- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Tristan, what is up, my man?
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: You're speaking to former Lubbock resident of Three Days, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:57SPEAKER_05: So I'm a changed man, just like our Red Raiders, because this Red Raider team is no longer on a losing streak.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: And what does that mean that we need to do here on the Talk of Tech podcast?
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: Man, you gotta play the song.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: I guess we have to play the song.
- 1:32SPEAKER_05: Okay, was was that for the football team or the basketball team that is now 3 0?
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: Well, we could do it for both because you know we win.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: That's all we do here at Texas Tech is win football and basketball games, apparently.
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: That's that's all we do.
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: I mean, don't look at our football record, just take us take our word for it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_04: If you're looking at our football record, stop it.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: Okay, look at last week's record and we're one and oh.
- 1:56SPEAKER_05: What are you calling us liars?
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: What are you calling us liars?
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: No.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech football is undefeated in the last week.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: And I tell you what, it was a nice, it was a nice line.
- 2:07SPEAKER_05: It was.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: We blasted those birds with shoes.
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: I would say out of the sky, but would the bird be in the sky?
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: No.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: Does the flightless bird?
- 2:18SPEAKER_05: Is it a flightless bird?
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: It has shoes.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: Why would it need shoes if it flies?
- 2:25SPEAKER_05: In every iteration, artistically, I've never seen it in like flying form.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: I think the jayhawk is a flightless bird.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 2:33SPEAKER_04: It's always feet on the ground for the Jayhawk.
- 2:36SPEAKER_04: Um, by the way, best helmets I've seen from Kansas.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: They need to keep those full time.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Uh the normal Jayhawk logo is stupid.
- 2:44SPEAKER_04: I will die on this hill.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: It is the one of the stupidest logos in Power Five college sports.
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like it's too cartoony, it's too much.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: So the KU on the helmet looked really clean.
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: I I I'm with you.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: I I always prefer a lettering logo over a mascot logo.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: Like, I like that Texas Tech's main icon is the double T and not the Mask Rider uh symbol.
- 3:13SPEAKER_05: The all R.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: I don't like the Mask Rider logo.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: You know I do used in like the 2000.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: No, no, no.
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: Oh no, I don't I don't I don't mean I I don't mean I like it on the helmet.
- 3:21SPEAKER_05: I do like the logo.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: I do.
- 3:24SPEAKER_05: I think it's cool on certain like gear, like if you're buying like a hat or like a polo or something like that and use sparingly here and there, I like it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_05: But I like the double T as the main representative representation of Texas Tech.
- 3:39SPEAKER_05: Like like with Kansas, I like the goofy bird, but not as a primary logo.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: It's you know like it's a bird that's wearing pilgrim shoes.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: That's I like I like the guilty, I like the goofy bird.
- 3:53SPEAKER_05: I like in and we have officially decided we classify the species as a flightless animal.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: Um you can see why its wings are so small now.
- 4:03SPEAKER_05: You know, in all the iterations, the wings are quite small.
- 4:05SPEAKER_05: Its wingspan seems very short, so no way that would get the animal off the ground.
- 4:10SPEAKER_04: They should go back to the sexy Jayhawk logo.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: I love that one.
- 4:14SPEAKER_04: That will make me act uh, dude.
- 4:16SPEAKER_05: I'm glad that they probably they probably made this, they probably made the judgment call with all the guys around, like going, oh sheesh, man.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: That jayhawk be acting.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Who's in that room?
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: Who's in the room that said that uh okayed that logo?
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: Because they were just they're weirdos, like all the people in that room that approved that logo were a bunch of weirdos.
- 4:40SPEAKER_05: Look, yeah, I bet I bet they looked at it and he went, you know what this needs?
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: This needs some sex appeal.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: Give it legs, give it some legs.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: What do the people like?
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: They like sex appeal.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: Let's make let's make the jayhog sexy.
- 4:54SPEAKER_05: No, uh even okay.
- 4:56SPEAKER_05: Before we move on from the sexy jayhog, even more psychotic is they went and made a mascot, like live mascot costume of it, of the sexy jayhawk.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: Oh my did they really?
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I invite all of y'all to Google that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: Oh good lord.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: Well, I guess yeah, I guess I'll have to do that.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: But no, we should we should talk about the game.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, what game?
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: What game?
- 5:21SPEAKER_04: I was just thinking about the sexy jayhawk.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: No, uh 4328, Texas Tech.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: Uh, your red Raiders improved to what five and one?
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: No, four and one at home.
- 5:33SPEAKER_05: Uh yes, we've lost a single game at home.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: No, five and one then, because all the we haven't won on the road.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: So, yes, we are five and five and five on the year.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: That was easy math.
- 5:46SPEAKER_04: One game away from bull from bull eligibility, which is really nice.
- 5:50SPEAKER_04: Um I this is a great game, dude.
- 5:53SPEAKER_04: I thought Texas Tech played really, really good in this game.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: I, you know, minus the second quarter.
- 5:58SPEAKER_04: I thought everything else was great.
- 6:00SPEAKER_05: 100% with you, man.
- 6:02SPEAKER_05: Uh, whenever I was at the game, I like I wasn't nervous at all.
- 6:04SPEAKER_05: I went in there and we like took the lead, and I was never worried about losing it.
- 6:08SPEAKER_05: You know, obviously, you know, Kansas started, you know, making it more of a game here and there, but I was never really concerned that they're gonna take over.
- 6:16SPEAKER_05: I felt confident the entire game.
- 6:17SPEAKER_05: Did you how was that how you're feeling on the on the couch?
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Or yeah, I mean they started off really hot.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: I thought Shuck was playing well, I thought the defense was playing well, and then the second quarter barrage happened, and I got a little more nervous.
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, I but yeah, I I kind of agree.
- 6:31SPEAKER_04: I was never really like, oh no, here comes Kansas, you know, like Devin Neal was killing us on the ground, but other than that, I you know, I didn't think Jason Bean was gonna be the guy to beat you.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: Um, and then their defense is just brutal.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: So yeah, we didn't get beaned.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we did not get beaned by our guy Jason, but um no, I I I was I was really confident in Tyler Shuck, actually.
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: After the first couple possessions, I was really like, okay, this guy seems like a new quarterback, a guy where he potentially in the past we've seen him struggle mentally, I think, in the game.
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: And um, we didn't really see that.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: We saw a confident Tyler Shuck making quick decisions, making the right throws, and um, you know, using his legs, which is really cool to see.
- 7:17SPEAKER_04: Um, and yeah, I thought I thought he was a huge part of your victory, man.
- 7:21SPEAKER_05: He is your true QB2 at this point.
- 7:24SPEAKER_05: This is a great game to get him right, like you just said.
- 7:27SPEAKER_05: This is a great game for him to get back into the zone, maybe start looking like he was supposed to at the beginning of the season, look like your QB1.
- 7:34SPEAKER_05: Obviously, Barry Morton's kind of take that job, but our guy's uh a bit injured right now.
