- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: Hello.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's a Wednesday.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: It really feels like a nice Wednesday, doesn't it?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's hump day.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's certainly hump day.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: This week went by so quickly.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: It really did.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: In the blink of an eye, it's almost like it didn't even happen.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't feel like Saturday night at all.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: No, not even in the slightest.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's certainly doesn't feel.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's very much a Wednesday and not a Saturday night.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not Saturday night at 8 p.m. No.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't just see Calbie Louisville.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that was ages ago, days ago, Michael.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we, that was a long time ago, yeah.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Big South everybody, presumably in the chats, Ronald Marty, I think is here.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: Cam is here.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Can he see her?
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, as you can tell, this is a prerecorded episode recording on Saturday night.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: We are currently out of the country.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're on a trip.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back on Saturday.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, we're literally flying
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: back to a light in the middle of the game, so we watch in the game on airplane Wi-Fi, which would be stressful.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see how that goes.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: But carcass Saturday night, later Saturday night, not immediately after the game.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: So keep an eye on that.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put we'll put a, um,
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: a little thing, a schedule a live stream on YouTube, Saturday night, so look for that, probably around 9 o'clock or so, to talk about the USC Iowa game, but today, right now, we are previewing it with what we know, let me see, let's just get right into it, SC and Iowa, uh, trousers meaning for the first time since the 2019 holiday bowl, the infamous
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: everything what's going so well and then it was going so not well his his career was never the same after that injury yeah yeah I know a lot of a c-fans look at that game as you know a game where uh... i will kick this he's asked they went forty nine twenty four but i urge people to go back and watch the game look at the stats and all that stuff
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: I would really could not stop S.E's offense when Keaton's lovers was in the game, but then he got hurt and everything, everything changed.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, that's the other part.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: And then S.E.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: gives up a, you know, there's a kick return, all that kind of stuff.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to do that, things go downhill quickly, especially against Iowa.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: This is an Iowa team that is
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: The most prototypical Iowa team you've ever seen in your life, really great defense, I mean, extremely Iowa.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Extremely Iowa, really good defense on offense that is called an offense.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: These are the rankings, the team rankings before the Oregon game.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Um, number one in the country on, uh, fourth down defense.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: Number one in penalties.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: They don't make a lot of mistakes.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: They're number one in punt returns.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to beat you on special teams.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: Number three in total defense and number 119 in total offense.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, that's a, that's a tough way to win games.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: But when you've got an defense, that good defense travels.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: They're going on the road, play the Trojans.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: SC has played similar opponents this year.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Nebraska, Northwestern, had similar profiles in certain areas.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the final boss of the, Matt offense, good defense.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: And Northwestern really fit this vibe after rail look at her, right?
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: The Nebraska did, yeah.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Nebraska, yeah.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: And the thing about the Nebraska game, too,
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: bad rush defense, but you lead to past defense.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: And this is an Iowa team that I think is very interesting with their defense and how they will match up against S.E.S.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: offense, but we're going to talk about the Iowa offense first.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go there.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Mark Grinowski is the quarterback transferred over from South Dakota states.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: He wanted to ask you a title a couple
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I believe so.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: He is completed 64% of his pastes this year.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: A thousand yards.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: Five touchdowns, four interceptions through nine games.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's looking, Jade and my Alva Tuesday afternoon.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's wild, right?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: But he's someone who can do it with his feet, 3308 Russian yards, 12 touchdowns, 12.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: He will run, he will run at the goal line, they will,
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: push him into the end zone and he will push every people into the end zone and pride into the end zone, all those things.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: So that is something to keep an eye on.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: The running game led by tomorrow in molten, 522 rush yards, two touchdowns, Xavier Williams, Patterson's another back that's there as well.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Receiving core, Sam Phillips, Jacob Gill, and the danger man,
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: is an incredible kick returner.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Credible kick returner, but he has 17 catches, 133 yards, and a touchdown.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: this season as a receiver.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a new volume receiving car.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you look at the tight ends of head injuries.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: DJ Vonam is the sort of the the most productive tight end at this point right now.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: 12 catches 170 yards.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: He caught a big pass in the Oregon game late in that fourth quarter that set up their drive to go ahead in the final minutes.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hayden large is the other one he's the titan who started against Oregon and sort of like filled in for for some injuries there, but like
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: is that the most prototypical I would name in the history of anything I would tight end yeah I I told a coworker that we need to remember for next year's off season to do a sometimes we do like an all-name team which is like the coolest names in in California yeah but I think that we need to do we need to do we need to do a
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: a an all-name team for like fitting name like an all-fitting name team and all nominative determinism team with the tight end Hayden Lodge and you know like um
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: like, um, who's the, um, there's a wide receiver with the nitro toggle.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Nitro toggle.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: There was a member, A&M had a guy named Speedy Neul.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, there's, there's a bunch of people out there with names that just, um, you know, feel like they suit their position.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that we need to go through and, and find them all.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: But Hayden large is,
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: is a large human being who has, you know, who's made some catches, and, but the funny, so I was looking this up.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: Now granted, the CFB stats haven't updated yet, so this doesn't represent the, like, receiving yardage or, or everything that, the numbers in our rundown are accurate.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, the numbers in the rundown are accurate.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: So against Northwestern, McCy Lemann had 11 catches for 161 yards, which is more than, uh, more yards than Caden, Weijan has all season.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: And his six catches shy of catching total all season.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Sam Phillips who leads Iowa and receiving yards with 216 has 13 catchers.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Lemon on Friday night had 11.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's it's crazy.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: But this is an offense that has an exceptional offensive line.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: All five starters have started all nine games, including Logan Jones and Jennings Dunker.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Both those guys first team preseason all big 10
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: The got a lot of hype before the year and they continue to be really damn good.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: This is the number one offensive line in terms of run blocking according to PFF in terms of pass blocking they are number four.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: They run the ball really easily because of that.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: But it's also not Notre Dame.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I, that doesn't mean that they're not going to have success.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: So let me explain this third.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: But they don't have Garamile up.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the thing.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's 37th pre-org and there were 37th in yards per carry, 38th in wrestling yards per game.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: Number one back, camarie molten, averaging five yards per carry.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: As a PFF run grade of 79.8, going into the Oregon game.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, good, it's a good running back.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: He is a danger man, but he's not as much as the of the danger man as S.E.S.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.F.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: When you really think of it, they face like the murderers' row of running backs in the conference, and then I'll continue next week when they go up to Eugene and play Oregon as well.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: But Michigan's Justin Haynes and Jordan Marshall, I think, better than molten.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Jeremiah, love and jadarian price from Notre Dame.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think it better.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: And at Johnson is better.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Caleb Komaloffeg from Northwestern Coinflip.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: He might be better.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's bigger poison there.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: The point is, though, it doesn't really matter.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: that he individually might not be the superstar when you're running behind an offensive line, that is that good.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a better offensive line than all of those guys, including the Notre Dame offensive line.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so he is just as capable of running for 160 yards, like Emma Johnson did or combining with the other backs, like Patterson Williams to run for 300,
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: They have an offensive line that will just play believable.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: Can I can I tell you how sexy it is to log in to PFF and look at the Iowa offense and the top six players on offense are all in the 80 range, so like they're approaching like the blue color and it's center guard, tackle, tackle, guard, tackle.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: including Jennings Dunker, by the way, so many I-O-A-E names, Jack Dulpser, Trevor Luck, Logan Jones, both Stevens.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: This offensive line is, is, uh,
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's very Iowa and it is really funny because if you gave USC or most teams in college football, this often's of line, they would do a hell of a lot more than average, the, what is Iowa, the 31-ish points that I was averaging this year, which is a vast improvement over previous year.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's aggressive for me, well, let's talk about that output.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: There, yes, they are scoring a lot of points.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: They are 53rd and scoring offense, 53rd, rather pedestrian, but like when you're Iowa, that's a big deal, right?
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is a team that's, you know, a couple years ago, the offensive coordinator had like a, a point total threshold to like get over, like this, there, there are things that they don't score points,
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: But they've scored a bunch of points this year.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Five times, they've scored 34 points or more.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: They scored 38 at Radkers.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: 37 at Wisconsin.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: 41 at home against Minnesota.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: All of those in Big Ten play.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Each of those three, though, greatly benefited from other parts of the game.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: Which if you're an, if you're an Iowa fan and you're looking at this, like that's the best part about this from the Iowa perspective is,
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: when your offense is not a lead offense, it is awesome to get the defense and the special teams to help them out.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to win in all three phases.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: You can't just be incredible in one.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: S.C. knows this very well.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: See the Notre Dame game, for example, right?
