- 1:37Hey, Lynn. Hello everyone, welcome back to
- 1:38another episode of the random heat and ramblings podcast.
- 1:41Thanks for tuning in today, on whatever day it is that you're
- 1:45catching this. Hopefully you're catching it the
- 1:47day that it premieres, Thursday mornings, as you can tell by my
- 1:51appearance. I am not in my genuine get up as
- 1:55I normally am. I went out for dinner tonight
- 1:58with it was my father fathers-in-law.
- 2:04I guess that's the possessive turn, right.
- 2:05It's his birthday. You can't say father-in-law's
- 2:09because there's not multiple laws.
- 2:10It's my father's in-law birthday.
- 2:14So happy birthday, Ronnie. Love you, of course by the time
- 2:17this airs, it's the day after, but I'm recording this now
- 2:20coming back late at night from having dinner and I you know
- 2:25didn't want to change or whatever.
- 2:27So this is what you see is what you got.
- 2:30And so yeah. Going to be a terribly long
- 2:35episode today, which might be beneficial for the algorithms
- 2:39for the all this kind of stuff. I don't know, but noticing less
- 2:44engagement on the podcast as of late.
- 2:47And I don't know if that's just because of YouTube or the the,
- 2:52the Spotify Platforms in the others, but I know it is what it
- 2:58is. I like to get the engagement
- 3:01during the during the premier's, especially here on YouTube.
- 3:06So I'll take a poll. I might take a poll if you guys
- 3:10check out the YouTube channel and see if I need to start
- 3:13uploading these at a different time.
- 3:15So that way you can catch them when they're live.
- 3:17Like when they Premier life, I'm up for that.
- 3:19I'm up for considering that so we shall see but today's episode
- 3:25is going to be focused on a topic of discussion that came in
- 3:29as a Answer to a question that I posted earlier in the day.
- 3:34I didn't get it out to Twitter or YouTube, but I did post it on
- 3:38Facebook and Instagram. Just asking what should we
- 3:40ramble on about today? And it's going to be from my
- 3:45good friend and brother JM all of a sudden and you guys should
- 3:50be familiar with him by now as much as I've featured him on the
- 3:55podcast and talked about his work and we have a dedicated
- 3:59place. Playlist on the YouTube channel
- 4:01and midgard, musings YouTube channel, to his drumming and
- 4:05shamanic ritual drums, rattles. Things like that.
- 4:10Kind of, it's like a music little playlist or whatever, but
- 4:12it's all is handmade items that are used in songs or drumming
- 4:19meditation. Mainly one really call it a
- 4:21song. It's more like, drumming
- 4:22meditation. So, check that out.
- 4:25It's a playlist on the midgard musings YouTube channel and So
- 4:30he's the responder that we're going to be facing today's
- 4:34podcast, this week's episode on. But before we do get started as
- 4:39as we started to reintroduce, the tradition of burning
- 4:43incense, this one is going to be the mugwort.
- 4:46We're going to do mugwort today. So let's get that man.
- 4:52Pajama going. Hope you're all doing.
- 4:58Well. I appreciate all of you all your
- 5:00kindness, all your support. Yeah.
- 5:05There we go. It's still kind of off in the D
- 5:09stance there. Smells good.
- 5:15Speaking of incense. My wife was going through a
- 5:18bunch of her things today and she's got a lot of incense lot
- 5:23of different Aromas and I have acquired a bunch of ones that
- 5:27she had gotten over the years or recently, I guess.
- 5:30And like I don't really prefer these.
- 5:32I just got them because they were, you know, there was a good
- 5:34deal going, they were on sale. So I got like some I got Pine.
- 5:38I got Cedar. Or clove this the kind of stuff
- 5:44that I like. So we're going to have plenty of
- 5:46instance to burn for quite some time and you know, get a chance
- 5:52to enjoy all that. So shout out to my wife as well
- 5:54for being thoughtful and sharing in The Spoils of esoteric
- 6:00shopping sprees. We she or we have gone on.
- 6:05So like I said, today's episode, I did, I kind of just reached
- 6:10out to people Post on Facebook and Instagram to ask, you know
- 6:14what you guys want to. Hear us ramble on about today.
- 6:18And the topic that we're going to talk about is the concepts of
- 6:24the inner and outer jams response, to the question of
- 6:29what we should ramble on about. I'm just going to read his
- 6:31response verbatim is the Rings or levels of, you know, God and
- 6:38shooting guard. And if you're not familiar with
- 6:40those terms will get into the We'll get into that in a minute
- 6:43in a minute, but it says the talk about the Rings, / levels
- 6:47of England, garlic and Putin Garden tribe Life as a community
- 6:51Dynamic, versus the dynamic of greater or larger Community.
