- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian Reef
- 0:03podcast. Today's guest is a podcaster,
- 0:05hailing all the way from Florida in the USA, he goes by the
- 0:08moniker GX Plex. Welcome to the show.
- 0:11How you doing? I'm doing good and you doing
- 0:14well bit all over the place as you know, off camera, for those
- 0:17who don't know, I do this basically straight off the back
- 0:20of my day job. So it's like, I finished my job.
- 0:22Hello. Go straight to do the podcast or
- 0:24if I have some intervening time, been great, but generally it's
- 0:28one after the other. And Don't get me wrong, I love,
- 0:31I love to do it. As I said, off camera, I love
- 0:34this. I love learning about people
- 0:37sharing stories and all that jazz, but you got me ready for
- 0:41this. And that's where I felt bad
- 0:42because that's just like a headless chicken as we say here,
- 0:47but let's get straight into it. Like, I think the most
- 0:50interesting thing I found when I was looking into my research on
- 0:53you because it's difficult to find a lot of information and
- 0:56you're like, I got a rough picture of you but I mean that's
- 0:59kind of What this podcast is about is learning about people
- 1:02but the one thing I did find was that you're doing this podcast
- 1:06that's called it's Jack's and you know it's a straightforward
- 1:10podcast similar to what I'm doing.
- 1:12You know, you're interviewing people but the key difference
- 1:15which I found really interesting is that you have this this
- 1:19number that you've attached to it and you get people to cool,
- 1:23you cool in like like a radio show.
- 1:26So then talk to you said, tell us like, where you came.
- 1:29Came up with this idea how you get your guests and also one
- 1:33thing I want to know as well as like how do you kind of is it
- 1:38the sort of thing where you're just sitting there at the phone
- 1:39waiting and you're ready? And you're in the zone or is it
- 1:42like you have to kind of quote-unquote like a vet them
- 1:45first to kind of make sure it's not going to be?
- 1:48I don't know, something crazy. I don't know like talk to us
- 1:51about what this this shows about.
- 1:54So I started just because I think that everybody's
- 1:58perspective is pretty pretty interesting, and it doesn't
- 2:01matter who it is that you're talking to.
- 2:03It can be. Again, it could be literally
- 2:04anybody and that's the thing about it.
- 2:06That's why I like doing it, too. Because, any any single last
- 2:09person doesn't really matter if they're calling into even troll
- 2:13joke or to just have a serious conversation, it's any type of
- 2:17topic these people, whoever it may be, you just never know
- 2:21what's going to happen when the conversation starts to happen.
- 2:23And I found throughout my lifetime that having these
- 2:26conversations, tend to be the best conversations.
- 2:29And like, sometimes I'd be like, damn, like I wish other people
- 2:32got to hear that. Okay, so it's kind of you're
- 2:35trying to capture spontaneity essentially in a sentence us,
- 2:39it's interesting. Yeah because when I heard you'd
- 2:42like you have a very similar Cadence to myself like in terms
- 2:45of how you approach it which is interesting because like I
- 2:48listened to one episode and it was literally just some women in
- 2:51a pay phone calling you and you Yeah, yeah, you that's like
- 2:55hello. You know why you calling?
- 2:57And yeah. Very like you know like smooth
- 2:59and all that. And then this this she doesn't
- 3:01really know why she's calling you.
- 3:03But again, there doesn't have to be a purpose which I like, I
- 3:07like that kind of open-endedness about it but it must make it
- 3:11difficult for you to like, I mean, how do you go about kind
- 3:16of the questions aspect and knowing how to guide the
- 3:19conversation? Because I mean for me just a bit
- 3:21of insight about what I do. I obviously do a little bit of
- 3:24research about my guest beforehand.
- 3:26Get a rough picture of who they are.
- 3:28And then, you know, sometimes I have more questions.
- 3:31Sometimes, I have less I Rely a lot on ad-libbing based on what
- 3:35my guest says, that's my process but you know you're going on.
- 3:39Essentially nothing going in cold.
- 3:40Like how do you prepare for that?
- 3:44So usually whatever it is or I usually start off every night,
- 3:49kind of like what the theme or sometimes I don't.
- 3:51And I honestly doesn't even matter.
- 3:52But with these themes, usually, I'll come up with them myself.
- 3:55So I'll usually be sitting around thinking like a great
- 3:58example of it. The other day I was sitting
- 4:01around. I was thinking because there was
- 4:03a little bit of dust just on top of one of the books in my room
- 4:07and I was looking at it and I was like hmm I was like and I
- 4:11started thinking about it, it's weird.
- 4:13I started thinking about the dust and I was like, it's kind
- 4:16of funny that like no matter how many times you clean like this
- 4:19dust is always going to keep coming back and then it kind of
- 4:21reminded me of when I was a kid and how like I thought the world
- 4:26was a lot more simple. I thought you would just clean
- 4:29things and that you just wouldn't have to do it again but
- 4:31obviously you grow up and then you kind of find out that's not
- 4:34true. So then that kind of came up
- 4:36that brought to me like a theme for that same night.
- 4:40And that theme was kind of like you know, what was something
- 4:42that you thought. Would be simple when you're a
- 4:44kid and then you kind of grew up in, it wasn't, you know, it's
- 4:48just my thinking about my thought processes earlier in the
- 4:51day and bring it in the form of a question.
- 4:54That's brilliant. I love that idea.
- 4:56I mean, that's similar, I have a similar thing sometimes when I
- 5:01go on Instagram live and I just chat to people like, you know,
- 5:04you just you cling on to what people say, or you have a
- 5:07particular thought in your head and sometimes that becomes a
- 5:10video or in your case, it becomes a show idea, which I
- 5:12think it's brilliant. Actually, that reminds me when
- 5:15one of the episodes I listen to you did actually have like a
- 5:17theme think that you asked your guests about and then that
- 5:20obviously drove the compensation but I suppose continue on with
- 5:27with this as far as like just understanding the format and
- 5:30everything like how how many guests have you had so far on
- 5:34the show? Words of 2030.
- 5:41Let me finally. Okay.
- 5:44And so far like, what have been the kind of the most challenging
- 5:49aspects of it? That will be the most difficult
- 5:52things I think the most difficult thing.
- 6:01For sure. On my end the most difficult
- 6:03thing is probably. Oh my God.
- 6:05Editing. Yeah, you take so much out of
- 6:09you but when I'm actually doing it, I think sometimes I'll be
- 6:16Sometimes I'll be talking to someone, and I'll come across
- 6:18certain topics that I thought, I knew how to navigate or talk
- 6:22around, but even then in the moment I find it difficult.
- 6:26For example, I had somebody that was talking about how when they
- 6:29were younger him and his brother witnessed their mother being
- 6:35abused by their mother's boyfriend at the time.
- 6:38Also, brother got a knife and he stabbed the mother's boyfriend,
- 6:42the back and, you know, in the moment I could say the store
- 6:45When the person is telling it to you and they're in that moment
- 6:47of vulnerability. Well, it's not exactly exactly
- 6:51like 100% vulnerability because they're able to communicate it
- 6:54to you softly you know calmly they know what they're doing but
- 6:57at the same time it's still a little bit difficult to absorb
- 7:02what they're saying and then also bounce off that continue on
- 7:05the conversation. So sometimes I'll be caught in
- 7:08situations like that works, will be difficult.
- 7:10That's, that's hard, isn't it? Like, I sometimes I'll I'll be
- 7:14listening to the stories of people share on here and yeah,
- 7:16sometimes are very pointed and heavy things and you what you
- 7:19want that? I mean without sounding horrible
- 7:22like that makes for good content.
- 7:24Interesting content because it's real and it's you know, life
- 7:28isn't yeah. Life isn't all sunshine and
- 7:30rainbows. Is life.
- 7:31Life is also suffering and hard times and how you persevere and
- 7:35get through that. And but yeah, it can be
- 7:37difficult to a well a let's do it.
- 7:40Be like you. It's hard to guide it isn't it?
- 7:43Because in a situation like that where someone's pouring their
- 7:45heart out to you it's It's Tricky.
- 7:48Like knowing like when you can really, for example, change the
- 7:53subject or, you know, how far can you dig in this?
- 7:57Like, because you're not established, you don't know.
- 8:00I mean before you came The show people who people listed might
- 8:04know this, but every time I have someone on the show beforehand,
- 8:07I ask them if there's anything that they're uncomfortable
- 8:10talking about or anything like that.