- 7:39SPEAKER_05: But he did seem poised to really, you know, take the mantle to push us forward.
- 7:44SPEAKER_05: You know, you beat a pretty good Kansas team.
- 7:47SPEAKER_05: Like this Kansas team is bowl eligible.
- 7:49SPEAKER_05: We're not yet.
- 7:50SPEAKER_05: So this team has done something you have not yet.
- 7:53SPEAKER_05: So I think he looked good.
- 7:55SPEAKER_05: Uh, a great way to get it done at home in front of the home crowd.
- 7:58SPEAKER_05: So I was I really enjoyed watching him play.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, me too.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Um, I you know, I thought they should have started Donovan Smith going into the game.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: I thought he was um he was the right choice there.
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: But uh obviously uh Tyler Shuck played really well and and uh they made the right decision there.
- 8:15SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, Joey said prior to the game, I don't I forget who tweeted it, but some reporter, um, and they were like, Donovan Smith, Joey said that when Donovan Smith comes in, he's gonna finish the rest of the drive no matter what, after he comes in.
- 8:31SPEAKER_04: And basically Joey McGuire lied to us because he didn't do that, um, which was fine, which was cool, because I didn't want that to happen.
- 8:38SPEAKER_04: I was very upset when that report came out that Donovan Smith's just gonna take over once he comes in.
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: It's like, no, no, no, that's what killed us in the Baylor game.
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: Let's not do that and let's just stick with one guy.
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: Um, and I I thought they did a great job of sticking to Tyler Shuck for the most part.
- 8:54SPEAKER_04: Like Donovan ran in that first touchdown, but other than that, he didn't really play a ton, and I was a-okay with that.
- 9:00SPEAKER_05: Joey just pulled the old switch crew, he was just trying to keep those Jayhawk coordinators on their on their toes, you know.
- 9:06SPEAKER_05: Because they they probably went in thinking that, like, obviously, this is solid law, and we'll base the entire game plan around this statement.
- 9:13SPEAKER_05: And it worked, baby.
- 9:15SPEAKER_05: It worked.
- 9:16SPEAKER_05: Master deceiver, Joey Maguire.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: Congratulations to Joey Maguire for officially tricking Lance Lipold and the Kansas Jayhawks.
- 9:24SPEAKER_04: Very nice.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: Uh, very nice there.
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: But um, no, the I mean, everybody was talking about it all week.
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: The reason you won this game was on uh because of the run game, because you uh quote unquote ran the damn ball.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: Um, Sir Roderick Thompson was excellent.
- 9:39SPEAKER_04: Uh, he only had seven attempts, but he had 68 yards, uh, including a long touchdown uh and a uh Derrick Henry style stiff arm.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: That man put that defender into the dirt, so I mean, with such ferocity.
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: Big fan of Sir Roderick Thompson this game.
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: He you know, he is he is uh he was in true form this game, man.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: He was electric to watch, and especially whenever he ran in that touchdown.
- 10:05SPEAKER_05: That was an awesome thing to see.
- 10:06SPEAKER_05: It was something we were begging for this game.
- 10:08SPEAKER_05: Like every it seemed like every single fan, the the biggest complaint was we're not working our run game in enough.
- 10:14SPEAKER_05: We're relying too much on the passing game, and it proved well this this game.
- 10:19SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, you have one of the best running back rooms in the conference, you gotta use him.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: And it looks like we finally smartened up and used it well against a decent Jayhawk team.
- 10:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and Taj's per carry yards weren't great, but he had that unreal uh last touchdown there where he just juke the hell out of that linebacker uh and ran in for the to give us 42.
- 10:40SPEAKER_04: Um, Cameron Valdez, we need to spend a minute on him because uh he's coming in red shirt freshman.
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: Um uh hasn't played really all season.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: Uh I think a lot of that was due to injury at the beginning of the year, but he's come on and had those uh couple of really long runs at the end of the TCU game and came in and ran hard this one.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: He had 11 attempts for 66 yards.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: I mean, um he's he's a dude and he's he's a guy that you feel comfortable with uh with losing, you know, a guy like Sir Roderick Thompson, who's um you know been here a long time and been one of your really good running backs.
- 11:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, but to have a guy in your back pocket and Caraman Valdez to eventually take over uh is really nice.
- 11:22SPEAKER_05: Love seeing the young guys getting worked in, man.
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: And like you just said, it really gives you confidence moving forward into the future.
- 11:27SPEAKER_05: Uh because you get kind of you get kind of nervous, like right, like losing a veteran.
- 11:31SPEAKER_05: So it's good to see this kid really stepping up early and so showing what he's got now before he develops even further as a player.
- 11:38SPEAKER_05: So it's exciting stuff to see him.
- 11:40SPEAKER_05: It was fun watching him.
- 11:41SPEAKER_05: I can't wait to see what he keeps doing.
- 11:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 11:43SPEAKER_04: Um defensively, I thought you played a solid game.
- 11:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, you obviously you gave up some big plays, uh, one at the very beginning.
- 11:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, you couldn't really stop Devin Neal.
- 11:53SPEAKER_04: He was a beast uh on their on their end.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, but he's just a good running back in general.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I it's still not uh cool you gave up 190 just to one guy on the ground, but um, you know, I thought the defense held up in in big spots in big moments off of uh a couple turnovers, off of a big play.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: You know, you held him to a field goal here, and then eventually the guy doinks two of them.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: So uh I thought our defense played pretty well overall.
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: Agreed.
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: And it what was great to watch about this game with the defense is you know, it was about dang time.
- 12:25SPEAKER_05: We got to watch the offense and defense both work well.
- 12:27SPEAKER_05: Uh, because when we both worked well, everything was working fine.
- 12:30SPEAKER_05: We we we won no problems.
- 12:32SPEAKER_05: And like I said, I didn't field nervous the entire time because both sides of the ball were firing off on all center cylinders.
- 12:37SPEAKER_05: So I agreed.
- 12:38SPEAKER_05: Like solid showing from the defense.
- 12:39SPEAKER_05: I mean, what more can you ask for whenever you uh uh you you hold them hold a good offense uh to to a score that was definitely manageable?
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: Uh 28 is definitely manageable, and you put up 43, so you gotta love that.
- 12:53SPEAKER_04: Um I I have one thing to say.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: If that was the last time we saw Tyree Wilson in a red Raider uniform, salute to you, my friend.
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: Um, unbelievable year for him.
- 13:05SPEAKER_04: Uh obviously went down with the injury uh this game.
- 13:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, he was on crutches on the sideline.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: It didn't look great.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: Um, and I would be really surprised if we do see Tyree Wilson play one of these last two, potentially three games we have this season.
- 13:20SPEAKER_04: Um, that guy is a first-round pick in the NFL, and he does not need to be putting his health uh on the line here to try to get back and play a game or two uh for you know a 6'7 win football team.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: So uh absolute salute to Tyree Wilson.
