- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:17Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:20Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:23Speaker 1: a hater. We're going to talk about, shall we call
- 0:27Speaker 1: it an economic downturn of sorts in college football. I'll
- 0:30Speaker 1: tell you what I mean in a minute. But first,
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Chiefs. and the Eagles played a week two battle
- 0:39Speaker 1: in the game of the week slot, the late afternoon game, right?
- 0:45Speaker 1: I wonder sometimes when these things come up as they do,
- 0:48Speaker 1: what the network people are thinking about it. Because when
- 0:51Speaker 1: you put that sort of game in week one, like
- 0:53Speaker 1: the Thursday night game, it's kind of cool, right? Like
- 0:56Speaker 1: I think they shut out on this, but I remember
- 0:58Speaker 1: the last time that I could think of off the
- 0:59Speaker 1: top of my head where the week one game was
- 1:01Speaker 1: a rematch of the Superbowl. was the Panthers and the
- 1:04Speaker 1: Broncos to start 2016, right? It's like, oh man, they
- 1:07Speaker 1: just played, right? Like you get a crack and you
- 1:09Speaker 1: got like a certain level of excitement about it. But
- 1:12Speaker 1: the other part is when that happens, they're both 0-0, right?
- 1:17Speaker 1: You put this in week two. You get the possibility
- 1:20Speaker 1: of either both teams being 1-0 or at the very least,
- 1:26Speaker 1: one of those teams being 0-1. Highly unlikely that they
- 1:29Speaker 1: both be 0-1, but at least one of those teams
- 1:32Speaker 1: being 0-1. And we all know the damning doom and
- 1:35Speaker 1: gloom statistics about what happened to teams that start seasons
- 1:39Speaker 1: 0-2 in terms of them going to the playoffs or
- 1:41Speaker 1: going to the Super Bowl or anything else. Now, as
- 1:45Speaker 1: I recall... The goddamn Bengals have started a couple of
- 1:48Speaker 1: seasons 0-2 and managed to get their way into the playoffs.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And so that means anybody can do it. I don't
- 1:53Speaker 1: care if they got Joe Burrow or not. They still
- 1:55Speaker 1: got them ugly helmets. They still, they are who they are.
- 1:58Speaker 1: They still got the owner that used to make them
- 2:00Speaker 1: reuse jock straps in there. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 2:03Speaker 1: if they can do it, anybody can. They out here
- 2:06Speaker 1: itching like a motherfucker. Anyway, we now have 0-2 Chiefs.
- 2:13Speaker 2: All right?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Congratulations to the Eagles. They are 2-0. They did not
- 2:17Speaker 1: look great. I don't think that they look great in
- 2:20Speaker 1: either of the games that they played to start this season.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But they did not look great. But they're 2-0, which
- 2:25Speaker 1: means how they look becomes a much more secondary concern. Okay?
- 2:31Speaker 1: The Chiefs are 0-2. And you have to understand, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: maybe this is unfair of me to do this in
- 2:38Speaker 1: this way, but I want to make sure that I
- 2:40Speaker 1: get these numbers right. But, um, I know these two
- 2:44Speaker 1: games don't have anything to do with each other. There's
- 2:46Speaker 1: a great separation between the two. I don't want to
- 2:49Speaker 1: be too exaggerate. Um, but I'm just saying for me,
- 2:53Speaker 1: it is very difficult on the same day where I
- 2:55Speaker 1: thought saw Russell Wilson throw for 450 yards to watch
- 2:59Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes throw for a buck 87. Like that was
- 3:03Speaker 1: jarring Ryan. You know, we're both up here in New
- 3:05Speaker 1: York city. I don't know if you got an opportunity
- 3:07Speaker 1: to watch any of Russell Wilson, but, uh, apparently what
- 3:11Speaker 1: they have decided for that team or maybe just against
- 3:14Speaker 1: the Cowboys was, yeah, like it was a video game.
- 3:18Speaker 1: All I do is throw bombs.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah, four verts. Let's chuck it to Malik and see
- 3:25Speaker 3: what happens.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Every play. You know what happens? He runs by everybody, right?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Like the Cowboys, good for you guys. Glad you guys
- 3:32Speaker 1: got a win. But Russell Wilson, who we all thought
- 3:34Speaker 1: was washed, I would start calling that Cowboys defense if
- 3:37Speaker 1: they keep doing stuff like that, the fountain of youth.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Start calling them the time machine. Like all of a
- 3:41Speaker 1: sudden people get right back at it. They're like Epsom salts.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Russell Wilson got in the game. I was like, wow,
- 3:46Speaker 1: my knee hasn't felt this good in years.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Nate Tice talked about how Russell Wilson always wanted
- 3:51Speaker 3: to be president. And he was feeding his constituents, his
- 3:54Speaker 3: constituents being Malik.
- 3:56Speaker 2: He was.
- 3:57Speaker 1: By the way, he got himself into trouble because it
- 3:58Speaker 1: clearly became video game time and he's just like, I
- 4:00Speaker 1: just throw it deep, except Malik wasn't going deep that
- 4:02Speaker 1: time and he threw the interception. And then the game
- 4:05Speaker 1: went back the other way. But watching the Chiefs, Ryan
- 4:08Speaker 1: and I were texting during the game and he made
- 4:11Speaker 1: the best point. And I think I heard Tom Brady
- 4:12Speaker 1: also say the same thing or Kevin Burkhardt. I can't
- 4:15Speaker 1: remember which one of them in the broadcast. But the
- 4:18Speaker 1: point was, it all looks like work. Like the Chiefs,
- 4:23Speaker 1: it all looks like work that's not fun i almost
- 4:28Speaker 1: don't care about their record i care about us and
- 4:30Speaker 1: this is not fun.
- 4:31Speaker 3: It's not fun to watch it uh mahomes doesn't look
- 4:34Speaker 3: like he's having a good time he's handing it off
- 4:36Speaker 3: to a geriatric running back and it like you see
- 4:41Speaker 3: the offenses exploding all all over the league today you
- 4:44Speaker 3: know the bills put up 30 your lions put up
- 4:47Speaker 3: 50 and yes they did and mahomes and the chiefs
- 4:51Speaker 3: they look like they're playing a different sport and not
- 4:53Speaker 3: in a good.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Way Yo, so as a visual product, something I find
- 4:57Speaker 1: to be interesting about this, I'm going to ask you
- 4:58Speaker 1: to ride this out with me because I'm going to
- 5:00Speaker 1: get a little bit touchy-feely, a little.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You know those words that feel like they go somewhere
- 5:07Speaker 1: in a sentence, but you don't always know exactly what
- 5:10Speaker 1: they mean? I was about to put ethereal in there,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but I don't really know exactly what that means. But
- 5:17Speaker 1: neither here nor there. Okay, so me and my brother
- 5:21Speaker 1: and the homie Trey... Over here, hanging out the other day,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and we watched a YouTube video of a concert of
- 5:31Speaker 1: Prince in 1990. Now, over the course of the last,
- 5:36Speaker 1: call it a month or so, I have watched three
- 5:39Speaker 1: live Prince shows through streaming, all right? I promise you
- 5:44Speaker 1: it's going to make sense. First one is Prince Live
- 5:47Speaker 1: 1985 in Syracuse, which I think is the best live
- 5:50Speaker 1: concert I've ever seen documented on film. I recommend that
- 5:54Speaker 1: you go check it out. And that is Prince at
- 5:56Speaker 1: the absolute height of his powers. That's Michael Jordan in
- 5:59Speaker 1: 92 with LeBron James in 2012. Like, that is the
- 6:04Speaker 1: pinnacle of that rare generational talent, right? It was never
- 6:08Speaker 1: going to look like that ever again. And I noticed
- 6:11Speaker 1: that especially after watching the concert from Love Sexy Tour
- 6:15Speaker 1: in 1998, which is, I mean, 1988, which is just
- 6:19Speaker 1: three years after. And it's going great. but it ain't
- 6:23Speaker 1: the same, right? The homie Fink is still there playing
- 6:26Speaker 1: the keys, but it ain't the same band that it was.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, the vibes, he's still
- 6:32Speaker 1: as good as he ever was, right? But the vibes,
- 6:34Speaker 1: they're not the same, right? Then you fast forward to
- 6:37Speaker 1: this concert in Tokyo, 1990, on the Nude Tour. And again,
- 6:42Speaker 1: we're not that far removed from absolute peak of powers.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And the songs are still good. He's still capable of
- 6:49Speaker 1: doing all kinds of things. After we watched the concert
- 6:53Speaker 1: from 1990, me and my brother pulled up, we were
- 6:55Speaker 1: talking about the song 17 Days, hashtag IYKYK, right? And
- 6:59Speaker 1: I was like, yo, I got this, there's a dope
- 7:01Speaker 1: video of Prince playing 17 Days at the Forum in 2011.
