- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the MMGB NFL podcast.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Conor and I can't see who that is over there because of the glare going through the roof of AT&T Stadium Just kidding.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's Albert Brear where when I never use this just shining right on my face.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: You can't even make me out I still think like that's one of the like the that picture of Brady is so like it almost
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: it almost makes it worth the glare for that picture of like the greatest player of all time.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen that one, I'm sure, right?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the god is coming down and bestowing on him the next great NFL announcer.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's getting.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is my weekly coaching fifth grade football moment, but we do have like some fields that don't have, you know, because you're supposed to have
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: The field is supposed to be Northwest Orientation, North South Orientation, right?
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: To avoid the glare, to avoid either team.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: There are some that aren't quite where you deal with that.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we've played a bunch of 630 PM games this year, which means you got it like, right as the sun is going down, you know what I mean?
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure fifth grade or handles that well, too.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the perfect that is.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, at the very least, you get to you get to teach him what
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, it's not so you can look like brave heart buddy.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's there's an actual functional functional useful.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: I know, Jack Jackson Dart is now, you know, and if anybody hasn't seen Jack, Jack Jackson Dart only see out of one eye in those situations.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: And how many old white guys in New Jersey are like telling their sons like, hey, man, that's not what we do with here.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, we, uh, we put it under both eyes just a little bit there, boom, boom, and that's it,
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, but yeah, and that's uh, Jerry Jones thing is hilarious.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Brian Shotheimer already gave a press conference about the glare this week.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to talk about a lot of the glare, but I just, I just keep wanting to point it out for those who don't know and talking about literally.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you play late afternoon game at AT&T stadium because of the orientation of it, you are blasted in the face with someone is.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: And they're talking about all we have screenshots and digital satellite imaging and we're prepared for it.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: bullshit because you can't control these people know what I'm talking about to like most football like and obviously like when you're talking about high school or whatever fields that's different right like because they're not you you don't always have the flexibility to do this, but most football stadiums are built with a North South orientation to avoid
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: that like exactly what's happening in Dallas.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: And for the vanity of that stadium, Jerry Jones instead went the other way and leaned into the sun.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if the sun's going to lose any of those battles.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: the sun is still undefeated.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: So while we were away, or guess or whatever, typical break here between Monday and Wednesday slash Thursday, the Titans made a coaching change Albert, you rattled Titan's Nation by the way.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was on a Titan's pod yesterday and I didn't know that you stepped on a little bit of a hornets nest here and saying that your take was that they,
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: that the root cause of all these issues is much deeper in that firing Brian Kellon isn't going to fix anything I will it could but like it's only going to fix something if they give somebody the time and run way to do the job you know and I think you know this is another one where ownership has become the problem where like and if you can't see it you're not looking because
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is four changes like and substantial changes that are all happening separately.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: In other words like share you are hiring if you were firing head coach and GM if it happened twice in three then that's a lot but not the most unusual thing was unusual about this one is and we can go through the timeline really quick right December 20 they fire John Robinson then January of 24 they fire Mike variable and they promote at that.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: they promote at that point they'd hired ran cars under a place robin send they promote Chad brink of the assistant GM over ran cars on then he after that they fire ran cars on and now they fire Brian Callahan so it's just a lot of change over the course of i think it's thirty four months if you count it up and like i i think what most people who've been around me at him struck with tell you she does not like being embarrassed now that's the way a lot of billionaires are sure they don't like being embarrassed
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but she, it's, it's another case, I think, in this day and age of, like,
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: It is hard to avoid criticism if you're an NFL team because of the spot like this on every one of them and how every day like the state of your organization is litigated right and you need to have strength to fight through those things and they haven't shown that strength so like I'm not saying again like did all these things have to happen maybe, but like let's just like look at what happened here over the course of time right.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: So they fire John Robinson.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's no coincidence that was two days after AJ Brown went off on them.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: So they fire John Robinson.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: So Amy, Amy, Amy, Adam, a strong cast her pound of flesh to bring back to the fan base like, hey, like, we got you.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: So then they hire and carve under a place of a month later.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: They give Mike Vrable a ton of personnel power at that point and
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: They go with that for a year after a year they feel like Mike has taken the building and turned it into like this is like my people my way my people she doesn't like coming into work every day now so a year after you've leaned into my variable
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: you don't like the way that Mike Frable is making the building feel you don't like walking into the building on a day to day basis you feel like your business people maybe some of the other people involved aren't as happy and so now you pull the plug on Mike Frable and say we need a total organizational overall right for then you promote Chad
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: So then you have the worst team, so then you hire Brian Callahan, you have the worst team in the league last year.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now somebody has to pay for that, so you fire in Carthon, right?
