- 0:51Speaker 1: way this week. I'm Jeff Warren. Here are my buddy
- 0:53Speaker 1: Eric Leonard.
- 0:54Speaker 2: How are you? Man, good man, good good good. Long weekend.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yes, part of that long weekend is right behind you, folks.
- 1:02Speaker 1: If you are looking and watching us on YouTube, you're
- 1:05Speaker 1: gonna see You're gonna see some flowers, a nice little
- 1:08Speaker 1: little palette full of flowers back there from Eric's daughters
- 1:11Speaker 1: graduation party that we were all attending. It was a
- 1:14Speaker 1: good time, good times.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It was really nice. Yeah, getting to see everybody, and yeah,
- 1:20Speaker 2: I had to had to set these up. And like
- 1:23Speaker 2: it was ninety two degrees before the.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Great it's a great backdrop for pictures.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It did. It turned it really good. She made them,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and yeah, I set them up, and now they're in
- 1:33Speaker 2: my basement in front of my stuff, and I don't
- 1:35Speaker 2: what to do.
- 1:35Speaker 1: With them blocking iverson here.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I don't like it. I know I don't like it either.
- 1:39Speaker 2: He can't see his chain, you can't see the basketball
- 1:41Speaker 2: he's holding. Yes, you know, three years from now, I
- 1:45Speaker 2: will figure out they'll probably be there for you.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Everything that's gonna be there for the next two years,
- 1:49Speaker 1: three years, ten years.
- 1:51Speaker 2: How do you do with wooden palettes? You can't just
- 1:53Speaker 2: put him by the trash like I know, trash guys
- 1:55Speaker 2: aren't take it.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I've got a wooden palette in my garage right now
- 1:58Speaker 1: at this point because my daughter, he asked me. She said, like, Dad,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I saw this on the side of the road. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: asked mom to bring it home. I want to make
- 2:04Speaker 1: a little wooden shelf out of this thing. She's got me.
- 2:08Speaker 1: She's got me sawing this thing. Those they're heavy, that's
- 2:12Speaker 1: like heavy wood. I'm sitting there sawing this. I'm like,
- 2:16Speaker 1: oh my god, this is brutal. I'm like, look what
- 2:18Speaker 1: am I doing? What am I doing here?
- 2:21Speaker 2: What's what's with the palette obsession? I don't know, teenage girls,
- 2:25Speaker 2: what's going on? I don't know. Maybe there's a study.
- 2:29Speaker 2: She brought these home. I'm like, that just looks like
- 2:33Speaker 2: my problem.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yes, well, we got a great show, folks. We're gonna
- 2:38Speaker 1: getting into some opposition opposition territory now or not. That's
- 2:41Speaker 1: a podcast that we do here. I'm losing my mind.
- 2:44Speaker 1: It's been a very long day. It's been a long day,
- 2:46Speaker 1: is it?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yes? It is?
- 2:47Speaker 1: What it's on the platform I never heard. Yes, We've
- 2:52Speaker 1: got to listener feedback from one of our longtime listeners,
- 2:57Speaker 1: Aldo U. We're gonna be getting into right off the bad.
- 3:00Speaker 1: We got a ton of Phillies talk. We're gonna talk
- 3:01Speaker 1: Max Kepler his comments as of late. Should it be
- 3:05Speaker 1: released or maybe even sent down to Lehigh Valley at
- 3:08Speaker 1: this point, Should Justin Crawford be called up and Mike
- 3:12Speaker 1: Dave Dombrowski do a little something before the trade deadline
- 3:15Speaker 1: to help this Phillies team, a Phillies team that is
- 3:17Speaker 1: very good by the way they're there, they are a
- 3:20Speaker 1: good team. So we'll get to that in a bit.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Then Eric and I we're gonna get into our love
- 3:25Speaker 1: hate relationship with that one individual, that one individual and
- 3:30Speaker 1: sports personality, and from there we're gonna get into the WNBA.
- 3:34Speaker 1: They're gonna be coming to Philadelphia in two thousand and thirty.
- 3:37Speaker 1: We gonna give our thoughts there. The Sixers made their
- 3:40Speaker 1: draft picks in the NBA Draft, certainly gonna discuss that
- 3:44Speaker 1: while we're thrown down on the table this week. We've
- 3:46Speaker 1: got Austin Krell from on Pattison dot Com. We're gonna
- 3:49Speaker 1: be diving into the Sixers draft even more and where
- 3:51Speaker 1: this team is gonna be heading down the road. So
- 3:54Speaker 1: let's get into some listener feedback right off the bat
- 3:58Speaker 1: here again or good friend Aldo, Aldo wrote us, and
- 4:04Speaker 1: he was talking about some Philly sports history that Eric
- 4:07Speaker 1: and I were discussing recently. He said, Hi, guys, enjoyed
- 4:11Speaker 1: your recent discussion regarding the Philly sports history. Two points.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I always assumed that the shooting scene in the movie
- 4:18Speaker 1: The Natural was inspired by the actual shooting of Eddie Waitkiss.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Some online research seems to suggest this was indeed true.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I had ended up looking into this as well. Aldo
- 4:29Speaker 1: and Yes Aldo sent along an article and it's absolutely correct.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Eddie Wakes, he was on the Chicago Cubs. He was
- 4:36Speaker 1: a very handsome boy, for my understanding, a very handsome boy.
- 4:39Speaker 1: There was a lady who had a crush on him,
- 4:41Speaker 1: became obsessed with him. Everything went downhill for Eddie Wakes
- 4:46Speaker 1: when when he was you know, murdered by this lady.
- 4:50Speaker 1: When he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. It was
- 4:52Speaker 1: it was a fateful turn. When he went to the Phillies.
- 4:54Speaker 1: That's when she decided to kill him basically. So, but yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: he was absolutely right in that. I think Eric, when
- 5:00Speaker 1: we were talking about this initially, you had brought up
- 5:03Speaker 1: and asked the question, was that story from the natural,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and apparently it was.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah, A couple of thanks Aldo. Yeah, I think we
- 5:13Speaker 2: brought that up in the show, and I wasn't sure.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I haven't watched the movie twenty times. I just never
- 5:17Speaker 2: went and researched it. If I watched that movie like
- 5:19Speaker 2: the Google time of Google, I would have known it too. Right,
- 5:23Speaker 2: So you does have some good good qualities. I don't know.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I don't know if he's handsome, Jeff, I just brought
- 5:29Speaker 2: up a picture of him. I don't you said he
- 5:34Speaker 2: was a good looking dude.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I was going based off an article that I had
- 5:37Speaker 1: read that he was Okay, he was a Chicago Cubs
- 5:41Speaker 1: handsome first baseman.
- 5:43Speaker 2: He's one of those guys that he looked like he
- 5:45Speaker 2: was fifty at twenty five.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, like, well.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Everyone lived hard back then. They looked terrible. They drank.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Wasn't Archie Bunker supposed to be like forty four?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the time of the show it was Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 2: how old was he on the show, Like thirties, early forties?
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think I think it was like early forties or
- 6:02Speaker 2: something like that. Yeah, yeah, wor older than him now, Like, oh,
- 6:06Speaker 2: but you know, sometimes, you know, Hollywood gets things right.
- 6:11Speaker 2: I hate when something, you know, Hollywood takes us a
- 6:14Speaker 2: true true story and kind of messes with it, and
- 6:18Speaker 2: you go back and research, you're like, it's just ridiculous.
- 6:20Speaker 2: The one thing The Natural did was they gave him
- 6:22Speaker 2: a better name, because Roy Hobbs is so much better
- 6:25Speaker 2: than Eddie White kiss.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Wait kiss wait kiss?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah that is that is not a screen It's not
- 6:32Speaker 2: a screen symbol.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, like I think it's wait kiss. I'm not I'm
- 6:36Speaker 1: not one to be talking about names and pronouncing them
- 6:38Speaker 1: correctly here on this pod.
- 6:39Speaker 2: No, no, but I can only imagine the the femme
- 6:43Speaker 2: fatale character in The Natural. Oh, Eddie waitiss. Roy Hobbs
- 6:49Speaker 2: definitely rolls off the tongue a little better.
- 6:51Speaker 1: But yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Well.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Aldo also said then, because we were talking about Russian
- 6:57Speaker 1: hockey and the Flyers beating the Russians, and he said
- 7:04Speaker 1: the Russians were very dominant in Olympic hockey competition for
- 7:07Speaker 1: some time before both and after the infamous game versus
- 7:11Speaker 1: the Flyers. In fact, they won the gold medal eight times,
- 7:14Speaker 1: not getting it only twice over consecutive twenty year span
- 7:18Speaker 1: from nineteen fifty six to nineteen ninety two. The only
- 7:21Speaker 1: two times the Russians failed was failed to win the
- 7:26Speaker 1: gold was when the USA won the gold both times.
- 7:29Speaker 1: So appreciate that I did not know that. Aldos So,
- 7:32Speaker 1: thanks first sending it along. And folks, we really would
- 7:35Speaker 1: love to hear from you. Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail
- 7:39Speaker 1: dot com. Shoot us off an email. We'd love to
- 7:40Speaker 1: respond to it like we just did with aldos So. Yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I appreciated that hockey a little bit of hockey history there.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Eric. Well, you know, they were so good because they
- 7:49Speaker 2: wouldn't let their players leave the country.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Or do anything else in life.
- 7:53Speaker 2: They had to play on the national team. That was
- 7:55Speaker 2: pretty much the only game in town. Yes, yeah, it's
- 8:00Speaker 2: kind of funny. Nineteen ninety two, that's when the ninety one, Like,
- 8:04Speaker 2: isn't that when like communism fell and like everyone was
- 8:06Speaker 2: able to get out. Yeah, it was actually a really
- 8:10Speaker 2: good hockey documentary called the Russian Five or something like that.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, I have not seen that, but I know
- 8:17Speaker 1: what you're talking about.
- 8:18Speaker 2: It's about the Red You know, the guys, the the
- 8:20Speaker 2: Russian players that the Red Wings drafted I think finally
- 8:23Speaker 2: got over here. And the stories of how they got
- 8:25Speaker 2: them over here. Fascinating. Yeah. So, so not only did
- 8:29Speaker 2: the Flyers destroy the Russians? So so did you know?
- 8:35Speaker 2: So did us? Yes, the US, we did.
- 8:38Speaker 1: We took them.
- 8:39Speaker 2: We took our hockey players.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah right, yeah right, Thanks again, Aldo for the email. Again, folks,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com, read your email
- 8:48Speaker 1: here on the show and respond to it. Let's get
- 8:51Speaker 1: into some Phillies talk right now. Max Kepler, he had
- 8:54Speaker 1: some words recently and uh, you know, I think this
- 8:59Speaker 1: organization needs to figure out what to do with him.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And I say this after the Phillies just had a
- 9:04Speaker 1: double header today and in the last game of that doubleheader,
- 9:07Speaker 1: Max Kepler hits a home run, has two RBIs, had
- 9:10Speaker 1: a pretty good game. But at this point he is
- 9:13Speaker 1: batting two ten on the season, not helping folks out
- 9:17Speaker 1: a lot, not helping the team out too too much,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and was essentially, in so many words, complaining that he's
- 9:25Speaker 1: not playing routinely. That's what Max Kepler told Matt Gelb
- 9:28Speaker 1: from the Athletic and he said, that's the biggest challenge.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I was told that I was going to be the
- 9:33Speaker 1: starting left fielder when he was initially signed. That hasn't
- 9:37Speaker 1: been happening. Rob Thompson is trying to walk this back,
- 9:41Speaker 1: playing down the comments that they were a little bit
- 9:43Speaker 1: blown out of proportion. But I don't know. I can't
- 9:47Speaker 1: see that in terms of the stories that I have
- 9:49Speaker 1: been reading and stuff that I've been just reading and
- 9:54Speaker 1: seeing online as well. Eric, I don't know. I just
- 9:58Speaker 1: I had higher for Max Kepler. I know you did
- 10:01Speaker 1: as well. Last week I put the Philly season predictions
- 10:06Speaker 1: on the UH on the podcast to feed for us
- 10:09Speaker 1: when you and I were doing our predictions, and I
- 10:11Speaker 1: know you had some Yeah, you had you you you
- 10:14Speaker 1: had some big high hopes for Max Kepler and UH.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But but I'll say, look, he's batting two ten. I mean,
- 10:21Speaker 1: ken things turn around for him. Yeah, I think they can.