- 7:07Speaker 1: So he pulled that up, right? 17 Days goes, first
- 7:12Speaker 1: of all, right? That was why I pulled that up,
- 7:14Speaker 1: because it's, man has so much heat, he was just
- 7:17Speaker 1: throwing super heat on the B-sides. But anyway, so... Watch
- 7:21Speaker 1: this eight-minute version of 17 Days. And it's excellent. It's
- 7:28Speaker 1: absolutely excellent. The band is excellent. He's playing some dope-ass
- 7:32Speaker 1: funk licks on the guitar. All of it goes. But
- 7:35Speaker 1: my brother stops and he looks at me and he
- 7:36Speaker 1: makes the point. He's like, the thing is, he's plenty good,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but the light ain't there. Like, the light in 85
- 7:48Speaker 1: just shone so bright, right? But that light ain't there,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and you watch in 2011, and the light ain't the
- 8:00Speaker 1: same when you watch it in 1990 versus when it
- 8:05Speaker 1: was bright as it had ever been in 1985, right?
- 8:11Speaker 1: This is kind of the evolution for us, I would say,
- 8:16Speaker 1: of the Patrick Mahomes experience. Now, it's a little different
- 8:19Speaker 1: with the Mahomes experience because it really took a couple
- 8:21Speaker 1: years for the pressure to really get to crack like that.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But Mahomes walked in the door, and the light was
- 8:27Speaker 1: blowing us away. It's the reason why people like me
- 8:29Speaker 1: say he's the best quarterback that we've ever seen, right?
- 8:34Speaker 1: You're not going to convince me that he got worse,
- 8:36Speaker 1: but you're going to look out there. The band, it
- 8:41Speaker 1: ain't really the same band, right? In this case, where
- 8:44Speaker 1: I say you still see Fink and the Scrubs, You
- 8:46Speaker 1: still see Travis Kelsey out there in the uniform, but
- 8:51Speaker 1: it ain't the same band. They don't ascend to the
- 8:55Speaker 1: same highs, and subsequently, they don't push Mahomes to rise
- 9:00Speaker 1: to those highs in the way that you saw it
- 9:04Speaker 1: happen before, right? And so, I don't think 0-2 means
- 9:10Speaker 1: that the Chiefs are somehow not going to make the playoffs.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I still think they will. I know they're going to
- 9:15Speaker 1: be in a very difficult division and all those things.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But I think that they're still going to get it cracking.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I think they're going to get some players back. I
- 9:23Speaker 1: think some stuff will happen. I don't think they're an
- 9:28Speaker 1: excellent team. but I think they'll be okay. But in
- 9:31Speaker 1: terms as this matters to most of us as fans,
- 9:34Speaker 1: is that even if the Chiefs weren't your squad, unless
- 9:37Speaker 1: you were in the AFC West, you had to marvel
- 9:40Speaker 1: at the light, right? Like you had to marvel at
- 9:43Speaker 1: what the shine is. Like right now, the light off
- 9:46Speaker 1: of Josh Allen is crazy, right? The Lamar Jackson light
- 9:51Speaker 1: still goes crazy. I don't know if they got better
- 9:56Speaker 1: than Mahomes. I don't know if they would be doing
- 9:58Speaker 1: much different under the same circumstances. as Mahomes. But I
- 10:02Speaker 1: know the light don't shine as bright. And man, that
- 10:05Speaker 1: is not nearly as much fun over here. Especially since
- 10:11Speaker 1: I like to watch football with my buddy Nick. Now
- 10:15Speaker 1: I didn't watch this game with him. I don't even
- 10:17Speaker 1: know if he was over there.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Right?
- 10:19Speaker 1: But If they don't get this light going.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Or get something figured out, man, that's going to interfere
- 10:25Speaker 5: with my whole experience.
- 10:26Speaker 1: It ain't pleasant when that happens. You feel me? You
- 10:29Speaker 1: see what I'm saying? But that's what stuck. Like when
- 10:33Speaker 1: Ryan said it all looked like work and felt like work,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I was like, damn, yeah, I think that is the characterization.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And I think that's what we get here. And by
- 10:40Speaker 1: the way, the Eagles, it doesn't quite look the same.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Their offense did not look great. That Chiefs defense that
- 10:46Speaker 1: did not look good against San Diego, they were looking
- 10:48Speaker 1: pretty damn good against the Eagles because the Eagles, it's
- 10:51Speaker 1: a little bit different over there too. But they seem
- 10:54Speaker 1: to be in that we just going to find a
- 10:56Speaker 1: way to win space. And that is what happens when
- 10:59Speaker 1: any short yardage comes up and you know you got it.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I just can't imagine how dispirited it is when they
- 11:06Speaker 1: decide to run the booty push. I just can't. What
- 11:11Speaker 1: are we supposed to do? I have no idea. I
- 11:14Speaker 1: do have this question. Ryan, I was curious if anybody
- 11:19Speaker 1: else had thought this thing I'm going to say, even
- 11:21Speaker 1: though it's unlikely anybody else did. Okay. So you know
- 11:26Speaker 1: how I started off looking for a team, and then
- 11:30Speaker 1: I found the Lions, and I like what the Lions
- 11:33Speaker 1: were doing. And then I watched them more and more.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And then I didn't fully realize that I had truly
- 11:38Speaker 1: become a fan because when they went to the NFC
- 11:40Speaker 1: championship game, I was just happy they got there. It
- 11:42Speaker 1: didn't really hit me that the space that I had
- 11:44Speaker 1: gotten into to a goddamn JMO threw that ball away.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Remember that dude that got caught gambling at the team
- 11:51Speaker 1: facility with big brain being put the ball in his
- 11:53Speaker 1: hand and let him make an important decision at an
- 11:55Speaker 1: important time. It's my fist balled up. Okay. Um, let
- 11:58Speaker 1: me let that go. Right. But it was in that
- 12:00Speaker 1: moment that I realized, damn, I'm really in on this. Right.
- 12:03Speaker 1: So the Chiefs got all these new fans. Swifties, right?
- 12:09Speaker 1: They came in because they Swifties, right? They rooting for
- 12:13Speaker 1: the Chiefs because they rooting for Travis because it goes
- 12:16Speaker 1: back to they queen. It all goes together, right? But
- 12:19Speaker 1: I imagine the farther and farther along that this has gone,
- 12:23Speaker 1: some of them truly got into the Chiefs. You know
- 12:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Like some of them truly got became
- 12:31Speaker 1: fans and they really want the Chiefs to win and
- 12:34Speaker 1: they're really invested. You think any of them started cussing
- 12:39Speaker 1: at Travis Kelsey when they saw him on the TV?
- 12:44Speaker 3: When he dropped the go-ahead touchdown?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Hell yeah, when he dropped that go-ahead pass. Like, look,
- 12:49Speaker 1: that's the thing about the Chiefs in this game. If
- 12:51Speaker 1: you really want to give them the benefit of the doubt,
- 12:53Speaker 1: this really turns on just a couple of things, right?
- 12:56Speaker 6: Right.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Like, Kelsey does not drop that pass. They're probably, or
- 13:00Speaker 1: let's just say, forget about doesn't drop. Let's give him
- 13:03Speaker 1: a catch, right? Because it's part of it if he doesn't,
- 13:05Speaker 1: how many drops and it doesn't get intercepted. But, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: but if he catches that pass, they score that touchdown there.
