- 0:00Welcome to Pamoja Podcast, the place where stronger
- 0:04lives are built, faith is strengthened, hearts
- 0:07are encouraged, and Christ -centered homes are
- 0:11shaped through ordinary conversations that become
- 0:14extraordinary encounters with God's truth. One
- 0:18conversation, one story, one revelation at a
- 0:23time. I'm your host, Barry Mwamba. And history
- 0:27has always fascinated us. Generation after generation,
- 0:32we write books about remarkable men and women.
- 0:35We build museums in their honor. We produce documentaries
- 0:38about their lives. We study their leadership.
- 0:42We admire their courage. We celebrate their achievements.
- 0:47Names like Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years
- 0:51in prison before becoming the first democratically
- 0:55elected president of South Africa. Abraham Lincoln.
- 0:59who endured repeated failures, personal heartbreak,
- 1:04and political defeat before leading his nation
- 1:07through one of its darkest chapters. Winston
- 1:11Churchill, whose years in political isolation
- 1:15prepared him for the hour Britain needed him
- 1:18most. Corey Ten Boom, whose imprisonment became
- 1:23a testimony of forgiveness that continues to
- 1:26inspire millions around the world. History remembers
- 1:30their victories. History celebrates their influence.
- 1:34History honors their legacy. But history often
- 1:37forgets the fire. It remembers the throne, but
- 1:42rarely the prison. It remembers the crown, but
- 1:46rarely the cave. It remembers the applause, but
- 1:49rarely the tears. It remembers the promotion,
- 1:54but rarely the preparation. Yet if you carefully
- 1:57study the lives of those who left a lasting mark
- 2:00on the world, you begin to notice something remarkable.
- 2:05Great influence is rarely born in comfort. Character
- 2:09is rarely formed in convenience. Enduring leadership
- 2:13is almost always forged in adversity. The question
- 2:18is, why? Is it merely coincidence? that so many
- 2:23lives of significance pass through seasons of
- 2:27suffering before reaching seasons of influence?
- 2:30Or is there a deeper principle, one that existed
- 2:34long before history books were written, long
- 2:37before leadership seminars were created, long
- 2:41before psychologists studied resilience, and
- 2:44long before the world gave it a name? Open the
- 2:48scriptures. and an extraordinary pattern begins
- 2:51to emerge. A young man named Joseph dreamed of
- 2:56leadership, but before the palace, there was
- 3:00a pit. Before the pit could be forgotten, there
- 3:03was slavery. Before slavery ended, there was
- 3:07false accusation. Before freedom arrived, there
- 3:11was prison, and only after the prison came the
- 3:15throne. David was anointed king. Long before
- 3:19he ever wore a crown, between the anointing and
- 3:23the throne stood giants, jealousy, betrayal,
- 3:28wilderness, and caves. Moses carried a deliverer's
- 3:33calling, but 40 years passed in a desert before
- 3:37he ever stood before Pharaoh. Esther carried
- 3:40the destiny of a nation, but first she lived
- 3:44as an orphan, an exile. A young woman whose future
- 3:49seemed hidden from everyone except God. Daniel's
- 3:54road to influence passed through Babylon. Paul's
- 3:57road to the nations passed through years of hidden
- 4:00preparation. Peter's leadership was forged through
- 4:05failure, brokenness, and restoration. And above
- 4:09all, Jesus Christ, before receiving the name
- 4:13above every name, walked the road to Calvary.
- 4:16Do you see it? Different people. Different generations.
- 4:21Different cultures. Different assignments. Yet
- 4:24the same pattern. The throne never came before
- 4:28the forge. Because throughout scripture, God
- 4:32reveals something that changes the way we understand
- 4:36our own lives. He is not merely interested in
- 4:40giving people assignments. He is first committed.
- 4:44to preparing the people who will carry them.
