- 0:57Speaker 1: Hey everyone, Welcome to Girls Gone Home, a Hallmark review podcast.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and today we're recapping The Way Home,
- 1:06Speaker 1: episode six, building a mystery. If you want to catch
- 1:10Speaker 1: up with this outside of the podcast, you can follow
- 1:12Speaker 1: us on Instagram. We are both at Meghan and Wendy
- 1:15Speaker 1: and at Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:18Speaker 3: And jump into our Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark, where
- 1:21Speaker 3: I gotta say, there is not enough talk of the
- 1:23Speaker 3: Way Home in that Facebook group.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I need more speculation, I need I want some more theories.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I just think it's really it's really well done. I
- 1:33Speaker 1: think it's really well done. So it's not inviting some
- 1:37Speaker 1: of the usual Hallmark discussion there. Yes, I agree, but
- 1:42Speaker 1: I need more. Yeah, let's talk about it. If you'd
- 1:45Speaker 1: like to talk about the Way Home, join us in
- 1:46Speaker 1: our Facebook group. Do you want to do a little
- 1:48Speaker 1: little housekeeping, some updates, let's do it.
- 1:53Speaker 3: We did not have a review of Made for each
- 1:56Speaker 3: Other this week because I Wendy still dealing with a
- 2:01Speaker 3: broken ankle. Megan decided to come down with I don't
- 2:04Speaker 3: know what you had.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Was it the flu or No? It was officially not
- 2:10Speaker 1: the flu I have and not COVID. It's not COVID.
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's bronchitis plus some other mystery virus combined on top
- 2:19Speaker 1: of it. So I just went down for about five days.
- 2:23Speaker 1: You can still hear it in my voice. I'm getting better,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but I did have to take a break halfway up
- 2:29Speaker 1: the stairs this morning. Breathing is still a bit of
- 2:33Speaker 1: a challenge.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Well, I'm gonna tell you if you're not crawling up
- 2:37Speaker 3: the stairs like a toddler.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Sorry, you're winning.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You're winning, So you were not there yet. I typically listen,
- 2:47Speaker 3: will listen to our podcast episodes after they go live,
- 2:51Speaker 3: and I am refusing to listen to last week's recap
- 2:56Speaker 3: of the Way Home because it's like a blurry mess
- 2:59Speaker 3: to me. I think I did it, Like, did we
- 3:02Speaker 3: record that on Thursday, two days after I broke my ankle?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yes?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I was on drugs, some heavy sedation.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think you should listen because I think it I
- 3:13Speaker 1: edited in a way that it is not clear the
- 3:17Speaker 1: ways in which you were struggling in that. Oh my goodness,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm like mortified. To be honest, Well, two things were happening.
- 3:27Speaker 1: One you were on heavy pain medication, and two it
- 3:31Speaker 1: had been multiple days since you had watched and taken
- 3:35Speaker 1: notes on this show, right, and so I have extensive notes.
- 3:38Speaker 1: But I'm also you know, I watched this yesterday morning,
- 3:41Speaker 1: so a lot of it's still fresh in my mind.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Four days from now, I'm not gonna have any idea
- 3:45Speaker 1: what happened. So if you notice anything last week, just
- 3:49Speaker 1: let it go. Just please let it go. The go
- 3:54Speaker 1: thousand plagues or upon the House of Long Story Shore
- 3:56Speaker 1: at this point exactly exactly.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I have some just a brief news and note no
- 4:02Speaker 3: if you're interested, I am. The ratings for The Way
- 4:05Speaker 3: Home are still holding steady. The episode we're gonna recap
- 4:09Speaker 3: right now, episode six, pulled in one point five million
- 4:12Speaker 3: live viewers zero point one three of the eighteen to
- 4:16Speaker 3: forty nine year old demo, and it ranked twenty out
- 4:20Speaker 3: of the top fifty cable shows for Saturday Sunday night
- 4:23Speaker 3: February twenty six.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Nice, so still hold and strong.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And side note, I did you know Hamewark Movies and
- 4:31Speaker 3: Mysteries had a new movie on Sunday night as well?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Could not find it in the top one fifty.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh no, I know.
- 4:39Speaker 3: It was a Mahogany movie. I admittedly did not watch.
- 4:43Speaker 1: But that's not great. No, that's a that's not great.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, anyway, do you want to jump into The Way
- 4:52Speaker 3: Home Episode six?
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, let's hear a synopsis?
- 4:56Speaker 3: Alrighty, can Alice try to stop Jacob's disappearance? Dale realizes
- 5:00Speaker 3: the tragedy of Jacob was not hers alone and the
- 5:03Speaker 3: whole town's and moving towards healing. This is via IMDb.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I'm not really sure who wrote that. Hmm, okay, it
- 5:13Speaker 3: was the whole town's tragedy, not just hers alone. I
- 5:17Speaker 3: think I think that's what it's trying to say.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's how I understand it. Okay, already, A
- 5:24Speaker 1: real quick note about the title of this episode. You know,
- 5:27Speaker 1: last week's episode used a title that was not a
- 5:30Speaker 1: song from the nineties. This week, Building a Mystery is
- 5:34Speaker 1: a Sarah McLachlin song released in nineteen ninety seventh. We're
- 5:37Speaker 1: back on theme, we are.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I looked it up to you and they had a
- 5:40Speaker 3: picture of Sarah McLachlin from that time era, and it
- 5:45Speaker 3: was a real late nineties photo, like very much what
- 5:50Speaker 3: was going on on like nine oh two and zero
- 5:52Speaker 3: during that time total Donna hairr Yes, that's it, Donna hairstyle.
- 5:58Speaker 1: You may know this, listeners. There's a heavy nine rewatch
- 6:01Speaker 1: happening in my house. And we are in the post
- 6:03Speaker 1: college years when Donna very much had that you know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: that deep auburn hair with the very complicated hairstyles often
- 6:12Speaker 1: and it was very reminiscent of that, the zigzag part,
- 6:17Speaker 1: the zigzag part. Yes, yes, we haven't seen that in
- 6:21Speaker 1: the way home yet. No, we haven't a very gentle
- 6:26Speaker 1: look at nineties fashion. A very I would say generous
- 6:31Speaker 1: take on nineties fashion and nineties style in that show,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I would agree, which I appreciate me too.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Nobody wants to revisit the big black platform sandals.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Fonk fonnk funk thunk I still have you know. I
- 6:54Speaker 1: was in college in the late nineties and I had
- 6:57Speaker 1: those sandals and I wore them have vividly. Remember I
- 7:02Speaker 1: was there was some event at school. The president of
- 7:06Speaker 1: the university was speaking. We were on bleachers and I
- 7:09Speaker 1: had to leave at some point, and I remember going
- 7:13Speaker 1: down and it was just like echoing through this auditorium.
- 7:18Speaker 1: It was not great.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Those were the kind of shoes that you dressed up
- 7:23Speaker 3: and dressed down right.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Absolutely, you were them everywhere. Those are my fancy shoes.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Oh my god. So let's jump into this episode, episode six,
- 7:35Speaker 1: building a mystery. Like you said, It opens with Kat
- 7:38Speaker 1: at the paper and I'm just gonna call it the paper.
- 7:42Speaker 3: She's at the archives or wherever it is that she
- 7:44Speaker 3: works with Byron, and she is that what it's called
- 7:47Speaker 3: the Harald Thank you. She's researching Jacob's disappearance and she's
- 7:52Speaker 3: going through all these old newspapers and hear what the
- 7:55Speaker 3: headlines read. The first one was who took Jacob? Jacob's
- 7:59Speaker 3: bike found at Carnival entrance. How did it get there?