- 13:12Speaker 1: And it's probably Nip and Tuck all the way there, right?
- 13:15Speaker 1: They went from probably going up four to then going down, what,
- 13:19Speaker 1: 10 when the ball got back the other way, right?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Somebody had to be furious for Travis Kelsey at that point, right? Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 1: They're not Travis Kelsey fans. They're Taylor Swift fans, and
- 13:32Speaker 1: they became Chiefs fans forever. because of taylor swift but
- 13:36Speaker 1: then that still means he gotta do his part she
- 13:39Speaker 1: you think she's you think they want her to be
- 13:42Speaker 1: with a man that can't catch.
- 13:46Speaker 5: You know what i'm saying like the day might come
- 13:47Speaker 5: that she fall out of burning building or something like
- 13:49Speaker 5: that they're gonna need to know that he got hands
- 13:51Speaker 5: they're not happy with that somewhere there's a message board
- 13:54Speaker 5: on a dark web or something like that where the
- 13:56Speaker 5: real swifties are like hey man that motherfucker look old
- 14:02Speaker 5: There's somebody there that's feeling that way because Ryan, he
- 14:06Speaker 5: look old.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I mean, he is– I mean, we forget he's 35, 36,
- 14:12Speaker 3: and he looks like it out there. I mean, he
- 14:14Speaker 3: doesn't run the way he used to. And, you know,
- 14:17Speaker 3: when you start dropping balls at the goal line, obviously,
- 14:19Speaker 3: you know, you're not causing an interception. But he is
- 14:22Speaker 3: not making the plays that he's making. needs to make,
- 14:25Speaker 3: and as long as they're down their top two receivers,
- 14:28Speaker 3: that offense is going to keep looking like work.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Right, so the thing is, it's asking too much for
- 14:32Speaker 1: him to be dynamic.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Right.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But you do need him to be steady in the
- 14:38Speaker 1: face of what everything else is. I mean, their best
- 14:41Speaker 1: running threat in this game, without question, was Patrick Mahomes. Who,
- 14:45Speaker 1: by the way, I will note, I agreed with the
- 14:48Speaker 1: argument that him faking like he going out of bounds
- 14:50Speaker 1: and him hitting them cats with them shoulders was dirty poo.
- 14:52Speaker 1: But I don't know. He hit that, that, that, that, that, that,
- 14:56Speaker 1: that swole ass dude for the 49ers. What's his name? Mustafa.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He gave him that shoulder last year. And apparently this
- 15:03Speaker 1: is like his new thing. He gave somebody a shoulder
- 15:05Speaker 1: in this game too. Where I'm like, damn dog, you
- 15:07Speaker 1: don't even look like you lift weights.
- 15:10Speaker 3: You think he's trying to compensate for the dad bod?
- 15:13Speaker 1: Man, all I'm saying is this. In that case, it
- 15:16Speaker 1: ain't dad bod, it's dad strumpf. You know, like he just,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I'm not saying he don't lift weights. I just have
- 15:22Speaker 1: no reason to believe it. Like it looked like he
- 15:24Speaker 1: lift weights with Paul Pierce and Jokic. Right, I'm not
- 15:28Speaker 1: saying that they don't. I just don't, you know. You know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: like I always say, Jokic looked like he went to
- 15:34Speaker 1: the trainer With that picture of Tom Brady at the combine,
- 15:36Speaker 1: it was like.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Like one of these, yeah. This is my dream body.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Body goals, body goals right here. This is where they are.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But all right, so if the Chiefs.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Let's say the Chiefs are at this point. The Chiefs
- 15:49Speaker 1: are 0-2, all right? Let's say that they come out
- 15:55Speaker 1: of this weekend, because I think we got the Chargers
- 15:57Speaker 1: playing against the Texans on Monday night.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Chargers.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Chargers-Raiders.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Chargers Raiders.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Okay.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Oh, the Texans. Oh, and the Texas. It's a Monday
- 16:08Speaker 1: night doubleheader in the second week of the year. I
- 16:12Speaker 1: thought that when they didn't do the doubleheader on week one,
- 16:15Speaker 1: I was like, oh, cool. Somebody finally got wise. Apparently
- 16:20Speaker 1: I was wrong. I'll let you think I'm staying up
- 16:23Speaker 1: to watch the Raiders and the Chargers. this is preposterous
- 16:29Speaker 1: they think we can do anything and i'm just talking
- 16:31Speaker 1: about me they'll come back up highest overnight rating ever.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Yeah i mean someone will watch it may just might
- 16:37Speaker 3: not be uh us on the east.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Coast yeah but right let me ask you this right
- 16:43Speaker 1: um five catches for 27 yards for aj brown how
- 16:46Speaker 1: much longer do you think that this is going to
- 16:48Speaker 1: be sustainable.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I don't i mean after he got one target last
- 16:53Speaker 3: week i i um if there's one thing i know
- 16:56Speaker 3: about um receive outspoken wide receivers. It's that they do
- 17:01Speaker 3: not suddenly become less outspoken as they get older.
- 17:04Speaker 1: They threw for 101 yards in this game. My bad.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It can't be that. No, it, it, it, it cannot
- 17:17Speaker 1: be that. Like again, a chiefs team whose defense we
- 17:20Speaker 1: have questions about coming off of week one. And I
- 17:23Speaker 1: guess we'll see what it is. for the rest of
- 17:24Speaker 1: the year. But I think the Eagles were this close
- 17:28Speaker 1: to us having all this talk that I'm doing about
- 17:31Speaker 1: the Chiefs about them.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It was just there. But, yeah, no, no, no, no, no.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It ain't going to be so long that A.J. Brown
- 17:37Speaker 1: is going to be going for that. Devontae Smith, four
- 17:39Speaker 1: for 53 in this one. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 17:43Speaker 1: I'm just telling you right now, they're going to need
- 17:45Speaker 1: to tighten some things up for them. But at least
- 17:48Speaker 1: they ain't going to have no angry Swifties going at them.
- 17:56Speaker 1: All right, another NFL story that is interesting to watch
- 18:00Speaker 1: is that boy Mike McDaniel, the head coach of the
- 18:04Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins, he needs to watch out. And here's why
- 18:07Speaker 1: he needs to watch out. NFL teams typically like to
- 18:11Speaker 1: wait until a bye week before they fire their coaches,
- 18:14Speaker 1: all right? The Dolphins don't have a bye week until
- 18:20Speaker 1: week 12. Week 12, okay? That means there's a chance
- 18:29Speaker 1: that they can fire Mike McDaniels at any given time. Ryan,
- 18:33Speaker 1: do we have this sound to try to explain how
- 18:38Speaker 1: it is that his wide receivers need to start running
- 18:40Speaker 1: so fast?
- 18:40Speaker 3: We do not, but it is not. He is. The
- 18:44Speaker 3: team seems to be in almost open revolt. I mean,
- 18:46Speaker 3: you had Tyreek on Friday going at a reporter for,
- 18:51Speaker 3: you know, asking him about why he hasn't had, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 3: more than a 30 yard catch in over a year.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Him and Tua seem to genuinely hate each other. Mike
- 19:00Speaker 3: McDaniel looks miserable on the sidelines in a loss to
- 19:02Speaker 3: the Patriots, and it looks like he can go sideways
- 19:05Speaker 3: at any time.
- 19:06Speaker 1: All right, so look, Tyreek Hill is not as fast
- 19:08Speaker 1: as he used to be, right? But his quarterback stood
- 19:11Speaker 1: at the podium after the game and basically said that
- 19:14Speaker 1: he tells Jalen Waddell and Tyreek Hill, you know damn
- 19:18Speaker 1: well I can't throw the ball that far. So y'all
- 19:20Speaker 1: out here running 80 yards down the field, you know
- 19:23Speaker 1: I can't get that to you. Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho,
- 19:27Speaker 1: big dogs. Deontay Lee said, you don't need to be
- 19:29Speaker 1: this honest in front of people. But if your whole
- 19:33Speaker 1: game is being fast and running far and catching the
- 19:36Speaker 1: ball and you got a quarterback who can't do it,
- 19:40Speaker 1: although didn't Tyreek Hill say that Tua threw a better
- 19:46Speaker 1: ball than Patrick Mahomes? Didn't he do that? Yeah. I
- 19:51Speaker 1: bet they miss the hell out of each other, boy.
