- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's just solo by myself for a couple of days,
- 0:15Speaker 2: I think. Joakim's down. He's not feeling too well, so
- 0:17Speaker 2: he won't be here today, but the good things will
- 0:20Speaker 2: still happen. We still got treats coming your way, dining experiences,
- 0:24Speaker 2: and Malcolm Todd about to kick off this hour. Singapore's
- 0:27Speaker 2: number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Happy Monday. Welcome to a brand new week. How was
- 0:34Speaker 2: your weekend? Mine was, mine was pretty fun actually, um,
- 0:37Speaker 2: aside from some work stuff that I had to do.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I actually went and played paddle twice.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Cementing my suspicion that I'm really not very good at
- 0:47Speaker 2: this sport, despite um spending some time in Bali, like
- 0:51Speaker 2: doing a, doing a short like training weekend. Yeah, I,
- 0:56Speaker 2: I don't know, man. Do you ever feel like you're
- 0:58Speaker 2: just not meant for something?
- 1:01Speaker 2: That's me when it comes to sports or anything that
- 1:04Speaker 2: requires coordination.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not, I'm not like terrible at it.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It's just that I thought that I'll be a bit
- 1:09Speaker 2: better by now, you know, like having played for a
- 1:12Speaker 2: few months already and, and I went for some classes.
- 1:15Speaker 2: So I'm just like, yeah, why am I still not
- 1:18Speaker 2: at the level that I'm hoping to be? And some
- 1:20Speaker 2: people are just so talented at it, you know, so
- 1:23Speaker 2: I'm guessing that maybe I have other talents that's not
- 1:25Speaker 2: related to sports, maybe something else. I should try like
- 1:28Speaker 2: another talent soon, like a musical instrument or like singing or.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Something else. Anyway, hope that you had a great rest
- 1:35Speaker 2: and we're gonna kick off a brand new week. I'm
- 1:37Speaker 2: here to give you the energy that you need in
- 1:39Speaker 2: case you're feeling blue about Monday. I mean, me too, right?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Joakim's out sick and I'm solo, so I've got to
- 1:45Speaker 2: tank it and give you all the energy that you need.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So lots of love there. So, just want to go
- 1:50Speaker 2: to Tampines right now, OK, where I, I, I would be,
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'll be pretty nervous if I knew this uncle was
- 1:56Speaker 2: watching me.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Um, in a good way, in a good way. I'll
- 1:59Speaker 2: feel safe actually, because I, I don't think I'm guilty
- 2:02Speaker 2: of this. There's a retiree over in Tampines. He could
- 2:06Speaker 2: have been any one of our dads or grandpas, OK.
- 2:09Speaker 2: He's close to 70 now, and because he's retired, I
- 2:12Speaker 2: think he just wants to
- 2:14Speaker 2: You know, make, make good use of his time, right?
- 2:16Speaker 2: I feel like as, as you get older, you want
- 2:18Speaker 2: to find a purpose. And even when, you know, you're
- 2:20Speaker 2: in school or you're already starting work and stuff, like
- 2:23Speaker 2: all of us need a purpose to continue waking up
- 2:25Speaker 2: every morning and to go to school, go to work, right? We,
- 2:28Speaker 2: we always need to feel motivated. Um, he's decided to
- 2:32Speaker 2: use his camera to catch litterbugs and those who are
- 2:36Speaker 2: parking illegally, and he will report it, by the way.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And I love his tagline, his tagline that is literally
- 2:44Speaker 2: quoted from him. He said, as long as I see it,
- 2:47Speaker 2: I will report it.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Hey, honestly, um, we need people like that sometimes, right?
- 2:53Speaker 2: He's taken up this new hobby, um, and it's quite
- 2:56Speaker 2: brutal because these people who get photographed, they are littering,
- 3:00Speaker 2: they're literally caught in the act of parking illegally. He
- 3:02Speaker 2: spends almost his whole day just looking out his window.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Um, observing, observing, and he says, whenever I see something
- 3:09Speaker 2: illegal happening, I will take a picture and submit it
- 3:12Speaker 2: to the authorities. But of course, he keeps written records
- 3:15Speaker 2: of his observations as well. And once a month, he
- 3:18Speaker 2: will travel for over an hour, literally to the NEA
- 3:23Speaker 2: office to submit the evidence he's collected. So, I want
- 3:27Speaker 2: to take a guess how many cases he actually catches
- 3:29Speaker 2: every month.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Between 40 to 50 littering cases each month, you know, how,
- 3:34Speaker 2: how's that crazy? The situation improved, by the way, maybe
- 3:37Speaker 2: people got nervous because they know there's an uncle watching them.
- 3:40Speaker 2: The number fell to about 20 to 30 cases monthly. Um,
- 3:45Speaker 2: some residents actually even have received fines based on the
- 3:48Speaker 2: evidence he has submitted. So I think, um, one private
- 3:52Speaker 2: hire car driver said a lot of residents were unhappy
- 3:55Speaker 2: with his actions.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Um, and a lot of fines have been issued, right?
- 3:59Speaker 2: So we'll see. I mean, he's still gonna be doing this.
- 4:02Speaker 2: He's even invested in a better camera. He spent over $1000. Um, however,
- 4:07Speaker 2: as you know, with these things also come confrontations with
- 4:10Speaker 2: neighbors who like aren't happy and stuff, right? So, um, they,
- 4:14Speaker 2: some of them don't really like it. Some on the
- 4:15Speaker 2: flip side say like, hey, you know, he's making the
- 4:17Speaker 2: neighborhood a better place.