- 8:02Speaker 1: No leads?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Fisherman finds Jacob's Carnival prize on the shore. Search ins
- 8:08Speaker 3: for a missing eight year old best friend may have
- 8:10Speaker 3: been last person to see missing boy.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You know, I paused.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Every single like, I'm impressed, you know, half a second
- 8:18Speaker 3: to read those headlines. I was hoping we might get
- 8:21Speaker 3: a little bit of a insight, and we got a
- 8:25Speaker 3: little bit of foreshadowing.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'll leave it there. Yeah, it is a nice Honestly,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I will admit I did not read those that carefully.
- 8:34Speaker 1: But that's a nice little synopsis of the entire episode
- 8:37Speaker 1: right there. Totally totally, and you know, I would like
- 8:40Speaker 1: to applaud the whoever make props for props. Yeah, the
- 8:46Speaker 1: props department for like the effort into making Yeah, it
- 8:50Speaker 1: all look very real. Agree, Right? So Kat's reading.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Everything she's sorting for clues and information about his disappearance,
- 8:59Speaker 3: including Annie's police statement, which I didn't know eight year
- 9:03Speaker 3: olds can write their own police statement. Don't you think
- 9:07Speaker 3: that would have been like a verbal and the policeman
- 9:09Speaker 3: would have written it down.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah. I just thought it was a funny, funny take
- 9:13Speaker 1: on that. Byron confronts Kats.
- 9:16Speaker 3: He's worried that she's working too much, and he seems
- 9:19Speaker 3: genuinely concerned about her. Mm hmm, I mean maybe her
- 9:23Speaker 3: mental health or how much effort she's putting into this,
- 9:25Speaker 3: like getting too wrapped up into it.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And maybe she should do her actual job.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah, So what happened to that she's not writing stories
- 9:33Speaker 3: for the Herald anymore, She's just using the paper for
- 9:38Speaker 3: her own private research.
- 9:39Speaker 1: It's unclear to me. Yeah.
- 9:41Speaker 3: So Kat has this memory of like when Jacob first
- 9:43Speaker 3: goes missing at the carnival, and she packs up and leaves.
- 9:47Speaker 1: The office, and then we flashed back to nineteen ninety
- 9:50Speaker 1: nine and we see Kat and Jacob and Danny playing
- 9:55Speaker 1: on the beach and Nick nallis sitting and Alice is
- 9:58Speaker 1: real salty. She's being very very cold to Nick because
- 10:01Speaker 1: he didn't show up in the future, right, And you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: she's being very fifteen years old in this moment, asked
- 10:09Speaker 1: Right how he feels about her, and he says he's
- 10:12Speaker 1: into her big time, and she goes what about for
- 10:14Speaker 1: a long time, And I'm just, oh, Alice, it's a
- 10:18Speaker 1: very awkward moment, and I just I'm honestly both surprised
- 10:23Speaker 1: and not surprised that she's carried this future resentment back
- 10:27Speaker 1: to the past, right, Like this, Nick hasn't done anything
- 10:31Speaker 1: to you, and there's no way to know the circumstances
- 10:34Speaker 1: that future Nick is bringing into the picture exactly.
- 10:37Speaker 3: It's it's unfair to blame teenage Nick for something that
- 10:41Speaker 3: it's supposed to happen thirty years from now.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Especially because in the next moment, Kat comes over and
- 10:47Speaker 1: checks in. She's like, I'm trying to give you guys
- 10:49Speaker 1: some alone time, but you're obviously blowing it over here,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and Alice continues to be a super bummer. She says, well,
- 10:55Speaker 1: Nick's just unreliable, and I just think, you know, people
- 10:58Speaker 1: in glass houses, Alice, because nobody ever knows when you're
- 11:01Speaker 1: gonna show how high there exactly.
- 11:03Speaker 3: And we get some more of that later in the episode.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I just thought it was so funny. Nick is like
- 11:08Speaker 3: totally weirded out by this conversation, you know, rightly so,
- 11:12Speaker 3: and like this is why like fifteen year olds breakup.
- 11:16Speaker 3: They have like terrible, terrible communication skills, right, Like.
- 11:19Speaker 1: You don't say, like where are we at? Girl? You
- 11:22Speaker 1: just started like seeing this guy, like stop asking for
- 11:25Speaker 1: like what's happening next? Can you agree even give him
- 11:29Speaker 1: your phone number? Right exactly? He knows nothing about you, right,
- 11:34Speaker 1: So to your point, the communication is terrible and where
- 11:38Speaker 1: she tried to communicate, Well, I'm mad because in twenty
- 11:41Speaker 1: twenty three you did not show up for me. I mean,
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's all kind of a mess. It is a mess.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It is a mess.
- 11:49Speaker 3: We see right here at the end of the scene,
- 11:50Speaker 3: kat is annoyed with Danny and Jacob because they are
- 11:54Speaker 3: getting too close to the ocean water and you know,
- 11:56Speaker 3: she's trying to keep eyes on them and whatever.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And that's the that scene, and then we flash back
- 12:01Speaker 1: to the same beach back in the present day. Dell
- 12:04Speaker 1: is listening to a voicemail from It was unclear to
- 12:07Speaker 1: me in the moment who it was from, but we
- 12:09Speaker 1: learn shortly thereafter that it was Monica on the phone
- 12:13Speaker 1: talking about wanting to bring the carnival back. And I
- 12:15Speaker 1: was kind of surprised to learn that the carnival has
- 12:17Speaker 1: been gone for as long as Jacob has been gone,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and we get a brief flashback to Dell sobbing on
- 12:23Speaker 1: that same beach in nineteen ninety nine.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Right now, let me ask you, if hypothetically you were
- 12:31Speaker 3: to lose a child at a local town carnival, would
- 12:36Speaker 3: you expect the carnival not to resume the following thirty years.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I would not expect that, to know, right, I know
- 12:44Speaker 1: it was kind.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Of weird, how like they were so considerate of Dell's tragedy.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I guess yes, And I guess it just.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Kind of surprised me because I don't think we would
- 12:57Speaker 3: really see that in not certainly my town.
- 13:01Speaker 1: The carnival didn't take Jacob. The date is going to
- 13:04Speaker 1: continue to live on the calendar. I don't know. Of course,
- 13:09Speaker 1: you're right that it is a considerate move, and it's
- 13:12Speaker 1: an effective plot point here in this episode. I just
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm not so sure that that's a terribly realistic action
- 13:20Speaker 1: that's going to happen, definitely, because I agree everything that
- 13:24Speaker 1: we know the carnival was incidental there. It wasn't like
- 13:29Speaker 1: an accident related to the carnival specifically, Yes, he wasn't
- 13:34Speaker 1: paying hurt on a carnival ride. He wasn't hurt as
- 13:37Speaker 1: far as we know at the carnival, right, the carnival
- 13:40Speaker 1: just happened to be incidentally happening in the background.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I mean, Okay, though though we don't know, they do
- 13:47Speaker 3: think perhaps that Jacob was kidnapped. What if the carnival
- 13:51Speaker 3: brought strangers to the town. You see where I'm going
- 13:56Speaker 3: with this.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Sure, but this is a town that still relies on
- 13:58Speaker 1: tourism and is we know from lobster Fest just previously,
- 14:03Speaker 1: they're still welcoming strangers into the town. Very fair, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: it's a good plot point.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I agree, that's a good plot point, and we see
- 14:11Speaker 3: that in this episode. Next scene where in present days
- 14:14Speaker 3: still Rita, Cat and Dell are at the Landryes in
- 14:17Speaker 3: the kitchen, Rita is annoyed with Monica's efforts to bring
- 14:20Speaker 3: the carnill back. Rita is Rita ing I think here
- 14:26Speaker 3: and in one of the best scenes I've seen, talk
- 14:31Speaker 3: about a realistic scene, Alice comes downstairs, joins him in
- 14:35Speaker 3: the kitchen, and Kat says good morning to her. She
- 14:37Speaker 3: simply says good morning, Ali, and Alice turns and gives
- 14:42Speaker 3: her the greatest teenage eye roll.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Totally.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I was like, if that's not realistic, Like just for
- 14:49Speaker 3: simply saying good morning.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I thought it was great.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Elliott shows up and he's asking about baskets or something.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I'm not even quite sure what he was asking for.
