- 0:23Speaker 1: Like a wild sort of party guy.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Don't you think Well, you know, maybe there's not much
- 0:29Speaker 2: else to do except that one, you know. Well, the
- 0:32Speaker 2: other thing is on sales tax. If you're from out
- 0:35Speaker 2: of state, you do not have to pay the state
- 0:36Speaker 2: sales tax. Obviously, most people don't bother unless it's a.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but you have to apply to have it lifted.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's a pain in the neck. It's better just.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Well, you know, years ago, if you buy a car,
- 0:48Speaker 2: I bought a car in Jersey, right? And they did
- 0:51Speaker 2: not charge me the tax there. I lived in New York.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I had to pay the tax at Motor Vehicle. the
- 0:56Speaker 2: New York State amount.
- 0:58Speaker 1: All right, but you live in Bayshore. You went all
- 1:00Speaker 1: the way to New Jersey?
- 1:02Speaker 2: No, in those days, I lived in Bay Ridge in Brooklyn.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It was an easy hop. And actually, I wanted a
- 1:09Speaker 2: special car, so I got what I was looking for.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Were you buying like a Batmobile? What do you mean
- 1:15Speaker 1: a special car? What kind of special?
- 1:16Speaker 2: No, no, I got an old, I got a 93
- 1:19Speaker 2: Olds Cutlass Convertible. I don't know if you remember the
- 1:21Speaker 2: one with the roll bar across it.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I would drive to another state Just not to get
- 1:27Speaker 1: an old Cutlass converter. Why would you want to drive
- 1:29Speaker 1: them around? That's like a car from happy days.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Well, it was a 93. It was rare. Oh, okay.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And I drove it like 178,000 miles, so I got my.
- 1:42Speaker 1: No, they were well-made, those cars. All right, Richard, thanks
- 1:45Speaker 1: for calling. Those car collectors, they love the craziest kind
- 1:48Speaker 1: of stuff. Let's go to Greg in Long Island. Greg,
- 1:51Speaker 1: how are you doing? Mark, good morning.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I wanted to respectfully invite to your attention the mistakes
- 1:58Speaker 3: you're making about pumpkin picking.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 3: And the therapeutic value of getting away from supermarkets and
- 2:06Speaker 3: running a car through parking lots.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Pumpkin picking is great for a guy like you. I'm
- 2:11Speaker 1: talking about normal people. Normal people, we don't have to
- 2:13Speaker 1: drive to a middle of nowhere.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I've considered this. It's a big part of the tourist industry.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It's not only pumpkin picking, it's strawberry picking. And people
- 2:25Speaker 3: who do that also find their way to the wine
- 2:29Speaker 3: tasting at the vineyards. This is true not just of
- 2:31Speaker 3: Long Island, but of Connecticut.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I hate to break it to you, but right on
- 2:34Speaker 1: this block, there are two supermarkets. One over there, one
- 2:37Speaker 1: over there. I can pick all the strawberries I want.
- 2:39Speaker 1: There's 19 restaurants.
- 2:41Speaker 3: But don't you do enough of that?
- 2:43Speaker 1: I got all the wine I want right here without going.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Why do I have to drive out three hours in
- 2:47Speaker 1: the middle of nowhere to have wine?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Because it's God's. You get out into the open air.
- 2:53Speaker 3: It's God's country. It's therapeutic value is remarkable for people.
- 2:58Speaker 3: They should try it. And you're contributing to the tourist economy.
- 3:01Speaker 1: All right, but listen, I do get out all the time.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I went to Long Island the other day. I drove out.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I was in Manhasset. I was in Americana. I was
- 3:08Speaker 1: in Garden City. No more beautiful place than Garden City.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I was in Huntington. I was out in God's... I
- 3:13Speaker 1: don't have to drive another two hours out to a
- 3:15Speaker 1: vineyard somewhere at the end of Long Island.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Well, you take into consideration the fact that when you
- 3:22Speaker 3: have this regular visits that you go to, it's good.
- 3:26Speaker 3: But try something different now and then. Try strawberry picking
- 3:31Speaker 3: in June.
- 3:32Speaker 1: It's beautiful.
- 3:33Speaker 3: If you ever hear that I went strawberry picking, have
- 3:37Speaker 3: me committed.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Strawberry picking? What are you, nuts?
- 3:41Speaker 4: It's great, I'm telling you.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And it's only part of what you bring your family with.
- 3:47Speaker 3: to enjoy, and it's not all you do. You get
- 3:50Speaker 3: to see the atmosphere. It sinks in. It becomes part
- 3:54Speaker 3: of your life. It makes you appreciate that there's more
- 3:57Speaker 3: than just cities.
