- 0:00Carmen Lezeth: Hi everyone, welcome to All About the Joy.
- 0:02Carmen Lezeth: Tony will be here in a second.
- 0:04Carmen Lezeth: He just stepped away from the computer for a moment and yeah, so Chris Gales and I had a conversation going back and forth about him wanting to come back on the show.
- 0:13Carmen Lezeth: So I knew today that he may or may not be able to make it.
- 0:17Carmen Lezeth: So he just texted me and he's stuck on Beale Street, which means he's playing.
- 0:21Carmen Lezeth: He's still playing.
- 0:22Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean?
- 0:23Carmen Lezeth: I'm like do your thing, my brother.
- 0:25Carmen Lezeth: So hey, tony.
- 0:27Tony D.: Hi, so I don't know how y'all doing.
- 0:28Tony D.: I'm not at home.
- 0:29Carmen Lezeth: So glad to see you.
- 0:31Carmen Lezeth: Oh, I guess I should put the chat on, not that I think anyone want to come and chat with us, but how you guys been.
- 0:37Carmen Lezeth: Rick, let's start with Tony, because he's kind of like the one-time guest.
- 0:42Carmen Lezeth: How you doing with your peach snobs and everything.
- 0:45Tony D.: How's that hanging out, that drinking?
- 0:47Tony D.: I have golden apple.
- 0:48Tony D.: Thank you very much.
- 0:50Carmen Lezeth: Golden apple right, whiskey right Wink wink.
- 0:53Tony D.: Yes, ok, wink, wink.
- 0:56Carmen Lezeth: You like the flavored whiskies.
- 0:58Tony D.: It's so funny what I wanted to do was get what was new and try it at least once.
- 1:02Tony D.: So that was the whole thing when I was doing the thing with the crown peach.
- 1:06Tony D.: It was a new flavor.
- 1:07Tony D.: It's pretty much the newest thing out there that was affordable, oh.
- 1:13Ted Hicks: Oh my god.
- 1:15Carmen Lezeth: Hey Brian.
- 1:16Rick Costa: He's moving on slow motion.
- 1:17Rick Costa: When is this, or notches?
- 1:20Carmen Lezeth: When is this when is notches, Nice to see you.
- 1:22Carmen Lezeth: Thanks for coming on.
- 1:23Carmen Lezeth: I invited Ted and JoJo, I invited everybody Cynthia, Andrea because I thought we might want to say goodbye to 2023 as the family we've become.
- 1:35Brian M.: Just kidding.
- 1:35Brian M.: Yeah, I was rushing because eating dinner, but I'm also smoking some chicken thighs for work tomorrow, along with the brisket that I'm taking to work tomorrow.
- 1:45Carmen Lezeth: Wait, are you guys having a party or something?
- 1:48Brian M.: It's kind of like a post-Christmas, pre-new Year party, nice, a lunch party.
- 1:53Carmen Lezeth: That's something you got in your back pocket that I like, the cooking thing, that's a good thing.
- 1:58Tony D.: Yeah, he does, brian, because, like crazy, he's a little bit ridiculous with it.
- 2:01Tony D.: I ain't mad at him, he's a bit ridiculous man.
- 2:03Carmen Lezeth: He's mad at him because he ain't bringing it to your house, because you live too far away.
- 2:07Rick Costa: He's a bit ridiculous.
- 2:08Tony D.: He's real ridiculous.
- 2:09Tony D.: We can talk about where we can meet at, it ain't even a problem.
- 2:11Tony D.: We just haven't done it yet, oh, ok, ok.
- 2:14Tony D.: I did I was talking about.
- 2:16Brian M.: I told him, like if we meet up for steaks, if he brings A1 out, we're fine.
- 2:19Rick Costa: I was just going to say that.
- 2:19Rick Costa: I was just going to say that.
- 2:21Carmen Lezeth: Wait, wait, wait.
- 2:21Carmen Lezeth: What happened with Tron with A1?
- 2:23Carmen Lezeth: Because he likes to put ketchup on stuff.
- 2:25Tony D.: He said if you cook a steak properly, you should have the season.
- 2:27Tony D.: So I'm going to bring A1 and Hines 57.
- 2:28Carmen Lezeth: You cannot put A1 on steak you shouldn't have been A1 on steak.
- 2:32Carmen Lezeth: I'll beg your pardon, brian, do you put A1 on steak?
- 2:35Brian M.: How dare you insult me?
- 2:36Carmen Lezeth: OK, I just want to make sure we're on the same page.
- 2:38Carmen Lezeth: Like I'm not crazy.
- 2:39Carmen Lezeth: Dare you insult me I would rather that you put ketchup on a steak than A1.
- 2:44Tony D.: You know what I mean.
- 2:45Carmen Lezeth: Because at least you bring it back.
- 2:46Carmen Lezeth: That's worse, no no, no, no, no, no, brian, I would never.
- 2:49Carmen Lezeth: First of all, I eat the steak the way in which the chef cooks it.
- 2:54Carmen Lezeth: I'm not even one of those people who's like medium rare, medium well, I'm like however the chef wants it.
- 2:58Carmen Lezeth: That's how I'm going to eat it, right, because I trust the chef.
- 3:01Carmen Lezeth: Usually medium rare, but whatever.
- 3:03Ted Hicks: But I'm just saying if you're going to put A1 on it.
- 3:07Carmen Lezeth: I'd rather that you just go old school back in the day and grab your ketchup and keep it real.
- 3:13Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 3:14Tony D.: Well done.
- 3:16Carmen Lezeth: A1 is like pretend fancy.
- 3:17Carmen Lezeth: It's like that mustard, diesel mustard.
- 3:21Carmen Lezeth: You know that.
- 3:22Tony D.: It's like fancy Wow.
- 3:24Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, it's like trying too hard, but yeah.
- 3:27Tony D.: Well, I taste it before I season it, and most places I go to I won't have too anymore.
- 3:32Tony D.: When I was a kid I used to just put it on, no problem.
- 3:34Carmen Lezeth: If Brian cooked you a steak, you would put A1 on it.
- 3:38Tony D.: No, I would taste it first.
- 3:38Tony D.: Honestly, I would taste it first.
- 3:39Tony D.: He would taste it first.
- 3:41Tony D.: I would taste it first.
- 3:42Tony D.: Look at his face.
- 3:43Rick Costa: Look at his face.
- 3:43Rick Costa: Brian would slam into the ground if he tried to put A1 on it.
- 3:46Rick Costa: I would Look at that.
- 3:48Rick Costa: Look at that, try me, you're smelling me If you're going to put A1 on your hands on anything, get a hamburger Exactly.
- 3:55Tony D.: You're a part of it.
- 3:57Carmen Lezeth: Exactly, you don't put it on a delicious steak, I will put lourries on your steak, ok, oh.
- 4:03Brian M.: God.
- 4:03Carmen Lezeth: Oh God Wow.
- 4:06Brian M.: The distrust.
- 4:07Carmen Lezeth: That, yeah, it's terrible.
- 4:09Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia said A1, if it's well done because it needs flavor, what?
- 4:13Carmen Lezeth: Oh my goodness God we're so showing our ghetto roots tonight.
- 4:18Tony D.: Oh yeah, you know, we need plenty.
- 4:21Carmen Lezeth: Wow, that's the way to go.
- 4:24Tony D.: Salt and pepper and ketchup makes it worse.
- 4:26Carmen Lezeth: OK, here's the thing.
- 4:27Carmen Lezeth: It depends on who's cooking it and what the quality of the steak is.
- 4:30Carmen Lezeth: That's what matters.
- 4:32Carmen Lezeth: Where's your Brian?
- 4:32Carmen Lezeth: Ok, wait Brian.
- 4:34Carmen Lezeth: What are you?
- 4:34Carmen Lezeth: Am I wrong?
- 4:37Rick Costa: Brian's a huge foodie.
- 4:37Rick Costa: One second, oh God, I need a drink for this.
- 4:40Tony D.: I'm about to get mine in a second too.
- 4:41Tony D.: Don't worry, I'm going to give it a first drink.
- 4:42Brian M.: I'm about to get mine.
- 4:43Brian M.: Hold on.
- 4:44Carmen Lezeth: Why do you guys need a drink over that?
- 4:46Rick Costa: Brian's a huge foodie.
- 4:48Carmen Lezeth: I know, but I'm not saying anything that's incorrect.
- 4:51Tony D.: No, you're fine, we just keep our glasses to act like.
- 4:53Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, but he's actually like so depressed about the conversation of steak.
- 4:57Tony D.: The point you can touch up on any steak is blasphemy to him.
- 5:01Carmen Lezeth: Of course it is I'm just kidding Respectful, oh my God, ok.
- 5:06Brian M.: Respectful.
- 5:08Carmen Lezeth: All right, ok, so let's talk about everyone's year.
- 5:10Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I don't know what I came into, tony, when you and Rick were talking about his way.
- 5:15Tony D.: I was just thinking about what I did for the holidays.
- 5:16Tony D.: I saw nothing major, oh yeah.
- 5:17Rick Costa: Brian, what about you?
- 5:19Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, what did you do for the holidays?
- 5:20Carmen Lezeth: Or was it good?
- 5:21Carmen Lezeth: Whatever it was you did.
- 5:23Brian M.: It was good, got cash, got booze, more booze, more cash.
- 5:30Tony D.: And then Don't call Steve Austin what.
- 5:34Carmen Lezeth: More cash, More booze.
- 5:36Carmen Lezeth: What More booze cash?
- 5:39Brian M.: And I got like some hair products, so it's pretty cool.
- 5:43Carmen Lezeth: So the question was how was your holiday?
- 5:46Carmen Lezeth: Not what did you get?
- 5:47Carmen Lezeth: It was good, it was good I said it was good.
- 5:51Rick Costa: So the holidays to him means what the gifts he gets.
- 5:54Carmen Lezeth: The gifts he gets right.
- 5:55Carmen Lezeth: How much did you get Exactly?
- 5:57Brian M.: Clear skies, sunny, at 55 degrees, awesome.
- 6:01Tony D.: Being with 60.
- 6:01Tony D.: Yeah, that is chilly.
- 6:03Tony D.: Yeah, it was 60 degrees, she said it's chilly.
- 6:06Brian M.: I was in shorts and flip flops, with a sleeveless shirt.
- 6:08Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I live in California.
- 6:09Carmen Lezeth: That's too chilly.
- 6:10Carmen Lezeth: I'm cold.
- 6:11Carmen Lezeth: Now Look, I have on a sweater and it's like probably 64 out or 65.
- 6:16Brian M.: I mean it's cold outside.
- 6:18Brian M.: I have both of my bedroom windows open and I have the ceiling fan on.
- 6:22Carmen Lezeth: There's no prize.
- 6:23Carmen Lezeth: You know if you can withstand the cold more or not.
- 6:25Carmen Lezeth: There's no like.
- 6:26Ted Hicks: No.
- 6:26Carmen Lezeth: It's lovely, the best time of the year.
- 6:28Carmen Lezeth: Well, it's Texas, doesn't matter.