- 4:19Speaker 2: This is up for arguments, but so far, what he's
- 4:22Speaker 2: doing is not wrong. I'm guessing he's just getting evidence
- 4:25Speaker 2: and receipts of people actually doing illegal things. So, this
- 4:29Speaker 2: is up for debates. We'll see. I mean, I just
- 4:32Speaker 2: hope that um he doesn't get into any physical fights
- 4:35Speaker 2: or altercations. I mean, that would be bad for his safety.
- 4:38Speaker 2: We know the area he lives in, but maybe we
- 4:41Speaker 2: don't know the block, so, um, that just, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: keep it that way, I guess. Only his neighbors know.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Anyway, coming up very soon in about say 10 minutes
- 4:50Speaker 2: or so, I want to open up the phone lines
- 4:52Speaker 2: to put you in a better mood. I'll leave you
- 4:54Speaker 2: to be the music director, OK? You get to decide
- 4:57Speaker 2: what song plays just before 7 a.m. It is time
- 5:00Speaker 2: to open up the phone lines, 669-11987 if you're on
- 5:04Speaker 2: your way to work, to school, um, if you want
- 5:06Speaker 2: to give a shout out to your school because Joakim
- 5:08Speaker 2: and I.
- 5:08Speaker 2: We're actually heading to a school this week. I'm not
- 5:11Speaker 2: gonna say which school just yet, just in case it's
- 5:13Speaker 2: meant to be a surprise, but maybe closer to the dates,
- 5:16Speaker 2: which is more towards the end of the week, we'll
- 5:18Speaker 2: reveal which school we're going to. We're really ramping it
- 5:20Speaker 2: up now and hoping to cover more of Singapore, but that's,
- 5:24Speaker 2: that's only, there's only that many places Jokim and I
- 5:27Speaker 2: can stop by, right? So, while we are waiting,
- 5:31Speaker 2: And while we're getting the schedule in, we just want
- 5:33Speaker 2: to give you a shout out anyway. So if you
- 5:35Speaker 2: want to give your school some attention on air or
- 5:38Speaker 2: maybe just give your besties a shout out or your
- 5:40Speaker 2: teachers or maybe even if you're a teacher, or you're
- 5:43Speaker 2: an alumni and you want to give your school a
- 5:45Speaker 2: shout out, why not? 669-11987 is the number to call
- 5:49Speaker 2: and bonus points, you get to decide what music.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I play next just before we hit 7 a.m., OK?
- 5:57Speaker 2: Phone lines are open 269-11987. Hi. Hi, Leah, good morning.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Which school are you from, Leah? I am from C
- 6:05Speaker 2: H I J O L G C. Yay, I love
- 6:08Speaker 2: your school. So what level are you in this year?
- 6:11Speaker 2: Primary 4. Do you want to give your friends a
- 6:14Speaker 2: shout out this morning from your school or maybe your teachers?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yes, to my friend Caitlyn. Thank you for being my friend. Awesome.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Love that. Is there a song that the both of
- 6:24Speaker 2: you love listening to? I'm not sure what her favorite
- 6:27Speaker 2: song is, but I like Let Me Down slowly. All right,
- 6:31Speaker 2: that's coming up for you in a couple of seconds. OK?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Thank you. Have a great day. Bye bye. Bye. So
- 6:38Speaker 2: here's a, here's a question for you.
- 6:40Speaker 2: What have you specifically traveled overseas for before? Like if
- 6:45Speaker 2: you think about it, OK? I mean, one might think, OK, yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I would go fly specifically to see Mount Fuji, for example,
- 6:52Speaker 2: or to experience um the Niagara Falls or I don't know, the,
- 6:56Speaker 2: the Grand Canyon or something. So there's a lot of
- 6:58Speaker 2: things that you would travel the distance for just to
- 7:02Speaker 2: experience at least once in your life, right?
- 7:04Speaker 2: How about our circle line? I want to give a
- 7:08Speaker 2: big shout out to this Austrian man who flew halfway
- 7:12Speaker 2: across the world to experience the completed circle line and
- 7:16Speaker 2: to be there for the opening.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I think that's incredible. He was among the first to
- 7:22Speaker 2: write the 3 news stations, by the way. He really
- 7:25Speaker 2: went the distance. Um, now, the completed loop loop, by
- 7:28Speaker 2: the way, includes 3 new stations, Keppel, Canterman, Prince Edward Road,
- 7:32Speaker 2: and this is um, something really historic for us, I think,
- 7:37Speaker 2: you know, I think a lot of people are really
- 7:38Speaker 2: celebrating it that we're finally closing the loop. We are done.
- 7:42Speaker 2: It has been completed.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Um, so, so he actually said he did not sleep much. Um,
- 7:48Speaker 2: he woke up Friday, he flew on Saturday, he hasn't
- 7:51Speaker 2: slept since. Um, he was actually on board the train
- 7:54Speaker 2: with a suitcase and he did tell some of the
- 7:57Speaker 2: press that his favorite station is actually Harborfront.
- 8:01Speaker 2: So many other people were interviewed as well and, and
- 8:04Speaker 2: funny enough, I couldn't really find a name, um, this
- 8:07Speaker 2: Austrian guy, like he, he didn't quite leave his name,
- 8:09Speaker 2: so I don't, don't know how to reach him. It
- 8:11Speaker 2: would be really cool if we could have had him
- 8:13Speaker 2: on air, but I have a feeling he's probably flown
- 8:15Speaker 2: back already now that he's got his suitcase with him.
- 8:18Speaker 2: He looks like he was just going to do, um,
- 8:20Speaker 2: like a, a short one here in Singapore and fly
- 8:22Speaker 2: straight back. So.