- 6:57He says, I see a lot of young folk or those newer to this path
- 7:01and way of life, confused, and getting hurt feelings or
- 7:06believing. Oh, sorry, he says a way of
- 7:10life. Confused and getting hurt
- 7:14feeling or believing kinship is a given or expected based solely
- 7:22on the one thing known to be shared or in common, that being
- 7:27Norse paganism. so I get where he's coming from and I know and
- 7:36I know what he's talking about, and I've actually had a Rather,
- 7:40similar thing kind of take place.
- 7:42I talked about this a little bit last week.
- 7:44As a matter of fact, in terms of defining barriers, maintaining
- 7:48the sovereignty of Hearth amongst tribe and all that sort
- 7:53of thing. And it's interesting that that's
- 7:55the response that JM gives because I've since last week
- 7:58have had conversations with, not just JM, but others, and of a
- 8:05trusted status in my life to just, you know, talk through
- 8:10things. like this, you know, when you get into Sharing time
- 8:14and space and energy and whether it be ritual or whether it be,
- 8:19you know, just anything, just sharing time with people.
- 8:23Sometimes the barriers that you had set at one time.
- 8:28You know, what you talk about? What you don't talk about those
- 8:31lines. Kind of get muddled a bit and
- 8:34the lines aren't quietly aren't quite so defined, the more you
- 8:38get to know some people and lines get crossed and there,
- 8:42there's an Thing, I think to be reminded of is, you know,
- 8:46maintaining sovereignty of things that should be Sovereign
- 8:49for instance. The Hearth, the home, people's
- 8:51lives in the home and, and other things as well.
- 8:55So, what to what James response was about the various Rings or
- 9:00levels, as he puts it of the in and guard in Newton guard
- 9:04concept now, so for a lot of people that are listening to
- 9:08this podcast and I have been following me for any length of
- 9:10time and have been Heathen or Pagan for any length of time,
- 9:12the concept of of the of the inner yard and the outer yard,
- 9:16especially in the like Germanic Heathen approach to things is,
- 9:22should be a very familiar idea. The words themselves are an
- 9:26exceptionally old that I can recall, but and I don't even
- 9:29think they're found in any of the primary sources, but the
- 9:35meaning behind it. What the the sense behind them
- 9:37all is, you know, even guard in and yard mutant yard shooting
- 9:42guard. Is the inner and outer yards and
- 9:45what is within the yard is? So, it's sacred.
- 9:52There. There's a, there's a degree of
- 9:53sacredness that exists within the yard, because, again, it's
- 9:57that Sovereign separation of what is outside of the yard.
- 10:01What is without is outside of our control and it does not have
- 10:06our ruling and what is within does.
- 10:09And so, but, you know, the levels, the Rings, what is in a
- 10:13guard? Who are those that fall within
- 10:16your in and guard are there different levels of in a garden?
- 10:19I think Understand what Jam is talking about in referring to.
- 10:22So we're going to kind of dive a little bit into that today.
- 10:26So some of the things that I think we should be reminded of
- 10:32is whenever we talk about tribe kindred's, the terms, kind of
- 10:42get I guess used in a way that would suggest that they're one
- 10:52in the same. A tribe is just a kindred can do
- 10:54is just to try that. He had yada and while I
- 10:56understand that and I've come to realize they are a bit
- 11:00different. So like a kindred is is is is is
- 11:04the There's a lot of familial connotations that can write,
- 11:10Kane is family Kindred. It's like a family units.
- 11:13Very churchy in a way that the structure I guess could be.
- 11:17Could be the resembling that of what a church organization, or
- 11:21church structure church family might have, you know, where
- 11:24there are many people that assembled at that believe in the
- 11:30same thing that go to the same thing to do the same thing, or
- 11:32very similar things and have a Analogy and have a kinship tie
- 11:37to one another and that their group, their Kindred as it were
- 11:43is, is based largely and grossly on familial bonds, right?
- 11:53And I think That when you start getting into, when you start
- 11:59getting into that, then there has to be checks and balances
- 12:04set in place. There has to be things.
- 12:05That one is to be worth two on to decide or to determine are
- 12:13they worthy of this title? Are they worthy of being kind of
- 12:17allowed into that, you know, inner yard.
- 12:23And that's it. There's like it's you're either
- 12:25in the Kindred or your without the Kindred and and that's the
- 12:28line. That's the layer.
- 12:29That's the barrier. There's there's you're either in
- 12:30or you're out. So and then I think with when
- 12:36you come to like tribe tribe is like Multiple.
- 12:45Kindred's multiple. Clans multiple family units
- 12:49within a community, you know, there are within a society as it
- 12:55were that it's you know, you've got a tribe that is made up of
- 12:57multiple families and just because this family is friends
- 13:01with that family, doesn't mean that, you know, let's say we
- 13:04got, you know, Joe and Todd and Craig, you know, just because
- 13:08Joe and Todd's family are kin to each other.