- 13:38SPEAKER_04: Um really fun to watch.
- 13:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man, it was really sad to see him go down.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: Uh the the stadium certainly got quiet when that happens.
- 13:46SPEAKER_05: And everyone, you can hear everyone around, you go, Oh my god, is that Tyree?
- 13:50SPEAKER_05: No, Tyree.
- 13:50SPEAKER_05: You know, you heard that all around.
- 13:52SPEAKER_05: And you know, this guy's just a superstar.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: He's definitely the best player on your defense, possibly the best player on the whole team.
- 13:58SPEAKER_05: I don't even know that'd be a hot take.
- 14:00SPEAKER_05: Is that a hot take?
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: No, no, he's a first round pick in the NFL back there.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and as Joey said, you know, he should be at a consistent all-American.
- 14:09SPEAKER_05: So uh absolutely, man, hats off to him.
- 14:12SPEAKER_05: A great red raider.
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: And I really do can't wait to see him uh on the Sunday.
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: I mean it's gonna happen, so it's gonna it's gonna be great to see.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: And we need more Red Raiders in the NFL.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: So we're gonna it's gonna be fun to watch more of him on defense, too.
- 14:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, uh, absolute dominant season for him.
- 14:27SPEAKER_04: He definitely improved his draft stock over here at Texas Tech.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: And hey, another NFL first round pick for Texas Tech is never a bad thing.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: So no, sir.
- 14:36SPEAKER_04: Um I I don't want him personally to come back for his sake because I'd love to see him play another game in a Texas Tech uniform, but he does not need to do that.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: He's got to focus on his NFL career coming up.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: So uh shouts out Tyree.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: 100%, man.
- 14:50SPEAKER_05: Shouts out.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: Um, okay.
- 14:52SPEAKER_05: One man I would never want to see coming at me.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: No, no, one guy I never want to be on the opposing side of because that man would demolish me.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: Uh I want to hear about Loving.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: I want to hear about your experience over there in the LBK because I haven't been since uh what when did we go last time?
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: The Baylor game.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: I haven't been since the Baylor game in 2020.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Um you you just went for this one.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: Uh you went with our our buddy Clay and obviously your wife and and his girlfriend.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: And how was the weekend?
- 15:26SPEAKER_05: Dude, it was amazing.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: You know, we got some EV Mays and don't want to, and then obviously hit every single bar on Broadway, got all the specialties, went to two docs.
- 15:36SPEAKER_05: Don't want to bore y'all with the details, but I mean it's it's so great to get back, dude.
- 15:39SPEAKER_05: It's a different experience being an alumni.
- 15:41SPEAKER_05: I mean, being a student's great, but like it's it's just fun to come back as an alumni and enjoy all those things again.
- 15:47SPEAKER_05: It's just amazing.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: And I was a little disappointed with the crowd and the Jones.
- 15:52SPEAKER_05: I was just about to ask.
- 15:54SPEAKER_05: Um, it's I before I even walked in, like, before I even came up, I came up to Lubbock, I knew there was a possibility the Jones was gonna be a beat bet week this this weekend.
- 16:05SPEAKER_05: It was gonna be really cold.
- 16:07SPEAKER_05: It was cold, and we're playing Kansas, not a sellout kind of team.
- 16:11SPEAKER_05: And we were going to two loss, uh, a two a two-streak loss there.
- 16:14SPEAKER_05: So you can understand why the showing would be great, but I think it probably the weather more than anything kept people away.
- 16:19SPEAKER_05: But it's it was a little disappointing in that sense.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: But overall, I mean, I I think the crowd was good enough, but obviously on TV it probably didn't look too good.
- 16:27SPEAKER_05: And but uh uh like I said, you know, it is what it is, but I still had a great time.
- 16:32SPEAKER_05: I was still allowed.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, and uh I'm I'm glad we have alumni that go back like you, and like I want to.
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: Uh but you know, we talk about it, Texas Tech, we're you know, big on social media, we're uh crazy fans, we always show out, and then you look at that game and you're just like, man, we did not show out.
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: Um, and we really need to kind of wake up a little bit when it comes to the fan showing in football.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: I know we haven't been very good.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: I don't think I'm not really arguing with somebody that says, you know, why would I go watch a four and five football team in 35 degree weather or whatever?
- 17:13SPEAKER_04: But also don't say that our fans always show up because they clearly they don't, you know.
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: Um, and and that's disappointing to watch.
- 17:24SPEAKER_04: The more disappointing part, and this has always been a problem.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, even when we've been good or ahead at the half, people leave.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: I mean, way too early.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: They just pile out of the game at the second, third quarter or whatever.
- 17:38SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm sure, and I wasn't there, so you could speak to it, but when Kansas went on the run and got within three, I'm sure people piled out at that point, and they were like, I don't want to watch this, I'm gonna go drink.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: You know, that bothers me more than people just not showing up in general, is the people that make an effort to go to the game and then they don't stay.
- 18:00SPEAKER_05: And honestly, that the bigger the bigger issue with that, it's not so much the alumni and the Lubbock fans and just you know the diehards that are showing up to the game, it's more the students.
- 18:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and the students are placed in that spot where the TV is centered on them.
- 18:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and the the thing, the problem is the students have the the the least amount of excuses not to be there and not to stay.
- 18:23SPEAKER_05: You know, you get in for free, you get the best seats in the house, and if you want to go get a drink, you can still go get a drink.
- 18:31SPEAKER_05: I mean, I don't understand what the what the problem, like you can still go grab a beer.
- 18:35SPEAKER_05: I don't understand what the the issue is there because they show out so well to basketball, but it can be a little disappointing with football.
- 18:44SPEAKER_05: Maybe it's those same fans at basketball, they're going to football, and since you know it's not as big of a stadium, it doesn't show out the same, but it's just disappointing.
- 18:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, I I think if we just kind of say this as you know, the exceptions were kind of the the the top 25 percenters that went to every single game, no matter what.
- 18:59SPEAKER_05: So it's just frustrating to see, you know, our our students not filling it, fill it in.
- 19:03SPEAKER_05: But I mean, what what are you gonna do?
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: The the only the only real cure for that kind of thing is winning games.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I mean that will change if we have put together, you know, some winning seasons in a row, you get a nine-10 win season here or there, you're gonna get the fan base more hyped up.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: That's obvious.
- 19:19SPEAKER_04: But um, yeah, I just hate it when people uh will boast about our fan base on Twitter and then you know make fun of TCU's fan base or make fun of Baylor's fan base, and yet we're filling up half our stadium in the second half against the six and three team when we're winning the whole game.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: It's ridiculous.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: So um, yeah, if you leave the game, uh I don't I don't want to hear about the weather either.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: Like Big Ten fans go to football games, yeah, and their games are always cold and much colder than 35 degree loving.
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: Like, wear layers, layer up, people.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: Like, go to if you're gonna go to the game, stay at the game.