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: But you look at those games.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: They're against Minnesota.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: They scored on a pick six.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: They had a punt return.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: And they had two touchdown drives on short fields.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they won 41 to three.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: against Wisconsin, they had three touchdown drives on short fields, including one that started at the one yard line, a one yard touchdown drive.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: They had a never, never when they started the 24, they also scored a field goal after starting at the Wisconsin 28.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Force turnovers and get short fields and take all the pressure off the offense, right?
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, against Rutgers at a kickoff return for a touchdown and a short field touchdown after an interception, they also had a one-yard scoring drive in their win over Penn State.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: this is what they do.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I'd like to point out that like what they do is consistent and they do it against most opponents and USC is certainly not an opponent that I would look at and say like oh yeah USC will be immune to the quarterback throwing a pic six he might just cause a full of the goal line and you know bail himself out.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, U.S. he's not immune to the interception or a fumble return.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, U.S. he certainly isn't immune to the special teams, mishaps, that could result in an, in an opponent's scoring.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: So like, if you, if you're Iowa going into this game, I think you look at the matchup and say, like, yeah, our offense doesn't score a lot of points, but it doesn't really matter, you know, in the end, it doesn't matter where the points come from.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: We,
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: We find a way we figure it out.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: We we set up the offense as best as we can because the defense is as good as it is.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: So it's working for that.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean that they are
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: They are what do they say seven and yes, seven to their seven and two for a reason despite an offense that is certainly less than impressive, but they They're able to do that because most teams, most college football teams are actually pretty sloppy, most college football teams are actually kind of prone to special teams miss apps or having a quarterback throw it through an interception, you know,
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's a winning strategy if you're going to just accept that your offense is just going to be Iowa, you know.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, like obviously this is that you want the offense to be more productive, right?
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think a mediocre offense with this defense and with the defense.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: Would be an actual title contender.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, 100%.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like in a lot of ways, watching Iowa feels like watching 2002 Ohio State.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like Grinowski feels like Craig Crenzel to me.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: The differences, they don't have the Marys Clarette per se.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: And this isn't $2,000 anymore, like the world is completely different in terms of what you can do on offense and get away with.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: So that's one of the things I think to keep an eye on with with this defense or with this offense is like they will score a lot of points.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: if you give them the opportunities don't give them the opportunities I think it's helpful because this is a team that is really bad at like throwing the football hundred and twenty fourth and passer rating hundred and thirty first and passing offense hundred and thirty three uh... in passing yards per completion all these numbers of course before the organ game uh... mark when i was key though
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: Does it make the top 100 row table on CFBstats.com when you sort by like passers, like top passers?
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Controlled F couldn't find them, which is very frustrating.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: See, exactly where he ranks on some of this stuff, but his best game was at Rutgers in a shootout.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: They won 38, 28 on the road in Piscataway.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: It was a great game for him.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: But that was 12 of 18 for 186 yards no touchdown no picks didn't make mistakes.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: Did his thing on the ground as well, that's a very capable runner, especially in short yards, he scored a rushing touchdown in all nine games this season.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: So he's very productive that way, just don't expect him to throw the football much.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is I was offence is actually a window into my offense and see if the 26 25 circa, like the first one may, no, no, no, like at the, like when I started winning at New Mexico State or at Utah State where I was just like, yeah.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: my goal in every game was just to not throw an interception.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so I just started winning games with like eight of 10 passing and just all runs.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's what that's what Iowa is.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_02]: But like I said, like it's effective.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think like the, I mean, I'm going to compare them kind of to like the service academies that that run the triple option or whatever.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like they know what they're about.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: They understand that they're not a, a,
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: passing off ends of any note.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: So they only really throw when they need to and and Granalski does a pretty good job of in the situation where they're forced to throw of giving his receivers a chance of getting I mean it certainly looks like he needs all of his to get the ball downfield when when he when he's throwing so you know he's he's limited in that sense he doesn't have a rocket armor anything like that.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_02]: But he can get the ball down field to his two as receivers on a third down and, you know, third and and six, which they are usually in a third and manageable because they're running the ball so much and they're pretty good at running the ball and it's kind of three yards in a cloud of dust.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: And that has gotten them to a point of being able to sort of control games and let the defense.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: set the tone and and and just keep things very simple and not super flashy now if you're USC they're passing on what I think if you're USC going into this when you're looking at this and saying like okay so can we just replicate Nebraska and Northwestern then?
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: because Nebraska Northwestern were both teams that were better on the run and that have quarterbacks who certainly once still in rail a left quarterbacks with limited throwing ability.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_02]: And USC figured out in those games in the second half, how to deal with that kind of offense.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that the plus side here is that you get Iowa after you've already sort of had some proof of concept stuff, happened with Nebraska and Northwestern.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Now personally, I would really like to see USC not have to take a half to figure out how to cope with Iowa's offense because it's not that complicated, just stack the box.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like it's it's it's it's they are not going to beat you through the air if they do beat you through the air then you were going to get beaten anyways, you know, so I what I want to see you as he show in this game is that they've learned the lessons.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: of the north-western and Nebraska games to replicate that second half performance in like a complete game performance because realistically, you know, we're going to talk about the matchup between U.S. he's often and I was defense, but this is not a game that you can
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: go into an expect U.S. he's offence to, you know, blow away Iowa.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: This is too good of a defense.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: U.S. he has one of the best offenses in the country, but, you know, going, anybody going up against this, this defense will find it difficult to score.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: Indiana found it difficult to score.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: Oregon found it, well, circumstances being what they were, Oregon found it difficult to score.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I think that U.S. he, you're not going to,
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: You're not going to go in and say, yeah, US is going to put up 35 or 40 points, like no, that's that's not the situation.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: You kind of want to replicate Nebraska and even better North Western in the sense of
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: hold them under 20 and then just break through often enough to get up above 20 and leave it at that, you know, is going to have to to be off schedule in terms of the game.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: You win the game.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: You win the game in very much the same way that you won the game against Northwestern, which is to say,
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: either steal a possession or book in the half or do whatever it is that gets you up to scores.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: The moment you're up to scores, the game is done theoretically.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if, if you can force them to throw and they don't have the success throw in the ball and all that kind of stuff, you want them chasing.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Right, that's the key.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is a lot of this is so much easier said than done.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like there's, there's a reason the Kirk parents has been there forever.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's literally the winningest coach in the history of the conference.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: The longest tenured coach in college football, right?
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that by the way, parents being the winningest coach in the big ten, blows my brain.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, how does he have more wins than both Shembathler?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Shembathler was around forever?
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: There are fewer games.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: A few are games, but also like...
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, he might have almost as many seasons as Shem back there at this time.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say he's been there 27 years.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: What's the longest that how long was Joe Pau at Penn State?
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Joe Pau at Penn State is different because he was independent for so long.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, right, okay.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: So Joe Pau has like more career wins and all that stuff, obviously.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: But like,
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: not conference wins.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: But either way, like I tend to think that Iowa is a team where if you play them on the road versus at home, you will be more successful, especially when SC has the home road splits that definitely benefits them at home.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a big helpful factor here, especially in terms of the offense, in terms of the Iowa offense and sort of slowing them down,
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't a high-powered offense.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: If you can keep them to their averages and you take advantage of what you can do on your side of the ball, things will boat really well.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's just about, you know.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: Ideally, you force them to make mistakes.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: Grinowski, to his credit, is a very veteran quarterback who's been in division one for a long time, even at the FCS level.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: But the high end of the FCS level, right?
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like a plane, it's not the cuter state is basically like playing in the mountain west practically, right?
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, it's
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to put himself in a lot of positions to make really bad mistakes.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: You can't be the one to make more mistakes than him.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can get a pick out of him, that would be huge.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, if you can get a pick out of yourself.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: over underdog fantasy.

- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, yeah, very much so.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, third and total defense, fourth and scoring defense are the hot guys.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: The secondary, very, very good.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not as stingy as Nebraska, Rutgers through for 330 yards.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: Indiana's Fernando Mendoza was moderately successful, but they're really close to Nebraska.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: They ranked fifth and past defense going into the Oregon game, and they held Dante Mordo 112 passing yards in a ready in 97.2.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be in an
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: rain soaked game in Iowa City.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: They don't create a lot of negative plays.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: The defense that ranks 56th and Sachs, 60th and tackles for loss, but they force a lot of incompletions.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: And they've got a past Russia like
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: Max Luellen who can be really disruptive even when he's not getting a home to be productive getting sacks and attack us for love we saw that in the organ game he deflected a ball at the line of scrimmage that was huge for the hot guys early on in that game.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, he's got four hurries and four PBUs on top of his six acts so far this season.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, Max Luellen probably the guy that you're going to want to keep an eye out more than anything else on I was defense at the defensive end spot.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the rest defense for Iowa.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: Excellent.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: Going into the order again.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: The eighth in yards per carry, 10th in rest defense overall, none of their first eight opponents could rest for more than 3.76 yards per carry.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: That was Penn State.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: They were tied with Georgia for the second fewest 10 yard runs allowed and just allowed one carry of 20 plus yards.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: Insert the record scratch.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: sound, which we don't have the on the sound board, but I feel like we should.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: We could.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: I certainly can't do it.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:04[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: That was that was real bad.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: But did Oregon just put that you can run on this.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: I would team is a question.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: The docks ran for 261 yards on Saturday afternoon with all three running
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: It did not matter who was running the football.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: They were having the same exact success.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: Winnington, Davidson, Hill, all of them.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: 6.9, 6.5, 6.4, yards per carry.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: All of them just gatching.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: They had seven chantrons of 10 plus yards.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: Four of those were handoffs up the middle.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Dante Moore also had a 49 yard keeper for the ducks.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, what, what does this mean?
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: Does it mean anything?
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I guess the, the reason I asked this is is there where this could be like the Nebraska game, where,
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you just see that this might not be a game where my album is going to throw for 350 yards.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to have a lot of success through the air.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: They're probably going to have a really good shot to take away at least one of Lemoner Lane.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: But if you could just run the ball and run the ball effectively instead, like they did in the second half of the Nebraska game, and
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you can use more of the run game with the quarterback with my offer, like Dante Moore was very effective running the ball against them.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Could they do that?
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: In this game, because we kind of only seen that in the Nebraska game, like very small little bits of like run focused stuff.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, you've got to find ways to keep Iowa's defense honest and a quarterback run threat is a way to keep them honest and if they don't take pay attention to that, then they risk
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: giving up what they gave to don't they more giving that up to to drain my old then we know that drain my other can run you know as uncomfortable as he looks running he's effective when he takes off he scores as such down uh... against uh... north-western and he can certainly move uh... u.s.c.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: is frankly done less uh... fewer quarterback
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: like intentional quarterback runs design runs this season then I would have expected for my offer.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: So that that would be an interesting thing to to maybe be setting up for this game.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: But I
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: I am so very, very curious which USC shows up here in terms of the often spline because in a world where, and this is something we talk about all the time, USC's run game is so underrated.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: It is so overlooked how good USC is running the ball.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: Having said that, you know, we did see what happened to them against Notre Dame.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: We did see what happens when a defensive front is able to get the better of USC's offensive line.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: When the tight ends don't have a good day, you know, USC's offense, we have seen them stopped this year.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: We have seen them stopped with the run game.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: Part of me thinks that USC can go in here and try to replicate what Oregon did.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe even do it better because in the, I mean, the weather's going to be beautiful.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: Jane Mayava and USC's passive.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, McIlemon and Jacobi Lane simply being on the field will be bigger passing threats than Oregon was able to feel because they're all their guys were injured.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: So Iowa will have to take USC's past threat seriously.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: So that should also open things up for USC to say, you know, go out and run, but I'm also, I'm also very curious.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Oregon was kind of forced into running as much as they did because of the weather, because of the injuries in their past game.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it like benefited them in the end to sort of be forced to run.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: They ran like 14 times in a row.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's something that USC doesn't do by choice, right?
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: USC chooses not to run.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: And my worry here is that like, organ has laid a blueprint for how to attack this Iowa defense and will USC be stubborn enough to try to do it themselves.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if USC will go into this game saying that yeah, we can go run run on you run all over you if I'm Iowa I go into this game saying we're just going to run at USC's defense until they stop us.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: I would love to see USC go into this game against I won at least try to see if they can set the tone on the ground as early as possible.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know it's it's it's really going to come down to.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: does the offensive line show up.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_02]: Do the tight end show up and there are other questions too like who is USC center going into this game, you know?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like USC's offensive line is dealt with some injuries and upheavals and all that kind of stuff which certainly doesn't help.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: But Elijah Page is back, King Miller is running the ball really well.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_02]: The tight ends are coming off their best blocking performance, I think, of the season.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: So replicate that.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: on your home field and yeah maybe you can and maybe you're not going to put up 260 yards on this team.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: You're not likely to, but you don't need to put up 260 yards on the ground to be.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: I was.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the big.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think there is some solace in the Nebraska game and the Notre Dame game with the offense not being perfect in those two.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: In the sense that against North America's Nebraska, they still found a way to win.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is it, if Dilaral was healthy, would that have been enough to win?
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a different question.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: But like, they still found a way to win.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: They found a way to get King Miller his yards in that game.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: Against Notre Dame, the run game wasn't completely there.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: And the past game wasn't super explosive.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: But they didn't lose the game for a lack of moving the ball down the field.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: can be forgiving, and I think you can load yourself into being too forgiving with this, but like they can be forgiving in the sense that you don't have to score 30 points to beat this hi-word team.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a really good point.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_02]: And that's like, that's the, you know, you don't give up pick sixes and exactly you have to play clean.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: In order to be Iowa, you have to play clean.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: And that is probably what scares me the most is that, you know, USC is, we cannot always assume that USC will play clean when they play clean.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: They win big when they don't play clean.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: they lose to Notre Dame and Illinois and they, you know, make it very, very close against Nebraska.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, your, like, turnovers are going to be a huge element of this game.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: Interceptions, fumbles, ball security, all of that.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: Again, it's, it's,
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: I was a team that wants to steal possessions from you and wants to slow the game down and wants, you know, just by any means necessary to keep it low scoring and give their offense that chance and you can't sort of hand them gifts.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: If you hand them gifts in the form of turnovers or, you know, errors like that, then you're going to like you're going to
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: where you do go into the game without that pressure like U.S.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's often doesn't need to score 30 points in this game to win.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's some pressure taken off of them that they didn't get to enjoy against Notre Dame for instance because it felt like they had to score 30 points if they wanted a chance in that game.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: Problem is it is it is it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: turn over here or you can't low yourself into being too comfortable but also if there's if this is a game it doesn't have a lot of possessions then you might not need a score 30 points but like you might need to feel like you score 30 points in terms of the efficiency of your drives you know like might have to be
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: the same type of efficiency in a game in which you score 40, you know what I mean?
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it does help that SC just played Northwestern.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: You talked about like I was sort of being the final boss of this sort of archetype of team that SC has played in the last month or so and I think it's helpful that they just played Northwestern and team that wants to do all the things that I would did.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: slow drives, right?
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: That that first quarter, both SC and Northwestern on seven minute scoring drives in that first quarter last Friday night, right?
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: So like, SC was in a situation like that and still found a way to win.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: They played a game in which they knew that they didn't have the score 50 points to go win that thing, but also they were able to just,
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: be within themselves.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: You can say they played mistake free solely because my habit got his interception back, but, you know, if that doesn't happen to a team like I will, they will absolutely make you pay because I will love's nothing more than a one-yard touchdown ride.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: So if that fall out of bounds at the one, yeah, that would have been the most I would think ever for it.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: I really wanted to.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so all right, a lot of stuff to get to, let's get to
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going over.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've been involved, giving that over.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going, I've got to take it under here.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: I've got three under to take.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do an under here.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: Before we get to the overunders, which you can see on the screen up here, if you're watching on YouTube, results from the Northwestern overunder.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: You and I both were real bad, two and four.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: Vincent San Diego.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: The only robot that went perfect, six and oh.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I definitely didn't cover it.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you and I went to and four.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: Vincent's in here went from a perfect six and oh.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: Vincent's in here now, number one for the season among the robots, second place is HH and HB and third place is three way tie between JVandy, Nate and Wittier, Steven Chad, and John Clown.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: Keep playing over under, hit the link in the show notes and the description and the doobly do.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, have fun with us because we're enjoying playing over under along with you guys.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to the first one.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: Over under 39 and a half Iowa rush attempts.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: The hot guys are averaging 38.8, but they just had 43 against Oregon in the rain.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: Both Notre Dame and Nebraska ran at least 40 times against SC.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_01]: Will I, what do you do the same, 39.5?