- 3:58Speaker 1: What is this guy in a cult? Hey, where do
- 4:01Speaker 1: you live in Long Island?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Oh, I'm out on the North Fork of the East End.
- 4:08Speaker 1: You're 10 minutes away from the pumpkins. If it was
- 4:10Speaker 1: three hours away, you wouldn't be driving out there.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Well, that's just it. You have a lot of people
- 4:16Speaker 3: who yearn to get away from places like Garden City.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I share your cherished view of Garden City and places
- 4:23Speaker 3: like that.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Garden City is the most beautiful place in the world.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You know, if you go, they got Ivorone Brothers there,
- 4:28Speaker 1: the great supermarket. Go in there. They got all kinds
- 4:31Speaker 1: of strawberries. They're really fresh.
- 4:34Speaker 3: But when you visit eastern Long Island, you're seeing what
- 4:37Speaker 3: those places were like. ages ago. It's going back in time.
- 4:42Speaker 3: It's magnificent. And there are very few places like that left.
- 4:45Speaker 3: That fight is going on to preserve places like that
- 4:48Speaker 3: all over the country. And I urge those who are
- 4:51Speaker 3: engaged in that fight to stick with it. It's worth
- 4:54Speaker 3: saving your heritage. That's what Long Island is on the
- 4:56Speaker 3: East End.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Well, if you ever notice Long Island, you're like exit 36, 38, 39,
- 5:00Speaker 1: Manhasset Gardens. The traffic is unbelievable. You ever notice when
- 5:03Speaker 1: you get out to the strawberry fields, there's no traffic?
- 5:06Speaker 1: That's because it's not that interesting to people. Nobody wants
- 5:08Speaker 1: to go there.
- 5:09Speaker 3: No, it is. The traffic is quite heavy at this
- 5:11Speaker 3: time of the year.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, for two minutes on Sunday.
- 5:14Speaker 3: We're the Unhamptons. We're the North Forks. The South Fork
- 5:18Speaker 3: is what you're talking about with the commercialization.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You are the Unhamptons. But you notice the house in
- 5:23Speaker 1: the Hamptons is $ 25 million. A house where you are
- 5:25Speaker 1: is like $ 1. 50 million. That's the reason.
- 5:28Speaker 3: A little more than that.
- 5:29Speaker 1: A little more.
- 5:30Speaker 3: But anyway.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Good guy, Greg.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Pumpkin picking a chance.
- 5:34Speaker 1: All right. We'll put you in the Chamber of Commerce.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Thanks for calling. Let's go to Elaine in Brooklyn. Elaine,
- 5:39Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 5:40Speaker 4: Good morning. I just wanted to mention Kathy Hochul has
- 5:44Speaker 4: been on the board of directors at Cornell. You can
- 5:48Speaker 4: tell me that she didn't know about this girl being raped.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Oh, I can tell you that she generally doesn't know
- 5:53Speaker 1: about anything going on. If there's somebody who. As clueless
- 5:56Speaker 1: as to what's going on, it'd be Kathy Hochul.
- 5:59Speaker 4: What a pity.
- 6:00Speaker 3: What a pity.
- 6:00Speaker 4: All the more reason to vote for Blakeman.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Vote for Blakeman. Everybody should. All right. Thanks for calling. Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 1: help Bruce Blakeman. Go to BlakemanForNewYork.com. You can contribute. You
- 6:09Speaker 1: can do all that there. And we'll get back to
- 6:12Speaker 1: Kathy Hochul appoints Letitia James, a woman who's never prosecuted
- 6:16Speaker 1: a criminal case in her life. No experience as a prosecutor.
- 6:21Speaker 1: We got time for one more? Nah, not really. Well,
- 6:23Speaker 1: we'll have to do one more real fast. Jack in
- 6:25Speaker 1: Orange County. Jack, how you doing?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Hi, Mark.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I have this idea that I hope President Trump catches on.
- 6:34Speaker 3: He likes to rename things. I would like to see
- 6:38Speaker 3: the Republican Party change from a red state to a
- 6:43Speaker 3: gold state.
- 6:44Speaker 1: A lot of confusion out there. Oh, please, don't say
- 6:46Speaker 1: gold around this guy. We love President Trump, but they'll
- 6:50Speaker 1: put gold on everything. Oh, my God. Everything is gold
- 6:53Speaker 1: with him. You know, you need sunglasses just to go
- 6:55Speaker 1: to his apartment. There's so much shiny stuff everywhere. Hey,
- 6:58Speaker 1: when we come back, the greatest columnist in America. We'll
- 7:02Speaker 1: talk to Michael Goodwin next about all sorts of stuff
- 7:05Speaker 1: coming up on 710WOR.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Com.