- 19:54SPEAKER_05: Straight up went to Academy before the uh the the day before the game and got like some Long Johns, got like some undergarments.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: It's a good idea.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: It's a great idea.
- 20:02SPEAKER_05: It was it was so they worked out great.
- 20:05SPEAKER_05: They were 10 bucks a pop, Magellan uh cotton under garments, so it ruled, but yeah, no, I'm with you, man.
- 20:12SPEAKER_05: It's it's Lubbock, we know it's cold.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: So yeah, yeah, I'm with you in the week.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: Now I will say the students that aren't from West Texas don't really know.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: Like I didn't know because we were born and raised in San Antonio, and going up to Lubbock, I mean, I didn't really think it was gonna get that cold.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: And it gets cold.
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: I'm not I'm not denying that it's cold up there, but uh, you know, pre prepare yourself.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Don't you know, don't just wear a long sleeve shirt or something and be like, yeah, it's cool, 35 degrees.
- 20:39SPEAKER_05: 100%, man.
- 20:40SPEAKER_05: Still got the dub, and overall, I think it's been a good showing at home.
- 20:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, it's we're we've we've been pretty much undefeated at home, and it's it's been a great crowd for the most part.
- 20:50SPEAKER_05: So hopefully it's just a bad game in you know Kansas.
- 20:53SPEAKER_05: Kansas still has Kansas, even though they're having a good season, still has that Kansas sort of stigma.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: It's true, it's true.
- 21:00SPEAKER_04: I think there'll be a better showing for Oklahoma here in uh next week.
- 21:04SPEAKER_05: So oh agreed, agreed.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: So cool football, awesome.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: We have Iowa State up next.
- 21:11SPEAKER_05: Um, a very, very another birds with shoes.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: Another bird with shoes.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: Why are all these birds with shoes in this conference with us?
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Um, it's gonna be very cold.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: If you didn't see the pictures on Twitter, uh Jack Trice Stadium has like, I don't know, seven inches of snow on the bleachers right now.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: So it's gonna be freaking cold.
- 21:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, I don't, you know, Iowa State obviously is not having a great year.
- 21:43SPEAKER_04: Uh, their fan base is really down.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: Um, it's it's just not been good for the cyclones this year.
- 21:49SPEAKER_04: Um, but despite all that, their defense is really good.
- 21:53SPEAKER_04: Their offense is not very good.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: So they're a formidable opponent.
- 21:57SPEAKER_04: Every every team in the Big 12 this year is a formidable opponent.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Formidable opponent.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: You can't take this game lightly.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: Obviously, you're five and five.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: You know, you don't have a winning record in the Big 12 right now, but Iowa State has been even worse than you.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: So I don't know.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: What are your thoughts going into Iowa State?
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: How do you think tech's gonna uh perform?
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: How do you think the mindset's gonna be?
- 22:18SPEAKER_04: What do you think?
- 22:19SPEAKER_05: I think it prepace this pretty well.
- 22:20SPEAKER_05: I think I think you have two pretty evenly matched teams.
- 22:23SPEAKER_05: I'm not saying that we have the same strengths and weaknesses, but we kind of even out to a pretty similar looking team.
- 22:30SPEAKER_05: And Iowa State's let some close ones get by them.
- 22:32SPEAKER_05: It's not like they're getting like blown out or anything like that.
- 22:35SPEAKER_05: They've just had some real heartbreakers, just some real nail biters.
- 22:39SPEAKER_05: So I I don't I'm not chalking this up as a win at all.
- 22:42SPEAKER_05: I if anything, I feel more confident about the Oklahoma game in a couple weeks than I do this one.
- 22:46SPEAKER_05: So yeah, um, I think getting the bull eligibility is gonna be a struggle.
- 22:50SPEAKER_05: And if if you if you get in there and knock it out this this week, uh obviously you're there and you're feeling really good.
- 23:00SPEAKER_05: But it's gonna be a battle, man, and it's gonna be a cold battle.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: Do you think it's more likely we go 2-0 or 0-2 to finish off the year?
- 23:08SPEAKER_05: I'm being completely honest, 0-2.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:12SPEAKER_04: I'm actually the opposite.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: I actually think it's more likely we go two and oh.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: And yeah, and it might just be the fact that we just played a really, really good game against a good team in Can Kansas, is a good team.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: I know they don't have Jalen Daniels, but they're still a good team.
- 23:27SPEAKER_04: That team that we just played just beat Oklahoma State, who also is a good team.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: Um so uh I just I haven't believed in Iowa State at all this year.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: I never believed in them to start.
- 23:40SPEAKER_04: Um, and so I think you can really take advantage if you continue to do what you've been doing when you win games, which is running the ball.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: You get Taj Brooks, you get Sir Roderick Thompson, you get Cameron Valdez, you potentially get Tyler Shuck in there running the ball 40 plus times a game, you usually turn out uh and win the game.
- 24:07SPEAKER_04: So um I think if Kidley doesn't recognize that by now, you know, what do you what are you doing?
- 24:14SPEAKER_04: But um yeah, no, I think uh I think if you run the ball and you play uh your your offensive line holds up, I I think you should win this game.
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: I'm with you.
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, I I I've whenever I said oh and two, I just think that's more likely.
- 24:31SPEAKER_05: I don't think that's like going to happen.
- 24:33SPEAKER_05: And I and I and I'm like I'm already counting the season out.
- 24:36SPEAKER_05: Obviously, I'm gonna go into Saturday hoping we win.
- 24:39SPEAKER_05: But here's the thing like we we uh we haven't won a single game on the road.
- 24:43SPEAKER_05: And we're about to go into this probably a pretty popping environment.
- 24:48SPEAKER_05: You know, it's gonna be and it's gonna be really cold.
- 24:50SPEAKER_05: Is it gonna be both?
- 24:51SPEAKER_05: You're gonna be playing.
- 24:53SPEAKER_05: You're right.
- 24:54SPEAKER_05: Okay, it's it, you know, it's four and so I would say it's got a solid fan base.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I'm not denying that, but they're also four and six, and uh, you know, it's gonna be 13 degrees or whatever.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: Fair, fair.
- 25:06SPEAKER_05: But also you're gonna be but you're gonna play, you're gonna be playing a team that's gonna be fighting tooth and nail to get bowl eligibility.
- 25:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and we're doing the same thing, but them even more so.
- 25:16SPEAKER_05: They have a little more motivation to come out and win this game than we do, um, because the difference between winning and losing our game is bowl eligibility.
- 25:24SPEAKER_05: So uh I I just think it's gonna be a really tough game.
- 25:27SPEAKER_05: And I but I do I'm with you.
- 25:28SPEAKER_05: I think if we come out with a really balanced attack, Hitley uses the experience he's gained over this his first power five season, which he showed to play a very balanced and great game against Kansas.
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: Um, we have a great chance of winning.
- 25:39SPEAKER_05: And I I do think we have the more talented team.
