- 0:04Speaker 1: Well as promised. I'm wandling up Alex Media and you
- 0:06Speaker 1: heard it with loud Termanella's take. We have Ryan the
- 0:09Speaker 1: night I did Terminala's take on Opening Night because this
- 0:12Speaker 1: kid over here went not just Mets Opening Day, but
- 0:16Speaker 1: the Islanders that night in a playoff push by the way,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I mean, they really upped themselves in the seating. But Ryan,
- 0:22Speaker 1: your day? Were you tired after Thursday night? I mean
- 0:25Speaker 1: you were at Opening Day for the Mets and then
- 0:26Speaker 1: the Islander game that night.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you should have seen me Friday when I
- 0:29Speaker 2: woke up, I felt like a zombie, even after I
- 0:31Speaker 2: normally at Howard's rest, and very much for good reason.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I mean, and it's not even just the two games
- 0:37Speaker 2: in one day aspect of it, but also, Alex, I
- 0:40Speaker 2: took like thirteen thousand steps. That's a lot for me.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Well from Pag's perspective, though, how cool was it? Do
- 0:47Speaker 1: you ever do those kind of double headers type of
- 0:48Speaker 1: thing often?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Definitely, not often at all? And you know, it's actually
- 0:52Speaker 2: funny you bring that up. I was gonna do it
- 0:54Speaker 2: last year for Mets Opening Day because the Isles they
- 0:58Speaker 2: had a game that night, and I believe it was
- 1:00Speaker 2: against the Minnesota Wild at that point. So the Mets
- 1:03Speaker 2: they had their home opener that afternoon against the Toronto
- 1:07Speaker 2: Blue Jays, which they of course won, and then the
- 1:09Speaker 2: Islanders were playing that night two, which I don't recall
- 1:13Speaker 2: if they won or not. I mean, really, that whole
- 1:15Speaker 2: twenty four to twenty five season for them was pretty
- 1:17Speaker 2: murky in hindsight. I mean, they were just a terrible
- 1:20Speaker 2: hockey team by that point, not really watchable, I would say,
- 1:24Speaker 2: But it's kind of an interesting domino effect that ultimately,
- 1:29Speaker 2: by me not doing the doubleheader that day, it kind
- 1:32Speaker 2: of allowed me to go to their next home game
- 1:35Speaker 2: on April the sixth or April the fifth, I forget
- 1:40Speaker 2: the day, but either way, the next home game after
- 1:42Speaker 2: that one was Alex Ovechkin scoring his eight hundred ninety
- 1:46Speaker 2: fifth goals.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And then you came in too. I believe you did
- 1:49Speaker 1: a couple of shows that day for us at nine.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah, real talk with Dottie Herman ten am right after that,
- 1:54Speaker 2: leaving to go to ubs and rushing to try to
- 1:58Speaker 2: get to the arena as quick as I could, and
- 2:00Speaker 2: then after the game, after socializing it up with some
- 2:03Speaker 2: guys from Ottawa who actually made the trip to Long
- 2:05Speaker 2: Island to go see history, coming back in for shake
- 2:09Speaker 2: it Off with Mert and Lucas. I mean, that was
- 2:11Speaker 2: a fun time, all right.
- 2:13Speaker 1: This is what I'm gonna get for YouTube shorts. Apparently
- 2:15Speaker 1: you packed both jerseys in your bag for that day.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I mean you that type of guy that actually packs
- 2:20Speaker 1: multiple jerseys for different events. Is that what you are see?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Listen, if I know I'm going to both games, that
- 2:25Speaker 2: is something I would do, and that is exactly something
- 2:27Speaker 2: I did on Thursday, Alex. So you see, I wore
- 2:30Speaker 2: the Wan Sodo jersey to City Field for Mets Opening Day,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and then I packed an Islanders Fisherman jersey in my
- 2:36Speaker 2: bag as well to bring to UBS, knowing that I
- 2:39Speaker 2: was gonna be going there and YouTube.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Probably something in my Yankee jersey. But I actually got
- 2:43Speaker 1: a picture with the Commissioners Trophy and a couple other
- 2:45Speaker 1: jerseys we could check out at Alex the nice one
- 2:48Speaker 1: as well. Anyway, Ryan, so you pack the jerseys, then
- 2:52Speaker 1: you do all that. How was your voice? I mean,
- 2:55Speaker 1: you need to do a lot of voice work at
- 2:56Speaker 1: the radio stations. How was your voice at the end
- 2:58Speaker 1: of the day.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It actually wasn't too bad. Believe it or not. I mean, granted,
- 3:02Speaker 2: I don't think I really did that much screaming over there. Okay,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I did a little bit. I would be a liar
- 3:09Speaker 2: to deny that, but not really in a way where
- 3:12Speaker 2: there's no way in hell I would be able to
- 3:14Speaker 2: talk tomorrow if that were the case.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And then Skeins get knocked out. I mean that was
- 3:18Speaker 1: the big story line for me, is because as you know,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and I think I text you this, I'm worried about
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Met's bottom of the lineup right now. I think
- 3:24Speaker 1: the top half is pretty solid.
- 3:25Speaker 2: No, it's very much so apart from the Boba Shad.
- 3:29Speaker 2: We'll get to him.
- 3:30Speaker 1: They knock off Skeens after not even get out of
- 3:33Speaker 1: the first inning. I mean, I was impressive for opening day.
