- 0:54Speaker 1: Of b the We all welcome to this week's show.
- 1:02We can continue talking about the holy Sacrament of the
- 1:05Eucharus this week, and we'll talk specifically about preparation for
- 1:10receiving Holy Communion, very important. But before we do that,
- 1:14we'll get back into radio replies. We've got a couple
- 1:16more questions and answers from one of the callers or
- 1:20writers to their radio show back in the twenties thirties.
- 1:25I don't remember fathers Rumbel and Karti, one in Australia,
- 1:30one in England who did a wonderful job in refuting
- 1:33all the Protestant and atheistic arguments of the day. And
- 1:38the one that is a questioning now is does seem
- 1:41to be more on the atheistic agnostics side, progressive and
- 1:46politically could have been, you know, college professor, but more
- 1:50than likely. You got to remember about this time, the
- 1:54Salvation Army was huge and it was formed by Colonel Booth.
- 1:59It was a quasi Christian association. Okay, Colonel Booth was
- 2:05really more close to being an atheist than he was
- 2:09an agnostic. Now we don't think of the Salvation Army
- 2:15as a religious organization anymore. We think of them as
- 2:18just a charitable organization, but in the nineteen twenties thirties
- 2:23forties they were very much behind the Temperance movement. Of course,
- 2:28the main movers of the Temperance movement, the people that
- 2:31were putting it together, were Freemasons and Communists, and one
- 2:38of the main goals was to shut down every Catholic
- 2:40church because they didn't want to have wine for communion.
- 2:44The Salvation Army was extremely anti Catholic, extremely anti Catholic.
- 2:51They would go into slums and poor neighborhoods and they
- 2:57go in and if there was a bar of liquor
- 2:59store or they'd break the windows, burn it down, drag
- 3:04people out on the street, beat the crap out of them,
- 3:07and then lecture the women that their husbands were worthless
- 3:12drunks and they should divorce them. And they were. They
- 3:17had to free themselves from the Catholic Church in order
- 3:20to be able to divorce them, and their husbands were
- 3:22worthless drunks because of the Catholic Church. It was not good.
- 3:28The whole Reform and Temperance movement very much. In the
- 3:32Mountains where I grew up well part of my life,
- 3:36there was a big reform movement among the Presbyterians, and
- 3:39they did the exact same thing in the Mountains, and
- 3:41they put those children in orphanages. Yep, they would convince
- 3:46the women to divorce their husbands. Guy could just go
- 3:48out and have a couple of drinks, you know, maybe
- 3:50he was not a drunk, maybe he was not an
- 3:53alcoholic at all. But they convinced in the Presbyterian, Lutheran
- 3:58churches and the Baptist churches to extent, the women of
- 4:01the community that if their husband drank even a drop
- 4:04of alcohol, he was going to Hell and they had
- 4:07a duty to divorce him and put their children in
- 4:10an orphanage. And they broke up families throughout the Mountain day.
- 4:14It was one of the most destructive forces in Appalachian culture,
- 4:19was the Reform and Temperance movement, and to this day
- 4:22people still celebrated they and you can look at those
- 4:27who founded those orphanages and the ones who were behind
- 4:31the reform as they call it movement in the Presbyterian Church.
- 4:35They were full on communists. They were eugenicists. I mean,
- 4:40they not only wanted these women to divorce their husbands
- 4:43put their children in the orphanage, but then they usually
- 4:45encourage them to be sterilized, and once abortion became legal,
- 4:49they pushed abortion like crazy, and they still do. There's
- 4:53not a Presbyterian college in North Carolina, and I haven't
- 4:57been to one in you know. I know about you know,
- 5:00I did three semesters at one in the mountains of
- 5:03North Carolina. My mother went to one in the eastern
- 5:05part of North Carolina. I've had conversations with people at
- 5:10different ones. I don't know about other states, but I
- 5:12can tell you in North Carolina there is not a
- 5:14single Presbyterian college that is not entirely communist and pro abortion,
- 5:20in progae, anti family, and they hate nothing more than
- 5:24the Catholic Church. They will call themselves progressive Democrats. But
- 5:32you know, when you went into Laurenberg, where my mother
- 5:35went to school, Scotland County, North Carolina. Well through the
- 5:39nineties when Bill Clinton was in office, billboards with a
- 5:43klansmen and the Saint Andrew's cross, the symbol of the
- 5:47Presbyterian Church, and it said the Knights of the Ku
- 5:50Klux Klan welcome you to our county. Remember to obey
- 5:53our laws. Left out one sentence there, didn't I It
- 5:57said the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Scotland
- 6:01County and the Democratic Party of North Carolina. Welcome you
- 6:05to Scotland County. Remember to obey our laws. They had
- 6:07them on the interstate, probably up around Mount Olive College,
- 6:12which I think was more Baptists. Actually, somewhere in the
- 6:14Benson area did the Masonic Order, the k Klux Klan
- 6:19and the Presbyterian Church, and to some extent the Baptist
- 6:23Church to some extent in the Methodist Church. But essentially
- 6:26the clan and the Freemasons are a Anglican and Presbyterian organization.
- 6:32You know, as the Anglican Church began to dive back,
- 6:35they began to get more involved in the Baptist and
- 6:38Methodist churches. And the Lutherans are pretty much gone in
- 6:42North Carolina. Mean there I doubt you could put in
- 6:44find enough Lutherans in North Carolina. Well, now, I should
- 6:47say that's what'd be in the eastern part of the state. Now,
- 6:50the western part of the state around Cataba County, the
- 6:52Hickory area of western Charlotte, there are a lot more Lutherans,
- 6:56but the Klan was not that active in the western
- 6:59part of this state. The Clan was far more active
- 7:02in the eastern part of the state. But the Presbyterian
- 7:07Church was freemason liberal, progressive, socialist, communists, whatever you want
- 7:15to call it. I mean, you're in the sixties and seventies.
- 7:17There were Presbyterian organizations hiding black panthers and weather underground
- 7:23members and giving them faculty positions, you know, and they
- 7:28really never even tried to hide it. But they took
- 7:32the issue of Catholic drinking wine at communion and turned
- 7:37that into their crusade. It started in England, but boy
- 7:42did it pick up speed in the United States. I mean,
- 7:46these were really bad people. These I mean, really, I'm
- 7:49not just saying advocated for abortion. These It was American
- 7:55progressive democrats, socialists, usually Presbyterians, sometimes Anglicans, but usually Presbyterians
- 8:02who came up with the idea for the gas chambers
- 8:05in Europe, in Germany and Poland and all that mass
- 8:09extermination of people they thought to be inferior races. And
- 8:14their main stated goal is to destroy the Catholic Church
- 8:17and to destroy the family. You know, they went in
- 8:20and crusaded we're all about women, we're all about children.
- 8:23They absolutely wanted to destroy the family. Now in our
- 8:27modern time, the Salvation Armies seems to bear no resemblance
- 8:32to its founding. I don't know. I think they have
- 8:35AA meetings and they do a lot for homeless people
- 8:38and job training. And we had a hurricane here in
- 8:41the mountains. They were one of the organizations that helped out.
