks you out. And I've never thought that. Well,
- 8:36Speaker 2: and that's well, go ahead, Katie.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Well, I was just thinking because I mean, I have tattoos, piercings,
- 8:42Speaker 1: none of that bothers me. But the second that they're
- 8:44Speaker 1: taking something out of me, when I start, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 1: getting lightheaded.
- 8:49Speaker 4: You know, this is crazy. But I remember ages ago
- 8:52Speaker 4: reading about this, in reading about toilet training, that that's
- 8:57Speaker 4: some kid's problem with using the potty and flushing it away.
- 9:04Speaker 2: It's like, whoa Hey, that's mine.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That I have another problem I got to tell you about.
- 9:11Speaker 2: No, I'm just kidding.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Oh no, old boy, that's interesting, Yeah, because I that's
- 9:18Speaker 5: I don't know why, but the blood draw is my
- 9:21Speaker 5: that's my arch nemous there, arch nemesis.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Yeah, anemone whateverminemone. Uh yeah, I don't want to talk
- 9:32Speaker 4: about this anymore.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It's it weirds me out. I got to look away.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I got to think about other things.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Oh, you've got nice veins. You have really juicy veins.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Oh, speaking of I do have juicy veins. And the
- 9:43Speaker 1: chick had to use an effing vein finder on me
- 9:45Speaker 1: the other day, and I'm.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Oh, what I don't even want is the higher one?
- 9:49Speaker 2: Is that a dog? Is this sniff you?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Er?
- 9:51Speaker 2: Oh? I don't even want to know.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It's a little machine that they put over your arm
- 9:55Speaker 1: and it shows them where your veins are so they
- 9:56Speaker 1: don't miss.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It's like this done in there somewhere. It's the stud
- 10:01Speaker 2: finder of the human bodies.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And you might as well be wearing a shirt that
- 10:05Speaker 1: says I'm an e f ing rookie, because why do
- 10:08Speaker 1: you have that?
- 10:09Speaker 3: Ah?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding, yeah, no kidding. Anyway, Okay, I'm done
- 10:13Speaker 2: to I agree with Joe. We got to stop.
- 10:15Speaker 1: So if I do end up, if all this ends
- 10:18Speaker 1: up working out, Jack Joe Michael Hanson should be born
- 10:20Speaker 1: somewhere around the end of April beginning of May.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Oh cool, that's a beautiful name.
- 10:25Speaker 4: We all know you'll call him Joey of course, but
- 10:29Speaker 4: that's of course.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, this is why I just have tropical fish.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it.
