- 0:39Welcome to today's episode of The Hypnotist and today's very
- 0:44special guest hypnotist is Claudia Ricard.
- 0:47Claudia, welcome to the show. Thank you very much for having
- 0:51me Adam. It's an honour to be on here.
- 0:53Great to have you here. Obviously I've seen you at the
- 0:57conferences, particularly Hypno Thoughts Live a couple of times,
- 1:00and it was weird to bump into a Brit over in the over in the
- 1:04States. Tell us a bit about how you
- 1:05first got into the world of hypnotherapy.
- 1:10So it began. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised
- 1:13if I've always been doing it because I have been doing
- 1:17massage on people for a very long time.
- 1:20So I'm an aromatherapist. And when you are building that
- 1:25rapport with people, because you have to build a really good
- 1:27rapport with somebody when you are massaging a naked person, so
- 1:31they have to like know and trust you.
- 1:32And so yes, I've probably always been doing that.
- 1:35However, when I was doing the aromatherapy, I realised I was
- 1:38into helping people with their issues because of the oils can
- 1:43help with all sorts of things. And so then I went into
- 1:47counselling and I was did that for three years until I
- 1:53realised, oh, I have a choice. And actually, oh, that's
- 1:58probably why I was doing counselling because I didn't
- 2:01need to be in this terrible marriage I was in.
- 2:03So yes, that word choice was huge.
- 2:07So I then had to stop doing the counselling training because I
- 2:11was going through the divorce. And however, we roll on a few
- 2:15years and I still was wanting to help people.
- 2:18And then I found hypnotherapy, hypnosis and wow, and I started
- 2:25training in it. My son had had it for something
- 2:29and, and it worked and I was very curious about it and
- 2:33literally I fell in love with it.
- 2:34And, and of course, when you get to a certain age, you want to do
- 2:39really well and you love it. You get distinctions, you just
- 2:42carry on learning. And I've never stopped.
- 2:45That, that, that's it. And, and obviously you're very
- 2:49highly regarded. You know, nobody speaks at these
- 2:51big conferences unless they've got a certain level of
- 2:54credentials and, and, and really have an impact on the world.
- 2:58Obviously you got into hypnosis and I think what most people do
- 3:03is they explore different things and then they find something
- 3:05that really resonates with them. What's the thing that resonated
- 3:11most with you when it came to hypnotherapy and, and, and what
- 3:15now you would consider a bit of a specialism?
- 3:19It for me, it's always about significant emotional events and
- 3:24feelings, the things that have happened because in my opinion,
- 3:29people have various behaviours because of and they will do
- 3:34these behaviours to mask their real issues.
- 3:38So they may drink a lot more and it's a crutch.
- 3:43They may behave in a certain way, get angry because generally
- 3:46anger is based in fear. And I often find that's fear of
- 3:50not feeling worthy, not good enough.
- 3:53And there's always this story behind that.
- 3:55I'm not necessarily interested in all of the story, I just know
- 3:59that they feel it in their body and they will do anything to not
- 4:04feel that feeling. And that's.
- 4:05Why people have take drugs and hey, they don't even need to do
- 4:09something that's that we might consider is bad for them.
- 4:12They they may do risky sports, they may do a lot at the gym,
- 4:17they may work a lot. It's whatever it is for them.
- 4:21Yeah, the, the, these coping strategies, you know, and, and
- 4:25it's amazing how often like humans will go to extreme
- 4:29lengths not to fix the problem, but to find workarounds and, and
- 4:33kind of they feel away. They don't want to weigh, they
- 4:36don't want to feel. But drinking helps, food helps,
- 4:39you know, maybe it's exercise or something else, but it, it can
- 4:43be destructive. When I saw you in Hippo
- 4:47thoughts, you were doing a presentation around the Bunny
- 4:50talk process. Tell me how that came about.
- 4:53OK, so when you were a child do you remember playing shadow
- 4:56puppets? I do, yeah.
- 4:59But I mean, we would do just little things because it was,
- 5:02you know, it's like, oh, it's a shadow.