- 19:53Speaker 1: They like that commercial, that turn around every now and then.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You know that commercial right there? I bet you they
- 20:00Speaker 1: be thinking that about themselves. But anyway, I bring this
- 20:03Speaker 1: up about Mike McDaniel. I think he can get fired
- 20:06Speaker 1: at any time. Because if I'm learning anything from college football,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you really can get fired at any time. Like, look,
- 20:14Speaker 1: college football coaches have gotten fired early in seasons, but
- 20:18Speaker 1: it normally takes a lot. For example, the time that
- 20:23Speaker 1: Arkansas lost their first game of the season at home
- 20:26Speaker 1: to the Citadel in 1992, and they fired the coach
- 20:30Speaker 1: the same night. Right?
- 20:33Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:34Speaker 1: The same night you also have like the example of
- 20:39Speaker 1: when people was getting crooned ryan i think you're probably
- 20:42Speaker 1: too young to remember when people was out here getting crooned.
- 20:46Speaker 3: I remember that one yeah i remember yeah mississippi state sylvester.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Yes mississippi state hired sylvester crew the first black head
- 20:54Speaker 1: coach in the history of the southeastern conference and team
- 20:56Speaker 1: saying to have this Incredible coincidence of losing to Mississippi
- 21:00Speaker 1: State and then suddenly firing their coaches. The first one
- 21:04Speaker 1: of note was Ron Zook. And Jeremy Foley, the AD
- 21:08Speaker 1: at Florida, gave the all-time classic line, that which will
- 21:11Speaker 1: be done eventually must be done immediately. And he was right.
- 21:15Speaker 1: But Zook, for whatever it's worth, stuck around the rest
- 21:17Speaker 1: of the year. They hired Urban Meyer to win a
- 21:19Speaker 1: couple of national championships. All this stuff. Hey, man, Virginia
- 21:22Speaker 1: Tech lost to Old Dominion. which is an absolutely indefensible loss.
- 21:26Speaker 1: They fired their coach three weeks into the season. UCLA,
- 21:31Speaker 1: it's not just that they lost to New Mexico. They
- 21:35Speaker 1: lost to New Mexico, and it looked like 15 people
- 21:38Speaker 1: were at the game. And so Deshaun Foster's the head coach.
- 21:42Speaker 1: He just got fired, and it was never going to
- 21:45Speaker 1: go too well for him in the first place because...
- 21:49Speaker 1: they chip kelly moved on from that job in like
- 21:53Speaker 1: february of that year because he realized it was time
- 21:56Speaker 1: to get out ahead of the cavalry and i think
- 21:58Speaker 1: he just decided he didn't want to be a head
- 21:59Speaker 1: coach anymore he just wanted to call plays.
- 22:01Speaker 3: He left to be like i don't remember the i've
- 22:04Speaker 3: ever seen a head coach leave of their own volition
- 22:06Speaker 3: to be an oc.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Yes he just seems like that's how miserable he was
- 22:10Speaker 1: there yeah he didn't want to do that so then
- 22:12Speaker 1: you get the job late ucla as a program doesn't
- 22:15Speaker 1: have any money which certainly tells me that in terms
- 22:18Speaker 1: of getting players, they don't have any money, but they
- 22:21Speaker 1: didn't just lose to New Mexico. They got their asses
- 22:24Speaker 1: kicked by New Mexico, right? Like that was a, that was,
- 22:28Speaker 1: that's a job. That's a loss that gets you fired.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And Virginia coach, Virginia Tech lost to Old Dominion.
- 22:35Speaker 4: That's right.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It was Dabo that lost to Georgia Tech. My bad.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I almost got it mixed up. But anyway, they getting
- 22:41Speaker 1: them out of here faster than ever. Right now, one
- 22:43Speaker 1: thing about it is you get to coach out of there.
- 22:46Speaker 1: The transfer portal, if I'm not mistaken, opens up for
- 22:49Speaker 1: 30 days immediately after that. So teams are going to
- 22:52Speaker 1: try to stretch it out as long as they can.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But one of the fascinating things about college football to
- 22:58Speaker 1: me is that what is what is different for every
- 23:02Speaker 1: single team? What is tolerable? What is intolerable? All of
- 23:05Speaker 1: these things. None of it is the same for from
- 23:08Speaker 1: school to school. Right. Caleb DeBoer. Good job. Alabama beat
- 23:11Speaker 1: the Brakes. off of Wisconsin this week, doesn't matter, buddy.
- 23:15Speaker 1: You might as well have done that to Jacksonville State.
- 23:17Speaker 1: They got a different standard over there, right? Billy Napier
- 23:20Speaker 1: right now is lucky, coach at Florida, where he is,
- 23:24Speaker 1: I mean, he's under 500 going into year four of
- 23:27Speaker 1: this job, and that's not a job where you get
- 23:29Speaker 1: to have a losing record and typically, or have a
- 23:31Speaker 1: record like he does, and typically get this far. For me,
- 23:36Speaker 1: Charlie Strong is the great example of that, where I
- 23:38Speaker 1: thought he was handed that job in really bad time.
- 23:41Speaker 1: He got handed a bare cupboard, but no excuses are
- 23:44Speaker 1: ever going to allow you to have two straight losing
- 23:47Speaker 1: seasons at the University of Texas. It's not happening. You're
- 23:49Speaker 1: going to get fired, period.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Yeah, speaking of Florida, they still have to play Georgia, Texas, Miami,
- 23:57Speaker 3: and Florida State.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. For Napier, it's not if, but it's when. Right,
- 24:07Speaker 1: it's not going to get better. But think about this, right?
- 24:10Speaker 1: When I talk about how quirky it can be about
- 24:12Speaker 1: keeping your job and losing your job. They lost that
- 24:15Speaker 1: game to South Florida, right? After South Florida started the
- 24:18Speaker 1: season beating Boise State, they lost a close one to
- 24:22Speaker 1: South Florida, okay? South Florida was ranked number 18 going
- 24:27Speaker 1: into last week's game and then played Miami and got
- 24:29Speaker 1: their doors blown off. If South Florida had lost to Miami...
- 24:34Speaker 1: and then lost to Florida, I think Billy Napier gets fired. Instead...
- 24:40Speaker 1: Billy Napier simply took Florida to Death Valley at LSU
- 24:45Speaker 1: and lost by 10 points in a game with a
- 24:47Speaker 1: quarterback through five interceptions. And that is a survivable loss, right?
- 24:52Speaker 1: It's still LSU, right? People still think very, very highly
- 24:57Speaker 1: of them. That remained a survivable loss. And so he
- 25:01Speaker 1: could wind up keeping his job. I am still, though,
- 25:04Speaker 1: just simply blown away that the stakes of college football
- 25:07Speaker 1: have gotten so high. that Virginia Tech can't just ride
- 25:12Speaker 1: this out a little bit long. Like, with all due respect,
- 25:17Speaker 1: who do y'all think y'all are? I understand that Virginia
- 25:24Speaker 1: Tech has had a great deal of success a long
- 25:27Speaker 1: time ago.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:31Speaker 1: OK, they might as well be army at this point
- 25:33Speaker 1: for a horseman of the apocalypse. You know what I'm saying?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Like that was a long time ago, but that's what
- 25:37Speaker 1: this has become. UCLA, look, you wind up in this situation,
- 25:42Speaker 1: especially when people stop showing up to the games, especially
- 25:46Speaker 1: at a school that needs the money. When people stop
- 25:49Speaker 1: showing up to the games, you got to do that
- 25:50Speaker 1: if you're UCLA. I just don't see what this is
- 25:54Speaker 1: actually going to help. at this point. Like, do you
- 25:58Speaker 1: think now that they fired the coach, all of a
- 25:59Speaker 1: sudden these boys that could not beat, that could not
- 26:03Speaker 1: beat New Mexico, you think all of a sudden they're
- 26:06Speaker 1: going to become a Big Ten capable school? Because they
- 26:11Speaker 1: might not win a game. I'll run the rest of
- 26:13Speaker 1: this schedule by you. They got a game this week
- 26:16Speaker 1: at Northwestern. After that, home for Penn State, at Michigan State,
- 26:21Speaker 1: home for Maryland, at Indiana, home for Nebraska, at Ohio State,
- 26:26Speaker 1: home for Washington at USC. They might not win another game.
