- 0:00Yo yo yo yo yo. Was good. We are back. You already
- 0:04know what's going on. It's the Grounded Show. I got my dog,
- 0:07Leicester Sanchez and Josito man sixty me on sixty. Wow, yeah, man,
- 0:17it's it's it's been a it's been a crazy, crazy week. Man.
- 0:20I feel like for everybody kind of just got a lot going on.
- 0:23Man. Um, you know, unexpectedly I had my sister, nieces and
- 0:29nephews kind of come to the house. They're going through a transitionary period right
- 0:33now. And honestly, even just being in the situation to be able to,
- 0:37um have the space so open my place up, you know, that's
- 0:41a blessing within itself, you know. So I definitely am thankful for that,
- 0:45you know what I mean, because it wasn't always this way, like
- 0:48yeah, and how perfect it is with all that space facts family like that
- 0:56facts man facts. Um. Yeah. So it's like, you know,
- 0:59that a good, good feeling to be able to do that. And with
- 1:03that being said, obviously with the pros, there's the cons. And I
- 1:07wouldn't say it's a con, it's more so just something I'm not used to.
- 1:08I'm not used to having, you know, kids in the house and
- 1:11as much as you know in future I would hope to have kids one day,
- 1:15I'm just still nowhere near ready or used to it. It's something that
- 1:18you'll never be ready or used to until you're in that situation and you know,
- 1:22it's has been a transition, you know. So, Um, basically
- 1:26that's kind of been my week, man, you know, my week,
- 1:29my fiance's week. We're just trying to figure that out and make sure everybody's
- 1:33comfortable, but also making sure that we're comfortable, you know. So that's
- 1:38definitely been a adjustment. But you know again, you you kind of let's
- 1:44ask with everything that we go through, do you feel it's something that you
- 1:47felt you were naturally easy to transition to, Like, oh, this is
- 1:51this is something like I can handle it. Oh yeah, brou oh yeah,
- 1:55and it's dope. Not just me, my fiance too, which is
- 1:57a beautiful thing to see. Like I see her parenting skills, you know
- 2:00what I'm saying. I see like, um, what do you call it?
- 2:04Like just the way she interacts with the kids and how you know,
- 2:07her experience is being a dance teacher to children, you know what I'm saying,
- 2:12and being able to take you know, what she's learning in that experience
- 2:15and apply it to like just her parenting style. Super dope, super super
- 2:20dope. I feel like we both were, um, you know, we
- 2:23both were not really prepared because, like I said, I don't think you
- 2:28ever can be prepared for it. But I feel like we both just have
- 2:30like the personalities and um, the you know, the wherewithoughts to just be
- 2:35able to transition into that and be comfortable. You know. I think for
- 2:38us it's just more so you know, again, when you don't have kids,
- 2:43you know, you just not used to having kids. You know,
- 2:46you're not used to hearing them all day, You're not used to all of
- 2:50that that comes with this. So it's like, um, you know,
- 2:52that's kind of just been a big transition for us. You know. And
- 2:54then we're also kind of neat freaks too, so it's like, you know,
- 2:59have to like constantly pick behind pick up behind them. You know what
- 3:02I'm saying. It's like, obviously they're kids, so I'm not expecting them
- 3:06as young kids to be like, oh d l D cleaning up. But
- 3:09at the same time, you know what I'm saying, that's also like the
- 3:13parenting style all of that comes into play, you know, so it's super
- 3:15dope to see that. Um yeah, man, it's actually it's funny because
- 3:20it had opposite effects on both of us. Like for her, you know,
- 3:23hey, she need a little bit more time. For me, I
- 3:27was like, hey man, whenever we're ready, you know what I'm saying.
- 3:29So yeah, overall it's been cool. Man. It's just like I
- 3:31said that transition and that's okay. Can you hear me normal? I think
- 3:38I hear you pretty pretty well. Yeah, okay, you know that's always
- 3:44saying real quick, just sound thing. I would say, less you sell
- 3:46a lot lower than me, and Quincy does too. How do you hear
- 3:51less a Quincy? Yo? Yo yo yo? Better? Better? Yeah?
- 3:53I hear you good? Yeah better. Yeah, you're sounding a little
- 3:58low to me, Joe. I'm gonna just turn my music down so I
- 4:01can hear both. Y'all good, and then we'll just figure it out later.