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's like after all the noise, and I don't think it's a coincidence that a lot of like that, a lot of family members were in the building and Vegas over the weekend, right?
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is when you pull the plug on Brian Callahan.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I'm not saying in a vacuum it was wrong to fire John Robinson.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was wrong to fire Mike Brable.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was wrong to fire Brian Kallahan.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: It was wrong to fire Ray and Carthon, but this is how organizations wind up being rudderless I can say I think it was wrong to fire John Robinson and Mike Brable.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, imagine where they would be, well, I think just a lot of both of them, you know, I mean, well, here's the thing like so I look at like I went back and looked at this earlier in the week.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, like, let's just look at like the body of work for John Robinson and Mike Frable Relic.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's crazy.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: They won two games in 2014.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: They won three games in 2015.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: That was what John Robinson was walking into.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: John Robinson also inherited Marcus Mario to as a second overall pick.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: So he had no choice and who his quarterback was going to be.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: John Robinson had winning teams as first six years in a row in charge there despite the fact that Marriota didn't work out that he had to find another answer at quarterback without having a high pick to use on it right so he took a team that had won five games in the last two years combined that had been five and twenty seven over the last over the two years previous and immediately started reeling off winning seasons.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: He hired Mike Vrable.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Vrable comes in in the third year of that.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Vrable is first year wins nine games.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: They just missed the playoffs.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: His second year, they go to the FC title game.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's third and fourth years, they win the division, right?
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is what Ryan Tannahill at quarterback.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then that core that they had a tail over the lawn and Kevin biored and and Jeffrey sim like a lot of that core starts to age out and as that core ages out right okay like now you know you hit the skids a little bit but even then.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: They won seven games in six games and like in Mike Frable's last two years.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I, it still wasn't a train rack.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Was it as good?
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, but
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: had those guys done enough to merit the chance to rebuild it if 100% right and you can say that there was some friction between Robinson and Freyburn.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to argue with you on that, but that's isn't that the owner's job to manage that?
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's the owner's job to manage it and friction.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, friction can become passive aggressive and it can become cancerous or whatever you want to call it, but at the same time, like, friction's good.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you want to have a healthy discussion about players.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look at what was it like part of the problem is like, she's not there day to day.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: So she's coming in and wanted to twice a month into the office.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: and sounds like me.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm walking into the off.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: I live in Texas.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going into the office in Tennessee.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this, I, I don't like the feeling of the building.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like the building.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, like, do you have the full context of that?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, you don't, because you're not there every day.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're talking to people on the business side, or there's somebody that maybe doesn't like my favorite.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: But if your point of context is like you're talking to two or three people,
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: uh... on a consistent basis and that person happens to not like the very competent people that you've put in charge it's just it's almost like i i don't know i mean like i i look like i've heard she's moving to tennessee soon and maybe some of this changes but i do think like this requires a look in the mirror
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: This requires her taking a hard look at what she's done here.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I think empowering Chad Brinker and Mike Borganzi now and saying, it's your show.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: You got three years I'm not touching it.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because clearly like this, we've criticized what he John's in last year and rightfully so for reacting to what's happening on Twitter,
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think that sort of again, maybe not specifically Twitter, but like the same sort of thing like where it's like, I'm embarrassed by the state of my franchise, I've been humiliated in front of my family members, I like I need to do something.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and part of being an owner is being able to withstand, like, people making fun of you on social media.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: And again, like, I'm not saying Cali would have dug them out of it, but I can tell you this.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, people in that building, like, had basically come, like, a couple of weeks ago, it was,
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's this coming to an end at the end of the year, probably, but it doesn't do us any good, like, doesn't do us any good to to go to an interim coach here, right.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: We're probably going to lose a bill of Cali and if we lose Brian Cali and so we lose a great offensive line coach in an area that we're trying to rebuild.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think they'd sort of made the decision like it makes more sense to write it out anyway.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: So like, it's not toxic.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: The players like Callahan, maybe they're not responding to him, the same way, but they like him.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just don't know what the benefit of doing this is and maybe we'll find on Sunday, they go out and they beat and I don't think that part of it can be ignored either, right?
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like who they're playing on Sunday.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: They want the intern bump from Mike Raeble coming to town, right?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, like, essentially, it's like, it's harder to say, like, we'll look at the state of your franchise, what a mess.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: And you hired all the wrong people when you have an intern make code.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: When you've been in the firm, right coach, when you've already sort of taken steps to rectify your previous mistake.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I, it's just, I don't know.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I, I like, like, again, like, this is going to come off as a defense of, of all those guys who got fired,
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if she knows what she's looking for.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what I think is there's a couple interesting things from this and then I want to spin it forward and kind of get your your short list because I made one I tried to make a short list and ended up being a long list.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: But when you have 11 weeks to hire a coach it should be a long list should be an expansive list of of coaches that you're looking for.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: was the fact that Bones Fossil who you was an intern at Coach for the Rams, when we were playing.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: And special teams was always the go-to for elevating an intern because it was perceived that almost like, you know, you're not that you have less to do, right?