- 26:35Speaker 1: And I could be wrong, but I feel like if
- 26:37Speaker 1: all you're going to do is lose all your games,
- 26:39Speaker 1: you might as well keep the same loser that you
- 26:40Speaker 1: started with.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Right?
- 26:45Speaker 1: Like, it also gets to the next question. Ryan, you
- 26:47Speaker 1: tell me if I'm tripping here, but I'm sure that
- 26:49Speaker 1: man got a buyout in his contract. If y'all ain't
- 26:51Speaker 1: got no money, can y'all just be throwing it around willy-nilly?
- 26:55Speaker 3: I just... I don't know how you win in a
- 26:58Speaker 3: major conference at UCLA. I don't know. The interesting thing
- 27:03Speaker 3: about college football, what you said, is every school has
- 27:05Speaker 3: a different standard. Every school has to figure out who
- 27:08Speaker 3: you want to be. How is UCLA ever going to
- 27:10Speaker 3: compete with Oregon and Ohio State and Michigan and Nebraska?
- 27:16Speaker 1: You didn't even say USC.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I didn't even get to USC across the street.
- 27:21Speaker 1: My thing is they are going to regret it. this
- 27:24Speaker 1: decision to go to the big 10 so much. And
- 27:26Speaker 1: I understand, I guess they're not going to regret it
- 27:28Speaker 1: because it was the only option, right? Like this was
- 27:30Speaker 1: the decision that was required for survival. And as a university,
- 27:34Speaker 1: like on an academic level, being part of the big 10,
- 27:38Speaker 1: that's the conference that means something in terms of academic reputation, right?
- 27:41Speaker 1: I get that all the way, but you're just not
- 27:43Speaker 1: going to tell me that this is going to be
- 27:44Speaker 1: any fun for them. Like everything that's changing in college sports,
- 27:49Speaker 1: it's making it all less fun. fun. It's making it
- 27:53Speaker 1: a lot more serious. It's making it a lot more professional. Now,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I want to be very clear about this. I have
- 28:02Speaker 1: always been a proponent of paying the players. I am
- 28:05Speaker 1: glad that they are finally getting money that is in
- 28:07Speaker 1: line with the market wage that they swore to us
- 28:09Speaker 1: for decades that nobody would ever pay it, that the
- 28:12Speaker 1: market would never bear out, and that they weren't actually
- 28:14Speaker 1: worth any money. And we have obviously seen that they
- 28:16Speaker 1: are worth this money.
- 28:18Speaker 3: And it would run off all the fans who somehow
- 28:21Speaker 3: would stop watching on television.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Correct, correct, right? Every argument they gave is none of
- 28:26Speaker 1: them hold. The part that we didn't say loud enough,
- 28:30Speaker 1: and I do, I can say, I did say this
- 28:33Speaker 1: in spite of what my belief is that they should
- 28:34Speaker 1: get paid, right? This is not fun. This is not,
- 28:38Speaker 1: this isn't going to be. what we've wanted it to be, right?
- 28:41Speaker 1: We don't know who plays for anybody anymore. The stakes
- 28:44Speaker 1: for the coaches are so high. As you're firing coaches
- 28:47Speaker 1: and firing them in week three and all of this,
- 28:50Speaker 1: this conference realignment has gone in such a way that
- 28:53Speaker 1: the conferences barely make any sense. So you don't get
- 28:57Speaker 1: any really true sense of rivalry because you don't play
- 29:00Speaker 1: enough games against teams that matter to you or that
- 29:02Speaker 1: your friends went to or stuff like that. All of
- 29:05Speaker 1: this is thrown off in a way that is not...
- 29:11Speaker 1: for me. But I do wonder this. What's it going
- 29:15Speaker 1: to be if schools like these make these decisions at
- 29:18Speaker 1: these rates? And as I say all of this and
- 29:21Speaker 1: how it's all gotten so serious to everybody else, I
- 29:24Speaker 1: admit the more that I talk, I've basically talked myself
- 29:27Speaker 1: into calling for Billy Napier's job this week. I'm not
- 29:29Speaker 1: saying that I think, I mean, look, he's going to
- 29:31Speaker 1: get paid. One thing I need to be very clear about,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know, everybody's like, no, you don't need to call
- 29:36Speaker 1: for people's jobs, dot, dot, dot. Let me tell you something, man.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Every time I got fired from a job, the check stopped.
- 29:42Speaker 1: That ain't the case with these jokes. You know what
- 29:44Speaker 1: I'm saying?
- 29:44Speaker 3: Big boy jobs have big boy responsibilities.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Yeah, look, man, the problem with losing your job is
- 29:48Speaker 1: not losing your job, it's losing your check. If you
- 29:51Speaker 1: still got a check, I don't really understand what we
- 29:54Speaker 1: out here, well, your kids have to go through this.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Don't tell them then. You ever think about that? Little kid,
- 30:02Speaker 1: three years old. He's seven years old. The kids at
- 30:05Speaker 1: school are saying that his daddy got fired. Tell him
- 30:07Speaker 1: daddy's still getting paid. Daddy going to pull up to
- 30:09Speaker 1: school in a Rolls Royce. Ask him if they daddies
- 30:13Speaker 1: got Rolls Royces working 60 hours a week. Hell no,
- 30:16Speaker 1: I bet they don't. You know what I'm saying? But
- 30:20Speaker 1: this is what it is going to be. Mike McDaniel,
- 30:24Speaker 1: you better hope that Stephen Ross is not paying attention
- 30:27Speaker 1: to what is going on in college sports, because he
- 30:30Speaker 1: might mess around and get a bright idea. Football is back,

- 33:14Speaker 3: All right, let's get to some stories from around the weekend.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Terrence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez for a historic undisputed crown.
- 33:21Speaker 3: You won on a unanimous decision. He became 42-0 and
- 33:25Speaker 3: became the first mailbox in the four-belt era to be
- 33:27Speaker 3: undisputed champion three weight classes. Bo, were you surprised by
- 33:31Speaker 3: the result?
- 33:33Speaker 1: I was. I don't know if I was surprised by
- 33:36Speaker 1: the result. Yes, I was, because I felt like going
- 33:38Speaker 1: up that high in weight class, like going up that
- 33:40Speaker 1: high in weight as Crawford did, was a daunting task
- 33:44Speaker 1: for him to perform. But it was a clear victory
- 33:49Speaker 1: on top of that. I don't think anybody could have
- 33:52Speaker 1: fairly come away from that thinking that when it went
- 33:55Speaker 1: to the cards that Canelo had any chance once it
- 33:58Speaker 1: got that far. I want to ask this question, and
- 34:02Speaker 1: I'm going to ask it on behalf of I feel
- 34:06Speaker 1: like all of us. I don't even think that we
- 34:09Speaker 1: can split this up into different demographics. I think this
- 34:13Speaker 1: is an across the board feeling. What took so long?
- 34:15Speaker 1: And when I say what took so long, this is
- 34:18Speaker 1: what I mean. I know why I fell asleep on
- 34:21Speaker 1: my couch, but I don't remember what time I fell
- 34:24Speaker 1: asleep on my couch. But I remember I woke up
- 34:27Speaker 1: on my couch and it was somewhere around 1130, maybe
- 34:31Speaker 1: close to 12. And I look up and I see
- 34:35Speaker 1: some dude wearing garb patterned after the Mexican flag and
- 34:40Speaker 1: he was coming to the ring, but he wasn't no
- 34:43Speaker 1: Canelo Alvarez. And then after he gets to the ring,
- 34:48Speaker 1: it's some dude from Ireland who gets in the ring.