- 4:04But um, I definitely fear where you're coming from, Quincy, because
- 4:09my wife is like super neat freak too, bro, and she just my
- 4:13kids are like me, Bro, They're just there's their rooms are crazy,
- 4:17like they're just like I was the same way when I was a kid,
- 4:20and I'm still kind of that way like now, bro, and she just
- 4:25it drives her crazy having three of us in the house, you know what
- 4:27I mean. But yeah, and that's what I wanted to know, you
- 4:32know, coming from me being the only pretty much the only one out of
- 4:36our group, out of both our main groups without kids. It's dope when
- 4:44you do have kids around, like when my niece was here for those ten
- 4:46days, you know, and it was dope. And I prepared as much
- 4:50as I can, Like that is my the closest thing I have for a
- 4:54kid. Like I treat her like she's my daughter. She's my god daughter,
- 4:58and I treat her like she's my daughter. And she respects me like
- 5:00if I was her dad. Yeah. Yeah, And that's why we have
- 5:04such a good relationship. And that's why I know, like at any time
- 5:09anything happens, I got to take care of kids. I can take care
- 5:12of kids. I got to Yeah. Yeah. I feel that it's not
- 5:15having them around for so long and then having them around, especially having around
- 5:18permanently. It's a it's a self transition, not only the environment transition and
- 5:25what you got to do, but mentally you have to wake up every morning
- 5:29and no longer think of yourself first. You know facts. But I will
- 5:31say, man, having them around, it's been dope, you know what
- 5:33I'm saying. It's the way like seeing the way kids think, you know,
- 5:36and when you're not used to it or when you haven't seen it for
- 5:40a long time, like's it's super dope, you know what I'm saying.
- 5:43It's it's It's kind of funny, bro Like, I randomly just be hearing
- 5:46my music playing, like video. They watch my videos way more than I
- 5:49thought, But I did not know how often they watch my music videos.
- 5:54Bro. Like, I'll just be walking in and they're playing my music all
- 5:56the time. We're just super dope. But yeah, man, it's it's
- 5:59cool. Yeah I feel that. Um it's funny man because whenever I'm in
- 6:04the car with my kids and one of my songs comes on, like in
- 6:08my iTunes a library or whatever, I'll skip it, you know, because
- 6:12I just I want to hear it, you know what I mean, right,
- 6:15And um, you know, because we hear it so much like getting
- 6:17creating, I mean in the beginning of the release that like it takes you
- 6:21a while to even just come back to it. Sometimes you always get like
- 6:26mad at me. You know, they're like like, oh now, I
- 6:28just get bad that he never wants to hear his own songs. That's funny,
- 6:36man. Shoot. But speaking of you know, just experiences and you
- 6:43know all that kind of stuff, man, Joe, you know you had
- 6:46a whole experience. I guess what was it this week? Last week?
- 6:48When when was that? Yeah? So this is something right, So there's
- 6:53something. It's a topic I think we need to get into. Um.
- 6:57I heard a lot of stuff out David car Yo. You know, I
- 7:00bad dog. You sound so low compared to Quincy Bro. Like Quincy is
- 7:03like sounding like real sexually confident, and like when you come in, you
- 7:09sound like an insecure mouse Bro the same thing with you, exactly the same
- 7:14level with you, damn. Yeah. And I'm just I'm just dealing with
- 7:17it. I'm not turning you up. I mean, that's what I mean.
- 7:19I hear the exact same thing with you. Damn. That's so weird,
- 7:24man, But you know what, it kind of ties into everything we've
- 7:29kind of been talking about and stuff like because we're just gonna prevails, turn
- 7:34off my music so I can hear you and I don't have to keep fighting
- 7:38with it. They made an update in here, so I think we all
- 7:42got what about now, how does this sound any different? So yeah,
- 7:47Quincy is still sounding loud of you, but it's cool. No, don't
- 7:50do that. Do that, and that's what I mean. Let's that it's
- 8:00the same thing, Quincy. I think Quincy is just in a better connection
- 8:03than that's right now with a pleasant surprise. Yeah, yeah, you sound
- 8:09like maybe you're clad. Hey, maybe you try to turn your mic down
- 8:16a little, Quincy, because now that I think about it, now that
- 8:18Joe mentions it, you do sound like you're coming in hot damn, but
- 8:28you hear all the noises outside. I think it's a different mic picking it
- 8:31up. It's crazy. I don't know. Oh yeah, I get what
- 8:31you're saying. Yeah, Quincy, just tap your desks. How about this?