- 3:35Speaker 2: For the reigning Cy Young Winner two, one of the
- 3:38Speaker 2: two best pictures on planet Earth, and you knock him
- 3:42Speaker 2: out and not even the first inning. I was in disbelief.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I think everybody else in that ballpark was, and even
- 3:49Speaker 2: you saw the reactions of some of the Pirate fans there.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Livy done too, I mean she made the trip to
- 3:54Speaker 2: New York with her boyfriend Paul Skeens for opening day
- 3:58Speaker 2: and you could see the video videos in your feed
- 4:01Speaker 2: of her just sitting with her shades on on the
- 4:04Speaker 2: third base side of city field, just you know, I
- 4:08Speaker 2: didn't really know if it was in disgust per se
- 4:10Speaker 2: or just that she was stunned, But.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And I wondered if something had the WBC, because for
- 4:15Speaker 1: him to have that kind of performance his first real
- 4:17Speaker 1: start after WBC is very is alarming. If I'm a
- 4:20Speaker 1: Pirate fan.
- 4:20Speaker 2: No that too, but even also Logan Webb getting shelled
- 4:23Speaker 2: on opening night in San fran by the Yanks. I mean,
- 4:27Speaker 2: he also pitched a lot on the WBC as well,
- 4:29Speaker 2: So you really have to wonder if that's kind of
- 4:32Speaker 2: you know, been a quite an interesting feeling going among
- 4:35Speaker 2: these pitchers this you know, what's the word I'm looking
- 4:39Speaker 2: for here? You know, really arend right now?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Really a trend because you have those two guys not
- 4:47Speaker 2: really looking like themselves after pitching in the WBC. But
- 4:50Speaker 2: also you have Nolan McLain kind of breaking that trend,
- 4:53Speaker 2: had a pretty good outing against the Bucks in the
- 4:55Speaker 2: series finale yesterday, and.
- 4:57Speaker 1: You thought they might get the sweep. But anyway, so close,
- 5:00Speaker 1: let me let me ask you, that's the abs challenge
- 5:03Speaker 1: in full swing very much. So I think you guys
- 5:05Speaker 1: had a couple in that game alone. There were lous
- 5:07Speaker 1: arguing that they should have that unlimited, and I kind
- 5:10Speaker 1: of agree. It's a very simple method, tap of the
- 5:12Speaker 1: cap or helmet. Maybe they should keep it unlimited, not
- 5:15Speaker 1: limit the challenges. What do you think?
- 5:17Speaker 2: No, they definitely should because if anything abs and we've
- 5:21Speaker 2: been seeing this a ton in opening weekend, this is
- 5:25Speaker 2: pretty much the perfect opportunity for the players to get
- 5:27Speaker 2: power here and to overrule and be honest, and you
- 5:33Speaker 2: saw that a ton you.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Were in the batter's box. I know when you were
- 5:35Speaker 1: a kid. But I mean anybody who's played the game
- 5:37Speaker 1: for as long as these guys have, they know what
- 5:39Speaker 1: a ball and strike as far as I'm going, They've
- 5:41Speaker 1: been around the game a long time to know. So
- 5:43Speaker 1: my question is is this, if I'm start getting it
- 5:46Speaker 1: wrong even more, does that change the training of these umpires?
- 5:51Speaker 1: I think it has to write, I.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Mean absolutely, And you know a perfect example. You look
- 5:55Speaker 2: at a guy like Cebe Buckner and I'm sure you
- 5:58Speaker 2: saw this in the Red series over the week and
- 6:00Speaker 2: Alex where he got I believe it was six ABS
- 6:04Speaker 2: calls wrong or overturned just in his game behind the
- 6:10Speaker 2: dish alone, and two of them were back to back.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Mind right, where you saw the crowd at Great American
- 6:17Speaker 2: Ballpark just going even more nuts with every call that
- 6:20Speaker 2: was overturned, and even the second straight time around where
- 6:26Speaker 2: CB had to announce that the batter's challenging the previous pitch.
- 6:31Speaker 2: He seemed visibly annoyed. And you wonder why he's been
- 6:36Speaker 2: in the league so long, but yet he hasn't even
- 6:39Speaker 2: appeared in a World Series, and you wonder why that's
- 6:41Speaker 2: the case.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Right, And you wonder this, I know Eugenius were has
- 6:44Speaker 1: actually did it back to back pitches. But then you
- 6:47Speaker 1: see the Twins manager got ejected over an ABS overturned.
- 6:50Speaker 1: It's getting kind of crazier if you have a manager
- 6:52Speaker 1: ejected by the by the robots as they were saying.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, an all time call from Kevin Brown right there,
- 6:58Speaker 2: like he's arguing with the robots that Fried be right,
- 7:02Speaker 2: that is there. But then also his argument was that
- 7:07Speaker 2: Ryan Helsley met legend took a little bit too long
- 7:10Speaker 2: to call for ABS in the first place, which if
- 7:13Speaker 2: you look at the replay, I don't think he took
- 7:15Speaker 2: that long. If anything, he was tapping on his hat
- 7:18Speaker 2: as soon as he knew that it was a ball.
- 7:22Speaker 2: He's arguing with the wall.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I have to ask others this too, could the abs.
- 7:27Speaker 1: It's almost like a Game seven situation right in the
- 7:29Speaker 1: World Series. No way they let ABS be overturning a
- 7:33Speaker 1: game winning call or overturning whatever. Right, That's not gonna happen,
- 7:37Speaker 1: is it.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It'll happen at some point. I mean, just just you wait,
- 7:39Speaker 2: I mean, because you also go back to so many
- 7:43Speaker 2: other games.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Too, this ABS overturns this weekend too.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah, because then also this opens a whole new can
- 7:48Speaker 2: of worms where you go in a past playoff series
- 7:52Speaker 2: and wonder, well, how would these series have been impacted
- 7:56Speaker 2: if ABS were a thing back then? And you look
- 7:59Speaker 2: at the ninety seven NLCS, the infamous Eric reg game
- 8:03Speaker 2: where infamously gave Levon Hernandez a lot of leniency when
- 8:09Speaker 2: it came to his balls and strike calls, because there
- 8:13Speaker 2: were a lot of pitches that Atlanta hitters were facing
- 8:16Speaker 2: that were way outside and it looked very obvious on
- 8:19Speaker 2: the camera, but Eric Greig was calling them strikes behind
- 8:21Speaker 2: the plate, and it got to a point where Atlanta hitters.