- 10:24Speaker 1: It's baseball. Things can turn around for guys. But if
- 10:27Speaker 1: he's complaining perhaps behind the scenes, and he's performing the
- 10:31Speaker 1: way he's performing, maybe he needs a couple of weeks
- 10:34Speaker 1: in Triple A, maybe he should be sent down to
- 10:36Speaker 1: Lee High Valley. I don't know what are your thoughts here, Listen.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I had hopes and dreams of being like a touring
- 10:42Speaker 2: bass player and a great band for like their years.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Sometimes it just doesn't happen. Man, you know, right made it.
- 10:50Speaker 1: He's made it, though, It's true.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I had my hands on a base for a
- 10:55Speaker 2: week and was like this is dumb. Okay anyway, So yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 2: there's certain guys on the got one for you here?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Remember in college I bought one. I brought up to
- 11:07Speaker 2: you guys all the time like y yeah, And I
- 11:09Speaker 2: played it for a week and I was like, I said,
- 11:11Speaker 2: I don't want to do this, Yes, I don't waste
- 11:13Speaker 2: my money. I know. Uh. If there's two dudes on
- 11:19Speaker 2: the team that I don't want to hear about here
- 11:21Speaker 2: complaining about not getting playing time all the time, Scott
- 11:25Speaker 2: and Kepler, Yeah I know. I know. Kepler had a
- 11:27Speaker 2: nice game tonight, and of course I was watching him
- 11:29Speaker 2: like I'm going to batch this guy tonight, and of
- 11:30Speaker 2: course he had a huge home run, but he just
- 11:35Speaker 2: I think my hopes were probably surrounding, like how he
- 11:38Speaker 2: used to be a really decent prospect and he was
- 11:40Speaker 2: still young. I thought maybe the short porch. He's a lefty,
- 11:43Speaker 2: like maybe that would help his career out a little bit.
- 11:46Speaker 2: He's he's not even he hasn't even been very good
- 11:47Speaker 2: in the field. He's batting two ten, like you just said, yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 2: and Scott has just been a huge disappointment this season overall.
- 11:56Speaker 1: It was in the batting. In the batting box, He's
- 11:59Speaker 1: been fantastic defense fan.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's fine, but like, but when you know,
- 12:05Speaker 2: when this team's in an offensive drought, you know, he
- 12:08Speaker 2: he looks even worse, you know what I mean, because
- 12:11Speaker 2: his teammates kind of kind of definitely pick him up
- 12:13Speaker 2: because he's again bat in two thirty eight. He just
- 12:15Speaker 2: doesn't look good at the plate this year. And I
- 12:19Speaker 2: do love how Thompson. Thompson protects his players. He's definitely
- 12:24Speaker 2: a players coach. Maybe deep down he's like trying to
- 12:30Speaker 2: be fucked Kepler's trade value. Maybe I think here's anything
- 12:34Speaker 2: you can do with him, but uh, you know, we'll
- 12:36Speaker 2: get into that later, Like what are their possibilities? But like, yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 2: I don't know, Like I guess the theory is if
- 12:43Speaker 2: I play more, I play better, or you'll go for
- 12:47Speaker 2: five more and you're batting average.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Right, or or if he wants to play more, play
- 12:52Speaker 1: more down in Lee High Valley for a bit, seriously, yeah,
- 12:55Speaker 1: two three weeks, Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 2: And just switch places with another guy up there, just
- 13:00Speaker 2: as it.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Let's get let's get it going. Seriously. I think we're
- 13:06Speaker 1: getting to that point where it may be time. But
- 13:10Speaker 1: when you're back in two ten and we're so excited
- 13:14Speaker 1: that he hit one home run and two RBIs this
- 13:16Speaker 1: game against the Padres, there's a problem. There's a big
- 13:19Speaker 1: problem with that.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a segment coming up later about sports personalities
- 13:24Speaker 2: and I'll just hear it now and this has nothing
- 13:27Speaker 2: to do with that part. But Reuben tomorrow. Yeah, he
- 13:31Speaker 2: has to leave my life. I need a break up
- 13:34Speaker 2: with him. He was talking about Kepler's home run like
- 13:38Speaker 2: Kepler was freaking. It was like Tony Winn, like, I
- 13:44Speaker 2: can't stand that guy. I just can't believe he is
- 13:47Speaker 2: the He's the epitome of stepping in ship smells like roses.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I can't believe how many times he's failed, absolutely right,
- 13:53Speaker 2: and he's still in the booth. He's uh whatever.
- 13:56Speaker 1: He was the first base coach of the Boston Red
- 13:59Speaker 1: Sox before coming back to Philadelphia.
- 14:02Speaker 2: How how it happen. He's and he and he's, yeah,
- 14:06Speaker 2: he's not. I'm just gonna stop. He's just he sucks.
- 14:09Speaker 2: But you know, I think we've passed the I think
- 14:15Speaker 2: we've passed the time the timeline for a player losing
- 14:20Speaker 2: a year of arbitration where the team loses a year
- 14:23Speaker 2: of arbitration with Justin crawfor because I think it's it's
- 14:25Speaker 2: July second, so it's probably over right whatever I think.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I mean, that's definitely a hitting season question there, or
- 14:32Speaker 2: you know, for where the novices on that stuff, but
- 14:36Speaker 2: they they tend not to bring up their guys too quickly,
- 14:40Speaker 2: but they're reaching a point where you know, you've got
- 14:43Speaker 2: marsh Batton, what two fifteen? You have too? Eight? Like
- 14:46Speaker 2: your outfield is just dismal offensively, and if this kid
- 14:51Speaker 2: is even potentially ready, like why not bring them up
- 14:54Speaker 2: right now before the all start break. Let's see and
- 14:57Speaker 2: it would just make a ton of sense and see
- 14:59Speaker 2: what you have. I doubt he's gonna lose any confidence.
- 15:01Speaker 2: His dad was a major league ballplayer for years and years,
- 15:04Speaker 2: Like it can't hurt at this point, because again, I
- 15:07Speaker 2: think at your outfield is averaging what two thirty five. Yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 2: I mean, Castianos can't do it all right.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So but as I said at the beginning of the show, here,
- 15:18Speaker 1: this is a good team. It's not like this team
- 15:22Speaker 1: is some like middling, crap garbage team. They're fifty one
- 15:25Speaker 1: and thirty six right now. They are a top of
- 15:30Speaker 1: the NL East. You know, they're one of the leading
- 15:32Speaker 1: teams in Major League Baseball.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Here.
- 15:34Speaker 1: They're not a bad team. So it's not like we're
- 15:37Speaker 1: just picking on guys. Max Kepler's bat in two ten,
- 15:40Speaker 1: it's a problem. It's an issue if there can be
- 15:43Speaker 1: any type of correction to this particular spot in the rotation,
- 15:49Speaker 1: get it done. Let's see what Justin Crawford can do.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I mean, they're three and a half games out from
- 15:54Speaker 2: the best record in baseball. Yeah, behind the Dodgers, you
- 15:57Speaker 2: know what I mean. And it's time to start making
- 16:02Speaker 2: minor tweaks. You got. You're coming down the stretch here.
- 16:04Speaker 2: They all start breakings fast approaching. You know, it's gonna
- 16:08Speaker 2: be be August before you know it. And you can't
- 16:11Speaker 2: be rolling in August with Kepler batting like two o seven.
- 16:14Speaker 2: That's just it's just not gonna work and get them
- 16:16Speaker 2: where they need to be because Harper's gonna need some
- 16:18Speaker 2: time to get back on track. I mean, you know
- 16:21Speaker 2: Schwarmer is going to be even though he's going to
- 16:23Speaker 2: be in the All Star team, I think you know
- 16:25Speaker 2: that he is one of these guys it's going to
- 16:27Speaker 2: bat one ten for two weeks and then just crush
- 16:30Speaker 2: the ball, say mccastianos, you got to have some kind
- 16:32Speaker 2: of like consistency, and they don't have enough of that
- 16:34Speaker 2: across the Borgus trade Turner would be your consistent guy. Yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 2: but you got to at least one outfielder that is
- 16:40Speaker 2: consistent and if if you got to proffered a chance
- 16:43Speaker 2: soon to see what you have before the trade deadline,
- 16:46Speaker 2: because then you may have to make a move. So yeah,
- 16:49Speaker 2: now's the time to pull the trigger on that, because
- 16:51Speaker 2: I didn't even looked at the schedule coming up for them.
- 16:53Speaker 2: That'd be a good indicator, like who are they playing?
- 16:56Speaker 2: Are they going to be at home? Yeah? I mean
- 16:59Speaker 2: so they got they get the Reds come into town. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:03Speaker 2: like starting on Friday.
- 17:04Speaker 1: But you're asking ring tomorrow, absolutely seriously bring them up tomorrow. Yeah,
- 17:09Speaker 1: I mean, let's get into what Dave Dombrowski may want
- 17:12Speaker 1: to do before the trade deadline, how this may play into,
- 17:15Speaker 1: like you were just saying, how this may play into
- 17:18Speaker 1: what they do with the trade deadline, because we all
- 17:20Speaker 1: know we're talking about another batter and or the outfielder
- 17:25Speaker 1: because of this particular situation now also potentially another bullpen piece,
- 17:30Speaker 1: although the bullpen has not been performing too terribly at
- 17:34Speaker 1: this point. The Mets actually traded Donovan Walton to the
- 17:38Speaker 1: Phillies this past week. I mean, not a huge deal
- 17:41Speaker 1: by any stretch. Donovan Walton's coming from the Mets for
- 17:45Speaker 1: cash considerations. Deal was announced by Phillies' Triple A affiliate
- 17:49Speaker 1: in the Lehigh Valley, where Walton was assigned. So I don't,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I don't. Who the heck knows what's gonna happen with
- 17:57Speaker 1: regard to Donovan Walton. Probably not too too much. But
- 18:01Speaker 1: at this point, again, this is a team that is
- 18:04Speaker 1: atop the NL East. It wouldn't surprise me if Dave
- 18:08Speaker 1: Dombrowski really didn't make a quote huge move. I don't.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I don't think it's one hundred percent necessary at this point.
- 18:15Speaker 1: What are your thoughts?
- 18:17Speaker 2: I wouldn't say a huge move, but I think the
- 18:20Speaker 2: most glaring issue facing the Phillies coming going down the
- 18:24Speaker 2: stretch when you're going to be in closer games with
- 18:26Speaker 2: you know, better teams. Is it the bullpen and it
- 18:29Speaker 2: just feels like a tinderbox, Like yeah, it's er I
- 18:36Speaker 2: mean Alvarado is our best, you know, relief pitcher and
- 18:38Speaker 2: he's gone, you can't play in the playoffs and he's
- 18:41Speaker 2: I think I'll come back to like September at that point,
- 18:44Speaker 2: why even bother you know, Jordan Romano is our saves
- 18:47Speaker 2: leader and is he already seven to eight? It's he
- 18:51Speaker 2: had a horrendous start. He's been better, but man, it
- 18:53Speaker 2: it gets it gets drabbed pretty quick, like strong Blazarre
- 18:58Speaker 2: Kirkering wrangle, like it's Taeywan Walker's got his pitching more.