- 14:58Speaker 3: I was watching the sub titles. I still don't know
- 15:01Speaker 3: what he was asking for. I don't think it's relevant
- 15:04Speaker 3: to this episode at all. Byron calls Dell, and I'm thinking, who.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Is calling so early in the morning. It's like Grand
- 15:11Speaker 1: Central station in his kitchen right now?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Seriously, And then we see that because Dell is just
- 15:17Speaker 3: like over it. She's over the overlapping chatter and she
- 15:20Speaker 3: just wants peace and quiet. Rita's poking her about Dell.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I mean, Rita is poking Dell about Byron, and uh,
- 15:29Speaker 3: it's she just wants peace and quiet.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yep, she bounces. She does. Now.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Kat ask Elliott for advice here, and he gives her
- 15:37Speaker 3: the cold shoulder about the whole Brady thing at the dance,
- 15:42Speaker 3: but she really needs to talk to him about how
- 15:44Speaker 3: to save Jacob and she has this plan and she
- 15:47Speaker 3: needs his help and you can see on his face
- 15:49Speaker 3: like he doesn't want to do it, but he also
- 15:50Speaker 3: can't resist helping her because he loves her, right, Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And he also loved Jacob too. I mean, obviously this
- 16:00Speaker 1: is something that has affected him. I find it really
- 16:03Speaker 1: interesting how little we get about the Cat and Brady
- 16:10Speaker 1: moment from last episode. You know, Alice brings it up
- 16:12Speaker 1: to her momentarily, and it's very much brushed aside, both
- 16:17Speaker 1: Cat to Alice and Cat to Elliott. It's like this
- 16:20Speaker 1: is it's very much done at this point anyway.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Right, I mean, I don't know how much of a
- 16:29Speaker 3: topic of conversation it would be in my home if
- 16:33Speaker 3: like my daughter saw me kissing like my ex like,
- 16:37Speaker 3: it wouldn't be Would it be like a family conversation?
- 16:41Speaker 1: Is that what we're expecting? She and Elliott needed to
- 16:44Speaker 1: have a better conversation about it. There's not a lot
- 16:47Speaker 1: of communication happening there. You know, he's clearly up in
- 16:50Speaker 1: this moment, Like you said, he's clearly upset, and she's like, yeah, yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: find that was meetingless. But that's not what I want
- 16:55Speaker 1: to talk to you about him. I needed to put
- 16:56Speaker 1: that aside because I have something else we need to
- 16:58Speaker 1: get into, right, And that's.
- 17:00Speaker 3: What kind of bugs me sometimes about adult Cat is
- 17:02Speaker 3: that she doesn't have a lot of like self awareness. Yes,
- 17:07Speaker 3: but you know, the bigger picture for her right now
- 17:10Speaker 3: is getting to Jacob and helping Jacob in the past.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yes, we cut to the point Monica's talking to Dell
- 17:19Speaker 1: about the carnival, and Monica's explaining the reason she wants
- 17:22Speaker 1: to bring it back for the town, all great reasons,
- 17:25Speaker 1: specifically it's good for the town, it's good for tourism.
- 17:27Speaker 1: But she talks about how she keeps putting posters up
- 17:30Speaker 1: and they keep getting ripped down. And the editing of
- 17:33Speaker 1: this is lovely because Danny walks in and it seems
- 17:35Speaker 1: very clear to me who might be ripping down these posters, even.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Smart I didn't notice it until much later.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I just felt like it was very you know, coincidental. Yes,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I thought it was nice, A nice little hint there.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Monica retrieves some more posters for him to put back up,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and Delle approaches him and lets him know it's it's
- 18:00Speaker 1: not her ripping down the posters. And I wrote in
- 18:03Speaker 1: all caps at this point in my notes, is it Danny?
- 18:06Speaker 1: So I had my suspicions in that moment, and Dell
- 18:12Speaker 1: throughout this episode is very sweet and lovely to Danny.
- 18:18Speaker 1: There's no reason she shouldn't be. She always hasn't. But
- 18:21Speaker 1: I don't know. I really enjoyed the way she is
- 18:23Speaker 1: with him in this episode. Yeah, I wrote down that
- 18:26Speaker 1: she's very soft and kind to Danny. Yes, and it
- 18:29Speaker 1: doesn't make.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Me wonder I was like, oh, does Dale know something
- 18:32Speaker 3: we don't know? Like she knows that Danny was not
- 18:37Speaker 3: a part of Jacob's disappearance.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But I wondered that too. But I think it's more
- 18:44Speaker 1: that Belle was the mother of an eight year old
- 18:47Speaker 1: boy who, you know, Danny cannot be expected to carry
- 18:52Speaker 1: the weight of the loss of his best friend, and
- 18:55Speaker 1: she doesn't want him to carry the guilt of that.
- 18:58Speaker 1: That's how I see it. I agree with you. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: agree with you. Okay.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Next thing, we have Cat and she has a murder board. Basically,
- 19:09Speaker 3: she's showing Elliott what she's put together. And this is
- 19:13Speaker 3: in the basement of the Landry home and she tells Elliott.
- 19:17Speaker 3: She explains that there was two theories to Jacob's disappearance,
- 19:19Speaker 3: one he was kidnapped or two he fell into the
- 19:22Speaker 3: ocean from the cliff. But she wants to explore all
- 19:25Speaker 3: the theories, including the White Witch, to which Elliott replies
- 19:29Speaker 3: that's insane, and I wrote, no more insane than time traveling, dude.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But okay, a pond, yes. I like how Elliot could
- 19:37Speaker 1: be like, oh no, no, no, no, We're not gonna go
- 19:39Speaker 1: down that route. That's just nope, scientifically impossible exactly.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Another clue she's questioning is why Jacob's bike is at
- 19:47Speaker 3: the carnival, and this, my friends, is called foreshadowing.
- 19:50Speaker 1: We learn why later.
- 19:53Speaker 3: She also explains that Brady has taken both Cat and
- 19:56Speaker 3: Jacob to the carnival, so why was the bike there?
- 20:00Speaker 1: We will find out.