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 41:15[SPEAKER_02]: Specifically because the weather will be better, specifically because I think that there may come a time where I would sort of have to look around and say, if USC does what I want them to do, I will have to look around and say like they're giving us the pass and so we need to take the pass.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: And also I think this will be a game with not there won't be a lot of plays in this game.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that rushing attempts will be under not far under, but I'm sort of I'm just going to go under going.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: Northwestern ran the ball 25 times on Friday.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm inclined to agree.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I will agree.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'll also say under, I'll say under with you.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: Just because it seems like a lot, it seems definitely like a lot.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: Then again, there were a lot of plays in that Notre Dame game because they did throw the ball a lot in Notre Dame did.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: But there was a lot of plays and they were able to run the ball for 300 yards, which made it easier for them to want to run the ball as much as they did.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, let's go to the next one over under three and a half made field goals.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: These are made field goals.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: These are not attempts made field goals combined between the two teams.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: S.C. and Iowa have combined to make 32 field goals in nine games, both in the top 10 nationally.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's three and a half per game combined.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: So the line three and a half, three and a half made field goals for the game.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: Iowa has made multiple field goals in seven and they're nine games.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: SC is done at thrice over under three and a half made field goals combined I like the over here okay because I do think USC will be able to move the ball but I also think that we have to give credit to IOS defense and I think that might translate into USC getting into the red zone and having to settle for a couple field goals yeah and then we know that Iowa
- 43:19[SPEAKER_02]: I suspect we'll be able to move the ball on USC, but one thing that USC's defense has done pretty well is forcing field goals once teams get into the red zone, and I was certainly not a team that's going to challenge USC's defense to a degree that they're going to, you know, that they're not going to shoot themselves in the foot a couple times and put themselves in a position to have to settle for field goals.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I like the over here.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: Me too.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: I also agree.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: We need to stop a green hunt stuff.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: We agree.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to the next one.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: One and a half.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: Jade and my other interceptions.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not throwing a single interception in his first four games, my other has thrown exactly one in each of the last five games he's not thrown more than one in a game.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: Iowa has forced at least one in all six of their big 10 conference games.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: They had three against Minnesota a couple weeks ago, which is why that game is so lopsided one and a half is the line, so will it be two will I was propensity to get one and my office propensity to throw one combine for two is the question.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_02]: I I'm going to take the under on this just because I think we are good for my
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: but he has done a better job this season of limiting it of not being, of not being so much of a gunsling or that he's gonna go out there and throw three picks or two picks and in most games.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: He did get a little lucky.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think he has had the bounce go his way a couple times here that maybe last game he could have thrown two interceptions if one of those.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: Wait a minute, he did throw two against Notre Dame.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I said that he hasn't, he did.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, but there's one of them was the desperation when the, yeah, because it doesn't count.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, I mean, it's counts, but it doesn't count.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't count, it doesn't count.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I think that he has done a good job of sort of realing himself in.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_02]: So he might throw one in a reception.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I think the chances are he won't throw two.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: OK.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think you made my point for me again.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're just going to create everything.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: Even though, look at the lines coming forward.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure we're not going to create all of these.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: But we're saying under, over, under the all agree on the first three.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to the next one.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: Over under 4.335, USA rushing yards per carry.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Iowa had not allowed a team to go over 4 yards per carry until Oregon had 7.3 on Saturday which was nuts.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: FCS struggled at times against teams.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: They had 3.7 yards per carry against Illinois.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: 2.3 on the road in South Bend at Notre Dame.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: However, the game is played at the Colosseum.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you've figured that one out.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: U.S.C.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: is number one nationally in yards per carry at home at 7.3 coincidentally the number that organ ran on Iowa, not only that S.C. is a literal full half yard ahead of yards for the number two yards per carry team at home, which is Navy.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: At least the line is low at 4.335.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: but like it's low because I wouldn't allow much on the ground.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: So like I feel like if S.E.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: runs for six yards per carry, it's gonna look like this was a stupid line, but I don't know how else you could put this line.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_02]: I am so torn, I hate this line, I hate it.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: Means it's a good line?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: because you see can run the ball, they can, they can.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: The offensive line is to do a really good job.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: The running backs are doing a really good job.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, King Miller is like the greatest thing in my life right now.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I, but I remember Notre Dame, but I remember Notre Dame, and I'm so I'm not sure, so then I'm like, I'm doubting myself.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: But those were on the road.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, is it just a home thing?
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: You was feeling good at the home, you know, home territory, um...
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to take the over just because
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: we saw Oregon be able to break some, maybe not like long distance runs, but they were getting chunk runs.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that King Miller is very good at the chunk run.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that Iowa will have to respect USC's past attack and not be able to totally go all
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to, I don't want to be optimistic here, but I, yeah, I'm going to take the over.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking the over to Penn State last year.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: SC average 7 point something yards per carry.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: They did it against Notre Dame as well, both those games at home.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: I, you don't need to do that in this game to get this over.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's 4.335, which, again, will feel really low in stupid.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: If SC runs for six yards of carry, it's just nobody but organ is done that against Iowa.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: So it's reluctant to make the line higher, but I'm going to go over.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: I will say, if SC gets this, it's way over.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: If they if they don't get it then it obviously under but like if they get it it will be way out like they're not going to get like 4.5 yeah I would I mean I would even say like it'll be five plus it'll be five plus it'll be five plus or it'll be in the three range like I would I feel very confident saying it will not be in the four range it will not be four points something I I kind of buy that yeah I buy that next one one and a half
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: S.C. is like trying to run a trick play in like every game this year.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: We realized this.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: There was a flee flicker and a fake punt against Northwestern.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: Against Nebraska.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: There was something weird.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: There was also the two-point conversion that was a little wildcat weird this.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Notre Dame had the the past.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Illinois had that flea flicker, um, the number though is at one and a half.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because this includes flea flicker.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is how we were legislating this.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: Flea flickers.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: Reverse.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: Double pass.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: A fake field goal.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_01]: A fake punt.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: A surprise onsite kick.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: Not an onsite kick in desperation trying to come back.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: But if you have an on-site kick to start at the second half or something like that, that's a trick play.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then at our discretion, weirdness in the Wildcat.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason that I say this, if it's a Wildcat run where the handoff is just to, It's a snappling area.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a hilarious run forward.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's not a trick play.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: But if it's some sort of trick play like they did in the,
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: two point conversion.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to ask if that counts as it's.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would count.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little trickeration in that.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I agree.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think we will know a trick play when we see it.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that the thing about pornography?
- 51:13[SPEAKER_03]: You know it when you see it?
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: You know a lot of things when you see it.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know that a play.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a famous quote like from like a
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, one and a half, over and over.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going under, playing the odds.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just playing the odds because, you know, I know that USC has done the trick plays, but it just seems more likely that they won't do to, to take place for whatever reason.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: They did the swinging gate against Nebraska also.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: I would count that.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I think the swinging gate counts in less it's the only time a swinging gate doesn't count as a trick play is when you get out of it's On a field goal attempt because then it's just a You're just making it to run it.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so I'm gonna say over I'm taking the over I don't want to agree with you on everything and It's homecoming S.E.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: Just keeps doing this kind of stuff
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the move is not to do anything to force them to account for it all, but I don't know.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking something.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking the over.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: Last one.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: 17.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: I would point.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's over liable.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_01]: We had this last week for Northwestern 17 and a half points and Northwestern scores.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: 17 points against Oregon, I was scored 16.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_01]: S.C. is holding opponents to 18.8 at home.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: They allowed just 17 to Northwestern and Nebraska in the back to back weeks on the bounce.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: I was averaging 31.3 per game overall, but 29.3 on the road.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: Those three road games, though, we talked about it earlier a little bit.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: The 38 at Rutgers had some weird stuff in it.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: 37 points was at an awful Wisconsin team.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: And the
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I think I would say this closer in profile as they hold team to SC because they're ranked team, but I would say it's defense better than SC's team.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll take that for the first, but 17, 17 and a half points for Iowa.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to take the over here and that is because I think that Iowa will score a non-traditional touchdown.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_02]: So whether it's a special team's situation, a block punter, an interception return or a fumble return or something weird, you know, something weird, they're going to score a non-conventional touchdown.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that if they come into this game and decide they're going to run the ball and really challenge USC's defense, I think they'll be able to move down the field and realistically, there's probably room for a broken play somewhere where they break off a long run or something, so they're going to find the end zone once or twice and then or settle for a few field goals and sort of get in the 14 point area and then there's to account for going above
- 54:27[SPEAKER_02]: going to 18 plus is the unconventional non-offensive score.
- 54:33[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_01]: I respect it.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not agreeing with it.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take the under again.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've got this as a low scoring game.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: Low scoring game on both sides.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to predictions.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a make a spread out that we can see since we're recording this on Saturday night?