- 8:24Speaker 2: They just had to swing it pitches that they knew
- 8:28Speaker 2: were out of the zone, Pitches that Haave Baias would
- 8:31Speaker 2: have easily swung at because they knew they were going
- 8:34Speaker 2: to get called strikes anyway. It was ludicrous and you
- 8:37Speaker 2: just have to wonder if ABS were a thing back
- 8:41Speaker 2: then in ninety seven, would that have changed the series altogether?
- 8:45Speaker 2: And really would that have changed the trajectory for the
- 8:47Speaker 2: Marlins franchise because they went on to win the NLCS
- 8:49Speaker 2: they got the momentum back from that. I mean, this
- 8:52Speaker 2: has the chance to change history right here by having
- 8:55Speaker 2: ABS being implemented, especially in these big playoff games.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And I know you're so, I'm gonna dig a little bit.
- 9:01Speaker 1: If challenges were around, Johan Santina would not be the
- 9:05Speaker 1: first met no hitter, that's for shore.
- 9:07Speaker 2: He definitely would not have.
- 9:08Speaker 1: But that's history. That's why we have the game. How
- 9:10Speaker 1: about the call interference thirty years ago with Jeter. I
- 9:13Speaker 1: mean that would have been overturned too, but oh easily.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And I mean that didn't even an ABS thing too.
- 9:19Speaker 2: But just with the general replay rules that were introduced
- 9:22Speaker 2: in twenty fourteen, and even with the Jeter call. We
- 9:25Speaker 2: were still about three years away up until the first
- 9:29Speaker 2: instance of replay being used to overturn a call in baseball.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think it was nineteen ninety nine actually that the
- 9:35Speaker 2: first instance of it happened, although it was very rare
- 9:39Speaker 2: until twenty fourteen.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Now, what about college ball, because I know in college
- 9:42Speaker 1: basketball they've been going to the review a lot, especially
- 9:44Speaker 1: in the last couple of minutes of play. They go
- 9:47Speaker 1: to the review and then there was some controversy where
- 9:50Speaker 1: on a goaltending what's reviewable, what's not reviewable? I mean,
- 9:54Speaker 1: but they're going to little monitor a lot in March madness,
- 9:56Speaker 1: aren't they?
- 9:57Speaker 2: Oh for sure? I mean, especially especially now as are
- 10:01Speaker 2: approach in Final four at all, it's only gonna just
- 10:06Speaker 2: increase in size and volume from them. And who could
- 10:09Speaker 2: blame them.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You're gonna definitely react to the Mullens three last night
- 10:13Speaker 1: to bust both of our brackets, by the way, insane,
- 10:17Speaker 1: But Yukhon always finds a way to win. I'm Suregreing
- 10:19Speaker 1: talk about that on Pike's perspective as well today.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Oh for sure, because Brailla Mullins, thank you, thank you
- 10:25Speaker 2: for busting my bracket. Thank you for busting everybody's brackets. See,
- 10:29Speaker 2: I love the chaos that March brings. At the same time, though,
- 10:33Speaker 2: like we all go into March knowing that our brackets
- 10:35Speaker 2: are gonna be busted one way or another. So can
- 10:37Speaker 2: you really feel disappointed about that?
- 10:39Speaker 1: No? I love it. As I said in the beginning,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I love the upifs. I live for it. When TCU
- 10:44Speaker 1: busted Ohio State, I'm like, good, let's see more upsets.
- 10:47Speaker 1: When Texas went from the first four to the sweet sixteen,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I love that. You know that that's the way basketball
- 10:53Speaker 1: and March Madness should be. Now, Ryan, I wonder if
- 10:57Speaker 1: there was a crew of you not that went from
- 11:00Speaker 1: Cityfield to Ubs. Did you find anybody else that went
- 11:03Speaker 1: to that game that night?
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah? So another friend of mine he actually did pull
- 11:07Speaker 2: the doubleheader, not just Thursday, but he also did it
- 11:11Speaker 2: Saturday too, So shout out to my friend John for
- 11:15Speaker 2: doing that. He was telling me a lot about how
- 11:17Speaker 2: he was doing it Saturday as well, where the Islanders
- 11:21Speaker 2: they played at one o'clock mattin Ae Day game at
- 11:24Speaker 2: Ubs and they had a very convincing win, five to
- 11:29Speaker 2: two victory over the two time defending Cup champion Florida Panthers,
- 11:32Speaker 2: where it sure as hell did not look that way
- 11:34Speaker 2: five to start, but not even just going down to
- 11:37Speaker 2: nothing at the hands of Matthew t Chuck and Matthew
- 11:40Speaker 2: ta Chuck alone, but then scoring five goals in the
- 11:44Speaker 2: second period to what a lot of Ales fans, including myself,
- 11:48Speaker 2: might argue as saving their season right there. And it
- 11:51Speaker 2: wasn't even the big guys contributing and finding the back
- 11:55Speaker 2: of the net, but it was really the fourth liners
- 11:57Speaker 2: that stepped up there too, Like you had Mark gack
- 12:00Speaker 2: hom Casey Suzekis finding the back of the net, even
- 12:03Speaker 2: Brandon Chen their newest acquisition, with a three point game,
- 12:06Speaker 2: so that was huge. And then who have.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Dot Sezeker's beforeth line because he was such a prom
- 12:11Speaker 1: and I still think he's a prominent player for the Islanders,
- 12:13Speaker 1: is he not?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Oh, he's still very much is this? I mean he's
- 12:15Speaker 2: the last remaining member of that identity line right there,
- 12:18Speaker 2: because Marty he's obviously still involved with the team, special
- 12:21Speaker 2: advisor to Matthew darsh and then Clutterbuck he's of course
- 12:26Speaker 2: retired as well, but as Shannon Hogan's right hand man
- 12:31Speaker 2: on the MSG Networks sat on pregame and post games,
- 12:35Speaker 2: so you know they're still involved with the team one
- 12:37Speaker 2: way or another, and you got to wonder if Zeker
- 12:39Speaker 2: might have a similar role there. But really a lot
- 12:42Speaker 2: of continuity as we approach really half a decade since
- 12:47Speaker 2: that magical run to the Stanley Cup semifinals in.