- 5:04And so I started doing shadow puppets with my daughter when
- 5:08she was very little. My husband was away in the Navy,
- 5:13so they're away for a lot in the Royal Navy, you know, 10 months
- 5:16at a time. She would get into bed with me
- 5:19and we would mess about and we played and we did mummy Bunny
- 5:23and baby Bunny. She particularly liked those and
- 5:27I taught her the days of the week, months of the year, simple
- 5:31maths, all sorts of things because, you know, it was like
- 5:35gets as a as a an adult, it can get a little bit boring doing
- 5:39baby talk all the time. But but in to be honest, she
- 5:43wanted to do it. So I had to get creative.
- 5:45Well, let's let's do something, you know, that will benefit her.
- 5:49So, as I say, we carried on. We did this for years, Adam,
- 5:52years and years, and it was our thing.
- 5:56And sometimes she would go to somebody's house and we would
- 5:58just do that and we knew what we meant.
- 6:01Now we rolled on. We moved to America because yes,
- 6:06I'm a Brit living in America. I live in North Carolina and we
- 6:10arrived in 2019. She does go to school, however,
- 6:152020, we all know what happens in America.
- 6:20The children didn't go to school for two years in our state.
- 6:24She was online for two years. And that was not great for her.
- 6:32OK. And she started to act out if
- 6:37you like. She was hurting herself.
- 6:40I blamed myself. I should never have brought her
- 6:42over to America. And there was one night she came
- 6:47through to my room. It was New Year's Eve.
- 6:50It. Was 3:00.
- 6:52In the morning and she was sobbing, sobbing.
- 6:57It was a horrible sob. I got out of bed.
- 7:01I got into bed with her and I held her and I said can you tell
- 7:04me what it is? And then don't ask me what made
- 7:09me do it, Adam. I got Mummy Bunny out and she
- 7:13got her baby Bunny out with a little ears down and she could
- 7:19tell Mummy Bunny what had happened.
- 7:22She couldn't tell me she could tell Mummy Bunny because Mummy
- 7:26Bunny always gave her unconditional love.
- 7:31Because when we were playing I never told her off.
- 7:33If she got something wrong, we just went, it's OK, just have
- 7:37another go. And we were messing about.
- 7:39And so that is exactly what I did again.
- 7:42And I knew to do that and it was very powerful because, and I had
- 7:47no idea that all that time ago when she was little, I had been
- 7:52anchoring. In.
- 7:54Safety, love and security, unconditional love, which is the
- 8:00most powerful. And she felt able to tell me
- 8:06what had gone on and we figured it out.
- 8:09And, you know, I, I didn't react.
- 8:12Mummy Bunny was very, very good. She, you know, and then about
- 8:17two hours later she said to me, I'm OK now you can go.
- 8:21I went, all right. So it was the the therapeutic
- 8:27value in that is, is enormous because you, like me, know that
- 8:33we were, she was able to dissociate it out of her.
- 8:37She felt safe to communicate that and she knew it would be
- 8:42OK. She felt safe.
- 8:45And then in her own head, she then knew it was OK to to be
- 8:51safe and say bye bye to me because we were going to figure
- 8:54it out. Absolutely phenomenal.
- 8:57And I was telling this to Cheryl Ellman, who we all know.
- 9:03And she said to me, Claudia, you've got to do something with
- 9:06that. So I did.
- 9:09And I wrote a book, A Parent's Journey and the Bunny Talk
- 9:12Process because I've had five children.
- 9:15So it's best practice for children when there's a divorce
- 9:17for step parenting. It's very quick.
- 9:20It's very easy to read. Wrote it.
- 9:23Wrote it purposefully in in short ways so that people would
- 9:27get it just like that, because parents don't.
- 9:30Have time to. Read, I know that.
- 9:33And and then the Bunny talk process is in there of how to do
- 9:36it. And yeah, so it's and I and I
- 9:39thought that was it. And then I spoke about it at
- 9:42Hipner thoughts and I had people coming up to me and saying
- 9:45you're going to make it into a course.
- 9:47And I said, well, no, because parents, anybody can do it.
- 9:51And they said, Oh well, if you don't, we will.