- 19:02Speaker 2: But like those those eras and the three five and above, Yeah,
- 19:07Speaker 2: in your bullpen, Like where where's your guys with like
- 19:09Speaker 2: the two like Creiguess Kirkering is that guy? But like
- 19:13Speaker 2: I think that's where they're gonna have to definitely address. Well,
- 19:16Speaker 2: you're not gonna make major changes there, yeah, but that
- 19:19Speaker 2: is what you need to get. You need to get
- 19:20Speaker 2: a couple more bodies, a couple more arms there, because
- 19:23Speaker 2: again we're winning games by like five to one, like
- 19:26Speaker 2: we did tonight, or we're losing like you know, the
- 19:28Speaker 2: game before it's seven to one. And when I was starting,
- 19:30Speaker 2: pitching has been fantastic. I think we're probably good there
- 19:33Speaker 2: if you can get an arm. But like, what are
- 19:35Speaker 2: you gonna what are you gonna move to get a
- 19:36Speaker 2: good arm?
- 19:37Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. I said it last week on
- 19:38Speaker 1: the show with friend Matt Rodgers. It's like Dave Dombrowski
- 19:41Speaker 1: didn't make a move last year last season with the
- 19:45Speaker 1: top prospects. What makes us think he's gonna do it
- 19:48Speaker 1: a year later? You know what I mean?
- 19:50Speaker 2: Like, Yeah, he.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Didn't make the move last year. I don't think he's
- 19:52Speaker 1: gonna do it again this year.
- 19:54Speaker 2: You know.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I maybe for draft picks in the future, but I
- 19:57Speaker 1: can't see a major move being made where you're gonna
- 19:59Speaker 1: Andrew Painters not being moved. That doubt justin Crawford's being
- 20:02Speaker 1: moved at all, Mick Abel, I don't think he's going
- 20:05Speaker 1: to be moved. I don't know if he could even
- 20:06Speaker 1: be moved at this point after some of his recent performances.
- 20:09Speaker 1: But I just I don't think we're going to see
- 20:11Speaker 1: a major move.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I really don't. And and and you just saying that
- 20:16Speaker 2: made me think of something like I said, Uh, they
- 20:19Speaker 2: don't tend to bring their younger guys up, but they
- 20:20Speaker 2: did bring they did bring able up. I'll give him
- 20:23Speaker 2: that when they needed an arm. I think if Painter
- 20:26Speaker 2: shows any signs of like he can handle himself with
- 20:30Speaker 2: with Nolan, I'm just thinking Nol's done for the year
- 20:34Speaker 2: with those nagging injuries. He has his age. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 2: it's just such a the rib area for a picture.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Just it's such a bad, bad injury. But I I
- 20:45Speaker 2: just but you know, you're not gonna You're not gonna
- 20:47Speaker 2: You're not gonna bolster your bullpen through through your farm system.
- 20:50Speaker 2: So like I think I think that's where he wants
- 20:52Speaker 2: to concentrate his uh and then go after the dumb teams.
- 20:56Speaker 2: The Pirates are out there. Who else are dumb teams?
- 20:59Speaker 2: The White Socks are looking trade anybody, Yes, just just
- 21:02Speaker 2: hit those teams, get their best relief pitchers, and go.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I think I think that's like the Marlin Crawford. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 2: bring up Crawford, trade for some bullpen help and maybe
- 21:12Speaker 2: get a starter. Hopefully maybe Painter comes up. Don't know,
- 21:15Speaker 2: but I think that's that's you don't want to touch
- 21:17Speaker 2: too much because again, you know, Phillies lose a game,
- 21:20Speaker 2: everyone's on Twitter, I know, like fourth best record baseball.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I think we're okay there.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Doing all right? Yeah, absolutely well, as we're moving along
- 21:32Speaker 1: with the discussion here, moving along with the show, and
- 21:35Speaker 1: before we get to our first break, you know something
- 21:39Speaker 1: I've really been thinking about a lot. You know, we're
- 21:41Speaker 1: watching different drafts, and we're certainly going to get into
- 21:43Speaker 1: the Sixers draft in a bit here. But there's so
- 21:47Speaker 1: many different sports personalities. There's not too too many national
- 21:52Speaker 1: sports personalities anymore, but when you're watching, whether it's on YouTube,
- 21:57Speaker 1: you're watching ESPN, you're watching you know, even even NBC
- 22:02Speaker 1: Sports Philly. I mean, there are a lot of sports
- 22:05Speaker 1: personalities that are really hateable out there, and there's ones
- 22:08Speaker 1: that I like as well, that people generally like. I
- 22:13Speaker 1: think too, But there aren't too too many who are
- 22:16Speaker 1: right in the middle where there's this love hate relationship
- 22:19Speaker 1: with And we're gonna get into that right now. Give
- 22:22Speaker 1: that one individual, that one sports personality that we have
- 22:26Speaker 1: a love hate relationship with. Eric, I'm gonna be going
- 22:29Speaker 1: with one Stephen A. Smith and I'm going with him
- 22:33Speaker 1: because for years I truly enjoyed listening to his show
- 22:38Speaker 1: on Sirius XM. I remember when I would go on
- 22:41Speaker 1: my lunch breaks and I would like go to go
- 22:44Speaker 1: to wah wah or something, just love listening to him
- 22:47Speaker 1: in the car. It was fantastic. You fast forward to
- 22:50Speaker 1: this past week at the NBA Draft and he was
- 22:53Speaker 1: out of his mind, just over the top, and I
- 22:55Speaker 1: couldn't deal with it. I'm like, I hate this version
- 22:58Speaker 1: of Steven A.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Smith.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I love him when he's in front of the microphone
- 23:02Speaker 1: actually in a studio talking, just talking, not yelling. When
- 23:06Speaker 1: he starts yelling, I just have the hate, the hate
- 23:09Speaker 1: part of the relationship come out. So I don't know,
- 23:12Speaker 1: that's that's my love hate relationship with the sports personality.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Who is it for you.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Or if you have anything you want to add to
- 23:21Speaker 1: Stephen Smith.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I'm actually a big fan of his. I know a
- 23:26Speaker 2: lot of people dislike him. I never understood it. He's
- 23:31Speaker 2: loud and boisterous, but you know he's a great sports analysis.
- 23:35Speaker 2: He is great sports and he's a he's an old
- 23:37Speaker 2: newspaper guy. Yeah, like he's he actually it was a
- 23:40Speaker 2: journalist and those guys typically if they have a personality,
- 23:43Speaker 2: can make it on TV and do really well. He's
- 23:45Speaker 2: a good example. But you know, I almost I felt
- 23:49Speaker 2: like my dad watching the draft coverage because he was
- 23:53Speaker 2: too loud and he was like literally screaming at certain points,
- 23:58Speaker 2: like when Jeremiah Fears wasted you go onm bar yeah,
- 24:02Speaker 2: like you're talking about his ice and was screaming that
- 24:06Speaker 2: this is my guy and like that. That's if you
- 24:10Speaker 2: want to make an exuberant set and mad kind of
- 24:13Speaker 2: be fun. That's one thing. He's screaming a top of
- 24:16Speaker 2: his lungs. No one's doing analysis at this point, right,
- 24:20Speaker 2: this guy's like all Steve and they said about the
- 24:22Speaker 2: kid was man, he's a baller, Like wow, thanks, man,
- 24:27Speaker 2: Can I get Jay Billis who actually watches college basketball? Like,
- 24:30Speaker 2: give me some insight? Is there anybody on ESPN ESPN Plus?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Because they're two separate broadcasts, I went. I went to
- 24:36Speaker 2: both of them. They're both terrible, right the one. On
- 24:39Speaker 2: the one, the woman's talking about the guy's cousins and
- 24:42Speaker 2: how they were teammates in AU and and and Kendrick
- 24:45Speaker 2: Berksons is like, man, this guy's a dog. He's a
- 24:48Speaker 2: pure dog. I'm like, where is where's someone to tell
- 24:52Speaker 2: me about how do they how do they handle pick
- 24:54Speaker 2: and roll on defense? Like, how do they how can
- 24:56Speaker 2: they end their rotation to the wing for open three?
- 24:58Speaker 2: Like like none of that. Like Jay billis they had
- 25:01Speaker 2: on a couple times and he knew that kind of stuff.
- 25:03Speaker 2: But that was one of the worst covered NBA drafts
- 25:08Speaker 2: I've ever seen.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I don't care about those person those personal stories really,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I don't, like, I mean, unless there's something like really bizarre,
- 25:16Speaker 1: like for instance, Porter Martone uh getting picked by the Flyers.
- 25:21Speaker 1: He was a Flyers fan, but he was a Flyers fan.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Let's talk to NHL draft to then, please.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Once we get to yeah, when we get to the
- 25:27Speaker 1: Sixers draft, we'll talk about that. But I'm just saying,
- 25:30Speaker 1: like that was actually an interesting story. The kid was
- 25:33Speaker 1: a Flyers fan. His parents drove him up to a
- 25:36Speaker 1: game once and he was he's a fan, and he
- 25:39Speaker 1: got drafted by the team that he's a fan of.
- 25:41Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. That's a cool personal story.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I don't know if you know this. Cooper Flags from
- 25:45Speaker 2: Maine all really Yeah, they didn't hammer that home enough.
- 25:50Speaker 2: My god, did it slip by me, it was so bad. Unfortunately,
- 25:55Speaker 2: stephen A was one of the worst elements of it. Yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 2: the one guy for me is this goes back a
- 26:02Speaker 2: little bit, but he still he still shows up on
- 26:04Speaker 2: TV every now and again as he looks older and
- 26:08Speaker 2: weirder and more squarely eyed. Chris Berman.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Oh yes, this is a good one. This is a
- 26:15Speaker 1: good one.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah. So Chris Berman like on the surface, very very annoying,
- 26:24Speaker 2: like with some of the nicknames, kind of like he
- 26:26Speaker 2: like he was running out of nicknames near the end
- 26:28Speaker 2: when he was a little older and uh, you know,
- 26:32Speaker 2: and would go back to the classics and uh again
- 26:35Speaker 2: he could be loud and do a lot of noises
- 26:38Speaker 2: and stuff. Yeah for baseball too. Yeah, he just did
- 26:43Speaker 2: different noises. He was like the tool time guy at
- 26:46Speaker 2: some points were really groaning and yeah, which it wasn't
- 26:50Speaker 2: funny either, and you know, and and kind of kind
- 26:55Speaker 2: of kind of came kind of came off his pompous too.
- 26:58Speaker 2: When you would hear hear him being interview about like
- 27:00Speaker 2: the job at broadcasting, you you would think it was like,
- 27:03Speaker 2: you know, neuroscience. I understand you're you're in the thick
- 27:08Speaker 2: of it and it's your job, but like, dude, it's
- 27:10Speaker 2: not that not that big of a deal. But on
- 27:13Speaker 2: the other hand, there there's a comfort to Chris Berman.