- 6:30Carmen Lezeth: Do you know what I?
- 6:31Brian M.: mean it doesn't matter, it's Texas, it doesn't matter.
- 6:36Carmen Lezeth: OK, let's go into.
- 6:37Carmen Lezeth: I'm glad you're here, brian.
- 6:38Carmen Lezeth: Thank you, I'm glad you're here.
- 6:40Carmen Lezeth: Ok, so I sent some, some quick clips of what I want to talk about.
- 6:45Carmen Lezeth: I just wanted to ask people what was the best part or the worst part?
- 6:49Carmen Lezeth: Let's start with the worst part of 2023, if you want to share.
- 6:52Carmen Lezeth: It could be a movie, music, it could be time at work, whatever a person.
- 6:56Carmen Lezeth: Well, you know, let's not be mean on people, but, rick, why don't you go first?
- 7:01Rick Costa: So I can kind of combine a worse and the best at the same time.
- 7:04Rick Costa: But it's Cool, it's awkward.
- 7:06Rick Costa: But so the worst was mom was outside.
- 7:09Rick Costa: She had taken her night pills, so she's sleepy, and kept saying please come inside, please come inside, please come inside.
- 7:14Rick Costa: Then she finally convinced her to come inside.
- 7:17Rick Costa: She reached for the railing and was short and went straight down and dislocated her shoulder so she ended up in the nursing home.
- 7:25Rick Costa: I think she was there for about three weeks.
- 7:26Rick Costa: So that's the bad, but those three weeks I had peace.
- 7:33Rick Costa: Right, so that was a good and a bad thing, yeah.
- 7:37Carmen Lezeth: And you felt a little guilty about that and I was like no, it makes sense.
- 7:42Carmen Lezeth: You know you needed a little bit of a break.
- 7:44Carmen Lezeth: It's not like you made it happen or anything.
- 7:46Carmen Lezeth: Yes, exactly Now.
- 7:47Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, so go ahead, tony, what you got.
- 7:50Tony D.: The best part of the year.
- 7:51Tony D.: I did get over being sick from being sick last year, because most of last year I was hurting bad Really.
- 7:57Tony D.: Yes, I had.
- 7:58Tony D.: I had COVID and it was bothering me all the way from last January, but I had it till this past, joe.
- 8:05Carmen Lezeth: I did not know that.
- 8:06Carmen Lezeth: Oh my God.
- 8:07Carmen Lezeth: Ok, so that was lingering for a while.
- 8:09Tony D.: Quite a while.
- 8:10Tony D.: I don't feel as if the last year and Rick was there for both of them he knows, he saw it and everybody who knows me they were like, no, he ain't lying, he ain't faking, because I was.
- 8:18Tony D.: I've had a lot of vaccinations and inoculations in my life.
- 8:21Tony D.: I never felt anything like that.
- 8:23Carmen Lezeth: So why would anyone think you're faking it?
- 8:26Tony D.: Oh, you were just saying no, they can't document what's wrong with you.
- 8:29Tony D.: That's what kicked my butt.
- 8:31Tony D.: I went to a doctor afterwards.
- 8:32Tony D.: I had to go to doctors to see what was going on and check for any lingering symptoms, and I told them what I had.
- 8:37Tony D.: They knew about it but they couldn't prove it.
- 8:39Tony D.: I would go do all the tests to see they see everything was wrong.
- 8:43Tony D.: I mean, they see everything that was right, but they couldn't tell me what was going on with me.
- 8:46Tony D.: That's one of my biggest complications.
- 8:48Tony D.: What happened?
- 8:49Tony D.: When people talk about what they're going through a COVID, they can't prove it.
- 8:51Tony D.: I'm the first to be like I can relate and I got co-workers that went through the same thing.
- 8:55Tony D.: I know people with relatives are going through the same thing.
- 8:57Tony D.: I can carry that conversation and people will be like this happened to me too, like I know, and they can't prove it Wait, you were diagnosed with COVID.
- 9:04Tony D.: Yeah, I literally took the test and had it came back positive.
- 9:06Carmen Lezeth: Okay, so you were diagnosed with COVID, but then you had underlying issues that they couldn't I do have pre-existing conditions myself.
- 9:12Tony D.: I'm not going to figure out what's happening and the lingering symptoms afterwards Right.
- 9:17Carmen Lezeth: Yeah.
- 9:17Tony D.: I mean literally like the fatigue is insane and I was literally driving to work, sitting on the overpass in line to get into work and fell asleep in a car with the car running.
- 9:27Tony D.: Now I'm going home, I just wouldn't go to work.
- 9:29Tony D.: That was a good thing.
- 9:32Tony D.: I think the worst thing was when I had to move, because that was something that I was fighting.
- 9:35Tony D.: I really was fighting.
- 9:37Carmen Lezeth: No, COVID was a bad thing.
- 9:38Tony D.: What do you mean?
- 9:39Tony D.: That was a bad thing.
- 9:39Tony D.: Well, what I said was getting over.
- 9:41Carmen Lezeth: It was a good thing, oh, getting over it.
- 9:43Rick Costa: I was like that's it.
- 9:45Carmen Lezeth: I'm like that move must have been horrible.
- 9:47Carmen Lezeth: The move was horrible.
- 9:49Tony D.: The move was horrible, right, but.
- 9:51Carmen Lezeth: I was saying I thought you meant worse than COVID, but it was horrible.
- 9:54Tony D.: But you've gotten to it, the worst thing, I think, for this year, and even though I'm over it now and I'm good and I'm comfortable, it was just something else and I hate losing battles that I'm like hard sit on trying to work on.
- 10:04Tony D.: So that was the biggest thing for me.
- 10:07Carmen Lezeth: OK, hey, brian.
- 10:09Brian M.: Hey Carmen.
- 10:10Carmen Lezeth: What about you?
- 10:10Carmen Lezeth: I know you probably didn't get to read what I wrote, but I was just wondering if you wanted to share some good or bad parts of the past year.
- 10:17Carmen Lezeth: I know talking to me on a regular basis now is probably joyful and happiness.
- 10:24Carmen Lezeth: He's doing good today.
- 10:26Brian M.: I haven't warmed up yet he's holding back, he's holding back.
- 10:28Brian M.: I haven't warmed up yet.
- 10:30Carmen Lezeth: OK, go ahead.
- 10:32Brian M.: I would have to say this is probably one of my better years, just with my job and everything, because I had opportunities to go help other branches in different states, which is kind of cool, and I mean the only downside is just just taking care of my truck one thing at a time.
- 10:50Carmen Lezeth: Yeah.
- 10:51Brian M.: I mean because, yeah, so that probably would probably say it'd be the only minor negative thing, but most of all, I think this is one of my better years.
- 11:00Carmen Lezeth: Really.
- 11:00Carmen Lezeth: Oh, that's awesome.
- 11:01Brian M.: Celebrating my birthday in Vegas and then just yes, yes, and I mean, things are on the up and up.
- 11:06Carmen Lezeth: So Awesome, that's cool.
- 11:08Carmen Lezeth: So for me, I think I cleaned up something that was really bad all year for me.
- 11:14Carmen Lezeth: I've been working way too much, I am too tired, I have too many clients.
- 11:20Carmen Lezeth: It's just I've taken on more than I could chew.
- 11:22Carmen Lezeth: And then I'm trying to do all about the joy.
- 11:24Carmen Lezeth: I'm trying to do all this stuff and I think you noticed, rick, this week I didn't post nothing.
- 11:27Carmen Lezeth: I'm like you know what I'm done.
- 11:29Carmen Lezeth: I'm not editing, I'm not doing nothing, I just need a break, like you know.
- 11:32Carmen Lezeth: It's like the holiday or whatever I called.
- 11:35Carmen Lezeth: I talked to a couple of my clients today because, again, it was this like you don't have to work all week, it's part of your bonus and gift.
- 11:41Carmen Lezeth: I'm like OK, cool, and why am I working all week?
- 11:43Carmen Lezeth: And so I talked to each one of my clients today.
- 11:46Carmen Lezeth: I sent them all an email separately and I'm like I can't do this.
- 11:50Carmen Lezeth: There's too much.
- 11:52Carmen Lezeth: Working 50, 60 hours a week is not what I signed up for.
- 11:56Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 11:57Carmen Lezeth: So something's got to give.
- 11:59Carmen Lezeth: And here are some ideas and this is what I'm willing to do.
- 12:02Carmen Lezeth: And they were all like when I say all, I mean three of them.
- 12:06Carmen Lezeth: The other two are cool, but the three of them I just it just became like you know how, like people ask you to work and then you do it, and then they keep asking you, and then they keep asking you, and then they just assume, they just assume you're going to keep doing it and for the same thing for the
- 12:22Carmen Lezeth: same thing.
- 12:23Carmen Lezeth: They're not like saying, oh, if you do this, we'll give you another $100 or something.
- 12:27Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 12:27Carmen Lezeth: They're not doing that.
- 12:28Carmen Lezeth: So, yeah, that's one of the things I did.
- 12:31Carmen Lezeth: I kind of just made that decision to put a stop to it.
- 12:34Carmen Lezeth: You know what's so weird?
- 12:35Carmen Lezeth: Because I was so stressed about having the conversation and what I didn't realize is, when you tell people what you need, sometimes they come forward and say, ok, we'll figure it out.
- 12:46Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean and I was grateful for that.
- 12:48Carmen Lezeth: So, ok, cool, what about and this isn't about resolutions, but any thoughts of what you want to do or look forward to in 2024?
- 12:59Carmen Lezeth: And I'll start to give you guys a minute to think about it.
- 13:02Carmen Lezeth: One of the things I really love that I did in 2023 is I stopped drinking alcohol, and I haven't done it on purpose.
- 13:08Carmen Lezeth: I know Tony's like.
- 13:11Tony D.: Well, that's one of the two things I honestly would go here.
- 13:14Carmen Lezeth: Peach knobs I had.
- 13:16Tony D.: No, I'm going to get on you in the schnapps.
- 13:17Tony D.: I'm going to buy you a bottle.
- 13:18Carmen Lezeth: You're not going to have had schnapps before.
- 13:21Carmen Lezeth: That's why I know it.
- 13:22Carmen Lezeth: You know what's so funny.
- 13:23Carmen Lezeth: Andrea turned on and she's like you know it's not really peach knobs.
- 13:27Carmen Lezeth: I'm like are you kidding?
- 13:28Tony D.: me.
- 13:28Tony D.: I told her where she's been.
- 13:29Tony D.: I saw it.
- 13:30Carmen Lezeth: Of course I know it's not, because when I was growing up and in college, my two drinks were Midori shower, just like Kool-Aid with a little bit of alcohol, basically, and peach schnapps.
- 13:46Carmen Lezeth: That's why I know what it is.
- 13:47Carmen Lezeth: So I was just making fun of you, but I've really gotten into mocktails.
- 13:51Carmen Lezeth: Have you guys had mocktails?
- 13:52Carmen Lezeth: Never, brian's like OK, we just had the steak conversation, I'm not doing this.
