- 0:02Speaker 1: Minnesota basketball fans. Welcome back to the Living in Loserville podcast.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I am your host, Chris Carlson. This is a podcast
- 0:12Speaker 1: where we talk Timberwolves Gophers. Obviously, in recent years it's
- 0:17Speaker 1: been heavy Goat or heavy Timberwolves. I should say when
- 0:21Speaker 1: we first started, when we had Patino, funny enough, it
- 0:26Speaker 1: was kind of leading with the Gophers. We'll talk about
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Gophers at the end of the show. Ben Johnson
- 0:33Speaker 1: was let go and we'll see what they do. Sounds
- 0:37Speaker 1: like they got a coach from Colorado State, Minneapolis native.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We'll figure that out here in the coming days and
- 0:47Speaker 1: just you know, it'd be just like Minnesota sports luck
- 0:50Speaker 1: that they make the Sweet sixteen or something, and we
- 0:52Speaker 1: got to hope that he comes comes here. Now. Obviously,
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Timberwolves had a great eight game winning streak and
- 1:03Speaker 1: then we got Obi Tobbins, then we got we got
- 1:07Speaker 1: beat by a team that was missing at the start,
- 1:12Speaker 1: what four out of the five starters. Their pace and
- 1:17Speaker 1: the way they play didn't really change, especially on offense.
- 1:22Speaker 1: They just go, go go. It caught up to us.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But a lot of had that had to do with
- 1:28Speaker 1: how we started the game in the first half. Obviously,
- 1:31Speaker 1: right we kind of played catch up for too long
- 1:37Speaker 1: and and then you know, the clutch minutes again, the
- 1:40Speaker 1: clutch minutes down the stretch. We'll talk about it. This
- 1:45Speaker 1: isn't gonna be just negative, right, I mean, we lost
- 1:49Speaker 1: the game we should have won. If you look at
- 1:53Speaker 1: you know, Golden State lost as well, a game they
- 1:56Speaker 1: should have won. And actually I was paying attention to
- 2:00Speaker 1: Houston game two of them thinking they're about to lose
- 2:02Speaker 1: the Philly. Now they didn't end up losing the Philly,
- 2:04Speaker 1: but we're gonna talk all about it. A lot of positivities. Obviously,
- 2:11Speaker 1: they're they're doing great except for last night. Obviously, we'll
- 2:16Speaker 1: see how they bounce back. Hopefully they don't make it
- 2:19Speaker 1: two or three in a row with the with in
- 2:22Speaker 1: the l column. But yeah, we're gonna break it all
- 2:24Speaker 1: down and then kind of preview what we got coming up.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We faced New Orleans twice, which some of the players
- 2:36Speaker 1: they have in their lineup, it hasn't been a great
- 2:39Speaker 1: matchup for US. New Orleans been a little funky for US.
- 2:43Speaker 1: We play Indy, Let's see what indie team we actually play,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and then Phoenix and Detroit and all that good stuff.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So it'll I'll probably preview and predict the next give
- 2:56Speaker 1: or take five or six games. I did predict four
- 3:00Speaker 1: and one, and they went five and out right and
- 3:06Speaker 1: they just kept winning. So I was like, well, let's
- 3:09Speaker 1: go an extra game, let's see what happens, and sure enough,
- 3:13Speaker 1: they ended up losing, but a lot of positivity going
- 3:18Speaker 1: into the playoffs. You assume they're going to hold their
- 3:21Speaker 1: spot in the playoffs. Hopefully they rise. It's funny though,
- 3:25Speaker 1: because it really matters who the two seed is, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 1: but you really can't mess around with the play in
- 3:30Speaker 1: because you have to win that seven eight game to
- 3:33Speaker 1: get the seventh spot. Not easy. So yeah, we're gonna
- 3:38Speaker 1: talk all about it and then look ahead and then,
- 3:42Speaker 1: like I said, end with the Gopher stuff. By the way,
- 3:46Speaker 1: I got some feedback, and I've gotten a bunch of
- 3:51Speaker 1: feedback over the years about recapping games, and most of
- 3:56Speaker 1: it's been positive. And recently I got one asking if
- 4:02Speaker 1: I could go even more in depth, and I did
- 4:07Speaker 1: in my last show, and I thought I went way
- 4:11Speaker 1: too far in the archives from a game that happened
- 4:15Speaker 1: too long ago, So my apologies for that. I think
- 4:18Speaker 1: I went way too long with the recap last time
- 4:23Speaker 1: in the last show. Like I said, I appreciate the
- 4:25Speaker 1: positive feedback for those who like that, I just think
- 4:28Speaker 1: I dug too deep into it. So I will be
- 4:31Speaker 1: talking about the last chunk of games, but in a
- 4:35Speaker 1: much more you know, condensed fashion, let's put it that way.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Once again, appreciate the feedback, whether it's positive or negative.
- 4:46Speaker 1: But yeah, I just wanted to apologize in that last show.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I just realized, like you know what, I went way
- 4:53Speaker 1: too deep. I took some kind of I took a
- 4:57Speaker 1: little bit of advice that someone gave me, but I
- 5:00Speaker 1: went too far with it. I'll just admit it. And
- 5:04Speaker 1: speaking of admitting, media members now all of a sudden
- 5:11Speaker 1: have changed their tune about the Timberwolves, right, so we
- 5:16Speaker 1: will talk about that as well. And I want to
- 5:18Speaker 1: give a shout out to Dane Moore. He on his
- 5:24Speaker 1: like two podcasts ago, was just very honest. It was
- 5:30Speaker 1: really it was a breath of fresh air. Not from
- 5:36Speaker 1: him like he's not honest, but like just owning up
- 5:40Speaker 1: to certain things and and and a lot of it.
- 5:44Speaker 1: He used the term the NAS blinders, and I think
- 5:50Speaker 1: and that's not a negative thing, by the way, right,
- 5:57Speaker 1: NAS is obviously a major part of our community. You know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's way beyond the basketball court. And you know, the
- 6:04Speaker 1: thing is, this thing is a business before it's a sport, really,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and although you can love players, you also have to
- 6:15Speaker 1: And I'm not saying this or Dane, I'm just saying
- 6:17Speaker 1: in general, I just respect Dane Moore for that. I
- 6:20Speaker 1: already had his already respected him. He had my respect
- 6:23Speaker 1: a long time ago. I think he does a great job.
- 6:26Speaker 1: There's a reason, many of them, many reasons why he
- 6:30Speaker 1: is the number one Timberwolves podcast and one of the
- 6:34Speaker 1: most popular podcast period in the NBA or basketball. So
- 6:39Speaker 1: shouts out to him, but he really just he hit
- 6:43Speaker 1: it on the nose. Why others don't do that. I
- 6:47Speaker 1: really wish people would do that more. And you know,
- 6:52Speaker 1: whether it's Vikings or Timberwolves or whatever, we're talking sports
- 6:56Speaker 1: wise locally, if you look at the cat stuff and
- 7:02Speaker 1: how many deleted tweets happened last year in the playoffs,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you know, compared to what they were saying in the summer,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and I just have no respect for that at all,
- 7:14Speaker 1: at least at least stand on it, you know. But yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I wanted to say that, and just in general, like
- 7:22Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about that too. That you know, the
- 7:25Speaker 1: the there was a big, big deal made from the
- 7:30Speaker 1: local media about how in the world, you know, are
- 7:34Speaker 1: they going to fit these guys coming back back in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the lineup, and shouts outs to the players, the training
- 7:42Speaker 1: staffs and Finch like that. It's been it's been perfect. Really,
- 7:48Speaker 1: you couldn't really ask for a better, you know, way
- 7:52Speaker 1: to come back, I'll say that. So, yeah, we're gonna
- 7:55Speaker 1: talk it all the way through. If it's your first
- 7:58Speaker 1: time listening to the Living Loser Real Podcast, welcome. Like
- 8:02Speaker 1: I said, sometimes that that Loserville thing makes it sound
- 8:07Speaker 1: like this shows all negative, which it's not. It just, hey,
- 8:12Speaker 1: you know, the Timberwolves, we haven't. I was just since
- 8:15Speaker 1: I've been alive, I've seen I saw the North Stars
- 8:21Speaker 1: in the in the Stanley Cup finals once and then
- 8:24Speaker 1: I saw, obviously, thank god I was alive, the Twins
- 8:28Speaker 1: win a chip twice, two championships. But since then, no
- 8:33Speaker 1: team beyond the link shuts out to you. But when
- 8:35Speaker 1: people consider the major sports, right, even though hockey isn't
- 8:44Speaker 1: really major anymore. But anyway, I haven't even seen a
- 8:50Speaker 1: team in a finals conference finals A bunch of times
- 8:55Speaker 1: with the Vikes twice with the Timberwolves obviously the wild
- 8:58Speaker 1: YadA YadA YadA. We've seen it with the Twins too,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but they've never no one's ever made it there. So
- 9:05Speaker 1: I just wanted to talk about I just wanted to
- 9:09Speaker 1: bring that up randomly because I don't know it's it's
- 9:16Speaker 1: it's Loserville, dude. It's not a big deal. It doesn't
- 9:19Speaker 1: mean you know, but I get a lot of shit
- 9:21Speaker 1: for that title Loserville. Oh, it's just gonna be negative.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm actually a very positive person anyway. If it's your
- 9:30Speaker 1: first time listening to The Living You Loser Wille podcast, Welcome.

