Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Big smiles on everyone's face. Oh, my God.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Taylor and Mikey, I have not seen you this happy
- 0:15Speaker 2: in four or five weeks. Chris Sims is on the
- 0:17Speaker 2: Zoom with us.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Is he wearing a Case Keenum jersey? Sims is with
- 0:21Speaker 1: us now. What is that jersey? Why are you wearing that?
- 0:24Speaker 1: That's Gale Sayers right there. Oh, Gale. Okay, good. Gale Sayers.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I didn't see the four. Did you really think that
- 0:29Speaker 1: was the same as Case Keenum? I didn't see the four.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I figured if he was wearing a Bears jersey today,
- 0:35Speaker 2: it would be in celebration of Case Keenum.
- 0:37Speaker 1: He loves a good backup quarterback. So on my podcast
- 0:40Speaker 1: on Fridays and my show, we do Jersey Friday. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: wear a jersey every Friday so far. So try to
- 0:46Speaker 1: break something new out, kind of like a little– You
- 0:49Speaker 1: know how it used to be, like Little League football,
- 0:51Speaker 1: high school on Fridays, you wore your jersey to work
- 0:54Speaker 1: or school. And I'm doing the same thing. All right,
- 0:57Speaker 1: here's a little one for all of you. I don't
- 0:59Speaker 1: know if I was going to ask Taylor because I
- 1:01Speaker 1: know he won't know, but I would like to know
- 1:04Speaker 1: whether old man Stu Gotts or medium old guy Mikey
- 1:07Speaker 1: A would know this. What is Gale Sayers' nickname? What's
- 1:11Speaker 1: his nickname? Oh, wow, I should know this, and I
- 1:13Speaker 1: don't know it. I'm going to tell you right now,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I don't know it. Kansas comment. Whoa! The young guy.
- 1:20Speaker 1: The monster coming in. Man. Yes. Wait, is Taylor in P.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Diddy's holding cell? Where the hell is he? Are you
- 1:29Speaker 1: with P. Diddy in jail right now? You look like you're.
- 1:31Speaker 3: In jail, like in, like, correctional facility. It is a
- 1:34Speaker 3: sad-looking studio. I'm right across the hallway from Stu Gotts,
- 1:37Speaker 3: where Stu Gotts is.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Damn, I thought you did something. You were
- 1:41Speaker 1: with Diddy in jail or something. No, it's our control room.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's the best we've got around here, okay? We're not NBC. Taylor,
- 1:50Speaker 1: you looked that up or no? Did you? Yeah, hand up.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I looked it up. I thought you did. I could
- 1:55Speaker 1: see you looking at the computer. You cheating son of
- 1:57Speaker 1: a bitch, you. Unbelievable. It's so good to have you back. Unbelievable.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But this is the Kansas comment. Yes, this is why
- 2:04Speaker 1: we smile. Your abuse, we missed it.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Sims, what are we seeing this season? Put all the
- 2:12Speaker 2: off the field stuff aside. I know that's difficult for
- 2:14Speaker 2: this conversation. But Deshaun Watson on the field, what's different now?
- 2:18Speaker 2: as opposed to what we've seen the last time he played?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think one, athletic ability is one thing
- 2:25Speaker 1: I look at right away. I mean, the way he's
- 2:26Speaker 1: moving around, hopping in the pocket, getting out of the pocket,
- 2:29Speaker 1: making some plays with his legs. I do think he's
- 2:32Speaker 1: become more comfortable, and there's more moments of... consistent good throwing. Yes.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Maybe where, you know, in the past you'd go, okay,
- 2:40Speaker 1: that was a good throw, but wait, the next four throws.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And I mean, we saw that on week one, week
- 2:45Speaker 1: one was pitiful. Week two was pretty good. Week three
- 2:50Speaker 1: was kind of like, uh, people thought it was better
- 2:53Speaker 1: than it was. But if you watch the film and
- 2:55Speaker 1: you go, Oh, there was still some ugliness in there.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So it was like in between week one and week two.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But then when we saw last night, again, I think
- 3:02Speaker 1: it's a step in the right direction because, It's not perfect.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong. But it's still, you know, the
- 3:07Speaker 1: ability to make some plays. He's seeing the field better
- 3:10Speaker 1: and better. He looks more comfortable. He looks more comfortable
- 3:14Speaker 1: as a human being. Like the pressure's been taken off.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And what I'll say with the Browns, and I kind
- 3:19Speaker 1: of just said this on my show. Okay. The Browns are,
- 3:22Speaker 1: they got some sneaky, really good young ballers. Yes, they've
- 3:26Speaker 1: drafted well. Yes. Right. Last night, you'd go, I don't know.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I think the Browns got more talented playmakers than the
- 3:34Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers. That's what I would say. I mean, Denzel
- 3:39Speaker 1: Boston's a budding superstar. Casey Concepcion's going in the right way.