- 13:57Carmen Lezeth: Do you guys even know what mocktails are?
- 14:00Tony D.: Specifically no, I do not.
- 14:01Carmen Lezeth: Oh my god.
- 14:02Carmen Lezeth: Ok, it's really not a big deal.
- 14:03Carmen Lezeth: It's non-alcoholic drinks that you get at a bar that are actually fancy and cute.
- 14:11Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean?
- 14:11Carmen Lezeth: It's just, instead of saying, can I just have a shimble?
- 14:13Carmen Lezeth: The house specials.
- 14:14Carmen Lezeth: I'm sorry.
- 14:15Brian M.: The house, but it's like their house specials.
- 14:17Carmen Lezeth: No, you can actually ask for I don't know what's a fancy drink that people always get.
- 14:25Tony D.: Tom Collins.
- 14:26Carmen Lezeth: Tom Collins or whatever.
- 14:27Carmen Lezeth: But you can say can I have a mocktail Tom Collins or something?
- 14:30Carmen Lezeth: Well, tom Collins, that's like liquor, right, that's just all liquor.
- 14:33Tony D.: Yeah, but something that's fancy to most people.
- 14:35Carmen Lezeth: But like Sex on the Beach for a good example, like something like a Sex on the Beach or one of these, or like Pina Colada, right, one of these kind of drinks you can say I want a mocktail.
- 14:45Carmen Lezeth: Look, you guys are hardcore drinkers.
- 14:48Carmen Lezeth: I am not, and I'm shen because, ricky, you don't drink either.
- 14:50Carmen Lezeth: Right, not at all.
- 14:51Carmen Lezeth: And yeah, they're non-alcoholic drinks, but they're not like can I have a Shirley Temple and what?
- 14:58Tony D.: I've got to say is I forgot about?
- 14:59Carmen Lezeth: it.
- 14:59Tony D.: Yeah, you know what I mean it's exactly, so if she does the virgin drinks, I can get it.
- 15:02Tony D.: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:03Carmen Lezeth: So it's just fun because you can still be with everyone at the bar and the party or whatever.
- 15:07Carmen Lezeth: So I love that.
- 15:08Carmen Lezeth: I figured that out this year and it was just by accident, because I took some co-workers out to dinner just to say thank you to them and they both were like you don't mind if we just get mocktails.
- 15:18Carmen Lezeth: I'm like what's a mocktail?
- 15:20Carmen Lezeth: I thought it was a fancy drink.
- 15:22Carmen Lezeth: It is, but it's just non-alcoholic drinks.
- 15:26Carmen Lezeth: So I'm bringing that into 2024.
- 15:28Carmen Lezeth: So I'm excited about that.
- 15:29Carmen Lezeth: Ok, why don't you tell us, Tony, what you're looking for in 2024?
- 15:34Tony D.: I kind of want to get back to where I was in a single step, having a house, oh OK, and I want to say maintaining it.
- 15:40Tony D.: We did get the house together.
- 15:42Tony D.: I tried to keep it myself.
- 15:44Tony D.: I lost out.
- 15:45Tony D.: Sure, I know why.
- 15:46Tony D.: I'm able to make some moves to fix that.
- 15:48Tony D.: So I want to get back to that level.
- 15:50Carmen Lezeth: How long have you been divorced again?
- 15:51Carmen Lezeth: I'm sorry.
- 15:52Tony D.: I'm sorry.
- 15:53Carmen Lezeth: How long have you been divorced again?
- 15:54Tony D.: This month is the year that was finalized.
- 15:56Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, so it's still kind of new for you.
- 15:58Carmen Lezeth: That's new, it is.
- 16:00Tony D.: And then you moved.
- 16:01Tony D.: I'll be honest as I got out, as I got here, as I've been trying to regroup myself, I'm getting more and more over it.
- 16:10Tony D.: I went over there for Christmas.
- 16:11Tony D.: It was cool, family still welcoming and everything and yeah, I just got to get back.
- 16:16Tony D.: I got to get back to me.
- 16:18Carmen Lezeth: You got to get back to you.
- 16:19Tony D.: There's a thing about getting to you and that about you and somebody else anymore.
- 16:23Tony D.: I got him, I got my son on my mind and I said I got my oldest on my mind.
- 16:26Tony D.: That's pretty much it.
- 16:27Tony D.: I don't have a spouse on my mind.
- 16:29Carmen Lezeth: So how do you do that, though?
- 16:30Carmen Lezeth: How do you?
- 16:31Tony D.: Time.
- 16:32Carmen Lezeth: Time.
- 16:33Tony D.: I've been very honest about taking my time doing it.
- 16:35Tony D.: I've always told people if you get out of a situation relationship, relationship, marriage take half of the time of the relationship or whatever to recover.
- 16:42Tony D.: And we've been separated about three and a half years.
- 16:45Tony D.: Next month will be three and a half years.
- 16:46Tony D.: I'll somewhat push myself, but I actually got a part of me that's apathetic.
- 16:51Tony D.: I don't care and that's some of the pain personally for me, because I want 100% into it so I can meet people.
- 16:58Tony D.: They can want to do something.
- 16:59Tony D.: I'm like, no, why not?
- 17:00Tony D.: I don't feel like it, but it's been a long time.
- 17:03Tony D.: Yeah for you, but I don't care about you the way I cared about her.
- 17:06Tony D.: I don't care about you the way I cared about her.
- 17:08Tony D.: I'm at a point where if you push me, you can take your ass on.
- 17:11Tony D.: That's very hard for me because I'm also a very patient dude and I'll deal with stuff and I'll put up with things.
- 17:17Tony D.: But I'm at a point now I got to stop ignoring red flags.
- 17:20Tony D.: That's very hard.
- 17:21Tony D.: That's why I got to stop ignoring red flags, because I'm the kind of dude you got to get people dead anyway.
- 17:26Tony D.: You got to let people be themselves and certain red flags aren't my fault, so I'll deal with it.
- 17:31Tony D.: But some red flags nowadays you can go, I don't know, I'm just laughing.
- 17:35Carmen Lezeth: I'm not laughing at you.
- 17:38Rick Costa: I'm laughing because Rick is over.
- 17:44Tony D.: I'm not going to deal with any more pettiness.
- 17:45Tony D.: I don't need nobody researching me.
- 17:48Carmen Lezeth: I don't need nobody going through my whatever you know what You're going to, just do the best you can with what you have in front of you.
- 17:54Tony D.: Well, I got to maintain, and that's all you need to do.
- 17:56Tony D.: You did the best you could in the past too.
- 17:58Tony D.: Maintain myself is a very big goal.
- 18:01Carmen Lezeth: Yes.
- 18:02Tony D.: We always have something in want to share.
- 18:05Tony D.: Sharing hasn't necessarily cost me, but me losing focus is what cost me.
- 18:10Tony D.: So I have to maintain myself and I don't blame anybody for what I'm going through anymore, because I'm the kind of dude If I got it, I want to help other people get theirs.
- 18:18Tony D.: I got to get mine and maintain it.
- 18:20Carmen Lezeth: You got to take care of you.
- 18:21Carmen Lezeth: Let me just say Melanie said preach Tony.
- 18:25Rick Costa: When I posted a little ad for this, I said bye, bye 2023 and hello 2024, looking for more.
- 18:31Rick Costa: So kind of the same thing.
- 18:33Carmen Lezeth: Looking for more.
- 18:33Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, brian, what you looking for?
- 18:36Brian M.: I mean always, like you know, self-improvement.
- 18:38Brian M.: I mean I know I still got a lot of areas to work on, but you know, at the time of mine you've just been taking part in something like that.
- 18:42Brian M.: They'll get handled eventually as time goes on.
- 18:45Brian M.: But mainly to, like Tony's point, just mainly focusing on myself and not being, yeah, I mean good, like like I could relate, to turn like just the little things, the distractions you know, I kind of kind of went.
- 18:57Brian M.: So now I'm like gotta be in the zone because my, my overall end goal is like handle everything.
- 19:03Brian M.: And then for reward to myself, like later in the year I don't know, I might I'm thinking, oh, I mean I'll see if I can find like $49 a night kind of room, but but yeah, but I think like like to reward myself, you know cuz I'm just gonna just mainly focus and grind.
- 19:33Brian M.: But to reward myself, I'm thinking like I don't know, italy, reykjavik, wyoming, I have no idea.
- 19:37Brian M.: Yeah, reykjavik, iceland, yeah, I mean, it's just I Would I.
- 19:52Brian M.: And also to like what I want to do is like I want to have like one National vacation and then one international vacation.
- 19:59Ted Hicks: I love that within the year.
- 20:01Brian M.: Yeah, that's also like what I have set forth as well.
- 20:03Carmen Lezeth: That's your goal.
- 20:04Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, you said that before.
- 20:05Carmen Lezeth: I'm gonna make sure I like I'm taking two weeks off and going away and I'm just gonna be on an island and with a whole bunch of my friends and I'm excited about it and I haven't done that in a long time.
- 20:16Carmen Lezeth: But, Rick, what about you?
- 20:17Carmen Lezeth: What are you looking forward to in 24?
- 20:19Rick Costa: So back to my mom again.
- 20:21Rick Costa: Sorry, it's all consuming.
- 20:22Rick Costa: It seems like right.
- 20:23Rick Costa: He's got her on it and the doctor's got her on new medicine that's supposed to hopefully help with memory and stuff.
- 20:27Rick Costa: It gives us this accumulative effect to go, so might not really kicking good until January, so I'm hoping it helps With stuff like that.
- 20:36Rick Costa: But yeah, looking into, maybe see what I could do as far as like maybe a little side hustles, maybe a little extra figuring out little things only fans.
- 20:51Carmen Lezeth: You guys are so serious.
- 20:53Rick Costa: You know we keep ideas.
- 20:55Rick Costa: If I, if I were doing the fans that show my feet.
- 20:57Rick Costa: That's all you can see.
- 20:58Rick Costa: You know what.
- 20:59Carmen Lezeth: There's probably money in that.
- 21:00Carmen Lezeth: I would stay off of only fans.
- 21:06Carmen Lezeth: I'm just yeah, writing we need to travel somewhere and all hang out.
- 21:12Carmen Lezeth: No, this is how this whole boozy thing started.
- 21:18Tony D.: I don't have boozy money, but I would try.
- 21:23Carmen Lezeth: Together with LNMP and 8 a tj somewhere.
- 21:27Tony D.: That would be fun to do a live Interesting broadcast would be bananas.
- 21:33Tony D.: But how?
- 21:34Carmen Lezeth: would we do that, though, I mean, and then not, not, where would get we?
- 21:37Carmen Lezeth: But you can't?
- 21:37Carmen Lezeth: We'd have to have mics, it would be.
- 21:39Carmen Lezeth: That would be a whole different thing.
- 21:41Tony D.: So he's got an agenda for you.
- 21:43Tony D.: Karma what it has an agenda for you.
- 21:46Carmen Lezeth: Ted Hicks, 2024, hosting a Tj during Carmen's two-week vacation.
- 21:51Carmen Lezeth: Yes, contrary to our host, this is Okay.