- 10:33Speaker 1: three months, and then the Ultimate Package that includes one
- 10:37Speaker 1: hundred and sixty channels one oh four ninety nine for
- 10:41Speaker 1: the first three months. Okay, so obviously, you know we're
- 10:50Speaker 1: gonna kind of rewind since the last time I did
- 10:55Speaker 1: a show, and like I said, I let it go
- 10:59Speaker 1: and extra game. But I did pick four and one,
- 11:04Speaker 1: Like I said, they ended up going five and zero.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I was gonna do a post utah, but they hadn't lost.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I was gonna do on Sunday night. I figured, let's
- 11:14Speaker 1: let's just do it now, and then we'll do it
- 11:16Speaker 1: Tuesday and and and you know, and then and I'll
- 11:20Speaker 1: wait for one more game. And obviously they had to
- 11:24Speaker 1: they had to lose that one game, right, But eight
- 11:26Speaker 1: in a row, man, no matter what the competition is,
- 11:30Speaker 1: because don't get me wrong, we have played a fairly
- 11:34Speaker 1: weak schedule. Obviously, even Denver had a pretty key especially
- 11:41Speaker 1: defensively player out with Gordon. Now, Orlando does have talent,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but they were missing a lot of talent as well.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Obviously the Spurs missing all sorts of talent, and same
- 12:00Speaker 1: with Utah, and I mean the list goes on, right,
- 12:03Speaker 1: But the Pacers game, they were missing all sorts of town.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Four out of the five starters, four out of the
- 12:14Speaker 1: six top scores, and by the end of the game,
- 12:18Speaker 1: someone got thrown out, someone got hurt, I believe. I
- 12:21Speaker 1: think it was their top six scorers out and he
- 12:23Speaker 1: had Toppin, who's not a good three point shooter, just
- 12:27Speaker 1: go nuts. And I've heard a lot of people talk about,
- 12:30Speaker 1: well he went Chef Curry on it, dude. You know,
- 12:32Speaker 1: the bank was open late, you know whatever. You know,
- 12:36Speaker 1: he was just going crazy. There's not much you can do. Well,
- 12:40Speaker 1: if that's like a full strength Pacers team and that
- 12:43Speaker 1: shit happens, okay, I'm willing to accept that. But we
- 12:49Speaker 1: didn't even need to be in that scenario, you know.
- 12:53Speaker 1: That was the frustrating part. So, but just kind of
- 12:56Speaker 1: rewinding some of the stuff, you know, the Miami, the
- 12:59Speaker 1: Miami seem and I was wondering, I remember saying that
- 13:03Speaker 1: I'm pretty confident as long as they beat Miami that
- 13:07Speaker 1: they'll be four and one. I really felt that was
- 13:09Speaker 1: a doable thing. Obviously it was, but they did get
- 13:14Speaker 1: a clutch time win. Ant really didn't have his full
- 13:20Speaker 1: offensive game, right, but he had a lot of rebounds
- 13:25Speaker 1: and he still made some some good plays. McDaniels had
- 13:30Speaker 1: a really good like put back off of deflection. Randall
- 13:37Speaker 1: had a nice uh. I actually missed a free throw
- 13:40Speaker 1: off of a rebound where he got fouled and Dante
- 13:44Speaker 1: and Randall late in that game. I wanted to bring
- 13:47Speaker 1: that at missing free throws because and aunt two is
- 13:50Speaker 1: one O five, one oh one, and Ant got falled
- 13:53Speaker 1: he missed a free throw, you know, and Robinson hit
- 13:57Speaker 1: a three and it got real ugly at the and
- 14:00Speaker 1: now the ref ended up missing a call in that game,
- 14:04Speaker 1: So they probably shouldn't have even had a shot at it,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, to be honest with you, they really shouldn't
- 14:11Speaker 1: have when you look back at it. Conley had his
- 14:14Speaker 1: game going, that's for sure, but yeah, at that game
- 14:19Speaker 1: kind of looked like he was sick or tired or
- 14:23Speaker 1: I don't know. He didn't look right. He didn't look right,
- 14:26Speaker 1: but they got the dub you know, one O six,
- 14:29Speaker 1: one o four. It was on the road, so, you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: like I said, kind of ugly or you know, somewhat
- 14:36Speaker 1: ugly at least, but they got the job though. You know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: now the Spurs obviously don't have the same team. They
- 14:44Speaker 1: got some players on there, but it's still Wenby's not
- 14:47Speaker 1: on the court. You gotta beat them, right, and they did.
- 14:52Speaker 1: They did. Randall had a really good game, very good game.
- 14:56Speaker 1: In fact, sometime in the third quarter Timberwolves up eighty
- 14:59Speaker 1: five seventy nine, it was like six minutes left, and
- 15:03Speaker 1: had twenty three points on eight to twelve shooting. Randall
- 15:07Speaker 1: had fourteen point seven assists and I think forrest Or
- 15:12Speaker 1: seven rebounds for assist or it was a nine assists.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I can't remember if he yeah, actually, yeah, it was
- 15:19Speaker 1: it was that because I think he ended up with nine.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Randall had a stretch there in nine to nine and
- 15:26Speaker 1: ten for assists back to back like that, and even
- 15:32Speaker 1: Jalen Clark hit a three. They had Timberls had sixteen
- 15:37Speaker 1: threes at the end of the third quarter. It did
- 15:41Speaker 1: tighten up a little bit in the game itself, but
- 15:44Speaker 1: they just they just went nuts. Hit six straight I
- 15:49Speaker 1: think it was six straight three point game making. Was
- 15:53Speaker 1: it seventeen in a row or I'm all over the place,
- 15:57Speaker 1: six straight games of at least was it sixteen threes,
- 16:02Speaker 1: sixteen makes or eighteen makes? I can't remember, but it
- 16:05Speaker 1: was some kind of crazy stuff. The second chance points
- 16:08Speaker 1: were really good in that game. Jaden had a season
- 16:13Speaker 1: high and assist they just went off. I mean they
- 16:18Speaker 1: hit one forty one, They had thirty eight assists, twenty
- 16:24Speaker 1: one threes, I believe, so you know, they more then
- 16:28Speaker 1: got the job done, you know in that game. Just
- 16:33Speaker 1: kind of still working our way through talking about the
- 16:37Speaker 1: Denver game and no Gordon, you know, so, like I said,
- 16:42Speaker 1: that was key. We got off to a great start.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It was like eleven to two in fourteen to ten,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and you know, and I think it was thirty four
- 16:50Speaker 1: to twenty six, and but Jokic was going off. But
- 16:57Speaker 1: that was about it. You know, that was about it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: You know, kind of a spread offense for most you know,
- 17:05Speaker 1: for half of that game it was fifty seven to
- 17:09Speaker 1: forty eight. Add half, Jayden hit back to back threes.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Rudy was playing very good overall, and he was actually
- 17:18Speaker 1: doing really good in that Jokic matchup. That's something I
- 17:22Speaker 1: thought multiple media members did a good job of documenting
- 17:27Speaker 1: that because that wasn't always the case. You know, sometimes
- 17:32Speaker 1: I thought sometimes with Jokics year just there's nothing you
- 17:35Speaker 1: can do, and we all know it's that game. Which
- 17:39Speaker 1: game was that? I think it was Game five where
- 17:42Speaker 1: he just went off and Rudy was the victim and
- 17:44Speaker 1: a lot of those, but I think it was Julius
- 17:49Speaker 1: Randall that said, hey man, we'd rather give him forty
- 17:51Speaker 1: than thirty twenty and twenty, and that is actually a
- 17:55Speaker 1: very fair statement, I thought. But yeah, I mean they
- 17:59Speaker 1: they just started putting threes together. Murray did have a
- 18:04Speaker 1: really good third quarter, but they were just falling. The
- 18:09Speaker 1: shots kept falling and Randall there for a while. I
- 18:13Speaker 1: don't know if he finished with twenty two points or not,
- 18:16Speaker 1: but he was eight to eleven from the field. Like
- 18:19Speaker 1: I said, the shots were just falling and we just
- 18:23Speaker 1: blew him out. You know. Is that was it five straight? Now?
- 18:30Speaker 1: I think it was five straight against them, And like
- 18:32Speaker 1: I said, Gordon is a key piece. Maybe his stats
- 18:39Speaker 1: don't always show it, but he's a damn good player.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Especially he fit in that trade was awesome that that
- 18:46Speaker 1: trade fit really well. Now in Utah once again, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: definitely was had players out obviously, and Dante was in
- 18:59Speaker 1: the star lineup because no calmly and they started out
- 19:04Speaker 1: really well fourteen to five. Timberwolves did three for three,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I believe three for three. Ant right away had a
- 19:11Speaker 1: nasty dunk down the lane and it was twenty eight
- 19:14Speaker 1: to twelve at the three thirty eight mark, and Ant
- 19:17Speaker 1: had twenty one points. What was that is? I can't
- 19:21Speaker 1: remember the stat it's like six or eight times he's
- 19:24Speaker 1: had at least twenty I don't know, but it was
- 19:27Speaker 1: nuts thirty four to twenty, looking good. And then Utah
- 19:33Speaker 1: goes on a seventeen to two run and it's thirty
- 19:37Speaker 1: six to thirty two, and you're like, dude, what like,
- 19:42Speaker 1: what do we like? Don't put your guard down yet,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you know? Now they did. They did bounce back right
- 19:50Speaker 1: away twelve to four run and they spread it to
- 19:52Speaker 1: forty eight to thirty six with five twenty nine on
- 19:55Speaker 1: the on the clock. In Jaden was playing really good.
- 20:06Speaker 1: He had eleven points and eight rebounds. I think he
- 20:09Speaker 1: had a double double in the first half, had a
- 20:11Speaker 1: crazy dunk down the lane and the amount of like
- 20:15Speaker 1: hustles hustle plays on defense from Jalen Clark and then
- 20:21Speaker 1: he get followed and get free those it's it's it's amazing.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I love the fucking guy, man, I really do. Like
- 20:31Speaker 1: he just you can't even in the in ball inbound
- 20:36Speaker 1: the ball around him. He's like a cheetah sitting in
- 20:40Speaker 1: the cut just waiting for you to inbomb the thing.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And he's got these fakes where last night he was
- 20:48Speaker 1: at the in the corner looking like he's waiting for
- 20:51Speaker 1: a corner three. Seeing that they got to inbound the ball,
- 20:54Speaker 1: he snatches it. There was another play where it looked
- 20:59Speaker 1: like he faked. He joked like he was going back
- 21:03Speaker 1: to run on defense, like okay, I'm gonna get back.
- 21:06Speaker 1: They're gonna inbound it, and he came back and snatched
- 21:09Speaker 1: it like he's dude, this dude. Or if they do
- 21:12Speaker 1: get the if they're lucky enough to get to the
- 21:16Speaker 1: in ball pass in, he's still not even letting him
- 21:19Speaker 1: get to half Courtney's stripping the thing. I mean, he
- 21:23Speaker 1: comes off this guy, he's always just looking for it. Dude.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Like I said, I think like a cheetah in the
- 21:29Speaker 1: cut just waiting, dude, I think that's really him. So
- 21:34Speaker 1: at half though, right, it was sixty jue to fifty
- 21:37Speaker 1: one and the free throws were fifteen to two. That's attempts.
