- Lucas: Välkommen tillbaka, allihopa. Du lyssnar på Learn Swedish with Fexingo. Today we're off to a hardware store. Luna: Ooh, a hardware store. That's new. I've been to a bunch of stores with you, Lucas, but never a hardware store. Lucas: Right? We've bought clothes, food, electronics... but sometimes you need to fix something around the house. So today, we'll learn how to ask for tools. Luna: Tools. Okay. I think I know the Swedish for a few of them. Let me guess — hammer is... hammare? Lucas: Exactly right! En hammare. Like in English, but with a soft 'e' at the end. Hammare. Say it with me. Luna: Hammare. Hammare. That's good. Lucas: So if you want to buy a hammer, you say: Jag skulle vilja ha en hammare. Let's break it down. Jag skulle vilja ha — I would like to have. En hammare — a hammer. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en hammare. That's a mouthful but I remember the pattern from our shopping episodes. Lucas: Exactly. You can use that same start with anything. Now let's try another tool: a screwdriver. En skruvmejsel. Luna: Skruvmejsel? That's a long one. Skruv... mejsel. Lucas: You got it. Skruv- as in screw, and mejsel like chisel. Put them together: skruvmejsel. So to ask: Har ni en skruvmejsel? Do you have a screwdriver? Luna: Har ni en skruvmejsel? I can say that. But what if I want a specific kind? Like a Phillips head? Lucas: Good question. You can add stjärnmejsel for Phillips or plattmejsel for flathead. But for today, let's stick with the basics. Next up, a drill. En borr. But if you want 'this drill,' you say den här borren. Luna: Den här borren. So to ask 'How much is this drill?': Hur mycket kostar den här borren? Lucas: Perfect. Hur mycket kostar den här borren? That covers a lot of shopping. Luna: And if I decide to buy a toolbox? That's verktygslåda, right? I think I saw that in my phrasebook. Lucas: Yes! En verktygslåda. Toolbox. To say 'I'll take this toolbox': Jag tar den här verktygslådan. Luna: Jag tar den här verktygslådan. That's a nice long sentence for me to practice. Lucas: Let's run through all four quickly. I'll say the Swedish, you repeat. Lucas: Jag skulle vilja ha en hammare. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en hammare. Lucas: Har ni en skruvmejsel? Luna: Har ni en skruvmejsel? Lucas: Hur mycket kostar den här borren? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här borren? Lucas: Jag tar den här verktygslådan. Luna: Jag tar den här verktygslådan. That feels good. Lucas: Now imagine you walk into a hardware store. What's the first thing you'd say? Luna: Probably 'Hej' and then 'Jag skulle vilja ha en hammare.' Lucas: Exactly. And the clerk might respond: 'Självklart. Här är en hammare.' Luna: Självklart. That's 'of course.' I learned that in a earlier episode. Lucas: You're right. And if they show you the price, you can ask: 'Hur mycket kostar den här borren?' Luna: Okay, let's role-play. You be the clerk. I'm the customer. Lucas: Alright. Hej! Välkommen till järnaffären. Luna: Hej! Lucas: Borren kostar 800 kronor. Luna: Oj, det var lite mycket. Jag tar bara hammaren och skruvmejseln. Och den här verktygslådan. Lucas: Utmärkt val. Har du allt du behöver? Luna: Ja, tack. That was fun. I used all four phrases. Lucas: You did. And notice you also used 'stjärnmejsel' — that's a bonus phrase. So now you have some new vocabulary for the hardware store. Luna: Speaking of vocabulary, if you're enjoying learning Swedish with us, you might want to support the show. We're able to keep this podcast ad-free thanks to listeners who buy us a coffee. Lucas: Yeah, it's a small way to help. If Fexingo has been helpful for your Swedish, you can go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. No pressure, but it really keeps us going. Luna: And thank you to those who already have. Now, let's practice our hardware phrases one more time before we wrap up. Lucas: Great idea. I'll say the English, you say the Swedish. Lucas: I would like to have a hammer. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en hammare. Lucas: Do you have a screwdriver? Luna: Har ni en skruvmejsel? Lucas: How much is this drill? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här borren? Lucas: I'll take this toolbox. Luna: Jag tar den här verktygslådan. Lucas: Excellent. Try using those next time you're at a hardware store in Sweden. Tack för att du lyssnade. See you next time! Luna: Hej då och fortsätt öva! Bye!