- 21:55Carmen Lezeth: First of all, I don't know why.
- 21:57Carmen Lezeth: Why does he want to use my brand?
- 21:59Carmen Lezeth: That's so badly?
- 22:00Carmen Lezeth: I don't need it from sports people.
- 22:09Tony D.: No offense, but you're we do current events very well, thank you, you, you do current events for half a second.
- 22:17Carmen Lezeth: Then it's like so the bills played that and I'm like oh my god, can we stay on on topic?
- 22:23Tony D.: that has been this year.
- 22:24Tony D.: Previously, when I was on with it, I've been broke has to almost three years now.
- 22:28Tony D.: We did current events on.
- 22:29Carmen Lezeth: I've never seen your show and you only done current events.
- 22:32Tony D.: Yeah, we did it for about a year or two.
- 22:33Tony D.: Yeah, but I'm concerned about the.
- 22:38Carmen Lezeth: I need more sports.
- 22:39Carmen Lezeth: No, no, I don't want you guys do sports and you do it so well.
- 22:44Carmen Lezeth: And here's what I do love about Late night parents is that you guys are all men and you do talk about stuff.
- 22:51Carmen Lezeth: But I wish, like, when you're talking about social stuff, that's actually the interesting part, you know what I mean?
- 22:56Carmen Lezeth: Like it gets so fascinating.
- 22:58Carmen Lezeth: First up Rick for a Marvel centric episode, see, and he's not you're not gonna invite me up.
- 23:05Carmen Lezeth: I'm into Marvel.
- 23:06Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, you are.
- 23:07Carmen Lezeth: Why don't you come visit?
- 23:10Carmen Lezeth: Why don't?
- 23:11Brian M.: you come.
- 23:15Rick Costa: I'm not a sports person either, but the thing that does amuse me is when you guys talk about the people slapping the crap out of each other.
- 23:26Tony D.: Yeah.
- 23:26Brian M.: Jojo, jojo and I yeah, we talked about power slap league.
- 23:31Carmen Lezeth: I like.
- 23:31Carmen Lezeth: Out of all of you, he's my favorite.
- 23:33Carmen Lezeth: You're trying to learn him.
- 23:34Carmen Lezeth: We don't want you.
- 23:40Brian M.: He's a Red Sox fan too.
- 23:42Carmen Lezeth: I know he is cuz he's on the East Coast.
- 23:43Carmen Lezeth: Tony, did you know who I like?
- 23:47Tony D.: I'm not going there with you.
- 23:48Carmen Lezeth: I watch that whole show.
- 23:50Carmen Lezeth: When that man's on, I'm like huh, I'm like hi everyone.
- 24:00Tony D.: Yeah, yeah you're right, we're gonna call Blaze next time.
- 24:04Brian M.: Blaze.
- 24:09Carmen Lezeth: I love Blaze.
- 24:09Carmen Lezeth: You know who I'm talking about.
- 24:12Tony D.: I'm talking about.
- 24:14Rick Costa: Is this name Tim?
- 24:17Tony D.: Is that his name?
- 24:17Tony D.: I'm going to watch the news next time, Wait so.
- 24:21Carmen Lezeth: Rick, I tell Tony, like on a TV show, I'm like that man is fine.
- 24:24Carmen Lezeth: He is so pretty, like when I first saw him.
- 24:27Tony D.: Yeah, this is the episode I said.
- 24:29Carmen Lezeth: He goes, he's married and I'm like I didn't say I want to sleep with him, I just said that man is fine you know what I mean.
- 24:38Brian M.: It was like his skin.
- 24:39Brian M.: It was smooth as buttermilk.
- 24:40Brian M.: He's got that jawline, that's what she was drooling.
- 24:44Carmen Lezeth: Okay, let me just say, tony, I did not say all that.
- 24:47Brian M.: But clearly somebody else, your body language.
- 24:51Carmen Lezeth: Somebody else noticed his attitude, because I did not say all that, that's the first thing you'll look at.
- 24:56Carmen Lezeth: No, he is pretty Right, because you guys don't, you guys don't look at that first?
- 25:02Carmen Lezeth: Sure, okay, how about movies and TV?
- 25:04Carmen Lezeth: Do you have a favorite from 2023?
- 25:06Carmen Lezeth: Hoaching 101.
- 25:09Tony D.: Of course, you first.
- 25:12Rick Costa: So I got to think about Marvel.
- 25:13Rick Costa: Was Dr Strange this year, or was it last year?
- 25:18Carmen Lezeth: I can't believe he didn't just flirt out Loki, loki, wow.
- 25:21Rick Costa: Well, that's a movie, you said.
- 25:23Carmen Lezeth: That's a show.
- 25:23Carmen Lezeth: That's a show.
- 25:25Rick Costa: Loki was excellent.
- 25:26Rick Costa: Loved it, loved it, loved it.
- 25:27Rick Costa: I thought it was great, very well done.
- 25:31Tony D.: Are you watching?
- 25:32Tony D.: What If you kidding me?
- 25:34Tony D.: Of course, I'm actually behind a couple of episodes.
- 25:37Brian M.: I'm still on the other, tony Stark.
- 25:38Brian M.: I haven't finished.
- 25:40Tony D.: Okay, hey, I haven't started season two yet, oh now you know how it feels, mr.
- 25:43Tony D.: Oh well, I was kidding.
- 25:46Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, now you know how it feels.
- 25:47Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I'm not saying you have to be quick, you have to be careful, but I was glad to see Brian.
- 25:51Carmen Lezeth: I'm just saying I'm, I'm defending you, brian, but it's only because I haven't seen it, because if I had seen it, we'd be talking about all of it, regardless of whether or not you say it.
- 25:59Carmen Lezeth: So just see how nice I'm being trying to sort it.
- 26:03Brian M.: You said virtual hug Virtual hug.
- 26:06Brian M.: Yeah, you go.
- 26:09Rick Costa: Yeah, Loki was very well done.
- 26:10Carmen Lezeth: I thought, yeah, I would say one of the best of the year.
- 26:13Carmen Lezeth: Loki was one of the best of the year.
- 26:15Carmen Lezeth: Like I enjoyed watching that back to back.
- 26:17Carmen Lezeth: I did not feel like I had to watch it after you told me.
- 26:22Rick Costa: And one thing that I enjoy is because I'm I have this uncanny ability to predict what's going to happen.
- 26:27Rick Costa: But when I watch something and I literally oh, I didn't see that coming a mile away.
- 26:31Rick Costa: I love that because I always people hate going to the movies with me because I'm like watch what's going to happen, it's going to be, and then like, did you watch this?
- 26:39Rick Costa: No, I'm just good.
- 26:40Carmen Lezeth: Just because you're talking out loud is not because none of us can predict it.
- 26:44Brian M.: Some things are very formal, but we don't like talking to Rick's point, I mean like when my ex-girlfriend and I were with to go see the movie Regie, I could automatically, within the first 30 seconds when the movie just started, I could automatically say, oh, she's going to hang herself.
- 26:57Brian M.: And then, like a few minutes later, she hung herself.
- 27:00Brian M.: She's like.
- 27:01Carmen Lezeth: Did you say it out loud in the movie theater?
- 27:03Brian M.: No, I just whispered to her ear.
- 27:04Brian M.: I'm like she's going to hang herself.
- 27:06Carmen Lezeth: I have a feeling Rick is a taco.
- 27:08Rick Costa: No, I don't say it to everybody, but the one thing I do do that's annoying is, if something's funny, I kind of laugh really loud and that embarrasses people.
- 27:17Carmen Lezeth: What are the movies I'll?
- 27:19Carmen Lezeth: tell you, mine, and then I don't think any of you have seen it.
- 27:21Carmen Lezeth: So I went and saw Maestro, unbelievably done with Bradley Cooper, the story of Leonard Bernstein.
- 27:29Carmen Lezeth: You don't know who he is, that's okay, but if you ever saw the play West Side Story, yes, okay.
- 27:35Carmen Lezeth: So the music from West Side Story, that's the Maestro, right, that's the.
- 27:39Carmen Lezeth: He's the writer, composer of most of the music there.
- 27:43Carmen Lezeth: So it was a beautifully done movie, like piece of art, and it was Bradley Cooper directed it, acted in it and I think he also wrote parts of it too.
- 27:53Carmen Lezeth: So, watching a genius in motion in my lifetime.
- 27:57Carmen Lezeth: I love when that happens.
- 27:58Carmen Lezeth: The other person that I loved and this was a while back is Lin-Manuel Miranda.
- 28:02Carmen Lezeth: Do you know who he is?
- 28:03Carmen Lezeth: Hamilton Hamilton.
- 28:07Tony D.: And he did sound like.
- 28:08Brian M.: Hermawanna.
- 28:11Carmen Lezeth: Yes, of course.
- 28:11Carmen Lezeth: But you know like I love these moments when you see geniuses like in their moment of just being amazing.
- 28:17Carmen Lezeth: And I feel like Bradley Cooper is having that moment.
- 28:20Carmen Lezeth: He's just absolutely brilliant as a director and as an actor and it's just well done.
- 28:25Carmen Lezeth: And that was my favorite movie this year.
- 28:28Carmen Lezeth: And I haven't seen color purple yet, but I'm going to see it next week.
- 28:32Carmen Lezeth: I don't know how that is yet.
- 28:36Rick Costa: So what about you guys?
- 28:38Rick Costa: Movies?
- 28:38Rick Costa: I was always sorry to interrupt, not to interrupt the subject, but I've always wondered, like, how difficult is it to direct and be an actor in the same thing that you're doing?
- 28:48Rick Costa: Like, what level of?
- 28:49Brian M.: Watch Clint Eastwood.
- 28:51Brian M.: Does it like, like it's nothing now, yeah, clint Eastwood writer, director and producer.
- 28:56Carmen Lezeth: But it's hard, it's not an easy thing to do.
- 28:58Carmen Lezeth: You have to have that talent.
- 28:58Carmen Lezeth: I mean, you said Clint Eastwood.
- 29:00Carmen Lezeth: You didn't say like some 20 year old somebody else.
- 29:02Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 29:03Carmen Lezeth: It's a tough thing.
- 29:04Carmen Lezeth: So Clint Eastwood's up there.
- 29:06Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 29:06Carmen Lezeth: Like I mean yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:11Brian M.: I mean because everybody, everybody wonders that too, like how does he do it?
- 29:13Brian M.: But I mean Clint, clint just does it.
- 29:16Brian M.: I could probably say like the Marvels was a flop, but Wonka was good.
- 29:21Brian M.: I went to go see Wonka the other night.
- 29:23Brian M.: That was really good.
- 29:24Carmen Lezeth: Wasn't really Okay.
- 29:26Brian M.: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:27Brian M.: Basically, wonka is like how he became Wonka, because on the previous movies he was already established.
- 29:32Brian M.: So now it's like what do he do to get established?
- 29:37Rick Costa: So like an origin story kind of yes, it is yeah.
- 29:40Brian M.: Yeah, yeah, yeah, good back origin story.