- 54:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't one.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_02]: The spread I saw was USC minus one minus one.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: So it's the home, it's the home team advantage them.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_02]: Vegas Insider has bet 365 has USC minus three.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: It opened at minus one.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: Most of the, most of the places that they list here are minus three.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_02]: So U.S. he gets the, it's a push with U.S. he getting the, um, the home three points.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: What, what, what do you got?
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: What's your scope?
- 55:32[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think Vegas is right about the three points.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think it will be U.S. C. 27, Iowa, 24.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: In the end, I think that USC has playmakers on offense who will be able to eke out the 27 points.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that USC's defense will continue to look vulnerable, but I will give them credit for
- 55:55[SPEAKER_02]: finding a second gear in the second half for sort of figuring things out later on in the game.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that they will give up probably like 17-ish points, which is sort of what we talked about.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_02]: And then as I said, I will account for a partner's turn touchdown or something weird.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_02]: And then it's a three point win for USC.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's a three point win for USC because they are at home.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I think I think that's totally fair.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_01]: Totally fair.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_01]: 20 27 24 user.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: I am going to go under that on both accounts.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: U.S. C. 23 Iowa 15.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: How do they get the 15?
- 56:40[SPEAKER_01]: I touched down two field goals in the safety.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe
- 56:49[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe there's a two point conversion in here somewhere for some reason.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, maybe it's just five fielgles.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the way I see it is both teams are going to have to settle for fielgles in this game, which is why I took the over on the fielgles.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the difference in the game.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: So 23, 15 is my prediction there.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: At least let's get to the Rottermeter.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: On last we spoke with the Rottermeter, which was a while ago, after the Notre Dame game.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: At the Notre Dame, it lost the Notre Dame because we did not do a fallout episode after Notre Dame, or we did not do a car cast after in Nebraska, which is when we put out the
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the Rotometer after the Notre Dame game was at 3.8.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: There was a season low 3.8.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: At least a word you think it is now because you were you were saying that you were somewhere in the sixes?
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think I said 5.5 or 5.5 on the car cast.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'd be at like I think I said 6.75 or 6.5 or 6.5 or 6.5 or 6.5 or something like that.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: 6.6.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you said you said 6.5.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_01]: We'll say 6.5.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: I.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think the wrap-ups, I don't know because Twitter's being absolutely defensively insane.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_02]: People not happy with where you are.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: People are very defensive.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_02]: I have some tweets ready to go up about just like, I feel like people are projecting very hard onto the things that I say.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_02]: They are projecting their own
- 58:39[SPEAKER_02]: their own misgivings and their own doubts onto things that I say that are not meant to be big picture that are not meant to be, you know, drawing a line in the sand, you know.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think they're about?
- 58:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think the robots, they were at 3.5.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: They were at 3.8 after another day.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I think they're going to be up
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: At least you have the wrap-outs, let's go up here, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, right there.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sorry, 7.33, I thought it was 7.80, 7.33, I'm misreaded, I can't read.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_01]: 7.33, so let me lower this.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_02]: I get the 7.3 because if you would ask me at the start of the season, if USC was most likely to end up at 9 and 3, then I would probably say my rotometer was in the 7's range.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I think that makes sense for the robots.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think they are also overreacting to a win, which by all means, you know, enjoy.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_01]: I wish we had the data after Nebraska.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah, yeah, exactly because yeah, you're right.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's this is a reaction to two different wins.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: So sort of go up a couple notches and then go up a couple notches.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I get it.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't begrudge anybody being in that in that space.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_02]: I will be much closer to a seven after the IOA game if USC wins that game.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_02]: floor, nine and three is the likely and 10 and two is possible.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, then I'm perfectly happy to be at a seven.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_02]: Right now, I.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_02]: I do not trust USC fully yet, so I can't go up that high.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_02]: I will stay around a six.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: These are, these are what the robots have popped in.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: Ron Murray says we're starting to play better.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_01]: a wrap-out with uh... don't know who said this but on offence and we're play calling on defense and botched coverage lack of edge intensity uh... oh rummorty said eight by the way this one says uh... yeah this is seven on offence and we're play calling on defense and botched coverage and lack of edge integrity
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_01]: But we covered the spread by almost a touchdown and make good second half adjustments.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy with the margin of victory And I'm more worried about I would now than I was before this game Somebody else says seven we were showing signs that we can win at the right time of the season We just need to keep it going into the I win Oregon games But also not very confident the point point where we're going into the playoff without any doubts
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_01]: chappy has popped in with an eight and says I'm feeling great uh... u.s.c.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_01]: a seven and two with an open shot at the playoffs winning this game uh... winning the games that last year we would lose uh... example Nebraska uh... this this year we would have lost last year
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: One thing that can't be understated is that my Ava is a winner.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_01]: The fact people were asking you if he should be benched is insane.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_01]: One of the best quarterbacks statistically in the country.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_01]: And again, he is a winner.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think 10 and 3 would two of those losses being to Notre Dame as a career start at USC.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_01]: Things are trending in the right direction, half fun on VK, Chappy.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we appreciate it.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_01]: We will do, we will do so.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's get to the mail back, shall we?
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_01]: You've got mail.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: Travel this thing up with a good old mail bag.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: Email from Tony in the NRPA.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, I'll leave you.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is Tony in the NRPA.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: Nice win, three exclamation points.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_02]: I love you Tony from the North PA.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_02]: He's the best.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_02]: I saw this email and like, I just got like, I just got like happy, like warm little happy.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, it was like a little ray of sunshine.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_02]: They were just like, oh, Tony, this made my day.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember when like you first had a phone how you could send a text message to an email address?
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_01]: You don't remember this?
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_01]: With Verizon we could do this.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_01]: And like it feels to be like his emails oftentimes feel like text messages.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_01]: old school tech messages.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is Tony.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_01]: Nice win.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_01]: Great into the point.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's wonderful.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we got an email from Jonathan who says, hey, rats, uh, to last two weeks, uh, this type, this hype train of Lane Kiffin is getting out of control.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_01]: What has he done in his coaching career that says he will do a better job than Lincoln Riley, like just to say that Lane would be better,
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_01]: Just because he's hot right now is blasphemy, rebuilding the program takes time and yes, Lincoln Riley made mistakes and this philosophy in the first two years.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_01]: Next, Michael this season you have been as objective as you can be providing constructive criticism and credit when do, but Alicia, you're out on Lincoln Riley question mark really?
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_01]: The team isn't perfect, but we, you know,
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_01]: But why can't we enjoy that they keep improving and the team is more enjoyable to watch than between 2018 and 2021?
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_01]: Every game you say talk up to the opponent, then when SE wins, it's because of what the other team didn't do, preventing you from giving any credit whatsoever.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_01]: Would you prefer U.S.E.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_01]: fires Lincoln Riley, which isn't going to happen?
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_01]: And end up like Florida, Auburn, Penn State, think about this, prior to the playoff last year Ohio State wanted to fire Ryan Day, because they lost the Michigan.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess we would have fired him because they were out on him too.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know what they say?
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_01]: Trust the process.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_01]: Fight on.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yonatan, I love you.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for emailing in.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know,
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate the input for sure.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_02]: So when I say this, I'm not trying to direct anything specifically at you, Jonathan, but this is a perfect example of when I talk about people projecting.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_02]: Because I get this comment all the time, like, why can't we enjoy them improving?