- 3:43Speaker 1: The Harold Fannin tight end is about to be up there,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I think, in the Trey McBride, Brock Bowers conversation. One
- 3:50Speaker 1: of those kind of guys. Quinn Sean, Jenkins is a
- 3:52Speaker 1: star at running back. Now they need to open some
- 3:54Speaker 1: holes in the run game more, but you saw even
- 3:56Speaker 1: in the past game, how explosive he is. Denzel Ward's incredible.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Mason Graham's incredible. I'm sorry. He got injured. Jared verse,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know, it was a playmaker. And even though he
- 4:06Speaker 1: struggled at times last night, but yeah, so I think
- 4:09Speaker 1: Cleveland's got that and they got a coach who is
- 4:12Speaker 1: a tough SOB and And I like his offense. It's creative.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So that's what Cleveland and Deshaun Watson got going right now.
- 4:18Speaker 2: How funny is the NFL that Miles Garrett left Cleveland
- 4:21Speaker 2: to go to the Rams to win a Super Bowl?
- 4:22Speaker 1: They're 1-2 and the Browns are 3-1. I mean, it's ridiculous.
- 4:25Speaker 1: It is hilarious. It's hilarious. It's crazy. And September is
- 4:29Speaker 1: just always crazy in the NFL right now. It's hard to, like,
- 4:33Speaker 1: really hone in and go, oh, wait. You know, the
- 4:36Speaker 1: teams are a little all over the place. Guys are
- 4:38Speaker 1: still kind of– you know, getting in football shape. Teams
- 4:42Speaker 1: are figuring out who they are as we go here.
- 4:45Speaker 1: And September is just crazy. It really is. But I
- 4:48Speaker 1: still think the Rams will be there when it's all
- 4:51Speaker 1: said and done, you know, when Miles Garrett gets back there.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And it's big they got Puka Nakua coming back this week. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: no doubt.
- 4:57Speaker 2: PFT with Mike Florio every day on Peacock, the Unbuttoned
- 5:00Speaker 2: podcast as well.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Our buddy Chris Sims is with us. What the hell
- 5:03Speaker 1: is going on with Drake Mack? I mean, yeah. Oh, yeah. Issues. Right.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Issues in big ways, because I've gotten this question a
- 5:11Speaker 1: lot during the week. And I would just go, listen,
- 5:13Speaker 1: like they go, what's wrong with the Patriots? And I go,
- 5:15Speaker 1: it's not the Patriots. The defense has been really damn good.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They've been running the ball really damn good. So there's
- 5:20Speaker 1: none of that. It is Drake May and Drake May only. Now,
- 5:24Speaker 1: you know, one, decision-making has been a huge thing. But
- 5:27Speaker 1: the big thing to me, Stu Gatz, is not the decision-making.
- 5:31Speaker 1: It's the fact that he's throwing the ball like crap,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and he has some mechanical flaws that are affecting his game.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And when you have mechanical flaws and you don't know
- 5:40Speaker 1: where you're throwing the football and you don't trust where
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's going to go when it leaves your hand, you've
- 5:44Speaker 1: heard me say this before, it affects your decisions. Right.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Because you start to go, ooh, you know, if you're
- 5:49Speaker 1: on fire, you just go, oh, he's open by an inch.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I can fit it in there. Let me... I got
- 5:54Speaker 1: all the confidence in the world. I'm feeling it. But
- 5:57Speaker 1: when you're not feeling it and you're off as a
- 5:59Speaker 1: quarterback and you don't trust the control of the football, man,
- 6:03Speaker 1: guys can't get open enough. You can see a guy
- 6:05Speaker 1: open by five feet and you're like, oh, I don't know.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I don't know if I trust him. Let me look
- 6:09Speaker 1: for an easier throw. And as you know, in the NFL,
- 6:11Speaker 1: like only one guy on a play comes open. So
- 6:13Speaker 1: you pass that up and you're swimming up Schitt's Creek there.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So he does have a mechanical flaw. This is something
- 6:19Speaker 1: I kind of broke down yesterday, but you guys can
- 6:21Speaker 1: watch for it this week. I've never seen anybody get
- 6:24Speaker 1: to this position the way he does. I've never seen
- 6:26Speaker 1: a good quarterback. He pulls the ball back, all right,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and he's got a little bit of a looping delivery.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And as he gets to the top, okay, just say
- 6:35Speaker 1: this is the front of the ball that's supposed to
- 6:37Speaker 1: go to somebody when you throw it, right? He gets
- 6:39Speaker 1: to the top. He's flipping his wrist like this, going
- 6:43Speaker 1: like this at the last second and then trying to
- 6:45Speaker 1: flip it back around to throw the football. That's why
- 6:47Speaker 1: the ball slipped out of his hand last week. That's
- 6:49Speaker 1: why the ball is all over the place. That's why
- 6:51Speaker 1: he doesn't throw spirals sometimes. And yeah, I said a
- 6:55Speaker 1: lot of times during this week out of the 32
- 6:57Speaker 1: starting quarterbacks in the NFL right now, Drake May is
- 7:00Speaker 1: throwing the ball. the worst out of all 32, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: that's something they've got to figure out soon in New England.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Wait, Chris, that motion you just described for us, you
- 7:08Speaker 2: showed it to us on the video here, is that
- 7:10Speaker 2: something he wasn't doing a year ago?
