- 0:00The play of the gunas in the external nature explains the
- 0:04various reactions, moods and psychological states we
- 0:09experience. This is true not just in the
- 0:13ordinary life of the individual and society, but also for those
- 0:18who take up the practice of yoga.
- 0:21The patterns of reaction based in the action of the gunas are
- 0:24well known. When rajas is predominant, there
- 0:28is an uprising of ambition, desire and pressure to achieve a
- 0:33specific result. When rajas becomes frustrated,
- 0:37we're simply tires of the effort.
- 0:40The individual generally falls back into Thomas with the
- 0:44consequent fatigue, weakness, darkness, and the psychological
- 0:49responses of depression. We're at least a deep malaise
- 0:54and the confusion that results from stymied ambition.
- 0:58When SAPWA arises, it leads to a period of light and harmony,
- 1:04during which time both ambition and the reaction to failed
- 1:08ambition are held at Bay. The issue with SAPWA is that,
- 1:13like the other Gunas, it is not a permanent station of the
- 1:16consciousness. Rather, it goes through its own
- 1:20periods of predominance and recession as either rajas or
- 1:24tamas rises again to continue this cycle.
- 1:28Sapwa can also become somewhat arrogant in its knowledge and
- 1:33thus may limit its ability to grow and develop flexibly.
- 1:38The solution then seems to be the ability to separate oneself
- 1:42from the nature, mind, life and body, to shift to the
- 1:46consciousness of the witness of the nature, and to interact from
- 1:50that standpoint. Based on a direct connection to
- 1:54the Divine consciousness. Many people confuse the
- 1:58development of a calm status of the being with mental calm.
- 2:02Srioro Bindo takes this further by clarifying that there is not
- 2:07just a need for mental calm but also for a vital nature and
- 2:11physical body that can support the action of the Divine Force
- 2:16through their own experience of peace, wideness and stability.
- 2:23Srioro Bindo observes quote the depression and vital struggle
- 2:28must have been due to some defective over eagerness and
- 2:32straining for a result in your former effort, so that when a
- 2:36fall in the consciousness came, it was a distressed,
- 2:40disappointed and confused vital that came to the surface giving
- 2:45full entry to the suggestions of doubt, despair and inertia from
- 2:50the adverse side of the nature. You have to move towards a firm
- 2:55basis of calm and equality in the vital and physical no less
- 3:00than in the mental consciousness.
- 3:02Let there be the full downflow of power and ananda but into a
- 3:08firm attar capable of containing it.
- 3:12It is complete equality that gives that capacity and
- 3:16firmness. End Quote reference Trioral