- 27:18Speaker 2: There's a comfort level. It's like it's Sunday night, all
- 27:22Speaker 2: the games are almost over. He's going over the highlights,
- 27:24Speaker 2: he's going for the stats, and you're just like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 2: back in high school. Like back in high school, it's
- 27:31Speaker 2: Sunday like that. That has that has to be part
- 27:35Speaker 2: of it. And Mike Patrick, it was that his name
- 27:38Speaker 2: the football announcer too. He would do the Sunday night
- 27:40Speaker 2: game on ESPN. Like that was just a comfort thing.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I felt like I was home. I could be ready
- 27:46Speaker 2: for money just being around the like I don't know.
- 27:49Speaker 2: That was like Dan Patrick. No, No, I think it's
- 27:52Speaker 2: Mike Patrick. He was. He was the football announcer. Dan
- 27:55Speaker 2: Patrick is from if you look it up. I think
- 27:58Speaker 2: he just died a year or two ago. The Sunday
- 28:00Speaker 2: night football games in ESPN for years, their Monday Night football.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Went oh yeah, Mike okay, Mike Patrick. Yes, yes, yeah, yes, yes.
- 28:06Speaker 2: And I and one of my favorite. He was one
- 28:08Speaker 2: of my fears because you could always see his pack
- 28:10Speaker 2: of heaters. Yes, he definitely had a Smoker's voice. Butman
- 28:17Speaker 2: Berman like I you know, Natron means business kind of stuff,
- 28:23Speaker 2: Like it's corny, but it's kind of funny. And there was,
- 28:26Speaker 2: like I said, it just made you feel like, all right,
- 28:29Speaker 2: I know what happened today in football because Berman laid
- 28:32Speaker 2: it out for me. You know, so that's my guy.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I like it, I really do, because, like I said,
- 28:38Speaker 1: I remember in high school, you know, Sunday night games
- 28:41Speaker 1: and stuff. Like you said, there was comfort in that.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I loved it. I loved hearing that voice. The hopiness
- 28:47Speaker 1: was there. Of course it was once we were in
- 28:50Speaker 1: college and probably like the tail end of college getting
- 28:53Speaker 1: to be like early two thousands, was like, okay, this
- 28:56Speaker 1: bit is just completely done. You're trying way too hard.
- 29:02Speaker 1: You are taking yourself way too seriously. At that point,
- 29:05Speaker 1: he was like a John sterling. You know, he's probably
- 29:07Speaker 1: got diaesels up in his special room of the house,
- 29:11Speaker 1: you know, with trying to write sayings, Oh what do
- 29:13Speaker 1: we got for next week?
- 29:14Speaker 2: You know, I think you're gonna see these painting pictures
- 29:16Speaker 2: of himself because I wouldn't put that back too. Yeah,
- 29:20Speaker 2: I guarantee you there's a painting of him in his
- 29:23Speaker 2: house somewhere. Maybe he didn't do it, but it has
- 29:26Speaker 2: to be. Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I like it, folks, But I'd love to know what
- 29:29Speaker 1: you are all thinking out there? What is Do you
- 29:32Speaker 1: have a love hate relationship with a sports personality, a broadcaster,
- 29:36Speaker 1: whoever it is? Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com.

- 30:23Speaker 1: We'd appreciate it. Share the show with everyone. We're gonna
- 30:26Speaker 1: take a quick break here, folks, and we're gonna be
- 30:28Speaker 1: back with some WNBA talk since a new team is
- 30:31Speaker 1: coming to Philadelphia and some Sixers talk. We'll be back
- 30:34Speaker 1: in a bit. All right, We are back, and the NBA,
- 30:40Speaker 1: the WNBA, i should say, is coming to Philadelphia now.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Whether it's been Eric and myself or Len and myself,
- 30:47Speaker 1: we have talked about for years, you know, every now
- 30:51Speaker 1: and again because of the WNBA and how integral Philadelphia
- 30:58Speaker 1: is to basketball in general, the wonderful stories, the talent
- 31:02Speaker 1: that comes out of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia basketball scene.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's been just an abomination that Philly has not had
- 31:09Speaker 1: a WNBA team, and with the WNBA just not just
- 31:14Speaker 1: because of Caitlin Clark, but because of other star players
- 31:17Speaker 1: as well, taking the league to another level over these
- 31:21Speaker 1: past few years. I'm really excited about this, about this
- 31:27Speaker 1: team inevitably coming to Philadelphia again in two thousand and thirty,
- 31:31Speaker 1: I was really excited to hear this. You know, we're
- 31:32Speaker 1: gonna have more basketball in Philadelphia. What I didn't like.
- 31:37Speaker 1: What I didn't like about this, Eric, was that certain
- 31:40Speaker 1: social media sites and certain accounts are like, what should
- 31:43Speaker 1: the name of the new team be? And oh my god,
- 31:48Speaker 1: just some of the hockey stuff. Oh, they should be
- 31:50Speaker 1: called the Philadelphia Cheese Steaks. And then yeah, exactly, and
- 31:56Speaker 1: then the one I saw it was really annoying, the
- 31:58Speaker 1: Philadelphia Freedom with like American flags after it and stuff.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Look I like the country, folks. I like the good
- 32:08Speaker 1: old US.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I do.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I do, Yes, I do. But man, and look that
- 32:13Speaker 1: you watch. They're probably gonna call the They're probably gonna
- 32:15Speaker 1: call the team the Freedom. And I'm like ragging on
- 32:17Speaker 1: it here, but I actually hope they don't. I hope
- 32:20Speaker 1: they come up with something a little more I don't know, original,
- 32:27Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know. Yeah, So I don't know what
- 32:30Speaker 1: are your thoughts. I'm excited that the team is coming,
- 32:32Speaker 1: to be honest with you, I think it's gonna be
- 32:33Speaker 1: really cool and I think it's gonna be pretty sweet
- 32:37Speaker 1: for sure. But I don't know what are your thoughts
- 32:39Speaker 1: here with the story.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great. I mean, I can't believe it took
- 32:43Speaker 2: this long to bring one of those teams to Philly.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I mean, no Vegas guy one before Philly, which is ridiculous.
- 32:49Speaker 2: And come on, yes, Seattle has one, you know, but
- 32:54Speaker 2: it's it's nothing but good for the city. And WNBA
- 32:58Speaker 2: was smart to do it now. While this is the
- 32:59Speaker 2: flameous kind of thing to expand, and you're going to
- 33:05Speaker 2: be putting one in a real big time basketball city.
- 33:08Speaker 2: You have a lot of history, you know, uh, female
- 33:12Speaker 2: basketball history here. Yeah, so here. I don't live there
- 33:16Speaker 2: but anymore. But yeah, I think there's some of the
- 33:19Speaker 2: interesting questions I had besides the name of the team. Like,
- 33:23Speaker 2: it's just funny when the public thinks they have any input.
- 33:27Speaker 2: It's owned by a corporation. They don't care about you exactly.
- 33:30Speaker 2: An if they have one of those like what should
- 33:32Speaker 2: we name the thing to, you know, for popularity, to
- 33:35Speaker 2: get popularity, they already have one picked out right, Like
- 33:39Speaker 2: like when the Magic came about, they had like a
- 33:42Speaker 2: apparently they had like a contest, what we're gonna name
- 33:44Speaker 2: the Orlando Magic? Where the Magic yet?
- 33:46Speaker 3: Right?
- 33:47Speaker 2: And uh? People call people are calling in left and
- 33:49Speaker 2: right and sending letters in. It's like they were always
- 33:51Speaker 2: being the Magic. Yeah, it's never gonna How about Washington?
- 33:55Speaker 2: How about Washington? When they were the Washington football team
- 33:58Speaker 2: for like what a couple of years, it took them
- 34:00Speaker 2: two years to name them the Commanders?
- 34:03Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? They already had the name picked
- 34:07Speaker 1: out come on, give me. It's a marketing.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Ploy, it's a marketing employer's licensing, and it's all kinds
- 34:13Speaker 2: of ship. Yes, so just don't make it the freedom.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I don't hate freedom. You know, some people might say
- 34:20Speaker 2: I do in this country because they actually have just
- 34:23Speaker 2: scenting views sometimes, but like it's just so hokey, like
- 34:27Speaker 2: it's corny man, I guess. Oh, thank god, the New
- 34:31Speaker 2: York is already the liberty liberty, so we can't do
- 34:33Speaker 2: liberty bells. That would suck. There's nothing else in Philly,
- 34:38Speaker 2: so that's pretty much arlie.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Honest, hold on, you're onto something here. Okay, the Philly bells,
- 34:47Speaker 1: Oh it's bad e l L.
- 34:49Speaker 2: You know I already know. Did you have to put
- 34:53Speaker 2: your head like clever? Yes? Yeah, I knew. How about
- 35:05Speaker 2: the Philadelphia trash bags? Oh with the trash the trash
- 35:11Speaker 2: strike right now down there looks awful. No, it's already
- 35:16Speaker 2: a me name. But like, why begin where are they
- 35:18Speaker 2: gonna play? Because I think.
- 35:20Speaker 1: It's gonna be a new arena.
- 35:21Speaker 2: I think, yeah, because don't some of these new places,
- 35:24Speaker 2: like are they playing where the NBA teams play? Or
- 35:26Speaker 2: don't they have the usually they.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Usually do but I mean with the Wells Fargos, it's
- 35:32Speaker 1: not even called the Wells Fargo Center anymore.
- 35:34Speaker 2: It's like Exfinity something now really Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they actually took Wells Fargo Center off the
- 35:41Speaker 1: uh it's Infinity something. So even though the names and
- 35:47Speaker 1: rights have been transferred from Wells Fargo over to Exfinity.
- 35:51Speaker 1: My understanding is I think Lennon and I may have
- 35:54Speaker 1: been talking about this, or it was another interview maybe
- 35:57Speaker 1: that we did. I think the Navy Yard is going
- 35:59Speaker 1: to be the next place for a lot of the
- 36:01Speaker 1: sports teams, like whether their offices are gonna be there,
- 36:05Speaker 1: But I think the new arena is probably gonna be
- 36:07Speaker 1: over there whenever the whenever the Eagles end up leaving
- 36:10Speaker 1: Lincoln Financial Field, whenever they quote outgrow that particular stadium.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I think possibly over in the Navy Yard is gonna
- 36:18Speaker 1: be where the new football stadium may be. But they're
- 36:22Speaker 1: gonna there's gonna be a new there's gonna be a
- 36:24Speaker 1: new Sixers and Flyers Arena for sure at some point
- 36:28Speaker 1: down the road here, and it's probably gonna probably gonna
- 36:30Speaker 1: be over in the Navy Yard.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it makes sense, Like I was just down there
- 36:35Speaker 2: a few months ago for a while. Because my company's
- 36:38Speaker 2: home base is down in Navy Yard. Yeah, and uh
- 36:41Speaker 2: it is super spread out, plenty of space for new buildings.
