- 0:21Speaker 1: the country. Talking with Tyler Booker, we talked about being
- 0:24Speaker 1: an IMG athlete growing up through that. What IMG offers
- 0:27Speaker 1: the head that this kid has on his shoulders. I
- 0:29Speaker 1: don't know if he fakes it in the camera, it's
- 0:31Speaker 1: a different off camera. It doesn't seem like it, but
- 0:33Speaker 1: it's incredible. We talked to him and Jalen Milroe both
- 0:36Speaker 1: about the culture differences between coach de Boor and playing
- 0:39Speaker 1: under coach Saban, the new wrinkles that coach de Boors brought.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Some fun stories about Coach Saban and Jalen Milroe as well.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Talking to him about how he was committed to Texas,
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Committee and going to Alabama. That's a funny process
- 0:51Speaker 1: some of his favorite moments. You guys are going to
- 0:53Speaker 1: love these conversations. If you're an Alabama fan and you're

- 1:02Speaker 1: we sit down with players to talk about the ins
- 1:04Speaker 1: and outs of their journey, why they chose their school,

- 1:23Speaker 2: Do you guys play the team from Friday Night Lights seven?
- 1:27Speaker 3: That's far away? That's that's out the way.
- 1:29Speaker 2: We played seven hours. I looked it up on the
- 1:31Speaker 2: drive over. It's a long way.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it ain't near me.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah what but why do I know the name? Katie Texas?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Like what I have any Doughton play that Katie High?
- 1:41Speaker 4: Oh yeah?
- 1:42Speaker 3: And then like Katie Katie High like a powerhouse in
- 1:44Speaker 3: Texas and they play like nationally and like they they
- 1:47Speaker 3: probably like one of the best teams in the country
- 1:49Speaker 3: really and so that's where they like get the you know,
- 1:52Speaker 3: like the yeah, a lot of light because like they
- 1:55Speaker 3: play with really good and then uh, we played them
- 1:59Speaker 3: actually in high schools. So when I was in high school,
- 2:01Speaker 3: we lost in them freshman year, my sophomore year, junior
- 2:05Speaker 3: would be to my senior year of high school. But
- 2:07Speaker 3: what's funny about it is that the last time they
- 2:09Speaker 3: lost a district game, I was in kindergarten. The last
- 2:12Speaker 3: time I lost a disc games. Like since then, they
- 2:13Speaker 3: been underfeeding district. And then boom, like they take off
- 2:16Speaker 3: from playoffs and like they either go to state or
- 2:19Speaker 3: like losing like the fifth or fourth round. So like
- 2:21Speaker 3: they're like they're like they're real good. Bro, yeah good, Yeah, that.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Is wild growing up in Texas.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Yep.
- 2:27Speaker 2: You obviously have the Longhorns there. I feel like everybody
- 2:30Speaker 2: loves the Longhorns. And you're going through your entire process, wow, Obama.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Uh, I'm being honest. During the process initially, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: the biggest thing you want to look out of your
- 2:40Speaker 3: family and like, you know, what is the best decision
- 2:42Speaker 3: for yourself but also your family, and you know, Texas
- 2:46Speaker 3: was the option, and it was the option staying close
- 2:48Speaker 3: to home, which is Houston staying there. Uh. And I
- 2:52Speaker 3: was committed to Texas for two years and the biggest
- 2:55Speaker 3: thing I had to get out of my way was
- 2:57Speaker 3: said in my next forty years in my life, not
- 3:00Speaker 3: just run about the present and looking at the future.
- 3:02Speaker 3: And when it came to it, you know, everyone's gonna
- 3:05Speaker 3: sell your dream. I mean to come here, we're gonna
- 3:07Speaker 3: develop you, and we're gonna put your position to do this,
- 3:09Speaker 3: this and this. But like not the the hard questions
- 3:13Speaker 3: are how you gonna set me to set up and
- 3:15Speaker 3: be provide for my family one day? Like that's the
- 3:18Speaker 3: biggest thing, you know. And then of course, you know
- 3:20Speaker 3: you talk ex's and o's and being developed and sometuff
- 3:22Speaker 3: like that. But Coach Saving, you know, during the process
- 3:27Speaker 3: with Coach Saving, I was committed to Texas, but I
- 3:32Speaker 3: was taking calls. I was answering people, and Coach Saving
- 3:35Speaker 3: with one of them. The one thing that stook out
- 3:37Speaker 3: to me was during the process of whatever, coach you know,
- 3:40Speaker 3: we were FaceTime whatever, and he told me, hey, like
- 3:44Speaker 3: during the draft when two gets selected, I'm gonna call you.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I'm like, man, you ain't gonna call me. What you
- 3:48Speaker 3: talking about? You anna call me? So what? So with
- 3:52Speaker 3: the whatever pick, Savan called me and said, hey, you
- 3:57Speaker 3: come here, this will be you the next So I
- 3:58Speaker 3: was a junior high scho it would be you in
- 4:00Speaker 3: the next five to six years. So I'm committing like
- 4:04Speaker 3: there's no question, Like I'm committing like nothing. Ain't gotta
- 4:07Speaker 3: sell me nothing. That's what I want to do. And
- 4:08Speaker 3: he's at the draft at the draft, so he's face
- 4:11Speaker 3: right right his face time, so I've seen his face
- 4:15Speaker 3: like he was like that. I'm like, man, I'm laughing,
- 4:18Speaker 3: like yeah, that's right. Nah, he was serious, like talking
- 4:21Speaker 3: about the bold face, talk about my next future and
- 4:24Speaker 3: you know what all needed to be done, all this stuff.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Then gave me like his dad talked. Then he gave
- 4:28Speaker 3: me the coach talking. I'm I'm like, man, like, this
- 4:30Speaker 3: is the place I need to be at and so
- 4:32Speaker 3: this is why I'm committed to Texas. So man like
- 4:35Speaker 3: I signed and committed. No one know that, but I
- 4:36Speaker 3: signed committed to Alabama like before I even posted it,
- 4:39Speaker 3: so like I would commit for Alabama like for a while.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And so shoot was like a little thing like that.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And then it was like talking about my future, talking
- 4:46Speaker 3: about why is this the best option to being developed
- 4:49Speaker 3: and stuff like that, and then the resources was wearing
- 4:52Speaker 3: the a like there's nothing like greater than that a
- 4:54Speaker 3: logo like like, I know you went to Michigan. I know,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I know all that good stuff, but like dog like
- 4:58Speaker 3: that a is special, or like you can be in
- 5:01Speaker 3: Paris and someone see that he didn't know what it
- 5:03Speaker 3: is like and then just the network and it comes
- 5:05Speaker 3: with it, you know. And so there's like there's a
- 5:08Speaker 3: lot of things that took place to you know, committing
- 5:10Speaker 3: here and being here. But I think that's one example
- 5:13Speaker 3: that I have that always be special.
- 5:14Speaker 2: When you get sorry ahead when you I just wanted
- 5:17Speaker 2: to talk about that silent commit for a second. Yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 2: so you got you get that phone call from saving
- 5:21Speaker 2: did you suldently go okay, I'm going to Alabama.
- 5:24Speaker 1: To him on the phone?
- 5:25Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, no, it's like like you hang the phone.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Oh yeah, most.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Definitely they wouldn't know. And then you had to go
- 5:33Speaker 2: up to them and slightly.
- 5:35Speaker 1: When you get off the phone and you're talking to
- 5:36Speaker 1: your family, what's that conversation taking place?
- 5:39Speaker 3: Well, well, the thing was that like to thinking through
- 5:42Speaker 3: you know, you don't want to make an emotional decision
- 5:44Speaker 3: during the process, and so you know, I'm talking to
- 5:47Speaker 3: them and I'm telling you, hey, I'm committed to Texas,
- 5:49Speaker 3: but like my options are open. And you know, my
- 5:52Speaker 3: biggest thing is when I decommitted from the school, I
- 5:54Speaker 3: wanted to commit automatically, so like I I didn't want
- 5:56Speaker 3: to decommit, and then I'm just I'm just sitting there,
- 5:59Speaker 3: like knowing no option because during my time, like a
- 6:02Speaker 3: lot of guys are committing quick, like every power you know, uh,
- 6:06Speaker 3: you know, big school in the country all had to
- 6:08Speaker 3: commit at every single school, and so like they were
- 6:11Speaker 3: waiting for that next quarterback in each class, whether it's
- 6:14Speaker 3: taking two quarterbacks or one quarterback. And Alabama was one
- 6:18Speaker 3: of the class the school that were only taking one quarterback.
- 6:20Speaker 3: So like they needed no answer because they'll go right
- 6:23Speaker 3: there at Louisana and go get them a quarterback. You know,
- 6:24Speaker 3: so they needed a quarterback and uh, you know, they
- 6:27Speaker 3: were vocal with that, but I think, you know, of
- 6:31Speaker 3: course I thought it through. My parents looked at it,
- 6:33Speaker 3: and so like that. And what I mean by signing
- 6:35Speaker 3: commit is like you tell the school you're committing to
- 6:38Speaker 3: them and say I'll figure out the rest of it.
- 6:40Speaker 3: So like my job is locked. Like when we look
- 6:42Speaker 3: at the class, like you're gonna have twenty five class,
- 6:45Speaker 3: Like twenty five people in the class all wanted them
- 6:47Speaker 3: part of Alabama. I told them like, hey, like I'm
- 6:50Speaker 3: thinking about coming here.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Like this, my Texas dropped the ball. The Texas dropped
- 6:54Speaker 1: the ball anywhere.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Yeah they did, you know, yeah, yeah, it was it was.
- 6:59Speaker 3: It was some things during you know, the process, that
- 7:01Speaker 3: was that I needed to look at the you know
- 7:04Speaker 3: that the best of my future. I think that was
- 7:05Speaker 3: the best. Yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Legit. Yeah sounds like you were just had a side
- 7:10Speaker 2: check and you were like, all right, cool, I'm gonna
- 7:12Speaker 2: date you.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Stay quiet here once I take care of that.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I look at me. I promise I'm gonna be with you.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Take us to your first couple of years of BAM.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I like getting to learn from somebody like Bryce Young.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:30Speaker 3: For me coming into college, it was a great opportunity
- 7:34Speaker 3: for me to get better. I think that was. You know,
- 7:37Speaker 3: people have different mindsets when it comes to cause me.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I want to play trade right away. I want to
- 7:41Speaker 3: be the best me when in any form of fashion.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I want to be the best gentle of Mirrod I
- 7:45Speaker 3: can be. Whether it was academics, whether it was getting
- 7:48Speaker 3: my body in shape to be in a position i
- 7:50Speaker 3: am today, whether it was having more knowledge of football,
- 7:53Speaker 3: I was trying to be my best me, and so
- 7:54Speaker 3: whenever my time was right to be on the field,
- 7:57Speaker 3: it was that time. And so I wasn't pressuring coach
- 8:00Speaker 3: to hey, play me, play me, play me. That's not
- 8:02Speaker 3: that's not my job.
- 8:03Speaker 1: You know.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I let my actions speak loud of my words, you know.
- 8:06Speaker 3: And so to speak about my time here, I think
- 8:08Speaker 3: it's been humbling, just the just the what all goes
- 8:13Speaker 3: into being an outdown quarterback, you know, and every form
- 8:15Speaker 3: and fashion. You know. We had different guys stepping in
- 8:18Speaker 3: the row of a quarterback, you know, going from you know,
- 8:20Speaker 3: Mac Jones, the two Jayalen Hurst, Bryce are all different.