- 9:53And I went, no, it's my. Story So I made it into a course
- 9:59and yeah, because I do emotional intelligence for the parents
- 10:02anyway, I do see children and I thought, well this is how I see
- 10:05children. Of course the Bunny talk will do
- 10:06it. And I do eye movements and I
- 10:08just make them Bunny eye movements and and hey presto, we
- 10:12have a fabulous course and I am now doing it as well with my
- 10:18adults for in a child. It's absolutely brilliant and
- 10:23yeah, really good, really good. So it's a wonderful story
- 10:27because it it, it, it comes from real experiences.
- 10:31It was useful. And I think sometimes with
- 10:33techniques and, and protocols and, and all of that kind of
- 10:36stuff, we get lost in the sequence and, and, and the
- 10:40rationale and the science behind it.
- 10:41But fundamentally, does it help? Is it useful?
- 10:44And in that moment with your daughter, it clearly was useful.
- 10:48And I recall seeing you in Vegas and you were talking more about
- 10:53those with dementia and how useful Bunny talk is perhaps
- 10:57with those people that may not have, let's say, their full
- 11:04faculties when it comes to cognitive kind of processes.
- 11:07But somehow there is something in that that anchors a different
- 11:11state within them that makes it useful.
- 11:13Tell us a bit about that. You're absolutely right, Adam.
- 11:16So I said to my daughter as well, because she's now tells me
- 11:19everything. Everything because she knows she
- 11:22can. And I said to her, I said
- 11:25darling, I said, if I ever get dementia, I may forget you, I
- 11:31may forget your name, but will you talk to me with the bunnies?
- 11:36Because I will never forget the feeling of the Bunny talk.
- 11:41And you are absolutely right, because the body does somatisize
- 11:44that. And I know that I would remember
- 11:46that absolutely. And if anybody, if you've ever
- 11:50known Bob Burns, he's told his wife to speak to him with this
- 11:56one. So people will have their things
- 12:00that they've anchored in at home.
- 12:03It could be a film, it could be a certain photo album, it could
- 12:06be a cuddly toy, it could be whatever it is.
- 12:11And that they have. And that is their anchor into
- 12:15that stability of feeling safe because that is paramount for
- 12:21people. Because you can only imagine
- 12:22when somebody is living with a neurocognitive disorder, living
- 12:27with dementia, that fear is very, very big.
- 12:32And it's about bringing the person, making that personhood,
- 12:36making them big again. And if, if they have things
- 12:39around them, their, their identity that you can, their
- 12:44medals, especially, you know, things like that, then they will
- 12:48remember their identity, their cups they've won, certain items
- 12:53of clothing, they vacations, holidays that they've been on,
- 12:57they will remember. The feeling.
- 13:01That's incredible. And we're both speaking at the
- 13:05Irish Hypnotherapy Conference next year in April.
- 13:09For those never been to Dublin or never been to a hypnosis
- 13:13conference, tell us a bit about what you're talking about, what
- 13:15they can expect from you talking about and and when it is this
- 13:18conference. So yes, I am.
- 13:21I'm going to showcase the Bunny talk process and people will be
- 13:25able to see for themselves the benefits of understanding why
- 13:30it's so important to engage with the parents of the child.
- 13:34And so they will understand that because I'll I'll be explaining
- 13:37that. And then of course, I'll be
- 13:39telling the history behind it. Again, as I've already shared
- 13:42here, I'm going to ask for a volunteer and I am going to
- 13:47showcase the Bunny talk process because I have no qualms in
- 13:52anybody coming out of the audience and and we will create
- 13:56change, absolutely. Yeah.
- 13:59So I'm I'm excited for that. Yeah, and and the bit we haven't
- 14:02really talked about is similar to Bob Burns and the and the
- 14:05swan, you know it, I imagine. Do you, do you see idiomotor
- 14:11responses through how the the Bunny communicates?
- 14:15I I would just imagine that might be a possibility given
- 14:17that it's dealing with hands and fingers and those kind of
- 14:19things. That hasn't necessarily happened
- 14:22yet. And I know what you mean And and
- 14:25let's and I'm and I'm looking forward to seeing what else
- 14:28arises from it. I do anchor in the good response
- 14:33when somebody comes up with a good feeling that is anchored in
- 14:36and also the Bunny does take the bad feeling out the that is like
- 14:43conscious thing because I'm doing it the yes.