- 12:51Speaker 1: One where you were not at that time.
- 12:54Speaker 2: So I was just getting in there at that point,
- 12:57Speaker 2: like I chattowed a couple of the playoff games up
- 12:59Speaker 2: to that point, just really being a sponge and seeing
- 13:03Speaker 2: what it was actually like in the biggest moments of
- 13:06Speaker 2: that season. So it was pretty cool to see from
- 13:08Speaker 2: behind the board.
- 13:09Speaker 1: All right. And of course one guy I always say
- 13:11Speaker 1: is and I see what happens when he's healthy. Anders
- 13:14Speaker 1: Lee changed that whole dynamic. I know he got Matt Schaeffer,
- 13:16Speaker 1: but the vet anders Lee is your rock. I don't
- 13:20Speaker 1: care what.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Anybody says, no question, He's been the one constant really
- 13:23Speaker 2: since twenty thirteen, especially when you really don't have a
- 13:26Speaker 2: lot of them anymore. But now the fact that his
- 13:29Speaker 2: contract still on an expiring deal and who knows what's
- 13:33Speaker 2: going to happen to him now, Yes, the I was
- 13:35Speaker 2: obviously locked up.
- 13:36Speaker 1: J G.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Pachow for another three years, which is definitely going to
- 13:39Speaker 2: be very good for them, especially in the long run.
- 13:42Speaker 1: JG.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Pago always known as a playoff warrior, so he'll definitely
- 13:45Speaker 2: help there come springtime if they're going to make more runs.
- 13:47Speaker 2: But as far as Lee is concerned, I think a
- 13:51Speaker 2: lot of people were expecting that maybe he'd get one
- 13:54Speaker 2: more big contract to just make him an Islander lifer,
- 13:58Speaker 2: and it hasn't happened yet. Maybe it won't happen. Nobody
- 14:02Speaker 2: really knows at this point. And yeah, he may not
- 14:06Speaker 2: be the player that he was, say five years ago,
- 14:09Speaker 2: even seven years ago when he was a forty goal scorer, right,
- 14:12Speaker 2: definitely is not that player back then, but he could
- 14:14Speaker 2: still provide you a lot of value. There are a
- 14:17Speaker 2: lot of veteran expertise, And that's kind of the same
- 14:20Speaker 2: thing that I was saying about Brandon Sheen when Matthew
- 14:23Speaker 2: darsh traded to acquire him, because yes, on paper, Sheen
- 14:29Speaker 2: starting to get on the wrong side of thirty and
- 14:32Speaker 2: they gave up a first round pick for him. But
- 14:35Speaker 2: that being said, former captain, and he's still very valuable
- 14:40Speaker 2: to a team making a push, So you can justify
- 14:42Speaker 2: that especially since the pick they gave up it was
- 14:45Speaker 2: the Colorado first that they got for brock Nelson. It's
- 14:48Speaker 2: basically a borderline second round pick at this point.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Well, we'll have to see how it all shakes up. Now,
- 14:53Speaker 1: one last thing, and I feel like, well, a couple
- 14:54Speaker 1: more things, But I feel like since you and I
- 14:57Speaker 1: and Lou have talked about the Islanders from February on,
- 15:00Speaker 1: there's been a progression, not a regression, which is very
- 15:02Speaker 1: important because I remember Lou was a little nervous. You
- 15:04Speaker 1: were a little nervous back to the Oh yeah, Now
- 15:06Speaker 1: all of a sudden they're solid in the fifth or
- 15:08Speaker 1: sixth spot, and I think they were going to get
- 15:10Speaker 1: there so fast, but here they.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Are, try second seed in the Metro. At the time
- 15:14Speaker 2: we're recording this, do you ever think that was gonna
- 15:16Speaker 2: be possitive?
- 15:17Speaker 1: I think that was gonna be possible.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Because I sure as heck did not think so come
- 15:20Speaker 2: opening night. And I keep circling back to Opening night.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Really whatever, I talk about the Islanders here because Alex,
- 15:28Speaker 2: if you remember, I said, if this team can end
- 15:31Speaker 2: the season with like eighty five points or something like that,
- 15:34Speaker 2: that's good enough with me. That's progress. As it stands.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Never in my wildest dreams did I think that they
- 15:40Speaker 2: would be fighting for the second seed in the Metro Division,
- 15:43Speaker 2: and not only that, but also going into the matchup
- 15:47Speaker 2: later tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Ubs. This is
- 15:50Speaker 2: a battle for the second seed in the Metro right here,
- 15:54Speaker 2: massive playoff implications on both sides. Never did I think
- 15:58Speaker 2: this would be a thing.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And where's game tonight?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Ubs? Oh?