- 7:12Speaker 1: No, he definitely was not. This little wrist flip at
- 7:15Speaker 1: the end? Yeah. Absolutely not. So, you know, that's what's weird.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We know how high level he played during the year
- 7:22Speaker 1: last year and almost won him the MVP, but we
- 7:25Speaker 1: got to late in the year, and I know we
- 7:26Speaker 1: had the shoulder injury and some of that, too. But, man,
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's been a long time since we've seen Drake May
- 7:31Speaker 1: play good quarterback play. And that's got to be a concern.
- 7:34Speaker 1: You know it's a concern. I mean, you know, like
- 7:37Speaker 1: Mike Vrabel said, I don't want to talk about it.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I'm worried about the whole– I mean, he's trying to
- 7:40Speaker 1: say everything he can to not make that a story
- 7:43Speaker 1: because they know it's a story in that building.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Chris, now you're hearing rumored riffs between Vrabel and Drake May.
- 7:48Speaker 3: And with Drake May– Josh McDaniels is obviously a great
- 7:51Speaker 3: offensive mind, but is there something to be said for
- 7:53Speaker 3: pairing your franchise quarterback with a head coach whose entire
- 7:57Speaker 3: philosophy is built around maximizing that quarterback style of play?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but I think he believed that he could
- 8:04Speaker 1: do that. I think he took that job because he
- 8:06Speaker 1: thought Drake May could be that guy that we saw
- 8:09Speaker 1: last year through the meat and potatoes of the season.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I do. It's weird. I don't think there's a riff.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Why is there a riff? I don't understand it. Because
- 8:20Speaker 1: he kisses Drake Mays' ass every time he makes a mistake?
- 8:23Speaker 1: He's like, oh, you're okay. I think he's got to
- 8:25Speaker 1: stop doing that. I would just say, let him be.
- 8:28Speaker 1: He's got to figure it out at some point. Yes. And,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, to me, I always struggle with that altogether
- 8:33Speaker 1: because I just go the great quarterback coach combinations in
- 8:36Speaker 1: the history of the football. It wasn't like, oh, oh, here, quarterback. Oh,
- 8:40Speaker 1: my gosh. No, you can do no wrong. Right. You
- 8:42Speaker 1: can kind of talk about that with Vrabel and Jim
- 8:46Speaker 1: Harbaugh and how he handles Herbert. I don't know. I
- 8:49Speaker 1: came from an era where, like, Bill Walsh was on
- 8:51Speaker 1: Joe Montana's ass like he never won a game in
- 8:53Speaker 1: his life every week. Bill Parcells was like, hey, Phil,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you suck. I know you won the Super Bowl last week,
- 8:59Speaker 1: but you suck. Be better. Jimmy Johnson and Troy Aikman.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You look at that, right? I mean, of course, Belichick
- 9:06Speaker 1: and Brady through the years. So, you know, that is, yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: I kind of question the whole approach right there. But
- 9:13Speaker 1: I don't think there is a riff, Taylor. I think
- 9:14Speaker 1: people are just searching for things. Because they can't figure
- 9:17Speaker 1: out what the hell is going on with Drake May.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Chris, is it fair to say that Brock Purdy right
- 9:22Speaker 2: now through three weeks is playing quarterback better than anyone.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Else in the NFL? Well, he's playing as efficient as anybody.
- 9:29Speaker 1: That's for sure. He's been incredible. It is awesome. Yes.
- 9:32Speaker 1: It's incredible. Yes. Now, again, you know what I always say,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and this goes into like, hey, listen, a lot of
- 9:38Speaker 1: people could throw the five-yard curl to the left where
- 9:40Speaker 1: the guy can pitch it to Debo Samuel and then
- 9:42Speaker 1: he runs for 80 more yards. Yes. A lot of
- 9:45Speaker 1: people can throw to George Kittle wide open down the
- 9:47Speaker 1: middle with nobody in the screen like five times in
- 9:50Speaker 1: a row against the Miami Dolphins. I got a lot
- 9:53Speaker 1: of people on the 49ers social media like, Brock Purdy's
- 9:55Speaker 1: the best quarterback in the NFL. And I'm like, stop.