- 13:11Doesn't necessarily mean that Craig is a part of that group or
- 13:15that kinship as it. But they are still part of that
- 13:19tribe, right? They are still members of the
- 13:23tribe as it were. So they there's there's a
- 13:26there's an added layer or an added ring to that Dynamic, to
- 13:31that group dynamic. So what we see a lot of times
- 13:35happening with the pagans that come into Norris, Heathen re is
- 13:42this, and it's probably mostly due to Christian baggage that
- 13:48they bring from a previous religion or or another religion.
- 13:51Maybe not just Christianity, but I want to use Christianity as
- 13:53the as the main one because that's the that's the one that a
- 13:56lot of folks come from into into paganism is is this, you know,
- 14:04Underlying feeling that we'll just because we all believe in
- 14:08the same gods. And goddesses that we are now
- 14:10inherently. Brethren.
- 14:12We are kin We are family now. and, That's not really the case,
- 14:18not in the societal structure of the of tribal Heathen rewrite,
- 14:23just because we all believe in Odin or Thor.
- 14:26And freyr, and Freya and, you know, frigg and the other gods
- 14:30are minor met lesser or major gods of Germanic mythology in
- 14:35the been. Those Pantheon's just because we
- 14:37have that commonality does not make uh, skin doesn't make us
- 14:42family doesn't make us Brethren. Doesn't have we are you know,
- 14:46and just Because of that, it does not mean that I am
- 14:51obligated to show you any sort of grand gestures of Love
- 14:59Hospitality or anything like that.
- 15:03And so what I think J M is referring to is, is how Younger
- 15:09heathens, you know, the Newbie heathens folks that are coming
- 15:11into this thing. Kind of fresh coming into it.
- 15:15With that mindset coming into it, thinking that, well, I
- 15:17believe in Odin, I believe in Thor, you know, I, you know, I
- 15:20sacrificed to the vet here. I do this, I do that, you know,
- 15:24I have rooms. I wear a hammer, right?
- 15:28Just because those commonalities exist that that all of a sudden
- 15:31makes you part of the family, you know, and you get hurt when
- 15:37stuff like that happens because if there are, you know, groups
- 15:41out there that Our bit to open with their placing of familial
- 15:50Bonds on people if there if there aren't enough checks.
- 15:52And balances, if it's not guarded closely and protected,
- 15:56you know, Garland protected I think are the words that I'm I'm
- 15:59thinking of here if they're not if it's not done in that sort of
- 16:02way, then you run the risk of painting and and damaging and
- 16:07spoiling the well, you know, the the collective area Luck and all
- 16:15that settles into. And I've seen this, I've
- 16:20experienced stuff like this even recently, where again, like when
- 16:25you have families who have, you know, started and based their
- 16:31tribal growth off of close familial bonds, you know, like
- 16:37we, you know, the founding members of a of a tribe or over
- 16:41this or Kindred of whatever you want to call it is Is is they
- 16:45are they're considered Brothers amongst themselves brothers
- 16:47sisters. They have familial bonds because
- 16:49of things that they've done. They've worth themselves to each
- 16:51other to the degree. That they consider themselves
- 16:57kin. They may not be blood.
- 17:00So maybe it's more like a kith thing where you're you know,
- 17:03adopted or worth tour oath to into that familial title or into
- 17:09that, you know, familial place. But with those, with those
- 17:15things comes a lot of responsibility, you know, and if
- 17:17you're, if you're to open with that and if you just kind of be
- 17:20like, oh, yeah, you know, you've read the Hall of them all when
- 17:23you, you know, all this kind of stuff about the gods, you know,
- 17:27all these things about the gods. You've heard XYZ sagas, you
- 17:30know, you've done all this academic work, but I roll your
- 17:33you know, your brother to me now you run the risk of getting hurt
- 17:38and and This also is as a bit rampant with regards to the like
- 17:45online, even re online community.
- 17:48There's a false sense in there. Has been a false sense of
- 17:51kinship that exists in a lot of these Facebook groups and things
- 17:58where people are always just tossing out the name, you know,
- 18:01brother sister this and that and I get called, you know, I get I
- 18:08get called, you know, bro. Other a lot by people who I
- 18:10don't consider my brother and it's I know it's out of, you
- 18:14know, respect. I know it's out of adoration.
- 18:18I know it's out of, it's all in good intent.
- 18:20You like there's all these as going to and it doesn't hurt my
- 18:22feelings to be called that. Just don't expect me to
- 18:25reciprocate in that way. Because I don't know you like
- 18:29that. And we don't, we haven't gotten
- 18:31down like that, man. Like, we haven't done things
- 18:33enough with each other for, for us, to be, for me to consider
- 18:38you were To give that title. It's nothing against you.