- 25:41SPEAKER_05: I do, I think, especially on offense.
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: So I think if we can get out in the lead, keep it, I I think we have a great shot at at making it happen.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: I think this game depends on how Tyler Shuck plays in a in a away environment in cold weather uh against a pretty solid defense.
- 26:02SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, we've seen Tyler Shuck be very good.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: We've seen Tyler Shuck be not so good in his career here at Texas Tech.
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: And um, I think a lot of people are really high on him, obviously, because he just had a really good game.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: Uh, but you know, Tyler Shuck, if anything, has been inconsistent.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, I need to see more out of him.
- 26:21SPEAKER_04: And I hope he plays with the same type of mentality that he played against Kansas with.
- 26:27SPEAKER_04: Um, and yeah, I I think it'll be a good game regardless.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: I don't think this is gonna be a blowout either way.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: I think it's gonna be a tight one and a fun one.
- 26:37SPEAKER_04: Um, it's a night game, six o'clock uh over there in Ames, Iowa.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: Um what do you think, man?
- 26:45SPEAKER_04: You got a score prediction?
- 26:46SPEAKER_05: All right, I knew you were gonna ask.
- 26:48SPEAKER_05: You know, I'm gonna go with like a 32 to 21 us.
- 26:52SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 26:52SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 26:53SPEAKER_05: So you get a couple score game.
- 26:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 26:57SPEAKER_05: I think I think that's how we're gonna win this game.
- 26:58SPEAKER_05: I don't want to get into a defensive battle with them.
- 27:00SPEAKER_05: I think if you uh if you get into this like low-scoring back and forth slug fests where you're relying on the defense to win you the game, Iowa State has a better chance at winning that.
- 27:10SPEAKER_05: And I I I'm hoping that we come out with uh you like we keep saying, a balance attack, get ahead, and hopefully we can put up a couple scores on them and they can't catch up.
- 27:18SPEAKER_05: That's my hope.
- 27:19SPEAKER_05: That's what I hope happens.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: I think so too.
- 27:22SPEAKER_04: I think if you score 28 points, I think you win against Iowa State.
- 27:25SPEAKER_04: Because I don't think Iowa State can even without Tyree Wilson, I don't think Iowa State can put up more than 28 on you, uh, or shouldn't at least.
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go Red Raiders 31, Iowa State 28.
- 27:39SPEAKER_04: Um, okay.
- 27:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right on right on the dot right there.
- 27:43SPEAKER_04: Um I I just their offense is not good.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: Their offense is just not good.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: They have one receiver, and that's it.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: Uh their running backs aren't nearly as good as what they've had in the past.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'm not, I don't trust Hunter Deckers to beat you.
- 28:00SPEAKER_04: Um, if anything, if if Iowa State beats you, they've caused a couple turnovers.
- 28:05SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, their defense has kind of won the battle for them.
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: So I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 28:10SPEAKER_04: I think Tech will take care of the ball uh pretty well.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: And uh they come out with a victory here and we get bull eligibility in Ames.
- 28:16SPEAKER_04: How about that?
- 28:16SPEAKER_05: I was about to say, man, and and pop the champagne.
- 28:18SPEAKER_05: You get uh Joey gets his first road win, gets his first bull eligibility season.
- 28:22SPEAKER_05: And that's what I said.
- 28:23SPEAKER_05: That's kind of been my barometer.
- 28:24SPEAKER_05: Let's get the bowl eligibility, baby.
- 28:26SPEAKER_04: And we all wanted that.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: I don't care what anybody said at the beginning of the season.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: We were we would be happy if we had bull eligibility.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: Now, I think we did have a lot of talent, and we probably could have done better if certain things went you know different ways.
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: But um, no, I think overall you get to six and five here, or even if you lose this one and beat Oklahoma, you get to six wins.
- 28:47SPEAKER_04: I think it's a a successful year, something to build off of.
- 28:50SPEAKER_04: And um, yeah, I I I'm I'm still high on this football team.
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: I think the future of this program is very bright.
- 28:57SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm for six yeah, man.
- 28:59SPEAKER_05: Football rules again.
- 29:02SPEAKER_04: Woo! Football, football's in a good spot.
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: In a good spot.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: Um you want to talk basketball?
- 29:10SPEAKER_05: Uh no.
- 29:11SPEAKER_05: Goodbye, everybody.
- 29:12SPEAKER_05: Goodbye.
- 29:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, dude.
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about basketball.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: Um, despite what some people think on Twitter um about a certain freshman, uh I think we've looked pretty good through three games.
- 29:25SPEAKER_04: We've had a we've had our downfalls, we've had a lot of uh a lot of turnovers through three games, but overall, I like what I'm watching.
- 29:33SPEAKER_05: Bro, we're three and oh, and two of those three haven't even been close.
- 29:37SPEAKER_05: And can you it's I don't know if calling the third one close is very fair either, but it was actually it was actually more of a challenge.
- 29:45SPEAKER_05: You won by nine, it's a good team.
- 29:47SPEAKER_05: You won by nine.
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, exactly.
- 29:49SPEAKER_05: It's it's obviously the best team you played so far.
- 29:51SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, maybe Northwestern Day demons are maybe maybe that's been the best team you played.
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: If you had more work, I mean, yeah.
- 29:59SPEAKER_05: But no, man, how could you be upset with the way the way things are going?
- 30:02SPEAKER_05: I'm glad they're being challenged.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: I'm glad we're seeing issues now.
- 30:06SPEAKER_05: I would like to see these problems now before we start seeing some real uh competition.
- 30:09SPEAKER_05: So that way the coaches can coach their players.
- 30:12SPEAKER_05: That's the whole point.
- 30:13SPEAKER_05: So uh so far, so good.
- 30:15SPEAKER_05: What more could you say?
- 30:17SPEAKER_04: Adams is letting them, he's not letting them, but he's he's not benching them immediately after making mistakes because he knows that we have four freshmen that well, three of them played legitimate minutes on this team.
- 30:30SPEAKER_04: You have everybody else is brand new besides KO, Bacho, and KJ.
- 30:35SPEAKER_04: And Bacho and KJ didn't even play a lot last year, so this whole entire team is gonna take a little time.
- 30:41SPEAKER_04: And uh, Maui may be a wake-up call because you're playing, you got some really good teams in that in that uh bracket there.
- 30:48SPEAKER_04: But yeah, I think you're gonna have a few games like Louisiana Tech.
- 30:52SPEAKER_04: You just are.
- 30:53SPEAKER_04: You have young pieces on this team that are adjusting to college basketball.
- 30:58SPEAKER_04: And if you think this is the last iteration of Texas Tech that we're watching right now, you're a fool because this team's gonna improve, they're gonna get better, they're gonna learn to play together better, and it's gonna be fine.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, uh now, are we world beaters?
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: No, we're not world beaters right now, but I think we have a really solid team and a really good foundation and a really good coach.
- 31:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: Uh, I'm totally with you.
