- 0:00Speaker 1: Yo, this is Rory. I'm on the Bootleg keV show
- 0:02Speaker 1: Long Overdue. Please stream my album I'm begging you, or
- 0:06Speaker 1: find a streaming farm. I thought it'd be different out tonight.
- 0:09Speaker 1: If you know someone that is a streaming farm, I
- 0:12Speaker 1: really really appreciate it. But this Bootleg keV episode is great.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We've been meaning to do this shit mad salacious clips.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We talk about everybody.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Bootleg keV Podcast Special guests.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The homie Rory is yes, off the the Shroom gummies too,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Off the Shroom. I took all seven, which I think
- 0:30Speaker 1: says twelve.
- 0:31Speaker 2: But you know, yes, you're about to have yourself a
- 0:34Speaker 2: fucking trip.
- 0:34Speaker 1: But I can't wait. Let's get let's get some headlines. Yo,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we're both one on the list. Oh sorry to say.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I was gonna say thank you.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I wanted to thank you because you you, you and
- 0:44Speaker 2: mag showed me some love. I know there was that
- 0:46Speaker 2: a complex list that I don't know how you guys
- 0:49Speaker 2: didn't make it. I have some ideas, but it's fun,
- 0:53Speaker 2: but like I don't really like look into that shit
- 0:55Speaker 2: too much. You know, I honestly like never expect to
- 0:57Speaker 2: make that kind of shit. So like when I saw
- 0:59Speaker 2: you guys shot me out. It meant a lot. It
- 1:00Speaker 2: was cool.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Man. Lists aren't important in the scope of things, but
- 1:03Speaker 1: they're great to talk about. I love a list. I'm
- 1:05Speaker 1: never above arguing about a list or just talking about shit,
- 1:08Speaker 1: whether we're on it or not. But I felt you
- 1:10Speaker 1: definitely should have been on it for hip hop media.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And you guys should have definitely been on it.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I mean, can we even have the conversation of what
- 1:16Speaker 1: is hip hop media?
- 1:17Speaker 2: Now? To me, you do hip hop media. I'm not
- 1:20Speaker 2: even quite sure if Mal and I do hip hop media.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm not sure if the podcast space is very much
- 1:26Speaker 2: hip hop media per se. I think you guys are
- 1:29Speaker 2: common touches.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There's touches of it at this point, right, But podcasting
- 1:33Speaker 1: has had to expand so much it's tough to like
- 1:36Speaker 1: just do the hip hops that's become niche How crazy
- 1:39Speaker 1: is that the biggest genre in the world. But podcasting
- 1:41Speaker 1: has gotten so big you can't just do hip hop shit.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I think that's why your guys and shit is so dope.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Coud you guys talk about just everything, like whatever's going on, Like,
- 1:50Speaker 2: you guys have a take on it for the most part,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you know, and it's good. How's everything with this album?
- 1:56Speaker 1: Man?
- 1:57Speaker 2: You know I used you had sent me, Well, you
- 1:59Speaker 2: just sent me the album twenty was before he showed up.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So yeah, I saw the way I swore I sent
- 2:03Speaker 1: it to you before and the way he had a
- 2:04Speaker 1: bunch of songs before.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that are on the album obviously, But I haven't
- 2:09Speaker 2: listened to a front to back. But I know this
- 2:11Speaker 2: has been like your baby for a long time.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been a long time coming. I mean when
- 2:15Speaker 1: I started, it was maybe like three years ago. And
- 2:19Speaker 1: luckily I had a lot of great excuses for why
- 2:22Speaker 1: it was taking so long. Right, one was the pandemic obviously,
- 2:25Speaker 1: and especially for great excuse, I loved it. Can't do
- 2:27Speaker 1: anything right. Also, even like with the other pod breakup,
- 2:31Speaker 1: like I had to reset on a lot of stuff.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So even getting mull and I's show up and running,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and you know, starting from zero with a whole new
- 2:39Speaker 1: show was a task in itself, where the album kind
- 2:42Speaker 1: of took a bit of a back seat. So, you know,
- 2:45Speaker 1: it was three years, but I can't say I worked
- 2:47Speaker 1: on it for three years. Like I had to stop
- 2:49Speaker 1: for a while, which was good though, because I mean
- 2:51Speaker 1: there's records had I put this album out two and
- 2:54Speaker 1: a half years ago, I probably would have fucking hated it,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and I think I would have regretted, so like shot
- 3:00Speaker 1: out to China for COVID and shout out to the
- 3:03Speaker 1: Old Show for breaking.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Up, like shout to the China virus. Yeah it really
- 3:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry for everyone that lost grandparents, but it really
- 3:08Speaker 2: helped my album.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I lost my grandma.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I have money than I ever had in the pandemic,
- 3:13Speaker 2: So you know, I can't.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Tell by the plaques.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, these plaquess, fucking these are bullshit. You know that
- 3:18Speaker 2: they send people who play songs I ned to do
- 3:21Speaker 2: another songs.
- 3:22Speaker 1: You know, broke my heart when I went into certain
- 3:24Speaker 1: producers studios and saw all the plaques, but then realized
- 3:27Speaker 1: they were also DJs, right, and the labels used to
- 3:30Speaker 1: just send out plaques like you worked on the Miseducation
- 3:32Speaker 1: of Warren Hill, Like no.
- 3:34Speaker 2: No, yeah, Like I got a lot of my og
- 3:35Speaker 2: homies who have like a big l uh a big
- 3:39Speaker 2: picture plaque from Raucus. Yeah, and then like I started
- 3:42Speaker 2: to realize, like damn, everybody who's an old head in
- 3:45Speaker 2: the music industry I know has one of these, Like
- 3:47Speaker 2: not everybody could have worked on this ship, and what
- 3:50Speaker 2: did you work on on the big picture? Like you
- 3:53Speaker 2: live in La Yeah, like what happened?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Like you know, but you got one production credit that
- 3:58Speaker 1: I see here.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, So like the DJ plaques thing is very like,
- 4:01Speaker 2: uh I youn't know whatever. I mean, I'm not gonna
- 4:04Speaker 2: fucking turn them away. They look nicely, of.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Course, I'm justus. I have no plaques. I feel like
- 4:07Speaker 1: I should have some, but I just never like went
- 4:09Speaker 1: to collect.
- 4:10Speaker 2: None of the emotional orange stuff has gone gold yet. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: we're like quadruple platinum in Korea, so you got to
- 4:16Speaker 2: get one of them.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I have to get a Korean plaque for sure.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, listen for people who don't know, because I
- 4:22Speaker 2: feel like a lot of people know you, yeah, but
- 4:27Speaker 2: they might not necessarily know your story. Kind of give
- 4:31Speaker 2: me a breakdown on like how you got even because
- 4:35Speaker 2: I think I first met you at like a Henny
- 4:38Speaker 2: palooza in LA like maybe four or.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Five years ago. Six years ago is downtown.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But give me a breakdown of just kind of how
- 4:45Speaker 2: you got into the industry. Obviously we know about the
- 4:48Speaker 2: Joe Budden podcast.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean it started well before that. Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 1: So my barber in college by Barbara, I mean, the
- 4:59Speaker 1: only guy that had clippers on the floor in the dorm.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Shout out to my man Owen, who I'm still really
- 5:04Speaker 1: cool with. He was interning at Deaf Jam and I
- 5:06Speaker 1: didn't even know that was like a thing. I was like,
- 5:08Speaker 1: you can, you can do that because there was like
- 5:11Speaker 1: internship programs at our college. But again I was like
- 5:14Speaker 1: a freshman, so I didn't know much about that, but
- 5:16Speaker 1: I assume like internship was like you interned at the
- 5:19Speaker 1: fucking financial aid office. Like I didn't know there was
- 5:21Speaker 1: real internships per se. And he was like, yeah, I'll
- 5:26Speaker 1: link you with the person I'm interning for because I
- 5:28Speaker 1: guess like legally you could only do one semester deaf
- 5:30Speaker 1: Jam at the time. So I interviewed with Sharen Taylor,
- 5:34Speaker 1: who was at RCA forever, been in the business forever too.
- 5:39Speaker 1: With her she was the assistant to Gabby Paluso. Ended
- 5:42Speaker 1: up getting the internship and kind of just going crazy
- 5:45Speaker 1: in that building. Like I was almost teetering on the
- 5:49Speaker 1: line of annoying, but like I was right on that
- 5:51Speaker 1: consistent line where people fucked with me. But I was
- 5:54Speaker 1: in every single apartment talking to every single person, ended
- 5:57Speaker 1: up linking with Shot Money and just or even with
- 6:00Speaker 1: the neighborhood connection at that time. He took me under
- 6:03Speaker 1: his wing, and then where Shah went, I went. So
- 6:06Speaker 1: I would say Gabby Paluso, Shreene and Shaw Money were
- 6:09Speaker 1: like the three people that really introduced me into the
- 6:12Speaker 1: music business. That's actually how I met Benner. Benner was
- 6:14Speaker 1: working with Shaw Money. Benner's now my manager. And this
- 6:16Speaker 1: was when I was nineteen. I'm thirty three now.
- 6:19Speaker 2: So did you meet Benner at one of those random
- 6:21Speaker 2: beat conventions in Phoenix? Yes, that Sha used to do.
- 6:26Speaker 2: What were those the producer conferences? What were those called?
- 6:28Speaker 1: Fuck?
- 6:29Speaker 2: I don't know. I never could go because at the
- 6:30Speaker 2: time I was doing radio in like Middle America. But yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 2: I would always see my friends. I'd be like, God, damn,
- 6:36Speaker 2: this is.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It was the producer conference and shout out to Shan Money.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Go because ahead of his time, he had every producer
- 6:41Speaker 1: you could think of, all within like a convention center
- 6:45Speaker 1: and they would have beats battles, they would have like
- 6:47Speaker 1: conferences for producers. They would have like tech shit like
- 6:50Speaker 1: shot is such an adult thing with that you. No,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I was in high school. I think when yeah, how
- 6:57Speaker 1: I actually met Benner, my manager in this you know
- 7:00Speaker 1: the podcast knows them as well. Now was Better and
- 7:03Speaker 1: Sean Money were doing this thing called deaf Jam Cipher Sessions.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Shaw was VP of A and R at deaf Jam.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Betteran was moving around the industry and they started this
- 7:11Speaker 1: thing that was like the main act at deaf Jam
- 7:15Speaker 1: at the time for their regions. So, for example, the
- 7:17Speaker 1: first one was with Big Sean and then a bunch
- 7:19Speaker 1: of opening acts and then an actual cipher at SOBS.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Then they did the South one that had Big Crid Sahai.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Then the la won in the lineup was fucking nuts.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I think it was. Was it Kendrick dom Jesus was
- 7:31Speaker 2: Nipsey on that too.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yg And this was two thousand and ten, Jesus, yeah day.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So they just did different regions and we did them
- 7:42Speaker 1: all at SOBS. I mean, I've talked to Big Sean
- 7:47Speaker 1: later in life and he was like, yeah, that deaf
- 7:48Speaker 1: Jam cipher session shit was like kind of the thing
- 7:51Speaker 1: that made the building pay attention to me. I wasn't
- 7:53Speaker 1: just the what you're doing bullshitting kid at that time,
- 7:57Speaker 1: Like they were like, hey, maybe we should give them
- 7:58Speaker 1: Marvin Games Shardine. So it was really cool to be
- 8:01Speaker 1: on the ground floor with that stuff.
- 8:02Speaker 2: And that's the way what happened at Rosco Dash. Anyway,
- 8:04Speaker 2: continue he could be on an undercard for Versus and
- 8:08Speaker 2: do I he I mean super undercard.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah, just like you know when people are walking in.
- 8:13Speaker 2: It'd be like the soldier boy bow wow undercard.
- 8:17Speaker 1: No, you have to put more respect on Roscoe Dash's name.
- 8:20Speaker 1: He had some hooks that he could go crazy on. Great,
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah he's got no hands Marvin Gan shard all the way.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah you have Rosco Dash fucked up?
- 8:30Speaker 2: He got has he got a fourth or fifth and.
- 8:31Speaker 1: He might have some writing credits that he could play
- 8:33Speaker 1: as well.
- 8:34Speaker 2: He lives in Arizona. By the way, I heard.
- 8:35Speaker 1: This has just been the Arizona podcast already. Yeah, he
- 8:39Speaker 1: was on Oh my, come on shout hey. Anyway, we
- 8:43Speaker 1: got sidetracked with Roscoe Dash.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Uh.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But yeah, from there I met Aristotle, who is a
- 8:50Speaker 1: very talented music video director who now is doing feature films.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He just went to Sun Dance. H He has a
- 8:55Speaker 1: movie called Story of Executive produced by Jamie Fox, but
- 8:58Speaker 1: had a company called By any means. He was actually
- 9:00Speaker 1: Ja Cole's first manager, and we ended up connecting with
- 9:03Speaker 1: Kevin Lyles at KWL and kind of just forming like
- 9:06Speaker 1: we were their creative team more or less. When they
- 9:08Speaker 1: had Sean Trey. That's when three hundred came in, so
- 9:11Speaker 1: you know, early migos at that time, early young thug
- 9:14Speaker 1: at that time. And we were just all on park
- 9:16Speaker 1: Ad with fucking keV Leor and Todd just like doing
- 9:19Speaker 1: the creer what the fuck are we doing here? And
- 9:21Speaker 1: type shit. Leor sat across from me in a desk
- 9:24Speaker 1: that's like this wow, Like not.
- 9:25Speaker 2: In a cubicle that's fucking fire, and he would.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Just ask me the most intimidating questions all the time
- 9:30Speaker 1: with no context. Why should I know you? I don't know.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I feel like he could say anything.
- 9:36Speaker 1: He's an intimidating guy for sure. Really really nice guy though,
- 9:39Speaker 1: but he's intimidating as fuck. I'm real tight with his
- 9:41Speaker 1: brother Maddy, but I've never met Leor if. I just
- 9:44Speaker 1: watched all his interviews and I'm like.
- 9:45Speaker 2: This, dude, I heard he's really tall, yes, and he
- 9:48Speaker 2: just seems like he's just he speaks.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Like a Russian hit man.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and he just leaves with like every every question
- 9:55Speaker 2: is uh, to start to meet somebody with why do
- 9:57Speaker 2: I need to know you?
- 9:58Speaker 1: And you're like a nineteen twenty year old kid, like
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know what, you don't need to I'm just go home.
- 10:03Speaker 2: You don't need to know me. Bro, you're rich, like
- 10:05Speaker 2: I mean.
- 10:06Speaker 1: But no, that but that speaks to kind of why
- 10:08Speaker 1: I think Leor amongst a million other things, has been
- 10:11Speaker 1: so successful in this business. I was just some random
- 10:14Speaker 1: kid that was doing ship and he was like, yo,
- 10:17Speaker 1: what that wasn't a try to shit on me question.
- 10:19Speaker 1: That was to try to get to know me. Here's
- 10:21Speaker 1: your opportunity to tell me what you guys can do.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And no, I didn't say I just want to go home.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I showed him, Uh, stuff we were doing for the
- 10:28Speaker 1: smaller artists on three hundred of like social clips and
- 10:30Speaker 1: like Mike we built. No, it was this kid from
- 10:34Speaker 1: God he's from Washington, not DC like state. I forgot
- 10:38Speaker 1: his name, but we were doing a lot of stuff. Yes,
- 10:41Speaker 1: this this guy named Mackelmore Travis shout out to Travis.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So yeah, it was That's like was the early stuff
- 10:47Speaker 1: before like Polosa and the pod hit and everything. I'm
- 10:50Speaker 1: sorry if I bored people know that. I never think
- 10:52Speaker 1: people want to know.
- 10:53Speaker 2: That you have like a real, real I feel like
- 10:55Speaker 2: not a lot like maybe people were just you know
- 10:57Speaker 2: a lot of people see your guys as clips and
- 10:58Speaker 2: they don't really necessarily die all the way in because
- 11:00Speaker 2: you guys have like two or three hour long episodes. Yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 2: so you have like real roots in the music industry, but.
- 11:05Speaker 1: In both sides too. Like I did the label ship,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I did the creative ship, I did the independent ship.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Like I've I've kind of had every single aspect of
- 11:13Speaker 1: the music industry, which I'm happy about.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And then you guys obviously created a dope brand Henny Pulouza,
- 11:20Speaker 2: which toward I mean.
- 11:22Speaker 1: For forever then.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah, love, yeah, do say it's do St palusin hour?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Is it?
- 11:28Speaker 2: Is it still a thing?
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's not a thing though, Okay, it's done. I don't
- 11:31Speaker 1: know if I'm officially allowed to say that. But we're not.