- 4:49Perhaps that is why some of the darkest seasons
- 4:52in the lives of God's people became the very
- 4:56places where he was shaping them for something
- 4:59they could not yet see. The prison was not separate
- 5:04from Joseph's assignment. The wilderness was
- 5:08not separate from Moses' calling. The cave was
- 5:12not separate from David's kingdom. The cross
- 5:15was not the end of Christ's mission. It became
- 5:19the doorway through which redemption entered
- 5:22the world. What if the fire you have been praying
- 5:26to escape is the very place where God is preparing
- 5:30you for your future assignment? What if your
- 5:34greatest season of confusion is not evidence
- 5:38that God has abandoned his purpose? but evidence
- 5:42that He has already begun preparing you for it.
- 5:46Today, we begin a journey through one of the
- 5:49most beautiful, encouraging, and life -changing
- 5:53patterns found in all of scripture. A journey
- 5:57that will forever change the way you look at
- 6:00trials, waiting, disappointment, and even your
- 6:05greatest battles. Because if the Bible teaches
- 6:08us anything, It is this, God never wastes the
- 6:13forge, because he never wastes the assignment.
- 6:18There is one question that has echoed through
- 6:21every generation, a question whispered through
- 6:24tears, asked in hospital rooms, spoken in lonely
- 6:29prison cells, cried out in seasons of disappointment,
- 6:33and repeated by countless believers who sincerely
- 6:36love God, Lord. Why am I going through this?
- 6:41Why the delay? Why the rejection? Why the misunderstanding?
- 6:46Why the betrayal? Why the waiting? Why the fire?
- 6:50If you have called me, why does the road seem
- 6:53so difficult? If you are with me, why does it
- 6:57feel like I am walking through darkness? Those
- 7:01questions are not new. Joseph asked them. David
- 7:05lived them. Jeremiah cried them. Job wrestled
- 7:09with them even John the Baptist sitting in prison
- 7:13sent messengers to Jesus asking Are you the one
- 7:17who was to come or should we expect someone else?
- 7:21Faithful people have always wrestled with difficult
- 7:25seasons, but perhaps We have been asking the
- 7:29wrong question Perhaps a question is not Lord.
- 7:33Why am I going through this? Perhaps a question
- 7:36should be Lord, what are you preparing me for?
- 7:41That one question changes everything, because
- 7:45God does not see our lives the way we do. We
- 7:49measure our lives by events. God measures our
- 7:52lives by preparation. We celebrate arrival. God
- 7:57values formation. We become excited about platforms.
- 8:01God is concerned about character. We pray for
- 8:04promotion. God prepares us for responsibility
- 8:08because God knows something we often forget.
- 8:12An assignment is only as effective as the person
- 8:16carrying it. The greatest danger is not receiving
- 8:20an assignment too late. The greatest danger is
- 8:24receiving it too early. Imagine placing the crown
- 8:27of Israel on David's head the day Samuel anointed
- 8:32him. He would have worn the crown without learning
- 8:36humility, without learning dependence upon God,
- 8:40without learning to forgive, without learning
- 8:43to lead, without learning that victory belongs
- 8:46to the Lord. The throne would have destroyed
- 8:51the man. So God did not simply prepare a kingdom
- 8:55for David. God prepared David for the kingdom.
- 9:00The same was true for Joseph. Pharaoh needed
- 9:03someone who could lead Egypt through the greatest
- 9:07famine in history. But dreams alone do not prepare
- 9:11a ruler. Knowledge alone does not prepare a ruler.
- 9:16Even gifting alone does not prepare a ruler.
- 9:20Character does. Wisdom does. Humility does. Faithfulness
- 9:25does. Those qualities cannot be learned in comfort.
- 9:30They are forged. Forged in places where no one
- 9:33applauds. Forged in places where no one notices.
- 9:38Forged in places where only God sees what he
- 9:42is creating. And isn't that exactly how a blacksmith
- 9:47works? He never places steel into the fire because
- 9:51he hates the steel. He places it there because
- 9:54he sees what the steel can become. The fire does
- 9:58not create the vision. The fire reveals it the
- 10:03hammer does not destroy the metal it shapes it
- 10:06again and again and again fire pressure cooling
- 10:11back into the fire more shaping more strengthening
- 10:15until one day what entered the forge as ordinary
- 10:20metal leaves carrying a purpose it could never
- 10:24have fulfilled without the fire perhaps that
- 10:28is why Peter writes Do not be surprised at the
- 10:32fiery trial that has come upon you to test you
- 10:35as though something strange were happening to
- 10:38you. Peter knew he had lived it. The man who
- 10:43once denied Jesus became the apostle who boldly
- 10:47proclaimed Christ before kings and councils.