- 36:45Speaker 2: You could you can definitely put two two new arenas
- 36:49Speaker 2: down there. Yeah, Like it's a it's kind of a
- 36:52Speaker 2: wasteland down there. It's really they're building it up in
- 36:54Speaker 2: spots like where my company is. But like you could
- 36:57Speaker 2: easily do that. But here here's my thought, like on
- 37:00Speaker 2: this new team on the on the bells, like if
- 37:03Speaker 2: they this is the perfect this is actually the perfect
- 37:06Speaker 2: team to build that downtown arena for, but like a
- 37:11Speaker 2: smaller version because yeah, because I think the average attendance
- 37:15Speaker 2: is like eight to ten thousand people, but that's when
- 37:17Speaker 2: Kaylen Clark shows up, so it's usually like five to
- 37:19Speaker 2: six thousand. Yeah, why not put like a ten thousand
- 37:23Speaker 2: seat venue, smaller, more basketball happy. It's a little tighter,
- 37:28Speaker 2: goes up higher, right, you know, like the Pacers Arena,
- 37:33Speaker 2: they built the perfect arena. If you watch that, the
- 37:36Speaker 2: fans are right on top of the court. Yep, it's
- 37:39Speaker 2: it's not a massive facility. And like maybe and you're
- 37:43Speaker 2: not going to get it, like so all that all
- 37:44Speaker 2: that crazy traffic that you know, you're beginning with the
- 37:47Speaker 2: six Ers and the twenty five thousand people you have
- 37:50Speaker 2: like ten have your downtown arena there, Yeah, not as congested,
- 37:55Speaker 2: but you still have a basketball court deale to an
- 37:58Speaker 2: actual professional sports in the city for the first time
- 38:00Speaker 2: in ages.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I was.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I just when I saw a story, I was thinking, like, well,
- 38:04Speaker 2: here's here's your here's a chance for you know, for
- 38:07Speaker 2: the stadium or arena in the city somewhere.
- 38:10Speaker 1: They probably want to share resources though, do you know
- 38:12Speaker 1: what I mean? Like I know a financial standpoint, I can't.
- 38:14Speaker 1: It's a fantastic idea. It should happen every day of NBA.
- 38:18Speaker 1: It's yes, you always have great ideas. All right, Well,
- 38:25Speaker 1: let's move along here and to get into some Sixers
- 38:28Speaker 1: talk here, because the Sixers they made their draft picks.
- 38:31Speaker 1: I I did think Eju ej VJ. Edgecomb was going
- 38:36Speaker 1: to be drafted. He certainly was, and uh, we're certainly
- 38:40Speaker 1: going to be getting into him in a little bit
- 38:41Speaker 1: more detail with what we're thrown down on the table
- 38:43Speaker 1: our discussion and interview this week. But buddy, what were
- 38:47Speaker 1: your overall thoughts? Did you like the way that the
- 38:49Speaker 1: Sixers draft ended here.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, I was extremely happy. The only the
- 38:57Speaker 2: only I talked about the show what a week or
- 38:59Speaker 2: two ago. It was like, I think my point was,
- 39:03Speaker 2: either you trade the pick and get rid of Paul
- 39:05Speaker 2: George's astronomical contract, but still get another pick in return
- 39:12Speaker 2: for that, you know, like the Jazz, the rumor Jazz
- 39:15Speaker 2: trade that was on the table. That was like the
- 39:18Speaker 2: only option. But then in the end it was really like, well,
- 39:21Speaker 2: you got blessed with the third pick of the draft.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Really did get blessed. The only thing better in one
- 39:26Speaker 2: or two, right, But and they sat there at three
- 39:30Speaker 2: and they took the best player available. I think he's
- 39:33Speaker 2: going to be a stud. He's he's a sick, sick athlete.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I think it was the best athlete in the draft
- 39:39Speaker 2: in my opinion. And there was questions about a shooting.
- 39:42Speaker 2: But then I watched a couple of interviews with the
- 39:44Speaker 2: guys that know their stuff, Zach Lowe being one of them,
- 39:48Speaker 2: and he was just talking about Baylor's Baylor's system just
- 39:52Speaker 2: wasn't didn't revolve around shooting outside shooting, so he didn't
- 39:55Speaker 2: he didn't shoot a lot of three pointers. It just
- 39:57Speaker 2: wasn't how they how they ran their offense. And but
- 40:01Speaker 2: from all from everything I've read now, like he's actually
- 40:04Speaker 2: an excellent shooter, just didn't really get to show in college.
- 40:08Speaker 2: So so the the ability to slash to the rim,
- 40:12Speaker 2: and he his verts got to be in the forties,
- 40:14Speaker 2: like that guy, Yeah can leap out of the freaking building.
- 40:17Speaker 2: And the fact he can shoot threes and he's an
- 40:19Speaker 2: absolute workout animals. He saw him the next day he
- 40:22Speaker 2: got drafted. He was in a gym the next day,
- 40:26Speaker 2: like shirt like, sweating his ass off, going against actual competition. Yeah,
- 40:30Speaker 2: I was just like I didn't see a lot of that.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I didn't see Cooper flagged from who's from Maine, by
- 40:34Speaker 2: the way, I didn't see him in the gym that
- 40:36Speaker 2: following day. I don't see Dylan Harper. You know it
- 40:39Speaker 2: might have, but like I I saw Edge Comb in there,
- 40:41Speaker 2: and and just the fact that I think this is huge,
- 40:43Speaker 2: I really, I still I still, I still think this
- 40:46Speaker 2: is important. Like he's hungry, like he wants not just
- 40:50Speaker 2: to win, he wants to play hard and get better
- 40:52Speaker 2: because he came from nothing. Yeah, his family in him
- 40:56Speaker 2: lives off a generator for seven years. I think he's
- 40:58Speaker 2: said incredible.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's funny.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Way when people say, ya, he's from the Bahamas, I'm like, well,
- 41:02Speaker 2: he not on like the beach part, like exactly, he
- 41:06Speaker 2: lives in the ship.
- 41:07Speaker 1: It's gonna say, have you driven through some of those areas.
- 41:10Speaker 2: It's like there's a reason they they they you go
- 41:14Speaker 2: on a big boat and they let you off, Like, well,
- 41:17Speaker 2: don't go past that line though, yeah right here. But yeah,
- 41:22Speaker 2: but that's the part he was from. Man, Like, I
- 41:23Speaker 2: just like that man and his brother was crying for
- 41:26Speaker 2: him because he's so happy, and his mother was just
- 41:28Speaker 2: beside herself, and I'm like, this is a great story.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Then I'm like, I just think that that goes a
- 41:33Speaker 2: long way. And a guy who wanted to get better
- 41:35Speaker 2: and keep his spot, you know what I mean, Like,
- 41:37Speaker 2: you know, he's going to fight to stay in the
- 41:39Speaker 2: league and get better, you know what I mean, Like
- 41:40Speaker 2: he's he's not he's not going back to whatever.
- 41:42Speaker 1: He kind of reminds me of Maxie in a way where.
- 41:45Speaker 2: You know, I think I think he'll be better than Maxie.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but what I mean is by the kind of
- 41:50Speaker 1: attitude coming in and the you know we all talk
- 41:54Speaker 1: about Okay, you know he has to improve his game here,
- 41:56Speaker 1: He's got to improve his game here. Said the same
- 41:58Speaker 1: stuff about Maxie when he was draft and you see
- 42:01Speaker 1: where Maxie has taken his game. Like, never in a
- 42:03Speaker 1: million years did anybody think that Tyrese Maxey was going
- 42:06Speaker 1: to be what he is right now on the cusp
- 42:09Speaker 1: of that stardom so VJ. Edgecombe. I'm seeing similarities here,
- 42:15Speaker 1: I really am. And I think it's going to be
- 42:17Speaker 1: really good for this team long term.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Well yeah, and if I mean for a guy of
- 42:22Speaker 2: his caliber, I think if he's not as good as Maxie,
- 42:28Speaker 2: I'll be disappointed. Like for real, I think he's going
- 42:32Speaker 2: to be better. I think, Yeah, I think he has
- 42:35Speaker 2: a nastier streak in him. Maxie can have a mean streak,
- 42:38Speaker 2: but I think this kid is just like he wants
- 42:41Speaker 2: to shoot your throat, like I think he's he has that.
- 42:43Speaker 2: He has that that as Kendrick is that dog in him. Yeah,
- 42:49Speaker 2: can you shoot them or whatever? But yeah, I think
- 42:52Speaker 2: that was the perfect pick. Thank god they passed on
- 42:56Speaker 2: Canoeball and uh, whatever the hell's name is, I'm happy
- 43:00Speaker 2: enough to say his name anymore because he went to Charlotte.
- 43:02Speaker 2: You're never gonna see him again. Yeah, thank god as Bailey,
- 43:06Speaker 2: they've passed on it.
- 43:07Speaker 1: I was just gonna mention Ace Bailey like that, Like that, dude,
- 43:10Speaker 1: I mean, could you imagine the Sixers getting that, Like
- 43:13Speaker 1: he might be a nice guy. He might be a
- 43:15Speaker 1: nice guy, but like from.
- 43:17Speaker 2: The he doesn't seem it.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Yeah no, but I mean, like from like the sheer
- 43:21Speaker 1: business perspective of what the NBA can be. Very Yeah,
- 43:25Speaker 1: I'm glad the Sixers don't have to deal with that nonsense.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Well, he's the kind of guy where he gets you,
- 43:30Speaker 2: he gets your GM at, he gets your GMS fired
- 43:33Speaker 2: or extended because he might be a disaster. And like
- 43:38Speaker 2: I think Danny Age is okay there, but if a
- 43:40Speaker 2: lesser GM took him and they're losing their job. The
- 43:44Speaker 2: kid they got in the second round, big fan. Actually,
- 43:48Speaker 2: if basically if Cooper Flagg wasn't the Player of the Year,
- 43:53Speaker 2: this kid probably would have won the Naismith Player of
- 43:55Speaker 2: the Year. Yeah, he averaged I think I sent my brother.
- 43:58Speaker 2: He averaged nineteen points, eleven rebounds, two blocks a game,
- 44:03Speaker 2: and he's my brother. Put it. He watched him, he
- 44:06Speaker 2: watched a lot of him, So he's a grown ass man.
- 44:09Speaker 2: He plays basketball like a grown man. I think he
- 44:11Speaker 2: turns twenty three next month. And it's so wild to
- 44:14Speaker 2: me that he didn't go in the first round because
- 44:16Speaker 2: he's twenty three. He's gonna be twenty three. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:18Speaker 2: that's old. Yeah yeah, that's not old, dude like that.
- 44:23Speaker 2: It's ridiculous. Like and if this team's now, if this
- 44:26Speaker 2: team's windows like now, why wouldn't you take a kid
- 44:29Speaker 2: like this who you absolutely can bring off the bench
- 44:32Speaker 2: to fill in it power forward and spots, maybe even
- 44:35Speaker 2: get more minutes than that. I have no idea, right
- 44:37Speaker 2: if he can maybe get his ability to shoot three
- 44:40Speaker 2: pointers a little better, yeah, maybe play some more. But
- 44:42Speaker 2: he's six' ten like two. Fifty he's a big ass.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Dude and the combination of him and the guy they
- 44:47Speaker 2: just signed from The. NETS i sent you guys earlier
- 44:53Speaker 2: while in Or.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Oh, yes, Yes, wetland his name Is.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Wetland, YEAH i think. So it's. Terrible it was one
- 45:02Speaker 2: of like the lesser announced you, know picks or pickups
- 45:05Speaker 2: for in free. Agency but he's either six ten or
- 45:09Speaker 2: twenty two and thirty pound. Guy it's all of a
- 45:12Speaker 2: sudden they have some depth of power.
- 45:13Speaker 1: For It, Watford thank You, trendon who was pretty.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Good off the bench for the next last, year average ten,
- 45:20Speaker 2: points six rebounds a. Game they don't have, us they
- 45:23Speaker 2: don't have your awesome starting power for BUT i don't
- 45:27Speaker 2: think it really matters the guard played they're going to.
- 45:29Speaker 2: HAVE i THOUGHT i thought they knocked the draft out
- 45:31Speaker 2: of the park for for where they. Were honestly love
- 45:34Speaker 2: the analysis.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Here we're going to be continuing to discuss the sixers
- 45:39Speaker 1: when we get back from our. Break, buddy do you
- 45:41Speaker 1: have anything else.