- 8:23Speaker 2: A lot of excited people too wanted to be the
- 8:26Speaker 2: first to be on board and to experience the opening. So, hey, man,
- 8:31Speaker 2: this is an exciting time for Singapore and I have
- 8:33Speaker 2: to say I'm very proud when I see all these
- 8:35Speaker 2: new stations. It looks like it's from the future. Like
- 8:39Speaker 2: when you think of train station, you wouldn't think that
- 8:41Speaker 2: it would look like that, you know, and something to
- 8:43Speaker 2: be proud of for sure. So, uh, thank you to
- 8:45Speaker 2: our friends over at LTA.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And congratulations for this historic moment. Uh, commuters will enjoy
- 8:52Speaker 2: shorter traveling times. Maybe you're taking the Circle line this morning.
- 8:56Speaker 2: It'll be something exciting just for you. And after 17
- 9:00Speaker 2: long years, which is probably like, it could be your
- 9:03Speaker 2: entire lifetime or half your life, over in Plaza Singapura,
- 9:07Speaker 2: a place where people and anime fans would go visit
- 9:11Speaker 2: after nearly two decades, Otaku House is closing.
- 9:15Speaker 2: In August of this year, so you only have a
- 9:18Speaker 2: couple more weeks to, to experience it. Um, 16th of
- 9:21Speaker 2: August is the closing date. Um, two decades of great memories,
- 9:25Speaker 2: I think, to mark the end of its journey at
- 9:27Speaker 2: this mall. They're holding a sale with 40% of their items.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So they've got toys, collectibles, plushies, other anime merchandise. So
- 9:35Speaker 2: if you have a friend or a family member who's
- 9:37Speaker 2: like a massive fan of anime, you might want to
- 9:41Speaker 2: bring that person down.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Um, but not to worry, not to worry. They have
- 9:44Speaker 2: 3 other outlets over at Jewel Changi, PLQ Mall and
- 9:48Speaker 2: Suntec City. So don't, don't be too concerned like, oh man,
- 9:52Speaker 2: like it's, I can't get my stuff anymore. Um, but
- 9:55Speaker 2: I think it's more of what it means to you
- 9:58Speaker 2: because I guess if you spent your entire like school
- 10:01Speaker 2: life going there, um, or wanting to buy something from there, like,
- 10:05Speaker 2: it could hold a specific memory for you, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 2: but this comes soon after the news of uh the
- 10:10Speaker 2: revamp over in Plaza Singh.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And unfortunately, also Golden Village shutting its doors at Plaza Singapura. So,
- 10:16Speaker 2: the whole mall is embarking on a major revamp that's
- 10:19Speaker 2: going to cost them over like $160 million or something.
- 10:23Speaker 2: So, really, I think great things are gonna come. We're
- 10:26Speaker 2: very excited to see what they are going to offer
- 10:29Speaker 2: over at Plaza Sing. They are working very closely with
- 10:31Speaker 2: suitable tenants to tailor to their needs, so we'll see.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I mean, more details will be revealed very soon, I'm sure.
- 10:38Speaker 2: This song just kind of brought back all the memories
- 10:39Speaker 2: of me learning how to rollerblade. If you're tuning in now,
- 10:42Speaker 2: do you know how to rollerblade? I mean, I'm not
- 10:45Speaker 2: sure whether it's still a thing anymore, but I, I
- 10:47Speaker 2: know that like when I was a kid, right, my
- 10:49Speaker 2: friends and I all wanted to learn how to rollerblade,
- 10:51Speaker 2: and my dad taught me.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I fell like many, many, many times. Once I even
- 10:56Speaker 2: fell into the drain at East Coast Park. Um, I
- 10:59Speaker 2: can't remember was that because I was learning how to
- 11:01Speaker 2: rollerblade or cycle, like either one of those, but I'm
- 11:04Speaker 2: very glad that I learned these things because it, it
- 11:06Speaker 2: kind of comes in handy once in a while when you're,
- 11:10Speaker 2: when you're grown up. I don't know. Actually, the last time,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I'm not sure if I even recall the last time I,
- 11:16Speaker 2: I went to rollerblade.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But it did, however, help me with other things, like
- 11:21Speaker 2: when I tried ice skating, although it does feel very different,
- 11:24Speaker 2: but you still get a sense of it, you know.
- 11:26Speaker 2: So yeah, just kind of brought me down memory lane there.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Do you, do you have these skills? I think I'm
- 11:31Speaker 2: not sure if Joakim knows how to rollerblade, to be honest,
- 11:34Speaker 2: because if I'm not wrong, he only learned how to
- 11:36Speaker 2: cycle very late in life.
- 11:38Speaker 2: And he still doesn't know how to swim. Don't tell
- 11:42Speaker 2: him I told you that, but your fun fact for
- 11:44Speaker 2: the day. He doesn't know how to swim. OK, so
- 11:47Speaker 2: coming up right after 8, I always like to kick
- 11:49Speaker 2: it off by opening up the phone lines, 669-11987. Inspired
- 11:53Speaker 2: by a couple of things, um, one story that I
- 11:56Speaker 2: read earlier this morning and my upcoming trip for Tomorrowland,
- 11:59Speaker 2: which I'm heading off very soon. I'm really excited.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Not sure if you're a festival-going kind of person or
- 12:06Speaker 2: is Tomorrowland or maybe even Coachella part of your wish list, maybe, yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 2: or maybe something a little nearer. I think there's Tomorrowland
- 12:13Speaker 2: Thailand coming up in December as well. So, plenty of
- 12:16Speaker 2: things to look forward to and in Singapore previously, just
- 12:19Speaker 2: a few months back, Palm Tree Music Festival, right? So, um,
- 12:22Speaker 2: many different things that you want to travel for and experience.