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a police disruptive course.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but now we are in this like special teams upheaval right and specialty I would argue that special teams coordinators have one of the hardest jobs now in the NFL and so you can't just, you know,
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: you can't just elevate the special teams coordinator anymore.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now Mike McCoy had head coaching experience made a lot of sense.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: He was on the roster too, anyway.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I just thought that was interesting.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I do wonder if we see that happen throughout the year, if teams will continue doing that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because again, like, special teams coordinators are under water right now, man.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is like a historic season for kick blocks, returns, like kickoffs.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they need all the time that they could get.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, and like the normalization of like the 60-yard field goal which has been in is like it's just it seems like As much as we were going that direction to begin with that's just accelerated now like I can't remember ever seeing like a 55-yarder Be so routine you know what I mean We're attempting the more that more regularly than at any time in in League history Is that right?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, subscribe to the magazine because we might have something about that coming down the pike
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: My short list, and so I texted a bunch of people.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: I was really, really quick, like I'm a coi.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: I do think one thing is interesting is what this whole name for Cam Ward.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just say this, like I think his experience with different types of quarterbacks, going all the way back to JAPAN, Carolina, Payton, Payton, Manning, Tim Tibo.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's like worked for the wide variety, Phil Pervers, wide variety of quarterbacks.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think Mike is going to let Cam be himself.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there's going to be an element of
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just, if you don't see it fast, just go make a play.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're gonna see an exciting version of Cam Ward.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: At least on Sunday, and we'll see what it looks like going forward.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: Football season is in full swing and underdog is the best place to get in on all the action.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: Playing on underdog is easy.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like rushing yards, receptions, touchdowns, and more.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: This week on underdog, I'm a big Joe Flacco guy.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: Love the fact that he's coming back to,
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Rescue this Bengals offense, play the best game of quarterback the Bengals have seen all year.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going higher on 1.5 touchdowns for my guy, Joe Flacco, and the Bengals this weekend, download the app today, sign up with promo code MMQB to score $100 in bonus funds or entries when you play your first $5.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's promo code MMQB.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: Underdog.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: Make picks win money!
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: I texted a bunch of people when we saw the news and just like, hey, you put on your short list now.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: And the two the two names that I got back almost immediately were Matt Nagy, offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs and Artsmith, the offensive coordinator of the Steelers.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: Art obviously provides a lot of familiarity, was with the organization for a long time, ran an offense that really retrofitted that LaFluir offense for Derek Henry and because what?
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, LaFluir was, I'm not saying LaFluir was bad, but they were in the 20s offensively.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then Art Smith had them as like a top five offensive team for a couple years before we went to Atlanta.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think his tenure in Atlanta can now safely be looked at with a little bit of a different perspective.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, when you had to try to do that with Desmond Ritter and you're still winning seven games year.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think that's I do think with other there's Smith, the one thing I would say that I think is important context on on on Arthur and what happened in in Atlanta was, um, hey, he was more or less told.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: that he would have time to go handle the quarterback situation.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: And them going with Desmond Redder was in 23, right?
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: In 23, which was his final year.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Was actually strategic.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: And they got there in 21.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: There was the one year they had to run it back with Matt Ryan.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what we can do with it, right?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think what's interesting is, if you look at his decisions there, in 22 and 23,
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: He was right, not to take a quarterback.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: That class, like, there was no one there, right?
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: That was when they got rid of it in the third round.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that was pick it in the first round.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: That was, I mean, unless you want to blame them for not taking Brock Perti in the seventh round, like, there was no answer there, right?
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then in 23, like, the, do you trade what it would have made more sense for them to trade up for Bryce Young?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe CJ Stroud, you look at it that way.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but where they were picking, like, I mean, they're in range to make a run at Anthony, we're just in that wouldn't have done anything.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, right, like, if what Arthur Smith, what, what Arthur Smith was doing was, like, and his strategy there was like, don't overreach for the quarterback in the first round, build the team up and then when the right guy comes along, go, like,
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: that's where they were.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely wound up.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: Do they wound up taking one in 24?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like so like I think the rug got pulled up and this is another ownership thing but the rug got pulled up from underneath him when he was building the team up.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that that's the context there.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think either of those guys would make sense.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're missing the most obvious one and I missed the most obvious one earlier in the week two.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: that's my McCarthy.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what that was the pushback that I got.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: Was that my common sense one like that's that that's a common sense like he will if you're looking for somebody to come in and just stabilize it you know what I mean like I think he might be the one.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: think that makes sense.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: What's interesting to me, though, is that, I mean, this is a big cam question, right?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying that Mike is, please don't think that I'm saying that Mike is not a developer of quarterbacks.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mike is a great coach of quarterbacks.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: He did, though, have the benefit of going far Rogers,
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: But he goes out for Rogers and he, but he had a hand in developing Rogers for sure, right?