- 45:43Speaker 2: For let's go here of. Course so we talked about
- 45:46Speaker 2: THE nba, draft, yeah and how it was just it
- 45:49Speaker 2: was Not it was not the best. Coverage, no that's
- 45:51Speaker 2: my favorite draft night of the. YEAR i know you
- 45:54Speaker 2: love THE. NFL i LOVE i love THE.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Nba one nothing compares to THE, nfl to be honest
- 45:58Speaker 1: with like the, energy the, ENERGY i THINK i know
- 46:01Speaker 1: where you're going with, this my.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Friend so if you have to go the opposite of,
- 46:07Speaker 2: energy negative. Energy THE Nhl draft was the following, week
- 46:13Speaker 2: AND i KNOW i bash, hockey but like, dude you
- 46:16Speaker 2: got you got, it you gotta pick it.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Up the horrendous it's the worst format of ANY nhl
- 46:23Speaker 1: Draft i've ever.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Seen, okay so when?
- 46:25Speaker 3: When?
- 46:25Speaker 2: Uh when when the guy runs THE? Nfl?
- 46:28Speaker 3: When what?
- 46:29Speaker 2: Else what's his nuts? Again What's Roger? Goodell Roger goodell
- 46:33Speaker 2: like he doesn't have, personality but he doesn't really try.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Anymore Roger goodell is like mister personality compared To Gary.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Bettman oh my.
- 46:41Speaker 2: God he he tried to be funny a couple of.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Times ba he really, did AND i was, like this guy,
- 46:47Speaker 2: sucks couldn't deliver his. Lines, Oh, like imagine being a
- 46:51Speaker 2: party is trying to be. Funny i'd be, like JUST
- 46:53Speaker 2: i keep going out the side of the, room like
- 46:55Speaker 2: who's this fucking who brought this? Guy who's a party?
- 46:57Speaker 1: Pooper and just.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Okay so the format every first round, pick they brought
- 47:02Speaker 2: somebody out or was on a screen for some. Reason
- 47:05Speaker 2: when they were on a, screen they looked like they
- 47:07Speaker 2: were using a Cam. Quarderah like two thousand and.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Five When Brandon graham he ran out saying one of the,
- 47:14Speaker 1: PICKS i think it Was Jack nesbit what it? Was
- 47:18Speaker 1: it looked it looked like he was on A sony
- 47:20Speaker 1: cam quarter THAT i had back in nineteen eighty five.
- 47:24Speaker 2: And couldn't these guys stop what they were. Doing like
- 47:26Speaker 2: he was in a parking lot of a store or
- 47:28Speaker 2: something announcing the. Pick it was so. Weird and the
- 47:31Speaker 2: guy from the retired guy from The sabers was It sean, Something.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, Yeah oh, god why AM i
- 47:38Speaker 1: forgetting his?
- 47:39Speaker 2: Name i'm getting old? Here oh the same whatever pick it.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Was but he was in a. Park you see his
- 47:44Speaker 2: kids playing in the. BACKGROUND i was, like what the
- 47:47Speaker 2: hell is?
- 47:47Speaker 1: This and then they brought the players back into that
- 47:52Speaker 1: back room to talk with THE gm in the front,
- 47:55Speaker 1: office and it was the same. Discussion team after, team
- 48:00Speaker 1: prospect after, prospect it's the same. Thing it was the
- 48:04Speaker 1: worst format.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Ever and you're putting these eighteen year old kids on
- 48:07Speaker 2: the on the on the you, know on the, stage basical,
- 48:12Speaker 2: yeah like spotlights righting on. Them they their whole life just.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Changed they're nervous as. Hell they're in front of a
- 48:19Speaker 2: half filled. AUDITORIUM i mean that that thing. Was they
- 48:22Speaker 2: probably should have darkened the back of. It they should
- 48:25Speaker 2: fans and filled that.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Thing.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Uh and the smattering of an applause for the.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Picks it's so, quiet no energy at, All no like
- 48:34Speaker 1: they were.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Like when the when the kid for uh when when
- 48:38Speaker 2: what's the kid's? Name the First flyers kid they. Took
- 48:42Speaker 2: they were Like flyers fans are, delighted and they just
- 48:45Speaker 2: showed one old. Couple yeah it was an old couple
- 48:48Speaker 2: going yeah, Right i'm, like all two of them are. Thrilled, yes,
- 48:54Speaker 2: anyway but to drag those kids backstage and go immediately
- 48:57Speaker 2: on screen and be interviewed by your bosses And i'm
- 49:03Speaker 2: not Gonna i'm not gonna make fun of the, players
- 49:05Speaker 2: because what are you doing? That but like most hockey
- 49:07Speaker 2: interviews are pretty boring to center you and you know
- 49:11Speaker 2: your interviews are, boring to center the entire format around
- 49:14Speaker 2: interviewing these kids on the spot was such a. Disaster
- 49:18Speaker 2: whoever produced this thing should be fired, immediately find someone
- 49:21Speaker 2: else for next. Years AND i AND i have to
- 49:25Speaker 2: Just i'll just you, know we've talked about this. Before
- 49:27Speaker 2: the the attempt of other sports to recreate THE NBA
- 49:30Speaker 2: TV t AND t show. Show, yes you're just never
- 49:35Speaker 2: gonna do.
- 49:35Speaker 3: It you.
- 49:36Speaker 2: CAN'T i don't care what you, do and THE nfl
- 49:38Speaker 2: has tried for. Years doesn't. Work you have some decent
- 49:41Speaker 2: shows that. Try you always have one guy at the
- 49:44Speaker 2: end and thinks he's way funnier than he is and
- 49:46Speaker 2: he ruins. Everything the baseball one is maybe the worst
- 49:49Speaker 2: version of, it because you, Know Big poppy and A.
- 49:52Speaker 2: ROD i think they're. Hilarious they're just not the the hockey,
- 49:55Speaker 2: one it was totally. Hell it was not.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Good they, try but you cannot manufacture. CHEMISTRY i don't,
- 50:03Speaker 1: know how do these professionals running these multi billion dollar,
- 50:08Speaker 1: companies these media how did they not know? This you
- 50:12Speaker 1: AND i are talking on this dumb podcast here for
- 50:14Speaker 1: how many years, now even with Like len When i'm
- 50:17Speaker 1: on with, Him i'm on with other. Guests i'm telling
- 50:20Speaker 1: other podcasts that we listen. To the chemistry is? There
- 50:25Speaker 1: how how do these people think they can manufacture? Chemistry
- 50:28Speaker 1: it's amazing.
- 50:29Speaker 2: They can't and it's just so. Obvious and whoever was
- 50:32Speaker 2: at the desk for the hockey one decent, analysis you,
- 50:36Speaker 2: know they helped me understand like why this kid was
- 50:38Speaker 2: picked kind of. Thing, yeah but when they off when
- 50:41Speaker 2: they went off, script we're trying to joke, Around i'm, like,
- 50:46Speaker 2: yes you, know we go somewhere. Else, yeah actually really
- 50:53Speaker 2: fun to. Watch i've never watched the whole first, round
- 50:55Speaker 2: but from a train wreck. Standpoint really fun to watch
- 51:00Speaker 2: AND i GET i feel for those. Kids can't.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Wait we're gonna do next?
- 51:04Speaker 2: Year, yeah but you imagine getting hired for your. Job
- 51:07Speaker 2: you go through grueling interviews and then your first, day
- 51:10Speaker 2: see you have to go stand in front of THE.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Ceo and it's good to have, you. Sir, oh thank
- 51:14Speaker 2: you for having.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Me And.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna put a lot of hard work. IN i
- 51:18Speaker 1: can't wait to get to, work, sir.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Can't wait to can't be to. Report i'm gonna work
- 51:23Speaker 2: hard for.
- 51:23Speaker 1: You, yeah that's what every interview is. Like i'm glad
- 51:28Speaker 1: we ended on that. Bit i'm glad we ended on.
- 51:30Speaker 1: That that Was that Was that was, Fantastic what a great.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Discussion all, right.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Well my fan, Out i'm watching every. Year.
- 51:35Speaker 1: FANTASTIC i can't wait to see you. Again what's gonna
- 51:39Speaker 1: do next? Year it's not gonna watch the, games but,
- 51:40Speaker 1: Yeah i'll. Watch, oh thanks thanks a, Lot, right, everybody
- 51:46Speaker 1: we are going to take a. Break we're gonna be
- 51:48Speaker 1: back with some More sixers. Talk stick with us.
- 51:52Speaker 2: And now on the team.
- 51:57Speaker 1: And joining. Us this, WEEK i finally have them on the.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Podcast he is A sixers beat writer over at On
- 52:04Speaker 1: pattison Dot. Com love the. Folks love the content over
- 52:07Speaker 1: at On. Pattison if you have not been over, there
- 52:11Speaker 1: check out everything they have going. On fantastic. Content we've
- 52:13Speaker 1: Got austin Kraw, buddy how you, doing my?
- 52:15Speaker 3: Man not? Bad thank you for having, Me.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Josh, yeah it's great to have you on the show.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Here in all, honesty it's been like a long time
- 52:22Speaker 1: Since i've been wanting to have you. On finally have
- 52:24Speaker 1: the opportunity And i'm, like, yes thank, goodness because there's
- 52:27Speaker 1: a lot going on in the world Of Sixers nation
- 52:30Speaker 1: here and my co Host eric AND i we were
- 52:32Speaker 1: just talking about the. Draft we were talking about WHAT.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Vj edgecombe And Johnny broom, like what they're gonna be
- 52:38Speaker 1: able to give this team in the. Future AND i
- 52:40Speaker 1: know you've done some analysis over on On pattison about both.
- 52:45Speaker 1: PLAYERS i, mean you wrote a pretty good piece this
- 52:46Speaker 1: past week about the qualities that aligned edgecomb with The.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Sixers so just want to get into this and you
- 52:54Speaker 1: know what we're gonna be seeing with this. Team what
- 52:56Speaker 1: are your thoughts about what type of players these guys
- 52:59Speaker 1: are here and what they're really going to mean for
- 53:01Speaker 1: The philadelphia seventy six ers moving forward.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Here SO i kind of think that The sixers spent
- 53:07Speaker 3: a lot of time doing their due diligence on both
- 53:10Speaker 3: guys or on really the draft in. General but they
- 53:14Speaker 3: HAVE i think the experience they've had With yes in
- 53:19Speaker 3: his development and this the kind of person he, is
- 53:23Speaker 3: And jared McCain going from The siftems overall pick to
- 53:27Speaker 3: being The rookie of The year front runner for a. While,
- 53:30Speaker 3: YEAH i think they've begun to really prioritize the people
- 53:36Speaker 3: that are that are within the, Players and so WITH,
- 53:39Speaker 3: Vj Daryl morey told, us, like you just see the
- 53:44Speaker 3: versus all. Maturity carries himself like a veteran, player and
- 53:47Speaker 3: that's hard to do at that. Age, yeah he has
- 53:50Speaker 3: a great family and support system by him and they
- 53:53Speaker 3: all love them and just did the admiration and respect
- 53:57Speaker 3: his siblings have for, Him so they felt like they
- 53:59Speaker 3: were getting a really good person underlying that underlying the prospect,
- 54:05Speaker 3: obviously and then they you, Know vj's work ethic has
- 54:12Speaker 3: been chronicled and has received brave Reviews yes for a,
- 54:17Speaker 3: While so it kind of makes sense, that, like given
- 54:20Speaker 3: their recent history of success in this era of getting
- 54:24Speaker 3: guys who have some development to go or OR i
- 54:27Speaker 3: have or underrated but have strong work. Ethics they tend
- 54:31Speaker 3: to go for those title. Players and SO vj is uber,
- 54:35Speaker 3: athletic has some development to be, done but they're certainly
- 54:40Speaker 3: willing to invest the time and the patients and him
- 54:44Speaker 3: to become that.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Guy, yeah what about with The Johnny joan Is johnny
- 54:48Speaker 1: Or Joney. Jani, Yeah i'm completely messing it up AS i.