- 8:12And the reason I do that is for that exact reason, is to a not
- 8:16to trigger someone be to kind of know where the limit is the line
- 8:22is, you know, I've noticed that not everyone necessarily cares
- 8:27about this. I mean, I think it's bit
- 8:28different in podcasting but I've noticed on television, for
- 8:34example, hosts will often not care too much about
- 8:38overstepping. The, my Depends, so it is, some
- 8:40of them will have been told before I like you can't ask
- 8:42this, you can't ask that because that's just how TV works.
- 8:44But there's there's some hosts that don't care and then when
- 8:47you see those big kind of blow ups on TV and like, you know,
- 8:51dangerous situations that occur, it's because of that because
- 8:55they've pushed the wrong buttons and maybe unknowingly, but then
- 9:00you got to ask yourself. Self.
- 9:01If you've got a guest coming on your show you really should do
- 9:05your research. Like it reminds me of the of the
- 9:08Will Smith Chris Rock thing. I feel like if Chris Rock had I
- 9:13truly believe Chris Rock did Mother.
- 9:15I that's why I think because Chris Rock is a very intelligent
- 9:18man. He's a very well-established
- 9:20comedian. He's been doing this like 30 odd
- 9:22years. If he's going to pick on someone
- 9:25in the front row, he's going to know the situation and also
- 9:30here's another thing that Talking about with regards to
- 9:32that. Is that a lot of jokes get
- 9:35written for people? And I feel like that I feel like
- 9:40maybe that wasn't his joke. Maybe that was written for him
- 9:44maybe but I feel like he definitely didn't know about the
- 9:46whole alopecia thing, that's the vibe I get.
- 9:50And the reason that's relevant is obviously, if you don't know,
- 9:54you don't know that you're over, you know, going to cause great
- 9:57offense. I truly believe in my heart of
- 9:59hearts he wouldn't have. Gone there.
- 10:01If he didn't own that because comedy is like a Minefield, you
- 10:04know, like but when it becomes like personal and he's already
- 10:08had like had shots at them before.
- 10:13If you ever get that back in 2016, he went had a little pop
- 10:17at them. I think, because they boycotted
- 10:18the Oscars because the lack of representation in that year. and
- 10:24it was, is it is it is difficult?
- 10:29Is it uncomfortable situation? I think for all certainly but
- 10:33the aftermath is almost more interesting than the actual
- 10:36situation itself. Yeah.
- 10:38Because then you get to see all those emotions, kind of dissolve
- 10:41and you never really know how these emotions around as our, we
- 10:44don't have time to solve an anger if they're gonna cry, if
- 10:46they're going to just get up and walk out if they're gonna
- 10:50whatever type of reaction and maybe but the whole goal is like
- 10:53you never want to push it that far, you know, that's It's
- 10:58almost like a like the art of it, right?
- 11:00No. Is that you never ever want to
- 11:03push that button. You never, you want to see how
- 11:04close your finger can get to that button and then just not
- 11:08touch it. Just just enough for everyone to
- 11:10see the realness of it, but not enough for it to go too far.
- 11:15And that's, that's the, that's the art of it.
- 11:18One thing that Chris Rock said, which I found was interesting in
- 11:22the moment, but actually is I don't think it's true now
- 11:26immediately after it happened and he had the sort of argument
- 11:31with Will Smith. He said, well, that was the
- 11:33greatest night in television because obviously his mind he's
- 11:37thrown he's thrown off by that. You know.
- 11:38He doesn't like I could tell in his head.
- 11:41It he was sort of thinking I could destroy this guy.
- 11:44I could wreck this guy. I could do this, I could do
- 11:45this, you know, there was even a point if you watch just I think
- 11:49even before he got slapped with just afterwards, he clenched his
- 11:51fists. He was thinking of punching will
- 11:54back but he knew better, he knew Not to do that.
- 11:58And that's the amazing thing about this.
- 12:00He made a shitty joke that he shouldn't have made, but no
- 12:02one's talking about that. Everyone's just talking about
- 12:06you can't assault this person. Look at this marriage, you know,
- 12:10the whole situation, like, it be people aren't talking about
- 12:13Creek. The only thing people were
- 12:14saying about Chris rockers that they feel bad for him and it's
- 12:18his ticket sales have gone up early.
- 12:22The point is yeah, like it's To me when he said that, I think he
- 12:28was just thinking of the aftermath and the reality is it
- 12:34will never really be looked at. It will always be an Infamous
- 12:36moment. It'll always be something that
- 12:37people look back on like wow, I can't believe that happened but
- 12:40it will never be like. Wasn't that a great moment?
- 12:42Maybe some people think that but I think most people look at it
- 12:45for what it is which is it's a grown-ass adult, slapping
- 12:49another adult for a joke, they made which even if the joke is
- 12:55Like that's not how you do like gin and I mean with businesslike
- 13:01I mean and it's also a contextual as well.
- 13:05That was like an award show and that's a comedian whose job it
- 13:07is to take the mick out of people, you know, if that was in
- 13:11a bar, if they were in a bar, right?
- 13:14And Chris Rock has said that it's not a comedy show.
- 13:17It's just like him being an asshole, right?
- 13:19Yeah, by all means. Go punch the guy, why not?
- 13:22But because it's You know, he's pet literally been paid to take
- 13:27jokes out people. You know, make jokes out of
- 13:30people, and if you've ever been to a comedy club anywhere in the
- 13:33world ever, you know that if you sit in the front row, You're
- 13:36Gonna Get Wrecked. That's how it is.
- 13:38That's how Comedy Works. You don't wanna get rekt dont,
- 13:41sit the front and don't go to the Oscars as well.
- 13:44If you don't want to get absolutely destroyed because I
- 13:47mean, that's the whole point of this show.
- 13:49But anyway, yeah, back to back to the point.
- 13:53I mean, it's Watch E. I want to ask you, what was your
- 13:57opinion on all of that situation?
- 13:58Like, well, what did you get from that?
- 14:00My opinion on it was that As for Will Smith hitting Chris Rock.
- 14:09As I mentioned before I already mentioned that, you know, not
- 14:13only with comedy. Is it again like this?
- 14:16Art of not pressing that button but also with what we do it's
- 14:20very similar where you don't want to, you know, press that
- 14:23button. You don't want to push people
- 14:24too far. And I don't know if there's a
- 14:26specific word to get to this, but I do think that Chris Rock
- 14:32should have paid a little bit more attention to not pressing
- 14:34that button. Although he You could have never
- 14:36predicted it, but the reason why I say that is because I mean
- 14:38Will Smith, and his wife have been in the media quite a bit,
- 14:43the past year, regarding their marriage.
- 14:45And I think that Jada has also spoken about her palpation
- 14:49previous interviews to write. And she spoken about the fact
- 14:52that she doesn't like it, like she just not like, speaking
- 14:56about it. She does not enjoy.
- 14:59Of course, I don't think anybody would enjoy having alopecia, but
- 15:02she specifically talked about how it's hurting her self-esteem
- 15:04and etc. Etc.
- 15:06I think that he just took that risk and the just press that
- 15:10button, I think that Would it is?
- 15:14It necessarily correct of Will Smith to do that, probably not.
- 15:19But again, if you press that button, you don't really know
- 15:21what the outcome of it is going to be.
- 15:24So that's what I would say about it.
- 15:25I don't necessarily condemn him for if anything, I think it's
- 15:28just more of a hmm, more of a cost of the trade and plus
- 15:36they're both worth like hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 15:39I'm sure they're fine. See, they might that bank
- 15:43accounts might be right, but I tell you what, this, if nothing
- 15:47else is proof, that it doesn't matter how much money you have
- 15:50in life. You can still have a life that
- 15:53you absolutely hate. Like, I'm sorry to say it but my
- 15:57perspective looking at like, I've been in a relationship
- 15:59before where there's The and controlling abuse that kind of
- 16:09stuff, right? And that's the thing.
- 16:12I recognize that from a mile away, when I heard about their
- 16:14marriage and everything that's going on, I was like it's the
- 16:17same. I've been through this.
- 16:18I know what this is, like not to that extent but I there were
- 16:20there were certain things like, for instance, certain behaviors.
- 16:24I found myself doing as a result of trying to please this other
- 16:27purse, right? And that was what that was that.
- 16:33I had nothing to do that wasn't will wanting to do that.