- 12:26Speaker 2: But for this particular Austrian man, and I, I mentioned
- 12:29Speaker 2: him very briefly earlier on in the show that flew
- 12:32Speaker 2: to Singapore.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Just for not any festival or any landmark or anything,
- 12:37Speaker 2: for the completed circle line opening, and he became one
- 12:41Speaker 2: of the first to write the news stations. I wanted
- 12:45Speaker 2: to ask you a question coming up in a few minutes,
- 12:47Speaker 2: right after 8, we're gonna open up phone lines.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Would you plan a trip specifically to experience or see
- 12:54Speaker 2: something or maybe climb a mountain or, you know, you
- 12:57Speaker 2: want to go see tiger's nest in Bhutan, like Jokim,
- 12:59Speaker 2: for example, or maybe you want to just lay your
- 13:02Speaker 2: eyes on Mount Fuji for once, maybe.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Um, go to Antelope Canyon in the US? Like, are
- 13:09Speaker 2: there these things that you specifically want to fly and
- 13:12Speaker 2: see and experience at least once in your life? Would
- 13:15Speaker 2: you take the effort to do that? Or are you
- 13:17Speaker 2: the kind of person that's just like, OK, you know,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'll travel, but mainly to shop and eat?
- 13:21Speaker 2: Which kind of traveler are you? I, I want to
- 13:23Speaker 2: know because this story just opened up a whole new
- 13:26Speaker 2: world for me. I'm like, wow, people really travel, put
- 13:28Speaker 2: in the effort to do these things. Then I thought
- 13:31Speaker 2: about myself, I'm like, yeah, I'm kind of doing the
- 13:32Speaker 2: same thing with certain things, right, in life. If you're
- 13:35Speaker 2: able to, you have the time and the budget to
- 13:36Speaker 2: do so.
- 13:37Speaker 2: So I'm gonna open up phone lines in a bit.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Of course, I got a lovely treat coming your way.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I can't wait to tell you what your prize is
- 13:43Speaker 2: in just a while. About to open up the phone
- 13:45Speaker 2: lines right now, 669-11987, inspired by this incredible story of
- 13:51Speaker 2: an Austrian guy that actually flew down to Singapore. I'm
- 13:54Speaker 2: not sure whether he's still here. It doesn't sound like
- 13:56Speaker 2: he is, but it it almost seems like he was
- 13:59Speaker 2: here literally just for the weekend.
- 14:01Speaker 2: To witness the completed Circle Line opening, and he became
- 14:05Speaker 2: among the first to ride um some of the news stations.
- 14:08Speaker 2: So I, I thought it was just incredible. I never
- 14:10Speaker 2: thought that our Circle Line is something that people will
- 14:14Speaker 2: fly down specifically to Singapore for, and yet here he is,
- 14:18Speaker 2: he did it, and I just thought, hey, you know what,
- 14:20Speaker 2: that's testament to how incredible some of our things are
- 14:23Speaker 2: here in Singapore, right? Like people actually want to experience
- 14:26Speaker 2: it and they find it pretty cool.
- 14:29Speaker 2: So, phone lines are now open, 669-11987. Do you feel
- 14:33Speaker 2: like you are also like this guy? You specifically fly
- 14:36Speaker 2: to a country to experience something at least once. It
- 14:39Speaker 2: could be Mount Fuji. It could be, um, you know,
- 14:43Speaker 2: the Antelope Canyon, maybe it could be Vegas just for
- 14:47Speaker 2: something famous over there, um, or a famous, um, music
- 14:50Speaker 2: festival perhaps. I mean, I'm going to for Tomorrowland very soon.
- 14:53Speaker 2: It's on my bucket list.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Is there anything that you're aspiring to feel and witness
- 14:59Speaker 2: at least once in your life, but you have to
- 15:01Speaker 2: travel and fly to do so? Let me know, 669-11987
- 15:05Speaker 2: or drop me a message 90050987. You can also share
- 15:10Speaker 2: with me if you're the kind of traveler that you
- 15:12Speaker 2: just want to go eat and shop and you don't
- 15:13Speaker 2: really care about experiencing anything, it doesn't matter to you.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I would love to hear from you. Phone lines are open,
- 15:20Speaker 2: uh WhatsApp's open as well. In exchange, a wonderful dining
- 15:23Speaker 2: experience to Gypsy could be coming your way. Gypsy over
- 15:26Speaker 2: at One Fullerton is simply one of the most beautiful places,
- 15:30Speaker 2: and they've got that contemporary Japanese menu going on as well.
- 15:33Speaker 2: In fact, I love their menu. I like going to
- 15:34Speaker 2: the East Coast one as well, because it's dog friendly too,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and I go there pretty often.
- 15:39Speaker 2: But this one, the one Fullerton one is a classic
- 15:42Speaker 2: because you get to overlook the Marina Bay waterfront, um,
- 15:45Speaker 2: well suited for if you want to go for a
- 15:46Speaker 2: dinner date, uh, catch up with your besties, or just
- 15:49Speaker 2: a chill, relaxed evening, you know. I'll tell you more
- 15:52Speaker 2: about their offerings in just a little bit because they
- 15:54Speaker 2: got some great deals, especially, um, Happy Hour.
- 15:58Speaker 2: As well. So, uh, getting an influx of answers right now.
- 16:01Speaker 2: The question for you here today is, would you travel
- 16:04Speaker 2: specifically to a country or a place in the world
- 16:07Speaker 2: just to experience like a, a natural phenomenon or like
- 16:10Speaker 2: a landmark or, you know, you want to see, I
- 16:13Speaker 2: don't know, you want to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge,
- 16:15Speaker 2: for example, or, you know, uh, see the Eiffel Tower.