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_02]: who set up where at what point did I say you can't enjoy them improving at what point did I say that this is a worse team than they were last year or the year before.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_02]: at what to at what point did I say that this, that this was, you know, the hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like, no, you could, we should be, I enjoy the shit out of King Miller every single Saturday for sure.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_02]: I enjoyed the shit out of Wayman Jordan, McIleman, Jacoby Lane, you know, Eric Gentry, Bishop Fitzgerald, Christian Pierce, Khmer Ramsey, you know, I, like, there is so much to enjoy about this team.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_02]: That doesn't mean that I can't also point out that USC's run defense is very bad.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I mean, these two things can coexist.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_02]: You could enjoy a team that is seven and two, and that is winning more winning the games that they would have lost last year, and we can objectively say that this team has improved massively in terms of being able to win games.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_02]: And as we talk about with people on the Rotometer, Jade Myalva is a huge part of that.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_02]: the progression of Jade Mayaba has been absolutely master for USC.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's why USC is in this position, we can say all those things while also acknowledging that USC's defense is nowhere near where it needs to be, to be competitive, that USC's run defense in particular is
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_02]: to a degree that I can't even like understand how they are still dealing with these same problems, we can be honest and say that USC secondary is shaky.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_02]: We can be honest and say that USC special teams is shaky.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_02]: We can be honest and say that Lincoln Riley did a stupid play call or did a great play call or that USC adjusted really well in the
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_02]: USC didn't have a good game plan to start in the first like all of these things exist and none of them are saying that like you must be sitting here with a cloud raining down on your head.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_02]: It just means that we are being we are acknowledging that's, you know, this is a fact of a thing and this is also a fact of a thing you can absolutely love a meal while also acknowledging that maybe this particular area that was too spicy.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_02]: or you know you would have preferred a little bit more seasoning on on the thing that doesn't mean that you're sitting there like saying like this is a trashy meal and I'm having a terrible time like no you can like it's okay for you to say like the you can acknowledge all of these elements and and enjoy yourself along the way
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_02]: like it it just it's so frustrating to me because like i'm getting inundated with and i'm projecting now soon so fine i'm getting inundated on twitter reminding myself why i scaled back from twitter of people just going like you're a negative nancy and you're the most negative person and how dare you be mean to u.s.c.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_02]: and all these things and it's like it's like
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_02]: the car cast I would love to go through the car cast and by a minute by minute accounting how long did we spend being negative about USC and how long did we spend praising USC.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_02]: I would wager that on that car cast which I will admit was probably one of my more negative car cast of the season.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_02]: I would wager it was 75% praise.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_02]: so like again it's it's it's it's okay so i'm so i'm negative so i'm uh... you know not we're not enjoying i'm not enjoying them improving no like that that's not that is absolutely not where i'm out and yes i'm out on Lincoln Riley that doesn't mean i think he's he should or will be fired that i i don't think you as he should fire him i don't think you as he will fire him i'm just i
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_02]: not putting faith in somebody that has not earned my faith.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to give Lincoln Riley the benefit of the doubt until he gives me a reason to give him the benefit of the doubt, which is why I'm going into the Iowa game, assuming that it will be a really, really stressful game to watch.
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I am going into the Oregon game thinking that USC is a
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_02]: guaranteed as guaranteed as close to guaranteed a loss as I have ever felt in in you know 20 years of being a fan.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_02]: that doesn't mean that I'm going to come out of the organ game and say U.S.E.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_02]: should fly or Lincoln Riley.
- 1:10:08[SPEAKER_02]: It just means that, you know, this is this is my perception of him as a coach.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do not at this stage think that he has what it takes to lead U.S.E to the promised land.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_02]: I've reached the same place with Clay Hilton and I was out on Clay Hilton for three years.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_02]: I also argued in 2019, all of the reasons why USC wouldn't fire Clay Helden, who I was out on by that point, but I knew they weren't going to fire him, because I, you know, understood the reasons why.
- 1:10:43[SPEAKER_02]: So again, it's like it's nothing, these things aren't like 100% or 0%, it's just, I, nuance.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, there's nuance, but I think that, but the word out is not nuance.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_01]: see what I'm saying.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_01]: When you say you're out, that is a black and white term.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Is it?
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think it is.
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so but I think that I agree with you and I agree with everything that you're saying right here with the exception of you came in the car cast.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_01]: fully like disappointed in everything from last night, no, I I came into the car.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't need to read listen to the car.
- 1:11:30[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, I maybe maybe I will, but I would say it wasn't disappointment.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_02]: It was I felt very conflicted.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_02]: I felt I felt like
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, like it was a it was a a win that objectively I should have I I should have been able to come on and say like this was a really positive step for USC and I didn't feel like saying that this was a really positive step for USC because I don't think now you're okay here here's where I'm at like if USC beats Iowa under any circumstance then
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_02]: By beating Iowa, USC will have proven that they can do so, which will- Can I just record- Oh, let me do this.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_02]: If USC beats Iowa, then I will go into the Oregon game, probably not at a 100% guarantee loss.
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_02]: I will have-
- 1:12:20[SPEAKER_02]: brought that down a little bit to acknowledge because if USC can beat Iowa can find a way to beat Iowa's defense.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Then yes, USC's could theoretically, if they figure out the road thing, which is a bigger issue that I can't really unravel from this.
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_02]: But if if the road thing suddenly clicks, if Nebraska was their moment of like, okay, we can win on the road and it's chill, and they proved that they can beat Iowa's defense, then they could go into Oregon and win.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_02]: That will be a sentiment that is dependent on USC beating Iowa, beating Iowa will tell me something about what this team isn't.
- 1:13:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think where I came out of the Northwestern game was nothing about that game gave me any insight into whether or not USC
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_02]: is cable being beating Iowa so I came out of that game in the car cast just going like okay yeah you see one crazy take that's right that if you want to say that there was nothing about that game that says that can be it organ i i think that's a different story but said that that with Iowa is it's crazy to me there's the same profile of team so they don't know they're the same profile they are not the same team no
- 1:13:43[SPEAKER_01]: No, yes, I get that, but like it's the same profile of team, so S.E.E.
- 1:13:51[SPEAKER_01]: just showed that they can beat that profile of team.
- 1:13:54[SPEAKER_01]: And so like, no, S.E.E.E.
- 1:13:56[SPEAKER_02]: just showed that they can beat a team that has an offense that's in the 50s and a defense that's in the 50s.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, Northwestern's defense is not even in the same stratosphere as I was off as I was defense.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_01]: SCB to team by three scores that the Vegas line said it was 14 like I Yeah, yeah, so you have to be in a team question.
- 1:14:19[SPEAKER_02]: Who's going to see B to team that they ought to have beaten by double digits?
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yes That's fine.
- 1:14:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, here's my question for you
- 1:14:30[SPEAKER_02]: this is a U.S. team that doesn't do that a lot and that's why I wanted to give them credit and that's why I wanted to acknowledge that this team is winning games that they didn't win last year but I will also acknowledge that the games that they didn't win last year they shouldn't have not won them like we can't
- 1:14:49[SPEAKER_02]: Scale things back to well USC's a D student, so when they get Cs, we're still happy.
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, this is my parents.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_02]: This is my parents looking at me and saying just because you got a D in biology and had to go to summer school.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_02]: Doesn't mean that it's okay that you got to see in whatever next class.
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_02]: No, they still knew I was capable of A's and therefore they expected me to perform and get and get those A's.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_01]: I hear you, but I think that analogy is a little played at this point to be honest.
- 1:15:24[SPEAKER_01]: I will say no analogy.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think the better the better analogy there is last year as he kept stubbing its toe.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_01]: This year, for the most part in those type of games, they're not stubbing their toe.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Now, is not stubbing, you're not doing a negative, a positive?
- 1:15:48[SPEAKER_01]: in considering the SC had stopped the toe, the whole, like plenty of freaking times.
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_01]: When you stopped touching your toe, that you can feel positive about no longer studying your toe.
- 1:16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:16:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_01]: But the other thing is, let's just say hypothetically.
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that I guess you're going to tell me the, I'm guessing you're going to give the answer that it doesn't matter because you've decided
- 1:16:17[SPEAKER_01]: Northwestern, Iowa are on complete different spheres.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, I've just said that USC beating Northwestern didn't make it more likely in my head that USC was going to beat Iowa.
- 1:16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is a crazy statement to say, but anyways, the point is, first of all, not beating Northwestern, being Northwestern, the way that they did, I think, is a sign that they can have success against Iowa.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, anyway, my question is agree.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_01]: beats Iowa.
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_01]: The same exact way.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Same exact.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same exact game.
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:16:54[SPEAKER_01]: But to a T, the only thing that has swapped out on the stat broadcast is the logos.
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_01]: What do you say?
- 1:17:02[SPEAKER_02]: I will say that was a great win.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_01]: But the defense was ass in the first quarter.
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:17:08[SPEAKER_01]: So, why are you enjoying it?
- 1:17:10[SPEAKER_01]: The defense was ass at the beginning of the game?
- 1:17:12[SPEAKER_02]: But again, again, like, the...
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_02]: This is the worst offense.
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no, hold on.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_02]: This is the again, like, why aren't you enjoying it?
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_02]: Who said I didn't enjoy the Northwestern game?
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_02]: You!
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_02]: If U.S.C.
- 1:17:26[SPEAKER_02]: does to Iowa what they did to Northwestern, what I will take from that is more to do with U.S.C.'
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_02]: 's offense being able to put a point on Iowa's defense as opposed to Northwestern's defense.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_02]: While also looking at USC's defense, I will look at USC's defense and say you are what you are, but at least you are now three games in a row, not giving up points in the second half.