- 11:32Speaker 1: We're not coming back. It's over. Yeah. Sorry if we
- 11:34Speaker 1: didn't have like more of a a whole closing type thing,
- 11:38Speaker 1: but yeah, we we ended at the Barclays. That's the
- 11:40Speaker 1: way COVID I seriously jokes aside was a huge part
- 11:43Speaker 1: of that and then also after COVID, like we all
- 11:46Speaker 1: got kind of old, Like that ship becomes exhausting when
- 11:51Speaker 1: you're traveling around the world drinking yeah, like a lot.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, it becomes really really tiring. So I mean,
- 11:59Speaker 1: it was an era, an incredible thing. I think it's
- 12:01Speaker 1: in the lineage of parties within the culture, like I
- 12:06Speaker 1: think and no way am I like saying we're the tunnel,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but for our era, Like that's a staple for our
- 12:11Speaker 1: era as far as what was going on in hip
- 12:14Speaker 1: hop at the time with parties, and I think we
- 12:16Speaker 1: changed how parties are now, Like the day party is
- 12:18Speaker 1: the thing now, the branded party is the thing, the
- 12:21Speaker 1: club the thing. The clubs are you know, have been dying.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I think they're trying to make a comeback with these
- 12:26Speaker 1: these new set of kids.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I just opened a club in Scottsdale, and it's like
- 12:32Speaker 2: it's been fucking great. M it's been amazing, But you know,
- 12:35Speaker 2: we've been lucky. We kind of feeled that there was
- 12:37Speaker 2: no hip hop clubs left in a Z so we
- 12:39Speaker 2: opened the spot and opened it right before Super Bowl.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Whatever happened to that rapper Juice from He Goes by
- 12:45Speaker 2: Richie Evans, Now he was really dope, still is dope.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Richie's dope. He's og Muggs, my boy. Og Muggs manages him,
- 12:53Speaker 2: who's like Tech nine security and Need forty Security. And
- 12:56Speaker 2: he just he just performed at Gary V's Vcon.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Okay, a little different than Black Wall Street.
- 13:02Speaker 2: But yeah, he goes by Richie Evans. Now he was dope.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I was like Juice a lot. Juice was dope. Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 2: the Blackwaster. And then we had hot Rod who was
- 13:10Speaker 2: signed a G Unit, and then we had Willie north
- 13:13Speaker 2: Pole who was signed to Ludicrous.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I remember Willie north Pole, and of course I remember
- 13:17Speaker 1: hot Rod. Hot Rod had a record with Mary J.
- 13:19Speaker 2: He did be easy. And you know the thing about
- 13:23Speaker 2: hot Rod is he still lives in Arizona. He's kind
- 13:25Speaker 2: of like a social media like he runs some funny
- 13:27Speaker 2: pages and stuff shot to him. I think it's the
- 13:29Speaker 2: Ship's Good Times Jackson on Instagram. But he was really
- 13:31Speaker 2: from Sacramento, so Arizona really never embraced him like that
- 13:35Speaker 2: because he was he was from Sacramento.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Okay, well, I mean we all thought he was firing Repedasy.
- 13:40Speaker 1: That was a weird time in G Unit to be
- 13:43Speaker 1: super weird.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That was like when you could you could tell it
- 13:46Speaker 2: was like, you know, I remember when I was super
- 13:49Speaker 2: excited the MLP and Mob Deeper on G Unit, Body
- 13:53Speaker 2: Blood Money was a decent album. There was some singles
- 13:56Speaker 2: on there. MP never dropped the album on JUNI.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Did they not that I remember, no, But I thought,
- 14:04Speaker 1: even in my young naive time at that when they
- 14:07Speaker 1: signed Mob Deep, I love Mob Deep, and I didn't
- 14:09Speaker 1: think it was over for Mob Deep. I just thought
- 14:10Speaker 1: it was weird that Gunit was signing acts older than them,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and I was like, this is odd the MOP.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Sign and love MOP Warriors is one of my favorite albums.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I fucking love Mop. I just I was like, this
- 14:23Speaker 2: is cool and shout out to As a kid, I
- 14:26Speaker 2: wasn't thinking to myself, like why is fifty signing guys
- 14:29Speaker 2: that are older than him? And underground is fun? Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 2: I was just like this is lit. Like I didn't
- 14:34Speaker 2: think anybody was liked Mop but me, you know what
- 14:36Speaker 2: I'm saying, Like.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I just figured it was all some petty shit behind
- 14:40Speaker 1: the scenes because it wasn't MP on Rockefeller. Yeah, then
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think yes, And then there was something there was
- 14:45Speaker 1: some other g Unit petty beef that he also signed.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That makes it the fuck you I'm signing MP by
- 14:53Speaker 2: the way, that you don't know remix the only version
- 14:55Speaker 2: of the song I prefer.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree Blueprint too, you know what I mean.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm glad this is the only podcasts I can have
- 15:00Speaker 1: Juice conversations on. This is why so I didn't cover
- 15:03Speaker 1: with my regular press friend. Shit, I just want to
- 15:05Speaker 1: talk about Juice Arizona.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Yeah, so you obviously did you ever have any sort
- 15:12Speaker 2: of like idea that you would even because you're pretty like,
- 15:17Speaker 2: you know, I wouldn't say you're like an outward personality,
- 15:21Speaker 2: you know what I mean, You're you're a pretty like
- 15:23Speaker 2: chill dude. Like. Did you have ever any sort of
- 15:26Speaker 2: aspirations to be a personality or I mean, obviously you
- 15:29Speaker 2: fell into the podcast situation.
- 15:32Speaker 1: No, by any means absolutely not. Like even with Palooza,
- 15:37Speaker 1: everyone knows Polusa. You never saw me unless you saw
- 15:39Speaker 1: me losing my mind backstage, running around working like. I
- 15:41Speaker 1: never wanted to be on stage, even when they would
- 15:43Speaker 1: do like the moments of the toa snaw. Shit, I
- 15:45Speaker 1: never I don't know. Maybe it's I don't know, if
- 15:47Speaker 1: it's shyness, don't it's only child thing. I'm just not.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I don't like attention. It makes me feel really really uncomfortable,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and not in like the cool way people say it, like,
- 15:54Speaker 1: it makes me really uncomfortable. So I didn't. But podcasting
- 15:59Speaker 1: is rastically different in that regard. Like when we started
- 16:04Speaker 1: the podcast, I was, you know, producing it for the
- 16:07Speaker 1: first beginning of it before I got on an episode
- 16:10Speaker 1: seven where the fuck it was? But that was very
- 16:12Speaker 1: much a comfortable thing because it was amongst friends. It
- 16:15Speaker 1: was something we could control, Like and it's you like
- 16:21Speaker 1: palooza with the host on stage and ship like you
- 16:23Speaker 1: have to be the bravado, the charismatic like that. That's
- 16:26Speaker 1: something that I don't possess.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So that would come across very inauthentic and corny, and
- 16:31Speaker 2: I would you nuts very cringing.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yes, I don't think you want me to be like
- 16:35Speaker 1: yo yo, put your motherfucking answer. I love I love
- 16:37Speaker 1: swag Serf, but I should not be leading it. That's
- 16:39Speaker 1: all I'm saying, motherfucker, we're about to do the swag surf.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And even like I'm rory to be my new drop actually,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and even with radio, like there is comma radio personalities,
- 16:54Speaker 1: but there is very much the flex or Star or
- 16:57Speaker 1: even Ebro has a lot of provider actually New York. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: but that's that's a little tamer, Like you know, Envy's
- 17:03Speaker 1: been very successful as a radio personality. Rosenberg too, and
- 17:06Speaker 1: they're not like really loud people in that regard. But
- 17:10Speaker 1: podcasting was even more in my corner. I could just
- 17:13Speaker 1: be myself the entire time. I don't have to turn
- 17:16Speaker 1: something on, like all right, we're back from a commercial
- 17:18Speaker 1: break and it's like that was number ten, Like I
- 17:20Speaker 1: I would it would just feel corny to me, and
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think it would come across that way. So it
- 17:24Speaker 1: was never something I wanted to do, but podcasting for sure,
- 17:27Speaker 1: and that's opened me up Paul's to other things that
- 17:30Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't have done, like even with the live shows.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I shot my own live show for the role out
- 17:35Speaker 1: of this album, Like I got more comfortable in that
- 17:37Speaker 1: space knowing that I can do it myself and do
- 17:41Speaker 1: it the way I want to do rather than the
- 17:42Speaker 1: structure of what a radio would be or what a
- 17:44Speaker 1: party host would be or you know, a TV host would.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I can do the ship the way I want to.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And that's why I love podcasting.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And you're not you're obviously not screaming all over your album.
- 17:55Speaker 1: No, I fucking wish.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Shutry Lenox pret bl.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I thought about it another two I thought about it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I actually had. I had a good amount of skits
- 18:09Speaker 1: that were pod related throughout the album, like in the
- 18:12Speaker 1: early phases of it. But then it started to feel
- 18:14Speaker 1: too much uh not parody, I would wouldn't use that word,
- 18:19Speaker 1: but it felt too much like the pod shit, like
- 18:21Speaker 1: this wasn't as serious as what the album became.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You kind of wanted people to like, I mean, yeah,
- 18:26Speaker 2: I mean I respect it, like you want people to
- 18:27Speaker 2: take take the music very serious. And I'd be like,
- 18:30Speaker 2: is what is this? This is the podcast guy?
- 18:31Speaker 1: And it was fun with someone like the pod skits
- 18:34Speaker 1: I had in between, and maybe I will do that
- 18:36Speaker 1: one day after. I hope people take me seriously on
- 18:39Speaker 1: this one. But yeah, it felt like I was I
- 18:41Speaker 1: was doing a joke.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Do you because obviously there has been like you know,
- 18:47Speaker 2: compilation albums have been a thing in hip hop for sure,
- 18:49Speaker 2: but uh even more recently some of my Callity Who's
- 18:52Speaker 2: Fucking Huge and the Metro Metro Booming produces, but that's
- 18:55Speaker 2: one of my favorite albums. YE recent memory there hasn't
- 18:59Speaker 2: really been I mean I could be wrong, but there
- 19:02Speaker 2: really hasn't been somebody in my peripherals that has done
- 19:05Speaker 2: the R and B route.
- 19:06Speaker 1: No. I mean you can think of like a Robert
- 19:09Speaker 1: Glasper who's producing everything and putting like Black Radio three,
- 19:12Speaker 1: who was one of my favorite albums last year. So
- 19:15Speaker 1: there's always been those type of like producer albums per se.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And you're like, yeah, and I mean still, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: still very much have a hand in the production, arranging
- 19:24Speaker 1: and writing of everything. Not to the degree of course
- 19:26Speaker 1: that Robert Glasper does, but yeah, very much a part
- 19:29Speaker 1: of each record. I yeah, I think R and B
- 19:31Speaker 1: needed that because this it started out more as like
- 19:34Speaker 1: an original playlist is what I was gonna call it,
- 19:36Speaker 1: Like let me get original records from artists and put
- 19:38Speaker 1: together my own playlist of original music. And then that
- 19:42Speaker 1: turned into like, hey, this feels more like an album,
- 19:45Speaker 1: and I've never seen anyone in R and B do this.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And even with like the Khalid perspective, he gets the
- 19:51Speaker 1: biggest names, which is great, but there is especially now
- 19:54Speaker 1: such a sub genre where superstars aren't as important anymore.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Sure and fans have these huge, huge cult fan bases,
- 20:01Speaker 1: Like you know, when you go on streaming and it
- 20:03Speaker 1: says an artist page, you may like under here. Yeah,
- 20:07Speaker 1: that's almost this version in an album, because there's so
- 20:10Speaker 1: many like artists that people have not heard of, but
- 20:13Speaker 1: they've heard of another artist, and this fan base is
- 20:15Speaker 1: just waiting to hear from this artist. So let's put
- 20:17Speaker 1: them together. And then you do get moments where I'll
- 20:20Speaker 1: get a Jay Electronica and put them on a song
- 20:22Speaker 1: with Reggie, who is brand new. That would never happen
- 20:25Speaker 1: on a Kalid project. It would just be j Electronica
- 20:28Speaker 1: and fucking jay Z. Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: It's like, let me do some stuff that wouldn't happen
- 20:33Speaker 2: otherwise unless I do it.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And I'm a huge Griselda fan.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I've always on the always wanted to hear Conway on
- 20:40Speaker 2: something that would be more played at H and M.
- 20:44Speaker 1: More of a dance record. Uh, you know something you
- 20:46Speaker 1: can try on tight T shirts too, and Conway doesn't
- 20:49Speaker 1: sound weird on it. Lo No, Yeah, that's one of
- 20:51Speaker 1: the records you sent me.
- 20:51Speaker 2: That's fucking shout out to Conway, who I feel like
- 20:54Speaker 2: Conway can really do anything.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Oh he I.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Don't think I told this story. Ben O may Tols.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I don't know when I sent it to Conway.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I met up with him at engine room in U
- 21:07Speaker 1: in the city and he's like, why did you send
- 21:08Speaker 1: me that record? And I was like, fuck, what the
- 21:12Speaker 1: fuck did I do? Because you know, just like Lee
- 21:14Speaker 1: or he's an intimidating guy, just for different reasons aigrette
- 21:19Speaker 1: yeah and a whole bottle any And he was like,
- 21:22Speaker 1: why did you send me that that type of record.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I was like, I mean, I just wanted to hear
- 21:25Speaker 1: you on something like that, and he was like, no,
- 21:27Speaker 1: thank you. Everyone just sends me beats that sound like
- 21:30Speaker 1: Alchemists or Darren and he was like, I would have
- 21:33Speaker 1: done the verse for you, because like, I fuck with you.
- 21:35Speaker 1: But when you sent that, like I got excited to
- 21:37Speaker 1: come cut this first. Finally someone sent me something that
- 21:40Speaker 1: wasn't in the same realm whenever they want to fucking
- 21:43Speaker 1: Griselda feature. So that like those types of sessions were
- 21:46Speaker 1: like real wins to me behind the scenes, like I
- 21:48Speaker 1: was able to get artists to do shit that they
- 21:51Speaker 1: wanted to do but maybe didn't have the opportunity to
- 21:53Speaker 1: do as far as sound.
- 21:54Speaker 2: A lot of times these guys get typecasted with the
- 21:56Speaker 2: type of beats they they get sent. Mean, it's like
- 22:00Speaker 2: you know, I've heard I heard a there was a
- 22:02Speaker 2: I don't know if Conway ever played you this song
- 22:03Speaker 2: he had that's never gonna come out, but we've talked
- 22:06Speaker 2: about it on the podcast. But he had a record
- 22:08Speaker 2: with hit Maker that was on a hit Maker beat
- 22:11Speaker 2: that's sampled. I think it's sampled some big or something.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I record my phone.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Boogie's on it.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Sorry, I choked him.
- 22:18Speaker 2: That record's fucking crazy, super crazy single.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I think. Uh, I'm not gonna speak on the
- 22:25Speaker 1: politics of of what stopped that, but uh, that record
- 22:28Speaker 1: was crazy. It was it was a biggie sample, a boogie.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I think someone else on it, maybe Jeremi maybe, yes,
- 22:34Speaker 1: could be I have it in my phone from a
- 22:36Speaker 1: long time ago. But there's a lot of those those
- 22:38Speaker 1: beats that I feel like Riselda wanted to do and
- 22:41Speaker 1: had to wait. But I think they took their time
- 22:43Speaker 1: in the right way. I think what Benny's doing, I think,
- 22:45Speaker 1: you know Conway with the Justice League thing that's about
- 22:48Speaker 1: to come out as well as Perfect and Yeah, I
- 22:52Speaker 1: think they've they've changed their their sound.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I just watched the entirety of your guys's blog era
- 23:00Speaker 2: A Jeopardy or whatever the fuck it was. I watched
- 23:03Speaker 2: the whole thing.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Shout out to Instagram, Jeff Eric, Yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Because they have the new the new podcast.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Which is phenomenal by the way.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, first episode was great because I was like, Wow,
- 23:13Speaker 2: the blog era, this is my life. Yeah, but that
- 23:16Speaker 2: shit was that shit was that was great?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Man, That was a fucking yeah, it was.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It was you won too. I think that's everybody.
- 23:24Speaker 1: That's my era. Yeah, that's definitely my era. And I
- 23:26Speaker 1: mean and where I'm home home turf SOB stage.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Like that's where I was birthed. Oh it was at Sobs. Yeah, people,
- 23:34Speaker 2: if you know, you know type of thing that was
- 23:37Speaker 2: once Like once it was such a staple.
- 23:39Speaker 1: For New York City and the blog era was like,
- 23:41Speaker 1: we could shoot this at my crib, we could shoot
- 23:43Speaker 1: this at some stage, but doing it at Sobs made
- 23:45Speaker 1: it feel cooler, even if no one realized we were
- 23:48Speaker 1: at Sobs.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Who to you is like the biggest blog era? Would
- 23:53Speaker 2: it could have?
- 23:53Speaker 1: What if Charles S. Hamilson by far?
- 23:55Speaker 2: Oh my god, me too.
- 23:56Speaker 1: It's not even close. And I mean that, and I
- 23:58Speaker 1: mean that respectfully. I don't mean that.
- 23:59Speaker 2: And like I remember, there was that YouTube video of
- 24:01Speaker 2: Charles Hamilton backstage. I think the Game was in. It
- 24:04Speaker 2: was Kanye there. Yes, Charles Hamilton is a snapping he
- 24:08Speaker 2: was a it was like the Green Lantern mixtape where
- 24:12Speaker 2: he sampled Stained Outside.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I'm on the.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Wait, am I am? I confusing that with fucking that's
- 24:18Speaker 2: Charles Hamilton.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Right, I'm sure he's sampled staying before. I got almost
- 24:22Speaker 1: guarantee it.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I'm confusing that or removed music, but I mean the
- 24:25Speaker 2: uh Joe also sampled that Pink Liba lamp was one
- 24:28Speaker 2: of my favorite from the blog era as far as mixtapes.