- 54:53Speaker 1: DO i tell. PEOPLE i mean it has been an ongoing,
- 54:57Speaker 1: issue an issue for the past twelve years we've been
- 55:00Speaker 1: doing the, Show LIKE i mess Up John. Smith, BASICALLY
- 55:02Speaker 1: i can't BELIEVE i just.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Said John smith.
- 55:04Speaker 2: Right, anyway it.
- 55:05Speaker 1: Happens what are your thoughts on, him what he's going
- 55:08Speaker 1: to really be able to bring to the team as? Well,
- 55:10Speaker 1: Again eric AND i were just talking about, it want
- 55:12Speaker 1: to get your.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Perspective SO i don't think there's a clear. Fit, like
- 55:18Speaker 3: he's not a very good perimeter, shooter not very. Athletic
- 55:23Speaker 3: he is somebody who you can trust to make passes
- 55:29Speaker 3: out of the. Post so like he is a guy
- 55:32Speaker 3: you give the balls to who he's a bruiser, inside
- 55:34Speaker 3: but he can also read cutters and and if he's
- 55:38Speaker 3: drawing extra attention from a, helper then kick the. Shooter
- 55:43Speaker 3: so he has that skill. Set it is a different
- 55:46Speaker 3: flavor from what they've been used to out of their backup.
- 55:49Speaker 3: Bigs and there will be certain MATCHUPS i would imagine
- 55:52Speaker 3: where a Den bona will play because they need just
- 55:55Speaker 3: more of a hyper athlete who can jump out of the. Building,
- 55:58Speaker 3: yeah there'll be certain times when they needed gollij AND
- 56:00Speaker 3: i who was older and you know has is maybe
- 56:06Speaker 3: a little bit more, built even though he's a. ROOKIE
- 56:09Speaker 3: i also think that they valued like the fact that
- 56:11Speaker 3: he Was he did a ton of winning in college At.
- 56:15Speaker 3: Auburn it was the best player in college basketball last last,
- 56:20Speaker 3: season and he scaled pretty well from going from it
- 56:24Speaker 3: was morehead state to a much bigger conference in Where auburn,
- 56:30Speaker 3: is and you, know he played well. THERE i thought
- 56:33Speaker 3: one of the more telling things about him as a
- 56:35Speaker 3: person was like he said that two years ago did
- 56:39Speaker 3: the combine and he went about regular talks with teams
- 56:44Speaker 3: and The sixers one of the, teams and they gave
- 56:47Speaker 3: him a bunch of things to focus on or like
- 56:49Speaker 3: a bunch of feedback about how he can improve and
- 56:51Speaker 3: then when he came back this past, combine they were
- 56:55Speaker 3: impressed with how far he'd. Come so clearly he's coachable and. Developing, well,
- 57:00Speaker 3: yeah and you're coachable typically means that you can, leave
- 57:03Speaker 3: you go at the door and treat and treat the
- 57:05Speaker 3: business like the business and do the. Work SO i
- 57:08Speaker 3: think he's a guy who is just. Somebody he's a
- 57:11Speaker 3: guy you like to bet. ON i think for being totally,
- 57:14Speaker 3: Honest LIKE i can't really get a number for what
- 57:17Speaker 3: his cap is going to be his salary this, season
- 57:20Speaker 3: so to, me it implies a little bit that maybe
- 57:23Speaker 3: they drafted him partially because he was willing to take
- 57:25Speaker 3: a lower salary in first. Year so we'll see if
- 57:29Speaker 3: that comes to fruitioner if that's. True just my. Suspicion
- 57:31Speaker 3: but they both guys came in On friday with a
- 57:38Speaker 3: lot of family, there and you know that they appear
- 57:42Speaker 3: to be high quality. People this is not An Ace bailey,
- 57:46Speaker 3: situation WHICH i mean intel and As bailey is in
- 57:50Speaker 3: telling As, bailey the person is not bad like everyone
- 57:52Speaker 3: people have, said he's a good, dude teammates like and.
- 57:54Speaker 3: Whatnot but there's this cloud that has followed him right
- 58:00Speaker 3: through this draft, process and you just you See jeni
- 58:04Speaker 3: and you see bj and they're just genuinely very great
- 58:06Speaker 3: Houl it'll Be, Sixers, yeah, yeah.
- 58:08Speaker 1: ABSOLUTELY i mean culture is so important to This sixers,
- 58:11Speaker 1: team the. Organization they've got two uh, great great guys
- 58:15Speaker 1: coming in for. Sure but as we're moving along Here,
- 58:17Speaker 1: AUSTIN i think it's interesting how these new draft, picks
- 58:21Speaker 1: how they how we're looking at, them how they're going
- 58:23Speaker 1: to play into the future of what This sixers team
- 58:26Speaker 1: may or may not. BE i, mean everything is about
- 58:30Speaker 1: health With Joe El embiid and With Paul george moving.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Forward everything we know that as a fan. Base But i'm,
- 58:37Speaker 1: wondering what are your thoughts on some folks in the
- 58:39Speaker 1: fan base Saying sixers aren't gonna go anywhere next, Year
- 58:43Speaker 1: they're not gonna go anywhere next season because they're running
- 58:45Speaker 1: back with same group of, guys same old group of.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Guys that it's that. NARRATIVE i want to get your
- 58:51Speaker 1: thoughts on, it, because, like WHILE i believe there's some
- 58:53Speaker 1: validity to, IT i believe there needs to be balanced
- 58:56Speaker 1: with what with what we have seen with this team
- 58:59Speaker 1: in terms terms of its roster construction and what the
- 59:03Speaker 1: realities are in terms of contracts as. Well SO i
- 59:06Speaker 1: don't know can The sixers be, successful you, know quote
- 59:09Speaker 1: running it back with much of the same. Talent what
- 59:12Speaker 1: are your?
- 59:12Speaker 3: Thoughts, YEAH i mean it's it's it isn't Like joel
- 59:18Speaker 3: is coming back from a fluky broken hand or like
- 59:23Speaker 3: a fluky thing that, is you, know you you take
- 59:26Speaker 3: the time, off you get, treated and then you're ready
- 59:28Speaker 3: and you're and you're one hundred percent like this is
- 59:32Speaker 3: ostensibly going to be a chronic knee issue throughout the
- 59:34Speaker 3: remainder of his. Career and it's the bet that they're
- 59:38Speaker 3: making is, like can we just capture the year where
- 59:41Speaker 3: he's healthy and he can just keep it that bay
- 59:44Speaker 3: long enough to go on a playoff? Runt and is
- 59:48Speaker 3: it a good? BET i have no idea Because i'm
- 59:50Speaker 3: not a, doctor and we don't, know, right and the
- 59:54Speaker 3: people like people act as if they do, know And i'm, like,
- 59:57Speaker 3: okay but you don't, know like you really you're. Not
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: you're not accessing his medical, records you don't know the
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: you don't have the institutional knowledge of what is happening
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: day to, day how he's feeling and. Responding he could cut,
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: like for, instance The ringer ranked him eighty third or
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: eighty fourth best player in the. League he could come
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: back on day one and feasibly returned, to you, know
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: a high level of his former. Self and if that's the,
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: case then he's very clearly a top you, know thirty
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: player in the, league twenty five, player whatever you wanna call.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: IT i mean we're forgetting that just a year and
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: a half ago or whatever it was he was he
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: was setting historic records and was the front runner to
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: WIN mvp. Again SO i don't think it's it's that
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: crazy to think that he can return to a high.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Level it is isn't something THAT i would advise people
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: to bet, on right because it's. Hard it's hard to Know.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Paul you, know he does have some chronic, history but
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: that with with, that with with with knee injuries and
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: the bone. BRUISES i don't really know how to place
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: him in terms of Variable like how much of last
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: season was him taking a look at the team and
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: where the things were going and just saying, Like i'll,
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: play but, like was there a game out of me
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: applying my? Best AND i understand that's a frustrating thing
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: to hear as a fan when the guy is making mac.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: Money but it does matter when you're going into the
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: future and thinking about, okay like WHEN i, really if
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: things are going, well what does this guy look? Like
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: and is this can this guy peasibly return to not
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: even a better version of, himself but just the guy
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: that he was a year ago and he Was All
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: star at The clippers at thirty, three thirty four averaging
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: twenty something five five, whatever whatever it, WAS i, Forget
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: BUT i think in this version of The, east where
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: you have two teams that would have figured to be
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: ahead of The sixers who have guys with torn, atillies,
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: THERE i, mean there is a path where if you
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: happen to hit at everything and get and get the
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: the inverse of last year's injury, luck you could very well,
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: be you, know the top of The. East now would
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: anybody believe in that? Team probably not because playoff playoff
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: track records of the individuals on the team is not. Great,
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: yeah but also because you're just waiting for the shoot
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: to drop The joel in his.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Health the one Thing i'll, say Though austin, too is
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: that and nothing in THE nba is really going to
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: surprise me too much, anymore to be honest with, you
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: especially after this past. Season you have The Boston, celtics
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: number two seed in The Eastern, conference and they just
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: like fell like a sack of potatoes for various. Reasons
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: injuries plaguing the team as. Well that would that was
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: a contributing factor to and nobody thought The Indiana pacers
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: were gonna do what they necessarily did in terms of
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: getting to THE Nba finals and almost being able to
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: potentially Take game. Seven, LIKE i didn't see. It they
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: were a good team this, year but In January, FEBRUARY
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: i didn't see that. HAPPENING i think we need to
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: go into this six er season as fans, saying you know,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: what there is a possibility for just about anything to potentially,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: happen and we can divvy it up percentage, wise, uh you,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: know however you. Want but in THIS nba climate and,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: atmosphere and especially in The, EAST i think anything is. Possible.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: YEAH i, mean no one would have. SAID i mean
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: there was some writing on the wall a year ago
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: at The celtics because they had just sold to a new.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Owner, yeah no.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: One no one would have said, That like they were
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: about to undergo a massive makeover and tear up the. Coral,
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: yeah Porzingis, Tatum, White holiday And. Brown SO i, mean
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: like it's. You you never know what's going to. Happen
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: especially with this new collective working. Agreement so many teams
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: change course so. Quickly indiana was thought to be a
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: mainstay and now they just lost their center And Terry
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: talburton's out for most of most of, it all of next.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Year The cavaliers figure to be in the. Mix orlando
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: is getting, better there are other teams Are, detroit other
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: teams are getting, better And i'm forgetting About but the point,
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: is this is not The west where you have a
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: sixty eight When locomotive all under cost controlled contracts in first,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: place and you have The Durant rockets in second, place
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: and there's it's it's an open conference right, now AND
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: i think you have to even if you don't want
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: to open your heart to, it WHICH i totally get
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: as a, fan you still have to go in with
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: the logical thought that there is a chance that this
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: could actually swing In sister's favor and it's actually a
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: really good.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Year absolutely absolutely, again. Folks talking To Austin krall from
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: On pattison Dot, Com. Austin let everybody know where they
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: can find you on the interwebs out there if they
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: want to follow what you what you and your colleagues are.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Doing, YEAH i can find me On twitter or, ACT nba.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Crell right, now we're in the middle of off season,
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: work so as most of it Is i'm doing every,
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: Day i'm staring at the cap sheet and figuring it.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Out let's go to happen next and, yeah it's gonna
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: break my. Brain you can find me on On Blue
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: sky At austin crowd, Dot besky dot social if you're.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: There that's mostly WHERE i do most of my. Posting so,
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: yeah that's you can find. Me.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Awesome sounds. Good, well there is a name that used
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: to be on this seventy six ers team THAT i
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: am able to actually say, correctly and That's Gershon. Yabaselli
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: this gentleman is now A New york nick and it pains.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: Me it's.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Tough it's a tough one to. Swallow for. Sure him
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: going to a team that's likely going to be near
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: the top of The Eastern conference next.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Year it was just.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Disappointing as a. FAN i wanted him back to be,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: honest why do you think The sixers basically didn't want
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: to keep him around It maybe he just didn't didn't
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: necessarily try hard. Enough you talked about how you're looking
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: at the you, know you're looking at the, financials you're
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: looking at the sheets every. Day you, know there were
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: obvious money issues with this as. Well But Gershon yabaselli
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: becoming a nick you, know could The sixers have kept him?