- 10:51He too had been forged. Throughout scripture,
- 10:56God never calls people because they are already
- 10:59finished. He calls them and then he forms them.
- 11:03He anoints them and then he prepares them. He
- 11:07gives them a promise and then he builds the person
- 11:11who can faithfully carry that promise. That is
- 11:15why the distance between the promise and its
- 11:20fulfillment is often called preparation and maybe
- 11:25That is where some of you are today. You are
- 11:28not being forgotten. You are not being abandoned.
- 11:32You are not living through meaningless delays.
- 11:36You are standing inside the forge. Not because
- 11:40God is punishing you, but because God refuses
- 11:43to send you into your future without first preparing
- 11:48you for it. Because the God who prepares the
- 11:52assignment always prepares the servant before
- 11:56revealing the full weight of the assignment.
- 12:00Now that we understand why God prepares His people,
- 12:03another question naturally arises. How does He
- 12:07do it? Why did Joseph need a prison, David a
- 12:11cave, Moses a wilderness, and Esther an exile?
- 12:16Were those painful seasons merely unfortunate
- 12:19events? or were they carefully woven into God's
- 12:23preparation? Let's open the scriptures and begin
- 12:27with a young dreamer who thought his journey
- 12:31to the throne would begin in a palace, but instead,
- 12:36God led him to a pit. There is something fascinating
- 12:41about the life of Joseph. Most people remember
- 12:44the dreams, the colorful robe, the pit, the prison.
- 12:49the palace, but I believe many people miss the
- 12:52greatest lesson hidden within his story. Joseph's
- 12:56life was never simply moving from one location
- 12:59to another. God was moving Joseph from one version
- 13:04of himself to another. When Joseph received the
- 13:08dreams, he was only 17 years old. He was sincere.
- 13:13He loved God. He possessed extraordinary favor.
- 13:17He carried a divine calling, but although he
- 13:20possessed the dream, the dream had not yet produced
- 13:24the man. The assignment already existed. The
- 13:28person was still being prepared. That changes
- 13:31the entire story, because suddenly, the pit was
- 13:36no longer simply a tragedy. It became the first
- 13:39classroom. Slavery was no longer merely injustice.
- 13:44It became another classroom. Potiphar's house
- 13:48became another classroom. False accusation, another
- 13:52classroom. Prison, another classroom. Every place
- 13:56was teaching Joseph something Egypt never could.
- 14:01Imagine if Joseph had become prime minister the
- 14:04week after receiving the dreams. Would he have
- 14:08understood broken people? Would he have learned
- 14:11humility? Would he have resisted bitterness?
- 14:14Would he have managed power wisely? Would he
- 14:17have recognized that authority belongs to God?
- 14:21Probably not. Because character cannot be downloaded.
- 14:26It must be developed. And development takes time.
- 14:30Sometimes more time than we would ever choose.
- 14:35That is why Genesis never says, God abandoned
- 14:38Joseph. In fact, the Bible repeatedly says something
- 14:43remarkable. The Lord was with Joseph. Notice
- 14:46where scripture says that, not only in the palace,
- 14:49not only during promotion, not only after the
- 14:52dreams came true. It says it in slavery. It says
- 14:56it in prison. God's presence did not wait for
- 15:01Joseph's promotion. His presence accompanied
- 15:05Joseph through the preparation. That alone should
- 15:09encourage someone listening today. Perhaps You
- 15:13have mistaken the absence of promotion for the
- 15:17absence of God. Joseph would tell you those are
- 15:21not the same thing. Sometimes God is closest
- 15:25in the very season where nothing around you appears
- 15:29to be changing. Then there is another detail
- 15:34that has always amazed me. Joseph never stopped
- 15:38being Joseph. He served in Potiphar's house.