- 18:41Personally. It's just that we haven't done
- 18:43those things enough to to Warrant it, right?
- 18:47So the layers, the layers, the Rings, the in and guard guard.
- 18:53Any God, who'd and guard his inner yard, outer yard.
- 18:55It's constant. It's conceptual, and it's very
- 18:58prominent in Heathen, World Views where what is within is
- 19:04sacred? And what is without his, while
- 19:06it is, uncontrollable? It's chaotic.
- 19:09And there's there's distance in Newton guard outside of the yard
- 19:14outside of the circle, you know, outside of your inner circle
- 19:17that the further you get away from it, you know, the worse it
- 19:20gets the, the more dangerous it becomes and I've I've compared
- 19:29it to, you know, you can be friends with somebody.
- 19:32You can, they can be close to you.
- 19:34They can be, you know, good. People, you know, acquaintances
- 19:40friends, whatever but they're not inner, they're not going to
- 19:43learn, you wouldn't drop what you're doing on a dime to go
- 19:48help them. You know, if the phone rings in
- 19:50the middle of the night and you're not going to answer it if
- 19:53they send you a message on Facebook or Twitter or whatever
- 19:57and they ask you a question, you know, you might wait till the
- 20:00next day to respond or whatever r as well as with those that are
- 20:03within, you know, and in your inner yard and guard that that's
- 20:07going to. Those are the those are the
- 20:09types of People that you would be much more inclined to shift
- 20:14and pivot to help them when they need it, or answer their
- 20:16questions or respond to their messages, you know, more timely
- 20:20as soon as you see them and then going back until like the outer
- 20:26yard of the outer area, you know.
- 20:28There there there's those that are so far outside of that outer
- 20:31yard that are not even your friends.
- 20:32They have done things to betray trust and betray and break
- 20:37frith, and they In turn, become Beyond what's outer?
- 20:41And they have become Neath. They have become Outlaw.
- 20:45They are, they are, you know, you see them, you wouldn't, you
- 20:50wouldn't piss on them. If they were on fire sort of
- 20:53thing, you know, so there's those layers, there's those
- 20:56layers of what is without. And there's also those layers
- 20:59that are within to kind of come back to that, you know, just
- 21:02because you're within that inner yard, doesn't necessarily mean
- 21:05that you're going to know and should know everything about
- 21:08that person's. Yard is I said before?
- 21:13You know, I've, I've had that experience myself where the
- 21:16foundation of my tribe was built and has been built so strongly
- 21:20on. Kinship ties and then in
- 21:24familial type things that you know, you over-shared.
- 21:28Sometimes you you get to knowing too much about a person and even
- 21:32though they are your can't even though you love them as as as
- 21:35though. They were your blood there are
- 21:40you know, there's got to be careful with that because it can
- 21:44it can definitely impact the growth of the tribe as it as it
- 21:47was as it were. Because again, the tribe is not
- 21:49only what is within that. In person's heart, that one
- 21:52person's family. That'll one person's roof-tree.
- 21:54And the roof tree might have, you know, a canopy that that
- 21:58branches and extends out Beyond just the immediate Hut or the
- 22:02immediate home life, like for us, you know, like my roof tree
- 22:06is myself, my wife and her parents, you know, but my the
- 22:11canopy extends beyond that a bit into, you know, some of my
- 22:15tribesmen right now, so but not all not all of them and not to
- 22:20the same degree. So and as the tribe grows and as
- 22:25Things become more and more established and organically
- 22:31builds out from where it has started.
- 22:33It is very important to maintain that approach.
- 22:36I feel because again, if you just get to know a bit too much
- 22:39about everybody in their home, life in there and it taints the
- 22:44sovereignty of the Hearth, so, For those that are, you know,
- 22:51newbie heathens that are coming into this and feeling as though
- 22:54they are, you know, family to people, be very careful.
- 23:02First of all, with Going around and and just calling people
- 23:07titles of kinship, you know, just because you join a Facebook
- 23:11group, just because you join a Discord server.
- 23:13Just because you become part of some sort of online Forum where
- 23:18there are other folks that say, you know, hailed the Gotham
- 23:21where Hammers and can can say a few things from the hover ball
- 23:25in Old Norse or whatever, whatever commonalities that you
- 23:27have. Just because that exist and just
- 23:30because that's their does not entitle them to any titles of
- 23:35kinship, nor does it entitle you to be referred to as a tendon in
- 23:43titles of kinship? It doesn't now, you know, some
- 23:48people might, you know, kind of look at this and go.
