- 0:00SPEAKER_00: hello hello and welcome to a new episode of whispers of inner power
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: the interview series for sensitive women highly sensitive women
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: in business today i'm joined by marie louise c who is
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: an artist writer mindfulness educating educator sorry running fiercely human
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: a beautiful space and at the intersection of philosophy mindfulness
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: and creative practice thank you so much
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: for joining us today marie louise how are you doing
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: hello thank you for having me i'm i'm okay i'm okay i'm good i'm happy to be here
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: so good very honored we were discussing a little bit before pressing the live button
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: and you were saying
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: that something major had happened uh recently tell us tell us what happened
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: so 10 days ago me and my family part of my family i have four daughters
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: but only two living at home at the moment we had carbon monoxide poisoning
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: and yes it's as bad as it sounds it was
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: a crazy moment um i'm i'd yeah i was i wanted to touch on that first because
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know how it works but it kind of stays in the brain and I made
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: a quick internet research that says you can have side effects for days to weeks
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: after so I'm really hoping it goes away and I've had brain fog before
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: but this is quite something so I may look for words and I may not be as sharp
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: and articulate as I'm used to be but also
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: i just wanted to say it was an experience in intuition because i kind of had
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: an alarm ringing in my head that something was happening
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: and my carbon detector was malfunctioning and then i tweaked it and it rang and
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: so
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: if you don't have one please and you are listening to this
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: it will save your life because it doesn't smell anything
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: and also there are more carbon monoxide poisoning at the moment because of
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: the heat waves and so the first thing to do is to open all your windows
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: but it was 8pm we were about to the kids were in bed and we were all tired
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: because it really gets at you and if we would all have gone to bed
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: some of us wouldn't be here to talk about it so we had quite high levels
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: of carbon monoxide in our blood uh and uh yeah so that's it's terrifying
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: to hear like you said that you can't really know it's incredible that you had
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: that instinct to to check how did it happen is it because of the boiler or something
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: or yes the boiler yes
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: So look for signs of weird headache, pounding and nausea like what's the English?
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Like dizziness.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: And my youngest daughter had it worse because she's tiny
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: and she started to throw up but we thought it was like a stomach bug or something
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: until I was sure it wasn't that but I can't really explain.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: i can't really explain i have to say but i'm i'm so yeah wow and
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: so you realize you realize or maybe the the detector isn't working which i mean come
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: on you buy them you think this is going to protect us
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: and it's you you change something it starts ringing and that and
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: then what did you do i opened the window i call
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: the first response i don't know how that's that's also les pompiers and
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: and they couldn't because I opened
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: the windows their detectors didn't get any traces it can go away quite fast
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: but you have to replace it with something else and that's the same
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: in your body we had to breathe in oxygen masks delivering high doses of oxygen
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: for 12 hours so we spent the night in the ER all in separate rooms breathing
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: into oxygen masks
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: yeah and i also felt you know that quote they have about mothers that you need
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: to put your exigen mask it made me made me think i would write an article about that
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: because you don't want to do that you want to put it on your child this is viewers
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: and and that's what they did actually and then they sent me
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: a way to have my own. But yes, I really thought a lot about it and I've written about it
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: and then I went away and I really connected very differently to my creativity
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: and my mindfulness practice like the formal part of it really was so supportive
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: to go through all everything you think you know when something as bad
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: as this happens you go like oh there's there's guilt there's fear there's i
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: shouldn't have done this or that and you want someone to blame or and so like having
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: a formal practice really takes you through these steps without taking you away from
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: the experience yeah and uh
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: yes really challenging so what what does your formal practice look like so uh
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: so i'm i'm graduating very soon from the insight meditation tradition
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: and uh my teachers are jack cornfield and tabak if if you know them of course
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: and i love i love their teachings because it's very secular
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: so you can touch a bit on Buddhism but you know
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: if you feel like some people have their own history
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: with religion well you can take this practice and it's simple
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: and it really relates
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: to the daily life you can do it anywhere etc I really love so my formal practice
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: for myself is sitting every day
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: and i have a setup i have a zafu and a zabuton if people don't know what it is like
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: a square mat with a round cushion on top so you don't hurt it's really
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: for comfort you don't hurt your ankles you'll have your you know
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: the position is is is comfortable but it allows for you to be alert and