- 21:44Speaker 1: The problem is it was ten to fifteen. And I've
- 21:48Speaker 1: noticed that lately. I talked about it in that other
- 21:52Speaker 1: game just a second ago. The free throws. Man, we've
- 21:56Speaker 1: been getting there, you know, but we haven't been finishing it.
- 22:01Speaker 1: We haven't been finishing yet. Early third quarter of that
- 22:04Speaker 1: Utah game, McDaniels had a nice block, then he had
- 22:08Speaker 1: a steel layup. Ant was like thirty points on ten
- 22:11Speaker 1: and twenty shooting at the time, and you know, it
- 22:20Speaker 1: just it got out of hand and it was really
- 22:23Speaker 1: I mean Ant that Utah game. Ant had a great game, like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: you know, forty one points and he didn't even play
- 22:34Speaker 1: if I remember correctly. Yeah, he didn't play in the
- 22:37Speaker 1: fourth quarter. Only through three quarters he had thirty Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 1: he had thirty one minutes, forty one points. He was
- 22:47Speaker 1: definitely doing his thing. Man, he was playing great. He
- 22:54Speaker 1: he didn't shoot all that well from three, but he
- 22:57Speaker 1: hit five threes, you know what I mean. So five
- 22:59Speaker 1: of fourteen US old schoolers that sounds bad, right, But
- 23:06Speaker 1: it wasn't all that bad. You know, it really wasn't
- 23:09Speaker 1: all that bad because when you hit five of them,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I mean that's that's a lot. Obviously, that's a whole lot.
- 23:16Speaker 1: And so yeah, that game just kind of got out
- 23:18Speaker 1: of hand and they never really could, you know, catch up,
- 23:25Speaker 1: and it basically like, yeah they did. They just walked
- 23:29Speaker 1: away with it. Jaden went off twenty and twelve on
- 23:32Speaker 1: eight to thirteen. This was kind of later in the game,
- 23:39Speaker 1: Clark had another steal. The dude, like I said, it's
- 23:42Speaker 1: just a aemenace on those damn inbound passes. Man. So
- 23:48Speaker 1: you know, a lot of the players didn't have to
- 23:51Speaker 1: play in that fourth quarter of starters, I should say,
- 23:54Speaker 1: And that was nice, you know, that was nice. And
- 23:57Speaker 1: we knew we were gonna have a back to back,
- 23:58Speaker 1: and will say this, we haven't had a back to
- 24:02Speaker 1: back in a little bit, right, And some of the
- 24:06Speaker 1: players did look a little drained, A definitely looked drained.
- 24:10Speaker 1: But and I just saw that Steph Curry's exhausted right now.
- 24:16Speaker 1: He's not playing tonight. I'm pretty sure Milwaukee has their
- 24:21Speaker 1: two studs day to day. I don't know if they're
- 24:25Speaker 1: actually gonna play or not. But onto the game last night, right,
- 24:32Speaker 1: and I got some notes here. You can hear it.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure you can hear those notes. Right. So
- 24:37Speaker 1: no Hall of Burton, no Miles Turner, no passcal no,
- 24:41Speaker 1: no nobody. No, I'm just kidding. There's they got a
- 24:44Speaker 1: good team, man. They went deep in the playoffs. They're
- 24:49Speaker 1: improving on defense this year. That was kind of their
- 24:52Speaker 1: their downfall obviously last year, well that had injuries. By
- 24:59Speaker 1: the time the the Knicks, we're just falling. The Knicks
- 25:02Speaker 1: were definitely falling apart. And funny enough, it seemed like Dante,
- 25:06Speaker 1: who had played in that series and and Randal hadn't
- 25:13Speaker 1: because he was hurt. It looked like he knew how
- 25:16Speaker 1: to play them as far as pace, you know, and
- 25:18Speaker 1: just like getting the ball by like if they're gonna
- 25:21Speaker 1: do it, you gotta do it. And it was frustrating
- 25:23Speaker 1: to get up by five and then boom they hit
- 25:26Speaker 1: a three, you know. But yeah, just kind of looking
- 25:30Speaker 1: at the game, it was a clunky start. It was
- 25:33Speaker 1: like seven to seven and ten to ten, ten to ten,
- 25:37Speaker 1: like under seven minutes, you know. Indy started out like
- 25:41Speaker 1: oh of five and then went like five to seven,
- 25:47Speaker 1: and you know, it was thirty to thirty. Randall had
- 25:52Speaker 1: nine points. This Bradley dude was going off. He was
- 25:57Speaker 1: four or four right away. And once again you think
- 26:00Speaker 1: first quarter nine free throws, that's good. The problem is
- 26:06Speaker 1: it was five of nine, you know what I mean.
- 26:09Speaker 1: So that's something that is uh, it's starting to be
- 26:14Speaker 1: a problem. It is starting to be a problem. Now.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Ant hit like forty of them last night, but overall,
- 26:23Speaker 1: I've noticed that's starting to creep in as an overall team.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Nas had like twelve points pretty early on five of
- 26:34Speaker 1: six shooting. He looked really good for a while in
- 26:40Speaker 1: that game. And that's something I'll talk about too. Could
- 26:44Speaker 1: they have tweaked the line up a little bit down
- 26:47Speaker 1: the stretch of that game rather than way way down
- 26:50Speaker 1: the stretch of that game maybe you know what I mean.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Maybe Indy was up forty to thirty nine and then
- 27:00Speaker 1: it was thirty one. Yeah, thirty one and under it's
- 27:05Speaker 1: a second quarter, under five minutes, they're down by ten.
- 27:10Speaker 1: The Timbrules at the time they started out like three
- 27:12Speaker 1: of seven from three, they were four a sixteen. The
- 27:16Speaker 1: team just looked sluggish, no energy, and at the time
- 27:22Speaker 1: was like, oh four, from three to a nine. Overall
- 27:26Speaker 1: it's fifty eight to forty three, and at the half
- 27:31Speaker 1: it's sixty to forty six. And you're like, dude, tell me,
- 27:34Speaker 1: we're not going to do this, you know, can you
- 27:37Speaker 1: just can you say it please that we're not going
- 27:40Speaker 1: to allow this to happen. But we did. We did
- 27:43Speaker 1: allow it to happen. McDaniel's got his third fil pretty
- 27:47Speaker 1: early in the third quarter, and you could tell things
- 27:55Speaker 1: were getting shippy, right Rudy Well, Conley got hit from
- 28:02Speaker 1: like an elbow that wasn't called, and then Rudy was
- 28:07Speaker 1: sticking up for Conley and he put he put his
- 28:10Speaker 1: whole shoulder into the ballhandler. So and then the ballhandler
- 28:17Speaker 1: need what is it? Need Meyer? Who the hell is that? Not?
- 28:20Speaker 1: What am I talking about? Nemhart? Is it hard? I
- 28:26Speaker 1: think that's who it was. He threw the ball at him.
- 28:31Speaker 1: It was kind of funny, but so, and that was
- 28:35Speaker 1: his second tech at the game. So he got thrown out.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Rudy got thrown out because it was a second degree foul,
- 28:45Speaker 1: and so, you know, it is what it is, and
- 28:47Speaker 1: there's other excuses and reasons however you want to classify
- 28:51Speaker 1: that that we'll get into about this game. But there's
- 28:57Speaker 1: simply no excuse, you know what I mean, It just
- 29:00Speaker 1: really isn't After like a spin cycle layup, the Timberwolves
- 29:07Speaker 1: took the lead seventy six till seventy five under four minutes,
- 29:12Speaker 1: and was up to twelve points at that time. He
- 29:15Speaker 1: was he didn't really I think he had like nine
- 29:17Speaker 1: points or something in the first time. He didn't look
- 29:19Speaker 1: at all that good, and then he started going nuts.
- 29:23Speaker 1: He had like fifteen I think in the third quarter,
- 29:28Speaker 1: and Dante hit this long three pointer. Did pick up
- 29:32Speaker 1: his fourth ball not long after, so he had to sit.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But it's kind of a back and forth with a
- 29:38Speaker 1: buck thirty four in the in the in the third quarter,
- 29:41Speaker 1: it was eighty three eighty two Wolves, but it ended
- 29:44Speaker 1: up being eighty nine eighty seven. And at the start
- 29:48Speaker 1: of the fourth quarter Timberwolves got two blocks in a
- 29:51Speaker 1: row from Nas and Jaden Nas hit it to three.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Then Conley hit a three, and next thing you know
- 29:58Speaker 1: is ninety seven to eighty nine. They had a ten
- 30:01Speaker 1: all run and they're like, all right, dude, we're coming alive.
- 30:04Speaker 1: And during this streak, even that Orlando game, and you know,
- 30:08Speaker 1: we're down eleven, I think, and we came back, and
- 30:12Speaker 1: you know, it's obviously that okay, okay, se game was
- 30:16Speaker 1: crazy on the comeback, but it had a vibe of Okay,
- 30:21Speaker 1: here we go, we're gonna we got this. Like it
- 30:25Speaker 1: never felt like, oh we got it, got it, but
- 30:28Speaker 1: it felt really good when we pushed that lead. And
- 30:31Speaker 1: since that Rudy Ejecson it was thirty nine to twenty
- 30:35Speaker 1: three at the time. Jaden missed the three, but he
- 30:38Speaker 1: got his own rebound and had that little leaner fade
- 30:42Speaker 1: mid range that he hit, and then Indy started once
- 30:48Speaker 1: again heating up. What did they end up with for
- 30:51Speaker 1: three seventeen to thirty seven? Shot almost forty six percent,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and they shot almost fifty from the field, So that
- 31:01Speaker 1: that's a that's not a good combination. You know, that's
- 31:05Speaker 1: not a good combination. And so I think they hit
- 31:10Speaker 1: like three threes pretty quick, and it's seven point fifty
- 31:14Speaker 1: of the fourth quarter. It's one on one ninety seven
- 31:17Speaker 1: and comes down miss you know, misses the three, kind
- 31:23Speaker 1: of takes a quick three, has a bad turnover, settles
- 31:27Speaker 1: for another three point miss, and it's one on one,
- 31:32Speaker 1: one on one, five thirty seven, and he had a
- 31:35Speaker 1: little six zero run and ant this is the only
- 31:40Speaker 1: free throw he missed. But still it was one o two,
- 31:43Speaker 1: one on one. The problem that I didn't like about
- 31:47Speaker 1: the scenario right after it was he was complaining. So
- 31:54Speaker 1: it's our ball, meaning the Timberwolves, and he's complaining and
- 32:02Speaker 1: he's not focused on the live play. And he gets
- 32:08Speaker 1: the ball and he kind of just ditches it to Randal.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Him and Randall are right by each other in the corner.