- 16:18Speaker 2: I don't know, like, are you that kind of traveler?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Um, or are you the sort that you prioritize eating, shopping,
- 16:25Speaker 2: just immersing in the culture? What kind of traveler are you?
- 16:28Speaker 2: All inspired by this Austrian man who flew specifically down
- 16:31Speaker 2: to Singapore for, I'm what I'm guessing was the weekend
- 16:34Speaker 2: just to experience the opening of the Circle line. I
- 16:36Speaker 2: think that's incredible. I wanted to like try and reach
- 16:39Speaker 2: out to him, but I don't even see his name
- 16:41Speaker 2: on any of these articles and I have a feeling
- 16:44Speaker 2: he's not here in Singapore anymore. But anyway, saying hi
- 16:46Speaker 2: to Crystal here who sent me a message. Morning, Sonia.
- 16:49Speaker 2: When I was 21,
- 16:50Speaker 2: Back then, there was a very popular Taiwanese movie. It's
- 16:53Speaker 2: called You Are the Apple of My Eye. One of
- 16:56Speaker 2: the scenes showed the characters releasing a sky lantern, which
- 17:00Speaker 2: is a tradition in Taiwan. Yes, I've been there before.
- 17:03Speaker 2: My boyfriend and I flew to Taiwan just to experience
- 17:06Speaker 2: it for ourselves because of the movie.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Hey, I love that. Um, I've gone to release lanterns
- 17:13Speaker 2: there twice actually. One was for work and the other
- 17:16Speaker 2: was just with my girlfriends for, uh, for one of
- 17:18Speaker 2: my friend's birthday trips. It's actually still very cute and memorable,
- 17:21Speaker 2: and you get to write with a calligraphy brush, right?
- 17:25Speaker 2: You get to paint on, and some people try to
- 17:27Speaker 2: write in Mandarin, but I just gave up. I think
- 17:29Speaker 2: I wrote English. I I've just written my name in Mandarin.
- 17:32Speaker 2: That was the only thing I could write, uh, or
- 17:34Speaker 2: some cheng Yu, you know, you go and like Google
- 17:36Speaker 2: and see your chat GBT, right?
- 17:38Speaker 2: OK, um, saying hi here to Dess, you said, the
- 17:43Speaker 2: seven wonders of the world. So far, I only ticked
- 17:46Speaker 2: off the Great Wall of China. Fingers crossed, I'm able
- 17:50Speaker 2: to go and explore. So, well, 1 out of 7 done.
- 17:54Speaker 2: You've got 6 more to go. How are you gonna plan?
- 17:56Speaker 2: this, that would be incredible. I want to follow that journey. OK,
- 17:59Speaker 2: we've got a couple of callers hanging on the line.
- 18:01Speaker 2: We're going to get to that in just a bit.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Right now, still time for you to give me those messages, 90050987.
- 18:07Speaker 2: What kind of traveler are you? Do you go specifically,
- 18:10Speaker 2: you fly down to countries and locations to experience and witness, uh,
- 18:14Speaker 2: something beautiful like Mount Fuji, for example, or I don't know,
- 18:17Speaker 2: something in Kyoto. I have so many things for you
- 18:20Speaker 2: to explore in the world, right? Uh, the Grand Canyon,
- 18:23Speaker 2: Antelope Canyon.
- 18:24Speaker 2: So many wonderful things, or are you the kind that
- 18:26Speaker 2: you just really want to eat and shop? We're gonna
- 18:28Speaker 2: get to the phone lines in just a bit. Now,
- 18:30Speaker 2: speaking of lush life, if we have the means to
- 18:33Speaker 2: travel and to go to places that we want to
- 18:35Speaker 2: see or experience something phenomenal or something on your bucket list, right?
- 18:38Speaker 2: What would it be? And are you that kind of
- 18:40Speaker 2: traveler or do you just want to eat and shop
- 18:43Speaker 2: and enjoy? I mean, they're two very different kinds of
- 18:45Speaker 2: um travelers, right? OK, more messages coming through before we
- 18:49Speaker 2: head to Dinesh hanging on the line. Say hi to Jess,
- 18:52Speaker 2: you said, hey,
- 18:54Speaker 2: Um, I used to be someone who traveled to rural
- 18:56Speaker 2: places for peace and quiet, but after settling down, all
- 18:59Speaker 2: my travels now seem to center around events where it's
- 19:02Speaker 2: totally crowded and against my vibe. In 2024, my husband
- 19:06Speaker 2: and I went to the Paris Olympics. We specifically went
- 19:09Speaker 2: down to Marseille to support our very own Max Mader. Hey,
- 19:13Speaker 2: Um, joined the Maida family and friends to celebrate National
- 19:15Speaker 2: Day there and watched him complete his Olympic journey. It
- 19:18Speaker 2: was actually such an incredible atmosphere and experience that I'm
- 19:22Speaker 2: no longer against traveling for events. This coming September, we're
- 19:26Speaker 2: heading to Manchester, wow, to watch the EPL and hopefully
- 19:29Speaker 2: I can get immersed in the football atmosphere there. #Harland.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Well, that's really cute. I mean, look, sometimes we change
- 19:39Speaker 2: the way that we travel, right, and, and, and experience things.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Sometimes it's also because maybe you have adult money now,
- 19:46Speaker 2: it's a bit different from when and how we used
- 19:48Speaker 2: to travel as students or uh when we just started working.
- 19:52Speaker 2: It changes along the way, that's for sure.
- 19:54Speaker 2: OK, we've got Dinesh on the line. What about you?