- 8:23Speaker 3: All those guys are different, and it's okay. And there's
- 8:26Speaker 3: no certain right way to play quarterback position. Everyone's different,
- 8:29Speaker 3: you know. We look at the NFL. It's the same way.
- 8:31Speaker 3: The top guy in the lead might be different than
- 8:32Speaker 3: the thirty two guys, you know, and and it's and
- 8:35Speaker 3: that's okay. But to speak about my time here, it's
- 8:38Speaker 3: been great. It's been great to see what the resources
- 8:41Speaker 3: of the A and what it has, the people that
- 8:43Speaker 3: you meet along the journey. I met Michael Jordan there's
- 8:47Speaker 3: a few days ago to look at that. That's like,
- 8:50Speaker 3: that's like, it's been great. So it's been a lot
- 8:53Speaker 3: of positive more than the negatives I can say. And
- 8:57Speaker 3: it's been humbling and it's been a great experience throughout
- 9:00Speaker 3: the process. But for me, I just learned so much
- 9:02Speaker 3: about myself and so learn so much more that I
- 9:05Speaker 3: have in stored just being here and just mean a
- 9:09Speaker 3: lot of great guys.
- 9:10Speaker 2: You said it was such a humbly experience, Like you know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: if you're getting offers from Texas and Alabama and all
- 9:15Speaker 2: these other schools, like you've been the man since you've
- 9:17Speaker 2: put a football on your head, Like you've always been
- 9:19Speaker 2: the star at the star of the showunds, but I
- 9:23Speaker 2: see his shoulders, that's a warm upset. That's crazy. But
- 9:29Speaker 2: you like, yeah, you're you're the man, Like you've been
- 9:31Speaker 2: the man everywhere you've gone. Now you get to Alabama
- 9:33Speaker 2: and you're riding the pine for a little bit, you're
- 9:34Speaker 2: on the bench, and you're like if these talking about
- 9:36Speaker 2: the humbly experience, like at any point where you're like, i'
- 9:39Speaker 2: might have to get out of here. Maybe I made
- 9:40Speaker 2: the wrong mistake, Maybe I made the wrong choice coming here.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Was there a feeling like that.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I could truly say that I wouldn't change anything by
- 9:46Speaker 3: my time in college. I'm glad it happened. Everything that
- 9:49Speaker 3: took place where I've been in college, I'm appreciative of
- 9:51Speaker 3: it and it got me better. But to answer a question,
- 9:56Speaker 3: you know, I gave a commitment to my parents before
- 9:59Speaker 3: I left text and I told them I'm get my
- 10:01Speaker 3: degree from Alabama. I don't care what care what happens.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I don't care from the fourth string, third string, the starter,
- 10:06Speaker 3: no matter what, I'm gonna get my degree. And I
- 10:08Speaker 3: was blessed and fortunate enough to do that this past December.
- 10:11Speaker 3: So that's one of the accomplishments that I had. Now
- 10:13Speaker 3: I'm working on my mass so my parents don't get
- 10:15Speaker 3: my master from Alabama, and so it just little things
- 10:18Speaker 3: that I have for myself, whether a short song goal,
- 10:20Speaker 3: longsong goals. I know that I need to achieve to
- 10:22Speaker 3: be where I'm at in the future, and so there's
- 10:25Speaker 3: nothing that was going to take me away from that.
- 10:27Speaker 3: And so it just like little goals I have for
- 10:29Speaker 3: myself and just being determined and just believing in myself.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, you guys do a good job
- 10:34Speaker 1: with your young men with aspirations beyond the football field.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Congratulations on that too.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Appreciation.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Uh, you did have some adversity of you're on this
- 10:43Speaker 1: past year, you have the USF game comes up, you're
- 10:46Speaker 1: the starting quarterback. USF game happens, then you go to
- 10:50Speaker 1: a backup role. Talk about your process, trying to because
- 10:54Speaker 1: as athletes man, when you take an ego shot like
- 10:57Speaker 1: that or an ego hit, it's hard to like, you know,
- 10:59Speaker 1: it's the process, it's not the result. Staying and be
- 11:01Speaker 1: where your feet are. Hey, next opportunity is going to
- 11:03Speaker 1: consantly talk through that adversity for us until you got
- 11:06Speaker 1: your next opportunity.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, it was a process. I think that's one
- 11:10Speaker 3: of the greatest things that could have happened, was that
- 11:12Speaker 3: that that time right there, and I learned a lot
- 11:14Speaker 3: about myself, and I learned about how to truly go
- 11:18Speaker 3: get get through adversity. A lot of people can see
- 11:21Speaker 3: adversity and fear from it, and I change my perspective
- 11:24Speaker 3: and face everything and arise and throughout that journey, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 3: all I did was lean on my supporting cast that's
- 11:31Speaker 3: around me and not any external factors. Because when you
- 11:33Speaker 3: look at external factors, they can waver away from your goals.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And that's something that I took pride in. It was
- 11:39Speaker 3: not really looking at external factors and not worrying about,
- 11:43Speaker 3: you know, things I can't control. And during that time,
- 11:45Speaker 3: you can look at a lot of things that are
- 11:47Speaker 3: uncontrollables instead of the things that I controllable. What I
- 11:50Speaker 3: can control is my attitude around my teammates. What I
- 11:52Speaker 3: can control is how how long I'm in the film room.
- 11:56Speaker 3: I can control what I'm eating in my body. I
- 11:58Speaker 3: can control how prepared I am if I was going
- 12:00Speaker 3: a game, I can control you know, how great of
- 12:03Speaker 3: a teammate I am. Throughout the process. There's a lot
- 12:04Speaker 3: of things I can control in set of the uncontrollables
- 12:07Speaker 3: and the uncontrollable was the decision to benchment, and I
- 12:10Speaker 3: look at the controllable and I look at you know,
- 12:12Speaker 3: how can I benefit from from this situation? And to
- 12:14Speaker 3: look at it. You know, there's some things that I
- 12:16Speaker 3: did to improve as a player, improve my mindset, strengthen
- 12:19Speaker 3: my mindset, see who was truly for me and not
- 12:21Speaker 3: against me. So I learned a lot through that process.
- 12:24Speaker 3: But I can truly say that I'm glad it happened
- 12:27Speaker 3: I'm glad it happened. I'm glad it it took place
- 12:30Speaker 3: because they benefited me in the long run.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Blowing away, Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: It is wild. You and booked the way you guys
- 12:37Speaker 2: like set present yourself, the way you guys speak on everything.
- 12:41Speaker 2: It's it's truly impressive to look at. But you're in
- 12:44Speaker 2: a new offense. Let's keep with the with the interview going.
- 12:47Speaker 2: You're a new offense. Coach, de board comes in. What
- 12:50Speaker 2: do you see differently going in here? Because you have
- 12:52Speaker 2: a very unique skill set, like you're you're in a
- 12:53Speaker 2: very elite athlete. You see yourself slinging it a whole
- 12:56Speaker 2: lot more going in this fall.
- 12:57Speaker 3: I think I can do whatever I want where they
- 12:59Speaker 3: running throw it like I can do whatever I wanted
- 13:01Speaker 3: to do offense. So if I want to choose to
- 13:03Speaker 3: run the game, run the whole game, I can choose
- 13:05Speaker 3: to run the whole game. I can choose to throw
- 13:07Speaker 3: this game. I can choose to throw this game. And
- 13:09Speaker 3: I'm just very you know, confident on our coaching staff,
- 13:12Speaker 3: confident in what they see in the future as far
- 13:14Speaker 3: as our offense. But speak about coach the board. Coach
- 13:17Speaker 3: the board has been done a really good job in
- 13:19Speaker 3: the relationship aspect. You know, coach is going to coach,
- 13:22Speaker 3: whether it's tech, talking about offense, talking about defense, talking
- 13:25Speaker 3: about special teams. Coach is going to be a coach.
- 13:27Speaker 3: You know, that's their job is to be a coach
- 13:29Speaker 3: and influence us in a positive way, to get us
- 13:31Speaker 3: to be successful in whatever form or fashion they see
- 13:34Speaker 3: it as. But for me, I look at it as
- 13:37Speaker 3: he comes here. He doesn't know us, He doesn't know
- 13:40Speaker 3: us at all. But he took an initiative to get
- 13:42Speaker 3: to know every single player on the whole team, and
- 13:44Speaker 3: then he figured out who the leaders leaders of the
- 13:47Speaker 3: team was. In the same day that he got here,
- 13:49Speaker 3: he sat down all the leaders on the team and
- 13:51Speaker 3: he had a notebook, was writing taking notes of what
- 13:54Speaker 3: we were, the comments that we had about what the
- 13:56Speaker 3: standard is here, what is what is? What is? What
- 13:59Speaker 3: what makes Alabama about us? As people? You know, where
- 14:03Speaker 3: we're from, how many siblings do you have, you know,
- 14:06Speaker 3: what's your hobbies? All that stuff. On the same day
- 14:07Speaker 3: he got here the same day and from there I said,
- 14:10Speaker 3: maybe we got someone special. He truly cares about us.
- 14:13Speaker 3: He truly cares about the program in itself, you know,
- 14:16Speaker 3: and that was my initial thought process on coach to board,
- 14:19Speaker 3: you know, talk about the coach aspect of it. He's
- 14:22Speaker 3: offensive minded, so it's really good for me as a
- 14:24Speaker 3: quarterback to be under him. He does a lot of
- 14:27Speaker 3: great stuff on offense. You know, for me, I'm a
- 14:29Speaker 3: student of the game, so I like to look at
- 14:31Speaker 3: where he's been at and whatever quarterback they have is
- 14:34Speaker 3: really explosive in the passing game and does a really
- 14:36Speaker 3: good job on offense and you know with the concepts
- 14:39Speaker 3: and stuff like that and all the different things that
- 14:41Speaker 3: take place and with the with the offense. So that's
- 14:44Speaker 3: been great. And then also he's with he's withholding what
- 14:47Speaker 3: the standard is at Alabama. You know, it's a it's
- 14:51Speaker 3: a big program to step into and it just shows
- 14:53Speaker 3: who he is as a person to step in in
- 14:54Speaker 3: this leader role as our head coach. So it's been great.
- 14:58Speaker 3: It's been great to have him here and we're just
- 15:01Speaker 3: in May and we just all believe in them.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Well, same question that we have for Book, like him
- 15:06Speaker 1: sitting down and asking what the standard is here, asking
- 15:09Speaker 1: about leadership. The spots you've been in, you seem like
- 15:12Speaker 1: somebody who is very in tune with the you know,
- 15:14Speaker 1: awareness and being patient in times of adversity. What are
- 15:17Speaker 1: qualities to you that make a good leader.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I think the quality that you have to have is
- 15:24Speaker 3: you can't withhold so on into a standard that you
- 15:26Speaker 3: don't have a set for yourself. That's that's very important.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I think number two, I think you have to be
- 15:33Speaker 3: the same guy every single day. One day. He can't
- 15:36Speaker 3: be happy one day, he can be mad one day.
- 15:38Speaker 3: You can't be inconsistent of your habits and who you
- 15:41Speaker 3: are as a person. And that's very important. And then
- 15:43Speaker 3: you got to be driven. You got to be driven.
- 15:45Speaker 3: You got to be passionate. You know, It's it's hard
- 15:47Speaker 3: to be the man that's passionate and has goal set
- 15:50Speaker 3: for themselves because nothing that you can say, I can
- 15:52Speaker 3: say that can take this man's joy and what he
- 15:55Speaker 3: has set for himself and what he wants to accomplish.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I think that's very important to any leader. They had
- 16:00Speaker 3: to withhold themselves. So those three things or the fourth
- 16:03Speaker 3: things I mentioned, I love that.