- 20:01Speaker 3: She also tells Elliott that she's going to use all
- 20:03Speaker 3: this information she's gathered to save Jacob in the past
- 20:05Speaker 3: when she goes back to ninety nine and Elliott he's
- 20:09Speaker 3: frustrated with Kat. He doesn't believe the Pond will take
- 20:13Speaker 3: her back to this exact time, and she thinks the
- 20:16Speaker 3: Pond has a reason. Basically what they come to in
- 20:20Speaker 3: this conclusion that he tells her that what she is
- 20:23Speaker 3: doing isn't healthy, her obsession over this isn't healthy.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, And I just want to point out that this
- 20:30Speaker 1: is a show that was well planned from start to finish,
- 20:32Speaker 1: because we have been seeing the images of the bike
- 20:36Speaker 1: since the very beginning. Yes, ma'am, wasn't a show that
- 20:39Speaker 1: they figured out the details as they went along. They've
- 20:42Speaker 1: been laying that groundwork, which I really like, and now
- 20:45Speaker 1: we're just getting information about why that bike picture is significant.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So yeah, it's almost like.
- 20:50Speaker 3: A movie, don't you think so? Like I think this,
- 20:53Speaker 3: it's hard to plan out an entire season with all
- 20:59Speaker 3: these like I'm not gonna call them easter eggs, but
- 21:02Speaker 3: all this like information that has been like shown to
- 21:06Speaker 3: the audience since episode one, because I know a lot
- 21:10Speaker 3: of like seasons are written like as they go as
- 21:14Speaker 3: they go, But yeah, I wonder how long this the
- 21:19Speaker 3: series has been like ready like ready to go, Like
- 21:22Speaker 3: when did they finish it? Anyway, that's just a side note.
- 21:27Speaker 3: We are back at the Landry Farm and Alice and
- 21:29Speaker 3: Kat are in the kitchen. Alice is still clearly annoyed
- 21:32Speaker 3: with her mom. She's annoyed about Brady, She's annoyed that
- 21:36Speaker 3: Kat was dancing with Elliott at the dance. Kat just
- 21:39Speaker 3: brushes it all off, and she really wants Alice to
- 21:43Speaker 3: talk to her about the boys in her life. I mean,
- 21:45Speaker 3: obviously she's asking about Nick, but without asking specifically, and
- 21:51Speaker 3: Spencer gets brought up and here, hello, she says, Spencer
- 21:55Speaker 3: has a girlfriend.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Do you think she was just trying to brush Cat off?
- 22:02Speaker 3: Or is that Zoe girl really Spencer's girlfriend.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Oh that's a good question. I just assumed Zoe was
- 22:09Speaker 1: his girlfriend and this was our confirmation. But it could
- 22:11Speaker 1: just be your point too, just trying to get rid
- 22:16Speaker 1: of her her mom off the scent.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Right, But then this is such a side note. But
- 22:23Speaker 3: then shame on Spencer because he's very flirty with Alice.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Uh right a little bit? Is he flirty or is
- 22:30Speaker 1: he just friendly? I don't be a bully's cute?
- 22:35Speaker 3: Uh my fifteen year old self would mix those same
- 22:39Speaker 3: signals up to your show.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I'm sure. I don't know that. I don't know. So
- 22:44Speaker 1: Dell arrives home in this moment, and there's more talk
- 22:48Speaker 1: about the posters being ripped down, and they talk briefly
- 22:53Speaker 1: about Danny, and we cut to Cat adding a picture
- 22:56Speaker 1: of Danny to her murder board, and we get a
- 22:59Speaker 1: flashback to young Danny after the disappearance. So all of
- 23:03Speaker 1: this is building up to what is Danny's involvement?
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, And next thing we see Dell making pottery,
- 23:10Speaker 3: Which where did that come from?
- 23:12Speaker 1: Like? Has she ever made pottery before in an episode? No,
- 23:17Speaker 1: she's just you know, spinning her days after usually throwing
- 23:20Speaker 1: a pot pottery wheel. Is this a throw to the ghost?
- 23:26Speaker 1: What did that was in the eighties? That movie came out? Right?
- 23:32Speaker 1: I didn't, I don't think so, you know, things so
- 23:34Speaker 1: all right?
- 23:36Speaker 3: Byron arrives and Delle apologizes for how bad their date
- 23:41Speaker 3: went at the Roxy and how the memories were triggered
- 23:46Speaker 3: from the slide show and blah blah blah, and Byron
- 23:50Speaker 3: he's unaffected by this, and he instead tells her that
- 23:53Speaker 3: he's worried about cat. And so the next thing we see,
- 23:56Speaker 3: del runs down to the basement Catherine, Catherine, she's looking
- 23:59Speaker 3: for a cat, and what does she discover?
- 24:01Speaker 1: The murder board. Yeah, she's naturally freaked out and Inlock's cat.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And we cut to a commercial in this moment, but
- 24:08Speaker 1: we come back to Dell confronting Kat about the board,
- 24:12Speaker 1: and she wants her to let it go, but Kat
- 24:15Speaker 1: is convinced there's something they've missed. And you know, what
- 24:18Speaker 1: Dell doesn't know is Kat or what we don't know
- 24:22Speaker 1: if Dell knows is that Kat feels like if she
- 24:25Speaker 1: figures out what they missed, she can fix it, if
- 24:27Speaker 1: she can go back to that point in time. Kat's
- 24:31Speaker 1: currently focused on the fact that Danny kept changing his story.
- 24:35Speaker 1: This is unremarkable to me because I know eight year olds,
- 24:37Speaker 1: so Danny's an eight year old freaked out by talking
- 24:41Speaker 1: to the police. Delle makes the point that he was
- 24:44Speaker 1: in shock, but Kat wants to chuck Danny. Dell absolutely
- 24:48Speaker 1: does not want this to happen, but insists on joining
- 24:51Speaker 1: her if she's going to do that. And this is
- 24:54Speaker 1: a real singer right here. She says, I don't want
- 24:57Speaker 1: you to ask cruel and hurtful questions. And Cat says,
- 25:00Speaker 1: cruel and hurtful is that what you think a journalist does?
- 25:02Speaker 1: And Delle says, maybe not, but I bet you do. Yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 1: that was yike ouch. I mean, Delle has a sharp
- 25:10Speaker 1: tongue sometimes coming in hot. We're in nineteen ninety nine
- 25:16Speaker 1: in the next scene and Cat and Alice are in
- 25:18Speaker 1: Cat's bedroom and they're talking about Nick. Cat ribs are
- 25:21Speaker 1: a little bit for being unreliable because of her inconsistent showings.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I guess when she comes to town.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Cat tells Alice that Brady is coming into town for
- 25:32Speaker 3: the Fall Carnival. And this is where Alice learns that
- 25:35Speaker 3: the carnival is coming up this weekend, and so she's like,
- 25:39Speaker 3: I gotta go. She bounces out of there. She goes
- 25:41Speaker 3: over to see Elliott about and talk to them about
- 25:44Speaker 3: the carnival coming that she needs to be there for it.
- 25:47Speaker 3: And here's where she asks young Elliott to keep an
- 25:52Speaker 3: eye on Jacob. Like she tells them, I don't know
- 25:55Speaker 3: if I'm going to be back for certain I need
- 25:58Speaker 3: you to keep an eye. Pro must mean that you
- 26:00Speaker 3: will watch him.
- 26:02Speaker 1: This is one of the many moments in the show
- 26:06Speaker 1: where I understand for the plot why things weren't different.
- 26:09Speaker 1: But I wished, as a person who cares about these
- 26:12Speaker 1: characters that they had acted differently, Like I wish she
- 26:17Speaker 1: had let Elliott in on the reason why she was
- 26:19Speaker 1: asking him to care for Jacob, and then things might
- 26:22Speaker 1: have been different, right, I mean, why why would she
- 26:26Speaker 1: keep it a secret at this point?