- 32:14Speaker 1: It's like, dude, it's a live play right now. Dude.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Like and and I've been harping on Aunt for this
- 32:21Speaker 1: and and Ship for years. We harped on Cat and
- 32:25Speaker 1: we saw improvement. Did he still complain too much? Of course,
- 32:30Speaker 1: but and he'd let it bug him and all that.
- 32:33Speaker 1: But like when when you're about to get an inbound, dude,
- 32:37Speaker 1: you could tell when he was he was complaining, complaining,
- 32:40Speaker 1: and he's like, oh shit, that's right, I'm playing a game.
- 32:43Speaker 1: And then and then he got the ball and he
- 32:46Speaker 1: just hands it to Randall. It's just like, dude, you
- 32:48Speaker 1: could tell that you're not mentally into display. And so
- 32:51Speaker 1: it was a little frustrating. As great as his numbers were,
- 32:59Speaker 1: especially from the free throw line. Obviously, nine to twenty
- 33:03Speaker 1: four is not great. One of eleven from three is
- 33:06Speaker 1: just horrendous, But nineteen to twenty from the line, it's phenomenal.
- 33:14Speaker 1: You gotta give him credit there. But he had such
- 33:17Speaker 1: a great game, you know, thirty eight points, five assists,
- 33:22Speaker 1: but he was one eleven and he and it felt
- 33:26Speaker 1: like he was just taking these bad shots, dude, where
- 33:30Speaker 1: you're just like, all right, dude, we're in Like it's
- 33:32Speaker 1: a little bit different. There's no time for heat checks.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I just once again, it was a clutch game and
- 33:39Speaker 1: he had a lot to do with what was going on. Anyway,
- 33:43Speaker 1: Dante hits a three, it's one O five one one
- 33:46Speaker 1: four thirty eight left, aunt misses the defensive assignment, just
- 33:51Speaker 1: standing there once again, is he resting? I don't know.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Sometimes I feel like he's just not into it. Sometimes
- 34:00Speaker 1: you could tell he's resting either way. He just completely
- 34:08Speaker 1: missed his defense assignment, like didn't. And that's the thing.
- 34:11Speaker 1: He's a physical guy or he's not. He's actually not
- 34:15Speaker 1: that physical sometimes like one on one defense, we know
- 34:18Speaker 1: he's physical, right, he'll get into you, but like when
- 34:22Speaker 1: it comes to boxing, somebody out dude, like he'll jump hard,
- 34:25Speaker 1: like we saw a great Rainbound last night where he jumped,
- 34:29Speaker 1: you know, and that's great, but you got to box
- 34:31Speaker 1: people out too. But Dante did have a nice pass
- 34:36Speaker 1: where he dribbled in and a dished off to Randall.
- 34:40Speaker 1: He got an n one. Now Randall did miss one
- 34:44Speaker 1: of those free throws. So under four minutes, it's a
- 34:52Speaker 1: very tight game. And you know, there's no Nas, there's
- 34:59Speaker 1: no Nah, so no Alexander Walker, no Reed, and they
- 35:03Speaker 1: have Conley and Dante in there, and I would have
- 35:06Speaker 1: to say that I probably would have I'm not saying
- 35:09Speaker 1: both Nas and Nah had to be in there. Stante
- 35:13Speaker 1: was going off. Conley's been playing good, but I do
- 35:15Speaker 1: like if you look at the matchup, and this is
- 35:17Speaker 1: something that Dane Moore and others folks, but I've heard
- 35:21Speaker 1: him on that podcast a lot saying that there's just
- 35:24Speaker 1: times where Conley's guarding a really big guy, and that
- 35:29Speaker 1: was he was running into that problem last night, and
- 35:32Speaker 1: so I do have to say, I don't know if
- 35:34Speaker 1: I would have played Conley as long, and it felt
- 35:40Speaker 1: like you probably should have put in Nas, and then
- 35:43Speaker 1: they ultimately did put in Naw in NOAs, But I
- 35:46Speaker 1: don't know. I thought I thought that they went a
- 35:51Speaker 1: little too long with the lineup they had, but then
- 35:56Speaker 1: Nas and I think, now we're in there when they
- 35:58Speaker 1: did kind of quickly get right back in the game
- 36:02Speaker 1: after having that little lead, So I just think it probably,
- 36:07Speaker 1: you know, went a little little far with that lineup.
- 36:10Speaker 1: But Aunt had a nice drive dump with the foul.
- 36:15Speaker 1: But you know, right away, Indy boom three, you know,
- 36:18Speaker 1: and it's just like, dude, we can't It's crazy, like
- 36:22Speaker 1: we just can't get rid of these dudes. It was
- 36:25Speaker 1: one ten, one o five with three to nineteen left,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and you're thinking, all right, Boom hit a three. You know,
- 36:32Speaker 1: Aunt goes down, misses the three. It's one ten, one
- 36:37Speaker 1: o nine. Randall got a fall on the legal screen.
- 36:41Speaker 1: It was a bad like live. I was like, oh, yeah,
- 36:44Speaker 1: he moved, but I didn't notice he got pushed, So
- 36:48Speaker 1: that was they missed that one. I will say that
- 36:51Speaker 1: he definitely got pushed. And then and Indy takes the
- 36:56Speaker 1: lead one to eleven, one ten, and I'm like, here
- 36:59Speaker 1: we go again. Dante missed the three, Randal did get fouled,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and he hit both of his free though, so we
- 37:06Speaker 1: you know, we overtook the lead again, and I think
- 37:11Speaker 1: it was McDaniels that hit a fade game. No, they
- 37:15Speaker 1: hit a fade jumper one thirteen, one twelve and a
- 37:19Speaker 1: layup and it's one fifteen, one twelve fifty seven seconds
- 37:23Speaker 1: left and it's just like, God, damn, we're gonna lose
- 37:26Speaker 1: this game now, Like I just had negative feelings about it.
- 37:30Speaker 1: But Jayden hits a three, right, and that was his
- 37:35Speaker 1: only three, right. He was oh five before that or no,
- 37:39Speaker 1: maybe he missed the others. Maybe it's only like oh four,
- 37:42Speaker 1: but that was his only three. He was one of
- 37:44Speaker 1: six on the game, but it was a big three
- 37:48Speaker 1: and Ant has a steel he got fouled. He hit
- 37:51Speaker 1: both of his spree doughs. And there was also a
- 37:58Speaker 1: play where and they they admitted it. Actually, I think
- 38:05Speaker 1: that's a little later. Yeah, hang out. Okay, So I'm
- 38:14Speaker 1: looking at my notes here. I gotta look back at
- 38:16Speaker 1: my notes here. Oh yeah, So, so we actually had
- 38:24Speaker 1: the lead and it was a bad call because the
- 38:30Speaker 1: ball went off on Indy like it clear and we
- 38:34Speaker 1: should have challenged it. I think we could still challenge
- 38:37Speaker 1: it at that point. This is one of those under
- 38:41Speaker 1: two minutes. You wish that it could just happen, because
- 38:45Speaker 1: it clearly went off, and then it could have been
- 38:48Speaker 1: a you know, it could have been maybe more of
- 38:50Speaker 1: a frind dough game at that point. But either way,
- 38:55Speaker 1: you know, Ant missed a very tough three. It looked
- 38:58Speaker 1: like he just did his own thing out there. Meanwhile,
- 39:02Speaker 1: and don't get me wrong, I get it, Jaden's not
- 39:04Speaker 1: a great three point shooter, but he just hit one
- 39:08Speaker 1: right and he was wide open, and it's a much
- 39:13Speaker 1: better three. Yeah, we know Ant is a better shooter
- 39:17Speaker 1: than Jaden. That's obvious, right, He's a damn good three
- 39:20Speaker 1: point shooter. But it's just the hero ball at the
- 39:24Speaker 1: end of these games is ridiculous. Now I'm not saying
- 39:29Speaker 1: all of them he's gotten bad looks or whatever, but
- 39:32Speaker 1: this was a bad look as it was a super
- 39:34Speaker 1: tough shot, and it's kind of like you gotta make
- 39:37Speaker 1: the right play, whether that's a shot or a pass.
- 39:41Speaker 1: And like I said, Jaden was wide open at the
- 39:45Speaker 1: three point line, and I just and you could see
- 39:49Speaker 1: mister no emotion. Jaden was kind of mad on the bench.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Randall was kind of talking to him, like if you
- 39:56Speaker 1: look at the bench, it was like Jaden was on
- 39:59Speaker 1: the other side all the way to the other side
- 40:01Speaker 1: of Ant. Like I'm not saying they almost spot or
- 40:04Speaker 1: anything like that, but clearly he wasn't happy about that,
- 40:08Speaker 1: and I wasn't either, Like he just he just made
- 40:12Speaker 1: poor decisions, jacking threes, turnovers, not passing the ball. And
- 40:19Speaker 1: I understand, man, he's still young, but he's in his
- 40:22Speaker 1: fifth year now, dude, and at some of it at
- 40:24Speaker 1: some point, like I don't know, it's frustrating. Let's just
- 40:30Speaker 1: put it that way. Bad turnovers by both teams right away.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Ours was bad. There's I think was worse because it
- 40:39Speaker 1: was like a backcourt violation, and I'm just like, okay,
- 40:41Speaker 1: you know, no big deal. Ant gets falled, he hits
- 40:44Speaker 1: two free throws, and at that point points out turnovers
- 40:48Speaker 1: twenty nine to eleven. Randall got fouled. He hits both
- 40:54Speaker 1: of his free throws. It's one, twenty one, one seventeen.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Jayden did get a fall on a screen, and that's
- 41:04Speaker 1: right where we're up by four. We have the ball.