- 8:37It sounds better. You could come come away from it a little bit.
- 8:41That's a little better, right there, Still a little lot you could
- 8:45turn it down a little bit. Hey man, this is episode sixty and
- 8:48this is the first time you're hearing us have this kind of issue. So
- 8:50I think that's a pretty pretty this this software though, because there's hell a
- 8:56new options here that weren't here before. Yeah, check is that better?
- 9:03You're coming in miraculous, let's get it any louder. I'm a break but
- 9:09yeah, man, um, like I was saying, man, we we've
- 9:11been all having I mean we had this recently too on the podcast. I
- 9:16feel like, um, maybe like six months ago if that where we were
- 9:22all kind of in that like funky little gray area period um. And I
- 9:31know for me specifically, it's been kind of uh like like different this time
- 9:35around. But to bring you up behind the current a little bit, last
- 9:39week we recorded on a different day. The schedule has been a little wacky,
- 9:43but it was because Joe wanted an opportunity and he's about to let y'all
- 9:48know exactly what the opportunity was. Coming in right, I'm coming in right
- 9:54here? Yeah, all right, David Copperfield, right we I I have
- 10:01been a fan of David Copperfield as a kid. I used to While I'm
- 10:03a big magic fan, I'm a fan of believing in the illusion. You
- 10:09know, there's people you show a magic too, they don't want to believe
- 10:11it. But I'm a fan of believing in it and letting the magic happen.
- 10:15So so you're the type of person that you would go if you went
- 10:18to a wrestling show. You're not gonna be like, oh my god,
- 10:20this is yeah exactly. Yeah, yeah. You're just gonna accept the art
- 10:24form that's in front of you and just try to enjoy it the most of
- 10:28you can take it for what it is. That's a great consumer, right
- 10:31there. Great being a huge fan growing up and accepting the magic. And
- 10:39you know, especially David Copperfield, I used to hear things like his magic
- 10:43is so good. People think he sold his soul to the devil. That's
- 10:46how good it is. Like there has to be something crazy behind it,
- 10:48right, And he still has a show here, he's still a resident here
- 10:54and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. But now that I've been here a
- 11:00few years, aside from fights and award shows, MGM ain't all that.
- 11:07It's a staple for the name, but it ain't all that. And where
- 11:11he was performing it ain't all that. So I'm like, okay, but
- 11:16you know, we got the show. We're like, let's go, let
- 11:18let's go see it. We've been here three years, we haven't seen it.
- 11:20We talked about seeing us go see it, and I'm like if he's
- 11:26still that big and he's still that good, why is he in that venue?
- 11:30But I was like, all right, let's go. So we get
- 11:31there, the show starts. There's black boxes in front of us where we
- 11:37put our phones because we can't have our phones out. The whole show about
- 11:41an hour away hour anticipation, and it's just like, honestly, is the
- 11:46size of a movie theater. That is the auditorium that he performed in.
- 11:52And and then the show started, and first of all, he looks like
- 11:58he has like like a um, a bulletproof vest, like those vests that
- 12:05they put on when you're gonna like fly through the rafters and shit, you
- 12:09know. So it's like, why does he look like that? All right,
- 12:11fuck it? Still watching And then bro, just like the rest of
- 12:15the show became predictable. The boy, I I don't want to figure it
- 12:20out, but I can obviously see what you're doing. Then he had like
- 12:24fake actors in the audience. So to me, he's no longer a magician
- 12:28trying to provide an illusion. He's put it on a show and the show
- 12:33is the theme of magic, and I think that took away from who he
- 12:37was. And then to wrap it all up, Bro had more like a
- 12:43more like a theme park kind of vibe, like like a theme parks,
- 12:45not even done like that. And this next part of answer it, the
- 12:48way he wraps it all up is aliens and dinosaurs and there's a little fake
- 12:56green alien that looks like baby Yoda who came to give him a man message
- 13:00from his dad, and Bro it turned into a movie or like a ride,
- 13:05like you're going through a ride, Bro, not a magic show.
- 13:09Adam. So I read about this and I'd got their views and I'm like,
- 13:15so why, like why is he still doing this? Like why is
- 13:18he still going? And obviously people are buying it, but like I said,
- 13:22there's a lot of free tickets. There's a lot of free tickets you
- 13:26can get to Davidcabo. It's one of the main shows you can get free
- 13:28tickets too, and there's not many shows. But he's still doing it.