- 26:28Speaker 3: I mean, we do see later on, we'll get to it.
- 26:30Speaker 3: She does tell young Elliott like what's up? But why
- 26:34Speaker 3: wouldn't she tell him now prepare him for it.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That's a great question that because I know, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 1: she doesn't want to give him too much information about
- 26:43Speaker 1: the future. I don't think that's super healthy, but knowing
- 26:48Speaker 1: what we know, I feel like this is important information
- 26:50Speaker 1: for him to have, particularly knowing that she doesn't have
- 26:54Speaker 1: any control over when she comes back. So in our
- 26:58Speaker 1: next scene, we're In's house in the present day, and
- 27:01Speaker 1: we learned that Danny lives in his parents' house, although
- 27:04Speaker 1: they have since moved to Florida, and Kat starts by
- 27:08Speaker 1: gently asking him questions about the day Jacob disappeared, but
- 27:11Speaker 1: she pretty quickly ramps up to reminding him that his
- 27:14Speaker 1: story has changed. Dale keeps butting in on Kat's questions,
- 27:19Speaker 1: but Kat tells Danny that they are witnesses. It said
- 27:23Speaker 1: maybe he and Jacob were fighting. Cat and Dell argue
- 27:26Speaker 1: for a minute, and Danny finally starts talking and telling
- 27:31Speaker 1: his story of that day, and he says that he
- 27:34Speaker 1: cannot shake it, and the reason that he lied is
- 27:37Speaker 1: because he wasn't supposed to be there. He was grounded,
- 27:40Speaker 1: he had not done his chores, and he went anyway,
- 27:44Speaker 1: and he tells the story which we'll later see that
- 27:46Speaker 1: he snuck into the carnival and Jacob had won a
- 27:49Speaker 1: stuffed toy, and in the way of eight year old boys,
- 27:51Speaker 1: Danny ran up and took it from him, and they
- 27:54Speaker 1: chased each other back and forth with it, and ultimately
- 27:58Speaker 1: Danny threw it off the cliff because that's the kind
- 28:00Speaker 1: of thing eight year old boys do. They antagonize each other.
- 28:04Speaker 1: And Jacob says he's gonna go for it, and Danny
- 28:08Speaker 1: double dog dares him to go for it, and in
- 28:11Speaker 1: this moment thinks he sees his parents and takes off
- 28:15Speaker 1: for home, and that was the last time that he
- 28:17Speaker 1: saw Jacob, and he carries a lot of guilt with
- 28:20Speaker 1: him for his eight year old boy actions.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Right, And then Kat doesn't help here because she says
- 28:26Speaker 3: she's very annoyed at the story and she's like, we
- 28:29Speaker 3: could have been looking in the right spot all these years.
- 28:32Speaker 3: And I'm like, what, like, don't pilot on the poor guy,
- 28:36Speaker 3: like he obviously feels guilty about it.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I thought that was a very hurtful statement on Kat's part.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Dell thanks him for his honesty and tells him not
- 28:47Speaker 1: to let the guilt dictate his life, and in this moment,
- 28:49Speaker 1: we see the torn up carnival posters in the fireplace.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Obviously, Danny doesn't want the Carnival coming back. It's
- 28:58Speaker 3: too heavy for him. Yes, Wolly, I thought Dell was
- 29:01Speaker 3: like so sweet and kind in this moment to Danny Man.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I also felt that the actor playing Danny, it was
- 29:12Speaker 3: a really emotional scene and he was crying, and I
- 29:15Speaker 3: just thought it was very well acted.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Agree.
- 29:19Speaker 3: And the next scene, we have Kat and Elliott in
- 29:22Speaker 3: the basement. This is present day.
- 29:24Speaker 1: She's telling him that she needs to go back and
- 29:27Speaker 1: change things, and he tells her Alice tried to change
- 29:32Speaker 1: things too, and it didn't make a difference that I'm
- 29:34Speaker 1: guessing he's referring to when she asked him to watch Jacob, right,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I think so. So they talked through the timeline. He
- 29:44Speaker 1: tells her that Alice is there right now in nineteen
- 29:47Speaker 1: ninety nine for the Carnival. And this is why my
- 29:49Speaker 1: brain can't quite understand how Elliott knows so much about
- 29:53Speaker 1: this like nonlinear timeline. H Like he's the only one
- 29:57Speaker 1: who has the full understanding of it. And and maybe
- 30:02Speaker 1: it's just because, like.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I have, I struggle with all that part of the show,
- 30:07Speaker 3: and I just think I'm just supposed to just let
- 30:09Speaker 3: it go.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I also this portion of the episode is very frenzied.
- 30:16Speaker 1: There's a lot of back and forth, and it's very
- 30:18Speaker 1: fast paced, and the music is very suspenseful, and it
- 30:21Speaker 1: kind of gets your brain moving faster than the story
- 30:24Speaker 1: is moving.
- 30:25Speaker 3: I absolutely one hundred percent agree. So we see here
- 30:29Speaker 3: after this conversation with Elliott, Kat takes off for the pond,
- 30:33Speaker 3: jumps back into nineteen ninety nine.
- 30:36Speaker 1: And she emerges wet from the woods to see everyone
- 30:39Speaker 1: driving off on Brady's in Brady's car to the carnival,
- 30:43Speaker 1: and she hops on Jacob's bike. That's right there, that's
- 30:47Speaker 1: right back in present day now we are.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Alice runs up, she sees Elliott. He's confused that she's back.
- 30:55Speaker 3: She tells him that time has jumped forward a month
- 31:00Speaker 3: since she was last there and that the carnival was
- 31:02Speaker 3: this weekend. And if I just can I we just
- 31:05Speaker 3: pause right here, because watching this scene unfold, I feel
- 31:11Speaker 3: like it potentially could have been out of order in
- 31:16Speaker 3: the episode. And this is why the scene. Prior to this,
- 31:20Speaker 3: Elliet had just told adult Cat that Alice was there
- 31:24Speaker 3: for the carnival, and that's why Cat ran off to
- 31:27Speaker 3: jump back to nineteen ninety nine.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Because the carnival was happening then, right, But.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Now we see Alice emerging and saying, like, the carnival's
- 31:37Speaker 3: happening this weekend, Like so he knew this information.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Before Alice told him. I do find these two conversations confusing,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and it's confusing to me if he's saying, like I
- 31:55Speaker 1: I know because he says Alice is there for the carnival.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Is he saying Alice is there right now for the
- 32:02Speaker 1: carnival or in nineteen ninety nine Alice is there for
- 32:05Speaker 1: the carnival? She is there? Do you know what I'm saying?
- 32:10Speaker 1: Idea was there and she was there too. So I
- 32:13Speaker 1: do think that is confusing, and perhaps a little bit
- 32:17Speaker 1: intentionally so, because Alice has just come back, and when
- 32:22Speaker 1: she was in nineteen ninety nine, she was a few
- 32:24Speaker 1: days ahead of the carnival. She's come out of the woods.
- 32:26Speaker 1: She's going to turn around, jump back in the pond,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and fast forward several days while in real time, no
- 32:32Speaker 1: time has actually passed, right. It's super confusing, it is,
- 32:37Speaker 1: And this is where it kind of ends like that. Okay,
- 32:40Speaker 1: now we're pretty steadily in a good timeline place at
- 32:46Speaker 1: this point. Once Alice goes back to the day of
- 32:49Speaker 1: the carnival.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Yes, And during this conversation, right before it ends, Elliott
- 32:55Speaker 3: tells Alice what happened on that day.