- 16:36That was he's trying to please Jada in any way he can and
- 16:42that's an interesting thing. We don't actually see the shot
- 16:45of her looking at him or hit him looking at her because all we
- 16:49see is him going ha ha ha and her eye roll and not being, not
- 16:54liking the joke, then it cuts away to rock, Chris Rock, and
- 16:57the next minute you see will walking up to the stage.
- 16:59So, in that moment, that's definitely where there was
- 17:02lucky. Look exchange, like, what are
- 17:05you going to do something about it.
- 17:06You know, he knew he knew he'd have to do something.
- 17:11And, you know, I spoke about the aftermath before.
- 17:15Thus what has transpired since then, she's turned, she's turned
- 17:19around and said, God, I feel so bad for, will she turned around?
- 17:23And she basically said, I don't need.
- 17:29I'm a strong woman. I don't need a man to protect
- 17:31me. Basically she's not standing
- 17:34behind him. She doesn't support it
- 17:35basically. And it's like, if you're married
- 17:40couple of you're married, you're in a relationship.
- 17:43Like you should stand by the person you're with, you know,
- 17:46like even if they're wrong, still stand by them.
- 17:50Just tell them behind closed doors.
- 17:52Like they, listen, you're wrong. And this is why and blah, blah,
- 17:55blah, but like it, like when you do that in public, it undermines
- 17:59you. It just makes you look like a
- 18:00fool like their relationship. I don't know why, but they've
- 18:03decided to air their relationship in public.
- 18:05And that's their choice, right? But Obviously.
- 18:10It's a problem. Like, I was listening to a
- 18:11podcast about the severed, a wrestling podcast, actually.
- 18:14But this came up to, it's funny how things work.
- 18:18And one of the points they made was that because they've made
- 18:22the decision to air this in public.
- 18:26What it means is they are basically acting 24/7 in public
- 18:32like that relationship. You know, I wouldn't normally
- 18:39turn around and say something like this in terms of like, you
- 18:42know, I'm not there, I don't know how it goes but I can see
- 18:45with everything that's going on. Plus my own personal experience,
- 18:48their relationship is awful, it's terrible, they shouldn't be
- 18:50together, you know, I know they probably stuck together for the
- 18:53kids. They try to make a family unit
- 18:55and I totally respect that but if you're not happy you
- 18:59shouldn't be together. That's that's the long and short
- 19:01of it. It makes everything else worse
- 19:03and that's what I see. They just seem to be acting. 47,
- 19:07which in its self, must be really tiring and secondly,
- 19:10like, that must be hell when you get home and you can finally
- 19:13take the mask off and sit down and God.
- 19:18Well, what must that be like? It's kind of in a begin to
- 19:21imagine what that must be like. Um, I definitely would say that.
- 19:32A lot of it definitely is acting in a sense.
- 19:34I do think that a lot of it is a, you know, they're doing this
- 19:37for publicity, which makes sense.
- 19:38They've been in the game for multiple decades.
- 19:41I'm sure they know how the media works and how to attract
- 19:44people's attention. I do think that kind of using
- 19:52their marriage as like this. This this tool almost to gain
- 19:56this attention. I think it's definitely Not
- 20:01something that's unheard of, I would say, I would say that it's
- 20:06somewhat common in history that we can find that.
- 20:12Do I think that they don't know what they're doing, though?
- 20:18No. And the reason why is because
- 20:20like I said they've been in this game for so long, I'm sure that
- 20:22they when they get home and like you said, they take that mask
- 20:24off. I'm sure that they both have
- 20:26agreements on certain things regarding what they put out to
- 20:30the media as to how they want to handle these things.
- 20:33Because there's definitely an angle to this, where it's like
- 20:36they're producing income, they're getting more views, more
- 20:41xmx more, whatever it may be. I think that at least for me, I
- 20:45tried not to take. what's going on with them as seriously just
- 20:51because of all that previous context in a sense of that make
- 20:54sense just how long they've been doing this, their age, all the
- 20:58history that they have to to a see think it's kind of a BS and
- 21:01that just putting on some sort of Essentially like a facade in
- 21:07order to just get more attention.
- 21:09I think it's a combination of both.
- 21:10I think that there's definitely like there's something wrong
- 21:13going on over there. But they're also like, hey, if
- 21:17this wrong thing is happening, you know, we could also, you
- 21:20know, like, I think that it's definitely a mix of both.
- 21:24I feel like, going, sorry. I was gonna say, I don't know
- 21:28which one is more. I don't know if it's more
- 21:30genuine, or if it's more active. But there's definitely like, you
- 21:33know, 60/40 70/30 on one or the other side if that makes sense.
- 21:40Stink. Like and it being brings me to a
- 21:42bigger point which I want to move with.
- 21:44Is this idea of reputation? I feel like Will Smith has
- 21:49completely shattered his reputation because I thought at
- 21:52first, I looked at this from professional wrestling
- 21:55standpoint as like, it's a work, it's not real, its fake, it's a
- 21:58work. That's a work, right?
- 21:59And then I, you know, I watch some other things some like body
- 22:03analysis, things. I had some time to like you
- 22:06know, that because that's the thing guys.
- 22:08Always take some time to think. Things through before, you speak
- 22:12for you, voice your opinion because the longer you take the
- 22:15more, you look at it for a lens and the more, you understand it,
- 22:18and I completely did a 180. I looked at it, as I know, this
- 22:20isn't a work, this isn't fake. This is just a really horribly
- 22:25uncomfortable situation. That doesn't benefit anyone.
- 22:29I mean it kind of inadvertently benefited, Chris Rock.
- 22:33Like he's not, he'll be fine. This won't like the work, the
- 22:37worst situation that come out of this.
- 22:40For what Chris rockers, haha, that guy slapped you, which, to
- 22:43be honest, you don't care. I'm sure he's been attacked
- 22:46plenty of times for doing comedy before, like, and also, there's
- 22:49just one thing by the way. Did you notice like when he got
- 22:54here? I looked it.
- 22:55As soon as he got hit, I was like, there's a man who's
- 22:57definitely been punched in the face before.
- 23:01You know what I mean? Because it's like once you've
- 23:03been punched in the face, like, I've been punched in the face.
- 23:05I'm, yeah, I don't know if you've been punched in the face,
- 23:06but it's like you're not afraid of it anymore.
- 23:10Like, you know what, to expect, not as painful as you think.
- 23:13I mean, obviously depends who's punching you, but that is hard
- 23:17on the stomach. Yeah, yeah, look at your base is
- 23:22built for. It's literally built for it.
- 23:23Your stomach is. Yeah, you get punched in there.
- 23:26So you get winded. Bubba blah.
- 23:27Like, I've been punched in the face before, and I can tell you
- 23:29that that I mean I was high at the time those that does make a
- 23:33difference, but I was young. I was young.
- 23:36I was a long long time ago, but I remember bracing myself for it
- 23:43and it happened and I was like, in my head, I was like, oh, like
- 23:46it does hurt, but not that much. And this guy was a pain, not as
- 23:51a, it just doesn't, again, your piece is built for it.
- 23:55You have your cheekbones, your jaw, your school.
- 23:57It just doesn't really hurt as much for me, it's definitely the
- 24:02If you don't have, if you haven't prepared yourself
- 24:06forward, or haven't had it before it, definitely, it's a
- 24:08much sharper. Much it kind of shoots through
- 24:11your body, almost I would say, yeah, I think people forget is,
- 24:16was like all your organs, and everything.
- 24:18All the action is going on here. So if someone hits you there,
- 24:21it's like, it's no surprise that you drop to the floor, like, you
- 24:24know, I mean, I said, yeah, it is what it is.
- 24:28But anyway, yeah, just bringing it back to reputation.
- 24:33I feel like Not just in this situation with with Will sway
- 24:37from Chris Rock but just in general like you have to be so
- 24:40careful when you're putting anything out online and or not
- 24:44us necessarily online but anything you do.
- 24:48It's a public performance, anything you do.
- 24:50So you always have to think about what you say, how you
- 24:52present things, whether everything is consistent, you
- 24:56know, I worry about this all the time.
- 24:58I look at my day job and then I look at everything else I'm
- 25:02doing online and I wonder like if these people would see what I
- 25:04do online with, would that have an impact?
- 25:08Because I don't do anything particularly.