- 34:51Speaker 1: And I'm like, wait a minute. It's about to be midnight.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I was afraid that I had slept through the fight.
- 35:00Speaker 1: It's about to be midnight and it's the fight before
- 35:04Speaker 1: the fight. That fight did not start until one o'clock
- 35:08Speaker 1: in the morning Eastern time. It cannot, who voted for this?
- 35:15Speaker 3: If they want to fix boxing, there's many things they
- 35:18Speaker 3: can do and it seems like they're very, there are
- 35:21Speaker 3: clearly resources between the Saudis and Dana White trying to
- 35:24Speaker 3: fix it. The first thing they can do is start
- 35:27Speaker 3: these fights at a reasonable hour.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Yeah, not that late. Look, I'm willing to go like 11,
- 35:30Speaker 1: even 12. Like, I get it. You're having the fight
- 35:32Speaker 1: on the West Coast. Like, oh my God, I could
- 35:35Speaker 1: not believe that fight took so long. I will also
- 35:37Speaker 1: say it did feel a bit dystopian seeing Dana White
- 35:40Speaker 1: and that Saudi man sitting there front row watching. Like,
- 35:44Speaker 1: it was a lot going on. That was like, ugh,
- 35:46Speaker 1: like under the heading of I'm not sure this is
- 35:49Speaker 1: making things better. But let me tell you this. One
- 35:53Speaker 1: of the homies was down there in Vegas for that fight.
- 35:56Speaker 1: And he said it was as dead a fight weekend
- 36:00Speaker 1: as there had ever been. And this is the Mexican
- 36:03Speaker 1: Independence Day weekend fight that has been a sure shot
- 36:07Speaker 1: for the boxing industry and for Las Vegas as anything
- 36:10Speaker 1: has ever been. And he said that Vegas felt dead.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I am saying all that to say that sound like
- 36:16Speaker 1: a session is coming.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there's been a lot of stories about,
- 36:21Speaker 3: you know, The recent decline of Vegas and people with
- 36:24Speaker 3: the rise of gambling and the amount of private equity
- 36:28Speaker 3: that's trying to squeeze every dollar of every Vegas tourist
- 36:32Speaker 3: that people have become less and less interested in. It's
- 36:35Speaker 3: interesting that as Vegas is trying to become a big
- 36:38Speaker 3: event town, those things seem to be in conflict.
- 36:41Speaker 1: So I would say– and this is my thought. I
- 36:45Speaker 1: think that this speaks– Part of it is price stuff,
- 36:48Speaker 1: but I think it just speaks to an overall economy
- 36:50Speaker 1: level thing. And also foreign tourism, right? You're afraid the
- 36:55Speaker 1: ice gun comes sweeping these streets. That is a consideration.
- 36:59Speaker 1: But the Zoomers were making the argument that they were
- 37:03Speaker 1: the ones that was causing the drop off in Vegas
- 37:05Speaker 1: because they don't like it because it's inauthentic and da-da-da
- 37:07Speaker 1: and all of this stuff. But if you never went,
- 37:09Speaker 1: you aren't the reason for the fall off, right? I
- 37:12Speaker 1: would think that a... special event, but a regular special event, right?
- 37:19Speaker 1: Like a fight is different than Labor Day or just
- 37:22Speaker 1: a holiday weekend.
- 37:23Speaker 3: I would think that- Because the Super Bowl a couple
- 37:26Speaker 3: of years ago didn't feel dead.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Oh no, it wasn't dead at all. It was not
- 37:29Speaker 1: dead at all. But I would have thought that a
- 37:31Speaker 1: fight like this, it would have cracked no matter what.
- 37:33Speaker 1: And it's not. And like I say, that is, we
- 37:36Speaker 1: are getting lots of harbingers for this economy, including the
- 37:39Speaker 1: one that said that the economy in like the last
- 37:41Speaker 1: year actually created a million less jobs or something like that.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Then advertise.
- 37:48Speaker 3: All right, let's get to college football. We talked about
- 37:53Speaker 3: this earlier, but LSU beat Florida 20 to 10, forcing
- 37:57Speaker 3: five interceptions. However, Brian Kelly was not happy after the result.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Let's take a listen. I know you love these immediate
- 38:04Speaker 3: postgame sessions, but what are you seeing with your offense?
- 38:07Speaker 1: Stop. Really?
- 38:09Speaker 7: Is that the first question? We won the game 20
- 38:11Speaker 7: to 10. Try another question. What do you want me
- 38:14Speaker 7: to tell you? I just laid it out for you.
- 38:17Speaker 7: We played the game to win the game. We played
- 38:21Speaker 7: the game to win the game.
- 38:23Speaker 2: All right.
- 38:23Speaker 3: How about third down? What is going on with third down?
- 38:26Speaker 1: It's one game.
- 38:28Speaker 7: Last game, we were great on third down. You're micro.
- 38:32Speaker 7: You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. LSU won
- 38:36Speaker 7: the football game, won the game. I don't know what
- 38:39Speaker 7: you want from me. What do you want? You want
- 38:42Speaker 7: us to win 70 to nothing against Florida?
- 38:45Speaker 1: People don't like Brian Kelly. I.
- 38:49Speaker 3: As an LSU fan, I underestimated how much people did
- 38:51Speaker 3: not like Brian Kelly until he got there. And it
- 38:56Speaker 3: is worse to four years in than it was in
- 38:58Speaker 3: terms of people not liking him.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I knew it off the rip because I just paid
- 39:03Speaker 1: a lot of attention to the Notre Dame situation. And again,
- 39:07Speaker 1: one of the wildest things ever. he didn't bring a
- 39:11Speaker 1: single assistant with him from Notre Dame to LSU. Like,
- 39:15Speaker 1: that is.
- 39:15Speaker 3: That never happens.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Yeah, however that happens, that is crazy. However, I think
- 39:21Speaker 1: that everything that involves Brian Kelly doing something we don't
- 39:24Speaker 1: like is obviously colored by the fact that people don't
- 39:27Speaker 1: like him in the first place.
- 39:29Speaker 2: But in.
- 39:30Speaker 1: in this case, asking the third down questions with the
- 39:35Speaker 1: first question at the press conference, if your goal was
- 39:40Speaker 1: to get a thoughtful answer, was bad strategy. One could
- 39:45Speaker 1: even argue it was bad form. But if you were
- 39:47Speaker 1: trying to get Brian Kelly to engage you and give
- 39:50Speaker 1: you something illuminating about those struggles, that was not the
- 39:55Speaker 1: time to do it. The reporter also sent a tweet
- 39:57Speaker 1: after that said, maybe I shouldn't have asked off the gate,
- 40:02Speaker 1: out the gate, but it had to be asked or whatever,
- 40:06Speaker 1: which is absolutely you reporters centering yourself in this story here,
- 40:11Speaker 1: which is the kind of thing that makes people standing
- 40:14Speaker 1: at microphones talk crazy to you. Right? Like, I just,
- 40:18Speaker 1: I just, I just, there are fair questions to be asked.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Especially for someone like Brian Kelly, who's known to say
- 40:25Speaker 3: crazy things at these post-game references. This is correct.
- 40:27Speaker 1: This is correct, right? I think it is a fair
- 40:29Speaker 1: question to say that a team that won at home
- 40:34Speaker 1: by 10 points against a team that looks bad and
- 40:36Speaker 1: threw five interceptions. maybe you should have won by more
- 40:39Speaker 1: than 10 points, right? Like this is it. And also
- 40:42Speaker 1: the new penny shine is off of that Clemson win.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Now that Clemson has lost to Georgia tech. Okay. I
- 40:49Speaker 1: get all of those things, but I also acknowledge there
- 40:54Speaker 1: was a better way to go about doing that in
- 40:58Speaker 1: that moment, but nobody, nobody is going to weep for Brian.