- 29:43Tony D.: Yeah yeah, timothy.
- 29:44Tony D.: Chalamet right I forgot what his name was, yeah.
- 29:47Brian M.: Yeah.
- 29:47Carmen Lezeth: Timothy Chalamet.
- 29:49Brian M.: The guy that played Wonka.
- 29:50Brian M.: Also, he did Dune, which was really good yeah, that's Timothy Chalamet, yeah.
- 29:55Rick Costa: That's him.
- 29:56Rick Costa: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:59Tony D.: I heard of him.
- 30:01Tony D.: I heard of him.
- 30:01Tony D.: I told him you got to watch the original one to like this one.
- 30:03Tony D.: And I haven't seen the original at all yet.
- 30:05Tony D.: Oh I don't know if that's true.
- 30:08Tony D.: Okay, I'm going to watch them both on purpose For me.
- 30:10Tony D.: The best movie this year to me was Top Gun Maverick.
- 30:12Tony D.: I loved it.
- 30:13Carmen Lezeth: That was a good movie, was it?
- 30:15Tony D.: It was a sequel that was worth the wait.
- 30:17Tony D.: They did it right.
- 30:18Tony D.: Elvis was good too.
- 30:20Tony D.: I didn't watch Elvis, I didn't, but he did, oh, the original story.
- 30:23Tony D.: He didn't either.
- 30:24Tony D.: He did it right.
- 30:25Tony D.: They played everything all the way through.
- 30:28Tony D.: I was like I'm a aircraft dude and I was losing my mind with those new planes that was in there.
- 30:33Tony D.: It was.
- 30:35Tony D.: I just loved everything about that.
- 30:36Carmen Lezeth: That was a great action movie storyline Val Kilmer coming back as Iceman.
- 30:40Carmen Lezeth: I mean I was like crying because I love Val Kilmer.
- 30:44Tony D.: That was really well done.
- 30:45Tony D.: Val was actually that sick.
- 30:48Tony D.: My understanding he's actually that sick he still came out.
- 30:50Carmen Lezeth: Oh no, no, he has been for a long time.
- 30:52Tony D.: Yes, he played it.
- 30:53Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, no, no, no, he has throat cancer.
- 30:56Brian M.: Yeah.
- 30:58Carmen Lezeth: He had to talk to him in around Hulu.
- 31:00Carmen Lezeth: Yes, and it was so well done yeah.
- 31:02Tony D.: They missed the key piece of that movie the plane that Tom Cruise was working on.
- 31:05Tony D.: It's a P-51 Mustang.
- 31:07Tony D.: That's actually the plane of Tuskegee Airmen flew and one of the original graduating classes of Top Gun was a Tuskegee Airmen.
- 31:13Tony D.: They threw that in there as well.
- 31:15Tony D.: Yes, oh, I missed that.
- 31:17Tony D.: They threw that in there and I had to start video one.
- 31:21Tony D.: I was like wait a minute.
- 31:21Tony D.: I had to go back and look and yeah, that was.
- 31:24Tony D.: That was one of the subliminals that was in that movie that I actually appreciate.
- 31:28Carmen Lezeth: Oh, I love when they do that.
- 31:29Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I have to catch that again then.
- 31:31Tony D.: And I want to tell Brian me we was talking about Walker.
- 31:34Tony D.: Earlier this week I took Jason to see it.
- 31:35Tony D.: I caught a few things in that movie but I thought they did it very well.
- 31:38Tony D.: They did do Walker well.
- 31:40Tony D.: It made disturb a couple of folks who are deep diggers or whatever, but as far as what they were trying to do in the story they were telling, I thought they did a good job.
- 31:50Carmen Lezeth: What's a deep?
- 31:50Carmen Lezeth: What's a deep?
- 31:53Tony D.: It's kind of Peter Pownish to me.
- 31:54Tony D.: There's a Peter Pownish what.
- 31:56Tony D.: There's a Peter Powne element to that movie.
- 31:59Tony D.: Okay, and he came in and I don't want to give the whole story away because it's only been out for a month, but it was good.
- 32:03Tony D.: They did it right.
- 32:04Tony D.: I want to throw that out there before anything else comes out.
- 32:07Tony D.: I caught a couple things.
- 32:08Tony D.: I'm going to wait a couple months before I talk about it.
- 32:09Tony D.: I caught a couple things when I was watching because I was like, okay, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait, but they did it good, they did it good.
- 32:15Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to say two things out loud.
- 32:16Carmen Lezeth: Ted Hicks, I know you're trying to come up and I've put you up, but there you are.
- 32:22Ted Hicks: How you?
- 32:22Carmen Lezeth: doing.
- 32:22Carmen Lezeth: Thank you, ted, for stopping by.
- 32:25Carmen Lezeth: Hi, how are you?
- 32:26Ted Hicks: How are you?
- 32:27Tony D.: What's up bro?
- 32:28Ted Hicks: Doing good hey what's going on everyone?
- 32:30Carmen Lezeth: Ted, how you doing Pretty good.
- 32:32Carmen Lezeth: How are you Good?
- 32:33Carmen Lezeth: How was this past holiday for you?
- 32:36Ted Hicks: Holiday's been great.
- 32:37Ted Hicks: Holiday's been great, uneventful, and that's how we like it.
- 32:43Ted Hicks: Yeah, uneventful, and Tony was talking about what he was talking about, a movie or yeah, we were talking about our favorite movies or TV shows from 2023.
- 32:54Carmen Lezeth: So he was talking about Top Gun and that he really enjoyed it.
- 32:57Carmen Lezeth: And you know, yeah, what was your favorite movie of the year, if you were able to see any?
- 33:03Ted Hicks: What was my favorite movie?
- 33:05Ted Hicks: Avatar.
- 33:05Ted Hicks: That was a lot of work.
- 33:07Ted Hicks: I did watch it.
- 33:08Ted Hicks: What was my favorite movie that I watched a couple of?
- 33:10Rick Costa: times.
- 33:11Rick Costa: I can tell you an intriguing movie that just came out Leave the World Behind.
- 33:15Rick Costa: The Obamas had a part of that, I guess.
- 33:18Carmen Lezeth: What is it?
- 33:19Carmen Lezeth: Leave the.
- 33:19Rick Costa: World Behind.
- 33:20Rick Costa: Oh, it's a production company.
- 33:22Rick Costa: Yeah, it's an intriguing you saw it, mm-hmm.
- 33:25Rick Costa: Julia Roberts, kevin Feet.
- 33:28Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, it's about like the cyber stocking something, right yeah?
- 33:32Rick Costa: Well, it was stocking.
- 33:33Rick Costa: It was just like a Apocalyptic.
- 33:35Rick Costa: The title says it Leave the World Behind, yeah.
- 33:39Rick Costa: Okay, okay okay, all right, all right, all right.
- 33:40Rick Costa: Look at him Like don't say anything.
- 33:41Rick Costa: Don't say anything, right, all right.
- 33:43Carmen Lezeth: Yeah.
- 33:46Ted Hicks: Yes.
- 33:47Carmen Lezeth: Hmm.
- 33:48Ted Hicks: Okay, just go on watching and scratch Hercela, I leave in it.
- 33:52Carmen Lezeth: Yes, and we love him.
- 33:54Carmen Lezeth: Did he win?
- 33:57Ted Hicks: an Oscar or two.
- 33:58Carmen Lezeth: He was nominated twice and he won once already.
- 34:00Tony D.: Yeah, carl, I'm going to give a favor from you two, since you were over there in that area, see if he's still going to play Blade or not, because I saw the story when he wasn't.
- 34:08Tony D.: I think he is, I think he is.
- 34:12Brian M.: I think they scrapped that project, did they?
- 34:14Brian M.: Yeah Blade, yeah, blade yeah.
- 34:18Tony D.: No, he's supposed to be the new blade.
- 34:19Tony D.: I had an article that came around October, I think it was.
- 34:21Tony D.: They said they're going to bring Wesley Snipes back.
- 34:23Carmen Lezeth: I was like whoa Tony, he's so cute.
- 34:25Carmen Lezeth: Just because I live here doesn't mean I have a different connection.
- 34:28Tony D.: I mean you know you be in the industry.
- 34:29Tony D.: Every time I see something, you know I'm in the industry.
- 34:32Carmen Lezeth: Let me just give him a quick ring.
- 34:33Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:34Tony D.: Somebody knows somebody?
- 34:35Tony D.: No, no, no.
- 34:39Ted Hicks: Toby went to high school with Wesley Snipes.
- 34:41Tony D.: No, no, no, no, I was in there.
- 34:44Tony D.: Oh, okay, I'm going to call them the new blade.
- 34:49Brian M.: Yeah, cause apparently, like on on Marvel, there's going to be, if there's like, a couple of projects that got scrapped, but then they're going to do some rewrites.
- 34:57Carmen Lezeth: Scrapped or pushed because of the writer strike and the actor say aren't they pushed back?
- 35:02Brian M.: No, well, I think they're.
- 35:04Brian M.: I think they're scrapping and doing rewrites, cause a lot of people are saying, if you're going to do a story, make the story good, because how the last couple of Marvel stuff kind of just flopped big time Got you yeah.
- 35:16Brian M.: So that was the one thing.
- 35:17Brian M.: So they're just like they're going to put all of all the stuff on pause, do some rewrites and go from there.
- 35:23Brian M.: Okay.
- 35:25Ted Hicks: I'll tell you now Mission impossible.
- 35:27Ted Hicks: I didn't see you Mission impossible.
- 35:30Ted Hicks: It wasn't ghost protocol, it was.
- 35:33Ted Hicks: I think it was fallout.
- 35:34Ted Hicks: No, I don't think it's fallout, it's like Dave reckoning or something like that.
- 35:39Carmen Lezeth: Mission impossible.
- 35:40Carmen Lezeth: You thought was good at.
- 35:41Carmen Lezeth: That's already streaming on HBO or something.
- 35:43Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:46Ted Hicks: I went and sold it in the movies.
- 35:47Ted Hicks: I saw that and I saw the only two movies I saw this year.
- 35:49Ted Hicks: Actually, are you guys talking about physically in the movie or watching it Just?
- 35:53Carmen Lezeth: what you liked in 2023.
- 35:55Carmen Lezeth: We're just talking about the year Different topic.
- 36:00Ted Hicks: I wanted to like.
- 36:00Ted Hicks: I wanted to like Indiana Jones.
- 36:03Ted Hicks: I was really all pumped up, really, let me tell yeah.
- 36:08Tony D.: I was like I don't want to do it.
- 36:13Carmen Lezeth: I don't want to do it.
- 36:15Carmen Lezeth: I don't want to do it.
- 36:15Carmen Lezeth: I don't want to do it, I just want to do it yeah.
- 36:17Carmen Lezeth: I thought the same way.
- 36:19Carmen Lezeth: I forgot I saw that movie.
- 36:22Ted Hicks: That's how bad it was.
- 36:23Ted Hicks: We went to the movie theater.
- 36:26Carmen Lezeth: Me and my God daughter, yeah yeah, and the movie theater to go see it.