- 24:31Speaker 2: And if you look at Charles Hamilton outside of just
- 24:35Speaker 2: his sheer talent, he had Jimmy Ivan and Jimmy Iven
- 24:38Speaker 2: banked on him too. That's a different type of animal
- 24:41Speaker 2: when you have Jimmy Ivien. That's why he's in rooms
- 24:44Speaker 2: with Game in Kanye that early and it just sea
- 24:48Speaker 2: was the pink backpack.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just listen man, mental health and prayers to him.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I know he still does make music. But I'm always
- 24:56Speaker 1: been a Charles Hamilton fan. I don't mean that in
- 24:58Speaker 1: a way like would meet too, but I know he
- 25:01Speaker 1: went at him. I mean he was and he was
- 25:04Speaker 1: even I think two years ahead of even where music
- 25:08Speaker 1: was about to go with the blog era as far
- 25:10Speaker 1: as I don't like the word nerd, but switching over
- 25:14Speaker 1: to that trying.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Like an actual nerdy guy. Yeah, like yeah, he referred
- 25:18Speaker 2: himself as a blogger before it, Like for sure, I remember, Uh,
- 25:22Speaker 2: there was a song that he sampled. Was it he sampled? Uh,
- 25:27Speaker 2: like the sounds of like windows, and like I forget
- 25:32Speaker 2: what it was. But he he also had that high
- 25:35Speaker 2: output that got to the point where I was just like,
- 25:38Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on anymore. Yeah, I don't
- 25:40Speaker 2: know how many z share fucking links. This guy's fucking dropping.
- 25:42Speaker 2: He had like fucking thirty mixtapes. And then he ended
- 25:44Speaker 2: up beefing with Roys over the Dila thing.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yeah, which was a mistake, but that's being it felt
- 25:51Speaker 1: like that was the beginning, being the quote unquote nerd
- 25:54Speaker 1: and not realizing even if you are from Harlem, Cleveland, whatever,
- 25:57Speaker 1: like not knowing that you're just a Jade Dila fan,
- 26:01Speaker 1: but not realizing how offensive that could be to the
- 26:03Speaker 1: family that you just said your album was executive produced
- 26:06Speaker 1: by him and he passed. You didn't even doubt, like
- 26:09Speaker 1: you didn't even steal some Dilla beats on the internet,
- 26:11Speaker 1: Like you just said you saw him in a dream
- 26:13Speaker 1: and he executive produced it. And it's like that can
- 26:15Speaker 1: get really offensive to people that were friends with him.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And now he's dead, Like, yeah, he tried to make
- 26:20Speaker 1: and Detroit is just not one of those cities he
- 26:22Speaker 1: tried to make. Protect Jake Dilla.
- 26:24Speaker 2: When you trying to make a comeback a few years ago,
- 26:26Speaker 2: was it three or four years ago? Yeah, I was like, oh.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he did. He did an interview on Hot ninety seven.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I think he had a record out with Rita Aura
- 26:35Speaker 1: was like the comeback I think. So I could be wrong,
- 26:38Speaker 1: but I think Rita Aura and he looked healthy, but
- 26:42Speaker 1: you could tell he was like really really on meds,
- 26:45Speaker 1: like meds had mellowed him out, like a little too much, right,
- 26:49Speaker 1: And I think he just wasn't ready for a comeback
- 26:51Speaker 1: because it didn't look like there was creativity. It just
- 26:53Speaker 1: looked like he was mended the fuck out. Didn't make
- 26:56Speaker 1: it under your album. I would definitely work with Charles Hanmilinson,
- 26:59Speaker 1: depending on where his health was. As far as like
- 27:02Speaker 1: a human being.
- 27:02Speaker 2: He's an alien bro.
- 27:04Speaker 1: He's amazing, and all the stunts that he did at
- 27:06Speaker 1: that time, we would deem genius had there been a
- 27:10Speaker 1: different result. And I think a lot of the result
- 27:13Speaker 1: had to do with his mental health and the situations
- 27:15Speaker 1: he was in. But all that shit we're talking about
- 27:18Speaker 1: with the thirty albums, all the Internet shit he was doing,
- 27:20Speaker 1: only putting music out on his website, even the stunts
- 27:24Speaker 1: he was doing with the Lady Gaga shit, the Rihanna shit,
- 27:27Speaker 1: even down to the j Dilla thing to some degree,
- 27:29Speaker 1: if that would have panned out better and he wasn't
- 27:33Speaker 1: who he was as a person, we would be like,
- 27:35Speaker 1: Charles SAMs is a genius.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He mastered the Internet first, Yes, exactly, and it's ahead
- 27:39Speaker 2: of his time.
- 27:40Speaker 1: And that's what's so crazy about the Internet and artists
- 27:42Speaker 1: like it just takes like one or two things that
- 27:44Speaker 1: can change your entire legacy from looking like a genius
- 27:47Speaker 1: to looking like an absolute one.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I always say that shit about riff Raff. I'm like, guys,
- 27:50Speaker 2: riff Raff was so ahead of the cloud era, like
- 27:53Speaker 2: he was like the original, like SoundCloud cloud rapper. He
- 27:56Speaker 2: was just doing this mother got a world star tattoo
- 27:59Speaker 2: of BT Tatty.
- 28:00Speaker 1: What is he like? What does he do now?
- 28:02Speaker 2: He still he's just joked like he looks like a
- 28:05Speaker 2: fucking bro. He looks like a gnarly wrestler bro, like
- 28:07Speaker 2: he's got a mullet and fucking shades. And I don't know, man.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I'd never really paid attention to riff Raff like that.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I always just loved his YouTube videos where he would
- 28:17Speaker 2: just like ramble because he would just say, like he's
- 28:20Speaker 2: genuinely like a fucking funny guy. Yeah, but I never, like,
- 28:24Speaker 2: you know, dived into riff Raff's music. I did DJ
- 28:28Speaker 2: for him once at Ultra in Miami.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Please let me know how that went, Like, how'd you
- 28:32Speaker 1: guys put the setlist together? Can he tell me the
- 28:33Speaker 1: green room? So I got hit up to what was
- 28:36Speaker 1: on the rider?
- 28:37Speaker 2: I don't know about that. He used the best I
- 28:39Speaker 2: was living in tamp at the time, and at the time,
- 28:42Speaker 2: Riffrass got a fucking uh I style shark grill naturally
- 28:48Speaker 2: right right right, So they needed a DJ. My boy
- 28:51Speaker 2: Mike Leberman was working with him, So I had a
- 28:53Speaker 2: DJ for him at Ultra and at the like, he's
- 28:57Speaker 2: performing a bunch of girls. He's got all these cutouts
- 29:00Speaker 2: of himself and his husky. He's got a husky that's famous.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Okay uh And then like on the fly, he decides
- 29:08Speaker 2: he wants to dj inn DM set like on my
- 29:10Speaker 2: computer with my library.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yeah so you had everything set up? No, I did it?
- 29:15Speaker 1: I know.
- 29:15Speaker 2: So you know, I'm trying to like talk him through,
- 29:18Speaker 2: like you know, there's like intro mix show, intro versions
- 29:21Speaker 2: of songs, and I'm like on the fly trying.
- 29:24Speaker 1: To, like hip hop DJ trying to teach someone who's
- 29:27Speaker 1: never DJ'ed how to do an DM set.
- 29:29Speaker 2: In the middle of during his set at home at
- 29:31Speaker 2: Ultra and it was perfect. It was a fucking mess.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Good guy though, Good guy.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Yeah, still stay in contact.
- 29:38Speaker 2: We haven't talked for a while. He's a nice guy though.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I like.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I like, well, if he lived in Chandler, Arizona for
- 29:41Speaker 2: a while, him is huskies.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Everything does go back to Arizona.
- 29:45Speaker 2: I guess they do.
- 29:46Speaker 1: What do you want from me? Man?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Ghost sons? But yeah, no shout out to refer you
- 29:50Speaker 2: know who else was a big what if for me?
- 29:52Speaker 1: Was x V Oh love x V Yeah?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Wow, I haven't that album? Yeah, XV was Dope, executive
- 29:58Speaker 2: produced by Just Blaze, Zero Heroes.
- 30:01Speaker 1: What did happen to x V?
- 30:03Speaker 2: I still follow him. He just put out some music,
- 30:05Speaker 2: but he had that he had Zero Heroes, which was.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So firey pre pre blog era. And I was talking
- 30:11Speaker 1: to Jeff and Eric about this. I don't think it
- 30:12Speaker 1: ever made you know on camera though. There was a
- 30:14Speaker 1: time when I thought Drake and Nicholas f were a
- 30:17Speaker 1: group because they they were because at a time, like
- 30:21Speaker 1: even before blogs per se, it was just like there
- 30:23Speaker 1: would just be websites where they would just post a
- 30:24Speaker 1: bunch of fucking music. There was like thirty five Drake
- 30:27Speaker 1: and Nicholas f shit And then Comeback Season came out
- 30:30Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, did they split up? Yeah?
- 30:31Speaker 1: What happened to that guy too? By the way, Nicholas
- 30:34Speaker 1: has been around, I actually think he was doing something
- 30:35Speaker 1: in media.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I remember point there was a random Fonte Drake record.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Was Nicholas f on it with them?
- 30:41Speaker 1: No, you're talking about think good Thoughts? That was not
- 30:43Speaker 1: a random record, relaxed. It's an incredible record.
- 30:46Speaker 2: It was like it was like a Lucy No.
- 30:48Speaker 1: It was on Comeback Season ninth to the beat L's
- 30:50Speaker 1: I think was supposed to be. There's an LZI verse
- 30:52Speaker 1: that didn't make it, I believe, and I'm really nerding
- 30:55Speaker 1: out now comeback season, think good thoughts. Fante Drake.
- 30:58Speaker 2: You have Fonte on this album I Do Yes, which
- 31:00Speaker 2: is like amazing, bigger than having Hove on it to me,
- 31:04Speaker 2: Little Brother my favorite.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Artist, and it's not even close.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Fante is a special guy. Uh, It's crazy how historically
- 31:12Speaker 2: slept on he is, how talented he is. He's amazing
- 31:15Speaker 2: singer too. You got him sing singing or rapping singing, Yeah,
- 31:17Speaker 2: because he could sing. He's what was the project he
- 31:20Speaker 2: was putting out for Exchange. This is very much Nicola
- 31:24Speaker 2: Nickolay was very talented. Yeah, other side on my album
- 31:28Speaker 2: is definitely Fante and shout out to be my Fiasco.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Who's sign of Fante? Extremely talented singer from North Carolina.
- 31:35Speaker 1: It's very much in the early Foreign Exchange house bag,
- 31:38Speaker 1: which was some of my favorite stuff. Like you know,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I was a rap NERD fan, but Little Brother as
- 31:43Speaker 1: far as like even the samples Ninth would pick or
- 31:46Speaker 1: Fonte getting into the Foreign Exchange bag kind of not
- 31:51Speaker 1: of course introduced me to R and B. But as
- 31:54Speaker 1: a young kid that was such a hip hop nerd.
- 31:55Speaker 1: It made me pay attention to it and start to
- 31:59Speaker 1: do the D dives I had done with the hip
- 32:02Speaker 1: hop shit and Yeah, so Fante being on this R
- 32:06Speaker 1: and B project is like such a full circle moment
- 32:08Speaker 1: because so much of what he was putting out when
- 32:11Speaker 1: I was twelve years old was on this album. Like
- 32:14Speaker 1: what I started to appreciate within R and B came
- 32:17Speaker 1: from that type of stuff.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Do you like Minstrel Show or listening more Mitchell Show?
- 32:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm allowed. I don't know either
- 32:23Speaker 1: of us are allowed to say.
- 32:24Speaker 2: That I like this. Oh, I mean yeah because the
- 32:26Speaker 2: name of the Ambu, But I fucking love Mitchell Listening,
- 32:29Speaker 2: of course is incredible and a classic. But as much
- 32:33Speaker 2: as I am their underground rap nerd fan, I am very.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Much just equally as big a fan of hip hop
- 32:43Speaker 1: that people would say isn't real hip hop like popular
- 32:45Speaker 1: hip hop? Right, I'm really into that type of stuff,
- 32:47Speaker 1: And the Minstrel Show to me, was the perfect balance
- 32:49Speaker 1: for Little Brother where they had to try some shit
- 32:52Speaker 1: where their their core fan base may not like, but
- 32:54Speaker 1: someone like me loves that shit, Like go to Atlantic,
- 32:57Speaker 1: go try to get.
- 32:57Speaker 2: A hit record because I like hit records. I'm not
- 33:01Speaker 2: that nerdy fans like, don't sell out, like not sell
- 33:03Speaker 2: out a little bit.
- 33:03Speaker 1: It could work. A hit. HiT's a hit for a reason.
- 33:06Speaker 1: It's you know, And I mean, of course they did,
- 33:08Speaker 1: but they ran into politics with loving it. But yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 1: to me, musically like minstrel show is perfect. The listening
- 33:15Speaker 1: is very much in that college dorm, which and you.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Kind of look like Joe Scutt a little, so you
- 33:20Speaker 2: probably were like, yo, Joe Scutta, Yes, I could make
- 33:22Speaker 2: it too.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Who who was a friend and everything? Guy walks around
- 33:27Speaker 1: with me.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And we've got a restaurant in Atlanta, right he does, Yeah,
- 33:29Speaker 2: shout to Joe Scuta.
- 33:31Speaker 1: And every time I go to his restaurant in Atlanta,
- 33:33Speaker 1: the staff always asked me if I'm related to m
- 33:36Speaker 1: every single time. You're Joe's cousin. No, just a fan.
- 33:42Speaker 2: That's big dad Fante on the project. You got drums
- 33:45Speaker 2: on there, yes, Ari Lennox. Who else is on this?
- 33:49Speaker 1: James Fonsbory is on the project. And I mean, can
- 33:54Speaker 1: I brag? Of course? Maybe I'm only when that finds
- 33:57Speaker 1: that fucking insane. I don't even know who that is.
- 34:00Speaker 1: You don't know who James Sponsor is. He's probably one
- 34:02Speaker 1: of the greatest writers of all time. Are you familiar
- 34:04Speaker 1: with Cocaine Eighties. Yeah, of course, he's a singer of Cocinadies.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Oh shit, see yeah, do you like the twenty twenty
- 34:10Speaker 1: Experience by Justini Cocain Eighties was the shit that No Idea,
- 34:13Speaker 1: No Idea produced.
- 34:14Speaker 2: This was with No Idea last night. That's crazy.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Let him know we won another Cocaine Eighties project. But yeah,
- 34:20Speaker 1: he also wrote all of twenty twenty Experience for Justin Timberlake.
- 34:23Speaker 1: He's from my favorite Justice Jilake album. Yeah, he's He's
- 34:27Speaker 1: a legend to me, and Cocaine Eighties is by far
- 34:30Speaker 1: one of my favorite groups, even though there is only
- 34:32Speaker 1: four mixtapes.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I remember, Yeah, those tapes were crazy and.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I was even looking up old tweets when we put
- 34:38Speaker 1: that record out, and it was kind of like a
- 34:40Speaker 1: really cool full circle moment. It made me like feel
- 34:43Speaker 1: a little stanish about the amount of times like I
- 34:45Speaker 1: was tweeting James Sponsorroy in twenty ten.
- 34:48Speaker 2: But yeah, it's crazy how long ago that is.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Bro.
- 34:50Speaker 2: If you think about like I was just talking to
- 34:53Speaker 2: my boy because I was we're talking about high school,
- 34:55Speaker 2: and I was like, bro, high school was twenty years ago,
- 34:58Speaker 2: twenty like that, sh it's crazy. This shit feels like
- 35:02Speaker 2: it was like six years ago. Like it's just terrifying
- 35:05Speaker 2: to look at what I thought for sure. You know,
- 35:08Speaker 2: I've had to delete so much shit on my Twitter
- 35:10Speaker 2: and not even on like the cancelation that's not what
- 35:12Speaker 2: I'm talking about, and no home was. I had to
- 35:15Speaker 2: take off my Twitter timeline.
- 35:16Speaker 1: That's one thing. Yeah, that's just a whole separate issue,
- 35:20Speaker 1: just looking at like just dumb shit, like you really
- 35:23Speaker 1: like you really thought you were smart at that age.
- 35:25Speaker 1: For sure. I was really talking very confidently on Twitter
- 35:28Speaker 1: at twenty one years old, like I really o the
- 35:30Speaker 1: world figured out for sure, and I was like judging
- 35:32Speaker 1: other people.
- 35:32Speaker 2: And the fashion ship was crazy, even like when you
- 35:34Speaker 2: guys did that blog air thing and the old boy
- 35:36Speaker 2: dressed he had the good Wood fucking yeah, I was like,
- 35:39Speaker 2: damn that was that was a wave, the Goodwood and
- 35:42Speaker 2: the fucking loud ass ten deep and had I had
- 35:46Speaker 2: a ten deep a long sleeve shirt on. Oh and
- 35:48Speaker 2: that man all that shit Snapa Castle was a diamond supply.
- 35:52Speaker 2: This yeah, the snapback ship it was fucking crazy.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Karma Loop era.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Karma Loop. I remember you go on that Karma Loop
- 36:00Speaker 2: to see what I would just get whatever it's on sale. Yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 2: they have like all little independent brands and shit. I
- 36:04Speaker 2: got so many random just hip hop tea's like rock
- 36:07Speaker 2: Smith and all that shit like that.
- 36:10Speaker 1: That was a fun era too. And I know where
- 36:12Speaker 1: we've been staying on the blog, Ara, but I don't mind.
- 36:14Speaker 1: When I was with Aristotle and by any means, we
- 36:16Speaker 1: had an office before we went in with Kevin Kwl.
- 36:19Speaker 1: We were in the Karmel Loop office for a year
- 36:22Speaker 1: and a half. Maybe I'm talking about like when the
- 36:24Speaker 1: Fat Jew was walking around way like when he was
- 36:28Speaker 1: a rapper and like his kid like Joey Badass and
- 36:31Speaker 1: his friends who were like in high school, would just
- 36:33Speaker 1: run a fucking muck like was Karmel Loop.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Was that a Boston thing?