- 13:31And so I'm like, and look, you look at athletes, you look
- 13:35at artists, magicians, anything. It's like probably the money, yeah,
- 13:41but outside something And then this kind of motivation talk we talked with less,
- 13:46like what is really pushing you to still do it? That's gonna really like
- 13:50because he's giving it all. I mean, he's throwing it all out there,
- 13:54like giving it everything, like if it was his first day on the
- 13:58job, and it can't be just the money. And that's what I'm like,
- 14:01brou to me as a fan of him, as from you too.
- 14:07Now I'm one of the Nah, I'm probably never going to see this guy's
- 14:11show again, And personally, I think he needs to hang it up.
- 14:16What I'm wondering is like, I know, I'm not the only fields that
- 14:18way. So either he's ignoring those people, he doesn't know all those people.
- 14:22It's just like to me, it's like, what is keeping this guy
- 14:24doing this right now? Like to me, he's not contributing to the legacy
- 14:28that JAF David Copperfield originally was. Man, go ahead. I was gonna
- 14:35say maybe, and I mean I'm just speculating at this point, but maybe
- 14:39he doesn't and maybe he no longer cares about legacy. Maybe he's like he
- 14:45just wants to check, you know what I'm saying, Like, Um,
- 14:48I mean that's just a speculation, you know. No, that's one of
- 14:50the things I think about too. Maybe he's just like fuck it, Well,
- 14:54that dude's done. I'll do whatever they want. I do whatever's in
- 14:58the cell the day to get the check. And it kind of even goes
- 15:01to where you were saying at the beginning about it, Joe, where you
- 15:05were like, dang, like you you're looking at the venue, you're looking
- 15:07at the style of show and everything. You're you're noticing like a visible fall
- 15:11off. And you know, a lot of times with people like that,
- 15:16not saying for him, because I don't know anything about a story, but
- 15:18a lot of times you start so high or when you get to that moment
- 15:24of highness, you think that that's not going away, you know what i
- 15:26mean, and you live like, oh man, this is this is what
- 15:28I'm going to be on forever. And then when you realize now that's not
- 15:31where I'm gonna be on forever, this thing drives up. It goes to
- 15:35what Quincy said at that point, it's like, okay, now you just
- 15:39you know, now you just need to pay bills, you know what I
- 15:41mean. You can't you can't worry about the legacy when when you ain't even
- 15:48really build it, you know what I'm saying, Because it's like what you're
- 15:52like, And it kind of goes back to like a lot. Thing that
- 15:56has come up a lot when we talk about stuff is like the budget thing,
- 16:00you know what I'm saying. It's like, I feel like that kind
- 16:03of thing that he does. Obviously to pull off bigger illusions, you need
- 16:07more money, and it's like, how much of a return are you gonna
- 16:11get on spending X amount of dollars making it look like you jumped off a
- 16:15building and landed on your feet, Like how much are you gonna make versus
- 16:18how much you're gonna spend to pull that off? You know what I mean?
- 16:22And it's like when you have that, and it's funny because it kind
- 16:26of ties into for example, Travis Scott, he's dropping that Utopia album tonight.
- 16:32You know, by time people hear this, it'll already be out.
- 16:33But it's like he's dropping his new album tonight, and it's an album that
- 16:37has been so highly anticipated because of how high that he went, but after
- 16:41he had that issue with the concert and he kind of just buzz went down.
- 16:45Me being a Travis Scott fan, I didn't even know the album was
- 16:48dropping tomorrow until my brother told me today. Like you know what I'm saying,
- 16:52and I'm and I consider myself a big Travis Scott fan as far as
- 16:55like I listened to his discography regularly. You know what I'm saying, I
- 16:59got something so good point. That's a great point because the only thing I
- 17:03know about him, and like you said, reaching the level where he had
- 17:08the top that I did, the only thing I didn't know about him that
- 17:11it got canceled. But he was planning a show at the Pyramid of Giza
- 17:17for that album. It was in the works. Yeah, they had was
- 17:21booked and then he got unapproved or something, and then they ended up having
- 17:25to move it to another venue. But yeah, bro that he was chasing
- 17:29ship yep. And that's and that happens a lot too, and like and
- 17:33I feel like that's like even like that DJ Callett syndrome, like where we're
- 17:37now like a lot of his music. I feel like it's a parody of
- 17:41his music, if it makes sense, because it's like he went for this
- 17:45thing of like how can I put it? Like when for example, like
- 17:48when we first was listening to college, he was putting together rap records,
- 17:52you know what I mean, Like straight rap records. Like it was like
- 17:55when he started really catching on, it was like he was like bro,
- 17:57I'm gonna put BDCG and Jada Kiss on a record together, which for like
- 18:02the world that he was in, that was like one of the craziest records
- 18:06he could have put together, you know what I'm saying, Because they had
- 18:07a beef. It was like a crazy, like fake little street beef.