- 16:05Speaker 2: With coach the board like uh just I mean, you
- 16:08Speaker 2: hear about saving and you know, intimidating guy. Everything was quiet,
- 16:13Speaker 2: You were quiet when the meeting room happened comes in
- 16:15Speaker 2: and they got music playing before meetings there. Doing music
- 16:18Speaker 2: at practice like that had to be like a culture
- 16:20Speaker 2: shock almost for you all. Did that takes for you
- 16:21Speaker 2: guys to get used to that?
- 16:23Speaker 3: I will say that was different, I'm being honest with you.
- 16:26Speaker 3: That was much different. You know. You know when Coach
- 16:28Speaker 3: Saving came in the room and you're talking, be quiet,
- 16:32Speaker 3: you see Coach Savings can come in here, you doing,
- 16:36Speaker 3: You see coach Coach, You see coach. You know that's
- 16:41Speaker 3: that's the initial thought. And so because the boy, I'm
- 16:44Speaker 3: gonna be real, the boy came in, everybody kept on talking.
- 16:46Speaker 4: I'm like, what y'all doing?
- 16:48Speaker 3: Everybody kept on talking. I ain't gonna lie. Everybody kept
- 16:49Speaker 3: on talking. They just laughed kiki ki uh and keeping
- 16:52Speaker 3: on the conversation. But nothing nothing negative but that just
- 16:56Speaker 3: you know, there's a difference. But uh, I'll say it's
- 17:00Speaker 3: just modern. It's just modern to what it is now.
- 17:03Speaker 3: As far as influencing the guys now in this generation,
- 17:06Speaker 3: is that aspect of the music that practice, allowing them
- 17:09Speaker 3: to be themselves on an everyday basis and not being
- 17:12Speaker 3: too tight, because when a guy is comfortable and free,
- 17:16Speaker 3: that's when you can get the best out of that player.
- 17:18Speaker 3: And so that's something that I'm seeing now is like, man,
- 17:20Speaker 3: like we're just cutting it loose, not being so tight
- 17:22Speaker 3: as we're on the field, as we're preparing, as we're
- 17:25Speaker 3: all together, you know, we're just I'm able to see
- 17:28Speaker 3: Guy's personalitymore. I would say that I'm able to see
- 17:30Speaker 3: that more. And now I'm able to see everyone really
- 17:33Speaker 3: enjoy the process and not be so hard on themselves
- 17:36Speaker 3: and not be on critical on themselves because all the
- 17:39Speaker 3: coaches are given the critical which what we do need,
- 17:42Speaker 3: but also the positive reinforcement behind it to get us
- 17:45Speaker 3: to have the right mental state to be on this
- 17:49Speaker 3: journey that' wrong.
- 17:50Speaker 1: What are some of your favorite memories with coach Saban?
- 17:53Speaker 3: My favorite memory, I'm being honest, Like my favorite memory,
- 17:56Speaker 3: I remember that practice. Man, I drive back in the
- 17:58Speaker 3: pocket there and over seven man they're covering. It's like nothing,
- 18:02Speaker 3: nothing's open. I'm talking about this double covered. You know,
- 18:04Speaker 3: they got the perfect call for our past concept down
- 18:06Speaker 3: the field, nothing's open, got a nice pass for us
- 18:09Speaker 3: from the defense, and I reverse out make a good
- 18:11Speaker 3: move when he falls down. I'm talking about you know,
- 18:14Speaker 3: I dropped him dog like it was a good move,
- 18:16Speaker 3: dropped him and be honest with you, spin out of it.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Dog took off, took off I'm talking about I clocked.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I ran afford to that play like I was. I
- 18:23Speaker 3: took off, took off man. I took off man. I'm real.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I was swinging the ball, swinging the ball like bad
- 18:29Speaker 3: balls security, bad boss security took off man. And you
- 18:32Speaker 3: know you can't hit the quarterback in practice. But I
- 18:33Speaker 3: kept on running. I kept on running, ran straight. I'm talking.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I finished on the opposite goal line right. Everybody hyped up.
- 18:38Speaker 3: It was like the end of practice, like at this
- 18:40Speaker 3: time the backup. So the ones go and the twos go,
- 18:42Speaker 3: and the twos get the last record every practice. So
- 18:45Speaker 3: I take off man. Everybody celebrating on our sideline, everybody celebrating,
- 18:48Speaker 3: everybody jumping up with me. Coaches, Man, what I get back?
- 18:51Speaker 3: I see this short man red as can beat Coach
- 18:55Speaker 3: Savan where a hat at practice? I didn't even see
- 18:58Speaker 3: his hat, Dog, I see his hair. Man, he ran
- 19:00Speaker 3: down there. Man cuts me clean out, said the ball
- 19:04Speaker 3: security for the boss Security, he said, could have discored.
- 19:07Speaker 3: He said, I ain't gonna see what he said. I said, Wow,
- 19:12Speaker 3: I said roll tired, I walk off. Yeah no, yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 3: that that's probably my favorite, mamor because i'malking about it's
- 19:20Speaker 3: the inder practice, you know what I'm saying. Everybody juiced up.
- 19:21Speaker 3: You know, it's competitive at the end of practice. Man,
- 19:23Speaker 3: it's fun like ones go too, go work. We're man,
- 19:27Speaker 3: it's competitive. You know, everybody's going hard balls at the wall,
- 19:30Speaker 3: like everybody's ready to go. So it was a last
- 19:33Speaker 3: rack and like it was good play because the last play,
- 19:35Speaker 3: you know, we scored. It was supposed to play. And
- 19:37Speaker 3: then man, he was hot. He don't care, but none
- 19:39Speaker 3: of that, he don't care what move I made, great decision.
- 19:41Speaker 3: I made details. Ball security. Ball security was key man
- 19:45Speaker 3: because one thing we talked about is the ball is
- 19:48Speaker 3: the team. So coach g a running back coaches ball team.
- 19:51Speaker 3: You're like, it's a simple thing, but it means a lot.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Boss Kitty is very important when it comes to winning
- 19:57Speaker 3: a football game. And we talked about the twelve percent
- 19:59Speaker 3: rule here at Bama, and when you're on that opposite
- 20:03Speaker 3: end of the sticks as far as turnovers and penalties
- 20:07Speaker 3: and stuff like that, you're less likely to win. And uh,
- 20:10Speaker 3: when we harp on that with the Boss security turnovers
- 20:13Speaker 3: and uh you know the penalty aspect of it at
- 20:15Speaker 3: practice because all of it is documented at practice, and
- 20:18Speaker 3: so it's very important. You know, that's me now mature
- 20:21Speaker 3: because at the time I ain't care what he was saying.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I said I made a good play. Yeah, and uh
- 20:26Speaker 3: so that you know, you got to mature in that
- 20:28Speaker 3: stage to understand what coach is talking about because it's gonna,
- 20:31Speaker 3: it's gonna you're gonna benefit from it with doing the
- 20:33Speaker 3: right way in the game.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah, with a Sabing Like every Bama player you talk to,
- 20:38Speaker 2: he's just like they talk about how infamous he was
- 20:40Speaker 2: for just the ass chewings he would give. Guys. You
- 20:42Speaker 2: got to get example there, like what's the worst ass
- 20:45Speaker 2: chewing you've heard Nick Saban given another player?
- 20:47Speaker 3: Okay, I will say this be real like initially like
- 20:51Speaker 3: coming to college, right, I ain't know how hard coach
- 20:54Speaker 3: saying what everybody talking about Harty was. But like one
- 20:57Speaker 3: phrase he said that like never still with me was
- 21:00Speaker 3: kiss my ass. That was just stuff like it was
- 21:02Speaker 3: kiss my ass Like that was just that was just
- 21:04Speaker 3: thing like you kiss my ass. Like I'm like, you know,
- 21:07Speaker 3: I'm yeah, we'll talk about you know what I'm saying, yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 3: talking about that's one thing that was that was his
- 21:13Speaker 3: favorite word. That's how you know he hat when he
- 21:15Speaker 3: say that and slam his hat. Oh yeah, you got
- 21:17Speaker 3: him today, Like he intens the rest of the day.
- 21:19Speaker 3: If you hit you with that and walk through we
- 21:21Speaker 3: walk through dog, we appear ad one and he say that,
- 21:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he's gonna be honest the whole day, the
- 21:26Speaker 3: whole day.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Have you guys ever had an ass shooting for missing class?
- 21:31Speaker 3: That's like one on one talk, Yeah, to get.
- 21:34Speaker 1: One because I always enjoy like you know you have
- 21:36Speaker 1: like a you obviously you have a great coach, like
- 21:39Speaker 1: I got to play for Coach bo Polini and I
- 21:41Speaker 1: feel like the fellas now that were removed from it.
- 21:44Speaker 1: You talk about all like the fun stories that you're
- 21:46Speaker 1: telling now, but that helped mold us to be who
- 21:48Speaker 1: we are. And you think about times like Coach Bow
- 21:51Speaker 1: would have us we had miss class and we're in
- 21:53Speaker 1: a team meeting and he's staying in each guy up
- 21:55Speaker 1: that a teacher wrote him an email on whether they
- 21:58Speaker 1: were sleeping in class or being lazy and last ye
- 22:00Speaker 1: and he would make each guy stand up and read
- 22:02Speaker 1: the note and he took this water bottle. He's like,
- 22:04Speaker 1: I didn't come here to go fucking nine and three.
- 22:06Speaker 1: He's like, I'm not here to babysits. You're either going
- 22:08Speaker 1: to do it all the time or you're never gonna
- 22:10Speaker 1: do it. You don't just show up on Saturday. So
- 22:12Speaker 1: I appreciate you sharing these stories because I know people
- 22:14Speaker 1: are probably watching, like, damn saved, it's crazy. Those are
- 22:17Speaker 1: like the things that mold you into you know, who
- 22:19Speaker 1: you're going to be and being successful like after.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Man, you know, I mean, everybody gets there asked you.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Hope was always a guy like if you missed it,
- 22:26Speaker 2: you'll have class checkers. Always when there's like probably one
- 22:29Speaker 2: guy that it's probably five to seven white dude. Every
- 22:34Speaker 2: every college has it. Every college has it, and he
- 22:36Speaker 2: sits there really good to see it. Yeah, God, he's
- 22:39Speaker 2: here again and he's always. We had the same dude
- 22:41Speaker 2: in Michigan do that, but our coach wouldn't like chew
- 22:43Speaker 2: us out in front of team. He's walking be like
- 22:46Speaker 2: six am.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Walk away.
- 22:48Speaker 2: It's a six am you're out there doing what what
- 22:49Speaker 2: kind of punishments y'all have to do here? Because we
- 22:51Speaker 2: well we had to do log rolls. Just lay down.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Yeah, do that?
- 22:57Speaker 2: Play pushes? What else y'all do?
- 23:00Speaker 3: Bear crawl? Uh? Shoot sleg pushes? Uh? Pop ups like
- 23:06Speaker 3: across the field each each five yard, like you do it?
- 23:09Speaker 3: Pop up?
- 23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's brutal.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Yeah you got, you got, Yeah, you got. Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 1: We had these Turkish gheit us. We're holding the forty
- 23:14Speaker 1: five pound plate and you're just one hundred reps if
- 23:17Speaker 1: you're late. Bro. Good time, yeah, good good times now yeah,
- 23:22Speaker 1: good time, yeah, good times. We had a dirty locker
- 23:24Speaker 1: room once after a game and he was coach Bo's
- 23:27Speaker 1: pissed that we didn't clean up. So we had to
- 23:29Speaker 1: do three hundred yards of pencil balls the whole team,
- 23:31Speaker 1: and they're setting orange cones out where everybody's throwing up.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Good times.