- 8:45That's great. Maybe they have reformed themselves, the so called reformers.
- 8:51Maybe they have reformed themselves. I have no idea. I
- 8:55have spoken to very few Catholics that realize the anti
- 8:58Catholic roots of the Salvation Army. And I've spoken to
- 9:02very few Salvation Army members who realized that their organization
- 9:06was founded essentially to destroy the Catholic Church. So you know,
- 9:11who knows what happened along the way. But Colonel Booth
- 9:16was a very very evil man and Antichrist, and you
- 9:22know Mary Baker Eddie, and oh so many came out
- 9:26of there, So many came out of their ranks of
- 9:30like there's one name, I'm blanking on it, the one
- 9:35that used to go around with an axe, busting up
- 9:38taverns and such. I mean, these were violent, actually very
- 9:43violent radical terrorists. They had a strong alliance with the
- 9:48anarchist movement of the time that's still to this day Antifa. Okay.
- 9:53These were people that were the you know in the
- 9:55old cartoons, the mad bombers. They just wanted to disrupt
- 9:59this and mainly they wanted They were very anti Catholic.
- 10:04They were, you know, sort of one step radicalized beyond
- 10:07the communists, who you might say were one step radicalized
- 10:10beyond the progressives. But if you go back in nineteen
- 10:13twenties and thirties, they were violent. I mean it didn't
- 10:16matter if it was the Salvation Army or the what
- 10:22was her name that is going to bug me, Carrie Nation,
- 10:27Carrie Nation. These were also the radical feminists of their time,
- 10:34and they would go in and they would beat the
- 10:36crap out of people, and they would set fire to things,
- 10:39and they would blow things up. This was not a peaceful,
- 10:44you know, solidarity let's go out and hold some signs
- 10:47and seeing we show overcome. No. No, nineteen really, let's
- 10:53just say late eighteen. Hundreds fall in the Civil War,
- 10:56so we're talking around eighteen ninety two about nineteen for really,
- 11:02they were very much allied with the radical labor movement.
- 11:06I mean there were places where communists would go in
- 11:09and organize coal miners for instance. Okay, coal miners had
- 11:15a lot of reason to unionize against their bosses. They're
- 11:19being very badly mistreated copper miners. I mean a lot
- 11:22of these people. And you know, it's no problem at all.
- 11:26You know, the Catholic Church, there's nothing against people organizing
- 11:29for their common rights, and they were being treated worse
- 11:34than slaves in many cases. But there were communist agitators
- 11:39that would go in there and to have them pick
- 11:43up arms. I mean there was actually, I think it
- 11:46was West Virginia cood in Kentucky. I think it was
- 11:49West Virginia. I mean, the National Guard had to be
- 11:52called out and there were miners with guns shooting in
- 11:54American soldiers and vice versa. I mean, it was not
- 11:59the way it's portrayed in movies, the way the temperance
- 12:02movements to portrayed, the feminist movement, the you know, women's
- 12:07trade to vote, whatever, it's suffrage, suffragettes, the labor movement,
- 12:13not at all what's portrayed on by Hollywood. And this
- 12:18goes Hollywood was privilege full of communists and they made
- 12:20him into sympathetic characters where you know, some of them
- 12:23had a real beef and they could have worked it
- 12:26out peacefully, but instead they were really encouraged they I mean,
- 12:31they wanted a Bolshevik revolution here in the United States.
- 12:35They basically almost had one in Mexico slaughtered many many Catholics,
- 12:41and had you know, Pancha Villa been able to continue
- 12:45north into Texas, who knows what would have happened. I mean,
- 12:48we came incredibly close to a communist revolution in this country,
- 12:56you know, right around the turn of the century. And
- 12:58it's because, I mean, the nation was just destroyed by
- 13:02the Civil War and it was ripe to be taken
- 13:04advantage of anyway. And you know, I just I wish
- 13:09we had history books that actually tell the truth, history
- 13:13books that actually tell the truth. I mean, I don't
- 13:18know about here in the United States, but I know
- 13:20there were some in England who were followers of Colonel Booth,
- 13:25whether they were Salvation Army or not, they would not
- 13:32help a person unless they renounced Catholicism. You know, someone
- 13:35could be starving to death and really suffering from alcohol
- 13:39poisoning and really need the help they were supposed to
- 13:41provide unless they renounced Catholicism. They wouldn't help them. And
- 13:46you know, these progressive groups were very very much in
- 13:52alignment and their thinking with the Nazis. I mean eugenicism,
- 13:56I mean getting rid of the deplorables. As Hillary Clinton
- 14:03would have said, right, who was her hero? Margaret Sanger.
- 14:11Earlier I said Mary Baker Eddie. I meant to say
- 14:13Margaret Sanger. Now Eddie was not a great person either,
- 14:16but two of very different people. Anyway, Margaret Sanger, who
- 14:20was a huge proponent of killing Blacks and Jews and
- 14:25Mexicans and all Catholics. You know, this is who these
- 14:29people were. This is your roots of the Democrat Party.
- 14:33I mean, when the modern Democrat Party, at least the
- 14:37post Civil War Democrat Party, we could put it that way.
- 14:40And I mean when I say, you know, Donald Trump
- 14:44may not be a choir boy, but the Democrats are
- 14:47just pure evil, I mean they just are seriously, purely evil.
- 14:52You know, they actually are to their roots. Saul Lensky,
- 14:56who wrote Rules for Radicals, dedicated it to Satan, the
- 15:00first radical radical, as he said, and that was Hillary
- 15:03Clinton's professor, and that was there's the playbook the Democrats
- 15:07are still using. Democrats are purely evil. There's no getting
- 15:13around it. If you believe in abortion killing innocent children,
- 15:16you're evil. You know. It's not a It's not a
- 15:21compromise there. I mean, Pope Benedict sixteenth said it perfectly.
- 15:27I don't have the quote in front of me, but
- 15:28I'm sure you can pull it up. He said, abortion
- 15:31is especially evil, much more so than the death penalty
- 15:35or anything you know, other in Catholic teaching. It's especially
- 15:40evil and has to we have a duty as Catholics
- 15:43to oppose it. Well. The Democrat platform endorses abortion. Therefore,
- 15:48no Catholic in good in good faith can be a Democrat.
- 15:51If you're listening to this and you're a Catholic who
- 15:54votes for Democrats, you better go talk to your priest,
- 15:56because you're actually in a state of mortal sin. And
- 16:00if you don't want to go to hell, you need
- 16:01to get that straightened out. And if you've got a
- 16:04liberal priest, you've got a problem because there are a
- 16:08lot of really liberal, messed up priests, and there you
- 16:12have led a lot of people astray. I would strongly
- 16:16suggest finding a better perish anyway, the person says. The
- 16:22person says, Christ rose with a material body and ascended
- 16:26into heaven, what happens to his body in heaven? And
- 16:29the priest's ansor Christ rose with a material body, but
- 16:33not in a material body limited by the all conditions
- 16:36of matter as we know them. He rose with the same,
- 16:44yet with a change body, and the change in no
- 16:47way altering its identity. Saint Paul predicts a somewhat similar
- 16:52and mysterious change in our own bodies after our own resurrection.