- 23:52Well, you know, hold on a minute, you know, because we're
- 23:55all we're all brothers and we're all. under the same, you know,
- 24:01like animism, you know, like we're all Brothers of the earth
- 24:03were all, we're all children of the earth, you know, and I get
- 24:06that in the sense that, you know, we all kind of have that
- 24:11Primal connection to The land and and and and how we connect
- 24:18with the spirits around us the the VA tear the whites that
- 24:23share space with us in the profane, but what, you know,
- 24:28what I'm specifically talking about is, you know, societal
- 24:31structure the way that we grow as he then sat on the grass at
- 24:36the Grassroots level. you know, just because we got two arms and
- 24:44two legs, and You know love the sagas and read The Hub mug and
- 24:50all that stuff does not entitle anybody to a title of of that
- 24:56kinship. So, you know, for those that are
- 25:01new going into your keys and rain going into your your Pagan
- 25:04Journeys, it's not to say that. You know, I do.
- 25:08You know, and again it's one of those things where I sit back
- 25:10and I go well, I'm not the one to tell you how to Heathen look.
- 25:13If you feel comfortable with calling somebody that or we or
- 25:16they're calling you that and you want to reciprocate that's up to
- 25:19you man. Like that's your haul, your
- 25:22call. It's your life, you do what you
- 25:23want to do and I always say, you know, your hall your call, not
- 25:27my whole not Mike. That is not a original quote by
- 25:30myself. That is a 100%.
- 25:31Eric shervin the word Weaver over the Ravens call that is
- 25:35100% his. We call it Mantra.
- 25:40I guess that's his phrase. So but it means it's at
- 25:48everything about that is, it's simple, it's to the point, but
- 25:51it means exactly what it says. It's, you know, not my, not my
- 25:54problem, that my dance, my haul, not my call, you know.
- 25:59Not my potatoes, not my gravy. I don't know.
- 26:01Get a little bit silly with it. But the point is, is if it's
- 26:05that's what you want to do then boo, boo.
- 26:08You do you the same time, take it from somebody who's not the
- 26:14oldest person of, you know, know I'm not the leading Authority on
- 26:17anything. I'm not a, you know, allsup
- 26:20opentype. I'm not the, you know, person to
- 26:23tell you how to Heathen, how you want to eat them, or tell you
- 26:27how to pay, and how you a pagan. I'm somebody who's done
- 26:30something for enough length of the time that I have that.
- 26:33I've got am getting more experience.
- 26:36And I have A valid thing to say about this and if I've seen, you
- 26:43know, even if I've experienced things in a certain way that I
- 26:46want to share that, and I want to what's the word I'm looking
- 26:50for expound on this and I want to edify as the word I was
- 26:55looking for. I want to edify you and take
- 26:59what I say and just try it out and see.
- 27:02Right. Okay.
- 27:03Well, I'm going to go back into this Facebook group tomorrow and
- 27:05instead of saying Halen good morning brothers and sisters of
- 27:08Midgard. You know, maybe not, maybe I
- 27:14have a different view on things, then maybe have a different
- 27:16approach on things. Maybe have a clearer view on
- 27:18things. Because again, once you start
- 27:20opening yourself up to this, I'm your brother.
- 27:22You're my sister. Let's all be one, big, happy,
- 27:24Pagan, family, kind of thing. There's this x, there's this
- 27:29sense of entitlement. There's an almost, an
- 27:31expectation that's being set. And you go.
- 27:34Well, I can't believe that, you know, they unfriended me.
- 27:36I can't believe they said this about this or I can't believe
- 27:39they believe. You know, this particular way
- 27:43they were my brother. There might, they weren't, you
- 27:46know, not unless they've done enough and worth themselves
- 27:50through it. You know, I'll just, you know,
- 27:53go out here and use examples. I've known Well, let's let's
- 28:01let's go back to, you know, kind of where I started with my
- 28:05Heathen re. I've known my tribal Brothers
- 28:08for probably the biggest part of six going on, seven years.
- 28:16But we didn't just start calling each other, brother off the rip,
- 28:20you know what I mean? Like, we have to know.
- 28:22I think I'd the first time I started calling Bingo brother
- 28:27was was probably a good year or more into our friendship, you
- 28:31know what I mean? And it wasn't even Heathen or
- 28:34that brought us together. It was, it was local music
- 28:35scene. He played in a band.
- 28:37I was at a show. A dog is stuff, you know, we
- 28:40started talking about that found commonalities with kinds of
- 28:44music that we like the kind of culture that we got into, you
- 28:46know, and then and then next thing you know, it's all I see
- 28:48he's wearing a hammer and he noticed I was wearing mine and
- 28:52you know start talking about runes and the lore and the gods
- 28:55and all this kind of stuff and then, you know, the more we
- 28:58became friends. We establish that first we were
- 29:02friends and then the more we hung out and what we'd started
- 29:06actually engaging in things of worth with each other, you know,
- 29:10being there that with each other at each other side, partaking in
- 29:13ritual together helping each other out, you know, in various
- 29:19ways things that worth ourselves to each other, to comfortably
- 29:26start calling each other brother.