- 25:09So this just so you know, but if they would just see like I don't
- 25:12know, some random videos, I did one time live in the podcast,
- 25:15I'll be fine because it's kind of professional and stuff.
- 25:17But, you know, when it's other things, I'm just like with that
- 25:21affect things, because perception is so important.
- 25:24You know what I mean? And once a perception is
- 25:26shattered, it changes everything because I sometimes, when you
- 25:29meet someone and they do something that you didn't like
- 25:31or the disrespected you or, or they just did a behavior.
- 25:35That was like, the example I of always give is, let's say you're
- 25:39in a workplace and your boss is always like calm and collected
- 25:43and that's their demeanor. And then one day they just like
- 25:46shout and scream at you and lose it.
- 25:47It so that you'll never be able to look at them the same way
- 25:50again, you know, and have the same level of respect because
- 25:54it's gone, you know, because I mean shouting at someone is a
- 25:57disrespect for Action much the same as this situation stopping
- 26:02someone because you're emotional about something is disrespectful
- 26:06thing to do and I don't know he's no longer the The cool calm
- 26:15collected guy that we all you know, loved growing up.
- 26:18He's this To be honest, emotional wreck, like I don't
- 26:24know. Like I can't, I struggled to
- 26:26have much sympathy for him as far as his actions concerned, I
- 26:29understand his actions. I understand don't get me wrong.
- 26:32We all have a limit, we will have a line but that had nothing
- 26:35to do with Chris Rock that like that's just a shitty marriage
- 26:38that needs to end an end now. Or I don't know, get marriage
- 26:43counseling, whatever you need to do to fix that, but that should
- 26:45be your focus because if you don't fix what's going on
- 26:49internally, that's You stop punishing, the world punishing
- 26:53other people. That's that's the way I saw
- 26:54that. I mean, it just You can't punish
- 26:58everyone else for what's going on in here.
- 27:00You know, I think that I think that what you said is true that
- 27:06Will Smith is definitely not the same person we saw growing up,
- 27:09but I also would say that it would be somewhat irrational to
- 27:13want better or that to be a reality because you know growing
- 27:17up people will change. I'm sure every two to three
- 27:20years from now, you will not be the same person as the person
- 27:23that I have right here on my computer screen, same goes for
- 27:26Will Smith in the Wind. And he has kind of like this
- 27:28entire campaign about himself going on right now.
- 27:31We're even before he talked about or even before this Chris
- 27:36Rock incident. He also he posed in front of a
- 27:39camera shirtless just in his underwear and he talked about
- 27:42how he let himself go. He talked about pretty much a
- 27:46lot of his failures to. He also recently was talking
- 27:49about how his father abused him when he was growing up and he
- 27:52contemplating actually killing him for what?
- 27:57He did not only to him but also to his mother.
- 28:01And once once you kind of get all this context on him, it's
- 28:04like, okay. Like no, of course, it kind of
- 28:06makes sense that as you get, as he got older and older, his
- 28:09actions are beginning to kind of like change and you're able he's
- 28:13able to kind of break past that that show of being like that
- 28:17cool guy. And now he's kind of letting out
- 28:19his emotions more and more and, you know, Reaching that level of
- 28:24Fame that he had at such a young age.
- 28:26Like I'm sure certain certain that it had certain implications
- 28:29on his emotional state that we just weren't aware of.
- 28:31So, I try to look at Will Smith as more of like a human being
- 28:35that's just changing as opposed to, you know, he's not well
- 28:38Smith anymore because because he is, you know, we all go through
- 28:40things, we all change, we all experienced some things, as you
- 28:45said suffering, really? And the one thing that occurs
- 28:48about of suffering is just change.
- 28:51I think that You know, he's been Rich for such a long time that
- 28:55slapping Chris Rock. Of course seemed like it was
- 28:59definitely in his ability to do so and it was I mean, it doesn't
- 29:02seem to me like he's at any real repercussions for it.
- 29:06Do I think that it necessarily denounces him as a person or
- 29:11denounced him as Chris Rock now? Or I'm sorry as well.
- 29:13Smith know, I think that were just seeing again, kind of all
- 29:18this pressure that he's been talking about very recently to
- 29:21coming out and just one particular Whether it be because
- 29:23of the marriage, because of his personal life because of his
- 29:25Reflections, all these different things, I'm sure built up in
- 29:29that one moment and he felt like he had to act.
- 29:31That's how I see it. I see it as more of a Reasonable
- 29:36explosion. I would almost say and honestly
- 29:38if I were in his position I'm not sure if I would do anything
- 29:41different. Yeah, no, I totally agree with
- 29:45you and thank you for sharing. I think that's a really well for
- 29:50through perspective. I've had that perspective before
- 29:53as well on this. And I mean my response to that
- 29:59would be the end of the day. I think the expectation
- 30:02generally is, as you get older, you get wiser, you get more
- 30:08because there's two types of intelligence, you've got your
- 30:10standard, kind of, I suppose knowledge and Life experience
- 30:13and everything. And then you've got emotional
- 30:15intelligence as well, which is totally different ballgame.
- 30:18And that's more to do with, you know, not just controlling one's
- 30:22emotions, but understanding, how emotions work and stuff like
- 30:26that. When you were talking, then
- 30:29though, the key thing that came into my mind, was this idea of
- 30:33like, repressed trauma, you know, because you made Solid
- 30:36points, you know, he can't became Rich, a young age, we've
- 30:39seen that time and time again. How that has an impact on people
- 30:43pushed into like not and not just we're not just talking
- 30:46about anyone here he was at the very top he was like King in the
- 30:5090s, you know from everything movies, popular culture
- 30:54television music. He's king of the world.
- 30:58Well then human sphere, at least, but That obviously is
- 31:03going to have its impact. It's going to take its toll
- 31:05completely I totally get that. Here's the thing like when
- 31:14you've got access to all those resources and money and stuff
- 31:17like that, like you've got to learn to take care of you first
- 31:20and foremost, you know, and you've got to grow in every
- 31:24sense of the word and that's the thing.
- 31:29Like growth is a continuous thing.
- 31:31It's always you know like if anything like the reason why I
- 31:34don't have as much sympathy as maybe other people is that you
- 31:37know Will Smith is in his 50s. He's got showed you marriage
- 31:44children to children. I think they're adults.
- 31:46Now, I think on the other their 20s or whatever like their early
- 31:50early twenties, right? So it's like, You get to that
- 31:57point, like geez, I mean, I'm 28 now and I can tell you in the
- 32:01last five to six years, there's been a lot of growth and I put
- 32:07that straight down to experience.
- 32:09I mean, for example, I know that you're do, you mind if I share
- 32:11your age, Yeah. So, and that's the amazing thing
- 32:17to me when I listen to you speak, I'm like, I'm amazed like
- 32:21how mature and stuff like that, but the thing that comes to my
- 32:24mind is you probably been through some stuff that's
- 32:28shifted. How you think, do you know what
- 32:30I mean? You don't, you don't get to that
- 32:31level of maturity without having gone through some shit
- 32:35experience, some stuff, seen some things, that's how
- 32:38experience Works in life, you know, but the thing is, it's a
- 32:41choice, how you choose Choose to use it.
- 32:43You can use experiences and not learn anything from them or let
- 32:48them be a victim or let them Define.
- 32:50You not saying that's what Wills doing.
- 32:51I'm just saying, you know, in general, I think with will, I
- 32:56think it's more a case of not addressing it.
- 32:59I think, you know, with the things that you spoke about, you
- 33:01know, the things that happened with his father, rising to fame
- 33:06at a young age. And now, I don't think it's a
- 33:09coincidence that he's with this woman who me, Plates and uses
- 33:13him. And he doesn't fight but I don't
- 33:19I'm not sure he has the strength to do it and I'm not questioning
- 33:22him as a man, you know, it's not about that.
- 33:25It's It's about having the strength and belief in yourself
- 33:30to know that you will be okay if you walk away like yeah, I
- 33:34learned I wish them the best. I hope that it works out in some
- 33:37shape or form, but right now he needs to do some soul-searching
- 33:41and really like address this properly and whether that's
- 33:44through therapy or whether that's through, I don't know,
- 33:47whatever you need to do, you know, like you've got to address
- 33:50that. And I think that that's um, I
- 33:54think I have a two points. I want to make.
- 33:56So I think the first thing that you said that you kind of
- 33:57started off with is that you said that you said something
- 34:01about emotions and how emotions, you know, I, I personally think
- 34:06that he went through this thing, all these things at a young age
- 34:09and then, of course, you blew up at a very young age.
