- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Jim Morris. Yukon faces Wake Forest this weekend
- 0:03Speaker 1: at Wrenstler Field. Twelve noon is the kickoff, and we're
- 0:06Speaker 1: talking about the Demon Deakins and their offense. First of all,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hank Bachmeyer is a very experienced quarterback. We talked about
- 0:16Speaker 1: him being able to throw the football. Obviously running the football.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Is he going to be a big threat there too.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I mean, he's not a guy that is looking to
- 0:24Speaker 2: run first, but he's certainly a guy that's big and
- 0:27Speaker 2: tough and sturdy enough to get the yards that they
- 0:29Speaker 2: need to move the sticks. So in this offense, he
- 0:33Speaker 2: does have the option to run it at times, and
- 0:35Speaker 2: he's not afraid to pull it down and stick his
- 0:38Speaker 2: head in there.
- 0:39Speaker 3: You know, he's this is a tough character. Now.
- 0:41Speaker 2: He's a tough dude and like I said, very smart
- 0:45Speaker 2: and the guy that's willing to do whatever it takes
- 0:46Speaker 2: to help his team win.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We're going to talk to Tom mont Gordine in a few minutes.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Tell me about that defensive line. I mean, I just
- 0:54Speaker 1: love those guys because if they're in the trenches, they're
- 0:57Speaker 1: getting beat up every week. They've had a pretty good
- 1:00Speaker 1: season so far with him and Jelannie Stafford and everything
- 1:05Speaker 1: else in Price he ates. We haven't even been able
- 1:06Speaker 1: to talk about Price because he's been out the entire season.
- 1:10Speaker 1: If he could play, how much better could that defensive
- 1:14Speaker 1: line be?
- 1:15Speaker 2: I mean, Price is a heck of a player. So
- 1:17Speaker 2: anytime you add a good player like Price to the mix,
- 1:19Speaker 2: it's going to help your team. Hopefully he's getting closer
- 1:22Speaker 2: to playing. But those guys, you know, we're able to
- 1:25Speaker 2: use rotation Dow and Jilanni and then Jack Barton's been
- 1:28Speaker 2: doing a really good job as a starter as well.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And you get Javon Banks in there, and you get
- 1:33Speaker 2: Jaden Simon, and you get Curvin's choate and you know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we've even gotten Matt Hoffman some snaps. You know, it's
- 1:41Speaker 2: a good rotation we have going there right now. And
- 1:43Speaker 2: if we can get Price added to the mix.
- 1:45Speaker 3: And we will only be better.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So I think the thing you like about Jeelani and Dow,
- 1:49Speaker 2: besides their ability on the football field, is just their
- 1:52Speaker 2: leadership skills and the way they practice and their mindset
- 1:55Speaker 2: and the way they hold the people accountable. They're truly
- 1:58Speaker 2: what you're looking for on your team in terms of
- 2:01Speaker 2: guys that are really good your best players being your
- 2:03Speaker 2: best leaders.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 1: One thing statistically that I was looking at with the
- 2:06Speaker 1: Demon Deacons, they're pretty effective on third down about thirty
- 2:11Speaker 1: nine percent something like that. Does that tell you that
- 2:13Speaker 1: they're very effective on first and second down and put
- 2:16Speaker 1: some put themselves in third and shorts more often.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Typically, that's an indicator that they're getting in third manageable.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It also, I think is an indicator of you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: Hank's ability to make good decisions and their receiver's ability
- 2:28Speaker 2: to get open. And I think they have a really
- 2:29Speaker 2: good offensive line. I think we haven't talked about their
- 2:31Speaker 2: offensive line, but they're big, big, big, athletic, powerful physical
- 2:36Speaker 2: guys up front.
- 2:37Speaker 3: And I mean it's a power four team, you know.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I mean they typically they've got you know, you'd go
- 2:43Speaker 2: power four teams. You're going to look at some big
- 2:46Speaker 2: bodies that are very athletic and very good football players.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And that's what they are.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, they're wide receivers. Taylor Morn's got twenty nine catches
- 2:56Speaker 1: of the Demon Deacons and Horatio Fields, I love that name.
- 2:59Speaker 1: He's got twenty catches, three for touchdowns. So obviously they
- 3:03Speaker 1: got a dangerous bunch there out on the outside of
- 3:05Speaker 1: the field.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I think. So they're very balanced on offense.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You know, they throw it well, they run it well,
- 3:11Speaker 2: they take care of the football, they keep you on
- 3:14Speaker 2: your toes, and you know, I think they've got now
- 3:17Speaker 2: with the addition of these two tight ends coming back,
- 3:20Speaker 2: you know, they got three or four, maybe five tight ends.