- 18:11Everybody was like, oh my gosh, you got them together on a song
- 18:15and they both were spitting, you know what I'm saying. Like he went
- 18:18from that to like, oh, then I'm gonna get Justin Bieber on a
- 18:22rap record and make it hot, you know what I'm saying. And then
- 18:25it's like you're chasing like these big records, big records, so you get
- 18:27to a point where you're just slapping together a whole bunch of artists that are
- 18:32trendy, and you know, get a you know, a familiar sound like
- 18:36you know, it becomes a formula, and then you know, we might
- 18:40even see that, you know, I hope it doesn't happen. I hope
- 18:42he keeps going up, but we might even see the same David Copperfield effect
- 18:45happened to DJ Colleague, where once he's once that fall starts coming. You
- 18:51see what he's doing and you're like, yeah, exactly, and then you're
- 18:53like, ah, it's not hitting the same and it's because, yeah,
- 18:56because this is a formulaic thing that wasn't bag East and anything sustainable. It
- 19:02was least on the fact that you had the budgets to do it. Yeah,
- 19:06And in the wild effect goes away because I remember, like you said,
- 19:11he got them together, he got bibrunn thing. I remember when he
- 19:14got um Hove in Future and Beyonce together, and then he got hovid Nods
- 19:19together. So when he brought Hove Wayne and Rick Ross, Hove had to
- 19:26drop a ten minute verse for it to be any different from any of the
- 19:30whole college ship we've ever heard and co has been who has been active,
- 19:33and he's dropped other verses. So it's like, what whole were we gonna
- 19:37hear now that we haven't already heard on a college track on this and then
- 19:41he has to drive for that, he has to bring out a ten minute
- 19:44verses. It's like and that goes exactly to what we're talking about where jay
- 19:49Z is not one of those that like jay Z's the type that if you
- 19:55see him in a small venue in the future one you're gonna know that it's
- 19:59not gon to be cheap. Two, you're gonna know that he's gonna do
- 20:03it in a way that it looks classy, free. He has the library
- 20:07that he could just stand up there with a mic and he'll captivate you,
- 20:11which is what he brought to that Calid record. It's like the Calid record,
- 20:15there was nothing special about it. The guys have been on songs before,
- 20:19you know, like this whole super collid thing that's kind of like dead
- 20:22already, Like people already are collaborate a lot, so it's not a thing
- 20:26anymore. But jay Z's you know, he approached the record in a way
- 20:30that was completely different and did something completely different and made that record the talking
- 20:37point of the year when it comes to hip hop. That wasn't Calid,
- 20:41you know what I'm saying that that wasn't you know, that wasn't the hype
- 20:45machine that made that. That was jay Z, you know. And that's
- 20:51kind of like tying into what we're talking about, is like you can you
- 20:53can be that. You know, you can find success and you can be
- 20:57that. You know, you know, when you're at your your height is
- 21:03is where you're creating the best. But it's like a lot of times,
- 21:08the best doesn't necessarily mean um, you know, the big budget doesn't doesn't
- 21:15have to be attached to the best, you know what I mean, attached
- 21:18to it, But it doesn't. It's not a requirement, you know what
- 21:22I'm saying. And that's kind of like something that we've even just been talking
- 21:26about lately, like as far as like creating and you know, us being
- 21:32uh because it's you know, we're all in like a little a space where
- 21:34like Quincy's trying to like hone in on his sound musically, Joe's trying to
- 21:41hone in on his vibe and his um skill with the DJing and and doing
- 21:47his sets, like executing him the way that he wants to execute him.