- 36:38Speaker 1: It started out that way and then they went on
- 36:39Speaker 1: twenty seventh Street in the city when they got like
- 36:41Speaker 1: a lot of investors, and that's when we were in there.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And like, just thinking back, the office era is gone.
- 36:49Speaker 1: And I don't know if this is bad content, but
- 36:52Speaker 1: that Karma Loop office was a place for like all
- 36:53Speaker 1: creative kids, the ASAP kids were in there, The New
- 36:56Speaker 1: era kids were in there, running into people like Fat
- 36:59Speaker 1: Jew and Clyk. Clearly we see where he is now.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Pharrell would be in there, like just it was just
- 37:04Speaker 1: a spot to hang out, and even pre COVID, I
- 37:07Speaker 1: just don't think that happens, or maybe I just got
- 37:09Speaker 1: old and there is like even a Life was a
- 37:11Speaker 1: store in New York, but that was a place kids
- 37:13Speaker 1: hung out. Like there's no stores. Everything's gotten so fucking corporate.
- 37:19Speaker 2: There's just not a lot of kicking it anymore. Like
- 37:22Speaker 2: I was at an event. I was at Killer Mike's
- 37:23Speaker 2: album released party last night, and I was like, this
- 37:25Speaker 2: is one of the first times I've because I don't
- 37:27Speaker 2: be doing shit brouh Like if it ain't like Killer
- 37:29Speaker 2: Mike or something like I really fuck with or I
- 37:31Speaker 2: ain't getting paid, I'm just not there.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Like the last I saw and say what you will
- 37:35Speaker 1: about Adam twenty two, I'm not here to have any
- 37:37Speaker 1: of that conversation. But when I went to his like
- 37:40Speaker 1: compound that he has now, when Maul and I did
- 37:42Speaker 1: the show with him and ad I was like, that
- 37:44Speaker 1: was the last time people were just hanging out yeah.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I was like, damns, I missed when people did this.
- 37:49Speaker 2: You've been in the new spot, yeah anyway, and it
- 37:51Speaker 2: was just mad young kids hanging out, older people hanging out,
- 37:54Speaker 2: creatives hanging out.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Like that's those spaces don't exist anymore. I was happy
- 37:58Speaker 1: to see that when I went to No Jumper.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Year to do the fig Community World Today, right, yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 2: with the well eight spot. Yeah, that's that's the name
- 38:05Speaker 2: of the show Community World I.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Think, right, yeah, but it won't be at the No
- 38:08Speaker 1: Jumper No of course. I was like, now you've ben
- 38:12Speaker 1: keV No. It's like, I don't know if you missed it.
- 38:15Speaker 1: There was a there was a big thing.
- 38:17Speaker 2: It was a huge thing.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Yeah, which I mean I feel like I started that trend,
- 38:20Speaker 1: but you know.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Just breaking away.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Oh, these breakups are my sons.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I mean, listen. That's why when I interview I had
- 38:26Speaker 2: a D on the show him and t Rail right after,
- 38:29Speaker 2: and I was like, hey, man, I've known a D
- 38:32Speaker 2: for a very long time.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 2: I was like, you got really thick skin. I was like,
- 38:37Speaker 2: you mean to tell me you were planning this all along?
- 38:40Speaker 2: You You took so much offense to someone saying you
- 38:43Speaker 2: had the same three jokes that you said, fuck you,
- 38:46Speaker 2: I'm out.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I love. I don't know if you watched our episode
- 38:49Speaker 1: of the No Jumper AD break up clip, but I
- 38:54Speaker 1: said something very similar. I'm like, all right, I'm not
- 38:58Speaker 1: saying AD is not allowed to feel offended, but some
- 39:02Speaker 1: just isn't adding up.
- 39:03Speaker 2: You want to leave, bro, Yeah, something like you got
- 39:05Speaker 2: your out?
- 39:07Speaker 1: Yeah. And I even went as far as to say, like,
- 39:09Speaker 1: all right, if that's all that was said in my
- 39:12Speaker 1: last pot we'd still be potting for sure. I was
- 39:15Speaker 1: told not to show up to your son's birth way
- 39:17Speaker 1: different than hey, you make the same joke for like, bro,
- 39:19Speaker 1: what like you have thick skin?
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I've said worst thing. I've making fun of eighties
- 39:23Speaker 2: Veneers for five years since he got them, like on
- 39:26Speaker 2: the radio in La, Like yeah, I mean there's definitely
- 39:30Speaker 2: a compilation clip we can make of me talking about
- 39:32Speaker 2: eighties teeth. Whel was talking about him with Hannibal Burst
- 39:34Speaker 2: because Hannibal Burst, but I was on called Veneers and
- 39:36Speaker 2: I was like, have you seen AD's teeth?
- 39:38Speaker 1: What is I'm scared to click Hannibal rapping. I'm very
- 39:41Speaker 1: scared to click it. I'm a huge Hannibal Burst comedy fan.
- 39:44Speaker 1: So even when he would do his rap shit on stage,
- 39:47Speaker 1: when he would do his t pain shit on stage hilarious,
- 39:50Speaker 1: he did the mumble rap thing. I'm terrified and this
- 39:52Speaker 1: is crazy coming from me because I'm a podcaster that
- 39:55Speaker 1: he is talking about putting an album out on Friday.
- 39:57Speaker 1: So so I'm not taking away from his town. Yeah,
- 40:01Speaker 1: I'm just scared to click it.
- 40:02Speaker 2: So he put a song out called Veneers that is
- 40:06Speaker 2: like a more of a comedic angle. Okay, easing into it,
- 40:10Speaker 2: I get it. He played me some stuff that was
- 40:13Speaker 2: really good. I mean I was like, yo, you're he
- 40:16Speaker 2: I guess he's been rapping before he was doing comedy.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know he's always been a real real
- 40:21Speaker 1: hip hop fan. Like for the stuff he played me
- 40:23Speaker 1: was really good.
- 40:23Speaker 2: He has another song that's coming out called like I
- 40:26Speaker 2: Like Lift Weights. It's like a joke song. I mean,
- 40:30Speaker 2: it's cool, it's it's you know, we'll see.
- 40:32Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 40:33Speaker 2: He's gonna obviously run into issues of people taking him serious,
- 40:36Speaker 2: you know, but he.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Has to do like a Leakers freestyle or like a Sway. Yes,
- 40:40Speaker 1: like he just to he has to I understand easing
- 40:43Speaker 1: people in the five Fingers of Death or something exactly.
- 40:46Speaker 1: And like Shia lah Boof would have dropped an album
- 40:48Speaker 1: after he did sway, people would have been like, oh shit, let.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Me go check this Shia lah Boof album.
- 40:53Speaker 1: He kind of went crazy.
- 40:54Speaker 2: He went crazy on that ship. What happened after?
- 40:57Speaker 1: Like he was working wealth another Charles Hamilton's situation. Man
- 41:01Speaker 1: super talented people that unfortunately get in their own way
- 41:04Speaker 1: of things they probably can't control. But he but even
- 41:07Speaker 1: like Hannibal, I love that he's doing that. I hope
- 41:10Speaker 1: he doesn't go full like little Dicky with it, where
- 41:13Speaker 1: like every song is gonna be kind of a joke.
- 41:15Speaker 2: No, he played me some serious songs that were dope,
- 41:17Speaker 2: like he was really rappid.
- 41:18Speaker 1: But he should be able to do that. And I
- 41:20Speaker 1: mean kind of the same thing with my project, Like, yeah,
- 41:23Speaker 1: we are creative in one area, we can also be
- 41:25Speaker 1: creative in other places.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Like people are gonna always want to put you in
- 41:28Speaker 2: a little box.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and especially Hannibal is certified comedian, Like it's solidified.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Oh fucking I'm sure he's doing fine financially as well,
- 41:37Speaker 1: So why not go do some shit that you like,
- 41:41Speaker 1: like move on to the next thing. Still do comedy.
- 41:43Speaker 2: But that's what I mean. It's pretty much what he's saying.
- 41:45Speaker 2: He was like, now if I get booked for a
- 41:46Speaker 2: comedy show, like they know, they have to know, Like
- 41:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna also do some of my music. Yeah, you know,
- 41:50Speaker 2: like I'm gonna do the stand up thing, but I'm
- 41:53Speaker 2: gonna do some music.
- 41:54Speaker 1: And what I mean even podcasting, Like most of the
- 41:56Speaker 1: podcasters that are doing shit, we're doing stuff before we
- 42:00Speaker 1: didn't go to school for radio broadcasting. Like we're all
- 42:04Speaker 1: doing other shit and we're like, oh well, we have
- 42:06Speaker 1: good opinions, we know how to express ourselves. Let's do this.
- 42:09Speaker 1: This seems like a long form version of that for.
- 42:11Speaker 2: You guys, Like, uh, obviously you guys had never planned
- 42:15Speaker 2: to break away and do your own thing. It's gone
- 42:17Speaker 2: really really well despite not making.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Lists it think about hanging it up, but it's.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Gone really really well. You guys are doing a great job.
- 42:25Speaker 2: I feel like, you know, I think like I feel
- 42:29Speaker 2: like you guys each have like such a dope, like
- 42:31Speaker 2: nuanced perspective on a lot of shit. That's like I
- 42:33Speaker 2: just like to hear you guys talk about music, you
- 42:35Speaker 2: know what I mean. Don't feel like there's any hatershit
- 42:37Speaker 2: going on. But for you guys, like, how are you
- 42:41Speaker 2: guys approaching on the creator side, like the business of
- 42:45Speaker 2: this whole thing, because I'm sure once you get on
- 42:47Speaker 2: the other side of the curtain and you're like, oh,
- 42:50Speaker 2: this is how much money's out there? Yeah? For yo,
- 42:53Speaker 2: what up's Bootleg?
- 42:54Speaker 1: keV.
- 42:54Speaker 2: We got to stop the interview to tell you about
- 42:56Speaker 2: our folks at my Bookie.
- 42:57Speaker 1: That's right.
- 42:57Speaker 2: So many ways you can gamble with my Bookie right now. Man.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Of course, you got NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals, Eastern
- 43:02Speaker 2: Conference Finals, they're set. I love Celtics first Lakers in
- 43:06Speaker 2: the finals.

- 45:25Speaker 2: Let's get back to the interview.
- 45:28Speaker 1: We did it. We did a great, great deal with
- 45:31Speaker 1: Serious and Stitcher that I can't say enough good things about.
- 45:34Speaker 1: They've They've been really good. And it was a licensing deal.
- 45:36Speaker 1: We were able to own our entire catalog. Once the
- 45:41Speaker 1: deal is up, we can leave with our catalog a
- 45:43Speaker 1: lot of licensing deals. They'll hold your catalog for five
- 45:46Speaker 1: to ten years. Just like a platform. Is that a podcast?
- 45:48Speaker 1: So they're a big podcast platform that Sirius ended up purchasing. Yes,
- 45:54Speaker 1: so we're Stitcher. We have a deal with Stitcher, but
- 45:57Speaker 1: serious own Stitcher. So what does Stitcher get? So Stitcher
- 46:01Speaker 1: gets our content and they're able to license our just
- 46:03Speaker 1: our audio content, not our video, to advertisers that they
- 46:08Speaker 1: have within their network.
- 46:09Speaker 2: So you guys are able to monetize the audio aspect
- 46:13Speaker 2: of the podcast, which is a big deal because for
- 46:15Speaker 2: you guys, you're like, well share our brand and butters YouTube.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Yeah for sure, So we're gonna get.
- 46:18Speaker 2: This bag up here on the audio side, what are
- 46:20Speaker 2: we doing.
- 46:21Speaker 1: And we already know that the audio aspect unless you're
- 46:25Speaker 1: doing things like It's the Real with the blog era
- 46:27Speaker 1: or Cereal, like even like what Kenya Barris is doing
- 46:31Speaker 1: with like those you know voiceovers and listen to Bill
- 46:35Speaker 1: Simmons a lot, so much of where our genre is already,
- 46:39Speaker 1: Like I'm not saying anything that I'm not saying some
- 46:42Speaker 1: groundbreaking shit right now, everything's moving into visuals, So us
- 46:44Speaker 1: holding onto our visuals was very much important. But like
- 46:49Speaker 1: I was saying before of how I'd paused the album,
- 46:52Speaker 1: to get this ship up and running, it requires some capital.
- 46:56Speaker 1: And if we can give up our audio just on
- 46:59Speaker 1: the licensing side, so we can get this ship moving
- 47:01Speaker 1: and hire the right people and get the studios and
- 47:03Speaker 1: get equipment. Like that's especially with the window we had,
- 47:07Speaker 1: Like if you.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Guys had a window where it was like everyone's looking
- 47:10Speaker 2: at Rory and mall, what are they gonna do next?
- 47:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 47:12Speaker 2: So's it's so.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's funny to hear, you know, with the Internet,
- 47:15Speaker 1: with the checkchasing thing, which is, you know, people sound
- 47:18Speaker 1: smart to people that are dumb, so I don't even
- 47:20Speaker 1: really care to try to correct them in that regard,
- 47:23Speaker 1: but to checkchase in our situation is insane. Yes, we
- 47:27Speaker 1: did take a check for an audio licensing deal to
- 47:31Speaker 1: get some capital up and running. Like, so we have
- 47:34Speaker 1: our visual I'm not sure where we'll be when this
- 47:40Speaker 1: deal is done. But I have nothing bad to say
- 47:42Speaker 1: about Serious or Stitcher. I loved everything that we did
- 47:44Speaker 1: with them.
- 47:45Speaker 2: So they don't touch any of the YouTube revenue.
- 47:47Speaker 1: No, oh wow, so you're you're double none at all.
- 47:50Speaker 1: So yeah, it was. It was a great situation for
- 47:53Speaker 1: the time that we were in. But to your original question,
- 47:56Speaker 1: that also allowed us to see the landscape now that
- 47:59Speaker 1: we could kind of relaxed for a second while getting
- 48:02Speaker 1: our staff together, while getting our space together. Like you know,
- 48:06Speaker 1: I know we were on that pod for five six
- 48:08Speaker 1: years prior. That does get erased when you don't leave
- 48:14Speaker 1: with anything from it.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't take you're not taking anything.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I don't take a camera. I don't take the camera.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I don't take none of like and on top of that,
- 48:22Speaker 1: with podcasting, people don't talk about the synergy amongst the
- 48:26Speaker 1: camera guys, the editors, right the day to day people,
- 48:29Speaker 1: the managers. Like that's a big thing in itself too. Yes,
- 48:32Speaker 1: Maul and I have chemistry because we were on a
- 48:34Speaker 1: pod for so long. You can put a mic in
- 48:35Speaker 1: front of us and I'm confident we can get great content.
- 48:38Speaker 1: But to take it to the next level, that requires
- 48:40Speaker 1: building a team. That's that's why podcasting is so valuable
- 48:44Speaker 1: because there's so much chemistry. That's what people are attracted
- 48:46Speaker 1: to that happens behind the camera.
- 48:48Speaker 2: For sure.
- 48:48Speaker 1: That chemistry is not just on the microphone, so that
- 48:51Speaker 1: took some time as well, and that takes capital too.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Like the type of people that I want to work
- 48:56Speaker 1: with aren't going to work off a dollar and a dream,
- 48:59Speaker 1: and they wouldn't wouldn't want to do that to them.
- 49:01Speaker 1: So yeah, I thought our our serious deal was the
- 49:04Speaker 1: perfect thing to take. And it wasn't the most amount
- 49:07Speaker 1: of money. Like we have higher offers for licensing deals
- 49:10Speaker 1: that I did not think worked best for the situation
- 49:14Speaker 1: that we were in. The wanted to own more, they
- 49:16Speaker 1: wanted more. In some cases there was companies that wanted
- 49:18Speaker 1: to own some, but in other cases there was people
- 49:21Speaker 1: I just felt wouldn't license our content in the best way.
- 49:25Speaker 1: And I'm not going down to the.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Ads for say like blue Cheo and ship, but just
- 49:30Speaker 2: how they would deal with Wait a second, Oh no,
- 49:32Speaker 2: we're big shout out to blue Shoe, Bluetoo dot com,
- 49:35Speaker 2: keyword boole.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Oh no, our podcast is the Blue Live crew, you
- 49:38Speaker 1: know not?
- 49:38Speaker 2: Oh I love the Blue schooe man.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Yeah no, we just wan we pop the even when
- 49:41Speaker 1: we don't have you know, just where a dick just
- 49:45Speaker 1: wake up in the morning with that Blue Shoo dick man.
- 49:48Speaker 1: But even with the higher money. I just some of
- 49:52Speaker 1: those companies I didn't feel like I wanted to be
- 49:54Speaker 1: in business with. They need to do more serious made
- 49:57Speaker 1: the most sense with the amount of freedom we would get,
- 49:59Speaker 1: capital we would get, the time the deal was, and
- 50:02Speaker 1: what we had to turn over in the small window
- 50:04Speaker 1: we had. So, you know, I love the narratives that
- 50:06Speaker 1: have been put out there. I laugh at them too.
- 50:08Speaker 2: I'm a big I'm on Reddit all the time as well,
- 50:10Speaker 2: Like I see everything and content of course not that's
- 50:15Speaker 2: not my algorithm, my lack of my lack of responding
- 50:20Speaker 2: does not make something true. And I know me saying
- 50:24Speaker 2: that does not matter to the internet, but I don't care.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Is there Like so the only Reddit thing I jumped
- 50:30Speaker 2: into was the no jumper reddit.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Oh that's that's that's nicey, It's a nasty place.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Well because I so, I was hit up by Adam
- 50:38Speaker 2: to do the first show without a D and T rail.