- 34:11And I think that, at that point in time, he wasn't able to truly
- 34:14understand what process, what happened to him, because they
- 34:16were so much forward. There wasn't enough time to look
- 34:18backward, I would say, hmm and emotions are very complex.
- 34:23This thing when you're happy, you're going to express it in a
- 34:26completely different way than I do, when I'm happy for multiple
- 34:28reasons, whether it be from your background, your culture, maybe
- 34:32you have sort of hobbies that influence, how you get happy,
- 34:34maybe you like to dance. So maybe when you get happy like
- 34:37to dance or maybe you like to write, so you can happy write
- 34:39about what you see in the moment.
- 34:40All these different things, you know, from the time that we were
- 34:44in somebody's a, you know, honestly, somebody says tackles
- 34:48and then we came into this world.
- 34:50We've had a completely different Experience of everything.
- 34:56And it's really difficult to be able to look at every single
- 34:59last person in this sort of light.
- 35:01But once you begin to try to have that overarching
- 35:04perspective, at least for me, when I look at Will Smith, I'm
- 35:07able to see that all these things happen to him at a young
- 35:10age. And honestly it, I mean, I think
- 35:11I was around his age when he blew up.
- 35:14I think that at this stage where I'm at, I'm still just really
- 35:18generally reflecting my childhood and how that affects
- 35:21me to this day. Then just seeing how the things
- 35:25that I for my first perceptions of the world, how I currently
- 35:29may still have them or how I currently don't and I'm
- 35:33learning, which ones are useful to me, which ones aren't.
- 35:36And this is a very valuable time for me.
- 35:38This is why partly part of the reason why I even do what I do
- 35:41because I'm able to get so many different perspectives from
- 35:44different people who are older or maybe even sometimes just a
- 35:47little bit younger to see how they're dealing with these
- 35:49things. And honestly it again, if I were
- 35:52Will Smith In his position and our to blow up right now.
- 35:55If I just got like a million Tick-Tock followers, you know,
- 36:00there's no at that point, there's nothing to look back at
- 36:02because now forward is forward, as it's hitting me like a truck,
- 36:06you know? And I think that, you know, once
- 36:09once he got that, you know, having kids at that point, when
- 36:13you have that much money it's it's less of in, it's less of a
- 36:17stress. You have all you have all these
- 36:19resources that are necessary to you.
- 36:21Honestly like having a child at that point.
- 36:23It's just Just, it's just a thing that you can very easily
- 36:27do. And I think that The hardest
- 36:32thing at that point to deal with, I would say, once you want
- 36:36to blow up, would probably be your emotions.
- 36:38And again, I've already said how difficult emotions are to
- 36:41process. When I get angry again, it'll be
- 36:44in a completely different way that you do, and we all have
- 36:47different emotions that we have trouble processing.
- 36:50I think that my emotion that I have the most issue, misuse
- 36:52processing is probably Probably sadness.
- 36:58I don't like to entertain sadness.
- 37:00I try to avoid sadness as much as I can.
- 37:02I don't like watching dog, movies.
- 37:04Oh my God. My way.
- 37:07I will go the opposite way to not watch a dark movie.
- 37:10I do not like entertaining that emotion emotions, very difficult
- 37:13for my, the chemical reactions in my body for me to understand
- 37:18how to process those. And that's just me, you know I'm
- 37:20just a regular human being and it will Smith has come forward
- 37:24talking about everything that's happened.
- 37:26Past. And I think that to me, if
- 37:29anything it, you know, it makes him more human, you know, maybe
- 37:34maybe I'd see Will Smith a little bit more differently if
- 37:36he wasn't a because even before he slapped Chris Rock, he was
- 37:40talking about all these things and maybe I'd see it a little
- 37:43bit differently if he wasn't so open about all these things that
- 37:46are happening and open about how bad his marriages and open about
- 37:49these things because I do it, I think he does that for a reason.
- 37:50I think he does that. So everyone else can can learn
- 37:53from it and see his mistakes. Are you can go ahead.
- 37:58Okay. The reason I disagree with this
- 38:01is only a one point, I think all of the stuff that you're talking
- 38:06about with regards to himself reflected when his life totally
- 38:09agree with that. Yeah, that's spite of the
- 38:11recovery process. But specifically when it comes
- 38:14to his wife that chat show that she's got where she are as dirty
- 38:18laundry to the world. That's her thing, that's what
- 38:22she chooses to do. And he has to take part in that
- 38:26because sheet, that's what she wants.
- 38:29Yeah, I'm telling you, man. It's a manipulative
- 38:31relationship. I've seen it time and time
- 38:33again. I've experienced it myself.
- 38:35It's like a guarantee you if he got away from that woman, and it
- 38:39was just him on his own, or him with another woman.
- 38:42You'd see a totally different guy, I don't see how I was the
- 38:47fact that she had that shot. I wasn't even I'm not to I'm
- 38:50more. I know a lot more about Will
- 38:51Smith that I do about his wife. So what you're saying,
- 38:54definitely good point. And of course you definitely
- 38:56like it's out of that you've listened to the show a little
- 38:59bit. So, you know how so no, even I
- 39:00just I've Just Seen Clips. I mean I was introduced to it
- 39:04when they had their big conversation.
- 39:06Everyone memes and makes jokes out of and stuff like that.
- 39:12I looked into it a little bit, just to kind of get an idea of
- 39:14what's going on, especially when this stuff transpired, because I
- 39:18already knew about their relationship as most of us have
- 39:22by looked at it with a different light because I looked at it
- 39:24from from my personal experience, what I've
- 39:27experienced in the past. For example, I give another
- 39:29example when I looked at the Johnny Depp situation with Amber
- 39:33Heard, There was one clip that made me, realize hundred percent
- 39:39that he's innocent. It was something very simple.
- 39:43He was at some film festival or something and he's talking to
- 39:49reporters, and he begins to kind of look over his shoulder,
- 39:56right? As if to kind of ask for
- 39:59approval from Amber, Heard who comes over, The way that he does
- 40:04it is like he's waiting for approval acceptance and it's not
- 40:11exactly fear but it's, it's control when one person
- 40:15controls. Another person, manipulative lie
- 40:18or from an abuse perspective. It's like That person almost is
- 40:25being gaslighted but also gaslights themself.
- 40:27I did it. I did it to myself.
- 40:28You know you convince yourself that?
- 40:30Oh no this is okay. Oh no they have my best
- 40:33interests or no this is but you're creating a false reality,
- 40:38you know. It's not real, it's not, it's
- 40:40not true. And in that one clip I recognize
- 40:42that and I mean it freaked me out because I've I've been and I
- 40:46saw that I was like Jesus man. Like I've been now.
- 40:50I know what that looks like. I didn't realize when it
- 40:53happened to me and it's a scary thing and that's what I see with
- 40:56will spend, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I don't have
- 40:58sympathy for Will Smith, I was a bit annoyed at the fact that he
- 41:02chose to to do that but everything else.
- 41:05Like, you know, of course, you feel sympathy for this guy.
- 41:08It's he's he's like trapped in this situation almost and it
- 41:14takes a tremendous amount of strength to to step away from
- 41:19that. Emotionally and and move
- 41:23forward, and actually do something about it and address
- 41:25it. That's so so, so difficult.
- 41:29And I have to believe that it's because of everything that's at
- 41:35stake. So to speak.
- 41:36But what would you really lose? What would you?
- 41:39What would you really lose if he stepped away?
- 41:40You know, it's like Okay, you're not the the the couple anymore,
- 41:46you know, but like everyone knows that the marriage isn't
- 41:49working. Anyway just and I feel so bad
- 41:55for the guy. So I know we've spoken at length
- 41:57about this but I think the reason why it's interesting is
- 41:59because of not specifically the incident itself, but what it
- 42:02represents in terms of relationships, do you know what
- 42:05I mean? And like the things you can take
- 42:08from it and learn from it because even to this day, think
- 42:11things keep coming out about it and Developments and stuff like
- 42:14that. And I look at it.
- 42:18You know, because I mean you're a mature young man.
- 42:21Like I'm older person. I'm nearly 30 now.
- 42:24I'm like 10:29 in May when I look at a situation like that, I
- 42:28don't laugh at things like that anymore.