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: I would say that what was interesting to me in talking to some of the Packers players who went from McCarthy to LaFlor was just how kind of
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: retrofitted that offense was, and I guess it was retrofitted obviously to Roger's skill set, but like, those guys weren't doing like, you know, dynamic, run fake blocking.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't doing a lot of that stuff.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was like, hey, our quarterbacks can drop back and sling it, and you guys got a hold on, and they were getting their asses kicked.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that offensive line was banged up and miserable.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so I do think that like, when you, when you run an offense, like,
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean Bruce Arians made a career out of this so I'm not saying that it's and he was a great coach who happened to coach a lot of great quarterbacks and I think that's different than someone who just runs ramps into one good quarterback and then you know doesn't have success anywhere else and then I don't know ends up at North Carolina or something like that who knows, but um,
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think that I'm not saying that Mike's one of those guys there is there's like a fervor for McCarthy in Nashville right now that I just didn't expect that if I'm being honest like I think it's a surprise night.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's because they just want like some level of normalcy.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: you know what I mean like I mean but it's that really which you but like is that really what you want you know what I mean like is that like okay so I think I think if you if you've dealt with what they've dealt with like lots of years like I don't even there's some element I'm just like wanting to have a football season you know what I mean like just like I like I like he'll get you to a level where
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you could have a, you'll be, your team will be relevant to November and December, you know what I mean like the very least.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, like, I just, I would say this.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think just knowing what I know about Brinker and Vorgansi, who will run the search by the way, my understanding is there will not be a search from involved in this one.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: I,
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: My sense is that like they will lean towards experience, like I don't and and to be fair, like the, you know, like Matt naggy is has experience, right?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like Arthur Smith has experience.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: So those guys check that box, too.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think McCarthy's in that mix as well.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he's got the relationship with Brinker from Green Bay.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think like that, those, those guys, like our, our sensible names, we could talk about some of the wild cards, too, if you want.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: So here's, here's the couple I don't see them doing, here's what I don't see them doing, here's what I don't see them doing, I think I see they're gonna be a guy who's been ahead coach before our next player.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: one of the other.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I had asked you brought up Eddie George.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: And here's so here's the interesting thing about Eddie George.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I was talking to some coaching folks and, you know, college isn't an upheaval right now, right?
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: With James Franklin getting like, oh, the UCLA job open, you know, all that kind of stuff, right?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it seems like the the common
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: The thread here is we're going to swing for the fences and try to get Marcus Freeman or Mike Elco or one of these three big guys that you know top five guys and if we don't the next pivot is
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: Dude who just gets people fired up right and that could be a like a deal on Sanders type where it's a former player like an alum like someone who gets someone excited that way It's like the quote unquote energizing of the program right right or like you know right now like
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you're UCLA, how good would it look to just, I mean, at this point, just hire John Gruden, like he would do it, you've come in coach and, you know, your program, but at least have some semblance of an identity, you know, and I mean, and so I think that the same thing.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: kind of holds for Tennessee, where, I mean, Mike McCarthy's going to have his options.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he probably could have had a job if he wanted it last year with the way that everything shook out.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: And kind of pulled himself out and wanted to wait for it.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: And coaches like Nashville, it's an easier media market.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit wider.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: But if there's fear or concern, what's that?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Tax-free.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: and let's say the titans kind of struggle in that regard.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Eddie George makes sense because it's like college where in the absence of getting your obvious guy, you can get a program energizer, you know?
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, and I think that's like, you know, one thing with Arthur Smith, like that we, you know, didn't mention is like that knowledge of ownership and like complicated family dynamics is a positive, you know, I think that's really important.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a piece of like managing any of these jobs is like your ability to manage up in your ability to manage your bosses.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it'd be an important one in this case, like I think that that was one advantage like.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: like Jason Garrett had Dallas for all those years, right?