- 23:36Speaker 2: We used to have to wear red shirts if guys
- 23:39Speaker 2: weren't like following the standard, and a bunch of guys
- 23:41Speaker 2: they miss class or something happened, so we like my
- 23:43Speaker 2: senior year, they put us all in the red shirts,
- 23:45Speaker 2: every one of us. And I was full on drinking
- 23:48Speaker 2: the kool aid of like Michigan or die. I'm not
- 23:51Speaker 2: putting this on. So we let a revolt the seniors
- 23:53Speaker 2: with a revolt. We put all the show.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I can picture you leading a revolt. Yeah yeah,
- 23:59Speaker 1: put these up.
- 24:00Speaker 2: We all take them off, and you're proud of us,
- 24:02Speaker 2: you guys working like the team. Yeah that was that miracle.
- 24:04Speaker 2: But who do you play for?
- 24:05Speaker 3: The United States of America?
- 24:07Speaker 2: And like, all right, okay, guys are good. It is
- 24:10Speaker 2: crazy because some of the stuff you do now that
- 24:11Speaker 2: you hate when your husbands like me and Will, you're
- 24:14Speaker 2: gonna look back on and be.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Like, yeah, yes, take us to your last play of
- 24:21Speaker 1: the season. Yeah, you obviously have a QB design run. Yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you come up.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Time out, we get a code act time out. Yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 2: you guys go. Did you guys keep the same play
- 24:32Speaker 2: from the timeout?
- 24:33Speaker 3: I can tell you that. Man.
- 24:35Speaker 2: It's a different office, brother, it's a different office.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Zero. Hey great, Hey, So it.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Was a it was a design quarterback run with the
- 24:44Speaker 2: option to throw it out to the back. You had
- 24:47Speaker 2: the back.
- 24:48Speaker 1: But he's a he's a gamer.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I'm saying, here's my question. I'm glad you brought this
- 24:54Speaker 2: up because I really want to figure out a way
- 24:55Speaker 2: to get here. If that snap is right at your stomach,
- 24:58Speaker 2: are you throwing that out to the back?
- 25:01Speaker 3: I guess We will never know, all right, Kanye, But
- 25:04Speaker 3: I will never know.
- 25:05Speaker 1: If you were to answered like a yes, and at
- 25:09Speaker 1: the end of the day, you want to make a play, absolutely,
- 25:12Speaker 1: what do you think about what goes through your mind
- 25:14Speaker 1: when you think about that last play, because obviously you
- 25:16Speaker 1: can see the emotion on your face.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I'll be real like that truly made me really love
- 25:22Speaker 3: the coaching staff because to see how much they believe
- 25:24Speaker 3: in me. It is probably one of the most impactful
- 25:29Speaker 3: plays of our whole season. And the balls in my
- 25:32Speaker 3: hands the last play a game that speaks a lot
- 25:34Speaker 3: about our coaches that believe it in me, and so
- 25:36Speaker 3: I took it as a positive although we came out short.
- 25:39Speaker 3: But after that game and when I went back to
- 25:40Speaker 3: the hotel room, I reflected on the season, reflected on
- 25:43Speaker 3: the game that made me truly believe. That made me
- 25:46Speaker 3: like really see how confident they were with me. And
- 25:50Speaker 3: from that, you know, I remember I actually called coach
- 25:53Speaker 3: Reeese and told him a thank you, thank you. Yeah
- 25:57Speaker 3: we lost, man, but like, thank you, Shay. And when
- 26:01Speaker 3: when it went to the first conference after the game,
- 26:03Speaker 3: I had my head up high because they believed in me.
- 26:06Speaker 3: And that ain't the last snap, I'm gonna take up football.
- 26:09Speaker 3: So yeah, like, we want to win. We wanted to
- 26:11Speaker 3: win the National championship, you know, we wanted to We
- 26:13Speaker 3: had goal set for ourselves, of course, and this is
- 26:16Speaker 3: me speaking after the game. Of course, I had a
- 26:18Speaker 3: lot of emotion and I wanted I wanted to score.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I wanted to push our team to where we all
- 26:23Speaker 3: wanted to be at towards the end of the season.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Unfortunately we didn't do that. Do that. But it's like
- 26:28Speaker 3: the positive, you know, that's the positive that I saw
- 26:30Speaker 3: from him. Man, they believed in me so much, the
- 26:31Speaker 3: whole team, not just them. You know, no one when
- 26:34Speaker 3: Coach Reese gave us that play card one was like, man,
- 26:36Speaker 3: what why are you calling that? Everyone said that bet.
- 26:39Speaker 3: No one, not the off salon, at the receiver, at
- 26:40Speaker 3: the running back. No one had any hesitation on that face.
- 26:43Speaker 3: We just came up short. That's all it was because
- 26:45Speaker 3: like no one, I looked at everybody eyes. I looked
- 26:47Speaker 3: at everybody eyes, and I looked at him, and they
- 26:50Speaker 3: all confident. And that's all a part of the game.
- 26:53Speaker 3: You know, you win something, you loose, and unfortunately lost
- 26:56Speaker 3: that one.
- 26:57Speaker 2: It was a classic game.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was was Yeah, it was yeah what uh.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, but we we asked. When I was
- 27:12Speaker 2: at Michigan, we were asked, and so you guys were
- 27:16Speaker 2: always so good, and so many times Derek would tell
- 27:19Speaker 2: me how bad we were, and other Alabama guys can
- 27:21Speaker 2: tell us how bad we were, and so that was
- 27:23Speaker 2: a sweet moment. It wasn't instant classic.
- 27:25Speaker 1: It was a great game.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Everyone loved it. We were laughing because I was just
- 27:29Speaker 2: kind of staring off in the distance for a second.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Fee it was a classic.
- 27:33Speaker 1: It was absolutely it was done. I'm done.
- 27:36Speaker 3: That's good, okay, because it's all good and I respect it.
- 27:42Speaker 2: What can we What can you think Michigan cheated?
- 27:44Speaker 3: Huh? Do you think they won? They won? They won,
- 27:49Speaker 3: they got it.
- 27:50Speaker 1: They had your calls.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Huh they won, No matter they won.
- 27:53Speaker 1: They won.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yes, Will, Will, he's the worst best friend. Actually asked
- 27:59Speaker 2: for congra.
- 28:04Speaker 4: We beat.
- 28:04Speaker 2: He would do the rasta. We played and we beat
- 28:06Speaker 2: them forty two to seven. And then when the whole
- 28:08Speaker 2: cheating scale came out, he goes, I knew something was up.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, book the generation Michigan beat us this year.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Not when not my senior year. Yeah, just when Taylor
- 28:23Speaker 1: and I played against each other.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Don't pat my back like that. What happened to you before?
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yo? Y'all sved this? Yes? Yeah, yeah, we were terrible.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Then what can we What can we expect out of
- 28:38Speaker 1: the Alabama Crimson Tide this year?
- 28:40Speaker 3: I think really driven, we're starving, and we're really passionate
- 28:47Speaker 3: about each other. That's how I can sympathy this football
- 28:51Speaker 3: team is those three things right there. And you know,
- 28:55Speaker 3: we have goal set for ourselves that we want to accomplish,
- 28:57Speaker 3: but we we acknowledge those to take place right now.
- 29:00Speaker 3: What we're doing right now? What are the habits that
- 29:03Speaker 3: we have right now? I think that's that's something that's
- 29:06Speaker 3: super exciting because we're nowhere near where we want to
- 29:09Speaker 3: be at and we acknowledge that, and we're excited for
- 29:11Speaker 3: what the future hold because we have a lot of
- 29:13Speaker 3: tests in front of us, and so we're just gonna
- 29:15Speaker 3: embrace it and enjoy the journey.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Who's an NFL player you see out there that you
- 29:20Speaker 1: would love to play with one day, that you love
- 29:24Speaker 1: to throw the rock too?
- 29:27Speaker 3: I ain't really looked at that place. I think I
- 29:33Speaker 3: don't really got one.
- 29:34Speaker 1: You don't got one, You don't got you don't got
- 29:36Speaker 1: catch you watching the league.
- 29:37Speaker 3: I'm not watching everybody Like for me, like I respect game.
- 29:40Speaker 3: So like every starting quarterback to start for each team,
- 29:43Speaker 3: I respect the respect them because it was a journey
- 29:45Speaker 3: to get them to word they or that. Nothing was
- 29:47Speaker 3: given to an nothing was handed to them. They they
- 29:48Speaker 3: had to earn it. And so for everybody that's the
- 29:51Speaker 3: starting quarterback in the NFL, I look at their game
- 29:54Speaker 3: and that's something that I want to be one day.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Who are your top three favorite quarterbacks in the NFL?
- 30:02Speaker 3: Uh Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Rogers.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Okay, Joey b Oh Yeah, I love Joey Bart.
- 30:14Speaker 3: I like I like them a lot. I like them
- 30:15Speaker 3: a lot. I like Joey b swag take the football
- 30:18Speaker 3: lot of I like his swag like different. I like that.
- 30:22Speaker 3: I like how you move on the field like that
- 30:23Speaker 3: a lot.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Who's the swaggiest dude on the team Swaggers?
- 30:28Speaker 3: I probably give it to the dvs. The DB's probably
- 30:30Speaker 3: got the most swag, most drip, you know, they wearing
- 30:32Speaker 3: unnecessary stuff like during the game, like what do you
- 30:34Speaker 3: got that on for? They're talking about I put that
- 30:37Speaker 3: ship on.
- 30:39Speaker 1: We got to we're on a mission with Duke Cannon
- 30:42Speaker 1: there sponsor of ours to find the smelliest student the
- 30:44Speaker 1: locker room. In your opinion, who would be the smelliest
- 30:46Speaker 1: student in the locker room.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna be real, like I look at I look
- 30:50Speaker 3: at the blocks in the locker room. I'll block cleans.
- 30:53Speaker 3: I don't know. Like we keep it nice and clean,
- 30:55Speaker 3: smell good. We keep it nice and fabuloso around our lockers.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Would you guess?
- 31:01Speaker 4: Who?
- 31:01Speaker 1: Would you guess?
- 31:02Speaker 3: I don't hurt nobody feeling? On book?
- 31:06Speaker 1: You got thin skin? Who would you think.
- 31:12Speaker 3: What I'm saying? I heard nobody feeling? Yeah?
- 31:17Speaker 1: No, we we appreciate it. Man, Do you have anything else?
- 31:20Speaker 4: Book?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Was there anything that when we were talking to when
- 31:23Speaker 1: he when he went back on the depth chart, a
- 31:26Speaker 1: moment that you saw out of jailing during that time
- 31:28Speaker 1: where either you guys are rallying around him or something
- 31:31Speaker 1: that you saw out of him to keep him ready
- 31:33Speaker 1: for the next opportunity.
- 31:36Speaker 5: Wow, if you were watching the game, if you if
- 31:45Speaker 5: you only watched gentilely, you wouldn't be able to tell
- 31:46Speaker 5: that he wasn't playing like his energy everything about him
- 31:50Speaker 5: said that he was the guy and that's how he
- 31:51Speaker 5: carried himself and he was supporting the other two guys
- 31:54Speaker 5: that were in at the time. So yeah, you just
- 31:58Speaker 5: that that was really defined a moment for him as quarterback.