- 16:56So also in the resurrection it has sown in corruption
- 17:00and incorruption, it is sown in a natural body, it
- 17:03shall rise in a spiritual body one Corinthians, fifteen forty
- 17:07two forty four. The body therefore shall rise with the
- 17:11powers of which we have no experience yet, and strangely
- 17:15participating in the quality's proper spiritual beings. It is a
- 17:20mystery for our present ideals, or drawn from our present conditions,
- 17:24And we should not be surprised that we lack the
- 17:27capacity to understand the conditions of a state which we,
- 17:30as of yet have no experience at all. So the
- 17:38questioner continues, let us turn from your dogma of Christ
- 17:42to those dogmas concerning your goddess Mary. And they answer,
- 17:47and this is why I think It's probably more a
- 17:51Colonel Booth follower than a college professor, because hopefully even
- 17:58an Anglican college professor would understand that Catholicism and no
- 18:03way views of Blessed Virgin Mary as a goddess. But
- 18:07many Protestants do so that's why I kind of went
- 18:09in that direction. But they answer, it would be a
- 18:13mortal sin for any Catholic to regard Mary as a goddess.
- 18:17If Catholics express such a belief to a priest and confession,
- 18:19he would be a refused absolution unless he promised to
- 18:23renounce such an absurd idea. If you wish to attack
- 18:27Catholic doctrine, at least find out what Catholics do believe
- 18:31before you begin. Person says, if you call her queen
- 18:35of Heaven, do you not do her an injustice in
- 18:38refusing to her the title of goddess? And they answer,
- 18:41it would be the greatest possible injustice to regard her
- 18:44as a goddess. It is just to honor is just
- 18:48to honor her, even has God honored her, which we
- 18:52Catholics do. Jesus is the king of king and Lord
- 18:55of lords, and his mother certainly possesses queenly dignity, holding
- 18:59the highest and have an ext her divine son, but
- 19:03that does not and cannot change her finite and created nature,
- 19:06human nature. To regard her as a goddess would be absurd.
- 19:10And the person says, yet you insist that she is
- 19:12Mother of God, and yeah, again I am thinking yeah,
- 19:16because see most Anglicans believe that Mary's Mother of God
- 19:21as well. They. I mean, that's not really a it's
- 19:25not really an argument we have with the Anglican Church.
- 19:27It's not really an argument we have with the Lutheran Church.
- 19:30Martin Luther, for all his evil and antichrist ways, actually
- 19:36supported venerating the blessed Virgin Mary as Mother of God.
- 19:41A Calvinist probably would not. I'd have to look, you'd
- 19:47see if John Calvin ever said anything otherwise. He may have,
- 19:51but certainly by the nineteen twenties, the progressive liberal Protestant
- 19:57movement in the Presbyterian Church especially and Methodists would have
- 20:05had been of this assumption or someone who was just
- 20:09you know, a member of a quasi religious organization like
- 20:13the Salvation Army. They say, Jesus Christ is true God
- 20:18and true man, as he was born of Mary. She
- 20:21is truly the mother of God. The second person of
- 20:23the bless Trinity was born of her according to the
- 20:26humanity he derived from her. She is not a goddess,
- 20:29for God did not take his divine being from her.
- 20:33But she is the mother of God, since the second
- 20:35person of the bless the Trinity was truly born of
- 20:38her in his human nature. Person asked how could Mary
- 20:43be the mother of the one who created her? And
- 20:44they answer, Mary owed her being, of course to God,
- 20:48but this is under the aspect of his eternal nature
- 20:51subsequent to her creation. That human nature was born of her,
- 20:55which the son of God assumed to himself. She was
- 20:57therefore the mother of Christ. But Christ was one divine person,
- 21:01existing in two natures, one eternal and divine, the other
- 21:04temporal and human. Mary necessarily gave birth to a being
- 21:08with one personality, and that divine, and she is rightly
- 21:12called the mother of God, he continues, does not the
- 21:18Catholic Church insist also upon the biological and biologically impossible
- 21:23dogma of the immaculate conception of Mary herself. And yeah,
- 21:27this is when you know the person's not very well
- 21:29educated in religion. They answer, the dogma of the immaculate
- 21:33conception has nothing to do with biology. It does not
- 21:35mean that she was conceived miraculously in the physical sense.
- 21:39She was normally conceived and born of her parents. I
- 21:42guess what, Joachim never have really known how to pronounce
- 21:45this name, and that's a little easier. But in her conception,
- 21:49her soul was preserved immaculate in the sense that she
- 21:52inherited no stain of original sin, which was derived from
- 21:55our first parents. Well, see, I think I don't think
- 22:00you're going to find well these days, who knows, who
- 22:06knows what people think and teach. But yeah, most what
- 22:11you might call lower church Protestants have no understanding of
- 22:14what the immaculate conception is, and that's a charge they make.
- 22:19Those that have had a little more education in the
- 22:23development of doctrine over the last two thousand years tend
- 22:27to at least know what Catholics believe, even if they
- 22:30don't accept it. So yeah, I'm thinking, yeah, anyway, doesn't
- 22:36really matter, doesn't Let's get into preparation for Holy Communion.
- 22:43We must make a suitable preparation of body and soul
- 22:45before receiving Holy Communion. We must endeavor before approaching Holy communion,
- 22:50to render ourselves as much like our Lord as possible,
- 22:54For unless we resemble him spiritually, no union between Him
- 22:58and us will be Practically. Liquids cannot mingle one with
- 23:02another without they are of the same nature. Thus wine
- 23:07and water can be mixed, but not water and oil.