- 21:49And I'm like trying to figure out like how to get out of like I
- 21:53feel like I've been doing well with what I've been doing, but now I'm
- 21:56just like in a routine, like a run of it, and I'm trying
- 22:00to figure out how to break through that rut to like get to that next
- 22:03level with my stuff. And it's like all that, like all those things,
- 22:10none of us can throw money at either of those things and be like,
- 22:12oh if I had a budget of X, I can make it happen
- 22:17time. Yeah, if the money correlated to you dedicating more time to it,
- 22:22we're talking about something else. But as far as just money making the
- 22:26situation better, making all the projects that we're working on better, it's not
- 22:29gonna happen. It's like, you've got to figure out how to perform the
- 22:33best that you can. And shout out to my brother that he was talking
- 22:37to me about this just from operating the most authentic way that you can,
- 22:40you know what I mean. And that kind of when you were talking about
- 22:45David Copperfield with that, and again I'm not I don't know too much about
- 22:48him or Chris Angel, but it made me think of Chris Angel, just
- 22:52because I feel like I hear more of Chris Angel and I see him like,
- 22:55for example, he was on the the Mike Tyson podcast Mad Random.
- 23:00But one of the reasons why he was on there is because from from what
- 23:03you can kind of gather from Chris Angel and just hearing him on different platforms
- 23:07and stuff, is he was the type of dude that where he was just
- 23:10humble and connected all the time. Yeah, yeah, you know what I'm
- 23:12saying. And That's why, like now at the point that he's at,
- 23:17maybe he's able to have like more fruitful ventures because he had a more real
- 23:22thing that he was operating from. You know what I mean, I feel
- 23:26like how David Blaine is too, and Dave Blaine is he still sticks straight
- 23:32to the magical, the illusion, and that's it. Nothink outside of that.
- 23:36He just wants to do that, And that's what I mean. Like,
- 23:37and we also talk about, you know, the money aspect of it,
- 23:41and even though we're not fucking millionaires, I can still say to this
- 23:45day, the money won't change me. The money won't make me do something
- 23:48that's going to tarnish what I built. The money gonna make me do something
- 23:53I don't want to do. And I'm confident in saying that. I know
- 23:57a lot of people say that I'm not doing that, but um, I
- 24:02think that's it's a difference. I think, you know, that way before
- 24:04having the money change people, the person's already liked that way before they get
- 24:10the money facts. It just amplifies it because even to like reiterate what you
- 24:14were saying, Joe, like, and I've said it before on the show,
- 24:17I believe, like Bro like I've like I've been homeless, bro,
- 24:19you know what I'm saying. So like I literally like like I got a
- 24:22different view on money because of that, just from the point of view,
- 24:26like I've seen how how much money is just like it's it's it's like a
- 24:30fallacy, you know what I'm saying, Like it's it's it's just it's almost
- 24:34like a like a fake. It's kind of like I always think about Kaiser
- 24:37Soze when I think about money, because it's kind of like that that kind
- 24:41of idea where it's like a very complex illusion that everybody just kind of like
- 24:45goes along with. Like that's kind of how I feel about it. And
- 24:48it's just so crazy how you can manipulate from being let's say homeless or even
- 24:53not even that extreme, from just being low income to being a millionaire.
- 24:57Like the fact that you can just come up with something to kind of manipulate
- 25:00yourself to that stage, it kind of even tells you how pointless money really
- 25:07is, you know what I mean. That's why even goes back to the
- 25:10thing where like I always say, like keep recording when it comes to music,
- 25:12It's like, you know, if you buy me a better mic,
- 25:18my music is not gonna be better. It's just gonna sound better. But
- 25:21if I keep recording on my crappy mic, when I get to the new
- 25:26mic, my sound is already going to be dope. So me coming through
- 25:32on those sounds, I'm just gonna sound that much better. Mike alone is
- 25:36not going to take me to the next level. You know what I'm saying,
- 25:40And that's exactly I feel about these mixes. Like I'm at the point
- 25:44where I'm doing it at a very low level, and I want to get
- 25:49the best I can personally at this level. So if I get the opportunity
- 25:56to take it to the next level, any format, in any way,
- 25:57any meeting outlet, you're ready to go, I'll be ready by then.