- 32:00Speaker 5: And everybody was bought into him and believed in him
- 32:03Speaker 5: before that, but I feel like that really just amplified
- 32:06Speaker 5: our trust in him after that moment.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I love it, man, Thank you answer Fellas, Thank you man.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Appreciate you.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Oky for the Michigan man.
- 32:18Speaker 3: You let me. Let me ask us some questions. Go ahead,
- 32:20Speaker 3: what is your most memorable moment in college? Each of you,
- 32:23Speaker 3: what's your best moment y'all had in college?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Pick six Georgia New Year, New Year's Day, they called
- 32:30Speaker 1: the New Year six games, right, they named it that.
- 32:32Speaker 1: They coined it that. After my pick six against Aaron
- 32:34Speaker 1: Murray and the Georgia Bulldogs, we went up thirteen and
- 32:37Speaker 1: thirteen to seven on at that point the end of
- 32:40Speaker 1: the game, didn't you know, reflect what happened in that
- 32:43Speaker 1: first quarter. But that was probably my favorite memory. I
- 32:45Speaker 1: could barely feel my body. Yeah, I read this screen,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I picked it off, took it to the house, probably
- 32:49Speaker 1: rant like yourself of four to two on the way
- 32:51Speaker 1: to the end zone, and that was my most hype
- 32:54Speaker 1: moment probably ever playing.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Twenty eleven, playing beating Ohio State one and three against
- 33:00Speaker 2: the Hoto State them. Yeah, in twenty years we beat
- 33:03Speaker 2: them twice. Yeah until his last three years. So that
- 33:06Speaker 2: I got one, that's awesome.
- 33:07Speaker 1: What about yours most memorable? It's been your favorite moment? Oh,
- 33:12Speaker 1: that's easy. For thirty one? Iron Bowl that's probably the
- 33:16Speaker 1: most favorite one. I'll give that was a good experience.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Is the Iron Bowl just crazy week of building up
- 33:21Speaker 1: to it?
- 33:22Speaker 3: I will say like for me, I didn't really understand
- 33:25Speaker 3: the Ironbol be real. I'm from Texas and I didn't
- 33:28Speaker 3: really get into is my opportunity to take a snap
- 33:32Speaker 3: in Ironbol? And like nothing, it's nothing that compares to that.
- 33:34Speaker 3: I will say, like that's something that that that rivaly.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I I could pete and say that's the that's probably
- 33:40Speaker 3: the best rivaly in the country.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a huge.
- 33:45Speaker 3: I'll say that because I mean to ask you this question, like,
- 33:48Speaker 3: while you're at Michigan, how often do you see Ohio
- 33:50Speaker 3: State fans as your neighbors.
- 33:52Speaker 2: They try to come try, they try a pretty good
- 33:56Speaker 2: bordered area exactly.
- 33:58Speaker 3: But while you're here, you're in test Loose, Your your
- 34:01Speaker 3: your neighbor might be an Auburn guy. And that's that's
- 34:04Speaker 3: within because how far premiere uh two and a half,
- 34:10Speaker 3: bout two and a half, And so that's that's the
- 34:12Speaker 3: thing within the you know, the rivalry and stuff like that.
- 34:16Speaker 3: And like even our professors like they might be an
- 34:19Speaker 3: Auburn grad. Like it's so you're gonna see an Auburn
- 34:21Speaker 3: person throughout your time during the season. So like you're
- 34:24Speaker 3: gonna it's gonna it's alway that competitiveness throughout the time.
- 34:28Speaker 3: And then whether it's at Auburn or whether it's in
- 34:30Speaker 3: Test Loose, You're gonna bring a great crowd. It's gonna
- 34:33Speaker 3: be loud, it's gonna be rocking, and there's nothing greater
- 34:36Speaker 3: than being victorious in the game.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're not gonna see it high State grad.
- 34:43Speaker 2: It's not gonna You're.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Not gonna see it into the game. On Saturday.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Dude, when you were talking with the iron Ball, I
- 34:48Speaker 2: live it. Do you not remember the last player of
- 34:49Speaker 2: the iron Ball? Oh yeah, Bro, it was crazy take
- 34:56Speaker 2: us to that place.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Register you said balls.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Like, oh god, I was. I was in the airport
- 35:05Speaker 2: watching that. I was like, oh my God, Auburn is
- 35:07Speaker 2: gonna beat Alabama. This is gonna be nuts.
- 35:09Speaker 3: My wife's like, why are you so hype over this?
- 35:11Speaker 1: I'm like, if you just saw these last several plays,
- 35:13Speaker 1: like you guys should have had no shot a.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Bro Like what four or five? How long ago was
- 35:17Speaker 2: that when they returned the kick that was We're not
- 35:19Speaker 2: gonna bring that up, but that was insane, Like there's
- 35:21Speaker 2: insane games. What was that? Like? What was that play?
- 35:26Speaker 3: Gagger?
- 35:27Speaker 2: It's called Bigger, Yeah, that's crazy. You we talk about
- 35:29Speaker 2: that play, but you were talking about four five play
- 35:31Speaker 2: against Michigan. That's no But that that play though, were
- 35:36Speaker 2: you just throwing up a prayer? You were throwing up
- 35:39Speaker 2: a prayer? You practice it. You practice situational ball games.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I'd look at the ball you said, God.
- 35:50Speaker 3: No, Like i'mna real with you. Like it might sound
- 35:52Speaker 3: a cliche thing, man, but like we practice that thing
- 35:55Speaker 3: every single week. Like Friday, we had walked through and
- 35:58Speaker 3: we're very intentional when we do the walk through, so
- 36:00Speaker 3: there's no talking on the sideline, there's no joking around
- 36:03Speaker 3: if you're not if you're not on the field, you're
- 36:05Speaker 3: on the sideline watching and you know, we take those
- 36:09Speaker 3: walk through very seriously. We go through every scenario in
- 36:12Speaker 3: the game. If we don't do it right during walk through,
- 36:14Speaker 3: we're gonna do it all over again until we perfected
- 36:17Speaker 3: literally a perfect walk through. Every outcome of the walkthrough,
- 36:20Speaker 3: where there were special teams, offense, defense, leaving the huddle,
- 36:25Speaker 3: going substitutions. All that we work all that din the
- 36:28Speaker 3: walk throughs, and that's one that played the grave Digger.
- 36:31Speaker 3: We worked at Durren walk throughs on Fridays, and you know,
- 36:35Speaker 3: we didn't know when we're going to utilize it, when
- 36:37Speaker 3: we're gonna have to use it, but everyone was prepared
- 36:40Speaker 3: and it was just like the play against Michigan. You know,
- 36:43Speaker 3: that fourth fourth down play was equivalent to that fourth
- 36:47Speaker 3: and thirty one. You know, when we called that play,
- 36:49Speaker 3: no one was fearful of the play. No one was like, man,
- 36:52Speaker 3: why coach calling that play. Everyone was like, we were
- 36:54Speaker 3: all locked in all bet this, We're gonna roll with it.
- 36:56Speaker 3: We're gonna do it at the best of our ability.
- 36:57Speaker 3: And so when it came to fourth and thirty one,
- 36:59Speaker 3: the same is the fourth and five player.
- 37:01Speaker 2: We just we just succeeded on this one fourth That's
- 37:05Speaker 2: an NFL blitz numbers, everything of that verse and thirty dude,
- 37:10Speaker 2: but you when you threw that up, what were you thinking?
- 37:15Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, just you're you're you've got to just
- 37:17Speaker 1: be thinking, well, let's just see nah no, like hey,
- 37:19Speaker 1: we'll find out.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Like I just see the field very well, and I
- 37:26Speaker 3: saw he was one on one, and so I took
- 37:28Speaker 3: a shot given given, you know, put it a great
- 37:30Speaker 3: ball placement, because if I've put anywhere else, who's gonna
- 37:33Speaker 3: go either out of bounce, picked off, not in the
- 37:36Speaker 3: range that we can make a grab and beat him
- 37:38Speaker 3: and allow I be to make a make a IB play.
- 37:41Speaker 3: So I just put it in a place where he
- 37:43Speaker 3: can make a play on the ball. And I had
- 37:45Speaker 3: great time. They haven't. They didn't have a too strong
- 37:47Speaker 3: a pass for us, So I had enough time to
- 37:49Speaker 3: make a play. So when we talk about like everyone
- 37:52Speaker 3: doing their job, is that what happened?
- 37:54Speaker 1: What was the emotion in the locker room after that?
- 37:57Speaker 2: Insane?
- 37:58Speaker 3: Be real like like it was it was crazy, but
- 38:02Speaker 3: like you based off your head coach, Like yeah, you
- 38:05Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, Like if head coach happy jumping around,
- 38:08Speaker 3: you're gonna do the same thing. Like it was cool.
- 38:10Speaker 3: When it was like lock in all we got game
- 38:12Speaker 3: next week. Yeah, yeah, it was exciting for like like
- 38:17Speaker 3: fifteen seconds. You know, it was like boys, he was
- 38:20Speaker 3: having fifteen seconds.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Happy for you guys that.
- 38:21Speaker 3: You won exactly. You know what I'm saying. We had
- 38:23Speaker 3: Jordian next. Yeah, but we arbituation absolutely, yeah, we should.
- 38:28Speaker 1: There's a lot of correct on that.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not okay thirty one, that's okay. Yeah, it's okay.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Always coaching the process, yeah yeah, yeah, exactly, not the result.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Yeah, man, we appreciate it, bro, appreciate it.
- 38:39Speaker 1: It's been awesome, even great. It's pretty lot fun.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah, appreciate with us, Yeah, no doubt.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Subscribe, drop comments, Thank thank you, Jalen, thank you book
- 38:48Speaker 1: and thank you coach the board.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Like Tyler Booker, how are we doing, sir, phenomen I'm
- 38:55Speaker 2: doing out standing here in the great state of Alabama.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Ended up very prestigious. You know, diversity with a hog
- 39:01Speaker 2: life cannot be any better.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Face with the hall. Yeah, where else would you rather be?
- 39:05Speaker 1: Michigan?
- 39:10Speaker 2: That was these already shaking us. I went to Michigan.
- 39:15Speaker 5: That was that was goe that was yeah, yeah, I
- 39:18Speaker 5: hear you.
- 39:19Speaker 4: You have you got to live through the new guys.
- 39:21Speaker 2: I do, no question. Yeah when I played there.
- 39:23Speaker 4: I don't know what you did there.
- 39:25Speaker 2: When you were in middle school. When I was playing, Bro,
- 39:27Speaker 2: we were not good. It was tough deal.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Dela. We were walking in earlier this morning. I was like, yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 1: you know we we we whooped Alabama or whatever. I
- 39:34Speaker 1: was like, yeah, but you played Alabama too, right.
- 39:38Speaker 2: We played in twenty twelve Cowboy Classic. It was like
- 39:40Speaker 2: forty two to fourteen. They came out, They're like Derrick
- 39:43Speaker 2: Henry didn't play. I don't think Derek he was even
- 39:45Speaker 2: there yet, but they had like d Heart, all these dudes. Yeah,
- 39:48Speaker 2: it was just a slaughter fest.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And as a big ten guy, I was watching the game, like,
- 39:51Speaker 1: you know, you're like, come on, Michigan, let's go like
- 39:53Speaker 1: show them, show them that the big tall and then
- 39:55Speaker 1: you guys just it was over started.
- 39:58Speaker 3: It was.
- 39:59Speaker 2: But you you've had You've played a lot of different teams.
- 40:01Speaker 2: You've also played in high school a bunch of forty
- 40:03Speaker 2: year old men. When you're at IMG Academy. Yeah, who
- 40:08Speaker 2: was Yeah, Bro, Bishop Sycamore, this is Sycamore? What was that?