- 50:43Speaker 2: This was the day that he fired Lush on camera.
- 50:47Speaker 2: He hits me up and he's like, hey man, you
- 50:49Speaker 2: down to do the show tomorrow And I was like,
- 50:51Speaker 2: I've been on the show before, So I was like, yeah, okay, whatever,
- 50:54Speaker 2: no idea. You know, then I see oh, this will
- 50:57Speaker 2: fire Lush on camera today. So I call a d
- 51:00Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, man, uh, what's going on over there?
- 51:03Speaker 2: He's like, bro about to fuck quit? And I was
- 51:06Speaker 2: like what the fuck? I was like, what am I
- 51:07Speaker 2: walking into. He's like, dude, just do it, just do it,
- 51:10Speaker 2: you know. I was like, all right, So I do it.
- 51:11Speaker 2: And everyone's assuming like I'm the replacement. Yeah, and I'm like, dude,
- 51:16Speaker 2: I'm not the replacement. But they were eating me alive
- 51:18Speaker 2: on Reddit.
- 51:19Speaker 1: It was hilarious. Of course. I mean, of course they're
- 51:21Speaker 1: going to do that. I'm shocked they didn't. Paul's eat
- 51:24Speaker 1: Adam more on that because in the Lush and a
- 51:26Speaker 1: d thing, there was also the white supremacist thing was
- 51:29Speaker 1: going on.
- 51:30Speaker 2: There was like the joke about the slave owners.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Yeah, there was a lot of shit. So like throwing
- 51:35Speaker 1: me or you as like the replacement probably wasn't the
- 51:38Speaker 1: best move. And I feel and I feel for Adam,
- 51:41Speaker 1: not on that side, but I think I feel for
- 51:44Speaker 1: him as far as like shit, just one day, a
- 51:47Speaker 1: whole operation is moving and then you lose that then
- 51:50Speaker 1: and then I have empathy for Adam and me too,
- 51:53Speaker 1: me too.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Sure, I told him, I said, dude, you're fucking mentally strong, brother,
- 51:57Speaker 2: because during that time there was every was like fuck
- 52:01Speaker 2: no Jumper, And then that dude rolled up there on
- 52:03Speaker 2: the live stream with that old ass ship that he
- 52:05Speaker 2: had already put the bed and rehashed that, and it
- 52:07Speaker 2: was just.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Like, but that's that's a tough shit outside of everything
- 52:12Speaker 1: that stuff with the internet. To some degree, when people
- 52:15Speaker 1: have been waiting for your downfall, they're waiting, they will
- 52:18Speaker 1: make small things into the largest thing ever, and even
- 52:22Speaker 1: when things passed, the next time, a small thing will happen.
- 52:25Speaker 1: That's why I did everything, Like I'm.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Not understand like Joe grilling him so bad because I
- 52:30Speaker 2: was like, dude, really did I thought it was appropriate?
- 52:34Speaker 1: I just did.
- 52:35Speaker 2: I just was like, I just feel like if people
- 52:38Speaker 2: wanted to like rehash old shit, like like you know,
- 52:41Speaker 2: like if somebody wanted to be a dick, there's a
- 52:43Speaker 2: lot of old Joe buddonshit that is like hearsay or whatever,
- 52:45Speaker 2: sure that people could just stir up if they ever
- 52:47Speaker 2: wanted to, you know what I mean.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I didn't. It was on whatever the radio. Yeah, No,
- 52:53Speaker 1: I did listen to it. I was I thought, Uh,
- 52:55Speaker 1: I didn't think Joe was harsh on him. I thought
- 52:58Speaker 1: it was appropriate if you were going to have Adam
- 52:59Speaker 1: on your show at that time address you and Joe
- 53:02Speaker 1: would look even crazier. If you're trying to get the
- 53:05Speaker 1: guy that all the attention is on right now for clicks,
- 53:08Speaker 1: and then you don't, and then you don't, you look
- 53:11Speaker 1: fucking nuts. So I didn't think they're But also why
- 53:14Speaker 1: I and I'm a hypocrite a lot. I try not
- 53:16Speaker 1: to grill people on a lot of stuff because to
- 53:20Speaker 1: your point, like not to degree of like racism or something,
- 53:23Speaker 1: but we all have our shit so and we're all
- 53:25Speaker 1: gonna have our moments, especially in this world. I'm not
- 53:29Speaker 1: one of those people in the media that protects each
- 53:31Speaker 1: other like I'm in the middle. There there's some people
- 53:35Speaker 1: that are like, we're all media, we can't post bad
- 53:37Speaker 1: things about us because like we don't want to get
- 53:39Speaker 1: to war. I think that's corny as fuck for sure,
- 53:41Speaker 1: But also going super in on someone for small mistakes
- 53:45Speaker 1: if some things are inexcusable. For sure, I'm not big
- 53:49Speaker 1: on just doing that, and maybe that's probably not good
- 53:52Speaker 1: in the content game for me to feel that way.
- 53:54Speaker 1: I should do that for content purposes, but I just
- 53:59Speaker 1: I have my own shit. Like, yeah, I'm just not
- 54:03Speaker 1: gonna fucking scream at someone when they make a mistake.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I've done it before, I don't get me wrong, But
- 54:07Speaker 1: at this point in my life, you feel like you've
- 54:09Speaker 1: grown No, just in perspective.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Perspective is important. I just saw you. I didn't know
- 54:16Speaker 2: you had a daughter until I saw the video you
- 54:17Speaker 2: just posted.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Yes, I mean I didn't even send you the album
- 54:20Speaker 1: by accident, so I didn't send the ultra sound No.
- 54:22Speaker 1: So how old is your daughter? A little over three months?
- 54:27Speaker 2: Well, congratulation, thank you. Has that changed your life drastically?
- 54:31Speaker 2: I mean obviously besides like waking up? But has it
- 54:33Speaker 2: like some people? I mean, listen, I have a son
- 54:35Speaker 2: that's eighteen. I had him when I was well, he's
- 54:38Speaker 2: about to be eighteen. I had him when I was eighteen,
- 54:41Speaker 2: So I had him when I was eighteen. But that,
- 54:43Speaker 2: you know, it was so long ago. I couldn't like
- 54:46Speaker 2: I just was like trying not to be poor and
- 54:48Speaker 2: be homeless, you know, understandable, So like I don't know
- 54:51Speaker 2: like that like that, what does that do for you? Like? Mentally,
- 54:55Speaker 2: it's weird. I used to look at like parents when
- 54:58Speaker 2: they would say, like memb like corny basic ship about kids.
- 55:04Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, I'm sure it's that way at ye,
- 55:07Speaker 2: but I it makes me stop. It like reminds me
- 55:10Speaker 2: of joy, just like there's looking at her makes me
- 55:13Speaker 2: stop where I never would have stopped. Like that's the
- 55:16Speaker 2: surface level of how it's changed my life.
- 55:18Speaker 1: It's like little moments. I lacked little moments in my
- 55:22Speaker 1: life until her. Of course, She's the biggest moment that
- 55:27Speaker 1: created little moments in my life that I never had before,
- 55:30Speaker 1: and like makes me re observe everything. Like I sound
- 55:35Speaker 1: like the corny parent now that I'm sound like. I'm
- 55:36Speaker 1: walking her a stroller, looking at her, and she's looking
- 55:39Speaker 1: up at trees and I'm like, fucking trees, remember those?
- 55:43Speaker 1: And she is just amazed by ship. So I don't
- 55:46Speaker 1: know if it's selfish to say this, but it also
- 55:48Speaker 1: has allowed me to like be reintroduced to so much
- 55:52Speaker 1: things within these three months of watching her observe other
- 55:56Speaker 1: ship that I've had around me forever. It makes me
- 56:00Speaker 1: even appreciate shit a bit more. Like just her curiosity
- 56:05Speaker 1: of everything makes me feel weird.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Do you feel like because I always say to myself,
- 56:10Speaker 2: I'm like, Okay, I go to New York City. Like
- 56:13Speaker 2: when I go to New York, I'm always like I
- 56:16Speaker 2: like it, and I can never fucking live here. This
- 56:18Speaker 2: is fucking insane.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Like I say the same thing about other really.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Yeah, so I go to New York and I'm like,
- 56:24Speaker 2: everyone's running on each other.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Everyone.
- 56:26Speaker 2: I mean, I appreciate everyone's on a fucking grind. They're
- 56:28Speaker 2: going to work, they're fucking just you know, mission to
- 56:30Speaker 2: wherever they gotta go. But I'm always like I could never, Like,
- 56:34Speaker 2: I'm sure raising a kid in New York, you're raising
- 56:37Speaker 2: a strong fucking kid no matter what, because they got
- 56:39Speaker 2: to deal with shit that nobody else in the US
- 56:40Speaker 2: really has to deal with in terms of just going
- 56:42Speaker 2: to school. Yeah, for sure, going to the grocery store
- 56:44Speaker 2: or whatever.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Would you pull the transportation?
- 56:47Speaker 2: Having it makes you a.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Man having a woman daughter, are you like we might
- 56:53Speaker 1: need to get like out the city a little bit.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's such a different New York than the
- 56:58Speaker 1: one I know, Like she would be raising a way
- 57:01Speaker 1: way different New York. But yes, it has crossed my
- 57:05Speaker 1: mind and my entire life.
- 57:09Speaker 2: I was never gonna leave New York, New Jersey, Jersey
- 57:12Speaker 2: was as far as you know, I just bought a
- 57:13Speaker 2: crib in Jersey.
- 57:14Speaker 1: That's as far as I was going to venture off.
- 57:18Speaker 1: It's changed within these three months.
- 57:21Speaker 2: Maybe Atlanta's not so bad.
- 57:22Speaker 1: And it was it was funny. Let me name drop.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Pardon if I if I dropped the name. I was
- 57:27Speaker 1: talking with Al Branch when we went down. We went
- 57:31Speaker 1: down to Atlanta to shoot some stuff I think for
- 57:34Speaker 1: BT and we used his studio, him and Tez the studio,
- 57:38Speaker 1: and he was telling me, he was like, I've some
- 57:39Speaker 1: queens my whole life, Like I never wanted to leave.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I was never gonna leave, even when the music industry
- 57:44Speaker 1: started to leave New York. I was holding strong. And
- 57:48Speaker 1: he said, my daughters, Nah, I had I had to
- 57:52Speaker 1: get out. Like the schools are better here. I love
- 57:54Speaker 1: being able to just go pick them up, drive off
- 57:57Speaker 1: like they're around fresh air all the time, like they
- 57:59Speaker 1: can just explore Like it's just it's just a different perspective.
- 58:04Speaker 1: And I fill them on that. I think it could
- 58:07Speaker 1: happen La. No, because I think La is just the
- 58:09Speaker 1: same as New York, just with palm trees.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Well, there's the valley Valley. Well, I was always shitting
- 58:16Speaker 2: on La, not La, the city La. The transplant La,
- 58:21Speaker 2: not LAA. Oh yeah, Transplant La so obnoxious.
- 58:24Speaker 1: But that's where if I were to move to l
- 58:27Speaker 1: A at that time, I would have been around Transplant.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Then I got to know a lot of people that
- 58:31Speaker 1: grew up in LA grew up in the valley, and
- 58:34Speaker 1: I saw a whole nother side of it where I
- 58:36Speaker 1: was like, Okay, I understand why people think this is
- 58:38Speaker 1: the greatest city in the world. Not a place that
- 58:41Speaker 1: I would move or bring my kid. But I have
- 58:45Speaker 1: eased up on l A. I've explored around and really
- 58:47Speaker 1: got to know. I was in West Hollywood for like
- 58:49Speaker 1: five years. I would just come land work, and if
- 58:52Speaker 1: you're only in.
- 58:52Speaker 2: West Hollywood, you're like, this is like there's billboards everywhere.
- 58:55Speaker 2: There's my safe haven with Saddle Ranch, Like that's all
- 58:58Speaker 2: that's why trashy for mean, look at me.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Don't let it my parents. I'm like, my parents.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Are coming to LA and they're like, we gotta go somewhere.
- 59:06Speaker 2: I'm assuming, just assuming stereotype of my own parents. They'd
- 59:09Speaker 2: be like that sound Ranch places, they got a bull
- 59:11Speaker 2: in there, Let's check that out.
- 59:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I was with Jelly Roll at Saddle Ranch like a
- 59:16Speaker 2: year ago, like singing carry country karaoke. We brought the
- 59:20Speaker 2: whole team there for our last LA show and Edon
- 59:23Speaker 2: rolled the bulls, Maris rolled the bull.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Everyone rolled the bull.
- 59:25Speaker 2: Yeah, there's other areas, but then obviously downtown is a
- 59:29Speaker 2: fucking wild place.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Shit. Reason brought me around like Carson Area. Yeah. Recently
- 59:34Speaker 1: stay outro on the album right yes, uh, that we
- 59:37Speaker 1: produced with Bank and one of my favorite producers, Bieriod
- 59:41Speaker 1: Legend Coleman, who did the intro on Cole's eighty five South.
- 59:47Speaker 1: I think that's the right name. Shout out to eighty
- 59:51Speaker 1: five South.
- 59:52Speaker 2: That's the one with Cameron on it. Right, yes, ninety
- 59:53Speaker 2: five North, great song.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Coleman produced that boy Wonder he's to me one of
- 59:57Speaker 1: the probably the most talented new producer that I think
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: everyone is going to really gravitate too soon. Even when
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Bank started on it, I sent it over to Coleman
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to help us out with like keys and other stuff,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: and Bank was like, Yo, can I sign him?
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Like who?
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: This kid is incredible? So yeah, Bank Coleman. Reason sobering
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: thoughts in the Mandren and actually came from a conversation
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: reason that I had when he was dropping me off
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: at the mandre On and we sat in the car
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: and talked for like an hour and a half and
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I was like, oh, one of the best. I was
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: like this. We had another song called reasonable Ending, which
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: I think might be licked on YouTube. At this point
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: people had heard it, and I said, we got to
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: redo this, like, let's let's get a whole new beat,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: let's start this conversation we just had needs to be
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the outro. And Drake actually DM me and said, with
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: a Drake ass title like that, there better be bars
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: on it. I don't think we disappointed. I think reason
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: went crazy on the shit.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: But yeah, reply and say next album I got something
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: for Yeah.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: No, no, because I wouldn't play myself in that regard.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I just don't think that's how Drake features work. Drake,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: he's a nice guy, super nice guy. He owes me
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: a lot of money, but he's a nice guy. Oh yeah,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: don't you guys have some bet heves me.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Money fifty thousand dollars. Yeah, they'll never pay it. Because
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: I don't strike Drake as the guy. To remember our
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: conversation with me and Freddy Gibson, this guy at a bar, well.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: He has a he has steak.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Now he can't give you like a voucher for fifty
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: grand fucking sweet, so you could bet your own I
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: could lose it. Yeah, the Suns. You just got to
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: go to Turk. Doc rivers, bitch asks because I'm sure
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: he'll my luck. He'll be the next fucking coach and
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: I want to kill myself.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Drake isn't low by staying in Turks. I know it's
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: a beautiful island.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: There's does he live in Turks?
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: It appears that way, and I'm just gonna go for
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: tax reasons. But that's just me. Dude. He bets like
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: a million a day, and I'm like, you can't do that.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: And my thing, you can't do that in New York.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Listen my thing with the Steak, then you have to
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: do that in.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Turks, so listen especially for sure, for sure, my thing
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: with Steak is why is everyone on Steak that I
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: see betting like astronomical like that out boys and Drake
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: and I'm like, are they giving them this fucking money?
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: I mean, it could work in a strip club type
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: of way because a lot of times, like if you know,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: rappers will be booked for a strip club, and they
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: will give them a certain amount of give but you
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: have to throw these like it'll go back to the club,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: back to the club. It's for optics. So I could
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: definitely see a world where Steak would give popular people
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: a crazy credit where you're not gonna win and you're
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: not gonna pull this out. No, you could bet. You
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: could bet it all and lose, you'll be fine, but
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: if you win, you're not gonna get the money. I
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: could see that's good pr especially with the betting world.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Now that's the new face. Jay Z's trying to put
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Caesars in Times Square.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: What's your favorite Drake album? Uh? Nothing was the same
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: mine too. Yeah, I'll probably say that you think Drake
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: has a classic, I would say Nothing was the same
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: as a classic album. Do you think it's like a
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: lack a good Kid, Mad City, doggy style Garritchard Dyke
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: trying classic or you think it's like a classic to you?
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Because to me it's a classic. But I would say it.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: I would say take Care would be that club. If
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: you were gonna talk good Kid, Mad City, I'll talk
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: about me personally.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Me personally, I agree, and I think take Care.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Is a classic album that deserves to be putting those
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: good kids get rich. Of course, absolutely, it defined a time,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: a sound. It is what it checks every box of
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: a classic. Okay, you can maybe argue it's not a
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: rap album, but it's a classic album.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: It's a great album.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: And they got to stop putting The Weekend did that whole? Why?
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Why did why did we all say that the wait?
