Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: October, orchard of the year. Bend your boughs to the earth,
- 0:05Speaker 1: fragrant with glowing fruit. Ripened seeds shake in their pods.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Apples drop in the stillest hours. Leaves begin to let
- 0:14Speaker 1: go when there's no wind at all and swing in long,
- 0:18Speaker 1: wavering arcs toward the ground, which they touch without a sound.
- 0:23Speaker 1: There they lie, looking up, until the winds rake them
- 0:27Speaker 1: together and heap them in fence corners. When the gales
- 0:30Speaker 1: come through the trees, the yellow leaves trail out like
- 0:33Speaker 1: sparks at night behind the flying engine. The woods are
- 0:37Speaker 1: thinner now, so we can see each leaf more plainly
- 0:40Speaker 1: as we lie dreaming on the still warm moss beside
- 0:43Speaker 1: the singing spring. The days are calm. The nights are tranquil.
- 0:49Speaker 1: The year's work is done. She walks in gorgeous apparel,
- 0:53Speaker 1: looking over her long labor, and her serene eye says,
- 0:58Speaker 1: it is good.