- 41:03Speaker 3: All right, but let's have a little bit more fun. Um,
- 41:06Speaker 3: Calypse and Pharrell played a free show at the Vatican.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Star-studded lineup of artists, including Jennifer Hudson, Bam Bam, Joe Roll,
- 41:17Speaker 3: and John Legend. Bo, what were your thoughts when you
- 41:20Speaker 3: saw this news?
- 41:21Speaker 1: I had two thoughts on this. Number one, you can't
- 41:24Speaker 1: even go to the Holy Land of Europe without goddamn
- 41:31Speaker 1: Jelly Roll being there. Jelly Roll is everywhere. I can't, like.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Culturally ubiquitous in a way that I thought would never
- 41:39Speaker 3: be possible.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Yes, and I've never heard a Jelly Roll song. I
- 41:42Speaker 1: have seen Jelly... I mean, like, Jelly Roll songs I
- 41:45Speaker 1: have heard are not this incarnation of Jelly Roll, right? It's, like,
- 41:49Speaker 1: the more, like, hip-hop-ish. Although I don't even know what
- 41:54Speaker 1: Jelly Roll does right now. I've just seen Jelly Roll
- 41:56Speaker 1: tell everybody that Jesus loves them. And after that, Jelly
- 42:00Speaker 1: Roll is everywhere. Jelly Roll everywhere... I remember once I
- 42:05Speaker 1: was at the Super Bowl, not Super Bowl, All-Star Game
- 42:08Speaker 1: in New Orleans in 2014. And I did Dan Levitard's
- 42:12Speaker 1: radio show. After I'd done that, I come back and
- 42:16Speaker 1: I was saying something. I was like, so I went
- 42:18Speaker 1: to this event and I said who the sponsor of
- 42:20Speaker 1: the event was. And I said to Mike Ryan, I said,
- 42:25Speaker 1: and guess who was at the party? He was like,
- 42:26Speaker 1: I don't know. I was like, who's everywhere? And he goes,
- 42:29Speaker 1: Kevin Hart. I was like, Kevin Hart was at the party.
- 42:31Speaker 1: That was exactly who it was because in 2014, Kevin
- 42:34Speaker 1: Hart was everywhere. That's how Jelly Roll feel right now.
- 42:38Speaker 1: All that being said, I just can't. Booking clips at
- 42:44Speaker 1: the Vatican. I struggle with this. What is the set list?
- 42:49Speaker 1: What songs are they going to... Who vetted this?
- 42:52Speaker 3: I know the new Pope is from Chicago, but is
- 42:55Speaker 3: this the kind of music he listens to?
- 42:56Speaker 1: Yo, who clears this? I'm assuming they're going to have
- 43:00Speaker 1: to play edited mixes?
- 43:03Speaker 3: I just.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Who is this for?
- 43:08Speaker 1: That is a great question because the bill is all
- 43:11Speaker 1: over the place. Run through again, who's going to be there?
- 43:14Speaker 3: It was Pharrell, Jennifer Hudson, Jelly Roll, Quips and Teddy Swims.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Ah, Teddy Swims. I saw him on the New Year's
- 43:24Speaker 1: TV show one time. I know nothing about him.
- 43:28Speaker 3: I know nothing about him either. I think Post Malone...
- 43:31Speaker 3: Did Post Malone say no? Or was Post Malone... Talk
- 43:36Speaker 3: about someone who also seems to be everywhere.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Yo, Post Malone. I think I've talked about this on
- 43:43Speaker 1: this show. I want to know what the moment is
- 43:47Speaker 1: that you get you a white rapper, and then finally
- 43:50Speaker 1: somebody hands him that acoustic guitar, and it's like, why
- 43:56Speaker 1: don't you start being serious about your life, huh?
- 43:59Speaker 2: Right?
- 44:00Speaker 1: Like, it's time for you to, what did the Bible say?
- 44:03Speaker 1: It's time for you to put away childish things.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Come come come over here come over here son.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Over here and let's start playing some balance.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Yeah pull your fucking pants up and let's go get
- 44:19Speaker 1: this money uh.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Sports illustrated model brooks nader was seemed to be having
- 44:24Speaker 3: a great time at the u.s open he she was
- 44:26Speaker 3: dating both alcariz and sinner according to page six you
- 44:31Speaker 3: know they obviously faced off in the U.S. open file,
- 44:35Speaker 3: and were apparently dating the same woman.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Okay. I am very curious as to whether or not
- 44:42Speaker 1: they knew they were dating the same woman. Right? I
- 44:46Speaker 1: don't have the answer. That part would be interesting, but
- 44:51Speaker 1: I am also... I feel like... I wonder how much
- 44:57Speaker 1: she knows about Don King. Okay, so this is what
- 45:02Speaker 1: I mean. Don King had a rule about doing fights.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Always leave in the limo with the champ. Maybe that
- 45:17Speaker 1: was her play, right? Maybe that was her game. Is
- 45:20Speaker 1: it possible?
- 45:22Speaker 3: Look, you can't not leave with a champ if you're
- 45:24Speaker 3: dating both of them.
- 45:25Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. She always leaves.
- 45:27Speaker 1: She's like a fight promoter, right? Like she got, she
- 45:30Speaker 1: takes care of both sides. It's like real estate to her.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I wonder like, do they both, did they both leave
- 45:34Speaker 1: her tickets at the window? Right? Or did she at
- 45:37Speaker 1: least have the decency to be like, nah, I'm gonna
- 45:39Speaker 1: be busy that weekend. I can't just be in here.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Can you imagine if you looked up into your box
- 45:46Speaker 1: And you thought she was going to be there. You're like, huh,
- 45:48Speaker 1: I wonder what that's about. And then you happen to
- 45:50Speaker 1: look over into the other box and that's where she's at.
- 45:56Speaker 1: And then you win and she leave the other box
- 45:59Speaker 1: and come try to get next to you. And you
- 46:02Speaker 1: know damn well you're going to go for it.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Wow.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Props to her. Props to her. We need to get
- 46:11Speaker 1: a TV show with her and Jordan Hudson and find
- 46:13Speaker 1: out who else out here. Like, she out here, she
- 46:15Speaker 1: coiled a ray, and girls are players, too. She got
- 46:19Speaker 1: all the gang.
- 46:25Speaker 3: All right, we've opened up the voicemail line. You know,
- 46:28Speaker 3: people hitting us up with all sorts of things. Great responses,
- 46:32Speaker 3: as always. Here's our first one.
- 46:34Speaker 2: Hey, Beaumonti, this is Jimmy from Chicago. I just want
- 46:39Speaker 2: to say thank you, bro. I've been following you for
- 46:42Speaker 2: a long time. I just want to say thank you.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I cut hair in Chicago. And one of the talks
- 46:50Speaker 2: in my barbershop, one of the debates, is Scottie Pippen overrated.
- 46:59Speaker 2: And I just want to say thank you because it
- 47:01Speaker 2: seems like you're the only person that seems to have it.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I don't know why people have this misconception that this
- 47:10Speaker 2: dude is clutch, that I had a guy bet me
- 47:17Speaker 2: that Scotty averaged 20 points for his career. Easiest money
- 47:22Speaker 2: I ever made. Oh, let me take that back. I
- 47:25Speaker 2: had a dude bet me that Scotty scored more points
- 47:30Speaker 2: for his career than Dominique Williams. I can't make this
- 47:33Speaker 2: shit up, but why? I just want to say thank you.
- 47:36Speaker 2: I don't know what these people changed the narrative on
- 47:39Speaker 2: Scottie Pippen. As a defender, I'll say I'm grateful. But
- 47:45Speaker 2: overall player, come on, man. This dude was a choke artist. Supreme.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Anytime they need a big presence from him. 9 times
- 48:01Speaker 2: out of 10.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Y'all.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Cheeks, basically. Now, he's picking his reasons to this day
- 48:08Speaker 2: that I'm going to send Antonio Spurs there because of
- 48:11Speaker 2: game seven against the Pistons in the migraine. After that game,
- 48:16Speaker 2: I stopped rooting for the Bulls and stopped rooting for
- 48:18Speaker 2: the Spurs. Like I said, I just want to say
- 48:21Speaker 2: thank you, Bomani. I know the people at home when
- 48:24Speaker 2: they hear it, they know exactly who this is. And
- 48:29Speaker 2: I don't like no Chicago teams. And I'm from Chicago
- 48:32Speaker 2: born and raised. Take care.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Later.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I do have to say, though, right, ditching the
- 48:38Speaker 1: Bulls in 1990 to pick up the Spurs, like, it
- 48:42Speaker 1: just needed to wait one more year.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it just had to wait.