- 9:58Speaker 1: That's where we got to stop putting the team and
- 10:01Speaker 1: the quarterback and combining it and going, oh my God.
- 10:04Speaker 1: He's taking advantage of everything that's there to be had.
- 10:07Speaker 1: He is making some plays off schedule. There's no doubt
- 10:10Speaker 1: about that. But I would also sit here and go,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Shanahan is on fire right now and they haven't really
- 10:17Speaker 1: played a good defense yet either. So it's like, you know, I, again, it's,
- 10:21Speaker 1: it's really good. It's awesome. But I know people want
- 10:23Speaker 1: me to be like, Hey, he's better than Lamar and
- 10:25Speaker 1: Josh Allen. Right. And it's like, absolutely not. And never
- 10:29Speaker 1: will be. So let's just move on. I just said
- 10:31Speaker 1: through three weeks, that's all I said. No, I know,
- 10:34Speaker 1: but I get a lot of that in my, and
- 10:36Speaker 1: this is where, you know, sometimes I look like as
- 10:38Speaker 1: a hater, as a player, I'm a hater on the player. Um,
- 10:41Speaker 1: What I'm just really hating on the comments in my
- 10:43Speaker 1: social media, and I'm hating on those people who are
- 10:45Speaker 1: trying to tell me what's going on. I understand.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Sims, big weekend this weekend in New York where the
- 10:51Speaker 3: Giants are celebrating the 86 championship team with the 40th anniversary.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 3: With Jameis Winston at quarterback, it feels like you could
- 10:58Speaker 3: throw away that first game because of a lack of preparation,
- 11:01Speaker 3: the second game away for the weather. Is this now
- 11:04Speaker 3: the out-of-excuses game for Jameis Winston?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Definitely. I think you're right about that. You're right. He
- 11:10Speaker 1: gets a free pass from the Monday night game against
- 11:12Speaker 1: the Rams. Last week, the weather was so bad. It's
- 11:15Speaker 1: hard to think of what the hell happened. Of course,
- 11:18Speaker 1: the Giants fall apart late and let the Tennessee Titans
- 11:21Speaker 1: back into a game where they were completely controlling it.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I think that We need to see a step in
- 11:27Speaker 1: the right direction with Jameis. I don't think J.J. McCarthy
- 11:31Speaker 1: is brought in here to come in and go, oh,
- 11:34Speaker 1: we want to bench Jameis. It's not about that. It's
- 11:36Speaker 1: about they're protecting themselves in case Jameis maybe doesn't play well.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Or if Jameis gets hurt, John Harbaugh in his first
- 11:44Speaker 1: year of the giant quarter, head coach doesn't want to go,
- 11:47Speaker 1: Jameis is hurt. All right, we're going four and 13.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And now we're going to hear it. Nobody looks back
- 11:51Speaker 1: in history and goes, oh, wait, what was the quarterback?
- 11:54Speaker 1: We're going to go into next year, and if they
- 11:56Speaker 1: lose two games, they were 4-13 last year, and now
- 11:59Speaker 1: they're 0-2, and nobody cares about the quarterback situation. So
- 12:03Speaker 1: he's protecting himself, and then maybe you strike gold with J.J. McCarthy.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Maybe you strike gold in that he can be your
- 12:10Speaker 1: backup next year, the year after. Maybe be somebody that
- 12:14Speaker 1: somebody wants to trade for if he does get some
- 12:17Speaker 1: time in there. And you've got a quarterback in Jackson
- 12:18Speaker 1: Dart who we know plays the game a little crazy
- 12:20Speaker 1: and can get injured with how he plays.
- 12:22Speaker 2: It is time for this week's edition of Studio Gats.
- 12:26Speaker 2: All lines, courtesy of our friends over at FanDuel and
- 12:29Speaker 2: the FanDuel Sportsbook.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Fade me.
- 12:32Speaker 2: That's the only advice I can give you is fade me.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I had a dreadful week last week, but I'm doomed.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Let's start in college here. Virginia Tech taking on Pitt.
- 12:39Speaker 2: They're minus two and a half. I'm taking Virginia Tech here.