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Wait would that theory.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: That the Weekend did to take care? You know when
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: they try to shit on Drake and they put for
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: each person, like Quentin did this one, and we like
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Weekend did vocals on the Ultro.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: I love the Weekend.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Meanwhile we say he wrote the whole album.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Yo, you're an R and B guy, right, So, like
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: I think about like the dark ages of R and
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: B that produced guys like Frank Ocean in the Weekend,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: because we have this like weird era of R and
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: B where like Neo was doing fist pump like fucking
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: anthems with pit Bull and fucking Chris Brown and Usher
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: was saying home my God, where I am just doing
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: all this fun just terrible pop records that were all
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: over the fucking radio. Trey songs didn't budge, I don't
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: remember a Trey Song's e DM song.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: But there might be one. But Tray at that time
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: was doing like actually really dope R and B mixtapes.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: For sure, he was keeping.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: But I feel like out of that we did get
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: like the Frank Ocean and the weekend shit. At that
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: same time, it was like House of Balloons.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: The summer of twenty eleven, we got Nostalgia Ultra, we
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: got House of Balloons, and we got Cocaine eighties. That's
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: that changed. And then shortly after that.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Miguel had some dope. I mean, Miguel's album was crazy
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: at that time.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Oh, Kaleidoscope Dreams incredible, but that was more like Channel
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Orange time. I think, well was all I was saying.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: But even the first album, all I wanted was dope
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: we had.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: And then I'm saying more so like what kind of
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: defined the way we're talking about the blog era When
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: it came to R and B. It was Frank, Cocaine eighties,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: the Weekend and then Janey was putting out her mixtapes
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: at that time, And that, I mean to me is
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: the genre of what this moody, dark to somebody whispering
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: R and B is, which I know a lot of
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: R and B people shit on this new sound of
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: R and B. I don't. I think R and B
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: is an amazing place. And if you look, there's people
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: that can really sing. The's people that can make really
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: good music. There's people that can make dark, moody, whispery
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: shit that I like too. Like it doesn't have to
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: be defined just by the vocalists. I think we need
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: to take care of our vocalists. They are the unicorns
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: and we need them all the time. But that doesn't
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: mean we have to shit on everyone that can make
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: great records when they're whispering.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: I was gonna say, there's like this huge obviously, with
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: what happened at Coachella, a lot of people are down
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: on Frank Ocean rightfully. You know, I get it. Yeah,
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: for sure, he fucking did a half assed I'm so
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: glad I was. My son's a huge Frank Ocean fan.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I'm so glad I was about to do the whole weekend.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: I'm so glad my tickets did not come through because
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: I was like, you see your fucking this is your
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: savior on stage with a fucking DJ doing a random
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: set for thirty minutes in the king.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: What is this is your fucking king right here?
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: But I still love Frank, But I feel like, do
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: you feel like we over like like we hold him
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: in a higher regard than we should based on like
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: the amount of music that's actually out. Well, it also
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: tells you, of course how good that music was.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I mean, he's one of the few artists in this
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: era that did the mystique things so well that we
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: don't know his asterisks like we have. We know all
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: of Chris Brown's asterisks, we do all all, but you
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: have to at least Chris Brown has given us himself,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: whether music personally, for everything, for good or bad. He's
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: constantly put music out, He's constantly performing, he's constantly trying
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: new things like that's great, but Frank hasn't done that,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: and which is fine.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: He had to put out like a fifteen thousand dollars
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: cock ring, Okay, well, I mean he did entrepreneur. He
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: put out a piece of dick jewelry entrepreneurs interesting this year.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: But I have a weird, weird thoughts on that too,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: because I think we still need those few mysterious artists.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Like I still like that because I grew up in
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: that era where it was like you didn't know the
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: artists and they gave you an album and then they
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: disappeared for three years and then they came back. Like
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: that's ill if you can do that now. And Frank
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: has a masterclass in that regard. But it makes moments
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: like Coachella super magnified if and you deserve all the
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: critique you get from it because you only pop up
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: every now and then. So when you pop up, you
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: have to make it your best. Like we waited forever
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: from Channel Orange to Blonde. He delivered on Blonde. He
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: kept that mystique and that legend going. So when you're
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: about to do Coachella, we assume, if you're gonna do Coachella,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: you've been rehearsing for a year. You don't pop out
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: unless it's gonna be something.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you would expect like this is gonna be insane,
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: and I assume that there'd be music with it, like
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: if you're gonna pop out and do something.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I don't think Frank is low on money. I don't.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know his habits. I think the
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: cock Ring probably did well. I don't know did he
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: partner with bluech You.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe promokoo like three months.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: It's just when you when you disap and have that
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: luxury of disappearing and having so much, so much anticipation
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: when you just tweet hey, you have to deliver when
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: it's time to and he did not deliver. So nah,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: he deserves the critique he's gotten. He's a legend in
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: my opinion when it comes to music. He's one of
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: my favorite dude.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: But I mean, I love Channel Orange. Blond was one
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: of those ones that had to grow on me.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: It grew on me. I didn't like Blonde when it
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: first came out.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Let me, it's almost like Season two of The Wire.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: You know, sure, that's a all right, I'm not mad
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: at that comparison. You know you wat Season two with
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: The Wire. Who all these fucking white dudes at the
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: fucking pier? You know, like, oh no, I love Season
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: two of The Wire.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Now, like Blonde, initially I didn't hate, but I wasn't
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: a huge fan of it. As the years went, it's
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: one of the best written albums. I think when I
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: got to my late twenties, around like twenty nine, almost
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: probably going to thirty, I was like, this is this
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: is the definition of someone transitioning from their twenties to
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: their thirties, right, Like, the writing on that album is
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: fucking incredible. It's a rap album, almost down to what
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Scissor did with sos Of, just like how much her
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: pen is all over that crazy the way Solange would
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: seated at the table where it's just like, this isn't
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: just R and B. There's so much fucking words and
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: content in this. It's not just melody driven, it's not
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: drum driven. This is a pen Blonde is that to me?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: It's one of the best written albums I've ever heard,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: but it took me years to get there. Yeah.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: I feel like because you're just you just expect something different.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: There's not a wasted syllable on Blonde, and it took
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: me a while to realize that. But I was saying,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: coming off Channel Orange, give me a snare, like what
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: the fuck? And he gave us Knights. Oh no, No,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Knights did come out with it, but that was the
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: one that they pushed and that was the first one
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: we heard, so I assume the rest of the album
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: would be like Knights, And I was like, I have
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: not heard a fucking kick yet. But it's it's a classic.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: You've been putting out visualizers for the album, Uh, what
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: for you? Because I saw one of them that was inspired.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: What was the Robin Williams movie One Hour Photo where
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: he's a crazy fucking It's an underrated movie.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: It's it's one of my favorite Robin Williams films ever.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Rest in Peace to the God Man.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Do you ever see him Robin Williams live on Broadway
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: the stand up?
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: No, I haven't.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: It's fucking amazing.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: But all his material huh, all his material, I don't know.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: I don't see I don't know the nuances of like
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: if he had people writing his jokes now.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: But I'm a Robin Williams movie fan.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: I can't say I've ever deeped out into Statch. Adams
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: was fire fair, fucking tear jerker man. Yeah, but what
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: like even like Jack?
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Jack was solid. Jack was good, not as wait wait,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: he might have started the pronoun waves somehow.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: What was the uh the one with fucking God damn
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: it never mind, We're not even gonna go down that.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Way, Jimi.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no no, no. Jack made me think
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: if I.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Am Sam for some reason. No, that's Sean Penn.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: I know, I know that's why, never mind, But no,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: I wasn't asking when it comes to your visuals, like,
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: obviously you're not do are you? You're not doing the
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: like I guess normal music video route. You're doing more
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: visualizers you do it. It feels like they're more like art pieces.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Well again, initially back to me saying I never really
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: wanted to be too forward facing with it. The initial
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: idea with the visualizers, we're gonna be narrative based with actors.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Maybe I would be an easter egg, like I'd be
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: the person working at the deli, right, and the artists
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: would also be just bigger easter eggs, but it would
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: be very much narrative driven. And just like with this albums,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: as far as scheduling dates and how difficult that became,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I was like, all right, I might have to get
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: out of my comfort zone and just do a proper
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: visualizer because I can't get everyone on the same page.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Like even I'm sure that's the hardest part about doing
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: an album like this. Different people's schedules. Getting people in person
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: at the same time.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: And not even making the album is way easier than
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: every artist's release schedule because everyone's pitching to the same playlist.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Everyone needs four or five weeks if their label is
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I've an incredible in Missago record, but it just doesn't
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: work with timing. And that's I consider Misago a friend
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: and we would put it out if it made sense
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: for his career too. He's got a record out, we
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: can't put another one because it him be primary, like right,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: it'll push push. That was the most difficult thing when
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: it came to putting this out, but with visuals as well.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: So I've just tried to run through shit. I love
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: growing up and One Hour Photo was one of those
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: those things that I felt was something we could recreate.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: And I mean there's metaphors within that entire thing, which
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: I didn't even really discuss with I did with Raven
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: who's one of my best friends, Ravy B who directed it.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: I didn't really discuss with her my idea of what
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: the metaphor of that entire thing is, and it's almost
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: down to a Reddit thing. One Hour Photo is about
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: a guy that is obsessed with a family, just develops
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: photos and he feels like he's a part of that family,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: and he gets so obsessed over it that he damn
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: near wants to kill the husband when he makes a
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: mistake of keeping that family going. So while I played
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Robin Williams in that that visualizer, the fans are Robin Williams.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: They are. That was more reddit, guys. That was more
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: so down from from Lipstick Alley down, like and we
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: do have a rory and mall like sub robe for sure,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: I'm in there too. I talk. It's pretty, it's pretty
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: pretty gnarly. I mean, it's not like mixed toxic. Definitely
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: not no jumper toxic. It's a mixed bag. But yeah,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: that visualizer was was more so I saw all the
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: theories of like it had to do with my past relationship,
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: and she moved on. No, that was about y'all. And
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: that's why I thought it was so funny that the
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: theories that they came up were just so off and
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: were so much about me and my personal life. It
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: proved my fucking point that this visualizer, you guys think,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: you guys know that was y'all in the glasses walking
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: around with my dog, like you guys have felt, you
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: guys are a part of my private life. So that's
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: what that visualizer.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: That is funny because and I never spoke about that.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: This is the first time I talk you guys do
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: have some crazy fans. That's why I always like tell
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: like I'm always like, you know, I do interviews and
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: I want to start doing like more just like non
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: interview content. But I also don't want people to care
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: about me that much. I like consciously, like I'm very
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: conscious about like I don't want people to really give
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: a fuck that much about me.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: But we can also be honest, and I know most
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: people want tomit this. We also need them to. People
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: talk a lot of shit about my personal life and
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: it is what it is. If they stop, what does
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: that say? Yeah, I mean that's fair. It's part of
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: the gig.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: Part of it. It's part of the gig. I can
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: just move accordingly and do visualizers like enough, Like that's
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: why I feel better about it. Like there was like
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: times where me and Adam are like Adam was talking
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: about bringing me to No Jumper to do like a
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: weekly show with them, and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: I don't want people to care that much brouh, Like,
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: I don't want I don't need that fucking I don't
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: need those guys. Yeah, Like things are going pretty well, right, now.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: I mean, obviously I'm trying to scale, I'm trying to
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: do it for shit, but I'm like, man, those fucking
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: those guys are fucking they're in your shit, like posting
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: your girl and shit, and I'm like, I couldn't do it.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I mean, that's even with the kid thing. I mean,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: I I put the IG clip out. It's funny calling
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: it the kid thing. You know, fatherhood that was a
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: big thing I was had to figure out after like
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: it had set in and I started to get in
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: the rhythm of being a father. Was all right, I
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: have a podcast, and I already see people on Reddit
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: and all these other shits talking about it, like because
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: I wasn't hot. I was like walking around with my kid.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: If you saw me, you saw my child.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Like, but people are already talking about it and every.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone around me knew even Yeah, it wasn't anything
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: hidden per se, but in the podcast world, it wasn't
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: something I was talking about. Yeah, you guys are so
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: obsessed with personal shit. Fuck it. When I put an
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: album out, I'm eventually going to talk about my kid.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Quite a perfect time. The amount of people that were like,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: this piece of shit is using as kid as y'all
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: are the reason why you guys forced my hand and
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I would have talked about it probably earlier, but no,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: let's fuck it.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Gotta stop the interview real quick to tell you about

- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Yes, well we weren't talking about that.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Ah, dude, let me ask you this you got cause
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: I've been going through this a little bit more recently
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: where I've had like fan bases like, come at me crazy.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I've had like the little Kim fans thousands of tweets
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: in like twenty four hours just on my fucking head. Yeah,
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: and then recently the Dirk fans, which is crazy.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: What do you say about Dirk?
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: Nothing?
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Crazy?
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Me and the kids from uh.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: What's it?
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: What's what's it? Jen Rivera and uh Kyle Rich? You
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: would know drill guy over there, Benner, the forty one
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: kids from Brooklyn, Jen Carter, Jen Carter and Kyle Rich?
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: Who are these drill kids from Brooklyn? That well, I
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: support them from New York. Super nice guys, but I'm
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: and lady.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: But no.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: We were talking about who was bigger, little Baby or
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: little Dirk and they were like emphatically like man dark
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: And I was like, well, Dirk doesn't have any hit records.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Oh, yes, I did say that you. I did see
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: this clip. I thought it was a fair point that
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: you made.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and I was like, top ten's he doesn't have
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: any Like he just doesn't have a top Now now
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: he does, by the way, do we.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Know that officially though?
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Yeah? It's number two on the Okay, so the first
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: time he's ever been like his his song and it's
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: a fucking smash.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: Incredible shout out to Dirk, But.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Man, the fucking fan yo, he's you would have all
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: these fucking weirdos who swear their OTF and they live
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: in their fucking mom's basement in Scottsdale, Arizona or some
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: shit like, it's fucking crazy. Yeah, Like what has been
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: the craziest like moment where because you guys openly just
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: talk about music. So I'm assuming at a certain point
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: in time you had have caught some strays from some
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: of these wild fan base.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Oh barbs, And it's not even close, but it's not.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: It wasn't based off a comment I made. We had
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: interviewed Nikki and.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: I had brought up Remember that I had brought up a.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Question that I still think is a fair question to
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: ask somebody. I had asked Nikki, at what point do
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: you and I'm paraphrasing. It was recorded, I don't remember,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: but it was something along the lines of why do
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: you feel like you have to respond to all this?
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Like why do you let that type of shit get
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: to you? And she she had a very fair response
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: of if you had people because she was she was
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: comparing the difference between her fan base in mind, which
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: is a very fair thing. It's like, if you had
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: people just continuing to make rumors up about you, you
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: would feel a way too. And I replied like I
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: probably wouldn't, which was foreshadowing because I kind of did later.
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: So, barbs, barbs, you may got one.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Yeah, she said, what would you feel if somebody started
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: a rumor that someone stuck a broomstick up your ass?
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Nicki Mina said this to me eye to eye on camera.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I could refresh my mentions. I don't even know what
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: year that was. I could refresh my mentions right now,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: and there may be a photo of me on a
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Harry Potter broom and a barb saying, how's that broom
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: up your ass? It has not stopped for seven years? Wow?
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: No, the barbs are resentless, and I fuck with Nikki
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I always have, but they don't. That's the crazy thing
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: about the barbs. Though they won't look for who's supporting.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: They'll find one off comment and go crazy.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: So I said something about and I didn't care about them.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: I said something, and mind you, maybe I was a
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: victim of the assumption that little Kim did not or
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: had a lot of help from biggie writing hardcore.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: I think that's fair to say, right.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: So I had said something to that effect when me
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: and Nick Cannon were discussing the female goats, because he
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: said Lauren and then he put Kim above Nicki, and
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: I was like, well, could you do that? If Kim
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: bigger owner shit? You know, like, I don't know.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: So I'll go on a lim And this isn't just
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: trying to make up for the broomstick shit to get
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: the bars off my ass. If Kim wrote all her shit,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: I would still put Nicki above Kim. I don't think
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: they're fair comparisons. In the amount of time Nicki has
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: been in the game, and I was consistent.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: She's she's the greatest of all time.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: I agree with you.
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: I think Nikki is the greatest female rapper bols and
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: so dude, and I think you could make a case
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: that Nikki could be in a list of the.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Greatest, like top fifteen. Yeah, yeah, I think I would
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: be fine with that case.
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: But no, but Jesus, I didn't know Little Kim had
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: these fucking goons out here on the internet brouh.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: You know, I will say, I don't know if you
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: read Prodigy's book. I did not That's another classic. Listen
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: to the audiobook because it's it's cooler to hear Pee
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: tell those stories.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: Is that the one where he talked about Norris shooting him?
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Yeah, okay for sure, and amongst a lot of other things.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: But he said that he watched Kim write that quiet
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Storm verse and that made me look at Kim a
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: little different, one of the best verses ever that she
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: wrote that that I watched her write that entire thing.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: So yes, of course Biggie did help. I know clue
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: at leaked references of Biggie rapping as Kim. That's happening
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: in hip hop. I don't want to take anything away
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: from Kim in that regard, but I still would say
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: Nikki just is the is the best she's been out.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: She put out way more like what do you We
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: don't know if they'll be a Kim without Nikki. You
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: could have that argument, but I think that's a weird
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: argument to have. Let's deal with what's out and.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: Is there wouldn't be a There wouldn't be a jay
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Z without you know.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: I don't like that what you're about saying. I think
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: convo either, But I'm.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Saying like it doesn't matter, Like that doesn't matter, Like
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: at the end of the day, it's like like I
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: don't factor that. I like to look at like lyrical ability, catalogs,
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: songs like like how good is the music? And I
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: love Kim's music, like I love you know, Kim's legend.