- 42:30When it first happened I saw it. I initially I was a bit like
- 42:35shocked, there was a bit of laughing.
- 42:37I'll be honest because I was like, what the fuck but then I
- 42:40sort of sat down and thought about it and I was like this is
- 42:43not funny. This is Disturbing to be honest.
- 42:49And that, and that's the reality being in the medulla, isn't it?
- 42:52When you sit down and really think about things.
- 42:56It's hard to do. I think we're all guilty of it,
- 42:58sometimes we see things out of context.
- 43:00We see things just happen and our initial reaction is what it
- 43:03is. But when you sit down and really
- 43:05dig into something, then you begin to realize, like, oh my
- 43:08God, things are like this, you know, and it's, it's just, it's
- 43:14just part of Being Human, I think.
- 43:16But certainly, I do think, as you get older, your lens of how
- 43:19you look at things changes, everything, right?
- 43:25I wanted to know. Little bit more about kind of
- 43:28you outside of your podcast. So what will come back than
- 43:31what? I've got.
- 43:31A few more questions about the podcast but I just want to focus
- 43:34on you for a minute. Like What's your background like
- 43:40we're because clearly obviously you've got a gift for
- 43:43communication, you've got a gift for being able to talk to
- 43:45people. It does that come from studying?
- 43:47Does that come from? I don't know.
- 43:49Maybe something you learned in childhood or that.
- 43:51Where does that come from? Like, who are you?
- 43:54Exactly, who are you? I think it comes from.
- 43:58It's almost like a childish innocence of just asking why,
- 44:02you know, I think that's really what it is.
- 44:04When you really think about it is you know like for example the
- 44:06you and me. I mean we both I saw Will Smith
- 44:10slap Chris Rock and instead of laughing or and instead of just
- 44:13gasping really mean. The first question, that came to
- 44:15my head was like why, you know? And it since I was a kid, I'd
- 44:18always kind of asked that question a lot annoyingly, but I
- 44:23guess I just never let go but it also has a lot to do with where
- 44:28my parents are from there from Honduras, which is a cool.
- 44:31They're from a, it's believe, it's still classified as third
- 44:35world country, lots of I think it had the highest rate of
- 44:38Homicide in the world. So I basically had to you know
- 44:42just learn a lot and be able to make accurate and quick
- 44:47judgments about their surroundings, pretty quickly,
- 44:49just to be able to, you know, live healthily, they had to work
- 44:55very hard and they pass these just the Knowledge onto me for
- 45:00example, just like simple things like, don't leave your purse out
- 45:03or don't leave your book bag out in the middle of your car.
- 45:05So I'm just going to break your window.
- 45:06Grab it all these things. They taught me at a very, very
- 45:09young age and they taught me how to be able to assess situations
- 45:13very quickly. And, you know, I kind of got to
- 45:16asking them. I was, like, why?
- 45:17Like, why do you, you know, why do you do that?
- 45:20And then, you know, I kind of they broke it down with me and
- 45:23then, I think, you know, having those conversations with my
- 45:25parents kind of stemmed out into having it with other people,
- 45:28that would say, I had the exact same thing with my mom growing
- 45:32up, and she was criticized heavily for it by everyone
- 45:36around her like, oh, you should talk to him like that.
- 45:40He's just a boy. He's just a child, he's not an
- 45:42adult, but I was exactly the same as you every five minutes.
- 45:46Why why? And I'd get shit school for it.
- 45:48I get shit from family for that, you know, because a lot of
- 45:52people older than you what these years ago would be like because
- 45:58Is because it just is. And it's like, I'm sorry.
- 46:01But that's not get such an unsatisfying answer.
- 46:03I actually like, and you actually want to know why, you
- 46:06know, like it's what it's like, it's like saying something to
- 46:09someone like don't press the red button.
- 46:11Well, I mean, you shouldn't have even told me that the bed button
- 46:14exists. Now I'm never going to stop
- 46:16asking you about red button. Like, you know, I'm gonna push
- 46:19it 15 times, you know, this is special, is that Curiosity?
- 46:23Kind of it grew to me. And this way, Say we're in this
- 46:31funny way. I guess, who I just talked to
- 46:32you on the phone, I basically asked them why that's pretty
- 46:35much what it comes down to it. I'd say so auu study, do you
- 46:41have like a degree that you're studying or international
- 46:45relations? Okay.
- 46:46So that is that related to politics or is it geography, the
- 46:52general Global state of the of the planet Earth.
- 46:55Pretty much any you. Looking to get into politics
- 46:59yourself, or, or do you have like a different picture?
- 47:06Not really sure. Still figuring out.
- 47:08Well, there's plenty of time. I can tell you that it took me a
- 47:11while to figure out what I wanted to do probably till Put
- 47:15about two or three years ago that I truly figured it out, to
- 47:18be honest. So most of my 20s, I was like,
- 47:22yeah, squint when you settle down.
- 47:26Well, I mean I never so as a rule, oh, I take that back the
- 47:33thing. You decide I do.
- 47:35You know what I mean? I did not mean that no worries
- 47:37mentors. I'll just, I'll just being
- 47:39picky. I got my degree, I did
- 47:44management with marketing because I hated working in
- 47:47customer services. I'll keep the story short guys,
- 47:49because I know you've heard it a million times but he asked me.
- 47:52So I'm going to answer, you know, what's in the field, a
- 47:56little bit in corporate, and it was okay.
- 47:59Originally, it was amazing because I was like, wow, they're
- 48:01going to pay me to just do this. Marketing is great in that
- 48:04sense, but then after a while I got a bit disillusioned because
- 48:07I wasn't doing anything creative, I wasn't doing
- 48:09anything that I wanted to do the ignites So and that's the key
- 48:13you have to do stuff for work. That ignites your soul and some
- 48:17people can put those things aside.
- 48:19They can go for a paycheck because you know what?
- 48:23Like it pays enough and there's they live for everything else
- 48:27but I just couldn't do that. I couldn't do the whole nine to
- 48:29five and not be excited about what I do.
- 48:34So basically my goals are acting voice acting podcasting music,
- 48:41and the curfew Other things, anything creative, basically,
- 48:44and my day job is just like freelancing and Recruitment and
- 48:48marketing, and sales. So range of different things and
- 48:54I'm happy, I truly am, but my mind is always looking forward
- 49:00and like, how can it be better? I would love.
- 49:03I would love to be able to do the things like this for a
- 49:05living because I feel like this isn't work.
- 49:07This is a joy. This is I love this.
- 49:11I love having conversations with other people.
- 49:16And I think that, you know, I see, I see, as I'm sure you have
- 49:19like Heroes that, you know, you look up to who make it work, who
- 49:23managed to get a living from doing things like this and you
- 49:26never to me, that's inspiring to myself.
- 49:28But I think to answer your question, fully that the moment
- 49:32that it clicked was Around the time that I decided to get back
- 49:38into being creative, which is around 2019.
- 49:41Incidentally, when I first started acting and from that
- 49:45point onwards, I was like, okay I'm going to make a commitment
- 49:48to pursuing these creative goals, whatever, you know, I'll
- 49:51keep doing whatever it is. I need to do to make the bills
- 49:54come in, but I am also always looking at other ways to make
- 49:59Revenue because I believe that you should always have several
- 50:03different, revenue streams, no matter what.
- 50:05Lee these days if the pandemic taught us anything, it's that
- 50:08like, no job is secure, doesn't matter what you're doing to have
- 50:12a lot of different revenue streams and like watch your back
- 50:15like look for you, look out for yourself first and foremost, you
- 50:18know, when companies say stuff like oh we're a family, don't
- 50:22listen to that bullshit. That's would you would you kick
- 50:25throughout your family when they need you most know?
- 50:30Come on I got family when it suits them that's very much
- 50:36that's a whole other conversation but yeah I mean
- 50:40suppose the point here is that like that moment when you figure
- 50:44it out what you want to do, I think it comes for a process of
- 50:49trying different things but it also comes from understanding
- 50:54Who You Are. And what you are best at, what
- 50:59you contribute and I can't speak for yourself.
- 51:01But I mean after having checked out your show and what you do,
- 51:06you clearly have a gift for communication.
- 51:08And that's something that whatever you do in life, you'll
- 51:12probably find that it involves a lot of communication for me.
- 51:16I realized that everything I do involves creativity and also
- 51:23communication as well. Those two things.
- 51:26It's like the thread that links everything together.