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like he knew how to manage the Joneses.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that piece of it's important.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: The name that there's another name that I can't get out of my head that would be like a huge swing.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I just look, I sort of, I'm intrigued by and that's Davis Webb.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, Davis Web is on my list, baby.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's part of the three musketeers that I have there.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's just because if you've been around him and you've spent some time with him, he sort of screams Nashville, yeah, for sure.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like somebody from Nashville.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: I know he's from Texas, but I just think, I think he's somebody who,
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: is like who played the position, who's going to help you maximize your own quarterbacks.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the other piece of it, and Maggie and Arthur Smith, and Mike McCarthy, obviously, all worked with quarterbacks too.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's going to be a big piece of this.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: And you look at like, again, Brinkland, Borgansi, and their background, and who they had their most successful as well.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they were with guys who coach the quarterback, with Borgansi, it was with Andy Reed and Kansas City.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: Davis Webb is kind of an interesting one because I think he's a he's a rising star who's going to get a lot of buzz over the next couple of years.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, my question would be, can they take that swing after they took a swing on Brian Cowland?
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Brian though, I don't think was a swing.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: That was a guy who was baked long enough in the oven and I came out ready to go.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: That was like your, okay, offensive coordinator spent a couple of years, made a super bold developed quarterback like you know, but I think that there's I think that there's
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: Just based on their style, I think there's some similar, some Davis web, Kevin O'Connell, similar.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I agree with that.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I looped Davis web into a grouping of three really young coaches.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: And that's great, you didn't ski from Jacksonville and that's Declan Doyle from Chicago.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: And Declan at one point was, I think the youngest position coach in the history of the NFL and has rose in very quickly.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: heels are at the right hand of very good play callers and it's one of those situations where you think back to every team that hired a coach the year that McVay came out and the next year they were like, oh, we were going to wait one more year to get to let him get ready.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes it's just like, effett dude, like just, just right, because it's a disaster than who cares, you know?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams, like that was the Rams whole approach was like.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: And with Wade Phillips, right?
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, when the Rams hired Sean, it was like,
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: that was more it's it's interesting because I remember talking to those guys after it was like well like maybe he isn't ready you know and this was without the context of what he would do maybe he isn't quite ready he's like but he's really impressive and he was going to be hired next year if it didn't happen this year so we were never going to get a shot at him again right either hire him now or you're not going to get him you know which I think like
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: there are certain guys who and Sean is a kind of a unique guy and that like every interview he got, he was gonna crush, you know, and he was gonna get a job.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think Davis is the same way.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Davis could wind up being that guy too.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like I just, I don't know, I think he's, I think he's got that magnetism to him, the presence, and then obviously the football acumen.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: Again, like I think like if you're looking like for your next Kevin O'Connell,
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they're, I think there's a lot of that there.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: My wild card, because, you know, I'm a big Notre Dame guy.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think Marcus Freeman's gonna make the rounds this year.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: I know that you've always been an advocate for Ryan Day, but with those nipple piercings out, but I just don't think he's gonna be able to get, you know, a team to take him seriously.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now we're at Ryan Day, gonna bring Matt Patricia with him, which is suddenly a massive class.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: We have a big game against us.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: We have a big U.S.C.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: game this week.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just a little nervous.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: I actually, like, in chapter, chapter 573 of me feeling old, I did see this morning that yesterday was a 20th anniversary of the Bush Bush.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: I know, which is just crazy.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was in high school.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was watching it with one of my best friends in my bedroom.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I threw a bottle of colon at the wall.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's my first year covering the NFL.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: What a bummer.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: Sure was a game was.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm sure it was a very sophisticated column that you were throwing a curve.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: Curve man, every boy smelled like curve from like two from like 1996 to like 2008.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: And it was disgusting.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was like a, it was like a,
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's like one of those industrial, like toilet cleaners that you get from the grocery store, but apparently everyone thought that it was good that we smelled like that.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Then I pivoted to Abercrombie fierce.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's when it really took place.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: Abercrombie, Abercrombie, Cologne, was popular when I was in high school.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: So if I were to get the height of, I think I was high school college at like the height of Abercrombie.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what a time to be alive.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: It just all made sense back then.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's in general.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: According to several documentaries, we were a very distrable generation.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: So my, we were like the gaps.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: See, I'm a, I'm part of the greatest generation, which is like between generation, ex-emilineals.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's no real world kind of in this gray area.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like an honorary member of that.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't behave at all like a millennial.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like I'm a millennial camp, though.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm firmly in the millennial camp, but I've applied for citizenship in the camp.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: In the camp.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just because I don't identify with...