- 16:02Speaker 1: Ubs?
- 16:02Speaker 2: Maybe? Yeah, seven o'clock puck drop. It's gonna be quite
- 16:04Speaker 2: a fun one.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Maybe I'll get a tickpiclink and go to the game tonight.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It seems like it's gonna be a crucial one. Okay,
- 16:10Speaker 1: a couple more things. Did you notice a Hamilton singer
- 16:15Speaker 1: flubbing the anthem? Oh? I was there for that, and
- 16:18Speaker 1: right what I should notice? Also?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Oh everybody did, and we were all thinking that's not
- 16:23Speaker 2: how the anthem is normally supposed to sound, but it happens.
- 16:29Speaker 2: It was.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It was a funny moment. I didn't think it would
- 16:31Speaker 1: go viral like it did, but boy, everybody picked up on.
- 16:33Speaker 2: It was a funny goof, for sure, but also a
- 16:35Speaker 2: lot of Mets haters thinking that, oh, this is surely
- 16:39Speaker 2: going to be the omen that breaks the twenty twenty
- 16:42Speaker 2: six Mets season. But you know, we got thick skin
- 16:45Speaker 2: over here in Queens. We're used to this, all right.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Did you take advantage of the in radio usage where
- 16:51Speaker 1: you can actually listen to the game in the stadium.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Now, I believe Yeah, without a seven to eight second
- 16:56Speaker 2: delay in there. I love every bit of it. And
- 16:59Speaker 2: it always just feels so awkward though, like going to
- 17:02Speaker 2: the bathroom or whatever during the action and you can
- 17:06Speaker 2: hear the crowd reaction if the Mets had a big
- 17:08Speaker 2: moment or something like that, like for example, Pete Alonzo
- 17:12Speaker 2: goes deep and you hear the crowd reaction before you
- 17:15Speaker 2: hear how he call like eight seconds later in the bathrooms,
- 17:19Speaker 2: And I don't know, that's a little awkward if you
- 17:21Speaker 2: ask me. But no, it's definitely a welcome change. And
- 17:24Speaker 2: granted it's not really a big one in the grand
- 17:27Speaker 2: scheme of things, but it's still changed that the fans
- 17:29Speaker 2: are going to pick up on and I know they're
- 17:30Speaker 2: going to appreciate that, especially time. Yeah, especially that this
- 17:34Speaker 2: is how he's last season had a heck of a
- 17:36Speaker 2: run with the Mets and everybody.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Opening the opening lineup and get the Storry lineup for
- 17:42Speaker 1: Opening Day. That was special.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So like, can he just come back every year just
- 17:46Speaker 2: to do that?
- 17:47Speaker 1: I think he might. You know, Sam Rosen still comes
- 17:49Speaker 1: back to the Rangers, so I think he'll do some
- 17:50Speaker 1: stuff like that.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, even you have a Jakes McDonald's coming
- 17:53Speaker 2: back every now and then for special Islander ceremonies. Maybe
- 17:56Speaker 2: not Opening Night, but you know, Hall of Fame inductions,
- 18:00Speaker 2: number of retirements. He still gets his way around for that.
- 18:02Speaker 2: So it's entirely possible. And you know, going back to
- 18:06Speaker 2: Roses video that he put out on the Mets Socials
- 18:08Speaker 2: announcing that the twenty twenty six season would be his last,
- 18:11Speaker 2: he said he would love nothing more than to be
- 18:13Speaker 2: the mc on the steps of City Hall in October
- 18:17Speaker 2: or November, because that's how the season goes now, welcoming
- 18:21Speaker 2: the world champion Mets and considering that his first year
- 18:24Speaker 2: with the team was nineteen eighty seven, aka the year
- 18:27Speaker 2: that they were the defending world champs. Ye, I don't
- 18:30Speaker 2: know about you, that'd be a pretty good way to
- 18:31Speaker 2: close things out.
- 18:32Speaker 1: It would be fitting. And by the way, I'm going
- 18:34Speaker 1: to dig the Mets here for a minute, it's forty
- 18:36Speaker 1: degrees on Saturday, and you're giving out one of the
- 18:38Speaker 1: best promotions of the season in March. Can they do
- 18:42Speaker 1: more rings later in the year. I mean, is that
- 18:44Speaker 1: a possibility or what?
- 18:45Speaker 2: See? You would think so? And I was a little
- 18:47Speaker 2: surprised that they'd choose game number two of the season
- 18:51Speaker 2: to give out probably one of their better giveaways of
- 18:54Speaker 2: the season. But I mean, I guess that's just the
- 18:56Speaker 2: way the cookie crumbles sometimes. But granted, there's gonna be
- 18:59Speaker 2: a lot better giveaways, at least in my opinion, later
- 19:03Speaker 2: this season. I know they're giving away a Wan Soto
- 19:04Speaker 2: forty thirty bobblehead later this year, a couple other things
- 19:08Speaker 2: in the works. I know they still have yet to
- 19:10Speaker 2: announce their promotion schedule, if I'm not mistaken, for July
- 19:14Speaker 2: and really that second half of the season. They've really
- 19:16Speaker 2: announced everything up until June, which is funny.
- 19:20Speaker 1: When I was a kid, they had everything lined up.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah, they had everything was lined up well at advance.