- 19:57Speaker 2: So me and my wife actually, we, we like animals
- 20:00Speaker 2: a lot in nature. I think the last few major
- 20:03Speaker 2: trips we took were all to specifically see these, uh,
- 20:06Speaker 2: things that we can't see anywhere else. And so, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 2: we went, the first thing was to go to see
- 20:11Speaker 2: the northern lights. Wow, did you manage to catch it?
- 20:14Speaker 2: It took us, yes, and only on the last day,
- 20:17Speaker 2: it was, it was extremely stressful because we really, really
- 20:20Speaker 2: wanted to see it and finally on the last night
- 20:23Speaker 2: we saw it, it was quite.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Uh, quite a spectacular display. I mean, I've heard of
- 20:29Speaker 2: some people who go and they never get to see
- 20:31Speaker 2: it because it just doesn't happen. Yes, yes. I mean,
- 20:35Speaker 2: it's really your luck, right, and you need someone who
- 20:38Speaker 2: sometimes you have to go for those tours where they
- 20:40Speaker 2: chase the northern lights. Yeah, yeah. Aside from that, what else, like,
- 20:44Speaker 2: you know, you talked about animals earlier, what are some
- 20:47Speaker 2: memorable ones, we really like animals, so we went to
- 20:52Speaker 2: Galapagos Islands.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Uh, just to see all the, you know, the marine lizards,
- 21:00Speaker 2: the swimming with the sharks, penguins, flamingos all in one
- 21:05Speaker 2: place in the wild, and then we also went on, uh,
- 21:08Speaker 2: African safari just to see the great migration and we
- 21:12Speaker 2: timed it such that it was at the peak of
- 21:14Speaker 2: the migration season, and we actually watched them, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 2: cross the river and the crocodiles were all there. There was.
- 21:21Speaker 2: There was active hunting and all that, so it was,
- 21:24Speaker 2: I guess it's a once in a lifetime thing that
- 21:26Speaker 2: we really had to travel to see. Sounds phenomenal, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 2: it's right. Yes, yes. So what's next on your list
- 21:39Speaker 2: when it comes to experiencing like wildlife and animals.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Anything that you haven't done just yet? You know, timing
- 21:44Speaker 2: is a bit tough now. So for a shorter trip,
- 21:47Speaker 2: we are thinking of going to Komodo Island to see
- 21:49Speaker 2: the Komodo dragons and swimming with the manta reef. Yeah,
- 21:53Speaker 2: so that's probably next. You guys really found the perfect match, man.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I mean, more often than not, we hear of couples
- 21:59Speaker 2: who like one of them wants to go experience these things,
- 22:02Speaker 2: the other one wants to eat and shop and then.
- 22:05Speaker 2: You guys are aligned. That's fantastic. Thank you so much
- 22:07Speaker 2: for sharing, Vivian. Thank you for joining me here this morning.
- 22:10Speaker 2: We're talking about what kind of traveler you are based
- 22:12Speaker 2: on this incredible story of a man from Austria who
- 22:15Speaker 2: flew down specifically to catch the opening of the Circle
- 22:18Speaker 2: Line here in Singapore. I never thought or considered that
- 22:21Speaker 2: would be a tourist attraction, but hey, he's very passionate
- 22:23Speaker 2: about it, so I wanted to ask you.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Whether or not you also do the same, like you
- 22:28Speaker 2: would go the distance to experience something. Um, early on,
- 22:31Speaker 2: Dinesh said so many things about, um, the, the modern, uh,
- 22:34Speaker 2: the Northern Lights as well. Sorry, Devian, not Dinesh, about
- 22:38Speaker 2: the Northern Lights, about, you know, all these animals that
- 22:41Speaker 2: he and his wife want to capture and see on camera,
- 22:44Speaker 2: just experience it in person. So gonna go back to
- 22:47Speaker 2: our messages for now, saying hi to Desmond. You said,
- 22:51Speaker 2: Um, northern lights chasing in Finland, I actually met with
- 22:54Speaker 2: Santa and I'm glad I managed to take it off
- 22:57Speaker 2: early because it's not easy to chase these lights at
- 23:00Speaker 2: wee hours in subzero temperatures. And I took a look
- 23:03Speaker 2: at your, your profile picture. It's actually a picture of
- 23:05Speaker 2: the Northern lights. I love it. It's so beautiful.
- 23:09Speaker 2: OK, um, more messages coming through right now. You didn't
- 23:13Speaker 2: quite leave an, oh, yes, you left your name, Wani.
- 23:16Speaker 2: You said, hey, Sonia, last year I actually flew to
- 23:18Speaker 2: Shibuya just to find the train station where they keep
- 23:22Speaker 2: the Satoru Gojo locked. OK, OK, I don't know because
- 23:26Speaker 2: I'm not an anime person.
- 23:28Speaker 2: But you say I watched other anime movies in Tokyo
- 23:31Speaker 2: because it's earlier than Singapore's premiere. So things like Demon
- 23:34Speaker 2: Slayer premiered in Japan much earlier. Um, Singapore received the
- 23:38Speaker 2: film maybe a month later or so, but I just
- 23:41Speaker 2: couldn't wait. I had one month of bragging rights and
- 23:44Speaker 2: it was worth it.