- 48:47Speaker 1: The bus was right down there. It was coming for you.
- 48:51Speaker 3: You know, selling your Apple stock.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:54Speaker 1: But no, man, that Scottie thing, man, it is. Only
- 48:58Speaker 1: people think Scottie is overrated or underrated. There's no room.
- 49:02Speaker 1: in between on that. It's the only two spaces that
- 49:05Speaker 1: you have. Scottie overrated or Scottie underrated. That is it.
- 49:08Speaker 1: That is. And barbershop, I think I told you, man,
- 49:11Speaker 1: when I moved to Miami, that's when I cut my
- 49:13Speaker 1: hair off because I was like, man, I can't get
- 49:15Speaker 1: involved with no new barbershop conversations yeah it's a re-bob.
- 49:19Speaker 3: Yeah you know you can only hear so many uh
- 49:22Speaker 3: your brain always space for so many takes yeah.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I tapped out i was tapped out i was like
- 49:25Speaker 1: especially now that i'm a quote-unquote somebody nah man i
- 49:28Speaker 1: had to uh i had to tap out on that entirely.
- 49:31Speaker 3: All right here's one of our listeners from uh international waters.
- 49:37Speaker 6: Hi, Mr. Balmari Jones. How are you doing, sir? It's
- 49:40Speaker 6: Emmanuel Cooley from London. Big fan of the podcast for
- 49:44Speaker 6: many years. I find your talks expensable, particularly in flight, fallout,
- 49:49Speaker 6: so on, from a boy who doesn't really understand or
- 49:52Speaker 6: doesn't have that in-depth knowledge.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Of American culture.
- 49:54Speaker 6: Just a real eye-opener to how things go on. Yeah,
- 49:58Speaker 6: so my question was, I often hear you refer to
- 50:02Speaker 6: someone being an Atlanta dude. I think it was Anthony
- 50:05Speaker 6: Edwards you described him that way. or your conversation with
- 50:08Speaker 6: Elle Duncan, I think you mentioned something being so Atlanta.
- 50:12Speaker 6: I'm just curious, what exactly is meant by that? My
- 50:16Speaker 6: only real understanding of it was once where I was
- 50:18Speaker 6: at a school trip with some kids from abroad, and
- 50:22Speaker 6: there was this one guy or one kid from Atlanta
- 50:25Speaker 6: who couldn't be an older, like nine, maybe 10. He
- 50:29Speaker 6: had the gumption to go up to a grown-ass woman
- 50:32Speaker 6: and essentially speak to her when most of us are
- 50:34Speaker 6: too scared to speak to girls our own age.
- 50:36Speaker 3: So I think I've got.
- 50:37Speaker 6: Early understanding of it, but I just really like your
- 50:40Speaker 6: description of what's meant by an Atlanta dude or something
- 50:43Speaker 6: we saw at Atlanta in a bit more detail. But
- 50:45Speaker 6: genuinely and truly, I just want to say thank you
- 50:47Speaker 6: for all the hard work you do and for being
- 50:50Speaker 6: so great.
- 50:52Speaker 1: First of all, thank you, my brother. I appreciate you.
- 50:55Speaker 1: And wow, I am trying to think of the ways
- 50:58Speaker 1: to explain this in terms that somebody from London would
- 51:01Speaker 1: fully understand. Okay. So the thing about Atlanta is at
- 51:05Speaker 1: least at this point in America, there is no city
- 51:09Speaker 1: that at its median is now more culturally black than
- 51:16Speaker 1: Atlanta is.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Like, like it, it's, it's nothing else. I can't. So
- 51:22Speaker 1: that is a part of it.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Is a, and then it comes to the question, well,
- 51:26Speaker 1: what does it mean to be culturally black? Look, man,
- 51:28Speaker 1: that's this, I ain't got words for everything.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:31Speaker 1: But specifically with Anthony Edwards, it is the specific accent
- 51:35Speaker 1: with which he speaks. It is his diction, like the
- 51:39Speaker 1: specific words that he chooses at various points. It is
- 51:43Speaker 1: a certain air of I always say the thing about
- 51:46Speaker 1: Atlanta dudes like him. is that you can tell that
- 51:49Speaker 1: there's an air of an awareness of a larger world,
- 51:53Speaker 1: even if there's not quite a familiarity with it. But
- 51:57Speaker 1: with him, it is the outright confidence that I never
- 52:00Speaker 1: have to edit this. I never have to change this.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Because that's one thing about it. If you're really an
- 52:05Speaker 1: Atlanta dude and you're always around it, you don't really
- 52:08Speaker 1: have to change how you kick it very much. There's
- 52:10Speaker 1: an understanding that there's just a bunch of y'all who
- 52:12Speaker 1: kick it like this. Anthony Edwards has taken that with
- 52:15Speaker 1: him to Minnesota. But if I took you to Atlanta
- 52:18Speaker 1: and let you hang out for a day and a half,
- 52:20Speaker 1: you would understand what I was talking about. Putting it
- 52:22Speaker 1: into words, more difficult than I realized it would be
- 52:25Speaker 1: until you asked.
- 52:26Speaker 3: I would recommend if you want to understand what it
- 52:29Speaker 3: means to be so Atlanta, I would say go listen
- 52:31Speaker 3: to clips from Cam Newton's podcast.
- 52:33Speaker 1: That helps. That's a start.
- 52:36Speaker 3: If I was putting together a syllabus, that's where I
- 52:39Speaker 3: would start. All right, Bo, here's our last one.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Hey, Ramani, my question is, have you ever had a
- 52:45Speaker 4: homie who didn't have good hygiene or his homegirl didn't
- 52:49Speaker 4: have good hygiene? I remember one of my homies.
- 52:53Speaker 2: Girl, well, before they was even dating, he.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Knew that she had bad hygiene. And then they got together.
- 53:01Speaker 4: My first question was like, hey, has her hygiene changed?
- 53:04Speaker 4: And he was like, yeah, she good. And then she
- 53:07Speaker 4: came over to the house one time, and she smelled terrible.
- 53:13Speaker 4: And I tried to tell my homie, hey, bro, you
- 53:15Speaker 4: need to tell your girl about her hygiene. And he said,
- 53:18Speaker 4: ain't nothing wrong with it. So this man was in denial.
- 53:23Speaker 4: Has it ever happened to you? It's Cordae from the Bay.
- 53:28Speaker 4: All right.
- 53:28Speaker 1: So I used to have a homie that was a
- 53:30Speaker 1: little bit musty. And one time, me and my best
- 53:33Speaker 1: friend went to kick it with this other homie. And
- 53:36Speaker 1: we was about to roll out. And he was like, yo,
- 53:39Speaker 1: I was going to take a shower. But I ain't musty,
- 53:42Speaker 1: so be cool. And then he walked out. They're my
- 53:44Speaker 1: best friend. And anybody who knows Will knows exactly how
- 53:48Speaker 1: he sounded. He was like, bro, I don't know what
- 53:50Speaker 1: your boy is talking about because he is rank. And
- 53:54Speaker 1: he was. He was rank. The thing is, brother, that's
- 53:57Speaker 1: when I was like 15 or 16. I ain't kicking
- 54:02Speaker 1: it with nobody musty in a musty.
- 54:04Speaker 4: No.
- 54:05Speaker 7: No.
- 54:05Speaker 4: No.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Unfortunately, brother, I don't have any advice for you other
- 54:13Speaker 1: than evaluate things. Lots of them. All of them. Yeah. Hey, man,