- 41:09Speaker 1: We could have maybe went up five, six, maybe seven
- 41:11Speaker 1: points right there. I said, maybe you go one or
- 41:15Speaker 1: two from the line, maybe you hit it two maybe
- 41:17Speaker 1: three either way. That screen that was a little rough.
- 41:22Speaker 1: That was a little rough because of course they came
- 41:25Speaker 1: down boom, you know, and hit a three and it's
- 41:28Speaker 1: one twenty one one with two fifty four left, and
- 41:34Speaker 1: like I said, we had two chances there to go
- 41:37Speaker 1: up maybe six points, five, six seven points and you know,
- 41:43Speaker 1: and hit a long jumper that went in, but Topping
- 41:46Speaker 1: came right back three. It's one twenty three, one twenty
- 41:49Speaker 1: three with like two nineteen left, and at that point
- 41:52Speaker 1: I'm I'm having those negative negative feelings again, you know.
- 41:59Speaker 1: But then con only banks this shot in it like
- 42:04Speaker 1: bobbled around the ring the rim, and I was like, well,
- 42:09Speaker 1: hang on, dude, you know maybe it's one twenty six,
- 42:12Speaker 1: one twenty three. Hold on, and we got to jump ball.
- 42:15Speaker 1: We get the ball, and you know, so what is
- 42:21Speaker 1: it one twenty six, one twenty three, one twenty two left.
- 42:24Speaker 1: We get the ball. Aunt was balld he hits two
- 42:29Speaker 1: pre those it's one twenty eight, one twenty five, and
- 42:33Speaker 1: you know, it just boom, it's just right back. Like
- 42:36Speaker 1: it's like we couldn't breathe. It's like every time, all right, dude,
- 42:40Speaker 1: here we go. Now what are we gonna oh they
- 42:42Speaker 1: hit a three. You know, it just it was so frustrating,
- 42:47Speaker 1: but yeah, we're up one twenty eight, one twenty three.
- 42:50Speaker 1: With a bucks six left, we're up by five or
- 42:54Speaker 1: sorry three, no five? Boom that Brant dude hits a three.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Ant comes down Jackson three misses Obi top it hits
- 43:06Speaker 1: the three. Now we're down by one and okay, no
- 43:11Speaker 1: big deal. We call time out. Twenty six seconds left.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Ant gets fouled, right, HiT's his hits both free throws.
- 43:19Speaker 1: He was clutched. You know, he was clutched on the
- 43:21Speaker 1: free throw line. There's no way you can say that, right,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I mean, he definitely there's no way you couldn't say
- 43:26Speaker 1: that he was clutched on the free throw line. But
- 43:28Speaker 1: that's about it. And here it is eighteen seconds left,
- 43:33Speaker 1: one thirty nine dude, and boom it seemed like because
- 43:39Speaker 1: obi Obi like hit he hit a bank shot and
- 43:43Speaker 1: he hit that leaner. And when hit that leaner on
- 43:45Speaker 1: the left side of the court, one like, are you
- 43:49Speaker 1: are you serious? Dude? Yeah, it's just and then you
- 43:55Speaker 1: know we got a shot off and it is there's
- 43:58Speaker 1: just short. Randall got a good look. We had like
- 44:00Speaker 1: eleven foot turnaround and we ended up losing the game.
- 44:04Speaker 1: It just it was rough, man, another clutch game down
- 44:08Speaker 1: the drain, especially to that team. You know when Obie
- 44:13Speaker 1: top and man he went Chef Curry. It was rough.
- 44:17Speaker 1: It was rough. Now. Prior to that, we were eight
- 44:24Speaker 1: in a row, like I said, and overall there was
- 44:27Speaker 1: that stat out there with Julius Randall. We were thirteen
- 44:30Speaker 1: and zero with him in the lineup of late. You know, Conley,
- 44:38Speaker 1: it's really coming around. I think that's safe to say
- 44:43Speaker 1: he's really coming around. The three pointer had been fallen
- 44:48Speaker 1: for quite some time now, but now overall, it just
- 44:53Speaker 1: feels like he's really got his shit together, you know,
- 44:57Speaker 1: I mean a fair amount now. Like I said, I
- 44:59Speaker 1: probably would have taken him out of the game last
- 45:02Speaker 1: night for a little bit, at least down the stretch.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I thought he had too big of a guy on him,
- 45:09Speaker 1: or that he was on and he just wasn't as effective.
- 45:12Speaker 1: But Player of the Week, Western Conference Player of the Week.
- 45:16Speaker 1: It's a second career honor for Edwards. He averaged thirty
- 45:21Speaker 1: two point seven a game, forty seven from the field,
- 45:23Speaker 1: thirty eight from three, and four point three assist. So
- 45:28Speaker 1: I mean, for the most part. Ant's been great obviously,
- 45:34Speaker 1: but it's still that little stuff. Man. It's that little
- 45:40Speaker 1: stuff that just whether it's defense, whether it's you know,
- 45:45Speaker 1: not passing the ball, like making the right play, it
- 45:51Speaker 1: just adds up, you know. And like I said, you know,
- 45:54Speaker 1: Obi topping career high and all that, I get it.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Seven to ten for three is ridiculous. You'd had thirty
- 46:00Speaker 1: four points ten boards most three's ever made. But like
- 46:04Speaker 1: I said, it didn't even need to go that way.
- 46:07Speaker 1: They were four or five by the way, I think
- 46:10Speaker 1: four or five from three in the in the overtime.
- 46:16Speaker 1: That's freaking crazy. So yeah, I mean, and they actually
- 46:23Speaker 1: put up this uh stat in Finch we trust since
- 46:29Speaker 1: since Finch was hired, we're number one an opponent assist
- 46:33Speaker 1: a turnover, steals were third opponent opponent turnovers Oh stocks,
- 46:39Speaker 1: my bad, it was kind of cut off. So that's
- 46:42Speaker 1: steals and blocks their stive that stocks, third opponent turnover, third,
- 46:52Speaker 1: points off turnovers, third blocks, fourth, and free throw attempts
- 46:57Speaker 1: at ninth. So that's since February twenty second, twenty twenty one. Man,
- 47:02Speaker 1: it's already been that long since he's been here. That's
- 47:05Speaker 1: pretty crazy. And the loss hurt, obviously, but the fact
- 47:12Speaker 1: that the Warriors were playing the Nuggets without Jokich and
- 47:18Speaker 1: Murray and they ended up losing that game, it was
- 47:22Speaker 1: just like, I know, some people will say, well, you
- 47:25Speaker 1: know that happens. Yeah, I hear you. But then again,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you know, we got to make up for some lost
- 47:31Speaker 1: time there, so there's just no excuse for it. You
- 47:34Speaker 1: got to play better so you don't have to get
- 47:36Speaker 1: back in the game. But that streak was one of
- 47:40Speaker 1: the longest streaks. It's the longest streak since two thousand
- 47:44Speaker 1: and three, two thousand and four season where we made
- 47:46Speaker 1: the conference final, and that was nine and Dougie made
- 47:53Speaker 1: a good point, it's eleven in a row if you
- 47:55Speaker 1: include the two and zero start in that playoffs that
- 47:58Speaker 1: last year. But the franchise history long streak as eleven
- 48:02Speaker 1: during the two thousand and two thousand and one and
- 48:04Speaker 1: I remember who I was working with at that time
- 48:07Speaker 1: during that stretch, and we're like, I don't think they're
- 48:10Speaker 1: ever gonna losing it. Just messing around, of course, but
- 48:12Speaker 1: during that eight game stretch. This is kudos to Charlie Walton,
- 48:17Speaker 1: who's a great follow on Twitter. By the way, Net
- 48:20Speaker 1: rating number one fourteen point eight, defensive rating went away six,
- 48:26Speaker 1: that's third in that stretch, and then second offensive rating
- 48:30Speaker 1: one twenty three point four. I mean, yes, you gotta remember, obviously,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and you gotta like calm down a little bit because
- 48:39Speaker 1: of the competition, right, Definitely gotta put that into play.
- 48:44Speaker 1: But we were getting the job done and we you know,
- 48:49Speaker 1: we we've lost to enough bad teams this year, and
- 48:54Speaker 1: obviously Indiana is not a bad team, but when they're
- 48:57Speaker 1: missing as many players, you know, as they were, style
- 49:04Speaker 1: is one thing. And actually I listened to Dane Moore
- 49:07Speaker 1: Show today with Britt and he was talking about, you know,
- 49:11Speaker 1: teams are going to look to play this way, and
- 49:15Speaker 1: obviously you have to be able to play that way
- 49:17Speaker 1: under control. And that's that's the Pacers style. Some other
- 49:21Speaker 1: teams do it, but they really do it, no matter
- 49:23Speaker 1: if it's the bencher or the starters. But they were
- 49:28Speaker 1: running us rampant, and we did look sluggish, there's no
- 49:32Speaker 1: doubt about that. Now. The good part as far as
- 49:36Speaker 1: the sluggish thing is, we do have a favorable schedule
- 49:43Speaker 1: coming up. Like we played last night, we get a
- 49:47Speaker 1: night off. This is a home stretch of five straight
- 49:50Speaker 1: games by the way right, so you're not traveling. And
- 49:55Speaker 1: that was our first back to back in a little bit.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Like I said, we only have one more back to
- 49:59Speaker 1: back finish the season. But we play Monday, then we
- 50:02Speaker 1: play Friday, then we have two days after Saturday, and
- 50:06Speaker 1: Sunday they play at Indy and then they have Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 50:11Speaker 1: and Thursday off and then they play home against Phoenix.
- 50:16Speaker 1: So that's pretty freaking good if you really look at it.
- 50:21Speaker 1: After that New Orleans game this Friday, they only have
- 50:25Speaker 1: one game until they play that following Friday, and they
- 50:30Speaker 1: have two games or two days off before that game.