- 36:31Carmen Lezeth: And I was like all right, and yeah yeah, and looking I was like I was like I'm not going to go see it, I'm not going to go see it, I'm not going to train, and we're jumping off the roof and we're doing this, and I was like we both looked at each other and she was just 15.
- 36:48Ted Hicks: She was like this is exhausting.
- 36:49Ted Hicks: I'm like 25 minutes was a let down.
- 36:51Ted Hicks: When All right, I'm going to say something you have an 80 year old man running and you have a 25 year old face on it and I'm like, okay, this.
- 37:01Carmen Lezeth: Right, right.
- 37:01Carmen Lezeth: Something's not right about this.
- 37:06Ted Hicks: Yeah, this is the first thing there's a record of this.
- 37:09Ted Hicks: This is the first thing this was.
- 37:12Ted Hicks: It was a weird CGI thing, it was.
- 37:15Carmen Lezeth: It was really weird, and the first act was like I said that first, I mean well, you know this, I'm karma.
- 37:21Carmen Lezeth: It was 25 minutes.
- 37:22Ted Hicks: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:23Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, because they were trying to build a story around the younger Indiana Jones.
- 37:29Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, and they were using him, but they used.
- 37:32Carmen Lezeth: I don't know if it's CGI and they made Robert Downey Jr really thin in Endgame.
- 37:37Carmen Lezeth: You believed it.
- 37:39Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 37:39Carmen Lezeth: Like you really believed it, remember.
- 37:41Carmen Lezeth: They made him really thin because he was starving and so they used that all the time, you know.
- 37:45Carmen Lezeth: Oh, cynthia said Barbie.
- 37:47Carmen Lezeth: I guess Tony reacted and then said Tony, barbie was great, sounds like the old movie Cliffhanger Bullet Train is really good.
- 37:55Carmen Lezeth: That was good too.
- 37:56Carmen Lezeth: Oh, okay, kimmy Callie said leave the world behind Was really really good.
- 38:00Carmen Lezeth: So I'm a go, because Rick and Kimmy Kimmy, kimmy, kimmy Callie said for me to go.
- 38:06Ted Hicks: But the ending don't be so prepared for, like what are you talking?
- 38:12Carmen Lezeth: about Leave the world behind.
- 38:13Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, okay, no, no, don't tell me nothing.
- 38:15Rick Costa: There's definitely something that you could watch more than once, because there's a lot like wait, there's a lot happened and it's like did you get it all?
- 38:23Rick Costa: So, you almost want to watch it again, and the ends left up to interpretation.
- 38:26Rick Costa: You don't really know what happened in the end.
- 38:29Carmen Lezeth: Wow, awesome Okay.
- 38:30Rick Costa: Oh, the one with the kid that plays Spider-Man, but he's a schizophrenic.
- 38:35Rick Costa: That was a good show.
- 38:36Rick Costa: That was a really good show.
- 38:37Carmen Lezeth: I don't know.
- 38:38Carmen Lezeth: I don't know what that's about.
- 38:40Rick Costa: Something room, crowded room, crowded room.
- 38:43Rick Costa: That was good, I did not see that?
- 38:44Carmen Lezeth: I did not see that.
- 38:45Carmen Lezeth: What about?
- 38:46Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to give a shout out to Barbie.
- 38:48Carmen Lezeth: Barbie was an amazingly phenomenal, interesting, quirky, social moving, thought-provoking, and I'm just so happy it was made also by a woman, because it killed in the box office and we need that.
- 39:03Carmen Lezeth: We need more different people at stores.
- 39:06Carmen Lezeth: It killed, so you know Bravo for moving forward.
- 39:10Carmen Lezeth: Okay, yeah, yeah, no, go ahead, it's all good, it's all good.
- 39:14Rick Costa: There's no rules.
- 39:15Rick Costa: I found it interesting that they also didn't.
- 39:17Rick Costa: They do Oppenheimer at the same time.
- 39:19Carmen Lezeth: Oppenheimer was great but too depressing.
- 39:20Carmen Lezeth: Oppenheimer came after Barbie.
- 39:22Carmen Lezeth: No, there was around the same time, that's why the Golanian?
- 39:24Carmen Lezeth: Barb and Hymer.
- 39:25Rick Costa: Yeah, it was like a double feature.
- 39:27Rick Costa: Yeah, they both did well, but I had to force myself to get through that one.
- 39:32Rick Costa: I got to lie it was sad.
- 39:33Carmen Lezeth: It was sad.
- 39:33Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, that was a sad movie.
- 39:34Carmen Lezeth: Ok what about music, any great, amazing music or videos, or were you all became Swifties this year?
- 39:45Carmen Lezeth: I didn't either.
- 39:48Carmen Lezeth: I respect her, I'm happy for her.
- 39:51Carmen Lezeth: I think she was pretty amazing and I did see the concert.
- 39:54Carmen Lezeth: It's just not my music, but I get it.
- 39:57Carmen Lezeth: I get it and I love the whole kind of sister thing with her and Beyonce.
- 40:04Carmen Lezeth: You know, because people were trying to pit them against each other and there's not going to be any of that with Beyonce.
- 40:11Tony D.: Yeah, that was just money.
- 40:11Tony D.: Put the two together and y'all going to make a killing off of it.
- 40:14Carmen Lezeth: No, but they are together.
- 40:15Carmen Lezeth: But people are always trying to pit them against each other, right?
- 40:17Carmen Lezeth: Oh, the music nowadays.
- 40:20Tony D.: It does.
- 40:21Carmen Lezeth: I can't swear no more In the last week of 2023, I am not swearing, so I cannot use that word.
- 40:28Carmen Lezeth: But hey, I'm almost.
- 40:30Carmen Lezeth: We got two more minutes.
- 40:31Rick Costa: I can do it without, so we were we were arguing on my broadcast if that word actually is a swear or not.
- 40:36Rick Costa: Get the swear.
- 40:38Carmen Lezeth: Not the way she used it.
- 40:40Tony D.: I'm going to say music wise.
- 40:41Tony D.: I just heard this last week.
- 40:42Tony D.: I'm a hip hop fan.
- 40:43Tony D.: Everybody knows it, if you like rap music at all.
- 40:45Tony D.: Paul Wall dropped the album last week, a week before.
- 40:48Tony D.: It was good, it wasn't too bad.
- 40:50Tony D.: It wasn't too bad, it wasn't too out the wall.
- 40:52Tony D.: It was good for those, I want to say those of us who are old school hip hop as, or those of us who know hip hop and miss what we had 10, 20 years ago.
- 41:01Carmen Lezeth: Oh really.
- 41:01Tony D.: And almost yeah, that was a good CD.
- 41:03Tony D.: It's called the Great Wall.
- 41:04Tony D.: If you're a hip hop fan, I highly recommend actually posted it.
- 41:07Tony D.: That's how much I like it.
- 41:08Tony D.: If I like your album that much, I will throw it everywhere.
- 41:10Carmen Lezeth: And I did it everywhere.
- 41:11Carmen Lezeth: Ok, I told him, I see you.
- 41:13Tony D.: That was a good one.
- 41:14Tony D.: It's Texas hip hop.
- 41:16Carmen Lezeth: But you just ruined it right there, you just no, that's fine, that's fine.
- 41:20Tony D.: Did I need to know it was?
- 41:21Carmen Lezeth: Texas hip hop I don't even yes, you did yes.
- 41:23Carmen Lezeth: What does that mean?
- 41:25Tony D.: exactly Like who else would be, so I can make my own UGK, Paul Wall, Camillionaire, all those Houston rappers.
- 41:34Tony D.: That was a good album coming out of that area to me and I got to listen to music so that was a good one.
- 41:41Tony D.: That was.
- 41:41Tony D.: That was a good one, Seriously it was.
- 41:43Tony D.: It was kind of grown hip hop, if you will.
- 41:45Carmen Lezeth: Is there a song that chimes in for you this past year, like for me and Rick knows almost say this year for me?
- 41:51Carmen Lezeth: A song that would not get out of my head, and still does not, is Smile by Kirk Franklin.
- 41:57Carmen Lezeth: I don't know why, but that song came to me this year.
- 42:01Tony D.: The song that came out this year.
- 42:02Tony D.: It's on the ring to my head all year.
- 42:04Tony D.: It'll be my question.
- 42:05Carmen Lezeth: Anything, just wondering if you.
- 42:07Carmen Lezeth: There's a song.
- 42:08Tony D.: That's a good question.
- 42:09Tony D.: You got to give me a minute on that one.
- 42:10Tony D.: That's a good question.
- 42:11Tony D.: Any one particular song that came out to me this year?
- 42:15Carmen Lezeth: Oh, there's nothing about this year, but just affected you this year because I know Smile did not come out.
- 42:19Carmen Lezeth: I smiled and not come out this year.
- 42:20Carmen Lezeth: It's been out forever.
- 42:21Carmen Lezeth: What about you, rick?
- 42:23Rick Costa: That's a good question.
- 42:24Rick Costa: There's a shocking a gospel song called Praise by Elevation Worship and that pretty much how you are with Smile.
- 42:31Rick Costa: That song is with me and when I hear it, instant good mood, instant want to get up and dance a little bit and yeah, it's a real good question.
- 42:38Carmen Lezeth: Oh, you think it's too hard.
- 42:40Tony D.: Thank you for that, but what was also?
- 42:42Tony D.: I'm trying to get past the silk sonic music because they had a real big impact last year.
- 42:48Tony D.: Leave it to go through Bruno Mars and Anderson Pat.
- 42:54Carmen Lezeth: You know, that was a I thought you said.
- 42:56Carmen Lezeth: I thought you said soul sonic like soul sonic for no, silk sonic, silk sonic.
- 43:01Tony D.: They did a lead the door open and that was a very new song.
- 43:03Tony D.: That was good we did a love stream about Confunction.
- 43:06Carmen Lezeth: I thought that was a very good, that was really good too, I thought they did a good remake on it.
- 43:11Tony D.: I'm just trying to get past anything that had that kind of impact.
- 43:13Tony D.: I really can't.
- 43:14Tony D.: I got to go leave the door open.
- 43:15Tony D.: For the most part, I thought they did a damn good job, even if they did, they did outstanding.
- 43:19Carmen Lezeth: That was great, but you can't mess with a remake and and you have to do it well or it's just really bad.
- 43:26Carmen Lezeth: I've been going back and playing all the old Mary Mary albums.
- 43:30Carmen Lezeth: We talked about Mary J Blash.
- 43:32Rick Costa: No, it's a God I was.
- 43:33Carmen Lezeth: Mary, mary, oh, I don't know, mary.
- 43:35Rick Costa: Mary, I'll send you one song and you'll like it.
- 43:38Carmen Lezeth: And I'll like it OK, cool.
- 43:39Rick Costa: She'll probably go to me.
- 43:40Rick Costa: Maybe I'm thinking about the shackles.
- 43:43Rick Costa: Take the shackles off my feet.
- 43:45Rick Costa: I've heard it.
- 43:46Carmen Lezeth: I just don't always know all gospel artists.
