- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
- 0:07Speaker 1: podcasts Yeah Oh we are fired. Here a NHL Unscripted.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Thank you once again to the NHL and I Heard
- 0:25Speaker 1: for this collaboration. He's demers On Burke. It's always great
- 0:28Speaker 1: to have you with us coming up with this episode.
- 0:29Speaker 1: We're talking about a big time, big time couple of guests. Okay,
- 0:33Speaker 1: zach Arnsky might only win the Norris he didn't get
- 0:35Speaker 1: Heart Trophy consideration.
- 0:36Speaker 2: He's been amazing for the Columbus Boo Jackets.
- 0:38Speaker 1: You're gonna love zach stories not only but Columbus, but
- 0:41Speaker 1: also fond remembrances of the late great Johnny Gudreau. And
- 0:44Speaker 1: also we're talking to Swaggy p. You know you've seen
- 0:46Speaker 1: all of his stunts. This guy can stick handle like
- 0:48Speaker 1: like the wind, and he's got some great stories just
- 0:50Speaker 1: about quite frankly unique locales that he's been to. Also,
- 0:54Speaker 1: by the in terms of non hockey talk, I cannot wait.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Cinephile in sixty I convinced Shady and producer Tale to
- 0:59Speaker 1: watch the substance, which is oscar nominated in a bevy
- 1:02Speaker 1: of categories. See me more right now is the favorite
- 1:04Speaker 1: to win Best Actors. Cannot to wait to hear the reaction.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Plus the Grammys, Everyone's still buzzing about Bianca Censori, Kanye
- 1:10Speaker 1: West better half, and her lack of an outfit.
- 1:12Speaker 2: However, we kick.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Things off with my recent visit to Smashville, my first
- 1:18Speaker 1: time ever at a national Petits guy, I've been to
- 1:20Speaker 1: Nashville before, but JD, you talk about a perfect locale.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I mean you're literally right on Broadway. I can go
- 1:26Speaker 1: to Johnny Cash Museum.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And it burns, burns burns. You can go to Tootsi's.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You go to Justin Timblay's restaurant and then go watch hockey.
- 1:34Speaker 2: My favorite brother.
- 1:35Speaker 1: The Pecky Arene statue outside just like Pecki Arena all
- 1:38Speaker 1: time great. You go inside. Now, this was a Monday
- 1:41Speaker 1: night only game in town. Auto Centers norther NHL games
- 1:43Speaker 1: on the Monday night. But when they score, I love it.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I love it. I want some more of it.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Nashville unique sensation, a unique place to watch hockey game.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I mean, I've never a statue of a guy that's
- 1:55Speaker 3: never won good goalie. Though Pecki is great, cold, we
- 1:58Speaker 3: never want.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I was taken aback. I'm like wow, Peck reading like.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Okay, I never I mean, you never want to cup
- 2:03Speaker 3: or anything. It's like, I'm not asking for a trophy
- 2:05Speaker 3: and not a statue in San Jose. But anyway, but
- 2:09Speaker 3: it's so fun. I called the game there a couple
- 2:12Speaker 3: of weeks ago, and I was calling for the Sharks,
- 2:15Speaker 3: and it's just a great When you're not a huge
- 2:18Speaker 3: hockey market, you need to be in downtown like that,
- 2:20Speaker 3: smack dab in the middle in the action. People are
- 2:23Speaker 3: gonna come, people are gonna enjoy it. That's kind of
- 2:25Speaker 3: why it was always tough for Phoenix and Arizona to
- 2:28Speaker 3: work because they never just put it right down on
- 2:31Speaker 3: the heart of Scottsdale and let's ride. You know, they
- 2:33Speaker 3: had it downtown for a bit. It did well, then
- 2:35Speaker 3: they moved to Glendale. But it's that's why smash Pille works,
- 2:38Speaker 3: It's why Tampa works, just right in the heart of
- 2:41Speaker 3: the city.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Let's ride.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's great, man, And let's talk about this Attawa
- 2:44Speaker 1: Centers team because they're surging right now. You know, Brady
- 2:47Speaker 1: Chuck's a fun player to watch. I think most hockey
- 2:49Speaker 1: fans nobody brings the table. But I want to get
- 2:50Speaker 1: your thoughts specifically on Jake Sanderson because he's been terrific recently.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Our buddy Thomas Hickey, who you spent five hours with
- 2:57Speaker 1: on Coast to Coast last week with any Petrello, Hicks
- 2:59Speaker 1: was raving about him. Thomas was a lot long. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 1: by the way, I asked five hours ago. I loved
- 3:04Speaker 1: it because it's a long shift.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I'm not gonna five hours and then I think there's
- 3:08Speaker 2: an overtime game or some nonsense. I know, you gotta
- 3:09Speaker 2: shoot yourself.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Thomas Hickey listened to this, so I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 3:13Speaker 3: be real nice with what I say. No, I love Hicks.
- 3:17Speaker 3: He's great. Hicks is like iced to my fire, you know.
- 3:20Speaker 3: He's he's very analytical, statistical, knows his stuff. And my
- 3:24Speaker 3: favorite thing is to try to get him to laugh
- 3:26Speaker 3: if I can get him to giggle, because he's like,
- 3:28Speaker 3: you could tell like the best joke and he's like, yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 3: that's funny, and you're like, oh god, I need to
- 3:35Speaker 3: giggle because he's just he's that guy, like it's so stoic,
- 3:39Speaker 3: you know, like stoicism. He could teach it in a
- 3:42Speaker 3: class at Harvard, but I think.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It fits his hockey still time.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Be so good as a deep pairing together. It's just
- 3:50Speaker 3: it'd be so good. But yeah, back to the Ottawa Centers,
- 3:52Speaker 3: Jake Thomas Sandman, as you were mentioning the Senators, I
- 3:56Speaker 3: said he better team me up on Jake Sanderson. I'm
- 3:59Speaker 3: not joking in my head. I was like the Sandman,
- 4:02Speaker 3: mister Sandman.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Nice good song, rather than under Stamon to go to
- 4:06Speaker 2: mister Samon. I like it.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Our producer Steve Tronzano at Angel Network's gonna be so mad.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But Johnny Cash and mister Samon.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but I digress. But yeah, this team is. You know,
- 4:15Speaker 3: I tweeted a couple of days ago, I said, I
- 4:17Speaker 3: am on the bandwagon. I'm rooting for this team. I've
- 4:20Speaker 3: been against them for two years at the network, saying
- 4:23Speaker 3: they got to show me something. I can't jump on
- 4:25Speaker 3: this bandwagon. I like the mix of guys they have,
- 4:28Speaker 3: and they're starting to believe. They're starting to play a
- 4:30Speaker 3: good defensive, structured system. You know, credit to Travis Green
- 4:34Speaker 3: coming in and making it work. And I thought they
- 4:36Speaker 3: were kind of dead in the water losing Linas Olmark,
- 4:39Speaker 3: but then you know, Mari Linen comes in right story
- 4:41Speaker 3: shoots the lights out, and you know they're getting decent
- 4:45Speaker 3: and serviceable goaltending and they've just bought in. And you heard,
- 4:49Speaker 3: you know, I heard Brady Kachuk talk and he said,
- 4:52Speaker 3: you know, sorry not break. Chuck claud Dru was like,
- 4:55Speaker 3: guys are buying in. They understand that this is the
- 4:56Speaker 3: way we have to play if we want to make
- 4:58Speaker 3: the playoffs. We can't be an I. We have to
- 5:01Speaker 3: be a WEI And they're really bought in and it's
- 5:03Speaker 3: fun to want. It's a team that I'm rooting for
- 5:06Speaker 3: to make the playoffs because I'm sick of seeing the
- 5:08Speaker 3: Bruins in the playoffs and I'm sick of these other teams.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I want to see some new blood. Give me the sense.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Let's talk a little.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Money may not have been the biggest headline of hockey
- 5:15Speaker 1: this week, but it was the biggest news the NHL
- 5:17Speaker 1: and nhl P announcing Friday the team payroll ranges for
- 5:21Speaker 1: upcoming seasons. According to the memo, the cap will go
- 5:23Speaker 1: up to ninety five point five million next season, one
- 5:26Speaker 1: hundred and four million for twenty twenty six twenty twenty seven,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and what one hundred and thirteen point five million dollars
- 5:31Speaker 1: for twenty twenty seven, twenty eight. I don't need you
- 5:33Speaker 1: to break down the finances. I know you can go
- 5:35Speaker 1: to a different bank than me, but I want to
- 5:37Speaker 1: know this. Are you ready for one more pay day?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Can we get listen? You're still a young man?
- 5:41Speaker 2: Demurs comes back one more pay day.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I went to waste management today and you know it's
- 5:46Speaker 3: probably about a two mile jaunt from here. I mean
- 5:49Speaker 3: I jogged it and I I was good.
- 5:52Speaker 2: You're in good shit Still.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I played Men's League on Monday. I still got the juice.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I just need to work at it. I don't know
- 5:58Speaker 3: if my knees can hang on, but I could do
- 6:00Speaker 3: it though. I think I could maybe pull it off.
- 6:03Speaker 3: But yeah, it's a great you know, the league's built,
- 6:05Speaker 3: it's growing. It's probably the hottest hockey's been in a
- 6:08Speaker 3: long time. Uh, it's very fun to watch. I'm a
- 6:11Speaker 3: little worried at these teams in bad, bad tax states
- 6:15Speaker 3: and tax and especially Canadian teams struggled. Oh it's tough
- 6:21Speaker 3: right now, Like it this is gonna be tough for
- 6:23Speaker 3: you know, like this is a clear advantage for the
- 6:25Speaker 3: no tax states, Like this is so clear. So I'm
- 6:27Speaker 3: hoping the league kind of maybe looks at this and says,
- 6:30Speaker 3: how can we structure this? Maybe figure out a way
- 6:34Speaker 3: to even the playing field a little bit. But you
- 6:37Speaker 3: know they're gonna be able to play the top guys.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And the important thing is is I think we have
- 6:41Speaker 3: a way better product than a lot of these sports,
- 6:43Speaker 3: and it hasn't been reflected. And now it's it is
- 6:46Speaker 3: very it leans heavily on TV deals and stuff like that,
- 6:51Speaker 3: but we're starting to get that, we're starting to get
- 6:52Speaker 3: traction or social media presence growing. We have unscripted with
- 6:56Speaker 3: Vicin Demurs. We are bringing the juice.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You said last week you're not gonna talk about anymore,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and you have to talk about it.