- 15:42with excellence. He served in prison with excellence.
- 15:47He interpreted dreams without demanding recognition.
- 15:51He remained faithful when no one was watching.
- 15:55That is one of the greatest marks of someone
- 15:58being forged. Because faithfulness, that depends
- 16:02upon recognition, is not yet mature. True faithfulness
- 16:07continues, whether anyone applauds or not. Joseph
- 16:12did not prepare himself for Pharaoh. He simply
- 16:15remained faithful where God had placed him. And
- 16:19one morning, everything changed. Not because
- 16:23Joseph chased the throne, but because the throne
- 16:27was finally ready for the Joseph. God had finished
- 16:31preparing. Think about that. The palace was never
- 16:36Joseph's miracle. Joseph had become the miracle.
- 16:41The prison had already accomplished its purpose.
- 16:45The forge had completed its work. And when the
- 16:48moment came, God did not need years to elevate
- 16:52Joseph. He did it in a single day. One moment,
- 16:57Joseph was wearing prison clothes. A few hours
- 17:00later, he wore Pharaoh's signet ring. One conversation,
- 17:05one interpretation, one divine appointment. and
- 17:09decades of preparation suddenly became visible.
- 17:14Never confuse the speed of your promotion with
- 17:17the length of God's preparation. He may prepare
- 17:21you for years and then accomplish in one day
- 17:26what no human effort could achieve in a lifetime.
- 17:31That is how God works. He prepares quietly before
- 17:34He reveals publicly. He builds deeply. Before
- 17:38he elevates visibly he forges secretly before
- 17:42he entrusts openly and perhaps that is why The
- 17:47prison was never Joseph's greatest obstacle it
- 17:51became the doorway to his future assignment Joseph
- 17:57was not the exception. He was the pattern because
- 18:00after Joseph God did exactly the same thing again
- 18:04this time not with the prisoner but with a shepherd,
- 18:09not in a prison, but in a wilderness, not before
- 18:12Pharaoh, but before a giant. His name was David.
- 18:18And once again, God would prove that before he
- 18:22entrusts a throne, he first forges the heart
- 18:26that will sit upon it. If Joseph had been the
- 18:32only person who walked through the forge, perhaps
- 18:35we could call his story an exception. But the
- 18:39moment we continue reading the Bible, we discover
- 18:43Joseph was never the exception. He was the pattern.
- 18:48David was the same. Samuel poured oil upon his
- 18:52head. God declared him the future king of Israel.
- 18:56The assignment was announced, but the throne
- 18:59did not immediately follow. Instead, God led
- 19:03him back to the sheep. Think about that. Imagine
- 19:07being anointed king, only to return to the same
- 19:12field, the same sheep, the same ordinary responsibilities.
- 19:17Nothing appeared to change, except David. Because
- 19:21while everyone else was waiting for a king, God
- 19:25was preparing one. The wilderness became David's
- 19:29classroom. The lion was not simply an attack,
- 19:33it was preparation. The bear, was not simply
- 19:37another danger, it was preparation. Goliath was
- 19:41not merely a battle, it was preparation. Even
- 19:44Saul's jealousy became preparation. The caves
- 19:48became preparation. The years of running became
- 19:53preparation. David was learning how to trust
- 19:56God when nothing around him made sense. He was
- 20:01learning how to lead before anyone called him
- 20:04king. He was learning how to worship while living
- 20:08in uncertainty. He was learning how to spare
- 20:12the very man who wanted to kill him. Because
- 20:16one day, David himself would hold power and God
- 20:20wanted to know what kind of king he would become.
- 20:24The cave prepared the throne. Then comes Moses
- 20:29raised in Pharaoh's palace, educated in Egypt,
- 20:32strong, passionate. ready to deliver Israel,
- 20:36at least according to his own understanding.
- 20:39But God saw something Moses could not yet see.
- 20:43He possessed passion. He lacked preparation.
- 20:47One day, Moses tried to accomplish God's assignment
- 20:51through human strength. The result was failure.