- 40:12Speaker 2: How that happened? How did they get that past?
- 40:15Speaker 5: The officials. That's above my pay grade. But I knew
- 40:18Speaker 5: something was up when I got out there. The guy
- 40:20Speaker 5: was like five to four. He woon number twenty seven.
- 40:23Speaker 5: He had like a full beard. I was like, okay,
- 40:26Speaker 5: this is different. And then they had like you know
- 40:28Speaker 5: how you put the quarters in the machine, you get
- 40:30Speaker 5: stickers out. They had those on their helmets instead of decals,
- 40:33Speaker 5: and I was like, okay, like like we're gonna run
- 40:37Speaker 5: up the score.
- 40:37Speaker 4: It's whatever.
- 40:38Speaker 5: Like we were in Ohio. We were there for a week,
- 40:40Speaker 5: so we were just looking forward to doing that. We
- 40:43Speaker 5: had a game at the next school. It's called lasal
- 40:46Speaker 5: that's where that's the that should have been an ESPN game.
- 40:49Speaker 5: But everything happens for a reason. Because that bitch of
- 40:51Speaker 5: the sycamore thing?
- 40:52Speaker 1: Did you know? But like before it came out, where
- 40:54Speaker 1: was it? Basically it came out, y'all, weren't surprises? Are
- 40:56Speaker 1: do you guys kind of know like why you're playing
- 40:57Speaker 1: the game? Like, yo, these are grown men out here.
- 40:59Speaker 5: So I was on the way to see my family
- 41:01Speaker 5: after the game and I was going to hug my
- 41:03Speaker 5: dad and he was shaking his head. I was like,
- 41:05Speaker 5: we just put up fifty on this team.
- 41:07Speaker 4: What's wrong? He said, I don't know.
- 41:09Speaker 5: I was listening to the ESPN broadcast and they said,
- 41:11Speaker 5: like they can't verify any of these players, Like they're
- 41:13Speaker 5: saying it was a fake school.
- 41:15Speaker 4: I was like what he was like, they're saying.
- 41:18Speaker 2: For forty year old men to relive a dream.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Yeah, pretty much. I don't know what dream they were living.
- 41:23Speaker 5: I wouldn't want to get beat by high schoolers, especially right.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Oh man, I hear you have quite the relationship with
- 41:31Speaker 1: our producer JP. He was your guy back at IMG.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that's my guy JP. Like, whatever we needed, we
- 41:37Speaker 5: hit JP. It was JP, Josh and it was two
- 41:40Speaker 5: guys named So those those four like they held us
- 41:43Speaker 5: down the whole time. The IMG is pretty rough. It's
- 41:46Speaker 5: they keep you locked down. So whenever we wanted to
- 41:49Speaker 5: escape JA, we hit JP one of those guys, and
- 41:51Speaker 5: we'd be out all day do whatever whatever we wanted.
- 41:54Speaker 2: JP was your chauffeur.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I be bringing pulled the van.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Yeah, pulled the van, get the guys in there, and
- 42:00Speaker 2: get out.
- 42:00Speaker 5: So getting the van was a hard part because they
- 42:02Speaker 5: were there were scheduled trips at IMG and then like
- 42:06Speaker 5: JP and all those other guys. They had a lot
- 42:07Speaker 5: of trust from like the higher up, So if we
- 42:09Speaker 5: could find a van, we were we were out.
- 42:11Speaker 2: What do you guys go do in Brandington? Because I
- 42:13Speaker 2: trained there for the combine? There is nothing there.
- 42:16Speaker 5: So there's a movie theater about down the street. There's
- 42:20Speaker 5: a mall about thirty to forty minutes away, and we
- 42:23Speaker 5: would just go walk around because we're at IMG. We
- 42:25Speaker 5: ain't had no time to have a job, have money,
- 42:27Speaker 5: so just go people watch at the mall and then
- 42:30Speaker 5: we get something to eat.
- 42:31Speaker 4: That was That was about it. But it was better
- 42:33Speaker 4: than being stuck on campus.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Campus is super nice. It's like five five hundred acres.
- 42:38Speaker 2: It's massive.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about the IMG because I mean i've only
- 42:42Speaker 1: I feel like it's grown so much, probably since you
- 42:45Speaker 1: were there. But what you got you just go is
- 42:47Speaker 1: that like a high.
- 42:48Speaker 2: School you just go to. It's essentially all in one.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Like Brandonton, Florida is like newly weds and nearly dead.
- 42:53Speaker 2: It's like the slow there's nothing to do there, but
- 42:57Speaker 2: like then there's all of a sudden, this amazing facility.
- 43:00Speaker 2: We're like every sport like people literally come from all
- 43:02Speaker 2: around the world to train there because it's like so nice.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Everything's so high tech and beautiful, and they're like, literally
- 43:07Speaker 2: when I was there, they're like, we're gonna put a
- 43:08Speaker 2: hospital right here, so everything's all in one. They had
- 43:11Speaker 2: everything you could possibly need. And I think the football
- 43:13Speaker 2: team is like just a year old or something like that. Yeah,
- 43:16Speaker 2: we're about to have like the greatest football team, the
- 43:18Speaker 2: greatest high school football team of all time. And they've
- 43:20Speaker 2: really you guys are what number.
- 43:22Speaker 3: One every year?
- 43:24Speaker 4: Yeah, pretty much.
- 43:25Speaker 5: And we actually won our first national championship my junior year.
- 43:28Speaker 5: And it was always pretty tough because like, not a
- 43:31Speaker 5: lot of schools want to play us, and understandably so
- 43:33Speaker 5: we picked the best talent from all around the country.
- 43:36Speaker 5: But you look at some of these other local high schools,
- 43:38Speaker 5: like this kid lives forty minutes away. This kid lives
- 43:40Speaker 5: an hour away. So what's the difference between I amg
- 43:43Speaker 5: us and y'all? So it got harder to find good
- 43:46Speaker 5: teams to play. But whoever wanted to play us, we
- 43:49Speaker 5: played them. I feel like modern day that was before
- 43:51Speaker 5: my time, so we always try to play them.
- 43:53Speaker 4: They didn't really want to.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Play us, but they're in Kelli right.
- 43:57Speaker 5: Yeah, they're on CALLI but just having that target on
- 44:00Speaker 5: your back every week, it's just like playing here. And
- 44:02Speaker 5: I felt like that's what made this this decision to
- 44:04Speaker 5: come to alban with. So, just like I was at
- 44:06Speaker 5: the pinnacle of high school football, why don't not come
- 44:08Speaker 5: to the pinnacle of college football?
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah? What was that process like for you? Because I'm
- 44:11Speaker 2: sure when you go to IMG, the minute they say, oh,
- 44:13Speaker 2: this kid got an IMG to play football, they probably
- 44:15Speaker 2: gonna throw a scholarship your way.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Oh for sure.
- 44:17Speaker 2: You had everybody who do like what he's a big
- 44:20Speaker 2: boy too. Yeah, I mean you look fantasticuts the house.
- 44:24Speaker 2: You could probably run like the wind. You're a specimen,
- 44:27Speaker 2: my friend. But when you had Alabama and all these
- 44:30Speaker 2: other schools, what's up with your top five? What were
- 44:32Speaker 2: your top five?
- 44:32Speaker 5: My top five was Florida, Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, and
- 44:37Speaker 5: Alabama obviously.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Was it? Was it an easy decision? Was this an
- 44:42Speaker 1: easy decision for you? Did you always want to Was
- 44:45Speaker 1: it always Bama or was it close?
- 44:46Speaker 4: It was really close.
- 44:47Speaker 5: I was kind of put off Bybama at first. It's
- 44:51Speaker 5: because they they started to recruiting me a little later. So,
- 44:54Speaker 5: like that the back of the my I always got,
- 44:56Speaker 5: like the simple graphics that they send everybody. I always
- 44:58Speaker 5: got the little camp in So I'm like, okay, I
- 45:01Speaker 5: have better relationships with other schools. But when they was
- 45:03Speaker 5: time to set up my official visits, Coach Gillespie he's
- 45:06Speaker 5: still here. He was like, Hey, are you coming to
- 45:07Speaker 5: visit us? In my head, I'm like, no, I'm not
- 45:09Speaker 5: going to visit Alabama. I'm going to go somewhere else.
- 45:12Speaker 5: And where were you thinking about going at that time?
- 45:14Speaker 5: I had a great relationship with Penn State, so I
- 45:17Speaker 5: was going to go there, and I was actually going
- 45:18Speaker 5: to visit them right before everything got shut down by COVID,
- 45:21Speaker 5: So I was like, I always wanted to visit there. Uh,
- 45:24Speaker 5: some of my homeboys have already committed, but I decided
- 45:27Speaker 5: to make that my last o V. And I felt
- 45:29Speaker 5: like that worked out perfectly because I was able to
- 45:30Speaker 5: compare all the other schools to the standard, which is Alabama,
- 45:34Speaker 5: and I saw nobody else really compare it.
- 45:37Speaker 2: No one else compared. So when you came here, like
- 45:40Speaker 2: what'd y'all do for your visit?
- 45:43Speaker 4: We just walked, we came around. I hung out.
- 45:54Speaker 2: That means he had a good visit, no doubt, no doubt.
- 45:59Speaker 1: I kind of can't remember.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Did Penn State know you were gonna comment? Did they
- 46:03Speaker 2: have a good idea that you were gonna Like, Hey,
- 46:04Speaker 2: did you tell any coaches like, hey, I might actually
- 46:06Speaker 2: come here?
- 46:07Speaker 5: So Penn State like I kind of took them out
- 46:09Speaker 5: after I decided to visit Alabama And it was funny
- 46:10Speaker 5: and like the day I got offered by Alabama, the
- 46:13Speaker 5: Penn State coach called me. He was like, hey, you
- 46:15Speaker 5: were still around. I was like, yeah, of course, but
- 46:18Speaker 5: he knew what was gonna happen. He knew it was
- 46:19Speaker 5: gonna happen.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 2: What was it like walking into this building? You see
- 46:22Speaker 2: all the national championship rings? You see I walked into
- 46:25Speaker 2: y'all's offensive line rope, and there's all American after all American?
- 46:29Speaker 2: Like that standard is so high here, Like, what was
- 46:32Speaker 2: the intimidation factor for you walking in as an eighteen
- 46:35Speaker 2: year old kid?
- 46:35Speaker 5: I don't think there was an intimidation factor, just because
- 46:37Speaker 5: I had already been through a lot. I've already seen
- 46:42Speaker 5: this kind of environment on lower levels. So just taking
- 46:45Speaker 5: you through my football journey. I was born and raised
- 46:47Speaker 5: in New Haven, Connecticut. I spent my freshman year at
- 46:49Speaker 5: Bergen Catholic in New Jersey just to get a higher
- 46:53Speaker 5: grade of football, and then I went to IMG. So
- 46:55Speaker 5: I'm used to change. I'm used to being put in
- 46:57Speaker 5: the fire, So coming here, I knew it was gonna
- 46:58Speaker 5: be a challenge, but ready to embrace it.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Being an upper classman. Now, what responsibilities do you feel
- 47:04Speaker 1: like you take on now being the young guy, having
- 47:06Speaker 1: those years behind you, and being more of a leader
- 47:08Speaker 1: in the locker room.