- 7:02Speaker 2: JT.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Miller's on Broadway and JT. Miller is fired up to
- 7:05Speaker 1: be back with the Rangers. The vacover Cannucks make the move.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Who are they gonna trade? Well, they listen. They moved
- 7:09Speaker 1: Miller along with Eric Ranstrom, Jackson Dorington, the Rangers, Filipido,
- 7:13Speaker 1: Victor Mancini and a twenty twenty five first round pick.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Can you want more? We'll trade with you Moore. We're
- 7:17Speaker 2: not gonna trade Elias Pederson.
- 7:19Speaker 1: How about Marcus Patterson and forward Joe O'Connor from Pittsburgh
- 7:21Speaker 1: for Danton Heyen, Vincent Deharney, prospect Melvin Fernstrom and a
- 7:25Speaker 1: twenty twenty five first rounder. The Canucks they should be
- 7:29Speaker 1: much better thatcher dam goes a top ten goal if
- 7:31Speaker 1: he's healthy and you're making moves and Miller's out, he
- 7:34Speaker 1: was a clubhouse cancer watch out for the Canucks.
- 7:36Speaker 4: JD.
- 7:36Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 7:38Speaker 3: It's just I don't they traded the wrong guy. I
- 7:41Speaker 3: wouldn't have got rid of J. C. Miller. Uh, listen,
- 7:44Speaker 3: but you can't listen there. They've they showed you who
- 7:47Speaker 3: they're betting on, and it's it's Elias Petterson, not the
- 7:50Speaker 3: d man, but the forward, the one making eleven point six.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I don't mind the Marcus Patterson trade. I think he's
- 7:56Speaker 3: a great underrated defenseman. I like what they did there.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Dre O'Connor is a great depth guy. But man, this
- 8:01Speaker 3: this has just been a side show for this Canucks team,
- 8:04Speaker 3: and I feel for the guys, the core guys there
- 8:07Speaker 3: that you know, had to deal with all of it.
- 8:09Speaker 3: And you know now you're hearing news that the JT.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Miller trade didn't sit well with a lot of guys
- 8:14Speaker 3: and it's not going to solve the room problems. And JT.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Miller goes to Broadway and scores two right away. It's
- 8:21Speaker 3: I have to give a shout out again to you know,
- 8:22Speaker 3: Brad Richardson at Missing Kirkfhew. We talked last night. I
- 8:25Speaker 3: was at his house for his fortieth. He's an old bastard.
- 8:28Speaker 3: But he was saying like when he left, I don't
- 8:31Speaker 3: know how long it was three three years ago from Vancouver.
- 8:35Speaker 3: He like went to Alvin and was like, hey, you
- 8:37Speaker 3: need to surround JT. Miller with veterans because you can't
- 8:40Speaker 3: lose this guy because he's invaluable because the way a
- 8:44Speaker 3: guy with jam like that that, Yeah, he's a little
- 8:47Speaker 3: bit you know, squirrely at times, you know, mentally yelling
- 8:50Speaker 3: and stuff like that. He gets very he gets very emotional, Yeah,
- 8:53Speaker 3: very emotional. But you need to surround with the good
- 8:56Speaker 3: veterans to be like, hey, like relax, you're good, and
- 8:58Speaker 3: you're gonna be able to harness that power and really
- 9:00Speaker 3: make him a dominant player, which he is. And they
- 9:04Speaker 3: just didn't do that, and they kind of said he
- 9:06Speaker 3: can run the team, and I don't think he's a
- 9:08Speaker 3: guy that can run the team. Like now he's in
- 9:10Speaker 3: New York. You got Crider, you got Zabanazad, which you
- 9:14Speaker 3: know it is what it is, but you got Pineron,
- 9:16Speaker 3: you get out in Fox. He can't go yell at
- 9:18Speaker 3: these guys because those guys be like hey, zip it
- 9:20Speaker 3: or be like listen, this just doesn't work with us,
- 9:22Speaker 3: and it's gonna work well. Like this Rangers team. I'm
- 9:26Speaker 3: not gonna say it, but this team could be back.
- 9:29Speaker 3: They're missing a d man, but they could be back.
- 9:31Speaker 3: They could sneak into the playoffs now. And wow, we've
- 9:33Speaker 3: been I've been all over them all year. So you know,
- 9:36Speaker 3: I don't mind the deals they made. And you've just
- 9:39Speaker 3: seen a team that's been galvanized by this trade by
- 9:41Speaker 3: getting JT. Miller versus a you know, you still hear
- 9:43Speaker 3: noise in a leaky ship from the Vancouver Canucks, which
- 9:47Speaker 3: it's a mess. It's a mess there.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we're recording this on a Wednesday night.
- 9:50Speaker 1: The Rangers beat Boston by the way, so, as you mentioned,
- 9:52Speaker 1: perhaps pushing towards the playffs Alder's been red hot too.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Speaking of the other New York team, they've been amazing
- 9:56Speaker 1: they're making to push towards the playoffs.
- 9:57Speaker 2: But you have special incident on this trade.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Dallas Stars getting Michael Granlin and Cody cc from your Sharks,
- 10:03Speaker 1: a first and a third and twenty twenty five.
- 10:05Speaker 2: The Flames also load up.
- 10:06Speaker 1: They get Morgan Frostjowel Faby from the Flyers for Andre Kuzmenko,
- 10:09Speaker 1: Jacob Pelcha, a second runner and a seventh rounder. First off,
- 10:12Speaker 1: the Sharks, what are they thinking of trading Grantland?
- 10:15Speaker 3: They had to and I think, you know he's up
- 10:16Speaker 3: this year. I'm hoping. I texted my career on the side,
- 10:20Speaker 3: you know, I just he probably doesn't even know that
- 10:23Speaker 3: it's me, but I just went keep cooking. That's what
- 10:26Speaker 3: I wrote, Keep cooking. I love that they got some
- 10:29Speaker 3: draft capital listening. Granlin is going to be a rental
- 10:33Speaker 3: for a team. I don't know if Dallas will resign him.
- 10:35Speaker 3: And Cody Sees is a very good depth defenseman, can
- 10:38Speaker 3: play up and down the lineup. But Mikaut Grantland's for
- 10:41Speaker 3: majority of this season been the best producing forward for
- 10:44Speaker 3: the Sharks. You know, obviously it's it is Celebrini's team,
- 10:47Speaker 3: but Grantland's a great veteran could play up and down
- 10:50Speaker 3: the lineup. He's skilled the place penalty kill. It's a
- 10:53Speaker 3: great pickup for Dallas. It's one of those trades where
- 10:55Speaker 3: both teams won and you've seen and I think the
- 10:58Speaker 3: Sharks have a really good development team.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Okay, great news as far as San Jose is concerned.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Meantime, just thought here only because Ron Hexstall is gonna
- 11:06Speaker 1: get to shut out. He wasn't expecting their swaggy p
- 11:08Speaker 1: Interview Farraby O'Brien, Patrick Frost, Rubostov provoff Ron Hexstall. First
- 11:14Speaker 1: round picks no longer the Flyers. Now only Stanheim and
- 11:17Speaker 1: Travis Connecting are still around. Only one of his six
- 11:20Speaker 1: second round picks is still around. That's Ginning and three
- 11:22Speaker 1: or fourteen in the first two rounds. So a lot
- 11:24Speaker 1: of the guys at Ron Hextall picked are no longer
- 11:26Speaker 1: the Flyers. Danny Breer is clearly making his team his stamp.
- 11:29Speaker 1: What do you make of the Flames getting a couple
- 11:31Speaker 1: guys here in Frost.
- 11:32Speaker 3: And Farby, Yeah, I think listen. Craig Conry came out
- 11:36Speaker 3: and he said it clear as day. He said, these
- 11:38Speaker 3: guys earned the trade. You know, this Calgary team you
- 11:41Speaker 3: have Dustin Wolf a Calder Trophy. He's the leader right now.
- 11:44Speaker 3: He's the clubhouse leader. He went from plus six thousand
- 11:47Speaker 3: to I think he might be even money or getting close.
- 11:50Speaker 2: So do you think he's had a meetch Gov Hudson there, Oh.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Yeah, Dustin Wolf right now is the leader. He's the
- 11:55Speaker 3: club house leader. They lost last night, so it's gonna
- 11:57Speaker 3: be a little tough for him to kind of it's
- 11:59Speaker 3: gonna go. It's all gonna be dependent on if he
- 12:01Speaker 3: makes the playoffs. But sure they've earned this. And Craig
- 12:05Speaker 3: Connor and I love to see a GM had a
- 12:07Speaker 3: plan at the start of the season. He said, you
- 12:08Speaker 3: know what, these guys want to win. We're right there.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Why screw it, We're gonna.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Go for it.
- 12:13Speaker 3: We're gonna try to make the playoffs because these guys
- 12:14Speaker 3: are in it and it's not like they mortgage their future.
- 12:17Speaker 3: They brought in two guys that are gonna be part
- 12:19Speaker 3: of this court. Morgan Frost and Droel Faeriber are two
- 12:21Speaker 3: guys that could be very impactful for this team. Frost
- 12:24Speaker 3: kind of just didn't click with Tortorella. Hopefully he's going
- 12:27Speaker 3: to be better in Calgary and Farby's approven can be
- 12:29Speaker 3: a twenty thirty goal scorer yearly for this team. So
- 12:32Speaker 3: I think I love seeing a GM make this trade.
- 12:36Speaker 3: And I don't think they gave up much. They gave
- 12:37Speaker 3: up Kuzmenko. Kuzmenko's kind of struggled everywhere. He's gonna Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 3: it ain't gonna be great for him, going to see
- 12:44Speaker 3: towards Maybe he works with Mitchkov but I don't know.
- 12:47Speaker 3: He hasn't really showed me much. He can score, but
- 12:50Speaker 3: I'm not sure. And then Jacob Pelchi, who can be
- 12:53Speaker 3: an NHL player. I don't know if he will fully
- 12:57Speaker 3: make the jump. We'll see. Hopefully he does, but there's
- 13:00Speaker 3: a perfect coach in John Tortorella to kind of usher
- 13:03Speaker 3: him in. So I'm interested to see how it works.
- 13:06Speaker 3: But I love this by Calgary and I think it's
- 13:08Speaker 3: a great vote of confidence shown to the players on
- 13:11Speaker 3: this team.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I completely agree.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I mean, if you spend any time with Ryan Husky's
- 13:15Speaker 1: and easy got a roof for so, I'd love to
- 13:16Speaker 1: see the Calgary Flames in the playoffs for Husky that
- 13:18Speaker 1: great market.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Of course at Calgary, they love their Flames.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a real life Moonlight. Graham played one NHL game.
