[SPEAKER_00]: Let's pray and get into the days episode.
• 0:30
[SPEAKER_00]: God, we thank you for our time together.
• 0:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Speak to us, we pray in your name, amen.
• 0:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Have you ever thought about the people that helped you get to where you are today?
• 0:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying you are where you want to be.
• 0:51
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying you reached all your goals.
• 0:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying you've achieved everything that you've set out to do, but have you ever thought about the people that play the part and help you at least get this far.
• 1:05
[SPEAKER_00]: That teacher that would encourage you when you felt down.
• 1:10
[SPEAKER_00]: How about that neighbor, right, that what oftentimes give you some tough love, even when your parents are your mom, they went around, you ever thought about that parent that went the extra mile, maybe they worked the second shift or another job to help you get a good education.
• 1:39
[SPEAKER_00]: that maybe it didn't work out, but they were a real blessing for you during that season.
• 1:45
[SPEAKER_00]: How about, how about, hey, have you ever ever think your kids for helping you get what you pray to God and ask them for, patience.
• 1:54
[SPEAKER_00]: And they've helped you become more patient.
• 1:59
[SPEAKER_00]: This past graduation season hit home for me.
• 2:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I had two nieces to graduate that this year, a niece from my sister, who I'd known from birth, the niece through marriage, who I've known, I was her pastor before I became her uncle.
• 2:22
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd take that out, right?
• 2:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And they both finished high school.
• 2:28
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting because I went to both graduations, um, had a wonderful time at both graduations went to both of their, um, I guess graduation dinners following their ceremonies.
• 2:45
  [SPEAKER_00]: Everything was fine.
• 2:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: Everything was great.
• 2:48
[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing that I walked away with is that they both.
• 2:52
[SPEAKER_00]: had the presence of mine to think everybody that they could think of, because sometimes you forget, and I get it, but everyone that they could think of that played a part in them getting to that finish line of high school.
• 3:08
[SPEAKER_00]: They had the presence of mine to say two words.
• 3:12
  [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
• 3:14
[SPEAKER_00]: You see in life, sometimes we find ourselves forgetting
• 3:20
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say our manners, but just the simple things in life that got us to where we are.
• 3:26
  [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes we forget, right?
• 3:27
[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things that that, you know, my family is real big on.
• 3:32
[SPEAKER_00]: It's trying to be sure, trying to ensure that we let everybody else know you appreciate it.
• 3:39
  [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
• 3:41
[SPEAKER_00]: You watched the dishes, thank you, right?
• 3:43
[SPEAKER_00]: You did this, thank you, right?
• 3:46
[SPEAKER_00]: It has to be anything grand, anything great and thing that's life changing, right?
• 3:53
[SPEAKER_00]: But just those two words, could make somebody's day, those two words could let somebody know how important they are because you're not
• 4:10
[SPEAKER_00]: But the fact that, hey, I've walked this earth, I've lived this life, who did I impact?
• 4:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And some people, you are, and I included.
• 4:20
[SPEAKER_00]: We may never know the amount of people that we impact it.
• 4:24
[SPEAKER_00]: You and I may pass away before we know.
• 4:28
[SPEAKER_00]: and realize, and I know this happens too, because I've been to enough funerals I have, I appreciate enough funerals to know that sometimes people don't come to the realization of how important that person was to them until they've passed away.
• 4:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: And that's a whole another episode.
• 4:49
[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes we find ourselves taking people for granted, sometimes on purpose in other times, not on purpose.
• 5:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, sometimes we find ourselves not taking people, I mean, so taking people for granted, because we don't realize how important they are until you sit down sometimes and reflect, oh, wow, this person talking off a ledge at much of time, this person gave from powerful wisdom, this person, but be that as it may, I want to invite you to get back to your
• 5:30
[SPEAKER_00]: resurrect those two words because this is short supply today.
• 5:35
[SPEAKER_00]: I want you if somebody is is kind if somebody does something simple as simple as opening a door for you at a grocery store or keeping a door open for you at a restaurant.