- 43:49Carmen Lezeth: I don't really know them, but I do love gospel music.
- 43:53Tony D.: So it's on the best remake.
- 43:54Tony D.: Ok, I like that.
- 43:57Carmen Lezeth: It was really well done.
- 43:57Carmen Lezeth: I'm sorry, tony, what did you say?
- 43:59Tony D.: No, you're fine.
- 43:59Tony D.: I was saying I was trying to pull a rap music because I'm always bringing rapper, trying to get something that people will understand.
- 44:03Carmen Lezeth: OK, I have a question for you about rap.
- 44:05Carmen Lezeth: Melody said she just pulled up smile on YouTube.
- 44:07Carmen Lezeth: I like it.
- 44:08Carmen Lezeth: Oh, I think you would love it.
- 44:09Carmen Lezeth: It's so good and it's it just makes me so happy and every time I go running or walking or whatever I just like, if I need a little energy boost, it's right there.
- 44:18Carmen Lezeth: I have a question for you and Rick.
- 44:21Carmen Lezeth: I don't know if you go like this question or whatever, but I just want to ask him.
- 44:24Carmen Lezeth: I read an article.
- 44:25Carmen Lezeth: It was on the roots.
- 44:26Carmen Lezeth: The roots, you know the magazine the roots OK, it doesn't matter and they were talking about somebody wrote an article saying that Eminem could never be considered the best rapper.
- 44:37Rick Costa: I have a feeling about that.
- 44:38Carmen Lezeth: But they were just talking about it again, and the roots, just so everyone knows, is a fundamentally black written online.
- 44:49Carmen Lezeth: It's a great, great magazine or newspaper, whatever it's called the roots.
- 44:53Carmen Lezeth: So I just want to throw that up there.
- 44:54Carmen Lezeth: And here's the thing.
- 44:55Carmen Lezeth: I thought it was an interesting conversation.
- 44:57Carmen Lezeth: It is, and I don't know how I feel about it because, as I was coming, my first instinct was is that the world we want to live in?
- 45:03Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 45:04Carmen Lezeth: But as I was reading it, I was like, OK, I see what you saying.
- 45:09Tony D.: You know, I saw a clip from Dr Omar Johnson a couple of days ago.
- 45:13Tony D.: He spoke on it.
- 45:13Tony D.: They had the clip on there, yes, because he broke it down perfectly.
- 45:19Carmen Lezeth: OK, that's what the article was about, that's right.
- 45:21Tony D.: He broke it down perfectly and I have to agree.
- 45:23Tony D.: I'm going to say this, and let me just be me on this one Well, explain what he said, or explain this what he said was he can't be the greatest rapper.
- 45:31Tony D.: I'll go ahead and be controversial.
- 45:33Tony D.: He's now from our culture.
- 45:36Carmen Lezeth: Okay for people who don't know that might be listening to the podcast or we're watching.
- 45:41Carmen Lezeth: It's not like we have pictures of them.
- 45:43Carmen Lezeth: Eminem is a white rapper, but he is Brilliant, he is.
- 45:49Carmen Lezeth: Amazing and the fact that we even have to have this conversation tells you how Amazing he is as a rapper.
- 45:56Carmen Lezeth: So the controversy is is he has said in one of his rapping moments right he I don't know one of his lines or rhymes or whatever that he can never be considered the best rapper because of the culture and basically because he's not black.
- 46:12Tony D.: He acknowledges that that's the greatest thing about him and ever since day one, when you ever got on the ward, he gave credit and respect to everybody who came before him into all the videos.
- 46:22Tony D.: He will go down as a legend.
- 46:25Tony D.: Yes he will go down as a rap.
- 46:27Tony D.: God, let me be clear.
- 46:28Tony D.: Mm-hmm right black, whatever, he is one of the greatest and the best rappers ever.
- 46:33Tony D.: He just cannot be the greatest, but explain why.
- 46:37Tony D.: Because anybody who came after the originals took his style from the originals and we need to put this out there to everybody.
- 46:42Tony D.: Right now I'll do a rap conversation.
- 46:44Tony D.: You know that, right?
- 46:44Tony D.: Nobody a bunch of these rappers out here cannot rap better in kool moe D or chirbrook or big dedicated or rock n 4k.
- 46:50Tony D.: I was one alone.
- 46:51Tony D.: Fight me, I don't care, okay.
- 46:54Carmen Lezeth: All right, okay, but no one's gonna fight you because you know your music.
- 46:57Carmen Lezeth: But here's the question if I'm in, no, I'm asking you for god, my mixer Let me come on Head on now.
- 47:05Carmen Lezeth: Don't you have to go?
- 47:06Carmen Lezeth: Here's my question, here's my question.
- 47:10Carmen Lezeth: And I look at, I told you as we started, I Started agreeing as I was reading.
- 47:15Carmen Lezeth: I was like whatever I know.
- 47:17Carmen Lezeth: But here's the question Is he only not considered the best rapper Because of the color of his skin?
- 47:25Carmen Lezeth: And before you go forward, one last thing.
- 47:27Carmen Lezeth: You said he cannot be considered the best because of everyone who came before him.
- 47:30Carmen Lezeth: We don't do that with basketball.
- 47:32Carmen Lezeth: We don't say michael jordan can't be considered the best because we don't consider larry burrder, whoever, everybody else.
- 47:38Carmen Lezeth: Be right, okay, just no, I just just a little, just a little tiny.
- 47:46Rick Costa: More morsel, more more more does this come under the term cultural appropriation.
- 47:52Tony D.: It can't Um.
- 47:53Tony D.: This skin color is an issue.
- 47:55Carmen Lezeth: Look at george michael went through the same thing.
- 47:57Carmen Lezeth: But again, george michael, like m&m, always respected the culture and was always very empathetic and understood and he always Acknowledged where the music came from, what he learned, what he loved.
- 48:09Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 48:09Carmen Lezeth: And that's kind of the difference with white artists in in these genres.
- 48:13Carmen Lezeth: But go ahead All right, now I'm gonna be quiet.
- 48:15Tony D.: You can't even be the best white rapper.
- 48:17Tony D.: He has done some of the best work as a white rapper, but mc search was great before m&m Okay and mc search was up there most the originals for the most part.
- 48:27Carmen Lezeth: Okay, but is but tell me, is the only reason why m&m cannot?
- 48:32Tony D.: I can't deny it.
- 48:33Tony D.: I can't deny it.
- 48:33Tony D.: It's because it's skin color.
- 48:34Tony D.: Yes, I can't deny it is okay.
- 48:35Tony D.: And and and everybody.
- 48:37Tony D.: Now that everybody.
- 48:37Tony D.: They still call him the white boy, which is disrespectful.
- 48:40Tony D.: I can't lie.
- 48:41Tony D.: It is.
- 48:41Tony D.: Everybody knows who m&m is.
- 48:43Tony D.: Everybody knows how great he is and everybody knows how talented he is.
- 48:46Tony D.: The greatest suspect he has was he was a battle rapper, one of the major elements of being one of the best rappers ever.
- 48:51Carmen Lezeth: You got to be able to battle.
- 48:52Tony D.: You got to be able to battle rap and they found him as a battle rapper.
- 48:55Tony D.: He was a white kid, was killing fools as a battle rapper and that Freaking matters.
- 49:01Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia asked a great question.
- 49:02Carmen Lezeth: Isn't this the same as saying tiger woods can't be the best Gullfer because he's black, playing a mostly white game?
- 49:10Tony D.: It can be seen as that.
- 49:11Tony D.: Yes, and I understand all the controversy.
- 49:13Tony D.: I understand people who have a problem with it.
- 49:15Tony D.: You're not wrong.
- 49:15Tony D.: It cannot be denied, because 90% of your rappers were black.
- 49:19Tony D.: It was our culture.
- 49:21Tony D.: It started amongst the hardcore ghetto, lower income.
- 49:24Carmen Lezeth: Is this.
- 49:25Carmen Lezeth: Why, though, is this what that article said that you read with dr.
- 49:28Tony D.: I didn't read the article, I just listened to him.
- 49:29Tony D.: I listened to what he said about it.
- 49:31Tony D.: What he said, and this is what people don't know Dr Umar say he can't be one because he didn't start the culture.
- 49:35Tony D.: It's like if we go over to Palestine and try to take Old Palestinian ways, I'll never be a true Palestinian, or what they were doing.
- 49:41Carmen Lezeth: I don't know why you're throwing that in, but okay.
- 49:44Tony D.: This is.
- 49:44Tony D.: Those are his words.
- 49:46Carmen Lezeth: Oh, he brought a palisthenic.
- 49:48Tony D.: Oh my god, what he did is put himself in a different culture, coming into a different culture.
- 49:52Tony D.: I got in there, so that's the example for m&m and let's be clear, he has hung with some of the greatest rappers out there Any and every rapper Kendrick from more what's the arms, and I'll put what's women's name from McKinsey City Tech nine.
- 50:09Tony D.: I'll give you these until he defeats twister.
- 50:13Tony D.: In my opinion, he can't even go down top five Because really, twister was rapping fast before him, church was rapping fast before him.
- 50:22Carmen Lezeth: Okay, but wait, but wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 50:24Carmen Lezeth: There are people that I mean no one ever brings up all these other names when they talk about m&m, but you're saying it is really just color.
- 50:31Carmen Lezeth: You still know, white rapper could be.
- 50:33Carmen Lezeth: No, white rapper could be the best.
- 50:36Tony D.: No, even search wasn't the best and search, I think it's better than m&m, because he came out doing what m&m did 10, 10, 15 years Okay but can you, would you agree and I'm asking because you know this genre better than anyone, I know, right.
- 50:49Carmen Lezeth: So I respect what you have to say about it, so you do understand that that that is bad.
- 50:55Tony D.: It can't be bad.
- 50:56Tony D.: But we didn't know when hip-hop started.
- 50:58Tony D.: It started from black artists in the ghetto.
- 51:01Tony D.: Everybody can acknowledge that Just stereotype wasn't necessarily white people in the ghetto right.
- 51:07Tony D.: That's just.
- 51:08Tony D.: That was the origin.
- 51:09Tony D.: Now, anybody who came afterwards emulated, gave honor, respect, did what we did or didn't, and stole it.
- 51:16Tony D.: Let's be honest m&m has been accused of stealing it, but people will like.
- 51:22Tony D.: No no, my understanding, my understanding specifically, was he rapped.
- 51:27Tony D.: He would get in rap battles.
- 51:29Tony D.: He was winning.
- 51:30Tony D.: They wanted to bring him up.
- 51:31Tony D.: Even d12 will say he didn't want to do, he didn't want to go solo, he wanted to bring the group.
- 51:34Tony D.: The group was like no, go get it.
- 51:36Tony D.: So he had his respect from his people.
- 51:38Tony D.: That's how you get respect in the game when people respect you.
- 51:40Tony D.: You good.
- 51:40Tony D.: You ever notice a rapper doesn't get respect to get slammed, it's destroyed.
- 51:44Tony D.: I hear you and m&m and I gotta go.
- 51:48Tony D.: M&m is dope.