- 32:57Speaker 1: She finally tells him what I don't know. So Alice
- 33:02Speaker 1: is talking to adult Elliott and she says, why didn't
- 33:05Speaker 1: at work when I asked you to protect Jacob? He says,
- 33:07Speaker 1: Brady ditched him on the way to the carnival, so
- 33:09Speaker 1: by the time he and Alice arrived with the carnival,
- 33:11Speaker 1: it was too late. And Elliott says to himself, what
- 33:15Speaker 1: happened has always happened, You'll be late, and Alice turns
- 33:17Speaker 1: around and runs back to the pond.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Exactly So is this some epiphany that we need to
- 33:22Speaker 3: understand now what happened will always happen, Like Jacob's going
- 33:26Speaker 3: to go missing no matter what I mean?
- 33:28Speaker 1: I think, yes, that is what we're meant to believe,
- 33:30Speaker 1: although I still feel like there's some big reveal coming
- 33:35Speaker 1: I hope. So uh okay. So now we're back in
- 33:38Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine and adult Cat arrives to the carnival
- 33:42Speaker 1: on the bike, throws the bike down, and then as
- 33:45Speaker 1: she steps away, realizes that she was the one who
- 33:48Speaker 1: put the bike there. It was me. I was here.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I was always here. It was me. I was here,
- 33:53Speaker 1: I was always here, and then runs off to the carnival.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and then like my brain just is like melting down,
- 33:58Speaker 3: like how were you there?
- 34:00Speaker 1: Ever?
- 34:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I can't. I just I just have to
- 34:03Speaker 3: just enjoy the show. I can't analyze it. Agree, these
- 34:08Speaker 3: things are not truly explainable, so I just have.
- 34:11Speaker 1: To go with it. We also get a shot of
- 34:14Speaker 1: Alice and Elliott as Alice is arriving in nineteen ninety
- 34:17Speaker 1: nine the day of the carnival. Alice is panicking and
- 34:19Speaker 1: she at this point tells Elliot why she had asked
- 34:22Speaker 1: him to watch Jacob, and they take off on Elliott's
- 34:25Speaker 1: bike to the carnival. This next scene is really incongruous
- 34:29Speaker 1: from everything that has come before it because it's a
- 34:31Speaker 1: real fun like carnival scene. Colton is in the dunk tank,
- 34:35Speaker 1: there's lots of Landry family smiles. They're all enjoying themselves.
- 34:40Speaker 1: But then we cut to adult cat searching for Jacob.
- 34:42Speaker 1: She needs to get eyes on him, and she finds him.
- 34:46Speaker 1: She watches him board the ferris wheel, cat loads him
- 34:49Speaker 1: on the ferris wheel. He really wants to ride on
- 34:52Speaker 1: his own, so young Cat's loading him on. Adult Cat
- 34:55Speaker 1: is watching from afar, and Cat and Brady are going
- 34:59Speaker 1: to get on the fair wheel after and they say,
- 35:01Speaker 1: you know, wait for me when you get off. Now
- 35:03Speaker 1: this seems super reasonable. This is a small town carnival.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Your eight year old brother can wait until you get
- 35:10Speaker 1: off as the next person. Right, Yeah, I agree, But
- 35:16Speaker 1: the suspenseful music happening behind that scene is really making me, like,
- 35:22Speaker 1: Cat get closer, adult Cat, get closer to the ferris wheel,
- 35:26Speaker 1: You're going to lose him, Yes, totally, totally. A lot happens.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Jacob drops his dog. He yells for Cat, who is
- 35:34Speaker 1: too busy making out with Brady, and she doesn't hear him.
- 35:37Speaker 1: And so when he gets off of the ferris wheel,
- 35:40Speaker 1: he runs after his dog, and there's a brief moment
- 35:42Speaker 1: where cat Cat finds him. And there's a lot of
- 35:45Speaker 1: moments in this episode that you're like, but that's not it.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Jacob like sneaks through the gates of the carnival ride
- 35:52Speaker 1: to get his dog, and then Cat cannot find him.
- 35:56Speaker 1: We do see Jacob on his own walking through the carnival,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and we see Danny Jacob in the moment he tell
- 36:02Speaker 1: the women about earlier and they sneak into the Haunted
- 36:05Speaker 1: Forest attraction. Alice has found young Cat and Young Brady
- 36:11Speaker 1: and they tell him that Jacob is missing, and she
- 36:14Speaker 1: wants to tell Dell and Colton, and Cat and Brity
- 36:16Speaker 1: don't because they do not want to get in trouble.
- 36:20Speaker 1: So Alice is more motivated and Elliott in this moment
- 36:24Speaker 1: to find Jacob because they know what's at stake, and
- 36:29Speaker 1: Cat breaks in to the Haunted Worst Attraction. Alice breaks
- 36:32Speaker 1: into the Haness Forest attraction. Alice catches a glimpse of Cat.
- 36:36Speaker 1: In this moment, a lot is happening. They're all looking
- 36:39Speaker 1: for Jacob. They're searching for him. It's very suspenseful. There's
- 36:42Speaker 1: a lot going on, and at some point it's now nighttime. Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 1: that was fast time. How much time has passed? And
- 36:48Speaker 1: this is when they alert Dell and Colton and the
- 36:51Speaker 1: search continues.
- 36:53Speaker 3: So now we see adult Cat and she's walking to
- 36:56Speaker 3: the cliff area looking for Jacob based on Danny's store,
- 37:00Speaker 3: She's like, he's supposed to be here, and then she
- 37:04Speaker 3: sees that the stuffed animal is already floating in the
- 37:07Speaker 3: ocean below and she says, I'm too late, and then
- 37:10Speaker 3: but she catches Jacob walking off in a distance and
- 37:13Speaker 3: tells him to stop, and I'm.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Like, stranger, danger man. I'm like, I'm surprised that Jacob
- 37:19Speaker 1: like even engage in a conversation with this lady he
- 37:23Speaker 1: does not know seriously, but I am a child of
- 37:26Speaker 1: the eighties, so maybe that's just ingrained in me. She
- 37:31Speaker 1: does tell him she's Alice's mom. Yeah, I like that.
- 37:34Speaker 3: She explains that, like, I'm Alice's mom, you'r sister's friends,
- 37:38Speaker 3: you know whatever, Like that was that was good. She
- 37:40Speaker 3: asks if he's okay, and he says that he's going home,
- 37:44Speaker 3: and she's like, well, maybe let's go find your parents,
- 37:46Speaker 3: and he's like, nah, I'm just gonna go home, which
- 37:48Speaker 3: is like really funny, Like you don't let your eight
- 37:51Speaker 3: Like an eight year old is not going to walk
- 37:53Speaker 3: home alone in the dark from some carnival. I don't
- 37:56Speaker 3: care what town you live in. It just does not
- 37:59Speaker 3: seem plause to me. But whatever. She convinces him, like, hey,
- 38:03Speaker 3: can I walk home with you? She wants to make
- 38:06Speaker 3: sure that he gets back to the house safely, and
- 38:13Speaker 3: and they take off. Next thing we see Dell is
- 38:16Speaker 3: telling young Cat to go home to see if Jacob
- 38:19Speaker 3: is there. Here, I think we really see Dell is
- 38:25Speaker 3: unhappy with Kat that she let Jacob out of her sight.