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: I would hope the team that is crushing the the you know the squads that aren't exactly uh Big 12 level is the same team that you're going to send to the tournament.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: I hope the team you're sending to the tournament is much more battle tested and is much more gelled chemistry-wise.
- 31:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 31:41SPEAKER_05: You know, there's a lot of chemistry to be built on this team with all the freshmen, with all the new faces, and then you just can't do that in practice.
- 31:47SPEAKER_05: You have to you have to see, you have to be under the lights, you have to be under pressure for that to begin to happen on a real level.
- 31:53SPEAKER_05: So I'm totally with you.
- 31:54SPEAKER_05: And I can see why people will be frustrated watching some performances where you're like, oh, we need to be blowing them out by 30.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: But remember, there's another team on the other side of the court that's also playing good and bad games, you know, they could be playing a little harder and having uh uh things just kind of go right for them a little more so than your team at certain points.
- 32:14SPEAKER_05: So it's not all just about the Red Raiders either.
- 32:16SPEAKER_05: But other overall, man, I think people just need to be a little patient.
- 32:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, we're three, you know.
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: We could be we could be worse.
- 32:21SPEAKER_05: Some teams are having a really bad time right now with high expectations as well.
- 32:24SPEAKER_05: So, all things considered, uh, I'm loving things.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I'm I'm I'm happy with it.
- 32:30SPEAKER_04: I think uh certain guys are playing really well.
- 32:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I thought minus the two turnovers there at the end, I thought Kevin O'Banner had a great game.
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: I thought Davion Harman played his best game as a Red Raider.
- 32:40SPEAKER_04: Um, and if he plays like that, game in, game out, I mean, you got a dude right there.
- 32:46SPEAKER_04: I mean, you got a guy.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he was fantastic.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: And mostly on the defensive end, on the offensive end, he obviously hit some huge shots and got out on the fast break and everything.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: But um, no, I thought defensively, Damion Harmon was your best player.
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, staying in front of guys, poking balls loose, uh, drawing charges.
- 33:07SPEAKER_04: Uh, I he was the he this is if this is Davion Harman that we get the rest of the year, that's scary for other teams.
- 33:15SPEAKER_04: Um, and he's the perfect Rut Raider.
- 33:17SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's your energy guy, and he's also one of the best players on your team.
- 33:21SPEAKER_04: Uh, so really hype for Davion after that one.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: Um, I thought Boccio had his moments, obviously, what, six blocks in this game.
- 33:28SPEAKER_05: So basketball player.
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: The greatest basketball player of all time, Daniel Bacho, six blocks in this one.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: Um he has he is he's learning.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: He's learning.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: He's raw.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: He is.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: He's he's better than he was last year, but man, sometimes he gets the ball and you just see in his face, he's like, I'm gonna freaking go to the basket no matter what, right now, and then it's usually a turnover.
- 33:52SPEAKER_04: Uh, but no, I think bocho gets a little more experience.
- 33:55SPEAKER_04: He needs to calm himself down a little bit sometimes.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, but defensively, I think he's playing really well.
- 34:01SPEAKER_05: His and one was the goofiest thing.
- 34:03SPEAKER_05: It was goofy, straight goofy, the perfect bocho and one.
- 34:08SPEAKER_05: And the perfect bacho misses the free throw on top of it.
- 34:12SPEAKER_05: So it was of course.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: He knocked down two at the end, he knocked down two in a row.
- 34:16SPEAKER_04: Hype for hype for Daniel, uh, big bacho guy over here.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: Um, one thing I wanted to bring up.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: Um, now we'll talk about the freshman in a bit, but Jalen Tyson.
- 34:28SPEAKER_04: So Jalen Tyson looks awesome in spurts.
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: Like he looks like one of the best players, he looks like the best player on your team in spurts.
- 34:41SPEAKER_04: But then he just disappears.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: And I don't like that quality very much.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: Uh he's he's very passive sometimes.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: He just kind of sits in the corner on offense uh at times.
- 34:55SPEAKER_04: He still plays great defense.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: I'll give him that.
- 34:57SPEAKER_04: He plays really great defense all the time, but um offensively, you need kind of a go-to guy, and that's not gonna be Kevin O'Banner.
- 35:05SPEAKER_04: He's not a guy who really creates his own shot.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: Uh Davion Harmon might be.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, when Dawes gets back, he might be, but Boccho's not that guy.
- 35:15SPEAKER_04: You know, I don't think Pop's that guy.
- 35:17SPEAKER_04: Jalen needs to be that guy.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: And I would like to see him be a little more aggressive and a little more selfish on offense because he is a good player.
- 35:26SPEAKER_04: He has a lot of talent, and he's probably your NBA prospect on this team.
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: Him and Elijah Fisher.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: So I just want to see a little more from Jalen Tyson.
- 35:38SPEAKER_05: I wonder if it's like a confidence thing or a focus thing.
- 35:41SPEAKER_05: I wonder which one it is.
- 35:44SPEAKER_04: It's it's the beginning of the year.
- 35:45SPEAKER_04: It's guys are trying to find their role, they're trying to find where they fit in, you know, where to actually, you know, take their chances, where to kind of ease off a little bit.
- 35:54SPEAKER_04: And I would like to see Jalen Tyson take more chances.
- 35:57SPEAKER_04: And you know, he may he may have more turnovers because of it, he may miss more shots because of it, but I want to see him try a little more.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: Um, and we'll see.
- 36:06SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 36:07SPEAKER_04: This is again, it's early on, you know, uh, but during stretches, he looks like the best basketball player on your team.
- 36:13SPEAKER_04: And it and it's not close at in moments.
- 36:16SPEAKER_04: So um I I just I I hope in the these games coming up in Maui, or playing some really, really good teams, uh, that Jalen Tyson kind of has a little a little selfishness to him and and kind of shows who he is.
- 36:29SPEAKER_05: I agreed.
- 36:30SPEAKER_05: I I like you said I kind of wish he took those chances here, whenever the you know, they have a little more forgiveness in these games.
- 36:35SPEAKER_05: And you got games after Maui that he could do that.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's got I'm with you.
- 36:40SPEAKER_05: Uh, but I think you've heard it perfectly for sure.
- 36:43SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, the other guys didn't play that much.
- 36:45SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about pop.
- 36:46SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 36:47SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 36:47SPEAKER_04: Um, because a very, you know, uh uh in a Twitter account, people know.
- 36:54SPEAKER_04: Uh we won't say it, everybody knows it.
- 36:57SPEAKER_04: Um, there you know, had some pretty harsh things to say about pop.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, he he's been a turnover machine.
- 37:05SPEAKER_04: Uh these first few games, you know, a four turnover, five turnover, six turnover.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: It's been a lot.
- 37:10SPEAKER_05: Um his father speaks in riddles.
- 37:12SPEAKER_04: His father still speaks in riddles on Twitter.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: No one understands what he's really saying.