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think somebody, somebody wants like, I heard somebody call us Xenials.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Have you ever heard that Xenials?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: I could do that Xenials.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think without that's where it was.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: I worked in X. I worked in hard.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I said I worked too often in too hard.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't really identify with the one of the most logical generation for sure.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I'm more at home there.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Albert, I both written about the Titan situation head over to si.com for more.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, I think if you add Mike McCarthy to that list that I have,
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: I could almost guarantee that the person who gets that job is going to be on that list.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think I can make a hard guarantee that that list, plus Mike McCarthy, will contain the future head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: So read it, check it out, let us know.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: Just going to just really quickly spin through this weekend.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is a little bit of a mind field.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: This is like the, you know,
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: season season three episode like nine and it's an 18 episode season.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so this is like the middle episode where they stretch out some needless romance that doesn't go anywhere.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: In the NFL because we have like what Saints Bears Dolphins Browns Patriot Titans Raiders Chiefs Eagles Vikings Panther's jet.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're just not a lot of there.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: there, but I think part of it is the consciously stacked the front of the front of the schedule, you know what I mean?
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, sure.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember thinking like week one, like, whoa, like this looks really good.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: And that was all intentional, you know what I mean?
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and so
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're in that, like, kind of, whole between, between, like, not to get too technical here, but like, a whole between the start of the season and then sweeps, right?
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, which is sweeps is when they have the television ratings are important, because that's how they set advertising rates and all that.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: So we're not in the sweeps yet, I don't think.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Which is why I think the schedule is a little less attractive now.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Man, there's everybody's got a boss on the league's office bosses of the networks.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody does have a boss.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: So give me one.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, go through kit.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to say this.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say this.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say this.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do before you do.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: Before you do.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: Buck in your lines is Monday.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: I know that we will talk about that.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: We will talk about that Sunday Monday.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: So that's obviously the game of the weekend.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's absolutely no question about that.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: Buccaneer's Lions at Ford Field got a little heat by the way from our pal in Tampa, who took Umbridge with me having Tampa Bay at number two in the power rankings.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: Just so you know, I'm that after they're they're using that as motivation, so they're going to be ready to go.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I'm intrigued.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, well, well, let's let's just go back and forth.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: What games were intrigued by.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm intrigued and you say you're intrigued.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm intrigued by cults, chargers because this is the cults going back across the country.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, yeah, well, the 80 Mitchell game was three weeks ago.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, like they're, you know, their second game in 22 days or whatever, it would be so fine.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I, like, I think this is an important that the chargers have slid a little bit now.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Alt has in practice yet and that's very clearly a problem for them, but they were able to scratch out that wind against the dolphins on Sunday, which I think showed some guts, right?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: And they blew the lead and they come back.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think you saw some some toughness from Jim Harbley's group there.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: I personally think like their offensive line issue is one of the underrated storylines of the early part of the season.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think and I think I said
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: The them losing Joe Alt and Roshan Slater would be like those old Giants teams like losing Justin, talking OCEM and you are a Michael Strayhand all at once.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the person now, because the personality of the team runs through that group, you know.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: So can the, can the, can the chargers find a way?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: to win that game.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: And for the colds, like this is an important game that could affect seating where you should win.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: So can you do it, right?
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: Can you go across the country and deliver a win against a good team that's wounded, right?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that one's really interesting and intriguing, and I'm excited to see what Jesse Minter has cooked up for Daniel Jones
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going with so I will say this I mean and it sucks I've been on a crusade for a while and I've been shouted down and because now apparently there's important critical primarily games that are played in the United States so that's not a trade-off.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: I would have asked for but like Rams Jaguar's belongs at like 4 p.m.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: on CBS and is at 9 30 in the morning in Wembley for some reason and like Liam Cohen vs. Sean McVay I mean
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it maybe won't be, you know, because the Ram's offense is a little bit more calculated and controlled and so it's not necessarily one of those like it's going to be a 40 40 game, you know, some blowout shootout or whatever, but I'll say this like I wish that game would have been in an hour that
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: because I have to watch the lending games at like six o'clock at night.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: We have, you know, my daughter is Sunday school.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: So can't can't be it.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: Gotta do it.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's a holy community in your Albert.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like I can be, you know, and if you if you pull the phone out at church, you get you get in trouble and eternal damnation.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the Carson Wentz revenge game, possibly.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I mean, how bad are the Eagles, right?
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, how much of a skid are the Eagles?
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: Is this kind of a, is this sort of a traffic jam kind of game for them?
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's a weird spot for the Vikings for sure, like based on where they are and, you know, like the JJ McCarthy situation.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm with you on that one.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I, I also, I will say, like that one.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Eagles, you know, I do, I do radio with Bobby Carpenter on Thursday morning and so we were talking, we do like this whole, you know, like sometimes just start talking about something and like the light will come on, you know, like, oh, like this is what I think on this, you know what I mean?
