- 0:12Hello, friends. It's shown here.
- 0:15It is Monday. It is the 11th, the 11th of
- 0:19March. And you have tapped on play.
- 0:22Hello. Thank you for inviting me into
- 0:24your day. Gee, I hope you're doing well.
- 0:26Me. How am I doing?
- 0:28Next question. Thanks.
- 0:30Let's just say I cannot recommend having middle ear
- 0:34surgery. I'm.
- 0:36I'm assuming that the results will be good but for I am
- 0:40feeling rotten as there's nothing like having your middle
- 0:43ears tampered with to make you feel dizzy and nauseous and
- 0:46exhausted and completely deaf. But that will all pass in the
- 0:51coming days. I'm hoping really soon and then
- 0:53I'll begin to feel much better. But until then boy I'm trying to
- 0:59be perky Sean. But yeah I'm not quite going to
- 1:03be at peak Sean but that's OK because it's not about me.
- 1:05Thankfully this is about God's word and we get to dive back
- 1:11into Mark. I didn't realise, but as I
- 1:13looked at our reading list ahead, it's only three weeks
- 1:16till Easter. Wow, that is not far at all.
- 1:19So for the next three weeks we are going to be working through
- 1:22the entire life and ministry of Jesus until that epic weekend
- 1:28with his death and resurrection. Wow, that is all to come.
- 1:34So why don't we just dive straight in, shall we?
- 1:37Let us read together. Mark Chapter 3
- 1:52Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a man with a
- 1:56deformed hand. Since it was the Sabbath, Jesus
- 1:59enemies watched him closely. If he healed the man's hand,
- 2:03they planned to accuse him of working on the Sabbath.
- 2:07Jesus said to the man with the deformed hand.
- 2:09Come and stand in front of everyone.
- 2:13Then he turned to his critics and asked, Does the law permit
- 2:16good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil?
- 2:21Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?
- 2:24But they wouldn't answer him. He looked around at them angrily
- 2:29and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts.
- 2:32Then he said to the man, Hold out your hand.
- 2:36So the man held out his hand and it was restored.
- 2:40At once the Pharisees went away and met with the supporters of
- 2:43Herod to plot how to kill Jesus. Jesus went out to the lake with
- 2:49his disciples and a large crowd followed him.
- 2:53They came from all over Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, from
- 2:59east of the Jordan River, and even from as far north as Tyre
- 3:03and Sidon. The news about his miracles had
- 3:05spread far and wide, and vast numbers of people came to see
- 3:09him. Jesus instructed his disciples
- 3:12to have a boat ready so the crowd would not crush him.
- 3:16He had healed many people that day, so all the sick people
- 3:20eagerly pushed forward to touch him.
- 3:22And whenever those possessed by evil spirits caught sight of
- 3:25him, the spirits would throw them on the ground in front of
- 3:28him, shrieking. You are the Son of God, but
- 3:32Jesus sternly commanded the spirits not to reveal who he
- 3:36was. Afterward, Jesus went up on a
- 3:40mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him, and
- 3:44they came to him. Then he appointed 12 of them,
- 3:48and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and
- 3:53he would send them out to preach, giving them authority to
- 3:55cast out demons. These are the 12 He chose Simon,
- 4:01whom he named Peter, James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, but
- 4:05Jesus nicknamed them sons of Thunder.
- 4:09Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas James, son of
- 4:16Alphaeus. Thaddaeus, Simon Liselot, Judas
- 4:21Iscariot, who later betrayed him.
- 4:26One time Jesus entered the house and the crowds began to gather
- 4:29again. Soon, he and his disciples
- 4:32couldn't even find time to eat. When his family heard what was
- 4:36happening, they tried to take him away.
- 4:38He's out of his mind, they said. But the teachers of religious
- 4:42law who had arrived from Jerusalem said he's possessed by
- 4:46Satan, the Prince of demons. That's where he gets the power
- 4:49to cast out demons. Jesus called them over and
- 4:54responded with an illustration. How can Satan cast out Satan?
- 4:59He asked. A Kingdom divided by civil war
- 5:03will collapse. Similarly, a family splintered
- 5:07by feuding will fall apart. And if Satan is divided and
- 5:11fights against himself, how can he stand?
- 5:14He would never survive. Let me illustrate this further.
- 5:18Who was powerful enough to enter the House of a strong man and
- 5:21plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger,
- 5:24someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.
- 5:28I tell you the truth, all sin and blasphemy can be forgiven,
- 5:33but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be
- 5:37forgiven. This is a sin with eternal
- 5:40consequences. He told them this because they
- 5:44were saying he's possessed by an evil spirit.
- 5:48Then Jesus's mother and brothers came to see him.
- 5:52They stood outside and sent word for him to come out and talk
- 5:55with them. There was a crowd sitting around
- 5:57Jesus and someone said your mother and your brothers are
- 6:00outside asking for you. Jesus replied.
- 6:04Who is my mother? Who are my brothers then?
- 6:08He looked at those around him and said, look, these are my
- 6:12mother and brothers. Anyone who does God's will is my
- 6:17brother and sister and mother Jesus.
- 6:30You do show us a new way. You know, we spend so much of
- 6:35our time creating barriers to identify those who we can
- 6:40identify with and to separate us from those we wish not to
- 6:44identify with. But here you are, just throwing
- 6:48open wide the gates and saying anyone, anyone who does God's
- 6:53will is part of your family. Thank you that you teach us to
- 6:59throw open our hearts and to include, to invite in to love
- 7:06and to identify with so that there will be no others but only
- 7:10us. Lord, expand our heart to
- 7:14include and to love as you do, and transform us so that we too
- 7:23can do the will of our Father, our Heavenly Father, and be a
- 7:27part of your family. Our amazement in you is unending
- 7:33now. We love you and we worship you,
- 7:36and it's in Your name we pray. Jesus, oh man.