- 12:41Speaker 2: They win. They cover Virginia Tech by seven points over Pitt.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Alabama minus five and a half at Mississippi State. One
- 12:50Speaker 2: of the big games this weekend. I'm taking Bama here.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I know everyone loves Mississippi State. They love the quarterback.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I love Alabama. Bama wins. They cover Bama by 13
- 13:00Speaker 2: points over Mississippi State. Ohio State taking on Iowa. Minus 14.5.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Buy it down to 14. Ohio State wins. They cover
- 13:09Speaker 2: Ohio State by 24 points.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Wake Forest. Mikey told me to stop betting against them,
- 13:14Speaker 1: so I'm going to take them.
- 13:16Speaker 2: How about that, Mikey, eh? They're taking on Stanford. They're
- 13:18Speaker 2: minus 13.5. I am taking the Deacs.
- 13:21Speaker 1: They win.
- 13:21Speaker 2: They cover Wake Forest. by 21 points over Andrew Luck
- 13:25Speaker 2: and them boys. Virginia, minus two and a half. They're
- 13:29Speaker 2: at Florida State. Florida State is dreadful. Virginia, sneaky good,
- 13:34Speaker 2: just two and a half points. I like Virginia here.
- 13:36Speaker 2: They win, they cover. Virginia, by 14 points on the road. UMass,
- 13:41Speaker 2: minus five and a half. I never imagined a day
- 13:44Speaker 2: where I'd be telling people to take UMass. We've arrived
- 13:47Speaker 2: at that day. Minus 5.5 over Eastern Michigan.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Take UMass. They win.
- 13:52Speaker 2: They cover UMass by 14 points at home. And finally, Miami.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Minus 16.5 at Clemson. Clemson stinks. Miami might be the
- 14:01Speaker 2: best team in the country. Buy it down to 16
- 14:04Speaker 2: and take the Canes.
- 14:05Speaker 1: They win.
- 14:05Speaker 2: They cover Miami by four touchdowns on the road.
- 14:09Speaker 1: NFL. Bills.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Minus 6.5 over the Patriots. I like the Bills here.
- 14:14Speaker 2: The Bills win.
- 14:15Speaker 1: They cover.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Drake May has forgotten how to play football. I can't
- 14:18Speaker 2: explain it. So the Bills win and cover. They win
- 14:20Speaker 2: by 14 points. The Giants, underdogs at home against the
- 14:24Speaker 2: Arizona Cardinals. Can't figure it out other than Jameis Winston.
- 14:29Speaker 2: They're plus 2.5. Buy it up to 3. They win
- 14:32Speaker 2: the game outright. The Giants win and cover. The Giants
- 14:35Speaker 2: by 3 points at home. The Rams, minus 3.5. They're
- 14:38Speaker 2: taking on the Eagles. Buy it down to 3. The
- 14:41Speaker 2: Rams need this game desperately. I like a really good
- 14:44Speaker 2: team who was desperate. The Rams are exactly that.
- 14:47Speaker 1: They win.
- 14:47Speaker 2: They cover the Rams by 10 points on the road. Ravens,
- 14:52Speaker 2: 11.5 over the Titans. Love the Ravens here.
- 14:54Speaker 1: The Titans can't score. Poor Robert Sala. They just can't score.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Cam Ward's not any good.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Ravens coming off a very emotional victory over Dallas. I
- 15:03Speaker 2: like the Ravens here to win and cover. Ravens by

- 17:20Speaker 4: smart guy, and I tend to listen to you, except
- 17:23Speaker 4: the last few weeks when you told us you were
- 17:25Speaker 4: going to.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Come on and then you didn't. So now I have
- 17:27Speaker 1: to question everything you say. And one of the things
- 17:30Speaker 1: you said is, I'm the only one talking here.
- 17:36Speaker 2: In fairness to Simms, he told me to fuck off, okay,
- 17:38Speaker 2: two weeks in a row.
- 17:39Speaker 1: He did, yes.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I'm questioning everything he says, and then I'm looking back
- 17:42Speaker 4: on it and I go, Isn't this the guy that
- 17:44Speaker 4: told us the Texans have the best defense and they're
- 17:47Speaker 4: going to come out of the AFC?
- 17:48Speaker 1: And I'm looking at them and I'm going, they're 0-3.
- 17:50Speaker 1: What's going on there? Yeah, they're in big trouble. They are.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Their defense is still the number five defense in football,
- 17:58Speaker 1: but it hasn't been like it was last year, to
- 18:00Speaker 1: your point. Not even close. And I talked about this
- 18:03Speaker 1: and broke them down a little bit early in the
- 18:05Speaker 1: week with my show. I mean, one... The offense is pitiful,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and I don't know if there's one receiver in football
- 18:13Speaker 1: that's more important to their team's success than Nico Collins.