- 51:31There will always be something within your life that links
- 51:33everything together and it makes sense like why you've done the
- 51:36things you've done to get to this point and why you continue
- 51:39to do the things that you do? Like, I don't believe any time
- 51:42is truly Wastin. It's just getting you to where
- 51:44you need to go, but you have to learn those lessons first.
- 51:48And yeah, it's an interesting journey and you know, whatever
- 51:52you end up doing your look back and it will all make sense.
- 51:58Got a son like a right old man. Now it happens.
- 52:02It hits you one day, you know. I it wasn't that long ago that I
- 52:06was just the Young, The Young fool and now I'm the old fool
- 52:14pendulum around there. I guess it doesn't get people
- 52:16out there. They'll always be someone older
- 52:17than you. They'll be like, oh, you or your
- 52:19little baby? You're and I'm like, I don't
- 52:22feel it, like I do. because that's the thing that they don't
- 52:27teach you as well is that you don't suddenly become an adult,
- 52:32you just get older, the years keep coming and they don't stop
- 52:35coming and You in your mind. And I've seen this time and time
- 52:41again, that there's people, I know that like in their 60s and
- 52:4370s and they have like the mind of a 20 or 30 year old and not,
- 52:46not like, they're immature, but like they could conquer the
- 52:49world, you know, they still have that that fire.
- 52:52But unfortunately, the body just keeps aging and you have to
- 52:56accept that change as he can't fight it but at the same time,
- 53:02it's like We we just, we just keep getting older and it's our
- 53:07choice, whether we learn or not, like sometimes you'll meet
- 53:09people in life that like and I'm sure you meet them sometimes
- 53:12where they're like 30, 40, 50, 60 and they're so mature and
- 53:16you're like, how is this possible?
- 53:19I don't understand how you could go through life and not grow at
- 53:23all. Like what, but I think that
- 53:25comes down to choice. I honestly do.
- 53:28Yes. Yes, it's a choice and it's a
- 53:30matter of self-reflection. It's off reflection isn't easy
- 53:34because the brain and the brains first mechanism usually for
- 53:39whenever you're confronted with things that you may not want to
- 53:42be confronted with is to be defensive, you don't you, you
- 53:45don't think the hardest thing about it is I have to tell
- 53:47yourself that you were wrong and you have to make accurate
- 53:54judgments on how you could have been better about it either with
- 53:58somebody else's guidance or on your own.
- 53:59But either Egypt, you want to be want to be good at doing it on
- 54:02your own, but Of course, guidance, never never hurts, but
- 54:05you always want to, it's kind of hard to get to that point.
- 54:08I'd say take this a lot of A lot of humility.
- 54:13Humility is a little bit hard to come by sometimes.
- 54:17Tell me about it over the years. I've seen that it's just like is
- 54:21it really that difficult to apologize and just own your
- 54:25mistakes that people act like that's such a big deal?
- 54:28I mean, it is a big deal in since, you know, represent what
- 54:31it represents and why it's important.
- 54:33But the actual action of it, people act like it's like a
- 54:36dishonor on. It's like, no, it's just being
- 54:38human like you, you're not perfect.
- 54:40No one is perfect. and yeah, it sucks, you know, thinking about
- 54:45mistakes, you've made people, you've hurt, you know, but that
- 54:48is part of life and part of growth and all you can really do
- 54:51is the best you can, in that particular moment and make a
- 54:57sort of promise that you're going to learn from those
- 55:01things. Both to yourself and to others.
- 55:04And, you know, it's a journeyman, I don't know.
- 55:08I think, I think people a lot of the time they get too caught up
- 55:11in things like oh who's right, you know, and Justice.
- 55:14And don't get me wrong, that there are times in life, when
- 55:17when Justice is important, like when there has been a true
- 55:20Injustice against someone based on things like race or religion
- 55:24or gender or something like that, that's different.
- 55:28But when we're talking about, like, just the day-to-day things
- 55:32that happen, it's Like that's life man.
- 55:36That's you know, you just kind of gotta like accept that Life
- 55:40happens and you need to learn and do the best you can with in
- 55:44that moment and keep moving forward.
- 55:47So you're a fan of rock climbing and fitness.
- 55:54What does fitness mean to you? And what kind of lessons have
- 55:59you learned that you apply to life through Fitness all the
- 56:04time and every single last day that I exercise just all it
- 56:09really it too. You exercise really means is
- 56:11that it's a test of when you're in a moment where you're
- 56:15struggling and you feel like your body is just giving up on
- 56:18you. It what it really comes down to
- 56:20is, it's you find out who you are.
- 56:23You're the person that tries or the person that gives up.
- 56:27And that's really what it comes down to it.
- 56:29And keep the key word is try, you don't have to succeed, but
- 56:35you either try or you don't and it's really what it comes down
- 56:39to and those Specific moments. I find is that sometimes I give
- 56:44up and it's okay to give up sometimes, but you always want
- 56:50to be the type of person that tries under every single last
- 56:53circumstance. Sometimes some days you're not
- 56:54going to feel it. Some days you're not gonna walk
- 56:57to do it, but it's all about just trying.
- 56:59And I think that's what Fitness really is every day.
- 57:03It's just a test of trying and, of course you reap physical
- 57:06benefits, feel stronger. You feel happier.
- 57:11Improved chemical balances in your body to be happier when you
- 57:16look in the mirror, all these things are positives but really
- 57:18what it comes down to. For me it's more of a mental
- 57:20test where I get to find out who I am that day, if I make sense.
- 57:26Yeah, I'm totally agree with all of that and I just keep thinking
- 57:30like, how are you so wise at this age?
- 57:32Like, well, look at think is just like amazing parents and
- 57:36just, you've just hit the ground running when it comes to
- 57:40learning life lessons at a young age, it's seriously amazing.
- 57:43Like, every human being is different in terms of how we
- 57:48take things on and learn and stuff, but I don't think I
- 57:50really started learning proper life lessons till my mid-20s
- 57:55like, when I had time to kind of Just reflect on everything that
- 57:59happened in the past four or five years and like decompress
- 58:03and actually absorb the lessons and learn them.
- 58:06You know, it's just, it's just amazing.
- 58:08Like, honestly, like kudos to you could ask your parents.
- 58:12Well done. Thank you.
- 58:17Throughout the course of producing your show would have
- 58:19been the kind of favorite conversations you had so far.
- 58:26This this question, Changes because I feel like every day
- 58:30you wake up in a different mood, if I make sense today, I woke up
- 58:33and kind of like woke up little bit late.
- 58:38But I think the reason why this conversation sticks out to me is
- 58:41because like, I was a little annoyed.
- 58:45I woke up late and then I remember I had this conversation
- 58:47with this guy who had terminal cancer and he was talking about
- 58:55and it's the way this man came off too.
- 58:57It was in saying he had this certain people have certain or
- 59:01is whenever it is that you speak to them.
- 59:03And you can truly tell if they're happy or not and this,
- 59:07Sky was very, very at peace with his diagnosis and he was talking
- 59:12to me about it. And he was telling me that, you
- 59:16know, That when he when he found out that he was diagnosed, he
- 59:20got a sense of Peace because he knew how he was going to die.
- 59:23He knew that cancer was going to shut down his systems one by
- 59:26one. Oh he also said there's two
- 59:29questions in life. Is there life after death and
- 59:32how am I going to die? He said the first one he doesn't
- 59:34know but the second one. Oh he said the first one is
- 59:38there life after death. He said, I'll let you know and
- 59:42then the second one he said, But he has the answer to that
- 59:47question and that really it's the it's the peacefulness.
- 59:52It was the wholeness. It was the acceptance that he
- 59:53had about that question. I really am.
- 59:56But I think about sometimes I'm like, man, like I wonder if he
- 1:00:00knows why I told him so I hope he knows.
- 1:00:03But I was like damn like that that it's just that that
- 1:00:07peacefulness and that wholeness that acceptance is what kind of
- 1:00:12motivating in a sense. You know it's a motivating to
- 1:00:14want to reach that level of maturity in Acceptance of being
- 1:00:21someone, that's able to be in that situation.
- 1:00:23And like you said, again it's a choice to choose not to soak
- 1:00:29about it, you know, and it's it's it's a wonderful example
- 1:00:33of. I guess how I want to live.
- 1:00:35That makes sense. And there are these moments in
- 1:00:39life that are quite poignant or Then I went one where we don't
- 1:00:47even necessarily have to be reflecting on things.
