- 0:27Speaker 1: we should always take that moment to say thank you
- 0:30Speaker 1: and remember them on the special day. Eight hundred three
- 0:32Speaker 1: to two one zero seven ten eight hundred three to

- 0:54Speaker 1: many of the call letters that are housed in these
- 0:56Speaker 1: buildings since I was a kid, and so to walk
- 0:59Speaker 1: in these hell halls and see some of the personalities
- 1:02Speaker 1: that I listen to, especially the great Mark Simone, please
- 1:06Speaker 1: get I get goosebump sitting in the chair. So I promise, Mark,

- 1:14Speaker 1: all right. Seven ten WI the Voice of New York again.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten. Eight hundred
- 1:21Speaker 1: three to two one zero seven ten. You may have
- 1:24Speaker 1: heard about the hantavirus. Everybody's talking about hantavirus, any bola, hantavirus,
- 1:29Speaker 1: any bola. And you know I heard it over the
- 1:33Speaker 1: weekend a lot of a lot of newscasts, and having
- 1:35Speaker 1: been a news anchor for the majority of my career,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and look, we can't not report a story like that.
- 1:42Speaker 1: You have to do it, but you have to do
- 1:45Speaker 1: it not in headline terroristic fashion. You have to tell
- 1:50Speaker 1: the whole story. Is hantavirus on the rise right now
- 1:53Speaker 1: throughout the country. Yes, here's the part they don't tell
- 1:57Speaker 1: you before you get. Nervous virus cases rise every year
- 2:04Speaker 1: at this time of the year. Do you know why, Well,
- 2:07Speaker 1: let me give you a hint how as to how
- 2:09Speaker 1: hantavirus gets spread, And then you could probably put two
- 2:12Speaker 1: and two together the only way to spread handavirus well,
- 2:16Speaker 1: with one exception actually the very rare type. But ninety
- 2:19Speaker 1: nine percent of the time, the way to spread handed
- 2:21Speaker 1: virus is with contact with rat droppings and rat urine,
- 2:26Speaker 1: rat feces, et cetera. So this is springtime, right, This
- 2:30Speaker 1: is when we clean up the garage, we clean out
- 2:32Speaker 1: the attic well. During the cold winter, the rats were
- 2:36Speaker 1: nesting and they gave birth to little baby rats and mice.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Right now, So all the built up feces and urine
- 2:43Speaker 1: that's dry. Okay, you go to clean out your garage.
- 2:46Speaker 1: In the corner, you move a box, You say, what
- 2:47Speaker 1: is that? And you sweep it up, and all of
- 2:49Speaker 1: a sudden, dust goes in the air that could be
- 2:52Speaker 1: dried urine, dried feces from rats. That's how you can
- 2:57Speaker 1: catch it if the rat was infected with handavirusrus. Now
- 3:01Speaker 1: it became a newss it. And because in the last
- 3:03Speaker 1: month or so, we had a ship that had a
- 3:07Speaker 1: bunch of passengers and apparently there were rats on the
- 3:09Speaker 1: ship and they got the virus from the rats on
- 3:11Speaker 1: the ship. But normally you do not have to panic
- 3:15Speaker 1: about that. And yes, cases are on the rise, but
- 3:18Speaker 1: the chances of you catching it are slim. And it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: not because we're gonna all get attacked by the hand
- 3:24Speaker 1: of virus. So I just want people to catch their
- 3:26Speaker 1: breath and understand. Yes, it's on the rise. Yes you
- 3:28Speaker 1: should be careful if you cleaning out the garage, where gloves,
- 3:31Speaker 1: where a mask, maybe goggles, take a shower after you
- 3:34Speaker 1: clean out the garage, or have a professional do it.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Make sure you disinfect everything. But no, there is no
- 3:40Speaker 1: reason to go into panic mode. It's ten thirty two
- 3:43Speaker 1: right now, seven to ten WR the Voice of New York.
- 3:46Speaker 1: We go to our busy phones. Gene and Toms River.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Good morning, Good morning, Ken.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Just to let you know that I am a fan
- 3:55Speaker 2: of yours and I wish you were back on TV
- 3:58Speaker 2: or on the radio in in New York area. I
- 4:01Speaker 2: lived in New Jersey. I met you twenty five years ago. Ken.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You were on thirty ninth Street in Brooklyn. I said
- 4:09Speaker 2: to you, you look your bed looking in person that
- 4:13Speaker 2: you are on TV.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Well, I'm so glad my mother sent you that check, Jean,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and that's very nice of you. Jean, what what was?
- 4:21Speaker 2: What was?
- 4:21Speaker 1: I do you remember what I was in Brooklyn? For
- 4:23Speaker 1: there you were working.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I don't know what you had your microphone, but you
- 4:27Speaker 2: had it all for the when I spoke to you.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But I don't remember exactly you know what you were
- 4:32Speaker 2: doing there. I was still I had my call being repaired.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's why I was on thirty ninth Street. Can like
- 4:38Speaker 2: to say something. Sure, I am a New York Mets fan,
- 4:42Speaker 2: disappointed New York Met fan, but I still miss Kate
- 4:46Speaker 2: Smith singing God Bless America at the end of the
- 4:51Speaker 2: seventh in the Yankee Stadium. I don't know whatever happened.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I know she must have said something when she was
- 4:58Speaker 2: young to hurt some people. But I growing up in
- 5:03Speaker 2: New York, I'm sure you said and I said something
- 5:07Speaker 2: to hurt somebody in anger that we regret. I still
- 5:12Speaker 2: miss her voice. I don't like Donald Merril whatever is.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I forgot his name already, but I just wish they
- 5:20Speaker 2: would put it back on to sing God Bless America.
- 5:24Speaker 1: She was. I mean, she was one of the classic
- 5:26Speaker 1: voices Broadway voice in a Kate Smith and God Bless Marraga.
- 5:31Speaker 1: All the old tape recordings of her singing that powerful
- 5:34Speaker 1: God Bless America. It seems like we've gotten away from that.
- 5:37Speaker 1: You notice they don't do a lot of any anything
- 5:39Speaker 1: that mentions God. They try to get away from whatever.
- 5:42Speaker 1: But I'm within and yes, my family are all Mets
- 5:44Speaker 1: fans too, so we're suffering the pain right now as well.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Maybe maybe it is a mayor's curse. You believe it's
- 5:50Speaker 1: a mayor's curse, cause on.
- 5:51Speaker 2: This I think so. Well.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Gee, I thank you so much for calling. Let's remember
- 5:58Speaker 1: the people who sacrifice their lives for us on this
- 6:01Speaker 1: Memorial Day and hopefully you have some time with family
- 6:04Speaker 1: and we appreciate the colleging. Thank you so much for
- 6:06Speaker 1: calling in