- 38:29Speaker 1: You know, that's interesting because when Kat agrees to go home, Dell,
- 38:34Speaker 1: to me in that moment, actually didn't seem angry with her.
- 38:37Speaker 1: She was like, thank you, honey, like she m M.
- 38:40Speaker 1: I feel like she rains in her frustration at the
- 38:43Speaker 1: end of that conversation. But it is a smart move
- 38:46Speaker 1: to send somebody to the house. But Cat naturally feels
- 38:50Speaker 1: very responsible for him going missing. Well, maybe I'm reading
- 38:54Speaker 1: into it because, like in the first you know, one
- 38:57Speaker 1: or two episodes to be the series, Like I thought
- 39:02Speaker 1: Dell was unhappy with Kat, like I thought their whole
- 39:05Speaker 1: falling out was based over Jacob, like based on his disappearance,
- 39:09Speaker 1: like Dell blamed Cat for it. Maybe I'm wrong. I
- 39:15Speaker 1: still truly don't understand what their whole you know, beef
- 39:20Speaker 1: was about. Yeah, I don't think we know what. I
- 39:22Speaker 1: suspect there's a lot of blame Cat has placed on
- 39:24Speaker 1: herself and that has affected a lot of her relationship.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but come on, Dell, if you are so kind
- 39:29Speaker 3: and soft to Danny and tells him not to blame
- 39:32Speaker 3: himself for it. She should also do the same with
- 39:34Speaker 3: Kat then, how you think? And maybe there's some resentment
- 39:38Speaker 3: there from Cat. Oh sure that she hasn't gotten the
- 39:42Speaker 3: same grace that Dell has given to other people.
- 39:45Speaker 1: This next scene is very emotional for me. Kat's walking
- 39:48Speaker 1: with young Jacob and talking to him about his photography,
- 39:51Speaker 1: and he's talking about his sister and how they're gonna
- 39:54Speaker 1: work together. And Kat tells Jacob that Alice tells her
- 39:58Speaker 1: how much loves Jacob, and I think this is a
- 40:02Speaker 1: really sweet opportunity for her to make sure Jacob knows
- 40:07Speaker 1: how much he's loved. And they arrive home and Brady's
- 40:11Speaker 1: cars there, and so Kat just sends him on in
- 40:13Speaker 1: the house and Jacob runs in, and then Kat runs off,
- 40:16Speaker 1: and I think again, act differently. Please, what would you
- 40:21Speaker 1: have like to see it? And see? And said, I
- 40:23Speaker 1: would like to have seen him reunite with some authority figure,
- 40:27Speaker 1: with his sister, with Brady, with somebody I know he
- 40:30Speaker 1: gets in the house m M. And in a normal
- 40:33Speaker 1: circumstance that would be fine, but in this child disappeared
- 40:37Speaker 1: without a trace. I would want to see someone see him.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I would agree with you, Like she just let it go.
- 40:46Speaker 3: She should have peeked through the window or something like
- 40:48Speaker 3: she just she was like, Okay, great, he's in the house.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Cat's there. All is good. But yeah, can you go
- 40:54Speaker 1: get your sister and have her wave so I know
- 40:56Speaker 1: that she's just something that she got in.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, totally, I absolutely agree.
- 41:03Speaker 1: And then we cut back to the town hall meeting,
- 41:05Speaker 1: which is real reminiscent of a Gilmore Girls meeting to
- 41:07Speaker 1: me and.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Oh, for sure, yeah, the Charlie's Chicken guy or whatever.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Yeah, real reminiscence of Grandma Girls. For sure. They're at
- 41:19Speaker 1: the point and they are meeting, of course, to vote
- 41:23Speaker 1: about bringing back the carnival. The aforementioned Wally of Wally's
- 41:27Speaker 1: Chip Wagon makes a plea for why he wants to
- 41:30Speaker 1: bring back the carnival, and then we cut back to
- 41:33Speaker 1: Cat running through the farmhouse in present day looking for Jacob.
- 41:37Speaker 1: And this is so confusing to me, Like, now, in
- 41:41Speaker 1: the future, you think he's just going to be sitting
- 41:43Speaker 1: in the house. That's what my notes say. I go,
- 41:46Speaker 1: what was she expecting to find adult Jacob? What? And
- 41:54Speaker 1: over this footage of Cat running through the house. She
- 41:57Speaker 1: then runs to the almanac. Dell gets to speak, and
- 42:00Speaker 1: she gives a lovely speech thinking the community and makes
- 42:04Speaker 1: her own plea for healing, and she supports bringing the
- 42:10Speaker 1: carnival back as the best way to move forward.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I think it's safe to say here, like for those
- 42:14Speaker 3: who have not seen the episode yet, like we have
- 42:18Speaker 3: two scenes that are happening simultaneously, and like there's you know,
- 42:25Speaker 3: talk over like one scene. It's it's very fast and
- 42:28Speaker 3: very hard to like articulate, like what's happening? I think
- 42:31Speaker 3: here to the listener.
- 42:34Speaker 1: As is made clear by the fact that I am
- 42:36Speaker 1: stumbling over my word. Oh no, no, no. But Ella's
- 42:39Speaker 1: talking about moving forward as Kat is realizing that nothing
- 42:43Speaker 1: has changed, like it is probably time for her to
- 42:47Speaker 1: accept that Jacob is gone.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Yes, and she says to the townspeople, we can't change
- 42:53Speaker 3: the past. We need to focus on the future.
- 42:58Speaker 1: But you're right.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Here's where ed Cat pulls out that almanac and sees
- 43:02Speaker 3: that Jacob's death is still written in it.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Hey, I have a question. Yeah, you know, Dell has
- 43:08Speaker 1: been I wouldn't say okay with the loss of Jacob.
- 43:13Speaker 1: She's clearly affected by it, but she has seemed to
- 43:16Speaker 1: have accepted it far more than Kat ever. Did you know,
- 43:21Speaker 1: we don't know. There's a lot of talk about the
- 43:23Speaker 1: White Witch. We don't know what that's gonna end up being.
- 43:26Speaker 1: We don't know if Dell's a time traveler. Do you
- 43:28Speaker 1: think Dell knows more than she's allowed us to know.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I think so.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Look, I definitely think so okay, But then sometimes it's
- 43:39Speaker 3: there's scenes that are contradictory to that. So you know,
- 43:44Speaker 3: I don't know. We're just gonna have to wait and
- 43:45Speaker 3: see how that totally unfolds.
- 43:48Speaker 1: M M.
- 43:51Speaker 3: And the next thing, we're back in nineteen ninety nine
- 43:53Speaker 3: and Colton is looking for Jacob and the uh, the
- 43:58Speaker 3: guy that was mentioned in the headline.
- 44:00Speaker 1: The theory beginning.
- 44:01Speaker 3: The fisherman finds Jacob stuffed a dog down at the
- 44:06Speaker 3: shore and Colton tells him to jump in, jump in
- 44:09Speaker 3: the boat.
- 44:10Speaker 1: We're gonna go. We're gonna go look for him. I mean,
- 44:12Speaker 1: I understand it, But if he fell off the cliff
- 44:15Speaker 1: is looking for him from a boat at night, I
- 44:19Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. I but your child's missing.