- 19:26Speaker 1: So but I think they like the surprise that they've
- 19:28Speaker 1: learned that surprises are better. And then fireworks Fridays are back,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I believe.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So it'll be Oh they are, but I guess. They
- 19:33Speaker 2: also don't want to avoid a scenario where, say, I
- 19:37Speaker 2: don't know, they giveaway Luis Garcia promotional item. Why they
- 19:40Speaker 2: would don't ask, but they wouldn't want to announce this
- 19:44Speaker 2: before the season. And the next thing, you know, they
- 19:47Speaker 2: have a date set for August, like a Luis Garcia
- 19:51Speaker 2: and he's T shirt I don't know, and then they
- 19:54Speaker 2: trade him or something like that, or.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Bre baity thing that he gets traded. You know those times.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Too, Yeah, because I mean the still very much have
- 20:00Speaker 2: a logjam at infield and even some of their newcomers,
- 20:05Speaker 2: they're still trying to make their adjustments. Accordingly Boba Schet
- 20:09Speaker 2: going through a little bit of growing pains at third base,
- 20:11Speaker 2: but also paying a bit of it what I like
- 20:14Speaker 2: to call an adjustment tax to New York. Because it
- 20:17Speaker 2: was game number three, Mets fans already calling for his benching,
- 20:20Speaker 2: they're already booing him. But this is just the adjustment
- 20:24Speaker 2: tax coming into play. It doesn't matter who you are,
- 20:28Speaker 2: if you're a superstar coming into Queens, there's always some
- 20:31Speaker 2: sort of an adjustment tax to be paid. And you
- 20:34Speaker 2: saw this just last year with Won Soto outs. Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 2: I mean struggled the first two months of the season,
- 20:39Speaker 2: Yankee fans calling him out, and right.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Down to Smorial Day and all of a sudden, he's
- 20:44Speaker 1: like going over again. I'm like, boy, this guy's still adjusting.
- 20:47Speaker 1: And we were at Memorial.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Day and I was saying that, yeah, I mean, it
- 20:50Speaker 2: took him like two months to get adjusted to Queens
- 20:53Speaker 2: And you know, it's natural, I guess. But compared to
- 20:58Speaker 2: what you saw with Francisco Indoor and Carlos Beltron, how
- 21:02Speaker 2: they got adjusted to Queen's in their times with the Mets,
- 21:05Speaker 2: And I'd argue Sotos was pretty quick because from June
- 21:09Speaker 2: on he was hitting like the Wan Soto that Mets
- 21:11Speaker 2: fans were expecting. Meanwhile, Lindor Beltron, they had to wait
- 21:16Speaker 2: until their second season to really get accustomed to the
- 21:20Speaker 2: pressure of playing with the Mets.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Three homer is a career for him, all right.
- 21:25Speaker 2: So the title turn for Bashet eventually, we just don't
- 21:27Speaker 2: know when that's gonna be. But really, all you can
- 21:30Speaker 2: do is just have faith that maybe his bat will
- 21:32Speaker 2: come around eventually, and that maybe he won't, maybe he
- 21:34Speaker 2: won't be looking like the twenty twenty four version of himself,
- 21:37Speaker 2: but more so the twenty twenty five version that they
- 21:39Speaker 2: paid forty million dollars for.
- 21:41Speaker 1: All right, and one thing the Yanks do do another
- 21:43Speaker 1: sweep and twenty four we all know what happened. I
- 21:45Speaker 1: thought that was a greaty sweep against the Ashes two
- 21:47Speaker 1: years ago. Now last year was good with the Brewers,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but of course we don't know how the season ended.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Look on my Yankees thoughts here real quick, Ryan, they
- 21:58Speaker 1: look better than I thought. They look like they'll be
- 22:02Speaker 1: a gritty team and won't just be the home run ball.
- 22:04Speaker 1: They didn't really hit a home run on game number
- 22:06Speaker 1: one in the season. They actually hit only two or three,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I know, judging them on Friday, but then again, they
- 22:12Speaker 1: didn't hit a home run Saturday and they won. That's gritty.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I want to see games where they can pitch well
- 22:18Speaker 1: and why they can win without a homer. They need
- 22:20Speaker 1: to do that this year.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you just want to see seasons from them that
- 22:23Speaker 2: aren't just the same power hitting lineups on paper, that
- 22:27Speaker 2: aren't hitting for power. And I believe I've said this
- 22:31Speaker 2: to you, Alex, that the way to get back to
- 22:34Speaker 2: championship legitimacy for these Yankees is just to re embrace
- 22:37Speaker 2: the old methods that made the nineties and early two
- 22:39Speaker 2: thousands team so great with your clutch pitching, contact oriented lineups.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Here now, I'm not saying that Judge needs to be
- 22:46Speaker 2: a three thirty hitter or anything like that by any means.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Judge just needs to keep doing what he's doing, denning
- 22:50Speaker 2: ambulances in the San Francisco outfield and just keep pitting
- 22:54Speaker 2: them out.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But today's this weekend's a test. This series is a test.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I know the Mariners, I know it seas it series
- 23:00Speaker 1: number two Ryan, but they are a competitor, they are contender.
- 23:04Speaker 1: The Mariners are the real deal. I want to see
- 23:06Speaker 1: them win at least two in Seattle to start off
- 23:09Speaker 1: on the right foot here.
- 23:10Speaker 2: So no, very much. So now do you think that
- 23:13Speaker 2: maybe we could see an Alcs rematch perhaps Yankees Mariners
- 23:17Speaker 2: come October. I don't know how you really feel about that,
- 23:20Speaker 2: but could that be possible? I know, if all goes well.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I just want to say, twenty twenty six is an
- 23:25Speaker 1: unfinished business year for the Yankees. You cannot tell me
- 23:29Speaker 1: that that first game against Toronto was not. I feel
- 23:33Speaker 1: like it was a bit of a fluke because I
- 23:34Speaker 1: know Toronto was great and they they hung their banner
- 23:37Speaker 1: this weekend, whatever, but that's unfinished business this year. I
- 23:41Speaker 1: don't think we're going to see a team that makes
- 23:44Speaker 1: only one run with bases loaded in the playoffs. I
- 23:46Speaker 1: think they're gonna be better than that this year, I really do.