- 13:24Speaker 1: He told me the whole story. It's great, he was
- 13:25Speaker 1: because I wasn't going to be a guy, but they
- 13:27Speaker 1: gave me one game because I'd been in the organization forever.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And he goes, I played ten minutes because I remember
- 13:31Speaker 2: my first shift. I got my bell rug.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I did not play at all the third period, but
- 13:35Speaker 1: I got to play on the same is as Chris Chellio,
- 13:36Speaker 1: so it was great.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I see I got to play with me.
- 13:38Speaker 1: All right, we'll get to Zach Arnsky in just a second,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but first master trade. One of my boys is a
- 13:43Speaker 1: huge Knicks guy. So we were watching Nick Lakers Saturday night. Oh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I went to bed, turn on the awful game of it.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I'm like, how the hell the Knicks lose the Lakers
- 13:49Speaker 1: without Anthony Davis? Like as always, Lebron lighting up the
- 13:52Speaker 1: garden where Jordan used to always let up the garden
- 13:54Speaker 1: pisses me off away you go to buy wake up
- 13:56Speaker 1: six time I go, but this can't bleary eyed. I'm
- 13:58Speaker 1: rubbing the eyes. Goodnight, Luka. Doncic is now on the Lakers.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I'm like, what and I traded Anthony Davis with this case?
- 14:05Speaker 1: How does this always happen to Lakers, Like, how do
- 14:06Speaker 1: they get the guy agree he was twenty five years old,
- 14:08Speaker 1: about to be twenty six, won the great superstars in
- 14:11Speaker 1: their game, carried the.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Mavericks the NBA fils.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Last year, he gets traded for a thirty two year
- 14:15Speaker 1: guy who's been great, ten time All Star, but he's
- 14:17Speaker 1: made of glass, Like.
- 14:18Speaker 2: How are you getting?
- 14:19Speaker 1: You're getting Luca Dodgers for Anthony Davis and Lebron's and
- 14:22Speaker 1: he had no idea jd.
- 14:23Speaker 2: This is honestly, it's historic trade. They say it's the
- 14:26Speaker 2: first time ever.
- 14:26Speaker 1: NBA history two guys who have been All nbas many
- 14:29Speaker 1: times that they have been traded mid season.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Stunning.
- 14:33Speaker 3: First first off, you said something that I didn't. I
- 14:36Speaker 3: want to let you finish. But Lebron James not knowing
- 14:39Speaker 3: is the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. The guy,
- 14:43Speaker 3: the guy owns half the league with China. Give me
- 14:46Speaker 3: a break, Lebron James. I don't care how good he is,
- 14:48Speaker 3: Hall of Famer, one of the best, the goal the
- 14:51Speaker 3: go I think he's not tell me that.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Guys now twenty eight a game, He's unbelievable.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Do not tell me that guy's not run by China.
- 14:56Speaker 3: It is what it is. It's fine. He owns a
- 14:59Speaker 3: third of the league. Okay, and I Eithersten, we might
- 15:02Speaker 3: not get air time. It is what it is. It
- 15:04Speaker 3: is what it is. You do I say this, I
- 15:08Speaker 3: say this once every show you do you boo, you
- 15:11Speaker 3: get that paper boo boo. But listen to say that
- 15:14Speaker 3: he didn't know that it's his team. He's been running
- 15:16Speaker 3: this team for years. He made a hell of a trade.
- 15:19Speaker 3: He he had a podcast with JJ Reddick and then
- 15:22Speaker 3: the guys as coach. Oh what I don't know? Yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 15:25Speaker 5: This is.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Ridiculous, Like, let's just he should just come out and go, yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 3: I'm the GM. Just deal with it and everybody be fine.
- 15:34Speaker 3: But this is gonna go down as one of the
- 15:36Speaker 3: worst trades in history by the Dallas Mavericks. This is
- 15:41Speaker 3: a twenty five year.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Old stat Luca the reason why?
- 15:45Speaker 3: Who cares if he's yeah, he likes to have a
- 15:47Speaker 3: couple of Medellos or corps lights give him a break.
- 15:51Speaker 3: The guy's lights out, and he's a gamer. You can't
- 15:54Speaker 3: teach gamer, and you can't specifically an NBA, which is
- 15:57Speaker 3: a soft league. You cannot teach a gamer like Luca
- 16:00Speaker 3: can I guys like taped up all over the place
- 16:02Speaker 3: and taking his team to the fires. It's it's egregious
- 16:07Speaker 3: that this trade. This is the kind of trade where
- 16:09Speaker 3: you clean house top to bottom. So I mean, listen, great,
- 16:13Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, lebron James, fantastic GM work. It's incredible work.
- 16:17Speaker 3: But don't say you're don't say you didn't know. Did
- 16:20Speaker 3: not say you did not know. Don't lie to me.
- 16:24Speaker 3: If I had his power, you kidding me? I would
- 16:27Speaker 3: be wheeleding that swinging it around. I would who cares? Yeah,
- 16:31Speaker 3: his son's on the team. His son is not. His
- 16:34Speaker 3: son's a great G League guys, and he played.
- 16:37Speaker 2: He's awful. I had to watch it. This is a
- 16:39Speaker 2: good place there.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I root for I root for Bronni, I root for Brod.
- 16:42Speaker 1: The highlights last night, his first three pointer, like this
- 16:44Speaker 1: is really like Bronnie James.
- 16:45Speaker 2: As you said, his league, correct, it's his league.
- 16:49Speaker 3: He owns a third of the league. The fact that
- 16:52Speaker 3: I had to watch on Sports Center Kevin Durant and
- 16:55Speaker 3: these miserable sons ye showing having the trainer runs out
- 17:00Speaker 3: giving these guys their cell phones and they're on their
- 17:03Speaker 3: cell phones, like tweeting.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Your use you got a game going on?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Can you imagine I'd tell you what if I grabbed
- 17:09Speaker 3: a cell phone.
- 17:11Speaker 2: JT. Miller gets traded and you're in the coduck you
- 17:12Speaker 2: could grab yourself and hey, you.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Guys stabbed in the neck by somebody.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Hick Tacket would do it.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Rick would kill me.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Very unexpected and entertaining takes there from Jason Burr's Now
- 17:23Speaker 1: it's time for Zach Warenski, who is having a hell
- 17:26Speaker 1: of a season and he's a terrific guest.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Here he is episode ten and what a get for us.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Drafted eighth though raw B of the Columbus Blue Jackets
- 17:44Speaker 1: in the twenty fifteen draft. After starring at the University
- 17:47Speaker 1: of Michigan, he went pro immediately won a Calder Cup
- 17:49Speaker 1: with Lake Erie in twenty sixteen. He is currently enjoying
- 17:52Speaker 1: a career season for the upstart Blue Jackets. He's not
- 17:55Speaker 1: only in the conversation for the Norse Trophy, but he's
- 17:57Speaker 1: also in the conversation for the Hart Trophy. Zach Warnsky,
- 18:00Speaker 1: Welcome to nhln SCRIPTO. Great to see him, man.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Thanks for having me on, guys, I appreciate it so.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Partner in crime Jody Shelley said, you all, you're going
- 18:08Speaker 1: to love Zach, and we already love because you're two
- 18:09Speaker 1: minutes early.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Demurs.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Right now, he's gonta run the wate banagement open and
- 18:12Speaker 1: you're early. You're locked in, So I love it.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Man.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Listen, it's an amazing season you're having. I'm sure you're
- 18:17Speaker 1: a humble guy and a team guy, but talk to me,
- 18:19Speaker 1: how did you go from a good player to like
- 18:22Speaker 1: literally a legit.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Great defenseman in the North Trophy conversation.
- 18:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I've kind of said this the last
- 18:28Speaker 6: few months. I really don't think I've done anything differently.
- 18:30Speaker 6: But if you look at our team, look at Kroll, Marchenko,
- 18:33Speaker 6: Ken Johnson, Adam Fantaille, like all these young guys are
- 18:36Speaker 6: having great years. And when you're passing the pluck, the
- 18:39Speaker 6: guys that have confidence and are scoring goals, the points
- 18:42Speaker 6: just start to come. So, to be honest, I really
- 18:43Speaker 6: haven't done much differently. Sean Monahan has been a great.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Addition for us.
- 18:47Speaker 6: I feel like he's really been a superstar on our
- 18:49Speaker 6: team that doesn't get talked about enough. But yeah, just
- 18:52Speaker 6: like the guys I mentioned, guys just took step forward
- 18:54Speaker 6: this year and it's just been a lot of fun.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Our powerplays, click in, our top lines, click in. You know,
- 19:01Speaker 6: we're just clicking as a team. So I feel like
- 19:02Speaker 6: I really haven't done much different, just kind of playing
- 19:04Speaker 6: my game, and he had the points you're starting to
- 19:06Speaker 6: fall for me.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Zach, talk to me, thanks number one. Thanks for being
- 19:10Speaker 3: on man. I'm such a fan of your game, and
- 19:13Speaker 3: I just wanted to ask you because I dealt with
- 19:14Speaker 3: a lot of injury stuff when I played, and I
- 19:16Speaker 3: know you kind of caught the injury bug, stuff that
- 19:18Speaker 3: you couldn't really control. You know, how was it mentally
- 19:21Speaker 3: for you? Locking in and you know, things that you
- 19:23Speaker 3: learned throughout your career health wise, it's kind of helped
- 19:27Speaker 3: you because you know, you look fantastic. You look faster
- 19:29Speaker 3: than you've ever been this year.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I appreciate that. Yeah, injuries are tough. I
- 19:33Speaker 6: mean everyone goes through them. I think that's the main thing.
- 19:35Speaker 6: I feel like for me, I've had some pretty tough,
- 19:39Speaker 6: tough luck with it.
- 19:41Speaker 4: I feel like two seasons ago, when I pretty much
- 19:43Speaker 4: missed the whole season, I definitely.
- 19:44Speaker 6: Learned a lot about myself, found ways to contribute outside
- 19:48Speaker 6: of just playing the game's trying to be more of
- 19:50Speaker 6: a leader in the room, trying to learn from watching
- 19:53Speaker 6: on TV more and then just getting out, getting out
- 19:56Speaker 6: in the Columbus community and doing things, visiting the children hospital,
- 20:00Speaker 6: visiting people in my suite, first responder stuff like that.
- 20:03Speaker 6: I just felt like I really grew as a person
- 20:06Speaker 6: that season, even though I wasn't playing on the ice,
- 20:08Speaker 6: and then you kind of learn about people and the
- 20:11Speaker 6: people you're playing for in the community and the city.