- 44:24Speaker 1: You do whatever, you look anywhere as implausible as it seems,
- 44:28Speaker 1: right so this is.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Like, Okay, if a person were to fall off a cliff,
- 44:35Speaker 3: would their body be like at the bottom of the cliff,
- 44:39Speaker 3: or was the tide high where they would have fallen
- 44:42Speaker 3: into the ocean, or had the tide come in, And
- 44:44Speaker 3: now the body is watched out, so it's possible that
- 44:48Speaker 3: they could be looking in the water for.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Him and they're hoping that he is swimming in the
- 44:53Speaker 1: water hoping. Yes, you know, but why wasn't that any
- 45:00Speaker 1: sort of like surgeon situations. Yeah, I don't, I don't.
- 45:08Speaker 1: There's no authority figure involved in this search at this point.
- 45:12Speaker 1: You're right, where are the policemen.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yeah, there's got to be a town sheriff somebody somebody.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Next thing, we're back in present day and Dell and
- 45:22Speaker 3: Kat are talking and Delle thinks Kat is upset about
- 45:26Speaker 3: bringing the carnival back and is like, you know, consoling her,
- 45:30Speaker 3: and Kat apologizes for not being able to save Jacob.
- 45:33Speaker 3: So there's a lot of things that are unset in
- 45:34Speaker 3: this scene.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Kat obviously feels.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Bad that she couldn't have saved Jacob by going back
- 45:40Speaker 3: to the past, but Dell is not aware of that,
- 45:44Speaker 3: of that situation and how it unfolded. She just thinks
- 45:47Speaker 3: she's upset about the carnival, and they have this nice
- 45:50Speaker 3: mother daughter moment which we've been waiting for, we have
- 45:54Speaker 3: not seen since episode one.
- 45:56Speaker 1: A little bit in episode two after the mamor I
- 46:00Speaker 1: believe yes, okay, fine, yes, but yes, I have been
- 46:03Speaker 1: waiting a little bit more for this maternal dell to
- 46:07Speaker 1: cap moment. We cut back to nineteen ninety nine with
- 46:10Speaker 1: the scene with the boat that we've seen before. Calton
- 46:12Speaker 1: arriving back at the dock, scraping the boat against the dock,
- 46:16Speaker 1: and we hear him saying I can't find him. He's gone.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Just like that, He's gone. Our search is over, like
- 46:23Speaker 1: what what?
- 46:26Speaker 3: And our final scene we were back in present day
- 46:28Speaker 3: and Kat is telling Elliott that she walked Jacob home.
- 46:33Speaker 1: He went into the house.
- 46:34Speaker 3: She asks Elliott why it didn't work. Elliott doesn't seem
- 46:38Speaker 3: to have the answers, which is funny because he seems
- 46:40Speaker 3: to have the answers to everything else. This one no answer,
- 46:44Speaker 3: he consoles her. This is nice. Alice walks up from
- 46:48Speaker 3: nineteen ninety nine. She's emerged from the pond and wet,
- 46:52Speaker 3: and Kat tells Alice we lost him. And so here's
- 46:58Speaker 3: when Alice confirms that it was adult Cat that she
- 47:01Speaker 3: saw in the Funhouse mirrors and asks her how long
- 47:05Speaker 3: Cat's been lying to Alice about this, and Kat runs off.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I don't have episode. That was the reaction Kat was
- 47:14Speaker 1: hoping for. I think she was hoping they could really
- 47:16Speaker 1: have a moment. Yeah, like we tried.
- 47:19Speaker 3: We both tried together to save him and didn't work.
- 47:22Speaker 1: And yeah, exactly, And I really, you know, knowing what
- 47:29Speaker 1: Alice was going through. Question at this point, Kat's decision
- 47:33Speaker 1: not to talk to Alice, not to partner with her
- 47:36Speaker 1: leading up to this moment. I don't know how you
- 47:40Speaker 1: do that. This is an uncomfortable conversation. Hi, I know
- 47:43Speaker 1: you can time travel and I can too. But we're here,
- 47:48Speaker 1: so let's shine out on Scooby. Let's work together here, buddy.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. And one thing I found so interesting is
- 47:58Speaker 1: Kat is hiding the whole time in nineteen ninety nine,
- 48:01Speaker 1: and the only person who could possibly recognize her is Alice.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I just wonder it's not unusual for an adult woman
- 48:07Speaker 1: to be walking through the carnival. I don't know who
- 48:10Speaker 1: else she's hiding from. Yeah, I don't think like Brady
- 48:13Speaker 1: and Cat.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Young Brady and Cat are gonna be like, hey, that
- 48:16Speaker 3: looks like an adult you.
- 48:17Speaker 1: You know they're right, They're not going to No, it's
- 48:20Speaker 1: not going to happen. Did you see the previews for
- 48:22Speaker 1: next week? I did. Okay, I have a question for you. Okay,
- 48:27Speaker 1: is this episode marking the end of Jacob's disappearance? I
- 48:33Speaker 1: don't know the answer to that, because they.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Like showed like the family kind of like moving on.
- 48:39Speaker 3: I thought, like we saw I mean, the preview is
- 48:43Speaker 3: all of fifteen seconds we see like young Cat at
- 48:46Speaker 3: a dance.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I'm just wondering, like what that would be interesting to see.
- 48:50Speaker 1: I find it hard to believe that they've just decided
- 48:53Speaker 1: like he went off the cliff and he's gone, that
- 48:55Speaker 1: they're just not.
- 48:56Speaker 3: There's not some full like missing person and TV showstigation
- 49:02Speaker 3: some thing. Yeah, Like I mean, I think when children
- 49:08Speaker 3: go missing, especially like this, there would have been a
- 49:12Speaker 3: nationwide search for him.
- 49:15Speaker 1: No, he's a town wide search. Could the sheriff show up? Please? Something? Something?
- 49:20Speaker 1: We know that there were posters, so there must be
- 49:24Speaker 1: more to the story.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Was Amber alert around in nineteen ninety nine. I don't
- 49:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna look I'm gonna look right now. Amber Alert
- 49:36Speaker 3: started in nineteen ninety six.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Oh get that kid on an Amber alert freeway sign?
- 49:42Speaker 1: Yeah something. Anyway, what this episode was very light on
- 49:46Speaker 1: was noticed in the nineties moments total nothing, zero things agree.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Kind of bummed about it. That's well. Last week I
- 49:54Speaker 1: thought like they hit us over the head.
- 49:56Speaker 3: With it, So this week having like none was kind
- 49:59Speaker 3: of a bummer.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yeah, are you ready for our homie of the week?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Go for it. We agree this was a pretty strong
- 50:07Speaker 1: episode from the entire ensemble. But if we're going to
- 50:10Speaker 1: have to name just one person, I think we're gonna
- 50:12Speaker 1: go with Dell for the week. She has a really
- 50:15Speaker 1: strong arc in this episode. She's just kind of a
- 50:18Speaker 1: pillar underneath so many people under the community, a pillar
- 50:22Speaker 1: of support for Danny. She shows up for Cat in
- 50:24Speaker 1: the end. She makes a lot of good and right
- 50:28Speaker 1: moves in this episode, and so while I still find
- 50:33Speaker 1: myself wanting more from her, she's also a woman who
- 50:36Speaker 1: lost her son very young and lost her husband very young.
- 50:40Speaker 1: So she's a woman who's dealt with a lot and
- 50:43Speaker 1: is dealing with it in her own way. Yeah, good choice. Hey, thanks,
- 50:47Speaker 1: We hope to be back to our full and regular
- 50:50Speaker 1: schedule next week, barring any additional tragedies. Yes look forward
- 50:56Speaker 1: to and movie review, plus a recap from US next