- 1:00:49We can just be in that moment, you know.
- 1:00:52So I think of times when I've just been walk along like a
- 1:00:56nature trail petting, a dog hugging my mother, I don't know
- 1:00:59something like that and it's like a just a beautiful moment
- 1:01:06where you're at, peace with everything and suddenly you stop
- 1:01:11worrying about all the stuff that doesn't matter and you
- 1:01:13think about what does matter No. See that's different for
- 1:01:17everyone but I imagine in that particular gentleman's mindset.
- 1:01:23it's like, Nothing. There's nothing to worry about
- 1:01:26anymore, you know. Now it's just about enjoying
- 1:01:31yourself. and taking each day as it comes which we should be
- 1:01:36doing anyway, you know, when I have a bad day and sometimes
- 1:01:41it'll be a few days, sometimes it'll be a week sometimes it
- 1:01:44won't be for a long time, but I've started to tell myself is
- 1:01:50Tomorrow is a new day. Better times are coming and
- 1:01:55there's always some silver lining to be seen or I think
- 1:02:00it's important to give yourself a sense of perspective.
- 1:02:03You know what, when I start getting a bit low and I get a
- 1:02:05bit self-deprecating and bit miserable I start to sort of not
- 1:02:10like get annoyed at myself, but I sort of sit down and I'm like,
- 1:02:14dude, gain some perspective right now, this is what you
- 1:02:17have. And then I start thinking about
- 1:02:21what I have, and I'm like, I'm, I'm blessed.
- 1:02:23I'm very lucky to have this. And suddenly that feeling of
- 1:02:27sadness, just it doesn't trickle away straight away.
- 1:02:31But it starts to kind of calm down.
- 1:02:36It does because you start to remember what's important.
- 1:02:40And I think that's, that's the key like when we're truly
- 1:02:43relaxed, It's beautiful. I think about a time when you
- 1:02:47when you bring me your buddies or someone you love or whatever
- 1:02:49and they're really stressed and you manage to calm them down and
- 1:02:53then they're just in that moment with you and you're enjoying the
- 1:02:56conversation and it's like a personality transformation.
- 1:03:04See that person in their best light and you get the best from
- 1:03:07them and just in that moment and not worried about tomorrow.
- 1:03:12What happened yesterday, they're just there with you enjoying
- 1:03:15that moment and I did not should always be the kind of goal, I
- 1:03:24don't know. That's what I am for a lot of
- 1:03:26the time is to try to do my best to be in that headspace you know
- 1:03:30and really make the most of everything that's going on.
- 1:03:32Because the reality is life is short, you know, you don't know
- 1:03:37how long you've got and life can change in the blink of an eye.
- 1:03:43So you've got to be present and making the most of what you have
- 1:03:50and yeah since you're a very wise man, as such a young age,
- 1:03:56I've got a couple of questions why I ask every guest these
- 1:03:59questions, but I'm particularly intrigued to Hey, what you have
- 1:04:04to say what's the best advice you've ever received?
- 1:04:18The best advice. The best you can is good enough.
- 1:04:31Damn, the way you put that sub for.
- 1:04:34It's brilliant. Like I've heard similar things
- 1:04:37even recently, but Yeah. I bet that's a great way to word
- 1:04:43it because the the similar advice I've heard is you know
- 1:04:46like the best on that particular day is the best you can do but
- 1:04:49that's Hearing that hearing someone say it's good enough.
- 1:04:55You're good enough. This is good enough.
- 1:04:57That that's so important. Like I was I was I was given
- 1:05:00someone a compliment earlier so not compliment.
- 1:05:04We're me and a few friends were trying to make someone feel
- 1:05:08better because they've been let down by a friend.
- 1:05:11And we just kept piling on the compliments but they were
- 1:05:13sincere and we meant them when we're like, hey, you know, it's
- 1:05:16going to be okay, this is the way it is.
- 1:05:18And, you know, if this person doesn't appreciate you We
- 1:05:21appreciate you, because this is what you are, and your brilliant
- 1:05:24Bubba buck. And they messaged me afterwards
- 1:05:26to saying, thank you. Like, I feel so much better.
- 1:05:29And I sat there, and I thought about like the impact of that,
- 1:05:32because this person will feel like this again, you know, they,
- 1:05:35Unfortunately, they have confidence issues as many of us
- 1:05:38do and they, but they they're a very bubbly.
- 1:05:42Warm friendly, happy person. It's kind of sad when they get
- 1:05:45sad because it's like, you know, these people are so precious.
- 1:05:48You know, like that bubbliness is something that That.
- 1:05:53It's a beautiful thing in this existence, in this life that we
- 1:05:56have you know, to be positive to be happy to be motivated,
- 1:06:02whatever. You know, it's hard.
- 1:06:04It's hard to keep that up and it's it's a thing.
- 1:06:07You got to hold on to because it's sacred.
- 1:06:09And the point is It's just good to be reminded of these things.
- 1:06:15Every once in awhile that people say, oh words actions speak
- 1:06:18louder than words. So I think it's important to
- 1:06:20hear the word. Sometimes I think it's important
- 1:06:23to hear like hey I'm proud of you.
- 1:06:25You matter you're good enough, I love you whatever.
- 1:06:29Like all of these things are so important to hear because it
- 1:06:33reaffirms our own beliefs but it also Just makes us feel a
- 1:06:39certain way which we need sometimes.
- 1:06:41I think, thank you very much for sharing that.
- 1:06:46And what's the biggest life lesson you've learned so far?
- 1:07:05I think that the biggest one I learned so far is that it's
- 1:07:09always easier to do the wrong thing and the right thing Oh you
- 1:07:15mean in terms of choosing to do the wrong thing?
- 1:07:18Like the morally wrong thing? Yes.
- 1:07:22Hmm. If that makes sense?
- 1:07:25No, for sure. I just want to make sure I
- 1:07:27understood that correctly. Yeah because I agree with that
- 1:07:29concept, totally. We often get These situations
- 1:07:36come up in life. Then there's like, whoa, okay,
- 1:07:38we can lie or we can tell the street for example and often
- 1:07:41lying as a lot easier. But then People forget, you
- 1:07:45know, lying is disrespectful. It's it's someone on my podcast.
- 1:07:50Recently put it amazingly, I've never thought about this before.
- 1:07:53They said, when you lie, you Bob someone of the truth, you robbed
- 1:07:58someone of their reality, that was it you robbed?
- 1:08:02Someone of reality? And I thought that I was like,
- 1:08:05damn, because some and sometimes by doing that you shift, their
- 1:08:11reality for years potentially, they can believe Something to
- 1:08:14beat and they can base all their decisions and everything on that
- 1:08:18one thing. And then suddenly ride, the
- 1:08:22facade has been shattered and it's like, wow.
- 1:08:26So, yeah, I totally agree with that concept and it's just the
- 1:08:31harder. I often find that the harder
- 1:08:33things to do in life, long term, always the best, you know, like
- 1:08:39when you when you choose that, that more difficult path that,
- 1:08:43you know, is right, you feel in your heart as right.
- 1:08:46But I can think of so many times when I feel uncomfortable
- 1:08:50because I know I need to tell someone something they need to
- 1:08:53hear like it's the truth or you know, I like it.
- 1:08:56Comfortable truth or or something?
- 1:08:58And I'm like oh you feel it? Like it's so it would be so easy
- 1:09:02to just lie and I'm like no. You need to just do the right
- 1:09:06thing and then you do it and then often it's not until later
- 1:09:12that it becomes that you see the benefit in the impact of that
- 1:09:16often at first. Yeah, the person doesn't want to
- 1:09:18hear and it's not great to hear but they'll respect you so much
- 1:09:21more forgiving them, the truth given them what was right?
- 1:09:25Rather than what they expect to hear.
- 1:09:28I think a lot about. That's the thing about me and
- 1:09:30telling the truth. Like, I just tell the truth
- 1:09:32because like a it's a lot easier that way.
- 1:09:35B is the right thing to do and see it's funny like how often
- 1:09:39people don't expect that. You know like oh, okay.
- 1:09:44Wow. Is that people expect to be
- 1:09:46light is so bad. Anyway, as we draw things to a
- 1:09:53close for today. Do you have any upcoming
- 1:09:54projects or some final thoughts that you'd like to share with
- 1:09:57our listeners? We just say that I'm just