- 23:46Speaker 2: See, so it does. All these are experiential, right? It's
- 23:49Speaker 2: just wonderful. So thank you for sharing your stories. We've
- 23:52Speaker 2: got Elle hanging on the line and we're gonna hear
- 23:54Speaker 2: from her in just a bit. Talking about what kind
- 23:56Speaker 2: of traveler you are, inspired by the Austrian man who
- 23:59Speaker 2: actually flew to Singapore to witness the opening of the
- 24:01Speaker 2: Circle Line. I thought that was just incredible. Um, are
- 24:04Speaker 2: you that kind of person that you, you want to
- 24:06Speaker 2: go specifically experience something? I mean, we've had, uh, two
- 24:09Speaker 2: people say Northern Lights, which they did before and thankfully
- 24:12Speaker 2: they caught it.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Um, Yoyo just sent me a message saying my family
- 24:16Speaker 2: of 4 traveled overseas for my Ironman triathlon through the decades.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I will suffer first, then enjoy the remaining of the
- 24:24Speaker 2: holiday trip. So you actually travel to do Ironman triathlons. That's,
- 24:29Speaker 2: that's crazy. I mean, I, I really admire that. Um
- 24:31Speaker 2: I know some friends who have done that for marathons, um,
- 24:34Speaker 2: and I believe Joakim wanted to do London or Boston.
- 24:39Speaker 2: One of these days, one of these years, right? So
- 24:42Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I think his London balloting was not successful,
- 24:44Speaker 2: but hopefully next year maybe he, he, he might have
- 24:47Speaker 2: more time to train for that.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But yeah, that's crazy, incredible stuff. Elle is on the
- 24:51Speaker 2: line right now. What about you, Elle? Um, for myself, actually, uh,
- 24:55Speaker 2: I just, uh, prefer to eat and shop, but because
- 24:58Speaker 2: of my husband, then he's the one that he not
- 25:02Speaker 2: really like to shopping. So every time he will feel that, OK,
- 25:05Speaker 2: if I go, I want to travel, right, definitely I
- 25:07Speaker 2: need to go to see the scenery or everything about.
- 25:11Speaker 2: The country. So no matter how far, how tough or
- 25:16Speaker 2: how dangerous the drive is, right, then he will definitely, uh,
- 25:20Speaker 2: go for it. And for myself, I said, huh, I
- 25:22Speaker 2: actually I want to go shopping but I have no
- 25:25Speaker 2: choice that I have to follow him. Yeah, so every time,
- 25:28Speaker 2: oh no, on, hold on. So I'm wondering do you
- 25:32Speaker 2: ever get a chance to like plan a specific
- 25:34Speaker 2: Holiday for you, like, because, you know, you already compromised
- 25:38Speaker 2: and you go and experience and explore what he wants
- 25:40Speaker 2: to do. What about you? Uh, for myself, not really.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I just like, OK, follow him. Oh, Elle, you're really
- 25:46Speaker 2: the sweetest. I mean, but at the same time, I
- 25:48Speaker 2: hope that we can manifest a girls trip for you
- 25:50Speaker 2: very soon, perhaps, just specifically for shopping and eating. You
- 25:55Speaker 2: got to scratch the itch, Elle, that's for sure.
- 25:57Speaker 2: You have to do something for yourself. OK, well, thank
- 26:00Speaker 2: you for all your calls, your messages. I mean, honestly,
- 26:02Speaker 2: I just have such an entertaining time every morning, getting
- 26:05Speaker 2: your stories out there. Appreciate it so much. If you
- 26:07Speaker 2: want to catch up with it, it's gonna be available
- 26:09Speaker 2: on me Listen and Spotify after the show, but only
- 26:13Speaker 2: one person can walk away with this incredible experience, Gypsy
- 26:16Speaker 2: One Fullerton. It's a casual contemporary Japanese dining destination.
- 26:21Speaker 2: With the backdrop of Marina Bay's waterfront. It's beautiful. I've
- 26:24Speaker 2: been there many times. I'm also a regular over at
- 26:27Speaker 2: Gypsy at East Coast because, you know, you can bring
- 26:30Speaker 2: dogs there.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And the Gypsy One Fullerton outlet though is the perfect
- 26:34Speaker 2: after-work spot. So you get your weekday happy hour specials, um,
- 26:37Speaker 2: $12 drinks from 3 to 6 p.m. Oh, a drink
- 26:41Speaker 2: at 3:00 p.m., why not? Complimentary chicken karagey with every
- 26:44Speaker 2: 2 regular priced alcoholic drinks from 5:00 to 7 p.m.
- 26:48Speaker 2: so you get your drinking snacks done as well.
- 26:50Speaker 2: For more info, please follow them. Gypsy SG, that is
- 26:53Speaker 2: J Y P S Y S G on Instagram. Please
- 26:57Speaker 2: do check it out. Anyway, one person's walking away with
- 27:00Speaker 2: it and it goes to Vivian. Congratulations, Vivian. The prize
- 27:04Speaker 2: is yours here today. I really hope you enjoy your
- 27:07Speaker 2: experience at Gypsy. Now, it's time for some food news.
- 27:11Speaker 2: This one taking us to a place that I did
- 27:13Speaker 2: not quite
- 27:14Speaker 2: I think I would see Kaso at if you're curious
- 27:17Speaker 2: and you're wondering what, what is Kaso? Well, you would
- 27:20Speaker 2: have known this Zhia place that's super famous for their
- 27:23Speaker 2: fish soup noodles, and I really loved it. Honestly, I think,
- 27:26Speaker 2: I don't know whether it's just like somewhat of an
- 27:29Speaker 2: emotional attachment or something where I always relate ko to
- 27:32Speaker 2: comfort food, you know, and I remember very clearly eating
- 27:36Speaker 2: at their OG outlet, right, and their original outlet.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And it was raining. So on that day that was
- 27:43Speaker 2: pouring rain, I ordered this piping hot soup. It was
- 27:47Speaker 2: this beautiful fish soup noodles and I never ever turned back.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I was like, I need to come back here all
- 27:51Speaker 2: the time, you know, you put some chili putty inside.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I'm like, perfect, that's perfect for me.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Their famed fish soup noodle is returning very soon for
- 27:58Speaker 2: the first time since its closure in 2025. See, so
- 28:01Speaker 2: I remember that correctly, like they shut in September of 2025.