- 29:28And it was a thing. Thing that we learned amongst
- 29:31ourselves, you know that we've even talked about this when he's
- 29:34been on this podcast before about how you know, that that
- 29:37that title of kinship didn't just come right off of the rip.
- 29:42Now. Let's compare the same thing
- 29:44where I talked about him and have talked about them on almost
- 29:48every podcast. Eric shervin, right?
- 29:50Eric is another Heathen, who I've learned a lot from and who
- 29:56I've been Who I've known and have had contact with now.
- 30:02For as long as I've been doing this, this, this, this midgard
- 30:07musings thing, not the pat, not the podcast alone, but made
- 30:10Garden these things as a brand as a whole, when I started this,
- 30:13you know, I've known Eric since then.
- 30:15So that's what now for 45 years going on close to something like
- 30:19that. We've never met in person.
- 30:24We've had a lot of good long conversations.
- 30:27I have his number. He has mine, you know.
- 30:32We don't over share with each other on things, but I know that
- 30:36I can talk to him about stuff that I have questions about,
- 30:38because he has experience where I don't and he in turn.
- 30:44Meets me at a level where he is comfortable with sharing.
- 30:49Certain things with me, not sharing perhaps tribal business,
- 30:51which is, which would be out of place for him to do.
- 30:53So, his tribe could gar is his business and not mine, and we
- 30:59are not Brothers. You know what I mean?
- 31:01We are not, we are we have not tied olds of or tied weird in
- 31:07any way. We have not made any sort of
- 31:08kinship ties. If not met in person.
- 31:12We've talked over the phone a lot.
- 31:14Chatted over, you know, social media and even collaborated on
- 31:18videos. He's been on midgard musings
- 31:22before he hasn't been, certainly been on the podcast.
- 31:25He's been on like some of these am a type things that I've done
- 31:27on the midgard musings YouTube channel, but, you know, so but
- 31:32we share a lot of common things and and and yet out of all in
- 31:37all the years that we've known each other, I would not feel
- 31:40comfortable calling him brother, nor he nor What would he feel
- 31:45comfortable calling me his brother that I know and it's no
- 31:49disrespect to each other but we know who we are to each other.
- 31:51We are friends. That is that, that much I can
- 31:54say we are, as we are. We are friends and I have gone
- 31:59so far. So we're good.
- 32:00Friends, you know, and though the miles are what they are, you
- 32:05know, he's in Texas. I'm in Tennessee.
- 32:08We've established enough of a of a bond as it were over the
- 32:12distance over the ways. We've been able to communicate,
- 32:15we've established enough of a bond that we can comfortably say
- 32:18that we are friends of each other.
- 32:21And that we like to cut some each other's jib and all this
- 32:25kind of stuff, but we're not Brothers.
- 32:29And and you know, somebody though somebody who you know,
- 32:34maybe lets you know, let's say they just they have a meaningful
- 32:38conversation with somebody. There are new here and they talk
- 32:41to somebody who's got years of experience under their belt and
- 32:44they find what that person says to be of great value, you know,
- 32:49and they put that value that, you know, that they find that
- 32:53person be so valuable that they just are.
- 32:58Are stricken with with so much adoration that they, they put
- 33:01that title on. Thank you so much, brother,
- 33:03brother. It means so much.
- 33:05Thanks a lot brother. And again, I get this a lot from
- 33:08different people who I don't reciprocate in that way and it's
- 33:10no slight to them. There's no, you know, I don't
- 33:12feel disrespected. It doesn't hurt my feelings.
- 33:14This isn't this is this never is intended to be like, hey guys,
- 33:17by the way, stop doing that. Like no, it's fine.
- 33:21Like it doesn't, it doesn't bother me.
- 33:23And, but at the same time, don't don't don't get upset or Don't
- 33:28think it strange if I don't be like you're really appreciate
- 33:30you, too, brother, you know, I don't know.
- 33:34Like, I've just I've done enough of this for enough of the length
- 33:37of time where that something that means a lot to me.
- 33:41If I'm going to call you brother.
- 33:44I'm gonna mean it and it's going to be because we have done
- 33:46something of worth together, you have worth yourself to me.
- 33:52That you are worthy of that title.
- 33:55And, you know, if I accept the fact that you call that to me
- 33:58than it is. I feel honored because I feel
- 34:02that you have been deemed that I've been worthy to be called
- 34:06that I have worth myself to you. So we talked a bit about and he
- 34:14even read this gifting exchange the gifting cycle reciprocation.