- 1:17:51[SPEAKER_02]: Which means you are what you are, but you are moving in the direction you're still moving in that direction.
- 1:17:57[SPEAKER_02]: but it's still like it's it's a completely different ask because Iowa is a significantly better team than northwestern so like I don't think that you saying you know if if you said that uh yeah but then just in the same profile of team yeah but that profile doesn't matter like no but I think that it doesn't matter I like like beating beating an air raid team that like a shitty air raid team
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_02]: by whatever not doesn't mean that you're going to do it that any of that's going to translate to when you play you know Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma it's it's a Northwestern team that took Nebraska to the last couple places the grass cause not a great team so I don't know what you didn't beat Nebraska like they beat Northwestern well yes I'm just yes you are proving my point am I yes I'm just like I
- 1:18:54[SPEAKER_02]: Northwestern is like the ASU of the first year of her medwards.
- 1:18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like we expected Northwestern to be bad They are better than we expected, but like let's not get it twisted.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a great football team You're talking about them like Purdue because like Purdue I think Purdue is there they're like they got some spunk to them
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, they're not as bad as their record says, but like very clearly, it's way too early for them.
- 1:19:24[SPEAKER_02]: And Michael, if you're a mid north western is a middling college football team.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying they aren't.
- 1:19:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, no, you're acting like they, you're acting like they aren't.
- 1:19:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're acting like this is a top 25 team.
- 1:19:37[SPEAKER_02]: This is a, this is a smack dab in the middle.
- 1:19:40[SPEAKER_02]: 50 to 60 is ranked north western team.
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:19:45[SPEAKER_02]: I- Iowa is 20th in FPI.
- 1:19:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and 100 in something in offense.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_01]: What, what was in our offense?
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_01]: They are 50th in offense equal to Northwestern.
- 1:19:57[SPEAKER_01]: Part of that is because they score on short drives.
- 1:20:00[SPEAKER_01]: There are 56 then offense.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_02]: What I'm saying here in fifth and defense, Northwestern is 60 of the offense and 60 of the defense.
- 1:20:13[SPEAKER_02]: These are not the same.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_02]: They might be the similar profile, but they are not the same level of team.
- 1:20:19[SPEAKER_02]: It make a huge difference to me seeing USC replicate this performance against Iowa.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think there is inflation of Iowa also.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is not the best Iowa team we've ever seen.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_02]: No, but they're a really good defense.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_02]: And they're an offense that can run on USC based on everyone else we've seen run on USC.
- 1:20:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:20:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:20:44[SPEAKER_02]: My point, my point is I do not expect USC to beat Iowa the same way that they beat Northwestern if I improve in wrong then I will be very happy about that but I was talking to somebody on Twitter today there was like we shouldn't worry we shouldn't worry about Iowa it's like yeah we shouldn't worry about Iowa but I'm pretty sure we're gonna be sitting there on Saturday worrying about Iowa okay.
- 1:21:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, my main takeaway to Jonathan's email is, I, and this isn't just, this isn't about what Jonathan said, but more so like the scope of like what you're talking about, we've got a bunch of comments on YouTube and the comments on YouTube are completely on the opposite spectrums of things.
- 1:21:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's along the lines of what Jonathan is saying in that Alicia, what's wrong with you?
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you so negative?
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the flip side is,
- 1:21:40[SPEAKER_01]: There was a comment that was like finally a U.S.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_01]: He podcast that actually says it like it is.
- 1:21:45[SPEAKER_01]: She's not cherry-coated and like, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like, well, like, yeah.
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_02]: I want everybody to like stop with this, that the extremes of one side or the other and like, and understand that it's less about the extreme's exist.
- 1:22:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's always funny to me that the other side acts like the other side.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like in an undefathomable position completely.
- 1:22:09[SPEAKER_01]: You don't I mean, like, and I don't, I've got it since thing, it's not overly extreme, by the way.
- 1:22:19[SPEAKER_01]: So like I'm not saying that that.
- 1:22:20[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, it's just, it's just what's in front of us, which is why you all do respect to Janice and we love you.
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not personally going after you.
- 1:22:29[SPEAKER_01]: You're responding to more stuff on Twitter, yeah.
- 1:22:31[SPEAKER_01]: And YouTube comments and whatnot.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_01]: But like, it always is, it's, it's, it's very interesting.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like the, the, the rot, the rotometer, I think is a prime example, right?
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_01]: That is the yo-yo of like you win a game by three scores and you're up to a 7.3.
- 1:22:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's what fandom is right like the fandom is like Celebrating your moments that are celebrating your successes feeling good about that feeling optimistic feeling Optimistic and pessimistic really at the same time.
- 1:23:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's nobody that hates you know a team fans hate more than any other team They're own their own.
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, I've been told today that I hate USC, so You know
- 1:23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:23:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just think you should listen to it.
- 1:23:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go on a plane.
- 1:23:23[SPEAKER_02]: I tend to listen to the carcass.
- 1:23:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I listen back to the carcass.
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Listen back.
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:23:30[SPEAKER_02]: I also want to say that on the carcass, I felt like on the carcass.
- 1:23:34[SPEAKER_02]: I felt
- 1:23:36[SPEAKER_02]: a desire to be apologetic for my mood.
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like I was apologetic for the fact that I felt the way that I did because I recognized in that moment immediately that it would be better if I was just happy and just let it win and just let it, you know, let it be.
- 1:23:57[SPEAKER_02]: I fully like, I don't want to buy three-square.
- 1:24:00[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:24:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a win being a win.
- 1:24:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know.
- 1:24:04[SPEAKER_02]: No, I know.
- 1:24:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's my, that's my point.
- 1:24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking about it as if it was the Nebraska.
- 1:24:08[SPEAKER_02]: No, because no, here's, here's the, this is the primary difference between the way I'm approaching this and the way that a lot of other people are approaching.
- 1:24:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't know.
- 1:24:15[SPEAKER_02]: I just, it just clicked, Michael.
- 1:24:16[SPEAKER_02]: I just clicked.
- 1:24:18[SPEAKER_02]: I am talking about the Nebraska about the North Western game and the Nebraska game and I am at a Mac I'm I am thinking about things at the macro level, right and most people are thinking about the North Western game at the micro like they are thinking about the Northwestern game as it is where I can't get my brain out of the what does this mean for the future of the program.
- 1:24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't even have a negative perception of the Northwestern tank, but it has the macro, yes, yeah, which just took to go back to the Lincoln Riley thing I think this is the prime example of like I said this last week when we were doing the rudder meters about the coaching staff right yeah that like I think I've gotten to the point with Lincoln Riley word like I think you would call it being out I don't know what I said last week when I literally said the word that I said and my mouth was but like I
- 1:25:17[SPEAKER_01]: If we're talking about is Lincoln Riley going to build, it like, there's different questions.
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is, it's not like the standards are differently, the expectations are different or anything, but like there's different things.
- 1:25:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you're asking me, do I think he's gonna win a national title at USC?
- 1:25:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying probably not.
- 1:25:38[SPEAKER_01]: Do I say it?
- 1:25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think he's gonna win several national titles that SC and created a dynasty?
- 1:25:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna say no.
- 1:25:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so if you want to say I'm out there because that's the only thing you're ever looking at, then yeah, I guess I'm out on Lincoln Riley because of that right, but like he has done nothing to get fired this season, which is why I haven't been calling for him to get fired.
- 1:26:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:26:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:26:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so like.
- 1:26:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's, there's, there's, there's, there's new ones there.
- 1:26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, there's absolutely new ones there and like I do feel like they're going.
- 1:26:12[SPEAKER_01]: They're, they're training in the right direction.
- 1:26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 1:26:17[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:26:17[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:26:17[SPEAKER_02]: This is, they are trending in the right direction.
- 1:26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 1:26:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:26:21[SPEAKER_01]: But like, let's, you go with the, but it's your four.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's your four.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_02]: Let's, no, let's talk about Ryan Day.
- 1:26:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:26:28[SPEAKER_02]: OSU fans wanted Ryan Day out.
- 1:26:29[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:26:32[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 1:26:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's taken wild to look.
- 1:26:34[SPEAKER_02]: Ryan Day at Ohio State.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's going very slowly.
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, can I can I can I have a little Brian Kelly's got one.
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_02]: Brian Kelly just got fired.
- 1:26:44[SPEAKER_02]: You always record it, LSU was it was better than Lincoln.