- 20:13Speaker 6: And for me, the one thing that I learned a
- 20:16Speaker 6: lot was I kind of always knew it, but I
- 20:18Speaker 6: feel like when you go and see people that are
- 20:20Speaker 6: going through stuff, you know, real life stuff. Going through
- 20:23Speaker 6: an injury is really not that bad. So I'm fortunate.
- 20:27Speaker 6: I'm very fortunate, and I feel like, as tough as
- 20:30Speaker 6: it was to miss the whole season, like I said,
- 20:33Speaker 6: people go through.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Way worse things.
- 20:34Speaker 6: And just did what I could to get healthy and
- 20:37Speaker 6: learn as a player, and yeah, here we are. So
- 20:40Speaker 6: it's in a sense it was rewarding, but definitely sucks
- 20:44Speaker 6: being out.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Your head coach. Dean Everson's don an unbelievable job.
- 20:48Speaker 1: He's in the conversation right now if the jack abs,
- 20:49Speaker 1: especially if you guys can make the playoffs, looks like
- 20:51Speaker 1: a scary dude. Zachi Hair's in the back of my
- 20:55Speaker 1: next stand up, but I just look at it. But
- 20:56Speaker 1: then I hear him speaking. He's pretty funny, pretty entertaining.
- 20:59Speaker 1: What's the story you can tell you about Dean in
- 21:01Speaker 1: the locker room?
- 21:03Speaker 6: He's awesome, I mean honestly, Like when we first hired
- 21:06Speaker 6: him and he called me the first time, I was
- 21:08Speaker 6: I kind of had that same reaction as you, like,
- 21:09Speaker 6: I was a little bit nervous, a little scared, not
- 21:13Speaker 6: too sure what to expect. And he's been He's been
- 21:15Speaker 6: the opposite. To be honest, He's awesome being around the room.
- 21:18Speaker 6: He likes joking around. He keeps things super light. I
- 21:23Speaker 6: don't have any like great stories right now. I guess
- 21:25Speaker 6: he What I like.
- 21:25Speaker 4: About him is he just leaves us alone. Right.
- 21:27Speaker 6: He comes in, we do our work, he shows video,
- 21:32Speaker 6: and then he treats us as adults and pros and
- 21:34Speaker 6: let's us do our thing. And I felt that's why
- 21:36Speaker 6: we're responding well to him, right. He just knows how
- 21:39Speaker 6: to how to handle us. He's he's not keeping us
- 21:41Speaker 6: there for two hours and doing unnecessary stuff.
- 21:43Speaker 4: He gets us in, he gets us out. He wants
- 21:47Speaker 4: us to be home with our.
- 21:47Speaker 6: Families and and wives and dogs and all that stuff,
- 21:50Speaker 6: and guys that have kids.
- 21:53Speaker 4: So I really enjoyed playing for him so far.
- 21:56Speaker 3: How do you find? You know, I go back to
- 21:58Speaker 3: when you started in Lake Erie. You you know you're coming
- 22:00Speaker 3: too the league. In the HL, you win the Calder Cup. Like,
- 22:04Speaker 3: how great of a season was that? Because when I started,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I was so grateful to have a year in the AHL,
- 22:10Speaker 3: because I found I learned so much more than in
- 22:12Speaker 3: Find I'd just been as a young pup in the NHL.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 22:17Speaker 6: I feel like I feel like people, especially young guys nowadays,
- 22:21Speaker 6: I kind of get that thought of burning a year
- 22:23Speaker 6: or playing one game at the end of the season
- 22:25Speaker 6: and then you know, getting.
- 22:26Speaker 4: That year aventry level gone.
- 22:28Speaker 6: But if it was up to me, I would tell
- 22:31Speaker 6: everyone to go to the American League, and especially college
- 22:33Speaker 6: guys at the end of their seasons, go to the
- 22:35Speaker 6: American League, go on a playoff run and understand what
- 22:37Speaker 6: it's like to be in the grind of it.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Play a three and three, right, you don't have those
- 22:41Speaker 4: in the NHL.
- 22:42Speaker 6: But you understand the grind of it and the bus
- 22:44Speaker 6: and you place, you know, I think for me, it
- 22:47Speaker 6: was a seven o'clock game in Rochester, seven o'clock game
- 22:49Speaker 6: in Toronto, and then at three o'clock game.
- 22:51Speaker 4: In Lake Eurie or in Cleveland, so awful.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Yeah, it's tough, right, So you kind of understand the
- 22:56Speaker 6: grind of it, You understand kind of the ranks of it.
- 22:59Speaker 6: You know, you're being a young guy. There's guys that
- 23:01Speaker 6: are thirty five years old and pros with kids and
- 23:06Speaker 6: living on your own and all that stuff. So I
- 23:08Speaker 6: can't say enough good things about my experience in Cleveland
- 23:11Speaker 6: and especially winning too.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Right. I was with those guys for two.
- 23:13Speaker 6: And a half ones and some of those guys are
- 23:15Speaker 6: still great friends of mine that I talked to all
- 23:17Speaker 6: the time, and it's great seeing them in rinks or
- 23:20Speaker 6: wherever it may be. And yeah, it was up to me,
- 23:23Speaker 6: I'd recommend everyone to kind of go that route.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So the usn T DP, this team, Zach is Insane,
- 23:30Speaker 1: Jack Eichel, Alex Tuck, Dylan Larkin, Austin Matthews, Charlie McAvoy,
- 23:35Speaker 1: Matthew could Chuck, Noah Hannavan, Jack Rosslovic. I mean, Sonny Milano,
- 23:39Speaker 1: Christian Fisher, Jordan Greenaway. How dominant was that team and
- 23:43Speaker 1: now seeing this journey of all those guys.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Yeah, so it's kind of split half. Those guys were
- 23:48Speaker 6: you eighteens when we were you seventeens. But yeah, you
- 23:51Speaker 6: get called up and you all play together a few
- 23:53Speaker 6: games and whatnot, and yeah, it's pretty incredible if you
- 23:57Speaker 6: look back on it. Obviously, when you're there, you're not
- 23:59Speaker 6: really too sure what to expect or how guy's careers
- 24:01Speaker 6: are going to pan out. I remember Austin matthew Is
- 24:04Speaker 6: at the forty camp before our first year. Everyone's like,
- 24:07Speaker 6: who's this kid from Arizona, Like, no one's heard of him.
- 24:10Speaker 6: He's scoring every game, scoring every shootout, and here he
- 24:14Speaker 6: is one of the greatest goal scorers in the game.
- 24:15Speaker 6: So it's been fun to see. It's been you know,
- 24:19Speaker 6: especially this Four Nations coming up after that kind of
- 24:21Speaker 6: every wen on the USA team and it's been ten
- 24:24Speaker 6: years ago, we played together, twelve years ago, whatever.
- 24:26Speaker 4: It is so.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Definitely crazy when you look back on it, and CSCO
- 24:30Speaker 6: those teams were. But yeah, no, I'm really looking forward
- 24:33Speaker 6: to the Four Nations and getting with those guys again, you.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Know, going to Four Nations and and you're going to
- 24:38Speaker 3: be in Montreal and Boston. But you know, who's the
- 24:40Speaker 3: guy out of that list that you're really excited to
- 24:42Speaker 3: play with? And then who's the guy that you know
- 24:45Speaker 3: you're looking to play against, you know in this format
- 24:47Speaker 3: you know, country on country.
- 24:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I think for me, I think Austin's a big
- 24:54Speaker 6: one that I'd like to play with, you know right now,
- 24:58Speaker 6: Jack eich Old, the Hughes Brothers, Chuck Brothers. I just
- 25:01Speaker 6: think you go down the list and you can find
- 25:03Speaker 6: you can find a reasons you want to play with everybody,
- 25:05Speaker 6: right or stories about you want to play with everybody.
- 25:08Speaker 6: And I think that's the exciting part about it for us,
- 25:11Speaker 6: says everyone so close and kind of just getting everyone
- 25:13Speaker 6: back together again is going to be awesome. And then
- 25:16Speaker 6: in terms of guys I want to play against, I mean,
- 25:19Speaker 6: I think it's hard to not say Canada, right, and
- 25:22Speaker 6: Sidney Crosby and McDavid and McKinnon. I'm anxious to see
- 25:25Speaker 6: how their lineup ships out because there's so many good players, right,
- 25:29Speaker 6: and I think that's just gonna be awesome at the
- 25:31Speaker 6: Bell Center on a Saturday night lining up against Sid
- 25:34Speaker 6: and like I said, McKinnon and McDavid and mccarr and
- 25:37Speaker 6: and all these superstars in the league. It's it's going
- 25:39Speaker 6: to be exciting. It's going to be a challenge, but
- 25:41Speaker 6: that's that's why you play the game, right, So I'm
- 25:43Speaker 6: excited for it.
- 25:44Speaker 3: You know, you've you've you kind of went on a
- 25:47Speaker 3: huge euro trip with Lark and so I'm sure you're
- 25:50Speaker 3: excited to play with Dylan Larkin. But like, tell me
- 25:52Speaker 3: about that trip and any other trips kind of planning.
- 25:55Speaker 3: I know this one kind of screws up your a
- 25:58Speaker 3: Cabo trip or something. But how was that hero trip
- 26:00Speaker 3: and where'd you go?
- 26:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that was awesome.
- 26:03Speaker 6: We started off with Dylan's bachelor party actually, so we
- 26:07Speaker 6: flew into London and then took the train to Manchester.
- 26:11Speaker 6: We saw Cold Play in Manchester on Thursday night and
- 26:14Speaker 6: then took the train back to London on Friday. Friday
- 26:18Speaker 6: just kind of had a guy's day, bounced around pubs
- 26:21Speaker 6: and bars, grabbed dinner, and then Saturday we went to
- 26:24Speaker 6: the f A Cup Final, which was man City versus
- 26:26Speaker 6: man U at Wembley, which was an insane weekend right
- 26:31Speaker 6: for a bachelor party.
- 26:32Speaker 4: It was awesome, so hats off to him for thinking
- 26:34Speaker 4: of that.
- 26:34Speaker 6: But and then on Sunday we just chilled, some guys
- 26:38Speaker 6: left and then Monday me and him flew to the
- 26:40Speaker 6: south of France where my fiance and his wife met us.
- 26:43Speaker 4: And spent ten days there.
- 26:46Speaker 6: And then we went to Paris for a night and
- 26:49Speaker 6: we stayed actually for one more day to see the
- 26:51Speaker 6: French Open final.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Djokovic was in it, so like I had to see that. Yeah,
- 26:56Speaker 4: it was a crazy trip, right, like no, like to
- 26:59Speaker 4: like the two best weeks in my life.