- 34:18It's not an uncommon theme in many other cultures not just you
- 34:23know paganism, but the gifting exchange The Exchange is entire
- 34:27of weird. The exchange of Lochte. change
- 34:31of gifts, the exchange of things, you know, not physical
- 34:36things, per se, not material, things, but time, energy,
- 34:44whatever. Just, you know, the the constant
- 34:47exchange that that takes place. That can be a powerful thing
- 34:51that can, I can really set a very powerful tone and depending
- 34:58on the things that you're exchanging with, with somebody
- 35:01that can that can really put like I said, you know, set that
- 35:08worth with them or with you. So as you go into this like for
- 35:14all these new heathens maybe and for those that have been around
- 35:16for a little while and just haven't really thought about
- 35:18this doing. Even staff are doing, they're
- 35:21paying and stuff. Right?
- 35:22Maybe perhaps think about it now and realize, you know, how much
- 35:25am I putting into this? You know, how much worth is left
- 35:31in such a sacred thing in such a, you know, it could just be.
- 35:33Oh it's a simple name routes just a title.
- 35:36It's okay. Then I call everybody brother.
- 35:37It's no big deal. Well, should it be shouldn't it
- 35:40be? I mean, like shouldn't it be a
- 35:41big deal? Shouldn't you be calling?
- 35:43Somebody who means the world to you, your brother, rather than
- 35:46just every Tom Dick and Harry that walks across your path, you
- 35:49know. Brother sister, whatever you you
- 35:52know, whatever title of family that you want to use.
- 35:58It should mean something it should carry weight and it does
- 36:01for me, you know, so The Rings, the layers in a guard who can
- 36:09guard, you know, you will have a group, you will have an inner
- 36:14circle of people who you are entrusted to and who trust you.
- 36:21And then you're going to have people outside of that that are
- 36:23cool. They're all right, you know, no
- 36:26harm. No foul there.
- 36:27They haven't done you any wrong. And so far as, you know, they
- 36:30pretty cool cats, but they are not part of your inner circle,
- 36:35the part of maybe the tribe. You know, maybe another part of
- 36:38a part of another family. That's, you know, yeah, they
- 36:41pretty cool. I like the way they do things
- 36:42over there. They keep a nice house.
- 36:44They cook good food. They are well-mannered, you
- 36:48know, whatever. But they're not a part of your
- 36:51inner circle, the part of your tribe.
- 36:52They're just not a part of that in a guard, you know, and then
- 36:56you've got the layer that goes beyond that outside of that.
- 37:00It's not, it's not in and guard. It's not dry bits outside, its
- 37:04own. You know, that's a, that's a
- 37:06stranger. That's A traveler that I don't
- 37:08know. And that's probably one of the
- 37:10other things too. That I think gets may be lost or
- 37:13mixed up in this is that, you know, people that come into he
- 37:16the way they look at things like the nine, Noble virtues, right?
- 37:20I've talked a bit about this. I had it's been a while.
- 37:22It's been a while since I've gone down that road.
- 37:26Talk about, you know, one of the nine other virtues is I think
- 37:29it's a Hospitality, right? And I think that in order to be
- 37:34a good pagan. In order to live up to the nine,
- 37:37Noble virtues, you have to be hospitable and for some reason
- 37:41being hospitable means that you open up your home to any and
- 37:44everybody that may need. It doesn't matter.
- 37:46If, you know them that there are stranger along the way, you
- 37:49know, because they read through the have them all and then they
- 37:51see how you know Hospital hospitality is, is is a
- 37:55dominating theme, especially in the first, you know, section of
- 37:58the Hall of mul first however, many dozen stanzas.
- 38:00It's almost all about hospitality and being a good
- 38:03guest and how to be a good host and what to look for in this and
- 38:05that right? I mean, times are different.
- 38:08Now, man. There's, there's absolutely no
- 38:10way that I would in my good conscience, open up my home to
- 38:13just anybody and everybody that needs to get a message on, some
- 38:15Rando from Facebook and going. Oh, man.
- 38:17I'm traveling through. Could you give me your address?
- 38:20I need a place to stay. I don't know you and just
- 38:24because you were a hammer and I think you're cool.
- 38:26And you got, you know, you know, whatever.
- 38:28There's you know, there's I give you a few hotels around there
- 38:32that I'd recommend, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:36You need a ride. There's there's Uber, you know,
- 38:39lift, whatever. I'm not going to, I'm not going
- 38:42to drop what I'm doing. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna put
- 38:45my my in and guard my inner Hearth, my home, my roof-tree at
- 38:50risk for just, you know, just just some average person, just
- 38:55some random person that, you know, has a Thor's hammer, on
- 39:00their profile picture or says, you know, hey loading, the
- 39:02disorder that The whole thing for me and this is something
- 39:09that I've said it for the long time for a long time.