- 18:15Speaker 1: When they don't have him, you're just like, all right,
- 18:18Speaker 1: it's just going to be 17 play drives and going
- 18:21Speaker 1: to be ugly as shit all day. That's the way
- 18:23Speaker 1: it's going to be. So, yeah, the offense is not good,
- 18:26Speaker 1: as we know, and defensively is not as dominant as
- 18:29Speaker 1: what we saw last year. And that's where it feels
- 18:31Speaker 1: different than last year. When they started off 0-3 last year,
- 18:34Speaker 1: you were still like, Man, the defense kept them in
- 18:36Speaker 1: every game. Like, they were awesome. Right now, they're tied
- 18:41Speaker 1: or third in football for the most explosive plays allowed.
- 18:45Speaker 1: There's some of that. And, you know, being a little
- 18:48Speaker 1: predictable when I watch them on film, too. Not a
- 18:50Speaker 1: lot of disguises going on that way. Week one, the
- 18:54Speaker 1: pass rush didn't show up. Week two... The defense played
- 18:57Speaker 1: really good against Cincinnati, but the offense shit the bed.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And then week three, it was a little bit, hey,
- 19:03Speaker 1: the offense stunk and the defense had some moments but
- 19:07Speaker 1: still let up some big plays to the Colts. Yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I'm worried about them. I think the Cowboys are going
- 19:11Speaker 1: to beat them this weekend, Mikey. It's over for the Texans,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I think, the way I look at it. And they
- 19:16Speaker 1: need to reevaluate how they approach the offseason because this is–
- 19:20Speaker 1: three out of four years they've started 0-2. That's crazy.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Sims, on the topic of disappointing teams, one of your
- 19:26Speaker 3: best takes, stop paying good quarterbacks like they're elite. When
- 19:30Speaker 3: you're watching this Bucs team and they pay Baker Mayfield
- 19:33Speaker 3: $ 165 million, I know Baker leaves the game hurt, but
- 19:37Speaker 3: his performance has left a lot to be desired the
- 19:39Speaker 3: first three weeks. Is this kind of validating for you,
- 19:42Speaker 3: saying this is why you don't pay him like he's
- 19:43Speaker 3: Josh Allen?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Well, I mean, yeah, you shouldn't pay him like that, definitely. But,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know, he's worth the of what I think they
- 19:51Speaker 1: paid him, I'll say. One, I think Baker Mayfield's a
- 19:55Speaker 1: top 10 quarterback in football for me. He's one of
- 19:57Speaker 1: those guys where you go, you don't just give him away.
- 20:01Speaker 1: You've got a guy here that can lead your franchise.
- 20:04Speaker 1: He's not played well. You're right about that. I think
- 20:08Speaker 1: there's two things that jump out to me about why
- 20:10Speaker 1: they don't play well. One, I've stated on the record
- 20:14Speaker 1: since the offseason, I don't understand why they hired Zach Robinson.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I mean, Atlanta's offense, I hated it last year. I
- 20:21Speaker 1: hated it. I mean, it was pitiful. And the only
- 20:24Speaker 1: two games it was good against were the Bucs. And
- 20:26Speaker 1: it's like that's why Todd Bowles hired him. He's like, hey,
- 20:28Speaker 1: it was good against me. I know the other 15
- 20:30Speaker 1: games it was crap, but good against me. Let's hire him.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And so I don't understand that. And then also the
- 20:37Speaker 1: other thing I'll throw out there to you, Taylor, is–
- 20:40Speaker 1: You know, I do think a little with them and
- 20:42Speaker 1: their wide receiver thing, this is something to watch for. Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 1: they lost Mike Evans. Chris Godwin's getting up there in age.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean, this is what, year 10 for Chris Godwin?
- 20:53Speaker 1: Emeka Abuka, other than those first five or six games
- 20:57Speaker 1: from last year, has really fallen off. And I think
- 21:00Speaker 1: the jury is out to how good he's going to be.
- 21:02Speaker 1: So they don't have the playmakers I think we thought
- 21:05Speaker 1: they would have on that side of the ball. That's
- 21:07Speaker 1: another big factor in this. And then I think, you know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: Baker's been a little bit careless and missed a few
- 21:13Speaker 1: throws that I would say that I haven't seen him
- 21:15Speaker 1: miss before. He should have hit that last play in
- 21:17Speaker 1: Week 2 for the touchdown. That was kind of shocking
- 21:19Speaker 1: he missed that. And, of course, the turnovers in Week
- 21:21Speaker 1: 1 against Cincinnati were pretty crazy.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Chris, I know you have to run, so some quick
- 21:25Speaker 2: ones for you. Mikey, I can't believe I'm going to
- 21:27Speaker 2: say it. Trevor Lawrence is good.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Don't believe it. You're finally vindicated. I'm vindicated, but I'm
- 21:39Speaker 1: not vindicated because I said Zach Wilson was going to
- 21:42Speaker 1: be better than him. I don't know. I'm so torn apart.