- 14:47And that is why, because people have said to me, well, Bunny
- 14:49talk and the swan, are they the same?
- 14:51No, because I agree. Bob's is literally is in my
- 14:56opinion, it is the idiomotor it's the subconscious,
- 14:59unconscious mind. What is happening when people
- 15:03are going into playing with the Bunny talk?
- 15:07They're going into a natural trance because children play all
- 15:13the time. And, and it was interesting
- 15:14because when I was seeing, when I see my adults, we get on the
- 15:18floor as well and we, we're playing like children and you
- 15:22can, And then one of them they said, oh, I want to sit back up,
- 15:25up. And then we did it and he went
- 15:27now I want to get back down again because he could see the
- 15:32benefit of actually, no, it was better because he went in more
- 15:36into his child and went more into trance with it.
- 15:39So it is all working on a probably that subconscious
- 15:43level. And it's so yes.
- 15:47But he felt two adults sitting up again on on the on the seat.
- 15:50Interesting. Isn't it because it had anchored
- 15:52a different time? And a lot of other therapists
- 15:58outside of hypnotherapy, particularly if they're working
- 16:00with small children in cases of abuse and things like that, will
- 16:04quite often use puppets and and toy animals for exactly the same
- 16:08logic as the Bunny talk. It's disassociation.
- 16:10It's easier to talk about what's happening to other things even
- 16:15than than it is themselves because it's, it's that one
- 16:17level disassociation. I, I think it's a fascinating,
- 16:21you know, and, and a very well needed protocol.
- 16:24You know, the hypnosis world needs it.
- 16:27You're going to do a bit of a hypnosis session for us because
- 16:31that's, that's what we expect on this show.
- 16:34But if anyone is curious to see Claudia's presentation at the
- 16:38Irish Hypnotherapy Conference that's going to be in early
- 16:42April, I'm going to put a link in the show notes that you can
- 16:45check that out. I'll be there talking about the
- 16:47fourth dimension as well. So if you want to see both of
- 16:49us, you can pop there to Dublin in early April.
- 16:52But now, Claudia, over to you for a bit of a hypnosis session
- 16:56for us. That's right and just allowing.
- 17:01Yourself now. Take a nice deep breath in.
- 17:03Through your nose. And.
- 17:08Out. That's right, And your eyes are
- 17:13feeling comfortably closed now. While you listen.
- 17:17To the sound of my voice, because the sound of my voice.
- 17:23Will help you. Will help relax you as you just
- 17:30drift off now, deep deep down into that wonderful place of
- 17:39relaxation. That place where you feel so
- 17:45safe, so calm, so deeply relaxed, and all the time
- 18:00breathing in positive thoughts and breathing out any negative
- 18:09thoughts or feelings. They're not needed, they're not
- 18:16required, they're not wanted. That's right.
- 18:28And allow all the muscles in your head to relax.
- 18:36Just imagine each individual hair follicle relaxing down, and
- 18:47the muscles around your eyes and your jaw, any tension you're
- 18:59holding there in your jaw, just let that all relax.
- 19:09And while you're listening to the sound of my voice, if you
- 19:16hear any noises inside or outside, they won't bother you.
- 19:28You'll just know it's the sounds of other people going about
- 19:34their daily business and that's fine because you're here with
- 19:41me, feeling safe, safe and calm and allowing yourself to go
- 19:52deeper and deeper into that wonderful place.
- 20:00Of relaxation, Deeper and deeper relaxed.
- 20:11That's right. And allow all the muscles in
- 20:18your neck. And your.
- 20:21Shoulders to relax and your arms and your forearms and all the
- 20:31way down to the tips of your fingers and while you're
- 20:39listening to the. Sound of my.
- 20:42Voice. If you need to shuffle about a
- 20:48bit or scratch your nose, that's fine.
- 20:55Do whatever you need to do in order to feel more and more
- 21:03calm, more and more at peace, more and more relaxed.
- 21:15That's right. And allow all the muscles in
- 21:21your chest and your stomach to relax.
- 21:27And your back and your lower back.
- 21:35And while you're listening to the sound of my voice, you may
- 21:44get a slight tingling sensation, just like little prickles in
- 21:50your head or somewhere else in your body.