- 20:56He fled into the wilderness. 40 years. 40 silent
- 21:00years. 40 years. That must have looked like wasted
- 21:04time, forty years, that probably appeared to
- 21:09have buried his calling forever. Yet those forty
- 21:13years were never wasted. The prince became a
- 21:17shepherd. The confident man became the humble
- 21:20servant who would later say, I am not able. The
- 21:25man who once believed he was ready became the
- 21:28man. God could finally send because God's assignments
- 21:33are never carried by human confidence alone.
- 21:37They are carried by people who have learned to
- 21:41depend completely upon him. Then comes Esther,
- 21:45an orphan living in exile, far from the promised
- 21:49land. Nothing about her life suggested she would
- 21:53influence an empire. Yet every hidden chapter
- 21:57was moving her toward one unforgettable moment.
- 22:01For such a time as this, Notice something. God
- 22:05did not prepare Esther the day Haman issued his
- 22:08decree. He had been preparing her long before.
- 22:13The crisis arrived because that is how God works.
- 22:17He prepares his servants before their assignment
- 22:20arrives. Now step back and look at them together.
- 22:24Joseph, David, Moses, Esther. Different stories,
- 22:30different generations, different circumstances.
- 22:33The same God, the same forge, the same preparation,
- 22:37the same principle. God never prepared the assignment
- 22:41first. He prepared the servant. And suddenly,
- 22:46perhaps your own story begins to make a little
- 22:49more sense. Maybe the waiting has not been punishment.
- 22:54Maybe the delay has not been rejection. Maybe
- 22:57the fire has not been abandonment. Perhaps. God
- 23:02has been doing what he has always done, forging
- 23:06his servant before revealing the full weight
- 23:10of the assignment. As we close this first conversation,
- 23:16I want to leave you with one thought. Stop asking,
- 23:20Lord, when will my assignment begin? Perhaps
- 23:24it already has. Perhaps the forge is the first
- 23:29chapter of your assignment. Because every prison,
- 23:33every cave, every wilderness, every season of
- 23:37waiting, every misunderstood moment, every faithful
- 23:40act that no one applauded may be part of God's
- 23:44preparation for something you cannot yet see.
- 23:49Never measure God's faithfulness by your current
- 23:53location. Joseph measured it from the throne.
- 23:57David measured it from the kingdom. Moses measured
- 24:01it at the Red Sea. Esther measured it after a
- 24:05nation was saved. And we measure it at an empty
- 24:09tomb. Because the greatest forge in history was
- 24:13never the prison. It was never the cave. It was
- 24:17never the wilderness. It was a rugged cross outside
- 24:21Jerusalem. When the world believed Jesus had
- 24:24lost, God was accomplishing the greatest victory.
- 24:29History would ever know, never judge, God's work
- 24:33by Friday. He has already prepared Sunday, and
- 24:37perhaps one day you will look back at the very
- 24:42season you begged God to remove, only to discover
- 24:46it was the place where He forged you for your
- 24:51future assignment. As we close this first conversation,
- 24:57one truth has become impossible to ignore. Joseph
- 25:02was not the exception. David was not the exception.
- 25:06They were part of a divine pattern, a pattern
- 25:10that has echoed throughout the pages of scripture,
- 25:14from Genesis to Revelation. Because before God
- 25:18entrusts great assignments, he first forges his
- 25:22servants. But Joseph's prison and David's caves
- 25:26are only the beginning. There are still wildernesses
- 25:29to explore, burning bushes, exiles, lion's dens,
- 25:34fiery furnaces, prisons, storms, crosses, and
- 25:39in every one of them, the same God is doing the
- 25:42same work. Join me in our next conversation as
- 25:46we continue uncovering this extraordinary biblical
- 25:49pattern through the life of Moses, because what
- 25:53looked like 40 years of silence was actually
- 25:5740 years of preparation. The wilderness was never
- 26:02the interruption of Moses' calling. It became
- 26:07the forge of his future assignment. Until then,
- 26:13remember this, God never wastes the forge, because
- 26:20he never wastes the assignment.