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: But yeah, I didn't know that her fans also like
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: her and Cardi b have like the same like they're
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: kind of like in the same gang kind of. So
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: I noticed a lot of these bios or like names
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: would be like Barti Gang, Queen Bee seven to seven
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: or some shit, and I was like, yo, I didn't know, bro.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Well, I got caught up in the Cardi gang shit
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: by proxy, like I was supporting Carti, but Maul was
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: suggesting she needs to put out music. You can't have
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: album of the Year and then just wait this long.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Like you were the best she can't rookie year of
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: any rapper ever and you haven't playing music out like
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: what the fuck singles very successful ones And then Cardi
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: went on Live shit It on Maul said Demris was
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: the greatest human being ever who's on our show as well,
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: And I somehow just got tied in with mal.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: Like this again. I just had this talk about Cardi.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I can't have beef with Nikki and Cartie.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: I just had to talk with somebody last night about Carti,
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: who's at Atlantic. We were just talking like it is
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: kind of like we've never seen somebody come out with
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: like a classic debut album that is like literally every
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: song's a hit, like I mean, I think they're all
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: certified PLANEM at this point.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: But only streaming. That's also an unfair conversation. Only streaming
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: could allow that true. And that's not to take away
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: because I was on the side that Cardi put out
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: a classic album. There's not a BA. Every song is
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: a hit. It's amazing, and you can't, like that would
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: be unheard of. You can't work thirteen records at radio,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: you can't. That would never exist in the world before
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: only streaming.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: Since like of course she had, she's she's had, you know,
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: shout out to her. She she got pregnant right before
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: I think the tour with Bruno WATSH was gonna happen.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: But she's put out some really great singles, like there's
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: a fucking banger bro like thep in her verse with
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: Gloilla a moment and your fans, Kelly I was one
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: of the best bass as long as she keeps having
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: these incredible moments, like the album I'm sure is being
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: worked on, but she's got a song on OFF. I
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: was with her on OFFSET super Bowl, uh and Offset
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: play me his album and she has a song on
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: Offset solo album that she's fucking snapping on here.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: This ship is crazy, Oh my god.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: And you know what the the one thing with Cardi
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: is like I'm not sure like how much stuff she's
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: writing not right and getting help with. But I'll be
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: damn man. I fucking love listening to Cardi b bro,
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: Like you know, like I said, pause.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: She has She's delivering one of the best deliveries. Oh
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: my Ever, how charismatic she is on records is incredible. Uh,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: since we're just two straight white males talking about women
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: hip hop. I don't know if you saw today Taylor Swift,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: Ice Spice.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: I saw that. We talked about it on my radio show.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: I said this, Are you ready? I'm not, are you
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: He is a wild question for that, So I mean
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: shout out to Ice Spice. I do think that I
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: think I might have saw you guys had a conversation
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: about Ice Spice on your show recently.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Right that tied into the Cardi response that.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, So I saw you guys talking about
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: Ice Spice, and I feel like she has star quality.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: Definitely does, and her she could rap good enough.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure she does. She does caption rap. That's
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: super important. Yeah, I just think that for sure, caption
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: rap is.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: I mean, probably Drake's the god of caption rap, you know,
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: but Drake like raps raps and does that for sure.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: For sure, Drake's one of the grace of all time.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: I'm always on Drake's ast. Spend my fucking money, bro.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: But no, Ice Spice.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: It's just I don't I don't know if I've heard.
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: I haven't heard the record yet where I'm like, oh,
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: she's gonna be here for a while. She's here right now.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: She's lit. Like I think her getting on that Pink
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Panthers record is because that's I think the most certain
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: point time is the number one song world.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: But to me, that showed that she may be around
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: because Pink Panther's being one of the up and coming
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: younger artists. I love that they got together this Taylor
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Swift thing is scares me. Why you're not skipping steps
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: per se, You're you're just going You're chasing the bigger look.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Whereas the Pink panther shit. We know that both two
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: emerging artists. It makes so much sense. The record is fire,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: the videos fire like it made perfect sense.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: You see Taylor Swift came, that's let's get her on something.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: And even like with Nikki that that made sense to
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: me too, like both New York, she's a fan like that.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: All that made sense for sure. This and this is
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: not a judge on Taylor Swift. It could be any
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: huge pop star that's nowhere near the age range of
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Ice Spice. I'd be like, this is weird. You may
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: be going too fast. You're going a little too fast.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: I mean, you're not gonna say no.
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: Of course, if you're Ice Spice, you're not gonna be
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: like Taylor Swift called and she wants to use you
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: as the cool.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: Hit part of her next song, you know. And and
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: that's where these conversations are weird too, because when we
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: talked about the Cardi record with Dirk and Kanye, I
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: was like, you're not gonna say no to a Dirk
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: and Kanye verse on this record.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: But what killed that record? Durk and Kanye, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: I agree. If that record would have been just Carty
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: went crazy, if it would have just been her for
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: two verses, it probably would have. And by the way,
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: also shout out to the Atlantic team. They took that
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: record number one at Rhythm and Urban.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: But that song was number one, yeah at radio, but.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: It wasn't the song that like, you know, it was
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: adding things know number one and not work at all?
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: What at radio? Yes, yes, yeah, I think out of
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: all the singles she's been dropping, that was the one
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: where you were like, she.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: Put that snippet up of her sitting on that roof
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: in the robe with her.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Verse she killed it. But you're right, Burk and Kanye.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I saw that. I said, oh, Cardi B's back. Then
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I heard the song and I was like, oh Cardi
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: went and then Cardi went crazy. And not to say
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Dirk and Kanye were bad on it, it just it
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: was weird. It just ruined us all.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: Do you listen to a lot of little Dirk No, okay, I.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: It's just not my type of shit. I wish I
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: had a better response than these types of things because
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I respect Dirk me too.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: I feel like we've seen him I kind of grow
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: up in front of our eyes. I like you, you know.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Back when we talk about like Sycamore, when Scamore was
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: doing his mixtapes, like I love Dirk at that time.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: It's it's just it wasn't something for me to begin with.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: So I'm not hating by any degrees. It's just not
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: my shit.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm very much in the same boat with you.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: I respect Dirk. I got there's records I really enjoy.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: There's records I really like hell tracks and with hell
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: Cats and track Hawks, it's fucking I play that ship
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: every time I DJ's.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: He's extremely talented, deserves all the success like he is.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: He is one of those I fuck with him in
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: that regard. It's just not something that I'm gonna stop.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Just my taste.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: What about Little Baby.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Baby's another one that I prefer them on features love
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Little Baby Man. No, They're great. I'm just a baby
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: can rap though of course I'm Dirk can too. I'm
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: not saying they can't. It's just not my go to.
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: No, Dirk can rap, but Baby can rap. Like I
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: feel like I've heard Baby like run circles around motherfuckers
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: on records. I'm just like a baby for me.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: And again I'm not and that talent record. I'm not
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: somebody like when he goes into the studio, I'm not
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: someone he would think of. I'm not saying personally for
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: my type of consumer. I like Baby and Dirk on
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: features like when they just get one verse to shine.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I think they do it better than any of new
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: rappers out, Like they make the record there and that's it.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: I mean, dude, it's a talent, but record the pous
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: schisty record is like you only play you play the
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: you're playing it for the Dirk verse because that's the
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: part people sing along too.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: And Dirk is able to rap and do like certain
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: tricks and stuff on songs. By tricks, I mean like
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: parts that everyone's gonna sing along to, like don't play
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: a little Boy in the club. We do list like
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: that that no one knows the talent that that in
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: line takes. Fuck the content of just the melody like
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: to stop everyone and what we're gonna sing along to.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: Dirk has that and he can rap and he can
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: make music. I'm just not running. I just maybe it's
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: my age. Maybe it's my region, I just not my ship.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: Did you have any time to see his sit down
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: with academic shait No, I haven't.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: I saw the one clip of the clips. What was
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: the clip about the gun and thing? I think that
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: was the only thing I saw.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: You and academic. Still, Uh, you guys have a pretty Uh.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: You guys have a conflict. I wouldn't say so, well,
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: I think he doesn't like you much. What but you
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: know what, but it's crazy that he doesn't like you
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: much and you guys have kind of had this back
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: and forth for years. Ever since has every day struggle
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: was on?
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: Right? I don't know if it's been a back and forth.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I've certainly said things, but not anything that. But I
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: also when you were discussing.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: The list, you said nice things.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: He and that's where the internet will well, they'll see
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: this clip and be like, w you frack. No, No,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: I'm an objective human being, like I know how there's
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: nuanced or objectiveness to every situation. Yeah, and we're also
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: on the internet, so like, yes, if we're talking about
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: a list, I believe academics should be on that. If
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: something is in person, I'm not gonna talk about the
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: lists right in terms of why these are drastically different things.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: I can give people their credit where it's due, for sure.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: I was gonna say in terms of like we kind
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: of started this convo talking about hip hop media for
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: a sec, but like, how do you kind of see?
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: And I'm happy those this is not going to come across.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: I know people are going to think this is a
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: sarcastic shot. I'm very happy that he was not harmed
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: in that home invasion because that that could have went
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: really bad. So I'm this is a real thing. He
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: said horrible lies and weird shit about me. I'm very
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: happy he was not harming that that home invasion that
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: could have got really invasion. From my understanding, recent two
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: people tried to break anywe with gun. Yeah, very recently,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: and they were arrested. He could I don't know if
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: he was making that up or not.
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: But wait, didn't you send him like a Christmas cause
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: or didn't you send something to his house where like
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: people were like, oh, that's that's bullshit. Yes, okay, that
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: was so funny though, like.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Listen, bit, I have no issue with anybody. I think
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: that's funny that.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: That's a that's like a thing.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: Good good, keep keep the narrative going. I think it's
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: fucking hilarious. And I do mean this holdheartedly. I know
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: his fans are gonna hate this because they want me
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: to say something. I know my fans are gonna be like,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: was this some pussy shit? Like the amount of personal
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: things said. I'm so glad of what's been going on people.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: He was not harmed in that home invasion because from
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: what I read, those guys was ready.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: So was he just not home?
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: I don't know the fut something about some girls set
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: him up.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: If i'm him, I got a save room at the house.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: I think a girl set him up. But it's not
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: my story to tell. I just saw some clips, and
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: you know, I stay on Reddit, so I do see
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: what other people type. I can't say that they are
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: the best source, but yeah, I saw that something happened
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: with the girls set them up, and two people were arrested,
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: and they had guns and they were somebody was unlocking
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: the door at his house and his girl's and listen,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: I don't want to I may disagree with a lot
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: of fucking things that that kid stands for. Says whatever,
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: I'm so happy he wasn't harmed because this ship, this
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: ship is getting insane with the home invasions, and I
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: don't want to see anybody just.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: People losing their life in general. That kid, uh. I
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: think it was in Texas, that kid who like posted
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: the picture in standing in the guy's blood and then
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: that same day he got killed. Did you see that?
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: No? And even though what he was saying, I think
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: is I think A's mom was in there like that
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: that ship is like that's that ship is fucked up, bro,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: So that's like I don't Yeah, that's just not funny.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: It's just not cool, Like I feel for bro, Yeah,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: are you like you? Someone say he may deserve it,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: but I don't think someone observes that.
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: Like, That's my thing with act is like I think
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: when he first came out of the scene, because I
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: was not hip to his YouTube shit at all prior,
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: I had no idea who he was prior to every
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: Day Struggle. So when the Everyday Struggle started to pop,
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: I kind of got a kick out of this like
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: internet dude who genuinely came off like a fan, who
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: was like happy to be there, and a lot of
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: these conversations he was having because Joe Budden would be there.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: And that's why I like that conversation with the Migos.
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: The bat was so funny because he just was so
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: green and like happy to be talking to the Migos.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: And I think there was a moment where he just
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: became like big act and it was like at you know,
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Paul's you know what I mean, like his persona of
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: like being like this fucking this guy, you know, and
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: I'm like sometimes like and I respect dudes, like he's
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: a hustler, you know, like I ain't mad at him, like,
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: but I also think at certain point in times of
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: acts like you kind of don't seem like the greatest dude,
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: you know, like I don't.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: I don't know him personally, Yeah, either do I to
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: be fairy Like as much as there's been an insane
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: narrative that anything in my life has been affected by him,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: which is like absolutely a great regiously false and hilarious,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: I don't. Yeah, it's more power to them. Wasn't like
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: keep going, bro, have a blast, Like there's nothing has
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: been affected in my life.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: How do you see like the evolution of like the
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: space that we're all in right, like you said, we
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: were talking aboutarlier about what is hip hop media nowadays?
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: Like there's the Twitch guys, there's the kisats, and then
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: who's now in Rumble? I think, but it just feels
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: like it's like forever an evolving.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Thing.
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: Like how do you feel about where it's going and
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: where it's.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: I mean, that's kind of when I asked you that
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: question at the beginning of the interview, where hip hop
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: media is? That's why that list was so interesting to
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: me outside of what everyone else thought. As far as
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: the messiness, where is hip hop media going to go?
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: Because we see with these live streaming sites, even with
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: Rumble and everything, hip hop is not going to get
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: it done so itself. Yeah, it's I fear hip hop
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: media will get pushed out of this entire world. I
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: think it'll hip hop gossip will continue to thrive. Don't
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: get me wrong, hip hop media will lose its strength
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: unless somebody and I'm not even mad at the people
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: that are interviewing these guys, but it's the audience that
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: we probably have to blame. Unfortunately. Yeah, myself included I
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: click all this relationship hip hop gossip is what's going
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: to keep this shit going. I don't know where hip
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: hop journalism is really gonna lie in the next ten years,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: especially with the younger kids. And I'm not being the
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: old guy saying you young kids don't have it. Their
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: worlds are just different and so much of that gaming
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: shit and everything that is going to be so profitable
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: with live streams and podcasts. I don't really see where
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: hip hop journalism really falls. And I also don't see
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: these hip hop artists and the younger generation caring to
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: do that they don't already. Drink Champs is incredible. I'm
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: so happy that Nori is able to talk to not
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: only new artists but people from his generation because these
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: are great conversations for sure. And those artists also went
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: on radio interviews. Press was a part of their fucking life.
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: It's not weird to them, it's it's part of their
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: their being, right. These young kids don't have to go
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: do that.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: They do so that's.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Not part of their DNA, which leaves the media people
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: having to find other ways to do it, whether that
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: be gaming, whether that be other interests, whether that be comedians,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: let's interview gang members exactly.
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: They have to I spent an hour on y Shit
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: last night. I watched a brick Baby and Crip mac
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: On No Jumper say fucking on on neighborhood, like for
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: two hours straight. It was the out Dude. It was
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: the most entertaining YouTube shit I've watched in a long time.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: And I'm saying, what's going to be more popular within
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: hip hop journalism or media If a rapper does an
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: interview or someone does a whole gang breakdown of the
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: gang that rapper came from. What's gonna get more clicks?
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: Oh the gang video? Because we've seen it with like
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: swamp stories and like these these which, by.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: The way, watch those are all great plass forms. They
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: do real research.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: Like, dude, I remember I had to interview Uh yeah,
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: where does that leave hip Where is hip hop drunk?
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: At some point, Elliott Wilson is going to want to
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: retire and go live with his wife. And he's like
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: the last guy that you're like, oh, that person did
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: a raparate on our interview.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Oh, And I know for a f there's there's younger
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: kids out here that want to do that. I just
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: don't know if the artists are going to want to.
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: Do that, And I don't know if Elliott gives a
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: fuck to do every hot up and coming artist.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: They're very selective, of course, not why would yeah, of course.
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: He'll do NBA Young Boy. It's NBA Young Boy, you know,
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: like you know, so yeah. So you just kind of
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: see it evolving into like the journalistic integrity continuing to
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: be diminished.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: But that's not because it's already.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: Kind of there.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: That's not a slight hip hop or the culture. I mean, look,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: let's let's look at the number one news outlets GMZ, CNN,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: Fox News. There's no journalism integrity there either, So why
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: would I think hip hop would follow suit? It's the
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: worst like America does not follow suit on journalism that
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: has changed. That's become a circus that's about clicks, that's
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: about SOLATIONI shit, of course hip hop is gonna end
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: up the world is that way. There's not one real
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: journalism platform. I mean, you could find, depending on your
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: political views, certain ones, but I don't know if there's
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: like objective journalism happening in the world period period.
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: So to have that everybody has their angle and everyone
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: has their Yes, you're right, so hip hop media and
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: then these artists don't playlist is what I need.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: If I need to go, I'll go do Yeah, I'll
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: go do the Rap Caviar podcast.
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: And on top of that, if I got beef for
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: the artist, and when I have a selationi's clip. I
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: have my own fucking Instagram. I also can set up
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: a microphone. Why do I need y'all?
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: I remember thinking that. I was like, man, I was
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: just talking with one of my friends about this the
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: other day. I was like, if you're an artist in
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: today's you know, landscape, a lot of these guys, an
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: interview can only hurt you, right, yes, Like they don't
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: like this will probably hurt me like nothing news from
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: me sitting down with whoever it is. It's going to
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: necessarily move the needle for me, But it can hurt me.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you know.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: So it's like, why even do it? Like if it's
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: just the really they only like the downside is very
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: much there and the upside is not very measurable.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Like and uh, I'm stealing this, I think from Steve
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: Styles's book. But you you'll know how popular an artist
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: is now only based by the tickets that they sell.
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: If you want to know how bigger artist is, go
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: to the show. So I relate that a lot to podcasting,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: not so much with the live show thing, but how
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: much views are you getting without a guest? Right, And
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: that's where the media shit is moving. You have to
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: be a personality so much that you will move the
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: needle weekly by yourself or with your co host whatever.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: And those are moments when you have an artist to
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: have a real interview, and I think journalism can happen
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: in that regard. I think, you know, Maul and I
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: haven't had like the crazy salacious shit, but the interviews
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: we have done, whether it be RUSS or DJ drama,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: like I think we had.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: Did you guys have belly on?