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so that happened for me this morning on the Eagles.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is like an interesting test of like the makeup of this year's team, because I think the problems that they've had over the last few years in between their sewer voice years are really just endemic to how they're built.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like they have this star set of roster, big personalities, big ego, it's right, and this is sort of the price you pay, it's like when things are going great, then you'll click an absolute machine.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: right but then when you start to hit some bumps and the ego show up the personality show up and i think that part of it to me at least that part of it is fascinating because you know now you're dealing with a self-adj brown and you had some stuff with jail and Carter earlier in the year and there's just like a lot to manage there and they've got a coach who's great at it.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Seriani is phenomenal.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: Evidenting all of that stuff.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but we did see it go the wrong way a couple of years ago, you know, so this is like real gut check time for them going on the road against a good Vikings team having lost two games in a row, um, you know, and really, you know, even like a couple of weeks before that with the Rams and bucks like where.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: There were a lot of moments of shakingness and those games, how they started against the Rams, how they finished against the box.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: Can they put a whole game together?
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they haven't done it since week two against the Chiefs, you know?
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah?
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm with you on that one.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I would say the other one, the next one that I'm intrigued with, is Chief Striders.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: And this is why.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Chiefs are going like this.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think the chiefs are about to jam their foot on the gas and go that's why put the number one in the power rankings that I got in trouble and they're with who the john come down on you for that Mitch who who is the who is the who is the traffic up on that one the GM of the buck and ears Anyway Anyway, so but the chiefs I
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: If you've talked to people there, you know how much they think of Russia, you write this a player.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: I, like, the reason I'm intrigued by this one is is this like the 42 to 3 statement game.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it could be.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the one where it's like holy crap, here they come.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_00]: My home is just playing better than people are giving them credit for.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: Way better.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: My home is just playing really good football.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: for the first time in a couple of years, a stable and stable to the point where they could deal with a Josh Simmons thing.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and they're receivers, like I feel like they've got a decent mix now, or Shardis Smith is going to be an interesting piece for them going forward as a kind of like a hybrid who played both positions in college.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: Pecheco is a bigger part of the mix again.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: And now you add who they think is their best skill player back into the mix.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: I just think like the chiefs.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: There is a chance that this is like the game where they announced to everybody, like we may not lose again this year.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you can put that and maybe I'll look like a more on in three weeks, but no I totally agree with you and that's why I mean even a three and three I put this team at number one in the power rankings.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: You could see it You could see the breadcrumbs for the last couple weeks and even that Jacksonville game that they lost
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was not, it wasn't.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there was a lot of the pixel moments where you're like, okay, this is actually working.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: And for some reason, like, Kelsey's looking like a little younger to me, like looking a little bit more spray.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, it's just how like showing up in the numbers necessarily, but he looks, it's weird.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it almost like you can see that he looks like he's in better shape.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I, I don't know why, but it, it feels like
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I hate to say it, but when you have those moments like where one of your players gets punched in the face at the end of the Lions game, that are galvanizing moments for you, you know?
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that you can rally around.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like there wasn't this
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, it's what the Patriots always lacked, right?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'll never forget the being in the gosh, was it the year that they beat the Rams?
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I was at the in the interview room after the Super Bowl and Kyle Van Noye is like, and no one in this room believed in us.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, everyone in this room believed in you.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: Every single thing that I've ever seen.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: freaking person in this room picked the Patriots to put in the Super Bowl like it was and we joke about this all the time, right?
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was like the fake national media quotes that Mitnik Sabin used to drop in the height of the Alabama dynasty, right?
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's always rhyme like really funny when I can't remember what it was, but he like he created some like total straws.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: It was just a completely, and he just attributed it to national media, it was like a person that just covers the college football for USA today named National Media.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, no, you know, and I think that at some point you do lose that, it's natural.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not attributing this one thing or another, but it's like dude, you tie it in.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: One of your offensive.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is like married to the most famous person in the world like Patrick Mahomes is already the great probably the second or third greatest quarterback and NFL history like the You won all these two super balls in a row.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: You almost three peded like yeah, like it gets a little bit hard to to to find that
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: inside animal instinct a little bit and, you know, nothing like just Brian branch coming out and jacking you up to kind of kickstart the heart a little bit.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I could use that.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a little tired today.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: If someone wants to come over and punch me in the face, I can probably get some of these stories over our philosophy and being punched in the face again if you want.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always willing to offer that up.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, what more for me?
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, let's just, you know, Johnny's Broncos in four o'clock.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, just keep it rolling, right?
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Giants Bronco, like this is another one.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like I would view this maybe a little bit like that Chiefs Raiders game where it's like the Broncos have a chance to after like a phenomenal defensive performance against the Jats.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, put the offense on, you know?
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, like now what do they look like coming out of this?