- 23:48Speaker 1: But it feels like unfinished business for the Yankees this year.
- 23:50Speaker 2: No, they'll definitely do better this year, I'm sure. Especially
- 23:53Speaker 2: i'd love to see oh yeah, who wouldn't. But also
- 23:56Speaker 2: with the pitching reinforcements that they're going to be getting
- 23:58Speaker 2: back come the All Star break and even before that,
- 24:01Speaker 2: I mean Cole Rodin, Clark Schmidt, they're all opening up
- 24:04Speaker 2: the season injured. By the time they get back suddenly,
- 24:07Speaker 2: that's arguably a rotation hearkening back to those nineties years now.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Well, Warren I believe took Clark Schmith's number, which I
- 24:15Speaker 1: found interesting. I think he's twenty nine now, so that's interesting.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But uh, just a little side note there. But one
- 24:21Speaker 1: last thing you saw it yourself Thursday afternoon, Carson Benge.
- 24:27Speaker 1: For those who may not know this kid's story, why
- 24:29Speaker 1: is he a feel good story? They called it a
- 24:31Speaker 1: feel good home run, a great home run debut, But
- 24:33Speaker 1: why what makes him a feel good story.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Well, I think it really just has to do with
- 24:37Speaker 2: the fact that people were questioning if he'd even be
- 24:40Speaker 2: starting on opening Day in the first place. Now, this
- 24:42Speaker 2: isn't to deny Carson Benge's status is one of the
- 24:45Speaker 2: top prospects in the game, there's no doubt about that.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But I don't think a lot of Mets fans are
- 24:50Speaker 2: really expecting him to break onto the scene this quick,
- 24:53Speaker 2: this fast. Because you also have to understand how Carson
- 24:56Speaker 2: Benge's twenty twenty five campaign ended in Syracuse. He got
- 24:59Speaker 2: called up to Triple A late in the season and
- 25:02Speaker 2: he only hit like one seventy eight there or something
- 25:04Speaker 2: like that. In fact, I was one of the people
- 25:06Speaker 2: banging the drums for him to, you know, maybe start
- 25:09Speaker 2: the season in Syracuse unless he hits the ball completely
- 25:12Speaker 2: off the cover in spring training, which sure enough, that's
- 25:15Speaker 2: exactly what he did. And the fact that Mike Talkman
- 25:18Speaker 2: he got hurt in one of the last spring training games,
- 25:20Speaker 2: it really more or less just opened up the door
- 25:22Speaker 2: for Bench to come in make an immediate impact.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I'm talking about the way I've always liked him.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Yeah, he's somebody that I always wish would be able
- 25:30Speaker 2: to get a consistent role there because he can hit,
- 25:33Speaker 2: and he can hit well at that He just needs
- 25:35Speaker 2: that consistent role to really establish his presence, I would say,
- 25:40Speaker 2: as one of the more underrated outfield bats right now.
- 25:44Speaker 2: But getting back to bench making an immediate impact now,
- 25:48Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting that much off of Paul Skins here.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I mean, striking out in your first at bat can
- 25:54Speaker 2: fault him there, especially against Paul Skeens still less, never
- 25:57Speaker 2: mind the fact that he didn't even last an inning,
- 25:59Speaker 2: but also to go deep in your third at bat
- 26:03Speaker 2: and to get the whole crowd loving you right there.
- 26:07Speaker 1: The six sale to the fans, Yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 2: The salute to the fans, getting the curtain call, and
- 26:11Speaker 2: then coming back into right field after that half inning. Listen,
- 26:15Speaker 2: I was sitting in three ZHO one. Everybody there was
- 26:17Speaker 2: given bed a standing out. They were all channing his name,
- 26:19Speaker 2: and he was acknowledging the guys. I love it channing
- 26:22Speaker 2: his name. You just love to see that out there,
- 26:24Speaker 2: because I mean, benj just single handedly deserved to make
- 26:29Speaker 2: this team the way he was hitting the ball off
- 26:31Speaker 2: and then his reaction finding out he made the team
- 26:33Speaker 2: was just wholesome, raw. Everybody loved to see it. Now
- 26:38Speaker 2: you just have to hope at this point that he
- 26:41Speaker 2: doesn't turn out like the last Met to hit a
- 26:44Speaker 2: homer on their first game in Opening Day cash Mats
- 26:47Speaker 2: Sue was the last, of course, two thousand and four,
- 26:50Speaker 2: but that one was I guess, slightly different circumstances, just
- 26:53Speaker 2: for the fact that it was his first ever pitch
- 26:56Speaker 2: in the big leagues that he saw, but everything else
- 26:58Speaker 2: was just kind of downhill from there. So I'm hoping
- 27:00Speaker 2: the same does not happen for Carson Bedch. But we
- 27:04Speaker 2: have a lot of faith in him. Us Mets fans
- 27:06Speaker 2: have a lot of faith and he very much could
- 27:09Speaker 2: be the Pidalonzo replacement that these guys are looking for.