- 23:11Father Spiago's old language. Remember this is written in the
- 23:14eighteen nineties. If I write anything too dense, I'll try
- 23:17to explain it. But he's just saying that, like mixes
- 23:21would like. The better our preparation for Holy Communion, the
- 23:24more plentiful the graces we receive from it. Those who
- 23:28make a bad preparation for communion or none at all,
- 23:31draw down upon themselves a divine anger. Such persons lose
- 23:34all reverence for holy sacrament of the altar. In fact,
- 23:38their faith and the presence of Our Lord under the
- 23:40eucharistic veil dies out altogether. He who approaches Holy Communion
- 23:45merely from force of habit cannot expect to receive anything
- 23:48from God. Very important. You know, so many times we
- 23:52go to Mass and whether we're distracted, whether we haven't
- 23:57made a full examination of conscience. You know, maybe we
- 24:02didn't go to confession when we should we shouldn't go
- 24:05up for communion in that case, shouldn't go up for
- 24:07the euchrous if you don't believe in the real presence
- 24:09of Jesus, or if you're in a state of mortal sin,
- 24:13or if you haven't fasted an hour before. You know,
- 24:17that's another consideration. If you can, I mean, I do
- 24:20believe the Church give some leeway to people who are
- 24:23a weakened condition, but at least for a suitable period
- 24:26of time. But a lot of times people just kind
- 24:30of go up out of habit or because everybody else
- 24:33on their aisles going and they don't want to sit
- 24:35there and look like they're guilty of something. You know,
- 24:38social pressure really not a good idea. In fact, that's
- 24:41a mortal sin. So really, before we go up to
- 24:45receive the Euchrous, we need to make sure that we
- 24:49check all those boxes. Have you been to confession if
- 24:51you need to, if you're aware of any mortal sin
- 24:54you have to, if you have a habitual venial sins,
- 24:57you really should do you truly believe that it is
- 25:02the body and blood of Christ, and you know, are
- 25:05you in the proper state? I mean, did you fast
- 25:10before going to Mass? Or there's another Sometimes just run
- 25:16into this, especially in a college town. Somebody may have
- 25:22been out drinking all night and they're still a bit
- 25:24drunk when they get to Mass. They may not have
- 25:28eaten a thing, and they may even be passing out.
- 25:33You know, that's certainly not exclusive to Catholics. It's pretty
- 25:37much any morning gathering in any college town. But Catholics
- 25:43have a you know, the moral obligation to go to
- 25:45church or they commit a moral sin. So a lot
- 25:48of times Catholics will force themselves to go to Mass
- 25:51when they may not really be in the right shape
- 25:54for it. And you know, it's not just morning Mass.
- 25:58Like let's say you're going to Christmas midnight Mass and
- 26:03you had a few celebratory drinks with your friends and family.
- 26:09You know, you didn't make sure you sober up before
- 26:11you go up for a communion. And if it's I mean,
- 26:16someone might point out that drunkenness is a serious sin,
- 26:21could even be a moratal sin. It can be and
- 26:24is if it's intentional and dangerous, if you drove drunk
- 26:29to get there, if someone else gave you a lyft
- 26:32and you had one too many and really didn't mean
- 26:35to then that more falls into the category of venial.
- 26:39But still you really shouldn't go up for the Eucharist
- 26:42unless you're sober. Speaking of Anglicans, I knew one who
- 26:49thought it was the greatest thing in the world to
- 26:51drop acid before going or take mushrooms before going to church.
- 26:56Just thought it gave her all kinds of spiritual insights. Yeah,
- 27:00don't do that. Don't do that. Well, at least she
- 27:03didn't have the real presence of God and the Eucharist.
- 27:07But still, really really bad idea. In fact, it's a
- 27:12really easy way to become demonically possessed. Actually, so a
- 27:19really really bad idea in that instance. But I digress.
- 27:24The manner in which we should prepare our soul is this.
- 27:26We much cleanse our souls from mortal sin by confession,
- 27:29perform good works, and adorn ourselves with the virtues. When
- 27:34a monarch visits a town, it is previously cleanse and decoratus.
- 27:38We should do the same. When the king of kings
- 27:40comes to us. We should purify our conscience by confession
- 27:44and adorn our souls by good works. Paul says, let
- 27:47a man prove himself, and so let him eat of
- 27:50the bread and drink of that chalice one Corinthians eleven,
- 27:53twenty eight. Boy I had a debate with a Protestant
- 27:59two or three days ago. Oh, and man, I wish
- 28:02i'd had that verse at hand. I gave some really
- 28:06good convincing arguments as far as that faith alone is
- 28:11not sufficient, that you also have to do good works,
- 28:14and one of the most important of those is to
- 28:17receive the Eucharist, get baptized, you know, and receive the
- 28:20euchroust be confirmed the sacraments. In other words, and yeah,
- 28:26let him prove himself, and so let him eat of
- 28:29that bread and drink of the chalice. He can he
- 28:32maintain is purely symbolic. Well, why would you have to
- 28:35prove yourself for something purely symbolic? How could you become
- 28:39guilty of the body and blood of Christ if you
- 28:41approach the sacrament unworthily if it's purely symbolic. Makes no sense.
- 28:47But you know, people say Tereseliso said, it's my duty
- 28:53to tell people the truth. It's up to the Holy
- 28:56Spirit to convince them. And that's really all you can do.
- 28:59And I've had a few kind of troubling revelations since then.
- 29:07I think the Holy Spirit's given me a little insight.
- 29:10And when you encounter someone who is really curious about
- 29:19the Catholic Church and wants to know what you believe
- 29:21and why, you have absolute duty to explain it to him.
- 29:25When you have someone who's spreading lives about the Catholic Church,
- 29:28you have the absolute duty to correct them. There's a
- 29:31lot in between. There's a lot of ignorance, and maybe
- 29:34you can dispel it. But when someone keeps coming back
- 29:38at you with anger and mockery and they're not listening
- 29:43to anything, that's you know, when the Bible says don't
- 29:47cast your pearls before the swine because they'll tread them
- 29:50in the mud, you're actually telling these people, this person
- 29:53who claims to be a Christian, about the holiest matters
- 29:56on earth. You discuss the u churse, you discuss the
- 29:59sacrament Jesus has, you know, the life and teachings of Jesus.
- 30:03These are the holiest things we have. And when they
- 30:07come back at you like that, you know, there's several
- 30:11verses in the Bible that just pop into my head
- 30:14the night after debating with this person, just giving up
- 30:18because I'm you know, and I guess it's Proverbs says,
- 30:23I do not argue with a fool, you know, he'll
- 30:26just laugh and wag his head. I think it's Proverbs.
- 30:29Could be Sirac. I'm not sure, but I think it's Proverbs.
- 30:34Another one says that a person like that is like
- 30:36a mule a donkey. I mean, Jesus says, don't call
- 30:39anyboy a fool. Right. Well, okay, we're not supposed to
- 30:43insult the dignity that God gives to a man creating
- 30:47his own image by dismissing him out of hand. But
- 30:51when a person rejects the teachings of Christ in his church,
- 30:59you know that's probably who the Bible would identify as foolish. Okay,
- 31:05if you think about it this way, when we accept,
- 31:09we believe in we believe in Jesus, we believe in God,
- 31:13we accept the teachers of the church. We're baptized at
- 31:17that point, freed from sin, receive the Holy Spirit. Many
- 31:19Protestants don't even get baptized, they don't believe in it.
- 31:22I think it's symbolic. Some do, many don't. Then we
- 31:27are catechist. We come to fully understand the Catholic Church,
- 31:32so we can say yes I reject Satan as always works,
- 31:35and I accept, you know, the teachers of the Catholic Church,
- 31:38and we're confirmed and we receive the fullness of the
- 31:40Holy Spirit. After that, and usually in between we go
- 31:46to our first confession, so you know that's good. We
- 31:49start receiving the sacraments regularly, and with each confession, with
- 31:54each communion, with each annoying of the sick, any of
- 32:01the sacrament of marriage in each case, or of course
- 32:06you know, ordination, the priesthood and all that. In each case,
- 32:11God is coming to live more within us. Essentially, we're
- 32:16becoming two things. We're becoming more human because we're becoming
- 32:20more like the man God originally created in his own image.