- 21:55And that's fine. It just means that you're
- 22:01allowing yourself to go deeper and deeper into that wonderful
- 22:11place of relaxation. Deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 22:26That's right. And allow all the muscles in
- 22:33your buttocks to relax. And your thighs.
- 22:42And your calves and all the way down to the tips of your toes,
- 22:58just allowing your whole body now to go deeper and deeper into
- 23:08that wonderful place of relaxation.
- 23:15Deeper and deeper, relaxed. That's right.
- 23:30And now you're. Feeling so comfortably.
- 23:34Relaxed, nobody needing anything, nobody wanting
- 23:41anything, and absolutely nothing whatsoever for you to do except
- 23:51to relax and listen to the sound of my voice.
- 24:01And now I'd like your wonderful mind and imagination to drift
- 24:10off to that magical mystical place in your mind, that safe
- 24:16place of yours, whatever it is for you.
- 24:20There's no right or wrong in hypnosis.
- 24:24It's whatever it is for you, That magical mystical place,
- 24:30that safe place of yours where you can make positive lifestyle
- 24:36changes now. And now while you're in this
- 24:47magical mystical place, this safe place of yours, I'd like
- 24:54you to give yourself a gift. And it could be a gift around
- 25:02your beliefs or your values or something that you really want
- 25:08or desire right now. Make it a good gift.
- 25:18Make it a really good gift. That's right.
- 25:29And now I'd like you to use that wonderful mind and imagination
- 25:39of yours. To imagine a.
- 25:41Force field surrounding your body, protecting you and this
- 25:46force field acts like an emotional barrier or boundary
- 25:54and this force field protects you it could be your favorite
- 26:00colour with sparkles in it's whatever it is for you there's
- 26:05no right or wrong and this force field protects you because.
- 26:13You do not give. Other people's bad behaviour or
- 26:18their emotions. Permission.
- 26:21To change the way you. Feel and this.
- 26:28Can include your own. Negative feelings and emotions.
- 26:35You do not give other people's bad behaviour or their emotions.
- 26:42Or your own. Negative feelings and emotions,
- 26:46permission to change the way you feel.
- 26:55And there's an opening in this force field and it's where you
- 26:59breathe in. New learnings, new positives,
- 27:08new opportunities, new potential, new adventures.
- 27:22And it's where you breathe out any negative feelings.
- 27:27Images, thoughts, emotions. Or sensations that you've been
- 27:32holding onto. It's where you breathe out.
- 27:36All the old negative psychological rubbish that you
- 27:40no longer need. That's right.
- 27:53And now I'd like you to run a movie through your head.
- 28:01And this is a movie of you over the coming days, weeks, months,
- 28:08years, looking the way you want to look, feeling the way you
- 28:14want to feel, and doing all the things that you want to do.
- 28:21You have this gift. You have this force.
- 28:25Field surrounding you, protecting you because you.
- 28:27Do not give. Other people's bad behaviour or
- 28:31their emotions or your own negative feelings and emotions.
- 28:35Permission to change the way you feel.
- 28:40Make it a good movie. Make it a really good movie.
- 28:49We are the movies we play in our heads.
- 28:55We are the movies we play in our heads.
- 29:00Always play a good movie. Always play a good movie.
- 29:10That's right. And now in a moment, I will wake
- 29:19you and I will count from 1:00 to 5:00 and on five you'll open
- 29:23your eyes and you will feel amazing.
- 29:26In a moment I will count from 1:00 to 5:00 and on five will
- 29:28open your eyes with a big smile on your face.
- 29:31In a moment I will count from 1:00 to 5:00 and on five will
- 29:33open your eyes and you will feel really good for you.
- 29:38You have this gift. You have this force field
- 29:41surrounding you, protecting you because you do not give other
- 29:45people's bad behaviour or their emotions or your own negative
- 29:51feelings and emotions permission to change the way you feel.
- 29:54And you've seen yourself in a movie looking the way you want
- 29:58to look, feeling the way you want to feel, and doing all the
- 30:02things that you want to do. That's right.
- 30:08And so ready now. One 2, 3, 4.
- 30:22Five, open your eyes, big smile on your face, feeling really
- 30:26good for you. You have this gift, you have
