- 0:18Speaker 2: We have twenty past six and with us now as
- 0:20Speaker 2: Jamie mckaye, host of the Country Good I Heather, how
- 0:24Speaker 2: are you? Oh?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Hang on, Jamie, I've got your music to play for
- 0:26Speaker 1: now the Rural Report with Farmland's don't let unsafe gears
- 0:30Speaker 1: slow you down? Here you go that that'll feel better now,
- 0:33Speaker 1: won't it.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yes, Well, I've got to look after Farmland's form sponsors.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Listen, talk to me about the India FDA. You feeling excited, Well.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm very excited. Well, I'm a lot more excited than Winston.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Let's put it that way. Look, I think the numbers
- 0:47Speaker 2: speak for themselves. Heither and I know you've had someone
- 0:50Speaker 2: from Business desk on already talking about this today. Ninety
- 0:54Speaker 2: five These are the key numbers for me. Ninety five
- 0:57Speaker 2: percent of New Zealand exports to India will either eliminate
- 1:01Speaker 2: or reduce tariffs. Eighty two percent of all exports will
- 1:05Speaker 2: become terror free, fifty seven percent basically on day one. Now,
- 1:10Speaker 2: the question is, ever, when is day one of this
- 1:15Speaker 2: agreement going to come into place, obviously, I've got to
- 1:17Speaker 2: run it through Parliament and run through the various processes there.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I stid speak to Todd McLay and Singapore on his
- 1:24Speaker 2: way home from India. That man doesn't charge much for accommodation.
- 1:29Speaker 2: He just sleeps on planes, by the way, And he
- 1:32Speaker 2: said it's true. He flew all the way to India
- 1:34Speaker 2: last year, didn't even stay, slept on the way over,
- 1:39Speaker 2: slept on plane on the way home. We need more
- 1:42Speaker 2: politicians like him. But he's hoping to get this done
- 1:45Speaker 2: before the election. And if I was Todd McLay and
- 1:49Speaker 2: Christopher Luxen and Nichola Willis, I'd want this done before
- 1:52Speaker 2: the election just in case, just saying, Heather, in case
- 1:55Speaker 2: Chippy changes his mind.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yep, this is a fair point from you.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Now tell me what is your alternative because you're a
- 2:02Speaker 2: bit worried about the trucking and the fact that it
- 2:04Speaker 2: might cause the potholes. So what's your alternative here? Well, no,
- 2:07Speaker 2: it's just interesting. I totally get what's And I heard
- 2:10Speaker 2: the bloke from Mainfraid I think it was on with
- 2:12Speaker 2: the host this morning. And you know, we've obviously got
- 2:16Speaker 2: the capacity with the trucks to take more weight, make
- 2:20Speaker 2: it more fuel efficient on a weight basis. The only
- 2:25Speaker 2: thing I would say after driving around central Otago for
- 2:29Speaker 2: the long Anzac weekend is that, you know, I just
- 2:32Speaker 2: hope our roads can take these bigger vehicles. That's the
- 2:35Speaker 2: only reason we haven't got them on now, because they
- 2:38Speaker 2: just cause more damage to our roads. Our roads are
- 2:40Speaker 2: a bit of a dog's breakfast as it stands at
- 2:43Speaker 2: the moment, if you ask me, and I'm just putting
- 2:45Speaker 2: it out there, I'm just flying a kite. I'm not
- 2:47Speaker 2: saying I necessarily agree with it, but could we be
- 2:52Speaker 2: to use old word vernacular like a penny wise and
- 2:55Speaker 2: a pound foolish. Yes, we're going to save some diesel,
- 2:58Speaker 2: but at what cost to our natural our national roading structure,
- 3:03Speaker 2: because we all know we haven't got enough money even
- 3:06Speaker 2: to maintain our roads, let alone build some of these
- 3:10Speaker 2: new roads of national significance. And I look at some
- 3:13Speaker 2: of the really good roads in this country, and I'm
- 3:15Speaker 2: thinking of the Highway from Auckland down to Hamilton Cambridge,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and I think of that Eastern toll Road out of
- 3:21Speaker 2: Taaronga to Poki out that way. They're great roads. We
- 3:26Speaker 2: need more of those. Despite what Julie and Jentis says,
- 3:29Speaker 2: my only thought would be maybe we could look and
- 3:32Speaker 2: this is once again from driving around Central Otago over
- 3:35Speaker 2: the long Anzac weekend, Heather, we could look at banning
- 3:39Speaker 2: camp evans simply because they clogged the roads, They slow traffic,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and they ultimately slow productivity. Just an idea. The campavan
- 3:47Speaker 2: owners are going to hate on me, but just before
- 3:49Speaker 2: you do hate on me, look in your rear vision
- 3:52Speaker 2: mirror when there are seven cars behind you too.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Right, Thank you, Jamie Jami mckaie hosts of the Country.