- 1:26:47[SPEAKER_02]: 10 wins, 10 wins, nine wins, Lincoln Riley like we are not you can't compare Lincoln Riley to Ryan Day who was 13 wins, seven wins, 11 wins, 11 and two, 11 and two, 11 and two, before he gets his national title.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_02]: if the question is actually really was if Riley was if Riley was in ten win purgatory then I would be having a very different feeling about this I would probably be well you might just stumble into it with the right quarterback about the national title but Riley is not in ten win purgatory and I am not one I am not one to say that like the covered was so bear that he has to rebuild this program from the ground up the covered was not that bear they flipped the roster in
- 1:27:36[SPEAKER_02]: the year four thing to me does matter, because in year three, you shouldn't have been dealing with the pitfalls that you dealt with in year three, like those, those, the USC's inability to win those games, that was your one and two problems.
- 1:27:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I, I, I, I thoroughly agree, my only issue though with the, it's your fourth thing is like at some point you need to stop counting years.
- 1:28:08[SPEAKER_01]: At some point you just need to like, you need to look at what has happened and what is going to happen.
- 1:28:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I'm going with this, but it's just like this year and last year, it's not really different from year three to four in a grand scheme of things.
- 1:28:37[SPEAKER_01]: So what is it matter that we're saying it's year four versus year three?
- 1:28:41[SPEAKER_01]: What is it actually matter?
- 1:28:44[SPEAKER_02]: It matters it matters because you've put the stamp on your program like the program is a reflection of you It's no longer a reflection of the previous staff or the previous culture.
- 1:28:54[SPEAKER_02]: It is a reflection of you by your three Yes, so if we when I say you're four I mean the the reflection of the program is one that that is It's a knock-off your two, so that's my point that's my point between three.
- 1:29:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
- 1:29:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saying that's my point
- 1:29:10[SPEAKER_01]: But when you say you're four you're talking like because we're even a year-long year-three I guess what I'm saying like this is like in Riley's program like yes So like we don't need to count the years anymore.
- 1:29:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I'm saying like this just it is what it is No, because you got a benefit of the doubt in the first couple of years and I might even give you And I might even give you benefit of the doubt in year-three depending on what your personnel looks like because of Graduations and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:29:34[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, but like this does not fit into the doubt year
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a benefit of the out-year note, which is all it needs to be.
- 1:29:40[SPEAKER_02]: Which is why, which is, again, why?
- 1:29:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we are beyond the benefit of the out-year, right?
- 1:29:45[SPEAKER_02]: So why are people judging USC as though like 8 and 4 is an acceptable outcome?
- 1:29:52[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a benefit of the out-year.
- 1:29:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's you should already be in the 10 win range.
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_02]: Why are you not in the 10 win range?
- 1:29:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I'm angry.
- 1:30:00[SPEAKER_01]: But this is the nuance that I find frustrating.
- 1:30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:30:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, is it unfair for me to think that you as you should be in the ten-win range under Lincoln Riley at this point?
- 1:30:15[SPEAKER_02]: No Well, that's where I sit.
- 1:30:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I am out as it as it were but also like I
- 1:30:24[SPEAKER_01]: They could win ten games this year anyway.
- 1:30:25[SPEAKER_01]: They could.
- 1:30:26[SPEAKER_02]: And if they do, if they do, then that will have earned a lot of my trust back.
- 1:30:30[SPEAKER_02]: I guess, but you aren't predicting that and I'm not predicting that.
- 1:30:34[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, what I'm saying is like,
- 1:30:39[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you that like just because they went 6 and 6 last year doesn't mean that you need to only look at them as a 6 and 6 team because they shouldn't have been 6 and 6 last year and so when they improve on 6 and 6 they're just doing what they already should have done.
- 1:30:55[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that.
- 1:30:57[SPEAKER_01]: At the same time when you are 75 and 6 and 6 in the last two seasons at that point it is a trend.
- 1:31:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so, at this point, why I'm out on Lincoln Rowley, but I've just seen, like, at this point, like, you need to stop stepping the toe first before you take your steps first.
- 1:31:17[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:31:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so, like, we talked about it in the preseason.
- 1:31:22[SPEAKER_01]: My thing was, all I wanted to see from this team this year was for them to stop stepping their toe.
- 1:31:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, go give me the, the, the, um,
- 1:31:34[SPEAKER_01]: The James Franklin chalked nine and three, 10 and two season where you only lose to ranked teams on the road and that's the, like, and you cross your eyes and you got your T's outside of that.
- 1:31:50[SPEAKER_01]: If SC did that, well, it's not obviously the end goal, it is a major step to show that Lincoln Riley can do that, which he hasn't done.
- 1:32:02[SPEAKER_01]: and so that is very important and that should be uh... i'm not going to celebrate you don't hang a banner for that right but that's all i'm saying like that is that is what like it should be know it's what i'm getting and you should feel this is what i'm getting angry is a lot of u.s.c.
- 1:32:18[SPEAKER_02]: fans are acting like i should be hanging a banner because u.s.c.
- 1:32:22[SPEAKER_01]: is taken a step in the right way i think that i think this is hyperbole here
- 1:32:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of hypervaly on Twitter.
- 1:32:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, so yes, this is this is big facts, but, you know, that's just that's what I'm working with.
- 1:32:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, all these things are true.
- 1:32:40[SPEAKER_01]: All these things are true.
- 1:32:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:32:41[SPEAKER_01]: All new ones.
- 1:32:43[SPEAKER_01]: SE is not perfect.
- 1:32:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, so I'm not even asking them to be.
- 1:32:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know you're not, but the things you are saying is is coming across as if you are.
- 1:32:52[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's the problem.
- 1:32:54[SPEAKER_02]: I am asking for like 80%.
- 1:32:56[SPEAKER_02]: And get 70%.
- 1:33:01[SPEAKER_02]: And then getting told like you are asking too much.
- 1:33:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is a reference that people are not going to get.
- 1:33:07[SPEAKER_01]: Most people are not going to get, but I think you will get love is blind.
- 1:33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Edmund.
- 1:33:14[SPEAKER_01]: When Edmund is throwing his fit about not being able to hit.
- 1:33:24[SPEAKER_01]: In a lot of ways, I understand what he is trying to argue in the sense of everything.
- 1:33:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think I understand that what he means.
- 1:33:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's just saying nice guy is finished last.
- 1:33:44[SPEAKER_01]: But he ends up saying the words that in cells and rotates.
- 1:33:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to say that he's not meeting those things when he's saying those things.
- 1:33:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you, I think I don't think you're meaning the, wow, I got to compare to in sales.
- 1:34:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's just wonderful.
- 1:34:07[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know what I mean?
- 1:34:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you're meaning that you need this team to be a national championship this year.
- 1:34:14[SPEAKER_01]: A national championship winning team this year or else.
- 1:34:18[SPEAKER_01]: But a lot of the words you are saying,
- 1:34:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's doing the work to make that argument.
- 1:34:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is that an analogy, okay?
- 1:34:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you say so, I don't...
- 1:34:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
- 1:34:36[SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't know what I'm supposed to say.
- 1:34:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's very frustrating because I'm just being authentic and just being honest.
- 1:34:44[SPEAKER_02]: And we love that.
- 1:34:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not going to fake, I'm not going to fake optimism or optimism if I don't feel it.
- 1:34:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to fake pessimism if I don't feel it.
- 1:34:54[SPEAKER_02]: So this whole negative Nancy accusations, it's like, okay, I guess I'm negative,
- 1:35:05[SPEAKER_02]: I spend a lot of time praising this team too, so I guess I need to just start prefacing everything I say with Jade my Alva is one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and King Miller is my favorite thing in the world right now, and blah blah blah, and McIleman is amazing, but also USC's run defense is bad, and that sucks.
- 1:35:24[SPEAKER_02]: But also I would I would appreciate if USC's defense was better than this.
- 1:35:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we've gone on way too long.
- 1:35:30[SPEAKER_02]: We need to pack.
- 1:35:32[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:35:33[SPEAKER_01]: We said we were going to do a tight hour.
- 1:35:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we never did that.
- 1:35:35[SPEAKER_01]: We are way over that.
- 1:35:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, all right, we will be back for the carcass Saturday night.
- 1:35:40[SPEAKER_01]: It would be later Saturday night.
- 1:35:41[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect, USC and I went, what goes on.
- 1:35:44[SPEAKER_01]: Click the link in the show notes to do the overunder and all that stuff.
- 1:35:48[SPEAKER_01]: Until that will stay.
- 1:35:50[SPEAKER_01]: See you.
- 1:35:50[SPEAKER_01]: See you.