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: then it's just being what's with what's there
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: and there's no i mean no mantra no things no no you are not looking
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: for enlightenment you are just looking to be with what is and i think this is
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: the most beautiful thing because especially when you are i think sensitive or
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: when you are an artist there's a
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: and there can be judgment self-judgment there can be we have
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: a stronger inner critic uh women also and so it's not about uh trying to be silent
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: in your head because your brain is going to think anyway and uh i mean if you're
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: if you are a combination of being highly sensitive
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: a bit neurodivergent ADHD stuff like that it keeps going so there's
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: a huge allowing component to the practice and yes deep acceptance but
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: the formal part is that you do it every day you sit to practice practice
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: and i sit for between 10 or 30 minutes a day that depends and
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: when i can't sit i bring the practice to what i'm doing and that's also
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: the beautiful aspect of it is that you do the dishes like you really do
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: the dishes what's pleasant what's unpleasant it's really an inquiry
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: of your experience and i really love it for creativity because i think you
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: when you get to you get in the flow I mean
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: it's almost it's ingrained in
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: the practice because I think it's easier to get in the flow when you are
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: in your experience and I've been practicing like that for many years
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: and I've been practicing differently before but I really stuck to it
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: in that form because i think it's gentle it's kind
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: and oh gosh do i mean that's what we need yeah yeah absolutely
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: and also sometimes i think a lot of people can be you know stopped or blocked
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: from practicing mindfulness or meditation or creativity because we have this idea
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: of what it should look like the setting it should be you know and you mentioned
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: your pillow your meditation pillow i didn't catch the word you use
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: but i imagine it's a it's like a pillow um and i i refer to myself
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: for instance i i love what you shared um i've been practicing mindfulness
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: and meditation for years as well but not quite as as you did
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: as you have um recently i went back to it and decided i'm going to just going to sit
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: for at least 10 minutes and see where it gets me without because usually i would
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: in the past i would listen to a guided meditation for instance which is it's okay
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: but i've wanted i've been wanting some something different and to just be
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: and just be present with my thoughts the temperature everything around me
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: and it's really magical like you were saying because it's like instead of resisting
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: to what actually is happening around me
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: and you have children like i do you can't always control your environment
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: or have this moment of pure quiet for 30 minutes i mean i homeschool them they're
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: with me all the time and i tell them i'm taking a time away
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: and i'm being alone right now you know
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: but my my youngest is five like it's inevitable i would usually be
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: tense with that like no i'm meditating i'm doing this thing it has to be this way
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: so it's like more control and more resistance the opposite of what we're trying
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: to reach right um but i see how this practice and i'm not sure mine is like yours
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: but i can see the similarities to just you know he's there and he's talking to me
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: and i don't need
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: to respond i'm just telling him nicely i'm i'm i'm sitting right now
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: with my eyes closed i'm
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: i'm not going to respond but i'm telling him i'm responding while i do that
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: and it's okay there's really something
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: what's the word it transpires
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: to everything else throughout the day because then you if you can accept
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: that things aren't perfect in this moment then they also it's also okay for
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: the next bit where actually you're working or you're being being creative
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: for your work for your job or you know things like that it just
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: brings that acceptance to everything else and and i want to make the parallel
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: with creativity which is our topic today creativity as as medicine
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: because i think it's one of the reasons why we don't allow ourselves to play
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: with drawing and painting and whatever you like to create with because you think oh
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: i have to have two hours and all my material and create something beautiful
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: so i'm gonna give the mic to you so you can respond to that yeah well
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: if i can just touch on something you said and it's going to transition very nicely
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: into the creativity because i think for me it's so linked
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: and i couldn't say how it happened which of
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: the two i did first i think it really happened organically
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: that i started meditating more and i decided that my creativity had to be in
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: the forefront of my life and the the two feed each other but what i what's helpful
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: in meditation that you can take is
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: in creativity is that sort of buffer you give yourself between
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: you, your thoughts and reality. And so you don't have your thoughts
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: and emotions so stuck
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: in the experience and then something expands
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: and you start responding instead of reacting.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: For me it was really crucial to understand
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: there's a quote actually from victor franco about between uh