- 21:46Speaker 1: But he's good. He's phenomenal right now. And he'd be
- 21:51Speaker 1: a guy that I'd watch for the Under the Radar
- 21:53Speaker 1: MVP conversation, right? Because... One, like I've said, like right now,
- 21:59Speaker 1: Ben Johnson and Shanahan are on another level on offensive
- 22:02Speaker 1: play calling. Liam Cohn would be that next guy down, though,
- 22:05Speaker 1: where I'd go, oh, he's almost on their level, but
- 22:08Speaker 1: he's just below them with like maybe McVay and some
- 22:11Speaker 1: other guys there. But I mean, he's got Trevor Lawrence.
- 22:15Speaker 1: playing with confidence that I've never seen before. And Parker
- 22:19Speaker 1: Washington has entered the top five wide receiver conversation in football. Wow.
- 22:24Speaker 1: He's phenomenal. That's why he turned down $ 25 million a
- 22:26Speaker 1: year the day before the season started. He was like, nah,
- 22:29Speaker 1: I'm going to get 30-plus this year. You watch. I'm
- 22:32Speaker 1: worth 30-plus million. But, you know, watching that game last
- 22:35Speaker 1: week with Drake May and Trevor Lawrence, where, like I said,
- 22:38Speaker 1: Drake May, he didn't want to throw to people. Trevor
- 22:41Speaker 1: Lawrence is so confident right now. I don't know if
- 22:43Speaker 1: you saw his interception he threw, but the guy was
- 22:47Speaker 1: open by like an inch and he was like, I
- 22:49Speaker 1: can hit the bullseye. And he hit the bullseye and
- 22:52Speaker 1: the tight end popped the ball up in the air
- 22:53Speaker 1: and they got intercepted. But to me, that was like, man,
- 22:56Speaker 1: he's got he's feeling it right now. Are the Raiders
- 22:58Speaker 1: for real? Like, for real to be, I think they'll
- 23:04Speaker 1: be a pain in the butt all year. I'm not
- 23:06Speaker 1: going to sit here and tell you I think they're
- 23:07Speaker 1: a playoff team yet. Not yet. But I think they're
- 23:10Speaker 1: a team that will be in that conversation still in December.
- 23:14Speaker 1: The defense is well coached. I don't think they have
- 23:17Speaker 1: enough big-time playmakers. Kubiak is awesome on the offensive side
- 23:21Speaker 1: of the ball. And Cousins is comfortable in that system.
- 23:24Speaker 1: He's been in it with Shanahan and McVay. That's what
- 23:26Speaker 1: Kubiak runs. And when Brock Bowers is in there with
- 23:30Speaker 1: that Trey Tucker and all that, they can design a
- 23:32Speaker 1: few plays every game where I go, ooh, that was cool.
- 23:34Speaker 1: What a play there. So, yeah, I think they're a
- 23:37Speaker 1: pain in the ass. I'm not ready to say they're
- 23:38Speaker 1: back as a playoff team. Not yet, at least. Are
- 23:40Speaker 1: the Jets competent? Yes. Yes. All right, we'll take it. Yes.
- 23:45Speaker 1: The Jets are a pain in the ass. I think
- 23:47Speaker 1: they can upset the Bears this weekend. I'm going to
- 23:49Speaker 1: take the Bears to win a close one, but I
- 23:51Speaker 1: would not be shocked if we're sitting there in the
- 23:53Speaker 1: fourth quarter going, The Jets are up three. Right. Right.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I mean, Geno's throwing the shit out of it. Yes.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson and Kenyon Sadiq are scary. Right. So is
- 24:03Speaker 1: Brees Hall. Yes. And Aaron Glenn knows how Ben Johnson
- 24:06Speaker 1: operates a little bit. You know, those are things I
- 24:08Speaker 1: think that close the gap in the game there. And,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you know, the Bears are going to be feeling themselves
- 24:12Speaker 1: after the Monday night win with Case Keenum and all that.
- 24:15Speaker 1: All right. Last one, Sims. Actually, I have two more.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Just quick ones. All right. You're good. Don't worry.
- 24:19Speaker 2: We do a thing called Think About It Thursday every Thursday.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Taylor asked a great question yesterday. As a Giant fan,
- 24:25Speaker 2: would you be okay if the Cowboys won the next
- 24:28Speaker 2: four Super Bowls if I told you that five years
- 24:31Speaker 2: from now the Giants are guaranteed.