- 32:26And we're becoming more christ Like, sharing in the divinity
- 32:29of Christ by eating His body and blood, by experience
- 32:34in the sacraments. When someone rejects the teachings of the Church,
- 32:38when someone rejects the sacraments, hopefully they at least get baptized.
- 32:43But when somebody rejects even the validity of marriage, I
- 32:47mean then they believe in divorce. When somebody rejects out
- 32:50of hand the Eucharus, when someone says the Catholic Church
- 32:53is evil and we worship the devil when we're all
- 32:56going to hell. And you know, you know how if
- 32:58you've ever argued with an a Catholic, you know exactly
- 33:01what I'm saying that. I mean, they'll say horrible things
- 33:03about the Mother of God. Why would you insult Jesus's mother?
- 33:07And then they will laugh about it. Okay, that's not
- 33:12becoming more human. That's not becoming more holy or more
- 33:17christ Like, or more sharing in his divine nature. That's
- 33:22actually becoming more animalistic. And so I think in the
- 33:27Bible and several points where it compares people like that
- 33:29to donkeys or jackasses, to swine, calls them fools. Jesus
- 33:36called the Pharisees whitewashed tombs, empty tombs. I mean, we
- 33:41can go down that. What they're saying, what the Bible
- 33:44was saying, what God's telling us to his word, is
- 33:47that those people are becoming less human, less holy, and
- 33:53more like animals. And when we look at I'll take
- 33:57the Spanish Revolution for instance, where a small group of communists,
- 34:01essentially progressives as they might want to call themselves, ended
- 34:05up killing twelve to sixteen million Catholics, slaughtering nuns, monks
- 34:10and priests wholesale and doing the most abominable things you
- 34:14can imagine. What can motivate that. I mean, there's no empathy,
- 34:20that's a human quality. There's no enlightenment, which comes from
- 34:24the Holy Spirit. There's no love, which is of God
- 34:29what you then have. And we've seen this like the
- 34:32Palestinian attack on Israel two years ago, horrible, burning babies alive,
- 34:39cutting people's heads off, the worst things you can imagine.
- 34:44And in the religious wars of Germany, the French Revolution,
- 34:49the Bolshevik Revolution, there's another twenty or so million Catholics
- 34:53slaughtered and Orthodox in that case. The malice they go
- 34:59to extreme links to be particularly cruel, especially the way
- 35:04that they kill priests and nuns and monks. I mean,
- 35:08things you don't I am not even going to repeat
- 35:12were commonplace. Communists takeover of Vietnam just recently. I mean,
- 35:18they killed so many people, they ran out bullets, they'd
- 35:21have one bullet left, forced the person to dig their
- 35:24own grave, then hit him in the head with a
- 35:25shovel and bury him. I mean, the worst acts you
- 35:30can think of. And in some cases those people were
- 35:39not atheists. In some cases they were Protestants. In some
- 35:43cases they were Protestant Freemasons, especially in France and Spain.
- 35:53I'm not entirely sure that we are doing what we
- 36:01should when we spend our time debating, arguing, with trying
- 36:05to convince a person like that, I think we just
- 36:09need to state the truth, say a prayer form and
- 36:12move on. Because their demon possessed, that's right. I think
- 36:18a lot of Protestants who hate the Catholic Church have
- 36:22some level of demon possession, and any way you look
- 36:25at it, they have lost their ability to reason. I mean,
- 36:30this guy tells me there's no evidence for Saint Peter
- 36:33ever being in Rome. So I just lay before him.
- 36:37You know, half dozen a dozen historical references from the
- 36:42time by both pagan Romans and early Christians. He didn't
- 36:48believe it. No, he tells him Saint Peter was never run. Well,
- 36:52we know Saint Peter was in Rome. He was crucified
- 36:54upside down by the Emperor Nero. He died preaching to
- 36:58the crowds converted me any of them. We know where
- 37:01his bones were buried. We know the chapel that was
- 37:04built over that his bones, his body, and we know
- 37:09that's now the altar of Saint Peter's basilica. When you say, someone,
- 37:17this is historic evidence, and I said, it's not in
- 37:20the Bible, and you're like, well, the Bible's not a
- 37:23newspaper and the Bible's not a history book. I have
- 37:25more evidence than Saint Peter was in Rome than I
- 37:28do that George Washington was the first president of the
- 37:29United States. And they just laugh at you. That's not
- 37:39a reasonable person. That's not a person moving toward humanity
- 37:43and divinity, holiness, spiritual growth, perfection, if you want to
- 37:48look at it that way. That's a person moving more
- 37:51toward being a brute animal and very likely demonically possessed.
- 37:59And we don't need to associate with people who are
- 38:01demonically possessed. There are specific priests in the Catholic Church
- 38:06who do exorcisms. They warn us very strongly to be
- 38:11very aware when you see that in a person, and
- 38:15it doesn't you know, it doesn't have to be an
- 38:16anti Catholic bigot. You know, it could be a dangerous
- 38:21killer or something, you know, serial killer, whatever, street thug
- 38:25or sociopath. They give you signs you can look for,
- 38:30and gosh, Father Rippinger, I mean so many things and tips.
- 38:37They tell us to be very aware of those people,
- 38:39that they're very dangerous and that they really hate the
- 38:43Holy Spirit within us, and they can become very violent.
- 38:47And I think I'm gonna be stepping back some from
- 38:52the debating with the anti Catholics. I'm just going to say,
- 38:58you know what, this is what the Bible says, is
- 39:00what the Church teaches. Take or leave it, and I'm
- 39:02out of here. There is no need to you know,
- 39:10when you when you join in conversation with a person.
- 39:16I think it was Rex Stout's character Nero Wolf. He said,
- 39:19whenever we engage with our fellow humans, we encounter some
- 39:23level of risk. And you know he was talking as
- 39:27there was a mystery novel. He's talking. You don't know
- 39:28if the person is lying to you, You don't know if
- 39:30they're dangerous. Some people are very spiritually dangerous, very very
- 39:36What's an example everybody would think of Charles Manson. If
- 39:41you ever meet somebody like that, do everything you can
- 39:43not to sit down and have a conversation with them,
- 39:45because that demon is going to be trying to trick you,
- 39:51hurt you everything possible, and you don't not need ever
- 39:59to put your yourself in that position. If you're a
- 40:03cop or something you have to lock somebody up like that.
- 40:06You know, I'm sorry, but that's you know, I'm sure
- 40:09you have dealt with that before. There are a lot
- 40:12of people like that. Actually, I've encountered them, especially on
- 40:18the streets, you know. I've been a musician, I've been
- 40:21out at strange times the night, and I've encountered some
- 40:25pretty odd people. Anyway, if you're a social worker, you
- 40:32probably need to find another job. I mean, honestly, but
- 40:36if you can call a call a call an exorcist.