- 27:13Speaker 1: All Right. Maybe I'm a a little eager to say
- 27:16Speaker 1: this because I want to see the Pittsburgh back to
- 27:18Speaker 1: you know, prominence a little bit, because there are a
- 27:21Speaker 1: classic teams, they are a classic franchise. I feel like, though,
- 27:24Speaker 1: if you can hold the Mets down as much as
- 27:26Speaker 1: they did, I know Monday Thursday was a bit of
- 27:28Speaker 1: a mess, but the rest of the series they actually
- 27:30Speaker 1: tightened up their pitching. That's scary. I mean, if you
- 27:33Speaker 1: could shut down a Soto Lindore team the way they
- 27:37Speaker 1: did the last couple of days. Maybe they are going
- 27:40Speaker 1: to have some turnaround here this year.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And they were so close to doing that on Saturday too,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and until Luis robert first homer as a met to
- 27:47Speaker 2: walk off. What a way to introduce yourself to Queen's
- 27:50Speaker 2: right there. But I don't really look at it as
- 27:54Speaker 2: a huge win from the Mets per se. But it's
- 27:56Speaker 2: more so just a bell out of some of the
- 27:58Speaker 2: mistakes that I noticed from Carlos Mendoza, especially over the
- 28:01Speaker 2: weekend as well. And I was jotting this down earlier
- 28:05Speaker 2: thinking about what I want to say here in these
- 28:07Speaker 2: Monday musings as far as what I would have done
- 28:10Speaker 2: better if I were Carlos Mendoza, And really this is
- 28:14Speaker 2: just a Saturday and a Sunday kind of thing, more
- 28:16Speaker 2: so Sunday. But there still are a couple questionable decisions
- 28:20Speaker 2: from Saturday either way. A lot of it, I feel
- 28:23Speaker 2: like has to do with pitching Dicky Lovelady and clutch
- 28:26Speaker 2: situations like he pitched in the eleventh gave up a
- 28:30Speaker 2: run which didn't even matter in the end. With Robert's
- 28:33Speaker 2: first walk off homer as a met but then a
- 28:37Speaker 2: day later not even who's pitching to start the tenth,
- 28:40Speaker 2: So I didn't really understand that whatsoever. Something else I
- 28:44Speaker 2: also didn't understand was pinch hitting Jared Young in the
- 28:48Speaker 2: ninth for Louis Terentz. Now I completely understand taking out
- 28:52Speaker 2: Terrenz for the defensive replacement in Francisco Alvarez and making
- 28:57Speaker 2: sure the Trens isn't spending ten whole innings behind the dish.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I can get behind that, but surely you can do
- 29:03Speaker 2: better as far as a pinch hitter goes than Jared Young,
- 29:06Speaker 2: because if anything, two outs nobody on base, you need
- 29:11Speaker 2: somebody to at least just get on base for that
- 29:14Speaker 2: top of the order to perhaps do something here. Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 2: and then with the sweep, but then that just didn't
- 29:21Speaker 2: happen here, Francisco Lindor send home. He thought he had
- 29:25Speaker 2: the chance to score the tying ron and that double
- 29:27Speaker 2: in the gap from Juan Soto, thought he had a
- 29:29Speaker 2: chance to beat the throw, but it just didn't happen.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I will credit the Pittsburgh defense a lot for just
- 29:36Speaker 2: making the better plays in that moment right then and there,
- 29:39Speaker 2: making the good throws to and they be a guy
- 29:41Speaker 2: like Lindor out.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Ryan O'Hearn made his name, made his bones really in
- 29:45Speaker 1: Baltimore ONEO Cruz. We all know how good a guy
- 29:49Speaker 1: he is.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, well, at least when he's wearing sun shades
- 29:51Speaker 2: in the outfield.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean that's that's what that was Opening Day.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I'm just saying the Pirates seem like they have a
- 29:57Speaker 1: bit more stock this year than they have in.
- 29:58Speaker 2: The sure and especially the way that Brandon he's been
- 30:00Speaker 2: in the cover off the ball. See, I'm regarding him
- 30:03Speaker 2: as a Met killer now. He's been that good against
- 30:06Speaker 2: the Mets just in this one series alone. And I'm
- 30:08Speaker 2: not looking forward to when they go to Pittsburgh and
- 30:11Speaker 2: they got a face bread a law again. I don't
- 30:13Speaker 2: know what's gonna happen there, but.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Well, Pegs, any road games you're looking at this.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Year, well very much may be the case. There is
- 30:21Speaker 2: one in particular that I am looking at, and it
- 30:23Speaker 2: is when the Mets visit Philadelphia for the first time
- 30:27Speaker 2: this season, mostly just because of the Boba sheet drama
- 30:31Speaker 2: and all a lot of Mets, a lot of Phillies fans,
- 30:33Speaker 2: they've been having that series circled on their calendars June
- 30:38Speaker 2: eighteenth through the twenty first. Excuse me, and I know
- 30:43Speaker 2: a lot of Philly fans are going to be booing
- 30:45Speaker 2: Boba chev for not wanting to sign with them. I
- 30:48Speaker 2: just don't get that personally, because look, at least with Soto,
- 30:54Speaker 2: Yankees fans were justified in feeling anger against him because
- 31:00Speaker 2: he at least played for the team. Right with Bobaschett,
- 31:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry, when did he ever play an inning of
- 31:06Speaker 2: baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 31:07Speaker 1: He never did.
- 31:08Speaker 2: He never did, and they're still mad at him just
- 31:10Speaker 2: because they didn't. He didn't want to choose a roster
- 31:13Speaker 2: that's probably on the downhill.
- 31:15Speaker 1: That would be like the Pirates fans being mad at
- 31:16Speaker 1: Swarber for not picking them. But look, Schwarbert is a
- 31:19Speaker 1: Philly guy, so I have a few.
- 31:21Speaker 2: But also, where the Pirates really ever gonna pony up
- 31:24Speaker 2: the money for Kyle Schwarber. I mean, before they signed
- 31:27Speaker 2: Ryan O'Hearn to a two year deal, the last multi