- 3:22Speaker 2: They're all really good players. So they're very complete team offensively.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Their defense coach led by Nick Anderson, one of their
- 3:31Speaker 1: DB's usually the linebackers of the heart and soul in there,
- 3:35Speaker 1: but Nick Anderson, he's got sixty nine tackles. This dude
- 3:39Speaker 1: is in a lot of plays. Obviously. That's something that
- 3:42Speaker 1: I know you appreciate being a defensive guy. What is it?
- 3:45Speaker 1: What is it about Nick Anderson in your mind as
- 3:48Speaker 1: you've looked at him that has made him such a
- 3:51Speaker 1: good player back there?
- 3:52Speaker 2: His ability to diagnose, take good angles to the ball
- 3:55Speaker 2: and play with you know, kind of a reckless abandon
- 3:58Speaker 2: although not a recklessness of play because he's very very smart,
- 4:02Speaker 2: but just key and diagnosed angles to the football, relentlessness
- 4:06Speaker 2: in getting to the football, being a good tackler in
- 4:09Speaker 2: the open field, understanding when he can unload on a
- 4:11Speaker 2: guy in the hole. They've got a good defense, and
- 4:14Speaker 2: they play well up front. They've got some big people,
- 4:17Speaker 2: they've got a solid linebacker crew. They've got a good secondary.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I keep hearing from their coach. I watched his press conference,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and you know, a lot of questions about their corners. Shoot,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I look at their corners. I think they're pretty gone good.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So it's going to be an amazing challenge for us.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I know that they'll come in favored. They're coming off
- 4:37Speaker 2: a loss. They should, you know, have a lot of
- 4:39Speaker 2: energy and motivation to play well, and we just got
- 4:42Speaker 2: to try to match that.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I got about another minute or so left with
- 4:46Speaker 1: Jim Moore. Dave Clausen is the head coach. Came from Fordham,
- 4:49Speaker 1: then he was at Bowling Green. He graduated from Williams
- 4:52Speaker 1: small college up in Massachusetts. But wow, he's had a
- 4:56Speaker 1: lot of success there. I mean, seventeen to twenty twenty one,
- 5:01Speaker 1: thirty eight wins, most in a five year period for
- 5:03Speaker 1: the Wake program, third most wins in the ACC since
- 5:07Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, they've been to a bunch of bowl games.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, this is this is one of those programs.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It's not North Carolina, it's not NC State. It's not Clemson,
- 5:17Speaker 1: it's not Florida State. But you got to really appreciate
- 5:21Speaker 1: what this guy's done at Wake Forest.
- 5:23Speaker 2: He's done an amazing job. You know, that's an academic school.
- 5:26Speaker 2: It's not easy to get guys in there. But he's
- 5:29Speaker 2: done a great job of recruiting, building a tremendous culture
- 5:32Speaker 2: and winning culture. He's a really good football coach, as
- 5:35Speaker 2: players reflect that in the way that they play and
- 5:37Speaker 2: the discipline that they play with. And I've not yet
- 5:41Speaker 2: met him, but I have a ton of respect from
- 5:42Speaker 2: him from Afar. All you have to do is turn
- 5:44Speaker 2: on the tape and you can see that. You know,
- 5:47Speaker 2: his teams play hard and they play discipline. Into me,
- 5:49Speaker 2: that's just a reflection of him.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And one of the things they've done pretty well over
- 5:53Speaker 1: the last few years is win close games. One score games.
- 5:56Speaker 1: They're twenty one and seventeen. That's always good to win
- 5:59Speaker 1: the close as well. Ukon went a close f the
- 6:01Speaker 1: Temple a few days ago, trying to add to that
- 6:04Speaker 1: stretch at home. Jim Mora, the head coach with us,
- 6:08Speaker 1: we appreciate it and good.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Luck on the weekend. All right, Mike, thank you? All right?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Jim Mora and the Huskies get after Wake Forest twelve
- 6:16Speaker 1: noon on Saturday at Wrenschler Field. We'll be back with
- 6:18Speaker 1: more down Mont. Gordon Connor stunts the punter when we
- 6:22Speaker 1: return on Larfield