- 26:02I tried to do that. Now I'm gonna sound like a dumbass to more
- 26:04people than I want to hear me. I'll tell you one thing. I
- 26:07know this is kind of backtracking a little bit, but when you were describing
- 26:11that David Copperfield show, it sounded like something I've seen years ago, And
- 26:15if it is the same show, that's a long time to be doing that
- 26:19same show you've seen him? Yeah, Well, I can't really remember because
- 26:25I feel like I was very young or like younger, and I feel like
- 26:29it was something that my mom like had tickets to or something like that,
- 26:32and I just went. But when you described it, it sounded just like
- 26:36what I've seen. Yeah, like a blow up dinosaur blow It's funny because,
- 26:40like you say, the budget right, so he has this big ass
- 26:42dinosaur come out, and then you see the lights are off and shit,
- 26:48and it's like, come on, bro. Yeah. I got to the
- 26:51point where I was just staring, like staring, and my wife was like,
- 26:55you good. I'm like, yeah, I'm ready to go. Yeah.
- 26:59I feel that that's low key, Like why this kind of random?
- 27:03But that's low key why I don't even like one of the movies, bro,
- 27:04because it's like you're doing all this getting ready and you go and then
- 27:08it's like all of these movies just be so underwhelming to me. And it's
- 27:12like I'll be like in the first fifteen minutes, like, dang, I
- 27:15gotta be here for another two hours, dog, Like I'm just I'm so
- 27:18anty to leave. Bro. I personally love the movies. I can't agree
- 27:25with you on that one, but I feel where you're coming from. That's
- 27:27just me I love the movies, man, I just hate it. If
- 27:30I have my own theater, bro, I would be in heaven, dog,
- 27:33like heaven. You know what's funny. I have a pretty like dope
- 27:37sound system and I have like a home theater setup, and I like,
- 27:42like with my fam, I love watching movies and stuff. But like,
- 27:45um, Joe's gonna laugh at me because he's been making fun of me for
- 27:48it. But like, for example, bro, like I won't watch nothing
- 27:52you dog. I just started like rewatching Larry Sanders Dog because that show is
- 27:57just like I just look and it goes back to what we were talking about
- 28:02with the quality. Bro, Like the show you throw it on. And
- 28:04if you're the type of person that like and I understand this, I'm not
- 28:08I'm not judging you. If you're the type of person that can't get past
- 28:11like something looking old, I'm not gonna be able to watch that show.
- 28:15You know what I'm saying. Yeah, the camera's old, you know what
- 28:18I'm saying. Like the way they shot it like it's it's definitely super outdated.
- 28:23May they wrote it the way and the way they shot it um cinematically,
- 28:27like from the point of view of like they shot it correctly. They
- 28:30did everything the right way. It's a great show. It's like they used
- 28:33that old mike exactly. But it's like you watch it, and I watched
- 28:40the show and then I'm watching it back again and I'm like, damgn bro
- 28:42like all of this Like obviously, like the references are outdated, but all
- 28:48of the plots, the jokes, the ideas, the you know, all
- 28:52of it, it still holds up. And even a lot of the stuff
- 28:56they did it in the show was like so different and so you nique to
- 28:59the show and like you even see like a lot of like origins where they
- 29:03come from for like different shows and different just writing styles with like uh as
- 29:10far as like comedy, even because Judd Apatow was one of the producers for
- 29:15that show, like he was like a super fan of it and then he
- 29:18ended up being like a producer on the show and he's to do that row
- 29:22forty year old version like he ushered in that new era of comedy in the
- 29:26two thousands, you know what I'm saying, and he kind of seeing like
- 29:30he kind of got it starts there and like just how much comedy has come
- 29:33from that show and going back to what we're talking about, bro, like
- 29:37it still holds up like it's not that like I feel like, like rest
- 29:41in peace to Gary Shanlin, but like I feel like if we was able
- 29:44to see him now, like at a one man show where like like where
- 29:48you're talking about Joe, like at a venue like that, like those comedians
- 29:52and those types of dudes, like they it holds up like you could just
- 29:55see them in that stripped raw form and come away like damn, bro,
- 29:59like just hype. You know when you were talking about that show, Joe,
- 30:03obviously I had a completely different experience, But the whole time you were
- 30:07talking, I was imagining when I seen Nas for the first time, you
- 30:10know what I'm saying, Like I've seen him at the hard Rock you know
- 30:12what I'm saying, and just like you know, like going in there and
- 30:18seeing the venue and like just kind of like at that point, I understand
- 30:22I already knew, like as far as like how the music goes, and
- 30:26I understood, like, you know, he's not gonna which at the same
- 30:29time, I liked those venues better than for example, like the Amway or
- 30:32whatever, because it's a way better experience. But anyway, the rambling Basically,
- 30:37what I'm trying to say is when I went to see that NA show,
- 30:38he ain't doing nothing spectacular. He just rapped the NA songs that I
- 30:42grew up listening to, you know what I mean. But it was such
- 30:45a dope show and I just loved it and I was there singing every lyric.