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: the your experience like a stimulus and
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: and you can you can expand you can create something that will bring
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: a response instead of reaction and i should look for the precise quote but i love it
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: and
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: um when you and also the relationship to this perfect ideal idea that we get
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: because i think social media doesn't help you see asanas you see like you see this
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: perfect yogis and perfect meditation spaces i'd like to say as well very quickly
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: that i have chronic pain and so sometimes i meditate on a chair
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: sometimes i meditate lying lying down and for the best part of last year i had
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: to i couldn't see it cross-legged and uh but okay so response uh and perfection
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: in creativity the way i see it i try to make it as portable as i can
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: but also recognizing that okay if you are an artist you need
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: a finished piece finished piece to sell maybe you need bigger but if you want
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: to use creativity as medicine for your daily life and you want to reconnect with
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: that part of yourself I mean the more I made it portable because also of
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: the children
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: and because uh it had to be practical so
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: um and because it has to become a response instead of a reaction as well like the
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: the creative part of myself i wanted i wanted it to be joyful peaceful nurturing
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: and not i and i didn't want it to be delayed like i had this sense of
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: i don't like the word urgency usually yeah but it fits here like it's it's kind of a good
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: urgency because it doesn't it's not i'm saying that because i told a workshop
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: that was called agency over urgency.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: because it's when you have all these demands from the outside world and expectations
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: and things like that but when it's from within it's a good kind of urgency you need
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: to listen to it and so yes
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: um i think i don't know
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: where i was going you see like i'm not you're still making complaints maybe you feel
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: like you're a threat but you
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: but you didn't it's all it's all very all right all right i love the idea
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: of making you know your creative practice portable and and
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: and i think it's really what's made me able
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: to create more this year i create i mean i created my job but uh create websites
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: and i'm a copywriter but i
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: to have my little water coloring practice or whatever now i've tried
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: with pastels soft pastels just it's a mess
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: but it's fine um very messy pastels yeah that's good
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: for letting go actually i have my little basket you know that i can bring
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: in any room that i could so i practice with my son he's making a mess it's fine
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: as well i think for me to choose water coloring as well i'm not good i don't care um
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: because watercoloring i feel i cannot control and
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: so this is letting go practice it's become my mindfulness practice in
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: that moment it's like let's just see what it does you know and if it's
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: if it looks good it's good if it doesn't look good it's good it's just that's not
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: the point um i think it's really really uh effective to have
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: that portable uh quality to to your creativity and i wanted to share something
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: because recently i had this um i
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: um i was i was journaling it was about a month ago it was the new moon i think
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: the latest new moon or full moon i forgot
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: but i i know i usually have bigger realizations around this new moon
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: or full moon that's why i say that and i was making a list i was like wait a minute
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: because there are things i do to cope we all cope life is hard sometimes we need
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: to cope right um there are things i do that i go towards and
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: as coping mechanisms that i think are going to make me feel good or better
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: and it does for a little moment but then i feel quite worse whereas there are things
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: that i don't always think of or i know it exists i'm like oh no
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: because you know it's going to take time i'm not so sure it creates it demands
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: a bit more of my
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: my what my intention i think uh to go that way but it brings
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: good effects on me longer term and creativity is part of that
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: so i mean this is like wait the things i believe are gonna make me feel good versus
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: the things i don't always think of
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: but actually make me feel good i was like okay having you know um uh instance
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: cappuccino for instance it's
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: a very you know it's again it's very instagrammable you have like this cup with
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: the cappuccino oh it's a self-care moment
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: and so i buy this nescafe thing and i but every
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: when i drink it i'm drinking it right now it's great it's very sweet um but
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: then right after i feel like i want to nap and i'm so drowsy and why did i even have
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: that coffee like uh you know whereas that same time of making
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: that cappuccino that's like 10 minutes i can put that into a quick painting
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: and drawing and instantly i'm in the present moment and when i'm doing that
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: i'm not thinking oh is my client going to like the copy i wrote for her
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: and how much money will i make next month like in
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: that moment i'm like is it this carmen or that vermilion i'm choosing for the flower
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: and so i wanted to yes to just share that story with you um is that something
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: that you've had yourself to um
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: that you've experienced yourself or something you teach maybe do you see this experience often?