- 27:01Speaker 6: So yeah, the hats off to him because it wouldn't
- 27:04Speaker 6: happen about him him setting up that bachelor party, so
- 27:06Speaker 6: it was it was pretty cool.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I got to hear more just as a sports fan.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm not a huge soccer but I just imagine Man City,
- 27:13Speaker 1: Man you at Wembley, I mean, how do you compare
- 27:15Speaker 1: to that?
- 27:15Speaker 2: To North American sports?
- 27:18Speaker 4: I don't even know, to be honest.
- 27:19Speaker 6: It was like I wasn't a huge soccer fan, and
- 27:22Speaker 6: now I'm hooked after going to that game. Like I
- 27:24Speaker 6: love the Premier League now, I love when it's on TV.
- 27:28Speaker 6: I love Bondesliga, I love all the leagues, Like I
- 27:30Speaker 6: try and watch as much as I can now just
- 27:32Speaker 6: to see how crazy those fans are, see the atmosphere
- 27:35Speaker 6: of the game. And then I watched the documentary on Netflix,
- 27:39Speaker 6: the Treble documentary or it's called Trouble Winners on Man City,
- 27:44Speaker 6: and those guys are so similar to us in a sense, right,
- 27:46Speaker 6: how they interact and how they're in the locker room
- 27:48Speaker 6: and how many games I play. So I just find
- 27:51Speaker 6: it fascinating now. And in terms of comparing it to
- 27:55Speaker 6: you know, North American sports, it's I don't even know
- 27:58Speaker 6: what you compare to crazy college football game.
- 28:00Speaker 4: I guess I don't know. Probably that on steroids, but it.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Was I have to ask you because it's just a
- 28:07Speaker 3: quick you know. I shout on the Toronto Maple Leafs
- 28:10Speaker 3: Lower Bowl and I was kind of saying, I feel
- 28:12Speaker 3: like the NHL should eventually get to like a small
- 28:14Speaker 3: section that's whether it's student section or just rabid fans,
- 28:19Speaker 3: kind of like they do in soccer. I don't know
- 28:20Speaker 3: how you think that would fare in the NHL and
- 28:23Speaker 3: in North America.
- 28:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think you're spot on right. Like
- 28:29Speaker 6: I love playing in Toronto. It's the biggest market in hockey,
- 28:31Speaker 6: but it is it is pretty quiet for the most part,
- 28:34Speaker 6: and a lot of that that is the prices of
- 28:36Speaker 6: the tickets, and I feel like it's takes the fun out.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Of it a little bit.
- 28:40Speaker 6: I think the Clippers, if I'm not mistaken they're one side,
- 28:43Speaker 6: is they wanted to make it like a student section.
- 28:45Speaker 6: So yeah, I think that's a great idea. I think
- 28:48Speaker 6: more sports league should do that. I think they should
- 28:51Speaker 6: have more chances during the games and get people more
- 28:54Speaker 6: into it. And yeah, I mean, you go to these
- 28:57Speaker 6: soccer games and these college football games and atmosphere is insane,
- 28:59Speaker 6: and then you go to Maple Leafs game and it's
- 29:02Speaker 6: it's just different. You know, It's it should be like
- 29:04Speaker 6: that everywhere, But I guess I don't know how you
- 29:06Speaker 6: do that. Sides make tickets cheaper and they won't do that.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Also true, Yeah, I work on Amazon Prime.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I've had a blast and there's been rumors with the
- 29:16Speaker 1: fact that Amazon cameras have been following you around. Any
- 29:19Speaker 1: truth to the fact we can see you on Face
- 29:21Speaker 1: Off season two.
- 29:22Speaker 6: Uh yeah, yeah, I don't know if I'm supposed to
- 29:24Speaker 6: say that or not, But it's not just me it's
- 29:26Speaker 6: it's our team in Columbus here and they're doing a
- 29:28Speaker 6: little thing on John, and yeah, it's gonna be a
- 29:32Speaker 6: it's gonna be great just to kind of get an
- 29:33Speaker 6: ancy look on how we live here in New Albany
- 29:35Speaker 6: and Meredith and the kids and just kind of what
- 29:39Speaker 6: everyone's gone through here. So yeah, excited to show the
- 29:41Speaker 6: hockey hockey world, but what we're doing here in Columbus.
- 29:45Speaker 3: How was that experience personally for you with just having
- 29:48Speaker 3: the cameras around, especially you know, during those times and
- 29:51Speaker 3: those tough times.
- 29:53Speaker 6: Yeah, well they weren't there right at the start of
- 29:55Speaker 6: the year. They've come around more recently, so I guess
- 30:00Speaker 6: we've kind of had time to get, you know, acclimated
- 30:02Speaker 6: to it a little bit.
- 30:03Speaker 4: But definitely different.
- 30:06Speaker 6: I mean, I'm not used to having the full camera
- 30:08Speaker 6: crew around me, so I'm kind of a shy guy,
- 30:11Speaker 6: so it's definitely not in my comfort zone. But I
- 30:15Speaker 6: think it's just great what they're doing in this episode
- 30:18Speaker 6: on John and just kind of celebrate his life and
- 30:21Speaker 6: how much he means to everyone around here. And and yeah, no,
- 30:25Speaker 6: I mean it's it's gonna be awesome. So I'm excited
- 30:27Speaker 6: to see what they come up with in terms of
- 30:29Speaker 6: one episode of it.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Well, on the lighter side of things again, as Jason
- 30:33Speaker 1: and I said, we both think you're firmly in the
- 30:35Speaker 1: conversation for some hardware. Speaking of hardware, the Grammy Awards
- 30:38Speaker 1: has happened, and the Oscars are a few weeks away.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Your choice, you can the talk about a movie you've
- 30:42Speaker 1: seen which is up for some Oscars, or if you
- 30:44Speaker 1: had a chance to watch you the Grammy Awards.
- 30:48Speaker 6: I didn't get to watch any of the Grammys. Maybe
- 30:51Speaker 6: I'll watch the Oscars. I don't know. You're pretty busy
- 30:53Speaker 6: at nighttime or watching sports or whatever. But it's really
- 30:57Speaker 6: not my cup of tea, I guess. But I saw
- 31:00Speaker 6: some of the outfits from from the Grammy's are pretty crazy.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Or the yeah you creep.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, I think we all are.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, I mean I listen. I looked at
- 31:14Speaker 3: it a couple of times and said, Jesus, yeah, there's
- 31:18Speaker 3: a different angle. Yeah it's it's they're all a mess
- 31:21Speaker 3: out there, completely mess. But I wanted to ask a
- 31:25Speaker 3: little bit, you know, going back to the start of
- 31:27Speaker 3: your career in Columbus, and you know, obviously I'm sure
- 31:30Speaker 3: You've had to tell a million Tortorella stories, but I
- 31:33Speaker 3: just wanted to ask more on the note of like,
- 31:36Speaker 3: what's one thing that you you kind of learned from
- 31:38Speaker 3: Torts that you're like, not many people know about him,
- 31:41Speaker 3: that that's why he's had such a long career as
- 31:43Speaker 3: a coach in the NHL.
- 31:46Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think the thing with Torts and
- 31:48Speaker 6: it definitely gets mixed up in the media a little bit,
- 31:52Speaker 6: it's just how good of a person he is.
- 31:54Speaker 4: I don't think people understand that.
- 31:58Speaker 6: If you talk about a family guy or a guy
- 31:59Speaker 6: that wants you to be around your your family, like
- 32:01Speaker 6: he's he's the one. He gives you so many days
- 32:04Speaker 6: off just.
- 32:04Speaker 4: To be home with.
- 32:06Speaker 6: You know, your your wife and your kids and whoever's there.
- 32:09Speaker 6: And my first year in the league. Actually this is
- 32:15Speaker 6: not a sad story, but it kind of said, but
- 32:17Speaker 6: my first year in the league, we were I think
- 32:19Speaker 6: five days away from playing my first game at home
- 32:21Speaker 6: in Detroit at Joe Louis, my grandfather passed away, and
- 32:24Speaker 6: I told towards that and he's like, go home. I
- 32:26Speaker 6: go home and skate by yourself, Like we don't want
- 32:29Speaker 6: to see you be around your family. So for like
- 32:31Speaker 6: five days, he just gave me my year, didn't didn't
- 32:35Speaker 6: He called and checked in on me, but didn't really care.
- 32:36Speaker 4: He just trusted me, let me go home. I was
- 32:38Speaker 4: skating alone.
- 32:39Speaker 6: And then the first game at Joe Louis, he starts me,
- 32:42Speaker 6: you know, opening and I haven't practiced with the team
- 32:44Speaker 6: at all, And I just think that goes a long way, right,
- 32:47Speaker 6: Like he could have been he could have been like, hey,
- 32:49Speaker 6: once we land, you can go home for a few
- 32:50Speaker 6: hours or go home for the night.
- 32:51Speaker 4: But he was like, no, get out of here, like
- 32:53Speaker 4: you don't need to be here.
- 32:54Speaker 6: And that always leuck with me my first year, I
- 32:56Speaker 6: think I was two three months in a manhl career
- 32:58Speaker 6: and that was a moment for me where I just
- 33:02Speaker 6: had a lot of respect for him and that always
- 33:04Speaker 6: with me. And I feel like people don't see that
- 33:05Speaker 6: side of him.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Yeah he doesn't. He doesn't get enough of it. And
- 33:09Speaker 3: you know, everybody kind of tells the funny stories but
- 33:12Speaker 3: never like what he's kind of how he's impacted guys.
- 33:14Speaker 3: But you know, I wanted to, you know, finally touch
- 33:17Speaker 3: on I know we touched on Johnny a little bit,
- 33:19Speaker 3: and you know, I've interviewed Adam Fantilly and then I've
- 33:21Speaker 3: also interviewed man Giapane, and you know, we kind of
- 33:25Speaker 3: asked just about at the end of the interview, like, hey, listen,
- 33:29Speaker 3: you know, Johnny's gone but not forgotten, and we just
- 33:32Speaker 3: want to know more of like a lighthearted, like a
- 33:33Speaker 3: funny story that would give a little bit of insight
- 33:35Speaker 3: into Johnny and a cool memory that you have that
- 33:38Speaker 3: you've taken with you, you know, being around him a
- 33:40Speaker 3: little bit.