- 24:32Speaker 1: To win one? That is a great question. No, I
- 24:37Speaker 1: would not take that. I would not take that. I
- 24:41Speaker 1: would not. Okay, but you get a Super Bowl, Sims, guaranteed.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I know. You know what? I'd still rather sit here
- 24:47Speaker 1: and go, hey, you know, the Giants, we got two
- 24:52Speaker 1: Super Bowls since the Cowboys have last been in one.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I'd rather do that than go have to hear all
- 24:57Speaker 1: the fake Cowboy fans out there. Oh, we're back, America's team.
- 25:01Speaker 1: That would drive me crazy. No, I'd rather have the
- 25:04Speaker 1: other way around. Is Texas the best team in the country? No,
- 25:11Speaker 1: they're not. I know they're number one. They're damn good.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I think other than the fourth quarter against Ohio State,
- 25:17Speaker 1: they have not looked like the number one team. No,
- 25:19Speaker 1: they have not. To me, I would sit here and go...
- 25:24Speaker 1: I think Georgia is the best team I've seen so far. Miami,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I want to say that as well. It's just they
- 25:30Speaker 1: haven't played anybody. Right. But, yeah, I kind of look
- 25:34Speaker 1: at Georgia and Miami to be the teams that I
- 25:37Speaker 1: look at that would probably play in the best football
- 25:40Speaker 1: as we sit here right now. All right.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I don't want to put you in a bad spot,
- 25:44Speaker 2: but would you feel confident taking Arch Manning with the
- 25:46Speaker 2: number one overall pick in the NFL draft?
- 25:48Speaker 1: No, absolutely but not. There's no way I would feel
- 25:51Speaker 1: good about that. Arch Manning's real good. When I hear
- 25:54Speaker 1: people go, oh, he's the number one pick and this
- 25:56Speaker 1: is a march for Arch, I want to go, are
- 25:58Speaker 1: you watching college football? I don't know. Again, he's clutch.
- 26:05Speaker 1: He had some clutch moments. You guys are watching the game.
- 26:09Speaker 1: There's too many throws where you just go, oh, that
- 26:11Speaker 1: doesn't look right or that doesn't fly through the air
- 26:14Speaker 1: the right way. That's not the best decision in the world. So, again,
- 26:19Speaker 1: really good, but I don't think he's playing at the
- 26:22Speaker 1: same level as some of the other top-tier quarterbacks in
- 26:25Speaker 1: the sport. Trinidad Chambliss, for me, would be the guy
- 26:28Speaker 1: I look at to go, that's the best quarterback. He
- 26:31Speaker 1: can throw it at a level that I just go,
- 26:32Speaker 1: it's special the way he moves. I don't love the
- 26:35Speaker 1: smaller quarterback, but, man, he pops to me the most
- 26:38Speaker 1: on a weekly basis right now.
- 26:40Speaker 2: PFT with Mike Florio every day on Peacock, the Unbuttoned
- 26:43Speaker 2: podcast as well. Final question, AI, Bomani's the only person
- 26:47Speaker 2: who agreed with me on this. You're a conspiracy theorist.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Do you think AI is going to kill us all?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Yeah, the way we're going right now, yes, I do.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Thank you. Yes, so do I. Absolutely do. Will we
- 26:58Speaker 1: make it through the season, though? I mean, what do
- 26:59Speaker 1: you think? Yeah, we'll make it through the season. But
- 27:02Speaker 1: the way we're trending with AI is scary. I mean,
- 27:05Speaker 1: the fact that we're raping the planet's resources to make
- 27:08Speaker 1: sure the servers stay cold. I mean, Aaron Brockovich is
- 27:11Speaker 1: on the case. Like, what the hell are we doing?
- 27:14Speaker 1: What the hell are we doing? Yeah, so, no, it's
- 27:17Speaker 1: all a little scary right now there. Okay.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Check him out, BFT with Florio every day on Peacock
- 27:23Speaker 2: and the Unbuttoned podcast. We'll expand on your thoughts here
- 27:26Speaker 2: on AI next week if we can do that, okay?
- 27:28Speaker 1: I would love to. I have more thoughts, no doubt
- 27:29Speaker 1: about it. Maybe when Taylor gets out of jail, we
- 27:32Speaker 1: can expand on it more. And, Mikey, yeah, you were
- 27:36Speaker 1: way too quiet today. He was. Well, listen, you were
- 27:38Speaker 1: short on time, and he knew it. Yes. Yes. You
- 27:41Speaker 1: were short on time. Get out of here. It's good
- 27:43Speaker 1: to see your face. We love you, Chris. Always good.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We do. Our audience loves you. Don't forget about them, Sid.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I won't forget about it. I love your audience, too.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I'll see you guys. See you, buddy.