- 47:09Speaker 5: I feel like I stepped into that leadership role last
- 47:11Speaker 5: year when Bryson Will left, So that's something that we
- 47:14Speaker 5: really focused on spreading that the weight of leadership throughout
- 47:18Speaker 5: the team, and I feel like that's why we were
- 47:19Speaker 5: so much better. So being able to lead and know
- 47:22Speaker 5: I have guys that have my back like malachaim or
- 47:25Speaker 5: JC Latham, Dallas Turner, Jayln Menroe, all those guys, knowing
- 47:29Speaker 5: that they have my back, leading as a younger guy,
- 47:31Speaker 5: but still being a leader. Just going and going into
- 47:34Speaker 5: this year, I'm trying to develop some of the other
- 47:37Speaker 5: younger leaders on this team, because Alben was only going
- 47:40Speaker 5: to be as good as I leave it, you know
- 47:42Speaker 5: what I mean. So just like Taylor could talk about
- 47:44Speaker 5: how good Michigan is now and how they weren't that
- 47:48Speaker 5: good back when he was there. I want to be
- 47:51Speaker 5: able to brag like him, so making sure I'm developing
- 47:54Speaker 5: the next class.
- 47:55Speaker 4: So that's why I'm very big into recruiting, very good.
- 47:57Speaker 2: That's a good way to put it. I was a
- 47:58Speaker 2: big recruiter too. It did not pay off.
- 48:02Speaker 1: You got to you gotta respect it. He's abste What
- 48:07Speaker 1: are some of those small things you feel like, you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: trying to mentor those younger guys. Is it being more vocal,
- 48:13Speaker 1: is it more like one on one time with guys?
- 48:15Speaker 1: Like what do you feel like you've been trying to
- 48:18Speaker 1: develop being a leader.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Trying to balance out like being like in your face
- 48:24Speaker 5: and then like pulling guys to the side, making sure
- 48:26Speaker 5: like making sure I praise guys as much as I
- 48:28Speaker 5: correct them. And that's something I've really focused on this spring,
- 48:31Speaker 5: and just working with some of the younger guys, Like
- 48:33Speaker 5: you know what it's like working with a younger guy
- 48:35Speaker 5: and he's making the same mistakes over and over against
- 48:37Speaker 5: Like all right, bro, like you messed up on this
- 48:38Speaker 5: four times in a row. You're obviously not paying attention.
- 48:41Speaker 5: So I get on them and then I pull them
- 48:43Speaker 5: aside after and just make sure to be like, hey,
- 48:44Speaker 5: are you good?
- 48:45Speaker 4: Is everything good with you? Okay?
- 48:46Speaker 5: So now that everything's fine, I need you to tighten
- 48:49Speaker 5: it up. So just really making sure that they understand
- 48:51Speaker 5: before you lead other people, you have to lead yourself
- 48:54Speaker 5: and the man that you would want them to imitate you.
- 48:57Speaker 1: What do you?
- 48:57Speaker 3: Where do you?
- 48:57Speaker 1: Where did you learn that? IMG Academy imgcame? It was
- 49:01Speaker 1: it guys older than you, Like.
- 49:02Speaker 4: It was guy it was it was guys older than me.
- 49:04Speaker 5: But we actually had like a leadership class, Like this
- 49:06Speaker 5: is stuff that we did on a daily basis. So
- 49:08Speaker 5: we had like we had leadership sessions. It was called ADP,
- 49:11Speaker 5: right JP, It's called ADP. So there was like leadership
- 49:15Speaker 5: sessions and mental training things like that. So like something
- 49:18Speaker 5: I took from mental training at IMG is like visualization.
- 49:21Speaker 5: So like before every game, I put a towel over
- 49:23Speaker 5: my head and I emerged myself into the game that
- 49:26Speaker 5: I'm about to play, So like I think about what
- 49:28Speaker 5: my gloves feel like, how tight my paths are, what
- 49:30Speaker 5: the what's gonna spell like, what's gonna sound like? So
- 49:33Speaker 5: like I'm really in the game, and then I just
- 49:35Speaker 5: look at the script, see the play, run the play
- 49:37Speaker 5: on my head, next play, and I just go through
- 49:39Speaker 5: the whole script just so I essentially played the game mentally.
- 49:42Speaker 5: Now I just have to go out and do it physically.
- 49:44Speaker 5: So little things like that just helped me become the
- 49:47Speaker 5: player I am today.
- 49:48Speaker 1: You gotta get a had on your shoulders, bro.
- 49:50Speaker 2: You know, like the development you don't understand this, but
- 49:53Speaker 2: the development you have right now, as far as from
- 49:55Speaker 2: a mental mental process, is above and beyond right now.
- 50:00Speaker 2: It's very impressive. With Nick Saban, you came here, he
- 50:02Speaker 2: was the head coach, yes, when you heard the news
- 50:05Speaker 2: that he was retiring, Like, how did that affect you?
- 50:07Speaker 2: Because everybody came here to play with the greatest college
- 50:11Speaker 2: football coach of all time.
- 50:12Speaker 5: Of course I was hurt, obviously, that was my initial reaction.
- 50:15Speaker 5: I was just like, oh my gosh, Like I was
- 50:17Speaker 5: expecting him to come in there and kind of rip
- 50:20Speaker 5: us about the Michigan game, not so much RiPP us
- 50:21Speaker 5: to be like, Hey, this is why we lost, and
- 50:23Speaker 5: here's how we're going to correct it. Here's how we're
- 50:24Speaker 5: going to get back there and then get further. That's
- 50:26Speaker 5: what I was expecting, so for him to go up
- 50:28Speaker 5: there and retire, it was just it was really a.
- 50:30Speaker 4: Shock to me.
- 50:31Speaker 5: But I've just been embracing it because I'm I've always
- 50:34Speaker 5: been been big on legacy, Like how am I going
- 50:37Speaker 5: to leave my legacy here? And I feel like there's
- 50:39Speaker 5: no better way to leave my legacy than win the
- 50:41Speaker 5: national championship with coach Bowler.
- 50:43Speaker 1: When when coach Chapin does retire, does your intendance go
- 50:46Speaker 1: up on? Thinking, Hey, who's going to be the next
- 50:47Speaker 1: guy in here? Maybe I hit the portal? Now that
- 50:49Speaker 1: we're in the portal generation, the portal era, Well what
- 50:52Speaker 1: was that process like for you? I was just sitting
- 50:55Speaker 1: back and kind of observing he was going to be next.
- 50:57Speaker 4: Yeah, sit back and observe.
- 50:58Speaker 5: But to be honest, the portal was never it was
- 51:00Speaker 5: never an option for me just because I've i have
- 51:03Speaker 5: too many roots playing it here as far as like
- 51:06Speaker 5: my teammates and everybody in this.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Building and then this community as well.
- 51:09Speaker 5: So like I'm, like I mentioned earlier, like I've been
- 51:11Speaker 5: moving all around the place, all around since I was
- 51:15Speaker 5: even even in middle school. I didn't mention this. I
- 51:17Speaker 5: went to middle school an hour and a half away
- 51:19Speaker 5: I woke up at five o'clock in the morning. So
- 51:20Speaker 5: I've just been moving my whole life, and Tuscu Luise
- 51:23Speaker 5: has given me the first real sense of community in
- 51:26Speaker 5: my life, and I really wasn't willing to let that go.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Talk about your foundation, like, it seems like you have
- 51:33Speaker 1: good parents, good support if you're waking up at five am,
- 51:37Speaker 1: travel the middle school and kind of jumping around high
- 51:40Speaker 1: schools and then trying to get to IMG because in
- 51:43Speaker 1: their mind, your mind, this is the best These are
- 51:45Speaker 1: the best moves for success to have in your future.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Yeah, my foundation is really my immediate family. So I
- 51:51Speaker 5: grew up in a two point household, my mom and
- 51:53Speaker 5: my dad. I have a older sister and a younger brother,
- 51:56Speaker 5: and they like, just as how much I'm committed to
- 51:59Speaker 5: this that I'm living out right now, everybody else in
- 52:02Speaker 5: that house is committed to it as well, because it
- 52:04Speaker 5: wasn't just them. It's me doing the physical work, but
- 52:07Speaker 5: it's my mom also waking up at five o'clock, having
- 52:09Speaker 5: to change her work schedule to pick me up from
- 52:11Speaker 5: the bus stop. At bus stop at four o'clock, my
- 52:14Speaker 5: dad getting off a third shift, waking up early, taking
- 52:16Speaker 5: me to school sometimes taking me to workouts and then
- 52:18Speaker 5: my brothers and sisters having to sit in the car
- 52:21Speaker 5: all day waiting for those workouts to finish. So it's
- 52:23Speaker 5: just the commitment to this dream by my whole family.
- 52:26Speaker 5: That's that's what makes it so easy. That's what makes
- 52:29Speaker 5: that that's my why. They're my why.
- 52:30Speaker 1: That's amazing. That is amazing.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Yeah, from an offensive standpoint, how much has changed from
- 52:35Speaker 2: next shaving to coach the board.
- 52:37Speaker 5: I feel like it's gonna be a lot more explosive.
- 52:39Speaker 5: You're gonna see the ball in the air a lot more,
- 52:41Speaker 5: and it's gonna be like real complimentary football. So that,
- 52:44Speaker 5: I mean, that was the goal last year, but you
- 52:45Speaker 5: could see it in the way that close the board
- 52:48Speaker 5: costs his offense. So as soon as I heard that
- 52:49Speaker 5: he was the he was going to be the guy,
- 52:51Speaker 5: went back and watched the Texas game because that's a
- 52:53Speaker 5: mutual opponent that we had, and I saw how he
- 52:55Speaker 5: called the game and the and the rhythm of what
- 52:57Speaker 5: he called it and how he helps the office of
- 52:59Speaker 5: line out.
- 53:00Speaker 4: So we're not dropping back forty to fifty times a game.
- 53:02Speaker 5: We have run action, we have play action, we got power,
- 53:06Speaker 5: and we're going to throw the ball out of a
- 53:08Speaker 5: power set. So just how he switches things up, I'm
- 53:11Speaker 5: very excited to playing this offense.
- 53:12Speaker 2: His culture too, seems crazy, Like you look at Washington
- 53:15Speaker 2: last year and they played like I think more than
- 53:17Speaker 2: half of their games there were underdogs and they obviously
- 53:20Speaker 2: won all but one. And it's like to have that
- 53:22Speaker 2: kind of culture of like being underdogs consistently and coming
- 53:25Speaker 2: and winning. And now he comes to a place that
- 53:27Speaker 2: just constantly has talent, like you gotta think you guys
- 53:29Speaker 2: are gonna crush.
- 53:30Speaker 4: It this year, Oh for sure.
- 53:31Speaker 5: Just his energy is just everything that he brings, like
- 53:34Speaker 5: what makes him him is what makes him perfect for
- 53:37Speaker 5: this job. So the first thing that he told us
- 53:39Speaker 5: like he had non negotiables, and the first one is like,
- 53:41Speaker 5: we're gonna be a family, We're going to grow closer together.
- 53:44Speaker 5: And I feel like that was the biggest improvement from
- 53:45Speaker 5: my freshman year to my sophomore year, and there was
- 53:48Speaker 5: a bigger provement. I feel like we were a much
- 53:49Speaker 5: better team. And that's why coach Saban Ray is about
- 53:52Speaker 5: that team house. One of his favorites is because of
- 53:55Speaker 5: how close we were during the off season and how
- 53:57Speaker 5: close we grew together during the season. What times were tough,
- 53:59Speaker 5: like sef game was ugly, but instead of turning on
- 54:02Speaker 5: each other and pointing a finger, we all decided to
- 54:05Speaker 5: come together and be like, look, let's put that, let's
- 54:06Speaker 5: put our egos aside and understand how how great we
- 54:09Speaker 5: can be.