- 33:42Speaker 6: Yeah, I know there's so many good stories. Only play
- 33:44Speaker 6: with him for two years, and I think I've played
- 33:46Speaker 6: with him my whole career, from sitting across from him
- 33:49Speaker 6: at the card table on the plane calling everyone a donkey,
- 33:53Speaker 6: and you know what, like my first year, he actually
- 33:57Speaker 6: used to drive me nuts because he would be the
- 33:59Speaker 6: last guy to show up to the rink and the
- 34:00Speaker 6: first guy to leave. And I was always like, like,
- 34:04Speaker 6: why is he doing this? And it was just because
- 34:08Speaker 6: he wanted to get home to his wife and kids.
- 34:10Speaker 6: And I think I've learned so much from that where
- 34:13Speaker 6: now like I don't go to the rink longer than
- 34:15Speaker 6: I have to be at the rink, and I feel
- 34:17Speaker 6: like more people should kind of take advantage of that.
- 34:21Speaker 6: Like there was times I'd sit at the rink and
- 34:23Speaker 6: be like, oh, I'm a pro, I'm just sitting here.
- 34:25Speaker 6: I'm at the rink for four hours, but I'm not
- 34:26Speaker 6: getting anything done. Yeah, And I think what I've learned
- 34:29Speaker 6: the most from John is like, go to the rank
- 34:32Speaker 6: and enjoy it. Be there for an hour or two
- 34:33Speaker 6: hours and do your stuff and get what you need
- 34:36Speaker 6: to get and then get out of there, get home
- 34:38Speaker 6: and be around the ones that you love. And yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 6: I've learned. I think that's what I've learned the most
- 34:43Speaker 6: from him in that short amount of time. And honestly,
- 34:46Speaker 6: I think it's a big reason why I'm having success
- 34:48Speaker 6: this year too, is I'm not just spending hours at
- 34:50Speaker 6: the rink for no reason and thinking about hockey all
- 34:52Speaker 6: the time.
- 34:53Speaker 4: And so yeah.
- 34:55Speaker 6: No, I mean, he's he's awesome and we miss him,
- 34:57Speaker 6: but yeah he's gone.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Never forgotten. Love sharing stories on him and talking with
- 35:01Speaker 4: the guys about him.
- 35:03Speaker 3: That's such a cool story.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I love that. That's awesome.
- 35:04Speaker 1: It works smarter, not harder, necessarily more efficiently, and obviously
- 35:08Speaker 1: family first.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Zacharnci's having a tremendous season.
- 35:10Speaker 1: The Columbus Blue Jackets, and as you can see, he's
- 35:12Speaker 1: a thoughtful guy at a great dude Athias as well,
- 35:14Speaker 1: Zachar pulling for you man, not only for you, but
- 35:16Speaker 1: also the Columbus Blue Jackets.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Keep it rolling. Thank you so much for your generosity today.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I appreciate it. Guys, thank you.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Swaggy p is coming up home and Tarily you know
- 35:31Speaker 1: whim you love him obviously, all those great stunts and
- 35:33Speaker 1: great stories behind the scenes, old friend of JD's. But
- 35:35Speaker 1: now we'll do a little bit of Cinophile and sixty.
- 35:37Speaker 1: A quick thought on Carlos Sophia Gasco if you who
- 35:40Speaker 1: is that. She made history as the first trans nominee,
- 35:42Speaker 1: and now he's lit herself on fire with this controversy
- 35:45Speaker 1: which is going on. I have never seen a person
- 35:47Speaker 1: get nominated for an Oscar and then the campaign just
- 35:50Speaker 1: completely blows up. They found her tweets in the past
- 35:53Speaker 1: in which she said Islam should be banned as a religion.
- 35:55Speaker 1: She had some shots at George Floyd, lots more stuff,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and now Amelia Price, which had thirteen nominations which we
- 36:01Speaker 1: denigrated a year ago. If they could rescind the nomination
- 36:04Speaker 1: to her, they would, I mean Jacquo de Here, the director.
- 36:06Speaker 2: They asked, have you spoken to her? He's like, no,
- 36:08Speaker 2: I haven't. I don't have anything to say about it,
- 36:10Speaker 2: and I don't like her.
- 36:11Speaker 1: No, they asked Zoe Seldona, who's the favorite twin sporting
- 36:13Speaker 1: actress Oscars? Because I don't want to speak about it.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I distanced myself from those comments. Selena Goma is like, nope,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I have nothing to say about that. No, They've they've
- 36:20Speaker 1: changed the rules for this year's Oscars. They only do
- 36:22Speaker 1: a fab five to get previous winners get out there.
- 36:24Speaker 1: They go, No, nobody wants to talk to this chick.
- 36:27Speaker 1: She went from like I was a man, I'm now
- 36:29Speaker 1: a woman, I'm a trendsitder like no, no, actually you're
- 36:31Speaker 1: a biggot. Nobody likes you. And it's it's literally single
- 36:34Speaker 1: handily killing Amelia Presze's chances.
- 36:36Speaker 2: It's unreal. I've never see anything like it.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Is It isn't Selena Gomez didn't she take down and
- 36:42Speaker 3: tweet as well. She's crying something. They're having a tough
- 36:45Speaker 3: go present and it's a weird movie again, ball don't lie, all.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Right, and now we get some all they're waiting for.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I had to I had to push JD and Tale
- 36:54Speaker 1: to watch the Substance, which is just gonzo filmmaking.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Coralie Fargiets a director.
- 37:00Speaker 1: It stars to Me Moore, it stars Margaret Qually, and
- 37:03Speaker 1: it's a film about the way females are viewed in
- 37:05Speaker 1: the industry, the way they're misrepresented or represented that the
- 37:08Speaker 1: shaving they have to go through, all these kind of attributes,
- 37:11Speaker 1: and you think you've kind of seen a film like
- 37:12Speaker 1: this before, and then it gets to the file thirty
- 37:14Speaker 1: minutes if you've never seen a movie like this before
- 37:16Speaker 1: without further ado. I want JD's reaction, I want towels
- 37:20Speaker 1: and I cannot wait for either.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Jason, the floor is yours.
- 37:24Speaker 3: It was thirty minutes too long to maybe an hour again,
- 37:28Speaker 3: like we could have got there quicker, I listen. I
- 37:31Speaker 3: actually again, you know a lot of gratuitousness. But acting
- 37:35Speaker 3: was good. It was a good premise. I enjoyed it
- 37:37Speaker 3: at the start about you know, you know trading you
- 37:41Speaker 3: are one, This is you know, it's this is part
- 37:44Speaker 3: of you. This beauty is within you, and don't let
- 37:46Speaker 3: it corrupt to you. This the beauty, you know, you
- 37:49Speaker 3: can go as deep as you want with it. Or
- 37:51Speaker 3: is That's what I like about it is you can
- 37:53Speaker 3: really think about it deeply or just be like, you know,
- 37:54Speaker 3: it's a good, exciting movie. I like the premise. I
- 37:57Speaker 3: thought it was really cool about the links at which
- 38:00Speaker 3: women go to keep their beauty be successful, and it's
- 38:04Speaker 3: a very tough cut through an industry and even within yourself.
- 38:08Speaker 3: So I just thought like, I was very impressed by that.
- 38:10Speaker 3: I like the acting. It just went off the rails
- 38:13Speaker 3: for me a little bit when they have like the
- 38:15Speaker 3: fight scene in the in the house and in her apartment,
- 38:18Speaker 3: and it's it was just tough, and it was I
- 38:23Speaker 3: did not sleep for two days because I'm sitting there
- 38:26Speaker 3: looking at my wife and I'm like, this gory has movie.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I just watched it.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and nomine for it was nominy for Best Picture,
- 38:36Speaker 3: and I'm just.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Picture director screaming. Movies like this don't normally get Best
- 38:40Speaker 2: Picture nominations.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Oh that scene of her just like sticking the needle
- 38:44Speaker 3: in her back over and over again, I was like, please,
- 38:46Speaker 3: no more. I get it. I get it. You're extending
- 38:50Speaker 3: the hour because she's an old hag and you're you're again.
- 38:54Speaker 3: But you know the Dennis Quaid was loved him. Those
- 38:58Speaker 3: are one of those.
- 38:59Speaker 2: You know, he hammled it up. He's having a blast.
- 39:01Speaker 3: He does play a similar character in a lot of movies.
- 39:05Speaker 3: This was like Range. You know talmentioned elast, this was Range,
- 39:08Speaker 3: and I thought he was incredible. He was so gross, yes,
- 39:11Speaker 3: I mean douche back. Yeah, like just so douchey. And
- 39:17Speaker 3: you're just like, this is so good. Like it's just
- 39:20Speaker 3: you know, at least somebody in your life that's kind
- 39:22Speaker 3: of like this, like not like that's extreme that the
- 39:25Speaker 3: whole movie is about extremes and he is that extreme,
- 39:29Speaker 3: but like, you know somebody in your life that is
- 39:31Speaker 3: a little bit disgusting like that where you're just like, oh,
- 39:34Speaker 3: you sicken me. But yeah, I listen thirty minutes too
- 39:37Speaker 3: long like most movies nowadays, maybe an hour too long,
- 39:40Speaker 3: but you know, I enjoyed it. It's fucking wild.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Though, it absolutely and you're right about that. And that's
- 39:45Speaker 1: a key tow. When you see the blurb for it,
- 39:48Speaker 1: you know this is the thing people go, well, the
- 39:49Speaker 1: critics still matter. The amount people have told me the
- 39:51Speaker 1: go I watched the week just because the blurb on
- 39:53Speaker 1: it says absolutely fucking insane, So like what what is
- 39:56Speaker 1: this movie like?
- 39:57Speaker 2: This is just already intrigued by it.
- 39:58Speaker 1: This was before I can all the Oscar buzz and
- 40:00Speaker 1: not to be more, might even be the favorite Twitter
- 40:02Speaker 1: Academy Award tal your thoughts.
- 40:03Speaker 2: In way, it sounds like he said he likes the movie.
- 40:05Speaker 2: It's good.
- 40:06Speaker 1: I got what's going for, but too much at the end.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Do you like the audacity or is it too much
- 40:10Speaker 1: for you?
- 40:11Speaker 7: I mean, that's clearly what the filmmaker is going for here, right.
- 40:15Speaker 7: The objective of this film is to make people feel uncomfortable, and.
- 40:19Speaker 2: It hits it out of the park.
- 40:20Speaker 7: Dude, Yes, you know, the filmmaker is clearly very talented.