- 39:11But I've really gotten to a point where I fi live in.
- 39:14I feel it is that, you know, Hearth above all.
- 39:19The the tribe and all that is is great, you know, and then that's
- 39:23something to work towards but best have your Hearth life in
- 39:28order have your home in order be super protective.
- 39:31Be the be the one that that guards and safeguards, and
- 39:35protects your home and your roof tree, you know.
- 39:40And that means, you know, from everybody and anybody.
- 39:44Keep that keep that keep its Sovereign because it is and and
- 39:51the only person that has the right to run your show and run.
- 39:55Your hall is is you and then again, you know, there is no you
- 40:02are not entitled to have a home opened up to you by somebody
- 40:06else just because you share a common belief, a seemingly
- 40:11common belief, you know. Now, I have had.
- 40:19People open up their homes to me, who I didn't know, very
- 40:22well. Hey, man, you're coming through.
- 40:25You've always got a place to stay here, man.
- 40:28You've always got a roof over your head.
- 40:30Thank you. I appreciate that is very kind.
- 40:32It's a kind gesture, but you don't know me.
- 40:35You don't know me and I don't know you.
- 40:36So, you know, first of all, what are you how are you protecting
- 40:40your Hearth? My letting someone like me who
- 40:44you know granted. I may appear certain way.
- 40:46I may, you know be very genuine in the That I am but you don't
- 40:50really know me. You haven't taken the time to
- 40:52know me and I haven't definitely taking the time to know you.
- 40:55So how are you protecting your heart by letting someone?
- 40:58You barely know into the sovereignty and the sanctuary of
- 41:01your home. You know, how, what kind of a
- 41:06good Steward? Are you a kind of a good
- 41:07protector? Are you to do such a thing?
- 41:11And then what kind of person would I be just so, you know,
- 41:12walk into somebody's home that I've never been in.
- 41:15I don't know what's going on here.
- 41:16I know what, you know what? I'm walking into part of, what
- 41:20the hell of a mall says to, you know, that the guests should
- 41:22look both ways when you come in and cause you don't never know
- 41:25where there's going to be an attack.
- 41:26You never know when something's gonna come out and get you,
- 41:28whatever, right? So it's kind of a, it's not a
- 41:31exact quote, but that's the theme of it.
- 41:32That's the spirit behind it, you know.
- 41:37Now, you know, for those that have opened up their homes to
- 41:40me, and my wife and who we have in return opened our homes, to
- 41:44it has been done because there has been enough.
- 41:49Knowledge and, and, and character challenge shared worst
- 41:55as it were between us, that we know that where we're going is a
- 42:03wholesome place. And and, and the people who have
- 42:05opened up their homes, know enough of us to know that that
- 42:08we are whole summer. I am wholesome enough to be
- 42:10worthy to be counted as, you know, as guest within the the
- 42:15sanctuary of their home times. Are, you know, this?
- 42:17It's a lot different now. As and it wasn't, you know, the
- 42:20Viking age and the Iron Age and of Scandinavian, all these
- 42:23things where, you know, you just had random people coming and
- 42:25going and, you know, they didn't have hotels.
- 42:28They didn't have Ins at every turn and every corner you don't,
- 42:32you know, you might be going old days journey before you even saw
- 42:34a town and you needed a place to lay your head, some shelter, and
- 42:37you had a hut that you came across and it was just some, you
- 42:40know, nomadic person or some random person about living in
- 42:43the in the Hearth in the heath, the heathens as they were,
- 42:47right. And I like that anymore, man.
- 42:52So some of that type stuff, right?
- 42:56I think, I think that's a good thing to be reminded of an end
- 43:00to be vigilant of, you know, know understand the layers.
- 43:06Just because it's because you have people that are a part of
- 43:09your tribe doesn't mean that they are all in the guard.
- 43:12Right tribe is tribe, Hearth is Hearth, and hearth is Sovereign
- 43:17not everybody in your tribe. Not everybody in the tribe.
- 43:20Should have the you know, eyes into the home as it were or be a
- 43:26part of the the sanctuary of your roof tree and outside of
- 43:31that roof tree and outside of the in and guard.
- 43:35You still have your tribe. You still have people that will
- 43:37be there at your back. You'll still have people that
- 43:39will, you know, come to your Aid.
- 43:42If you need it, so there you go. There's my kind of little
- 43:46rundown breakdown as it were. What's a rundown?
- 43:49Hey, Jim was the rundown. Yeah, about that rundown.
- 43:54What's a rundown? It's an office reference.
- 43:57The office reference case. You hadn't noticed.