- 30:51My homie next to me, We're like looking at each other when a
- 30:53song coming, like, oh this song and we just rapping bro just like,
- 30:56and I'm like, damn, Bro. I seen NAS and just then
- 31:00I just remember thinking like bro, like just like the like the quality of
- 31:06MC that he is in the showmanship and it's just the professionalism of like knowing
- 31:11his songs and being like a sharp artist as far as like being able to
- 31:15perform him still sound good and stuff like those are the kind of things you
- 31:19appreciate, you know what I mean. So my question to you, Joe
- 31:22is do you feel like the lower quality of show had to do specifically with
- 31:32the low quality venue slash things that he did? Like did he not work
- 31:38as hard? Did you feel like he was kind of like half ass in
- 31:41it? Like what would you say attributed overall? Like what are the things
- 31:45that attributed to the show being bad to you. No, it wasn't the
- 31:48show being bad, but it was nothing of the earlier. It was not
- 31:53about magic. I was him straying away from like what you really went to
- 31:59see him for what I've known him for. Yeah, show you feel like
- 32:04you kind of went to like a hokey kind of like like the show I
- 32:08just want to Uh, it could have been a literal impersonator. It could
- 32:15be like a play type thing. Anybody could Yeah. No, it could
- 32:17be an impersonator doing a tribute to David Copperfield. It could have been It
- 32:23could have been anybody doing that stuff, and I would have I would have
- 32:28took it the same way. I would have took it in the same way.
- 32:30But being that it was actually David Copperfield doing that. Uh. Like
- 32:35I said, I didn't enjoy it for what I expected it to be.
- 32:38Um, if I go back in there knowing it was just a regular ass
- 32:43show, I'd enjoy it. And the crazy thing. Bro, Like while
- 32:47you saying that me thinking about it from like a creative standpoint, I think
- 32:52about it like thing, Bro, he probably broke his Like he probably racked
- 32:55his brain to come up with that show, and he probably changed it from
- 33:01the show that you would have enjoyed, you get what I'm saying. Like
- 33:06him as a creative, he probably might have felt like he was in that
- 33:08rut of like, damn, I'm just still doing the same thing. Let
- 33:12me add you know, some different elements, let me do X, Y
- 33:14and Z than like somebody like you goes and sees him and you don't appreciate
- 33:19it from the point of view of like it didn't it didn't strike a nerve
- 33:22with you the right way, you know what I'm saying. And that's like
- 33:24such like a crazy thing, like as a person that creates things for people's
- 33:29like entertainment, you know what i mean. Just thinking about like you know
- 33:32how much stuff probably went into those changes and the stylistic changes that you went
- 33:37and saw that you don't you didn't appreciate, you know what I'm saying.
- 33:40And to think about the idea that if he's doing that show and he's been
- 33:44there that long, it probably works for the audience that's coming to see him.
- 33:49That's exactly what it is. Yeah, a bunch of tourists, international
- 33:52folk who just know the name, They don't know shit about him, you
- 33:58know, people who just get free tickets and something to do in Las Vegas
- 34:00while they're visiting. M Yeah, he's doing what you gotta do. But
- 34:07for someone who watched him as a count and appreciate his magic, that was
- 34:09a little different from me. That's when it was. It was about twenty
- 34:14sixteen, twenty seventeen. I was in Vegas and got free tickets. That's
- 34:17what it was. I definitely saw him and I kind of felt the same
- 34:21way you feel right now, and it was kind of the same show.
- 34:23Quincy. Yep, that's exactly what it was. That's exactly what it was.
- 34:28Free tickets. Yeah, that's crazy, y'all, but who've got free
- 34:32tickets to it? It's nuts, man. The thing is that that that's
- 34:39what I get at. Like you, you get to know somebody, you
- 34:43get to appreciate somebody, and just like just watching y'all as artists, we
- 34:47could be twenty years from now and I can see y'all do something and be
- 34:51like that, ain't down. That ain't down after all this shit I've seen
- 34:54and all this shit y'all have done before and said before like that ain't down,
- 35:00Like that's not who they was. I don't recognize that with anybody,
- 35:17m m m