- 40:25Speaker 7: And I was just mentioning clearly very influenced by like
- 40:28Speaker 7: Cronenberg and David Lynch and these kinds of filmmakers. And
- 40:32Speaker 7: I would not recommend watching it right before bedtime like
- 40:35Speaker 7: I did, because this is same two and a half
- 40:39Speaker 7: hours of pure uncut nightmare fuel.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Man.
- 40:43Speaker 7: This it was hard going to sleep after watching this.
- 40:45Speaker 7: Very inspired. I love the whole premise about beauty and aging.
- 40:50Speaker 7: And to me more, I say, Cander the Oscar right now?
- 40:53Speaker 2: You loved her?
- 40:54Speaker 3: Okay?
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, what I mean?
- 40:55Speaker 7: I know I was talking about Mikey Madison.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm team Mikey Madison. You're going to be more
- 41:00Speaker 1: dots to do.
- 41:02Speaker 7: Yeah, the stuff she had to do, her back deserves
- 41:05Speaker 7: an aues oh, just for all the torture that her
- 41:08Speaker 7: back goes through in this film. I mean, it's it's
- 41:11Speaker 7: a little stomach churning some of it. But that's the idea,
- 41:15Speaker 7: it's that's the whole point of the film.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:17Speaker 1: My wife says it's her favorite movie the year. My
- 41:20Speaker 1: sister last saw it three times. It's your point, tell,
- 41:22Speaker 1: I kind of said what Jade. I heard more than
- 41:24Speaker 1: few people say, hey, I liked it just the last
- 41:26Speaker 1: thirty minutes or too much.
- 41:27Speaker 2: And their response is, but that's the point, Like you want.
- 41:30Speaker 1: To be Your face is thrown right at it, right
- 41:32Speaker 1: you look out. Grotesta says, everyone's got blow of the hands.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Look at what you've all done with this person. Like
- 41:37Speaker 1: you're never gonna walk on the substance to go. I'm
- 41:38Speaker 1: not sure what that movie was about, Like, no, you'll
- 41:40Speaker 1: remember this movie another fantastic As You're an NHL unscripted
- 41:51Speaker 1: episode ten. Peter Leonnis played collegiately for the University of
- 41:54Speaker 1: Vermont Catamiults. We're playing pro in North America and Austria.
- 41:58Speaker 1: He's now known primarily for the incredible hockey stunts he
- 42:01Speaker 1: has posted online. You know you love him. He is
- 42:03Speaker 1: Swaggy P Swaggy Pe. Welcome to Unscripted.
- 42:06Speaker 8: I appreciate that. I was gonna say, you can just
- 42:08Speaker 8: leave my name out of it.
- 42:09Speaker 5: I've been introduced a couple of times like that and
- 42:12Speaker 5: someone's there, it's just like that, no one knows that
- 42:14Speaker 5: my real name. So I was just like, yeah, it's
- 42:18Speaker 5: it's swaggy by now. But yeah, I appreciate it, and
- 42:21Speaker 5: it's always good to see JD. I've been following this
- 42:24Speaker 5: stuff for a bit now, I've known him for a while,
- 42:26Speaker 5: so I'm uh, I always get a kick out of it.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Just take us through a little bit, Swaggy P, Pete Lennis.
- 42:32Speaker 3: We use government names here. Yeah, take us through just
- 42:34Speaker 3: like your your hockey career, Like you know, you played
- 42:37Speaker 3: a Vermont, you ended up playing some East Coast, some
- 42:40Speaker 3: HL you bounce around, then you ended up in Europe
- 42:43Speaker 3: and you know you gave up. You had a long career,
- 42:46Speaker 3: like in terms of professional career, So just take us
- 42:49Speaker 3: through it.
- 42:50Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, I think for myself and just like
- 42:52Speaker 8: how it goes into what I do now is like
- 42:55Speaker 8: I just love hockey like that, like that is my passion.
- 42:59Speaker 5: It's something like I could spend hours, you know, on
- 43:02Speaker 5: the ice and I always have, so you know, I
- 43:05Speaker 5: always wanted.
- 43:05Speaker 8: To play and.
- 43:07Speaker 5: Going over and I think I think I said it
- 43:09Speaker 5: on a podcast or the other week. The only thing
- 43:12Speaker 5: I think I regret about my career is not trying
- 43:15Speaker 5: to stay in.
- 43:16Speaker 8: North America longer.
- 43:17Speaker 5: You know, like you always have Europe and you're like, oh,
- 43:19Speaker 5: it's tax free money or da da dah, like I
- 43:21Speaker 5: can go.
- 43:22Speaker 8: And then it's just like kind of like the East
- 43:24Speaker 8: Coast grind.
- 43:25Speaker 5: And you know, I didn't play much in the American League,
- 43:27Speaker 5: but it's like it's when you look back at it,
- 43:30Speaker 5: it's it's there's a lot of good times and memories
- 43:33Speaker 5: and it's just like that grind is kind of like
- 43:35Speaker 5: something I wish I could go through again, just because
- 43:38Speaker 5: those long bus trips and the you know, eating terrible
- 43:42Speaker 5: food after games.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Sometimes it's just it's.
- 43:44Speaker 8: Just but it is.
- 43:45Speaker 5: But then you go to Europe and it's like cushiony
- 43:47Speaker 5: and you're like, oh, this is but there's so much
- 43:49Speaker 5: free time that you just don't know what to do.
- 43:52Speaker 5: And you know, I know we'll go into the business later,
- 43:55Speaker 5: but just to like have that time back on the
- 43:58Speaker 5: ice to like work on actually things that are hockey
- 44:02Speaker 5: specific and like relatable to the game. I think there's
- 44:06Speaker 5: there's just so much time that you know, I love
- 44:08Speaker 5: being on the ice, but was just wasted.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Well we'll talk about that, because you know, I could
- 44:14Speaker 3: put you on the ice with probably I could comfortably
- 44:18Speaker 3: say seventy percent of the NHL players in the league,
- 44:21Speaker 3: and kids would gravitate towards you before because they would
- 44:24Speaker 3: recognize you. Like, how does it make you feel like
- 44:26Speaker 3: because you're helping kids, you're teaching kids. It's not only
- 44:29Speaker 3: this the skills and the tricks and stuff, Like you're
- 44:32Speaker 3: teaching kids skill work, how to play the game. Like,
- 44:35Speaker 3: how does it make you feel that you know, you
- 44:38Speaker 3: are more recognizable now post career and are impacting the
- 44:42Speaker 3: game in your own way.
- 44:44Speaker 8: I mean, I think it has a couple of different
- 44:46Speaker 8: answers to that.
- 44:47Speaker 5: Like the first one is is like I was a
- 44:48Speaker 5: rink rat, right, so like I always was, you know,
- 44:52Speaker 5: going to the UVM games when I was a kid,
- 44:54Speaker 5: and like, you know, I remember, like I obviously I
- 44:57Speaker 5: understand it more now, but like I asked for like
- 45:00Speaker 5: Ron Hextell's autograph and like he was just like no,
- 45:03Speaker 5: And I like that that hurt me, you know what
- 45:06Speaker 5: I mean. But when these kids like come up now,
- 45:10Speaker 5: it's like, man, like you don't understand, like you always
- 45:12Speaker 5: have time for them because like without those kids like
- 45:15Speaker 5: watching or wanting to learn from you, there is no audience, right,
- 45:20Speaker 5: so those kids are what makes the business. And then
- 45:24Speaker 5: it's just like it's super cool to to have an
- 45:28Speaker 5: impact on that. And I think it goes to you know,
- 45:31Speaker 5: like I've known JD and stuff, and like if JD
- 45:34Speaker 5: text me and was just like hey, man, like this
- 45:36Speaker 5: this is horrid, like shut shut it down, like you.
- 45:39Speaker 8: Know what I mean, Like these videos are painful.
- 45:41Speaker 5: I think that'd be really tough, you know, Like but
- 45:44Speaker 5: but the some of the NHL guys like reach out
- 45:46Speaker 5: and they're like, hey, like what curve do you use?
- 45:49Speaker 8: You know, what what are you doing for this?
- 45:51Speaker 5: And just to have that support I think was a
- 45:54Speaker 5: big turning point to be like okay, like I'm gonna
- 45:56Speaker 5: keep pushing this harder rather than if like the top
- 46:00Speaker 5: down was like hey, like this this dude, this.
- 46:02Speaker 8: This stuff is uh tough to watch. I'd be like, oh,
- 46:06Speaker 8: I don't know if I can keep doing this.
- 46:08Speaker 5: So I think it was just the support all around
- 46:11Speaker 5: of being like okay, like people are finding this helpful,
- 46:16Speaker 5: and I think that's what I enjoy the most.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Who who is one of the guys that reached out
- 46:21Speaker 3: to asking you about your curve? Like like when was
- 46:24Speaker 3: what was the one guy that reached out to?
- 46:26Speaker 5: Derek reached out, jack Igo reached out. He's like, hey,
- 46:33Speaker 5: if you're gonna be in Boston, like let's hop on
- 46:35Speaker 5: the ice.
- 46:35Speaker 8: That was pretty cool.
- 46:36Speaker 3: You worked with him too, which is why.
- 46:38Speaker 5: Yeah, we were like kind of messing around and stuff,
- 46:40Speaker 5: and and he's got a frenchie too, so we were
- 46:43Speaker 5: just like I keep in touch with him and just
- 46:46Speaker 5: a super nice guy and just all the you know
- 46:48Speaker 5: pros I've met through Bauer has been super cool. Like
- 46:52Speaker 5: everyone's been awesome, like you know Beneers this summer and stuff.
- 46:56Speaker 5: Then met Coffield and like you realize that these kids
- 47:01Speaker 5: coming up just love it just as.
- 47:02Speaker 8: Much as you do.
- 47:03Speaker 5: And I think that's the big thing where it's like
- 47:07Speaker 5: they're they're infected with hockey. So like they were like,
- 47:10Speaker 5: oh man, like what are you doing out there?
- 47:11Speaker 1: And like, yes, talk with Swaggy Pee. You've got some
- 47:14Speaker 1: great locations to shoot some of these videos. What was
- 47:17Speaker 1: a personal favorite, Like.
- 47:18Speaker 5: I mean, we did the first ever ice hockey camp
- 47:20Speaker 5: in Brazil. Wow, and the ice was melty. There was
- 47:25Speaker 5: a tropical storm and the ice was literally like an
- 47:27Speaker 5: inch and a half of water in some places. And
- 47:30Speaker 5: they were like, they're like, we're running it. I was
- 47:32Speaker 5: like running, We're actually running this camp right now. It's
- 47:35Speaker 5: like I was like, all right, if you guys want
- 47:37Speaker 5: to do it, like, let's do it. But this is
- 47:39Speaker 5: like this is weird, you know, but that was really cool.