• 5:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: All right.
• 5:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know how to simply say thank you.
• 6:00
[SPEAKER_00]: When we learn how to just simply say, thank you.
• 6:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's funny because we often, I often hear people talk about the current generation.
• 6:13
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, this, I know it was a Gen Z, I think.
• 6:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Coming up is a Gen, I don't know, whatever.
• 6:19
[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of those Gen's, all right.
• 6:23
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, huh, the only way that I learned proper manners,
• 6:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't was in born with proper manners.
• 6:33
  [SPEAKER_00]: You weren't either.
• 6:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: You do know that.
• 6:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, people will say, oh, I was born for it.
• 6:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: No, you were not.
• 6:40
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, if you are Bible readers, the Bible says we were born in sin and shaping any nickel is nothing nice about us when we're born.
• 6:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: Born.
• 6:51
  [SPEAKER_00]: Let's learn.
• 6:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Let the cultivate parents have to do that for us.
• 6:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Whoever's in our life raising us, have to do that for us.
• 7:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: right.
• 7:02
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's it's it's it's oftentimes cringeworthy to think about that fact that we would blame children.
• 7:13
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know some people now let's let's let me put this disclaimer out here because sometimes I do know that we instill great things and okay it's and they go and act out.
• 7:24
[SPEAKER_00]: and do the exact opposite of what they're taught.
• 7:28
  [SPEAKER_00]: I do know that.
• 7:28
  [SPEAKER_00]: There's that happens.
• 7:31
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's not a... That's not fiction.
• 7:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's non-fiction, right?
• 7:37
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's the truth, right?
• 7:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes kids go out and they don't do what, they actually don't have any home training.
• 7:45
[SPEAKER_00]: But more often than not, as I'm privileged to walk alongside students and families
• 7:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: doing my work now.
• 7:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes kids are just not taught.
• 8:06
[SPEAKER_00]: And their parents haven't been taught.
• 8:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, so there's a whole gap that has happened where we expect people to know how to do things and they haven't been taught.
• 8:19
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm begging you because more things are taught, let's start modeling.
• 8:27
[SPEAKER_00]: but we expect young people to do as well.
• 8:31
[SPEAKER_00]: And to show a difficult, it's difficult for me to reprimand or to correct my son if I haven't taught him how to do something properly.
• 8:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't get upset if he doesn't know how to tie his shoes, if I haven't taken the time to teach him how to tie his shoes.
• 8:51
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't get upset that he doesn't know how to do whatever.
• 8:56
[SPEAKER_00]: If I haven't taken the time to walk him through what that looks like, some inviting you, right?
• 9:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: Do two things, right?
• 9:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, if you think about somebody who's had an impact on your journey, shoot him attacks, give him a phone call.
• 9:12
[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't life is fleeting, give him a phone call.
• 9:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Shoot him an email, whatever, tell him just thank you.
• 9:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for, it don't have to be long and elaborate.
• 9:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Just thank you for playing a significant role and a significant part of my life.
• 9:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And helping me, you may not even know how much your impact was.
• 9:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for helping me get to this place.
• 9:38
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to do a second thing.
• 9:40
[SPEAKER_00]: So you, you do it yourself.
• 9:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Then do your best to teach others.
• 9:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it's not a key, it's sometimes it's another grown-up dog, you've got to teach them some manners and how to be appreciative and how to be thankful and how to be grateful and to not just keep it inside, but to greet me grateful and to tell somebody that you're grateful for who they are, what they're doing in your life.
• 10:09
[SPEAKER_00]: the impact that it has made.
• 10:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I thank you for tuning in today.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to.
• 10:23
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but you are, and I'm grateful for it.
• 10:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Send this out to somebody who needs to hear a reminder about this manners.
• 10:34
[SPEAKER_00]: being cordial, being nice, being appropriate, right?
• 10:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And hope we all can get back to those two simple words.
• 10:43
  [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