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: I see it yeah I've written about it I've written about the fact
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: that I remember I was a few months ago I think you can see how creativity
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: and mindfulness practice are linked to me I stopped meditating
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: for like I don't know something like a week I was going through something
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: and it was never and
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: i couldn't be bothered to meditate and when i returned
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: to it i was i thought why did i ever stop away
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: from it that's like just one session i felt so much better and and it's the same
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: with doing a tiny creative thing so i think there are many layers to why we do that
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: and i think one and it's just something on the spot i haven't
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: written or talked about it in this way
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: but i think there's something around uh comfort and discomfort
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: and how we are trained by society i think it's very everywhere to avoid discomfort
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: and and to choose what's gonna bring immediate gratification this one we know
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: with social media but i think it's also everywhere
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: it's not only on social media if anything this is a symptom it was there
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: before i mean even when we were at school for example i grew up i was born in the
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: in 79 and i grew up i was a teen in the 90s it was already there
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: and we didn't have social media so so there's something where creativity is
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: a tiny bit uncomfortable
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: there's a tiny bit of vulnerability same as if you have a journaling practice
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: are you going to pull something on the page you know uh any kind of creative practice
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: if you're a ceramist you never know how it's gonna turn out so that
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: so the brain can be a bit more like let's have coffee because coffee is a sure thing you know
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: it's uh it's always gonna taste the same almost except if you change the kind
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: of milk you put in
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: or yeah so you see so there's something about that so it's and again
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: the thing is not to be like oh i shouldn't be like that
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: it's more to be like oh this is happening that's interesting yeah and so
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: the other thing that i thought
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: when you mentioned uh this story is um ha i forgot maybe maybe it will come back it
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: makes me think
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: of how you know we have bias i think it's connected we have our brain has bias um
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: and change the way to change is to notice that your bias was wrong
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: because you're you cannot continue doing something that you know
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: that is wrong that is just not true you know it's like okay now it's going
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: to take me so much time to open my notebook and sketch something
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: but you actually notice that it takes five minutes and that it makes you feel better
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: the fact of noticing it you're actually telling your brain by experience I was wrong
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: and if you can tell it once you were wrong and actually makes you feel good
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: and actually doesn't you know it's not so hard as you believe it would be
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: the next time is much more easier to make
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: that choice yes this is what yeah thank you for
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: that you read my mind i think sometimes uh we think it's going to take a lot of time
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: to uh take the supply so i think that's why it's very important to have some sort of
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: of system i really am a fan of systems uh either i don't know if even if it's a bag
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: a special bag a special basket a special
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: table somewhere a corner anything uh but there's also the fact that i mean for me
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: I have some sort of devotion towards my creative practice and I want
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: I have this idea of how it should look like when I create so I really had to make
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: conscious effort to move away from that. So the systems they help
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: So that, because we always are doing things in between as mothers,
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: as women, as we are busy.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: And it really moved my art practice forward to be more of,
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: ooh, I have five minutes, I'm going to do something.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: so if I mean
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: you people
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: are interested in this
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: i have a bunch of articles on how to make a portable studio uh all
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: the tricks i'm using all the tools i'm using i really go in depth i have a purse kit
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: that i keep in my purse that i always have and it has a journal a sketchbook
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: and some art supplies it's my most minimal kit but i can do all
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: the things i like doing which are writing and
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: uh drawing but then i have a kit for that is
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: that has more stuff more mixed media more variety
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: so i i've shared uh i think it's nice
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: to prep yourself like you are you are it's like your first aid kit
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: for creative i love it first aid kit
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: for creative i'm definitely stealing this idea i'm going straight into
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: buying little purses to put things like that
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: in my bag definitely is gonna happen i just i just love
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: that idea um marie louise you run live sessions um that you call chats in
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: the atelier is that right um what happens in these chats oh that's
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: a funny story my friend Georgina uh she's on Substack she's a creator too