- 28:05Speaker 2: So give a big shout out to their third generation owner, Cedric.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Their plans for the brand, well, they're unveiling it for now.
- 28:12Speaker 2: From now to the 31st of August, which I think
- 28:17Speaker 2: it starts 15th of July, if I'm not wrong. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 2: from 15th of July to 31st of August, you can
- 28:22Speaker 2: once again, sink your teeth into their beloved signature fish
- 28:25Speaker 2: noodle soup. They've got a pop-up at Tanglin Cook House, actually.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It's a contemporary British Singaporean restaurant, and so I was
- 28:32Speaker 2: quite surprised to see fish soup there, but
- 28:34Speaker 2: I think I haven't really eaten there before, experienced it,
- 28:37Speaker 2: so very excited to do so. They're celebrating Singapore's culinary heritage.
- 28:41Speaker 2: They've got branches over in Tanglin Mall and Paya Lebar Quarter.
- 28:45Speaker 2: So pretty convenient, but I think this collab is more
- 28:48Speaker 2: than just bringing back this nostalgic favorite, Kao, right? It
- 28:52Speaker 2: marks a different chapter in Cedric's mission, who's the 3rd
- 28:57Speaker 2: generation owner. I mean, rebuilding a brand that has been
- 29:00Speaker 2: around for 86 years is never easy.
- 29:04Speaker 2: But honestly, I, I have to give it up to him.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I think that he's definitely going to do something and
- 29:09Speaker 2: turn it around, so fingers crossed. I wish them all
- 29:12Speaker 2: the best. I'm just happy that I get to taste
- 29:15Speaker 2: their signature dishes again. That was such a waste. I
- 29:17Speaker 2: didn't manage to have my last meal there before they closed,
- 29:20Speaker 2: you know, so, uh, we'll see, we'll, we'll see where
- 29:23Speaker 2: this pop-up will lead them. Maybe there will be more pop-ups.
- 29:26Speaker 2: There will be a plan for a permanent one in
- 29:28Speaker 2: the future, you never know, right?
- 29:30Speaker 2: So for now, 15th July to 31st August, Tanglin Cook
- 29:33Speaker 2: House over at Tanglin Mall. The Caso pop-up takes place
- 29:37Speaker 2: over there. Pai Labor Quarter Outlet is um also open,
- 29:42Speaker 2: but I'm not really sure if uh the Castle pop-up
- 29:45Speaker 2: is also at Pai Lebar Quarter. So, I believe to
- 29:48Speaker 2: be safe, the Tanglin Outlet is definitely a good choice.
- 29:52Speaker 2: And I want to give a big shout out to
- 29:53Speaker 2: a special group of students who we'll see actually just
- 29:56Speaker 2: uh tomorrow in a day or so. Is it tomorrow? Yes, yes, tomorrow. OK.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Just had to check, you know. Joakim's not gonna be around,
- 30:03Speaker 2: I think, which is such a shame because he was really,
- 30:05Speaker 2: really looking forward to seeing them. Uh, my friends from
- 30:08Speaker 2: Saint Anthony's Kenosian Convent Secondary School, they're coming on down,
- 30:12Speaker 2: and it's just such an exciting day because we love
- 30:15Speaker 2: welcoming students to our studio. It's different. It's different when
- 30:19Speaker 2: we head down to your school. Yeah, it's always fun, right,
- 30:22Speaker 2: to have a, to have an assembly with you guys
- 30:24Speaker 2: and it's super, super memorable most of the time.
- 30:27Speaker 2: But sometimes you want to flip the script a little
- 30:30Speaker 2: and you want to come to our workplace, right? Instead
- 30:32Speaker 2: of us going down to your school, even though it's
- 30:35Speaker 2: going to be, of course, a selected amount of students,
- 30:37Speaker 2: just maybe 10 to 15 at the most, but um
- 30:40Speaker 2: if you ever, if you ever are curious to know
- 30:43Speaker 2: how it goes within our studio space and what happens off-air,
- 30:48Speaker 2: and how we even go on air and plan our
- 30:50Speaker 2: show in the first place, let your teachers know, get
- 30:52Speaker 2: them to write into us because it can be.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Um, a lot to schedule because we have to go
- 30:58Speaker 2: about our daily jobs as well, but we would love
- 31:00Speaker 2: to make some time for you, you know, and if
- 31:02Speaker 2: time permits for you, for your classes, for your schedule,
- 31:05Speaker 2: then the stars will align and we'll see you here
- 31:07Speaker 2: in the studio. So tomorrow, welcoming the students from SACSS
- 31:11Speaker 2: down to the studio. Pity.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Joakim was really looking forward to it, but I don't
- 31:16Speaker 2: know whether he will be COVID-free by then. So, fingers crossed,
- 31:20Speaker 2: we shall see. We also don't want to get everyone sick, right?
- 31:23Speaker 2: So he will be on MC till further notice. How
- 31:25Speaker 2: was your weekend? How was your first day back at work,
- 31:28Speaker 2: at school? I mean, I had some major Sunday blues
- 31:30Speaker 2: just yesterday, but
- 31:32Speaker 2: Um, I was just talking to some of my friends
- 31:33Speaker 2: that now that 22 of my close friends have started
- 31:38Speaker 2: new jobs, um, we hardly see each other anymore, and