- 54:10Speaker 4: And we did that. From there on, we.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Just took off What what wrinkles do you feel like,
- 54:14Speaker 1: Coach the world is brought to Alabama from Washington, give
- 54:18Speaker 1: back into the uh the couple the wrinkles he's brought
- 54:21Speaker 1: because we talked about him bringing up the music and
- 54:23Speaker 1: everything else. What are a couple of things that he's
- 54:25Speaker 1: brought from Washington?
- 54:26Speaker 5: So music and practice and then like music before meetings too.
- 54:29Speaker 5: So I remember like it was his second meeting here
- 54:31Speaker 5: and I walked in they got they got a little
- 54:33Speaker 5: baby playing.
- 54:33Speaker 4: I'm like, what is going on?
- 54:35Speaker 5: Just coming from Coach Saving where everybody walks in you
- 54:38Speaker 5: So it's funny there there is just a big white
- 54:41Speaker 5: board and there's.
- 54:41Speaker 4: A little space so you can see Coach saving loie six.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Loafers walking in. Everybody goes to now coach the board
- 54:49Speaker 5: like hey, hey, hey, coach, how's everybody doing? So it's
- 54:51Speaker 5: just it's just the coach is different.
- 54:54Speaker 2: Yeah, polar opposite situation, size six loafer starts squeaking by
- 54:58Speaker 2: the door, everyone gets scared of. Oh ship, that is
- 55:04Speaker 2: a bit of a deal. How is from the blocking
- 55:07Speaker 2: scheme standpoint, is it different?
- 55:09Speaker 4: No, it's pretty much the same.
- 55:10Speaker 5: So I feel like the biggest difference this year is
- 55:12Speaker 5: going to be like the cadence of the play calls
- 55:14Speaker 5: because up front things are called differently just because every
- 55:17Speaker 5: officers line coach has a weird way of calling stuff.
- 55:20Speaker 5: But it's the same. It's still the same. It's on
- 55:23Speaker 5: our side on you'll do the.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Thing when you look at the board and then you
- 55:27Speaker 2: look back and you go, or somebody calling something.
- 55:29Speaker 5: No, we so since they have the mic in their
- 55:31Speaker 5: headphones this year, which is gonna be doing a little sugarhod.
- 55:34Speaker 4: On getting straights of the ball?
- 55:35Speaker 1: Oh for real?
- 55:36Speaker 2: Yeah, because everybody's helmet.
- 55:38Speaker 4: No, not everybody, just the quarterback, just a quarterback, which
- 55:40Speaker 4: I think is a great.
- 55:41Speaker 5: Yeah, certain schools picked up on those boards, so we
- 55:43Speaker 5: thought it wouldn't be a good idea to do that anymore.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Certain this guy, Yes, certain schools picked up on some things.
- 55:49Speaker 2: Now he can't ring and being nasty.
- 55:52Speaker 1: I'm a big way though. You give it. You do
- 55:58Speaker 1: give some good juicy quotes with the media. Yeah, I'm
- 56:00Speaker 1: gonna explain. I'm gonna quote what you said, and I
- 56:03Speaker 1: want you to go into this mentality. We want to
- 56:06Speaker 1: physically dominate you. We want to intimidate you. We want
- 56:08Speaker 1: the third quarter to roll around and the defense to
- 56:10Speaker 1: be like, oh my gosh, we can't stop the run.
- 56:12Speaker 1: How are we going to stop this run? We want
- 56:15Speaker 1: to we want to physically impose our will. Talk about
- 56:18Speaker 1: cultivating that mentality and being confident enough to speak on
- 56:22Speaker 1: all like that, especially to the media.
- 56:23Speaker 5: So that quote was really just me challenging myself and
- 56:28Speaker 5: the rest of the office with Lineman to be like, hey,
- 56:30Speaker 5: like I put this president out here, we have to
- 56:32Speaker 5: go live up to it. And Taylor can tell you
- 56:34Speaker 5: that's every office of Lineman's creed like you want to
- 56:36Speaker 5: go out and do that. We were just bold enough
- 56:39Speaker 5: to go out and say it, like I said, JC
- 56:41Speaker 5: said it so like we were just making ourselves live
- 56:44Speaker 5: up to that standard of playing office of line like that,
- 56:47Speaker 5: and that's that's how Alabama has been so successful in
- 56:50Speaker 5: the past. They just had a dominant office of line.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite post game meal, favorite ritual.
- 56:59Speaker 4: I have a favorite post game ritual.
- 57:00Speaker 5: So whenever we're home, they have buses driving back here
- 57:03Speaker 5: to the facility, But.
- 57:05Speaker 4: I like to walk.
- 57:06Speaker 5: I like to walk back just so like all the
- 57:07Speaker 5: fans who came to the game, Like I can interact
- 57:10Speaker 5: with the fans, you know, like just like some people
- 57:13Speaker 5: spend their last to come to an Alabama football game,
- 57:15Speaker 5: and I know this thirty second interaction I can have
- 57:17Speaker 5: with some family that's gonna last than thirty years, Like
- 57:20Speaker 5: they're never going to forget that interaction I have with
- 57:22Speaker 5: them after the game.
- 57:23Speaker 4: So I just love walking back.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I see what you like right over? See why
- 57:27Speaker 1: you like this? Yeah? Real, he say, hey, we got
- 57:33Speaker 1: to get book on, Like he's he'd be great.
- 57:35Speaker 2: When you're walking back from one of those games, how
- 57:37Speaker 2: long does it take you to get back to the
- 57:38Speaker 2: stadium or get back to the facility.
- 57:40Speaker 5: So it's not it doesn't take that, I probably say
- 57:45Speaker 5: because I'm stopping and signing stuff and talking to people
- 57:47Speaker 5: as well, So like probably say it takes like fifteen
- 57:51Speaker 5: twenty minutes. After the spring game, it was wild because
- 57:53Speaker 5: it was a free game, so so many people were there.
- 57:55Speaker 5: It got it got to the point I was like, look, guys,
- 57:58Speaker 5: like like listen, I'll walk and take pere, but like
- 58:00Speaker 5: we just got to walk because I still have my
- 58:02Speaker 5: knighbrases on. It was a spring game, so I still
- 58:04Speaker 5: have my neighbers on, still have my clissong. Like, man,
- 58:06Speaker 5: I gotta get back walking back like that.
- 58:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I was, I was.
- 58:09Speaker 5: I just love doing that, and then I get to
- 58:10Speaker 5: like talk to my family after too, you know what
- 58:13Speaker 5: I mean.
- 58:13Speaker 4: I just I just love being around there.
- 58:15Speaker 5: I feel like that's my favorite part about being that
- 58:17Speaker 5: a beam of that community, in that family with n
- 58:19Speaker 5: I l is.
- 58:21Speaker 2: The offensive line like as a group sponsored by anybody.
- 58:24Speaker 4: Not yet, but we're open.
- 58:30Speaker 5: Yeah we did. We did the beef jerky that that
- 58:32Speaker 5: did pretty well. We're gonna try to boost that up.
- 58:35Speaker 5: But looking for other stuff too.
- 58:37Speaker 1: What do you feel like sets this culture apart from everywhere.
- 58:39Speaker 4: Else under standards of excellence.
- 58:41Speaker 5: You have guys that you have a lum that will
- 58:44Speaker 5: come back here and tell us like this, this is
- 58:46Speaker 5: what the standard is. And they're alum that work in
- 58:48Speaker 5: the building, so you're always being reminded of what the
- 58:51Speaker 5: past was like and how you have to live up
- 58:53Speaker 5: to that and it's not. We don't see it as pressure.
- 58:56Speaker 5: We see it too. We see it as a challenge
- 58:57Speaker 5: and we want to create our own ligacy here, like
- 59:01Speaker 5: we want this team to have his own legacy here,
- 59:03Speaker 5: just like how their team had a legacy here and legacy.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Well, there are so many NFL guys that went to Alabama.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Of all those guys that are still in the league,
- 59:13Speaker 2: who's one dude you'd want to play with.
- 59:15Speaker 5: One dude that I want to play with, probably Evanil
- 59:18Speaker 5: And just because he's an IMG guy, we had a
- 59:20Speaker 5: very similar path. He was at IMG for three years.
- 59:24Speaker 5: He's in New York right now, so that's close to
- 59:26Speaker 5: home for me. So just playing with him and then
- 59:28Speaker 5: I pick his brain every now and then as well,
- 59:30Speaker 5: So just having that relationship with him and just looking
- 59:32Speaker 5: up to him, like I are really looking up to him.
- 59:35Speaker 2: What do you like when you pick his brain? What
- 59:37Speaker 2: does he tell you about the NFL con part to college?
- 59:39Speaker 5: He just tells he talks about the speed of the
- 59:41Speaker 5: game and how it becomes even more of a business.
- 59:44Speaker 5: So you just have to be prepared for that and
- 59:46Speaker 5: just make sure you have everything in order before you
- 59:49Speaker 5: get there, so nothing catches you off hard.
- 59:52Speaker 1: With everything you've experienced, with the support of your parents,
- 59:56Speaker 1: going to IMG, taking leadership courses, mental courses, visualization, all
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: that stuff, and being at a place like Alabama. In
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: your opinion, what qualities make a good leader?
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: Never ask anybody to do something that you wouldn't do yourself.
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: And I learned that before even was at IMG. I
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: learned that from coach Nunzio Capanelli. He was at Burghn Catholic,
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: so he recruited me to go to Burgon Catholic and
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: then I think he took a job at Ruggers. He
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: might be at Syracuse right now. But that that has
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: always stuck with me, just about being the leader, Like
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: how am I? How am I going to ask my
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: center to do something that I'm not doing myself? Like
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: how am I gonna tell him to play harder? And
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: I'm not even playing that? My heart is so just
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: like because you're you're you're holding yourself to that standard
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: and people are gonna follow.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: I love that.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Do you read books on leadership at all?
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: I did what you what you in Right now I'm
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: reading the book by Tony Dunge.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: I forget the name of it. I just started it,
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: but just meeting him. I actually met him at my.
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: Official physic in Oregon, so then he's just a legendary coach.
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: And my my dad's a huge football fanatic. So just
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: meeting him and just getting into that book.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Is is it the one where he's transitioning to Tampa Bay.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: No, it's it's called Uncommon that book.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Okay, a couple, Dude, does your family still live up north?
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: They do?
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: How often do they make it down all the time? Yeah?
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: So, my my little brother, he's playing football right now,
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: so my parents will alternate weeks when they so somebody
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: will stay at for his game and somebody will come
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: out here. But yeah, we make it work. And that's
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: that's the thing about us. So I don't think I
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: mentioned this earlier. My dad and I used to come
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: here for the Alabama of Football camps, the Next Tame
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: of Football camps when I was in middle school. So
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: we've always been committed to the dream, no matter what
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: it tooks.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: They're always here, always.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Been committed to the dream.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that is awesome. I literally I don't think i've
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: ever met a kid that's in college. You're a kid,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: you're an adult. But a guy in college that has
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: had a head on their shoulders like you do use
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: you seem like you really could.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Be smoke screens, you know what I mean. The you
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: know what I mean, but.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: You can believe like a scout, you find they're gonna
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: look like we don't. Character and leadership not a problem,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: an easy combine. Yeah, that's awesome. We appreciate you.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But on, man, I got one more question for you
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: at I m G. What's your favorite soccer field?
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: M hm hm.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Thank you guys, make sure you subscribe my stars.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Yeah, great, stars, Thank.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: You for coming on. It's been a lot of fun, bro.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Appreciate you.