- 40:40You should definitely use holy water, wear a brown scalp
- 40:43or miraculous metal. You should use blessed oil and blessed salt,
- 40:50whatever you can do, and say the Rose, pray the
- 40:53Rosary daily and be very very careful. You know, I've
- 41:00said many times in the in the mountains of North Carolina,
- 41:04we probably have the largest concentration of people who practice
- 41:07wicca and witchcraft in the eastern United States. You know,
- 41:11I don't know why they all moved here, but they did,
- 41:16especially around Black Mountain, around Billy Graham's hometown. Probably not
- 41:19a coincidence. Ninety percent of them, I just look them
- 41:25as people who practice a different religion. You know, say
- 41:29hi to them, be polite, you know, no problem. They
- 41:32don't threaten me. I don't bother them. Probably scary, dangerous
- 41:41people with eyes like Charles Manson. And you need to
- 41:45be very very aware. And if you have kids, you
- 41:50need to be hyper aware of their friends, of their influences,
- 41:57their teachers. I have some really bad teachers. You need
- 42:02to be hyper aware of who comes into that child's life,
- 42:07and I mean hyper aware, and whether they like it
- 42:12or not. You know, you said, look, you can't associate
- 42:15with that person. You don't go anywhere near that person.
- 42:18And if need be, you know, you homeschool those kids.
- 42:21I mean, I mist some messed up people in Catholic schools.
- 42:25I mean you have that duty and responsibility as a
- 42:29parent to protect your kids, and you need to be
- 42:32absolutely hyper aware. Be sure to make the sign of
- 42:35the Cross in front of the person, see how they react,
- 42:39Say a silent prayer across yourself, have if you got it, food,
- 42:43say the blessing across yourself. Do it in a way
- 42:46you make sure they see it and watch their reaction.
- 42:49Don't stare at them, but be very aware of their reaction.
- 42:55That's been a real shocker to me. Several times in
- 43:01a play conversation with people I thought were friends in restaurants,
- 43:07food comes to the table, I say signent, prayer and
- 43:10cross myself, and they freak out and start screaming at me.
- 43:13Someone who had been a friend for like thirty years
- 43:16freaks out and starts screaming at me and like frothing
- 43:19at the mouth. Yeah, you know that's that's not of God.
- 43:27I'll just put it that way. I mean, the Bible
- 43:29says that the Christians greet each other with a side
- 43:31of the cross, says in an axe. You know what
- 43:34could they possibly have a problem with that? Except there's
- 43:37a level there is some level of demonic possession, even
- 43:41among people who go to church on every every Sunday
- 43:44and act like and read the Bible and think they're
- 43:47the holways people on the face of the earth. If
- 43:49they hate the church that Jesus founded, they hate the
- 43:54teachings of Christ, and they hate Christ. It's even if
- 43:58they don't know it anyway. All right, let's see if
- 44:02I can have this up. So he says, we must
- 44:04examine our conscience before approaching holy communion and not merely
- 44:09regard to the greater transgressions, but also in minor offenses.
- 44:13The apostles lay their garments upon the ass before they
- 44:15made Our Lord sit upon thereon. So we should deck
- 44:18ourselves with virtue when we prepare to receive him in communion,
- 44:24like Palm's Sunday when Jesus wrote in a town on
- 44:26a donkey. Kind of odd way of saying it, but
- 44:29that's what he meant. Some people think more of communicating
- 44:33upon certain festivals than purifying their hearts by confession, although
- 44:38it is far greater importance. Wherefore, it is not he
- 44:41who communicates often, or he who communicates seldom, who should
- 44:45be esteemed, but he who communicates with a clean heart.
- 44:49To receive holy communion when one is conscious of having
- 44:51committed a mortal sin is to incur the guilt of sacrilege.
- 44:56He who receives holy communion in a state of mortal
- 44:58sin profanes the holy sacri He is guilty of the
- 45:01body and blood of the Lord First Corinthians eleven twenty seven.
- 45:04That is, his sin is the same as if he
- 45:06had put our Lord to death. The unworthy communicant acts
- 45:10like the Philistines who took possession of the ark and
- 45:13placed it close to the image of their God. Dagging,
- 45:17I guess before he introduces Christ where satan is. Holy
- 45:21communion is like the light, which is salutary to good eyes,
- 45:25but hurtful to those who are diseased. So the Lord's
- 45:28body is a medicine, given spiritual health to a pure heart,
- 45:32but spiritual death to an unclean and evil heart. Holy
- 45:35communion is like a pillar of the cloud, enlightening the Israelites,
- 45:41but enveloping the Egyptians in darkness. Ex It is fourteen twenty. Wherefore,
- 45:47if any man called a mind a mortal sin before
- 45:49he communicates, let him go to confession at once, if
- 45:52by any means he can do so. If it be impossible,
- 45:56may he communicate, But he must first confess the sin
- 46:00in question the next time he goes to confession. I
- 46:06think the church teaching has changed on that a little bit.
- 46:08I think it now says, don't do that. If you
- 46:11know of your immortal sin, do not receive the Eucharis
- 46:13under any possible reason until you've been to confession. But
- 46:21Father Sprago is saying, if you had the contention to
- 46:24confess the sin in question the next time you could
- 46:27get to confession, it would be okay. But I don't
- 46:30think that's safe. Actually, they says, for as it was
- 46:35not wilfully admitted, it was remitted with the rest by
- 46:38sarah dotal sacardotal absolution. No, if you're in mortal sin,
- 46:42you need to go to confession. If you're in venial sin,
- 46:46then that would apply. The consequence of a sacrilegious communion
- 46:49are very terrible. It produces spiritual blindness, obduracy, or stubbornness
- 46:55of heart, and brings upon the center chastisement, both temporal
- 46:58and eternal. Say enters into the unworthy communicate, as he
- 47:02did into Judas after his sacrilegious communion John thirteen twenty seven.
- 47:07When Judas took the bread from Jesus, that's when Satan
- 47:11entered him. And that's because he took the body and
- 47:15blood of Christ unworthily, he did not believe Jesus was
- 47:18the Christ, or any way you look at hand, tended
- 47:23to betray him. If the possession of the art brought
- 47:27such grievous afflictions upon the Philistines, if the prophi nation
- 47:31of the Sacred Vessels by Baltazar was so bitterly expiated
- 47:35in Daniel VIV. What must the punishment of those who
- 47:39lay violent hands be upon the body of the Lord.
- 47:42The apostle tells us that infirmities and death are no
- 47:46unusual chastisements of unworthy communication. That's First Corinthians eleven thirty.
- 47:52He says that many of you are sick and have
- 47:54died because you've received the euchars unworthily. Remember the awful
- 47:59fate of Judas, terror, despair, hatred of God, the torments,
- 48:03the loss suffer, and hell begin on earth For unworthy communicants.