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: Around what are your thoughts?
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: Here so, financially, yes that could have cut them. Around it's,
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: POSSIBLE i would, say like in terms of just, legally,
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: yes it could have been. Done NOW i think we
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: have to take a step back here and think, like,
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: okay what do they have left to? Do and you,
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Know Quentin, grimes say what you will about the quality
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: of team he had around, him or that the section
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: was with four and twenty eight after the trade, deadline
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: whatever it. Was the first one was something, like, yeah
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: it was about, that, yeah, yeah, yep and like the
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: guy was at the best half season of his career
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: and he outshot his shot, quality so he was making
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: tough shots literally every game all game, long athletic really
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: good point with tech. Defender he figures if you scale
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: him down in a lesser role With joelle And tyresee
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: And Paul george next to, him he should be able
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: to excel or keep that keep that same efficiency. Going
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: so you get to ask, yourself, like okay's what matters
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: to Meymore Quentin grimes Or Gershan. Yabusseller, Yeah AND i
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: think part of the logic has to, Be, Yeah grimes
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: is not only a restricted free, agent but he's also
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: you also have the bird rights on. Him you can
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: match whatever it takes to keep him. Around and you
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: look at this roster and it's fifty five million For,
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: joel thirty, seven thirty eight million For maxi this is
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: the next, season fifty two million roughly To Paul. George
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: and there's a, massive, massive massive drop in the annual
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: values of their contracts after. That so you're finding that
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: there's not a lot of trade flexibility up and down this.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Roster so even if you're not the big the Biggest
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Quentin grimes, believer even if you don't think he's worth
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: what he's asking, for he's still an asset and that you,
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: get you get him. Back let's say you're giving him
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: sixteen seventeen million a, year even if things, don't even
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: if you find that other needs, emerge there is still
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: you can still use him as a trade chip to
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: get somebody else or get a couple of other guys
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: down the. Line so in terms of, it whether it
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: be a player himself or just having that trade, asset
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: it is important to keep Quitting, grimes and you can't
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: in the order of operations on the on the cap,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: sheet you could not afford to go spend anything that
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: never get money until you knew What grimes had to, offer,
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: yeah or What grinds. Wanted you COULD i wouldn't make this,
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: case but you could, say, like you, know If grime
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: had just agreed to his deal sooner or like been reasonable,
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: sooner MAYBE i sell it's. True maybe it's not true,
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: though BECAUSE i think we all assume. THAT i think
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: a lot of people assume that just because The sickness
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: have access to the mid level, exceptions it doesn't mean
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: it doesn't it doesn't mean that they're going to use.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Them in, fact that it is pretty punitive if you
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: choose to use either, exception and the stickers might look
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: at it as, like you, know we are committed to this,
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: team but we really don't know what we're going to
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: look like or what we're going to be in need
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: of at the trade. Deadline we don't know trades we might,
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: make and we just don't feel like capping ourselves at this,
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: price at this at this you, know total payroll by
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: committing To Gershan. Yabuseli, now so he, leaves and he
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: was a very good find for them on the minimum last.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: Year obviously a fan, favorite really good. PERSON i was
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: going to get limitations that made him a little bit
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: overrated locally just but he. Was he was the one
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: that he was one of the good things that stood
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: out a terrible. Season so naturally there's some emotional equity. There,
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Yeah AND i MEAN i Think Trendon, watford who was
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: figures to play a significant role on this. Team we
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: don't really know much about him because he played with
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: the nets and no one's watching the. Nets but there
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: is a different contrast of skill set there that like
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: similar size To, yabuseli maybe not as bulky and built
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: because he doesn't have the years of professional experience That,
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: yabu but different set of. Skills does some things that
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: they needed and didn't have last year pretty, Well so you,
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: know you rather take that flyer on a guy on
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: a minimum than, hey a guy in the mid level
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: when that decision can restrict you.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: More, yeah makes. Sense it does make sense absolutely. Well
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: as we're moving along with the conversation, here there was
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: a lot of disinterest Amongst sixers fans with Having Eric
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: gordon returning to this. Team NOW i know It's Eric.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Gordon it's not the greatest storyline to necessarily be talking,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: about BUT i think it's an important storyline. Too sixer
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: has given him a one year. Deal it's a veteran minimum,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: deal as you. Know AND i say it's important because
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: it appears the idea for him is to be that
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: mentor TO.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Vj.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Edgecombe And i'm wondering what your overall thoughts are on
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: this resigning and what it could actually mean to the
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: development of this rookie who we have high hope For Eric.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Gordon your thoughts on the re signing, here what are you?
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: THINKING i would say With, Eric i'm a little bit
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: surprised that he's, back just BECAUSE i didn't get the
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: sense from him that he was like loving the idea
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: of playing a major role on a team that was not.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: Winning AND i Mean he has made comments in the
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: past that when he was playing For, houston they were
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: outwardly they were clearly, rebuilding like very clearly miserable in that.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Situation so the fact that he came back tells me
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: that there was just not a competitive market for, him
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: and it also tells me that like there was probably
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: some you, know some level of. Agreement you, know, hey
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: if you if you opt out of your of your
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: of your second year, here and if you do that
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: for us and lower the cap hit because there is
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: a lower cap hit in the Second there was a
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: higher cap hit in the second year on a minimum
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: deal if he signed it for two, years, obviously then
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: there is in the first year of a new minimum.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: Deal so basically they, said we can give you more
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: money on a new minimum one year deal while also
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: lowering our cab hit by doing that if you agree
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: to opt, out and so it's mutually. Beneficial but that
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: with they. Did it was a similar thought when they
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: re Signed Montres harral a couple couple of summers. Ago
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: and SO i Think i'm not surprised in that sense
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: that he's. BACK i do think That eric was a
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: lone bright spot as a shooter for, Them like, overall
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: he was very clearly overtaxed defensively and trying to drive
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: off the dribble and was very much showing his age.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: There they has a. Shooter he had a really tough
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: two months and then he really took. Off he shot
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: like fifty two from three to the last month before his,
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: injury which is. Excellent he also was a really good,
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: spacer like he would shoot from thirty five plus plus
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: feed out and make it. Regularly and while maybe you're
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: good for two of those makes a game and it's
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: only six, points it's the skill set of like defenses,
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: UNDERSTAND i have to account for this. Guy and if
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: you get another Shooter oute there on the court in
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: a more limited, role ideally that just makes it a
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: little bit easier For Tyrese, maxi for the other guys
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: who you care more about to do their, jobs then,
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: yeah it's probably worth. It BECAUSE, dj you, KNOW dj.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: PLAYED dj played a significant role for The bahamas team
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: last summer in The, olympics and that team Featured buddy
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: Heeled Ayton Eric, gordon and they part of their problem
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: was That Eric gordon was the starting point guard that
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: you're not going to get very far at, that but,
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: like like you could see there was a personal relationship,
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: There there was there was some like this is my
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: young guy, here and if that helps TEACH. Vj you,
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: know how to maintain his professional stature and how to
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: grow someone who he's comfortable with and familiar with in
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: his his rookie, year THEN i don't see a problem with.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Him in, fact like there's this intangible value that we
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: don't really know of because we don't we're not privy
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: to everything that happens behind the, scenes but like we
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: don't really know how much of an impact That Kyle
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: lowry is having on the likes of A jared McCain
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: or he's what he's teaching. Them same being can be
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: said For Eric. Gordon we don't know how much value you,
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: know he's providing for young guys like you, know whether it's,
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: McCain whether It's Justin, edwards whether IT'S. Vj. Edgecombe SO i,
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: think while WHILE i understand you don't want to get
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: older and you don't want to run back out at
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: the same guy as you ran back last, YEAR i
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: typically am someone who doesn't mind if the last and
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: second to Last prosser spots or minimums for veterans who
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: are providing as much intangible value as they are tangible.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Value, yeah, well BEFORE i let you, go, Buddy, uh you,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: know free agency is basically upon us, here so AND
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: i know it's a general, question but how do you
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: think The sixers are going to handle free agency this off?
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Season and who are you hoping that they may end
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: up targeting?
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Here SO.
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: I don't think they'll do, It but if we're looking
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: at a situation where they want to bring they want
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: a veteran guard with a lot of all star equity and.
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: Experience if you're gonna if you're if you're really thinking
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: about Bringing Kyle lauer, BACK i think you might as
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: well also be, like, well why don't we just like
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Call Chris paul to see what he's up? There?
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: There you go like and like like like and we it.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: Is it is somewhat laughable given how old they, are
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: but if we, are if we, are if they, are
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: hell then on keeping a, coaches a second coach there
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: on the. Floor if you're gonna go for, one you
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: might as well go For Chris. Paul Yet Chris, Paul
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Chris paul obviously want to be out in The West
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: coast wants to. Contend this is obviously a big question,
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: mark and it's not even close to the exact office
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: the coast to The West, coast SO i wouldn't count on.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: IT i certainly wouldn't think it's gonna. Happen but my
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: logic would, be if you're gonna, if if you're gonna
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: entertain seriously bring Back Kyle, lowry might as well at
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: least go For Chris. Paul in terms of what they will,
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: do they sit twenty million below the second apron right.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: NOW i would assume most of that money will go
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: To Quentin, grimes and in that case they will have
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: room for like one more minimum, contract so maybe they'll
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: give it to a. Veteran maybe they will go some bargain. Hunting,
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: AGAIN i would keep an eye on what they do
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: With Android. Drummond obviously there's been a lot of smoke
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: to the, idea and they would look to get off that.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: CONTRACT i think With Pat conninson being traded By milwaukee
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: for basically the cost of the second round, pick it
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: shouldn't be all that challenging to get rid of drummond.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: Debt worst case, scenario so if they can find the
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: way they shed. Salary maybe they Traded uber. Too you're
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: opening up a significant bit of money to spend. Elsewhere
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: BUT i also think like this is a poor class
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: free agents That mark is drying up pretty. Quickly so
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: Like Quinton grimes might be the second best GUY i
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: left and at that, point like like like you're basically done.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: Anyway SO i wouldn't expect, TOO i wouldn't expect much
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: sexy activity in their infre. Agency, STILL i would say
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: that there is a chance that they trade some one
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: or multiple, someones in which case maybe that opened up
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: some opportunities for. Them but that's WHERE i think it.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: ENDS i think they fully knew going in and they
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: weren't going to be much it was gonna be much.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Change, yeah all, Right, well it was a great Conversation