- 47:43Speaker 5: So my three favorite shoots for sure.
- 47:45Speaker 3: The first one.
- 47:48Speaker 5: Was Huntington Beach was Ziegres. That's my number one. That
- 47:51Speaker 5: was my first bower shoe. It was we put synthetic
- 47:55Speaker 5: ice on the big school parking lot. He was just
- 48:00Speaker 5: breaking into the league. Super skilled guy, such a great guy.
- 48:05Speaker 5: So that will probably always be my number one.
- 48:08Speaker 8: Shoot. Number two was pretty cool.
- 48:11Speaker 5: I flew out to Alaska for eighteen hours to do
- 48:14Speaker 5: a Filson shoot and we landed in Anchorage the next day.
- 48:19Speaker 5: We took one of those like puddle jumpers prop planes,
- 48:22Speaker 5: like an hour and a half to this lake. The
- 48:25Speaker 5: ice was horrendous, but it was like a cool setting.
- 48:29Speaker 5: That was that was pretty cool. And oh, third third
- 48:34Speaker 5: one third one is gonna be a difficult one.
- 48:37Speaker 2: It's tough to top Brazil, but go ahead try that's yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 8: That was a camp, right, that was that was cool.
- 48:45Speaker 5: I think we we did one with Coffeeld that was
- 48:47Speaker 5: pretty cool in Montreal. And the funny part about that
- 48:51Speaker 5: was we had rented the ice and they were late
- 48:54Speaker 5: coming from Blaineville at the factory, and so we had
- 48:59Speaker 5: like a half an hour to shoot, right, and we
- 49:01Speaker 5: were just having a great time shooting a little content,
- 49:04Speaker 5: and the beer leaguers started pouring out like they're like,
- 49:06Speaker 5: this is our time, Like we're.
- 49:08Speaker 9: Not going la off right, right, And so we start
- 49:12Speaker 9: playing with the Beer League guys. Yeah, and some of
- 49:17Speaker 9: the guys had like Coffeield jerseys on, so they're having
- 49:20Speaker 9: like the time of their life.
- 49:21Speaker 8: But at the same time they're like, hey, this is.
- 49:23Speaker 5: Our hour, Like I don't care what shoot it is, right,
- 49:26Speaker 5: and so so we just started pulling, like all these
- 49:29Speaker 5: Beer League guys started pouring in.
- 49:30Speaker 8: The goalie went in.
- 49:31Speaker 5: I mean I was like, oh my gosh, like you
- 49:34Speaker 5: can imagine like the stand up old style goalie must.
- 49:37Speaker 8: Have been in his sixties and he's like asking for the.
- 49:40Speaker 5: Smoke, right, and we're like, dude, come on right, and
- 49:43Speaker 5: but he went. He stayed in there. I don't think
- 49:46Speaker 5: he stopped a beach ball. But it was pretty quiet.
- 49:49Speaker 2: What everyone still has the dream.
- 49:54Speaker 3: That is so good that you wait.
- 49:56Speaker 5: I was waiting for someone to like take a hack
- 49:58Speaker 5: at him or something, but they were. They were super
- 50:00Speaker 5: cool and then like to like towards the end, they
- 50:02Speaker 5: were all asking for like pictures and stuff with them.
- 50:04Speaker 8: So it was pretty funny.
- 50:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask you how the Wrigley Field shoot come about? So,
- 50:08Speaker 2: because this is a big deal.
- 50:10Speaker 1: You're you're literally shooting at a baseball team, so you
- 50:12Speaker 1: have the NHL's permission, so to speak.
- 50:17Speaker 5: I think we did. I think we did no no,
- 50:21Speaker 5: So so we did. We did the full there like
- 50:26Speaker 5: like j Byrd films. He's that crazy drone guy, right,
- 50:29Speaker 5: So we had this one where they kind of go
- 50:31Speaker 5: through the whole stadium and out and like he wanted
- 50:34Speaker 5: me to do like the outside strip and uh, I
- 50:38Speaker 5: was like yeah, of course, Like I've seen his videos
- 50:40Speaker 5: and they're super cool. And then like he texts me,
- 50:43Speaker 5: He's like, hey, like I'm still in Wrigley, do you
- 50:45Speaker 5: want to come back in? And I was like yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 5: You know, it was kind of like do they know?
- 50:51Speaker 5: Did they not know? And then it was like super cool,
- 50:54Speaker 5: like the people inside were like the security started like
- 50:58Speaker 5: being security for.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Us so I could hold up Dune drone.
- 51:02Speaker 5: And then we were flying the drone everywhere and stuff,
- 51:05Speaker 5: so it was, uh, it was pretty cool.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:09Speaker 8: Then we got back in.
- 51:09Speaker 5: I don't know what type of uh clearance we had,
- 51:12Speaker 5: but we were we were okay.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I love it. Great stuff swagging. We appreciate you.
- 51:16Speaker 8: Man, of course, thank you.
- 51:27Speaker 1: All right, awesome stuff from Swaggy Pee again. He was
- 51:30Speaker 1: a really cool guy for a guy who's done a
- 51:32Speaker 1: lot of things. I feld m very down to earth
- 51:33Speaker 1: because I mean he's had a real impact JD on
- 51:35Speaker 1: the hockey community if you're a hockey, but you know
- 51:37Speaker 1: what Swaggy Pee is all about. Who isn't trying to
- 51:38Speaker 1: imitate what this guy's doing out there.
- 51:39Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 51:40Speaker 3: He's electric electric factory and he was great. I mean,
- 51:43Speaker 3: those are some awesome, awesome stories.
- 51:46Speaker 1: Speaking of electric I was locked into the Grammys as
- 51:49Speaker 1: I flew into Nashville, and even though I was in
- 51:51Speaker 1: music city, Green Day was invading speaking of Travis Green.
- 51:54Speaker 2: But I, well, I throw it on.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I missed the first little bit and I still tell
- 51:57Speaker 1: me just because I felt what happens is not to
- 51:59Speaker 1: be the old man in the room.
- 52:00Speaker 2: But I'm like, I know these people, but I don't like.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I hear the song that's Chapel, I'm like, wow, she
- 52:05Speaker 1: really bring him back to Charlie Chaplin music.
- 52:07Speaker 2: And she has a sorcerer's hat, the wizards thing. Yeah,
- 52:09Speaker 2: she's like a wizard.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Like, wow, Chapel Rhodes get up that that's gonna be
- 52:13Speaker 1: someone that's gonna be seen in Halloween. And Beyonce wins
- 52:15Speaker 1: for Best Country Album and she gives that faux shocked face.
- 52:18Speaker 2: I love that.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Well, that's my favorite part of the Oscars any wards
- 52:21Speaker 1: was they go there's only one time it was legitimate.
- 52:25Speaker 1: Olivia Coleman won Best Actress and everyone thought Glen Close
- 52:28Speaker 1: was gonna win for the wife and she was legitate, like,
- 52:30Speaker 1: like you know, that's a legit. She did not know
- 52:32Speaker 1: she was gonna win every other time. They're all full
- 52:34Speaker 1: of crap.
- 52:34Speaker 2: I love it. Beyonce followship, of course, you can believe it.
- 52:40Speaker 3: She well, yeah, jay Z had to pay a lot
- 52:43Speaker 3: of money to get that, get his name out of
- 52:45Speaker 3: the news, and little deflection here, there's a little or
- 52:50Speaker 3: whatever that was. And I was like, Casey Musgraves was
- 52:54Speaker 3: visibly upset. And then she came out and said we're
- 52:56Speaker 3: all supporting. I'm like, no, no, no stop. I'm like
- 52:59Speaker 3: name me, name me. Four of her songs on her
- 53:02Speaker 3: album says you could win. Nobody knows.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Everyone just the one major single and after that's whatever.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and it is what it is. I mean
- 53:09Speaker 3: that there's nothing more fun to me than to watch
- 53:13Speaker 3: the the masturbatory ness of awards shows and laugh.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Everyone loves each other, everyone's praising each other each other,
- 53:22Speaker 2: but we get to what we really need.
- 53:23Speaker 1: To talk about, which Zacharsky alluded to whichever one was talking, Heck,
- 53:27Speaker 1: you have to watch the grammyes. You're like Bianca sensory,
- 53:30Speaker 1: who is Kanye West better half.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Naked?
- 53:34Speaker 1: I mean it was unbelievable, Like wait, what, Like we've
- 53:37Speaker 1: seen some risky Ouphis Jad over the years, Like I
- 53:39Speaker 1: remember Britney Spears of the Snake, Christina Agilaris had some
- 53:42Speaker 1: sexy outfits like whateber it is whatever generation or Ryan
- 53:44Speaker 1: carry Sure.
- 53:45Speaker 2: But I was like, wait, I've never actually seen someone
- 53:46Speaker 2: on the red grup where you see through dress you
- 53:48Speaker 2: can see everything. And I'm like, I get it. It was awesome,
- 53:51Speaker 2: but it's kind of don't you want to save that
- 53:53Speaker 2: at home? He don't everyone get a free look here
- 53:55Speaker 2: at your girl? How did you get a lay with that?
- 53:58Speaker 3: That's crazy. I know two people on this podcast that
- 54:01Speaker 3: loved it, one one as a mustache. I loved it
- 54:06Speaker 3: and what and replayed it. I mean listen, I was like,
- 54:10Speaker 3: oh shit, I was saying, okay, I'm like this is
- 54:13Speaker 3: what I was like, okay, this is what we're doing.
- 54:16Speaker 3: He's like, all right, just but you know, somebody, somebody
- 54:19Speaker 3: out there is gonna be like art.
- 54:23Speaker 2: So that's gratuitous.
- 54:24Speaker 3: We can all then, now that's gratuitous. Now that's gratuitous.
- 54:27Speaker 3: You keep pushing the line, that's what happens. Like again,
- 54:31Speaker 3: I just was like, I mean, listen, Kanye's lost his
- 54:34Speaker 3: mind a couple of years ago or however long ago.
- 54:36Speaker 3: I mean, he always lost it. But this I don't
- 54:39Speaker 3: even know what the hell she's doing, but yeah, it's
- 54:42Speaker 3: just straight naked. How about how about Will Smith's son,
- 54:46Speaker 3: We're in a house on his head too. Just this
- 54:48Speaker 3: whole idiot family, idiot idiots, all of them.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Well, this was a ton of fun here.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Talking about the Grammys, talking about the substance and of
- 54:57Speaker 1: course special things. Zakarinsky and Swaggedy, both guys were unbelievable.