- 48:08He who comes to the marriage feast the Holy Communion
- 48:11without the wedding garment, sanctifying grace, or confirmation shall be
- 48:17cast into exterior darkness. Matthew twenty two. Saint Paul warns
- 48:22the Christians of communicating unworthyly when he says he that
- 48:25edith and drinketh unworthily, edith and drinketh judgment to himself,
- 48:30not discerning the body of the Lord. All that is
- 48:32absolutely required for worthy reception of Holy Communion is to
- 48:36be in a state of grace. But it is greatly
- 48:38to be desired that all unruly attachment to earthly things
- 48:43should be completely given up before preach, approaching the sacrament
- 48:47of the altar, save grace, meaning you're not aware that
- 48:50you've committed any mortal sin. You've been baptized, you've been confirmed.
- 48:56If you are not in a state of grace, as
- 48:58Saint John chrystostom, why do you not go to communion,
- 49:02which is instituted with the object of enabling you to
- 49:05continue in that state? Let me see if I get
- 49:07that right. If you are in a state of grace,
- 49:10says Saint John Gristassen, I read it backwards, why do
- 49:13you not continue to go to communion which was instituted
- 49:16with the object of enabling you to continue in that
- 49:18state of grace. The more we are detached from earthly things,
- 49:22the greater will be our charity, And the greater our charity,
- 49:24the more abundant will be the graces we receive in communion. Thus,
- 49:28the avaricious or greedy, the ambitious, the intemperate, all who
- 49:32indulge in their evil tendencies will derive a little benefit
- 49:36from holy communion. A pure heart is the only fit
- 49:39dwelling for the God of purity. Prayer, acts of prayer,
- 49:44acts of self denial, and works of mercy are the
- 49:47good works which ought to we ought to practice before
- 49:49going to communion. At least a half hour ought to
- 49:53be spent in prayer before Holy Communion. That okay, So
- 49:58that's a lot more profitable possible in the traditional Latin mess.
- 50:05Now we have our Catholic calisthenics are getting up and down,
- 50:09kneeling and rising and singing along and repeating things, and
- 50:13it can be a little hard to find time for
- 50:18silent prayer or adoration in the mess. And I'm not
- 50:24really big on that. I'm not really happy about that,
- 50:28but you know, that's what the Church teaches these days,
- 50:30so I'll obey the church. But if you can get
- 50:35to Mass early, you could certainly spend a half hour
- 50:38in prayer and then participate in the mass. Let's see
- 50:46where I kind of lost my place there for a second. Oh,
- 50:49it is advisable to hear Mass first. Obviously, we should
- 50:53sit through the Mass and hear the homily and say
- 50:56the prayers before going up. And in fact, the Church
- 50:59says you have to at least be there for the
- 51:01Our Father on the previous day. We should be especially abstemious.
- 51:07That is such a hard word for me to say.
- 51:08Abstemious at the table, denying ourselves worldly pleasures and amusements,
- 51:14avoiding idle conversation, etc. It is well also to perform
- 51:19some works of mercy. If thou give us earthly food
- 51:22to Christ and the person of his poor Saint Augustine,
- 51:24says Saint Augustine, he will in return give these celestial food.
- 51:28Those who receive holy communion ought to possess these virtues,
- 51:31in particular faith, hope, charity, humility, and meekness. It is
- 51:36unusual before communion to make acts. No, it is usual.
- 51:41That makes more sense. It is usual before communion to
- 51:45make acts of the three theological virtues, and also of contrition.
- 51:48The Church you's self seeks to awaken these sentiments of
- 51:51the heart of the communicant. For after the confettio or
- 51:54the where I confess that I have seen on you
- 51:57know it has been said by the center implores the
- 52:01pardon of God, and when elevating the sacred host, he
- 52:04repeats the words of Saint John the Baptists behold the
- 52:07lamb of God, et cetera. And as well as as
- 52:10a centurion, Lord, I'm not worthy, et cetera. Children generally
- 52:13are made to renew their baptismal vows before making their
- 52:16first communion. Before communicating, we ought to make an active faith,
- 52:20for our Lord always required a lively faith in those
- 52:24on whom he bestowed graces, and for whose sake he
- 52:26worked miracles. Thus we read that he said to the
- 52:29blind man, do you believe that I can do this
- 52:31unto you? And until they answer in the affirmative, he
- 52:34did not heal them. We ought also to make an
- 52:36active hope before communicating. When our Lord was on earth,
- 52:39he never sent away anyone empty who came to him
- 52:42in trustful confidence. The woman who had been afflicted for
- 52:45twelve years was made whole immediately upon touching the hem
- 52:48of his garment in faith Matthew nine to twenty. We
- 52:53ought to make an act of charity for communicating. For
- 52:55the greater our love to God, the greater his generosity
- 52:58toward us, be received with love, who out of love
- 53:02gives himself to us. Love him, says Saint Augustine, who
- 53:06for love of thee comes to unite the mortality of
- 53:11his immortality, to unite thy mortality to his immortality. We
- 53:18ought to also be We ought to also humbers us
- 53:21for God before communicating considering His majesty our misery, and
- 53:25deploring our sinfulness. For God resisted the proud, but to
- 53:28the humble heaguist grace verse Peter five to five. Maintness
- 53:32is also necessary and communicant, for without it we cannot
- 53:34be pleasing to Lamb of God. Our bodies must be
- 53:38prepared for holy communion by fasting from midnight. Okay, yeah,
- 53:43you used to actually have to fast. You couldn't have breakfast.
- 53:47Church is eased up on that. Now they say an hour.
- 53:50I think in some cases of sickness it can be
- 53:52more like thirty minutes. You need talk with the priest
- 53:55if you know, if you have an issue with that.
- 53:57But yeah, it used to be that you ate no
- 54:00old food after midnight on Saturday until you receive the
- 54:03euchars on Sunday morning. Probably still a very good practice,
- 54:11but not everybody can do that. You know, back then
- 54:14people didn't really understand about diabetes and hypoglycemian blood sugar
- 54:19issues or the medications that we now have to take sometimes.
- 54:23So the Church is eased up on things, and you know,
- 54:26the Church is always making things easier for us when
- 54:29we can. We ought to make things a little harder ourselves,
- 54:31but certainly not a commandment for all people. In fact,
- 54:37at this point he said only those are in danger
- 54:40of death may take Holy Communion after receiving or taking food.
- 54:45So I mean it was really serious back in eighteen ninety.
- 54:50But he did point out necessity knows no law. Those
- 54:53who are dangerously ill may receive Holy Communion, So yeah,
- 55:01I think at that point, yeah, your priest or your
- 55:06bishop could give you permission to that. No one. An
- 55:09interesting thing says your dress should be clean and suited
- 55:12to your station when we go to community. This you
- 55:14say we should put on better things than those in
- 55:17daily wear, but not dress showily. I have so many
- 55:22Catholics say you should wear a suit to church. I
- 55:26wore a suit when I worked in politics. I hated
- 55:29it every minute. I don't like wearing a suit. A
- 55:32suit is an English tradition, it's an Anglican tradition. Why
- 55:35should I wear a suit to church? I dress neatly.