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: Uh but right now two things about pop.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: One, uh dude's a bucket, dude can shoot.
- 37:26SPEAKER_04: He might be he might be your best shooter on the team, and he's 18 or 19 years old.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: Um, second off, he's taking chances.
- 37:35SPEAKER_04: This is some I just talked about with Jalen Tyson.
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: Pop is taking chances, he is trying to learn the speed, the flow, the offense.
- 37:44SPEAKER_04: And yeah, sometimes he gets stuck and sometimes he makes the wrong decision, but he is trying, man.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: And that is all you can ask out of a true freshman who is starting in the Big 12.
- 37:55SPEAKER_04: So I don't want to hear any negative things about Pop Isaacs because that dude, I think, is going to be a baller.
- 38:02SPEAKER_04: And once he figures it out, once it clicks in his head, which I think it will towards the, you know, as the season goes on, he's gonna be one of your best players.
- 38:11SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, man.
- 38:11SPEAKER_05: I mean, just to see a freshman come out and be an absolute sniper and play with this sort of effort is great to see.
- 38:19SPEAKER_05: And you want to see that ferocity continue.
- 38:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think that's what makes uh Mark Adams' team so great.
- 38:24SPEAKER_05: Wherever players aren't afraid to just grind it out the entire game.
- 38:28SPEAKER_05: So I think he's got a really bright feature on this team.
- 38:30SPEAKER_05: It's he's a lot of fun to watch, too.
- 38:31SPEAKER_05: He brings a lot of energy on the court.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: He does, and he made some big plays at the end.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: He had that, I mean, he drove and got a butt late bucket, he hit a big three at the end.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's he's doing stuff that benefits your team.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: Yes, he has four turnovers, but he's doing a lot of other things that really benefit your team, and he's one of your real true playmakers that you have on your team.
- 38:50SPEAKER_04: Him and Davion Harman are kind of your guys you're relying on.
- 38:53SPEAKER_04: Um, so if you think Pop Isaacs is gonna lose minutes, I think you're wrong, my friend.
- 38:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, but yeah, excited for him.
- 39:01SPEAKER_04: Um still need to see more out of Elijah Fisher.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: He didn't get a lot of minutes.
- 39:05SPEAKER_04: Uh Lamar Washington made a lot of mistakes in the Louisiana Tech game, so he didn't play a ton.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: So uh it'll take time for these young guys.
- 39:13SPEAKER_05: And contrary to popular belief, maybe not maybe okay, contrary to unpopular belief, there is a transition whenever you move up in athletic levels.
- 39:23SPEAKER_05: It's wild.
- 39:24SPEAKER_05: There is, there's a reason why some players do and some players don't.
- 39:27SPEAKER_05: Transition to uh another point.
- 39:31SPEAKER_04: It takes time, dude's not gonna get it three games in.
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: Like what that was a brain dead take.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: And I you know, I kind of hate how much I I don't hate it, but I I you know, I have my thoughts and opinions about Viva.
- 39:47SPEAKER_04: I think a lot of people do.
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: I think they get a lot of hate.
- 39:49SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, people kind of pile on them.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I agree.
- 39:52SPEAKER_04: Uh, but that was a bad take.
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and uh we're allowed to make fun of the bad takes.
- 39:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, you can make fun of our bad takes too, and that's just we've had plenty of them, exactly.
- 40:01SPEAKER_05: So that's I'm with you, man.
- 40:03SPEAKER_05: People give them probably give them a little too hard of a time.
- 40:05SPEAKER_05: It's just a fan account.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: I mean, at the end of the day, yeah, we'll see.
- 40:07SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:08SPEAKER_04: Obviously.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: Um, Kerwin Walton is your sixth man.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, that dude is coming off the bench and he is playing 20 minutes, 25 minutes a night.
- 40:17SPEAKER_04: And I like what I'm seeing from Kerwin.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: Um, he is long, he is athletic, he is playing defense.
- 40:25SPEAKER_04: You talk to any Tar Heel fan from last year, they will say Kerwin Walton plays no defense.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: Uh, that dude plays defense and he stays in front of guys and he contests shots.
- 40:34SPEAKER_04: And I've been thrilled with him.
- 40:36SPEAKER_04: Um, and I'm I'm what I'm really surprised about is that DeMarian Williams hasn't really paved away for himself.
- 40:42SPEAKER_04: And I'm not saying it can't happen, but he's not playing a lot to start this year.
- 40:47SPEAKER_04: And that, and he seems, when he's on the court at least, he seems the most calm, you know, with everything.
- 40:53SPEAKER_04: He seems like he's thinking, you know, stuff's going on with his brain with some of these other guys that are just like, okay, let's go, let's go fast, let's go fast, let's make this pass.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: You know, he's kind of, you know, a little more, hey, let's slow it down a little bit.
- 41:05SPEAKER_04: And that might not be what Steve Green wants to do with this offense, and maybe that's why he's not playing a lot, but I want to see Demarian play a little more because I think he could be he could be a rotation piece.
- 41:15SPEAKER_04: So you want a guy that kind of pulls it back?
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: You're just talking about how you wanted some throttle down.
- 41:21SPEAKER_04: It's not, it's not like a it's not like pulls it back, he's just analyzing, you know, he's calm with it.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: There's a difference between guys that are just like, you know, like you look at pop or you look at Boccho, when they get the ball, like they want to freaking go to the basket.
- 41:35SPEAKER_04: And usually that ends up in a mistake.
- 41:37SPEAKER_04: Demarion's looking around and he's calm with it and he makes a nice move.
- 41:42SPEAKER_04: And uh I I liked him in the first couple games, and I'm a little surprised he hasn't got a few more minutes.
- 41:47SPEAKER_04: But um, I don't know.
- 41:48SPEAKER_04: Obviously, I'm not on the coaching on the coaching staff, so I don't see him in practice or anything like that.
- 41:53SPEAKER_04: But um, I'd be surprised if he didn't play more against these better teams in Maui.
- 41:59SPEAKER_05: Well, looking forward to seeing it, man.
- 42:00SPEAKER_05: I like I like it.
- 42:01SPEAKER_05: That's a pretty out-of-the-box take on him.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: So I I I enjoy hearing that kind of uh perspective on it.
- 42:06SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 42:07SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 42:07SPEAKER_04: Maybe I'm dead wrong.
- 42:08SPEAKER_04: Who knows?
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: Uh I'm just a guy.
- 42:11SPEAKER_04: Maybe I'm stupid.
- 42:12SPEAKER_04: I mean maybe I'm an idiot.
- 42:13SPEAKER_04: That's not a maybe, but but next up is Maui.
- 42:19SPEAKER_04: Uh, this is the best preseason basketball tournament uh or pre-conference.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Stacked.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Holy cow, it's a change.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: It's so stacked.
- 42:28SPEAKER_04: Um, which is good for us because our non-conference is terrible.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, so this will beef it up a little bit.
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: We're gonna play three teams for sure of this field, one of which is Creighton.