- 50:33Speaker 1: So you know, if they're gassed right now, Okay, cool,
- 50:39Speaker 1: you can be gassed, I'll give you that. But you know,
- 50:44Speaker 1: let's not make too much of an excuse about that,
- 50:47Speaker 1: you know, because if we need a little rest, we're
- 50:50Speaker 1: gonna get some, is my whole point. But yeah, Conley
- 50:56Speaker 1: is coming around, no doubt. As I mentioned, since his return,
- 51:02Speaker 1: since all three of them have come back, they've been
- 51:04Speaker 1: playing great. And once again, the players, the staff, Finch,
- 51:10Speaker 1: like the trainer staff and all the coaches whatever, you know,
- 51:15Speaker 1: like the transition into these three coming back has just
- 51:19Speaker 1: been you couldn't really ask for more. And as I
- 51:23Speaker 1: said before, and I'm not a big told you so,
- 51:28Speaker 1: because I just thought people were kind of like Dane
- 51:33Speaker 1: Moore said, like the NAS blinders, And when I say
- 51:39Speaker 1: NAS blinders or he said NAS blinders, I think that's
- 51:43Speaker 1: a real thing, and it's something that I've been I
- 51:45Speaker 1: haven't said NAS blers, but that's basically what I've been
- 51:48Speaker 1: trying to tell people. And that's why I talked about
- 51:52Speaker 1: it on the last show, that eight and three stretch.
- 51:56Speaker 1: It doesn't look as good when you actually add up
- 52:02Speaker 1: you know who was on the court in those games
- 52:06Speaker 1: last year. And the reason why I was so like
- 52:09Speaker 1: frustrated a little bit and kind of scratching my head.
- 52:12Speaker 1: It's like, dude, if you don't like cat, that's cool.
- 52:14Speaker 1: At some point, we'll probably trade him anyway. And we
- 52:17Speaker 1: ended up trading him, but to act like how are
- 52:20Speaker 1: we going to bring him back? And it was it
- 52:22Speaker 1: was such a story, you know, like how are we
- 52:26Speaker 1: going to bring him back? We shouldn't even play him
- 52:27Speaker 1: in the first round. Some people were saying we shouldn't
- 52:30Speaker 1: even play them because you know, like we're gonna trade him,
- 52:35Speaker 1: so let's not get him hurt, you know that type
- 52:37Speaker 1: of shit. Meanwhile, we go to the conference final, you know,
- 52:40Speaker 1: in a year where we had held down the number
- 52:42Speaker 1: one spot in the Wests for a lot of the year.
- 52:49Speaker 1: So eight and three wasn't crazy last year, and then
- 52:53Speaker 1: this year once again, I think the nas blinders, but
- 52:57Speaker 1: also the style of play. It looks so pretty. We're
- 53:01Speaker 1: five and eight when Randall's out, But we heard many
- 53:05Speaker 1: immediate members saying how pretty this thing's looking.
- 53:10Speaker 2: And and how we got to bring Randall off the bench,
- 53:15Speaker 2: not even thinking about, well, when's the last time Randal over,
- 53:19Speaker 2: let's say a couple months stretch came off the bench.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Do we know he's good at that? Maybe he is,
- 53:26Speaker 1: but we don't know. It's an unknown And that was
- 53:29Speaker 1: my whole point. It's too late in the season for unknowns,
- 53:34Speaker 1: whereas we know, right, we know Nasri can come off
- 53:38Speaker 1: the bench. And honestly, I'll admit too that you know,
- 53:42Speaker 1: a bunch of players are playing bad early this season,
- 53:46Speaker 1: and one of them was calmly and it lasted a
- 53:48Speaker 1: long time, and once they put in Dante, I think
- 53:54Speaker 1: it was only for like five games. He got hurt, right,
- 53:57Speaker 1: I gotta admit when Dante came back once he was
- 54:00Speaker 1: off his a little minutes thing. I did think they'd
- 54:03Speaker 1: put him back in the starting lineup. So I was
- 54:05Speaker 1: wrong there. I was wrong there, and I even because
- 54:09Speaker 1: it was such a talker, I had a little segment
- 54:13Speaker 1: of if Dante goes in the starting lineup, which I
- 54:19Speaker 1: was obviously wrong. That didn't happen. Like you know, some
- 54:28Speaker 1: people are saying we should play Rob over Conley. Now,
- 54:30Speaker 1: I didn't think that was going to be the case,
- 54:33Speaker 1: and I didn't. I thought that Conley had been playing
- 54:36Speaker 1: a little better, but I mentioned it. I literally, you know,
- 54:42Speaker 1: it was part of the show. So I had Conley
- 54:46Speaker 1: coming off the bench too, and I thought they'd try
- 54:48Speaker 1: to sync up Rudy's minutes a little bit, take Rudy
- 54:51Speaker 1: out maybe a little bit earlier or whatever. But you know,
- 54:54Speaker 1: having him with Rudy and the way we're moving the
- 54:58Speaker 1: ball now now it does feel like we're starting to
- 55:02Speaker 1: see more of all the positive stuff that Conley can bring.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Because remember when he did get moved out of the lineup,
- 55:11Speaker 1: the talk was, you know, shit, like the way we're
- 55:13Speaker 1: playing in the style, like he's like running from corner
- 55:17Speaker 1: to corner. He's not even being a point guard out there,
- 55:20Speaker 1: you know, So it wasn't it wasn't highlighting or emphasizing
- 55:24Speaker 1: what he can do really well. And I think we've
- 55:26Speaker 1: gotten back to that a little bit more. But just overall,
- 55:29Speaker 1: the ball movement's been phenomenal. But yeah, it was the
- 55:33Speaker 1: Niles blinder again. Like to me, this one even had
- 55:38Speaker 1: me scratching my head more because we did win five
- 55:41Speaker 1: in a row, you know, with Randal in the lineup,
- 55:45Speaker 1: and that was our biggest streak before this last one.
- 55:49Speaker 1: And as we know, it hit thirteen and zero. So
- 55:52Speaker 1: it just kind of I don't know, Like I said, though,
- 55:55Speaker 1: I want to give my respect out to Dane or
- 56:00Speaker 1: because he laid it on the line and he said,
- 56:02Speaker 1: hey man, I've been wrong about this. You know. I
- 56:04Speaker 1: got to readjust how I think. And for a guy
- 56:09Speaker 1: who has such a successful podcast, you don't see that much.
- 56:14Speaker 1: I mean, if you look at Mackie and they have
- 56:17Speaker 1: a successful podcast, no doubt. And he's great at his
- 56:22Speaker 1: at the many things he does in his career, at
- 56:26Speaker 1: his profession. But the keyword there is profession, and the
- 56:32Speaker 1: keyword there is actually being a professional when it comes
- 56:37Speaker 1: to your opinions and not be a fanboy and not
- 56:42Speaker 1: just fall into the fan thing too much. And that's
- 56:46Speaker 1: what that's the biggest problem I have with some of
- 56:48Speaker 1: these local media members and whether they're full time or
- 56:52Speaker 1: part time or they just have Yeah, I think nowadays
- 56:55Speaker 1: if someone has like a uh you know, at a
- 57:00Speaker 1: big platform on Twitter, that's really a part time media
- 57:04Speaker 1: member and actually almost full time because they're shaping the message.
- 57:10Speaker 1: So we've seen that in politics, especially on Twitter as
- 57:14Speaker 1: we know. So it's just I think I think it
- 57:20Speaker 1: looks so pretty with that small lineup, right, or even
- 57:25Speaker 1: just Nas at the four, and then when Rudy was out,
- 57:28Speaker 1: we had Nas and McDaniel playing the five and four,
- 57:31Speaker 1: and then we and then when Rudy was out, we
- 57:33Speaker 1: also had you know something that now looks a lot better,
- 57:37Speaker 1: you know, having Randall and Nas. Now we can play
- 57:41Speaker 1: that lineup and I'm really happy about that because earlier
- 57:44Speaker 1: in the season, as we know, it looked bad defensively.
- 57:48Speaker 1: But anyway, so yeah, I just I just we we
- 57:54Speaker 1: had a we were under five hundred when they were gone.
- 57:57Speaker 1: We clearly needed them, and to point it just at Randall,
- 58:02Speaker 1: you know, that's why I was I was more excited
- 58:05Speaker 1: see I was getting excited about the depth. I was
- 58:09Speaker 1: getting excited about what we were seeing with McDaniels. I
- 58:13Speaker 1: wasn't surprised at what at what Niles Reed was doing.