- 55:39I dress in better clothes than I wear on a
- 55:42daily basis. I wear a very nice shirt, pants, dress, shoes,
- 55:46But I'm not putting on a suit, and I don't
- 55:49have to. But then you know I would also apply
- 55:54to a lot of women who maybe dress a little
- 55:57more showily than they should a little more jewelry and
- 56:00makeup a little bit low cut here and there, high
- 56:03cut elt swear. He says, to attach important to dress
- 56:08when approaching the holy table would lead us to overlook
- 56:11what is essential and mar our devotion. How many times
- 56:14have people should up late for masks because they spent
- 56:17so much time with their hair and makeup. You know,
- 56:20this is it's not supposed to do that. You're not
- 56:22supposed to do that at all. He says. Shabby clothes
- 56:26are no shame to the wearer. Christ was poor and
- 56:29he loved sup poor. He looks to the interior and
- 56:32not to the exterior of a man very important. I've
- 56:36been in so many churches where you know, you got poor,
- 56:40hard working folks coming in and they're dressed in what
- 56:44they've got, and then you've got people millionaires showing it
- 56:47in everything they wear and their jewelry and their hair
- 56:52and everything. And it's so not how things are supposed
- 56:57to be, and unfortunately a lot of people think it is.
- 57:02And a lot of people look down on somebody who
- 57:04shows up in boots and jeans. But you never knowing
- 57:06that the boots and gens is the best that person's got,
- 57:10you know, and they shouldn't be treated badly because of that.
- 57:13In some way, shouldn't be treated better because of their
- 57:16you know, tailored suit or fine dress or pearls or
- 57:21you know, anyway. Our demeanors should be reverent. When we
- 57:24go to the communion. We should avoid singularity and everything
- 57:28prejudicial to devotion. In other words, your dress shouldn't get
- 57:31in the way of what you're there for. When the
- 57:33priest repeats the words dominating on some deepness, the intending
- 57:37communicant should strike his breast. Rising from that's the Lord
- 57:42I'm not worthy. Rising from his knees, goes slowly up
- 57:45to the altar rail, which I wish we still had
- 57:47in every church. We need altar rails back. Regardless what
- 57:50the Bishop of Charlotte says without looking about him, Yeah,
- 57:54don't look around. Don't be looking at what other people
- 57:56are doing. It's none of your business. Focus on God.
- 57:59When the priests advances to give him the sacred host,
- 58:01let him raise his head, close his eyes, open his mouth,
- 58:05put his tongue forward as far as his underlip, and
- 58:08let him swallow the host. As soon as possible, and
- 58:12after a few moments pause, returned reverently to his place. Yes,
- 58:17communion on the tongue is preferable. It is more showing
- 58:24honor to what you're receiving. It's showing honor to the
- 58:28priest who's feeding you in his role. Was when Jesus
- 58:32said to Saint Peter, feed my sheep, feed my lambs.
- 58:36It's almost impossible for the host to be dropped if
- 58:41you receive on a tongue. It's very possible for the
- 58:44host to be dropped. If you receive in the hands,
- 58:46you can trip, you can follow, anything can happen. You know,
- 58:49teenagers not paying attention, bumping into one another. That's not good. Also,
- 58:54it's very common for Satanists and you know, other witches
- 59:00and such to go up and act like they're Catholic,
- 59:05receive in the hand, walk out with the host, and
- 59:07desecrate it. Receiving on the tongue prevents nearly every abuse
- 59:14of the Eucharist that I can think of. It would
- 59:20be pretty darn hard to sneak one out in your mouth.
- 59:24So anyway, and at this time, you know, eighteen nineties,
- 59:29the Catholic was receiving the Euchros in the form of
- 59:33the bread and not the wine. At another time he said, well,
- 59:36you know, the faithful should receive the Blood of Christ
- 59:39as well. It's not necessary because Jesus is fully present
- 59:43in both. And of course during COVID we all stop
- 59:47being offered the chalice, and I haven't seen that come
- 59:49back in any church I've been to since. So anyway,
- 59:54while we are now under the Norvis ord, oh if
- 59:59you know the New Mass of you know, Vatican two.
- 1:00:05While we may not entirely appreciate or agree with the
- 1:00:10way things are done these days and the liturgy and everything,
- 1:00:14we can still have that attitude of respect, approach worthily
- 1:00:20and be as reverent as possible. That certainly means turn
- 1:00:24your cell phone off. That certainly means don't be looking
- 1:00:28around at other people. That certainly means fast if you
- 1:00:30can before and you know, go to confession regularly and
- 1:00:36just do the best you can and pray and acknowledge.
- 1:00:40You know, there's several prayers you can do upon receiving
- 1:00:45the Eucharist. I think the animate Christy is most common.
- 1:00:50You know, we can at least say that sometimes we
- 1:00:54do have to leave church immediately after commuting, a media actors,
- 1:01:00even communion. It's not good, but sometimes we can't avoid it. Okay,
- 1:01:05if you've got a sick family member you've got to
- 1:01:06get back to. If you do have to work on
- 1:01:08Sunday and your boss expects you there by noon, If
- 1:01:15for some reason you had to bring your pet with
- 1:01:17you and had to leave them in the car for
- 1:01:19you know, thirty minutes while you went into mass. Sometimes
- 1:01:23that happens, you know, Sometimes you have no you have responsibilities,
- 1:01:28certainly a kid that has to be dealt with, elderly
- 1:01:32family member, so many valid reasons. But if possible, stay
- 1:01:38and say some prayers afterward, leave the church reverently, use
- 1:01:42the Holy water on the way out. I would hope
- 1:01:45you would speak to some people in the parking lot
- 1:01:47or as soon as you have got to a public area,
- 1:01:50make them feel welcome. That's something that's far too often
- 1:01:53overlooked in Catholic churches. But just be as reverent as possible,
- 1:01:58and remember that the church doesn't understand if you sometimes
- 1:02:02have to show up late for a valid reason, sometimes
- 1:02:05have to leave early for a valid reason. Sometimes have
- 1:02:08a medical condition you know that interferes with things, And
- 1:02:13just talk with your priest and let them know. If
- 1:02:17you're a good priest, or you come, talk to you
- 1:02:19about it, if you do it two or three times.
- 1:02:21But no, talk to your priests and let them know
- 1:02:24and see ask advice. Ask you know, how can you know?
- 1:02:28He may say, pray the Rosary on the way home.
- 1:02:30You know, if you have to leave immediately after communicate communing,
- 1:02:33walk out very quietly, make no stir, and start praying
- 1:02:37the rosemary. You know, you know that's probably fairly common advice.
- 1:02:41But yeah, talk it out with your priests. The church
- 1:02:44bends over backwards to accommodate us. That's what Vadigan two
- 1:02:48is all about, for better or for worse. So and
- 1:02:51you know, many parts of it are very good, some
- 1:02:53or not in my opinion, but again I refer to
- 1:02:55the authority of the church. You'll have a great week
- 1:02:58and I will talk to you next time.