- 42:39SPEAKER_04: Uh, Creighton is number 10 in the country right now.
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: They have put up, I think, I think they put 95 points a game up uh in the last two.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, yeah, they can score.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: Um, they're they're very good, they're a big East team.
- 42:54SPEAKER_04: Uh Creighton always puts together a good program.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: Um, that's gonna be our first test, man.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: It's uh it's fun.
- 43:00SPEAKER_04: I'm excited for it.
- 43:02SPEAKER_05: So we're gonna see this really like high, high, high octane offense again.
- 43:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:06SPEAKER_05: So Mark Adams deep and sub and that is probably as good as it gets when it comes to college basketball.
- 43:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I uh I would think the guy to watch on Creighton is uh Baylor Shireman.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: He was the one of the big transfers in the portal, came from I think North Dakota State, could have been South Dakota State, one of the two.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: Um, but he's really good uh there at the forward kind of a guard.
- 43:27SPEAKER_05: Let's just say the Jack Bisons.
- 43:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there you go.
- 43:30SPEAKER_04: Jack Bisons.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: Um, but no, we're for sure playing them, and then we play one of Louisville or Arkansas.
- 43:38SPEAKER_04: Um, so I imagine if we beat Creighton, which would be a huge win, um, we would go on to play Arkansas because Louisville has been poor to start the year.
- 43:48SPEAKER_04: Um, and then you play one of Ohio State, San Diego State, Cincinnati, or Arizona.
- 43:53SPEAKER_04: And Arizona, as we all know, is a really, really good team.
- 43:57SPEAKER_04: Uh, Ohio State isn't ranked, but they're still solid.
- 44:00SPEAKER_04: Uh San Diego State is ranked, and then Cincinnati is kind of middling.
- 44:04SPEAKER_04: So I don't know.
- 44:06SPEAKER_04: You're gonna get three tests no matter what here.
- 44:09SPEAKER_04: And a trip to Hawaii.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: And a trip to Hawaii.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: Um this is one I really wish we had Fardas for.
- 44:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, I just want him to and him with the team to get that experience against other good teams.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: Um, but hey, you know, you can't always get what you want.
- 44:24SPEAKER_04: But um excited.
- 44:26SPEAKER_04: Excited to watch this, uh, watch this whole tournament.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: I'm excited.
- 44:29SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech is in this tournament.
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: Uh it's it's good, it's a good time of the year, man.
- 44:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, dude.
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: I I mean I I love watching us blow out these these uh lower programs, but dude, it does, it is kind of like, all right, let's let's see some real competition now.
- 44:42SPEAKER_05: So I'm excited to see I'm excited to see something real.
- 44:44SPEAKER_05: And it's I'm I think our guys are gonna show up.
- 44:46SPEAKER_05: And if not, we're gonna learn a lot.
- 44:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: And if we lose two, potentially three of these games, you still learned a lot, okay, about this team and what you're good at, what you're not good at, what you need to watch out because when Big 12 play comes around, you're playing these type of teams.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: So every night.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, every single night.
- 45:04SPEAKER_04: Uh so excited about it, man.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: All right, dude.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: What you got?
- 45:09SPEAKER_04: Song of the week to end her off here.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: All right, man.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: Driving out to West Texas, it's gotta be something to match that vibe.
- 45:18SPEAKER_05: I know I do this guy a lot, but he's one of my absolute favorites, and he has this uh song off his new album.
- 45:24SPEAKER_05: Uh, I'm gonna go with the the the album titled song from this album, Marathon by Drew Kennedy.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: It just nails that driving out to West Texas uh vibe.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: Marathon's a town out in West Texas that he's singing about, and you know, all the adjectives and stuff, they match what you're doing.
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: And I it's a great campfire sort of mystic vibe.
- 45:44SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: The pink silver dialing buys up all of the midnight and marathon.
- 45:57SPEAKER_04: The best type of music to drive to Lubbock with for sure.
- 46:02SPEAKER_04: Um definitely gives you like a euphoric tone.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: Bingo.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: I was in a different I was in a different mode when we were driving from Dallas to Lubbock last time where you had uh open road playing, and I was just like, I'm in a different, I am in I'm in a different world right now.
- 46:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, religious experience.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: It was it was good.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: Drew Kennedy rules, it's a great choice.
- 46:26SPEAKER_04: Um, my song of the week, because we're going to Maui, has to be a little island, a little beachy, you know.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: You gotta get in the in the mood, in the vibes.
- 46:35SPEAKER_04: Um When the Sun Goes Down, Kenny Chesney is my song of the week.
- 46:40SPEAKER_04: Because you gotta do it for an island tune, for a beachy tune.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: You gotta do Kenny Chesney.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, this is also featuring the great Uncle Cracker on this on this song.
- 46:51SPEAKER_04: Fabulous, fabulous Uncle Cracker.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: Uh, the great song When the Sun Goes Down, Kenny Chesney featuring Uncle Cracker.
- 47:00SPEAKER_05: When the sun goes down, we'll be grooving when the sun goes down.
- 47:07SPEAKER_05: Feeling alright when the sun sticks down.
- 47:12SPEAKER_05: Who names her son Uncle?
- 47:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, come.
- 47:16SPEAKER_05: It's just a weird move.
- 47:18SPEAKER_05: Great song, weird move.
- 47:20SPEAKER_05: Weird name.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: Who looks at that baby?
- 47:22SPEAKER_04: Who looks at that baby?
- 47:23SPEAKER_04: It says, I'm gonna name it Uncle.
- 47:25SPEAKER_04: Unreal.
- 47:26SPEAKER_05: That's just that was a weird move, mom and dad.
- 47:28SPEAKER_05: I'm not gonna lie to y'all.
- 47:29SPEAKER_05: Mom and dad, uh, Papa and Mama Cracker, I'm not gonna lie to y'all.
- 47:32SPEAKER_05: But great two.
- 47:34SPEAKER_04: Uncle Cracker disappeared off the face of the planet.
- 47:37SPEAKER_04: What happened to the city?
- 47:39SPEAKER_05: No one really noticed, Steven.
- 47:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and that's no one really noticed.
- 47:42SPEAKER_04: It wasn't it wasn't like he was dearly missed, but like he just disappeared.
- 47:46SPEAKER_04: Like, he hasn't been on any music since like 2006 or something.
- 47:53SPEAKER_05: Maybe he went to go off and raise just his little uncles, you know.
- 47:56SPEAKER_05: Where is Uncle Cracker?
- 47:57SPEAKER_05: I need to know.
- 47:59SPEAKER_05: So all right, let's put the question out to the to the treasured listeners.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: If anybody has any information about Uncle Cracker, please call the police.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: His family misses him and is looking for him.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: No, I whatever.
- 48:14SPEAKER_04: I like Uncle Cracker.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: Sue me.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: All right, long story short, favorite artist.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: Uncle Cracker.
- 48:25SPEAKER_04: Great song.