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: Giants would be traveling cross country.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's the first time this team collectively has had to, I mean, it's a lot of young kids playing at my Ohio high for the first time, you know?
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think that's a big deal.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: Can we get like a little, uh, get a little excited for Panthers, yets, too, maybe?
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I, like, I feel like that's like the Panthers.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like, I mean, they're going to be foreign.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be foreign three.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: This is the first time.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we looked at it.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I looked at it.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: But they've been over 500 since.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, did we look this up the other day?
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was that rule, right?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, Matt rules second year.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: They started three and oh, and then like, lost seven straight or something like that, right?
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: I, I have to know what I've learned in four years.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: I need to pause.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I need, because I have a, I have a habit of getting taken away by stuff and, and excited about stuff.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: This can't be, I mean, what is it?
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's cowboys, dolphins, and jets, like a three game winning streak, and now the falcons when certainly looks better in hindsight.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: Um, especially the manner in which it happened.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so maybe at some point here, I mean, that defense, I will say like Derek Brown is a man eater and they're they're shut down the run game with just like four guys in the box.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: How about this today.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: This day today.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: is the anniversary, the four-year anniversary of the last day the Panthers were over 500.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, because they lost on October the 17th, 2021, and over time to the Vikings to fall to three and three, and they have not been over 500 since.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: So October 16th, 2021, were the last day that the Carolina Panthers finished over 500.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: Here we go.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_00]: Four-year anniversary is two-day Connor.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you Wikipedia for helping me look that up.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: We had AI first.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: It was Wikipedia and I'll never like my kids now when I'm like 60 they're going to be like dad why you're still using Wikipedia.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be like an old person using an encyclopedia right now.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: But stick with it and then like you know just kind of like for for entertainment purposes like the last three minutes of Patriot's Titans could be entertaining to
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll see if, uh, Frable as any, uh, salt for the old franchise, waiting in his pocket.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm right Albert.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well, then I think I think that though to it's just before we get out of here, I do think like Bears and Falcons are two teams that I, that I kind of have my eye on a little bit this week too, right?
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think the winner of that game takes off.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: Starting to show signs of like, yeah, of can they, like, can they make it?
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: So the Bears play his Saints.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: So bears should win that game, right?
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: So can the bears get to four and two?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, all of a sudden, are they a real threat in the NFC North?
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then the Falcons go to San Francisco on Sunday night against a team that is just impossibly beat up, right?
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: And so can the Falcons, for the second straight week in prime time, against like an established program,
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: Canary he Morris, Michael Panics and the Falcons announced themselves as a real contender.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Look out Jason Light, here they come.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: Here they come.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: Bucks it too.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was good enough.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: I just got on the good side of Joe Bucks fan too.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: I have you there.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_00]: They I mean Baker's got to be our MVP at this point, right?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Baker's obviously the MVP.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so there you go.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like Daniel Jones said it doesn't matter because it's only six weeks into the season.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: Although I think the bucks will be there at the end of the year.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: I promise I really do at some point they'll be never one in the power rankings as long as the chiefs don't hang.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: Bucks lines unbelievable Monday night game.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, ESPN must have gotten on the right side of the league office, or maybe their partners now.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, right.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: How that happened, don't know.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but doesn't it feel like the Monday night's place been unbelievable this year?
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: Monday night's late has been solid.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see the old school thing that I tweeted yesterday, by the way, speaking of Monday and football?
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: No, so somebody tweeted out like a giant's Monday night football game at the intro and they had the long back then they had the awesome long run out of the intro that made Monday football feel like the biggest thing on earth every week, right?
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, and it was the old ABC edge intro and so I watched it of course.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a sucker for those sorts of things and so they had like the interviews with guys like spliced into the the the the the the the musical intro
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: And for some reason, Jeff Haustettler and Leonard Marshall were being interviewed shirtless.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_00]: it was a very bizarre thing and like at first it was like you see Leonard Marshall and he's gotten and he like you see it's like traps you know and it's like like all right like that's weird but he's probably just showing off and then like you know 45 seconds later they cut the Jeff Hot Hot hot hot hot settler who all do respect Jeff Hot settler or really really good quarterback back in the day not a great body guy
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, no, he just kind of like, I mean, if you walk by Jeff Haustell or in the street, you might think he's selling insurance and not playing professional football.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: And he has to shut off too.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: So it was an interesting clip.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to send it to you because it is, it is something else.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we can get your library action here if you want to.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_01]: How about this?
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: Let's save it.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to kickstart my weekend because I am off Albert to a undisclosed team facility to wrap up a huge close story and we will see you on Monday morning to recap the full slate of NFL games preview the big bucks lines game have a great weekend and enjoy your college football.