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: and we were discussing doing lives and i say oh i'm afraid i'm
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: i don't know what
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: to say i don't really like my accent blah blah blah i'm french i love you and
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: and uh
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: and she said do a quiet one so i said okay i'm gonna do a paint with me and
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: then what happened is
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: that i couldn't shut up
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: see again bias you think it's gonna be one way but in fact
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: and so i took it so last last um
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: i try to do it every friday at 3pm and the point of these sessions they are
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: for everyone they are open to everyone is to just do whatever is here
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: so sometimes like i didn't post a replay of that one but the previous one i did
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: a self-compassion practice
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: for creatives it was really really nice it was really nice moment
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: because i damaged one of my paintings taking them to taking them to the frame shop
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: and i have to remake it entirely it's ruined so you know working with all
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: the thoughts and feelings we have about stuff that's very important but
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: then you know i just draw and if i do something and i have something to teach
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: about it or if i'm just making things up
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: and i think it's really nice i really love these sessions and the feedback has been
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: that
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: uh it's a moment where we don't have to take ourselves seriously and also
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: the other thing i thought about your anecdote and making art is when i think and
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: about your topic when creativity is really a medicine is when we disconnect it
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: from any outcome and this this is the purpose
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: of these sessions i'm not sometimes i paint
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: like artwork that is going to go on my shop but doing it in the sessions I really can move away
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: from the outcome aspect of making art or making something. You don't have
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: think who it's for, if you're gonna hang it, if it's gonna be like...I don't know
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: You are making a quilt, you don't have to think about how it will look like.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: and people can just bring their practice some people they just don't do anything
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: but uh i see friends here that sometimes join the the chat in the atelier
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: and i really love these sessions yeah that's wonderful i think i'm you know i've
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: recently decided to work only four days per week so i never work
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: on fridays i think i might drop in i would love that i would love that
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: sounds like a wonderful idea thank you so much for sharing
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: that is there something else that you'd like to share with us maybe a last word
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: of wisdom
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: can I just mention I have a free mindfulness course for beginners
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: for people who would like to try these practices it starts Saturday but there's
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: a replay it's just one hour every Saturday for four Saturdays so it will run until
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: the first of august from this saturday the 11th of july and i will teach about all
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: the basics about posture etc but it's called hope in practice and yeah
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: for me this is the medicine hope and everything i do and i'm writing a book
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: on hope it's a multi-purpose multimedia project and
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: yeah this is it this is what we need like a like a deep breath
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: and thinking yeah we have agency we can do things
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: and creativity it brings you agency it brings it from your creative practice
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: into your life feeling capable and
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: feeling kind to ourselves yeah it's oh that's so empowering to thank you so much
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: for this last i mean to to mention your meditation course but also
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: to this this last message of creativity as a as a practice of finding your agency
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: and how you can also create good in the world i think a lot of us are you know
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: a bit not feeling so good about the state of the world and and sometimes can
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: i know i have a very bubbly side and a very dark side too
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: where i go like everything's lost and we're gonna die and everything is terrible um
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: but i love that image of that idea of hope and that
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: by practicing creativity you remember that you can also create good things
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: in this world and share kindness so thank you so much for
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: that um i'm gonna keep those words with me um definitely
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: thank you for you know giving me the opportunity
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: to say it uh this is really like i keep talking about that i'm very passionate
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: and uh it was such a nice conversation i wish it could last for hours no i know this
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: the feeling in general when i'm having these talks because the point is not
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: to be performative not to be you know it's really like we were having a cup
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: of coffee together
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: and um and discovering a bit of your world so thank you so much for your energy
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: for your time for your wisdom and i'll add all the links of
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: the things you've mentioned in the description of uh this so the replay is available
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: but i will i will share it again with a proper introduction of you and your work and
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: so everything will be in there thank you
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: so much marie louise hey jessica bonne journée à bientôt