- 58:18Speaker 1: You know, I was surprised what McDaniels was doing. I
- 58:22Speaker 1: was a little surprised at times and happy that we
- 58:26Speaker 1: basically built that depth up. So I was looking at
- 58:29Speaker 1: well Dante was figuring it out. He looked good in
- 58:32Speaker 1: the starting lineup whatever. He looked good in general. He's
- 58:34Speaker 1: a great spark plug off the bench too, and he
- 58:38Speaker 1: sparked us in some of these wins, for sure. And
- 58:44Speaker 1: and then Randall had looked good. It looked like he
- 58:47Speaker 1: figured it out almost before he got hurt. Not just
- 58:51Speaker 1: because we won five in a row, but the ball
- 58:53Speaker 1: was moving, and now the ball is really moving. And
- 58:57Speaker 1: you know, when he first came out, he had a
- 58:59Speaker 1: bunch of assists. When he you know, he came back,
- 59:01Speaker 1: I should say he didn't come out, and and then
- 59:08Speaker 1: you know, they all of a sudden, he wasn't drawing
- 59:10Speaker 1: as much attention, and then it was like one on
- 59:13Speaker 1: one with that dude. I'm getting I'm gonna bully him,
- 59:16Speaker 1: and he he's like a fullback sometimes like that. We're
- 59:20Speaker 1: really getting that physicality out of him now, and it's
- 59:25Speaker 1: exactly the whole punish. If you're gonna play a big lineup,
- 59:29Speaker 1: you got to punish people. And that's something that we've
- 59:32Speaker 1: been doing great. Like I said, Beware of the Cheetah,
- 59:36Speaker 1: the Inbound Pirate aka Inbound Pirate, Clark, this this guy man,
- 59:43Speaker 1: this dude, and just overall, for the most part, not
- 59:47Speaker 1: last night, but for the most part, the defense has
- 59:51Speaker 1: been at a pretty damn high level. I will say that,
- 59:54Speaker 1: I definitely will say that. And then another thing that
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: was starting to come into play that we fixed and
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: now is coming back into play, is starting early. Getting
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: out the good starts right. And you could see that
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: was an issue because we kept having a comeback win
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: or lose. We kept having to come back right. So now,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: for that stretch of games maybe it was like five
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: games in a row something like that, five out of
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: six whatever, they were starting great and it looked like
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: we had kind of knit that in the butt. But
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: recently we've had some slippage. We've had a little slippage
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: in that, and so we got to keep an eye
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: on that. And I say we as a Timberwolf fan.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: But McDaniels, like McDaniels is not only he's staying confident
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: now that everybody's back, and you know, when we talk
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: about real quick, when we talk about what we're gonna
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: do in the offseason. By the way, we may or
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: may have gotten legit info about the trade for Duran
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: that they wouldn't let McDaniels go, much like in the
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: Rooty trade they got an extra pick, maybe two, I
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: think just a pick though, first round pick, because we
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: kept McDaniels. So they were saying NAS may have gotten
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: into that discussion. But I'm not trying to start any
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: kind of let's make a trade, you know. But I
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: talked about that last week that you have to look
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: at it overall that we may I mean, if you're
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: gonna get Durant, more than likely you're gonna have to
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: get up McDaniel's. McDaniel's. I doubt we're gonna have McDaniel's
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: and our team, you know, especially how he's playing right now.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: But my point is the whole youth movement of the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Big three is at NAS and McDaniels. And from an
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: offensive perspective, I do and did believe because he's proven
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: it that offensively that NOS could be a big three
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: now somewhat recently when he was starting in you know,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: on and off before that and after that, he has
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: shown in really the last few years, last two years,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: especially defensively, he has shown some leaps in defensive stuff. Now,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: there's still times whe were like, oh man, that was
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: so that was way too easy, you know, getting a
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: layup by him or whatever. And we can only survive
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: so much this year with that randall in Nos or that,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: especially Nas and McDaniels. You know, people were ready to
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: go with that lineup. It's like hold on, you know,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I'm not saying I won't ever see it, but just
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: hold on. But I was on board with NAS here.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: In fact, the Durant things all in where I think
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: if they acquired Durant and Nas wasn't in there, because
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: he may have to be in there, I don't know,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: but if he wasn't, maybe they wouldn't, they'd be all
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: in and they'd say screw it, and NOS would buy
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: our power for it. That was my lineup, Rudy in
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Nas in Durant and and and then it kind of
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: matters what you got left. It matters. What you traded,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: you know, but at that point I would go like
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: a defensive guy that could hit three, like nah, but
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: would NA still be here? You know, there's a lot
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: of talk, you know, would they still be all in
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and say screw it, we'll we'll pay the most luxury
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: tax because we feel like we win the chip. I
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: don't know. But my point is I did. I got it,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: admit I did not believe that McDaniels could be one
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: of the Big three. And that was all around offense.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: You know, early in his career, I thought, yep, I
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: really thought that that I thought he'd be one of
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: the Big three or whatever, right, like he could be.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: And some of it was you know, he had his
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: first year he shot thirty six percent. You know, his
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: third year he shot almost thirty nine point eight percent
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: from the three. Now, once you know, he he has
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: the most volume this year at three point nine three
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: pointers a game. But it's not like crazy difference three
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: point one, three point six, three point four, three point five,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: three point nine, So he hasn't taken a ton more shots, right,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: but these last two years thirty three point seven. Right now,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: it's thirty three point eight. It was like you know,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: he's gonna be a liability and this year being that
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: cat was gone, being that he's started his new deal,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: now he's not maxed out, but it's it's healthy, you know,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: for because you can't call him a three and d right,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: And so I thought he was a very valuable asset
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: whether we keep him or not. But I wasn't sold
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: he could be a big three, I got admit, and
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: it was all due to offense. And I don't I'm
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: not saying, man, he should be averaging twenty this year. No, No,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: that's not what I'm saying. But you know, like anywhere
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: from fifteen to sixteen upwards of seventeen eighteen, anywhere in there,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: like moving forward, we're gonna need him in that fifteen
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: to eighteen point range. Probably, it depends on who we
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: bring back, and you know, there's a lot that can
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: still change, right, But in a weird way, it was
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: a blessing in disguise that Randall went down for February
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: and during that time eighteen points forty eight, basically forty
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: eight percent from the field, you know, shooting really good
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: from the free throw line, and he's he's averaging, you know,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: like he shot about fifteen times a game, but he
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: still couldn't shoot the three. You know, he was under
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: thirty percent. But to still have eighteen points. And the
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: way he has gained confidence now in his game, it
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: really has it's really shone a new light. And now
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: so far in March, he's averaging sixteen points at any dude,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: fifty seven point three from the field, I mean seven
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: of ten, six to twelve, seven to twelve, seven to
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: thirteen four six, eight of thirteen. Like it's it's impressive.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: And you know he is. There's a little bump in
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: his threes. I guess he's shooting forty two percent so far.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: So he has knocked him down. He was one of
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: sixty other night. He has a three to nine and
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: a one of four. But he's been knocking them down
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: in March a little bit. And I don't expect him
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: to shoot thirty eight nine percent per se, but you know,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: he's just got to make what he does work. And
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: he is. And I was like, Okay, we saw that
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: without Randall and without Devincenzo, and so you're getting more shots. Okay, cool,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: you did it for a month, right, And and I
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: was like really waiting to see would he keep doing
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: this when other scorers come back, and that's something that
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I really wanted to see, and sure enough, he's been
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: doing it. So obviously he's got to keep doing it right, obviously,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: but I now so since February first, this is from
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: al Horton, thirty six minutes a game, eighteen points, eight boards.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: And that's another thing. His board game is way better,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: but fifty two percent from the field since February first,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: thirty six percent from three, he's a plus one thirty four.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Like he's playing his ass off, dude. And I'm starting
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: to see that versatility where sometimes he'll just look like
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: he's gonna take a three and then drive and driving, dish,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: driving all the way to the rock, get fouled, do
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: that little leaner, that little once he gets in and
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: within a certain amount of radius. I don't know exactly
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: how many feet it is from the bucket, but he's
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: so damn long. And we know he has offensive skills. Shit,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: you see these highlights, not just you know, from college,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: of course, and he's always popped off in the playoffs.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: A game, a game here, a game there, you know
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: where he's just going off. But most of that was
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: like three pointers just getting hot. He hit five or
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: six or whatever, you know, and he did that younger,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: you know, in his career. And I remember the I
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: think the last game Memphis, he was going off and
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, dude, And I really had a
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: lot of hope for him then. And I gotta admit, like,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: he's a hell of a player. But like I said,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: I didn't think he could be a big three, like
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: overall because he was such a liability on offense. And
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: now my mind is changing, it really is. And let's
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: see if he can keep this up. Like I said,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: he doesn't have to average twenty points. But you know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: if we do trade Randal in the offseason, that's gonna
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: be another score. Odds are we're gonna bring in you know,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: we're not gonna bring in Durant. We're probably gonna bring
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: in two bench players, you know, and putting odds in
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: the starting lineup, you know, you know, in that scenario.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: But we gotta let all this stuff play out. I've
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: been saying it all year. It's similar to the vikings
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: of the Sam Donald stuff. Early on, it looked great.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Mid season, he looked bad, then he got a shit together,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Then he looked like, shit, you know, you gotta let
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: it play out. So I will say, though I don't know,
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: like if Dante's still on the team in the third
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: scorers like Dante in McDaniels, you know, maybe maybe he
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: could do that. I don't know if he could be
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: a top three scorer on the team, I gotta admit,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: but what he brings all around, and Dan Moore has
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: been really good at talking about this on this podcast
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: as far as not always on the ball and how
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: much energy that gives him. It's also the confidence too,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: so the combination of being less worn down but when
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: you need it he can get on that that he
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: can he can still guard that player, but to not
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: have to do it all the time has been huge.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: So McDaniels is really showing me something. Man, he really is,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: and he's finding his offense. It's a for nowadays basketball.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: It is kind of a strange. He's a mid range
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: guy and he's shooting a damn good percentage at it.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: So he's found his groove, his confidence, and I think
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: that's why I may be a little bit more mad
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: at Ant for not flicking out to a wide open
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Jade could have won the game last night. On a three,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: you know what I mean, instead of playing herobar. But yeah,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: that was kind of a long winded thing. But McDaniels, man,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: he's really really showing me a lot. So I just
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: hope he keeps it up like he has been. By
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: the way, this is from Aaron Gleman. Most points before
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: turning twenty four in the NBA. Lebron Durant can't carmelo
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: an Ant. Edwards has passed Luca McGrady and Kobe on
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: that list in the past six weeks. Now, you know
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: the Kobe thing, It was tougher to be good early
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: or high level early back then. If you look at
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: people get surprised at Kobe's first two years. Shit, you
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: can look at KG. He had a pretty good year,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: but sam Mitchell talked flipped into starting him because he
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: didn't even start for a while. I think he started
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: like half the season or something like that, a little
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: over half to see, but Kobe took a while to
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: get gone. You know, it was a deep team too.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: But and it's funny, there's another stat. I saw twenty
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: and twenty ten games. Now McDaniels has six twenty ten games.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: They've all come since February first, like it's he's playing amazing, man,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: and I really hope he keeps it up. It's man,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I'm just happy. And here's Al Horton again. This was
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: before these recent two games, but eight and ten start.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: That was with the Timberroves. Since then thirty one and nineteen,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: so that's probably thirty two and twenty now. But it