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: We did we cook lampshouts at belly Okay, I mean
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: we had a nice conversation, but I wouldn't say it
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: was an interview per se.
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: No, But you guys, I do feel like you're right.
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: Like when I see you guys doing an interview, I'm like,
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: oh shit, Like, I know, you guys really fuck with
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: the artist.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: Yeah, And even if we don't, it's kind of has
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: to be a reason outside of just to talk, like, oh,
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: they're doing the podcast run. And that's where I see
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: the value with hip hop media. Whether you're the media
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: person or the artist. What is actually gonna make sense
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: and move the needle for both of you? And I
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: don't know where that's gonna happen in hip hop journalism
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: unless all the hip hop media personalities can keep an
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: audience without an artist, that gives an artist and incentive
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: to go on there. If I'm an artist and you
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: can't do that, I'm bringing my audience to you. I'll
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: just set up a fucking microphone and go on ig love.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: That's what's like. I think for me, I've been like, Okay,
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: well one, I'm syndicated on the radio all over the country.
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: But you actually do And why I said you belong
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: on that list is you actually do the journalism interviews
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: try any time.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: As a I just had a young nudie interview yesterday
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: where we just got high the whole time and talked
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: about fucking Pinky, you know, the porn chick from back
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: in the day, you know.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: But that separated you in this space. I feel like
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: because you have real interviews and you're not, You're way
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: more consistent than Elliot because Elliott works on a different
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: Time, and like I like, I'll just like if I
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: like somebody. I'm like, yeah, I want to talk like
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: I know it's not gonna do numbers, but I want
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: to interview this person, you know, like.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: And that's valuable. I just do its gonna.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: I want to interview Big X the Plug so bad.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: If you listen to this guy, he's from Dallas. He's
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: so fucking hard bro DM and his guy all the time, Like, Bro,
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: when the fuck y'all come in to La, Big X
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: the Plug, he's on you and I masters. So he's
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: a stock guy, but he's hard bro. He's got a
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: song called Texas, but he's got a big a song
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: called Big Stepper. He's got bruh, he's fuck big extra
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: put but see to me, that's kind of how I
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: got involved in this whole shit. Was like I was
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: just a hip hop head and I started doing radio
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: because I couldn't wrap or make beats.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: Or did you try to rap?
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: I wrote raps. I never tried, like I never did
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: trust you if you didn't try, No, I tried, Okay,
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: I don't trust I didn't say I tried. I wrote
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: stuff like i'd be in school writing raps. I never
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: like performed or recorded a verse or anything.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: I just have a weird thing. I don't trust anyone
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: that didn't at least try no.
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: I wrote for sure, I would just like write hell
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: of scribbles and shit. But you know, for me, it's
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: almost like you said, it's like, not only am I
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: doing the YouTube and the and that, but I'm also
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: on the radio. So I'm like, if I play someone's
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: song once, it's twenty five spins. Yeah, and I'm on
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Monday through Friday. So it's like I'm like I kind
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: of have that advantage going for me. But I definitely, like,
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: you know, I moved into this new new compound, so
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: we're gonna start rolling out like just diff for non
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: interview types of content because like you said, how long
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: is that gonna last?
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: It's like it's it's really like.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: But again, at least you have the luxury of having
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: a staple in the podcast culture that we know we're
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: gonna get a real interview from someone, where there is
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: a lot of guest based pods that just it's bullshit
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: and they rely on a guest every single time. You
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: and Elliott at least we know, like, yeah, I guess
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: it'll be a form interview. I mean, I'm not sure
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: this one was, but I'm not a rapper. Oh my fault.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: But yeah, you know, like even when the GiB shit
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: was happening, like yeah, when he popped up with you,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: I'm not sure which gibs when I'm in the timeline here, yeah,
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: which I was like, at least I know this is
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: gonna be a real interview, gonna be a real conversation
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: because keV gets respect from every rapper. I know they'll
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: have a real conversation. It'll go somewhere. Kev's gonna ask
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: real questions that's so lost in the guest base pod
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: cast worlds. Yeah, and that's why I don't think it's
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: gonna Yeah, the front thing was like for like.
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: For the friend's one of my best friends, so you know,
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: for me, when he beefs with the world, it complicates
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: my relationship with the world. God bless them.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Love for you.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: But I'm the guy who gets the call, like, Yo,
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: what's fucking Stot just called me three days ago and
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: was like, what is this spready Gibbs I'm seeing on Twitter?
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: And I'm like, Rah, I only want to get into it, man,
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: I'm too close to the situation.
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: Got to be the name of the next album, right.
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: I love the fact that he leaned into it because
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: he's but he's the best of the internet. He's the best.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: I knew he would do that. He had to lean
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: into it, man, and like, you know, yeah, but somebody
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: said that he was spreading his stink star and he
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: replied with yeah, you got big titties. Like that's the
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: only way you can reply to. Great response. That's a
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: perfect Twitter response. She said something hilarious and Sodi, Yeah.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: And my other thing too, is I try not to
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: you know, I try not to dive into like the
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: low hanging fruit like beef shit, like or like, you.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: Know, I just some shit.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: I'm like, I'd rather I would just rather not intentionally
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: add to certain shit. Now I might end up adding
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: to certain shit, but it ain't you know, some of
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: these platforms and like I watch them, you know, like
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: I got love for lad and all those guys.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: I watch flat shit all the time.
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: But it's just like, I don't know, for me, it's
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: like at the moment it's working. But you're right, it's
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: like the guest based shit is like at what at
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: a certain point in time, like it's definitely got to
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: evolve into something else, and you guys have done such
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: a great job of doing that because people are there
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: for you guys. And if you guys haven't have a guest,
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: fucking sweet, it's gonna be a great interview because you
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: guys do great, great conversations.
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: If you add Vlad on, what will be the first
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: question you would ask them? Fuck? Man, I don't know.
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: I've asked Flad to come on the podcast because he'll
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: text me sometimes or call me sometimes. And he said
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: I didn't have enough yours for you said it wasn't popping,
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: So I look, I think I got the text here,
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: but I mean, but I just I guess, I mean,
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: and I respect Hey, Hey, also I wasn't. I didn't
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: take that ship personally. I wouldn't take that person I
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: was like, hey, bro, I get it all good, like
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: hopefully one day, you know, like he had hit me
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: for a contact on cannabis. Oh you know what it was?
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: He called me because he was like, I didn't want
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: to send this over text. He was like, but you know,
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: I'm looking at your numbers and like you know, and
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, you're fucking rich, so for you to
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: like take time away from your family, take time away
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: from your business. I get it, bro all good. I
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: didn't take it.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: If Flat as rich, he's never told us that. He
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: tells us that a lot. I had no idea.
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: I mean, have you seen the way he dresses?
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: No he's not on camera? Well no, sometimes when he is.
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: It's like fucking Louis every You know how they say
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: you can either wear the designer or let the designer
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: wear you.
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: I would say, the designers wearing vlat He walks into
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: sacks and just give me the manneican, give me the.
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: Whole shit, me the glasses, give me the fucking shorts,
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: give me the shoes, give me the socks. You know.
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: Shots of Flat by the way, raphenomenon was it the
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: first one of this? It was a rap phenomenon too,
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: that he was the Tupac one Tubac one?
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: Was that the one?
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: Green Lander?
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: I believe so him and him and Green Lancer.
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: Got green Lander's a goat.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Hu Absolutely yeah, as Green should do more podcasting.
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: I feel like me and him were just together in
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: Vegas and he has a lot of stories he probably
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: just can't tell.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: That's that's what it is. Green Green Lave had great
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: conversations where I'm like, this would be the greatest.
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: He's got tons of those, and I just, man, I
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: just want to know, like, you know, the Eminem shit,
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: what happened with the show. I mean, we know what
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: happened with the Shady ship with like the Jada kiss
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: g Unit shit or whatever. Yea, but this guy was
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: jay Z's DJ, Eminem's DJ, and he's NAS's DJ. There's
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: no way a goat he doesn't have some wild But
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: if you know Green, which you know him, there's just
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: I don't think there's a chance in hell he'll ever,
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: like really dive into a lot of that shit. He
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: told me though, a couple of weeks ago Befour twenty
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: because we were doing harding in Vegas together and he
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to do your podcast when I
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: have something to promote.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: I did say that similar.
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you told me the same. He has nothing to promote,
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: you know. He put out that big pun Jada song.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: But Green's kind of like, speaking of lad I've seen
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: lads like moved into the mafia part of YouTube, which
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: I get. I respect it. You have to grow the page,
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: but you know, picking the people that already have huge
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: numbers in the mafia space and telling the same stories
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: that we're out already. But I get it flat as
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: a different audience. Green is like that. But music industry wise,
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: when I look at the mob shit, I'm like, if
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: this guy's telling the story, obviously either ratted or he's
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: lying because he wouldn't be able to tell this. He
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: wouldn't be a Green is like that for me. With
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: hip hop, he can't get on a mic and talk
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: about it. He wouldn't be someone you could interview. Yeah,
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: because you even see people in hip hop that go
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: on these like the behind the scenes guys that tell
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: these crazy stories. I'm like, he might have to be
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: lying because the people that can't tell this story aren't
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: gonna tell it.
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: I feel like Vlad has one of those guys on
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: the show every two weeks.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: Oh it's entertaining where you're like, yo, there's just.
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: Just this random like bodyguard and he's just saying, like,
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: I know who killed Tupac. I mean, I was under
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: the fucking I was under the Mercedes. I had a
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: GoPro at the time before they came out. And then
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: vladdle like he interviewed he interviewed someone that pulled up
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: on a bicycle to the Tupac scene. I was like,
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: are you kidding?
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I believe it was the first responder. You just have
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: to be on a shwin Are you Are you serious?
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: I swear to God, Yeah, listen. I have a lot
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: of disagreements with Vlad.
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: That's great though.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Him and I, I guess, don't get along. I don't know.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: I have a lot of issues with people I've never
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: met or spoken to. But I yeah, when there's positive
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: things to watch Lad related, I watched Yeah, I.
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: Just watched him and Charlie Maine and I watched him
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: and uh who.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: Look at the growth of Charlot Man. I watched a
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: few of those clips too.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: Sharlo means a grown ass man. Now. I love it.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: It's great.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: It's like finding out Santa isn't real. Fucking e a
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: nervw to mature. The album is out. Yes, I thought
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: it'd be different. May twenty seventh, sixth I can't remember
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: anything we did. All the artwork because it's real art.
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: All the artwork was by a gentleman by the name
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: of Ezra Cohen. For the people that have watched our
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: podcast visually when it was at my house, now we're
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: in a new studio. But the artwork behind us that
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: you can kind of see because it's so big. Ezra did.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: He did all the singles the album. Like he's one
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: of the most talented painters I think out period, and
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: him even doing the music thing was cool because he's
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: very much in the art world, like he's gallery, Lower
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: East Side, studio, Hell's kitchen, like he's not in our world.
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: So the fact that he was so open to do
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: this stuff was amazing.
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: You have to pay him, of course, yeah, I mean,
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: I he's like, yo, man, everyone can speak to my
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: business on this album.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: There's a way to do good business, no matter. I
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: hate when people would say industry standards, No, there's a way.
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: That's a facade. There's a way to do good business.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: Even if Ezra Ssetti do it for free. I wouldn't
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: do that. Take care of him. Of course.
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: He worked and worked really well in this project. So
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: how many songs is thirteen thirteen records, tons of features,
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: dope production on the.
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: Album compilation, I mean had to be features.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: I mean it is a COMPLI. You're not rapping, you're
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: not singing.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: I might on the second one, who knows you know.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: It's funny when I would always hear you drop these
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: nuggets about you were working on an album. Yeah, I
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: was like, oh shit, I didn't know Rory rapped.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: I'm like, I rap on the show pretty often, but
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: people don't.
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: But I was like, I just was like, I just
- 1:54:40Speaker 2: assumed you were like gonna rap because it was like
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: this like secret project that you had, yeah, you know
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: working on. I'm like, oh shit, Rory's making mute. I
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: knew you were working with Emotional Oranges, yeah, because can
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: you manage them shots? I've known a odd for I played.
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: He was supposed to pull up but had a dutch
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: with the boyman. Yeah.
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: So I played his song Spider Webs on the radio
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: and Las veg Gus in twenty ten on my underground
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: hip hop show.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Very talented, super talented and helped me, I mean
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: ep the project with me as that's that's my partner,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: that's my guy, great guy, the best. So he was
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: an instrumental, no pun intended part of this entire process.
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: So it was it was great to have help me
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: with this and just having Emotional Orange is part of it.
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: Just our internal production crew like this, this really wasn't
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: like send out records, like send beats like this was
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: start from scratch. Some you know, thirty second ideas maybe started,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: but yeah, this was very much a creating an album Almongst.
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: Because you know a lot of times you'd be like, Yo,
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: this guy probably set beats out, got put together some
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: uncohesive record.
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: Oh for sure, Yo.
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: Just give me a sixteen and I figure the rest out. Yeah,
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: build around that, you know, like.
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: And even like the few times that artists weren't in there,
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: they'll they'll send just their verse over, maybe just keys
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: or maybe just a drum loop. I sent, right, and
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: then we go in in Frankenstein the entire thing like
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: it was, I'm still Shelley or see back to drama.
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: He was dram Shelley and now he's back to drama. Yeah,
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: is good.
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: He's good.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: Drama's great. Yeah. One of the most talented people I've ever.
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: He once fell asleep during an interview on camera with me.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: What year was it though, thousand.
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: Sixteen?
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: Okay, drama is sober now, and yes, drama is sober now.
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: Drama's doing amazing.
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: Again.
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: One of the most talented people have ever worked. Well,
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: he's one of the fastest workers I'm a slow worker
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: when it comes to music, like it's gonna take me
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: some time. Drama and I cooked up I Want You
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: but you'll never know it's on my album, and Phone
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: Can Die, which is on his in one weekend and
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: each session was like an hour and a half. Like
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: it was fucking crazy how fast we work together. And
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: that may be chemistry, but also Drama is just an
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: alien in that regard. And yeah, one of the most
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: talented people.
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: Have anything on the way that you could speak on
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: any podcast stuff. You guys are working on anything. Live show.
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: Guys do the live show thing. Obviously the merch is booming.
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so we actually have more more merch coming.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: Was a bare minimum Boys is a T shirt you
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: can go buy.
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's off the market now. It was just for
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: a day you could buy it. But we have our
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: actual merch, which you know, we pride ourselves on having
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: the best merch in the podcast space. Like it's it's.
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: Not tour t shirts Patreon that you drive once and
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: are going, but yes Patreon.
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: We're on our new studio. Now we have a I
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: mean by the time you're hearing this, we have more
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: sketches out. I think tomorrow Monday, Merchant two weeks. We
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: with this new studio space and office space, you know,
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: we're back to getting in the actual rhythm.
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: So would you do another podcast, because you know, there's
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: a lot of people, especially in the comedic world, that
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: they do like multiple podcasts, like you got like, uh,
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: you know Tom Sagori doesn't know.
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: W Yeah, don't b Chriischer, you know, like I haven't
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: pitched it to him. But Terrell Grice who has one
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: of my favorite YouTube platforms where he has R and
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: B singers come on and they do like a like
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: a word game. Well he'll say a word and they
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: have to sing a song that has that word in it,
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: like with a singer. One of my favorite platforms by far,
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: and just like one of the coolest guys I think
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: on YouTube. I would love to do some type of
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: R and B thing with him. That'd be dope, but
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: he may be too big for me.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: I don't know, well, because.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: There's like only I think the R and B Money
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: podcast and then what you guys and with Joe. I
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: feel like you and you guys and Joe's.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: And we weren't even like we touched upon R and
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: B guy we weren't an R and pocket at it. Yeah,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: so I think that space definitely has a void to
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: feel and this album could start that. But again, you know,
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: I needed a year to get this ship off the ground.
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: With a new one, we'll go run it up stream it.
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: Yes, I thought it'd be different, thought to be different
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: on all platforms by Vinyl. Will be out probably next
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: year because that should take it ever forever. Shit takes
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: fucking forever time. But designing the artwork for that now
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: they have the masters and we found a company that
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: I think can turn it over in less than a year.
- 1:58:58Speaker 2: So there it is. Man, Well, I appreciate you pulling up.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: I appreciate you having finally.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: Made it happen. You don't have something to promote, been
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: wanting to do this for quite some time, but you
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: know this made more sense.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: Appreciate you, man, Appreciate you.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: Boom Fire.
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Hey, we gotta wrap up an interview brought to you
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: by Hard Dean Las Vegas. Appreciate y'all watching. Hey, don't
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: forget when you go to Vegas, you gotta go to
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: Hard Dean. Man, it's the craziest dispensary you'll ever walk into.
- 1:59:21Speaker 2: It smells like fucking heaven in there. All right, get
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: in that uber when you hit Sin City, tell them
- 1:59:27Speaker 2: take me to hard Dean. They're gonna take you. You're
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: gonna get a wild selection of the just top, top
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: of the line cannabis, the best selection you'll go be
- 1:59:34Speaker 2: able to see in the US. Plus on top of that,
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: they got the crazy gear, they got the clothes, they
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: got the bikinis, they got a wonderful selection of bud
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: tenders that are very good at their job. Man, they'll
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: take carry you. Tell them that Bootleg keV sent you.
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: The bud tenders are Hardean. Don't know what that means.
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: They're gonna get you hooked up right, all right? Go
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: follow them online Hardan Underscore Los Vegas, or just go
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: shout out their website too. Man, Hardinloasvegas dot com and
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: you're in Vegas, pull up to Harden or you're playing
- 2:00:02Speaker 2: yourself for real,