- 51:50Carmen Lezeth: Yeah.
- 51:52Tony D.: You have your favorite song that's on the radio.
- 51:54Tony D.: One of my favorite songs from him was rain man.
- 51:56Tony D.: That mess was Hilarious, it's amazing.
- 51:58Carmen Lezeth: You know what I'll just tell you because I mean I love old school rap, right, and I'm talking about because of, well, I guess we're all kind of the same age, but I'm not talking about today's rappers, I'm always talking about, like you know what I mean, so sonic force, you know?
- 52:19Carmen Lezeth: You know what I'm talking about, the old school stuff.
- 52:22Brian M.: But I just hope we get to a place someday.
- 52:25Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I hope we get to a place someday where Music.
- 52:31Tony D.: Carmen, you're not wrong.
- 52:35Carmen Lezeth: Why are you so loud?
- 52:36Carmen Lezeth: Why are you so hot, ted?
- 52:38Tony D.: I don't know, your, your mic is way too high, you're not wrong that we need to bring it down, but any and everybody who has come in no.
- 52:48Carmen Lezeth: I just knocked you down a bit.
- 52:50Carmen Lezeth: Go ahead, Tony.
- 52:50Tony D.: I want to say the people that came into the industry wrong, or the ones who were getting checked and he didn't come in wrong.
- 52:55Tony D.: Yeah, okay, and you, you can take the skin color element out of it.
- 52:57Tony D.: We'll look at you for who you are because, you gotta remember, you had Japanese rappers daylight, so was one of the first groups that was bringing out Jeff.
- 53:05Tony D.: I loved daylight, so we did that on their baloney, my, I feel baloney my state out.
- 53:09Tony D.: I remember that because I've been watching hip hop since the beginning.
- 53:11Tony D.: For those of you that don't know, I am an old school hip hop honey, I think everybody knows.
- 53:16Brian M.: I had a crush on Spinderella, Nina cherry and MC light From England yeah, um, all of us who judge hip hop, we judge it from the original old school level.
- 53:29Tony D.: So we may seem wrong to people nowadays, to those who are, 2030 is younger than us, but those of us who are the originals, who remember vocabulary- oh, I'm just saying because I can see a lot of people.
- 53:43Tony D.: He only we told my Eminem Eminem was not the greatest Eminem, okay.
- 53:48Carmen Lezeth: Okay, okay.
- 53:49Tony D.: I'm an M M, m M Couldn't beat your rock of this prompt M&M.
- 53:51Tony D.: Did you start this fight?
- 53:53Tony D.: What's happening?
- 53:54Carmen Lezeth: here I missed something.
- 53:55Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I'll finish, I'll stop.
- 53:57Tony D.: Yeah, tony you go, I like we we got it.
- 53:59Carmen Lezeth: We got it Okay.
- 54:00Carmen Lezeth: Mc light oh, I loved Queen Latifah.
- 54:01Carmen Lezeth: That's when.
- 54:02Carmen Lezeth: I I mean, you know, you and I T1.
- 54:04Carmen Lezeth: That was a first-rate and third album.
- 54:10Tony D.: You know what?
- 54:10Carmen Lezeth: I loved her because we didn't have Anybody to look up to who is a woman?
- 54:14Carmen Lezeth: Do a rap?
- 54:15Carmen Lezeth: Yes, you did.
- 54:16Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, mc light, well, but Queen Latifah?
- 54:18Tony D.: was easier to take in for me at the time right it was.
- 54:21Carmen Lezeth: it became commercial, it was easier to take in and you could walk through that you know so.
- 54:25Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, um, we feel about Elvis oh no, what are you doing?
- 54:31Carmen Lezeth: I'm about to close up shop here Because I've seen a lot of people say like he took hot music and then he took the music and then so.
- 54:44Brian M.: One song.
- 54:45Carmen Lezeth: I have nothing to say about Elvis.
- 54:47Tony D.: That people I did see the movie Um.
- 54:51Rick Costa: I haven't.
- 54:53Tony D.: I ain't talking about the movie the artist.
- 54:55Tony D.: Y'all can have it.
- 54:56Tony D.: I mean Not me.
- 54:59Carmen Lezeth: So, rick, from my point of view, when I was growing up so my mother used to listen to certain music, right, and I remember it in the back of my head and it was like Engelbert Humphreydink, I remember these names Elvis Presley, I remember Neil Diamond, so I remember this stuff and one of the things that was hard about Elvis Presley was, no matter if a song came on his or whatever, the comment would be made well, he stole our music, like.
- 55:27Carmen Lezeth: So, even as I was younger and I don't remember much about my mom, but I always remember the undertone, like because you would listen to it on the radio, whatever, and the music you would dance to it or whatever, but you would, you know what I mean.
- 55:40Carmen Lezeth: They would you're doing your thing, but there would be that under breath, that.
- 55:42Carmen Lezeth: But I hate it because there was something wrong with the stories behind Elvis.
- 55:49Carmen Lezeth: But I was a kid.
- 55:50Rick Costa: Is there any parallels or similarities between the Elvis situation and Eminem?
- 55:54Rick Costa: Situation?
- 55:54Rick Costa: No, no.
- 55:56Carmen Lezeth: George Michael Eminem.
- 55:58Carmen Lezeth: There was certain artists I'm just gonna say my piece on this, Tony who respect the culture, even if they are in it and using it, and they give due diligence, respect to the culture, and I think that's part of the problem.
- 56:13Carmen Lezeth: It's kind of like what's the guy from Hoody and the Blowfish?
- 56:16Carmen Lezeth: I forget his real name Darian Shrugger.
- 56:18Carmen Lezeth: You know he's doing country music.
- 56:20Carmen Lezeth: He's been doing it for a long time but he's not disrespected.
- 56:22Tony D.: He didn't walk in there and disrespect the culture you know they loved him and they were like come on.
- 56:27Carmen Lezeth: And he's amazing man.
- 56:28Carmen Lezeth: I don't listen to country music, but you know, like I was just saying, Hoody and Blowfish was great.
- 56:33Brian M.: I mean Darian Shrugger doing his.
- 56:34Brian M.: I mean like I have three albums of his on country.
- 56:37Carmen Lezeth: Yeah.
- 56:37Brian M.: I didn't know he had to.
- 56:38Carmen Lezeth: It's kind of the same thing.
- 56:39Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 56:40Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, wasn't it good that George Michael documentary was good way out?
- 56:43Tony D.: That's the piece of that dude.
- 56:44Tony D.: Because he was talented, he could sing his butt off and he made the music you talking about.
- 56:49Tony D.: George Michael.
- 56:49Tony D.: Yes, George Michael made great music.
- 56:50Carmen Lezeth: He did that song.
- 56:51Carmen Lezeth: He's been one of my favorites.
- 56:52Tony D.: I love it Until the day, it was until the day of always, him and Mary J Blythe.
- 56:56Tony D.: We made a Stevie Wonder song.
- 56:58Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, as yeah it was good.
- 57:01Carmen Lezeth: But he also did that song with Whitney Houston.
- 57:04Carmen Lezeth: I mean he did a song with Aretha Franklin, I mean.
- 57:06Tony D.: He didn't say who he worked with Big Upson but more importantly, they allowed him to work with him.
- 57:11Carmen Lezeth: Stevie Wonder too, you know what I mean, Like Aretha Franklin's, like I'll be like come here, white man.
- 57:16Carmen Lezeth: And she did it, you know, and that was how he broke away from Wham Not that he needed to break away, but that was kind of how he was, but they was gonna do something with Wham as well, because they had three songs that were phenomenal off the rip.
- 57:29Carmen Lezeth: He didn't need nobody Okay but have you ever gone back and watched?
- 57:33Carmen Lezeth: Like when they first started Wham, they had their rap song.
- 57:37Carmen Lezeth: It's hilarious.
- 57:38Carmen Lezeth: They were kids, Never heard it.
- 57:40Carmen Lezeth: Oh, it's way before they got famous and it's how they started.
- 57:44Carmen Lezeth: It's them rapping and I will have to send you the links because it's so wrong.
- 57:50Tony D.: But so fun.
- 57:51Tony D.: If I have one in the moments I have, why get mad at you Like I got mad at Rick?
- 57:54Tony D.: I'm gonna find you.
- 57:57Carmen Lezeth: The way, I'm right.
- 57:58Carmen Lezeth: I remember when I was really young and I was always singing George Michael.
- 58:01Carmen Lezeth: So you know what I still sing, george.
- 58:03Carmen Lezeth: My three favorite artists of all time is Prince George Michael, aretha Franklin and Freddie Mercury Queen, so I guess four.
- 58:12Tony D.: Three favorite artists of all time.
- 58:13Tony D.: That's a good question.
- 58:14Tony D.: What that's a good question?
- 58:16Tony D.: Three favorite artists of all time.
- 58:17Carmen Lezeth: Those of mine four.
- 58:19Tony D.: I'm gonna go Lufa Luther Vandross.
- 58:22Carmen Lezeth: Yes.
- 58:22Tony D.: Lufa Stephanie Mills for her voice.
- 58:27Carmen Lezeth: Oh, that's old school.
- 58:29Tony D.: Now I'm a really dig, Somebody who had a voice that never got enough credit David Piston.
- 58:33Carmen Lezeth: I don't know who is this.
- 58:35Tony D.: A song called.
- 58:37Carmen Lezeth: Can.
- 58:37Tony D.: I Sing.
- 58:37Tony D.: I can't no sing, I'm gonna go all over.
- 58:42Tony D.: What's the man's name from Earth, wind, and Fire?
- 58:44Tony D.: He's still singing now.
- 58:45Tony D.: Philip Bailey for their voices.
- 58:48Carmen Lezeth: Their voices.
- 58:49Carmen Lezeth: Ok, that's fair.
- 58:49Carmen Lezeth: We take a week, we're in your time.
- 58:51Ted Hicks: I just didn't close out, because your time is my time.
- 58:54Ted Hicks: This is.
- 58:57Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, my time.
- 58:58Carmen Lezeth: I see what you're doing, my man.
- 59:01Carmen Lezeth: This is the last time I'm inviting you, though, baby, I see what you did there.
- 59:07Carmen Lezeth: I see what you did there.
- 59:11Ted Hicks: I just truthfully, I just want to get all the viewers prepped and ready February when you go on vacation and oh it's.
- 59:21Carmen Lezeth: February now.
- 59:22Carmen Lezeth: Ok, I'm going to February.
- 59:24Carmen Lezeth: Ok, actually, I've already planned it with Rick, that I'm actually where I am.
- 59:29Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to You're still in the pot.
- 59:32Tony D.: You're still in the pot, don't fall for it.
- 59:33Carmen Lezeth: OK, sorry, thank you, thank you, tony.
- 59:35Carmen Lezeth: Thank you, thank you.
- 59:36Carmen Lezeth: Thank you, tony.
- 59:37Brian M.: Thank you, Tony.
- 59:38Carmen Lezeth: With that said, I'm going to end the show.
- 59:39Carmen Lezeth: Thank you everyone for stopping by.