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: was the seventh best in the NBA in that stretch.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: By the way, it was nice to see Cat go
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: off on Draymond Green. And I remember having a segment
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: on that my last show, but I don't think it
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: came out of what. I can't remember. It's been a while.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Did we know why he missed that game yet? I
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: don't think we did. And it was for a funeral.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I don't think I knew that yet. I can't remember
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: if I finished that segment saying that, But that made
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: it even worse, and for Draymond to be like, man,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: that sucks. Man. You know, I feel for the family,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: but the podcast must go on. It's like, wow, dude,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Like nobody's saying you gotta shut down your podcast, dude,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: but it's kind of like, hey, man, you know, wake
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: the fuck up A little bit. That's all like, get
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: out of your own fucking shit, Like, don't. That's all different.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: That's a whole different thing. There was also this al
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Horton stat ten point fourth quarter comebacks right the previous
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: twelve seasons before old FINCHI got here, the there was
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: thirteen of them. The record down ten thirteen of five
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: hundred and thirteen games in twelve seasons. We have thirteen
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: already in four years. So that tells you something. Obviously,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: that tells you a lot, damn it. But anyway, we
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: got okay, so New Orleans right, so when you look
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: at their record, it's like, ah, man, they sucked, dude,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: no problem. Slow down a little bit now. I Trey
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Murphy's been going off. I think he's not playing though.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I think he's been ruled out if I remember correctly.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: But there's this guy, cause we don't match up with
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: all that well. Think you've heard of him, Zion Williamson.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: His college block game highlights are nuts. Now, Zion messes
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: this up, dude, And even like CJ. Mccloughm, he messes like,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: we don't necessarily like match up great with them. So,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: like I said, I think they are missing a twenty
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: point scorer. But it's like we got to play him
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: back to back. And I already had in my head
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: that we're gonna beat the Pacers, but we're gonna split
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: one in one and then on the on the road
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: with an Indiana team. I don't know who's gonna be back.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: But I thought there was actually a chance for two
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: and two, And now I'm thinking there's it's gonna be
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: two and two because we already lost Indiana, right because
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: I didn't technically predict this game, but I would have
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: predicted to win. So now I kind of think that
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: we're gonna go too and two during this stretch because
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: I don't know if we can. I know how many
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: wins they have, but I don't, and I know they
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: just got their ass kicked, but I don't know if
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: we can beat him back to back, even if it
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: is home. I just don't know. Al Horton again, Wolves
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: have now missed their last eleven game, tying yer go
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: ahead shots in the last ten seconds of the fourth
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: quarter or overtime. And if you look back someone added
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: pitless pitless ball shot track began nineteen ninety seven. Since then,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: two hundred and forty six players have taken at least
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: twenty shots out of that variety when they mentioned, you
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: know the last oh, this was after the take a
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: leader tie with twenty four seconds or less in fourth
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: quarter and overtime. Edwards ranks two forty three out of
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: two forty six. Now, I don't know if that's one fact,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure. So according to Charlie Walton, Pelicans
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: ruled out to John Day, Murray, Herb Jones, Herb Jones,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Herb Herb Jones, and Trey Murphy. Okay, so right now
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: they've lost seven of eight, we're twelve and a half
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: point favorite. But let's just calm down a little bit.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I mentioned how Curry Steve Curse as Curry is exhausted,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: so he's he's missing the Bucks game to night, which
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: is going on as we speak. I just don't know
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: if Joannice and they were He was day to day
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: with a knee, and so was Lillard, So I don't
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: I don't know if they're playing, but man, that'd be
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: nice if they It's just so we could get that
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: because like I said, we really we really fucked up, man,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: we really fucked up. So just looking at this thing,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: trying to kind of focus in on when to do
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: a show next, because there is that large gap from
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Monday to Friday, so it would be the next three game,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: then do a show maybe in that time. So I
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: think I'll do that just to kind of come back
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: next week because we, like I mentioned, we played Tomorrow
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: night at home New Orleans, Friday, and then Monday, and
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: we have that large gap. So I'll somewhere in there.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Maybe it'll be Thursday, more than likely it would be
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: maybe a Wednesday. I don't know, but after that Pacers game,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I'll come back and do a podcast catch it up
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: and we'll talk about those three games. Hopefully we can
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: win all three, but I'm gonna go two and one,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: which makes us two and two of our last four
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: and the sky's not falling. But that's just kind of
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: what I feel. That's just kind of what I feel,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: all right. So on of the Gophers real quick, obviously,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: you know they were able to qualify for the Big Ten,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: you know, Conference Attorney and got booted right away. Funny enough,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: though they they have win over Oregon, Michigan, U C.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: L A. They're all in the in the I think
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: what Yale and Yale and Oh my, I think it is.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: And so you know it's like we have some good wins,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: but like you know, it was like teams that missed
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: the attorney. We dropped a bunch to those way too many.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: But you know, Ben Johnson, like I said that, the
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: key with Ben Johnson, you know, the the fair shake
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: when it comes to NLI and it will be a
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: little different because the schools now can get involved in
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: some of that more than they were, but because there's
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: still a house build that has to be passed, but
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: it's gonna pass just at our time, and there's a
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: you know, there's some budget stuff and all that. But
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: the thing with Ben Johnson is that first year, you know,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Flex says, you know we or year zero, it really
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: was your negative one because the whole fucking team left.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: And it's because he didn't have pedigree as far as
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: being a head coach more likely, but I've said it,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I keep saying that he was a damn good recruiter.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: He just couldn't keep the players. And I believe a
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: lot of that had to do with money. Now the
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: higher after Patino and Patino's done really well with New Mexico,
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: we'll see if they can advance, Like what were they
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: like a sixth or fifth seed last year and they lost.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: I think they lost in the first round. I think
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: everyone in the Mount West did. Mount West got four
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: in again, so we'll see if they can play better.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: Speaking of New Mexico as a tough matchup, but anyway,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: I digress benj The key with Ben Johnson is he
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: never was the head coach at a smaller school and
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: so he just it was a risk. And he had
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: been an assistant at Marquette and at what Nebraska like,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: so he had been part of good, good programs, but
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: not like even elite program you know what I mean.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: So it's whereas Patino only had one year. But if
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: you look at who the benches he was on and
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: just obviously his dad, clearly he had more experience. But
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: I don't know. The point is like you'd like to have,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: you know, hired a coach that had coaching head coaching experience,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: and that's usually the best method, especially in college basketball.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: It's usually the best method. And we've heard about the
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: hometown Nico from Minneapolis right Colorado State, and a lot
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: of people make it sound like there it's a done deal.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: There's other like the high Point coach, Huss Loyal of Chicago,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: Valentine Calhoun at Utah State. There's others, Anthony Grant at Dayton,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: the Drake coach mcclallum, like they're they're Craig Smeth's name
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: was thrown around, like you know, so there's there's some
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: names out there that have a lot of good experience, right. Actually,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Chad Hartman broke this down. The Gophers men basketball team
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: last finished higher than fourth place in the Big Ten,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: but the last time they okay, since nineteen eighty two.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: The last time they finished higher than fourth was nineteen
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: eighty two, And he said, yes, I remember ninety seven,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: but that doesn't count. That's crazy. Now, as far as
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: firing the coach in the middle of the night, like
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: it getting released at one am, one eleven or whatever.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: They could have waited till the next day. They could have.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: I saw justin guard clear that up. He's like, no
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: good way to do it. As far as firing him,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: the NCAA committee role adds another challenging adds another challenge
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: for timing. He wanted to do it in person, wanted
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: to do it quickly. If you were falling a private plane,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: last night, like me, the one from Indie Executive, the
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: Indie Indie Executives flying Cloud would Oh the plane flew
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: back at Indy this morning. Okay, I got lost in
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: that tweet. Sorry, So yeah, the timing was weird, but
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: it is what it is. He did have four years,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: so I'm not really I think he had a shot.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: But financially, if we get a new coach, can we
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: get that NLI money up enough to retain because like
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: I said, I don't know how great of a coach
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: he is x'es and o's, but he can recruit his
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: ass off. And I think maybe some of those guys
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: would have came back next year maybe if we would
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: have done better, but it was always having to retool everything,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: and so yeah, the U has to like allocate the resources.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: And I do favor the Colorado State coach, but there
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: are other guys out there. Shots out to Dawson Garcia.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: Marcus Fuller had a tweet here Gophers history or remember
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: Dawson Garcia as a top ten scorer ever fifteen and
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: fifty seven points. His legacy goes beyond buckets. Passed up
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: a lot to return to represent his home state. Yeah, dude,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: that that was huge, man, that was huge. So yeah, well,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: we'll see. We have I think Frank Mitchell, we have Rigsby, obviously,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: we have that Parker Jefferson who's coming in. But he
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: said he's just going to keep an open mind and
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: see who they hire. Asuma betts Grove like, we have
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: some players, no doubt, but you know, and by the way,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Coyle said he wasn't gonna at this point retain a
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: search firm. You know how, you'll get a search firm
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: and then they'll help you out with finding a coach,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: which kind of tells me that he knows who he's
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: gonna hire. But yeah, supposedly the A d was like,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I never heard anything that ad for Colorado State was like, oh,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: that's news to me. Never heard anything. Yeah, this is
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: what someone but oh that's not the tweet. I'm just
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: looking for the quote. But yeah, it sounds like it
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: sounds like it's a done deal. But like I said,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: that'd be such a Minnesota sports thing that this dude
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: goes to the Elite eight and then all of a
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: sudden he doesn't want to go there, come here, and
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, we've waited two and a
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: half weeks. We don't have a we don't have a coach.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and I also saw this. The Timberwolves are
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: top ten in offense and defense for the first time
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: since the two thousand and three two thousand and four season.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: I also saw a stat where the most this is
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: kind of misleading, the most three pointers by a center
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: this season is nas Reid and he has played more
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: center this year, but it's misleading. So in the West,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: it's Oklahoma. Oklahoma and Memphis are the teams in the
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: West that are top ten in the offense and defense.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: So and we've had a lot of games where it's
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: been spread, very spread, you know, as far as the
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: offense and stuff. That's that's been looking good. But yeah, anyway,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: I've been going way too long. Anyway, I'm gonna get
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: out of here. Like I said, I'll be back after
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: that Utah game in that gap of time, so basically
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: next week, midweek sometime, hopefully we go undefeated, get back
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: on the good foot tomorrow night. I'm telling you man
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: this New Orleans. Don't do not I'm gonna say it
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: was the third third time. Don't look at their win record.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Do not look at their win record how many wins? Oh,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: they only have this many wins. Yeah, they got two
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: guys that usually tord Us anyway, not trying to be negative,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: just trying to be realistic. I'm out peace,
